Correct. how we accidentally became adults. Yes. Today is not an adult type day with our setup and our chords and everything. So But here we are. We made it. We made it. We're recording. Do you feel like you have an internal age? Like, Rachel Sauter: Episode three. Here we are. Back at it. Back at it. a topic that feels really close to home today, because I feel like we were children setting up for this. Correct. how we accidentally became adults. Yes. Today was not an adult type day with our setup and our cord and everything. So But here we are. And we made recording. Do you feel like you have an internal age? Like, Morgan McFerson: How old do you feel? Hmm. to be honest, I think I feel a little younger than I'm actually am. For a really, really long time my internal age was twenty four. you had like a specific number. Yeah. It's changed. Now it's probably like thirty two, but I'm forty two. Okay. I'm gonna be forty in January. So I think I feel like I'm maybe, you know, in my thirties. Yeah. Mid th early thirties. Right, right. Rachel Sauter: How old do you feel? Mm. to be honest, I think I feel a little younger than I actually am. For a really, really long time my internal age was twenty four. you had like a specific number. Yeah. It's changed. Now it's probably like thirty two, but I'm forty two. Okay. I'm gonna be forty in January. So I feel like I'm maybe, you know, in my thirties. Yeah. Mid th early thirties. Right, right. Morgan McFerson: I mean it's just a number, right? so let's start by asking just a couple questions. Yes. Okay. I'll start with asking you a question. Uh-huh. So what is the most adult thing that you've done maybe this week or this past month, that made you think, how did I end up here? Everything? I feel like that every day. Rachel Sauter: I mean it's just a number, let's start by asking just a couple of questions. Yes. Okay. I'll start with asking you a question. Uh-huh. So what is the most adult thing that you've done maybe this week or this past month that made you think how did I end up here? Everything? I feel like that every day. Morgan McFerson: I feel like just as business owners, we juggle so many things. So there'll be days where I like maybe I get up in the morning and I'm going through emails and there's like things to my bookkeeper and then there's emails to vendors and then pay doing payroll and then I'm working a store shift and then I'm like raising children and I'm like, When did this all happen? And should I really be in charge? Because I don't even have any gas in my car. Rachel Sauter: I feel like just as business owners, we juggle so many things. So there will be like days where I like maybe I get up in the morning and I'm going through emails and there's like things to my bookkeeper and then there's emails to vendors and I'm paying doing payroll and working at Storeship and then I'm like raising children and I'm like, When did this all happen? And should I really be in charge? Because I don't even have any gas in my car. Morgan McFerson: Yeah. Rachel Sauter: Yeah. Morgan McFerson: Payroll's a thing. Payroll is probably a thing that makes you be like, I'm in charge of other people's Right. You can't miss it. You better not miss the payroll. Don't forget about it. No, no, people don't want that. No. Keeps coming back around. I think there's a misconception, maybe when you're a kid, that you think your parents have and adults have it all together. And I think that's just not it's just not true. And nobody's teaching you. No. You are learning on the fly. Rachel Sauter: Payroll's a thing. Payroll is probably a thing that makes you be like, I'm in charge of other people's Right, right. You can't miss it. You better not miss the payroll. Deadline No no people don't want that. Keeps coming back around. I think there's a misconception. Maybe when you're a kid that you think your parents have and adults have it all together. And I think that's just not it's just not true. And nobody's teaching you? No. You are learning on the fly. Do Morgan McFerson: At least I am. Rachel Sauter: you remember when we did the photo shoot for the podcast and I my debit card had been compromised that morning, so I didn't have any form of payment to pay anybody anything. Yeah. And I didn't have any gas in my car. I made it here barely. Yeah. And we were like, we have a podcast. And I was like, people do not know that Rachel owns a business and is in charge of payroll. Morgan McFerson: Most of days. Do you remember when we did the photo shoot for the podcast? And I my debit card had been compromised that morning. So I didn't have any form of payment to pay anybody anything. Yep. And I didn't have any gangs in my car. I made it here barely. Yep. And we were like, we have a podcast. And I was like, people do not know Rachel owns a business. Behind the scene. I love that. A behind the scenes snippet as to our real life. Yes. It's always not glamorous. Rachel Sauter: A behind the scenes snippet. A snippet. Yes. Yeah. It's not glamorous. Morgan McFerson: What is something you thought adults just automatically knew how to do? Rachel Sauter: What is something you thought adults just automatically knew how to do? Taxes? Still something I wonder how people do. To this day. I'm like, every time that comes back around, you need to pay either business taxes or like personal taxes. I'm like, what is where do I go? What do I do? Who do I start with? I know. taxes. I don't know. I always felt like when I do that. I would say that and also Morgan McFerson: Taxes. That is something. Still something, I wonder. I don't do. To this day. I'm like, every time that comes back around and you have to pay either business taxes or like personal taxes, I'm like, what is where do I go? What do I do? Who do I start with? I know. taxes. I don't know. I always felt like people want to do that. I would say that and also maybe like we know, when I bought my house, when my husband and I bought our house, that was such a process. I didn't know. Rachel Sauter: Maybe like we know, when I bought my house, when my husband bought our house, that was such a process. I didn't nobody told me what to do there. Yeah. I almost I think it was like sheet white when we bought our most recent house when we were like closing in the office. My sister in law is my real estate agent. She was like, Are you okay? I was like, I don't know if I am it's like the biggest purchase you've ever made in your life. Yeah, yeah. And actually recently we were looking for a new car. Mm-hmm. 