- 0:17We have the power.
- 0:34So, welcome to the podcast. Today I have
- 0:37an extremely
- 0:39extremely pleasant surprise for
- 0:41everybody out there. One of my favorite
- 0:43YouTubers and somebody who is doing
- 0:45something extraordinary in the Masters
- 0:48of the Universe realm out there because
- 0:51we're all big fans. Welcome to the
- 0:53channel and the podcast. Jay over at
- 0:55Mega J Retro. How you doing, brother?
- 0:58>> How's it going, Lawrence? Good to see
- 0:59you, brother.
- 1:00>> So, I got to start off by saying this.
- 1:02We talked a little backstage, but I have
- 1:04been watching your YouTube channel since
- 1:06the pandemic, probably before that with
- 1:09um all the toy hunts you've done looking
- 1:11for stuff. And the first thing before we
- 1:13go any any further, I gotta say you have
- 1:15to bring back the toy hunts, brother,
- 1:17because I miss the little sounds you
- 1:18used to do when you find things and all
- 1:21the great stuff that you guys have in
- 1:22Canada. I know it's it's tough right now
- 1:24with the way the terrorists are and
- 1:25stuff, but I got to tell you, man, some
- 1:27of that content you put out like really
- 1:29got me through that early part of CO and
- 1:31beyond. So, we miss you out there. We
- 1:33miss those hunts.
- 1:34>> Yeah. You know what, Lawrence is crazy.
- 1:36Uh, how many people tell me that they
- 1:38miss the hunt? So, I I funnily enough
- 1:41funnily enough uh I I today and uh the
- 1:44the other day I went back to Toys R Us
- 1:46and I was shocked. So, a lot of great
- 1:49content coming coming back up. I
- 1:51probably am going to do a uh a full uh
- 1:54tour of a just, you know, we we'll we'll
- 1:56talk about it right now. I'm probably
- 1:57going to do a full tour of Toys R Us uh
- 1:59for everybody that and the renovations
- 2:01they've done, the changes that they made
- 2:03uh as well as the fact that things are
- 2:06happening here in Canada. And now it's
- 2:08my understanding uh thanks to our good
- 2:10friends at um at Toy Habits and other
- 2:12resources that uh Toys R Us is going
- 2:16forward with their plans in the United
- 2:17States to open up 30 new flagship stores
- 2:20hopefully and this is you know hopefully
- 2:23uh before the holidays. So let's see if
- 2:25that actually happens Lawrence because
- 2:26that would be that would be crazy
- 2:27wouldn't it?
- 2:28>> I heard about that. So I wasn't sure how
- 2:30that was going to work if it going to be
- 2:31like the smaller stores that they have
- 2:32now like they have them in like Macy's
- 2:34stuff like that. a couple of like
- 2:35smaller locations, one in New Jersey by
- 2:37me, but um nothing crazy like like we
- 2:40grew up with. But I I love watching your
- 2:42videos, especially going to the Toys R
- 2:43Us. Not only was I I was like really
- 2:45like feeling for you because the prices
- 2:47out there are crazy, which I remember
- 2:49you showing, but uh just because you
- 2:51also were getting things that I wasn't
- 2:52seeing in stores out here at the time
- 2:54either, like when the original MOTU
- 2:56origins came out, like you guys got them
- 2:58first before I even saw them on shelves.
- 3:00So that was a real treat for me.
- 3:01>> It is. It is. Uh it's funny how things
- 3:03go circ everything's cyclical, right?
- 3:06Everything goes what goes around comes
- 3:07around. So yeah, we were getting them
- 3:09first sometimes. Sometimes we're getting
- 3:10them a little bit later. Uh but as it is
- 3:13right now because the MOTUS just hasn't
- 3:15been really moving the way it has uh in
- 3:17the US um finding something so finding
- 3:20something on the shelves now is is very
- 3:22very far and few between. But yeah, I
- 3:24mean like um we were getting some cool
- 3:26stuff and even even now we started to
- 3:28get some cool stuff like sometimes um I
- 3:31would find especially at Toys R Us I
- 3:33would find some like GI Joe classifies
- 3:35like the barness was sold out everywhere
- 3:36at Targets and such right and all of a
- 3:39sudden she was showing up at Toys R Us
- 3:40in like droves and people were going
- 3:41nuts every time I found one people would
- 3:43be like oh how dare you and people get
- 3:45pissed and you know it was it was these
- 3:47crazy times bet and again the pandemic
- 3:49didn't help. Everyone was like what are
- 3:50you doing out you should be indoors. I'm
- 3:52like, "Whatever, man. Like, if they let
- 3:54me out to go to go grocery shopping, I'm
- 3:56going to see if they let me into Toys R
- 3:58Us." So, I was like, you know, I got
- 3:59into Toys R Us and and I did my thing.
- 4:01And, you know, people some people are
- 4:03happy, some people are a little bit, you
- 4:04know, just like, how'd you get that?
- 4:06Like, like, you know, what are you going
- 4:08to do with that? It's like, you know
- 4:09what? This is this is just the the joy
- 4:11of the hunt, right? So, it was it was a
- 4:13really cool uh time. And and uh the
- 4:16problem is that when gas started really
- 4:18going up, I had to sort of slow it down.
- 4:20And then with these with these tariffs,
- 4:22it got really hard. But you and a lot of
- 4:25people have basically said, you know,
- 4:26Jay, you should you should go back and
- 4:27you should do some stuff. I'm like,
- 4:28okay, let's see what happens. If I I'm
- 4:30gonna I'm going to put it up and see if
- 4:32if everybody starts watching again. And
- 4:33if they do, heck yeah, I'm going to do
- 4:35it all over again. Absolutely, 100%.
- 4:38>> You're one of the dudes that that made
- 4:39me want to go and do YouTube. So kudos
- 4:42to you. I remember driving around with
- 4:43my kid like during that time and I'd put
- 4:46on your video as you're driving like in
- 4:48the car like you ask me who's this guy.
- 4:50I'm like oh he was a big toys. He loved
- 4:52all the toys and stuff like that. He's a
- 4:53big Spider-Man fan, big Marvel fan. So
- 4:56I'm like this is Mega J Retro Man. Like
- 4:58he goes around to Toys R Us and stuff
- 4:59like that. And my kid remembers Toys for
- 5:01us too. So he's like oh wow we don't
- 5:02have Toys R Us.
- 5:04>> He he knows you as well. So I I'm sure
- 5:06like when this is done and edited and I
- 5:08show him who I'm on with he's going to
- 5:10be like holy crap. So that that's a good
- 5:12thing.
- 5:13>> That's awesome, dude. I appreciate it.
- 5:14Thanks.
- 5:16>> All right, so let's segue into the
- 5:18reason why we're here, and that is
- 5:19Masters of the Universe, right? You
- 5:22guys, you know, I'm a big Master
- 5:23Universe fan, and obviously from
- 5:24watching you for years, I know you are
- 5:26as well. So, how did you what was your
- 5:28first like thing with Motu? How did you
- 5:31like you remember your first thing like
- 5:32when you first saw He-Man, when you
- 5:34first saw Skeletor? What was it?
- 5:35>> Yeah, so I've told this story a couple
- 5:37times on my channel. Um so uh I I I
- 5:41immigrated here from um uh from the
- 5:43Philippines. Uh my mom and my dad uh
- 5:45brought me here when I was really young.
- 5:46Um and you know uh for for all the uh
- 5:50immigrants out there usually when you
- 5:52when you come to a new country uh you
- 5:54end up staying with with your cousins
- 5:56and your your relatives um you know and
- 5:59basically living with them for a number
- 6:01of months maybe even a year. And I ended
- 6:02up living with my cousins for for some
- 6:04time. And um living with them was a lot
- 6:07of fun. And one day my cousin John, he
- 6:11basically um you know, we play in his
- 6:13room. And there was this thing on top of
- 6:16the shelf. And I I remember looking at
- 6:18it and just being like like kind of
- 6:20scared but a little bit but at the same
- 6:21time memerized by it. And I would I
- 6:23would point it out. I was like, "John,
- 6:24what's that?" And he'd be like, "Oh,
- 6:25that's not for kids." And I'm like,
- 6:26"Come on, what is it? What is it? It
- 6:28looks really cool." And he said, "Okay."
- 6:30So he brought it down and that was the
- 6:31first time I ever saw Castle Grey Skull
- 6:33and I was like what is this and he's
- 6:35like this is Castle Grey Skull and just
- 6:37like the freaking if you remember those
- 6:3980s commercials he was like boo and like
- 6:41he would like knock down the jaw bridge
- 6:43and of course Skeletor would come out
- 6:45and he start [laughter]
- 6:46I am Skeletor, right? And and it was it
- 6:49was just this crazy thing because I
- 6:52didn't know who these characters were. I
- 6:54didn't know what they did. Even John was
- 6:56kind of like, "Yeah, this He-Man, this
- 6:58Skeletor, this Beast Man." I couldn't
- 7:00keep those names in my head, right?
- 7:02Because there was no cartoons uh when it
- 7:04first came out in 1982, right? Um and
- 7:08we're playing, we're having a great
- 7:09time, and then of course a week later, I
- 7:12come back and he'd bring it down and I'm
- 7:14like, "What's that guy's name again?" We
- 7:16both forgot. So then he goes, "Okay, let
- 7:17me bring down the comic book." So we
- 7:19still we start flipping through the
- 7:20comic book and we see all the Alcala
- 7:23illustrations. I can't read or not. I
- 7:26couldn't read well. So, I'm just
- 7:27enjoying the the pictures, right? But it
- 7:30had this um fantasy aspect to it, you
- 7:32know what I mean? This this real Con of
- 7:34the Barbarian kind of idea, which I
- 7:36didn't at the time, I didn't know know
- 7:37what Cone of the Barbarian was, but I
- 7:39really was enamored by by the by the
- 7:41illustrations, by the what I could
- 7:43understand as as as the story. And I
- 7:46think that really resonated with me. And
- 7:48then, of course, uh I begged my mom and
- 7:50my dad, you know, to pick up a couple
- 7:51for me and my brother. And yeah, we got
- 7:53a few here and there. We got like
- 7:54Skeletor, He-Man, Merman, uh, and Tila,
- 7:58right? And then come Christmas, they got
- 8:00us the um the Snake Mountain and the the
- 8:03Castle Grey Skull. And then in 1983, uh,
- 8:06Filmation uh, puts out He-Man and the
- 8:09Masters of Universe, uh, the cartoon.
- 8:11And I was I was absolutely hooked. Like
- 8:13I totally forgot about the comics, uh,
- 8:15the mini comics, and I just started
- 8:16watching this on a daily basis. And it
- 8:18became my world, man. It became my world
- 8:20for a long time. and and you know
- 8:22started collecting all the the road
- 8:23rippers, the um uh the the the attack
- 8:28sorry the um the battle ram, you know
- 8:29what I mean? The dragon walker, all
- 8:32these great, you know, vehicles that uh
- 8:33that would come out with the toys and my
- 8:35cousins, they had all their toys and we
- 8:37were just like, you know, have a huge
- 8:38grand old time. And that was the great
- 8:40thing about toys, man. Toys really
- 8:42brought your family together. It was it
- 8:43was and you know your friends and you
- 8:45would swap and they would they would
- 8:47take some they would never bring them
- 8:48back you know you would take some of
- 8:49theirs and they would never bring and
- 8:50you never give them back. It was such a
- 8:52great time to be a kid uh with with with
- 8:54action figures and toys back then. And
- 8:55that really was that really stuck with
- 8:56me. And of course, you lose touch with
- 8:59it. But, you know, years later uh
- 9:01probably when I was in my teens teen
- 9:03years, I started thinking about Master
- 9:05Universe all over again because I still
- 9:06had buried in my basement somewhere. My
- 9:08mom kept it uh the Castle Grey Skull and
- 9:11a few of my figures. So, you know, you
- 9:14get that itch right afterwards and and
- 9:16you start thinking, okay, you know what?
