Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Ministry. There is a phrase
- 0:03hidden throughout scripture that reveals another
- 0:06dimension of divine intervention. It is not always
- 0:10spoken with the exact same words. Sometimes it
- 0:14appears as a command, sometimes as a limitation,
- 0:18sometimes as a boundary, sometimes as protection.
- 0:23But the message is the same. You may come this
- 0:26far, but no farther. And perhaps this is one
- 0:31of the most comforting truths we can discover
- 0:33about the sovereignty of God. Because there are
- 0:37moments when God does not prevent the battle
- 0:40from approaching. He does not always stop the
- 0:43fire before it is lit. He does not always prevent
- 0:47the lions from being around you. He does not
- 0:50always stop the storm from forming. He does not
- 0:54always prevent the enemy from pursuing. He does
- 0:58not always prevent the trial from entering the
- 1:01story. But scripture repeatedly shows us something
- 1:05extraordinary. What God permits to approach does
- 1:09not automatically receive unlimited permission
- 1:12to destroy. There can be a boundary. There can
- 1:16be a limit. There can be a line established by
- 1:19divine authority. And when heaven says, no farther,
- 1:23nothing crosses that line without permission.
- 1:28One of the most powerful pictures of this is
- 1:31found in the book of Job. God speaks about the
- 1:34sea and asks, who shut up the sea behind doors
- 1:38when it burst forth from the womb? And then God
- 1:42says, this far you may come and no farther. Here
- 1:47is where your proud waves halt. Think about that
- 1:50image. The sea is powerful. The waves are violent.
- 1:55The water moves with enormous force, but God
- 1:59tells the sea where to stop. The ocean does not
- 2:02decide its own boundary. The waves do not determine
- 2:06how far they are allowed to travel. God establishes
- 2:10the line, and perhaps creation itself is preaching.
- 2:14The waves can rise, but there is a limit. The
- 2:18storm can rage, but there is a boundary. The
- 2:22water can move. But heaven has already said,
- 2:26this far and no farther. And perhaps some of
- 2:30us need to hear that in our own lives. There
- 2:34are things that have already come farther than
- 2:36we wanted. A problem came farther than we expected.
- 2:41A betrayal went deeper than we imagined. A trial
- 2:44lasted longer than we hoped. A battle reached
- 2:47areas of our lives we thought were protected.
- 2:50And because it came that far, we became afraid
- 2:54that it could go anywhere. But that is not necessarily
- 2:57true. The fact that something reached you does
- 3:01not mean it owns you. The fact that something
- 3:04wounded you does not mean it will finish you.
- 3:08The fact that something entered the story does
- 3:10not mean it controls the ending. Because there
- 3:14is still a God who can say, no farther. This
- 3:18becomes even clearer in Job's story. Satan appears
- 3:22before God and speaks about Job, and God allows
- 3:26Job to be tested. But notice carefully what happens.
- 3:31The testing is not unlimited. God establishes
- 3:34boundaries. At one point, Satan is permitted
- 3:38to touch what belongs to Job, but not Job himself.
- 3:42Later, Satan is permitted to afflict Job physically,
- 3:46but God says, you must spare his life. There
- 3:50is a boundary. Satan has desire, but desire is
- 3:54not authority. Satan wants destruction, but destruction
- 3:59is not automatically permission. Satan pushes,
- 4:03but heaven establishes the limit. And this is
- 4:06important because sometimes we imagine spiritual
- 4:09warfare as though God and the enemy are equal
- 4:13powers fighting for control. They are not. God
- 4:18is not struggling to remain sovereign. God is
- 4:21sovereign. The enemy operates as a creature.
- 4:24God reigns as creator. And even in Job's darkest
- 4:28season, Satan never became sovereign over Job's
- 4:32life. The boundaries remained in God's hands.
- 4:35Job lost things. Job suffered. Job questioned.
- 4:39Job grieved. But Satan could not simply decide,
- 4:43I will take everything, including his life. There
- 4:47was a line he could not cross. And maybe there
- 4:50are moments when we need to stop magnifying what
- 4:53is attacking us and remember who still holds
- 4:56authority over the boundary. The enemy may be
- 4:59loud, but God is sovereign. The trial may be
- 5:04severe, but God is still God. The storm may be
- 5:08violent, but the storm does not become Lord.