'cause we've had a car switcheroo in our house and even just like going Morgan McFerson: Nobody told me what to do there. Yeah. I know that I think I like she white about our most recent house when we were like closing in the office. My sister in law is my real estate agent. She like, Are you okay? I was like, I don't know if I am it's like the biggest purchase you've ever made in your life. Yeah. Yeah. And actually recently we were looking for a new car. Mm-hmm. because we've had a car switcheroo in our house. And even just like going to the car lots and looking for cars. it was so I just hate doing stuff like that. Rachel Sauter: Yeah. I'm looking for cars. So I just hate doing stuff like that. I know. Now you can just order a car like from like a vending machine. I feel like maybe that's how you should do it. Yes, and it drops off at your house. Yeah. It's a holy world. It's the future. Yeah. So what's something maybe that teenaged Rachel would be shocked that you care about now? Hmm. She'd be shocked. Morgan McFerson: I know. Now you can just order a car like from like a vending machine. I feel like maybe that's how you should do it. Yes. And it drops it off at your house. Yeah. It's a Pokemon world. It's a future. Yeah. So what's something maybe that teenaged Rachel would be shocked that you care about now? Should be shocked that I care about getting my protein. Okay. Rachel Sauter: that I care about getting my protein. Because I was a vegetarian for Morgan McFerson: Because was a vegetarian for I mean like twenty years from the time I was a teenager until I was about I mean in my late thirties. Yes. And I mean I do wonder if we're getting a little bit like blasted with it being a little crazy. Like a protein thing. but I do care about it and I think she would be shocked. Yes. You know? That's such a good one. Yeah. Can I tell you what one is for me? Please. The I know I can't drink like water. Rachel Sauter: I mean like twenty years from the time I was a teenager until I was about I mean in my late thirties. Yes. And I mean I do wonder if we're getting a little bit like blasted with it being a little crazy with the protein thing. but I do care about it and I think she would be shocked. Yes. You know? That's such a good one. Yep. Can I tell you a one for me? Please. The I don't know, I can't drink like water. Morgan McFerson: too late into the evening. Like I don't want to and I'm also with June. I'm like, no, everybody's me everybody's going to the bathroom in the middle of night. I don't want to do that. So I'm like, Teenage Me is like having a cocktail at ten o'clock. She's a party animal. She's having fun. Rachel Sauter: Too late into the evening. Like I don't wanna and I'm also Jim. Like, no, everybody's me everybody's going to the bathroom and I'll let me I don't wanna do that. So Teenage me is like having a cocktail at seven o'clock. She's a party animal. She's having fun. Morgan McFerson: So yeah, adult me is like no liquids after a certain time. Yes. That's where that's very responsible. So maybe a little bit about how we're Rachel Sauter: Yeah, adult means like no liquids after a certain time. Yeah. That's res that's very responsible. So maybe a little bit about how we're here. How we got here with our not only are we adults that don't know what we're doing, we're adults that own businesses. Definitely what are we doing? How are you getting here? Yeah, and we haven't really shared much about our businesses that we do. I own Leopard Boutique, it's a women's clothing boutique. Morgan McFerson: hear how we got here with our not only are we adults that don't know what we're doing we're adults that own businesses. Definitely. What are we doing? How did we get here? Yeah, and we haven't really shared much about our businesses and what we do. yeah. I own Leopard Boutique. It's a women's clothing boutique Rachel Sauter: It's in Webster Groves, which is a cute little area. Amazing store. thank you. I was gonna say amazing neighborhoods. It is an amazing store also. and we are getting ready to celebrate Morgan McFerson: in Webster Groves, which is a cute little area. It's an amazing store. thank you. It's just the amazing neighborhood, but it is an amazing store also. and we are getting ready to celebrate Rachel Sauter: 14 years. Which is quite the fee, Rachel. That's incredible. Most small businesses don't make it that far. That's that's true, and it is hard. but it is incredible. And actually birthdays and anniversaries like that also make you feel like an adult. Cause I'm like, I have had this store for 14 years. Yeah. and I I do love it. Morgan McFerson: 14 years. Which is quite the feat, Rachel. That's incredible. Most small businesses don't make it that far. That's that's true. And it is hard. yeah, but it is incredible. And actually, birthdays and anniversaries like that also make you feel like an adult. Because I'm like, I've had this for for 14 years. Yeah. and I I do love it. And Rachel Sauter: And was something I kind of always wanted to do even when I was a little kid. I used to play store. Morgan McFerson: it was something I kind of always wanted to do, even when I was a little kid. I used to play store. Rachel Sauter: Every game I played imaginary was like some version of a store. Like my pantry would be a little grocery store or the art supplies would be little art supply store. Yeah. So I think I had kind of an entrepreneurial attitude. Well, you've always been into fashion. Fashion. Always. I've loved retail. Yeah. So it just kind of happened and it's it's great. I have a great team of people. Morgan McFerson: Every game I played Imaginary like some version of a store. Like my pantry would be a little grocery store or the art supplies would be a little art supply store. Yeah. So I think I had kind of an entrepreneurial attitude. Well, and you've always been into fashion. Fashion. Always. I loved retail. Yeah. So it just kind of happened and it's it's great. I have a great team of people and it's exciting. It's always an adventure. Did you ever pick yourself owning a business? Yeah. Rachel Sauter: And it's exciting. It's always an adventure. Did you ever pick yourself already in a business? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, especially working in retail, as we talked about, we worked in retail together. I worked in retail for a long time and really learned the back end of it, the ins and outs, and just kind of knew I wanted to do it for myself and in my own way. Yeah. and kind of create a work Morgan McFerson: Yeah. I mean, especially working in retail as we talked about, we worked in retail together. I worked in retail for a long time and really learned the back end of it and the ins and outs and just kind of knew I wanted to do it for myself and in my own way. Yeah. and kind of create a work, a positive work environment for the women that work for me. I wanted it to be fun. I want it to be an experience for my shoppers. I want to build confidence in women. and we do that through a really personalized styling experience in our store. Rachel Sauter: a positive work environment for the women that work for me. I wanted it to be fun. I want it to be an experience for my shoppers. I want to build confidence in women. and we do that through a really personalized styling experience or store. I think it's so fun. Thank you. I love that all anybody in your garbage store loves it. Thank you. So it's thank you. Morgan McFerson: It's so fun. We l I love going there. All anybody I know that's ever been to your store loves it, loves you. So it's very cool. Rachel Sauter: Tell a little bit about your company. Yeah, so me. So my company is called Unorganized Life, and I am a professional organizer. I have always had that in my blood. I think from a young age, I was always organizing my room, rearranging things, you know, holding my clothes very particular. Morgan McFerson: Yeah, so me, so my company is called Amorganized Life and I am a professional organizer. I have always had that in my blood. I think from a young age I was always organizing my room, rearranging things, you know, folding my clothes very particular. Rachel Sauter: so it was just sort of a natural thing that I wanted to do. Also growing up, I've helped friends and family and you know little. Morgan McFerson: So it was just sort of a natural thing that I wanted to do. Also growing up, I've helped friends and family, you know, little Rachel Sauter: projects here and there, like my sister with her closet. You know, I've always just enjoyed doing that. And so after I had my daughter, I knew I wanted something that was mine that I could kind of control and also something that I thought is if I'm gonna leave Morgan McFerson: here and there, like my sister with her closet. You know, I've always just enjoyed doing that. And so after I had my daughter, I knew I wanted something that was mine that I could kind of control and also something that I thought is if I'm gonna leave her. Rachel Sauter: her, I need to love what I'm doing. For sure. Really important to me. Yeah. And so you know, with a lot of Morgan McFerson: I need to love what I'm doing. That was really important to me. And so you know, with a lot of thought and kind of like boldness, I'm like, I guess I'm gonna start this and just see what happens. And I've felt really blessed because I am the in-home organizer at the the container store. Yeah, which is like big deal. Which is cool. So that was unexpected. a little like kind of imposter syndrome with that because I'm like Rachel Sauter: thought and kind of like boldness. I'm like, I guess I'm gonna start this and just see what happens. And I've felt really blessed because I am the in home organizer for the the container store. Yeah, which is like big deal. Which is cool. So I think was unexpected. a little like kind of imposter syndrome with that because I'm like, am I good enough to have like that be part of you know what I mean? I think that happens in absolutely summer too. Like if again am I adult enough to Morgan McFerson: Am I good enough to have like that be part of you know what I mean? I think that that happens in as a business owner too. You're like, again, am I adult enough to have right? Yeah, yeah. but it's been really fun. And you know, I think every day is different, which is cool. Every project I work on is different. I love helping people create like calm in their my taglines, calm spaces because like creating calmness in your home and in your environment Rachel Sauter: have right responsible. Yeah, yeah. but it's been really fun and you know, I think every day is different, which is cool. Every project I work on is different. I love helping people create like calm in their my tablines calm spaces because like creating calmness in your home and in your environment the most special place you have is your home. home and Morgan McFerson: the most special place you have is your home home and you know be able to relax and love your space. Yeah. I think women are age, moms, business owners, working women, whatever it may be, it's hard. It can feel overwhelming to even organize. Like I can like see areas that need help. Like the junk drawers and stuff, but it's like too much. So having having someone that comes and helps even with little things, I think is like huge. Yeah. And sometimes it's like you just need a fresh Rachel Sauter: you know, relax and feel like in the calm space. Yeah. I think women our