- 0:07Speaker 1: Those fans. Quite a weekend in Houston. The second half
- 0:11Speaker 1: is off to a rousing start for the Orioles and
- 0:14Speaker 1: welcome to our first post All Star Break edition of
- 0:17Speaker 1: Birdland Territory Steve, Tim and Brad. Before the break, we
- 0:21Speaker 1: talked about how critical this road trip was going to
- 0:23Speaker 1: be for the Oriols. They could do a lot of
- 0:25Speaker 1: good against other wild card contenders, and boy did they
- 0:29Speaker 1: when this series began. Here's a stat off throughout the start.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Houston going into this series since May twenty first was
- 0:38Speaker 1: twenty seven and twenty one, the best record in the
- 0:41Speaker 1: American League for about the last two months. And then
- 0:45Speaker 1: the Orioles went into their park and swept, allowing two,
- 0:50Speaker 1: two and two and having a picture on the set.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He must like that six runs for the weekend, Brad.
- 0:57Speaker 1: They'd been throwing so well. The tm ERA during their
- 1:00Speaker 1: seven game winning streak is one eighty.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I mean they've turned to absolute corner when it comes
- 1:08Speaker 3: to the pitching side. I feel like the pitching waves
- 1:10Speaker 3: of the early part of the season have been gone
- 1:12Speaker 3: out for a while, and I think emphatically gone these
- 1:15Speaker 3: last seven games, especially when you give up two runs
- 1:18Speaker 3: each game in Houston, which is a really tough place
- 1:21Speaker 3: to pitch. It's short the right field, it's short the
- 1:23Speaker 3: left field. They always seem to hit well there, and
- 1:26Speaker 3: to go there and give up two runs a game
- 1:28Speaker 3: is just unbelievable. It takes all the pressure off the offense,
- 1:31Speaker 3: and the offense was able to come through with just
- 1:33Speaker 3: enough to to run Homer by word on Friday, today
- 1:36Speaker 3: some runs to tack on, and then the amazing win
- 1:39Speaker 3: on Saturday.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Just great defense.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's kind of all kind of coming together here this
- 1:43Speaker 3: last over the seven game winning streak, and it's exciting baseball.
- 1:47Speaker 3: If you're a true baseball fan, this is about exciting
- 1:50Speaker 3: as it gets. It's good pitching, good defense, and timely hitting.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And to me, like you said, being a former pitcher,
- 1:55Speaker 3: I love seeing it. The bullpen's been on a huge role.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Not to mention the starting five have just been phenomenal
- 2:01Speaker 3: now for I feel over two and a half months
- 2:03Speaker 3: and they just kind of showed it all this weekend
- 2:04Speaker 3: and it's a great time to really get rolling into
- 2:07Speaker 3: a really really big series coming up in Boston.
- 2:10Speaker 4: When we were doing the show last Sunday and we
- 2:13Speaker 4: were all happy, excited.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Look, it was their first four game winning streak.
- 2:16Speaker 4: But Brad, I think you might have brought it up
- 2:19Speaker 4: or me, all right, it's the Royals. Let's see what
- 2:21Speaker 4: this looks like on the other side. And Steve, you
- 2:24Speaker 4: gave the numbers man and to do that going into Houston,
- 2:28Speaker 4: and you were trailing this team by half a game
- 2:31Speaker 4: heading into it. But what has me most excited about
- 2:34Speaker 4: this series, guys, it's not even so much today, where
- 2:38Speaker 4: today they felt pretty in control throughout Hunter Brown just
- 2:42Speaker 4: did not have any type of command at all, hitting
- 2:45Speaker 4: multiple batters, issuing five walks or so. But Friday and
- 2:50Speaker 4: Saturday is what has me most excited about this club.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Especially Saturday.
- 2:56Speaker 4: That's a game they don't win even a couple of
- 2:58Speaker 4: weeks ago, and both of those games they were out hit. Friday,
- 3:03Speaker 4: Dean Kramer has a short outing, he's kind of walking
- 3:06Speaker 4: the tightrope. Orioles pitchers ended up walking nine guys. The
- 3:10Speaker 4: offense just isn't doing anything. Then Boom badly with the
- 3:14Speaker 4: ground roll double, then Taylor Ward the go ahead homer,
- 3:17Speaker 4: and then Saturday is similar thing that the offense had
- 3:20Speaker 4: two hits and struck out twelve times through the first
- 3:23Speaker 4: nine innings, and then you had a basis loaded situation
- 3:27Speaker 4: against you with nobody out in the eleventh thing, and
- 3:30Speaker 4: somehow got out of it. You know, Tyler O'Neill with
- 3:33Speaker 4: a fantastic throw to get the runner at home and
- 3:36Speaker 4: Samuel Pasilo with a fantastic tag. Unreal stretch and unreal
- 3:42Speaker 4: series sweep by the Ohs.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'll remember the Cam Sanders weekend. Yeah, and he didn't
- 3:48Speaker 1: even make it through the weekend getting sent back for
- 3:51Speaker 1: Sam Huff. I sure hope we see him again. I
- 3:53Speaker 1: know MLB numbers are poor overall, but you can see
- 3:57Speaker 1: what the Orioles like about this guy ninety six with
- 4:00Speaker 1: a whiteout slider. That was maybe the craziest move of
- 4:04Speaker 1: the year. A pitcher with a high walk rate in
- 4:07Speaker 1: with the bases loaded and he doesn't walk. He's three
- 4:11Speaker 1: and four hitters. Now you're not walk theme he got
- 4:14Speaker 1: them out.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it's those are That's the kind of storylines that
- 4:19Speaker 3: really just kind of boost you as a team overall.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I just know being part of bullpins like that. Like
- 4:24Speaker 3: right now, they're on a roll. I think if my
- 4:25Speaker 3: numbers are right about twenty two innings, one ear and run,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I think they'd have a stretch of right now, and
- 4:30Speaker 3: it's they're just on a complete roll and it's everybody
- 4:33Speaker 3: getting their hands in. It's not the same guys every
- 4:35Speaker 3: single outing. You saw today. Grant wolfemer out there in
- 4:38Speaker 3: the ninth inning, so it's it's passing the baton to
- 4:40Speaker 3: each other and guys just really stepping up when they
- 4:43Speaker 3: need to and getting out of that with no runs
- 4:45Speaker 3: and keeping the game where it was. Might be the
- 4:47Speaker 3: inning of the weekend. Really, when you look at the
- 4:49Speaker 3: series as a.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Whole, this way guys three wins in this sweep. You
- 4:55Speaker 4: had three saves by all different guys, and Andrew Kiddridch
- 4:59Speaker 4: didn't even record one of those saves. And you know,
- 5:02Speaker 4: you have the phenomenal inning on Friday by camp Smith
- 5:07Speaker 4: where it's bases loaded, one out and then he ended.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Up getting the saves the very next day.
