- 2:06Speaker 3: isn't about forgetting. It's not about excusing what hurts you.

- 2:17Speaker 3: what you no longer want to carry. That is an
- 2:21Speaker 3: important lesson and tool for a positive life. We will
- 2:26Speaker 3: talk about it in a moment, but first we have
- 2:28Speaker 3: our trivia question of the day. Are you ready for it?
- 2:32Speaker 3: Here it is which major world religion emphasizes the concept
- 2:38Speaker 3: of letting go of anger as a path to enlightenment

- 4:15Speaker 3: for listening and happy reading. Welcome back. Do you know
- 4:26Speaker 3: the answer to this week's trivia question? The question was
- 4:31Speaker 3: which major world religion emphasizes the concept of letting go
- 4:35Speaker 3: of anger as a path to enlightenment and peace. The
- 4:39Speaker 3: answer Buddhism. In Buddhism, forgiveness is seen as essential for
- 4:45Speaker 3: personal liberation. Holding on to anger and resentment is described
- 4:50Speaker 3: as drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Through mindfulness and compassion, Buddhists believe that they can let
- 5:00Speaker 3: go of harmful emotions, not to condone the wrongdoing, but
- 5:05Speaker 3: to end their own suffering. That idea has deep roots
- 5:10Speaker 3: across many cultures and faiths, but in Buddhism it's a
- 5:14Speaker 3: clear path toward peace of mind. Now you know, forgiveness
- 5:28Speaker 3: is often misunderstood as a gift you give someone else,
- 5:33Speaker 3: but really it's a gift you give yourself. When we
- 5:37Speaker 3: hold on to resentment or bitterness, it doesn't protect us.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It weighs us down. It keeps the pain alive and
- 5:47Speaker 3: makes it harder to move forward. Forgiveness doesn't say what
- 5:52Speaker 3: happened was okay. It says I'm no longer going to
- 5:56Speaker 3: let what happened control me. The hardest person to forgive
- 6:02Speaker 3: is yourself, for the mistakes you made, for the image
- 6:07Speaker 3: you or the things that you wish you had done differently.
- 6:12Speaker 3: But holding on to shame doesn't make you better. Learning
- 6:17Speaker 3: from it and releasing it does. Forgiveness is a kind
- 6:21Speaker 3: of inner freedom. It clears space for peace, love and growth.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And the beautiful part, you don't need permission from anyone
- 6:31Speaker 3: else to do it. It's your decision, your power, your healing.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Let me leave you today with this real life story.
- 6:54Speaker 3: In South Africa. After the end of apartheid, the country
- 6:58Speaker 3: launched the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Instead of simply punishing
- 7:04Speaker 3: every offense, they offered victims a chance to tell their stories,
- 7:10Speaker 3: and perpetrators a chance to confess, sometimes even face to face.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Many chose forgiveness not because they weren't hurt, but because
- 7:21Speaker 3: they didn't want to stay chained to the pain. One
- 7:25Speaker 3: mother whose son has been killed told her son's murderer,
- 7:31Speaker 3: what you've taken can't be returned, But I forgive you
- 7:35Speaker 3: because I refuse to let hate steal the rest of
- 7:38Speaker 3: my life. That's not weakness, that's strength. So today ask yourself,
- 7:47Speaker 3: what am I still carrying that I don't need anymore?
- 7:51Speaker 3: And then ask what would it feel like to set
- 7:55Speaker 3: that down? Forgive not because they deserve it, they may not,
- 8:02Speaker 3: but because you deserve it. Thanks for spending a few
- 8:07Speaker 3: moments with me here today on Positively three sixty five.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Be gentle with others, Be gentle with yourself.
