- 0:05Speaker 1: discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I got a knock on my apartment door. Looking through
- 0:10Speaker 2: the people, I see two cops on the other side,
- 0:14Speaker 2: and I opened the door confused and told them they
- 0:16Speaker 2: could come in.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I never thought to lock the door, because really, I
- 0:21Speaker 3: figured hits in the middle of the woods, so there
- 0:24Speaker 3: was nothing to worry about.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I was wrong.
- 0:27Speaker 5: I left the bathroom door slightly open enough so I
- 0:30Speaker 5: could see a man in my shower turning his back
- 0:32Speaker 5: to me.

- 1:36Speaker 6: in everyone, and thanks for joining me. This week, I'm
- 1:40Speaker 6: bringing you four true horrifying tales that will keep you
- 1:43Speaker 6: on your toes. So sit back and listen close as
- 1:49Speaker 6: we dive into the horror. We open the show with
- 1:54Speaker 6: an email submission from Trevor, featuring voice work by Matt Bradford.
- 1:59Speaker 6: And I just can't explain who it was.
- 2:11Speaker 2: My incident happened almost exactly two years ago when I
- 2:14Speaker 2: was twenty one years old. I work second shift three
- 2:17Speaker 2: pm until midnight. That'll be important later.
- 2:20Speaker 4: See.
- 2:21Speaker 2: There's a gas station near my apartment that I would
- 2:23Speaker 2: go to at least three to four days a week
- 2:25Speaker 2: after work for hot food, and it was the only
- 2:27Speaker 2: gas station around me that was open at that time.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm on a first name basis with the overnight workers
- 2:32Speaker 2: because they're around my age, and we always make small
- 2:35Speaker 2: talk when I go in. One morning in early January,
- 2:38Speaker 2: my intercom rang in my apartment. Thinking it was the
- 2:41Speaker 2: usual delivery guy or mailman, I buzz them into our
- 2:44Speaker 2: building without hesitation, you know, thinking they might leave the
- 2:47Speaker 2: package inside the building. Then I got a knock on
- 2:50Speaker 2: my apartment door. Looking through the peepole, I see two
- 2:54Speaker 2: cops on the other side. I opened the door, confused
- 2:58Speaker 2: and told them they could come in. One officer said,
- 3:01Speaker 2: we're here about the events that happened at the gas
- 3:03Speaker 2: station last night around ten pm.
- 3:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Describe me the gas station I go to on my
- 3:07Speaker 2: way home from work. We're here to ask you if
- 3:09Speaker 2: you can identify the suspect. I assume someone stole something,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and I see a lot of the regulars that go infrequently,
- 3:15Speaker 2: so I figured I could at least be some help
- 3:17Speaker 2: to them. Now, he continued, Now, Eric, one of the
- 3:21Speaker 2: cashiers I frequently see working, identified you in one of
- 3:24Speaker 2: our pictures from the security camera. I'm guessing Eric remembered
- 3:27Speaker 2: my last name from the amount of times I've gotten
- 3:29Speaker 2: carted there, and they have to scan your ID every
- 3:32Speaker 2: time due to the company policy. Well, the cops pulled
- 3:35Speaker 2: out a picture from the security cameras, not great quality,
- 3:38Speaker 2: but I could see myself, Eric, and another guy pretty clearly.
