- 0:32Lombardo with me as always. Daniels not with us this week. I know,
- 0:40Scott Bowers, how are you to got a message for him to say
- 0:45hi to everybody? But we can't say that. How are we uh,
- 0:51how are we gonna do it without? I mean, it's I think that's
- 0:56the end of the show, see you guys. Yeah, I mean I
- 0:59saw the message she put out to everybody. Yeah, you know it sounds
- 1:03like, uh, it's the It's the Scott Powders Podcast featuring special guests Daniel.
- 1:11Yeah, Daniel, And I'm thinking, you know, he's on a
- 1:14motorcycle trip, right, that's right, that's right. Yeah, I'm thinking
- 1:18this guy's head is so big that bike's gonna tip over, I don't know
- 1:21what, looking like a bobble head down the street. Wake up, Dan
- 1:26and get your ass of event. Yeah, yeah, it was. It
- 1:29was close close to sported. Yeah. I had another one of those nights
- 1:33where I didn't sleep. Well, yeah, that's up all night and then
- 1:42you finally get to sleep and it's like, oh, I guess I can
- 1:46sleep three hours. So yeah, boom fun. Sorry about that, man,
- 1:51Yeah, it's all right, Yeah, it's okay, Okay, I
- 1:56had this. I had a very you know, it's a very special episode
- 1:59of Start Check that I had to watch. That's right, that's right,
- 2:01that's right. Yeah, I watched it too. Hey, we should let
- 2:07people know for the for the convention the Trek Long Island when we're there.
- 2:12Uh. So we had talked about this offline. But so Friday night we're
- 2:15gonna get together with some other podcasts. They're gonna meet at the Dave and
- 2:20Busters out there and Long Island, and uh, it's at nine o'clock.
- 2:23Yeah, so it'll be our group and then other Star Trek podcasts as well.
- 2:29So we'll get to have snacks and play games and win stuff at the
- 2:34Dave and Busters. So that's been fun cool, And then we'll figure out,
- 2:37uh, we'll figure out dinner plans for Saturday night. Okay, Like
- 2:40Scott had suggested, we should probably make plans for people. So it's a
- 2:45good call. Yeah, and you know, as we know, we can't
- 2:49accomplish anything about Scott's guidance and Captain Scott, Captain Scott right, oh,
- 3:00man, if take a week off buddy, it's cool. This is what
- 3:02happens. We'll just talk about you for forty five minutes exactly. That's how
- 3:07it works. Trek Cast Door Edition, don't it style Babo Tech because that's
- 3:13what I named the show. Oh did you Yeah, because we're going to
- 3:19the library right, where's the library? Yeah? God? This show?
- 3:23Yeah, this show. Well, we'll talk about it. Why don't we
- 3:29get to the news first, because there's all interesting news stories. Yeah,
- 3:31let's do it Star Trek News. All right, So our first news story
- 3:39comes to us from Deadline and stop me if you heard this before. But
- 3:45uh, Sony and Paramount have signed a non disclosure agreement allowing deal talks to
- 3:51start. So this is different than what we had heard before. It looks
- 3:55like that twenty six billion dollar bid is no longer on the table. But
- 4:00by having these negotiations begin, it will allow for a different type of deal
- 4:08between Sony and Apollo and Paramount. The going rumor right now is it's going
- 4:15to be a narrower deal. So what does that mean. Potentially, it
- 4:20means that instead of buying Paramount as a whole, they might buy chunks of
- 4:27it or the majority of it and sell off other things. Yeah, we
- 4:32don't really know yet. I mean, it's very early days in this whole
- 4:36negotiation process, you know what. I just hope they have learned from the
- 4:43mistakes of the past and they keep the brand together. They don't do that
- 4:50bullshit they did a few years ago, where you know, the movies are
- 4:55over here and the shows are over here, and because of that, nobody
- 4:57talks to each other. And you know, if they're going to sell the
- 5:01franchise, sell the whole franchise as one one wreckage, right hopefully that is
- 5:08Yeah, well, I guess we'll find out soon enough. But yeah,
- 5:13so that's where we're at with things. So this is very early days.
