- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, it's May. And if you ever wonder what's the point,
- 0:11Speaker 1: maybe actually after the weekend that we just had, we
- 0:14Speaker 1: should be going asking what's the two points, because there'd
- 0:16Speaker 1: be a couple of teams wondering that this week where
- 0:19Speaker 1: were the two points? But anyway, oh so much netbull
- 0:23Speaker 1: that we watched on the weekend and it was so exciting.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And it's the week of Mother's Day, which for some
- 0:27Speaker 1: of us is also very exciting but will likely be
- 0:30Speaker 1: very disappointing. But anyway, up until then, you're on No Dribble.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Strappy.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:49Speaker 1: talk about netball, where we talk about so much more.
- 0:51Speaker 1: My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I'm Cath Cobbs, I'm Lose Alice.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Hello. Hi, Hi, you're a little bit croky today, So
- 1:02Speaker 1: we may get Catherine having to go offline every now
- 1:04Speaker 1: and then because she's she's a bit of a scratchy throat.
- 1:08Speaker 4: But you're feeling okay, you can put a little bit
- 1:10Speaker 4: dusty on top of I didn't have to work yesterday
- 1:15Speaker 4: and he had one game of neppule this weekend.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Who work equals much drink.
- 1:20Speaker 4: And equals pants yes, and it was good fun because
- 1:24Speaker 4: we're at a pub that had the netball on. Was
- 1:28Speaker 4: sitting there wine sending photos to Kim Green and Kira Tromp,
- 1:33Speaker 4: who were on the Queen behind me.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Well, give it a shout out. A pub that's going
- 1:37Speaker 1: to be playing the netball. We want to get behind it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Where do we all?
- 1:40Speaker 4: I had to ask them to change the channel, but
- 1:42Speaker 4: they did. But no, I'm not telling people where it was.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I might go back, you might go back there.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you. A couple of weeks ago, I
- 1:50Speaker 1: was at the Opha hotel in Orange and they were
- 1:52Speaker 1: happy to put the netball on on a Saturday night.
- 1:54Speaker 4: For me too, So so good, very civilized way to
- 1:58Speaker 4: sit and watch the needy and the kids. But I
- 2:00Speaker 4: was funny because there was a stack of people there.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I noticed none were watching the football that was on,
- 2:04Speaker 4: so I thought, I'll go and get the channel change.
- 2:06Speaker 4: No one certain will care. But then I looked around
- 2:08Speaker 4: again and there was a lot of families that had
- 2:11Speaker 4: turned and we're watching the netball. When it went on,
- 2:13Speaker 4: I was like, yes, this is great. Kids eyes peeled
- 2:17Speaker 4: on the screen.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Well, they wouldn't have been disappointed. There were four really
- 2:22Speaker 1: good games on the weekend.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, it was mental.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It was mental. I mean, obviously we'll talk a little
- 2:27Speaker 1: bit more about that. But yesterday I'm feeling very virtuous
- 2:30Speaker 1: because I don't know about you guys, but I'm having
- 2:33Speaker 1: a problem with my phone again. I'm trying very hard
- 2:36Speaker 1: to manage being deliberate when I look at my phone.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And so Sunday morning is the only morning we don't
- 2:42Speaker 1: have to set an alarm. So but we still wake
- 2:45Speaker 1: up at a quarter to six, because you know, that's
- 2:47Speaker 1: the way life goes, isn't it. You can only sleep
- 2:49Speaker 1: in on a day that the alarm is going to go.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But instead of looking at our phones, the children were
- 2:53Speaker 1: both asleep. But they're both old enough to be left now.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So we just went for a bushwalk. Walked out of
- 2:58Speaker 1: our health because we lived near at Lane co National Park.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Hardly ever go there, and it's like this is paradise,
- 3:04Speaker 1: this is like we live in this country with so
- 3:07Speaker 1: much natural, unspoiled beauty. And it was funny because during COVID,
- 3:12Speaker 1: obviously that's where everyone was going. It was like pitt Street,
- 3:16Speaker 1: this bush walk down in the Lane Cave National Park
- 3:18Speaker 1: there and we encountered two people. This time. It wasn't
- 3:21Speaker 1: super early, but it's so everyone everyone's gone back to
- 3:24Speaker 1: their gone back to their old ways. But Durne COVID's like,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I've got to get these kids out of the house somehow.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Did you look at your phone or did you wake
- 3:32Speaker 5: up and go rite no phone at all?
- 3:35Speaker 1: So looked at the phone because and Saturday night is
- 3:39Speaker 1: the only night, or Saturday and Sunday nights the only night.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I don't have my phone in the bedroom now because
- 3:44Speaker 1: my son is at boarding school. I have it near
- 3:47Speaker 1: me at all times because then I can convince myself
- 3:50Speaker 1: that I'm still somehow involved in the parenting process of
- 3:53Speaker 1: this child who was wrapped two weeks away from being eighteen.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So started looking at it, had a coffee and then
- 4:01Speaker 1: I just went, what are we doing? We said we're
- 4:03Speaker 1: not going to do this. So it's like put our
- 4:04Speaker 1: phones out. I left my phone at home.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Did you feel like you diddes On? I almost feel
- 4:11Speaker 4: like I'm missing a bra or a seat belt or
- 4:13Speaker 4: something huge. If I leave the house without my phone,
- 4:16Speaker 4: I love it.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, if you accidentally leave your phone behind, that's
- 4:19Speaker 1: a different thing. But when you make a decision to go,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I am going to separate myself from this device that
- 4:25Speaker 1: I lived quite a lot of my life perfectly happily without.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It feels it feels really virtuous, right, Yeah, But if
- 4:32Speaker 1: I didn't have my fit bit or my phone, then
- 4:35Speaker 1: it would be like, well, if the data of this
- 4:37Speaker 1: walk is not being captured, is the walk actually happening?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Is there any point in getting out amongst all the
- 4:43Speaker 1: natural beauty and having any low grade exercise if there's
- 4:46Speaker 1: no proof of it?
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that is true, That is true.
- 4:49Speaker 5: But do you remember back in the olden days, like
- 4:51Speaker 5: I used to love waking up on a Sunday morning
- 4:53Speaker 5: and we used to get the Herald the paper home
- 4:55Speaker 5: deliver it when I lived in the city, and it
- 4:58Speaker 5: was just so good to get up and sit in
- 5:00Speaker 5: bed and have some cups of tea or coffee and
- 5:02Speaker 5: look through read the paper. But it doesn't quite feel
- 5:04Speaker 5: It feels a bit dirty. And when you're doing the
- 5:06Speaker 5: same thing reading your phone for hours. The newspaper was
- 5:10Speaker 5: something fore I.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Did too, And funny because all of the I've noticed
- 5:14Speaker 4: on the weekend we had our first game of netball
- 5:16Speaker 4: for the kids, and it's all e scoring. Now I
- 5:20Speaker 4: like the paper writing the paper down. Even I had
- 5:23Speaker 4: to do some paperwork that was emailed to me that
- 5:25Speaker 4: I had to fill in and send back. I printed
- 5:27Speaker 4: it off. You feel, But I just I love the
- 5:32Speaker 4: feeling of writing in a form instead of doing it online.
- 5:35Speaker 4: There is a bit of a thing about that, but
- 5:37Speaker 4: I agree. I love an old school newspaper.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I went to the on Saturday morning watched my daughter play.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm not coaching, I'm not doing anything. I sat there,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I drank coffee. I was distracted. I had conversations. I
- 5:51Speaker 1: tried very hard not to coach my daughter from the sidelines.
- 5:54Speaker 1: When children came up to me and some of the
- 5:57Speaker 1: other parents at the break, I said, go and listen
- 5:59Speaker 1: to coach. And that was all I did. That was
- 6:02Speaker 1: the only involvement I had, and it was lovely.
- 6:05Speaker 4: That's very free.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 4: One day, one day, Hey, Elizabeth, I had a great
- 6:09Speaker 4: running on my flight home from Adelaide on Sunday morning.
- 6:13Speaker 4: One of our all time favorite air hosts. I have
- 6:20Speaker 4: not seen him in this It's beautiful. Yeah, Dave works
- 6:24Speaker 4: for Quarters. As soon as I got on, he just
- 6:27Speaker 4: gave me the biggest high and he said, oh my gosh,
- 6:30Speaker 4: I'm so excited. To see I'll come down and talk
- 6:32Speaker 4: to you. So he was looking after business class. He's
- 6:35Speaker 4: at the shanky end and I was down in Plebville.
- 6:38Speaker 4: But what he did say to the rest of the
- 6:40Speaker 4: staff was get down there and look after Catherine. So
- 6:42Speaker 4: they came down and they said, now, Dave said, we
- 6:45Speaker 4: have to offer you a sparkling wine or a bloody
- 6:47Speaker 4: Mary because it was in the morning. And I said,
- 6:49Speaker 4: it's not even nine o'clock. I know he knows me well,
- 6:52Speaker 4: but all pass, thank you, And.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You said it's not even nine o'clock yet, so I'll hope.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll have to thanks.
- 6:57Speaker 1: What about the people sitting either side of you? Basically
- 7:00Speaker 1: gets fat upon.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Anyway, he finally came down his house.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Liz, how's Gorney?
- 7:07Speaker 4: I haven't seen them on flights for ages, blah blah blah.
- 7:09Speaker 4: I had a good chat. Yes, anyway, so I got
- 7:11Speaker 4: very very sport. I've got another big hugg as I
- 7:14Speaker 4: exited the plane and he said to pass on his
- 7:16Speaker 4: hello for you.
- 7:17Speaker 1: How lovely do you know?
- 7:19Speaker 3: Sometimes?
- 7:19Speaker 4: Well?
- 7:19Speaker 3: I often.
- 7:20Speaker 5: One of the reasons I don't see Dave anymore is
- 7:22Speaker 5: because I mainly fly Virgin now and you know you
- 7:25Speaker 5: fly too much.