- 9:17one of these days when I have a little
- 9:18bit more money, I'm going to go back and
- 9:20I'm going to start collecting. And it
- 9:22never really happened for me to to be
- 9:24able to collect those um you know, all
- 9:26the actual original Master Universe
- 9:28figures. But then all of a sudden, you
- 9:29start looking and you say, "Hey, there's
- 9:31a new Master Universe TV show. It's New
- 9:33Adventures." And then there's another
- 9:34one a few years later, He-Man in the
- 9:36Master Universe 200X. And then after
- 9:38that um you know years later when I was
- 9:40already in college and university and
- 9:42actually started my new job uh my first
- 9:44job then I found out years later after
- 9:47that that the four horsemen you know
- 9:49create master universe classics and you
- 9:51know the whole the whole thing just
- 9:52comes full circle like I said
- 9:53everything's cyclical. So yeah man it's
- 9:55it's it's been a very He-Man has been
- 9:58with me for quite of quite a long time.
- 10:00>> Yeah I'm with you there. I mean, I'm I'm
- 10:02in my late 40s, so like to me, it is
- 10:05such an iconic part of my life. And I
- 10:08think a lot of people who probably grew
- 10:10up around my same age range and the in
- 10:12the early 1980s, mid1 1980s, like that
- 10:15was part of your childhood. Even if you
- 10:16were not a guy, I had, you know, girl
- 10:18cousins that that were growing up. They
- 10:20had, you know, characters like Tila,
- 10:21Eivelyn that would bring them in as
- 10:23well. But personally, Skeletor was
- 10:26always my guy. I've had this incredible
- 10:28fondness for the character my entire
- 10:31life. So, I got to ask you, I ask
- 10:33everyone when we talk about Motu, are
- 10:34you are you leaning more to the evil
- 10:36warriors? Are you the heroic warrior
- 10:38guy?
- 10:39>> Um, I mean, the evil warriors are always
- 10:42going to be the most fun, right? At the
- 10:44end of the day, I mean, like that's
- 10:46that's really where where things got um,
- 10:48you know, real imagination started with
- 10:50those guys, right? Uh, I really have a
- 10:53fondness for The Evil Guys. I really
- 10:54have a fondness for Too Bad. I I loved
- 10:57uh the toy itself, you know, this huge
- 10:59gigantic chest, you know, the two heads,
- 11:01the fact that he keep he can hit
- 11:03himself. I always played that game with
- 11:05with too bad. Don't stop hitting
- 11:06yourself, right? And I would just kept
- 11:08keep doing that because that's how they
- 11:09made them. They they made them almost to
- 11:11make to hit themselves. It was crazy. Um
- 11:14Skeletor is definitely uh one of my
- 11:16absolute all-time favorite uh villains
- 11:18of all time. Um, and of course when when
- 11:21the Master Universe movie came out in '
- 11:2387, Frank Langella just took that
- 11:26character and dialed him up to 11. And I
- 11:29just remember him being so deliciously
- 11:30evil. I was like, man, this is this is
- 11:32Skeletor. This is like on screen. And,
- 11:35you know, Franklinella took that movie,
- 11:37put it on its shoulders, and just like
- 11:38walked it uh to the to the finish line,
- 11:40man. Because, you know, Dolph Ling just
- 11:42could not act. You know, he was a a big
- 11:45lumbering He-Man, and you love him. You
- 11:47know what I mean? But but it was
- 11:48definitely Skeletor that made that film.
- 11:50So yeah, I can see exactly where you're
- 11:52coming from. The villains are always a
- 11:53lot of fun. But I will be a uh I'll
- 11:56always be a good guy kind of character.
- 11:58Uh you know, I love them. My favorite
- 12:00character of all time has always been
- 12:01Manny Faces. And um you know, now you
- 12:05know, today we we found out that a brand
- 12:06new sketch edition Manny Faces uh was is
- 12:08being released, right? So
- 12:10>> I saw that
- 12:11>> a lot of things are a lot of things are
- 12:12coming full circle. You know, all the
- 12:14Mark Tiller designs. It's looking pretty
- 12:16cool right now for Master Universe back
- 12:18in in 2026.
- 12:19>> There's a lot. I mean, I thought that
- 12:21and I don't want to jump right into the
- 12:23toys, but like the new toys, but like I
- 12:24I you know, I kind of thought with the
- 12:26with the Origins line kind of being
- 12:28almost finished and now like I don't
- 12:31want to say the Masterverse, they had to
- 12:32like redo it because the original the
- 12:35wave that they they were putting out
- 12:36wasn't doing too great. So now they've
- 12:38kind of revamped it a little bit for
- 12:39like another release. I kind of thought
- 12:41that was ending. So, I was a little
- 12:42surprised to hear that there I've heard
- 12:45sales have gotten an uptick now for
- 12:47Mattel because of Masters of the
- 12:48Universe. So, I was happy to hear that.
- 12:51>> There was a there was a report uh I
- 12:53think it was yesterday or today uh that
- 12:55Mattel has actually uh said that that
- 12:57action figure sales are up and partially
- 12:59due to to universe which is great. Um,
- 13:02and it's surprising because, you know,
- 13:04the way they've been going along with
- 13:06Mass Universe Origins and such, uh, and
- 13:08how they keep delaying it and, um, you
- 13:10know, um, certain series that they they
- 13:13connect with it, like the crossovers,
- 13:14which we can we can talk about that for
- 13:16for all day, but, um, you know, Origins
- 13:19has been left to its own devices really
- 13:21for for, um, for Mass Universe um, um,
- 13:24Mass Universe Creations, right? Sorry,
- 13:26um, MattelCreations.com.
- 13:28And uh a lot of people are like, "When
- 13:30are you going to finish the line?" Like,
- 13:31"Just finish the line already." Right.
- 13:33Um but that I I think that that falls in
- 13:36line with what they're trying to do.
- 13:37Their strategy is to, you know, get a
- 13:39few more extra characters out there so
- 13:41that they can continue making these
- 13:43molds, right? And you know, um Did you
- 13:46pick up Stinger? Because he's he's he's
- 13:47pretty wild, man. That's a that's a
- 13:49pretty cool figure, Sting. I think
- 13:51>> so. For me, for me, I have stuck to the
- 13:54characters that I remember growing up
- 13:56with as a kid because I didn't want to,
- 13:58it becomes almost too much for me where
- 13:59to start picking up new characters. So,
- 14:01like I wanted to to finish the the run
- 14:03of like characters that were created in
- 14:04the 80s and I'm still waiting like for
- 14:06an Origins too bad. We got the the
- 14:08filmation,
- 14:09>> but again, I want I would love to see a
- 14:12Prince Adam on card. We got one with the
- 14:14with the set and then I would love to
- 14:17have a Mecha neck. Also, we got the
- 14:18Mecha Neck with the Road Ripper. I would
- 14:19love to have a mechanic on card. I want
- 14:21to finish out that line before I start
- 14:23picking and choosing other characters
- 14:25that I that I was planning to pick up
- 14:27later. So, that was a little bit
- 14:28disappointing and and I feel like a lot
- 14:29of other collectors feel the same way
- 14:31like you said. But, one question I
- 14:33wanted to ask you. Obviously, I know you
- 14:34you were an Origins collector cuz I
- 14:36watched your videos. You go into the
- 14:37stores trying to look for. But, like
- 14:40before that, like did you pick up the
- 14:422000X line? Did you get the classics?
- 14:44Were you into that? Were you buying them
- 14:45or to just kind of wait for that origins
- 14:47and and the filmation stuff to come
- 14:49after that?
- 14:50>> So I I I
- 14:52have to admit um by the time 200x had
- 14:55come around
- 14:57I was really disillusioned with New
- 14:59Adventures. [laughter]
- 15:00I uh I saw the animation uh way back
- 15:04when and and you know very much like a
- 15:06lot of the old school Filmation fans, I
- 15:08saw New Adventures and I thought this is
- 15:09not this is not cool. This is not good.
- 15:12and I didn't go that route for for New
- 15:14Adventures. And when 200X came out, I
- 15:16thought it was awesome. I thought the
- 15:17cartoon was amazing. I thought that um
- 15:20uh it was it was a really cool uh
- 15:22leaning into very anime type of of of
- 15:25action and I thought this is this is
- 15:27really neat. The problem was up here in
- 15:29Canada, it was hard to figure out what
- 15:31time it was going to be on. It would it
- 15:33would hop from from different station to
- 15:35different station. It was it was it was
- 15:36really weird. And I think it really did
- 15:38hurt the series that they couldn't
- 15:39figure out a proper time slot. Um, but
- 15:42the other problem was that uh
- 15:44distribution was was okay here in
- 15:46Canada, but I I couldn't find it in my
- 15:50uh Walmarts at the time. Um, so it was
- 15:53hard to collect. And because of that, I
- 15:56really did not get into 200X,
- 15:58unfortunately, the Mike Young series for
- 16:00for the Four Horsemen original um 200X
- 16:03characters, the the He-Man universe. Um,
- 16:05which I kind of regret because they did
- 16:07look freaking awesome. However, I will
- 16:09say on hindsight, they are kind of more
- 16:11like movable statues, you know what I
- 16:13mean? They don't really have the best of
- 16:14articulation. They they had this one
- 16:16cool pose and you can sort of move them
- 16:18around, right? Um, but I saw what the
- 16:20Four Horsemen were trying to do. They
- 16:22were trying to really get uh, you know,
- 16:24a type of McFarland look at the time
- 16:26because McFarland was already doing uh
- 16:28his action figures and trying to really
- 16:30get, you know, again, more movable
- 16:32statues. Same thing, right? Like a lot
- 16:34of the stuff that Mcfarland was doing at
- 16:35the time. Um but uh I really didn't I
- 16:39really sort of that that that era of toy
- 16:41passed me by and when I got out of
- 16:44college um and started working uh I
- 16:48completely missed classics. I was so I
- 16:52was so deep into my my career uh and
- 16:55trying to and trying to get ahead that I
- 16:57I basically mo most of the geek stuff
- 17:00that I was doing was was was centered
- 17:01around anime around that time. I was
- 17:03really really into anime and a lot of
- 17:05the toys I was collecting at the time
- 17:06was was anime based. Um, and it was only
- 17:09like decades later, like about a decade
- 17:12later or so, where someone like I think
- 17:15I was on Big Bad Toy Store somehow, and
- 17:17I saw the last remnants, the last few uh
- 17:20Mass Universe um, uh, what's it called?
- 17:23Uh, Club Grey Skull figures. And I lost
- 17:26my mind. I was like, what what what
- 17:28where I literally was like, where were
- 17:30these things? When did these things come
- 17:31out? I was I was absolutely losing my
- 17:33mind. And if you know anything about uh
- 17:35and for for everybody who's collecting
- 17:37class, you know how much they freaking
- 17:39skyrocketed in price at that point. It
- 17:40was it was like unobtainable to to pick
- 17:43up any of these figures at a reasonable
- 17:44price. I think He-Man um the original
- 17:47He-Man not Grey Skull uh for classics.
- 17:50Uh at the time he was he was almost like
- 17:52150. I was like this is insane. Canadian
- 17:55150 Canadian. And I was like this this
- 17:56is Canadian. This is this is insane.
- 17:58This is absolutely insane. And I really
- 18:00wanted them. I I wanted I wanted the
- 18:02whole line. Like they looked amazing,
- 18:04right? They they looked exactly the way
- 18:05I wanted to look. The new articulation,
- 18:07everything about them. Um and Battlecat
- 18:09looked amazing. The Battleground looked
- 18:11amazing. The freaking they then you know
- 18:12what? Um at the time, Matty Collector
- 18:15and Scott Night and the Four Horsemen,
- 18:17man, they were just killing it. To this
- 18:19day, it's my understanding that to this
- 18:21day, it still is the most complete
- 18:24Master of the Universe line uh out
- 18:26there. It has more figures than any
- 18:28other Master Universe collection. I I
- 18:29was probably like you in the same thing.
- 18:31I kind of went back on a nostalgia trip
- 18:33when I was a lot younger and all of a
- 18:35sudden I caught these figures like at
- 18:36some point like mid-release or towards
- 18:39the end of that line and I went back
- 18:40trying to look and see how much they
- 18:41were and they were even in the US they
- 18:43were crazy priced. I'm like you know
- 18:44what this would cost me an arm and a leg
- 18:46to try to pick these up right now. So I
- 18:49refrained. But the 200x line, I don't
- 18:52remember where I saw it for the first
- 18:54time, but when I heard that these things
- 18:56were coming out, and I remember exactly
- 18:57where I was, it was at KB. I don't know
- 19:00if you guys had a KB in quite yet, in
- 19:02Canada.