- 5:11Speaker 4: And unfortunately they're in a roster crunch right now with
- 5:14Speaker 4: injuries which we'll get into, but you know, such as
- 5:17Speaker 4: life in the bullpen, man, it's crazy. That was not
- 5:21Speaker 4: a poor performance to motion by any means.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah, So during the seven straight wins, which, by the way,
- 5:30Speaker 1: at the Orioles, we put up the stat their longest
- 5:33Speaker 1: win streak since September of twenty twenty three, the division champs,
- 5:38Speaker 1: who one hundred and one games spent a minute, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Oils are now ten and three in July, and
- 5:43Speaker 1: suddenly they're winning on the road for the first time
- 5:45Speaker 1: all year. They have back to back road series wins
- 5:48Speaker 1: Cincinnati and Houston. They are five and one in those
- 5:51Speaker 1: two series, eight and three. They're last eleven on the road,
- 5:55Speaker 1: twelve and nine in the last twenty one that seven
- 5:59Speaker 1: road series in which they won for and lost three.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So now they're starting to do that. And look at
- 6:04Speaker 1: all the contributions we mentioned, Cam Sanders, Tyler O'Neill, wards,
- 6:08Speaker 1: go ahead, Homer Leodi Taveres today a huge two run single.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Even Gunner struggling got an RBI hit today. But oh,
- 6:16Speaker 1: by the way, Brandon Young, who always seems to do it,
- 6:20Speaker 1: did it again today and they switched him for bradish
- 6:23Speaker 1: who gets pushed back after the contract agreement. And Brandon
- 6:27Speaker 1: Young has made sixteen starts in the Orioles are thirteen
- 6:31Speaker 1: and three.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy, and I think the last I think
- 6:35Speaker 3: that stretch probably started against the game against Houston back
- 6:38Speaker 3: in I think it was April at the beginning of
- 6:40Speaker 3: May against the Astros. So you look at that stretch
- 6:43Speaker 3: he's had now, it's been phenomenal. I mean, we talked
- 6:45Speaker 3: about it right before the break, but he's definitely one
- 6:48Speaker 3: of the standout performers for this team overall. And I
- 6:51Speaker 3: just love the fact that it's not one guy doing it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: It's We've mentioned how many names just in today's episode
- 6:56Speaker 3: of guys stepping up and doing it, and I think
- 6:58Speaker 3: that's what's really going to make this team kind of
- 7:00Speaker 3: come to the top. We're still waiting for Gunner to
- 7:03Speaker 3: get going, We're still waiting for Adli to be healthy.
- 7:05Speaker 3: All the time he was out of there today. Hopefully
- 7:07Speaker 3: his injury is not too bad. But Syle gets hurt
- 7:09Speaker 3: a little bit too. But it's just guys contributing throughout
- 7:13Speaker 3: the lineup. Jeremiah Jackson back doing that sacrifice but for
- 7:17Speaker 3: a run yesterday, Like, it's just it's guys doing all
- 7:20Speaker 3: the little things which we hadn't seen to this point
- 7:23Speaker 3: in the year. And guys are getting going at the
- 7:24Speaker 3: perfect time, and it's it's what you love to see.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And I think if you're an Orioles fan, you kind
- 7:29Speaker 3: of look at this team. Maybe it's not gonna be
- 7:30Speaker 3: the stars that lifted. It's gonna be more of a
- 7:32Speaker 3: story of this overall team and what they were able
- 7:35Speaker 3: to do this year despite the injuries, which I think
- 7:37Speaker 3: is going to be in a huge storyline for this
- 7:39Speaker 3: team for the year. But when you look at this
- 7:41Speaker 3: team that you're having contributions up and down the lineup,
- 7:44Speaker 3: up and down the roster, bullpen, starting pitchers, it's just
- 7:47Speaker 3: a fun team to watch at this point and it's
- 7:49Speaker 3: been It's been great seeing everybody kind of have their
- 7:52Speaker 3: hand in all these wins.