age, moms, business owners, working women, whatever it may be, it's hard, it can feel overwhelming to even organize. Like I can like see areas that need help, like the junk drawers and stuff, but it's like too much. So having having someone that comes and helps even just with little things, I think is like huge. Yeah, and sometimes it's like you just need a fresh perspective on a snake or fresh eyes to to think like, I didn't think about putting a storage shelf there or something like that. Morgan McFerson: perspective on a space or fresh eyes to to think like, I didn't think about putting a storage shelf there or something like that. Rachel Sauter: Yeah, you know and I love doing that kind of like getting creative with spaces is really one of my favorite things. what do you feel like was the actual moment when you felt like you were like you became a business? Mm-hmm. Like I have your business became a business, you know. Yes, yes. Morgan McFerson: You know? And I love doing that kind of like getting creative with spaces is really one of my favorite things. What do you feel like was the actual moment when you felt like you were like you became a business. Mm-hmm. Like your business became a business, you know? Like it's yes it happened. Rachel Sauter: I did all the things that you're supposed to do. My husband was in law school, I was working retail and I wrote a business plan. Morgan McFerson: I did all the things that you're supposed to do. My husband was in law school. I was working retail and I wrote a business plan, Rachel Sauter: which was his encouragement. It was hard to do that. No business okay. I do I went to school for fashion for a little bit, fashion marketing and management, but working in retail was really where I got my yes skills, I think. And then writing the business exactly in the field. Yes. I think writing the business plane was huge just from a number perspective and just Morgan McFerson: which was his encouragement. Did you go to school for for no business? Okay. No, for fashioning. Okay. I do I went to school for fashion for a little bit, fashion marketing, and management. But working in retail was really where I got my yes skills, I think. And then writing fields in the field. Yes. I think writing the business plan was huge just from a number perspective and just Is this even a realistic thing to do? But essentially I wrote that while he was finishing up law school. I was managing a boutique and we moved back to St. Louis and rented a space. And I we figured out a way, we took a loan, we figured out a way to sort of pay me while I got things ready before the store opened. Yeah. Which was a really weird feeling. It was a time where I I was just figuring out how I was gonna open the store. We were ordering I was ordering clothes. I went to LA to pick up clothes for the store. They were arriving at our house. We were getting the space ready. Rachel Sauter: Is this even a realistic thing to do? But essentially I wrote that while he was finishing up law school. I was managing a boutique and we moved back to St. Louis and rented a space. And I we figured out a way, we took a loan, we figured out a way to sort of pay me while I got things ready before the store opened. Yeah. Which was a really weird feeling. So it was a time where I I was just figuring out how I was gonna open the store. We were ordering, I was ordering clothes. I went to LA to pick up clothes for the store. They were arriving at our house. We were getting the space ready. If you've been Morgan McFerson: You've been to my store. If you've looked it up, we have this huge chandelier. The chandelier came in like a million different boxes. I had no idea that's how it would be delivered. So I spent like 12 hours putting this thing together. my gosh. And I remember getting the store ready. It was probably about a month that we gave me for the build out and to get everything prepared. It was all ready and priced and the systems all in place. Yeah. And I remember it was so much work, long, long days. Yeah. And I remember the day before we open and everything is set up. Rachel Sauter: My store, if you've looked it up, we have this huge chandelier. The chandelier came in like a million different boxes. I had no idea that's how it would be delivered. So I spent like 12 hours putting this thing together. And I remember getting the store ready. It was probably about a month that we gave me for the build-out and to get everything prepared and the clothes all ready and priced and the systems all in place. Yeah. And I remember it was so much work, long, long days. Yeah. And I remember the day before we opened and everything is set up. I was like, what if nobody comes? And it was like terrifying. Sure. And I still remember my first customer. and it wasn't someone I knew. It wasn't a friend or a family member. It was just Margot Vashan. Shout out to Margot. and a lot of people came. People came. And I think Morgan McFerson: I was like, what if nobody comes? And it was like terrifying. Sure. And I still remember my first customer. and it wasn't someone I knew. It wasn't a friend or a family member. It was just Margot Vishon. Shout out to Margot. and a lot of people came. People came and I think we I just cried to Rachel Sauter: we j I just cried to focus on what I wanted the boutique to feel like and what I wanted it to be for my customers. Mm-hmm and it grew. But I think that day opening the door and getting support from people that weren't just doing it for me was really, really cool. Yeah. That's Morgan McFerson: focused on what I wanted the boutique to feel like and what I wanted it to be for my customers. And it grew. But I think that day opening the door and getting support from people that weren't just doing it for me. Yeah. It was really, really cool. That's so cool. That's awesome. And 14 years later, here we are. Here you are. I think for me, the first time I felt like my business was a business was on like my first client. Right. That I