- 0:01Speaker 1: Why on Sky News.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is Shari.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Good evening and welcome to this special program. Our world
- 0:11Speaker 3: exclusive interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the wartime leader, tonight,
- 0:18Speaker 3: blames the Albanesi government for escalating diplomatic tensions, declaring it's
- 0:23Speaker 3: a result of the Australian Prime Minister's failure to show
- 0:26Speaker 3: leadership or conviction while Israel fights a war on behalf
- 0:31Speaker 3: of Western civilization. Netanyahu also accuses Albanesi personally of weakness
- 0:37Speaker 3: in the face of terror, and says that when murderous
- 0:41Speaker 3: Jihades praise the Australian government, you know there's a major problem.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It's the Israeli Prime Minister's first Australian interview since Hamas
- 0:51Speaker 3: invaded Israel, sparking the nearly two year war, and it
- 0:56Speaker 3: comes as the Israel Australia relationship is at its lowest
- 1:00Speaker 3: point in history, with the Albanesi government effectively accusing Israel
- 1:06Speaker 3: of war crimes and Netanyahu responding with searing public rebukes.
- 1:12Speaker 3: In our wide ranging interview tonight, Netanyahu is defiant, criticizing
- 1:18Speaker 3: Albanesi for lack of conviction, while imploring him to take
- 1:22Speaker 3: action against terror supporters to stop his complacency. Nettinjao, who
- 1:29Speaker 3: said that Australian leaders were trying to pacify supporters of
- 1:34Speaker 3: extremism and that appeasement would never work, as it hadn't
- 1:38Speaker 3: in nineteen thirties Europe. As Nettinnyjah, who sat down for
- 1:42Speaker 3: our interview, thousands of Israeli troops amassed on the border
- 1:47Speaker 3: of Gaza, ready to take over the city in a
- 1:50Speaker 3: month's long campaign. So what he had to tell me
- 1:54Speaker 3: could not come at a more critical time. Here it is,
- 2:00Speaker 3: Prime Minister, thank you so much for your time.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Good to talk to you again, Sharriff.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Now you've written a withering letter to Australian Prime Minister
- 2:10Speaker 3: Anthony Albanezi. Why do you believe history will remember him
- 2:15Speaker 3: as a weak politician?
- 2:18Speaker 4: Well, look, I'm sure he has a reputable record as
- 2:21Speaker 4: a public servant, but I think his record is forever
- 2:24Speaker 4: tarnished by the weakness that he showed in the face
- 2:27Speaker 4: of these Commas terrorist monsters. You know, when the worst
- 2:31Speaker 4: terrorist organization on earth, these savages who murdered women, raped them,
- 2:38Speaker 4: beheaded men, burnt babies alive in front of their parents,
- 2:42Speaker 4: and took hundreds of hostages. When these people congratulate the
- 2:48Speaker 4: Prime Minister of Australia. You know something is wrong, and
- 2:51Speaker 4: in fact it is wrong because to offer them a
- 2:54Speaker 4: state when they had a state, a de facto state
- 2:58Speaker 4: in Gaza, and they use it for murder, pillage and
- 3:02Speaker 4: monstrous crimes is to reward terrorism. And I think that's
- 3:05Speaker 4: the sign of weakness that, as I say, will tarnish
- 3:09Speaker 4: the Prime Minister's record.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And I said so openly.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Have you been shocked at the anti Semitism, the violence,
- 3:16Speaker 3: the hatred you've seen unfolding on our streets here in
- 3:19Speaker 3: Australia and then the lack of action and the lack
- 3:22Speaker 3: of leadership from the very top from our Prime minister.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Well, I was very dismayed.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I've seen this tsunami of anti Semitism, this racism, and
- 3:34Speaker 4: this targeting, of the deliberate targeting of the innocence, the
- 3:38Speaker 4: burning of a synagogue and Melbourne and so on. These
- 3:42Speaker 4: are horrible things. And you know, if you don't stop
- 3:44Speaker 4: them when they're small, they get bigger and bigger and bigger,
- 3:47Speaker 4: and ultimately they consume your society and they see the idea.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I think a lot of Western leaders are showing this
- 3:54Speaker 4: weakness or what Churchill call the slumber of democracies. He said,
- 3:57Speaker 4: democracies sleep. They go to sleep, and they wake up
- 4:02Speaker 4: only when they hear the jarring gong of danger. Well,
- 4:06Speaker 4: we hear more than a jarring gong. We hear alarm
- 4:08Speaker 4: bells all over the place where you have these fanatics,
- 4:13Speaker 4: these Islamist fanatics, who not only target Israel, want to
- 4:16Speaker 4: murder Israel, want to murder Arabs who don't share their
- 4:20Speaker 4: nefarious creed. They want to destroy the West, they say
- 4:23Speaker 4: so openly. And these people, when they demonstrate in Sydney,
- 4:28Speaker 4: or in Melbourne, or in New York or Washington, or
- 4:30Speaker 4: in the capitals of Europe, they should be counteracted, they
- 4:34Speaker 4: should be opposed, and they should be defied by the leaders.
- 4:39Speaker 4: And yet we see not in America, un happy to say,
- 4:42Speaker 4: because President standing strong, but in Europe, one country after
- 4:46Speaker 4: another succumbing to them, condemning Israel that is fighting these
- 4:52Speaker 4: monsters and is doing its best to avoid civilian casualties,
- 4:55Speaker 4: but basically giving a prize of a Palestinian state to
- 5:00Speaker 4: these people who want to use it to destroy the
- 5:02Speaker 4: one and only Jewish state. That is not merely the
- 5:06Speaker 4: slumber of democracies it's the weakness of democratic leaders who
- 5:10Speaker 4: at a time of testing should stand up and show leadership.
- 5:13Speaker 4: And leadership means standing up for the truth, standing up
- 5:16Speaker 4: for your conviction, standing up for the right side of
- 5:20Speaker 4: history and not for the wrong side that right now
- 5:23Speaker 4: is completely completely populated with these mass killers and terrorist bonds.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you reference Churchill and World War Two.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And I noticed that in the letter you wrote to
- 5:35Speaker 3: Albanzi that I got hold of, you use the word appeasement.
- 5:39Speaker 3: You set of their move to recognize the Palestinian state,
- 5:42Speaker 3: that it's not diplomacy, it's appeasement. Again, is this word
- 5:46Speaker 3: appeasement a direct reference to how Europe dealt with Hitler
- 5:50Speaker 3: in the nineteen thirties? And do you think we're seeing
- 5:53Speaker 3: from leaders like Albanesi and others a similar complacency?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Now, it's exactly what we're saying. It's appeasement, pure and simple.
- 6:03Speaker 4: It's again, if you refer to Churchill, he called us
- 6:07Speaker 4: the sacrifice of Czechoslovakia, another small democracy like Israel, that
- 6:12Speaker 4: was accused by Hitler that he took away land from
- 6:16Speaker 4: this German minority in the Sudanan land that's part of Czechoslovakia.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You have to give it up. You have to give
- 6:22Speaker 4: them a state. And if you give them a state
- 6:24Speaker 4: or independence, you know I'll let you go. I won't
- 6:27Speaker 4: start a war. Well, okay, the democracies pressed Czechoslovakia to
- 6:31Speaker 4: make that concession.
- 6:32Speaker 2: They gave that part to Hitler. And what did he do.
- 6:37Speaker 4: He immediately started World War Two, the worst war in
- 6:40Speaker 4: the history of humanity, that claimed millions and millions of people,
- 6:45Speaker 4: innocent people dead. Well, we're not going to repeat that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Israel is a small democracy, the only democracy in the
- 6:51Speaker 4: Middle East that is being assaulted by terrorist organizations and
- 6:56Speaker 4: other proxies of Iran and by Iran itself, and they
- 6:59Speaker 4: openly call for our destruction, and they openly.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Say that you're going to be you. The West will
- 7:03Speaker 2: be their next target.
