- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes six fifty No. Six forty nine
- 0:15Speaker 1: through six fifty one. In these episodes, we find out
- 0:21Speaker 1: what the relationship is between Rebecca and the toy Soldier,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and I'm a lot more comfortable with this. Thank God, Siri,
- 0:31Speaker 1: lean me alone. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the
- 0:53Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 0:56Speaker 1: Florian for commissioning this episode. Sorry about that. Sometimes my
- 1:02Speaker 1: watch will hear me like activating Siri, even though I
- 1:08Speaker 1: have not, and it happens all the time, and sometimes
- 1:11Speaker 1: it is truly hilarious, you guys. One time I was
- 1:15Speaker 1: like leaning on my wrist. I said, like something went wrong,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and I just went ball sack and sirih is like
- 1:23Speaker 1: ball slack is a slang term for the like sack
- 1:27Speaker 1: of flesh that holds the testicles under the penis. And
- 1:30Speaker 1: I was like, thank you, Siri, thank you. It's very hopeful. Ah.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So if you didn't know that was a slang term,
- 1:42Speaker 1: you're welcome, thank Siri. So these episodes are a lot
- 1:47Speaker 1: more informative. I'm excited, guys, because it's very funny to
- 1:51Speaker 1: me that, like after the way the toy soldier acted
- 1:56Speaker 1: as if he was about to tell Frankie this like
- 1:59Speaker 1: sad story. He isn't even the one who tells it
- 2:03Speaker 1: to us. It turns out to be fucking Rebecca telling
- 2:07Speaker 1: Looviy the thing, which I don't know, guys, it just
- 2:12Speaker 1: feels like a weird like we got sort of Oakie
- 2:17Speaker 1: doped a little bit, just an odd decision to make,
- 2:20Speaker 1: But it's fine whatever. It's just funny because I really
- 2:24Speaker 1: thought it was gonna be this guy that told us,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, so this, I'm gonna I'm gonna not jump
- 2:33Speaker 1: right into that. I'm gonna back up a little bit
- 2:35Speaker 1: because due to the like some of the plot points,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I feel like going in order is going to be
- 2:42Speaker 1: a lot better. So we have Loofy and chin Jao fighting,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and we finally get like hin Zhao explaining what happened
- 2:56Speaker 1: to his He had this like drill kind of point
- 3:01Speaker 1: on his head that apparently Lufy his grandfather punched it
- 3:09Speaker 1: flat and it just indented again, and Lufy is eventually
- 3:18Speaker 1: spoilers able to punch it back out so that the
- 3:24Speaker 1: drill is back, which leads to this guy being very
- 3:31Speaker 1: grateful to Loofy, but like Lufy is so I guess
- 3:37Speaker 1: sick of dealing with this dude, that he doesn't give
- 3:41Speaker 1: him the chance to fully explain why he is pursuing
- 3:47Speaker 1: him after the fight. So Lufy perhaps understandably is just
- 3:54Speaker 1: under the impression that this guy is running after him
- 3:57Speaker 1: to keep this fight going. And I really this guy's
- 4:03Speaker 1: story and the way that his his like drill gets
- 4:10Speaker 1: punched flat. I know that later on in this trio
- 4:15Speaker 1: of episodes, we have the whole thing with poor Rebecca
- 4:21Speaker 1: and her mother dying and her shaking her mother saying
- 4:25Speaker 1: please wake up, and that that's very sad and terrible.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I would simply like to state that for the record,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Hinjau waking up and not being able to find his
- 4:38Speaker 1: drill on his head and then bashing his head into
- 4:42Speaker 1: the ice repeatedly is the saddest thing that has ever
- 4:47Speaker 1: happened on this show. This was so devastating, and it's
- 4:53Speaker 1: like I definitely get that, it's really not you know,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I know that, but like there is something about the
- 5:00Speaker 1: way that this is played and how I kind of
- 5:06Speaker 1: was expecting that his men would like abandon him or
- 5:09Speaker 1: something like they would be well, you know, now he
- 5:12Speaker 1: doesn't even have his head drill, like he can't be
- 5:14Speaker 1: the boss anymore, so bye bye, and that they would
- 5:18Speaker 1: bail on him, and instead they it seems like pretty
- 5:25Speaker 1: much stay by his side. And I I don't know why,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but just this whole thing felt so much more pathetic
- 5:38Speaker 1: and so much you guys know that, Like when Chin
- 5:43Speaker 1: Shao wasn't part of the fight before, I was basically going, yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 1: but where's Chin Shao? Though, Like, let's bring this guy back.
- 5:49Speaker 1: This fight is getting boring. We're dealing with the same
- 5:53Speaker 1: couple people with the same types of shit talk over
- 5:56Speaker 1: and over again. Let's get the old man in here
- 5:58Speaker 1: who has some shit going on, who brings some dignity
- 6:02Speaker 1: to things. And then he started crying and I was like,
- 6:04Speaker 1: I don't know about this, but once I heard this story,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I was like, no, he has every right to cry, absolutely,
- 6:11Speaker 1: And it's very funny when he's talking to Loofy and
- 6:16Speaker 1: just like, don't you know what it means what your
- 6:19Speaker 1: grandfather did? And Lufy's just like, no, I don't know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: because all you keep doing is trying to fight me
- 6:25Speaker 1: and you're not explaining anything. And so he says, so
- 6:30Speaker 1: you would like to know what really happened to me,
- 6:33Speaker 1: And there's this pause and then Lufy says, well, when
- 6:36Speaker 1: you put it like that, no, I honestly cackled at
- 6:44Speaker 1: that one, y'all. I really did think that was funny,
- 6:46Speaker 1: just the whole vibe of it, of like, oh, I mean, no,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I mean, I'll yell at you for not communicating the thing,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but that's like I don't want you to communicate the
- 6:56Speaker 1: thing either. I don't I would rather not either way,
- 7:02Speaker 1: So anyway, you know. He he tells Lufy this story,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and eventually we have like this this back and forth
- 7:13Speaker 1: between them where Lufy is so fed up with listening
- 7:19Speaker 1: to this guy that he decides to pull all of
- 7:23Speaker 1: the stops out now. At first, he does this thing
- 7:27Speaker 1: where he like spins Chinjau on his head like a top,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and Loofy uses his gumgum power to like wrap his
- 7:35Speaker 1: entire armor so he looks like a spool of thread,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and as Loofy pulls his arm back, he unspools and
- 7:41Speaker 1: begins to spin wildly. But we finally get the ultimate
- 7:47Speaker 1: punch where this dude's still in the midst of like
- 7:52Speaker 1: I've held onto my rage toward Garp for thirty years
- 7:55Speaker 1: and I'm finally going to be able to take it
- 7:58Speaker 1: out on you. And you see this like plate starting
- 8:02Speaker 1: on his head that's clearly meant to be the the
- 8:07Speaker 1: oh my god, armament hockey. And as this is appearing
- 8:12Speaker 1: on his head, nobody seems to really be noticing that
- 8:16Speaker 1: Lufy's entire arm is also covered in armament hockey, and like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: maybe you need to be a little bit more concerned
- 8:26Speaker 1: that his thing is like seven times the size of
- 8:29Speaker 1: yours and that the rest of your body apparently is
- 8:32Speaker 1: like not protected. So he gets like into position, he
- 8:41Speaker 1: shoots upward and is heading straight for Loofy, who does
- 8:47Speaker 1: elephant gun punches this man in the head. There's an
- 8:53Speaker 1: explosion of like lightning that I think is meant to
- 8:57Speaker 1: be just the contact between the two of them, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're hockey fighting against one another, and Chinjau clearly was
- 9:06Speaker 1: not expecting to be pushed back the way that he
- 9:09Speaker 1: starts to be, and uh, Loofy, I kind of wondered
- 9:14Speaker 1: for a second because he gets this expression on his
- 9:16Speaker 1: face and I was like, oh shit, is he about
- 9:18Speaker 1: to like break, you know, is he about to lose?