had. And this was a client that was a referral from another friend. And Rachel Sauter: 14 years later. Here we are. Here you I think for me, the first time I got like my business was a business was on like my first client that I had. And this was a client that was a referral from another friend. And this woman had recently put her husband into like assistive care. And she had been taking care of him for I think like eight years. And so she needed a lot of help in her home. Morgan McFerson: This woman had recently put her husband into like assisted care. And she had been taking care of him for I think like eight years. And so she needed a lot of help in her home. And I remember like helping her through stuff. And I could just see like what an emotional, like sort of heaviness it was in her. Yeah. It was the first time I realized like that's what it like I wanted this to be. Not just of course I love to come in and make a beautiful pantry or beautiful closet. Those are so fun. Rachel Sauter: And I remember like helping her through stuff and I could just see like what an emotional like sort of heaviness it was on her. Yeah. It was the first time I realized like that's what it like I wanted this to be. Not just of course I love to come in and make a beautiful pantry or beautiful closet because are so fun, but like seeing sort of the relief that it brings people and like that she was relying on me to help her with that. She was like, I just need help. I don't even know where to start. And so I think the that realizing that could have like such an impact on Morgan McFerson: But like seeing sort of the relief that it brings people and like that she was relying on me to help her with that. She was like, I just need help. I don't even know where to start. And so I think the that realizing I could have like such an impact on somebody Rachel Sauter: Yes. Yes. Was the first time I thought, okay, this is, you know something. This is something. And I think in a world the world that we live in right now, especially all the AI and all of the things, I think people really are craving a connection with people. Yeah. And I Morgan McFerson: was the first time I thought, okay, this is you know something. This is something. And I think in a world the world that we live in right now, especially all the AI and all of the things, I think people really are craving a connection with people. Yeah. And I Rachel Sauter: occasionally will have a moment where I'm like, what am I why am I not doing something more meaningful with my life? Like I should be doing something bigger. And then I'll have a really impactful conversation or experience with a customer. And it's like it's more than selling clothes. It's more than you organizing something for someone. It's Morgan McFerson: occasionally we'll have a moment where I'm like, what am I why am I not doing something more meaningful with my life? Like I should be doing something bigger. And then I'll have a really impactful conversation or experience with a customer. And it's like it's more than selling clothes. It's more than you organizing something for someone. It's connection, human connection. And I think that that's such an important thing. Yeah. I feel very lucky that I get to have that in like day to day. And I think both of us probably deal with people who maybe are not feeling like good. Like for me it's like Rachel Sauter: Connection, human connection. And I think that that's such an important thing. Yeah. I feel very lucky that I get to have that in my like day to day. And I think both of us probably deal with people who maybe are not feeling like good. Like for me, it's like somebody's not blank good in their space. Yeah. Yeah. And it's like just about how can I help you and make you feel different and better. those are things that I think we need more of. Yes. In the world. Morgan McFerson: Somebody's not feeling good in their space. Maybe for you, it's somebody not feeling good in their body, maybe. Yeah. And it's like just about how can I help you and make you feel different and better? those are things that I think we need more of. Yes. In the world Rachel Sauter: what is something not glamorous that you did for your business recently. God Morgan McFerson: What is something not glamorous that you did for your business recently? God. Well sometimes sometimes the actual work is not glamorous. Somebody's, you know, I've seen some things. I've seen some things. I'm sure. but I'm always judgment free, but I've seen some things. I think for me, it's just like schlepping bins and trash and Rachel Sauter: is sometimes the actual work is not glamorous. Somebody's, you know, I've seen some things. I've seen some things. I'm sure. but I'm always judgment free, but I've seen some things. I think for me it's just like schlapping bins and trash and Morgan McFerson: donations and things like that. Yeah. but that's a big part of it because if somebody's going through their, let's just say, let's just say pantry for a Rachel Sauter: donations and things like that. Yeah. that's a big part of it because if somebody's going through their let's just say let's just say pantry for whatever. If somebody's going to their pantry, there's lot of expired things or whatever and you just want to get it out. Part of it is like it has to actually get out of your space. So I try to really make that convenient for a client to be like it's gotta go. Like let's put it in my car. Right. You know, or else people have a tendency to be like let me see if my aunt wants this. I'm like, it's gotta go. Right. Right. We make the decision. Let's cut the cut the cord here. Yeah. So I think just like Morgan McFerson: Whatever. Someone's going through a pantry, there's lot of expired things or whatever, and you just want to get it out. Part of it is like it has to actually get out of your space. So I try to really make that convenient for a client to be like, it's gotta go. Like, let's put it my car. Right. You know, or else people have