- 7:26Speaker 3: When the host is go.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Oh, it's great to see you again, You're like, yeah,
- 7:29Speaker 5: I know, we all fly too much.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 7:32Speaker 5: There's a couple now who occasionally will bring me come
- 7:35Speaker 5: and hand me a coffee cup right to take away.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Coffee cup, but it is not coffee in it. It is.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Love that So I just occasionally sit on a fly
- 7:46Speaker 5: and I don't know what the person next to me
- 7:49Speaker 5: thinks because it's obvious it's not coffee. And I refuse
- 7:51Speaker 5: to drink it like champagne through the little lid with
- 7:53Speaker 5: the hole in it. So I take the lid off
- 7:55Speaker 5: and there and I see it and like, so, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 5: someone has said to me once, is that about the
- 8:01Speaker 5: just friends?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Oh my, go sit there and sit my coffee cup.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Like you know, if I was at home, there is
- 8:07Speaker 5: no way that I would drink champagne out of a
- 8:08Speaker 5: paper cup. But when you're on a flight up the back,
- 8:11Speaker 5: not in business class, but somebody actually gives you that
- 8:14Speaker 5: little bit of business class gold, it's like, oh, this
- 8:16Speaker 5: is so nice.
- 8:17Speaker 4: But you'd also not drink it at nine o'clock in
- 8:19Speaker 4: the morning, but you do it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Any time once. It's like international waters, isn't it My
- 8:27Speaker 1: friend was once traveling overseas and his dad was on
- 8:30Speaker 1: the same flight. And my mate, Locke, was in economy
- 8:33Speaker 1: and his dad was in business, and so at some
- 8:35Speaker 1: stage his dad asked the flight attendant, could you send
- 8:39Speaker 1: this glass of wine back to my son in economy,
- 8:42Speaker 1: And Locke said, you know the little plastic water cups
- 8:45Speaker 1: with the with the peel of so long said, could
- 8:48Speaker 1: you send this up to my dad? Class?
- 8:54Speaker 4: Oh love it about it?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Hey?
- 8:57Speaker 4: Can we quickly talk about your T shirt?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yes?
- 9:00Speaker 4: I rock up And I was like, Oh, that's the
- 9:01Speaker 4: coolest little Dolly patent T shirt. And I think you
- 9:04Speaker 4: need to share the information with everyone that you shared
- 9:06Speaker 4: with me.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Well, it is a little Dolly Parton shirt. So I
- 9:09Speaker 1: bought it last year when I was in the US,
- 9:12Speaker 1: And those of you who've been dribbling for a while
- 9:13Speaker 1: would remember that I am. A couple of times in
- 9:16Speaker 1: the last few years, I've been fortunate enough to go
- 9:19Speaker 1: to Idaho with my dad to take him to a
- 9:23Speaker 1: university reunion. But you set me a mission, and I
- 9:27Speaker 1: had to bring back a whole bunch of American lollies.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So I went to Walmart and I bought this Dolly
- 9:33Speaker 1: pat and T shirt in children's.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Oh my god, it makes me laugh because I was
- 9:43Speaker 4: wandering through Target the other day and you know how
- 9:45Speaker 4: they've got a maternity section now, and they've got a
- 9:47Speaker 4: petite section, and I somehow ended up in the petite
- 9:50Speaker 4: and I looked up and then I just walked straight
- 9:52Speaker 4: back out fad point even looking in.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Go back where you came from, Catherine.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Go back to the tool ladies.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I love it. So it is at least at large kids,
- 10:05Speaker 4: I think so.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, although I can I do now when I remember
- 10:09Speaker 1: to get my exercise tights from children's wear because they
- 10:13Speaker 1: are significantly cheaper than buying them in ladies were So
- 10:18Speaker 1: for those La dribblers, if you're on the smaller side,
- 10:21Speaker 1: smaller statue side, check out children's wear for your active wear.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Good on you?
- 10:31Speaker 3: Is that a no dribble recommends.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Child slightly creepy?
- 10:38Speaker 1: But anyway, shopping to the children's department, it's not a euphemism.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It is actually shopping for clothes in the children's department. Yeah, okay,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I haven't done that, but you have been shopping.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I have been. Oh my god. So let me tell
- 10:51Speaker 4: you about two online orders. The last two have been
- 10:55Speaker 4: a disaster grace one turned out really well and the
- 10:59Speaker 4: other one is still a disaster. And it's annoying because
- 11:02Speaker 4: I'm so excited to get the thing I ordered, and
- 11:05Speaker 4: I haven't told anyone about what it is because I
- 11:08Speaker 4: want to surprise them. I had one for both of you.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I know. Do I tell you now? Because it's probably
- 11:13Speaker 4: never coming. It feels like it's a scam.
- 11:14Speaker 1: No, you'll get it right. Keep going into it and
- 11:16Speaker 1: get it right. I don't know. Liz all in favor
- 11:22Speaker 1: of Catherine telling.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Us, well, is it good for the story?
- 11:28Speaker 4: It's an awesome It's an awesome thing. Oh see, I
- 11:33Speaker 4: have to say, well, come on, come on, Okay, I
- 11:36Speaker 4: found and then you can get as excited as me. Right,
- 11:38Speaker 4: I found wands. Have you seen these ones? You screw
- 11:42Speaker 4: the star at the end of the stick and it's
- 11:44Speaker 4: got to slip. You put your credit card in and
- 11:47Speaker 4: then you put the stick.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yes, I saw that.
- 11:50Speaker 4: When you go anywhere, you tap like a fairy and
- 11:55Speaker 4: is the coolest thing I've seen them People going through
- 11:58Speaker 4: like McDonald's drive through or what and they go to
- 12:01Speaker 4: tap their wand and the people holding the thing of
- 12:03Speaker 4: what is wrong with you? Are you crazy? And it beats,
- 12:05Speaker 4: and like, oh my god, what is happening? So I
- 12:07Speaker 4: ordered ten of them because I'm so excited, but it
- 12:10Speaker 4: looks like so I went through Amazon, but it looks
- 12:12Speaker 4: like the supplier is a scam. So it's somewhere it's
- 12:18Speaker 4: saying it somewhere. I've paid all this money for all
- 12:20Speaker 4: these warms, and I'm going to fight this one until
- 12:23Speaker 4: I'm blue in the face because I'm excited for my ones.
- 12:26Speaker 4: The other one I ordered some jeans. I didn't realize
- 12:29Speaker 4: they came from Germany anyway, So they finally get here.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Of course they don't fit, do they, And then you've
- 12:34Speaker 4: got to send the bastards back to Germany.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Spens to management.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, anyway, it's been about three weeks, had no
- 12:41Speaker 4: response to them about the refund or there was nothing
- 12:44Speaker 4: in my bank account. Finally send them an email and
- 12:47Speaker 4: I've tracked down where it is. It's stuck in some
- 12:50Speaker 4: place in Germany waiting to be collected. So I send
- 12:53Speaker 4: them all of that. They refund my money straight away,
- 12:56Speaker 4: which is great customer service. Well done team, And literally
- 13:01Speaker 4: the next day these jeans rock up back at my house,
- 13:04Speaker 4: returned to sender. Oh so I've ended up with the
- 13:06Speaker 4: jeans back and they've refunded me.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Oh okay, well, oh that's not well the jeans fit.
- 13:12Speaker 4: No, well they might do. They're a bit big, but
- 13:15Speaker 4: they're really good. I ordered them because they're super long. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 4: so I will do something with them. But I've had
- 13:20Speaker 4: a big wing.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 3: I see.
- 13:27Speaker 5: I'm impressed, Catherine that you are buying things online, because
- 13:30Speaker 5: if I lived in the city, I wouldn't bother. When
- 13:33Speaker 5: I moved up to the country, I thought, oh, well,
- 13:35Speaker 5: I'll just shop for clothes online now, but I can
- 13:38Speaker 5: never get it right and they turn up and they're
- 13:40Speaker 5: not what I wanted, and then it's half an hour
- 13:42Speaker 5: to drive into the town, into town to the post office.
- 13:44Speaker 5: And as you two know, when we first did the
- 13:47Speaker 5: first couple of podcasts and we started that I dribble,
- 13:50Speaker 5: there was at a six month period where there was
- 13:52Speaker 5: an ASOS bag the same.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Time in the office, the same one.
- 13:56Speaker 5: I just couldn't get my ship together to sort of
- 13:58Speaker 5: get the refund done and send it back.
- 14:00Speaker 3: So as a result, I don't show up online anymore.
- 14:02Speaker 5: And because I don't really shop when I'm in the
- 14:06Speaker 5: city for meetings or work or anything, I've stayed by clothes,
- 14:10Speaker 5: so eventually I'll be sitting here naked because everything's fallen apart.
- 14:13Speaker 5: But it isn't an excellent money saving device. The other
- 14:16Speaker 5: online shop that I really struggle with. So my sister
- 14:19Speaker 5: does a lot of online grocery shopping. Oh yeah, And
- 14:22Speaker 5: I don't know if it's because I'm a control freak,
- 14:24Speaker 5: but I've tried it.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Whenever you say next it is because you're a comference.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Because I like control freak.
- 14:29Speaker 5: So I tried it, and you know, like some things
- 14:32Speaker 5: get swapped out because I never get the press around
- 14:36Speaker 5: to say if the brand's not there, don't don't swap
- 14:40Speaker 5: it for something else, And so stuff gets swapped out
- 14:43Speaker 5: and I'm like, no, that is not even close to
- 14:45Speaker 5: what I wanted. And then if it doesn't get swapped out,
- 14:49Speaker 5: then I'm not there to choose something that's similar that
- 14:51Speaker 5: I like.
- 14:51Speaker 3: So I did it a couple of times. I'm like, nah,
- 14:54Speaker 3: this again. I saw.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I did drive half an hour into town to get
- 14:56Speaker 5: the three things that didn't turn up, So I think
- 14:59Speaker 5: just online shopping. I'm too old, I'm too cranky, I'm
- 15:01Speaker 5: too much of a control free Thank you for coming
- 15:04Speaker 5: to my ted talk.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I will stop the online shopping because it does.
- 15:07Speaker 4: It draws me nuts and nothing ever fits me.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I would need to stop drinking before I can commit
- 15:12Speaker 1: to stopping online shopping.
- 15:14Speaker 4: That's weird. That's because it's a slippery stove. If I
- 15:17Speaker 4: wasn't sober, I should take my phone.