- 7:05Speaker 4: And what do these countries do exactly what the Western
- 7:08Speaker 4: countries did towards Czechoslovakia before World War Two.
- 7:11Speaker 2: They're condemning.
- 7:13Speaker 4: They want to put Israel at tremendous risk by giving
- 7:16Speaker 4: this strategic piece of land right next to Jerusalem and
- 7:19Speaker 4: Tel Aviv to these Palestinians who want to destroy is world.
- 7:22Speaker 2: They don't even hide it.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Well, we're not going to do that, and we're not
- 7:26Speaker 4: going to repeat the mistakes that were made prior to
- 7:28Speaker 4: World War Two. But I can tell you one other
- 7:30Speaker 4: thing that Churchill said. He called the piece feeding the crocodile.
- 7:34Speaker 4: You know, you feed the crocodile that's chasing you in
- 7:37Speaker 4: the hope that he will somehow spare you. But he said,
- 7:40Speaker 4: he's not going to spare you. It's going to eat
- 7:42Speaker 4: everything you give and then eat you. And that's what
- 7:44Speaker 4: the you know, the Western leaders, including unfortunately in Australia,
- 7:48Speaker 4: are doing. They're trying to feed the crocodile of militant
- 7:51Speaker 4: Islam that has claimed the lives not only of Jews,
- 7:55Speaker 4: but Christians and Arabs, many Muslims and so on. And
- 7:58Speaker 4: they think they'll pacify them, appease the crocodile.
- 8:01Speaker 2: No, that won't. The more you pour fuel.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Into this anti Semitic, anti Israel and anti Western fire,
- 8:09Speaker 4: the greater the fire will grow.
- 8:11Speaker 2: It will consume you. In the end. You have no
- 8:13Speaker 2: protection unless you start up to it.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Part of the problem here is that there is a
- 8:19Speaker 3: very effective propaganda campaign being run against Israel. The Albanese
- 8:24Speaker 3: government is aiding and abetting it, so are some media outlets.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Prime Minister, what do you say to the libels that
- 8:32Speaker 3: Israel is deliberately starving Palestinian children and is conducting a
- 8:37Speaker 3: genocide in Gaza.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Well, it's the.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Same lies that were leveled that the Jewish people in
- 8:43Speaker 4: the Middle Ages. They said that Jews were killing Christian
- 8:47Speaker 4: children to use their blood. That's the This preceded a
- 8:52Speaker 4: lot of massacres against the Jews, culminating the worst massacre
- 8:56Speaker 4: of them all in the Holocaust. So it's the same
- 8:58Speaker 4: thing it's repeating itself, is starving Palestinians sold what lies?
- 9:02Speaker 4: I mean, we bought in two million tons of food
- 9:06Speaker 4: into Gaza since the beginning of the war. That's one
- 9:09Speaker 4: ton of food per every man, woman and child. Hamas
- 9:12Speaker 4: has been stealing this food and selling the remainder at
- 9:18Speaker 4: exorbitant prices to the Palestinian civilians they claim to represent.
- 9:22Speaker 4: That's what's causing the shortage. And as far as they're
- 9:24Speaker 4: killing deliberately civilians, I mean, Israel Is sent millions and
- 9:28Speaker 4: millions of text messages phone calls to Palaestinian civilians telling
- 9:34Speaker 4: them get out of harm's way. Hamas has implanted itself
- 9:37Speaker 4: in your neighborhoods and your schools and your communities get
- 9:40Speaker 4: out of harms way so that we can shepherd you
- 9:45Speaker 4: to safe places. And many did, but many didn't, not
- 9:48Speaker 4: because they don't want to, but because Hamas shoots them
- 9:51Speaker 4: if they try to get out of harm's way. So
- 9:53Speaker 4: as well as doing things that no army is done,
- 9:56Speaker 4: no army is done, and trying to avoid civilian casualties.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Just remember the Allies going into France or then into
- 10:03Speaker 4: Germany and they go into the cities. You think they
- 10:06Speaker 4: tell the population please leave so we can come in.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You know, they bumped through, they blaze them. I'm not
- 10:11Speaker 4: condemning them, I think you know. I'm not saying Churchill
- 10:15Speaker 4: in any way was it fault or Eisenhower. But Israel
- 10:18Speaker 4: is doing I'm just stating a fact. Israel is doing
- 10:21Speaker 4: what no other army has done. Not in Fallujah, not
- 10:25Speaker 4: any rock, not in Afghanistan. The lens that we go
- 10:28Speaker 4: to to protect the civilian population has been ounheard of.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Yet Israel is being vilified, just as in the Middle Ages.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And those leaders and those media outlets who know better,
- 10:40Speaker 4: should know better, should be ashamed of themselves for propagating this.
- 10:43Speaker 4: But I'll tell you one more things, Shary. You know
- 10:45Speaker 4: the jew may have been defenseless in the face of
- 10:48Speaker 4: these vilifications and lies in yesteryear, but not today. They
- 10:53Speaker 4: may get away with the pushing these lies against us,
- 10:57Speaker 4: but we do not succumb on the battlefield. We rolled
- 11:01Speaker 4: back those who would exterminate us, those who rate our women,
- 11:04Speaker 4: be at our men and burn our babies, and we'll
- 11:07Speaker 4: secure the peace. And when we win the peace, we'll
- 11:10Speaker 4: win both wars. We will win both the propaganda war
- 11:13Speaker 4: and the war on the ground and give a different
- 11:15Speaker 4: future for the people of Gazam and for ourselves.
- 11:19Speaker 3: You have had a strong supporter in United States President
- 11:22Speaker 3: Donald Trump. You mentioned that support a moment ago, both
- 11:26Speaker 3: in terms of anti Semitism, but also of course in
- 11:28Speaker 3: the fight against Iran. You've also got a strong personal
- 11:32Speaker 3: relationship with the President. Do you think he's dismayed or
- 11:36Speaker 3: even horrified by the Australian government's hostility towards Israel, It's
- 11:42Speaker 3: voting record in recent years at the United Nations.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Well, it's certainly dismayed us. And I think he sort
- 11:49Speaker 4: of said, you know, what these countries say is irrelevant,
- 11:52Speaker 4: And in the practical sense he's right, because we're not
- 11:55Speaker 4: going to commit suicide and put another Palestinian state right
- 11:59Speaker 4: next to our doorstep in Tel Aviva and Jerusalem, because
- 12:02Speaker 4: that's the distances are tiny. You know, Israel is like
- 12:05Speaker 4: a fraction of one percent. I think of Australia. Just
- 12:09Speaker 4: to give you your viewers and understanding, it's a tiny country.
- 12:11Speaker 4: And they want us to put in the middle of
- 12:13Speaker 4: this tiny country another Palestinian state. Another because we just
- 12:17Speaker 4: had one at the facto Palestinian state in Gaza. And
- 12:21Speaker 4: what did the Palestinians do with it that they take
- 12:24Speaker 4: care of their own people, that they build up Gaza, No,
- 12:27Speaker 4: they built it down into terror tunnels, to terra tunnels
- 12:31Speaker 4: for their terrorist monsters. And they openly declare their goal
- 12:34Speaker 4: is if you give them another opportunity, another state, they'll
- 12:38Speaker 4: do it again. They'll kidnap people, they'll rape the women,
- 12:42Speaker 4: they'll take the hostages, and they'll go to the extermination
- 12:45Speaker 4: of Israel.
- 12:46Speaker 2: That's their goal.
- 12:47Speaker 4: So when Prime Minister Albanezi and the leaders of France
- 12:52Speaker 4: and Britain.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And others, when.