a tendency to be like, Let me see if my aunt wants this. I'm like, it's gotta go. Let's go. Right, we make a decision. Let's cut cut the cord here. Yeah. So I think just like Rachel Sauter: Dealing with that sort of not very glamorous. what about you? I feel like yours, a lot of yours is glamorous. I think that's what people Morgan McFerson: dealing with that stuff's not very glamorous. what about you? I feel like yours, a lot of yours is glamorous. I think that's what people Rachel Sauter: think, but I mean and it I mean, yes, they're great outfits, cute fun clothes, being in a pretty boutique. But I mean, I think a small business owner of any type is wearing so many hats. So I mean I'm when I'm there, I'm cleaning the I'm cleaning the toilets at home cleaning the toilets of my business. Back to that toilets. Morgan McFerson: think, but I mean and it I mean, yes, they're great outfits, cute fun clothes, being in a pretty boutique. But I mean, I think a small business owner of any type is wearing so many hats. I mean I'm when I'm there I'm cleaning the cleaning the toilets at home. I'm cleaning the toilets of my business back to the toilets. I'm just back to the toilets. the paperwork, the invoicing, the yeah all the back office stuff that's just kind of always there in the background. Yeah. Rachel Sauter: paperwork, the invoicing, the yeah, all the back office stuff that's just kind of always there in the background. Yeah. there's a lot. There's a lot. And then I mean breaking down boxes, unpacking close steaming clothes. Morgan McFerson: there's a lot. There's a lot. Yeah. And I mean breaking down boxes, unpacking clothes, steaming clothes. Do you feel like you actually feel like a business owner? Like day to day, are like, yeah, I'm Rachel Sauter: do you feel like you actually feel like a business owner? Like day to day, are you like, yeah? Morgan McFerson: a business owner? I feel like that's so Rachel Sauter: Business owner. I feel like that's so day to day. Like some days yes. Yeah. And some days no. I mean just I think it just you're but I think that's life, right? Like you're gonna have like the days where I didn't have a debit card or any gas bar. And then you're gonna have days where I'm getting ready to do a fashion show thing where I'm gonna have some of our clothes are gonna be in a fashion show and I get to like narrate. Like that feels like a a boss babe thing. Yeah. Morgan McFerson: day to day, like some days yes. Yeah. And some days no. Mm-hmm. I mean just I think it just you're but I think that's life, right? Like you're gonna have like the days where I didn't have a debit card or any gas car. And then you're gonna have days I'm getting ready to do a fashion show thing where I'm gonna have some of our clothes are going to be in a fashion show and I get to like narrate. Like that feels like a a boss babe thing. Yes. Rachel Sauter: and like going on buying trips and talking to other business owners. Morgan McFerson: And like going on buying trips and talking to other business owners, like I that like lights me up and I feel alive just talking to other people that kind of understand that part of the business. So yeah, there are days that I feel like a total boss baby and days when I don't. And I think Rachel Sauter: like I that like lights me up and I feel alive just talking to other people that kind of understand that part of the business. So yeah there are days that I feel like a total boss they've been days where I don't. And I think that's what this podcast is all about? Yeah. Yeah. And there are days when there's times when I'm like, I am so busy. There's no much and w in a project based, service based, you know, industry like me. Yeah. It can vary, it can go up and down. So there's some days I'm Morgan McFerson: that's what this podcast is all about. Yeah. Yeah. And there are days when there's times where I'm like, I am so busy. There's so much and w in a project based, service based, you know, industry like me, it can vary, it can go up and down. So there's some days I'm like, Rachel Sauter: like, I'm so busy, man, you know, trying to just like send invoices and do the thing and get the products. And then there's sometimes when I'm like Morgan McFerson: I'm so busy. man, you know, trying to just like send in voices and do the thing, get the products. And then there's sometimes when I'm like, nobody cares. We're going out of business. I shut this place down. those are moments where I'm like, I'm not a real business owner. You know? yeah. Those ups and downs are sure. There's a silly little like thing going around that says like for business owners business owners, it's like Monday. Rachel Sauter: Nobody cares. We're going out of business. I shut this place down. those are moments where I'm like, I'm not a real business owner. You know, yeah, I feel like ups and downs for sure. There's a silly little like thing going around that says like for business owners business owners, it's like Monday. Things are going so well. Tuesday, Morgan McFerson: Things are going so well. Tuesday. Rachel Sauter: fire everybody. Wednesday, order more stuff. Thursday, shut her down. I think, a commonality for that. Morgan McFerson: Fire everybody Wednesday. Order more stuff. Thursday. Shut her down. I think, a commonality. Yeah. For that that whole thing. Yeah. And for me too, it's every project's so different. So sometimes I'm in somebody's home and there's like a tricky thing. And I just have to be honest and to be like, let's work it through this together. Because I sometimes don't know the answers all the time. Or I don't know. Like I think that this might this shelf might fit. Rachel Sauter: That whole thing. Yeah, and for me too, it's every project's so different. So sometimes I'm in somebody's home and there's like a tricky thing. And I just have to be honest and to be like, let's work through this together because I sometimes don't know the answers all the time. Or I don't know. Like I think that this might this