- 15:20Speaker 1: No, you weren't wearing you. So I had a topic
- 15:24Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about a couple of weeks ago,
- 15:25Speaker 1: but I thought, no, Catherine won't understand this topic because
- 15:28Speaker 1: you're not a Harry Potter person. Since you've mentioned once,
- 15:31Speaker 1: I'm going to bring this up. So I was watching
- 15:33Speaker 1: when we were at the Swifts a couple of weeks ago,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and looking at the super shot. So in Quidditch, which
- 15:39Speaker 1: is the game they play in Harry Potter on the Brooms,
- 15:42Speaker 1: there's a thing called the golden Snitch, and if someone
- 15:46Speaker 1: catches the golden snitch during the game, this bloody thing
- 15:50Speaker 1: goes pinging around very aggressively. I must say, it's this
- 15:52Speaker 1: flying gold ball. But if someone catches it, it's immediately
- 15:56Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty points and the other team wins.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And lewis proposing that Netball consider some type of golden
- 16:03Speaker 1: snitch rule for super netball that it's like, what is
- 16:07Speaker 1: one thing that you could do in the last minute
- 16:10Speaker 1: of the game that could turn it over? And I thought,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't think netball fans would love it, but it's
- 16:17Speaker 1: fun to think about what it could be and maybe
- 16:19Speaker 1: just for like one round or one match have that
- 16:23Speaker 1: have have it like a charity match or something with
- 16:26Speaker 1: a golden snitch sold one end of the court to
- 16:29Speaker 1: the other and it's a five pointer or something, if
- 16:32Speaker 1: you know.
- 16:32Speaker 4: But it's got to be super hard. Yeah, well, I'm
- 16:36Speaker 4: picturing a variety kid with chopsticks and a flight kind
- 16:39Speaker 4: of thing.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Okay, all right, that's quite a departure from netball.
- 16:42Speaker 5: I feel like I do feel like when JK. Rowling
- 16:45Speaker 5: wrote Harry Potter and wrote the quidditch stuff she did,
- 16:49Speaker 5: I reckon she had netball in mind because she's quite
- 16:51Speaker 5: evidently a mash up of soccer and netball, right, because
- 16:55Speaker 5: you're scoring the goals.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Have you been drinking champagne out of a paper company?
- 16:58Speaker 5: No? No, it's but like gs golden snitch GS.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Nice.
- 17:03Speaker 3: You know there's a bit of that action. There's there's
- 17:06Speaker 3: bludges could also be gs.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yes, it could be.
- 17:11Speaker 4: It depends on the bluing, is it isn't the bludging?
- 17:15Speaker 5: So that's yeah, yeah right, So I just feel like
- 17:19Speaker 5: there's a little bit of Nettie in there.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I like it though. I like that idea.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Can you imagine like winning by a substantial margin and
- 17:27Speaker 5: then and then just has a golden snitch just comes
- 17:30Speaker 5: in and everything's taken away. I do like it, though
- 17:32Speaker 5: I wonder what it could be.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's a very unsatisfying way to lose a game, though,
- 17:38Speaker 1: isn't it. I think that the gold is problematic as.
- 17:41Speaker 4: There was a few on the weekend.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Well yeah, but you know it's in their own hands
- 17:47Speaker 1: for the whole game, isn't it. We will be talking
- 17:50Speaker 1: a lot about that, Liz. Yes, you've had a tough week.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I have had a tough week, so last week might
- 17:59Speaker 3: be full dog Merlow we live on a farm. We
- 18:02Speaker 3: have a long driveway.
- 18:03Speaker 5: There's a bit of traffic for people working here and
- 18:05Speaker 5: doing things. Merlow was a We got him of another
- 18:11Speaker 5: family who were on a farm and then moved into town.
- 18:15Speaker 5: And he was beautiful and he was out forever dog. Unfortunately,
- 18:20Speaker 5: he had a predilection for chasing cars and he used
- 18:23Speaker 5: to like, not just chase them, but run in front
- 18:25Speaker 5: of them to try and stop them driving.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Out the driveway.
- 18:27Speaker 5: We had worked for two years with him to try
- 18:29Speaker 5: and not get him to do that, and he was
- 18:31Speaker 5: okay with our cars, but a car that he was
- 18:33Speaker 5: less for me with drove down the driveway in the
- 18:35Speaker 5: dark recently, and unfortunately Merlow was run over and killed.
- 18:39Speaker 5: So it sounds really harsh to say it.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 18:44Speaker 5: If I had had to say this five days ago,
- 18:46Speaker 5: then this is when I would burst into tears. And
- 18:49Speaker 5: I'm still I'm still a bit sort of whenever I
- 18:51Speaker 5: talk about it. It's just really quite emotional. But it's
- 18:54Speaker 5: been quite a big week for our family, and it's
- 18:57Speaker 5: probably the first experience of grief for City Austin that
- 19:03Speaker 5: he would be really cognizant of, you know, and the
- 19:06Speaker 5: kids were particularly close to the dog. So it's been
- 19:09Speaker 5: a bit of a shit week actually the last five days.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I'd happened at the end of last week. So yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I know I did. I said to you
- 19:17Speaker 5: guys this morning, I've came prepared with nothing.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I've got nothing.
- 19:20Speaker 5: I've got nothing because I'm just so sad and I
- 19:25Speaker 5: think when you live on a farm, you're sort of
- 19:28Speaker 5: used to the circle, like the cycle of life, right,
- 19:30Speaker 5: so you know, we we do send animals off to
- 19:34Speaker 5: the avatoir, and we're sort of used to it, but
- 19:37Speaker 5: it's different when it's your pet. So it's just.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Been really sad, Like there's like a Merlow shaped hole.
- 19:44Speaker 5: So yeah, it's just and you know, he was such
- 19:49Speaker 5: a perfect dog.
- 19:50Speaker 4: He is so beautiful, so beautiful.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's and the grief is real, you know, losing
- 19:57Speaker 1: a pet is, you know, And I've been a cat
- 20:01Speaker 1: owner more than a dog owner, and I know a
- 20:04Speaker 1: lot of people don't like cats, and I get that,
- 20:06Speaker 1: but you know, when my cats died, I was really devastated.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And you know, it's like the personal relationship that a
- 20:13Speaker 1: family or a household has with an animal. It can't
- 20:16Speaker 1: really be understood, but it's very real and it's very sad.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I'm sorry, thank you.
- 20:22Speaker 5: And you know, sometimes I get home late at night
- 20:24Speaker 5: everyone from meetings or whatever, and everyone had been in
- 20:26Speaker 5: bed sept Melow, you'd be waiting for me, so yeah, see,
- 20:31Speaker 5: And I'm sorry to bring such a bummer story to
- 20:33Speaker 5: what is generally very happy podcast.
- 20:35Speaker 3: But I had lots of people deal with this and
- 20:36Speaker 3: it's just so sad when it happens.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Well, you guys, I know it's very soon after to
- 20:40Speaker 4: be asking the question, but will you get another dog?
- 20:44Speaker 2: Oh?
- 20:44Speaker 5: We actually need another dog, right because like my gut
- 20:47Speaker 5: feeling was, I can't get another dog. I just can't
- 20:50Speaker 5: fall in love with another dog. But we've got chickens.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I've got twenty bloody twenty five chickens or twenty seven chickens,
- 20:58Speaker 5: and we have we have gotten two wedge tard eagles
- 21:03Speaker 5: who we bloody love, but they like the chicken for lunch,
- 21:06Speaker 5: you know, And whenever we don't have a dog, we
- 21:08Speaker 5: lose chicks. So I much prefer for the wage tared
- 21:12Speaker 5: eagles to concentrate on the rabbits that are in the paddock.
- 21:14Speaker 5: So we probably need a dog just to And there's
- 21:16Speaker 5: also wild dogs around here and foxes, so having the
- 21:18Speaker 5: dog just helps to protect the chickens.
- 21:21Speaker 3: But oh, look, and I don't really want.
- 21:24Speaker 5: To go and get a puppy because I just don't
- 21:26Speaker 5: have the patience to do that again. So but I
- 21:29Speaker 5: think what we'll do is we'll just wait to see.
- 21:32Speaker 5: You know, people, lots of people get dogs, and it
- 21:35Speaker 5: just doesn't quite work out for reasons. So I'm sure
- 21:37Speaker 5: there'll be a dog out there waiting for to.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Come and live with us and to be our friends,
- 21:41Speaker 3: as if.
- 21:42Speaker 4: They wouldn't want to be on your farm.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Well yeah, it's a great life as long as they
- 21:47Speaker 5: don't chase cars.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, I will, thanks, I will lighten the mood
- 21:54Speaker 1: and give you a moment to catch your breath though,
- 21:57Speaker 1: and say we've just started watching it on a bit
- 21:59Speaker 1: late to the peace com from accounts, have you guys
- 22:01Speaker 1: a lotus? Which, of course the whole the inciting incident
- 22:08Speaker 1: is a dog getting hit by the door, and for
- 22:10Speaker 1: anyone who's worried, the dogs of ives. But yeah, so
- 22:13Speaker 1: it's it that it's I don't know, it's just a
- 22:16Speaker 1: cheerier segue.
- 22:17Speaker 4: And it's a segway into our great date that we had.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Oh it is too but hanging up to blow my nose.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Sorry, okay, sorry, sorry, Alex. Will we'll take a pause now, Liz,
- 22:28Speaker 1: that was really good.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Thank you? Oh yes, you know you don't. Grown ups
- 22:34Speaker 5: aren't meant to cry.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Well yeah they are.
- 22:37Speaker 3: No, it's not. Just gives me a headache, and.
- 22:41Speaker 1: It is, it's so draining isn't it.
- 22:43Speaker 5: It takes me days to recover from a big cry,
- 22:45Speaker 5: like days not you know, your little kids cry and
- 22:49Speaker 5: then they're over it, bouncing back up.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Maybe, Like I wonder if that.
- 22:53Speaker 5: You know, as you get older, you lose your cartilage,
- 22:55Speaker 5: so if you go for a run, it takes your
- 22:57Speaker 5: days to get over it.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Words, kids can run the days.
