- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to another episode of the Mixed
- 0:03Speaker 1: Company podcast. Of course, on one half of the show,
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm jameson Jormia Luise Louise.
- 0:08Speaker 2: What's going on, man, Jamison, what's up? I am very
- 0:11Speaker 2: happy to be back on the microphone for episode thirty eight.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah today, Yeah, you know, I think we want to
- 0:18Speaker 2: start with something that I did right after our last episode.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I mentioned I was going to Phoenix for the Emmanuel
- 0:25Speaker 2: Navarette versus Ede of the Nuniaz fight. And man, it
- 0:30Speaker 2: was an awesome, awesome night of fighting. I got to
- 0:33Speaker 2: catch four fights. All of them were exciting. They're very active,
- 0:38Speaker 2: no boring shit, no people, you know, kind of dilly
- 0:42Speaker 2: dilling around the ring, any of that stuff. You know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: sometimes we've seen two very skilled, active, aggressive fighters just
- 0:48Speaker 2: avoid each other all night. Doesn't make for the best.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But no, man was it was a lot of fun.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It was in Glendale, Arizona specifically, and I just had
- 0:59Speaker 2: a great time. You know, friend of the show, Jordan Martinez,
- 1:02Speaker 2: who called out now yeah in a way on our show. Uh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: he came to a split draw, but you know he
- 1:09Speaker 2: he left it all in that ring. Huns Chavez was
- 1:13Speaker 2: there ringside. Uh, there's a there's a really cool clip
- 1:17Speaker 2: of Jordan Martinez after the fight. You know, Chavez given
- 1:20Speaker 2: him like a thumbs up or like, you know, a
- 1:22Speaker 2: salute or something, just saying like, man, you look great.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You know you put it out there. And I've never
- 1:27Speaker 2: cared about Adie hern is a person, like either way,
- 1:29Speaker 2: I don't like him or dislike him. I have no
- 1:30Speaker 2: opinion on him. But it was kind of cool to
- 1:32Speaker 2: be like, that's Adie heard right there, He's right there.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Oh my god, he's just a few feet away. That's
- 1:36Speaker 2: Eddie Hurt. So yes, you know, something like that was
- 1:40Speaker 2: it was really nice as the second major pro event
- 1:44Speaker 2: that I've been to, the last one was also Navad
- 1:47Speaker 2: and I just it was awesome. You know, both times
- 1:50Speaker 2: I've seen h Nabad at the fight, it was like
- 1:53Speaker 2: the fun most fun and cool things you could see
- 1:55Speaker 2: in boxing happening happened live. So it was it was great.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So let me ask you now that you are technically
- 2:01Speaker 1: or your boxing media they're also a boxing fan, what's
- 2:06Speaker 1: the difference in experiences of going to an event as
- 2:10Speaker 1: a media member and going as a fan, Like, what's
- 2:14Speaker 1: the differences or or is there any differences.
- 2:17Speaker 2: There is a little bit. It's just the way my
- 2:18Speaker 2: brain works, and I kind of can uh, I get
- 2:23Speaker 2: this show has made me more a bigger fan and
- 2:25Speaker 2: more knowledgeable than boxing than I've ever been because back
- 2:28Speaker 2: in the day, I used to just not care who
- 2:30Speaker 2: was boxing. I just like watching fights, right, Not to
- 2:32Speaker 2: say I didn't know fighters' names, of course, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 2: but really I was like, turn a fight on bell
- 2:38Speaker 2: rings and I'm in, I'm excited. I never cared about
- 2:41Speaker 2: who's this guy gonna fight next? Is there going to
- 2:43Speaker 2: be a remax, blah blah blah, Like none of that mattered.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So now it's really got me thinking away is like
- 2:49Speaker 2: reporting on what I saw. Also, what could happen next.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Jordan Martinez and the guys the other guy's name was,
- 2:55Speaker 2: they're already talking about running it back and I'm excited
- 2:58Speaker 2: to see that. They said we're gonna run it back
- 2:59Speaker 2: into six and I can't wait. And now I'm excited
- 3:03Speaker 2: about talking about that fight as it comes up on
- 3:05Speaker 2: the show. Maybe I can get in touch with Jordan again,
- 3:08Speaker 2: get us an interview, stuff like that. So all of
- 3:11Speaker 2: that is just my brain just works in a whole
- 3:13Speaker 2: different way, and I see boxing in a different light,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and and it just makes me appreciate the sport more
- 3:18Speaker 2: than ever did. I love it more than I ever did.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So that's that's kind of the difference now between just
- 3:25Speaker 2: a fan and kind of being on the inside.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, because it's interesting because once you have a
- 3:31Speaker 1: perspective that's different than the average fan or as a fan,
- 3:34Speaker 1: it's way different because there's things you pick up on
- 3:37Speaker 1: that as a fan you wouldn't right, Like especially if
- 3:40Speaker 1: you ever go to a way in you go to
- 3:42Speaker 1: a way and you'll see the box that's in shape
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the box that's not right.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Like you'll see it like, hell, so long, how.
- 3:49Speaker 1: You shit on TV? Too? But at first you're like,
- 3:51Speaker 1: wait a minute, they had to the moment after the
- 3:55Speaker 1: way and one guy sprinted to the water and one
- 3:58Speaker 1: guy is bouncing around. Okay, you kind of have a
- 4:01Speaker 1: feeling at that point of what's gonna happen the next day.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You kind of get a feeling or you see like
- 4:07Speaker 1: one guy confident, one guy kind of zoned out. Like
- 4:11Speaker 1: there's a lot of things when you see at like
- 4:13Speaker 1: the that friday before a fight that you just kind
- 4:17Speaker 1: of knows that you wouldn't notice any other way. But
- 4:19Speaker 1: since you're there and you're also looking for things, you
- 4:22Speaker 1: just pick up on things naturally. So that's why I
- 4:24Speaker 1: was kind of curious on you know, if you had
- 4:26Speaker 1: anything like that at the event.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Sure, and there's nothing really like that that stuck out
- 4:33Speaker 2: to me in terms of what the fighters look like.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Everybody looked great and both before and during the fights.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I will say, though, that I'm more excited about doing
- 4:41Speaker 2: more tangential related things to fights, like press conferences. Like wait,
- 4:45Speaker 2: I'll put it to this way. Imagine somebody who's never
- 4:47Speaker 2: seen Game of Thrones is like channel surfing and they
- 4:50Speaker 2: hit HBO and there's like a big violen scene where
- 4:52Speaker 2: a guy gets this head cut off and there's like
- 4:54Speaker 2: titties and stuff, and you're like, this show is great.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I don't know anything about it, but this is great.
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's kind of what Boxley was.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Like for me. I've never seen I've never seen Okay, Okay,
- 5:02Speaker 1: well batrows wire HBO HBO era, Like, so I I
- 5:11Speaker 1: have nothing for you on that.
- 5:13Speaker 2: That's fine, that's right. Well, yeah, if you just turned
- 5:15Speaker 2: on the channel and you just saw like a bunch
- 5:17Speaker 2: of you know, naked babes and the dudes getting you know,
- 5:20Speaker 2: got with swords. You might be like, whatever this is.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell of targariant is, but
- 5:24Speaker 2: this is cool. I'm into this. I want to watch this.
- 5:27Speaker 2: That's kind of what boxing was for, Like it was
- 5:29Speaker 2: was like for me back in the day. I was
- 5:30Speaker 2: like fight night, So this guy and that guy, this
- 5:33Speaker 2: lady and that lady. Who cares who the next fight is?
- 5:35Speaker 2: You know who cares? You know what fight they're trying
- 5:37Speaker 2: to make after this? It never really was never really
- 5:41Speaker 2: liked that for me. But yeah, thanks, honestly, really thanks
- 5:44Speaker 2: to this show. More than anything. I just see it
- 5:46Speaker 2: in a whole new light, and I now I just
- 5:48Speaker 2: want to go to more live events and talk to
- 5:51Speaker 2: more fighters and you know, just get to know what
- 5:55Speaker 2: it's like, what that life is like. Because I've done
- 5:58Speaker 2: the sparring and I've been very bad at it, so
- 6:00Speaker 2: I have no, uh any even the faintest idea of
- 6:04Speaker 2: what it would really take to do this for a living.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And it's just fascinating to me. So yeah, okay, but yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 2: just a couple more things on that night. Let's see.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I gotta see him a Lenor Argus, uh for Nanovodicas's son.
- 6:18Speaker 2: One of our guests, Gail Falcenthals, she said he could
- 6:21Speaker 2: be the next big thing, could be an Oscar de
- 6:22Speaker 2: lay A two point Oh. Kid looked great in the ring.
- 6:25Speaker 2: He got ah, Let's see, it was the last round.
- 6:30Speaker 2: The bell was just about to ring and the referee
- 6:32Speaker 2: stopped it. So his opponent was Augustin Quana. That kid's
- 6:37Speaker 2: face was fucked up. Man, it was bad. It was
- 6:42Speaker 2: real bad, to the point where the ref didn't even
- 6:45Speaker 2: let the final round start. And and that was he protested.
- 6:49Speaker 2: He did the thing. When the fighter was like, what
- 6:51Speaker 2: the hell he got up? He was like, no, I
- 6:52Speaker 2: can keep going, even how about this? Even if he could,
- 6:57Speaker 2: if he really really could have made it another round,
- 6:59Speaker 2: I still wouldn't said that the bad stoppage. I mean, yes,
- 7:03Speaker 2: I understand that people's faces don't really indicate, you know,
- 7:07Speaker 2: how they what the power of the fight is turning out.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But man, he looked bad. Liked it real bad. And
- 7:15Speaker 2: I guess the look fresh as the daisy, you know
- 7:16Speaker 2: he was you know, they looked like Shaquur Stevenson after
- 7:20Speaker 2: the tail Fema fight.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So man, man, and that's a all right. So it's
- 7:24Speaker 1: Funny you mentioned that when the guys that are coming up,
- 7:27Speaker 1: like the guys that are supposting to the guys, they
- 7:30Speaker 1: make it look like that. That's how it's supposed to look.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So whenever a prospect, whenever I hear someone mentioned like hey,
- 7:36Speaker 1: such as as a bright future or such such as next,
- 7:38Speaker 1: there's certain performances that it's supposed to look like. Right,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you're not supposed to struggle. If they're the chosen one.
- 7:44Speaker 1: They say, Hey, this guy's about to be the next
- 7:47Speaker 1: blah blah blah. I almost expect to shut out when
- 7:50Speaker 1: you're coming up. That's how I look at it. So
- 7:53Speaker 1: when I hear that about Fernando Son, that's a good
- 7:56Speaker 1: sign because hey, man, and boxing is very cutting. Yes,
- 8:01Speaker 1: styles do they fight When you're coming up. If you're
- 8:04Speaker 1: elite as a young fighter, you're supposed to dominate other
- 8:09Speaker 1: guys up until you get a title shot. That's basically
- 8:12Speaker 1: how it goes. And then a title shot. Depending on
- 8:14Speaker 1: who's holding that title, it's different because it's a lot
- 8:17Speaker 1: going on. Normally you're facing a veteran guy, so it's
- 8:19Speaker 1: a little bit different. But up into the ranks, we expect,
- 8:23Speaker 1: we expect dominating performance. So that's that's great to hear.