- 19:02>> We we didn't have a KB in Canada, but
- 19:04you know, trips down to trips down to
- 19:06Buffalo. Um, you know, crossing the
- 19:08border. I have been a KB I have been in
- 19:10a KB toy store, so I know I I I did
- 19:12experience a KB. Yeah.
- 19:14>> So, I remember going down the aisle and
- 19:16seeing them for the first time. I'm
- 19:17like, holy crap. the original waves from
- 19:20that line were like because you said
- 19:22like the updated structure of the
- 19:24figures. They weren't like the
- 19:25originals, you know, uh more statues,
- 19:27very like I don't want to say
- 19:29articulated, but they were very detail
- 19:30oriented figures which I absolutely
- 19:32loved. Like you said before, anime
- 19:34style, but like just a new look for
- 19:36He-Man. So, I was just happy to see the
- 19:38IP back on storeshelves. I was really
- 19:40excited. Started picking up all those
- 19:41because they were still relatively cheap
- 19:43at the time. But that line died very
- 19:46quickly when we got figures like Disco
- 19:49Skeletor and all the repaints we got
- 19:51really quick. So that soured me
- 19:55immediately once I once I started
- 19:56getting like waves or like there was no
- 19:58real like new figures coming out. I'm
- 19:59like, "All right, this is getting
- 20:01ridiculous now." And that's where I kind
- 20:02of stopped, you know, going for the line
- 20:04until the Origins line came out. And
- 20:06that to me has been like a really a
- 20:08blessing because I love the look of the
- 20:10original figures, right? That's what
- 20:12made them iconic. those those 5-in
- 20:14figures that are like unlike anything
- 20:16else, so nostalgic, and they kind of
- 20:18recreated that, maybe updated it just a
- 20:20tad. And the cardbacks too was another
- 20:22thing because if you're a Masters of
- 20:24Universe fan, like the cardback was part
- 20:26of the greatest
- 20:28uh I guess I can say things about Master
- 20:31Universe was the art, right? The
- 20:33cardback itself, the art and the boxes.
- 20:35That's what make that's what made MOTU
- 20:37great. Part of the reason it made great,
- 20:38but like so that they continued that
- 20:40with with the Origins line. And so that
- 20:42made it really special. The problem in
- 20:45my opinion, I want to hear this from you
- 20:46with the origins that everything got
- 20:47really expensive really quick and then
- 20:49they kind of ran out of characters to
- 20:51use.
- 20:52>> Yeah. So, first of all, I agree with you
- 20:54100%. Um, you know, one of the one of
- 20:56the best things about the Origins line
- 20:58is that they they kept the the tradition
- 21:00of amazing artwork, right? First of all,
- 21:02they kept them on the classic cards, the
- 21:03exploding rocks, the blue sky, um you
- 21:06know, all that wonderful um aesthetic
- 21:08for Master Universe, really connecting
- 21:10the the old school fans uh back to it,
- 21:12but still allowing for younger fans to
- 21:14to get into it. Um and of course, the
- 21:18great artwork. And bravo to all the um
- 21:20all the designers and the illustrators,
- 21:21you know, Roy Wararez and and his team,
- 21:23you know, those those guys are really
- 21:24killing it. Um,
- 21:26for for for the line though, I sort of
- 21:31like, you know, you could see where it
- 21:32was heading. Um, at at first it was one
- 21:35of the most the one of the most
- 21:36affordable collector lines ever. I think
- 21:38it like it started like $14, right? It
- 21:41started really cheap, really, really
- 21:43great to collect, easy to collect,
- 21:44right? And actually, that's why I was
- 21:46buying multiples at the time, uh,
- 21:48because I was like, it's never going to
- 21:49be this cheap ever again. Um, and uh, it
- 21:52was great, but obviously a year or two
- 21:54into it, they uh, they obviously upped
- 21:56it up to about $16 and then it went to
- 21:59$18. Um, so yeah, but it's still
- 22:03reasonable compared to like a 6-in
- 22:06figure. You know, the five and a quart
- 22:085.5 in figures were still good. They
- 22:09still had great pretty decent
- 22:10articulation. So, I wasn't so upset
- 22:14about collecting the line uh, at that
- 22:16point either. Uh, but you know, when it
- 22:19finally cames down comes down to it,
- 22:22they pretty much pulled it from shelves.
- 22:24I think after the I'd like to say the
- 22:27third year, fourth year. And that was
- 22:29upsetting, right? Cuz one of the biggest
- 22:31things I enjoyed, and you probably saw
- 22:33it, uh, Lawrence, when when I when I
- 22:35walked into Walmart and I finally found
- 22:38them for the very first time, that was
- 22:39like euphoria, you know what I mean? I
- 22:41saw them and I I think I was shaking. I
- 22:43think I was actually shaking when I saw
- 22:45them.
- 22:45And it was just it just this wave of
- 22:47emotion came back to me. Uh here here we
- 22:49didn't have like Walmart didn't come to
- 22:51come to Canada very early. It came like
- 22:52later in the 90 in the in the late 80s
- 22:5590s and but we had Wulco right? You you
- 22:58you guys probably remember Wworth uh way
- 23:01back. Yeah. So WCO was kind of like
- 23:03Wworth. So, we had Wulco and I remember
- 23:07that was that was my that was my place,
- 23:09man, because uh they would always be
- 23:10fully stocked with Master Universe and
- 23:13it was a lesser degree when I finally
- 23:15found them uh on at at Walmart cuz
- 23:17literally they would only have one like
- 23:19one or two sets, you know what I mean?
- 23:21And if you didn't get there early, they
- 23:23were gone. You know what I mean? Like
- 23:24that's why that's why the hunt was so
- 23:26important back then, right? And I say
- 23:28back then, it was only like five or six
- 23:29years ago, right? But still, it was it
- 23:31was it was really important to get there
- 23:32early and to find it as soon as you
- 23:34could.
- 23:35>> Let me ask you about Deluxe figures
- 23:37because I have this pet peeve with
- 23:39deluxe figures. I am not a huge fan. Not
- 23:40there because I don't like the figures
- 23:41cuz I do love them. But like from a
- 23:44display purpose, cuz I am a Minton card
- 23:46collector. So, if I'm going to buy and
- 23:48open, I'll open one and then keep one.
- 23:50But for the most part, I collect Mint on
- 23:51card because I just think it displays
- 23:53better, especially with MOTU because of
- 23:55the iconicness of the artwork. So, are
- 23:57you a deluxe guy? Because to me, I am
- 24:00not a fan of all the extra stuff they
- 24:02include with this stuff. And the box
- 24:03figures too, like Moss Man. I would love
- 24:06to see a Moss Man on car just for
- 24:07nostalgia purposes.
- 24:10So, my stance on on Deluxe is just
- 24:15because of the way it is. I I I have to
- 24:18collect them, right? They're This is
- 24:19This is part This is part and parcel of
- 24:21of what Moto is. Um, but those cards are
- 24:25just because of the the the absolute
- 24:28weak cards that they put on them.
- 24:29They're they're terrible. Like it's it's
- 24:31hard to find a pristine, especially if
- 24:33you're an on on card collector. Um, it's
- 24:36hard to find a pristine version without
- 24:37some ding corners or, you know, of a a
- 24:40gouge. It's really difficult because
- 24:41they're massive cards compared to
- 24:43compared to the regular sized cards,
- 24:45right? They're they're double side,
- 24:47right? like like Hurricane Hord, sorry,
- 24:49Buzzar Hordack um was, you know, his his
- 24:51his card was almost always mangled.
- 24:53Ramman's card was almost mangled. Clamp
- 24:55Champamp's card was almost mangled,
- 24:57right? So, finding a good a good one in
- 24:59great condition is very rare. The the
- 25:02boxed versions, yeah, I'm not a fan. I
- 25:04I'll be I'll be straight up and say I'm
- 25:05not really a fan. But, I mean, do I
- 25:07appreciate the extra uh accessories?
- 25:10Yeah, I do. I do. Um, especially when it
- 25:12comes to Cyclone because Cyclone was my
- 25:14absolute favorite. Um, you know, uh,
- 25:17gimmick-wise. I loved his gimmick. You
- 25:19know, basically using him and just like
- 25:20spinning him as fast as I could with my
- 25:21thumb. That was so much fun. And the
- 25:23fact that they actually brought that
- 25:24back, I thought that was awesome. I
- 25:25thought that was really cool.
- 25:27>> Um, but you're right, in terms of
- 25:29uniformity, in terms of like um, you
- 25:31know, how I collect. Yeah. I I would
- 25:34have preferred if it was just on the
- 25:35card, very much like classics where
- 25:37Classics has all the classic cards. You
- 25:39know what I mean? like well not classic
- 25:41cars did they the original classics had
- 25:42this you know weird box thing right but
- 25:44but they were all uniform like you knew
- 25:46when you got a classics that that's how
- 25:48it would look
- 25:48>> right um and then later on when super 7
- 25:52got a hold of it then they were doing
- 25:53the classic cards and I was like holy
- 25:54crap this is awesome
- 25:57so that seems to be a good segue into
- 25:59the the reason probably everyone is
- 26:01listening to this podcast right now and
- 26:02that is the new Masters of the Universe
- 26:04movie I can't tell you Jay how many
- 26:07freaking comments and questions I get on
- 26:10the videos that I put out about why this
- 26:13movie is on Earth. People are still
- 26:14excited about it. Don't get me wrong,
- 26:15getting a lot of positive stuff, but I
- 26:17think the fact that this movie is at
- 26:19least partially taking place on Earth
- 26:21has a lot of people upset. What is your
- 26:23take so far of what we know about the
- 26:26film, especially that part of it,
- 26:28because I want to try to ease some minds
- 26:29out there if we can.
- 26:32>> Um, okay. So [laughter]
- 26:36I' I've made no bones about uh how I
- 26:38feel about the Earth connection. Um I am
- 26:40when when when the first reports started
- 26:42coming out from like Deadline and things
- 26:44like that. I remember reading the by
- 26:46line the very first time. Uh and I was
- 26:48like what the f man [laughter] that was
- 26:51the that was my actual reaction. I was
- 26:53like why why and I and I'm reading I'm
- 26:56reading the actual synopsis. I'm like I
- 26:59was like Prince Adam is snatched away
- 27:01from his home. uh and crash lands on
- 27:04Earth in a spaceship. I'm like, what is
- 27:06this? Superman? Like I I was I was like
- 27:08this like who who put who cobbled this
- 27:12together? Like I was I was literally
- 27:13like this is nuts. Why would you do this
- 27:16again with the Earth? Right. And I said
- 27:18this on a couple on my on my own
- 27:20streams. I was like what is what is
- 27:22Hollywood's reliance on tween or kids
- 27:26movies having to have some sort of of of
- 27:28human connection with Earth? Like it it
- 27:31just boggles my mind why they insist on
- 27:33like including human kids. Uh you know
- 27:36like um uh what's it called? Um uh
- 27:39freaking Cox there, right? She she the
- 27:42original movie, right? Um
- 27:44>> Courtney Cox, right? Uh I was not trying
- 27:47to imply anything on that one, but
- 27:48Courtney Cox, [laughter]
- 27:49right? And uh and Robert Dougl McNeel,
- 27:52who ended up being on on Star Trek
- 27:53Voyager, you know what I mean? What what
- 27:55was their what was their freaking
- 27:57fascination with having these two kids
- 27:59and this crazy back story about how her
- 28:02parents are, you know, gone and he's the
- 28:06only connection he's got left and she's
- 28:08leaving town and it was just this weird
- 28:10like just like why? Like it's just it
- 28:13was so confusing. None of the kids
- 28:14watching that movie, including myself,
- 28:15were like who are these kids? Why do I
- 28:17care? Right? It it it it brought me
- 28:20these crazy flashbacks of the of the
- 28:21filmation Christmas movie and I was like
- 28:23why
- 28:24why are we watching Earth kids uh you
- 28:27know interacting with with Eternians it
- 28:29was just so weird. I mean seeing He-Man
- 28:31running around in the buff you know in
- 28:32in the streets of New Jersey or wherever
- 28:34the heck he was it's you know it's
- 28:36amazing he wasn't being arrested as a
- 28:37flasher. You know what I mean? Um but
- 28:40there was some awesome moments in the
- 28:42film uh for the original 1987 film like
- 28:44I want an action figure of Lubik. I need
- 28:47Mr. Strickland in my life like you know
- 28:49what I mean like like James Tolken
- 28:52amazing actor whether he's playing a
- 28:54freaking admiral on a ship or uh you
- 28:57know what whatever whatever role he's
- 28:59he's in he freaking he slays that role
- 29:01because he's always the same guy every
- 29:03single freaking he's like um he's like
- 29:05Samuel L. Jackson but you know like like
- 29:08a bald a middle like a bald older guy
- 29:10[laughter]
- 29:11you know what I mean? like like middle.