- 7:54Speaker 4: I still think it goes back to where we started, though,
- 7:56Speaker 4: and we've asked this question at various points, like what
- 7:59Speaker 4: is this team's identity? Yeah, guys, it's one of the
- 8:02Speaker 4: best starting rotations since May twenty second.
- 8:05Speaker 5: You can go back to that point.
- 8:07Speaker 4: It was the sixth best starter era heading into this series.
- 8:10Speaker 5: It only got better.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Trevor Rodgers really picking up where he left off, Brandon
- 8:15Speaker 4: Young really picking up where he left off, and you know,
- 8:20Speaker 4: he got Kyle bradd as, Shane bose Is in a
- 8:22Speaker 4: nice role. Dean Kramer was a little bit of a
- 8:25Speaker 4: so so start for him on Friday, but you know
- 8:27Speaker 4: what you're getting at a dean this starting rotation, and
- 8:31Speaker 4: it was not the offense being the story of this
- 8:34Speaker 4: series sweep.
- 8:35Speaker 5: It was the pitching.
- 8:36Speaker 4: The bullpen was spectacular, but it started with the starting rotation.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot happened in three days. In addition to
- 8:44Speaker 1: three wins, the Oriols signed their first round draft pick,
- 8:47Speaker 1: Eric Booth, junior, the Mississippi high school outfielder, on Saturday,
- 8:52Speaker 1: seven point three ish million. He's doing okay coming out
- 8:56Speaker 1: of high school and they got both junior. So he
- 8:59Speaker 1: goes to Sarasota Orientation and oh yes, Kyle Bradish five years,
- 9:03Speaker 1: ninety million, that extension announced in game. It's crazy. I
- 9:07Speaker 1: thought it's the first inning and here's news about cay Brett.
- 9:09Speaker 1: What the first inning of the game. What a strange time,
- 9:12Speaker 1: But it was good news, so we'll take it. Later
- 9:15Speaker 1: in the show. We're going to get into the catching situation.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Craig Albert has said after Sunday's five two win at Houston,
- 9:21Speaker 1: Adlie Rutchman is dealing with left wrist discomfort. Basioh left
- 9:25Speaker 1: the game in the second inning with right shoulder discomfort
- 9:28Speaker 1: and oh, by the way, great job by Sam Huff
- 9:30Speaker 1: catching today and catching a game that wee Orioles had
- 9:34Speaker 1: great pitching, so he was doing his part. We told
- 9:38Speaker 1: you wasn't going to be dull and it certainly has
- 9:40Speaker 1: it and now it's exciting to see the Orioles win
- 9:43Speaker 1: seven games in a row. Hey, we want to remind

- 11:11Speaker 6: Gambling problem caller tex one eight hundred gambler.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Well, we can't say the new Oriel ownership group led
- 11:18Speaker 1: by David Rubinstein, is not spending money on the team.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Maybe it's not going to look like the Mets, the Yankees,
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Dodgers. I doubt it ever will, but it's getting
- 11:28Speaker 1: bigger and better. The latest development over the weekend, Cole
- 11:31Speaker 1: bradishould extended five years ninety million that will take him
- 11:36Speaker 1: from through twenty thirty one. Suddenly the Oriols are locking
- 11:40Speaker 1: up some talent. Bradish will make ten million in twenty
- 11:43Speaker 1: twenty seven. Per Ryan Ripkin reported this and twenty twenty eight, thirteen,
- 11:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty nine to seventeen, then twenty two twenty eight.
- 11:51Speaker 1: It's a pretty as good as he is and knocking
- 11:54Speaker 1: on wood for health here's that's important word in any player.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think the Oriol's got a bargain here, and maybe
- 12:01Speaker 1: Bradish said, with my injury history, I have a chance
- 12:04Speaker 1: now to set up my family and myself for life.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm going to take it. And at the end of
- 12:09Speaker 1: twenty thirty one, if he's healthy and throwing like we
- 12:11Speaker 1: believe he can, he might get another whopper deal. Who knows,
- 12:15Speaker 1: But for now the Orioles are locked up with Kyle
- 12:19Speaker 1: Brad is what exciting news.
- 12:21Speaker 3: It is exciting, and I think it goes to show
- 12:24Speaker 3: that the organization is ready to make this team a
- 12:26Speaker 3: winner and to put the money into the players they
- 12:29Speaker 3: have now. And I think it just goes to show
- 12:31Speaker 3: what they've seen from him so far this year. They're
- 12:33Speaker 3: confident what he's going to have. And I think on
- 12:36Speaker 3: his end, like you said, Steve, with his injury history,
- 12:38Speaker 3: it's a perfect opportunity to take a deal and he's
- 12:41Speaker 3: set for life. Is it's an unbelievable amount of money.