- 22:59Speaker 5: That's but like I wonder if there's like a raw
- 23:04Speaker 5: oh no, whereas when you're a kid, you can cry
- 23:06Speaker 5: and then it's done. Whereas you know, when I cry,
- 23:09Speaker 5: it's like, oh my god, I still feel My last
- 23:11Speaker 5: big cry was sort of Saturday. What's to day Monday?
- 23:14Speaker 5: I'm still I'm two days post cry and I feel
- 23:17Speaker 5: like I still need to go and have an ice bath.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It's almost like a hangover, isn't it? Like it really
- 23:21Speaker 1: does physically kind of it does?
- 23:24Speaker 5: It feels like, Yeah, it feels like I've been drinking
- 23:27Speaker 5: without the fun of the night before, well the morning before.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Depending if your cat's.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Run on a playing she's back now, well here she is. Yes,
- 23:39Speaker 1: So we were just you were going to tell everyone
- 23:42Speaker 1: about our date on Thursday, which was very fun.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yes, So we went to see The Devil Wears Prada too,
- 23:49Speaker 4: and it was in the beautiful old theaters like the
- 23:52Speaker 4: original Old theater was georgeous. Yeah, but he is the
- 23:56Speaker 4: love interest. Patrick Brammle has a love interest. That was
- 24:01Speaker 4: a weird.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I thought that was a kind of strange relationship. So
- 24:06Speaker 1: I want to say I loved the movie. It was
- 24:09Speaker 1: exactly what it said on the box. It gave me
- 24:11Speaker 1: exactly what I wanted. It didn't change my life in
- 24:13Speaker 1: any way. It hasn't made me smarter. It was just
- 24:16Speaker 1: it was two hours of pure entertainment. It was exactly
- 24:20Speaker 1: what I wanted it to be. But I thought it
- 24:23Speaker 1: was interesting in their whole romance. There was nothing physical
- 24:27Speaker 1: shame between them except the kiss at the yes. Yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 1: so yeah, we'll No, we haven't ruined anything for anyone
- 24:34Speaker 1: because it's called quite predictable, but it's really good. I
- 24:38Speaker 1: thought it was nice to see Patrick Brammle there playing
- 24:40Speaker 1: an Australian in an America, so I wasn't trying to
- 24:44Speaker 1: do an American accent or whatever. But No Dribble recommends
- 24:47Speaker 1: take yourself out and see The Devil Wears prior to too,
- 24:50Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes things can just be fun and
- 24:53Speaker 1: light and entertaining and that is worthwhile, and especially if
- 24:56Speaker 1: you've had a rough.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Week and a question your take on a little friend
- 25:02Speaker 4: of yours who sits next to you with a boisonberry
- 25:05Speaker 4: choc top, who eats all of the chocolate off and
- 25:08Speaker 4: then dips the ice cream into the popcorn. Wow, yeah,
- 25:13Speaker 4: your nae.
- 25:15Speaker 3: It's not something that I would do.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But I've never seen it before.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Okay, but I have become aware in the last week
- 25:22Speaker 5: of people who mix ice cream and popcorn because I
- 25:25Speaker 5: like the sweetness of the ice cream and the saltiness
- 25:27Speaker 5: of the popcorn.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I'm not knocking you. I've just never seen it before
- 25:31Speaker 4: and I wanted to get your take on it, so
- 25:33Speaker 4: I do need. I will try it next time.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I highly recommend it. Don't eat all the chocolate off first,
- 25:39Speaker 1: just enough to get the ice cream so you can
- 25:41Speaker 1: because the chocolate and the ice cream and the salty
- 25:44Speaker 1: popcorn is very good. So yeah, I knew you were
- 25:48Speaker 1: judging me.
- 25:49Speaker 3: No, totally. It's all about judgment, and Takatherine gets he exercise.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Can we just go back to the devil as prior
- 25:54Speaker 3: of too though?
- 25:55Speaker 5: If you haven't already, go and have a look at
- 25:58Speaker 5: Harriet Dyer, who is Patrick Brammel's wife, and have a
- 26:01Speaker 5: look at her Instagram page. She's put together the funniest
- 26:03Speaker 5: clip of herself watching her husband and Ann Hathaway, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 5: be together and hung and it's just it's so funny.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I just had a look.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Now it's got three point four million views. A lot
- 26:15Speaker 5: of dribblers may have already seen it, but it is
- 26:17Speaker 5: absolutely hilarious.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved it, and I just thought that that
- 26:21Speaker 1: seems like who she is, right, you know. It seemed
- 26:24Speaker 1: very authentic and reacting to your seeing your husband kiss
- 26:29Speaker 1: Times most Beautiful Woman of the Year on screen.
- 26:32Speaker 4: The other thing you have to do is google them
- 26:34Speaker 4: doing the Bafter's Award presentation. The two of them did
- 26:39Speaker 4: it together because Colin from Accounts is so big and
- 26:41Speaker 4: is it American BAFTA, British? Sorry, what did I say?
- 26:46Speaker 1: Originally American?
- 26:48Speaker 4: Anyway, so o, my brain's not working. It wasn't the Baftis,
- 26:51Speaker 4: I'm sure of it. They were over in the UK
- 26:53Speaker 4: because Colin from Accounts is so big over there, so
- 26:55Speaker 4: they got to present this award and they stuffed. It's
- 27:00Speaker 4: the funniest thing, though. You got to go and watch it.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Everyone in the crowd was losing it just with their traditional.
- 27:06Speaker 5: So so I watched Colin from Accounts on my way.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I binched it all the way to South Africa when
- 27:11Speaker 5: I went to the jungle for Celebrity and then obviously
- 27:15Speaker 5: got out of the jungle, raved to Matthew and made
- 27:19Speaker 5: him watch it, and then we got like Celebrity got
- 27:22Speaker 5: nominated for a LOGI.
- 27:23Speaker 3: So I went to the logis.
- 27:24Speaker 5: And Patrick Brevle was on the red carpet and I
- 27:27Speaker 5: just walked up and went, oh my god, I love
- 27:29Speaker 5: Colin from account so much and sated blabbery. And he
- 27:31Speaker 5: looked at me like I look at people when they
- 27:33Speaker 5: walk up to me, and I'm like, oh, okay, no,
- 27:37Speaker 5: I know how I look at people when they start
- 27:39Speaker 5: talking to me and I don't know them, but they're
- 27:41Speaker 5: saying nice things to me.
- 27:42Speaker 3: So I want to be engaged.
- 27:44Speaker 5: But I'm also like, I'm going through the list of
- 27:46Speaker 5: do I know you have we met before?
- 27:48Speaker 3: You know you have that hule And so he looked
- 27:50Speaker 3: at me like that. I was like, heyy, I've just
- 27:53Speaker 3: embarrassed myself. I'm going there anyway.
- 27:55Speaker 5: He was gorgeous and really like gorgeous and graceful, but
- 27:58Speaker 5: I was such an.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Is that the fan girl moment you've ever had? Because
- 28:02Speaker 4: I know you meet the lebs all the time, but
- 28:04Speaker 4: that's the first time you've been writ into something and
- 28:06Speaker 4: you've met the person.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Is that's funny.
- 28:09Speaker 4: I've never seen you lose your shit.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I wish I was there.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I know.
- 28:12Speaker 5: I mean I saw you and Gordy lose your ship
- 28:14Speaker 5: that time over and act a selfweaight Worth, which was
- 28:16Speaker 5: the funny thing deal I've ever seen before.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Whenever the freak from Wentworth actually scared the shit out
- 28:22Speaker 4: of us. We're upset. Anyway, they're doing another thing.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Ray with Patricia Rabe. Is that who it was?
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yes?
- 28:29Speaker 4: I think you might be right.
- 28:30Speaker 5: Yeah, Patria was lovely, but you guys were like so
- 28:33Speaker 5: scared that she was like, it's a character. I play character.
- 28:36Speaker 5: That was the funniest thing that and I have never
- 28:38Speaker 5: really found girl. I just was in the moment and
- 28:40Speaker 5: I was like, oh my god. Anyway, I mean, but
- 28:44Speaker 5: AnyWho human just.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Like, yes, so good.
- 28:49Speaker 1: But we did all we did almost come to blows
- 28:51Speaker 1: at the end of the movie. Catherine, didn't we First
- 28:53Speaker 1: of all, you were fidgeting in the seat. It's hard
- 28:56Speaker 1: to find a seat that's comfortable if you're freaking.
- 28:58Speaker 4: The olds because it's the old school theater. Is there
- 29:01Speaker 4: the flip up seats? And so yeah, because I'm I
- 29:04Speaker 4: don't know if it's because I'm longer, but you put
- 29:05Speaker 4: your bum in the back and it kept it was
- 29:07Speaker 4: flipping on me.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Is you've probably got the front part of your leg
- 29:12Speaker 1: up above the seat, haven't you seen?
- 29:14Speaker 4: It's way to wait there. I was about to get
- 29:16Speaker 4: snapped up by the scene the movie.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Another design fault anyway, but yeah, we got to the
- 29:21Speaker 1: end of the movie and I thought this movie seems
- 29:23Speaker 1: like a classic to have some post credit scenes in it,
- 29:27Speaker 1: and Catherine wouldn't stay with me.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Well, truth be told, I did. But when it got
- 29:33Speaker 4: to the third song of credits.
- 29:35Speaker 1: It was it was filmed in Milan and filmed in
- 29:38Speaker 1: New York, and you know, there was a whole lot
- 29:41Speaker 1: of yeah yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 4: At that point, I tapped out, if it's going to happen,
- 29:44Speaker 4: they're not making people wait this long, are they so?
- 29:47Speaker 1: And I asked that the young woman who came into
- 29:49Speaker 1: the usher came in to clean the cinema, and I said, oh,
- 29:52Speaker 1: have you seen this? But it had only come out
- 29:53Speaker 1: the night before, so she didn't know. So I still
- 29:55Speaker 1: don't know whether there's any post scene credits. Do you
- 29:58Speaker 1: know there are sometimes post scene credits on certain podcasts
- 30:01Speaker 1: that talk about netball and talk about so much more.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Not everyone has.