- 5:17We don't know what it means yet. But it looks like the sky Dance
- 5:20deal is over for the time being. And don't know if twenty six billion
- 5:27dollars will be the final price. Could be lower, could be higher.
- 5:30I guess we'll see. Part of the reason they go into an NBA like
- 5:33this is so that Sony and Apollo can get a closer look at Paramounts books.
- 5:40It's what's kind of happening under the hood. So yeah, okay,
- 5:46all right, and then our next new story comes to us from Game Rent,
- 5:50and they got to talk to Chris Pine because Chris Pine is out there
- 5:56promoting his new movie, and so they you know, they asked him,
- 6:00hey, what's up with Star Trek for and basically he gave a giant shoulder
- 6:03shrug, and you know, yeah, he says he's hoping for a new
- 6:11one, of course. But here's the quote. I honestly don't know there
- 6:15is something in the news of a new writer coming on board. I thought
- 6:18they already had a script, but I guess I was wrong, or they
- 6:21decided to pivot. It's always as it's always been with Star Trek. I'll
- 6:27just have to wait and see. So, you know, the longer the
- 6:31longer it goes, the less and less likely. Oh yeah, absolutely,
- 6:38I'm I'm operating under the idea that this is over. They've closed the book
- 6:44on on that that branch. Let's say Sony or some other company buys Star
- 6:49Trek, right, because they buy Paramount, they're gonna want to put their
- 6:53own stamp on it. They're not going to want to rehash the old movies.
- 6:57So yeah, it looks very unlike to me. But one thing that
- 7:01I thought was interesting was that in this interview, He did say that by
- 7:04the third film, Into Darkness or Beyond, he felt the most like Kirk,
- 7:12like he felt like he'd finally dialed in his performance the most. So
- 7:15okay, I kind of feel that too now thinking about it. But I've
- 7:23only seen that one one and a half times, So okay, I don't
- 7:26know fair enough. I saw it once when it came out, and then
- 7:29I tried to rewatch it about six months ago, and I don't think I
- 7:32finished it. Oh okay, So I don't know. You know, we
- 7:38all love Beaskie Boys in our own way. You know, it's funny.
- 7:43The two thousand and nine one. I've watched that one about a thousand times,
- 7:46and even though it's a very flawed movie, there's a lot of problems
- 7:49with that movie. Yeah, it's still an enjoyable movie to me. It's
- 7:57like fast food, right, It's not good for you, it's not the
- 7:59best, but it's all right every now and then. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:03yeah, all right. Our next news story comes to us from art Net,
- 8:07and we're getting a little bit of an update. Remember the long lost
- 8:11and finally recovered Enterprise model. Yes, yeah, so we're getting another update
- 8:16on this thing. So Apparently it was found in an old storage unit,
- 8:22kind of like that show Storage Wars, people bet on them and yeah,
- 8:24so that's what it was found in. Right, So the people that originally
- 8:28had been on that storage unit went and got it appraised at a at a
- 8:33auction house. The auction house discovered it had been stolen and helped return it
- 8:37to the to the Rodden Berries. The original deal was they were going to
- 8:41negotiate a price between the storage people and the Bridenberries to give these people,
- 8:46you know. And so now the storage people are filing a lawsuit because they
- 8:54have not been paid. Yeah. The original estimate was that the model worth
- 9:00about eight hundred thousand. Yeah, that got talked down to about five hundred
- 9:05thousand, so a half million, and these guys are saying they have not
- 9:09been paid. Also, apparently it had been switched to being the cost of
- 9:13the model to it is being called a finder's fee. Yeah, so those
- 9:18guys don't like that either. Yeah. Yeah, So I mean I touched
- 9:22on this a little bit. Yeah, if it's if it's legitimate stolen property,
- 9:28you don't have to pay anything right to get it back. It's yours,
- 9:33right, it's yours. It was stolen from you, it gets returned
- 9:37to you. That's it. That's the end of the story, right,