- 9:23Speaker 1: And instead it's I think his face is reacting to
- 9:28Speaker 1: the fact that this guy's head is changing under his
- 9:31Speaker 1: fist and that he can feel it happening. So this
- 9:34Speaker 1: guy's drill comes back and correct me if I'm wrong,
- 9:40Speaker 1: But it looks way pointier and sharper than it even
- 9:43Speaker 1: used to look. And Bruh falls head first toward the
- 9:48Speaker 1: platform in the colisseum, breaks it in half, and then
- 9:54Speaker 1: falls into the crack into the water, which means he
- 10:00Speaker 1: has won. But I'm pretty sure Chinzhau would rather have
- 10:07Speaker 1: gotten his head drilled back than one. Like It's clear
- 10:12Speaker 1: this is just tormenting this guy. And all I can
- 10:16Speaker 1: think about as he was telling this story was like,
- 10:20Speaker 1: how would Lufy react if he were to lose his
- 10:25Speaker 1: gumgum power? Because basically, what this bro says is that
- 10:33Speaker 1: he gave up on being like a captain and continuing
- 10:39Speaker 1: to do what he used to do because he didn't
- 10:42Speaker 1: have his power anymore, and it like broke his heart
- 10:46Speaker 1: so completely. And I was sort of expecting to be
- 10:50Speaker 1: honest for Loofy to like talk shit about that, in
- 10:56Speaker 1: particular that he would say something about how like so, soh,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you lost this one thing and you just gave up,
- 11:02Speaker 1: Like what kind of pirate is that, you know what
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean, like that kind of thing. And for the record,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm not mad that he doesn't have that reaction, but
- 11:13Speaker 1: I was surprised that he doesn't really respond to that
- 11:17Speaker 1: at all. And if like the fact that this guy
- 11:24Speaker 1: later on says that he like wants to put Loofy
- 11:27Speaker 1: in charge of I think he's got like some crew
- 11:31Speaker 1: that his grandson or somebody that's related to him is
- 11:36Speaker 1: part of, and he like wants to hand it over
- 11:38Speaker 1: to Loofy. There is something so delightful about that, and
- 11:43Speaker 1: I am looking forward to seeing more of Shinjau eventually
- 11:46Speaker 1: and hopefully getting like getting to the point where Lufy
- 11:50Speaker 1: will actually listen to what this man has to say
- 11:52Speaker 1: and understand that, like he's trying to be friends now,
- 11:55Speaker 1: you know, I also really want and I don't think
- 11:59Speaker 1: that this is necessarily something that we're going to get
- 12:01Speaker 1: to see, but I just wanted to state for the
- 12:04Speaker 1: record that I wouldn't mind being a fly on the
- 12:09Speaker 1: wall when Garp finds out that Loofy undid the thing
- 12:19Speaker 1: that he apparently like worked to do, which is figure
- 12:24Speaker 1: out how to take down this guy and cave his
- 12:29Speaker 1: drill head in I just feel like it would be
- 12:32Speaker 1: kind of I don't know how upset he would be
- 12:36Speaker 1: about it, because Garp is sort of unpredictable for me
- 12:39Speaker 1: a little bit, and how he can really roll with
- 12:41Speaker 1: the punches on some stuff, and then at other times
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm like, how are you upset about this? Like I
- 12:47Speaker 1: don't get it, and I can't decide if he would
- 12:51Speaker 1: be upset or if he would be like, ah, that loofy,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But I would not mind
- 13:01Speaker 1: just getting to see his reaction because I think it
- 13:03Speaker 1: would be very funny, especially because Lufy didn't intend to
- 13:07Speaker 1: undo it. As far as I can tell, that was
- 13:09Speaker 1: an accident, and I may be wrong about that, but like,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I think that he didn't. The expression on his face
- 13:18Speaker 1: to me said that he was surprised by what was
- 13:21Speaker 1: happening as he punched him. So, you know, I don't know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but I just really am enjoying this, like this little subplot,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and I'm sort of disappointed that by the end of
- 13:40Speaker 1: this Lufy is still just running away from him, because
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was really wanting to see the results of the
- 13:48Speaker 1: two of them becoming buds. Now, let's see, Seraphim says,
- 13:55Speaker 1: so from the last big quick defense of Dophy Okay
- 13:58Speaker 1: do Flamingo. I was like, who the main point of
- 14:01Speaker 1: his trap for Loofy worked. It was less about killing
- 14:03Speaker 1: him than taking him off the board so he couldn't
- 14:05Speaker 1: back up law Fair and then Sarah Francis dancin ju
- 14:11Speaker 1: is one of the highlights of the Colisseum Fighters. It
- 14:13Speaker 1: wasn't so much the power itself as losing it meant
- 14:16Speaker 1: he could never access all that treasure he had sealed
- 14:19Speaker 1: away under the ice. Oh ah, I definitely, I definitely
- 14:27Speaker 1: see what you mean, and I think you're probably right
- 14:29Speaker 1: plot wise, but it just felt like it was the
- 14:34Speaker 1: power itself in the scene, you know what I mean,
- 14:37Speaker 1: Like it just felt so sad how like I totally
- 14:44Speaker 1: think that you are correct, but his desperation felt so
- 14:50Speaker 1: incredibly personal on a level that was like I think
- 14:55Speaker 1: because we didn't actually see him like put the treasure
- 14:58Speaker 1: away and like all of that, I didn't have a
- 15:00Speaker 1: much of a connection to it. So it was just
- 15:03Speaker 1: his power And like the way that he's talking to
- 15:06Speaker 1: Loufy about it now, and I think that he's talking
- 15:09Speaker 1: to him about it now the way that he is
- 15:11Speaker 1: because he lost out on the treasure ultimately, but it
- 15:15Speaker 1: just feels like so much more about that specifically to me.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So that's a guys, I want to talk about Barlo Mayo. Now.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I never expected this. I feel so vindicated at how
- 15:37Speaker 1: much I have enjoyed Barlo Mayo already. So Bartolomeo is
- 15:42Speaker 1: like a Looviy fanboy, like it is basically a very
- 15:48Speaker 1: like homoerotic crush for me at this point. I love
- 15:54Speaker 1: it so much. He is so goofy like I I
- 16:00Speaker 1: liked him from the beginning. I just enjoyed him, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: to have his reaction to Lufy in this second episode
- 16:09Speaker 1: is such a delightful surprise. And I was not expecting
- 16:13Speaker 1: this at all, Like I don't. I think that he
- 16:21Speaker 1: correct me, and maybe we don't know this yet. I
- 16:25Speaker 1: couldn't tell if he came here explicitly because he knew
- 16:29Speaker 1: Lufy was coming and he was like following him so
- 16:32Speaker 1: closely that that's why they wound up on the same island.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I can't remember, because we know he's been following Lufy
- 16:39Speaker 1: and his cruise progress over the past two years I
- 16:45Speaker 1: think over two years, because he saw them at Lowtown
- 16:49Speaker 1: and he saw the moment where Lufy is released from
- 16:54Speaker 1: the scaffold where he's going to be executed, which we
- 16:58Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure are meant to think that this is
- 17:02Speaker 1: Lufy's dad, Dragon who did this with his power, right,
- 17:06Speaker 1: But Bartolameo apparently doesn't know that or I don't know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: because like Lufy's parentage was like stated publicly on the
- 17:20Speaker 1: the film when they were like filming at the War
- 17:25Speaker 1: of the Best Impelled Down. We know impel Downs the prison, right,
- 17:29Speaker 1: what's the name of the place where they were fighting
- 17:31Speaker 1: the War the Best. But what I'm what I'm my
- 17:37Speaker 1: question is is whether or not he knows about Dragon
- 17:40Speaker 1: being Lufy's dad, and whether or not Marine Ford thank
- 17:44Speaker 1: you Florian, And whether Dragon's powers are known to people,
- 17:53Speaker 1: because we don't really as viewers, quite know even what