- 3:42Speaker 2: One of the cops then asked me if I could
- 3:44Speaker 2: identify the other guy in the picture who was robbing
- 3:47Speaker 2: the gas station. I was confused. I didn't remember anyone
- 3:51Speaker 2: robbing the gas station, and I've never seen the guy
- 3:54Speaker 2: in the photo. Then it hit me. I was working
- 3:58Speaker 2: last night at ten pm. I hadn't even gone to
- 4:01Speaker 2: the gas station in a couple of days. I just
- 4:04Speaker 2: sat there trying to make sense out of what the
- 4:06Speaker 2: cops were saying. I took a closer look at the
- 4:09Speaker 2: picture and recognized the black jacket I was wearing I'd
- 4:12Speaker 2: just gotten in a couple weeks prior for Christmas. Then
- 4:16Speaker 2: I saw my shoes, my black and white Jordans. I
- 4:19Speaker 2: did have those shoes, but I got rid of them
- 4:22Speaker 2: a couple months prior after ruining them at a bonfire.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I was speechless. Nothing about this situation made sense to me.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I wanted to ask questions, but I didn't want to
- 4:32Speaker 2: look suspicious, pretending like I wasn't there because it was
- 4:35Speaker 2: clearly me in the photo. I told them I didn't
- 4:38Speaker 2: recognize the individual in the photo, but asked if I
- 4:41Speaker 2: could get a copy of it. They said no, due
- 4:43Speaker 2: to it being evidence. Gave me a number to call
- 4:45Speaker 2: in case I remembered anything.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I know.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I was at work that night until midnight, and I
- 4:51Speaker 2: know I had gotten rid of those shoes months ago
- 4:53Speaker 2: and just got my jacket. But I also knew that
- 4:56Speaker 2: was clearly me. I've been googling the parallel universe and
- 5:01Speaker 2: different multiverse theories to try to make sense of the situation,
- 5:04Speaker 2: but I'm not able to I've avoided going to that
- 5:08Speaker 2: gas station in fear of Eric bringing it up and
- 5:10Speaker 2: me not knowing what to say. I haven't told many
- 5:13Speaker 2: people about this experience due to how outlandish it sounds,
- 5:17Speaker 2: but hearing others talk about their doppelgainer experience on this
- 5:20Speaker 2: podcast has made me want to share mind.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Hey, I absolutely am in love with this podcast. I
- 5:38Speaker 4: listen on Spotify, and oh my gosh, it's really helped
- 5:42Speaker 4: me get through a lot. I'm a big fan of horror.
- 5:46Speaker 4: My co friend has been going through a lot lately
- 5:48Speaker 4: and we're not allowed to speak to each other, and
- 5:52Speaker 4: just listening to you guys at night, just it really
- 5:55Speaker 4: helps me. Sometimes I actually fall asleep to it and
- 5:59Speaker 4: then I actually in the story and it comes alive,
- 6:03Speaker 4: and it comes alive in a way that I really
- 6:05Speaker 4: can't describe. So I just really want to thank you
- 6:07Speaker 4: for all that you do, and I want to thank
- 6:09Speaker 4: you for letting us know that we need to be safe.
- 6:13Speaker 4: And I hope you guys continue to do this forever
- 6:16Speaker 4: and ever. Amen, anyway, I'll catch you wait.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Next up is our title story coming to us from
- 6:29Speaker 6: Reddit user Hales seventeen twenty one, featuring voice work by
- 6:33Speaker 6: Melissa Medina, and we try to escape the creature in
- 6:37Speaker 6: the night.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So I've posted this in the Wendigo community I'm in,
- 6:48Speaker 3: but I also wanted to share this here to see
- 6:50Speaker 3: if anyone else has any intel it can help me,
- 6:53Speaker 3: since the other community seems to be pretty quiet. I
- 6:57Speaker 3: realize how unbelievable this story you might be, but I
- 7:01Speaker 3: assure you it's entirely true. I've had countless experiences with
- 7:06Speaker 3: the supernatural since I was four. I'm thirty three now,
- 7:10Speaker 3: but this is one of the most terrifying ones I've had.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I've looked at some of the stories in this community
- 7:16Speaker 3: to see if there's anything I haven't discovered yet. I
- 7:19Speaker 3: thought that if I shared my encounter here, there might
- 7:22Speaker 3: be someone who has some information that could help. I'm
- 7:25Speaker 3: looking for legitimate information. My questions are at the end
- 7:29Speaker 3: of this thanks in advance. I had an experience with
- 7:33Speaker 3: a one to Go this fall in early October in
- 7:35Speaker 3: northern Minnesota in a state forest very close to, if
- 7:39Speaker 3: not on a reservation. I've always heard that speaking of
- 7:43Speaker 3: them can draw them near to you, but I hadn't
- 7:46Speaker 3: thought of or listened to any one to Go stories anytime.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Close to my encounter, I was staying with some very
- 7:52Speaker 3: dear friends I'll call them M and C. And they
- 7:56Speaker 3: have a camper in their yard by the lake for
- 7:58Speaker 3: guests to sleep in. I had walked down to the
- 8:01Speaker 3: camper from the house with my miniature docks into Ebony