- 8:26Speaker 2: That's actually a very good point. Yeah, I mean not
- 8:28Speaker 2: to say to do the thing that boxing fans do.
- 8:30Speaker 2: It's like, well, you fight nobodies, you fight nobody's but
- 8:32Speaker 2: you do fight younger fighters, and you have to show
- 8:35Speaker 2: that you can make it to that next level. And
- 8:38Speaker 2: you know, if you're if you if you're struggling to
- 8:41Speaker 2: get your name out there because you're not dominating, not
- 8:43Speaker 2: just not just winning, dominating stoppages great performances. Uh yeah,
- 8:49Speaker 2: that that hype is going to dissipate unless you have
- 8:52Speaker 2: I don't know, a shit ton of followers on TikTok
- 8:54Speaker 2: and YouTube or whatever. And that's what, right, that's that's
- 8:57Speaker 2: what you can ride the wave. You can ride. But no,
- 9:01Speaker 2: I mean I've seen and I've seen but I guess
- 9:04Speaker 2: fight before and he always looked good, you know, he
- 9:07Speaker 2: always looked on top of his game. It is different
- 9:09Speaker 2: to see it live and just see, you know, what
- 9:12Speaker 2: what a fighter looks like actually in the ring with
- 9:15Speaker 2: your own eyes, And he looked fantastic. So I think
- 9:18Speaker 2: we're definitely, if if not an Oscar two point oh,
- 9:22Speaker 2: this kid is a talent to watch and I think
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think honestly too, even though he deserves it, it's
- 9:31Speaker 2: going to be a thing where, you know, his dad
- 9:33Speaker 2: is a name, and they're always going to try to
- 9:34Speaker 2: push that. So no matter what, we're gonna hear more
- 9:37Speaker 2: from him.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Right. So and he's from here, right, he's from the stage, right,
- 9:41Speaker 1: he's yeah, he's Mexican American. Yes, yeah, OK, right, so
- 9:44Speaker 1: that's yeah, but no, I mean, here's the thing. It's interesting.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Could we talk about this last show where we kind
- 9:50Speaker 1: of don't know who the next young young guy is
- 9:54Speaker 1: that's going to be the guy that take over for
- 9:56Speaker 1: a decade. We don't know that yet, And that's kind
- 9:58Speaker 1: of it's there for taking in a couple of you know, ethnicities,
- 10:04Speaker 1: if you want to go that far. Like it's kind
- 10:06Speaker 1: of there like that spot. I mean, we had Canelo.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Canelo's been a big name for fifteen years. He's been
- 10:14Speaker 1: either on headlining a card or co headlining a card
- 10:18Speaker 1: for over fifteen years now. And that runs just about over.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We had floy We had a combination of Floyd, Tank
- 10:25Speaker 1: and Crawford for the betterment last fifteen to twenty years.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That's you know, that's about over.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:33Speaker 1: We have Shakur. I don't know. Shakura's boxing style will
- 10:37Speaker 1: never be an issue right as a boxer, He's supreme.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I would never pop bad by his skill light, it's superb.
- 10:43Speaker 1: The selling and anticipation of a big fight weekend that
- 10:48Speaker 1: I don't know how that goes with him. It is
- 10:50Speaker 1: a good start last fight. I don't know if that
- 10:52Speaker 1: happens for every Sucur fight. It'll be interesting to see.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But I think in a lot of especially in our ethnicities,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I think that was kind of wide open for that
- 11:01Speaker 1: next megastar. I think it is absolutely I.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Agree, Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. Like you said,
- 11:07Speaker 2: and then August I looked up he was born in
- 11:09Speaker 2: oxnarn't he see's from California, So.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Uh, that's okay, that makes sense. That makes sense.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, So we're kind of seeing like where his famoue
- 11:19Speaker 2: popularity is with you know, a lot of Mexican fighters,
- 11:22Speaker 2: like from Mexico. We've talked about this on the show
- 11:24Speaker 2: a bunch, you know, that popularity and how it translates
- 11:28Speaker 2: and you know, we said before that Oscar del Aya
- 11:30Speaker 2: was a huge star but got a lot of hate
- 11:32Speaker 2: for not being authentic enough, not being Mexican. Enough I
- 11:35Speaker 2: speaking Spanish, you know all that stuff.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So ironically the two got the two names you just mentioned. Fernando.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It was Fernando before their fight said Oscar was not
- 11:44Speaker 1: a real Mexican and at the time that was a
- 11:47Speaker 1: huge ordeal, like twenty something years ago. It was actually
- 11:50Speaker 1: like a like a big thing, and it was iran
- 11:53Speaker 1: because as an outside you're like, wait a minute, what
- 11:55Speaker 1: does that mean, and you start talking to people, You're like, yeah,
- 11:58Speaker 1: we like, we respect Oscar, but we rock we recognized
- 12:03Speaker 1: for an animal, remember for now. Back then he was
- 12:05Speaker 1: kind of hood like, he's always talking regularly, He's always
- 12:09Speaker 1: he played the part. Whether he was or not, I
- 12:10Speaker 1: don't know. He always played the part, which is always
- 12:13Speaker 1: a big part of boxing. So a lot of fans
- 12:15Speaker 1: resonated with him more than he did Oscar, especially at
- 12:18Speaker 1: that time because Oscar was kind of corporate because Oscar
- 12:22Speaker 1: was fighting twice three times a year, but he was
- 12:24Speaker 1: a brand. I think he had Gold War promotions while fighting,
- 12:28Speaker 1: so he was a brand, not necessarily just a regular boxer.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So I can I can definitely see that for sure.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And if I remember correctly, to Oscar's image was more
- 12:37Speaker 2: of like a you know, a little preppy boy. You know,
- 12:39Speaker 2: he wore you know, golf shirts, pink golf shirts and
- 12:42Speaker 2: that thing was that is prime for for sort of like.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Stuff and yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, you know he's he's from like Colonia,
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know, he's yeah, he said hood, he's from me,
- 12:54Speaker 2: He's from it's from the ghetto, you know, kind of
- 12:57Speaker 2: grew up like that, and and that that is a
- 12:58Speaker 2: very different thing. Like I would never say, like I've
- 13:00Speaker 2: got from the streets, I've got a back skin from
- 13:02Speaker 2: the streets.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I said, yeah, yeah, I don't. Yeah, I don't talk
- 13:05Speaker 1: about people's upbringing. And that's not for me. That's not
- 13:09Speaker 1: for me to go into. That's not that's not my thing. Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So I think at the end of the day, you
- 13:15Speaker 2: know that that goes a long way because somebody from
- 13:18Speaker 2: the hood that works their way up and makes it
- 13:20Speaker 2: as a fighter and as you know, a star. Uh,
- 13:24Speaker 2: that means they really really worked their way out of
- 13:26Speaker 2: an impossible situation that was you know for a lot
- 13:29Speaker 2: of people.
- 13:30Speaker 1: So funny you mentioned that, like it's obviously we saw
- 13:34Speaker 1: people in poverty and people come from rough situations, but
- 13:38Speaker 1: we don't have like back in the day, that's all
- 13:40Speaker 1: we had, Like, boxers didn't come from three car garagers.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I didn't, right, we didn't have boxes coming from suburbs
- 13:47Speaker 1: and uh and maybe yeah, no, we didn't have guys
- 13:50Speaker 1: coming from great situations at all. Nowadays a little bit
- 13:54Speaker 1: different because there's a lot more other options for guys
- 13:57Speaker 1: who are not who have come up in maas stuations.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And also this number of overall, the pool of boxers
- 14:05Speaker 1: is way shorter than it's probably ever been before. And
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think that's where it gets kind of dicey, because
- 14:14Speaker 1: you know, obviously people still come from home beginnings, but
- 14:17Speaker 1: it's not like it used to be, Like you don't
- 14:19Speaker 1: hear nobody that was homeless and then they're fighting their
- 14:22Speaker 1: first fight, Like we haven't heard a lot the old
- 14:24Speaker 1: stories lately. Back in the day, that's all we are.
- 14:26Speaker 1: People's homeless people. Was you know, forgotten about the whole
- 14:29Speaker 1: line that living with father, Like we don't hear a
- 14:31Speaker 1: lot of those stories anymore, if I'm not mistaken.
- 14:34Speaker 2: That's a good point. Yeah, I'd love to do. I should.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I should go to grad school and do some research
- 14:39Speaker 2: on that, but I don't want to, don't I'm too
- 14:41Speaker 2: old to go back to school and do research and
- 14:44Speaker 2: spend all that money. But that's a really interesting take.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You're you're very right. I mean, the most recent thing
- 14:49Speaker 2: I can think of hearing was crits of Shields because
- 14:54Speaker 2: we saw that movie The Fire Inside that came out
- 14:56Speaker 2: at this Christmas last one, and you know, she came
- 14:58Speaker 2: up really, really humble beginning she was Kevin probably wasn't
- 15:03Speaker 2: homeless or anything, but damn near based on what the
- 15:05Speaker 2: movie said. But other than that, yeah, I'm trying to
- 15:08Speaker 2: think of I can't think of anybody off the top
- 15:10Speaker 2: of my head and like recent ish history that came
- 15:15Speaker 2: from something like that, you know, but as well, But
- 15:18Speaker 2: at the same time, you know, yeah, you don't. I
- 15:21Speaker 2: don't know how someone like the main event on that event,
- 15:24Speaker 2: Navarette versus Nunyez. You know, they're from a small towns
- 15:27Speaker 2: in Mexico, Like I don't know what they're what those
- 15:30Speaker 2: places are like, so it could be that they came
- 15:33Speaker 2: from those that type of situation. But speaking of those
- 15:37Speaker 2: two guys, yeah, amazing fight for the main event Navaretta
- 15:40Speaker 2: versus Unius. Navaretta one is expected same thing stoppage like
- 15:45Speaker 2: in the last round. It might have been I'm trying
- 15:47Speaker 2: to I can't remember which is which. I believe that
- 15:51Speaker 2: the fight was stopped in the penultimate round like before
- 15:55Speaker 2: and before it ended, and then for the guy like
- 15:59Speaker 2: you done a guy that is like they didn't even
- 16:02Speaker 2: let the final round begin. So but same thing, Yes,
- 16:06Speaker 2: got fucked up. His face looked terrible. There's actually interviews
- 16:11Speaker 2: from my media day that I did with Lavrete on
- 16:15Speaker 2: YouTube and TikTok, and they're bilingual there with him, it's
- 16:18Speaker 2: in Spanish, so you know we can we can do both, baby,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and he was talking about how this is his first
- 16:24Speaker 2: time he's ever hired a nutritionist, because I asked him, like,
- 16:26Speaker 2: what is it like being a Mexican fighter, and Mexican
- 16:29Speaker 2: food is like the best food in the world, like tacos,
- 16:30Speaker 2: the greasy, fatty shit. He admitted it was hard, and
- 16:34Speaker 2: he said, this is the first time I really done
- 16:35Speaker 2: a diet plan, nutrition plan. So we might see a
- 16:39Speaker 2: new Vakte if he sticks to you know, his health plan,
- 16:43Speaker 2: and might be even better than he already was, because
- 16:45Speaker 2: he looked great about thinking.