- 17:59Speaker 1: his powers are, right, Like, we have seen him do
- 18:02Speaker 1: some stuff with this, like green lightning, and it's been
- 18:08Speaker 1: very very vague, So I don't know that he has
- 18:13Speaker 1: any idea. I'm not sure if anybody's talked to Loofy
- 18:16Speaker 1: about his dad's powers. Like it's sort of surprising because
- 18:20Speaker 1: like Dragon, being as like as huge a figure as
- 18:28Speaker 1: he seems to be, one would expect his powers to
- 18:33Speaker 1: be sort of known as well, but we don't really
- 18:36Speaker 1: hear them talked about. Like, based on the way that
- 18:40Speaker 1: we have interacted with other people in this series, it
- 18:44Speaker 1: has felt for me much more like Ace is more
- 18:48Speaker 1: famous than Dragon, which I don't think is actually true.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I think that's just a result of the way that
- 18:53Speaker 1: the narrative is set up for us to not know
- 18:57Speaker 1: about Dragon until later, So like there's this unfortunate sort
- 19:02Speaker 1: of side effect to that of like, well, if nobody
- 19:07Speaker 1: talks about him, then it just doesn't feel like he
- 19:10Speaker 1: is as famous as it as he is allegedly meant
- 19:14Speaker 1: to be, you know what I'm saying. So I guess
- 19:20Speaker 1: my question is, like, is it reasonable for Bartolomeo to
- 19:26Speaker 1: think that this escape that Luofy had is truly a
- 19:31Speaker 1: some kind of like what is it called miracle as
- 19:36Speaker 1: he puts it, or is he kind of missing the
- 19:40Speaker 1: connecting some pretty obvious dots on this because I feel
- 19:46Speaker 1: like I accept that he doesn't know, but I'm not
- 19:52Speaker 1: sure if that really makes sense in this universe that
- 19:56Speaker 1: Dragon's powers would be so unknown. Saraph says. Barto mentioned
- 20:03Speaker 1: early on he wanted to get the flair Flair fruit
- 20:06Speaker 1: for someone, implication being he entered to win the devil
- 20:09Speaker 1: Fruit to give to Loofy, since you know how much
- 20:11Speaker 1: it likely meant to him. Oh my god, Bartolameo is
- 20:14Speaker 1: trying to get it for Loofy. If that's the case,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I love it. I love it so much, you guys.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Bartolameo is like, I don't understand how he has swooped
- 20:27Speaker 1: in and won my heart like this, But I just
- 20:32Speaker 1: really liked him from the get go. His whole vibe
- 20:35Speaker 1: was very fun to me, and now it's just taken
- 20:38Speaker 1: him to this whole other level and I all all
- 20:41Speaker 1: I can say is that if his like weirdness with
- 20:48Speaker 1: Loofy and his obsession with him that he has continues
- 20:53Speaker 1: without being interrupted by some weird reaction to Nami or
- 20:57Speaker 1: Robin or another woman, because like, this is the thing
- 21:00Speaker 1: with so many of the male characters in this series,
- 21:02Speaker 1: other than like Zoro, who seems to be completely uninterested
- 21:05Speaker 1: in women. But I can't fully let myself go and
- 21:11Speaker 1: love Brook because then he'll just turn around and be
- 21:14Speaker 1: such a creep out of nowhere and it makes me
- 21:16Speaker 1: kind of go ah fuck, and like, you ruined it.
- 21:19Speaker 1: You know. All I want is for Bartolameo to keep
- 21:25Speaker 1: being like this and never be a fucking creep and
- 21:31Speaker 1: then I can just continue to like him in peace
- 21:34Speaker 1: and it's fine. So just please, Bartolomeo, don't let me down,
- 21:40Speaker 1: let me love you, just let me do this. Okay,
- 21:47Speaker 1: so okay. The reveal of this is like a little
- 21:52Speaker 1: bit slow, but like what happens is we hear a
- 21:57Speaker 1: couple of guys talking about how lufy is in this fight.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Somebody said something about straw Hat. Oh you mean straw
- 22:05Speaker 1: Hat is in straw Hat loofy, the one who couldn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: even save his brother's life during the War of the Best.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Anybody can get famous for not being able to do something.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And you see Bartolomeo stop and his eyes get like
- 22:24Speaker 1: that shadowed anime look of like I'm very angry, and
- 22:29Speaker 1: then he turns and just absolutely wrecks this guy. And
- 22:36Speaker 1: it is just like, you, guys, I really really want
- 22:44Speaker 1: you to understand how little I suspected this was going
- 22:49Speaker 1: to be like any sort of thing for him, If anything,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I thought maybe he would react like the we saw
- 22:59Speaker 1: the one who was like, oh my god, Strawhead is
- 23:02Speaker 1: here and seemed to be very like scared and frightened
- 23:05Speaker 1: by this news. So that was the only thing that
- 23:07Speaker 1: I was thinking maybe would happen, was that he would
- 23:10Speaker 1: he would behave in a way to indicate that even
- 23:14Speaker 1: a guy who's this tough is afraid of Loofy. Him
- 23:19Speaker 1: defending Loofy in this way and being like prepared to
- 23:24Speaker 1: throw down with total strangers on his behalf absolutely never,
- 23:30Speaker 1: So I had a moment of like, why is he
- 23:34Speaker 1: reacting this way? Like I really thought maybe we were
- 23:38Speaker 1: going to find out that it was just that Lufy
- 23:41Speaker 1: had done so well in his fight, and that like
- 23:44Speaker 1: Bartolomeo just has this implicit respect when somebody performs well
- 23:50Speaker 1: that he you know, some yahoo who's just walking by
- 23:54Speaker 1: isn't going to talk shit about a guy who actually
- 23:56Speaker 1: was out there fighting and who fucking won, by the way, Like,
- 24:01Speaker 1: who the hell do you think you are? I thought
- 24:03Speaker 1: it might just be something like that. To find out
- 24:07Speaker 1: that he has been following Lufy's progress for so long
- 24:13Speaker 1: and has been so invested and so like, I just
- 24:20Speaker 1: it's such a wonderful surprise, and the way that he's
- 24:24Speaker 1: like peeking out at Loufy. Later, Lufy walks past him
- 24:29Speaker 1: at one point and he literally is like he just
- 24:32Speaker 1: walked past me, it's the best. It's the best. He
- 24:37Speaker 1: gets the little like pink like you know how like
- 24:40Speaker 1: an anime they have a little pink like rectangles on
- 24:43Speaker 1: the top of their cheeks with the like diagonal lines
- 24:46Speaker 1: over them to signify that they're blushing or flirting or whatever,
- 24:50Speaker 1: and he gets that. There's like even even this was
- 24:54Speaker 1: like my my real, real favorite part, not just that
- 25:00Speaker 1: he's super into Loofy, but that he is also into
- 25:05Speaker 1: the rest of the straw Hats as well, because we
- 25:08Speaker 1: see him following their careers and he has all of
- 25:12Speaker 1: their wanted posters up, like he's sitting on the floor
- 25:16Speaker 1: in front of a wall full. It's like a little
- 25:19Speaker 1: straw hat shrine that he's got going on. And I
- 25:24Speaker 1: think that that, more than anything like really won me
- 25:28Speaker 1: over somehow, because it was like a guy being super
- 25:32Speaker 1: into the leader of a crew isn't really that unique
- 25:37Speaker 1: a thing. Loufy is the baddest ass of all of
- 25:41Speaker 1: these guys, and obsessing over him specifically actually feels quite reasonable,
- 25:51Speaker 1: you know, not to say that this wasn't still a
- 25:54Speaker 1: total surprise, because it was, but I'm just trying to
- 25:57Speaker 1: say that, like the fact that he also began to
- 26:01Speaker 1: follow all the rest of the straw hats, and that
- 26:04Speaker 1: you even see Chopper's poster up. Chopper is the one,
- 26:08Speaker 1: like everybody is laughing at how his poster is him
- 26:12Speaker 1: eating a what is it? Candy floss? You guys, I
- 26:16Speaker 1: really want to know why. Sometimes I can't remember the
- 26:18Speaker 1: words for things, but I'll remember the British way to
- 26:20Speaker 1: say it. We don't say candy floss in the United States,
- 26:23Speaker 1: we say cotton candy. But did I remember that? No?