- 29:12He's he's like he's like the the the
- 29:14paler version. Like literally they're
- 29:16they're they're two different shades.
- 29:17You know what I mean? It's freaking
- 29:18awesome. Um but uh but my thoughts about
- 29:23um the film in general in terms of the
- 29:25Earth connection just Travis Knight, I
- 29:27don't know who I don't know who you had
- 29:29to please to actually get that green
- 29:31lit, but you know what? Get it out of
- 29:33the film as quick as possible. Like make
- 29:35it make it a five minute segment,
- 29:37whatever it is, but get them off get
- 29:38them off Earth as fast as possible. But
- 29:41that's probably not going to happen.
- 29:42It's probably going to be more like 15
- 29:43minutes of the film, which is, you know,
- 29:45the quicker they get off of there, the
- 29:46better. But I'm looking at the cast and
- 29:50two ca two names come up very
- 29:51specifically. They're very Tan names and
- 29:54I'm pretty sure those are his like those
- 29:55are his best friends on earth. Uh but uh
- 29:59fun fun little thing that I noticed in
- 30:01the credits. Um the actor playing Fisto,
- 30:05right? He has an he has an attorney name
- 30:08and he has a Terran name. So, I'm
- 30:11wondering if he didn't get dragged to
- 30:13Earth alone. I'm wondering if Fisto was
- 30:16sent as a guardian to protect him and
- 30:19actually he has some sort of connection
- 30:20with his uncle Fisto, right? Um, and
- 30:23maybe he's the one telling him about his
- 30:24his his his lineage and who he really
- 30:27is, right? And then finally at some
- 30:30point they find the sword of power and
- 30:32they're both whisked back to Eternia
- 30:33somehow. I'm not really sure, but I
- 30:36think it's really cool that, you know,
- 30:38they're trying to weave this little
- 30:39story here. But my my my absolute number
- 30:42one wish is to get off of Earth as
- 30:44quickly as humanly possible.
- 30:47>> Mike is here. Mike, how you doing?
- 30:49>> I'm good. How are you guys?
- 30:52>> Fantastic. So,
- 30:54>> yeah, thanks for joining us. Um, so
- 30:56we've talked about MOTU a little bit,
- 30:57like the toy line, how we grew up with
- 30:59it, you know, what we first loved about
- 31:00the toy line, but we're talking about
- 31:01the movie now. And I'm bringing you in
- 31:03here because I have to hear from you as
- 31:06well. I just asked Jay this question. A
- 31:10lot of people freaking out about the
- 31:12movie taking place on Earth. So, I want
- 31:14to hear from you. What do you think? You
- 31:17know, is it that as bad as everybody
- 31:19seems?
- 31:19>> I mean, I just heard Uncle Fisto. So, I
- 31:21hop in and I'm hearing [laughter]
- 31:23and I'm like, "Uncle Fisto." Okay. Uh,
- 31:27yeah. Um, obviously I don't want it on
- 31:29Earth. That's that any Masters Universe
- 31:32fan will tell you they don't want it on
- 31:34Earth. Uh, but you know, it is what it
- 31:37is. The 87 film took place on Earth.
- 31:40Maybe it's some kind of throwback to
- 31:43that, but uh, you know, I'm hoping it's
- 31:46a short and sweet process of them being
- 31:48on Earth. you know, it's probably going
- 31:50to be the the first of three acts kind
- 31:52of thing where um according to the
- 31:55synopsis, you know, I don't want to
- 31:56spoil it for anybody, but an accident
- 31:59happens or a tragedy happens that leads
- 32:02to him going to Earth. It's not like uh
- 32:04apparently what we first thought where
- 32:07it was the Superman story of him being
- 32:09sent to Earth. No, something something
- 32:11happened that caused him to to go to
- 32:14Earth, not um wasn't sent there on
- 32:17purpose kind of thing. So, uh yeah,
- 32:21maybe that Fisto was was in this ship as
- 32:24well because yeah, uh I think I heard
- 32:26Jay talking about in the credits, right?
- 32:27He's got a an Earth name as well as um
- 32:31his Attorneyian name. So,
- 32:34that would be kind of cool, I guess. But
- 32:37again, with Earth, it no one really
- 32:40wants to see it. [laughter] So, the
- 32:43shorter they make it, the the better the
- 32:45movie I think will be.
- 32:46>> So, I'll ask both of you this and one of
- 32:48you guys can go first, but like it's not
- 32:50going to ruin the movie for you guys,
- 32:51right? You've been waiting for this for
- 32:52a long time. It's not going to ruin the
- 32:53movie for you, right?
- 32:55>> Definitely not.
- 32:56>> No.
- 32:56>> Jay,
- 32:57>> uh, the reality is I've been waiting for
- 32:59like I want Mass Universe on the big
- 33:01screen like everybody else. And and no
- 33:03matter what, no matter how it starts as
- 33:06and and you know what, uh we we've seen
- 33:08a lot of different promotional material
- 33:09now. And when I see Battlecat on the
- 33:11screen, I think I'm going to faint. Like
- 33:13that that that that I think is is is
- 33:15probably the biggest thing. I've been
- 33:16waiting for a Battlecat.
- 33:17>> I would agree.
- 33:18>> And uh and and if I see Oracle, I think
- 33:20I'm going to faint, too. Like seriously,
- 33:22I think I will. There's things we've
- 33:23never got to see on the big screen
- 33:25because of budget, because of technology
- 33:29that they can now bring to the big
- 33:31screen. And seeing that kind of stuff
- 33:33for the first time will blow my mind to
- 33:36the point where I'll be like, "What
- 33:38about what?" Like, once they hit, I will
- 33:41have like short-term memory loss of what
- 33:44had just previously happened and be all
- 33:46in.
- 33:49So, a lot of people also in my comments
- 33:52have been like shocked that there's been
- 33:53no mention of Orcco. You know, we had
- 33:56that like totally CGI character we think
- 33:58is going to be Beastman. I said that
- 33:59before. How disappointed would you be if
- 34:02either of those two characters weren't
- 34:04in the film? And I'll add Merman to that
- 34:06as well because I feel like he's an
- 34:07iconic character that, you know, from
- 34:10the cartoon, from the toy line, like he
- 34:11has to be a part of it. So iconic about
- 34:13being Skeletor's one of his main
- 34:15henchmen.
- 34:17Yeah, definitely. Um, Beastman is one of
- 34:21the original eightbacks, so I feel like
- 34:23all those characters need to be in the
- 34:25film. Uh, you know, Merman, Beastman,
- 34:29Stratos, I think Zodak would be the only
- 34:31one I'd be okay with that not that
- 34:33didn't get into the film.
- 34:36>> And we we got that little bit of an
- 34:37inkling, too. I don't know if you guys
- 34:38remember like on that whatever that
- 34:40platform is that we saw that from the
- 34:42leaked photos that there's a picture of
- 34:43Zodak there among who we think is B and
- 34:46some other characters but what about you
- 34:48Jay how disappointed would you be?
- 34:51[sighs]
- 34:52>> I mean cuts have to be made. I totally
- 34:53get that. Um the pro the pro the problem
- 34:55is we we we have been hearing all these
- 34:58all these rumors and and leaks from from
- 35:00different places like you know what
- 35:02happened at Cineacon uh in Las Vegas and
- 35:05things and people were saying that uh a
- 35:07a production trailer was made and and
- 35:09people were like so blown away at the
- 35:10fact they were seeing uh you know so
- 35:12many characters that they were naming
- 35:13off Tricops you know web store this guy
- 35:16that guy everybody and Goatman and you
- 35:18know it's it's like okay they're talk
- 35:21they're calling everybody out but
- 35:22they're not calling out Beastman and and
- 35:24and Oracle. But the reality is I wonder
- 35:26a lot of those people who saw it might
- 35:28not actually be, you know, real He-Man
- 35:31fans. I mean, they might have remember
- 35:32something from He-Man. They might
- 35:34remember something from Mass Universe,
- 35:35but obviously they're not as they're not
- 35:37as connected as us. Maybe Beastman was
- 35:39there. They didn't realize he was there,
- 35:41right? Maybe Orcco was was actually
- 35:43there and they'd be like, "Oh, what's
- 35:44who's that little guy?" Right? Because
- 35:46people's memories tend to tend to fog
- 35:48over and stuff like that, right? I'm
- 35:49hoping that that's actually the case and
- 35:50they were actually there and that it
- 35:52would be and I'm hoping that the first
- 35:54trailer that's dropped, the first thing
- 35:55we see is freaking Oracle casting a
- 35:57spell. I think I think that would be
- 35:58really really cool. Um, and it would
- 36:00really funny if they just did an entire
- 36:02my name like I'm Adam, Prince of
- 36:04Eternia. That would be hilarious.
- 36:05>> I am Adam, prince [music] of Eternia,
- 36:08defender of the secrets of Castle Grey
- 36:10Scum. This is Cringer, my fearless
- 36:13friend.
- 36:14>> I think it would be it would go really
- 36:15well
- 36:16>> with the I think that would go really
- 36:17well with the fans. I think that that,
- 36:20you know, how they do mock mock
- 36:21commercials. I think that would be
- 36:23hilarious and I think it would be and it
- 36:25wouldn't be out of the realm for Travis
- 36:26Knight to do something like that. I
- 36:27think he probably would would definitely
- 36:29be something some tongue-in-cheek kind
- 36:30of idea with that. So, but how
- 36:33disappointed would I be? I think I would
- 36:35get over it. Um, but yeah, I mean, Beast
- 36:38Night is a very much a um a pivotal
- 36:40character. He was in the 87 movie,
- 36:43right? Or being replaced by Guildor.
- 36:45Guildor is one of my favorite
- 36:47characters. So, you know, I'm hoping
- 36:48that if Orcco doesn't show up, like will
- 36:50the world make a cameo um or something
- 36:53along those lines, but definitely I
- 36:55would love absolutely love to see Orcco.
- 36:57I think Orcco is is is very much um a
- 36:59part of the Master Universe lore and he
- 37:02should be there, but if they're not, it
- 37:05would take me a while, but as long as
- 37:06the story is good, I think that uh I
- 37:08think we can keep moving. So, I
- 37:10>> I'm I'm the opposite of you guys. He has
- 37:12to be in the movie. Orco has to be in
- 37:13the movie because he is such like just
- 37:15from the cartoon like how he he him and
- 37:18Cringer were were Adam's best friends
- 37:20like they never did anything outside of
- 37:22each other. So like having the three of
- 37:23them together and you can add man at
- 37:24arms in that as well because of how
- 37:27protective he was of Adam and then Tila
- 37:29was that kind of opposite almost like
- 37:30that big sister was kind of like almost
- 37:33doineering towards Adam but like his
- 37:35group were those four characters you
- 37:37know him man-at-arms Orcco and Cringer.
- 37:39So, I feel like those characters, they
- 37:41need to keep that kind of groove that
- 37:43those guys had together because that's
- 37:44that's really a big part of of Masters
- 37:46of the Universe in my opinion. But I'm
- 37:48just praying that that that we get
- 37:50Orcco. I'm glad we're getting a battle
- 37:52cap because that's going to be awesome.
- 37:53The transformation I think is what
- 37:55everybody is looking forward to that
- 37:57first time he raises the sword and says
- 37:59it. But, uh, one other question I I
- 38:02wanted to ask you guys, and I'll have a
- 38:03lot of questions about the film, but
- 38:05let's talk about the look. We got that
- 38:07that snippet of of him as E-Man from
- 38:10behind. What did you think of that? And
- 38:13would you have done anything differently
- 38:15or are you pretty happy with the way it
- 38:17looks?