- 16:46Speaker 1: About it, like the foods Mexicans and Bloody will eat naturally,
- 16:51Speaker 1: our customary soul food Mexican food is very carbi. It's
- 16:56Speaker 1: very fatty. It's a lot of beef, pork, very heavy cars.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Whether it's rice and beans, whether it's back in cheese,
- 17:03Speaker 1: whether it's fried everything. It's very tough if you're a
- 17:07Speaker 1: fighter to stay in shape, if that's your culture, is
- 17:10Speaker 1: natural diet. So that's why I always ask about nutrition
- 17:13Speaker 1: because in order to be at your best, you have
- 17:16Speaker 1: to whatever you put in your body is you're filling
- 17:18Speaker 1: your body. So only a halfful of people can get
- 17:22Speaker 1: by eating fast food and whatnot. You've got to have
- 17:24Speaker 1: a special body, and that don't last. Right, Like they
- 17:27Speaker 1: saw Floyd on twenty four to seven back in the
- 17:29Speaker 1: day and all access eat that fat burger before fight.
- 17:32Speaker 1: That's that's cute. But also they don't show that at
- 17:35Speaker 1: home he's eating you know, sweet potatoes, kale, real chicken,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you know. So it's a mixture for him. But a
- 17:41Speaker 1: lot of people can't do that because the body. If
- 17:44Speaker 1: you eat fast food, you might you might pick up
- 17:46Speaker 1: eight pounds, and you can't train properly eating bad food.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was the thing again, nothing compared to
- 17:53Speaker 2: what a professional fighter does. But when I was going
- 17:56Speaker 2: hard at the gym and training and sparring. Like, honestly,
- 17:58Speaker 2: the hardest part wasn't getting in there and getting punch
- 18:00Speaker 2: in the face. It was keeping up the nutrition throughout
- 18:02Speaker 2: the week. And I wasn't even training. I wasn't even
- 18:05Speaker 2: really training. I just kind of wanted to, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: just be at my best when I got in there.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I would have a bunch of cheat days, and on
- 18:11Speaker 2: the chea days I would get, I would all kinds
- 18:13Speaker 2: of garbage, so way more than a professional fighter would
- 18:16Speaker 2: even if they did have a cheat day. So that
- 18:18Speaker 2: that stuff's crazy. And and let's be really, you know,
- 18:20Speaker 2: poor Black people food, Mexican people food, espect people food.
- 18:24Speaker 2: It's it's fatty and it's cheap. It's delicious, but it's
- 18:27Speaker 2: also poor people food. That's what makes it so good, right,
- 18:29Speaker 2: you know, So let's let's be it's it's the leftovers
- 18:32Speaker 2: that you know, the fancy, up skilled people don't want,
- 18:35Speaker 2: and that's what it is. So but it's awesome. It's
- 18:39Speaker 2: like the best food in the world. But that's why
- 18:43Speaker 2: it's not healthy. You know, it's not the lean cuts,
- 18:45Speaker 2: the expensive cuts of the stuff. But yeah, I know
- 18:49Speaker 2: it was. It was really interesting. I'm going to ask
- 18:51Speaker 2: more fighters if we get to talk to more for
- 18:53Speaker 2: this for the show, like specifically about diet, nutrition and training,
- 18:58Speaker 2: because like I said, that something that I got the
- 19:01Speaker 2: tiniest little glimpse of.
- 19:03Speaker 1: No, it's key because what happens is this when you
- 19:08Speaker 1: prepare the best you can. It's also regarding the nutrition part.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That's part of the preparation. Yes, you can game plan,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you can fight, you can run all the miles you want,
- 19:19Speaker 1: but if you're feeding your body bullshit well and then
- 19:21Speaker 1: light round, your body is not going to hold up.
- 19:23Speaker 1: But if you eating lean meats, you eating a lot
- 19:25Speaker 1: of vegetables, drinking a lot of water, staying away from drugs,
- 19:28Speaker 1: staying away from alcohol, staying away from bad activities, you're
- 19:32Speaker 1: gonna be all right.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, I would rate you know, eight
- 19:38Speaker 2: plus night of boxing there. That was February twenty eight
- 19:41Speaker 2: at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, and it was very
- 19:45Speaker 2: much a Mexican boxing night. They really you know, lean
- 19:50Speaker 2: into that. Of course, all the fighters were at least Mexican, American, brown, Hispanic,
- 19:55Speaker 2: whatever you want to say. A lot of Mexicans from
- 19:58Speaker 2: Phoenix came out to the event. I will say to
- 20:00Speaker 2: something too. That it's really cool for me is that
- 20:03Speaker 2: you get in there, you know the music they're playing,
- 20:05Speaker 2: they're playing Mexican music, but also you know they're playing
- 20:08Speaker 2: and they're playing bad Bunny, you know all the ship
- 20:09Speaker 2: that I listened to. Anyway, they're playing like Chona and
- 20:11Speaker 2: between rounds and DJ is really like so that just
- 20:14Speaker 2: gives it a little extra cool vibe for me personally.
- 20:18Speaker 2: It's like, that's that's the kind of music on my
- 20:20Speaker 2: playlist and that's all they were doing online and it
- 20:23Speaker 2: was really awesome.
- 20:24Speaker 1: So nice.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Nice, Yeah, so cool. So let's uh, let's move on.
- 20:29Speaker 2: You know where we like to we like to talk
- 20:31Speaker 2: about what's going on, what's going to be happening, uh
- 20:34Speaker 2: in fights in the future. But sometimes you got to
- 20:35Speaker 2: do a little recap and we gotta we gotta hit
- 20:38Speaker 2: back to fights that we talked about in previous episodes
- 20:40Speaker 2: because we're still beginning comments about Ryan Garcia, specifically my
- 20:45Speaker 2: prediction on Ryan Garcia losing his last fight. I want
- 20:50Speaker 2: to give a shout out to to commenter who was
- 20:52Speaker 2: I'll say that he was being respectful, a little starky,
- 20:54Speaker 2: little starky, but I am too, So whatever there's no slurs,
- 20:59Speaker 2: but I think it really brings up a good point.
- 21:01Speaker 2: So if y'all haven't checked out our previous episode, please
- 21:05Speaker 2: go check it out, because we had an amazing guest,
- 21:07Speaker 2: Legend from Boxing Legends Lounge Boxing Legends Lounge, Sorry and
- 21:14Speaker 2: really smart guy, awesome takes on boxing, very knowledgeable, very passionate.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And you know, we talked a lot about Ryan Garcia's
- 21:19Speaker 2: comeback fight, and we know that episode is on YouTube,
- 21:24Speaker 2: so on YouTube, we got a comment from a guy
- 21:26Speaker 2: that I don't know what this user David supposed to
- 21:28Speaker 2: be a sh d R khm R so shutter commer.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I don't know. I'm not even being a dick.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I just don't know what that's supposed to be. But
- 21:40Speaker 2: this person says, you know that Legend had good analysis,
- 21:43Speaker 2: called me out specifically for not accepting the reality yet,
- 21:46Speaker 2: and I was like, look, if Ryan has more consistent
- 21:48Speaker 2: performances against top level competitors, I will give him his flowers.
- 21:52Speaker 2: You know, I'm in waiting see mode. And you know,
- 21:55Speaker 2: obviously he makes a good point where he says I've
- 21:57Speaker 2: heard that before. First he's a YouTuber, then he's a
- 21:59Speaker 2: one trick pony. Then he has no belt. Next he
- 22:01Speaker 2: only has one belt. Next he beat the weakest chap,
- 22:03Speaker 2: Next he is not a multi division champ. That is
- 22:05Speaker 2: a fair thing to say, because I've said with myself
- 22:08Speaker 2: before that a lot of boxing fans just are really
- 22:11Speaker 2: unfair to fighters. You know, you can't win. Everybody only
- 22:16Speaker 2: fights nobody's everybody hasn't fought at the right competition or
- 22:20Speaker 2: the best competition. And I agree, you know, people can
- 22:23Speaker 2: definitely just kind of they could just be haters. I'm
- 22:27Speaker 2: bringing this up not to kind of trash on the
- 22:29Speaker 2: commentary by any means. I'm just saying that, like, I
- 22:31Speaker 2: would like to be more fair than that, and I
- 22:32Speaker 2: think that I am in some ways. But this is true.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You know, fans definitely. I've said myself about Shakr Stevenson.
- 22:39Speaker 2: You know his fights are boring, Well he gets better,
- 22:42Speaker 2: Well he runs away so that he fights in the
- 22:44Speaker 2: middle of the ring. Well, then he's not fighting the
- 22:45Speaker 2: right guys. Blah blah blah. And I've been a fan
- 22:49Speaker 2: of Chakort for a while and I keep seeing the
- 22:50Speaker 2: same thing that this commentary is seeing about Ryan, So
- 22:53Speaker 2: I can definitely understand that feeling of like you see
- 22:57Speaker 2: a guy, you like a guy, you see people attacking
- 22:58Speaker 2: the guy and not giving bread. So I want to
- 23:00Speaker 2: get your take, Jamison on how you feel about this
- 23:02Speaker 2: this commentary's thoughts here.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Well, so here's the thing. We all have our favorites, right,
- 23:07Speaker 1: So if we have a favorite and we noticed someone's
- 23:10Speaker 1: is differing, and we feel strongly about our opinion, we're
- 23:13Speaker 1: gonna let someone have it, right, We're gonna be petty
- 23:16Speaker 1: to an extent. With that being said, Ryan still has
- 23:20Speaker 1: a little bit ways to go. Like he won a
- 23:22Speaker 1: good fight. At the same time, the reason why that
- 23:25Speaker 1: was a career saving fight, it's a reason why, right,
- 23:28Speaker 1: we saw the previous fights with him, We saw the
- 23:32Speaker 1: last couple outings have been either shenanigans field or very
- 23:37Speaker 1: low vibrations with the performances. So one time it's always
- 23:43Speaker 1: fun to laugh at somebody that's wrong as the other agelo,
- 23:46Speaker 1: it's the whole picture. And but wait a minute, now,
- 23:48Speaker 1: let's dip the back a little bit because if he
- 23:51Speaker 1: lost that last fight, we don't hear from him like
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's kind of over. So I don't like to like,
- 23:58Speaker 1: no one bats a thousand, No one's gonna be correcting
- 24:01Speaker 1: their predictions. We all we all miss here, and they're like,
- 24:04Speaker 1: I'll do you one better. There's been fights that we've
- 24:08Speaker 1: all been way off on for whatever, for whatever reason,
- 24:11Speaker 1: whether we like somebody or we don't like somebody, we
- 24:12Speaker 1: didn't see certain things. Most people had Spence beating Crawford,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, like we can be honest about it. Let's
- 24:19Speaker 1: go back a couple of years ago. A lot of
- 24:21Speaker 1: people had Spence beeding Crawford or being a closer fight.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You know, people are gonna lie about it now. Hell,
- 24:27Speaker 1: people at Canelo beating uh, beating Crawford as an actual boxing,
- 24:32Speaker 1: not that they'd be a funny decision like an actual beating.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So we can all play money money everybody. No one's perfect,
- 24:39Speaker 1: No one's perfect. However, betting on Ryan Garcia at that
- 24:43Speaker 1: time was a dangerous proposition because you didn't know what
- 24:46Speaker 1: they hell to expect he is. He was unpredictable, still
- 24:49Speaker 1: a little bit unpredictable. His skills are what they are,
- 24:52Speaker 1: but you know, still unpredictable. So with all that being said,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I don't think that you're too far off. At the
- 24:58Speaker 1: same time, commentary's gonna commentars, and you got to live
- 25:01Speaker 1: with that. And that's how a game goes.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, and you know, I want to make it clear,
- 25:05Speaker 2: like I feel very lucky that we have a commentary
- 25:07Speaker 2: being you know, very I guess thoughtful in the way
- 25:11Speaker 2: he responds, because you see that other shit on Instagram.