- 12:44Speaker 3: And I think it just I think it's a great
- 12:46Speaker 3: deal on both sides, is basically what I'm trying to say.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And I think it's a great job by the ownership,
- 12:50Speaker 3: the lockdown the guy that they like, and I think
- 12:52Speaker 3: he's just really comfortable in Baltimore, and there's a lot
- 12:54Speaker 3: to be said for that. As a player, when you
- 12:57Speaker 3: get somewhere you're comfortable, the team shows they're you know,
- 13:01Speaker 3: their confidence in you, and you just kind of want
- 13:04Speaker 3: to stay there. And I think he knows this team
- 13:05Speaker 3: can be a winner and he's gonna be a big
- 13:07Speaker 3: part of that. And given this monetary value that they
- 13:10Speaker 3: gave to him, he's gonna be a big part of
- 13:12Speaker 3: this for the future and moving forward. So it's it's
- 13:14Speaker 3: exciting for the for the Orioles fans, and they should
- 13:16Speaker 3: be excited because I can't remember the last time they've
- 13:19Speaker 3: locked down a picture of their own on the team
- 13:21Speaker 3: now for this amount of money in this amount of time,
- 13:24Speaker 3: So it's it's definitely exciting news to hear that the
- 13:26Speaker 3: ownership is all in for this group of guys.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I think it's awesome. I think it's awesome on so
- 13:31Speaker 4: many levels. And Steve, I'm with you one hundred percent.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I'm watching the game yesterday and I'm shocked when you
- 13:37Speaker 4: get the alert, and then I'm shocked again when I
- 13:39Speaker 4: saw the price tag, because you know how good of
- 13:43Speaker 4: a pitcher Kyle Bradish can be and has he ran
- 13:47Speaker 4: into some bumps this year in his first full season
- 13:49Speaker 4: off Tommy John. Absolutely, but he has a sub three
- 13:52Speaker 4: ERA over his last twelve starts, and his season long
- 13:55Speaker 4: numbers are still strong as well. But you know what
- 13:58Speaker 4: he is when he's at his and that's twenty twenty
- 14:01Speaker 4: three when he finished fourth in the cy Young Award voting.
- 14:05Speaker 4: He had a two eight three ERA that season, which
- 14:08Speaker 4: was the lowest bin Oriole starter over a full season
- 14:11Speaker 4: like that since Mike Mussina back in nineteen ninety two.
- 14:14Speaker 4: So pretty good company with the Hall of Famer. And
- 14:18Speaker 4: I think it's also a great message to send to
- 14:21Speaker 4: your fan base and a great message to send to
- 14:24Speaker 4: the clubhouse because that was kind of a knock on
- 14:29Speaker 4: Mike Elias in the front office for a while. Oh
- 14:31Speaker 4: my gosh, is this going to be a feeder system?
- 14:34Speaker 4: When are we going to see a multi year deal
- 14:36Speaker 4: or well, you have to give Michaelias a lot of
- 14:38Speaker 4: credit for the extensions that he's gotten done over the
- 14:41Speaker 4: past year, and it starts with Samuel Bissio.
- 14:43Speaker 5: We're coming up on a close to a year.
- 14:45Speaker 4: It was the end of August when he signed that
- 14:47Speaker 4: eight year deal that's going to end up being a
- 14:49Speaker 4: steal Shane Boz the contract they gave him prior to
- 14:53Speaker 4: opening day.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Or prior to his first start in an Order uniform.
- 14:56Speaker 4: At that point, it was the highest contract they've given
- 15:00Speaker 4: out to a starting pitcher in team history, and they
- 15:02Speaker 4: just one upped it with Kyle Bradish. So I think
- 15:05Speaker 4: it's a great message to send to the fan base.
- 15:07Speaker 4: I think it's a great message to send inside the clubhouse,
- 15:10Speaker 4: and you've heard some of the guy's comments about it
- 15:13Speaker 4: over the past day.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Go back a calendar year as we're approaching August twenty
- 15:20Speaker 1: twenty six. In August twenty twenty five, that's when Bessio
- 15:24Speaker 1: signed the deal, eight year, sixty seven million, which can
- 15:27Speaker 1: go further than that. He's locked up through twenty thirty
- 15:30Speaker 1: three with a team option for thirty four. Then go
- 15:34Speaker 1: to December five years on hundred and fifty five for Pete,
- 15:37Speaker 1: then go to March. Boz before his first Orial game
- 15:40Speaker 1: five year, sixty eight million, and then go to this
- 15:44Speaker 1: deal and oh, by the way, within all that, they
- 15:46Speaker 1: added Hellsley, they traded for Boz, they added Ward, they
- 15:49Speaker 1: did some things to try to make this team better.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So it's funny how a week or two has changed
- 15:55Speaker 1: the outlook in Birdland and it's been a meteoric rise.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And we're all keeping our fingers crossed because you guys
- 16:02Speaker 1: deserve a great baseball team, deserve the excitement that maybe, guys,
- 16:07Speaker 1: we're about to have. This was game one hundred. This
- 16:10Speaker 1: is why baseball is a marathon and you can never
- 16:12Speaker 1: write it off. And up until now we were saying
- 16:15Speaker 1: the Oriols are in it because of the league is bad.
- 16:17Speaker 1: But maybe now they're going to be in it because
- 16:19Speaker 1: the Orioles are good. Wouldn't that be refreshing?