- 38:17>> I'm I'm still waiting. Uh because
- 38:19because the cutup actually showed more
- 38:22than than we'd ever seen uh the standup
- 38:24that was the Sandy that was at the um
- 38:26the um the licensing trade show um uh
- 38:30that that was that was reported by
- 38:32hemania.com.
- 38:33Um, so the overall design of Battlecat,
- 38:37the over design of of He-Man, those are
- 38:39still, by the way, um, as we found out,
- 38:41those those were just production
- 38:43>> concept, right?
- 38:44>> Yeah, they're concept art. They they
- 38:46weren't 100% solid. So, it's still in
- 38:48the realm of what is actually going to
- 38:50be. Um, but examining it, lightening it
- 38:54up, looking at it, it's amazing how
- 38:56close to the Mondo um original He-Man
- 39:01action figure it actually looks. Um, in
- 39:04terms of like the leather, it's not
- 39:06really it doesn't look like a a fuzzy
- 39:08loin cloth. It looks more like a a
- 39:09leather strap, you know, kind of like um
- 39:12kilt. Uh, and the gauntlets he's wearing
- 39:16look almost identical. like you know
- 39:18when we when we took a closer look there
- 39:19they all almost identical to the to the
- 39:21Mondo design. So I don't even know maybe
- 39:24Mondo actually had some consulting we
- 39:26don't know right but
- 39:31um
- 39:32should he have been like the Dolph Dolph
- 39:36Lendin? Should he have been Arnold
- 39:37switcher? Should he have been you know
- 39:39like a gigantic mass of a man?
- 39:44I mean part of me wants that. You know
- 39:46what I mean? Like I've always thought
- 39:48that Arnold Schwarzenegger was He-Man. I
- 39:50always thought that. And I think even
- 39:51Arnold Schwarzenegger believed that he
- 39:52was human. Um, but
- 39:56do we need that?
- 39:58I think that I have to see it. Number
- 40:01one. Number two, if it's done well, and
- 40:05I've seen some of the rehearsals for the
- 40:06fights. I wonder how many fights we're
- 40:08going to get. You know what I mean?
- 40:10Rehearsing fights is one thing. Actually
- 40:11seeing them on screen is a completely
- 40:13different thing.
- 40:13>> Yeah. So,
- 40:16I can honestly say I don't know yet. I
- 40:18really don't know yet. But that shot
- 40:20from behind was not helping at all
- 40:22because it's backlit. Uh, half of the
- 40:24bleed makes him look skinnier than he
- 40:25really is. I hope.
- 40:27>> Right. But from what I'm seeing right
- 40:30now, the work he's put in because again,
- 40:32when I the last time I the first time I
- 40:33ever saw Nicholas Gallazine and even not
- 40:36even knowing who he was, he was a skinny
- 40:38surfer dude that I as far as I could
- 40:40tell. like he he has it's it's getting
- 40:42to that Chris Hemsworth kind of idea
- 40:44where when you first saw Chris
- 40:45Hemsworth, he was literally like a
- 40:46surfer dude. He was like a really skinny
- 40:48guy, but he put the work in and he
- 40:50became this like absolute beast. Is that
- 40:52going to be Nicholas Gallatine? I don't
- 40:54think so. Like I think he's going to be
- 40:56a lot thinner frame, but is he going to
- 40:58be is he going to be more muscular? Hell
- 41:00yeah. 100% he's going to be more
- 41:02muscular. But is he going to embody what
- 41:04we believe to be as the most powerful
- 41:07man in the universe? I think Dolph tried
- 41:09his best and he did look pretty ample.
- 41:12Um, but I don't think that I don't think
- 41:14Galaxian is going to get that big. So,
- 41:18I still have to see it. I still have to
- 41:20see it. But I'm hoping I'm hoping for
- 41:21the best. I really am.
- 41:22>> Before I let you answer, Mike, I got to
- 41:24say that even Longren, he was very lean
- 41:26in that movie. He was big, but he's a
- 41:28big dude, but he's he was still too too
- 41:30lean in that movie for me. So, Mike, go
- 41:32ahead. What What was your first
- 41:33impression on that photo?
- 41:35>> I mean, not good. I I did I agree with
- 41:38Jay where he was, you know, the back lit
- 41:40it looked like someone took that with a
- 41:41cell phone and was just a poor quality
- 41:44just all around. He looked small. Um but
- 41:48seeing some of the, you know, him and in
- 41:51the gym doing his little flex and things
- 41:54like that, you know, there's hope. And
- 41:57if you go back and you watch the
- 41:58Filmation series, the Filmation He-Man,
- 42:01which is kind of the aspect of this
- 42:02movie looks like it's going for, he's
- 42:05not crazy, you know, Brian Cage built
- 42:09like, you know, he's not ripped out of
- 42:12his his gourds here. He's uh he's very,
- 42:15you know, um fit, I guess, is the best
- 42:18word, right? Like he's he's cut, but
- 42:21he's not huge. And uh you know, you
- 42:24don't have to have like yeah, you're
- 42:26going to still be the strongest man.
- 42:28Like I mean, in the Filmation series,
- 42:29he's picking up boulders and stuff. And
- 42:31I'm sure I'm my fingers are crossed they
- 42:33have to have that signature boulder
- 42:35throw in the movie. [laughter]
- 42:38Um but again, you know, that can be
- 42:42done. It's like he's got super strength
- 42:43like a Captain America kind of thing
- 42:45going on, right? He's got the power. So,
- 42:48you know, I'm okay with him not being
- 42:51crazy huge. Although, you know, yeah,
- 42:54the toy line, that's how he is. But I
- 42:57think this is kind of playing more to
- 42:59the Filmation cartoon. And as long as
- 43:01they keep that again, kind of like what
- 43:02Jay's saying, I have to see it. But I
- 43:06think I'll be okay with it.
- 43:08>> We didn't get much of the costume in
- 43:09that photo. Like like Jay mentioned, the
- 43:11almost kiltlike
- 43:13garb that he's wearing,
- 43:15>> that Roman kind of look to it, right?
- 43:17Yeah.
- 43:18>> And [snorts] the chest armor, we didn't
- 43:19get a good look at either outside of
- 43:20that, you know, that that merchandise
- 43:23stand that we got or wherever that was.
- 43:25Uh we didn't see anything from the
- 43:26front. All I we did see there are
- 43:28leather straps, you know, holding that
- 43:30chest armor together. I'm still hopeful
- 43:32that we'll get some kind of, you know,
- 43:34metal on the front of that thing. And
- 43:36obviously the the cross is is a huge
- 43:38thing. I've said that before about lore
- 43:40of He-Man. I was not a fan of that 200X
- 43:43He-Man symbol. Even now, like they've
- 43:45kind of altered it into the big H. I'm
- 43:47not a huge fan of it either. So, uh,
- 43:49talk about that a little bit. Like, what
- 43:51are your guys, you know, thoughts on the
- 43:53symbol?
- 43:55>> I mean, I'm a big Iron Cross fan as
- 43:57well, but I don't mind the H. Honestly,
- 43:59I'm a big battle armor fan and the
- 44:01battle armor had the H on it, so it kind
- 44:04of, you know, that kind of symbolizes
- 44:06that. I know that it's not the battle
- 44:08armor. They just made it smaller on
- 44:09there. Um the 2000X one, yeah, is kind
- 44:13of wonky. And then I'm not a fan of like
- 44:15the new CGI with the two swords or
- 44:17whatever that made. That one I wasn't a
- 44:19fan.
- 44:21>> Yeah, I'm um I mean I I love I love the
- 44:24Cordite. I love the the Cordite cross.
- 44:28>> They're so iconic to human. They really
- 44:30are. And people try to make this
- 44:32connection with the Iron Cross, right,
- 44:35from uh from World War II. That's
- 44:38ridiculous. That that's just a a dumb
- 44:40connection all all around. Um the the
- 44:43the cross itself, you know, if if you
- 44:46want to put in some sort of religious
- 44:47overtones, it is what you make of it.
- 44:49That's really that's really what it
- 44:50comes down to. But at the end of the
- 44:52day, it is iconically He-Man. Would I be
- 44:55disappointed if it didn't make it on
- 44:56screen? Kind of. Uh well, no. I would
- 45:00really be disappointed. But just like
- 45:02the original 87 movie, they replaced
- 45:04everything with like, you know, dragon
- 45:06heraldry, which kind of which was kind
- 45:09of neat. Um, but would I have would I
- 45:11have would I have loved to see the
- 45:12iconic um iron cross? Yes. Would it kill
- 45:16me if I saw an H instead of a a cross?
- 45:20It would be definitely be one of those
- 45:22moments. I'm like, wow, it's He-Man,
- 45:23right? They had the big H thing, right?
- 45:26Um, but I I I if it if if the if the
- 45:30action is good, if the story is good, I
- 45:32would get over it pretty quickly. But
- 45:33yeah, I would love to see the Iron Cross
- 45:35one.
- 45:38>> All right, so switching gears a little
- 45:40bit, but still talking about the movie
- 45:41story-wise. Okay, this has been a big
- 45:43topic of discussion, especially on my
- 45:45channel, because I've I've kind of
- 45:47theorized how I think things may go for
- 45:49this movie, and I could be totally off,
- 45:50but I feel like a lot of people like
- 45:52really are trying to piece everything,
- 45:54the little bits that we have gotten into
- 45:56like a story that may formulate out on
- 45:58formulate on screen. So, I don't know if
- 46:01you guys have watched any of the stuff
- 46:02that I put out, but I kind of theorized
- 46:04that obviously Adam gets to Earth
- 46:06somehow. We don't really know how that
- 46:08happens, right? You know, Mike brought
- 46:09up a good point with or actually Jay put
- 46:11up a good point with Uncle Fisto
- 46:12possibly going over to Earth with him.
- 46:15Makes sense. Uh, we did get those
- 46:17pictures of Tila on Earth running with
- 46:19Adam. So, I always I kind of piecing it
- 46:23together is that we also got that CGI
- 46:25character also on Earth, which I'm
- 46:27claiming is Beastman that we don't know
- 46:29yet. But
- 46:29>> yeah,
- 46:30>> I've been kind of trying to piece
- 46:32everything together and I've come up
- 46:33with like what I think may happen is
- 46:35Adam is sent to Eternia for somehow.
- 46:37They're saying it's an accident now that
- 46:39that's come out a little bit. Okay.
- 46:41However they find him, I think Skeletor
- 46:43probably knows where he is or maybe he's
- 46:45looking for that power sword that is
- 46:46also on Earth. Adam happens to be there.
- 46:49Attorneyia knows that he's there
- 46:51obviously. So there Tie is there. They
- 46:53send Tila. I'm hoping Orcco kind of goes
- 46:55with her cuz that also follows the, you
- 46:57know, the the the story lines from the
- 46:59cartoon. So I'm kind of piecing that
- 47:01together. And then finally they have to
- 47:02realize that they have to bring Adam
- 47:04home to protect him and the sword. and
- 47:07that's where it kind of takes off and
- 47:08and he finds out he's He-Man, stuff like
- 47:11that. So, that's what I've kind of
- 47:12pieced together. I don't know if any of
- 47:14it makes sense, but how about you guys?
- 47:18That's a great theory. I think uh you
- 47:21know, him being sent to Earth. Um
- 47:24possibly Fisto is there as well kind of
- 47:26as a protector. Uh I definitely agree
- 47:29with you. I think that giant CGI, I
- 47:30mean, the ball was like 4 feet above the
- 47:33guy's head. You know, that's a pretty
- 47:35big character. So, I would love to see a
- 47:37giant beast man just towering, you know,
- 47:39200x kind of style where he's so huge.
- 47:43Um, and then yeah, and then sending Tila
- 47:46down with Orcco, that would be
- 47:47fantastic. Uh, obviously I'm a big Orcco
- 47:50fan, right? [laughter]
- 47:51Um, I would love to see him, you know,
- 47:54and as much of the movie as possible.
- 47:56And then bringing him back. Yeah, I
- 47:58think there was um
- 48:01kind of when that drone was flying over,
- 48:03there was that shot of him being
- 48:05captured by it looked like Skeletor and
- 48:08possibly and Skeletor was in street
- 48:11clothes, right? So
- 48:13>> maybe he's he may or Adam is brought
- 48:15back to Eternia by Skeletor, let alone,
- 48:19you know, Tila.