- 25:13Speaker 2: People are just talking ridiculous shit and like I wouldn't
- 25:16Speaker 2: even engage or like give a shout out or anything
- 25:18Speaker 2: like us. They're just saying garbage, They're saying racist shit.
- 25:21Speaker 2: They're just you say something. You can say any things
- 25:23Speaker 2: like oh I really like Ryan, I really like Crawford,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and the first thing you'll get is like, oh for
- 25:28Speaker 2: a casual you don't know Box, you know, shoot about Box?
- 25:30Speaker 2: You know, like I hate that so much. If you
- 25:34Speaker 2: made Instagram comments, I legal, I'd be perfectly happy with that,
- 25:36Speaker 2: to be honest with you. Yeah, I know, I know,
- 25:40Speaker 2: I know.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So no.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, just making it clear, you know, we're not being
- 25:43Speaker 2: you know, coming at this guy or I, Like I said,
- 25:45Speaker 2: I want to talk about because these are good points
- 25:48Speaker 2: that I've made myself that the fans can be very unfair,
- 25:53Speaker 2: especially a lot of fans that are just sitting on
- 25:56Speaker 2: their couch, you know, with those Twitter fingers talking shit.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Never been never sparred, never been in a street fight,
- 26:02Speaker 2: never been in a gym or any of that. And man,
- 26:05Speaker 2: I absolutely do not do not mess with that. But
- 26:09Speaker 2: a little another little bit of what this back and
- 26:11Speaker 2: forth here, So I said, you know again, to try
- 26:13Speaker 2: to be fair. If Ryan looks the way he did
- 26:15Speaker 2: against Bodidos in his next two fight, even if he
- 26:17Speaker 2: doesn't get another belt or become a multi division champ,
- 26:19Speaker 2: I will give him his flowers too. Okay. My biggest thing,
- 26:23Speaker 2: the biggest sin, the way I would call it, is
- 26:26Speaker 2: his sleepy performance against Roly in the Times Square thing. Okay,
- 26:32Speaker 2: that's the ward, like you could you could have come
- 26:35Speaker 2: and I never, you know, said the Canelo was sleepy
- 26:39Speaker 2: against Crawford. I didn't say that, you know, uh that
- 26:42Speaker 2: oh he's he's you know, he's done blah blah blah
- 26:45Speaker 2: or anything, because he came in there ready to work.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I do not believe that Ryan did against Roly. Uh
- 26:51Speaker 2: that on top of his loss lost of no contest
- 26:53Speaker 2: after that, I'm like, why aren't you busting ass Ryan?
- 26:58Speaker 2: And this and this is the first fight after his suspension,
- 27:00Speaker 2: don't forget because that was that year luck suspension. So
- 27:03Speaker 2: he had to prove himself. You know, the king is back, baby,
- 27:06Speaker 2: Ryan is still here, He's still your boy. He's still
- 27:08Speaker 2: gonna gonna dominate. And he didn't do that, so you know,
- 27:12Speaker 2: why why am I gonna think that he's gonna pick
- 27:15Speaker 2: it up in the next fight.
- 27:16Speaker 1: So right, all that, but also thinking about like this too,
- 27:20Speaker 1: Like that fight gave Rowley some more time because role
- 27:24Speaker 1: is another guy where he was never gonna be like
- 27:26Speaker 1: a headliner on a card, but it was to the
- 27:29Speaker 1: point where he'd be like the third or fourth on
- 27:31Speaker 1: a card if he loses that fight versus Ryan. Now
- 27:33Speaker 1: he's in talks of fighting whoever you want to bring
- 27:36Speaker 1: up because he has that victory on his belt, you
- 27:38Speaker 1: know what I mean. So those days people don't realize,
- 27:41Speaker 1: like everything has a cause and effect, and like Roward
- 27:44Speaker 1: is a okay fight, Rowley is who he is, right,
- 27:46Speaker 1: He's normally a stepping stone to the big fight, right,
- 27:49Speaker 1: so my fights him to stay sharp to fight the
- 27:52Speaker 1: next fight. Guy, that's kind of how is this time? However,
- 27:56Speaker 1: Rowley's career is what it is, But beating Ryan's a
- 27:59Speaker 1: huge thing on on his resume right now.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Absolutely, And you know that kind of goes to give
- 28:06Speaker 2: credit to Ryan's fans. It's like, it's not like Roy
- 28:08Speaker 2: beats some rando nobody, you know, some some box car bob.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You know he beat he beat a big star and
- 28:15Speaker 2: he got a lot of cachet off of that. Uh.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And then lasting another comment from from this person that
- 28:24Speaker 2: I wanted to highlight the last one. So fighters should
- 28:28Speaker 2: be good based on their last fight. I Devin looked
- 28:30Speaker 2: bad against Jose once he beat I don't know who
- 28:33Speaker 2: Jose is actually, but that's fine. Once he beat Brian,
- 28:36Speaker 2: he is a number one old Wait should curb beat
- 28:38Speaker 2: the electrician from the UK? Not impressed? Once beating Tail,
- 28:40Speaker 2: He's on top of the world. ROLLI beat Ryan. He's dangerous,
- 28:43Speaker 2: right the bodios he needs a few more. So it's
- 28:45Speaker 2: like another thing that's fair, you know, you you don't
- 28:48Speaker 2: want to be hypocritical in the way that you talk
- 28:50Speaker 2: about these guys like what they're even in the way
- 28:54Speaker 2: that you say, like, well, now, Devin Haney's unbeatable. Devin
- 28:57Speaker 2: Haney is like the big next big guy in this division.
- 29:01Speaker 2: To be fair, I did say Devin looked good. He
- 29:04Speaker 2: also came back from the brink with a career saving
- 29:07Speaker 2: performance against Brandon. But now I want to see what
- 29:10Speaker 2: happens next, Like I want to see if he keeps
- 29:12Speaker 2: up and stays at this level. So same thing for
- 29:14Speaker 2: both these guys.
- 29:17Speaker 1: But so there was a guy last decade by the
- 29:21Speaker 1: name of Devin Alexander right. He was a light throwing
- 29:25Speaker 1: south Paul with a very bad hairline, and he at
- 29:30Speaker 1: one time fought Timothy Bradley. I think it was for
- 29:33Speaker 1: either belt or like no More contender. It was like
- 29:35Speaker 1: an important fight. It was like a big, big deal.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And once he lost that fight, he never got like
- 29:42Speaker 1: it was over, Like he never got a real fight again.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He was on cards. But you're never like when you don't.
- 29:49Speaker 1: When you're a champ and you don't like have a
- 29:51Speaker 1: little run ass champ, you better win your fights or
- 29:55Speaker 1: else it gets ugly quick. And my good friend says
- 29:59Speaker 1: it gets late quick lead in the boxing, man, they
- 30:04Speaker 1: don't when you have the opportunity, you better show out there,
- 30:08Speaker 1: especially at certain divisions, because there's so many guys that
- 30:11Speaker 1: are ready and willing to take your spot. Like I
- 30:13Speaker 1: look at Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia and all those guys,
- 30:17Speaker 1: they're all they all have good attributes right, there's all
- 30:21Speaker 1: there's things that you look they're not perfect, they're not
- 30:23Speaker 1: like elite guys, but they all have things where they
- 30:26Speaker 1: can bring to the table, right, some more than others,
- 30:28Speaker 1: like Ryan. Ryan has athleticisen to speed, like devin On.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Devon's best that he can look elite, but you know,
- 30:35Speaker 1: it just depends the way that you're getting and Rolling
- 30:37Speaker 1: Roller is a guy that is willing to do whatever
- 30:39Speaker 1: in the ring that he needs to do to make
- 30:40Speaker 1: a fight. So you can appreciate all these things. With
- 30:43Speaker 1: all that being said, they can't afford no losses, no
- 30:46Speaker 1: more like you lose, there's no more co headline and
- 30:49Speaker 1: there's no more being on the flyer. You are like,
- 30:52Speaker 1: oh damn, I remember him, Oh damn. He fight kind
- 30:55Speaker 1: of early, like you know those out go So that's
- 30:58Speaker 1: why I gotta be very careful when it comes to
- 31:00Speaker 1: these guys, Like I'm very interested to see what Hany
- 31:03Speaker 1: does next. Ryan's a little bit different because he has
- 31:05Speaker 1: more cachet and he can sell a building, so he's
- 31:08Speaker 1: a little bit different. But I'm so interested to see
- 31:10Speaker 1: what direction he goes into as well. But it's also
- 31:15Speaker 1: fascinating because we have to you know, got the people
- 31:18Speaker 1: overseas involved and everything going on. I don't know how
- 31:21Speaker 1: it's gonna affect boxing, Like, I'm very curious how all
- 31:23Speaker 1: this stuff is going to happen. There's a lot of
- 31:25Speaker 1: fights that need to be made at the same time.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I don't know, Like we kind of heard like Paramount
- 31:31Speaker 1: Plus is gonna be involved, it's gonna be I don't
- 31:34Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm very curious see what's going to
- 31:36Speaker 1: happen going forward.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we got to param Plus and ZUFA
- 31:42Speaker 2: being a whole thing. I chose not to talk about
- 31:44Speaker 2: ZUFA today specifically because I just need to do get
- 31:46Speaker 2: my thoughts together on what that's gonna be. But that well,
- 31:50Speaker 2: you know, we're not gonna ignore it obviously because it's
- 31:52Speaker 2: a big deal in the boxing world. But I have
- 31:56Speaker 2: thoughts I just done. I like to kind of have
- 31:59Speaker 2: a guide, like a couple of paragraphs, you know, just
- 32:03Speaker 2: there of what I could say. But right now, right now,
- 32:05Speaker 2: all I can say is I don't trust Dana White,
- 32:07Speaker 2: and he shit. But that's all I would have. But
- 32:10Speaker 2: but again, I'd like to be a little bit more fair,
- 32:12Speaker 2: a little bit more thoughtful than that. So but That's
- 32:15Speaker 2: that's kind of where I wanted this, this whole segment
- 32:16Speaker 2: to be is just kind of uh, you know, be
- 32:19Speaker 2: fair on our thoughts on on Ryan and other fighters.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Uh yeah.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I I also don't think that one loss would absolutely
- 32:26Speaker 2: derail your career. But guys like Rowley, Devin, and Ryan,
- 32:30Speaker 2: they're not just coming off one loss, and they're not
- 32:33Speaker 2: just coming off one.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Like a.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Win, but like a sleepy win. They're just like Devin
- 32:40Speaker 2: and Ryan just look like they were not didn't even
- 32:44Speaker 2: want to be in that ring during that stupid time
- 32:46Speaker 2: Square thing. They were checked out. And that to me
- 32:50Speaker 2: is sort of the biggest problem that that I had
- 32:53Speaker 2: with both of those guys, not even not that they lost,
- 32:57Speaker 2: but they just were sleepy like and Devin more so, like,
- 33:00Speaker 2: let's give Devin some uh a little a little the
- 33:03Speaker 2: shitting on Devin hatey bud get a little push push
- 33:06Speaker 2: a couple of more times because.