- 26:27Speaker 1: I remember candy floss. Why I don't know, But he's
- 26:32Speaker 1: eating that in his poster and people like made a
- 26:34Speaker 1: joke out of it. Barla Mayo don't care. Bartola Mayo
- 26:37Speaker 1: has that poster too, does not fucking give a shit.
- 26:40Speaker 1: He's like a girl that was super into the Backstreet
- 26:43Speaker 1: Boys and even like the goofy rap guy who was
- 26:47Speaker 1: really just too old to be in the crew and
- 26:50Speaker 1: didn't quite fit and always kind of looked at a place.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Even him. This chick like knows all about him and
- 26:59Speaker 1: that is his vibe, and I am so into it.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I think that because I love Chopper so much. The
- 27:07Speaker 1: fact that this dude is respecting my Chopper and putting
- 27:11Speaker 1: some respect on his name like that. I think that's
- 27:15Speaker 1: what has done it for me, is just the fact
- 27:17Speaker 1: that this guy, it's like Lufy's the main one. Sure,
- 27:21Speaker 1: Lufy is the one that he's going to, like, be
- 27:25Speaker 1: the most excited about, I'm sure, but even even so,
- 27:30Speaker 1: he knows who the fuck Chopper is, you know. I
- 27:33Speaker 1: just this is the best. It's so good. It's so good,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's so exciting. I love it so much. And we
- 27:40Speaker 1: get that little flashback about like him looking at this
- 27:43Speaker 1: wall of the posters and at one point, like somebody
- 27:49Speaker 1: comes up to him and is like, hey, what do
- 27:51Speaker 1: you want us to do with these soldiers and he's like,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I don't know. Drown him, I don't care. And it's
- 27:56Speaker 1: so funny because he's like idolizing this crew, but apparently
- 28:01Speaker 1: is ruthless as fuck still, so it's not like he
- 28:07Speaker 1: idolizes them and is trying to take to heart that
- 28:13Speaker 1: they are good people trying to go out into the
- 28:16Speaker 1: world and help others. That's not it at all. He's
- 28:21Speaker 1: out here still being the absolute maniac that he is,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but he just I think that the seeing that miracle happen,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and then the way that all of them have grown
- 28:34Speaker 1: so much more powerful. That has been enough. But it's
- 28:39Speaker 1: very funny to me that, like his reaction is just yeah, whatever,
- 28:44Speaker 1: I don't know, kill him all, just stop bothering me.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm busy, you know. We have him like when when
- 28:52Speaker 1: he tells them to fuck off and drown him. That's
- 28:54Speaker 1: when he's like in front of the wall with all
- 28:56Speaker 1: of their posters. And later on we see him reading
- 29:01Speaker 1: the newspaper and he's like, I had been just some
- 29:05Speaker 1: crew leader who took over one hundred and fifty tounds,
- 29:08Speaker 1: no big deal, but Loofy inspired me to be great.
- 29:12Speaker 1: And he goes out and sets sail and becomes a pirate.
- 29:15Speaker 1: But when he says be great, he doesn't mean like
- 29:20Speaker 1: a good person. Apparently, he's just like, I'm gonna be
- 29:25Speaker 1: more powerful. That's it. So he comes back to the
- 29:29Speaker 1: present after this long ass flashback and he's holding onto
- 29:35Speaker 1: the tongue of the man who was shit talking Loofy
- 29:39Speaker 1: and about to pierce through his tongue with his knife.
- 29:44Speaker 1: It's actually horrifying. Like there's been a lot of people
- 29:48Speaker 1: threatening things on this show, this feels the most viscerally
- 29:52Speaker 1: upsetting of a lot of them. And so yeah, he's
- 29:58Speaker 1: the only like, how about I cut your tong hung out? Huh,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you'll never be half as good as him, worthless piece
- 30:05Speaker 1: a crap. And he just doesn't. He doesn't cut the
- 30:09Speaker 1: guy's tongue out. He just starts beating the shit out
- 30:11Speaker 1: of him. But then we jump back to Loofy fighting Cavendish.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Cavendish fighting Loofy. You guys, Cavendish is the opposite of
- 30:24Speaker 1: Bartolomeo in every way I think. I I think that
- 30:33Speaker 1: Cavendish being vain and good looking and everybody thinking that
- 30:38Speaker 1: he's good looking is just really not quite enough for
- 30:43Speaker 1: me to be interested in him as a character. I
- 30:46Speaker 1: think that's where I've sort of wound up with him,
- 30:49Speaker 1: is just we still have the same motivation. Even though
- 30:55Speaker 1: he doesn't he's not using his real name, He's still
- 30:58Speaker 1: taking everybody's attention and you know, the crowd favorite, and
- 31:04Speaker 1: Cavendish can't handle that. And it's I think I want
- 31:10Speaker 1: Cavendish's attitude to be a little bit more like overblown
- 31:18Speaker 1: in a different way. His overblow of I'm obsessed with
- 31:23Speaker 1: being everybody's favorite. You've got to add a little bit
- 31:28Speaker 1: more to his dialogue. You can't just have him keep
- 31:32Speaker 1: repeating that it's not very fun to watch, So I
- 31:36Speaker 1: think that's where I'm at at the moment, is just
- 31:39Speaker 1: sort of like this is getting a little bit tedious now,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know, I don't. I feel like there's potential with him,
- 31:48Speaker 1: but it's not. If you had told me that there
- 31:54Speaker 1: was a character who was jealous of Lufy's popularity because
- 31:59Speaker 1: he was very vain and everybody thought he was the
- 32:01Speaker 1: hottest man alive, and he just resented the fact that
- 32:04Speaker 1: Lufy is the favorite, I think I would have expected
- 32:09Speaker 1: this to be a lot more fun than it has
- 32:11Speaker 1: turned out to be. You know what I'm saying. I
- 32:14Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm being that harsh with this. I
- 32:16Speaker 1: feel like you guys probably get what I'm saying. Like,
- 32:20Speaker 1: what I keep thinking about is how Soanjy's double, Like
- 32:28Speaker 1: I say double, even though he just looked like Sonji
- 32:30Speaker 1: did in the the wanted poster that was drawn of him.