- 8:04Speaker 3: around midnight and found that I needed to set some
- 8:07Speaker 3: things up, primarily the heater. By the time I was
- 8:10Speaker 3: done getting everything in order, it was approximately one point thirty.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I never thought to lock the door, because really, I
- 8:18Speaker 3: figured hits in the middle of the woods, so there
- 8:20Speaker 3: was nothing to worry about. I was wrong. I had
- 8:25Speaker 3: closed the curtains, thank god, and I was having trouble
- 8:28Speaker 3: falling asleep because my anxiety was going mad. M and
- 8:32Speaker 3: C's dogs were barking outside and their geese wouldn't stop honking. Ebony,
- 8:37Speaker 3: who usually sleeps under the covers, was sitting on my
- 8:40Speaker 3: hip while I laid on my side, and I could
- 8:43Speaker 3: feel her turning her head back and forth like she
- 8:46Speaker 3: was trying to track something outside. I tried tucking her
- 8:50Speaker 3: under the blankets to calm her down, but she kept
- 8:53Speaker 3: returning to her perch on my hip. I have no
- 8:56Speaker 3: idea how long I laid there. I would say at
- 8:59Speaker 3: least forty minutes, when all of a sudden, I heard
- 9:02Speaker 3: EM's voice outside the camper. Anybody in there? Hm, and
- 9:07Speaker 3: what sounded like claws dragged down the side of the camper.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I almost called back to her when I realized Number one,
- 9:18Speaker 3: she and Sea were both fast asleep by now, and
- 9:21Speaker 3: number two em knew I was in there, she wouldn't
- 9:25Speaker 3: ask if anybody was. Suddenly I noticed everything had gone
- 9:30Speaker 3: absolutely silent outside. The dogs and the birds had stopped
- 9:35Speaker 3: carrying on the gusts of wind had even stopped. It
- 9:39Speaker 3: was the kind of silence you hear about in horror stories,
- 9:43Speaker 3: how the woods go mute when something evil is in
- 9:46Speaker 3: the area. Then another thought hit me. Ebony would be
- 9:50Speaker 3: losing her shit and barking at the door if that
- 9:54Speaker 3: had been anything human. She was frozen on my hip, dead, quiet, shaking.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I didn't dare to move, but I was really starting
- 10:04Speaker 3: to have to pee, and I remembered that I hadn't
- 10:07Speaker 3: locked the door. I have no idea how long I
- 10:10Speaker 3: laid there, debating whether I should get up and use
- 10:13Speaker 3: the bathroom and lock the door, but it felt like
- 10:16Speaker 3: an eternity. In reality, I guessed it was maybe ten
- 10:20Speaker 3: fifteen minutes. I thought it may have been a skin
- 10:23Speaker 3: walker at first, but remember they don't mimic the voices
- 10:27Speaker 3: of your loved ones to lure you into the woods.
- 10:30Speaker 3: When to go do? I knew these creatures, demons, whatever
- 10:35Speaker 3: they are, can lure humans out of their abodes if
- 10:39Speaker 3: they make eye contact with you, and everything in me
- 10:42Speaker 3: was screaming to make sure I didn't look outside. I
- 10:45Speaker 3: made doubly sure I didn't look through any cracks in
- 10:48Speaker 3: the curtains as I walked softly to the front of
- 10:51Speaker 3: my camper and very slowly turned the lock, praying and
- 10:56Speaker 3: holding my breath, I made sure to keep my eyes
- 10:59Speaker 3: away from the window as I crawled back in bed
- 11:02Speaker 3: and pulled Ebony close, and she finally stayed under the blankets.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I snuck a peek at my phone for the first
- 11:08Speaker 3: time before I laid down, figuring it had to be
- 11:11Speaker 3: close to three am, the witching hour. It was about
- 11:15Speaker 3: two thirty. As soon as I laid down, the wind
- 11:18Speaker 3: kicked back up and M and C's basset hounds erupted
- 11:22Speaker 3: into howls as they came running down to the camper
- 11:25Speaker 3: and a little ways into the trees, and the geese
- 11:29Speaker 3: started their noise again. I heard the bassets come back
- 11:32Speaker 3: to the camper barking a few more times before they
- 11:35Speaker 3: laid down outside the door to protect me. I didn't
- 11:38Speaker 3: get out of bed again that night. I told EM
- 11:41Speaker 3: and see what had happened The next morning. I think
- 11:43Speaker 3: I was hoping EM would say she had come down
- 11:45Speaker 3: to check on me in Ebony, but she confirmed what
- 11:49Speaker 3: I already knew. They had gone to bed As soon
- 11:51Speaker 3: as I left the house. I said a prayer over
- 11:54Speaker 3: their house, the camper, and all of us The following
- 11:57Speaker 3: night and had an uneventful night, thank God. I also
- 12:01Speaker 3: spoke with another guy who's familiar with the supernatural see
- 12:05Speaker 3: if he knew any more about windigo. I'm not sure
- 12:08Speaker 3: how accurate the information he gave me was or if
- 12:11Speaker 3: it's reliable at all, but when I asked him why
- 12:14Speaker 3: Ebony hadn't made a peep, I had assumed it was
- 12:17Speaker 3: because she was absolutely petrified. He said a windigo can
- 12:21Speaker 3: control animals to keep them from alerting their owners about
- 12:25Speaker 3: its presence. He also told me Number One, they can't
- 12:29Speaker 3: enter houses that aren't made of wood directly from the forest.