- 33:07Speaker 1: It was bad because he was coming off some things
- 33:10Speaker 1: that weren't good, and then the way his dad was acting
- 33:12Speaker 1: and the way they were acting, and it was just weird,
- 33:16Speaker 1: like for a guy that was a main contender for big,
- 33:19Speaker 1: big fights, the way he was acting carrying on you
- 33:22Speaker 1: would feel like he didn't care or that he wasn't good.
- 33:26Speaker 1: He went from the no car was it rule of
- 33:29Speaker 1: no contests at Ryan it was officially no contest.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Right, yes, and then his next fight was the Time
- 33:35Speaker 2: Square thing.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, So you go from that to that you looking
- 33:39Speaker 1: at like, hey man, like, if you don't have a
- 33:41Speaker 1: performance that we care about, you're kind of gonna get
- 33:43Speaker 1: forgotten because we can't. We cannot you know, we can't
- 33:48Speaker 1: do anything, like we can't do anything with this, Like
- 33:51Speaker 1: you can't. You can't have three negative performances of wrong
- 33:54Speaker 1: boxing and still matter. You just can't. Like no one.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I'll think about like this, think of all the champs
- 34:00Speaker 1: when they start falling, when they had like two bad
- 34:03Speaker 1: fights in a row, that third one's nasty. They're they're
- 34:07Speaker 1: not headlining in the card unless there's somebody else's tune up,
- 34:11Speaker 1: but they're not headlining in the card, and you can
- 34:14Speaker 1: tell that something's changed, whether they their skills are slipped,
- 34:18Speaker 1: whether the hunger is gone, whether the body's not the same.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Something is gone, and it's just not it is ain't it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It is ain't it. And it happens very quickly at times.
- 34:29Speaker 1: So they won't have a bad fight. It can happen
- 34:31Speaker 1: to anyone. Anyone have a bad fight and don't gonna
- 34:33Speaker 1: have a bad night. You have two back to back
- 34:36Speaker 1: bad nights. We gotta really look at the situation because
- 34:40Speaker 1: then something may right, because they're like, hey, man, what's
- 34:43Speaker 1: going on? A third bad night? The career is in jeopardy.
- 34:47Speaker 1: You start become a trivia question instead of a fighter,
- 34:49Speaker 1: and that's not good.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Hey, I don't know who Devin Alexander is. I had
- 34:53Speaker 2: to look them up just now. I nave been some
- 34:56Speaker 2: familiar is actually around our age. He's thirty nine, he
- 34:58Speaker 2: was born in eighty seven, So but I did. Sorry.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I also had to just look up now to clarify.
- 35:08Speaker 2: The Jose that the commentary was talking about was Jose Carloz,
- 35:12Speaker 2: which is the guy that Devin Handey fought and the
- 35:13Speaker 2: Times Square thing. So you know what, Honestly, I'm not
- 35:17Speaker 2: even kidding. I think this says more about that fight
- 35:20Speaker 2: in that event than you know, me not knowing my
- 35:22Speaker 2: shit about boxing. I forgot, Like I was like, did
- 35:24Speaker 2: I miss a hani fight against a guy named Jose?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Like that's I'm very kidding.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Here's the thing though, whenever you fight. You can't take
- 35:31Speaker 1: a day off. There's no just showing up whenever you're
- 35:35Speaker 1: getting that ring professionally, you gotta fight like your charisonal lone.
- 35:39Speaker 1: It can't be no almost going to stroll around and
- 35:42Speaker 1: you know, stroll through. No no, no, no, no, no no. You
- 35:44Speaker 1: gotta fight like you gotta fight. Fight. There's no playing around,
- 35:48Speaker 1: there's no I just gotta show up and no, no no,
- 35:51Speaker 1: because the person on the other side is trying to
- 35:53Speaker 1: make a name for themselves. How many times have we
- 35:56Speaker 1: seen a random guy that no one knew about that's
- 35:59Speaker 1: like a you know, five hundred plus five hundred and
- 36:01Speaker 1: above to win the upset, that focks around and wins
- 36:05Speaker 1: a fight. We see it every time because no one
- 36:08Speaker 1: knew he was He was more hungrier, he was ready
- 36:11Speaker 1: to fight. Mentally, he was into it. You just never
- 36:14Speaker 1: know what somebody else is going through and if they
- 36:16Speaker 1: if that's stay night, that stay night, and once that happens,
- 36:19Speaker 1: it's very hard to overcome that. Like a lot of
- 36:21Speaker 1: guys don't overcome that.
- 36:23Speaker 2: They just don't right, And that is one of the
- 36:26Speaker 2: main reasons why boxing is the greatest sport in the world.
- 36:29Speaker 2: In my absolute favorite the only one I care about
- 36:31Speaker 2: because anything could happen, and it's just two people on
- 36:34Speaker 2: the line. You know, you got a football team or
- 36:36Speaker 2: a basketball team you're depending on, you know, half a
- 36:39Speaker 2: dozen guys to get this win right, and that ring,
- 36:43Speaker 2: there's nobody else, it's it just the two people in
- 36:45Speaker 2: the ring.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Think about like this, Danny Garcia is going to be
- 36:49Speaker 1: in the boxing Hall of Fame one day. He's going
- 36:52Speaker 1: to be in the boxing Hall of Fame. Well, he's
- 36:53Speaker 1: all famed. Fighter is debatable. Everyone has their opinion on him.
- 36:57Speaker 1: You know, he's had belts a couple of times, he's
- 36:59Speaker 1: at some good performances, he's been you know, he's headlights
- 37:03Speaker 1: of cards. Everybody interpretation is different. Without beating amir Con
- 37:07Speaker 1: when he did, he doesn't get that opportunity at all.
- 37:10Speaker 1: His career never takes off like that springboard his whole
- 37:14Speaker 1: career with that one upset, and that was one of
- 37:16Speaker 1: the long shot five to one, six to one upsets
- 37:19Speaker 1: that happened. But again, when you got somebody who's hungry
- 37:22Speaker 1: and that takes advantage of the chance they get, all
- 37:25Speaker 1: bets are off. All bets are off. So with that
- 37:29Speaker 1: being said, it's always a chance, and I think as boxers,
- 37:35Speaker 1: you gotta have a good team around you to keep
- 37:37Speaker 1: you focused. There's too many times we see guys unfocused.
- 37:41Speaker 1: There's too many times where we see guys that are
- 37:44Speaker 1: not ready to to play. Are sorry to box you
- 37:53Speaker 1: know he don't. Yeah, he's too many times, too many times.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I reminded of Canelo, Rischach other or you know,
- 38:00Speaker 2: Jevas Junior had the name behind him and he had
- 38:03Speaker 2: the hype and Canella was the name. It was popular.
- 38:06Speaker 2: But you know that's that is a thing that really
- 38:08Speaker 2: made uh kind of kind of got his name out
- 38:11Speaker 2: for in Mexico as being like the guy. So yeah,
- 38:16Speaker 2: I mean I at the end of the day, last
- 38:18Speaker 2: thing I said to our YouTube commentary whose name, whose
- 38:21Speaker 2: user name? I have no idea how to pronounce. I apologize,
- 38:24Speaker 2: but I said, you know, we appreciate the comments in
- 38:26Speaker 2: the engagement, and we appreciate you know, like I said,
- 38:29Speaker 2: you can come at me and that's fine saying oh,
- 38:31Speaker 2: you know I got it wrong this and that, that's
- 38:32Speaker 2: perfectly fine. You know, I just really appreciate the thoughtfulness
- 38:37Speaker 2: of the responses and not just being let.
- 38:39Speaker 1: You to bitch. Oh you know, shit blah blah blah.
- 38:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean, Like, we'll never We'll never
- 38:44Speaker 2: engage with that. You know, if if I can comlete
- 38:46Speaker 2: those comments, I will. We're never going to be a
- 38:48Speaker 2: show that just is addicted to clapping back at the haters.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Like please, it's a waste of my time. You you
- 38:54Speaker 2: can waste your time commenting garbage all you want. I'm
- 38:56Speaker 2: not going to waste my time feeding into that. So
- 38:59Speaker 2: but commentary is like this person here, you know, please,
- 39:02Speaker 2: you know, we really want to hear from yea. We're
- 39:04Speaker 2: not We're giving our opinions and we want to have
- 39:06Speaker 2: a good conversation about boxing. I don't see this as
- 39:09Speaker 2: a debate. I'm not trying to get you to take
- 39:10Speaker 2: an l you know, from us going back and forth.
- 39:14Speaker 2: And at the end of the day, what I said
- 39:15Speaker 2: earlier at the beginning of the show, I love the
- 39:17Speaker 2: sports so much. I just want to learn even more
- 39:19Speaker 2: about it and get more engaged with it than I
- 39:21Speaker 2: than I was before. So stuff like this, you know it,
- 39:24Speaker 2: I love it. It gets my brain going and just uh,
- 39:28Speaker 2: you know, I I do. I do always want to
- 39:30Speaker 2: be a fair comment or commentator when it comes to
- 39:34Speaker 2: sports because there's so much garbage out there, so much
- 39:36Speaker 2: social media garbage, that we always want to be a
- 39:40Speaker 2: little bit better and elevate that. So but appreciate you
- 39:45Speaker 2: on the on those YouTube comments, and we all please
- 39:47Speaker 2: keep we are on YouTube and also TikTok their account
- 39:50Speaker 2: there feel free to comment and this person again sorry
- 39:54Speaker 2: s H D E r K h M R. So
- 39:58Speaker 2: moving on to people that are very hungry even though
- 40:02Speaker 2: there are less are no guys, what the hell is
- 40:04Speaker 2: this about Alexander Hussick fighting a kickboster? That's want to know?
- 40:08Speaker 2: In boxing rego for Hovid. I don't I don't even
- 40:13Speaker 2: know what to say about this. I mean, it is
- 40:15Speaker 2: a great fighter, you know, Usik is a legend. He's
- 40:18Speaker 2: a living legend. You know his We're gonna look it
- 40:21Speaker 2: back at him as one of the greats once he retires. Absolutely,
- 40:25Speaker 2: what the fuck is this about?
- 40:26Speaker 1: Like?