- 12:56Speaker 4: They say, oh, we'll give them a Palestinian state, they're
- 12:59Speaker 4: actually warding terror and they're saying it doesn't matter what
- 13:04Speaker 4: horrors you people do, it doesn't matter that you say
- 13:07Speaker 4: that you'll go not only after Israel, but after the
- 13:09Speaker 4: United States. Death to Israel, America, death to the West.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Last time I looked, Australia was part of the West. Okay,
- 13:16Speaker 4: even it's in the east, but it's for our common
- 13:19Speaker 4: Judaeo Christian civilization. They want to tear it down and
- 13:21Speaker 4: destroy it. But it does matter. I think it's in
- 13:25Speaker 4: practical terms, No, it won't happen. But what will happen
- 13:29Speaker 4: as you will encourage more and more and more of
- 13:32Speaker 4: this radicalism in your own country and your old and
- 13:38Speaker 4: you will see this violence and this radicalism in your city.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Because if your leaders don't take a stand and they
- 13:45Speaker 4: say this is wrong, I know that what is being
- 13:48Speaker 4: portrayed in the media is false, and I, as a leader,
- 13:52Speaker 4: I take a stand. And I'm telling you citizens of
- 13:56Speaker 4: my country take a stand against that too. If you
- 13:59Speaker 4: don't do that, then the crocodile will get you in
- 14:02Speaker 4: the end.
- 14:03Speaker 3: And that's what we're seeing at the moment. Prime Minister.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I'm conscious of our time together. Look when I saw
- 14:09Speaker 3: you in your office about ten months ago, you spoke
- 14:12Speaker 3: to me about the threat of Iran, which you've since
- 14:15Speaker 3: dealt with You also spoke about your hopes for expanding
- 14:18Speaker 3: the Abraham Accord's a return to the normalization deal with
- 14:22Speaker 3: Saudi Arabia. Is this still your vision for peace in
- 14:26Speaker 3: the region, for having a stable and peaceful Israel?
- 14:31Speaker 4: Very much so. I think, you know, I believe in
- 14:34Speaker 4: a simple idea. It's simple, but I think profound. It's
- 14:37Speaker 4: called peace through strength. First comes to strength, then comes
- 14:42Speaker 4: the peace. That's the rule in our part of the world,
- 14:44Speaker 4: and I suspect also in your part of the world.
- 14:47Speaker 4: If you're strong, you can make peace. If you're strong,
- 14:50Speaker 4: you make allies. That's how it works. And Israel is strong.
- 14:54Speaker 4: It's strong. You're fighting, you know, with just means, a
- 14:58Speaker 4: just war against tremendous villef cation and lies. But we
- 15:01Speaker 4: don't give up. And I think we're on the verge
- 15:04Speaker 4: of completing this war, a seven front war that includes
- 15:07Speaker 4: Iran and its proxies. And when that happens, I think
- 15:10Speaker 4: we'll have tremendous opportunities to expand the peace I myself
- 15:14Speaker 4: made with President Trump, the Abraham Accords for peace treaties
- 15:19Speaker 4: with the Arab States that hadn't been done for a
- 15:22Speaker 4: quarter of a century. And I think after our victory.
- 15:25Speaker 4: We're going to have plenty more.
- 15:27Speaker 3: There are ports tonight that Hamas is on the verge
- 15:29Speaker 3: of accepting a deal for ceasefire. Is this true? And
- 15:34Speaker 3: do you still plan to take over Gaza and eliminate
- 15:37Speaker 3: the terrorists if they do agree to a deal.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Well, we're going to do that anyway. That's never a
- 15:43Speaker 4: question that we're not going to leave Comas there. I
- 15:46Speaker 4: think President Trump put in Bessie says, Caramas has to
- 15:48Speaker 4: disappear from Gaza. We can't leave these these It's like
- 15:52Speaker 4: leaving the SS in Germany. You know, you clear out
- 15:55Speaker 4: most of Germany, but what you leave out Berlin with
- 15:58Speaker 4: the SS and the Nazi core there?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Of course not. But I've said that this war could
- 16:03Speaker 2: end today.
- 16:05Speaker 4: It can ended if Kamas lays down its arms and
- 16:08Speaker 4: releases the remaining fifty hostages, at least twenty of which
- 16:11Speaker 4: are alive. And that's that's our goal, to get all
- 16:14Speaker 4: the hostages out, to disarmed Hamas, demilitarize Gaza, and give
- 16:20Speaker 4: a different future for Gazins. And by the way, you'd
- 16:22Speaker 4: be surprised, Sherry, I don't think this was true when
- 16:25Speaker 4: I last met you, but it's true today. We have
- 16:29Speaker 4: gasins fighting Hamas and they say Simons, don't they're very brave.
- 16:36Speaker 4: They fight Hamas. They say, free is from this hamas
- 16:40Speaker 4: At tourney. Our goal is not My goal is not
- 16:42Speaker 4: to occupy Gaza. It's to free Gaza, freedom from Hamas tourney,
- 16:47Speaker 4: Free Israel and others from Hamas terrorism, give a Gaza
- 16:51Speaker 4: and Israel.
- 16:52Speaker 2: A different future.
- 16:53Speaker 4: And I think we're we're close to doing it. It
- 16:55Speaker 4: will have to, of course, mean getting the last strongolds
- 16:59Speaker 4: of Hamas. They shouldn't be there. Everybody understand that. Get
- 17:02Speaker 4: rid of the crocodile very quick.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Last question, what will it take to restore the friendship
- 17:08Speaker 3: between Israel and Australia.
- 17:12Speaker 4: There's been a great underlying friendship there for over a century.
- 17:17Speaker 4: In nineteen seventeen, actually I had sorry. In twenty seventeen,
- 17:23Speaker 4: I had the one hundredth anniversary in Bersheba, celebration of
- 17:27Speaker 4: the Australian forces along with New Zealanders who actually liberated
- 17:32Speaker 4: Bersheba from Ottoman rule.
- 17:34Speaker 2: And you know, we had the.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Charge of the Australian Lighthorse re enacted. It was very
- 17:41Speaker 4: moving and we've had a great relationship over the years.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I think it's been gone astray because I think leaders
- 17:48Speaker 4: did not show the strength and conviction that they should
- 17:51Speaker 4: have when we're fighting. Actually we're fighting the war of
- 17:55Speaker 4: Western civilization against these barbarians. And I think ultimately, I
- 18:00Speaker 4: think most Australians will get it. If they don't get
- 18:04Speaker 4: it now, got it, I think many of them will
- 18:08Speaker 4: get it today and.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Many will get We'll get We'll get it.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Once we finish this war and give a future of
- 18:15Speaker 4: peace and prosperity. I want to assure you, I want
- 18:18Speaker 4: to assure them that we will win.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Prime Minister, thank you enormously for being here, for being
- 18:25Speaker 3: so generous with your time today. We greatly appreciate it.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Thank you, Thank you.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Chery so his.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Final message there, we will win. And as you just
- 18:37Speaker 3: heard Nadiyao, who said he would not be dissuaded from
- 18:41Speaker 3: a Gaza takeover. This is despite pressure from the United
- 18:45Speaker 3: Nations after Hamas indicated at the eleventh hour that it
- 18:49Speaker 3: was prepared to accept the same ceasefire proposal that it
- 18:53Speaker 3: had firmly rejected since May. Now Nadiyao, who says his
- 18:57Speaker 3: goal is to eliminate the last stronghold of Harma. He
- 19:00Speaker 3: said it was the only way to achieve security for
- 19:03Speaker 3: both Israelis and Palestinians. And he also said there that
- 19:07Speaker 3: the Wall was on the verge of being over verge
- 19:10Speaker 3: of being completed his words, and he spoke about his
- 19:13Speaker 3: hopes for an expanded Abraham Accortz all right for more analysis. Now,
- 19:18Speaker 3: let's bring in Sky new host James Morrow and James McPherson. James,
- 19:23Speaker 3: very strong words from Yahu. They wasn't taking a step,
- 19:28Speaker 3: a backward step in terms of his criticism of Albanzi
- 19:31Speaker 3: and other leaders like him, of their failure to have
- 19:35Speaker 3: any moral clarity or conviction since October seven.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, and I was listening to that with
- 19:39Speaker 6: great interest, Sherry, And I think he was absolutely right
- 19:43Speaker 6: about what he said about the Prime Minister and the
- 19:45Speaker 6: lack of moral clarity that we've had ever since October seventh.