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think it's I think it's perfect time.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think this deal kind of just coincides with the
- 16:29Speaker 3: team on this uprise and they're they're right there back
- 16:31Speaker 3: in the wildcard mix. As much as you can say
- 16:34Speaker 3: whatever you want about the records, the American League is
- 16:36Speaker 3: what it is right now. But I think locking Kyle
- 16:38Speaker 3: bradishelt for this amount of time shows that Michael Oas
- 16:41Speaker 3: is trying to get a winner and whether, like we've
- 16:44Speaker 3: talked about, they might still make a few deals at
- 16:46Speaker 3: the deadline or whatever, but you know, at going into
- 16:49Speaker 3: the end of this season, into next year and forward,
- 16:52Speaker 3: this team is trying to win and the ownership is
- 16:54Speaker 3: doing everything they have to and Michael Yas will continue
- 16:56Speaker 3: to do everything they have to to put a winning
- 16:58Speaker 3: team on the field.
- 16:59Speaker 2: And the part of it too. I think with Kyle
- 17:01Speaker 2: bradsh the deal, sorry to him, I.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Think it's I think it has to do with they
- 17:05Speaker 3: are going to make sure that he's healthy, and I
- 17:07Speaker 3: think this deal really is going to give him the
- 17:10Speaker 3: security of, hey, we're not going to try to blow
- 17:12Speaker 3: you out. We just signed you to a five to
- 17:13Speaker 3: six year deal, so we're going to take our time
- 17:15Speaker 3: with you on your innings this year, your innings next year.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And I think that's kind of a good sign.
- 17:20Speaker 3: It makes a healthy organization look, it makes I'm trying
- 17:24Speaker 3: to it makes them look great when they you know,
- 17:27Speaker 3: they're trying to protect their guys, and I think with
- 17:29Speaker 3: doing this deal, they're going to try to protect Kyle
- 17:31Speaker 3: Bradish and they're not going to try to blow him
- 17:32Speaker 3: out this year next year to get the most value
- 17:34Speaker 3: out of them. They're going to try to get the
- 17:36Speaker 3: most value out of him for the length of this contract.
- 17:38Speaker 3: So I think it's a really good sign for the
- 17:40Speaker 3: rest of the season to moving forward.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And I think something that's abundantly clear, and we've been
- 17:45Speaker 4: stressing this even throughout when we've done trade deadline previews
- 17:48Speaker 4: on this show. This was never going to be another
- 17:51Speaker 4: teardown if things weren't going this well, you know, if
- 17:54Speaker 4: they lost seven straight games heading up into this point
- 17:56Speaker 4: vice versa.
- 17:58Speaker 5: They're committing.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Look, now you have cast certainty on Shame Base and
- 18:02Speaker 4: Kyle Bradish and really your whole rotations under contract at
- 18:06Speaker 4: least through the next couple of years. Dean Kramer's still
- 18:09Speaker 4: under club control, Brandon Young has plenty of club control
- 18:12Speaker 4: as well. They're in a nice spot right now, and
- 18:17Speaker 4: I think it's really encouraging that when David Rubinstein was
- 18:22Speaker 4: introduced as the next owner of the Orioles on opening
- 18:26Speaker 4: day twenty twenty four, they phrased it as the next chapter.
- 18:31Speaker 4: And this has been a serious departure, especially you know,
- 18:35Speaker 4: towards the end when it was the rebuild and they
- 18:37Speaker 4: really weren't spending any money. This organization the past offseason
- 18:42Speaker 4: spent I believe the second or third most amount of
- 18:45Speaker 4: money in the entire offseason. So it tells you this
- 18:48Speaker 4: is the next chapter. This is completely different than the
- 18:52Speaker 4: prior regime.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Now they're locking up some of their own end. They've
- 18:57Speaker 1: signed the big fish in free agency, Alonzo, so they're
- 19:01Speaker 1: doing things we didn't think the Orioles would do or
- 19:04Speaker 1: maybe even could do. And Tim, based on what you
- 19:07Speaker 1: just said, why this was never going to be a teardown.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Let's graphically show you control through twenty This is not
- 19:13Speaker 1: every player, this is some key guys. Team control through
- 19:16Speaker 1: twenty seven. You got Adlie Bautista, Toddler Wells, Dean Kramer
- 19:20Speaker 1: through twenty eight, you got Gunner and you got you
- 19:22Speaker 1: near Cano through twenty nine, Jordan Westberg and Colton Towser
- 19:26Speaker 1: through twenty thirty, Pete Alonzo, Shane Boz Blaize, Alexander Jackson,
- 19:31Speaker 1: holiday Rico Garcia through thirty one is bradish Young and
- 19:35Speaker 1: Beaver's and oh, by the way, Visaio is through twenty
- 19:38Speaker 1: thirty three not pictured here through twenty thirty four team option.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So it's pretty impressive what they're putting together, and that
- 19:47Speaker 1: still has no extension for Adli or Gunner. Will that happen?
- 19:49Speaker 1: We'll see it still could. It's not impossible, and maybe
- 19:53Speaker 1: all they've done here helps them get one or two
- 19:57Speaker 1: of the other big guys on the team.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I just think when you look at all those names,
- 20:01Speaker 3: I just think of that as I mean, who wouldn't
- 20:04Speaker 3: take that core group of guys as their core group
- 20:06Speaker 3: of guys in any organization? And I think you start
- 20:09Speaker 3: adding sprinkling in a few guys from the minor leagues,
- 20:11Speaker 3: you start sprinkling a few guys from draft picks that
- 20:13Speaker 3: you have, and now you look at a team that
- 20:15Speaker 3: could win from year for years to come. And I
- 20:18Speaker 3: think that's why this deal is kind of just a
- 20:20Speaker 3: representation of that, that there is a chance that this
- 20:23Speaker 3: isn't just a small window where everyone was so concerned
- 20:26Speaker 3: about when Gunners contractors up. When at of these contracts
- 20:28Speaker 3: are up, you have these guys that they've extended now
- 20:31Speaker 3: through the twenty thirties, So you're talking five, six, seven
- 20:33Speaker 3: years from now to where you're going to still have
- 20:35Speaker 3: this core group of guys. Then, like I said, you
- 20:37Speaker 3: hope you hit on a few draft picks, you sign
- 20:39Speaker 3: a free agent here there, and next thing you know,
- 20:42Speaker 3: you have a team that can win for duration of
- 20:44Speaker 3: five to ten years. And I think that is what
- 20:47Speaker 3: is exciting if you're a Baltimoreial fan seeing this extension.