- 12:32Speaker 3: They're hunting in tents and campers included because they consist
- 12:36Speaker 3: of man made materials. Two, A lock is useless. They
- 12:41Speaker 3: can unlock and open a door so they can try
- 12:44Speaker 3: to lure you outside. And three they typically stay in
- 12:49Speaker 3: the woods, but they will come into a smaller town
- 12:52Speaker 3: and never into a city. I had never heard of
- 12:55Speaker 3: any of what he told me before, so again I
- 12:58Speaker 3: can't speak for accuracy, but I also have at researched
- 13:01Speaker 3: the claims either. He also advised me never to go
- 13:05Speaker 3: outside to pee at night if I ever go camping,
- 13:08Speaker 3: and to bring a bucket or something to use, and
- 13:11Speaker 3: to make sure that I always close tent flaps and
- 13:13Speaker 3: curtains before falling asleep. He said, if the flaps are
- 13:17Speaker 3: open so you can see outside, the wind to Go
- 13:19Speaker 3: can make eye contact with you and draw you out.
- 13:23Speaker 3: After leaving M and C's to go to my father's
- 13:25Speaker 3: house for a few days, I had the distinct feeling
- 13:28Speaker 3: of being watched when I took Ebony outside after dark.
- 13:32Speaker 3: My father lives three hours away from M and C,
- 13:35Speaker 3: but his house is in the country. I told myself
- 13:38Speaker 3: it was only the fear from the experience and what
- 13:41Speaker 3: I know about the Wind to Go triggering in overactive imagination.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I never heard anything, and I watched Ebanie's behavior very closely,
- 13:51Speaker 3: and she didn't act like she had in the camper.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I'm moving back to that area from Canada and this
- 13:57Speaker 3: experience has been weighing heavily on my mind. I've been
- 14:00Speaker 3: trying to find any information about warding them off, or
- 14:04Speaker 3: if they have a home hunting range like cougars do,
- 14:08Speaker 3: or if they move on from a region. My prayers
- 14:11Speaker 3: did work the second night, so I figure I can
- 14:14Speaker 3: pray over the property. I also have holy water that
- 14:18Speaker 3: I can use. Since the wind to Go is an
- 14:20Speaker 3: evil spirit that possesses people or physically manifests frustratingly, a
- 14:26Speaker 3: majority of what comes up and searches is utter garbage
- 14:29Speaker 3: like Wikipedia. Does anyone know if a windy go stays
- 14:33Speaker 3: in one area? Are my concerns about it coming back
- 14:36Speaker 3: when I get moved into my cabin warranted or am
- 14:40Speaker 3: I worrying excessively? Do you have any tips for warding
- 14:44Speaker 3: them off? Thanks again for any information you can offer.

- 15:04Speaker 1: happen to you? Let us know and get featured on

- 16:55Speaker 1: Now back to the deliciously Frightful Disturbed podcast with your
- 17:00Speaker 1: host Chad.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Up.