- 32:35Speaker 1: But that guy and his like constant reference to himself
- 32:40Speaker 1: and how attractive he is, and part of the joke
- 32:43Speaker 1: is that he is attractive, but like nobody's ever referencing
- 32:47Speaker 1: that the way, so it makes it a fun joke.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind it if what we did here was like,
- 32:55Speaker 1: maybe we could do something with this that doesn't get
- 32:59Speaker 1: done with uh Boa. And what I mean is BoA's power, right,
- 33:07Speaker 1: is that everybody thinks she's the most beautiful woman, to
- 33:09Speaker 1: the point that they get basically enchanted by her, and
- 33:13Speaker 1: she can turn them to stone because they fall so
- 33:16Speaker 1: utterly in love with her right away. And Lufy doesn't
- 33:20Speaker 1: have the reaction to her, which allows him to not
- 33:25Speaker 1: get turned into stone and also probably is the reason
- 33:28Speaker 1: why she falls for him, because he just doesn't have
- 33:32Speaker 1: the reaction to her that she is used to and
- 33:34Speaker 1: it causes something in her. Now, that's fine, especially because
- 33:40Speaker 1: we haven't seen Lufy be interested in women at all,
- 33:43Speaker 1: and it feels very in character for him to not
- 33:46Speaker 1: be affected by this. But what if we had Cavendish
- 33:53Speaker 1: have an effect on Lufy, not in that Lufy's like
- 33:57Speaker 1: actually attracted to him. I'm not being saying like, let's
- 34:00Speaker 1: make Loofy gay. I'm saying what if Lufy kept being like, Wow,
- 34:05Speaker 1: look at those muscles, your skin is amazing, your hair
- 34:10Speaker 1: is like flawless, you know, just like silly things that
- 34:13Speaker 1: normally Loofy wouldn't notice. But because Cavendish is so particularly outstanding.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Even Loofy has to stop and like be like, wow,
- 34:22Speaker 1: that's so impressive. I feel like that might have made
- 34:26Speaker 1: this a little bit more exciting to watch, because otherwise
- 34:32Speaker 1: it's just Cavendish getting pissy in a way that absolutely
- 34:36Speaker 1: nobody there is interested in, not Loofy, not the other fighters,
- 34:40Speaker 1: and Cavendish. It's like it's very one note. You need
- 34:45Speaker 1: something to make this a little bit, like to make
- 34:50Speaker 1: the humor of this bit progress further. Otherwise it's just
- 34:56Speaker 1: static and gets stale really fast. So anyway, Barlomeo is
- 35:05Speaker 1: watching this whole fight from the sidelines, and it's like,
- 35:07Speaker 1: should I go up there? Should I say something? What
- 35:10Speaker 1: am I even gonna say? Oh my god, he does
- 35:12Speaker 1: have that scar under his left eye. He's even more
- 35:15Speaker 1: amazing in person. I can't see through all these tears
- 35:19Speaker 1: of joy. And then he calls Cavendish a cabbage asshole,
- 35:23Speaker 1: which I don't know if that's like a translation thing,
- 35:27Speaker 1: but calling him a cabbage asshole is really funny. And
- 35:33Speaker 1: he tries to yell at Cavendish, but he is so
- 35:36Speaker 1: nervous that his voice fails him as he's in like
- 35:41Speaker 1: mid sentence. So this is when gen Jau shows up,
- 35:45Speaker 1: Lufy has already said to Cavendish like, bruh, can we
- 35:49Speaker 1: please not? I've been fighting all day? And when jan
- 35:53Speaker 1: Jau shows up, Lufy is truly like okay, you know what,
- 35:56Speaker 1: no enough of this shit. And Rebecca swoops in and
- 36:00Speaker 1: is like, hey, follow me. Well he follows her and
- 36:06Speaker 1: he gets stopped by Jesus Burgess on the way, who
- 36:10Speaker 1: has Teach on the transponder snail. And it's very funny
- 36:18Speaker 1: because I thought, like, okay, eventually he says Teach his name,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, but I'm gonna be honest.
- 36:29Speaker 1: As he's talking to Teach, I didn't know who this was.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I was not putting it together, And I am very
- 36:37Speaker 1: curious if you guys listening did put it together? Like
- 36:41Speaker 1: am I the only one that missed who this was
- 36:45Speaker 1: and didn't know right away? I feel like Loofy reacts
- 36:50Speaker 1: as if he does know immediately, like he just hears
- 36:54Speaker 1: the voice on the transponder snail as he's walking by
- 36:57Speaker 1: and instantly stops like why the fuck am I hearing Teach?
- 37:01Speaker 1: And I felt kind of bad because I was like,
- 37:05Speaker 1: here's the thing. Teach is really our big bad like
- 37:15Speaker 1: higher up the chain, I would say than dolfl Mingo
- 37:19Speaker 1: Doflmingo is our immediate threat, but Teach is the guy
- 37:24Speaker 1: that we're the most worried about in the long term, right.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I don't feel like that's unreasonable to say. I want
- 37:36Speaker 1: and I think this is a little bit of a
- 37:38Speaker 1: problem for the show in general. I want to check
- 37:43Speaker 1: in with Teach a little bit more often and know
- 37:47Speaker 1: what's going on with him. We don't even really need
- 37:50Speaker 1: to have him as a character show up, but I
- 37:53Speaker 1: would like a maybe moment where our friends are like
- 37:58Speaker 1: reading the newspaper or watching the news if we have
- 38:02Speaker 1: like TV news. It's very inconsistent when where you can
- 38:08Speaker 1: access TV news and how like frequently people watch it
- 38:11Speaker 1: and stuff. But I just feel like this show is
- 38:18Speaker 1: so like slowly paced in a lot of ways. There
- 38:24Speaker 1: are storylines that get set up really really early and
- 38:29Speaker 1: don't pay off for hundreds of episodes literally, And I
- 38:36Speaker 1: cannot understand how when they are trying to stretch things
- 38:40Speaker 1: out so much of the time, they don't decide to
- 38:44Speaker 1: just maybe refresh us on some of the other stuff.
- 38:48Speaker 1: And I wish that even if things were going to
- 38:51Speaker 1: be spaced out as much as they were, that we
- 38:55Speaker 1: would spend less time on like really drawn out fight
- 39:01Speaker 1: sequences or slow pans across the faces of startled people,
- 39:08Speaker 1: and we would instead get a little bit more information
- 39:12Speaker 1: about somebody who is meant to be a pretty big deal,
- 39:17Speaker 1: Like Teach is having taken the powers that he has?
- 39:25Speaker 1: How many how many devil for powers does he have? Now?
- 39:28Speaker 1: Does he have like three or does he only have two?
- 39:33Speaker 1: I can't remember exactly how like, because we see him
- 39:37Speaker 1: taking one, but I can't remember if he already had
- 39:39Speaker 1: two by the time this like we see him taking
- 39:43Speaker 1: the second one. But the fact that he has these
- 39:48Speaker 1: abilities and everything is really startling, and I want more
- 39:53Speaker 1: people to be talking about it and mystified by it
- 39:56Speaker 1: and trying to figure it out. I want there to
- 39:58Speaker 1: be a sense of like what the world's reaction is
- 40:04Speaker 1: to this guy. And I think that's the thing that's
- 40:08Speaker 1: a real disconnect for me with one piece is like
- 40:12Speaker 1: we will see our crew handling stuff, and we will
- 40:18Speaker 1: see townsfolk recognizing our friends and being like, aren't they
- 40:22Speaker 1: the ones who blank blank blank? But then there are
- 40:25Speaker 1: other things that they don't know, or other people that
- 40:28Speaker 1: they don't recognize, and I feel like it's a very
- 40:32Speaker 1: inconsistent thing based on whatever the story needs to happen,
- 40:36Speaker 1: how informed people are about like current events and how
- 40:40Speaker 1: fast news spreads, and what the world at large feels
- 40:48Speaker 1: about major events like. To me, the fact that Teach
- 40:53Speaker 1: can take on more than one double fruit power should
- 40:56Speaker 1: be earth shattering. I mean, the fact that we are
- 41:00Speaker 1: now able to make devil fruits like synthetically basically in
- 41:05Speaker 1: a factory also is bonkers, but I would put what
- 41:11Speaker 1: Teach can do even above that, because even if you
- 41:15Speaker 1: can synthetically make devil fruits, which is wild, we were
- 41:19Speaker 1: given to understand that you can still only have one power.