- 30:05Speaker 3: To sometimes and sometimes we forget to do it.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Sometimes we forget to do it. But I have had
- 30:11Speaker 1: a couple of dribblers talk to me and make a
- 30:14Speaker 1: point of letting me know that they have stayed through
- 30:17Speaker 1: till the bitter end to find that little bit of
- 30:19Speaker 1: gold that sometimes we bury at the end of the
- 30:22Speaker 1: advertising rainbow. But speaking of talking about netball and talking
- 30:27Speaker 1: about so much more, this has been a whole lot
- 30:29Speaker 1: of so much more and not a lot of talk
- 30:31Speaker 1: about netble. So I think we need to take a
- 30:33Speaker 1: little break and then come back and especially talk about
- 30:37Speaker 1: how more than a year ago in this podcast, I
- 30:40Speaker 1: said to Catherine, I think I feel about Grace White
- 30:44Speaker 1: the way you feel about Georgie Horges, And yeah, well
- 30:48Speaker 1: who's proven to be right there. Anyway, Let's take quick break. Okay,
- 31:04Speaker 1: round eight eight over half way that's really sad hell
- 31:12Speaker 1: over halfway through, But what an amazing round of netball.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Like two to one goal games sorry, two two goal
- 31:20Speaker 4: games three two goals three two gold games. Okay, so
- 31:33Speaker 4: the one blowout game was my game that I had
- 31:35Speaker 4: in Adelaide. But what was the coolest thing, So where
- 31:37Speaker 4: our Commons bench was all of the special seats next
- 31:40Speaker 4: to that were dribblers, Dribblers this whole thing. Anyway, so
- 31:45Speaker 4: they they stopped me and were having a chat and
- 31:48Speaker 4: asking me who I tipped between the mAbs and the Firebirds. Sorry,
- 31:52Speaker 4: the mAbs and the Swifts because that was what I
- 31:54Speaker 4: put on our Facebook page. Anyway, we're having a chat,
- 31:57Speaker 4: they're like, oh, should we change our tips? Blah blah blah. Anyway,
- 32:00Speaker 4: then we go to comms to do all our checks
- 32:02Speaker 4: and we've got the monitor up so we can watch
- 32:04Speaker 4: the game in front of the game that's something before us,
- 32:07Speaker 4: which was that game, and it goes down to the
- 32:09Speaker 4: two goals. So we were watching the game, we're relaying
- 32:12Speaker 4: it down to the Dribblers guys, and we kept going
- 32:16Speaker 4: backwards and forwards, and it was so good to be
- 32:18Speaker 4: in that moment with them because they were all in
- 32:20Speaker 4: the tepe and everybody.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Was so good to They not have the app though,
- 32:24Speaker 1: there's a great app.
- 32:25Speaker 4: No they were keeping an eye on the app as well,
- 32:27Speaker 4: but it was it was fun.
- 32:28Speaker 1: That's called Netball Icon. It's really good app everyone if
- 32:34Speaker 1: you don't have it. Yeah, yeah, that was exciting.
- 32:36Speaker 4: So that was cool. So that was the first one.
- 32:38Speaker 4: We had the blowout and then although I don't.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Think that blowout score necessarily reflected what an interesting and
- 32:44Speaker 1: competitive game it was for most of the game, I
- 32:48Speaker 1: still thought it was a really good a good game.
- 32:51Speaker 4: It was. It was until it was really the last quarter.
- 32:54Speaker 4: You're right, but they did build a cross. They didn't
- 32:57Speaker 4: lose a quarter. Yeah, they were very very strong the
- 33:00Speaker 4: Tea birds and yes, and then two more two goal
- 33:03Speaker 4: games afterwards, amazing and in crucial moments. Yeah, right at
- 33:08Speaker 4: the end, thing shifted.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that should.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Have been a Giants win. Should have been a Swift.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Swin oh man, poor old Giants. Hey, like it was.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I've gotten a really bad mood on Saturday night after
- 33:21Speaker 1: watching the Swifts because my husband's paramatter Eels supporter, I'm
- 33:24Speaker 1: a Brisbane Broncos supporter, were both Warritar support. It was
- 33:27Speaker 1: just a shit weekend for sport. My daughter lost netball
- 33:30Speaker 1: on Saturday morning. I did have a coffee though, but
- 33:33Speaker 1: so much joy in watching the game, and I like
- 33:36Speaker 1: it better when it's not my actual team, so to
- 33:38Speaker 1: be able to watch, I'm so proud of the Giants.
- 33:42Speaker 1: So man, what what.
- 33:44Speaker 4: What a game?
- 33:45Speaker 1: And not just you know, some amazing super shot performances
- 33:49Speaker 1: there from Matisse Leather Barrow and Sophie dwy but not
- 33:52Speaker 1: just them, like you know, Aeron O'Dwyer O'Dwyer up at
- 33:55Speaker 1: the other, O'Brien Becky, pat Erin O'Brien up the other,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and her mother Janeta said, I'm sorry, Jeanette did some
- 34:02Speaker 1: great stuff and I mean some fabulous stuff in goal
- 34:06Speaker 1: defense and goalkeeping across the games. What about Jesse Grenvild,
- 34:11Speaker 1: My god.
- 34:12Speaker 4: So interesting. At the start of the year somebody said
- 34:15Speaker 4: to me, will Jesse Greenwald play for the Diamonds And
- 34:18Speaker 4: I said, not this year, absolutely no chance. Right. That
- 34:21Speaker 4: was when she was sitting on the bench getting not
- 34:23Speaker 4: many minutes. Hello opportunity, and she has been their best
- 34:28Speaker 4: defensive player every game, I think quite comfortably. If she's
- 34:33Speaker 4: not in this Diamond squad by the thirty first of May,
- 34:37Speaker 4: when Stacey Moreen Govic.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Announces it your hat you'll walk naked down the pitt
- 34:42Speaker 1: Street mall.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Not necessarily, but I will do something. She should be
- 34:49Speaker 4: one of the first defenders picked, particularly if you look
- 34:51Speaker 4: at Sarah Clow. No, turn has not been in the
- 34:54Speaker 4: squad for a little while, but there's other defenders that
- 34:56Speaker 4: have been in that squad for a while that I'm
- 34:58Speaker 4: not having great. Is it time for a little shift
- 35:02Speaker 4: there and put She's got to be in the squad. Yeah,
- 35:04Speaker 4: not necessarily going to make the team maybe, but she
- 35:07Speaker 4: has to be.
- 35:07Speaker 1: In the squad in pivot. Yesterday, Maddie Brown did her
- 35:10Speaker 1: team of the comps so far, a lot of internationals,
- 35:14Speaker 1: not a lot of Australian players. When you when you
- 35:17Speaker 1: start to look at the likes of Latania Wilson, Shamira Stirling, Humphrey,
- 35:21Speaker 1: who was el Ma el Maray Vanderberg, Yes, Kira Austin was.
- 35:27Speaker 4: There, Georgie was there.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Georgie was there, Kate Maloney was there and no friend
- 35:32Speaker 1: Williams Yes, yeah, that was Yeah. I really think that
- 35:38Speaker 1: jesse Grenville is putting a hand up there.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Can we just go back to the giants?
- 35:42Speaker 5: I mean, jesse Grenville has been amazing and I do
- 35:44Speaker 5: love seeing a young diffriend to come through and just
- 35:46Speaker 5: stand up in moments, Like I reckon, there's lots lots
- 35:49Speaker 5: of these close games you can see players who you go, okay,
- 35:54Speaker 5: they'll keep standing up in the future.
- 35:55Speaker 3: And even though the Giants didn't win that game.
- 35:57Speaker 5: I thought Amy Sliger did everything she could, Like I
- 36:00Speaker 5: was watching her yesterday going oh my god, that last
- 36:03Speaker 5: intercept that she.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Sort of run down.
- 36:05Speaker 5: But I was looking at the Giants and I feel like,
- 36:08Speaker 5: if they can keep that team together, they're going to
- 36:11Speaker 5: be a very good team in just a few years.
- 36:13Speaker 5: If you go back to the Swifts before they won
- 36:15Speaker 5: their first premiership under Briany, they had a season with
- 36:18Speaker 5: young players where they got pumped and they started to
- 36:22Speaker 5: win a few games in that season where they didn't
- 36:25Speaker 5: make the finals, and then that set them up for
- 36:27Speaker 5: the next year. And I reckon, if the Giants get
- 36:30Speaker 5: one or two scalps this year, they're young, right, so
- 36:34Speaker 5: they're learning and it's hard because you don't want a
- 36:37Speaker 5: young team to get used to getting beaten, so they'll
- 36:41Speaker 5: have to find something. And I was watching Nerati Stewart
- 36:44Speaker 5: yesterday at the end of the game. She was devo
- 36:47Speaker 5: that they did a win, but she was also I reckon.
- 36:49Speaker 5: She was really pleased with the effort that she got
- 36:51Speaker 5: from her team, and I Reckon, I was just watching
- 36:55Speaker 5: that Giants team, going, oh, there's something a bit special there.
- 36:58Speaker 5: And I feel like in the next year or two,
- 37:00Speaker 5: we'll be saying, remember that season when they didn't win
- 37:02Speaker 5: a game, but it set them up.
- 37:03Speaker 3: And that's how I feel, And that's.
- 37:05Speaker 5: How we felt about like the Swifts years ago, and
- 37:07Speaker 5: then we felt that way about the Thunderbirds before.
- 37:09Speaker 3: They've gone into.
- 37:10Speaker 5: This current mode of being you know, there or thereabouts
- 37:12Speaker 5: every year, and I feel like the Giants are probably
- 37:15Speaker 5: the next most likely team to go to that space.
- 37:17Speaker 1: And it was tough. You know, they lost a lot
- 37:19Speaker 1: of you know, wisdom last year with Joe retiring and
- 37:24Speaker 1: you know, Jane Watson came on to be one of
- 37:26Speaker 1: the older heads on the court and then was injured
- 37:28Speaker 1: quite quite early. But I think they've done really well too.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And it was interesting going into the fourth quarter when
- 37:36Speaker 1: they go into the huddle, maybe it was sometime a
- 37:39Speaker 1: in a tactical timeout when they put their hands in
- 37:42Speaker 1: and the word that they all said was composure, And
- 37:45Speaker 1: so I thought that was a really interesting thing that
- 37:48Speaker 1: that's what they are focusing on.