- 48:21I have I have a hunch about why he's in
- 48:23street clothes there and and it's
- 48:24because for CGI reason and and if you
- 48:26notice in that picture and it's a really
- 48:28bad picture. It's far away, but his face
- 48:30is like totally whited out,
- 48:32>> right?
- 48:33>> So, I I have a feeling that's all for
- 48:34CGI purposes, but at least that's what
- 48:36I'm hoping that's going through my head.
- 48:38But what about you, Jay, about uh
- 48:39story-wise?
- 48:41>> Yeah, I mean, anything can happen. Um,
- 48:43so um, you know, Evelyn and and Skeletor
- 48:45being being sorcerers, sorcerers and
- 48:47sorceresses. Um, you know, it could just
- 48:50be an astral projection, you know what I
- 48:52mean, where they're where they're trying
- 48:53to trick him into into revealing uh
- 48:55certain things, but they they have
- 48:57figured out who he is, right? Um, so
- 48:59basically, you know, they they bring him
- 49:01into some sort of like astral plane,
- 49:03right? Where they show him, you know,
- 49:05may maybe they're walking around Earth,
- 49:07uh, kind of like Allah uh Loki, right,
- 49:10in in Thor, you know, when, uh, when
- 49:12when Thor's captured and he goes and
- 49:14he's got this trench coat on, right? Uh,
- 49:16he looks very human, but in reality,
- 49:18he's just playing around trying trying
- 49:20to trick Thor, right? I think they're
- 49:22borrowing from a lot of different um
- 49:24movies and and tropes, right, for for
- 49:27movies that have come before. But that's
- 49:28easy because that's actually how you do
- 49:29it in films. Um, but in terms in terms
- 49:33of what I I can I can follow the the the
- 49:35the story you're figuring out. Um, 100%
- 49:38I I would think that, you know, the fact
- 49:39that Tila is on Earth, she definitely
- 49:41was sent there to try and to try and
- 49:43wrangle him back. Um, either that or
- 49:45it's just a freaking stupid nod to the
- 49:47original 87 film, which is just
- 49:48hilarious. Um, but but yeah, I I I would
- 49:52like to think that that's that's more
- 49:53along the lines of what's actually going
- 49:55to happen. And I would love it if Orgo
- 49:57was actually with Tila. I think that
- 49:58would be freaking awesome. And maybe,
- 50:00you know, maybe he's his his magic works
- 50:02better on Earth. Or maybe it doesn't.
- 50:03Who knows? Um, and of course, yeah, it
- 50:05would be great if we just see Beastman
- 50:07just lumbering around, jumping and
- 50:09trying to catch them. It would be it
- 50:10would be really cool to see that. So,
- 50:12um, you know, I think that would be
- 50:14great. I think it'll be awesome.
- 50:17>> Let's segue into hemania.com. So, I need
- 50:20to tell everybody out there,
- 50:23hemania.com. Uh before this it was for
- 50:26eternia.com so that made the switcheroo
- 50:28but how did you guys get involved with
- 50:31uh heia.com and I got to ask do you know
- 50:33where they're getting their their info
- 50:35from because they're breaking every
- 50:36piece of news for He-Man out there right
- 50:39now and it's great. It's great. Shout
- 50:40out to them.
- 50:42Um, I'll let I'll let Mike take a quick
- 50:45stab at this, then we'll [laughter]
- 50:46we'll get to the we'll get this part.
- 50:48But
- 50:48>> I mean, the the way I got involved with
- 50:51hemania.com was um the site runner AJ uh
- 50:55reached out to me and was saying that he
- 50:58had a new project which was a podcast
- 51:00that he wanted to do called the attorney
- 51:03of four. And at first he wouldn't even
- 51:05tell me who was involved. He just said
- 51:06like, "Oh, I'll tell you once everyone
- 51:08else agrees." And I'm like, "Well, you
- 51:10know, four guys talking about Masters
- 51:11Universe. Yeah, I'm in like doesn't even
- 51:13I don't care who it is. Um, so this was
- 51:18I think May I want to say, right?
- 51:20Somewhere around there. And uh he got us
- 51:24on when he told me it was Mega J. And
- 51:27then it's Shane from Powerhouse
- 51:29Animation who, you know, helped make
- 51:31Revolution Revelation. Uh I was over the
- 51:34moon. Was like, "Wow, like these guys
- 51:38are all really talented and then I'm
- 51:39just a fanboy over here." But, you know,
- 51:41it was it was really cool to be a part
- 51:44of it. Um, and it's still ongoing. So,
- 51:47you know, we've become close over the
- 51:49past few months and, uh, yeah, I've just
- 51:52really enjoyed it. Kind of made new
- 51:54friendships through that. You know, the
- 51:55reason Jay and I became a little bit
- 51:57closer as well. Um, as far as how he
- 51:59gets his stories,
- 52:01he's got connections. I don't know what
- 52:02to tell you. I mean, I can't I don't
- 52:04know what those are. I can't really go
- 52:05into that, but he's uh he's, you know,
- 52:08got some people that bring him stories
- 52:12because they know uh he's the the spot
- 52:15to to get it out.
- 52:16>> Uh yeah, I'm I'm very much a similar u
- 52:20vein on that segment. Um, but I think
- 52:23Mike left out the the fact that we knew
- 52:26AJ from before like like you know we've
- 52:28been we've been following all I've been
- 52:29following um for attorney.com for quite
- 52:32some time and um at some point um
- 52:37>> inevitably you reach out and say hi and
- 52:39AJ is very nice. He actually reaches out
- 52:41back and says hey uh cool to meet you
- 52:43and you know um you know is is a very
- 52:46cool dude right? So and then eventually
- 52:48he just came around and said hey would
- 52:49you like to be on a podcast? I'm like,
- 52:50"What's a podcast?" Right? And um and uh
- 52:55so uh you know, I was actually I wasn't
- 52:58really joking actually. Uh but but he's
- 53:00like, "You know, do you want to be a
- 53:01part?" I said, "Is that is that a
- 53:02YouTube thing?" He's like, "No, it's a
- 53:03radio thing." I'm like, "What? Is it
- 53:05radio?" I was like, "All right,
- 53:06whatever, man." Like, "Cool. Let's let's
- 53:08do it." Right. And um
- 53:10>> and yeah, he wouldn't tell that's the
- 53:11word. That's the craziest part. He
- 53:12wouldn't tell us who's in the in the
- 53:14podcast. I was like, "Okay, who's in the
- 53:15podcast?" He's like, "I'll tell you when
- 53:16everybody says it." I was like, "What?
- 53:17Really?" I was like, "Okay, fine.
- 53:18Whatever. I don't care." talk about
- 53:20He-Man. Sure, why not? And then I found
- 53:22out, yeah, it was uh it was it was Shane
- 53:24and and uh and Mike and I was like,
- 53:26"Cool." Uh you know, I know I kind of
- 53:28know those guys. Let's let's do this,
- 53:30right? And and it was fun. And it's
- 53:32still fun, right? Actually, we're going
- 53:33to be doing a segment right after right
- 53:34after this segment. Um and shortly
- 53:38thereafter, um we meaning Mike and
- 53:42myself. Um no, this was actually when it
- 53:45was still called for attorneyia.com. Uh
- 53:47but shortly thereafter um Mike and
- 53:50myself started talking because I was
- 53:52heading over to San Diego uh for San
- 53:54Diego Comic- Con and Mike and I just had
- 53:57this crazy No, actually no, I didn't
- 53:59have the crazy I was just enjoying
- 54:00myself, you know, doing the foronia
- 54:02stuff and then Mike decides to tell me a
- 54:06crazy story and I'm gonna let Mike tell
- 54:08you that that crazy story and then we're
- 54:09going to explain why He-Mania.com is is
- 54:12now a thing uh with our current project.
- 54:16I think that's probably the best way to
- 54:17go about it. So, Mike, tell this great
- 54:19story you're telling everybody now.
- 54:20>> Um, yeah. I mean, so there was one day
- 54:24after doing our podcast um where, you
- 54:30know, we were all just chatting about
- 54:32and uh everyone was getting ready to
- 54:33sign off and I was talking with Jay. Um,
- 54:36we were talking actually about YouTube
- 54:38stuff cuz I was trying to get my YouTube
- 54:39up and going and we started talking
- 54:42about him coming out for San Diego
- 54:43Comic- Con and me being able to see him
- 54:45meet in person and be able to hang out
- 54:47and um, we were talking about cons. And
- 54:50I told him, "Man, I miss Power Con. That
- 54:52was my favorite con even more so than
- 54:54San Diego Comic-Con." And I told him,
- 54:57you know, when it moved to Ohio, I
- 54:59actually went online one night. This was
- 55:01like December of 2021 and I I started
- 55:04this Kickstarter calling it Masters Con
- 55:07and started I'm like if I could throw a
- 55:10con, what would I want? And I started
- 55:11putting all this stuff in to
- 55:13Kickstarter. I submitted it and
- 55:16Kickstarter kicked it right back to me
- 55:18the next day and they're like, "Yeah, we
- 55:21that's a great idea, but it's a little
- 55:23too bare bones," they said. And uh I
- 55:27kind of had this realization of like
- 55:30what am I doing? like I don't know what
- 55:31I'm doing. How can I throw a con? Like I
- 55:33have no experience. And Jay responds and
- 55:36goes, you know, I have experience
- 55:39throwing cons. I've actually done this
- 55:41several times in Canada. And he's like,
- 55:45right now actually would be a perfect
- 55:47time for a Masters Universe con. There's
- 55:49a movie next year
- 55:52and there's toys and at the time we
- 55:54didn't even know there's now video game,
- 55:55but we at the time we didn't even think
- 55:57about that. And he's like, "What do you
- 55:59think?" He's like, "Do you you you think
- 56:01you'd be up for like doing this for
- 56:03real?" And I'm like, "Uh, check." Yes.
- 56:07This is my dream. Yes. Uh, so then we
- 56:10took it to uh AJ and Shane and started
- 56:13talking to them and they were like,
- 56:15"Man, that's really cool." And that's a
- 56:17great idea. You guys are crazy.
- 56:19[laughter]
- 56:20We took it to Toy Habits and we started
- 56:22talking with Michael and Toy Sorceress
- 56:24and and they were like, "That's really
- 56:26cool. You guys are crazy.
- 56:29It was always there was always the crazy
- 56:30part [laughter]
- 56:31that never end never stopped. It was
- 56:33like you guys are nuts,
- 56:34>> right?
- 56:34>> So,
- 56:35>> so then Jay kind of gave me this
- 56:36checklist and uh you know finding a
- 56:39hotel and and making sure you know uh
- 56:43starting a business basically and things
- 56:45like that. And um I I just went through
- 56:48and started checking everything off. We
- 56:50did a soft launch uh soft announcement
- 56:54um on the toy habits stream saying,
- 56:56"Hey, we're doing this thing, you know,
- 56:59and all of a sudden people were like,
- 57:03"Can I help? I know this person. I I I I
- 57:06actually used to work at PowerCon. I
- 57:08would love to help." I And it was funny
- 57:11because at first Jay and I were like,
- 57:13"We need to build a team. You know,
- 57:15we're going to have to start looking
- 57:16around." We didn't have to look at all
- 57:18like literally people were coming to us
- 57:22it and it was really cool to see that
- 57:24from the community like
- 57:27this vision I've had is really filling a
- 57:30hole that a lot of people had and um
- 57:35it's just really fun and you know
- 57:38humbling honestly to be spearheading
- 57:40this uh new project that we're doing
- 57:42that's
- 57:44um yeah it's even hard to like speak
- 57:46about because it's like my dream come
- 57:48true honestly. It's just so crazy that
- 57:50this is happening.
- 57:51>> All right. So So let me go from there.
- 57:54You you got you got the idea now.
- 57:56>> Yes.
- 57:56>> You want to do this He-Man powered
- 58:00convention.
- 58:01>> What happened after that? You got the
- 58:02idea. You went to Jay. Jay said, "Let's
- 58:04do this." You got some backing of some
- 58:05other people in the community. What
- 58:07happens now?
- 58:08>> So then it became, okay, I don't have
- 58:11the kind of funds to just throw a con.
