- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: One of Aesop's best known fables is one called The Tortoise and the Hare.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: You've probably heard this story before, but in case you haven't, I'll give you a quick summary.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: The hare challenges the tortoise to a race, confident that he'll win by a long shot.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: The race begins and the hare gets so far ahead of the tortoise that he takes a nap.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: When the hare wakes up, he finds that the tortoise kept moving the whole time and he ended up winning the race.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, there's an awful lot that we can learn from the tortoise.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: The basic lesson being this.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: It may take a while to get where we're going, but if we persist, we'll eventually get there.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: There are times as a writer when you're going to feel like giving up on your writing goals, but whatever it is that you're working on, it's important to be persistent and work through the problems that make it harder to reach the finish line.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: You've got to stay the course and just work through those problems.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Matthew Weiner, who is the creator of the hit TV series Mad Men, knows a thing or two about persistence.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Here's what he said in an interview in a book.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It took seven years from the time I wrote Mad Men until it finally got on the screen.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I lived every day with that script as if it were going to happen tomorrow.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: That's the faith you have to have.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Hollywood is tough, but I do believe that if you are truly talented, get your material out there, can put up with rejection, and don't set a time limit for yourself.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Someone will notice you.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Well, those are really great words from the creator of one of the best TV shows of all time.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: You know, it's really easy to get sidelined by problems on the creative journey, but you must persist and keep on doing the work that you've been called to do.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: There's too much at stake for you to throw in the towel.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Remember the lesson from the tortoise and the hare slow and steady wins the race.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question As you look at the projects that you're working on right now, where do you need to be slow and steady, and what does it mean for you to win the race?