- 5:12Now go with me to Daniel chapter 3, Shadrach,
- 5:16Meshach, and Abednego. are thrown into the fiery
- 5:20furnace. Nebuchadnezzar is furious. The furnace
- 5:24is heated seven times hotter. The soldiers who
- 5:27throw them in are killed by the heat. Everything
- 5:30about the environment says destruction. And yet,
- 5:34when the king looks inside the furnace, he sees
- 5:38something impossible. The three men are walking
- 5:41around, unbound, unharmed, and there is a fourth
- 5:46figure with them. Think about what the fire was
- 5:49allowed to do. The fire burned the ropes, but
- 5:53not the men. The fire touched what had bound
- 5:56them, but could not consume what God was preserving.
- 6:00There is a mystery here. The same fire that killed
- 6:03the soldiers outside the furnace became powerless
- 6:07against the lives God had decided to preserve
- 6:10inside it. And perhaps this is one of the clearest
- 6:14pictures of divine boundaries. The fire could
- 6:18surround them. The fire could heat the atmosphere.
- 6:22The fire could destroy the ropes. But there was
- 6:25a line it could not cross. It could not consume
- 6:29them. And perhaps somebody listening needs to
- 6:32hear this. There are fires that may burn things
- 6:36around you without being permitted to burn what
- 6:39God has placed his hand upon. There are seasons
- 6:43that may strip away what bound you. while leaving
- 6:47your purpose intact. There are trials that may
- 6:51change your environment, without changing God's
- 6:54intention concerning you. And when Nebuchadnezzar
- 6:58calls the men out of the furnace, scripture says,
- 7:02the fire had not harmed their bodies, not a hair
- 7:05of their heads was singed, their robes were not
- 7:09scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
- 7:13That is extraordinary. They had been inside the
- 7:17fire, but the fire did not have the final authority
- 7:21to define them. And perhaps one of the greatest
- 7:25testimonies of divine intervention is not always
- 7:28that you avoided the fire. Sometimes it is that
- 7:32you came out and the fire could not take what
- 7:38it wanted. Then there is Daniel. Daniel is thrown
- 7:43into a den of lions. The lions are real. The
- 7:47danger is real. The sentence is real. But Daniel
- 7:51survives the night. And when the king asks whether
- 7:54Daniel's god was able to rescue him, Daniel answers,
- 7:59my god sent his angel. And he shut the mouths
- 8:02of the lions. Notice what God did not do. He
- 8:06did not remove the lions. He did not make the
- 8:09den disappear. He did not prevent Daniel from
- 8:12being thrown inside. Instead, he placed a limit
- 8:17on what the lions were allowed to do. They could
- 8:20be present. They could surround Daniel, but they
- 8:23could not consume him. There it is again. No
- 8:26farther. You may enter the den, but the lions
- 8:29cannot eat you. You may enter the furnace, but
- 8:32the fire cannot consume you. You may be sifted,
- 8:36but your faith will not be surrendered to destruction.
- 8:39The sea may stand before you, but God can open
- 8:43a path. through it. The enemy may pursue you,
- 8:46but there can come a moment when God says, enough.
- 8:51We touched Peter in our previous conversation.
- 8:54Jesus tells him, Simon, Simon, Satan has asked
- 8:58to sift all of you as wheat. The sifting is coming.
- 9:03Jesus does not say Peter will avoid it. But then
- 9:06Jesus says, but I have prayed for you, Simon,
- 9:10that your faith may not fail. Peter still fails
- 9:14publicly. He still denies Jesus. He still weeps
- 9:18bitterly. But the failure is not permitted to
- 9:22become final destruction. Why? Because Jesus
- 9:26had already prayed for the preservation of Peter's
- 9:29faith. This is another kind of boundary. The
- 9:33shaking will come, but it will not take everything.
- 9:37The failure will hurt, but it will not erase
- 9:41the calling. The night will be dark, but it will
- 9:45not become permanent. And perhaps there are seasons
- 9:48when God does not prevent us from being shaken
- 9:50because there are things that need to fall away.