- 9:41And so these guys have not been paid at all, and so now they're
- 9:45finding the lossy so well, it's it's kinda it's kind of on them for
- 9:52bringing it to an auction house, bringing it to an organization that's kind of
- 9:56bound by the rules, right, they had if they had just sold it
- 10:03to a person. You know, when you go into a pawn shop,
- 10:07they want to know who you are. Yeah, you know, they take
- 10:11ID from you. A lot of them take a thumb print from you because
- 10:16when the police come in and seize that stolen property from them, they want
- 10:20to be able to go back and recover it from the person who who brought
- 10:24it in. So, I mean I kinda saw this coming. Yeah,
- 10:30but so well, we'll see what happens. But you know, the sand
- 10:35is always shifting in this story. Yea. And then our last news story,
- 10:39Coach first from ICV two. You know that that popular website, I
- 10:45see you two right, yeah, ICV two, And I just thought this
- 10:50would be fun for some people. There's a new Star Trek deck building game
- 10:54coming. The pre orders are are now underway. The game is called Star
- 10:58Wars ELMS. So if you're a fan of like Magic the Gathering or or
- 11:05games like that, Pokemon yu gi oh, I guess now you can have
- 11:11your own Star Trek version, just like the old one. There was that
- 11:13one in like the nineties. So yeah, but the the pre orders are
- 11:18hitting. This is being put together by UVS Games and Wise Wizard Games.
- 11:24So apparently this is the the kind of like starter deck. Yeah, there
- 11:30are about one hundred and thirty cards in there, and apparently these will play
- 11:35up to two to four players. So so you said there was a game
- 11:39like this in the nineties. Yeah, yeah, it was a trading card
- 11:43game. Okay, but but I can tell you that nineties nostalgia has shifted
- 11:52into high cure lately. Yeah. It's getting you know, it's gotten crazy
- 12:00amount of nineties nostalgia. That's that's occurring right now. Oh well, and
- 12:03it's not just that these these trading card games are really popular right now,
- 12:07yeah, really popular. I mean there's a Transformers game right now. There's
- 12:13yeah, you name it, there's there's a game for it. Yeah,
- 12:16So which is kind of it's kind of the opposite of what we were seeing
- 12:26just three or four years ago when non fungible uh whatever's were the big thing
- 12:33for three weeks where it's like, this is a card, but it's not
- 12:37real. You get hold it. It doesn't exist in real space, but
- 12:41it's yours, right because we're telling you that it's yours and you tell us.
- 12:46This is kind of the opposite. It's like everybody woke up and said,
- 12:48you know what, Um, that's bullshit. Yeah, give me a
- 12:54real give me a real card, give me a real deck, give me
- 12:56something tangible to hold in my hands. So I have to say, I'm
- 13:01I'm happy to see that that has come around. Oh, ty J says.
- 13:05The original game was called the Star Trek Customizable Card Game made by decipher
- 13:09and it was very popular. At one point. Can you hit that uh
- 13:13that button for the sure Yeah, here you go, ty Ja warning warning,
- 13:18NERD alert, NERD alert this game. What's that? Did you play
- 13:31this card game? Would I play the card game? You know what?
- 13:39I like to play cards. I like chips with my cards. There you
- 13:46go, there you go. I can only count it. I can only
- 13:50count to twenty one. Uh huh. If that that's fun, you're picking
- 13:54up what I'm putting down. Yeah, so I don't know. I don't
- 14:01know if i'd play this. Yeah, it's never these these kind of games
- 14:03has never been really my thing. But yeah, my son likes Pokemon.
- 14:09There's a thousand Pokemon cards in this house. So I get I get the
- 14:13draw. Ty Jay's taking his he says, I take it with pride,
- 14:16referring to his nerd alert. That's right. So your family, now,
- 14:22that's right, that's how it works. You're one of us. You're one
- 14:26of us. Yeah. No, I play Magic the Gathering. You can
- 14:28see the decks behind me if you look on that. Yeah, so I
- 14:33do play every now and then. So yeah, I mean I'll try it.