- 19:50Speaker 6: I'm not sure that he went far enough because I think,
- 19:54Speaker 6: really what he's missed, or I'm sure he understands but
- 19:57Speaker 6: didn't want to articulate there, is that the or said
- 20:00Speaker 6: Prime mister Albiniz, he has taken with regard to Israel
- 20:04Speaker 6: Is something that he has had in his head literally
- 20:07Speaker 6: for decades. You know, he was a convener of Parliamentary
- 20:10Speaker 6: Friends of Palestine. He was a sharehouse socialist, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 6: at the university, this sort of pro Palestine, anti American,
- 20:18Speaker 6: anti Israel stuff. He would have been steeped in this
- 20:21Speaker 6: and grown up in it. And one of the really
- 20:23Speaker 6: interesting things here, one of the interesting threads that I
- 20:26Speaker 6: think the Prime Minister of Israel spoke about really quite articulately,
- 20:30Speaker 6: is that this is not just about Israel, and this
- 20:32Speaker 6: is why this is so important. Of course, it's about
- 20:34Speaker 6: Western civilization. And this is why I think this is
- 20:38Speaker 6: also critical because what you see when you see these
- 20:41Speaker 6: demonstrations for Palestine against Israel, there's a whole big thread
- 20:47Speaker 6: of Australian illegitimacy two that runs through them, and Australia,
- 20:52Speaker 6: to a large part of the activist as a large
- 20:56Speaker 6: part of the activist community believes, and there's a whole
- 21:00Speaker 6: long kind of leftist philosophical way that you can talk about,
- 21:04Speaker 6: but both Australia and Israel are both equally illegitimate settler
- 21:09Speaker 6: colonial states. And this is, you know, this is the
- 21:14Speaker 6: cancer within the West that right now I think is
- 21:17Speaker 6: eating away at us. It is not just that it
- 21:19Speaker 6: is an external threat like Iran, sponsoring Hamas or whatever.
- 21:23Speaker 6: You know, these sorts of groups hes blah, the who
- 21:26Speaker 6: this It is an internal intellectual virus that we have,
- 21:31Speaker 6: you know, that gets caught up in a toxic empathy
- 21:33Speaker 6: and it winds up creating these circumstances where you're not
- 21:37Speaker 6: just protesting against Israel and for Palestine, you're also protesting
- 21:42Speaker 6: against the very liberal democracy that we are enjoying and
- 21:47Speaker 6: that allow people to go out and act like this.
- 21:51Speaker 3: James, what I really think is quite admirable about Ndi
- 21:54Speaker 3: yao who is that? Right from the moment that October
- 21:57Speaker 3: seven happened on the same day you saw from the
- 22:00Speaker 3: Australian government from Foreign Minister Pennywong calls for restraint. I mean,
- 22:04Speaker 3: the terrorists was still at the kibbutzes and she was
- 22:06Speaker 3: calling for restraint. So he's been dealing with this hostility
- 22:11Speaker 3: from the international community, including from Australia. He's been incredibly restrained.
- 22:16Speaker 3: You know, these allegations that he's interfered in our domestic politics.
- 22:19Speaker 3: He didn't come out before the federal election. It wish
- 22:22Speaker 3: he would have. He didn't, you know, it's only that
- 22:25Speaker 3: it's come up now nearly two years on.
- 22:27Speaker 7: What struck me about that interview show. He was just
- 22:29Speaker 7: the steely determination of Benjamin netanya who he talked about
- 22:33Speaker 7: how previously the Jews have been taken advantage of they
- 22:36Speaker 7: have been slaughtered.
- 22:38Speaker 5: He said, not today.
- 22:39Speaker 7: They believe their enemies when they speak, as opposed to
- 22:42Speaker 7: Anthony Alberizi, who continually talks about the need to isolate
- 22:46Speaker 7: Anthony Albanesi's words, let's isolate Hamas.
- 22:49Speaker 5: You don't isolate evil, you destroy it.
- 22:51Speaker 7: At the beginning, if you interview Benjamin Netanyah who referred
- 22:54Speaker 7: to Hamas as monsters, and he reminded us as he
- 22:57Speaker 7: must continually do how this began on October.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Seven, beheading people, burning babies.
- 23:02Speaker 7: We don't like to hear it because it's horrible, but
- 23:05Speaker 7: that's the reality. And we've got a prime minister in
- 23:07Speaker 7: Australia who likes to deal with fantasy. Well, we'll talk
- 23:10Speaker 7: to Hamas, we'll isolate them, we'll get some sort of
- 23:13Speaker 7: a deal. Israel can't afford to deal with fantasy. They
- 23:16Speaker 7: are dealing with reality. And I was really struck by
- 23:19Speaker 7: the determination from Netanyahu and almost he wants a good
- 23:23Speaker 7: relationship with Australia, but not at the expense of his country.
- 23:26Speaker 7: He can't afford that, and so he's not going to
- 23:29Speaker 7: be put off by the moral high horse of people
- 23:32Speaker 7: like Penny Wong or Anthony Alberonizi who can take potshots
- 23:35Speaker 7: from a long way away. You've been to Israel, James,
- 23:38Speaker 7: you have, I have. It's a very small country, netnya
- 23:42Speaker 7: who can't afford their luxury beliefs, and that he's right
- 23:45Speaker 7: to call out the cowardice of the Australian leadership.
- 23:49Speaker 3: He also labored the comparison between World War Two, also
- 23:53Speaker 3: the Munich Agreement or Munich Betrayal, as it's known that
- 23:56Speaker 3: he referred to nineteen thirty eight, you know, when Europe
- 24:00Speaker 3: ceded Czechoslovakian land to Hitler. As he says, that didn't
- 24:05Speaker 3: appease Hitler. You can't appease dark forces or terrorists. But
- 24:09Speaker 3: this comparison to World War Two, even on the civilian
- 24:12Speaker 3: death toll, was really fascinating.
- 24:14Speaker 6: Well yeah, I mean, you know, and you can argue
- 24:17Speaker 6: about Israel's conduct in Gaza in specific instances, but I
- 24:22Speaker 6: think overall you have to say that you know the
- 24:24Speaker 6: way that they have conducted themselves, been trying to minimize
- 24:28Speaker 6: you know, the mayhem and the civilian chaos. But one
- 24:31Speaker 6: of the things too, that there's actually a couple of
- 24:33Speaker 6: important points. Number one. One of the things that I
- 24:35Speaker 6: always say, you know, if you say, oh, you know, look,
- 24:38Speaker 6: there's starving babies here in Gaza, there's sister's at atrocity,
- 24:41Speaker 6: you know, and so on and forth. You know, the
- 24:42Speaker 6: food so well, you know, people need to stop and
- 24:45Speaker 6: think and ask, you know, logically, who benefits from photos
- 24:50Speaker 6: of people starving in Gaza. It's not Israel, it's Hamas.