- 9:54Pride, self -confidence, dependence on our own
- 9:58strength, false ideas about ourselves. Peter
- 10:03told Jesus, even if everyone else falls away,
- 10:06I will not. Peter was confident in Peter. Then
- 10:10the night revealed Peter to Peter, but the sifting
- 10:13was not the end. Because after resurrection,
- 10:17Jesus restores him. And later, Peter becomes
- 10:21a pillar of the early church. The enemy touched
- 10:24Peter's confidence, but did not take Peter's
- 10:27calling. He touched Peter's emotions, but did
- 10:31not own Peter's future. He touched a chapter,
- 10:34but did not get the book. And perhaps it is the
- 10:38revelation. The enemy may touch a chapter without
- 10:41owning the story. Paul gives language to this
- 10:46mystery. He says, we are hard pressed on every
- 10:50side, but not crushed, perplexed, but not in
- 10:53despair, persecuted, but not abandoned, struck
- 10:57down, but not destroyed. Listen to the structure,
- 11:01pressed, but not crushed, perplexed, but not
- 11:05despairing, persecuted, but not abandoned. struck
- 11:09down, but not destroyed. There is pressure, but
- 11:13there is a limit. There is pain, but there is
- 11:17a boundary. There is attack, but there is still
- 11:20preservation. There is falling, but there is
- 11:24not final destruction. Paul is describing the
- 11:28difference between what happened and what God
- 11:31did not allow it to become. That is divine intervention.
- 11:35The pressure was real. But it could not crush.
- 11:39The persecution was real. But it could not produce
- 11:43abandonment. The strike was real. But it could
- 11:47not become destruction. And maybe that is how
- 11:50you need to reinterpret some things in your own
- 11:52life. Yes, it hurt. But you are still here. Yes,
- 11:58you were pressed. But you were not crushed. Yes,
- 12:02you became confused. But you did not lose your
- 12:06entire hope. Yes, something knocked you down,
- 12:11but something else kept calling you back to your
- 12:13feet. Maybe you have been focusing on what touched
- 12:16you, and not enough on what was unable to finish
- 12:20you. Now go back to the Red Sea. Israel has Egypt
- 12:26behind them. The sea is in front of them. There
- 12:29is nowhere to go. Moses tells the people, do
- 12:33not be afraid. Stand firm. and you will see the
- 12:37deliverance the Lord will bring you today." And
- 12:40then he says, the Egyptians you see today you
- 12:43will never see again. What a declaration. Israel
- 12:48had seen Egypt for generations. Egypt had defined
- 12:52their environment. Egypt had defined their labor.
- 12:57Egypt had defined their suffering. Egypt had
- 13:00defined their oppression. But God was establishing
- 13:03a boundary. Egypt had come far enough. Slavery
- 13:07had come far enough. Pharaoh had come far enough.
- 13:12The pursuit had come far enough. There came a
- 13:16moment when history changed because God said,
- 13:19no farther. The same waters that opened for Israel
- 13:23closed over Egypt. And suddenly, the thing that
- 13:27had pursued them no longer had access to the
- 13:30next chapter. Maybe that is another form of divine
- 13:34intervention. Sometimes God carries you while
- 13:38something pursues you. But there are moments
- 13:41when God refuses to allow what followed you out
- 13:44of one season to follow you into the next. The
- 13:49wilderness ahead belonged to Israel's journey
- 13:52with God. Pharaoh could not come with them. And
- 13:56maybe there are things that God will not permit
- 13:59to accompany you into. where he is taking you.
- 14:03Not every relationship belongs in the next season.
- 14:07Not every fear belongs in the next season. Not
- 14:11every habit belongs in the next season. Not every
- 14:15wound is supposed to continue controlling you.
- 14:18Not every voice that defined you in Egypt receives
- 14:21permission to speak in Canaan. There comes a
- 14:25moment when heaven says, that went far enough.
- 14:30But there is something we need to understand.
- 14:34We do not always get to choose where the boundary
- 14:37is. We would prefer the boundary to be before
- 14:40the battle, before the furnace, before the den,
- 14:45before the sifting, before the betrayal, before
- 14:49the valley. But sometimes God draws the line
- 14:53farther into the story than we would have chosen.
- 14:57The Hebrews were not protected from entering
- 14:59the furnace, They were protected in the furnace.
- 15:03Daniel was not protected from the den. He was
- 15:07protected in the den. Peter was not protected
- 15:10from failure. He was preserved through failure.
- 15:14Paul was not protected from pressure. He was
- 15:17preserved under pressure. And this requires a
- 15:21deeper kind of faith, because sometimes we pray,
- 15:25God, don't let this happen. And when something
- 15:28happens anyway, we assume God has lost control.
- 15:33But perhaps God is still sovereign even when
- 15:35the boundary is not where we wanted it. Maybe
- 15:39we wanted God to say, it cannot approach. And
- 15:42God said, it may approach, but it cannot destroy.