- 58:13And Jay's like, "Well, me neither, but
- 58:16you know what?" He's like, "Let's come
- 58:18up with some fundraising ideas." And and
- 58:20we came, we had uh Google Meets with
- 58:23like, you know, 12, 15 people throwing
- 58:26out all kinds of ideas. Jay's talking
- 58:28about selling his collection at one
- 58:30point. He even made a video and he's
- 58:31like sends it to us. He's like, "What do
- 58:33you think about this?" And we're like,
- 58:34"Whoa, whoa, whoa. No need to sell your
- 58:36collection." Like, "No, no, no." Um, and
- 58:40>> hey, you know what's you got to make it
- 58:41happen, man. Yeah, that's true. Like we
- 58:43were I was right there with you. I was
- 58:45going to start selling stuff too and you
- 58:47know I didn't want to but I'm like hey
- 58:49if this is going to make it real then it
- 58:52is what it is. Uh but no, we got a lot
- 58:55of great feedback and it seemed like
- 58:56going back to Kickstarter was the the
- 58:58the way to do it. It brought a sense of,
- 59:01you know, legitimacy to it and people
- 59:03feel comfortable like, okay, I can put
- 59:06my money into this site and feel like
- 59:09it's secure, right? Not just like
- 59:11PayPaling Jay and I or something, you
- 59:13know? [laughter] So, uh, it it and we
- 59:16could really tell our story there. uh
- 59:18which I thought you know Jay's amazing
- 59:21with the the um
- 59:24digital platforms you know he's website
- 59:27design and graphic designer and you know
- 59:29really being able to just tell you guys
- 59:32what we have planned and um it's it's
- 59:37really come together uh the response to
- 59:39the Kickstarter has
- 59:42just again left me speechless where I've
- 59:45been shocked at the response
- 59:47Uh we're doing really great. We're about
- 59:49halfway through and we've already hit uh
- 59:52we're about to hit our second uh
- 59:54stretch.
- 59:54>> So, you know, Lawrence, it's actually uh
- 59:57crazy. We we actually have a a clip
- 1:00:00actually if you want to if you want to
- 1:00:01see it uh of of where uh we actually hit
- 1:00:05our first goal in under six hours. It it
- 1:00:09was it was humbling and shocking and and
- 1:00:11we're hugely grateful to the community
- 1:00:14for uh for helping us reach this
- 1:00:16milestone. And this this is this is a
- 1:00:18funny clip because um
- 1:00:21>> yeah, I'm not even on it because I was
- 1:00:22so unexpected. We
- 1:00:24>> you'll see. We bring like in afterwards,
- 1:00:26but you'll see this this is a fun clip.
- 1:00:28Literally like, well, you know what? I I
- 1:00:29I I went to Kickstarter. I did this and
- 1:00:31this and this. I'm like, huh?
- 1:00:34Oh my god. Oh my Oh my god. Oh my god.
- 1:00:38Oh my Oh my Oh my god. Oh my god.
- 1:00:44Get him on a
- 1:00:47>> This IS
- 1:00:49[screaming]
- 1:00:51[laughter]
- 1:00:55like sitting on my couch and we were
- 1:00:57talking about going live in like another
- 1:01:00hour and then we were we were so close.
- 1:01:04I
- 1:01:05know. Uh Jay's like, "Let's let's get
- 1:01:07on. Let's let's get on for the for the
- 1:01:10we knew it was going to happen."
- 1:01:11>> So yeah, we we were we were completely
- 1:01:13flabbergasted that would happen in in
- 1:01:15just under six hours. And and it was it
- 1:01:17was an incredible moment and and we
- 1:01:19really have uh the community to thank.
- 1:01:21As a matter of fact, if we if we if we
- 1:01:23head over to um uh the actual uh
- 1:01:26Kickstarter itself, um you can actually
- 1:01:29see that it's um it's hit a goal of
- 1:01:3212,000. Oh wow. Oh my god. We actually
- 1:01:35jumped.
- 1:01:36>> Holy.
- 1:01:37>> Are we over 13?
- 1:01:38>> And look. Oh my god. Look at that.
- 1:01:42>> 32.
- 1:01:43>> Oh my god. 13. We We We've We We've
- 1:01:46We've broken the $13,000 mark, guys.
- 1:01:48Holy crap.
- 1:01:49>> Oh my god. That was That's incredible.
- 1:01:52>> That is incredible. Thank you to
- 1:01:53everybody who has been
- 1:01:55>> backers now.
- 1:01:56>> Thank you so much for for everybody who
- 1:01:58supported this project. This has been an
- 1:02:00absolute incredible incredible
- 1:02:02experience. Like seriously, we we we're
- 1:02:03we're so humbled by this. Yeah, we we we
- 1:02:05quickly reached our our first stretch
- 1:02:07goal like a few days later and now we're
- 1:02:10well on our way to our third stretch
- 1:02:11goal. So, this has just been an absolute
- 1:02:14incredible um um experience and oh my
- 1:02:17god, we're we're Hold on, hitting
- 1:02:19refresh. We are down to our
- 1:02:23>> Yeah, I was going to say there's got to
- 1:02:24be only a like 20some left of the
- 1:02:27founders package then.
- 1:02:28>> There's only 27 founder founder packages
- 1:02:30left. So,
- 1:02:32These are going these are going crazy.
- 1:02:34Like this is this is nuts. So
- 1:02:36>> So for the the if the people are
- 1:02:38listening on the podcast on Spotify, on
- 1:02:40Apple Podcast, so they've ra so far and
- 1:02:42it just jumped while we're we're filming
- 1:02:44this to $13,218
- 1:02:47which is wild. So kudos to you guys. And
- 1:02:51I got to ask you, what is the ultimate
- 1:02:54goal as far as dollar-wise to get this
- 1:02:56thing done?
- 1:02:58So, we have several stretch goals um
- 1:02:59that we would like to get accomplished,
- 1:03:02and it's all thanks to the community. We
- 1:03:04have surpassed our $10,000 stretch goal
- 1:03:06already. Um and it's it's it's all
- 1:03:09thanks to to everybody who's helped uh
- 1:03:11to to helped us to get here. We have a
- 1:03:13number of guests that uh that have
- 1:03:14already signed on. But, um to your to
- 1:03:17your to your question, Lawrence, first
- 1:03:19of all, the $5,000 threshold helped us
- 1:03:21to secure the venue. So, a huge thanks
- 1:03:23to everybody who helped us to get there
- 1:03:25in under six hours. You guys are
- 1:03:27absolutely incredible. It was it was
- 1:03:29just amazing and and we were gobsmacked
- 1:03:31when it happened. Our $10,000 stretch
- 1:03:33goal allowed us to secure additional
- 1:03:35rooms in the venue. Uh we were able to
- 1:03:37get breakout rooms and um um places that
- 1:03:41our our our guests can have keynote
- 1:03:42speaking engagements and and just meet
- 1:03:45and greets. It's it's amazing. We were
- 1:03:47able to to reach the $10,000 stretch
- 1:03:49goal. And today, as you just saw,
- 1:03:51hitting 13,000 plus. Now we're actually
- 1:03:54over the $13,000 mark. Um, we're only a
- 1:03:57few thousand short of our $15,000
- 1:04:00stretch goal. And this will allow us to
- 1:04:02actually get to the next level where
- 1:04:04we'll be able to secure additional
- 1:04:05spaces for even larger activities. The
- 1:04:07doors will open to new exciting
- 1:04:08experiences like cosplay zones, uh, uh,
- 1:04:11hands-on costumeuming workshops, guest
- 1:04:13speakers, uh, who have worked on Mass
- 1:04:15Universe projects, and special toy
- 1:04:17guests who brought our favorite action
- 1:04:18figures to life. This is my favorite one
- 1:04:20because I'm huge into cosplay and I
- 1:04:22really want to be able to invite a lot
- 1:04:24of cosplay guests who can help people to
- 1:04:26really uh you know get get their uh
- 1:04:28their cosplay uh goals in mind. If you
- 1:04:30want to share this this uh this screen
- 1:04:32again um uh Lawrence I can show the the
- 1:04:36sorry I was I was uh I can show the
- 1:04:39actual there we go. So um yeah I was
- 1:04:42just I was a wrong one. So I was I was
- 1:04:44just moving through uh these goals here.
- 1:04:47So, like I said, uh the the we already
- 1:04:49passed our our first venue uh stretch
- 1:04:51goal at 5,000. So, huge thanks to
- 1:04:53everybody for that. The $10,000 stretch
- 1:04:55goal. I just spoke about that a little
- 1:04:57earlier. And of course, I I just spoke
- 1:04:59about the $15,000 stretch goal, which we
- 1:05:01uh are hoping to reach very soon. And
- 1:05:03we've already broken through the $13,000
- 1:05:05mark. So, we're very close to our
- 1:05:07$15,000 stretch goal. So, a huge shout
- 1:05:08out to everybody who's helped to make
- 1:05:10that happen. At $20,000, this one, I
- 1:05:14think, is Mike's favorite. So Mike, why
- 1:05:15don't you go ahead and and talk about
- 1:05:16the $20,000.
- 1:05:17>> Yeah. So with the $20,000 stretch goal,
- 1:05:20this is going to allow us to kind of
- 1:05:22reach out to the bigger names. Um you
- 1:05:25know, we want big name guests, right?
- 1:05:28And you know, people that worked on
- 1:05:30Masters Universe that are not just I
- 1:05:32mean the reason we're doing this a lot
- 1:05:33of this is in LA because there's a lot
- 1:05:36of the talent in LA. So travel costs
- 1:05:39will be minimal. But with that being
- 1:05:42said, there are people that worked on it
- 1:05:43that you know are in other parts of the
- 1:05:46country, possibly even international
- 1:05:48that we would love to bring and of
- 1:05:51course we need funds for that, right? So
- 1:05:54with the hitting the 20k, we'll be able
- 1:05:56to a lot some of the funds from that to
- 1:05:59go towards bringing in those kind of
- 1:06:01guests. As well as we really want to
- 1:06:03look into screening uh the 87 Masters
- 1:06:07Universe film, possibly maybe the Secret
- 1:06:09of the Sword 2000X cartoon.
- 1:06:13>> And of course, we are the ultimate goal
- 1:06:15is as as you asked uh Lawrence is is
- 1:06:1725,000. If we can reach our $25,000
- 1:06:20stretch goal, it allows us for
- 1:06:22everything to happen. Like the maximum
- 1:06:24amount of space that we can get for this
- 1:06:26event and there's even more space in the
- 1:06:28hotel that we've uh we've secured. Um
- 1:06:31and more guests, more space, more
- 1:06:33activities, you know, high-profile
- 1:06:35guests, the the at 25,000 everything
- 1:06:38becomes a reality. And um you know,
- 1:06:40we're hugely I felt to everybody who's
- 1:06:42already supported us and we're very very
- 1:06:44close to $15,000. So that that only
- 1:06:46means that another $10,000 after that we
- 1:06:48probably could uh you know fulfill all
- 1:06:51of our expectations and and really help
- 1:06:53to make this the best Master Universe
- 1:06:55convention, Master Universe convention.
- 1:06:57Uh because we do want Thundercats, we do
- 1:06:59want Silverhawks, we want all the other
- 1:07:02properties to join us, but this will
- 1:07:03definitely be a Masters Universe
- 1:07:05convention 100%.
- 1:07:07>> So you guys mentioned before about um
- 1:07:09founders set what or founders
- 1:07:11recognition sets. What exactly is that?
- 1:07:14So the founders recognition set is um
- 1:07:17the one of the rewards that we'd like uh
- 1:07:19to offer anyone who's who's willing to
- 1:07:21um fund the project for uh with us. And
- 1:07:24what that entails uh is uh we would like
- 1:07:27to recognize um people who are uh in the
- 1:07:30community who are wanting to bring this
- 1:07:32um project to life. Um the founder
- 1:07:35recognition set is in recognition and
- 1:07:36thanks uh for the people who are the
- 1:07:39first adopters who are making this
- 1:07:40happen. Um you we want these founders to
- 1:07:43rec be recognized and they receive a
- 1:07:46Motuniverse founders VIP badge and
- 1:07:48lanyard. So this gives you early access
- 1:07:50to the event uh front light access to
- 1:07:52all guests and featured attractions and
- 1:07:55all access to all after hours um
- 1:07:57attractions as well. Uh the want to give
- 1:08:01them a commemorative certificate. So
- 1:08:02actually I'll I'll bring these up.
- 1:08:04You'll get the VIP uh badge and lanyard.