- 17:05Speaker 6: Next, we hear from Reddit user al Mala Zone featuring
- 17:09Speaker 6: voice work by Tanya Eb and we have an unexpected visitor.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Okay, this happened in twenty sixteen when I was a
- 17:23Speaker 5: seventeen year old first year college student in film school.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I'm now twenty two. Female name is Julia. I lived
- 17:30Speaker 5: alone in my first ever apartment. It was really small,
- 17:33Speaker 5: but I was really proud of my independence. I never
- 17:35Speaker 5: felt unsafe in this apartment for several reasons. There were
- 17:38Speaker 5: multiple gates in the residents that needed to be opened
- 17:41Speaker 5: through a code. Only the people who lived there knew.
- 17:44Speaker 5: My door had three different locks, and it was right
- 17:46Speaker 5: next to the university, so most people who lived in
- 17:49Speaker 5: the neighborhood were college students. Nothing bad had ever happened
- 17:52Speaker 5: in the neighborhood before. I've always been very careful with
- 17:55Speaker 5: locking the door when I leave my home. I always
- 17:58Speaker 5: checked twice. I have slight OCD. So this one time,
- 18:02Speaker 5: I leave to go to class and lock my door,
- 18:04Speaker 5: but for some reason, I couldn't get the key out
- 18:06Speaker 5: of the lock. It was completely stuck. So I went
- 18:09Speaker 5: to get the caretaker of the building to help me,
- 18:12Speaker 5: but he wasn't there and I was getting late for class,
- 18:14Speaker 5: so I went to class with the key still in
- 18:16Speaker 5: the lock. I took off the keychain first so it's
- 18:20Speaker 5: not too noticeable. When I got home, the caretaker was back,
- 18:23Speaker 5: so he came to help me, and we couldn't get
- 18:25Speaker 5: it out for fifteen minutes until somehow he did. He
- 18:29Speaker 5: told me the lock was damaged, but that I didn't
- 18:31Speaker 5: necessarily need to change it if I only locked it
- 18:33Speaker 5: once instead of twice. I just said okay, and that
- 18:37Speaker 5: was the end of it. I really wasn't worried because
- 18:39Speaker 5: of how safe I felt in this building. Flash forward
- 18:42Speaker 5: two two months later, I was taking out the trash
- 18:45Speaker 5: one night around eleven pm, while on the phone with
- 18:47Speaker 5: my sister, I remember telling her that I was taking
- 18:50Speaker 5: out the trash, then that I would take a shower
- 18:53Speaker 5: afterwards before heading to a party. As I previously said,
- 18:56Speaker 5: I always locked the door, even just to take out
- 18:59Speaker 5: the trash. Because of my lock being damaged, I only
- 19:02Speaker 5: locked at once. When I got back to my apartment,
- 19:05Speaker 5: I found the door unlocked, which immediately alarmed me. So
- 19:09Speaker 5: I went into the apartment and locked the door immediately
- 19:12Speaker 5: with three different types of locks. When you walk into
- 19:16Speaker 5: my apartment, which is just two hundred and fifteen square feet,
- 19:19Speaker 5: you have the main room in front of you and
- 19:20Speaker 5: the bathroom door immediately to your left. I had left
- 19:23Speaker 5: the bathroom door slightly open enough so I could see
- 19:26Speaker 5: a man in my shower turning his back to me. Naturally,
- 19:30Speaker 5: when I saw this, I tried to open the door
- 19:31Speaker 5: and leave as fast as possible, except my main lock
- 19:34Speaker 5: was damaged from two months earlier, and I couldn't open
- 19:37Speaker 5: it no matter how hard I tried. In this moment,
- 19:40Speaker 5: all I could think of was the fact that I
- 19:42Speaker 5: had to leave as fast as possible. I jumped out
- 19:46Speaker 5: the window without really thinking. I figured it was the
- 19:48Speaker 5: only solution, except I lived on the second floor, so
- 19:51Speaker 5: I completely smashed my ankles in the landing. I started
- 19:55Speaker 5: running in whichever way I could, and when I got
- 19:57Speaker 5: a little bit further from the building, I looked back
- 19:59Speaker 5: in a min was there at my window watching me
- 20:02Speaker 5: run away. I thought of two possible outcomes. Either the
- 20:06Speaker 5: man was going to jump and chase me, except I
- 20:08Speaker 5: wouldn't get far with my twisted ankles, where he would
- 20:11Speaker 5: get scared of the height and be locked in my apartment. Thankfully,
- 20:15Speaker 5: he picked uption two. I went to hide in a
- 20:18Speaker 5: bush a little further and called the police, who arrived
- 20:20Speaker 5: in just ten minutes because I lived close to the station.