- 37:51Speaker 4: And that's an experience though, isn't that Because you can
- 37:53Speaker 4: say composure, but you walk out onto the court in
- 37:56Speaker 4: the pressure, in the moment. That's an this thing. And
- 38:01Speaker 4: they will learn from those losses. I mean, did anyone
- 38:03Speaker 4: think they were going to win the game in the
- 38:05Speaker 4: fourth quarter against the Vixen's. I didn't. I thought the
- 38:08Speaker 4: same thing when they played the Thunderbirds. But one day
- 38:11Speaker 4: they will know they get themselves in that position enough,
- 38:14Speaker 4: they will learn from those close games, what they did
- 38:17Speaker 4: last time, what they needed to do going forward. So
- 38:20Speaker 4: I one hundred percent agree with you, Liz. They're that
- 38:22Speaker 4: team that's brewing some bit like the Firebirds's. There's some
- 38:25Speaker 4: big moments brewing just under the surface.
- 38:28Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 38:29Speaker 1: They go into they walk into Mordoor in Adelaide Entertainment
- 38:35Speaker 1: Center and nearly take it from the Thunderbirds. They go
- 38:38Speaker 1: down to John Caine Arena and nearly take it from
- 38:41Speaker 1: the Vixens at home like it's it's And then they
- 38:46Speaker 1: get walloped against the Swifts last week.
- 38:48Speaker 4: There's probably no expectation on them in those games, I
- 38:50Speaker 4: would so.
- 38:51Speaker 1: That's a really interesting thing for them to be noticing
- 38:54Speaker 1: about themselves with freedom. It was so exciting. I loved it,
- 38:58Speaker 1: loved it so much. The Lightning Fever game was a
- 39:02Speaker 1: really interesting one. So what that was four goals in
- 39:05Speaker 1: the end? I thought that was Lightning's.
- 39:07Speaker 4: I wasn't four in the end. I thought, OK, that's wrong.
- 39:12Speaker 1: But yeah that was Yeah, that was another You didn't
- 39:17Speaker 1: know which way that one was going to go at
- 39:19Speaker 1: any stage either. And the swifts maps as well. It
- 39:22Speaker 1: was very exciting.
- 39:23Speaker 4: All my tips are.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Right, did you? That's good? So I did in the
- 39:28Speaker 1: video that I put up, and then I messed it
- 39:31Speaker 1: up and so I only got three. I put the
- 39:33Speaker 1: swifts instead of the maps, even though I actually wanted
- 39:37Speaker 1: in my head I had tipped the maps. But such
- 39:40Speaker 1: an idiot, like a basic admin stuff.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I've done that.
- 39:44Speaker 1: He So I have a question for you both question
- 39:47Speaker 1: without notice. And this is something that came from Pivot yesterday,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and they're saying that Kate Heffernan is the pick of
- 39:53Speaker 1: the New Zealand players to come over here this year.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I'm wondering, is that because Kate Heffernan is sitting in
- 40:00Speaker 1: the tea birds and therefore, from the very first minute
- 40:04Speaker 1: of supernetwul she has been able to showcase her best
- 40:07Speaker 1: and she's had the best all around her. And yes,
- 40:09Speaker 1: you know, is are we seeing the other key we
- 40:13Speaker 1: players now as the teams are starting to stabilize a
- 40:15Speaker 1: little bit, and I'm particularly thinking about the Firebirds and
- 40:18Speaker 1: they and their improvement, like I don't you know, Initially
- 40:22Speaker 1: I thought, oh, Kate Heffernon is far and away the
- 40:24Speaker 1: best of these players, but Karen Berger's had a blinder
- 40:27Speaker 1: of a season too, And it's just, you know, I
- 40:31Speaker 1: posit that Kate Heffernan looks as good as she is,
- 40:34Speaker 1: one because she's good, but two because she is in
- 40:36Speaker 1: a team that is outstanding.
- 40:37Speaker 4: Without doubt. You can't have Georgie Hawges in front of
- 40:40Speaker 4: you on the line el Maray Vanderberg there Shimira Stirling
- 40:44Speaker 4: Wilson behind you, and I could play well, yeah, well
- 40:48Speaker 4: that's well, that was a good bellyjackle.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Just a lot of you playing Santa. There was a
- 40:56Speaker 3: limit to my imagination.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Listen, I could get the ball off for the first
- 40:58Speaker 4: and the past. That's probably the.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Yeah, no, you actually you would probably throw the first
- 41:02Speaker 5: out of pass, that is correct.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you can on that lineup yes.
- 41:05Speaker 4: It is a golden lineup to be right, smack bang
- 41:08Speaker 4: in the midst of yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yes, it's very lucky. Let me talk about the competition
- 41:13Speaker 1: that really matters, because I know that's what you care about.
- 41:16Speaker 1: So we have four dribblers in equal first position on
- 41:21Speaker 1: our Valor Dribblers Tip and comp at the moment, and
- 41:25Speaker 1: several of them are names that are familiar to us.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Something happened this week that has never happened in the
- 41:32Speaker 1: history of Valor Riblers Tip in comp this year or
- 41:35Speaker 1: last year. But let me tell you first, who's in
- 41:38Speaker 1: first place on thirty six points, which is a whopping
- 41:41Speaker 1: thirteen points ahead of where I am. We have CJ,
- 41:44Speaker 1: we have first borns. We have DEVO two nine two,
- 41:47Speaker 1: and off to the part, they are in equal first position.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Devo two nine two, you might remember from last week,
- 41:54Speaker 1: was the tipper of the round and won the fifty
- 41:57Speaker 1: dollars Vala voucher. Devo to nine two is the tipper
- 42:01Speaker 1: of the round this week. Two weeks in a row,
- 42:05Speaker 1: two weeks in a row, Devo two nine two has
- 42:08Speaker 1: been the tipper of the round. So the earliest most
- 42:11Speaker 1: accurate score, so pick the margin. Got all the games right,
- 42:14Speaker 1: picked them pick the margin correctly and did that first.
- 42:17Speaker 1: So yeah, I know, how would.
- 42:19Speaker 4: It so that Errol was no use to me with
- 42:22Speaker 4: any of the tips about tipping. So maybe I need
- 42:25Speaker 4: to speak to Davo.
- 42:26Speaker 1: I feel a bit bad for Errol. I feel like
- 42:28Speaker 1: you're putting too much pressure on her. It's really not her.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Thirty eight people got six points this week, including Daryl
- 42:36Speaker 1: the stats Man Milton he picked the margin as well,
- 42:39Speaker 1: so two hundred and seventy two people got five. So
- 42:42Speaker 1: got all picked all four games. Two hundred and sixty
- 42:45Speaker 1: three people dropped one. That's what That's what I've got.
- 42:48Speaker 1: But in the Valor Dribblers, Hosts and Heroes ladder, we
- 42:52Speaker 1: have a new outright leader sitting in first place. Two
- 42:57Speaker 1: points ahead of the of the pack is Daryl the
- 43:01Speaker 1: stats Man, who is on thirty one points. Then on
- 43:05Speaker 1: equal twenty nine points. The Fascinators Cox Rocks Yes and
- 43:11Speaker 1: your netball besting. So you and Alexa both got five
- 43:15Speaker 1: points this week. Fascinator got three. I'm thinking Fascinator tipped
- 43:20Speaker 1: with her heart and tip the swifts, although to be fair,
- 43:23Speaker 1: that's not a tip with the heart. That one really was.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It could have bene either way, and we saw that
- 43:27Speaker 1: it could have right to the last second. Gord's on
- 43:30Speaker 1: twenty seven, Killy DeVry is on twenty four, I'm on
- 43:32Speaker 1: twenty three, and Liz, who does not tip and just
- 43:35Speaker 1: gets the home teams, is sitting on sixteen, which I
- 43:37Speaker 1: think is really interesting that after eight rounds of games,
- 43:41Speaker 1: that that's what the home home team scores. Guests advantage
- 43:45Speaker 1: is no home court advantage.
- 43:47Speaker 3: No mind you, I've got three right this week. Yes,
- 43:50Speaker 3: three right this week.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, got system got three right for you this week.
- 43:54Speaker 1: So you got to score the sex.
- 43:56Speaker 3: True.
- 43:56Speaker 1: But something exciting that is happening, and it is happening
- 43:59Speaker 1: on the day that we release this episode is an
- 44:03Speaker 1: announcement from the Vixens. Something pretty bloody extraordinary has happened
- 44:08Speaker 1: down there off court, and this is about the Dribblers
- 44:12Speaker 1: and some other people are doing. Melbourne Vixen set new
- 44:15Speaker 1: benchmark with a record ten thousand members.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Holy mold, that's the state of that's every week.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so good luck buying a ticket to a Vixen's match. Yeah,
- 44:27Speaker 1: that's just incredible. And so that accounts for more than
- 44:30Speaker 1: twenty five percent of the league's total membership. Base. So
- 44:35Speaker 1: for all of us who are members of a club,
- 44:37Speaker 1: some of us are members of several clubs, one in
- 44:41Speaker 1: four of those memberships is for the Vixens.
- 44:44Speaker 5: Done.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 44:46Speaker 1: And this isn't just something It's not just attributable to
- 44:50Speaker 1: their success on court. This is obviously something that's been
- 44:52Speaker 1: happening off court for years through a kind of sustained
- 44:56Speaker 1: engagement program. And also the Vixens attribute a lot of
- 45:01Speaker 1: this success to the fact that they have a Victoria
- 45:04Speaker 1: First recruitment policy and that the bulk of their super
- 45:08Speaker 1: netballers have come through the Victorian program, but also that
- 45:12Speaker 1: they have really close relationships to Victorian country associations baler At, Bendigo, Geelong, Gippsland,
- 45:20Speaker 1: and so they're really trying to take their presence outside
- 45:23Speaker 1: of Melbourne. So congratulations Vixen's and congrat and good job
- 45:27Speaker 1: are dribblers and future dribblers who are supporting the game
- 45:34Speaker 1: that we love by taking up a membership. It's really
- 45:37Speaker 1: important that we do.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Can't wait to see the first netball game at the MCG. Well,
- 45:44Speaker 4: they're outgrowing their home court by the sound of that
- 45:46Speaker 4: they are.