- 41:23Speaker 1: If you're gonna be able to both have the synthetic
- 41:29Speaker 1: devil fruit and potentially you could have more than one power.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I wish everybody were talking about this. I want this
- 41:37Speaker 1: to be something that as soon as it's revealed, everybody
- 41:42Speaker 1: becomes low key obsessed with a little bit. And I
- 41:46Speaker 1: think Teach should be talked about more so anyway, all
- 41:51Speaker 1: that to say, Teach should his voice showing up here.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I feel like if he's not enough of a presence
- 42:00Speaker 1: that I know who he is right away, then you
- 42:05Speaker 1: need to dial it up a little bit, because based
- 42:08Speaker 1: on what we have seen teach do, I think I
- 42:12Speaker 1: should he should be on my mind all the time,
- 42:14Speaker 1: and I should really instantly recognize his voice. We need
- 42:18Speaker 1: to get this like up to eleven here anyway. So
- 42:24Speaker 1: we have like the usual smack talking between him and
- 42:27Speaker 1: Lufy and him just being like, you're not gonna win
- 42:32Speaker 1: the flame Flame fruit. It's gonna be burgess. I wanted
- 42:35Speaker 1: as to join the Blackbeard Pirates, but he turned me down.
- 42:38Speaker 1: So getting that fruit is the next Bec's best thing,
- 42:40Speaker 1: isn't it. And of course Lufy is just like, of
- 42:45Speaker 1: course I'm going to win it, and he says, well,
- 42:47Speaker 1: you might have to eat those words, kid, I can't
- 42:49Speaker 1: wait to see it. So then Lufy keeps running with Rebecca,
- 42:56Speaker 1: and it's very funny. He stops in there, like an
- 43:00Speaker 1: area in the colisseum where they are selling refreshments, and
- 43:06Speaker 1: Lufy of course stops and is like, yo, what's up?
- 43:10Speaker 1: And he starts eating all of these free samples that
- 43:13Speaker 1: this lady has, and so Rebecca has to come by
- 43:16Speaker 1: and be like, hey, I'm really sorry about that. And
- 43:18Speaker 1: apparently she knows this lady or I shouldn't say that.
- 43:22Speaker 1: It's clear later that she's like famous, so this lady
- 43:25Speaker 1: knows her is probably the more appropriate way to put it.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And she pays this woman for Louvi's food and buys
- 43:32Speaker 1: him several meals, and this leads to a whole thing later.
- 43:38Speaker 1: It's a really weird moment, you guys, when they're sitting
- 43:42Speaker 1: together and Lufy is like, hey, uh, you're not hungry too,
- 43:47Speaker 1: are you, Because for once he has a moment of like,
- 43:51Speaker 1: maybe I should offer her something like we really don't
- 43:55Speaker 1: see Lufy give a shit about sharing almost ever. And
- 43:59Speaker 1: the fact that he even stops to ask I was like, wow,
- 44:02Speaker 1: is this growth on your part, buddy? But he asks
- 44:07Speaker 1: her this, and we have a flashback of her like
- 44:11Speaker 1: with her mother saying I'm so hungry, I'm starving, and
- 44:15Speaker 1: her mother is saying, I know, I'm so sorry. It's
- 44:19Speaker 1: two days is a long wait, but if you just
- 44:23Speaker 1: stay here by yourself for a little while, I'm going
- 44:25Speaker 1: to get us some food, And we come back to
- 44:28Speaker 1: the present and she says to Lufy, I don't get
- 44:32Speaker 1: hungry anymore, which is the weirdest way to say that
- 44:40Speaker 1: that I can think of. I don't really even get
- 44:43Speaker 1: what she means. I think maybe the implication here is
- 44:48Speaker 1: that her mother's having to go and get her food
- 44:53Speaker 1: because she was hungry, as far as she is concerned,
- 44:56Speaker 1: is the reason her mother is dead. And so she
- 45:00Speaker 1: doesn't like to have her own needs because it means
- 45:05Speaker 1: that she's going to be putting other people out and
- 45:08Speaker 1: potentially in danger in order to provide for her. So
- 45:14Speaker 1: she just tries to act like, oh, I don't get
- 45:16Speaker 1: hungry anymore, because then I don't have to worry about
- 45:22Speaker 1: you trying to provide for me and getting hurt because
- 45:25Speaker 1: of it, which I suppose. I'm like, I guess I'm
- 45:31Speaker 1: just sort of gonna wait and see how this is developed,
- 45:34Speaker 1: because I feel like I maybe am not seeing the
- 45:36Speaker 1: whole picture here. But it's a weird, Like just saying
- 45:46Speaker 1: I don't get hungry just sounds crazy. It's one thing
- 45:50Speaker 1: to be like no, no, no, I'm fine and constantly
- 45:52Speaker 1: always saying like you don't need anything from people, but
- 45:57Speaker 1: just being like no, no, no, I don't get hungry, it
- 46:00Speaker 1: sounds like you're not a human. It sounds like you
- 46:03Speaker 1: maybe you're one of these toys or something. You know.
- 46:05Speaker 1: It's just a way of phrasing it that feels really
- 46:10Speaker 1: like it's gonna lead to more questions and probably draw
- 46:14Speaker 1: more attention to this than you really intended. So anyway,
- 46:19Speaker 1: it's just a funny, funny moment. So Lufy as he's
- 46:23Speaker 1: like standing and talking to her and eating his food,
- 46:28Speaker 1: he gets gripped up from behind by some guy through
- 46:31Speaker 1: like the bars of this cage, and this dude is
- 46:37Speaker 1: yelling at her you have to kill him or if
- 46:39Speaker 1: you don't, you'll never accomplish your mission. And Lufy is like,
- 46:44Speaker 1: wait what, and she holds up her sword and I
- 46:50Speaker 1: really thought that she was gonna go for the guy
- 46:52Speaker 1: who had grabbed Loofy, but she doesn't. She actually does
- 46:56Speaker 1: go for Loofy, and like it's not like it doesn't
- 46:59Speaker 1: cost or anything. She definitely has a moment of clearly
- 47:03Speaker 1: trying to ask herself, am I really gonna do this?
- 47:07Speaker 1: Like it's bothering her that she has to take this
- 47:13Speaker 1: step and she doesn't want to. She's grown to like
- 47:17Speaker 1: Loofy and she doesn't want to do this, but she
- 47:20Speaker 1: still goes through with it initially, and Loofy takes her
- 47:28Speaker 1: down with it's like no effort at all. He jumps
- 47:35Speaker 1: out of the way, he lands on her and pins
- 47:39Speaker 1: her to the ground with his feet, and in the
- 47:42Speaker 1: process of doing all of this, does not lose the
- 47:45Speaker 1: meal that he's holding onto and continues to eat while
- 47:50Speaker 1: he's standing on top of her holding her down. You guys,
- 47:56Speaker 1: this is the most insulting fight I think we've ever seen. Like,
- 48:02Speaker 1: there have been a lot of people who Loofy has
- 48:05Speaker 1: put in their place, and this is the one that
- 48:11Speaker 1: has I think, like bummed me out the most, because
- 48:17Speaker 1: you guys know how frustrated I have been over the
- 48:21Speaker 1: fact that the women in this universe are just so
- 48:25Speaker 1: rarely allowed to fight at the level the men are.