- 20:23Speaker 5: They pushed my door open, and the man was there
- 20:27Speaker 5: just sitting on my couch holding a kitchen knife, waiting
- 20:30Speaker 5: for me to come back, like he didn't think I
- 20:33Speaker 5: would call the police. They arrested the guy and later
- 20:36Speaker 5: told me he had already been arrested for sexual assault, rape,
- 20:40Speaker 5: attempted kidnapping, and attempted murder. They also told me how
- 20:44Speaker 5: everything had happened. Like I said, it was a very
- 20:46Speaker 5: friendly neighborhood with mostly college students, so he got inside
- 20:50Speaker 5: the building by other people holding the door for him.
- 20:53Speaker 5: He then heard me telling my sister I was going
- 20:55Speaker 5: to take a shower, which was why he was waiting
- 20:57Speaker 5: in the bathroom for me. He crocheted my lock while
- 21:00Speaker 5: I was taking out the trash. He apparently noticed me
- 21:03Speaker 5: on school campus and followed me to my home several
- 21:06Speaker 5: times before succeeding to actually come in. He stayed inside
- 21:10Speaker 5: waiting for me because I had recently changed my phone
- 21:12Speaker 5: and the previous one was still on the table, so
- 21:15Speaker 5: he thought I didn't have a phone with me to
- 21:16Speaker 5: call the police. I don't live there anymore. But after that,
- 21:20Speaker 5: to get into the building, we all needed identification proving
- 21:23Speaker 5: we lived there. Building IDs were created and we had
- 21:27Speaker 5: to scan them every time, and it was the only
- 21:29Speaker 5: way to go inside the building. Nothing bad happened in
- 21:32Speaker 5: the neighborhood after that. It's back to being very peaceful
- 21:36Speaker 5: and friendly.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Are you terrified yet? You will be?
- 21:52Speaker 6: And finally, we have an email submission from d featuring
- 21:56Speaker 6: voice work by Rhiannon Maushall and we star in our
- 22:00Speaker 6: own frightening action movie.
- 22:09Speaker 7: So this happened about seven years ago. It was the
- 22:12Speaker 7: summer before my junior year of college and I was
- 22:14Speaker 7: heading home for the break. My boyfriend of two years
- 22:17Speaker 7: had just broken up with me, and like any other
- 22:20Speaker 7: normal person, I was heartbroken, but I wasn't going to
- 22:23Speaker 7: let that stop me from enjoying my summer. I texted
- 22:26Speaker 7: my best friend Lalla and told her about what happened,
- 22:29Speaker 7: and she suggested I come and visit her in New York,
- 22:31Speaker 7: where she was living at the time. She said it
- 22:34Speaker 7: would be good for me to get out of the
- 22:35Speaker 7: state and get lost in the freedom of being young
- 22:38Speaker 7: and single. We talked about going out to all the
- 22:41Speaker 7: local hot spots and getting our fill of the night
- 22:43Speaker 7: life there, you know, normal college girl stuff. So I said,
- 22:47Speaker 7: what the hell, why not? I purchased a plane ticket,
- 22:51Speaker 7: packed my clothes and essentials into my large hiking bag,
- 22:53Speaker 7: and headed straight to the airport. My friend had told
- 22:56Speaker 7: me before I boarded that her boss needed her to
- 22:59Speaker 7: work and early shift, but she would be off an
- 23:01Speaker 7: hour after I landed. That's when she told me I'd
- 23:04Speaker 7: have to take the subway then hail a cab to
- 23:06Speaker 7: the apartment. I had taken the subway before, so this
- 23:09Speaker 7: didn't bother me one bit. All I cared about was
- 23:11Speaker 7: forgetting about that jerk of an X and having some
- 23:14Speaker 7: time with my best friend. The flight was boring and uneventful,
- 23:18Speaker 7: except for some of the movies the plane played, like
- 23:21Speaker 7: John Wick and James Bond. I'm an action movie junkie,
- 23:24Speaker 7: so this was a treat for me, especially when I
- 23:27Speaker 7: got to watch the subway chase scenes, you know, the
- 23:29Speaker 7: ones where the good guy is being chased in and
- 23:31Speaker 7: out of the station and through the terminals. Watching those
- 23:35Speaker 7: scenes never made me nervous about taking the subway. After all,
- 23:39Speaker 7: they were just over dramatized Hollywood movies to begin with.