- 40:26Speaker 2: Is it just is the under contract for a few fights?
- 40:29Speaker 2: What is what is going? And it's and it's a
- 40:31Speaker 2: legit fight. It's not an exhibition, I mean, And to
- 40:34Speaker 2: be honest, I didn't read much about it. But I
- 40:36Speaker 2: don't know what are your thoughts?
- 40:37Speaker 1: I don't know either, man. I just think we're getting
- 40:39Speaker 1: to the time where they're trying to get as many
- 40:42Speaker 1: fights and content as possible, so they're throwing stuff at
- 40:45Speaker 1: the at the board, you know, I don't. You know,
- 40:50Speaker 1: that's kind of where we're at right now with it.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I don't think there's a situation in where we're crossing
- 40:58Speaker 1: sports now, just because I'm not a big fan of that,
- 41:01Speaker 1: because that's not how it goes right, Like boxers to
- 41:03Speaker 1: fight boxers, kickboxers fight kickboxers, MMA, f A. I'm not
- 41:08Speaker 1: a big fan of cross promoting guys. Even if a
- 41:10Speaker 1: guy is trained in boxing but only kickboxing MMA or whatever.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I respect the talent, but I don't need to see
- 41:18Speaker 1: like I don't care about that, Like I'm here to
- 41:20Speaker 1: be a boxing fan. I don't care about the cross
- 41:22Speaker 1: matches or the exhibitions and aren't I don't. That's not
- 41:26Speaker 1: for me. But we're gonna keep saying more because here's
- 41:29Speaker 1: the thing. There's always gonna be a demand for it generally,
- 41:32Speaker 1: and if there's someone will put money behind it, that's
- 41:36Speaker 1: what we're gonna get.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and let's again to just to be
- 41:41Speaker 2: a little fair. You know, Usik has beat the big
- 41:44Speaker 2: names multiple times, so yeah, I actually and something that
- 41:48Speaker 2: kind of gives us a little bit more. Wait, is
- 41:50Speaker 2: that I literally forgot that he fought Anthony Josha twice
- 41:53Speaker 2: and beat him twice. I could have sworn he fought
- 41:56Speaker 2: him once. I know he beat Daniel Dubot twice, he
- 41:58Speaker 2: beat Furious twice obviously, But yeah, I mean there's not
- 42:01Speaker 2: a lot of names, so I can I can kind
- 42:03Speaker 2: of see that, you know, to try something different and
- 42:06Speaker 2: just kind of keep try to keep it fresh. But
- 42:10Speaker 2: I don't know, man, like Osik's a big name, he's
- 42:12Speaker 2: a star, Like he doesn't need to do this shit.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I mean, people are going to show up for him,
- 42:16Speaker 2: especially you know, him being the heavyweight champ, right, Like
- 42:19Speaker 2: I I don't see him hurting for for you know,
- 42:24Speaker 2: trying to make his name higher profile, right. I don't know.
- 42:29Speaker 2: But another thing here that I actually read today is
- 42:32Speaker 2: that supposedly he's only has three more fights, including this one,
- 42:36Speaker 2: before he retires. Usick does so he would fight the
- 42:39Speaker 2: winner of Fabio Wardley versus Daniel Dubois, which would mean
- 42:44Speaker 2: it's a trilogy with Dubois, and then he wants to
- 42:46Speaker 2: fight Fury again. So maybe that kind of gives it
- 42:50Speaker 2: a little bit more sense of like that's I'm not
- 42:52Speaker 2: that excited. Of course I'm excited to see who sick fight.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Of course I will show up, But to then fight
- 42:57Speaker 2: Dublon Fury for a third time, maybe maybe it is
- 43:01Speaker 2: for the best to kind of get people, you know, excited.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't see it. My biggest thing
- 43:07Speaker 1: is just though, if someone's gonna pay you for it,
- 43:10Speaker 1: if that's the man that that's what they're saying, Hey,
- 43:13Speaker 1: you're gonna get forty million for this or in this
- 43:15Speaker 1: economy with everything going on, I can't. I can't knock it.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Why I can't, Like, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
- 43:22Speaker 1: tell somebody that they not they can't do something right.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I can.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And at the very least, again I will give
- 43:30Speaker 2: credit for the fact that this is an actual fight.
- 43:32Speaker 2: It's for the belts, it's not an exhibition. So the
- 43:36Speaker 2: the one against Ricoverhova and I mean so I don't
- 43:40Speaker 2: expect to see you know, Usik loose. But then again,
- 43:43Speaker 2: I didn't expect Tyson Fury to lose to Francis the
- 43:45Speaker 2: Gandhu and that's set of a bitch lost to France
- 43:47Speaker 2: as the Gandu. The Ganu was robbed. Justice for the
- 43:50Speaker 2: goduill say that to the day I die. They wanted
- 43:52Speaker 2: to keep Fury's record clean for the for the Usik batch,
- 43:56Speaker 2: but so he was predicted by the judges. Although I
- 44:00Speaker 2: would you know what, let me ask you this between
- 44:03Speaker 2: Usik fighting a kickboxer this want to Know and Usk
- 44:05Speaker 2: fighting Wilder. I know we weren't too thrilled about that
- 44:08Speaker 2: as prospect, but which one would you have preferred?
- 44:12Speaker 1: So horm repeat that one more time.
- 44:16Speaker 2: You got Usik fighting want to no kickboxer and then
- 44:19Speaker 2: the possibility of him fighting Deontay Wilder, which we.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Were Wilder Wilder Wilder. I don't you know what I mean?
- 44:27Speaker 1: There's a two and a half percent chance to wilderland
- 44:30Speaker 1: love you punch and he wins. There's like literally like
- 44:33Speaker 1: a very small chance that he can land his signature,
- 44:37Speaker 1: you know, you know, band man whatever you call himself. Uh,
- 44:42Speaker 1: you know, bunches and wins. I try, I'll get. I
- 44:45Speaker 1: don't like the cross promotion and ship I'm cool. I
- 44:49Speaker 1: don't like the I'm not a fan of the of
- 44:56Speaker 1: the the Oh it's this or that I prefer And
- 45:02Speaker 1: again keyword preference. I prefer boxers fighting boxers because of boxing,
- 45:09Speaker 1: there's a lot of tact that goes into it. There's
- 45:12Speaker 1: a lot of skill set, a lot of playing that
- 45:15Speaker 1: goes into it. If you're fighting a kickboxer Invega, there's
- 45:18Speaker 1: no there's no little science behind that. You just fighting.
- 45:21Speaker 1: You just brought like that's not it. And one person
- 45:24Speaker 1: has a clear distinct van over the other. Right, it's
- 45:27Speaker 1: like you're going against you have an expert versus amateur.
- 45:29Speaker 1: That's not really fair to me at least. Deontay Wilder,
- 45:32Speaker 1: for all his flaws, is still a former heavyweight champion
- 45:36Speaker 1: and was elite at whatever his skill set was. Once
- 45:40Speaker 1: upon a time. You said, can't just show up, like
- 45:44Speaker 1: he has to do some training for that, But the
- 45:46Speaker 1: kickboxer like you ain't gotta you know, I guess.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, well there for you can say that
- 45:52Speaker 2: he's never been, you know, the most skilled the seat.
- 45:53Speaker 2: We've said that he's never been the most skilled technical boxer.
- 45:56Speaker 2: But he is a boxer. You know, whether he wasn't
- 45:59Speaker 2: before he got into it, but he got into boxing,
- 46:01Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. Like his career was that boxing for
- 46:04Speaker 2: for years and you know he he was a name,
- 46:07Speaker 2: he got a lot of wins, he got a lot
- 46:09Speaker 2: of and again, you know that that third Fury fight
- 46:12Speaker 2: was fucking awesome. You know, he got knocked out, but
- 46:16Speaker 2: he he came to work. He was not sleeping in
- 46:17Speaker 2: that ring. Very exciting. Both of them got dropped. It
- 46:21Speaker 2: was it was, it was great. So you know, the
- 46:23Speaker 2: that fight lived up to the hype.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Uh.
- 46:26Speaker 2: And it was because Wilder, because he really was was
- 46:30Speaker 2: never people didn't kind of see him as the as
- 46:33Speaker 2: the elite guy because he didn't have the technical skills,
- 46:35Speaker 2: but he came in to put in work and he
- 46:37Speaker 2: made that an amazing fight. I think, so credit to him,
- 46:41Speaker 2: And yeah, I would have I would have definitely preferred
- 46:44Speaker 2: him while they're fighting usick than then these guys. So
- 46:48Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean he was six. I think
- 46:51Speaker 2: U six legacy is secured. Like I said, he's been
- 46:53Speaker 2: He's been amazing for a long time heavyweight and cruiserweight.
- 46:55Speaker 2: He's one of the few cruiserweight champs I can name
- 46:58Speaker 2: because I don't know that division super well. Uh, this
- 47:03Speaker 2: could be like a very lackluster endto his career, but
- 47:07Speaker 2: I don't think it'll really affect him. You might remember that.
- 47:09Speaker 2: You know, he kind of went out with a whimper
- 47:11Speaker 2: instead of a bang. The very the exact opposite of
- 47:14Speaker 2: Bud Crawford retiring, you know, being at the top of
- 47:18Speaker 2: the game. But I don't know. I mean, are you
- 47:21Speaker 2: are you going to tune in to see who they
- 47:23Speaker 2: fight kickboxing?
- 47:25Speaker 1: No? No, I don't do any exhibitions or things that
- 47:29Speaker 1: I feel like exhibitions. I don't do. Ye. I can't
- 47:33Speaker 1: only because if you support foolishness, then you can't come
- 47:38Speaker 1: out here every other Tuesday talking about we love boxing.
- 47:41Speaker 1: If you love if you love boxing and you love
- 47:44Speaker 1: what the sport brings, then you can't support that shit
- 47:48Speaker 1: and then come back here in ten days or two
- 47:52Speaker 1: days or whatever it might be talking about, Yeah, we
- 47:54Speaker 1: love boxing. Boxing should be this, this, and that. Nah,
- 47:57Speaker 1: we can't support Here's the thing. If people didn't watch
- 48:01Speaker 1: and order and go to it, they wouldn't put it on. Like,
- 48:05Speaker 1: I'm not a big Jake Paul fan. I'm not. However,
- 48:08Speaker 1: he has marketed this thing with him fighting and has
- 48:13Speaker 1: done him very well, and he's in promotions now the
- 48:17Speaker 1: whole nine. I'm not a fan of his. However, people
- 48:21Speaker 1: show up so a long people show up and support it.
- 48:24Speaker 1: It's gonna keep happening. And again I'm not for it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I I personally don't think it's you know, I'm not
- 48:34Speaker 1: not a fan, but there's people who do. And if
- 48:37Speaker 1: that's if that's what happens, they're gonna keep having these fights.