- 48:29Speaker 1: It's just so some of the women have really incredible superpowers, yes,
- 48:37Speaker 1: and they are able to do cool shit and be
- 48:40Speaker 1: really useful to the group, but they're not really fighters
- 48:47Speaker 1: ever almost, you know. And I was so hopeful that
- 48:53Speaker 1: Rebecca was going to be a real force to be
- 48:57Speaker 1: reckoned with, and it doesn't. It's not like she's nothing
- 49:02Speaker 1: like we see later on that she has a reputation
- 49:09Speaker 1: as being a decent fighter, which is part of the
- 49:11Speaker 1: reason why people seem to not like her because of
- 49:13Speaker 1: her family's history and whatnot. As well but it just
- 49:19Speaker 1: for me was not enough, after her being built up
- 49:24Speaker 1: and wanting to like win this competition and putting herself
- 49:29Speaker 1: out there like this, for Lovie to take her down
- 49:35Speaker 1: without breaking a sweat, dropping his meal anything, it makes
- 49:41Speaker 1: her a joke and it makes me really sad. And
- 49:45Speaker 1: I get it that Lovi is meant to be very
- 49:47Speaker 1: powerful and a good fighter, but even so, I mean,
- 49:53Speaker 1: come on, a little, a little challenge, it's like a
- 49:57Speaker 1: second and it's over, and it just it made me really,
- 50:02Speaker 1: really sad because it's the fact that women are so
- 50:07Speaker 1: rarely allowed to be dope fighters combined with what we
- 50:11Speaker 1: have Rebecca wearing. I am trying so hard to get
- 50:15Speaker 1: past this fucking outfit, you guys. I am trying so
- 50:18Speaker 1: hard not to constantly be rolling my eyes at it.
- 50:24Speaker 1: And I could have gotten past it if we were
- 50:27Speaker 1: letting her be a complete badass, but it seems we're not,
- 50:33Speaker 1: So we have her in this fucking get up, and
- 50:36Speaker 1: we have her not being a great fighter. And when
- 50:39Speaker 1: she is being introduced to the coliseum later, the first
- 50:43Speaker 1: thing that's mentioned is how she's like the most beautiful
- 50:45Speaker 1: gladiator and gets such a reaction out of everybody. It
- 50:48Speaker 1: is not about her fighting skills, It is not about
- 50:51Speaker 1: her prowess. It is about her looks only, and I
- 50:56Speaker 1: am so fucking over it. Can we please grow as
- 51:04Speaker 1: a species here? And this show has been really like
- 51:10Speaker 1: inconsistent for me on so many things, but this is
- 51:13Speaker 1: one where I keep hoping that we're getting through and
- 51:19Speaker 1: past it and we're getting to a spot where women
- 51:21Speaker 1: are going to be treated as people a little bit more,
- 51:24Speaker 1: and we keep not getting that, and it's making me
- 51:28Speaker 1: more and more angry every time I get tricked into
- 51:31Speaker 1: having some hope for it, Like I constantly set aside
- 51:38Speaker 1: everything so far and go, okay, well, let's see maybe
- 51:40Speaker 1: this one, and it just hasn't really happened. We've had
- 51:44Speaker 1: some fun powers, you know, we have had some female
- 51:49Speaker 1: characters that are funny or cool. But all I am
- 51:53Speaker 1: looking for is for a character who's a woman whose
- 51:58Speaker 1: appearance is not the focus in one way or another.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Because if we have a character who is beautiful, the
- 52:07Speaker 1: fact that she's beautiful is a huge fucking deal, especially
- 52:11Speaker 1: if she's met by Soanjy or Brook, it's always going
- 52:15Speaker 1: to be one of the first things mentioned. And if
- 52:17Speaker 1: she is not beautiful, especially if she's fat. That's also
- 52:22Speaker 1: gonna be a major fucking topic, you know, like the
- 52:26Speaker 1: lady who ate the art art fruit. One of the
- 52:28Speaker 1: first things is a joke about her being like, uh,
- 52:32Speaker 1: are you gonna admire my figure and all of them
- 52:34Speaker 1: being like ugh no, and it just this is not
- 52:40Speaker 1: how male characters are ever handled. Ever. How many fat,
- 52:46Speaker 1: pot bellied dudes are in this colosseum. There's like tough guys, sure,
- 52:51Speaker 1: but you got tons of like old fat guys as well.
- 52:54Speaker 1: You've got tons of dudes with weird bodies. It's never mentioned.
- 52:57Speaker 1: It's nothing, and every woman her appearance is like a
- 53:03Speaker 1: number one on the list of things that are talked
- 53:07Speaker 1: about that are like plot relevant. It's so lopsided and
- 53:13Speaker 1: it's so fucking exhausting. It's just such a great example
- 53:18Speaker 1: of what it is like to be a woman in
- 53:20Speaker 1: the world, honestly, because this is what it has always
- 53:23Speaker 1: felt like. This is what it has been like growing
- 53:26Speaker 1: up and knowing that you just either don't get taken
- 53:30Speaker 1: seriously because you're attractive, or you don't get taken seriously
- 53:35Speaker 1: because you're unattractive, But either way it doesn't matter because
- 53:39Speaker 1: you're a woman and nobody will take you seriously, period,
- 53:43Speaker 1: So good luck. Figure out which one is the least
- 53:45Speaker 1: tiresome to deal with every single day of your life.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Figure out which one you are the most willing to
- 53:51Speaker 1: deal with the fallout of if it goes left somehow,
- 53:54Speaker 1: and which one you're the most willing to deal with
- 53:57Speaker 1: the maintenance for you know, it's just Rebecca's character bums
- 54:04Speaker 1: me out, and I am. I am so hopeful that
- 54:09Speaker 1: they wind up turning this around. But I have been
- 54:11Speaker 1: hopeful and it has not happened. And I am pretty
- 54:14Speaker 1: much getting to the point where anytime a new Woman
- 54:17Speaker 1: character pops up, I'm just gonna throw my hands up
- 54:19Speaker 1: and not expect anything. And I hate that, I really do.
- 54:23Speaker 1: But we are six hundred and fifty episodes in My Friends,
- 54:27Speaker 1: and really like we've got Robin and Namy. Both of
- 54:34Speaker 1: them are not like major fighters on the team. They
- 54:39Speaker 1: come in at as a clutch thing, doing this and
- 54:42Speaker 1: this here and there and even that, like Nami's weapon
- 54:46Speaker 1: gets fucked up by this art art eating woman and
- 54:50Speaker 1: she can't do shit now just because her weapon got destroyed,
- 54:54Speaker 1: so now she's useless in a fight, which sucks ass.