- 24:54Speaker 6: Hamas has a very very sophisticated propaganda war being run
- 25:01Speaker 6: for it with allies out of Iran, also out of Qatar,
- 25:05Speaker 6: who have spent decades building up a propaganda apparatus in
- 25:09Speaker 6: the West, including a universities, including in the media. That's
- 25:12Speaker 6: the first thing. The second thing too, though, you know,
- 25:14Speaker 6: we talk about World War Two, and you know, to
- 25:17Speaker 6: a certain extent, I think sometimes people get a little
- 25:19Speaker 6: bit carried away using World War Two as the only
- 25:21Speaker 6: frame of kind of any historical sort of thing. So
- 25:24Speaker 6: I always say, you know, also, let's look at, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 6: the other situation we've got playing out right now in
- 25:27Speaker 6: the world of that was Ukraine. Well, how many people
- 25:30Speaker 6: do you have.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I would love to.
- 25:31Speaker 6: See a ven diagram if I can do the Kamala
- 25:33Speaker 6: Harris thing here, I'd love to see a ven diagram
- 25:36Speaker 6: of people who say, well, Ukraine must not see a
- 25:39Speaker 6: single inch of territory to Vladimir Putin, and the number
- 25:43Speaker 6: of those who say, but you know, Israel, come on,
- 25:46Speaker 6: you know, let's go back to some previous border. Let's
- 25:49Speaker 6: go there, and they see this concede to Hamas you know,
- 25:52Speaker 6: and so on. Ed you know this, this this fight
- 25:55Speaker 6: here in Israel is really the one that is about
- 25:58Speaker 6: Western civilization, and I think more than any other conflict
- 26:01Speaker 6: going on in the West. When you look at the
- 26:03Speaker 6: World War two example again, you know, I mean, if
- 26:06Speaker 6: you want to talk about it, you know, the Allied
- 26:09Speaker 6: air campaign against Japan, the airliined air campaign against Nazi
- 26:12Speaker 6: Germany created mass, mass civilian counties because the object was
- 26:17Speaker 6: to break imperial Japan and to break Nazi Germany's will.
- 26:21Speaker 6: And Israel hasn't gone anywhere near that far.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I think there would be ABC viewers and readers of
- 26:28Speaker 3: the Citney Morning Herald and other nine products that would
- 26:32Speaker 3: have no idea that Israel, as Nadiyahu said, tonight literally
- 26:36Speaker 3: sends out millions of text messages and phone calls asking
- 26:40Speaker 3: people to get out of harm's way before it takes
- 26:42Speaker 3: any action. That its conduct is above and beyond any
- 26:46Speaker 3: other military in the world. They wouldn't know that they
- 26:49Speaker 3: This mass propaganda is so all pervasive, and it is
- 26:53Speaker 3: spread by the Albanese government as.
- 26:54Speaker 7: Well as Benjamin Netanya, who said no other military force
- 26:58Speaker 7: has ever done what the is Alees have done. Text messages,
- 27:03Speaker 7: one ton of food per person in Gaza. All of
- 27:06Speaker 7: this just goes over the heads of the critics of Israel.
- 27:10Speaker 7: And if they're trying to commit genocide, I mean, it's
- 27:12Speaker 7: the least successful genocide in the history of genocides.
- 27:16Speaker 5: If they wanted to be a genocide, they could.
- 27:18Speaker 7: Have done it in a day with overwhelming military powers.
- 27:21Speaker 7: They have not in an afternoon. Of course, so the
- 27:25Speaker 7: charge is ridiculous. Everybody knows it to be ridiculous. And
- 27:29Speaker 7: the fact that Israel are not only dealing with that,
- 27:31Speaker 7: but he pointed out they're fighting this war on seven fronts.
- 27:34Speaker 5: You've got to remember it's not just Hamas.
- 27:36Speaker 7: It's a run through all of their proxies, whether it's
- 27:38Speaker 7: the Hudis, whether it's Hezbollah, whether it's islamusts in Syria.
- 27:42Speaker 5: So Israel have got a.
- 27:44Speaker 7: Lot going on right now, and you've got to give
- 27:46Speaker 7: them enormous credit for the way they've conducted it.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Instead all they get is demonization.
- 27:51Speaker 3: And interesting that he actually talks about that as another war.
- 27:55Speaker 3: He says, we're dealing with the military war and the
- 27:57Speaker 3: proper Ganda war, and he believes eventually that Israel will
- 28:02Speaker 3: win both. I think that's potentially optimistic, James, because we
- 28:07Speaker 3: seem to have this entire generation of young people who
- 28:10Speaker 3: have been firmly indoctrinated through social media, through a university
- 28:14Speaker 3: setting to think that Israel is the enemy and is
- 28:17Speaker 3: committing war crimes.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Well, and in Australia they're taught not only that Israel
- 28:21Speaker 6: is the enemy with an Australia is the enemy, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 6: and that Western civilization is the enemy. So you know,
- 28:27Speaker 6: they're fighting a heart war it Israel. We're fighting an
- 28:31Speaker 6: intellectual cold war here in Australia. And also, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 6: in some ways in the United States, Donald Trump has
- 28:36Speaker 6: done an awful lot to reverse that, you know, through
- 28:38Speaker 6: a lot of very strong policies, you know, going after
- 28:40Speaker 6: universities and hotbeds of this sort of thing, and you know,
- 28:43Speaker 6: you're seeing all of the kind of the apparatus that
- 28:46Speaker 6: pushed that stuff ending there. We don't have that sort
- 28:48Speaker 6: of strength by any means here, and I wish we did.
- 28:51Speaker 6: But that said, you know, this is again it comes
- 28:54Speaker 6: back to what he was saying. This is a fight
- 28:56Speaker 6: about not just the survival of Israel, but Israel is
- 29:00Speaker 6: ubanized here, not just because it's Jewish and because of
- 29:03Speaker 6: the sort of historical anti Semitism, it's demonized because it's successful.
- 29:08Speaker 6: Right in the Marxist construct of modern wokeism, to be successful,
- 29:13Speaker 6: to be strong, to be powerful, is to be automatically
- 29:17Speaker 6: the villain and the aggressor. This probably started, i would say,
- 29:21Speaker 6: you know, at the conclusion of the Sixth Day War
- 29:23Speaker 6: in nineteen sixty seven, when Israel had another multi front war,
- 29:27Speaker 6: had smashed all of its enemies and suddenly became the
- 29:30Speaker 6: powerful state. And of course a lot of that anti
- 29:32Speaker 6: Isra propa Canada was then pushed by the Soviet Union
- 29:35Speaker 6: through the left, and we're experiencing the hangover that of
- 29:38Speaker 6: that decades later today.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Just a couple of specific things. He also urged action
- 29:43Speaker 3: against protesters there. There was a section of the interview
- 29:46Speaker 3: where he referred to the pro Palestinian protest movement in Sydney,
- 29:50Speaker 3: Melbourne and other cities as well, and he seemed exasperated
- 29:53Speaker 3: why leaders weren't standing up and calling it out and
- 29:57Speaker 3: taking action against it. Also he referred to but Donald
- 30:00Speaker 3: Trump's view of the decision by nations including Australia to
- 30:05Speaker 3: recognize the Palestinian state, and he said that Donald Trump's
- 30:10Speaker 3: view is that those nations and what they're doing is irrelevant,
- 30:15Speaker 3: and that is correct when it comes down to, well,
- 30:19Speaker 3: there's not going to be a Palestinian state. But it
- 30:21Speaker 3: was an interesting mindset to how again Little Trump considers Australia.