shelf might fit or this. Let's get it. Let's f let's find out. It comes. I'm like, this does not work. Let's do something different. Yeah. Yeah. So I just try to be vulnerable with that. And I think a client appreciates that. for sure. Yeah. Morgan McFerson: Or this, let's get it, let's f let's find out. It comes, I'm like, this does not work. Let's do something different. You know? So I just try to be vulnerable with that. And I think a client appreciates that. To be like, Yeah, I don't like it like this, you know, or whatever. So sometimes I feel like I'm winning, sometimes I feel like I'm losing. Yeah. And that's okay. What is something Rachel Sauter: I don't like it like this, you know, or whatever. So sometimes I feel like I'm winning, sometimes I like I'm losing. Yeah. And that's okay. What is something that you're loving about being like where you are right now? Morgan McFerson: That you're loving about being like where you are right now. I think I don't care as much entering like this phase of my life. Yeah. I think I just don't care as much. I agree. I think a like a previous version of me would be like so consumed by, you know, every little thing. And A, I think that just pressure in life and time and kids has allowed me to be like, you just can't. Rachel Sauter: I think don't care as much entering like this phase of my life. Yes. I think I just don't care as much. I agree. I think like a previous version of me would be like so consumed by, you know, every little thing. And A I think that just pressure in life and time and kids has allowed me to be like, you just can't Right. You know? Right, right. But I also think that like I'm just more comfortable in my skin and like Morgan McFerson: You know, right, right. But I also think that like I'm just more comfortable in my skin and like just feel more confident with just a choice I've made. I'm just like, this is what I'm doing. Yeah. You know. Yes, yes, totally. I have some amazing friends that I've had forever, like high school friends that I've been friends with forever, and I adore them and we have a special thing. But I've also really enjoyed making friends as an adult. Yeah. Because similarly with the not caring so much, Rachel Sauter: just feel more confident with just a choice I've made. I'm just like, this is what I'm doing. Yeah. You know. Yes, totally. I have some amazing friends that I've had forever, like high school friends that I've been friends with forever and I l adore them and we have a special thing. But I've also really enjoyed making friends as an adult. Yeah. Because similarly with the not caring so much, you meet people all the time, right? But at this stage in my life like I'm really being particular. Morgan McFerson: you meet people all the time, right? But at this stage in my life, like I'm really being particular Rachel Sauter: about who I'm spending my time with. I've met some really amazing both my girls are in you know school age so just making new friends with their parents kind of choosing who I'm gonna spend time with has just been nice. Yeah. I also like to cook. I like to cook dinner. It's just an adult thing, you know? And I I don't but that's okay. Yeah, it's like one of my favorite things. Morgan McFerson: about who I'm spending my time with and I'm I've met some really amazing both my girls are in you know, school age. So just making new friends with their parents and kind of choosing who I'm gonna spend time with has just been nice. Yeah. I also like to cook. I like to cook dinner. Okay. It's just an adult thing, you know. It is an adult thing. I don't like to cook dinner. Yeah, it's like one of my favorite things. Rachel Sauter: down. And I like love that. I do too. We've made a point though. Morgan McFerson: down. And I like love that. I do too. And we've made a point of that with June even now as we sit down and eat dinner together, like phones away. You know, just try to like have a moment where we all connect. I think that's really important. Yeah. You know, and that's a very dull thing to do. Rachel Sauter: G and you now is when we sit down and eat dinner together, like phones away, you know, just try to like have a moment where we all connect. I think that's really important. Yeah. You know. And that's a very adult thing to do. It is. It is. To say we're not gonna watch T V while we're eating dinner. Right. Well, you know, day by day. Day by day. Day by day. what is your Morgan McFerson: It's to say we're not gonna watch TV while we're eating dinner tonight. Well, you know, day by day. Day by what is your most challenging thing about being an adult? Do you feel like? maybe the multitasking and just g I mean trying to be okay. We've talked about like Rachel Sauter: most challenging thing about being an adult, do you feel like? maybe the multitasking and just get I mean, trying to be okay. We've talked about like meant like overload and just like navigating through that, being okay with not getting everything done on a given day. Yeah. Being okay that maybe you're you know, I'm not the best mom every day, but I have days where it's great. Like just kind of that grace we have to give ourselves. I think it's hard. Morgan McFerson: meant like overload and just like navigating through that, being okay with not getting everything done on a given day. Yeah. Being okay that maybe you're you know, I'm not the best mom every day, but I have days where it's great. Like just kind of that grace we have to give ourselves, I think, is hard. Yeah. financial stress and Rachel Sauter: Yeah. financial stress and emotional Morgan McFerson: Emotional stress and raising kids stress and the world that we live in of stress. So just navigating that. Yeah. It's hard. Yeah. For me, I think it's like Rachel Sauter: stress and raising kids stress and the world that we live in stress. So just navigating that is hard. Yeah. For me I think it's like Morgan McFerson: the balance of caring for myself along with caring for family. Yeah. Whether