- 14:35I'll try anything once. Yeah, there you go. There you go
- 14:39say that a lot. Well, not anything, not everything I got,
- 14:43you know, I will try most things once. Yeah. Yeah, we're
- 14:48already being told some recommendations and places to go in Long Island. So yeah,
- 14:52yeah. The ball messaged me and talked about a place called was it
- 14:56eight Bit Diner or eight Bit Cafe something like that. Oh, is it
- 15:00like an old style arcade or something. No, it's a it's like it
- 15:05looks like a little restaurant but has like a like an eighties video game theme,
- 15:11like there was pac Man stuff on the wall. Yeah, I love
- 15:13it already. Yeah, like burgers and fries, that kind of place.
- 15:16It looks good. You know what. I'll have to message him and find
- 15:20out what exactly his plans are for the weekend, if you spending the whole
- 15:22weekend out there, if he's just coming out on Saturday or something. But
- 15:28you know, I'd like to spend some time with them and uh, maybe
- 15:31go to some of these places with them. I think, yeah, I
- 15:33have some ideas there and get the sandwich, the sandwich that he won't shut
- 15:37up about, I know, yeah, the chop cheese. I looked online
- 15:43like what they look like, and then like apparently you can make them at
- 15:46home. They're pretty easy to make. Yeah. It's just yeah, well
- 15:50we'll see you know. Yeah, but the experience, you know, right
- 15:54right right? I think, yeah, hopefully we get the attitude at the
- 15:58bodega that says, get there and take your sandwich with you. Ye,
- 16:03that kind of the Yeah. I was talking to my nephews and niece about
- 16:08you know, what kind of trinkets do they want back from New York?
- 16:11And I'm convinced him that they want rats, So I'm gonna I'm gonna bring
- 16:17them back some rats. Some rats. That's what I told them, were
- 16:22a bunch of rats. I'll grab some they do. Yeah. Yeah,
- 16:26man, when when uh, when it's garbage day and there's a pile of
- 16:32bags on the sidewalks, sometimes you just you see them. Five of his
- 16:37family are just having a piece of man. Yeah, man, yeah,
- 16:44I don't know, dicky birds. And you can't make it at home.
- 16:48The okay, we have McDonald's at home. Yeah, that's right, that's
- 16:52right. I'll do say such things. Yeah that's funny. All right.
- 16:59Well, why don't get into the Star Trek news or the sure topic.
- 17:03So yeah, one of those, let's do one of them. Fun will
- 17:07now come out, all right. So our main topic is we just saw
- 17:18Star Trek Discovery season five, episode eight, Labyrinths. The official log line
- 17:25is when Captain Burnham is trapped within a mind escape designed to test her worthiness
- 17:30to receive the Progenitor's powerful technology. Book Rayner and the crew of the USS
- 17:36Discovery must hold off the brain long enough for her to escape. So,
- 17:41I mean that is pretty accurate description of what happened. Yeah, I missed
- 17:48this one. Rats eating pigeons, well, as long as they get rid
- 17:55of the Do you remember a few years ago? Do you remember a few
- 18:00years ago the pizza rat? Yes, we were hearing about that or was
- 18:03that? H yeah, I saw that? All right, so all right,
- 18:11I didn't know. I didn't know if it was regional or yeah.
- 18:15Yeah, yeah, no, I haven't been to New York City. Yeah,
- 18:21I've been there before. I went there like ten years ago. Oh
- 18:23you have Okay, Well it was nice to saw the Spider Man musical.
- 18:32Yeah, I really did. I've heard Oh yeah, okay, it was
- 18:34really bad. But yeah, alright, so uh so this episode, Yeah,
- 18:45it's really funny to me that when Discovery first started, we did that
- 18:48that audio thing where we talked about, you know, mysteries of the mind
- 18:52and magic blood and that's all these guys do right down to the end man.
- 18:59Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So the first thing that jumped out at
- 19:03me. Somebody posted a picture of the librarian last week. I'll just I'll
- 19:08just call her that because I can't remember her name, and people were wondering
- 19:15if this is a Klingon because she looks like a like a Klingon. She's
- 19:19got the TMG style long crimpy hair. Mm hmm, are you there?