- 1:08:07We do have a founding members medallion
- 1:08:10which is a substantial medallion. It's
- 1:08:1450 mm in size. It's very beautiful. It's
- 1:08:17actually uh goldplated and it's not
- 1:08:20really goldplated. It of course is just
- 1:08:21gold shiny um paint, but uh but it is
- 1:08:24beautiful and uh it's a a true it's a
- 1:08:28metal coin. It's not just um it's not
- 1:08:30just a 3D printed coin. It really is a
- 1:08:32metal coin. Uh it does say founding
- 1:08:34members medallion in recognition and
- 1:08:36thanks and on on the other side of the
- 1:08:38reverse we have a a different artwork
- 1:08:39which we're still working on uh
- 1:08:41presently. Uh and of course all the
- 1:08:43members names who are founding members
- 1:08:45and there's only 100 sets which is why
- 1:08:48we alluded to earlier we only have about
- 1:08:5027 left uh right as as of as of this
- 1:08:53moment. And uh the plaque recognizes uh
- 1:08:56the founding member who actually um you
- 1:08:58know uh put uh their efforts for this uh
- 1:09:01for this um crowdfund. And of course
- 1:09:04they will be immortalized on a plaque
- 1:09:05which will be hung uh at the convention
- 1:09:08and the Howard Halls of Castle Grey
- 1:09:10Skull. Uh and of course on our website
- 1:09:12as well as hemania.com. They've also um
- 1:09:16said that they will actually have this
- 1:09:18founders members uh list of names on on
- 1:09:20their website as well uh for as long as
- 1:09:22as all the sites are up and as long as
- 1:09:24the convention is going. Uh it also
- 1:09:26includes a t-shirt. Um all this artwork
- 1:09:29is is is to be determined. This is not
- 1:09:32finalized artwork. It's just in
- 1:09:33position. And a founders members
- 1:09:36commemorative pin. Only founding members
- 1:09:38get this pin and it is a recognition and
- 1:09:40thanks uh for their efforts of the
- 1:09:42founding members. Now this pin if you
- 1:09:43wear it during the convention uh we will
- 1:09:46salute you with a good journey every
- 1:09:48time we see you and recognize [laughter]
- 1:09:49the pin as of course you are founding
- 1:09:52members. It's it's just our way of
- 1:09:54saying thank you and recognizing just
- 1:09:55how special you are uh to the
- 1:09:57Motuniverse event. So that's one of the
- 1:10:00ways that uh people can support. We also
- 1:10:01have other options. I mean we do have a
- 1:10:04regular pin which is pretty much just
- 1:10:05the mountainse logo that's for $10. We
- 1:10:09also have the Motuniverse mug at $25.
- 1:10:11Uh, a number of people have already
- 1:10:13started to back that. We also have the
- 1:10:15Multuniverse regular t-shirt. This is
- 1:10:17not the founding member shirt. It's just
- 1:10:18a regular t-shirt, but it does look
- 1:10:20nice. And we have a wonderful set of
- 1:10:21designs on this. It's not final artwork.
- 1:10:23And then we also have the VIP package.
- 1:10:26Now, this is very important because the
- 1:10:28VIP package for the Kickstarter is an
- 1:10:30exclusive price for the VIP set, which
- 1:10:33will not be offered outside of a
- 1:10:35Kickstarter. As you can see here, it is
- 1:10:37a Kickstarter exclusive price at $60
- 1:10:40where the regular price is $100. Once,
- 1:10:43and this is for early adopters who wish
- 1:10:45to support the event uh through
- 1:10:47Kickstarter, we really appreciate all
- 1:10:49your support and your help. Uh once the
- 1:10:51Kickstarter is over, it will revert back
- 1:10:52to the $100 price tag. So, this is your
- 1:10:55only chance pretty much to get it at a
- 1:10:57$60 instead of a $100 uh VIP. Uh, with
- 1:11:00the VIP uh, badge, you get a VIP badge
- 1:11:03and lanyard, one hour early access to
- 1:11:05the exhibit floor on Saturday, early
- 1:11:07access to all events, priority access,
- 1:11:09meet and greet, signings and featured
- 1:11:11attractions, access to our after hours
- 1:11:13programming, and a a single Motuniverse
- 1:11:16pin, which is not included with the VIP
- 1:11:18badge. Uh, this one's only available for
- 1:11:21uh, the VIP package. Um, now this is not
- 1:11:23the founders badge, the founders pin. It
- 1:11:25is the regular uh, Multiverse pin. But
- 1:11:28again, uh an excellent value at $60
- 1:11:31instead of a $100 VIP ticket. So, uh
- 1:11:34again, this is all in early. These are
- 1:11:37all for early adopters and people who
- 1:11:38want to help uh to help fund this event
- 1:11:41uh before it even before we start
- 1:11:42selling tickets and have any anything.
- 1:11:44We're really grateful to the entire
- 1:11:46community for helping us along with
- 1:11:47this. And the response has been, as you
- 1:11:50as you know, the response has been
- 1:11:51mind-blowing. Uh so, we really hope that
- 1:11:54we can reach our $25,000 goal.
- 1:11:56So, first and foremost, I got to tell
- 1:11:58you, I love the name Motuniverse. I
- 1:12:00think that's fantastic. I I when I saw
- 1:12:02it, uh that's one of the reasons why I
- 1:12:03reached out to you guys to kind of have
- 1:12:05you on the podcast talk about this a
- 1:12:06little bit. But it's such a great idea
- 1:12:09to kind of have a Masters of Universe
- 1:12:11centric con of its own cuz I don't think
- 1:12:14people out there realize how popular
- 1:12:16this IP really is from the people out
- 1:12:19there over in Germany, which I know it's
- 1:12:21huge. United States is huge. Canada is
- 1:12:23huge. So, like bringing everybody
- 1:12:25together for this, I think is going to
- 1:12:26be amazing. I do have a couple
- 1:12:28questions. Uh, for the people out there
- 1:12:30listening who do listen to my channel
- 1:12:32for Masters Universe, the um the $150
- 1:12:35package, you said there's 27 left. That
- 1:12:37that's separate from the VIP package,
- 1:12:39correct? So, there's no need to buy both
- 1:12:40or is there a need to buy both?
- 1:12:42>> No. Uh, well, Mike, you want to take
- 1:12:44this one?
- 1:12:45>> Yeah. So, the the founders package comes
- 1:12:48with a founders VIP pass. So, you're
- 1:12:51technically a VIP, but even
- 1:12:53>> like more
- 1:12:55>> uh recognized because the founders VIP
- 1:12:57pass will be separate than the VIP pass.
- 1:12:59It's going to there's only going to be a
- 1:13:01hundred of them that'll say like you're
- 1:13:03a founder. Um, but
- 1:13:05>> on the pass itself, it actually has a
- 1:13:06design, a wonderful design.
- 1:13:07>> We're going to have a design on the pass
- 1:13:09itself as well as, you know, you got
- 1:13:10your little lapel pin, too, you can have
- 1:13:12on your lanyard. Uh, so we'll easily
- 1:13:14recognize you or you can wear your shirt
- 1:13:16and then you really recognize that
- 1:13:17you're a founder. Um, but you know,
- 1:13:20we're going to recognize everybody
- 1:13:21honestly and all the VIPs because I'll
- 1:13:23see the VIP passes and I'll I'm gonna
- 1:13:25still be thanking them just as much
- 1:13:27because everybody that's contributed to
- 1:13:29this
- 1:13:30>> um has been immensely helpful. Um, but
- 1:13:33yeah,
- 1:13:33>> but there is no but there is no need to
- 1:13:35buy the VIP and the founders package.
- 1:13:38You can just buy the one if you if you
- 1:13:39only need one, you can just buy the one.
- 1:13:41>> Yeah.
- 1:13:41>> Is there a limit on the I was say is
- 1:13:44there a limit on the VIP? No limit,
- 1:13:46right? There's
- 1:13:47>> no there's no there's no limit on the
- 1:13:48VIP. So,
- 1:13:48>> do you guys have a date yet or is that
- 1:13:51too far out of the woods?
- 1:13:52>> No, no, we do. Uh if you if you'd like
- 1:13:53to share the um if you'd like to share
- 1:13:55the uh the screen again. Uh heading over
- 1:13:57to our heading over to our website. Uh
- 1:14:00you can see here that it will be held at
- 1:14:02the Torrance Marriott in Roondo Beach,
- 1:14:04California, May 23rd and 24th, 2026.
- 1:14:06That is Memorial Day weekend and we are
- 1:14:09very excited to be partnering with um
- 1:14:11the Torrance Marriott. Uh a little bit
- 1:14:13of history on this. It actually was uh
- 1:14:15the venue for Power Con many times. So,
- 1:14:18a lot of people have fond memories of
- 1:14:20this uh of this um location.
- 1:14:22>> 2012 to 2018 Power Con was held in that
- 1:14:25place.
- 1:14:26>> And we, as you can see, we are counting
- 1:14:27it down 26 days, 14 hours, and 5 minutes
- 1:14:30left to go. And if anybody wants, they
- 1:14:32can sign up for the mail list. They can
- 1:14:33get the the the most up-to-date
- 1:14:34information. And anybody who wants to be
- 1:14:36a vendor because I know that's probably
- 1:14:38another question you have, Lawrence. Uh
- 1:14:40they can just type in the message here
- 1:14:41that I would like to be a vendor and we
- 1:14:45will add you to our vendor list and uh
- 1:14:47then give you information once it's
- 1:14:48available.
- 1:14:50>> Any idea on how many like vendor spots
- 1:14:52there'll be or is that's too far you
- 1:14:55know to know that? We have an we have an
- 1:14:56idea but that is a floating number as as
- 1:15:00the as as as we mentioned earlier as the
- 1:15:02pledges continue to roll in additional
- 1:15:04spaces get to open up.
- 1:15:05>> Yeah. So
- 1:15:06>> so you know as the kick exactly as we
- 1:15:08raise more funds with the Kickstarter
- 1:15:09that allows us to get more space and
- 1:15:11with more space we want to have more
- 1:15:13vendors.
- 1:15:14>> You guys heard it here first right? This
- 1:15:16is a con strictly for Masters of the
- 1:15:19Universe. Going to be held at the
- 1:15:20Torrance Marriott, Roondo Beach,
- 1:15:23California, May 23rd and 24th, 2026.
- 1:15:27Literally one month before the movie
- 1:15:30comes out. How hype is everybody going
- 1:15:32to be at this thing, man? That the fever
- 1:15:35is going to be pitched. I could already
- 1:15:37see this thing going to be a wildly
- 1:15:39successful venture for you guys because
- 1:15:42I don't think anybody understands like
- 1:15:44the momentum that He-Man and the Master
- 1:15:46Universe has right now. Mattel even said
- 1:15:48it, we touched on it earlier, me and UJ
- 1:15:50about, you know, toy prices starting to
- 1:15:52kind of kick off things for Mattel a
- 1:15:54little bit, you know, with Masters
- 1:15:55Universe. So, I think it's starting,
- 1:15:57man. I really do. I'm really excited for
- 1:16:00the things you guys are putting
- 1:16:01together. He media.com obviously and now
- 1:16:04Motuniverse, man. I'm super stoked. So,
- 1:16:06anything else you want to tell uh anyone
- 1:16:08listening to the podcast about Mo
- 1:16:10Universe before we kind of end the show?
- 1:16:13>> You know what? We just hope you guys
- 1:16:14will uh help support the event and uh
- 1:16:16the Kickstarter. Just uh search on Mo
- 1:16:19Universe on Kickstarter. It'll come up.
- 1:16:21It uh it's actually uh trending on on
- 1:16:24Kickstarter because we reached our goal
- 1:16:25so quickly. Um and we want to thank
- 1:16:27everybody out there who who has
- 1:16:28supported us so far. And uh keep those
- 1:16:31pledges rolling in, guys, because the
- 1:16:32more uh support we receive, the the the
- 1:16:35bigger the events we get. We are even
- 1:16:37possibly in talks. I'm not going to
- 1:16:39confirm or deny uh for maybe some
- 1:16:41exclusives, and I'm not going to tell
- 1:16:43you who the exclusives are from, but uh
- 1:16:45possibly we have some very exciting
- 1:16:47exclusives for the show uh that are
- 1:16:49coming up and guests. If you'd like to
- 1:16:51become a sponsor here on the Mighty