- 20:50Speaker 3: This could be the start of what's to come. And
- 20:52Speaker 3: I just think it's a really cool spot to be in.
- 20:54Speaker 3: It's an exciting seven game win streak, but now looked
- 20:57Speaker 3: in that, you can look even further than that, and
- 20:59Speaker 3: it just makes exciting.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Brett, what is it like, you know, being in that
- 21:04Speaker 4: clubhouse as a player, And I was thinking of guys
- 21:07Speaker 4: that you were on the team that got extensions, like
- 21:09Speaker 4: JJ Hardy and Darren O'Day and obviously Chris Davis got
- 21:12Speaker 4: the Mega contract. Like, what is it like being in
- 21:15Speaker 4: the clubhouse seeing your teammates get rewarded.
- 21:19Speaker 2: It's awesome.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I mean, it's like it gives me chills think about
- 21:22Speaker 3: because I still think back to JJ Hardy. He got
- 21:24Speaker 3: announced right before the ALCS in twenty fourteen, and every
- 21:27Speaker 3: time he came to the play, the whole crowd is changing.
- 21:30Speaker 2: JJ Hardy and it was one of the coolest things ever.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And you love seeing guys that put in the work
- 21:35Speaker 3: and have put in great careers get rewarded for the
- 21:37Speaker 3: teams that they've done really well with. And I just
- 21:40Speaker 3: think when you mentioned those three guys, JJ Hardy, Darren O'Day,
- 21:43Speaker 3: Chris Davis, those are the three that stand out to me.
- 21:45Speaker 3: And those guys deserve those contracts, whether they played out
- 21:48Speaker 3: how they played out, they deserve the contract when they
- 21:51Speaker 3: got it. And it's awesome to see guys to have
- 21:53Speaker 3: that happen and let them get to stay in a
- 21:55Speaker 3: spot where they feel comfortable and they want to win
- 21:57Speaker 3: at and that's what those three guys got to do.
- 21:59Speaker 3: And when you're in that clubhouse, it gives you hope.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It hops It makes you think, man if I perform,
- 22:04Speaker 3: maybe I can get the contract, maybe I can be
- 22:06Speaker 3: the next guy.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And maybe it doesn't work out that way.
- 22:08Speaker 3: It sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but we're here
- 22:10Speaker 3: in that clubhouse. It gives you hope and lets you
- 22:13Speaker 3: know that the ownership is there and they're going to
- 22:14Speaker 3: do everything they can to put a winning team on
- 22:17Speaker 3: the field. And I mean when being on those teams
- 22:19Speaker 3: with those guys getting extensions, there was no doubt in
- 22:21Speaker 3: my mind that I thought we were gonna win a
- 22:23Speaker 3: World Series at one point, and that's the hope for everybody,
- 22:25Speaker 3: and that's all you can ever hope for. Obviously it
- 22:27Speaker 3: didn't play out that way, but when you start a
- 22:29Speaker 3: season or where you're heading into an offseason and those guys
- 22:31Speaker 3: get the extensions, that's the hope. You put a team
- 22:34Speaker 3: on the field, do you think is going to win
- 22:35Speaker 3: a World Series? And we went into every season thinking
- 22:38Speaker 3: we had a chance at that, and that's all you
- 22:39Speaker 3: can ask for.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Oh I had one PostScript on Bradish for me, He's
- 22:46Speaker 1: a homegrown Oriole develop pitcher. Here's why. Trey Gibson and
- 22:51Speaker 1: Brandon Young were not drafted by the Orioles, but they
- 22:54Speaker 1: were signed after the draft. They are original Orioles cop.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Bradish was drafted by the Angels, traded him before he
- 23:01Speaker 1: had thrown a handful of innings on their farm. His
- 23:04Speaker 1: development happened in the Baltimore farm. They took this kid
- 23:08Speaker 1: from fourth round draft pick in the Dylan Bundy trade
- 23:11Speaker 1: when they acquired several players for Bundy, including Bradish, and
- 23:15Speaker 1: turned him into a cy Young contender. Kyle Bradish, you
- 23:19Speaker 1: deserve the most credit for that, but Kyle Bradish Wold
- 23:23Speaker 1: tip his hat to numerous people in the oil organization,
- 23:26Speaker 1: majors and miners that helped him get to the point
- 23:30Speaker 1: where the fourth round draft pick, unheralded among top pitchers
- 23:34Speaker 1: in the game, got a big contract. So I think
- 23:36Speaker 1: it's a success story that a lot of people should
- 23:39Speaker 1: get some credit for. And end of my sermon here
- 23:43Speaker 1: briefly Onky Bradish. Was really exciting for this guy, Tim
- 23:47Speaker 1: because that clubhouse loves that guy, and you see when
- 23:52Speaker 1: he's out there, he keeps it in. He's not fiery
- 23:55Speaker 1: like Gunner, but man, it burns inside of him, you
- 23:58Speaker 1: know it.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Oh, he's a total bulldog.