- 19:26Am I losing you? I'm here? Oh oh, I think you're losing
- 19:32me. Are you there? Yeah? I lost you for a minute,
- 19:34but it looks like we're back all right. There she is. Yeah.
- 19:38So she's got the long, crimpy tng klingon style hair, she's got forehead
- 19:45ridges, she's got gray a gray pleather outfit with big shoulders. Yeah,
- 19:56Chaz business wondering if she has time crystals. I don't. Oh, she
- 20:00has time crystals. I also don't know if she's a lingon because they never
- 20:03they never said, they never, they never say, And it's like,
- 20:07come on, how can you design a character like this? You know that
- 20:12people are going to wonder if that's what she is and never and never say
- 20:18either way. I'm telling you, man, there's gonna be like a three
- 20:22book arc that you can buy that's all about the adventures of the librarian,
- 20:26and it's gonna have her whole backstory and this library's backstory and how it travels
- 20:32everywhere. Yeah. Yeah, how your library is without honor my library?
- 20:40Yeah, I don't know. So I was kind of I was mildly annoyed
- 20:45by that. Yeah. I was also mildly annoyed that book had to wear
- 20:53her her outfit in Michael's mind. Oh yeah, if Michael's if Michael is
- 21:02projecting her ex boyfriend and women's clothing. I mean there's a lot unpacked there,
- 21:07just a lot it's unpacked there, and I'm not the guy to do
- 21:11it right, right. Yeah, I didn't put together that it was the
- 21:15same outfit, but yeah, you're right. Book, it's book and address
- 21:22with big shoulders. That's what it is, those big shoulders. I will
- 21:30say, you know, as I suffer for the people and I watched the
- 21:32Will Wheaton Show, I did think it was funny that they started the episode
- 21:37with Will reading a giant book and he's saying something like Butterfly in the sky
- 21:45or what was it, like, Beta's in the sky I can fly twice
- 21:49as I Yeah, I was like, all right, all right, that's
- 21:52pretty funny because they're reading the Beta said text, which, uh, that
- 21:57was kind of cool, Like there's a secret text in the secret library.
- 22:03Weird to me that nobody had made a copy of it, Like you couldn't
- 22:06just download the text somewhere, you had to go, yeah, actually read
- 22:11the book. Yeah, this doesn't make sense. I you know, I
- 22:15can understand the idea of protecting these artifacts. M M. But you know
- 22:26we have seed vaults, right, that's not the only seed of that kind,
- 22:33right, that's the last one in case the others get destroyed. So
- 22:38this, this should be the same situation. This should be the last copies
- 22:42of all these things, this, this stuff, everything in that place should
- 22:47be digitized and somewhere else it all. Yeah, go ahead, I was
- 22:52just gonna say it. Also, excuse me. It also does not make
- 22:59sense that an incredibly xenophobic species like the brain would participate in this multicultural library
- 23:11thing and they would have their own one of a kind artifacts being held at
- 23:17this library. It makes no sense, none, none, whatsoever. Yeah,
- 23:21none whatsoever. I thought about that as well. That seemed very weird
- 23:25to me. I mean it was just a throwaway line just to be able
- 23:27to say why the brain were there, Yeah, which is a weird justification
- 23:32when you think about it. The other thing that that kind of threw me
- 23:34is if you heard that that that theory out there that the first Indiana Jones
- 23:41movie with or without Indiana Jones doesn't matter because the Nazis would still grab the
- 23:45arc, open it and still die whether or not India was there. Yeah,
- 23:51so that's kind of the same thing with the brain in this technology.
- 23:55Yeah. Yeah, they're not going to pass the test. They're not going
- 23:56to pass the test. Yeah, yep. So the only the only well,
- 24:03the only reason they got is because Michael got it first, gave it
- 24:06up. Yeah, so that's okay. Yeah, and the other what's her
- 24:15name mack lol lol? Yeah, no, lawless Data's daughter lock lock and
- 24:22mall. Which which is which? Who's this lady? Here? May the
- 24:29idea that she's somehow the head of the Breen Now what those sets like,
- 24:40those sets it's like the Game of Thrones, and they're like, we want
- 24:42her to be Sircy. I know, I know, but and I don't
- 24:47never watch that show, so don't get the reference. But it doesn't matter.
