- 0:00SPEAKER_01: I I have to go backwards for a minute.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: I have to take us back to the chore chart for a minute because a text that just came in from uh let's see 2235, which by the way, they have their name listed as JP.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: If your name's listed as JP, either you own an oil company or well, you own an oil company.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Let's put it that way.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Uh my cousin is a well, his name's Justin Payne.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: He doesn't go by JP, but his dad will call him JP sometimes, especially because he used to play sports.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: He'd be on the basketball court and be like, Yeah, come on, JP!
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's right.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Doesn't it sound like when you have the two initials like that, like a JP.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: JP.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Mine's JP Wentworth and I own a Texas oil company.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Oil company that you are buying expensive gas.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And he comes in with like those snakeskin boots.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: That's right, big hat.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, although this could be a woman.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: But either way.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, it could be.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Neither here nor there.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, okay, so I have to read to you what they do with the chore chart because you're gonna laugh hysterically.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: They have six kids, so we're Catholic.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: No, no, I I jokingly put that in.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna say six too many.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, hell.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: We have six kids.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: We needed uh a chore system that was simple, but also taught them uh some responsibility.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: So we're all right, exactly.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: And six of them, I mean, my God, you could not maintain the house doing it all yourself.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So they had a chore chart, and every chore has a certain point value.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: The kids earn points for doing their responsibilities, and then they can decide how they want to spend the points.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Now, this is where it gets ri this is where it gets great.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, let's hear it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: What's the what's the JP owns an oil company in Addison, apparently.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, but they said they can use them for things like the quote unquote good snacks.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: So you do the chores, you suddenly get the Doritos.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: I'm stuck with the wise potato chips that are the plain ones.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, I was even thinking something worse, the reduced fat string cheese.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, no.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: You'd get the Doritos, I'd get the Quest chips because I wasn't working as hard.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: So anyway, they get the really good.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: You never sell that.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Anyway, they're the the good snack.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I love the good snack idea.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Or the special drink.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Extra extra screen time.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: That's the one right there.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's the one that sells it.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Or they can save up for something bigger, like uh, let's see, maybe uh a special day date with uh just mom uh and dad.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's when you get to do real fun stuff.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: You're like going to Chili's.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: That's when we call it a break for mom and dad because you get five kids left behind with the other parent.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: The other parents going.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And then you think Why did I marry this son of why did I marry this oil company executive?
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: But then and but then you both get to go to Chili's.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's true.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You're at the Chili's, you're at GameStop or whatever.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Anyway, keep going.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: And with six kids, really.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, a day like that, you it's the first time you've really had a conversation one-on-one with your parent.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: My god, I give you a lot of credit with six kids.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Oh my lord.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, anyway, we also have a little twist on it, and uh, if we have to keep reminding them, meaning mom and dad to pick something up.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: We have to keep reminding them, eventually it goes to what we call mom and dad jail.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And they have to do different things and get more points to buy it back.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: You know, you guys really thought of everything.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: I did really well.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I love this, and you know what else I love too is it does kind of get them in the mode of how to save money too.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I know it's points, but it's hey, if you save for this, you can get something bigger.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: See, I look at it a little bit different.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: There's always gonna be the kid that's gonna see it the way you do, and that's the kid that's gonna be the saver.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: And then there's me.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter what it is.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: I'm like, give me that screen time, run out.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: I'm always broke.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I can't save money.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, I get money, I gotta spend money.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Instant satisfaction.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: It I know.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's my that's my thing.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And I think somewhere that's in your genetics because like my brother Gary, he is the saver.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you, he's probably got five mils stowed away.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: And I mean, I he knows better than show show me any of that money.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Uh me, I will be owing five million when I die.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: And then my brother Jim is somewhere in the middle where it's like, you know, he he's he's okay.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not convinced it's genetics.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I d I kind of feel that, but I used to not be this way, and now I am this way, and and I'm I'm glad that I'm this way.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I even am trying to teach that to my significant significant other, and I'm like, now you're gonna pay me and I'm gonna sock it away so that way we can do Oh, back it up!
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: You got him giving you a paycheck on top of whipping him?
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Not yet.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I am highly impressed with the skill set or gotten destroyed by it.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, there's certain conversations you have to have about sharing money, sharing household things.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And we're so it wasn't a conversation of if you want to continue to hang out with me, you gotta pay me.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: No, but it's it's oh there's It kind of feels like that.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: It's my envelope thing.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is a great system.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So what I said was eventually we're going to there's two things, three things that are gonna happen.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Eventually, we want to go to Germany next year.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: That's a possibility.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: The other one, so I said, Well, just give me some money and I put it in envelope and then you know, we save up.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Or a new roof.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: A new roof.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Oh not very sexy, I know.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, but it's something that's needed.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Leaderhosen or new leaf guards.