- 45:47Speaker 1: And if Disney on us would go away. That would
- 45:49Speaker 1: be helpful. But I'm going to preemptively bitch and moan
- 45:53Speaker 1: about my ability to see the game from my seat
- 45:55Speaker 1: at the MCG. How far away would that be?
- 45:59Speaker 4: They did a ball game in America.
- 46:02Speaker 3: You don't go there to watch in a game like that.
- 46:03Speaker 3: You go there every part of the.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Cope, you find there's big screens and stop your wy Okay,
- 46:12Speaker 5: you know that I won't. I will make a commitment,
- 46:14Speaker 5: I stop my winging, but I will just merely pivot
- 46:17Speaker 5: and winge about something else.
- 46:19Speaker 1: But yet, so another another critical round coming up. We
- 46:22Speaker 1: are seeing that battle for the fourth position get really hot.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So MAVs have got it At the moment, Lightning is
- 46:29Speaker 1: still well and truly in this who knows what we're
- 46:31Speaker 1: going to see Firebirds and Swifts do. It's not it's
- 46:34Speaker 1: mathematically still possible for the Firebirds or the Swift to
- 46:37Speaker 1: take that fourth position. I think it's very difficult, but
- 46:40Speaker 1: it is mathematically still possible. But we saw on the
- 46:43Speaker 1: weekend we saw Dan Ryan coach his one hundred Super
- 46:46Speaker 1: Netball game. Congratulations, and Amy Sliger obviously had her fiftieth game,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and what a blinder she has, just a baby She's
- 46:55Speaker 1: just a baby, isn't she.
- 46:57Speaker 4: Wow?
- 46:58Speaker 1: All right, we will take a quick break and then
- 47:00Speaker 1: I've got a very interesting ask the Goat. Okay, so
- 47:16Speaker 1: ask the goat. This is also the part of the
- 47:20Speaker 1: show where if any host would like to moan about something,
- 47:24Speaker 1: we will run the Things that make You go Hm segment.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I haven't thought of anything, but at any given time,
- 47:29Speaker 1: I'm only thirty seconds away from finding something to winge about.
- 47:33Speaker 1: But i haven't asked the goat question that has come
- 47:35Speaker 1: in this week, and I'm going to ask the goat
- 47:39Speaker 1: if she would mind if the goaler were to take
- 47:43Speaker 1: the lead in responding to this one. I believe the
- 47:46Speaker 1: goat will have some wisdom, but I'd like to hear
- 47:49Speaker 1: from you too, Legs. All right, let's go. So this
- 47:53Speaker 1: one is from from Callan, who I believe is in
- 47:56Speaker 1: Western Australia but a loyal member. And I sent this
- 48:00Speaker 1: question through yesterday and I saw it and then I've
- 48:03Speaker 1: spent a solid hour this morning trying to find it,
- 48:05Speaker 1: you know, in Instagram messages and Facebook messages. It was email.
- 48:11Speaker 1: He sent it through the proper channel, which is to
- 48:13Speaker 1: send it to at no dribble dot com dot Au.
- 48:16Speaker 1: But anyway, this one's very topical. So hello ladies, this
- 48:20Speaker 1: is a question for your ask the goat. This weekend
- 48:23Speaker 1: we saw three games which came right down to the wire.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Each of them was decided in the final pressure cooker minutes,
- 48:29Speaker 1: where split second decisions resulted in wayward passes, misshots, intercepted balls,
- 48:33Speaker 1: or similar errors capitalized on by their opposition, which cemented
- 48:37Speaker 1: the final result. For the players responsible for those eras,
- 48:41Speaker 1: we could see the anguish. Now, I just want to
- 48:43Speaker 1: sidebar here a bit and say, if a team is
- 48:47Speaker 1: that close to winning or losing a game at that
- 48:51Speaker 1: point in the game, in that last sixty seconds, that's
- 48:54Speaker 1: not one player's responsibility. That is a team responsibility. So
- 48:57Speaker 1: I understand the players take responsibility for it very heavily themselves,
- 49:01Speaker 1: but that's a whole of team thing anyway. So for
- 49:04Speaker 1: the players responsible for those eras, we could see their anguish.
- 49:07Speaker 1: As a fan, I was very emotionally invested and ranted
- 49:09Speaker 1: and raved at my television. Good callen. That's much better
- 49:12Speaker 1: than doing it on social media. Even though I can't
- 49:14Speaker 1: catch a ball to save myself, I would not be
- 49:16Speaker 1: a good person to have around in the aftermath and
- 49:19Speaker 1: here's this question, which I think is a terrific question.
- 49:21Speaker 1: My question is how dance or should a coach react
- 49:24Speaker 1: postmatch behind closed doors? Do they soothe? Do they need
- 49:27Speaker 1: to speak hard truths? How did your coaches speak to
- 49:30Speaker 1: you after difficult losses? What helped and what didn't? And
- 49:34Speaker 1: did the expectations and coaching style change between Comwell's Bank
- 49:38Speaker 1: Trophy games versus Diamonds and I assume their SSN games, etc.
- 49:43Speaker 1: And most importantly, what did those losses teach you about winning?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Callen then says love the pod, looking forward to many
- 49:50Speaker 1: more episodes. I think that's a great question, Callen, and
- 49:53Speaker 1: I guess before I send this over, Catherine to you
- 49:57Speaker 1: first as a shooter, because I think maybe this is
- 49:59Speaker 1: a moment shoot her off and bears the heaviest weight
- 50:02Speaker 1: with I would like to reflect on what does a
- 50:05Speaker 1: coach say in the ten minutes after something like that
- 50:08Speaker 1: compared with what the coach says seventy two hours after that,
- 50:12Speaker 1: And what does the coach say to the individual versus
- 50:14Speaker 1: the team.
- 50:15Speaker 4: I think it is all so relative because if you
- 50:19Speaker 4: had played a bad game as a team and it
- 50:23Speaker 4: was a game you should have won, then there is
- 50:27Speaker 4: all the rights in the world for the coach to
- 50:28Speaker 4: be upset and to call you on that. If you
- 50:32Speaker 4: had played a brilliant game aka the Giants yesterday and
- 50:36Speaker 4: you push one of the top teams and you nearly
- 50:39Speaker 4: get the job done, every right to be as proud
- 50:41Speaker 4: as Newda Stuart was after the game and applaud them.
- 50:44Speaker 4: But I reckon, And it also depends on the age
- 50:47Speaker 4: of players you're coaching. For instance, an Australian team or
- 50:51Speaker 4: an elite team, they know if they've had a bad
- 50:54Speaker 4: game and if they should have been better. I don't
- 50:56Speaker 4: think the coach necessarily needs to go in straight away
- 51:00Speaker 4: and make them feel worse. They would appreciate they already know, right.
- 51:03Speaker 4: But if it's a younger team, again you don't want
- 51:07Speaker 4: I don't think you want them freaked out or nervous.
- 51:10Speaker 4: But maybe while it's fresh of mind, you talk constructively
- 51:13Speaker 4: about things that we could learn from that moment and
- 51:16Speaker 4: think about going forward for next time.
- 51:18Speaker 1: So when you say a younger team, you're not talking
- 51:20Speaker 1: about sort of the Giants relative to a team with
- 51:23Speaker 1: that's been together. You're talking about junior edge.
- 51:26Speaker 4: I would say more of Virginia side. But I still
- 51:28Speaker 4: think it's also important to talk about things while they're
- 51:31Speaker 4: fresh in your mind, like that last moment, what was happening,
- 51:34Speaker 4: or did we have other options or something, just whilst
- 51:36Speaker 4: it's still there. But you don't necessarily have to do
- 51:38Speaker 4: it in a way that's going to upset your players
- 51:41Speaker 4: when they already know that there was probably better ways
- 51:44Speaker 4: to handle stuff. That would be my take on it, Liz.
- 51:48Speaker 5: Yeah, And I actually think like, sometimes you get a spray,
- 51:53Speaker 5: like I remember getting sprays, particularly from a normal plumber
- 51:56Speaker 5: or someone like that, when we'd won, right because our
- 51:58Speaker 5: execution have been so and we hadn't had our mind
- 52:01Speaker 5: in the game, and even though we'd got the win,
- 52:04Speaker 5: she'd be upset because we hadn't played the game plan
- 52:07Speaker 5: and we'd fallen back into the habits she was trying
- 52:08Speaker 5: to get us out of. Yet, sometimes you'd lose and
- 52:11Speaker 5: you wouldn't get a spray because you'd executed the game
- 52:13Speaker 5: plan and potentially you'd played against a better team. Right,
- 52:17Speaker 5: So it's horses for courses. It depends on what you're
- 52:21Speaker 5: trying to achieve in the game. It depends on whether
- 52:23Speaker 5: you've executed the game plan and it hasn't been enough
- 52:25Speaker 5: as opposed to not executing the game plan whether you
- 52:28Speaker 5: want to lose, And it depends on the athlete, right,
- 52:30Speaker 5: and a good coach would understand their athletes. There are
- 52:32Speaker 5: athletes who would react better to a kick in the pats.
- 52:35Speaker 3: I was definitely one of them.
- 52:37Speaker 5: If you gave me a spray, I would go away
- 52:38Speaker 5: and ruminate on it and work myself up to such
- 52:41Speaker 5: a point that I would inevitably have a good game
- 52:43Speaker 5: the following week. And there are other athletes if you
- 52:45Speaker 5: gave them a spray, they would get into a hole
- 52:48Speaker 5: and it would struggle to dig themselves out of it.
- 52:51Speaker 5: So coaches need to know their players and who reacts
- 52:54Speaker 5: best to what, and it depends. There's so much it's
- 52:57Speaker 5: dependent on. And like I saw in near yesterday with
- 53:00Speaker 5: the Giants smiling because I think she was and rightly wrapped.
- 53:03Speaker 5: They'd gone so close, but then she we saw her
- 53:06Speaker 5: pull the players together and.
- 53:08Speaker 3: There was I don't know what she said.