- 48:40Speaker 1: If people still South to South Arena, sell the sponsorship ads,
- 48:44Speaker 1: all that stuff, they were gonna keep. We're not. It's
- 48:46Speaker 1: not gonna be a shortage of them, especially for the
- 48:48Speaker 1: older guys, the guys who are fording up. That's the
- 48:51Speaker 1: way of keeping them kind of relevant and also keeps
- 48:54Speaker 1: them paid. Like Floyd fighting a kickboxer before he fight
- 48:58Speaker 1: Commanity in September, I mean, it is what it is,
- 49:00Speaker 1: right Like we kind of know that, you know, we
- 49:04Speaker 1: know for many reasons. But you know, while story short,
- 49:07Speaker 1: he's fighting the guy he feels like can dominate in
- 49:09Speaker 1: the ring. That's all it is.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I think that's a really good point. I mean, I
- 49:13Speaker 2: did say credit for this being a real fight and
- 49:15Speaker 2: not an exhibition, but if this is a big hit,
- 49:18Speaker 2: then why not make more exhibitions where with a fighters.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Don't put that out there because of his thing, Dame,
- 49:25Speaker 1: We're gonna unfol So that's the thing. Now we're gonna
- 49:28Speaker 1: see more. We're gonna see way more exhibitions now. Because
- 49:30Speaker 1: also I think that some of the UFC guys are
- 49:34Speaker 1: kind of like, well, wait a minute. Francois the guy
- 49:39Speaker 1: that left uf seen his own thing. He made forty
- 49:42Speaker 1: million bucks in three fights. I can't think of his
- 49:44Speaker 1: first name as African from Cameroon, but Francois was his name.
- 49:49Speaker 1: He made forty million bucks in three fights. He was
- 49:53Speaker 1: not seeing that money in UFC. He just wasn't. I
- 49:56Speaker 1: think you're going to see more and more cross matches
- 49:58Speaker 1: made just because the money is, it's gonna get made.
- 50:01Speaker 1: And with boxing being the way it is, I'm very
- 50:06Speaker 1: curious how things go in boxing going forward with these salaries.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Because I understand Saud he's involved, and in the Whites,
- 50:14Speaker 1: I understand a lot of parties involved. But the more
- 50:17Speaker 1: parties involved, doesn't that mean the more people cutting pieces
- 50:20Speaker 1: of the pine? Don't they usually mean that more people
- 50:22Speaker 1: gotta get paid and more people gotta get broken off,
- 50:25Speaker 1: and taxes and fees and sanctioned fees and all that stuff.
- 50:29Speaker 1: So it feels like the only way to kind of
- 50:32Speaker 1: combat that is to have these exhibitions. That's what it
- 50:35Speaker 1: feels like to me anyway.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Well, and now that we're talking about it more than
- 50:40Speaker 2: I'm thinking about it. Like I said, I wasn't as
- 50:41Speaker 2: down on it in the beginning, but now I'm thinking,
- 50:44Speaker 2: you know, Floyd fighting, anybody ties in the kickbox or
- 50:47Speaker 2: you know whatever, it's like a WW wrestler whatever. He
- 50:52Speaker 2: Floyd's retired, Florida's retired for years. Bustik is still an
- 50:55Speaker 2: active fighter. He has not left, like he doesn't need
- 50:58Speaker 2: to come back and make cash after you know, a
- 51:01Speaker 2: long time away being broke. So like this is kind
- 51:03Speaker 2: of actually shittier than that than seeing Tyson versus Roy
- 51:07Speaker 2: Jones a couple of years ago, because the man can
- 51:10Speaker 2: still make fights now and still defend his title. So
- 51:14Speaker 2: I don't know why I Yeah, I guess I'm less
- 51:17Speaker 2: of a fan the more we talk about it and
- 51:19Speaker 2: the less I'm interested in checking it out, because yeah,
- 51:21Speaker 2: at the end of the day, they're just if this
- 51:23Speaker 2: becomes popular, it'll just become a jumping off point for
- 51:26Speaker 2: a lot more of this shenanigans. And that's what it is.
- 51:29Speaker 2: I mean, uh, and I think I'd be curious. I
- 51:33Speaker 2: really want to talk to like a legit, like a
- 51:35Speaker 2: die hard writer, die Usick fan about this, who will
- 51:39Speaker 2: show up Alloa shop. You know, I'm a fan, but
- 51:41Speaker 2: I wouldn't even call myself like you know, a fanboy,
- 51:44Speaker 2: were like, I'm a Canelo fan boy, I am an
- 51:47Speaker 2: Usick fan. But you know somebody who is right? And
- 51:50Speaker 2: I hit that's his dude. And even though I watch it,
- 51:53Speaker 2: like you think this is bullshit? Right, if you're a
- 51:55Speaker 2: new stick that out there, this is kind of bullshit, right,
- 51:58Speaker 2: I mean I think so.
- 51:59Speaker 1: I mean he's thing Like, you gotta be honest with
- 52:02Speaker 1: your people, right, I'm not a fan of your the
- 52:07Speaker 1: people you are fan of doing bullshit. You gotta call out,
- 52:10Speaker 1: whether it's warrant or not. You got to call it bullshit.
- 52:13Speaker 1: You got to if it ain't right, ain't right. You
- 52:15Speaker 1: can't support it because when we support it, it continues
- 52:18Speaker 1: the bullshit. So you got to call it out. You
- 52:20Speaker 1: got like, no, I'm not rocking with this. I'm not.
- 52:23Speaker 1: And unfortunately we're in a society where a lot of
- 52:27Speaker 1: that happens. Like a lodge will rock with shit. They
- 52:29Speaker 1: probably shouldn't, but that doesn't stop anything.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And I would if Canela said he wants to
- 52:35Speaker 2: fight Tyson for an exhibition. I would say that's stupid.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I'm not going to watch that, so I just you know, yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 2: we don't give folks, even if your fans, you know,
- 52:45Speaker 2: that much leeway. But I don't know. We'll see, we'll
- 52:49Speaker 2: see what happens. We'll see.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Uh.
- 52:51Speaker 2: I'll read the recap or maybe watch the highlights on
- 52:54Speaker 2: YouTube afterwards with a private account or something, or I'll
- 52:57Speaker 2: do us the spoof just did not give it follows
- 53:01Speaker 2: or whatever. I'll figure out a way to bootleg YouTube.
- 53:04Speaker 2: It's like like watching Screen seven, which I do not
- 53:07Speaker 2: support because they fired Melissa Barrera. I am gonna watch it.
- 53:10Speaker 2: That's just gonna be bootlegged. But speaking of media and
- 53:16Speaker 2: pop culture, so if you're a newer listener, recent listener,
- 53:20Speaker 2: you know, we had a regular segment that we called
- 53:22Speaker 2: pop Pugilism, in which we discussed movies and TV shows
- 53:25Speaker 2: about boxing. That segment has been the hiatus because we've
- 53:29Speaker 2: had a bunch of guests, which is awesome, So it
- 53:31Speaker 2: didn't really make sense to bring that segment in when
- 53:33Speaker 2: we were spending on the all episodes of the guest.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I was traveling, I'm gonna be traveling a bit coming up.
- 53:39Speaker 2: So that segment was we haven't been doing it for all,
- 53:44Speaker 2: but it hasn't gone away. And after a couple more,
- 53:47Speaker 2: a little bit more traveling that I'm doing, we'll bring
- 53:49Speaker 2: back movies and documentaries, but we don't want to do
- 53:51Speaker 2: something different today. I actually want to talk about a
- 53:53Speaker 2: video game called Undisputed. It's a boxing game.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Was that I remember that? I remember that?
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So this came out, like you two
- 54:03Speaker 2: years ago, like or October twenty twenty four. So I
- 54:08Speaker 2: my relationship with video games is like I'll get into
- 54:10Speaker 2: one a couple and I'll be obsessed and I'll play
- 54:12Speaker 2: like NonStop, and then I won't touch my video game
- 54:14Speaker 2: system for like a year maybe longer. Are you a
- 54:17Speaker 2: video game guy, Jamison or you?
- 54:18Speaker 1: And I'm not anymore because I don't have time, Like
- 54:22Speaker 1: video games take time and you can mess around and
- 54:25Speaker 1: wait seven or eight hours on video games if if
- 54:27Speaker 1: you don't control it. Honest, Peter came out. It was
- 54:30Speaker 1: kind of like Knockout Kings back in the day. That's
- 54:32Speaker 1: what reminded me of, right, it was a lot of that,
- 54:35Speaker 1: but for the you know, the modern day. So with
- 54:39Speaker 1: that being said, I'm not a fan of video games,
- 54:43Speaker 1: but I don't knock anyone who is. Like some people
- 54:45Speaker 1: use video games and knock out the stress, chill, relax.
- 54:49Speaker 1: I'm all for that. So if that's at you, it's
- 54:52Speaker 1: all good.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think video games are a lot of fun.
- 54:57Speaker 2: I just but my thing is, yeah, I do spend
- 54:59Speaker 2: a lot a lot of time on them until one
- 55:01Speaker 2: is done. I think this one, specifically on Disputed, is
- 55:03Speaker 2: cool because it is a fighting game like a Mortal
- 55:06Speaker 2: Kombat or a Street Fighter, where that you can just
- 55:09Speaker 2: start a fight and you know what, I got something
- 55:10Speaker 2: here for If you're just listening to us on audio,
- 55:14Speaker 2: please check out our playlist on YouTube. So we're under
- 55:18Speaker 2: the nineteen Media group channel. We have our own playlist
- 55:20Speaker 2: there and I actually screen recorded the beginnings of a
- 55:25Speaker 2: fight in which I picked Canelo versus Roy Jones. I'll
- 55:30Speaker 2: tell you right now, I kind of suck at this
- 55:32Speaker 2: game about it as good at it as I am
- 55:35Speaker 2: an actual as firing. But it looks awesome. The graphics
- 55:39Speaker 2: are good, the fighters look like themselves. You know, you
- 55:41Speaker 2: got you got Roy, you got Muhammad Ali Canelo, you
- 55:46Speaker 2: got Jack Johnson, which is awesome. You can fight is
- 55:49Speaker 2: Jack Johnson and when you just start a fight, just
- 55:52Speaker 2: pick random fight and random fighters. You can pick the arena.
- 55:55Speaker 2: It's really cool because they have announcers called the thing,
- 55:58Speaker 2: so they'll have ring walk so do the whole animation.
- 56:01Speaker 2: The announcements are actually really cool because they'll say shit
- 56:04Speaker 2: like in my fight that that I played here as Canelo,
- 56:08Speaker 2: I was getting my ass kick by Roy Jones, which
- 56:10Speaker 2: I think would happened in real life, by the way,
- 56:12Speaker 2: if they thought it their prime. And the announcer was
- 56:16Speaker 2: saying like, oh, we've never seen Canelo in this much trouble.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Like they're actually saying like, oh, that's a mis left hook.
- 56:23Speaker 2: I'm like, how is I feel like such a grampy
- 56:26Speaker 2: to be like, oh god, the video games are so
- 56:28Speaker 2: advanced these days, but it's like a lot of it.
- 56:32Speaker 1: They use AI for a lot of stuff too. It's
- 56:34Speaker 1: commentary and the user control, so it's all intertwined. But yeah,
- 56:39Speaker 1: it's it's dope. It's dope. I remember the promos for it.
- 56:43Speaker 1: But yeah, Knockout Kings was very big in the nineties.