that's June or Seamus or, you know, my extended family. There's just such a balance there. It's like you gotta find the time to spend on yourself. Like whatever the Rachel Sauter: the balance of caring for myself along with caring for family. Yeah. Whether that's June or Seamus or you know, my extended family. There's just such a balance there. It's like you gotta find time to spend on yourself. Like whatever the you know airplane where it's like you gotta put the mask on yourself or somebody else. It's totally true. And sometimes it's hard. Sometimes I find myself putting like everybody else worse. Morgan McFerson: you know, airplane where it's like you gotta put the mask on yourself before somebody else. Like it's totally true. And sometimes it's hard. Sometimes I find myself putting like everybody else first. Rachel Sauter: Like I'm pretty good. I like make my lunch and take my lunch to work. I ate most of my meals at home. We have an espresso machine so I make most of my coffees at home. But every once in a while be like I can go get a treat. Morgan McFerson: Like I'm pretty g I like make my lunch and take my lunch to work. I eat most of my meals at home. We have an espresso machine, so I make most of my coffees at home. But every once in a while like I can go get a treat. Rachel Sauter: Like I don't have to ask anybody. Nobody's doing it. I'm gonna go get a treat. Yeah. And that kind of feels like an adult thing. Totally. Or like we're really my daughter, my 13 year old daughter wants to get her nails done all the time, which is just ridiculous. So we do it for special things. but I got to leave work a little early. Morgan McFerson: Like I don't have to ask anybody. Nobody's gonna say I'm gonna get a treat. Yeah. And that kind of feels like an adult thing. Totally. My daughter, my thirteen year old daughter wants to get her nails done all the time, which is just ridiculous. So we do it for special things. but I got to leave work a little early a couple weeks ago and I was like, I'm gonna go get a pedicure. Yes. That felt kind of yeah. Not it's like it's an adult thing, but you don't have to ask anybody. Like the little luxuries that we can treat ourselves to each up every once in a while. And also Rachel Sauter: a couple weeks ago and I was like, I'm gonna go get a pedicure. Yeah. And I that felt kind of not it like it's an adult thing, but you don't have to ask anybody. Like the little luxuries that we can treat ourselves to each other every once in a while. And also pros about owning your business. Yeah. It's like sometimes you get to do those laws. Yes. Yes we can do that and treat myself to that. Something else is going back to what I don't want to do is checking our like bank account. No. And like being like where are we at with budgeting and that stuff. Yeah. nobody taught me Morgan McFerson: pros about owning your business yes is like sometimes you get to do those little things to say I'm gonna sneak out and do that and treat myself to this. Something else is going back to what I don't love to do is checking our like bank account. No. And like we like where are we at with budgeting and that stuff. Yeah. nobody taught me how to do that. I didn't know I was gonna have to do that as an adult. Yeah. Yeah. Rachel Sauter: to do that. I didn't I was gonna have to do that as an adult. Yeah, yeah. But then I'm like, actually I am gonna go get a pedicure because right, right. This is fine today. Today. Morgan McFerson: Right, right. This Rachel Sauter: No, I feel like for our in our household, my husband deals with all of that, which is nice I'm grateful for. But every once in a while I like a panic where I'm like if something happens to him, I don't even know how to pay anything. He says it's all just gonna be fine. Yes. Yes. Morgan McFerson: is like for our in our household, my husband deals with all of that, which is nice. I'm grateful for it. But every once in why I have like a panic where I'm like, if something happens to him, I don't even know how to anything. Yeah. Yeah. He says it's all just gonna be fine. Like I'm have blind trust in you. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Hopefully you won't steer your rock. No. That's funny. I know. Rachel Sauter: No, no. That's funny. I know. upgrade? A tiny life upgrade based on becoming an adult. Morgan McFerson: upgrade? A tiny life upgrade based on becoming an adult. Do you have one? Rachel Sauter: Do you have one? Morgan McFerson: I think a tiny life upgrade, just something little about becoming an adult. To go get a trip. Rachel Sauter: I think a tiny life upgrade, just something little about becoming an adult. To go get a treat. Well, go get a treat. I love that. But also to like honor like the child inside of you a little bit. You know? Yes. The other night June was colouring. Yeah. Which I loved to do when I was little. Yeah. And still do. But like Of course. She doesn't like to color. Don't like do that for myself. And we just like sat at the table and colored together and I was like, I need to do this more. Morgan McFerson: Well, go get a treat. I love that. But also to like honor like the child inside of you a little bit, you know? Yes. The other night June was coloring. Yeah. Which I loved to do when I was little. Yeah. And still do. But like she doesn't love to color. Don't like do that for myself. And we just like sat at the table and colored together. And I was like, I need to do this more. Rachel Sauter: You know, because I'm a child and so I mean love to do that. And I you know my life kinda takes over sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. Morgan McFerson: You know, because like the child inside of me loved to do that. And I, you know, normal life kind of takes over sometimes. So Rachel Sauter: So that's my time. Color or do something with your inner child. I love it. I love it. Morgan McFerson: So that's my Thai life upgrade. Color or do something your inner child your inner child would want to do. I love it. I love it.