- 53:09Speaker 5: I was trying to lip read, but I suspect that
- 53:13Speaker 5: she was saying something on the lines of just think about,
- 53:16Speaker 5: just think about the decisions perhaps that we made in
- 53:19Speaker 5: those moments, and then how we might make them differently
- 53:22Speaker 5: next time, but be proud of yourselves.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Right.
- 53:25Speaker 5: And yet if the Vixens went down, die Honey would
- 53:28Speaker 5: have been well within our rights to team them a
- 53:30Speaker 5: new one. So, because there are different expectations of different teams,
- 53:34Speaker 5: so it really is about knowing individual players, knowing your team.
- 53:38Speaker 5: And sometimes for an older team, it's actually not the
- 53:40Speaker 5: coach she does that, it's the leadership. Yeah right, So
- 53:43Speaker 5: sometimes it's the captain who steps in and goes we
- 53:46Speaker 5: actually need to take responsibility. And that was certainly often
- 53:49Speaker 5: the dynamic between Julie Fitzgerald and myself. So you know
- 53:54Speaker 5: I would sometimes yeah right, but I would take if
- 53:58Speaker 5: I like, if I held us Annibal, then that gave
- 54:01Speaker 5: Duli some time and space to figure out, okay, what
- 54:03Speaker 5: we did next the coming week. So it depends on
- 54:07Speaker 5: you've seen your leadership, It depends on you know, the
- 54:10Speaker 5: age and the experience of your team.
- 54:12Speaker 3: But I just.
- 54:12Speaker 5: Feel like for young teams, and I'm constantly saying that
- 54:15Speaker 5: with the teams that I coach at grassroots, like you
- 54:19Speaker 5: can get really caught up in the result, but you
- 54:22Speaker 5: also just need to think about how you winning games.
- 54:24Speaker 5: If you're winning them easily, are you still executing your
- 54:26Speaker 5: game plan and you might not be happy if you
- 54:29Speaker 5: win by twenty and you've been lazy about it, Well,
- 54:31Speaker 5: that's you're not happy anyway.
- 54:33Speaker 4: I also think there's a really important window for feedback
- 54:36Speaker 4: because you can't dwell, you've got I think you've got
- 54:39Speaker 4: to address it. It doesn't have to be straight after
- 54:42Speaker 4: the game, but maybe in the change room, and you
- 54:44Speaker 4: get it before you leave the venue at the very
- 54:47Speaker 4: latest the next morning when you do your review. But
- 54:49Speaker 4: you've got to move on because then you've got to
- 54:51Speaker 4: think about the positive stuff. You've got to get practice
- 54:54Speaker 4: whatever in training. It's not something you're bringing up two
- 54:57Speaker 4: or three days later.
- 54:58Speaker 1: It's not like a marriage where you bring argument constantly.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Came happened twenty years ago, remember that team I premer
- 55:05Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, And I guess that's that is a
- 55:09Speaker 1: really key message, isn't it That If you've come down
- 55:11Speaker 1: to a game that you could have won but it
- 55:14Speaker 1: didn't happen in the last minute, it's like, well, there's
- 55:17Speaker 1: a lot to celebrate there. We were there and we
- 55:19Speaker 1: were in it, and there's some stuff to learn from that.
- 55:22Speaker 1: But let's not you know, you can't just look at
- 55:24Speaker 1: that in isolation of the fact that you had fifty
- 55:27Speaker 1: nine minutes that got you got you that close.
- 55:29Speaker 4: And I know it's hard because athletes are invested and
- 55:32Speaker 4: fans are invested, but certainly in moments at the end
- 55:35Speaker 4: of a game where a mistake is made, similar to
- 55:37Speaker 4: Grace yesterday, Grace workI throwing the ball away going for
- 55:40Speaker 4: a two when they didn't really need one, that is
- 55:43Speaker 4: a pressure cooker moment. But it's, as you said, it's
- 55:46Speaker 4: not the only moment that they lost the ball during
- 55:48Speaker 4: the game. So getting around her straight away is also
- 55:51Speaker 4: very important so she doesn't drop a bundle and start
- 55:54Speaker 4: to feel negative because I'm sure there was seven eight
- 55:56Speaker 4: other people that made a mistake during that game.
- 55:59Speaker 1: And she's three. You know, these are still young people.
- 56:03Speaker 1: You know, they're like children who can go to the pub.
- 56:05Speaker 1: You know, they're not yet. So it's it's very easy
- 56:09Speaker 1: to sit on the sideline and shout at the TV,
- 56:12Speaker 1: but very difficult there. And would you shout at a
- 56:15Speaker 1: twenty three year old who made a mistake in front
- 56:17Speaker 1: of you? And if you wouldn't, maybe you need to
- 56:19Speaker 1: look at yourself. Thank you, Thank you, Callen. What an
- 56:24Speaker 1: excellent question.
- 56:25Speaker 3: That's a great question.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Yeah, really good question, and the goat and the goala
- 56:32Speaker 1: have had a crack at that one. I think that
- 56:33Speaker 1: is fantastic and thank you both. That's the beauty of
- 56:35Speaker 1: having a shooter and a defender here, is that the
- 56:39Speaker 1: yin and the yang right. Fantastic, very good.
- 56:43Speaker 5: It was tempting to say that in those moments when
- 56:46Speaker 5: when you're a.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Of course you do.
- 56:52Speaker 3: But I did say that.
- 56:53Speaker 1: I did.
- 56:54Speaker 4: No, But if you don't get an intercept, it's not
- 56:56Speaker 4: a big deal.
- 56:57Speaker 3: No, I know me. The missing they do not exactly
- 57:03Speaker 3: just kicked in.
- 57:07Speaker 1: We're going to take this outside into the car park
- 57:09Speaker 1: and we're going to sort it out once and for all.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Liza's obviously on the North coast, so we can't do
- 57:14Speaker 1: that sorting it out. But what a great chat we've
- 57:18Speaker 1: had today. I did. I did say I would give
- 57:20Speaker 1: you the opportunity to moan about anything quickly if you
- 57:23Speaker 1: have the things that make you go hmmm.
- 57:25Speaker 4: No, but I've got an durable recommend love it, let's
- 57:28Speaker 4: hear it. I haven't seen ted Lasso yet, but i'd
- 57:30Speaker 4: imagine it's kind of similar. It's just a comedy sport
- 57:33Speaker 4: kind of show. It's called running point is.
- 57:36Speaker 1: That Kate Hudson.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Okay, so funny? Is it so great? It's a basket Netflix. Yeah,
- 57:42Speaker 4: and they've just started the second season.
- 57:44Speaker 1: And the setup is she owns a basketball team or
- 57:49Speaker 1: her family as.
- 57:50Speaker 4: Does, and she was the last one would be considered
- 57:53Speaker 4: to take it over, and her older brother, who goes
- 57:56Speaker 4: into rehab, gives her the job. And the aftermath it's great,
- 58:00Speaker 4: it's very funny, very good. What's it called running points?
- 58:03Speaker 1: Running point? Thank you? All right? My not durable recommends
- 58:07Speaker 1: is get your tickets for our Sydney event. They are
- 58:09Speaker 1: we are a month away from that, which is very exciting,
- 58:12Speaker 1: and the event is coming together very nicely. Ticket sales
- 58:15Speaker 1: have started to move in the last week, so that's good.
- 58:17Speaker 1: If they if they move faster, I can stop harassing
- 58:20Speaker 1: you people about this, but I would like to congratulate
- 58:25Speaker 1: Erna Eastwood Ride Netball Association. This Saturday morning, I'm going
- 58:28Speaker 1: along to the first center pass of their comp at
- 58:32Speaker 1: the new ban Along Sports Center. Now my daughter's now
- 58:36Speaker 1: with the Inn West Netball Association and crazy went there
- 58:39Speaker 1: on the weekend and saw coaches there who were coaching
- 58:41Speaker 1: my stepdaughters fifteen years ago. So thank you for your servers.
- 58:45Speaker 1: But Erna was playing at meadow Banks Sports Networ Courts
- 58:49Speaker 1: for years, which was built on an old landfill, and
- 58:52Speaker 1: so there's subsidences everywhere. There were like if it rained,
- 58:55Speaker 1: there were pools deep enough that you could lose an
- 58:58Speaker 1: under seven's player quite easily in their rolled ankles. Half
- 59:02Speaker 1: the courts couldn't be used because they were so dangerous.
- 59:04Speaker 1: So they've waited a while. Their season is late in starting,
- 59:07Speaker 1: but this brand new purpose built sports center is opening
- 59:11Speaker 1: this week and that's very exciting, exciting a lot of
- 59:15Speaker 1: good stuff happening for our sport. And congrats again to
- 59:18Speaker 1: the Vixens ten thousand members. If you are not a
- 59:21Speaker 1: Vixen's fan and you are not yet a member of
- 59:24Speaker 1: a club.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Don't go there.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Don't go there to go somewhere. And if you're a
- 59:28Speaker 1: Melbourn fan and you're not a member of a club,
- 59:31Speaker 1: join the maps. It would be my advice. Anyway, I
- 59:35Speaker 1: think that we should finish up. Have a great week everyone. Yeah,
- 59:39Speaker 1: I'm Carolyn Swindell.
- 59:40Speaker 4: I'm cack Cox. I'm going to find some eggs and
- 59:42Speaker 4: fertilize them. They just just need some breezy food.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, you are hungry.
- 59:47Speaker 3: You're probably bacon with that too. I'm lizealous and I
- 59:50Speaker 3: didn't have a drink last night, so I feel very superior.
- 59:53Speaker 1: Likewise, angels, have a great week. Driplers, Bye bye, Hi.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: I can't believe that Catherine took the mickey out of
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: you for your dipping your ice cream into your popcorn.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: She's a painlet ask to sit next to at the cinemas.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: She changed her seat three times and then decided that
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: she was sitting too close to me, so I moved
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: a seat over like we were having an argument. Fidgeted
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: the whole way through, and that popcorn was a bag
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: that she bought from the supermarket.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: So you know, you know, when the scene folded up
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: and nearly ate it, were you hoping it was successful.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I did feel a bit smug with my short legs.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Oh my goodness. She's a special She's a special girl.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: Our friend Katthroe, We love her.