- 30:27Speaker 7: Yeah, well Australia, I mean Anthony Albanezi has admitted that
- 30:31Speaker 7: it's not going to make a big difference on the ground,
- 30:33Speaker 7: but it's a symbolic thing. You remember when October seven
- 30:37Speaker 7: happened and anti Blincoln went to a Jerusalem and he
- 30:40Speaker 7: talked about this is a moment for moral clarity. And
- 30:43Speaker 7: there's two types, as you've been expressing, James. There's the
- 30:45Speaker 7: moral clarity about the conflict in Gaza. There's also the
- 30:49Speaker 7: moral clarity about what's happening on the streets of Sydney
- 30:51Speaker 7: and Melbourne. What's been going on in this country, the
- 30:54Speaker 7: sorts of chants that have been going forward, the sort
- 30:57Speaker 7: of demonstrations that have been held, and on both counts
- 31:00Speaker 7: our government has failed. And Benjamin Ettanya, who was very
- 31:03Speaker 7: strong on the fact that Israel and not just fighting
- 31:06Speaker 7: a war on behalf of Israel in the Middle East,
- 31:08Speaker 7: they're fighting a war on behalf of Western civilization and
- 31:12Speaker 7: the values that we hold dear. And for the government
- 31:14Speaker 7: not to confront the anti sentimentism on our streets only
- 31:18Speaker 7: encourages more and they've failed dismally at that.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Well.
- 31:21Speaker 6: You know, the one thing that I find encouraging though,
- 31:23Speaker 6: is that there was that pall that resolved in for
- 31:26Speaker 6: the Herald. The found that more people were against the
- 31:29Speaker 6: recognition than for it. And you know, when it comes
- 31:31Speaker 6: to these protests again, remember this the government that is
- 31:34Speaker 6: beholden too demographics in western city and suburban Melbourne that
- 31:38Speaker 6: are very anti Israel.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Demographics are and their own personal ideology correct, which.
- 31:43Speaker 7: Is why the charge of cowardice Albany brings true because.
- 31:46Speaker 5: That's what it is.
- 31:47Speaker 7: It's either fear of certain sections of the population or
- 31:51Speaker 7: its self interest where you're trying to garner votes. It's
- 31:54Speaker 7: as simple and as evil as that, James.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Us person, James Murra, thank you both so much for
- 31:59Speaker 3: your type analysis. Now still to come as Nettiya who
- 32:03Speaker 3: blames Albanize's lack of conviction for the escalating tensions. Shadow
- 32:07Speaker 3: Defense Minister Angus Taylor will be here to talk about
- 32:10Speaker 3: what he thinks the government needs to do to repair
- 32:13Speaker 3: the stash. Plus, Jeff Kennett unleashes on Victoria Premier Jacinta
- 32:18Speaker 3: Allen and National Senator Mat Canavan will tell us why
- 32:21Speaker 3: he's starring in a Japanese cartoon. That's next Welcome back.
- 32:30Speaker 3: We'll have more analysis on the exclusive interview with Nettayao,
- 32:34Speaker 3: who in just a moment when I'm joined by Shadow
- 32:36Speaker 3: Defense Minister Angus Taylor, will hear what he thinks needs
- 32:39Speaker 3: to be done to get the Australia Israel relationship back
- 32:43Speaker 3: on track. But now let's bring in our panel, our
- 32:45Speaker 3: regular Thursday panel, National Senator Matt Canavan and WA Liberal
- 32:49Speaker 3: leader Basil Zemplss. Great to see you both, and Matt.
- 32:53Speaker 3: It seems like the two stars of the week have
- 32:56Speaker 3: been Jim Chalmers and Matt canavan because you stole the
- 32:59Speaker 3: show with your rival round table, or the real roundtable
- 33:04Speaker 3: as you've been calling it. So these are the four
- 33:07Speaker 3: key actions that you want the government to look at
- 33:10Speaker 3: to cut bracket creep, reduce government spending by four percent,
- 33:16Speaker 3: curb new NDIS entrance and as net zero targets. Matt,
- 33:21Speaker 3: tell us about your roundtable this week, and notice you
- 33:24Speaker 3: didn't have a press conference like Jim Chalmers did this afternoon,
- 33:27Speaker 3: so give us the update here.
- 33:31Speaker 8: Well, yes, sir shari I suppose I didn't need a
- 33:33Speaker 8: press conference this afternoon because it was all public. Everything
- 33:36Speaker 8: that was said at the round table was broadcast. Thank
- 33:39Speaker 8: you to Scott and News for doing that. Still available
- 33:41Speaker 8: on your YouTube channel for people to replay. And I
- 33:44Speaker 8: think we had some of the best and brightest economists
- 33:46Speaker 8: and business leaders in this country discussing frankly, the frankly
- 33:51Speaker 8: or economic performance of our country. We did so in
- 33:55Speaker 8: a no holds barred way. We tackled issues like energy,
- 33:58Speaker 8: industrial relations, etc. And as you can see from the
- 34:01Speaker 8: graphic you put up, there were some real tangible solutions
- 34:04Speaker 8: put forward. Take the government spending one, shari I love
- 34:08Speaker 8: we discussed.
- 34:09Speaker 2: In the room.
- 34:10Speaker 8: Yeah, we discussed in the room that the last budget
- 34:13Speaker 8: before COVID twenty eighteen nineteen, your federal government spent four
- 34:17Speaker 8: hundred and seventy seven billion dollars of your money. This
- 34:20Speaker 8: financial year, they're set to spend at seven hundred and
- 34:23Speaker 8: seventy eight billion dollars, a touch over three hundred billion
- 34:27Speaker 8: dollar increase in annual spending in just seven years. And
- 34:30Speaker 8: put that in household terms, hard to fathom. Three hundred
- 34:33Speaker 8: billion dollars. There are ten million households in Australia round
- 34:36Speaker 8: about round number. That's thirty thousand dollars per household every
- 34:40Speaker 8: year being spent extra compared to seven years ago. And
- 34:44Speaker 8: taking that four percent target that you mentioned, that would
- 34:47Speaker 8: take the increase down from three hundred billion just.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Out of two hundred billion.
- 34:51Speaker 8: Stills still a big increase, but a more moderate one
- 34:55Speaker 8: and save money. And importantly, what was recommended is those
- 34:59Speaker 8: when we do that, when we cut bracket creep, when
- 35:01Speaker 8: we cut spending, we should return that and tax cuts
- 35:03Speaker 8: to these train people.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And this does worry me that there doesn't seem to
- 35:08Speaker 3: be any attempt to rein in government spending. The discussion
- 35:11Speaker 3: seems to be more about where can we find more revenue. Basil,
- 35:15Speaker 3: do you think it's become politically impossible for federal governments
- 35:19Speaker 3: to look at reducing spending.
- 35:23Speaker 9: Well, you can certainly understand why people say that it
- 35:27Speaker 9: shouldn't be an impossible ambition though should and I think
- 35:29Speaker 9: to be very clear, and sometimes people confuse this. People
- 35:32Speaker 9: take the line that we want to reduce government spending
- 35:37Speaker 9: to reducing the public sector. That does not have to
- 35:40Speaker 9: be the case. They can be mutually exclusive, and often
- 35:43Speaker 9: they will be. But reducing spending should be an ambition
- 35:47Speaker 9: for all tears of government across Australia, and it certainly
- 35:51Speaker 9: should be at the federal level. And we've seen some
- 35:53Speaker 9: spending absolutely out of control. So I applaud Matt on
- 35:57Speaker 9: his initiative, the off Broadway version, if you like.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He all seemed very happy.
- 36:01Speaker 9: It was an intimate crowd, a bit more casual, and
- 36:05Speaker 9: it seems to have some real outcomes in terms of
- 36:09Speaker 9: targets and ambition. And after all, that's what we want
- 36:12Speaker 9: our politicians to be doing. That I don't all have
- 36:14Speaker 9: to agree, but we do want them generating ideas and
- 36:16Speaker 9: Matt and his team certainly did.
- 36:18Speaker 3: That no, and he did it very well. And Ross
- 36:20Speaker 3: greenwo did a great job as well. Now former Premier
- 36:23Speaker 3: Jeff Kennett has had an epic spray. He slammed Victorian
- 36:27Speaker 3: Premier Justinto Allen for the flailing economy, for soaring crime.