- 15:47We wanted no furnace. God said no burning. We
- 15:51wanted no lions. God said no devouring. We wanted
- 15:56No sifting. Jesus said, Your faith will not fail.
- 16:01That does not mean suffering is insignificant.
- 16:04It does not mean pain should be romanticized.
- 16:07It means God's preserving power is not limited
- 16:10to preventing difficulty. He can also establish
- 16:13limits inside difficulty. And that is one of
- 16:16the great mysteries of divine intervention. Isaiah
- 16:21declares, No weapon forged against you will prevail.
- 16:25Notice something, the promise does not say no
- 16:29weapon will ever be formed. Weapons may be formed,
- 16:33plans may be made, opposition may arise, but
- 16:36formation and success are not the same thing.
- 16:41Something can be formed against you and still
- 16:44fail to accomplish its ultimate intention. That
- 16:47does not mean believers never experience pain
- 16:51or loss. Scripture itself gives us too many examples
- 16:55for us to say that, but it does mean opposition
- 16:58does not possess sovereign authority over God's
- 17:01purposes. A weapon can be real and still not
- 17:05be final. A plan can be serious and still not
- 17:09prevail. A battle can be intense and still encounter
- 17:13a boundary it cannot cross. So perhaps the question
- 17:18is not always. Has something been formed against
- 17:21me? Maybe the better question is, who has final
- 17:25authority? And for the believer, the answer is
- 17:29not the weapon, not the enemy, not the circumstance,
- 17:33not the diagnosis, not the opposition, not the
- 17:37accusation, not the valley, God. And perhaps
- 17:42this is where faith rises. There may be things
- 17:45in your life right now that have come farther
- 17:48than you wanted. Maybe the fire is already hot.
- 17:52Maybe the lions are already around you. Maybe
- 17:55the pressure is already real. Maybe the trial
- 17:58is already in motion. Maybe the thing you prayed
- 18:01would never happen has already happened. But
- 18:04do not assume that because it came this far,
- 18:07it can go wherever it wants. There is still a
- 18:11God who establishes boundaries. The sea may rise,
- 18:15but God has a line. The fire may burn. but God
- 18:19has a line. The lion may roar, but God has a
- 18:23line. The enemy may pursue, but God has a line.
- 18:28And when his sovereign purpose says, no father,
- 18:31no force in heaven, earth, or hell can overturn
- 18:35his authority. So today, I refuse to surrender
- 18:39to fear simply because the battle has approached.
- 18:42I refuse to assume that proximity means victory.
- 18:46I refuse to believe that because something touched
- 18:49my life, it now owns my life. No, the God who
- 18:53carried me, the God who went before me, the God
- 18:57who fought battles I never saw, is also the God
- 19:02who establishes boundaries, and perhaps there
- 19:05are things that will discover something about
- 19:08my God before the season is finished. They cannot
- 19:11go as far as they intended. The fire cannot take
- 19:16everything. The lions cannot consume everything.
- 19:21The pressure cannot crush everything. The sifting
- 19:24cannot destroy everything. The enemy cannot follow
- 19:29me everywhere. There is a boundary, and perhaps
- 19:32the very reason I am still standing is because
- 19:36somewhere along the way. God already said, no
- 19:40farther. But there is another question. What
- 19:45happens after God establishes the boundary? What
- 19:49happens when the enemy has gone as far as God
- 19:52will permit? What happens when the sea has reached
- 19:56its limit? What happens when the night has gone
- 20:00as far as it can go? Because scripture reveals
- 20:03something else. There are moments when God does
- 20:07more than stop what is coming against you. Sometimes
- 20:10he reverses the direction of the battle. The
- 20:14pursuer becomes pursued. The accuser is exposed.
- 20:19The prison door opens. The stone is rolled away.
- 20:23The enemy that expected victory discovers that
- 20:26God has changed the outcome. And perhaps that
- 20:29is the next dimension of this mystery. Not only,
- 20:34no farther, but sometimes. Now watch what I do.
- 20:38That is where we will continue next time as we
- 20:41keep exploring the mystery of divine intervention.
- 20:45Until then, stay in faith. Stay anchored. Do
- 20:50not measure God's sovereignty by how close the
- 20:53battle came. Remember, what approached you may
- 20:58still have encountered a boundary you cannot
- 21:00see, and what looks unrestricted to you may already
- 21:04have heard a command from heaven. This far, and
- 21:07no farther. This is Pomoja Ministry. One conversation,
- 21:13one story, one revelation at a time. Until next
- 21:18time, God bless you.