- 24:48It's it's again I go back to, this is an incredibly xenophobic species.
- 24:56Mm hmm. She's a human. It doesn't matter who she was married
- 25:00to. They're not going to accept her right as their leader. They're just
- 25:04not right. But you know, she gave some you know, some some
- 25:11rousing words and there we go, you know, the same kind of speech
- 25:15you would give when it's time for the Mighty Ducks to go beat the bad
- 25:18guys. I mean, that's kind of what it sounded like to me.
- 25:23But ah, I know, I don't know. I feel like they've you
- 25:29know, we've waited thirty five years to get some backstory on the Brain,
- 25:34and they just kind of squandered it. It's like the thing that we talk
- 25:41about, like it's almost there, like it almost could be good. And
- 25:45I think, I think I said this last week that I wish they had
- 25:48told this story or something similar to it in the twenty fifth century, with
- 25:53characters that we we still care about. Yeah, you know, and I
- 25:57got thinking about it a little further, and it would have been very easy
- 26:04to tie the Brain into the Picard season three story arc, where it's this
- 26:17faction of the of the Founders that's still pissed off about the Dominion War and
- 26:22they hook up with the Brain, who's also still pissed about the Dominion War
- 26:26because you know, they were carrying the weight. Towards the end, they
- 26:32were carrying the Kardassians, they were carrying the Dominion and then because Odo cures
- 26:40the Lady, we're gonna end this war. So I'm sure they're still pretty
- 26:45sore about that in the twenty fifth century. So to have this other faction
- 26:51of changelings hook up with them and Dominion War part two, I think that
- 27:00would have been better than what we're seeing right here with this. And and
- 27:06you could have the reveal of the of the you know, oh, they're
- 27:11liquid people, kind of similar to the Founders, or or even oh it
- 27:18just came to me now, but you know, they determined that that changelings
- 27:22and brains can procreate. Right now, there's a third subspecies that has the
- 27:30abilities of some and you know, the abilities of both some of the abilities
- 27:33of both of them. And yeah, well I was thinking, like,
- 27:37you know that that scene in last week's episode where they were at Starfleet and
- 27:42then the brain showed up, I think you could have had because you know,
- 27:45they've already established that there's multiple brain factions. You could have had like
- 27:51a good faction there trying to negotiate peace with the Federation so that Wes the
- 27:56Federation gets this technology, they want to be on their good side, and
- 27:59then you know, this guy shows up and he's like, hey, you
- 28:02know no, we're gonna come get that power and we're gonna take over.
- 28:06So then that way you had, like why there would be good ones that
- 28:10work with the library. Why you know, why this power could be a
- 28:15benefit for everybody, not just the federation. Yeah, you would have that
- 28:19established and it would make more sense. Yeah, you know, I don't
- 28:26know why was this? So this lady, this is mal that's her name.
- 28:30Yeah, Locke mall Okay, So Locke is the brain is the Prince
- 28:34of Breen, who's dead, right, right? Right? So maybe I
- 28:40missed something. But why was he if he's the Prince of Breen, why
- 28:45was he working in the loading dock at his uncle's warehouse. That's a good
- 28:52question. I don't get that. I don't understand that. Yeah. I
- 28:59mean they alluded that his uncle didn't like him, but you would think that,
- 29:02but you're the prince, but you're the Prince Supreme, right right,
- 29:06Yeah, you would think his uncle would have just been like, here's money,
- 29:10go to a casino planet and enjoy your life. Yes, yes,
- 29:12Like he has his own suite at Quarks, right, like the main the
- 29:17main Quarks on Riza, like the you know, the Blagio of of of
- 29:23Quarks franchises, and he's just on the top floor. He was grounded.