- 23:42Speaker 7: It's not like that could really happen in real life.
- 23:46Speaker 7: By the time I landed, it was about ten am.
- 23:49Speaker 7: I shuffled off the plane and quickly moved to the
- 23:51Speaker 7: baggage claim. I found my hiking bag and slung it
- 23:54Speaker 7: over my shoulders, then proceeded to the nearest subway station,
- 23:57Speaker 7: which was about a block away. As I walked, I
- 24:00Speaker 7: texted my friend that I had landed, and she shot
- 24:03Speaker 7: back at quick text with her address and a funny
- 24:05Speaker 7: message saying I can't wait to see you, so don't
- 24:08Speaker 7: get abducted. I chuckled as I looked at my phone
- 24:11Speaker 7: and continued walking. Typical la la humor, I thought to myself.
- 24:16Speaker 7: I went down the steps to the subway terminal and
- 24:18Speaker 7: headed straight to the map, all the while feeling a
- 24:21Speaker 7: bit uneasy as I walked. After locating it, I put
- 24:24Speaker 7: my phone in my bag and waited for the right
- 24:26Speaker 7: subway car to come. As I waited, the feeling of
- 24:30Speaker 7: uneasiness came over me again. I looked up to my
- 24:33Speaker 7: right and saw two tall, well built men staring at me.
- 24:37Speaker 7: They kept eyeing me up and down and giving me
- 24:40Speaker 7: an up to no good smile while laughing about God
- 24:43Speaker 7: knows what to themselves. I don't know what they were
- 24:46Speaker 7: looking at to make them act that way. A pair
- 24:48Speaker 7: of skinny jeans Doc Martin's and a cropped band T
- 24:51Speaker 7: shirt wasn't exactly what I would call a seductive or
- 24:54Speaker 7: enticing outfit, so I faced forward and tried to pay
- 24:58Speaker 7: them no mind. Don't get the prick the satisfaction, I
- 25:01Speaker 7: told myself over and over again. But no matter what,
- 25:05Speaker 7: the feeling crept up inside of me more and more
- 25:07Speaker 7: as I felt my heart palpitating faster. When the car
- 25:11Speaker 7: finally pulled up, I hurried on inside, looking for a
- 25:14Speaker 7: seat that was around a crowd of people It wasn't
- 25:16Speaker 7: till I was seated and started to relax that I
- 25:19Speaker 7: noticed that two men had boarded as well. Maybe they're
- 25:22Speaker 7: headed in the same direction as me, I thought, while
- 25:24Speaker 7: trying to calm my nerves. People have to get around
- 25:28Speaker 7: this place somehow, and taking the subway isn't uncommon, but
- 25:32Speaker 7: something about them still made me feel uneasy. To quell
- 25:35Speaker 7: my nerves, I decided to move up to the next car.
- 25:38Speaker 7: As I did, I glanced over my shoulder and I
- 25:41Speaker 7: saw the men following me. I darted my gaze forward,
- 25:44Speaker 7: pretending I didn't see them, all the while willing myself
- 25:47Speaker 7: to press onward. But I couldn't help it. I had
- 25:51Speaker 7: to look back again, and boy, am I glad I did,
- 25:54Speaker 7: because when I turned to look, I saw that the
- 25:56Speaker 7: two men had gotten closer than before. This made me
- 25:59Speaker 7: pick up my My walk started to become a jog,
- 26:02Speaker 7: and I could feel my heart racing as my bag
- 26:05Speaker 7: began hitting my back harder while I pushed through the
- 26:08Speaker 7: crowd of people. But they were still too close for comfort.