- 56:46Speaker 1: It was very big. I don't know why they did
- 56:48Speaker 1: away with it. I mean it's boxing, and boxing it
- 56:50Speaker 1: to his own way, so I can kind of understand.
- 56:52Speaker 1: But yeah, Sports had Knockout Kings back in the day
- 56:54Speaker 1: and it was dope. But this looks really cool, Like
- 56:57Speaker 1: the graphics look really cool here.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is the first game. I think, like
- 57:01Speaker 2: twenty eleven was the last official boxing game, Like I
- 57:04Speaker 2: think it was the A Fight Night and we all remember,
- 57:08Speaker 2: you know, James were both born in eighty six, so
- 57:10Speaker 2: we remember Mike Tyson's punch out. So I'm kind of
- 57:13Speaker 2: curious as to like why this isn't why these aren't
- 57:16Speaker 2: as popular, because I gotta tell you, even though I'm
- 57:19Speaker 2: losing all the time, they're fun to shit.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Well, boxing is not as popular as it once was.
- 57:23Speaker 1: That's it's that's yo. That's the biggest thing in the
- 57:26Speaker 1: nineties when they brought Knockout Kings out and you were
- 57:29Speaker 1: able to bring the old guys in with the current guys.
- 57:32Speaker 1: It was really hitting. But unfortunately with MMA coming into
- 57:36Speaker 1: the fold and boxing getting its own way, Like I'm
- 57:39Speaker 1: gonna keep it buck with y'all. Like I like Floyd
- 57:43Speaker 1: the boxer, like I enjoy watching him fight as the boxer,
- 57:47Speaker 1: but the whole business stuff the a side stuff not
- 57:51Speaker 1: fighting Manny until twenty fifteen and Manny bullshitting and many
- 57:55Speaker 1: fighting other people should be fighting. That messed up the
- 57:58Speaker 1: sport way more than people want to talk about that.
- 58:01Speaker 1: You can't have your two best guys not fight each
- 58:04Speaker 1: other for seven plus years. That cannot happen. You can't
- 58:07Speaker 1: have a fight of the century. That's five plus years
- 58:10Speaker 1: too late. It just it did. It did weigh more
- 58:13Speaker 1: damage than anyone wants to admit, because both guys are
- 58:15Speaker 1: in powerful people. But that fight getting delayed for so
- 58:19Speaker 1: long messed up a lot of stuff. Because in the
- 58:21Speaker 1: perfect world they fight multiple times, even if the same
- 58:24Speaker 1: person won multiple times, having them fight for real in
- 58:27Speaker 1: their primes multiple times does wonder for the sport.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think trilogies are still Yeah, trilogies are
- 58:35Speaker 2: still a big deal. And you know, people get excited
- 58:37Speaker 2: to say, oh, well, you know, maybe this one guy
- 58:40Speaker 2: wins one the other guy wins the other, so now
- 58:42Speaker 2: we're really gonna show who the who the real champ is.
- 58:46Speaker 2: So that there's no reason why Manny and Floyd couldn't
- 58:49Speaker 2: have couldn't run it back? How about this, There's no
- 58:52Speaker 2: reason why they would have had to wait till twenty
- 58:54Speaker 2: twenty six to run it back, which is still ridiculous,
- 58:56Speaker 2: right right, Yeah, it's sort of just like leaving money
- 59:00Speaker 2: on the table. Tell me about business, like you're leaving
- 59:02Speaker 2: so much.
- 59:04Speaker 1: There are so many allegations on one end that I'm
- 59:07Speaker 1: not gonna talk about online. That's not fair. We'll talk
- 59:11Speaker 1: about after the show. But there are so many rumors
- 59:13Speaker 1: and allegations going on regarding pds and who did what,
- 59:17Speaker 1: and the negotiations how much someone should get and vice versa.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Who's the A side, who's the B side? That ship
- 59:25Speaker 1: went on for so long. And also one was top ranked,
- 59:29Speaker 1: one was Golden Boy. Floyd had a preduce relationship with
- 59:33Speaker 1: top rank that didn't end well. So there's all kinds
- 59:37Speaker 1: of stuff that prevented this fight from happening, and that
- 59:40Speaker 1: hurts the sport. Imagine, imagine if Terrence Crawford and Earl
- 59:44Speaker 1: Spence never fought, we would have never gotten to this
- 59:47Speaker 1: point where you know, chance Crawford's the best fighter of
- 59:49Speaker 1: the last decade. We have never gotten to that point.
- 59:52Speaker 1: But that that would have been if Fence is like, nah,
- 59:55Speaker 1: I'm cool it. Spencer is like at that time, Spence
- 59:59Speaker 1: was the a side of the f going into it.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: He was the outside right, And imagine Spencer like, yeah, no,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I'm cool, I'm cool, I'm cool. It happens. I'm not
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: saying it's right, but it's just not good. And when
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: these things keep happening, it messed up the sport. That's
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: why I'm always in favor of fights happening, like you
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: gotta have buzz. Like Shakur putting a beatdown on tia
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Fimo in Masburg Garden was a big fucking deal. Not
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: because ti Fimo is some great, great fighter, but he's
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: a name that has done a lot in the sport.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: You have a rising star and Shakor beating him the
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: way he did, that's a big deal. Back in the day,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: we used to have that about six to nine times
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a year. Now it feels like we don't have that
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: a couple times a year. If that that seems like
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: the biggest issue. We gotta have more important fights going
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: forward to where they really matter and it really means
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: something someone's career, not just oh, I'm in a seventh
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I'm in a seven fight deal. Let me go fight
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: some random guy that's ninth on the on the wo
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: like no, like no, no, Robert Burrow, like we didn't
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: need to see you. Otis like you know we didn't
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: see you, but no one here to see you, like nah,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Like I understand why I was saying white go not.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: I understand the business part, but that don't That fight
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: doesn't mean anything. We don't look back at that fight
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: through any value in Victor ts. That fight brings no
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: value to the sport like Victor T's that was his
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: you know, that was the only night that was it.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: It is over. So with all that being said, I'm cool.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I'm cool.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And I really honestly forgot that Spence was the
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: a side of that Carford fight. Like you said earlier
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: that a lot of people were thinking Bud was gonna lose.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: I didn't, but I remember that vibe of like, well,
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: you know, Spence spencecer would But you're totally right. I
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: completely forgot that there was This was the Spence versus
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Crawford fight. He was that.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: And also, like here's the thing too, Crawford was so
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: undermarketed that the cat you had really no boxing to
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: know how good Bud was, Like you had to really
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: know boxing, watch boxing. Now to the credit of top rank.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: They were on ESPN for a lot of Buds fights,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: so it wasn't easy to watch. But if you didn't
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: like watch, watch and you didn't pay attention to what
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: you're looking at, you undervalue Tance Crawford because he didn't
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: have the machine behind him like other people did. Because
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: remember spin, before the car accidents and other stuff, man,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: the machine was behind him, whether you like it or not,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: whether you agree or not, the machine was behind him.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: But once he got in the accidents, it was never
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: the same. I still say that his vision was impaired
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: because there was he was reacting so late to those
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: left hooks that it felt like he shouldn't have been
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: in there. But that's a whole different story of it
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: every day. But with all being said, Tarance Crawford is
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: a monster, and I'm glad we got to find that
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: out because a lot of times we don't. We don't.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Yeah, And you could also react really slowly to a
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: guy who who has a lot of speed and is
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: beating the shit out of you, So you know, it
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: could go either way. I see what you're saying. I'm
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: just saying that it could also be possibly that Bud
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: was that good right, And just to be clear, Budd
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: is a playable character in Undisputed, the video game for
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: did I put on a Canelo versus Bud fight and
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: I was Canelo and buddocked by ass out like literal
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: knockout on the canvas in this game. So I'm really
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: not good at it, but it's a lot of fun.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: If they ran it back a second time, that's what happened,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: because you would have a Crawford being able to study
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: dissect what he did it wrong when he can improve upon,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: you'd have Canelo another you're older as you like to say, Uh,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: he is short, stalky big, not athletic wiry big, and
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: that is a very bad matchup fighting guy like Crawford. Crawford.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Guys I give Crawford issues are guys that are more
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: athletic and faster than him. Those are the guys that
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: can give him, can give him issues. Doesn't present those challenges. Now,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Canelo has power, but you cannot land said power.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: What are we doing exactly? Yeah? And and the speed
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: has always been an issue since he's gotten bigger and older.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: You know, he looked fantastic Canelo did when he ran
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: his do a d N disputed run. Don't get me wrong,
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: he was great phenomenal against kleb Plant, but uh that
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: was not that's that where he should be for long
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: or should have been for long. So but he probably
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: couldn't have gone back down going back up. We saw
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: what happened against Poball. But yeah, one Leas's thing here
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: on this video game, the only thing. So you got
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: the just starting a fight, but then they have like
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: a story mode kind of like you do a tournament
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: and you kind of build up your character with like
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: you pick a gym, you pick a trainer, you pick
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: a cut bana, blah blah. That shit is just too
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: much like if if you're on YouTube and you see
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: the screen shot, there's stuff you got to keep track
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: of like fatality, stem and their weight, and after a
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: fight you have to like click the button to make
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: a few weeks go by until you're right to fight again.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: And then you just can't. You can't just negotiate another
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: fight until your fighter is ready. That's a little too
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: much for me. That's a little too much like the
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: SIMS type shit. I just want to get in there
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: and kick some ass, you know, and if I can't
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: see I don't know, maybe we have. I'm not gonna
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: say I'm not totally not on the spectrum at all,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: but this, for me, you really got to be on
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: the spectrum, I think, to like really enjoy looking at
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: all these stats and shit and fucking around with the
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: details in a boxing game, which that's the only thing
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: that I wasn't too thrilled about. I'm gonna keep playing,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: for sure, but I think I'm just gonna pick random fighters,
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: and you know, it's really cool playing as Muhammad Ali
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: and Jack Johnson, and you know, they look huge in
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: the ring. So and i'd give this. I'd give this
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: a recommend, especially since it was like twenty five bucks
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: video games days the sixty seventy. I was able to
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: pick it up for cheap because it's a couple of
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: years old. I would not have paid like more than
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: that for this. But you can see Canilo is on
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: the cover of this game. So yeah. Another thing actually
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: that I that I used to play was not Punch
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Out for the Wii. They stop calling it My Tyson's
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: punch Out, But that was really fun because what the
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: we control is you're actually like swinging, you're like throwing punches,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: and that I have that on a shelf here somewhere.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: I have a Wii that I have a wi that
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: I purchased a few years ago because my original one
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: was left behind that NeXT's house and that's just gone gone.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: I was not getting that one back. But I can't
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: want to pull that off the shelf and check that
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: out maybe for a future pop putualism. So yeah, check
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: out Undisputed PS five and Xbox and PC. And if
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: you're a fan, if you're a fan of fighting games,
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: if you're a fan of the old school fighting games
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: like Knockout Kings, I think you can you can have
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: some fun with this one. I am going to be
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: picking up the DLC so I can play as Juli Chattis.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: All right, Well that's what we got. That's what we