- 24:00Speaker 4: But Steve, I was just to you know, put the
- 24:02Speaker 4: final exclamation point on it.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Look, Michael Oyas takes a lot of heat.
- 24:06Speaker 4: That was an absolute home run of a trade, and
- 24:09Speaker 4: Mike deserves some credit for that as well.
- 24:12Speaker 1: No doubt. So, Kyle Bradish, congrats from Berdland Territory on
- 24:16Speaker 1: your contract. The latest oriole to sign a contract extension
- 24:22Speaker 1: on to Boston. Man, that's gonna be big. We're talking
- 24:26Speaker 1: about it in just seconds.

- 24:48Speaker 1: The Boston Red Sox the hottest team in baseball, thirteen
- 24:51Speaker 1: straight wins. The Orioles at one seventh straight. Something's got
- 24:55Speaker 1: to give. Monday Night, Boston swept Tampa thirteen straight time
- 25:00Speaker 1: for the second longest win streak in Red Sox history.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You got to go back to nineteen forty eight. The
- 25:05Speaker 1: only longer was a Red Sox team won fifteen straight
- 25:08Speaker 1: in nineteen forty six. That's what they're chasing, and oh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: by the way, chasing against Birdland on Monday Night. And
- 25:16Speaker 1: while we mentioned the Orio pitching, here's what the Red
- 25:19Speaker 1: Sox have done in thirteen straight wins. They've allowed twenty
- 25:22Speaker 1: four runs. That's less than two a game. By the way,
- 25:26Speaker 1: they're fourth in the Major League Baseball on temra. It's
- 25:29Speaker 1: not offense over the years we've seen carry the Red
- 25:32Speaker 1: Sox right now, it's pitching.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that even brings up this weekend
- 25:37Speaker 3: even more because, like Tim, like you said, winning those
- 25:39Speaker 3: two games Friday and Saturday, those are the kind of
- 25:42Speaker 3: games you're gonna have to expect to win in Boston
- 25:44Speaker 3: and that they have great pitching, and you don't want
- 25:47Speaker 3: it to let it get to the eighth and ninth
- 25:49Speaker 3: inning because we know they have chapping in the ninth
- 25:51Speaker 3: and it's just one of those daunting tasks where you
- 25:54Speaker 3: know you got to get the lead and you got
- 25:55Speaker 3: to hold it.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And runs are going to be at a premium.
- 25:58Speaker 3: So I think this past weekend, playing those close games
- 26:00Speaker 3: like they did is really gonna show its head here
- 26:03Speaker 3: in Boston.
- 26:03Speaker 2: These these three games coming up.
- 26:06Speaker 4: They just accomplished so many things that they've really struggled
- 26:09Speaker 4: with throughout the year, winning on the road, winning a
- 26:12Speaker 4: back to back road series for the first time all year.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Like you pointed out, Steve, one run games, they had
- 26:19Speaker 4: the worst record in one run games. They won that
- 26:21Speaker 4: on Friday. They had a sub five hundred record in
- 26:24Speaker 4: extra inning games. They won that on Saturdays. So it's
- 26:27Speaker 4: huge and guys, just how crazy is it? Even going
- 26:31Speaker 4: back a couple of weeks ago, This series that starts
- 26:34Speaker 4: tomorrow night at Famway Park features the two hottest clubs.
- 26:37Speaker 5: In all of baseball.
- 26:39Speaker 8: You know, the Red Sox were dead and buried, the
- 26:43Speaker 8: Red Sox fired their manager back in April in Baltimore,
- 26:47Speaker 8: coincidentally enough, at Camden Yards and the Orioles obviously we
- 26:52Speaker 8: follow them every single day.
- 26:54Speaker 4: So you have the two hottest teams in all of baseball.
- 26:56Speaker 4: But something that the Oriols are going to have to
- 26:59Speaker 4: do they have struggled with throughout this year. It's win
- 27:03Speaker 4: against left handed pitching. Because Peyton totally, he gets the
- 27:06Speaker 4: start tomorrow for Boston, and then Jake Bennett he's projected
- 27:10Speaker 4: to start on Wednesday.
- 27:11Speaker 5: They're started for Tuesday's TBD.
- 27:14Speaker 4: So Orioles have had their fair share of struggles against
- 27:16Speaker 4: left handed pitching and they're facing two really strong ones
- 27:19Speaker 4: Monday and Wednesday.
- 27:21Speaker 1: So twenty four runs allowed by Boston and thirteen straight wins.
- 27:24Speaker 1: They gave up just ten in sweeping four from Tampa.