- 29:29I guess. I guess. Yeah, I don't know. I don't like
- 29:33to show the thing is like it's like it's a decent first draft, but
- 29:40they could, like just little tweaks would make it so much better, you
- 29:44know. But there's so many like little things that are just dumb. Yeah,
- 29:48and and a lot of them are them. And I'm pretty sure I
- 29:53said this last week. They write themselves into a corner. So she's in
- 29:56okay, So she's stuck in her own head, right, and she's got
- 30:02to find her way out of this maze of her own creation right in her
- 30:07head, right, Okay, So two things, two things I have.
- 30:12While she's in this pretend mays in her head, she pulls up her tricorder.
- 30:19Yeah, her holographic or or replicated tricard. You can't you can't map
- 30:27a route for yourself with this tricorder. I mean, eight hundred years ago,
- 30:33Picard and Crusher in a cave looking at their their old you know,
- 30:37takee deck looking tricorder, talking about, oh there's a there's an intersection up
- 30:42ahead, we need to take the one on the right. Yeah, Okay,
- 30:47she's got this eight hundred year more advanced replicated tricorder and it's in her
- 30:53head, so really it can do whatever she wants it to do. Right,
- 30:59And at one point she does pull it up and there's like a partial
- 31:03like I don't know if she was only mapping where she had been but not
- 31:07where she's going. Yeah, and it just it made no sense. It
- 31:11made no sense whatsoever. And then yeah, even just the basic mechanics of
- 31:18how to navigate a maze, there are much easier ways to navigate a maze
- 31:23than lugging a bucket of sand around with you right and leave and leaving a
- 31:29trail on the floor. Yeah. The two, the two, the two
- 31:32easiest methods that come to mind. Take your take one of your hands and
- 31:37put it on the wall. And no matter what you do, if you
- 31:40don't take your hand off that wall, you will find your way out.
- 31:42That is one way. The other way is you decide left or right.
- 31:47I'm only making left turns or I'm only making right turns, and you will
- 31:51find your way out. So buckets of sand and yeah, I was wondering,
- 31:57like, you know, she's got the thing on her wrist, that
- 32:00the programmable banner that turns into anything. Why not turn like a little drone
- 32:06that goes just maps the whole thing out for you, or or replicate a
- 32:12set of stairs, yeah, or a ladder or christ their bookshelves climb to
- 32:21the top of the bookshelf. Yeah, it just it just look around.
- 32:24Yea, hey, there's there's the door. I think I'm gonna go that
- 32:28way that or or I mean, you know this is not the real library.
- 32:35You know, this is a figment of your imagination. Start tearing ship
- 32:38up, start start turning shelves over. Also, officially, it is not
- 32:45a labyrinth unless David Bowie's in it. Okay, So all right, yeah,
- 32:51was he there? I don't. I mean, I wasn't pay attention.
- 32:53I don't. I don't like this show, so I wasn't paid attention.
- 32:57No, no, No, the eighties film Labyrinth has they I know,
- 33:00I know, I know, I know being but he was not there.
- 33:01Now, he was not there. Sorry, j That wasn't the time
- 33:07she had to cry it past the tests exactly. Okay, that that part
- 33:13of it, I will say I did enjoy because I do think it was
- 33:16good that she had to kind of knock her own self down a bit.
- 33:20Why why she does the thing she does? Right, She's just sitting there
- 33:23by herself crying, and she goes, I'm an asshole. Yeah, everything,
- 33:27everything's my fault because I'm an asshole. Yeah, but you know what,
- 33:30that's not. That's not bad for character development to have that inward.
- 33:35Look, you know, I guess, I guess. I mean it's a
- 33:38few seasons too late because now we don't get to see the changes. But
- 33:44it's it's not bad. I don't know. Yeah, that was my good
- 33:49thing about it. At least I did enjoy that. I thought, oh,
- 33:52yeah, I gotta I forgot, I gotta do one of those.
- 33:54Yeah, I'm gonna need a few minutes keep talking. Okay, it's not
- 34:00it's not that outfit on book can tell you that. That's not my good
- 34:05thing. She's pretty hot. She's pretty hot though, all right. Yeah.