- 26:12Speaker 7: I could feel the subway starting to slow down to
- 26:14Speaker 7: with stop, and I was closing in on the door,
- 26:17Speaker 7: even though it wasn't my stop. I had to get off.
- 26:20Speaker 7: I stood in front of the door confidently, and like
- 26:23Speaker 7: any action movie protagonist would, I looked them dead in
- 26:26Speaker 7: the eye, and the moment the doors opened, I made
- 26:29Speaker 7: a mad dash out the doors and into the terminal.
- 26:32Speaker 7: I could hear them shouting get her and don't let
- 26:35Speaker 7: her escape, their words stinging. As I realized the gravity
- 26:39Speaker 7: of my situation, I ran as fast as I could,
- 26:42Speaker 7: not daring to stop. But I stole a glance to
- 26:45Speaker 7: see if they were still behind me, and sure enough
- 26:47Speaker 7: they were. My heart almost fell out of my chest
- 26:51Speaker 7: as I realized how close they'd gotten. But in that moment,
- 26:54Speaker 7: my adrenaline outweighed my fear and I kept running.
- 26:57Speaker 5: I pushed past people.
- 26:59Speaker 7: Occasionally knocking them down and hearing them cursing at me.
- 27:02Speaker 7: But I didn't care about being polite. No, not now.
- 27:06Speaker 7: But every time I look back, I could see that
- 27:08Speaker 7: the men were still hot on my trail. Fuck, I
- 27:11Speaker 7: cursed to myself, I have to lose them. I stealed
- 27:15Speaker 7: my gaze forward and noticed that there was a staircase
- 27:17Speaker 7: a few feet ahead. I sprinted faster and faster towards it.
- 27:21Speaker 7: Now most people would just run down them, but I'm
- 27:25Speaker 7: not most people, and after watching some action movies on
- 27:28Speaker 7: the plane, I thought it was wise to slide down
- 27:30Speaker 7: the railing like I was Keanu Reeves or something. It
- 27:33Speaker 7: was working until my back pocket snagged on a jagged
- 27:36Speaker 7: edge and I was sent toppling down the rest of
- 27:38Speaker 7: the stairs. I had landed on my shoulder at the
- 27:41Speaker 7: bottom and thought for sure I had dislocated it. The
- 27:45Speaker 7: pain was excruciating, but I could hear their footsteps, and
- 27:48Speaker 7: I knew I had no time to think about it
- 27:50Speaker 7: any further. And adrenaline is a wonderful thing. So I
- 27:54Speaker 7: stood up quickly and gripped my hand around my shoulder
- 27:57Speaker 7: and hauled ass until I saw a flight of stairs
- 28:00Speaker 7: that led out to the street. I skidded to a
- 28:03Speaker 7: halt and dashed to the top of them. As if
- 28:06Speaker 7: by fate, I ran directly into a police officer. I
- 28:10Speaker 7: barreled into him, taking both of us to the ground.
- 28:13Speaker 7: I didn't even get off him before I started to
- 28:15Speaker 7: shout incoherently about what was happening. I kept trying to
- 28:18Speaker 7: explain that two men had been chasing me, but when
- 28:21Speaker 7: I looked back and pointed, they were gone. I'm not crazy,
- 28:25Speaker 7: I shouted at him. They were right behind me. I
- 28:28Speaker 7: repeatedly shouted this through labored breaths till the officer calmed
- 28:32Speaker 7: me down. He escorted me to his police car and
- 28:35Speaker 7: took me to the station, where I called my friend
- 28:37Speaker 7: and had her meet me there. I gave them my
- 28:40Speaker 7: statement and they released me. Lalla and I took a
- 28:42Speaker 7: trip to the er, where I was thankful to hear
- 28:45Speaker 7: I hadn't done any serious damage to my body minus
- 28:48Speaker 7: a few cuts and bruises. The doctors patched me up
- 28:51Speaker 7: and sent me on my way. The whole ride back
- 28:54Speaker 7: to her place, my mind was replaying the events. By
- 28:57Speaker 7: the time we got there, I collapsed on the couch
- 28:59Speaker 7: and thanked my lucky stars that I was still alive.
- 29:02Speaker 7: Since then, I haven't ridden the subway. I would rather
- 29:06Speaker 7: walk miles on end if it means avoiding my own
- 29:09Speaker 7: action movie again.