- 36:31Speaker 3: So Jeff Kennett first did an interview in The Nightly
- 36:34Speaker 3: with Aaron Patrick, who was on the show last night,
- 36:37Speaker 3: and he said, and I might have to get one
- 36:39Speaker 3: of you to read this out. I don't like reading
- 36:41Speaker 3: out so many swear words. But this was Jeff Kennett.
- 36:43Speaker 3: He said, I don't think people understand we are ft.
- 36:46Speaker 3: The economy here is ft. People will leave. I simply
- 36:50Speaker 3: cannot believe it. And then he was speaking about his
- 36:55Speaker 3: immense frustration with Victoria to Steve Price little earlier. Have
- 37:00Speaker 3: a look.
- 37:02Speaker 10: I cannot tell you how frustrated disappointed I am. Where
- 37:09Speaker 10: we find Victoria today. We are financially going down to
- 37:14Speaker 10: the Google very quickly, which is which is affecting all
- 37:17Speaker 10: of our services. But worse, we've now got this lack
- 37:22Speaker 10: of focus on actually addressing this lawlessness, which has almost
- 37:28Speaker 10: become a competition between some of our young today.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I mean, Matt, you can't disagree with that. But then
- 37:35Speaker 3: we see this new polling which shows support for Jacinta
- 37:38Speaker 3: Allen's government is only increasing from twenty two percent in
- 37:42Speaker 3: January to now thirty two percent. I mean, how can
- 37:45Speaker 3: you explain this?
- 37:48Speaker 8: Well, look, I'm not a Victorian Shari, so it's a
- 37:51Speaker 8: little hard to explain because I would disagree with Jeff
- 37:55Speaker 8: in one respect. I don't think people will leave Victoria.
- 37:58Speaker 8: They are already doing so. Almost every second person I
- 38:01Speaker 8: seem to meet in my hometown of Yperne as a
- 38:04Speaker 8: refugee from Victoria, plenty of them have moved up.
- 38:08Speaker 1: They've had enough, they've gone.
- 38:09Speaker 8: And look, I suppose one problem here is perhaps everyone
- 38:13Speaker 8: that's upset with the labor government's already.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Gone, so that's why they're pulling. Numbers are going up.
- 38:19Speaker 8: But clearly, I suppose the challenge for the opposition here
- 38:21Speaker 8: is to just offer that credible alternative. I think where
- 38:24Speaker 8: I do agree with Jeff is speaking frankly about the
- 38:27Speaker 8: issues facing that state. They are an enormous amounts of debt,
- 38:29Speaker 8: their economy has not recovered from the enormous lockdowns of COVID,
- 38:33Speaker 8: and it's a drag on a national economy.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So look, I think the way to win.
- 38:38Speaker 8: From opposition is to be clear about your plans and
- 38:42Speaker 8: clearly outline how you're going to make a bad situation
- 38:46Speaker 8: in Victoria much better.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Well, Matt, maybe need to give that advice to your
- 38:49Speaker 3: own party, your own coalition on how to win from opposition,
- 38:52Speaker 3: because I don't think they have any idea what they're
- 38:54Speaker 3: doing either. But Basil, Jeff can It also spoke about
- 38:58Speaker 3: surging crime in Victoria. Now, this is a really serious issue,
- 39:02Speaker 3: and I think Jeff captured the sentiment when he said,
- 39:05Speaker 3: for the first time in my life, I'm constantly thinking
- 39:08Speaker 3: about my personal safety and that of my grandchildren. I mean,
- 39:11Speaker 3: you just hear this all the time from Melburnian's regular
- 39:15Speaker 3: families are getting attacked in this crime wave.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I think we need to understand DOMI.
- 39:22Speaker 9: Jeff Kenned is a lot of things, but he's a
- 39:23Speaker 9: very proud Victorian, and he has a very distinguished and
- 39:27Speaker 9: proud legacy as the premiere of that great state. And
- 39:31Speaker 9: he is genuine in his frustration and genuine in his disappointment,
- 39:35Speaker 9: not only for the net debt which just continues to spiral,
- 39:38Speaker 9: but when personal safety is at these levels and people
- 39:42Speaker 9: on the street are genuinely fearful, and we hear lots
- 39:46Speaker 9: of people post lots of stories. I too, am not
- 39:48Speaker 9: a Victorian and struggle to understand lots of things about Victoria.
- 39:51Speaker 1: But we see lots of stories from.
- 39:53Speaker 9: Mums and dads talking about how unsafe they feel in
- 39:57Speaker 9: their communities and there is nothing. And safety are the
- 40:01Speaker 9: two most important things to any Australian citizen, and it
- 40:04Speaker 9: seems that one of them is spiraling dangerously out of control.
- 40:08Speaker 9: The other is also spiraling. As we said Net Debt
- 40:11Speaker 9: and I feel for Victorians, many of them great people.
- 40:14Speaker 9: But it's also seen that for a long time Victoria
- 40:17Speaker 9: has been or has become, very much a labor state,
- 40:20Speaker 9: and from the outside looking in, that is difficult to understand.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Yeah, well, most of Australia are labor states at the moment,
- 40:26Speaker 3: of course, except for your neck of the woods. Matt. Now, Matt,
- 40:30Speaker 3: not only have you had your own roundtable this week,
- 40:32Speaker 3: but you're also now starring in your own cartoon.
- 40:39Speaker 1: This spil.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Especially as your KHMS.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Just underseas.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Matt, what is this all about?
- 41:01Speaker 1: I'm still laughing about it.
- 41:03Speaker 8: Hey, Charon Charry, I'm not I'm not very big here
- 41:06Speaker 8: in Australia, but I'm huge in Japan.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Massive.
- 41:11Speaker 8: You want to be Look, I've discovered that's right, I've
- 41:16Speaker 8: discovered these these dark outs out there, a few few friends.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I'm not looking around with AI.
- 41:21Speaker 8: Doing this good like it's good to have a laugh,
- 41:23Speaker 8: Like I've had a serious week. Politics can get a
- 41:25Speaker 8: bit serious sometimes I'm all for just laughing about things,
- 41:29Speaker 8: laughing about yourself.
- 41:30Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know if you have had a
- 41:32Speaker 3: serious week. I mean, you set up on the lawn
- 41:34Speaker 3: outside Parliament. But I'll take your word for it, Basil.
- 41:38Speaker 3: I think by next week maybe.
- 41:39Speaker 1: We enjoying myself. I've been enjoying Myself's good.
- 41:42Speaker 3: That's good.
- 41:42Speaker 1: That's what list version for me.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yes, exactly.
- 41:49Speaker 9: I just said that I can't understand Victoria and from
- 41:51Speaker 9: the outside looking in, I've got no idea. I've got
- 41:53Speaker 9: absolutely no idea about what's going on in Canavan's cart town, none.
- 42:00Speaker 1: No meaning subtitles.
- 42:03Speaker 3: All right, he'll send you the leks so you can
- 42:05Speaker 3: evanalyze it later. All right, Vasil Zampelis, Matt Canavan, thank
- 42:08Speaker 3: you both so much. Now still to come. Israeli Prime
- 42:12Speaker 3: Minister Benjamin Nettinja, who tonight accused Albanesi of being weak
- 42:16Speaker 3: and lacking conviction or to Shadow Defense Minister Angus Taylor
- 42:20Speaker 3: agree with him. He'll be up next. Welcome back and
- 42:27Speaker 3: joining me now, Shadow Defense Minister Angus Taylor, Angus, thank
- 42:30Speaker 3: you very much for your time. Now you heard what
- 42:33Speaker 3: Nettiyah who had to say earlier this hour. He pulled
- 42:36Speaker 3: no punches in his assessment of the Albanese government's approach
- 42:39Speaker 3: to diplomacy, and he blamed Australia for the diplomatic tensions.
- 42:44Speaker 3: He put it down to alban Ezi lacking in conviction
- 42:47Speaker 3: since October seven. Do you agree with him?