- 27:28Speaker 1: They've gone from thirty seven and forty eight to fifty
- 27:31Speaker 1: and forty eight, and you mentioned Monday night. Let's start
- 27:34Speaker 1: this series this way. Shane Boz for the Orioles four nineteen,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Peyton totally for the Red Sox. Now, Boz has been
- 27:41Speaker 1: really good in his career against the Red Sox two
- 27:43Speaker 1: sixty three eight six starts. Peyton Toley faced the Oriols
- 27:47Speaker 1: once this year, six scoreless against Baltimore June third at
- 27:51Speaker 1: Fenway might be low scoring like the Houston series. I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think Shane Bozz has a big one in them. I
- 27:56Speaker 1: think he is a gamer like Bradish. You mentioned Tim,
- 27:59Speaker 1: and I see him throwing a big game Monday night.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Maybe that's I'm wearing orange car glasses when I say that,
- 28:06Speaker 1: but he seems like a guy that would relish the
- 28:10Speaker 1: big game an October game.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Yeah, And you know, I think being in the Al East,
- 28:15Speaker 3: he's not going to be intimidated.
- 28:16Speaker 2: He's pitched him family before.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I'm sure he's facing the Red Sox a bunch, so
- 28:19Speaker 3: it's not like you have that factor in there at all.
- 28:21Speaker 3: And also Shane pass too, like I feel like his
- 28:24Speaker 3: last it's been like ten starts.
- 28:26Speaker 2: You kind of watch the start and you're like that's
- 28:28Speaker 2: it's okay.
- 28:29Speaker 3: But you look at his box score and the guy
- 28:31Speaker 3: somehow always gets to the sixth inning three runs are
- 28:34Speaker 3: less and he's given them a chance to win.
- 28:36Speaker 2: And I agree with you, Steve.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I think he goes up to Fenway and gives them
- 28:39Speaker 3: a chance to win like he does every other start,
- 28:41Speaker 3: and he's due for that big one.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I think it's one of.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Those five games a year where you go out and
- 28:45Speaker 3: you have absolute dominant stuff, and it would just be
- 28:48Speaker 3: a perfect time for you get that first win on
- 28:50Speaker 3: Monday Night, and from there, you just never know.
- 28:52Speaker 2: You'd be one game.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Back of the Red Sox in the wildcard standings, eight
- 28:55Speaker 3: in a row, and you just don't know where it
- 28:57Speaker 3: can go from there.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And I like that prediction, Steve. I'm with you.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I think I think he's due for having a big one.
- 29:01Speaker 3: He's been right, He's been so close to pitching unbelievable.
- 29:05Speaker 3: He's been very good, but I think he's due for
- 29:07Speaker 3: a big one here too coming up.
- 29:09Speaker 4: He's been on a really long stretch of really strong pitching.
- 29:13Speaker 4: And the night where his season really turned around for me, guy,
- 29:22Speaker 4: he was at NAT's Park where at that point he
- 29:24Speaker 4: threw a seas I in pitchman innings. He kept him
- 29:27Speaker 4: in the ball game throughout, gave up just three earned runs.
- 29:30Speaker 4: But he's really been so rock solid for them, not
- 29:34Speaker 4: super overwhelming or dominant, but Blake, you said, Brad, he
- 29:38Speaker 4: keeps him in the ball game every single time, and
- 29:39Speaker 4: he eats innings.
- 29:42Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun. Also, he's okay, put on an
- 29:45Speaker 1: orange colored glasses when I say this. They haven't hit
- 29:48Speaker 1: left as well. There's gonna be a night or a
- 29:51Speaker 1: series where suddenly Ward and Alonso hit lefties like they
- 29:54Speaker 1: expect them to. O'Neill's now hitting better. Maybe he joins
- 29:58Speaker 1: the fun Mayo. We know what he can do homered
- 30:01Speaker 1: off a lefty Sunday. So maybe one of these nights
- 30:04Speaker 1: they're due to get a lefty and Peyton Tully's had
- 30:06Speaker 1: a really great year for the Red Sox, but the
- 30:10Speaker 1: Ools are two back. The Red Sox hold a playoff spot.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Believe it or not. The Oriols tied the Twins today,
- 30:15Speaker 1: who lost as we tape this, and the Mariners were
- 30:20Speaker 1: losing as the time we tape this, So it could
- 30:22Speaker 1: be that the Orioles are chasing just one team when
- 30:26Speaker 1: they get to Boston. I mean crazy, crazy how it is? Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: in a few days.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It's crazy. I think last a couple weeks ago, forty.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Nine fifty one guys.
- 30:37Speaker 2: So crazy, it's crazy.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Two weeks ago we were, you know, talk about who
- 30:41Speaker 3: they're going to get rid of and all this thing.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Now you just never know.
- 30:43Speaker 3: That's that's why baseball is awesome, and I think that's
- 30:46Speaker 3: why fans love it so much, and that's why Oriols
- 30:48Speaker 3: fans should be excited right now, because, like I said,
- 30:50Speaker 3: it's not about the records.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It's a marathon.
- 30:52Speaker 3: It's one hundred and sixty two games for a reason,
- 30:55Speaker 3: and you just never know you could be ten games
- 30:57Speaker 3: out and next thing you know, you're looking at your
- 31:00Speaker 3: games out. It's just it can happen fast. And they're
- 31:02Speaker 3: on our role right now and they're playing how we
- 31:04Speaker 3: kind of expect them to play all year, and they've
- 31:06Speaker 3: done it at a perfect time, and you just never
- 31:08Speaker 3: know what can happen from here.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Wow, gonna be fun to watch three games see which
- 31:13Speaker 1: hot team loses to somebody. Yeah, because one of them
- 31:17Speaker 1: is gonna lose to somebody tomorrow night for the first
- 31:19Speaker 1: time in a long time. Hey, I hope you guys