- 54:59Speaker 1: So I just I'm sorry but Rebecca is such a
- 55:04Speaker 1: major disappointment. I really thought that maybe, like the way
- 55:09Speaker 1: that she's dressed was going to be like under what's
- 55:15Speaker 1: the word I want? Subverted, And it doesn't seem like
- 55:19Speaker 1: that's what's going to happen at all. So anyway, we
- 55:23Speaker 1: find out that one of the guys who held Loofy
- 55:27Speaker 1: down he is a prisoner who is forced to fight
- 55:32Speaker 1: as a gladiator, and he is part of a large
- 55:35Speaker 1: group of dudes who are all bandaged up and a
- 55:39Speaker 1: lot of them are like missing limbs and stuff, and
- 55:42Speaker 1: they apparently got on the don Quixote family's bad side,
- 55:47Speaker 1: and we're promised freedom if they could win a thousand battles,
- 55:51Speaker 1: but they of course do not do that. Nobody can
- 55:54Speaker 1: do that, and so they are all just being killed
- 55:56Speaker 1: for everybody's entertainment. And we have Rebecca ending this episode
- 56:03Speaker 1: saying that like, I am going to get this fucking
- 56:07Speaker 1: flame flame fruit, and I am going to kill do
- 56:09Speaker 1: Flamingo and that is like my life's mission. And I'm
- 56:13Speaker 1: also going to help the toy soldier because I'm sick
- 56:19Speaker 1: of him having to protect me all the time, so
- 56:23Speaker 1: I am finally going to protect him. And then we
- 56:26Speaker 1: go to the flashbacks episode, which is the third in
- 56:31Speaker 1: which we see the sweet relationship that she has with
- 56:37Speaker 1: her mother. We find out later that her mother is
- 56:43Speaker 1: high born, but they don't live the life of high
- 56:50Speaker 1: born people. They're living in a little cabin and like
- 56:54Speaker 1: it's like the two of them alone, and there's a
- 57:02Speaker 1: kind of a farm set up around them. Her mother
- 57:06Speaker 1: is cooking for her. It's not like they have servants.
- 57:08Speaker 1: They don't live in this huge home. And her father
- 57:13Speaker 1: is nowhere to be found, which I have to assume
- 57:16Speaker 1: her father is this toy soldier. I can't help but
- 57:20Speaker 1: laugh at the fact that she never actually asks the
- 57:25Speaker 1: toy soldier's name. She just calls him toy soldier, and
- 57:31Speaker 1: he just expects her to only call him that, I guess,
- 57:35Speaker 1: and to this day, after knowing him as long as
- 57:39Speaker 1: she has, that's still what she calls him. And I
- 57:44Speaker 1: just think it's kind of funny that, like, really, it
- 57:47Speaker 1: never even enters your head to be like, do you
- 57:50Speaker 1: have your own name? As a child, I named my toys,
- 57:55Speaker 1: you know, I mean, that's just like a thing you do,
- 57:58Speaker 1: so I would have that. She would, even if she
- 58:01Speaker 1: doesn't ask if you have a name she'd be like,
- 58:04Speaker 1: I'm going to call you such and such, you know,
- 58:06Speaker 1: like that she would give him a name, but evidently not,
- 58:10Speaker 1: he's just toy soldier. So her and her mother are
- 58:16Speaker 1: having this dinner and this is like, you know, one
- 58:19Speaker 1: of the times where she's talking about how hungry she
- 58:22Speaker 1: has been and how it was like her stomach was
- 58:25Speaker 1: grumbling and everything, And this means that later on, when
- 58:29Speaker 1: she has this other interaction with her mother where she's starving,
- 58:34Speaker 1: it's just sort of meant to underscore the difference in
- 58:37Speaker 1: the situations from then to now. And there is an
- 58:42Speaker 1: attack by I'm assuming like this is all do Flamingo's people,
- 58:48Speaker 1: and he we see him in the square like talking
- 58:52Speaker 1: to the townsfolk about how the royals that were here
- 58:56Speaker 1: before were stealing from them, and everybody body's cheering and
- 59:01Speaker 1: agreeing with him. But I can't tell if there's any
- 59:04Speaker 1: evidence of this that he presents that there was, Like,
- 59:07Speaker 1: was there already a suspicion that they were doing this
- 59:11Speaker 1: that he's confirming. Did he set them up and frame
- 59:15Speaker 1: them for doing this when they weren't, or is this
- 59:19Speaker 1: like an aspect of the memory thing that I've been
- 59:23Speaker 1: singing around where people's memory of things are being affected.
- 59:28Speaker 1: But I it just felt like everybody was cheering for
- 59:32Speaker 1: him and going along with this in such a way
- 59:34Speaker 1: that there had to be something to it, whether it
- 59:38Speaker 1: was real or not. But we don't really get that
- 59:41Speaker 1: expanded upon. So she and her mother go running and
- 59:49Speaker 1: escape just barely, but they are starving, and her mother says,
- 59:54Speaker 1: I'm going to go and get food, and we see
- 59:58Speaker 1: that she has like this bag with bread and like
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a sausage in it, and she gets shot and the
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: toy soldier comes to Rebecca with her mother's body. I
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: don't know about you, guys, but I kind of felt like,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: maybe don't bring the little girl her mother's body. Like
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: that was just my opinion. I may be, you know,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: like not really fully thinking this through, but it just
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: felt like showing up with her body the way that
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: he did was like so traumatic. Just show up and
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: be like I couldn't save her. She's not she didn't
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: make it, you know, but I don't know. And at
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: first Rebecca is like, I hate you because you couldn't
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: save her, and we see that like there's going to
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: be this tension for a little while, but eventually he
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: becomes her safety, and they are able to find this
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: town where they're allowed to live for free because the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: houses have been vacated by people and are you know,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: just basically going to be sitting unoccupied, which is something
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: that Americans could really learn from, but we won't. And
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: we get to see a series of moments where the
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: toy Soldier is looking out for her and saves her
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: from a bully, from a kid who's like in love
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: with her, which is just so, and from a couple
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: of kidnappers who the implication is very strong that they
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: are going to be trafficking her as like a sexual object,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: which is horrifying, but this she gets rescued from, and
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: eventually the toy Soldier is like, you know what, I
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: can't always be there. There's going to be a day
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: where something happens to me, and I need to teach
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: you to take care of yourself and to stand up
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: for yourself. And so we see the beginning of her
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: training and she's very resistant to it at first, but
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: eventually begins to like go along with it and to
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: learn from him. And it's just I was very relieved
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: that the relationship is much more of like this is
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: a father figure For me, I think it's pretty clear
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: that this is probably her literal father who's been transformed.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I'm just relieved that it doesn't seem like this is
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: a romantic thing, because I just can't cope with the
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: romantic thing between humans and Toya's guys. I just can't
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: do it. It's too weird. And so we come back
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: to the present and Lufy like she is seeing her
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: go out in front of everybody to fight, and he
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: sees the way the crowd is reacting and they're booing her,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: and he's just like, what the fuck. She's a really
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: nice person and she bought me lunch. Why is it
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: that they're acting like this? And one of the prisoners
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: says she's bound by her family's legacy. Her grandfather was
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: our former king. The entire country despises him. And the
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: episode ends with Loofy looking like he is about to
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: go out and lay a SmackDown on the entire audience
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: because of the way they're treating Rebecca, which is very
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: funny to me. He looks more angry at this than
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: he has looked about anything while he was in the
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: ring himself, And I mean, look, I'm not going to
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: sit here and defend a monarchy. I think the fact
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: that her mother took her away and they lived on
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: their own probably means that she is not of the
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: same ilk as the average royal, so definitely not trying
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: to put her in the same box with them all.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: But maybe there's some reason why they hated the king,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: and maybe those reasons are valid. What do I know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: So I guess we'll have to wait and see. So
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna wrap this up. I thank you guys so
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: much for hanging out with me, appreciate Sarah, fem and
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Florian for hanging out in the chat, and hope you
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: guys are enjoying the coverage. Until next time to the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: new Motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast.