- 42:52Speaker 11: Well, can I congratulate you on that interview, Shari, and
- 42:56Speaker 11: can I say that what we have seen from Australia
- 43:00Speaker 11: from the government, of course the Labor government is a
- 43:03Speaker 11: shameful moral fail on the premature recognition of Palestine. This
- 43:08Speaker 11: was the wrong decision. It's rewarding terrorists and it was
- 43:12Speaker 11: an act of weakness by Albanizi as he capitulated to
- 43:16Speaker 11: the ideological left in his party rather than doing what
- 43:20Speaker 11: we know is right, which is waiting for the preconditions
- 43:24Speaker 11: that are necessary for a two state solution which we.
- 43:26Speaker 2: All want to see.
- 43:28Speaker 11: I mean, I thought Netnia, who was very thoughtful on
- 43:31Speaker 11: his comments on the path forward from here in the
- 43:34Speaker 11: Abraham records and the importance of those. This is the
- 43:37Speaker 11: process we all want to see towards peace. But there's
- 43:40Speaker 11: preconditions for peace, and a key one is to not
- 43:43Speaker 11: have terrorists running Gaza, not to have Hamas in control.
- 43:46Speaker 3: And we are not there yet, and it seems pretty sensible.
- 43:49Speaker 3: And this is one of the great contradictions of the
- 43:51Speaker 3: Albanesi government's position is that they say Hamas can have
- 43:55Speaker 3: no future role in the governing of Gaza, but that
- 43:58Speaker 3: in the same breath for Israel to withdraw from Gaza.
- 44:02Speaker 3: So there's no clarity around how they think the terrorists
- 44:07Speaker 3: will be defeated. I mean, your shadow Defense minister, there's
- 44:10Speaker 3: no other way to remove her Maas, is there except
- 44:13Speaker 3: through a military option.
- 44:16Speaker 11: Well, it's fantasy land Shari. The idea that her Maas
- 44:20Speaker 11: would have no role at this point if Israel completely withdrew,
- 44:26Speaker 11: I think is fancy, fanciful. It's just not right. I mean,
- 44:30Speaker 11: they are terrorists, they are brutal, they are monsters, as
- 44:35Speaker 11: Netna who put it, They behead men and rape women,
- 44:39Speaker 11: and it's completely unacceptable to have them in a position.
- 44:44Speaker 11: Whether they're not only still militarized.
- 44:47Speaker 1: They are in a.
- 44:47Speaker 11: Position where they can play a very influential role in
- 44:50Speaker 11: any future government of Gaza at this point. So those
- 44:53Speaker 11: preconditions need to be met. Her mass needs to be
- 44:56Speaker 11: out of the way, we need to have agreed borders
- 44:59Speaker 11: and so on. These are preconditions that have been understood
- 45:02Speaker 11: for a long while. Albaniz he threw them all away.
- 45:04Speaker 11: He's capitulated to the left of his party. He is weak,
- 45:08Speaker 11: He's long been weak on these issues, and sadly, I
- 45:12Speaker 11: think the result of that we're seeing, you know, there's
- 45:14Speaker 11: real risks that we're going to see more extremism in
- 45:16Speaker 11: this country as well.
- 45:18Speaker 3: So in capitulating to the left of his party, as
- 45:21Speaker 3: you put it, do you then agree with Nadig Yahoo
- 45:24Speaker 3: that it is Albanesi who has recklessly risked the longstanding
- 45:28Speaker 3: Israel Australia friendship.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Well, we all.
- 45:32Speaker 11: Want to see peace in the Middle East, and Benjamin
- 45:36Speaker 11: nah made that very clear in your interview with him,
- 45:39Speaker 11: but we're not going to get there by capitulating to terrorists.
- 45:43Speaker 11: And the demand from Albanisi that Israel do that, I
- 45:48Speaker 11: think is completely unacceptable and I can understand why Israel
- 45:53Speaker 11: is upset about that because it's unrealistic, it's not going
- 45:55Speaker 11: to work, and it's not the right answer. And sadly,
- 46:00Speaker 11: it's clear where this government is going, and it's joined
- 46:02Speaker 11: with a bunch of left wing governments from around the
- 46:05Speaker 11: world in making what I think is a really poor decision,
- 46:09Speaker 11: and history will hold it out to have been a
- 46:11Speaker 11: very poor decision as well.
- 46:14Speaker 3: So Israel is currently proceeding with its plans to I mean,
- 46:18Speaker 3: he says, it's not occupy guars of it to take
- 46:21Speaker 3: over Gaza City at least temporarily to rid it of
- 46:25Speaker 3: Hamas terrorists. We're seeing the troops move in as we
- 46:30Speaker 3: speak now. And n Ettaya, who argues that this needs
- 46:32Speaker 3: to happen to eliminate all the terrorists also to return
- 46:36Speaker 3: the hostages, do you think this step is necessary?
- 46:41Speaker 11: Well, you know, I'm not an expert on Israel's military
- 46:44Speaker 11: strategy and I don't pretend to be. What I will say,
- 46:47Speaker 11: Shari is that Israel has every right to defend itself
- 46:51Speaker 11: against what were truly brutal attacks, and the hostages have
- 46:56Speaker 11: not been released, and that, of course is another critical
- 46:59Speaker 11: preach andition, and Hamas is still in an influential position
- 47:04Speaker 11: so self defense is a reasonable position for Israel to
- 47:07Speaker 11: be taking. I think we must continue towards trying to
- 47:12Speaker 11: find a two state solution that should that that is
- 47:15Speaker 11: the right answer, But the reality is we are not
- 47:19Speaker 11: there yet. And you know, you can understand a pragmatic
- 47:23Speaker 11: approach that Israel is needing to take.
- 47:26Speaker 3: In terms of the Australian government's policy position, I mean,
- 47:29Speaker 3: do you think this is truly one of the lowest
- 47:32Speaker 3: points in Australian government foreign policy history to have a
- 47:37Speaker 3: designated terrorist group applauding your moves and your ally, the
- 47:43Speaker 3: only democratic state in the Middle East basically calling you
- 47:47Speaker 3: out for being weak and lacking conviction.
- 47:51Speaker 11: Well, it is a shameful moral fail and I feel
- 47:54Speaker 11: that as an Australian I think it is truly shameful
- 47:58Speaker 11: and the government has simply got it wrong. And of
- 48:01Speaker 11: course Albernese has come out and been deeply critical of
- 48:05Speaker 11: Netna who for criticizing him.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Well, you know.
- 48:08Speaker 11: What, the Labor Party has never held to a convention
- 48:12Speaker 11: that leaders from around the world shouldn't criticize leaders in Australia.
- 48:15Speaker 11: I remember very well when Macron was deeply critical of
- 48:19Speaker 11: Scott Morrison when he was Prime Minister and the Labor
- 48:22Speaker 11: Party egged it on. I mean, the double standards in
- 48:24Speaker 11: what we're seeing from Alberanesi right now are truly extraordinary.
- 48:29Speaker 11: I think what we should be continuing to push for
- 48:31Speaker 11: is peace. The best way to get to peace is
- 48:34Speaker 11: through strength, as ann who rightly puts it, and that
- 48:38Speaker 11: means ridding Gaza of her mass, the influence of her mass,
- 48:42Speaker 11: of these terrible terrorists, these monsters, and trying to get
- 48:47Speaker 11: back to a stable situation which we all want to.
- 48:49Speaker 3: See so much common sense. Angus TNA, thank you very
- 48:52Speaker 3: much for joining us live tonight and we'll be back
- 48:55Speaker 3: in just a moment. And if you missed our exclusive
- 49:01Speaker 3: interview with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the show,
- 49:05Speaker 3: you can watch it on our website skynews dot com
- 49:08Speaker 3: dot you. Thank you for your company this week. I
- 49:10Speaker 3: see you Monday at eight. And here's pol Mari