- 34:10I like how every every shot in this thing looks like a like a
- 34:15nineties album cover, Like what would this band? What would this band be
- 34:20called? Oh god, they look like want to be I don't know,
- 34:25like want to be guar or something with those outfits, I don't know,
- 34:31chat room, what would this band be called? Right here? I think
- 34:38the same he want some rubber ridges. I think he means you who's to
- 34:45say, who's to say, Yeah, who doesn't like a sexual library?
- 34:49And every now and then my wife's the libraryan oh there you go. That's
- 34:57gotta be what it is. That's what it is. Yeah, that's right,
- 35:00yeah, yeah, yeah, one thing that you know, like I
- 35:05said, I suffer for the people. So this week on the movie Showy,
- 35:08they interviewed David Ayella Booker and what was kind of neat was he talked
- 35:13about how he was originally in the Royal Shakespeare Company in the early two thousands
- 35:20and he was there with Patrick Stewart. Oh nice, And so he did
- 35:23talk a lot with Patrick Stewart about Star Trek. But this is, you
- 35:28know, way before Discovery, so like they were just they were just talking
- 35:30about it, and so apparently Patrick let him know like, yeah, I'd
- 35:35love to be in Star Trek. It was so much fun and like shared
- 35:38a lot of stories because they were, you know, working together for such
- 35:42a long time. So apparently when he got the Cleveland Booker role, they
- 35:45met up by just by happenstance at the San Diego Comet Con before it was
- 35:52and he let Patrick know like, oh, I'm gonna be in Star Trek
- 35:53now, and I guess Patrick was really happy for him, so oh nice.
- 35:58Yeah, so that's kind of a cool story. Yeah, no,
- 36:00that is cool. Yeah, do you have your uh your good thing?
- 36:05Now? Is it the guns? Did you like the guns? Those are
- 36:08pretty cool? Yeah, I guess, I don't know. I don't know.
- 36:17By the end of the show, I'll have something, Okay, all
- 36:21right, I'll have some. So we got two more episodes left, and
- 36:27uh, the way the schedules laying out, you and I will get to
- 36:29see the final episode together. So that's kind of cool. Okay, yeah
- 36:32cool, yeah, yeah, but uh, next week, I don't know
- 36:39the name of the episode. There was a little bit of a clip on
- 36:43The Will Wheaton Show, but the clip really didn't show much. It was
- 36:45like they were under attack and they had to run somewhere. So pretty standard
- 36:52for most stars. Yeah. Yeah, there's booker with a book. That's
- 36:59that's neat books. Book books book. Yeah. So where did it?
- 37:08Where did it end? They have all the clues or they have all the
- 37:13clues and they have the location. They copied the clues and then gave the
- 37:19clue to the brain too too. Uh right? What happened at the end
- 37:25the threatening them with something and they gave up the Oh, they were going
- 37:29to destroy the library, right right, and and so Michael gave them all
- 37:34the clues. But Michael was told by by spirit Book that there's something you
- 37:39have to know about the tech. I don't know if that's how to how
- 37:45to unlock it or where it's at or whatever. Right m hm. She
- 37:52was given some special piece of information that the brain do not have, So
- 37:58it doesn't really matter that they have the clues, at least that's how I
- 38:05interpreted that. All right, Yeah, okay, you sound so excited.
- 38:16I'm just I'm not. Yeah, I'm not. I'm just not. Well,
- 38:22should we get the listener feedback or well before we do that, I
- 38:29am I am genuinely curious to find out what Saru has been doing. I
- 38:36would like to see him again. As much as I don't like this show,
- 38:38I'm I'm I've been pretty consistent over the last five or six years that
- 38:43I like him as a character, and I and I and I wish that
- 38:49I wish he was in a different show. That's I guess that's what I
- 38:52wish for. Yeah, I wish he was on a different show. I
- 38:57like him, I like his character, I like the actor. I like
- 39:00the backstory for his his people that they were prey but they weren't really pray.
- 39:06I like all of that. Yeah, I don't like it in this
- 39:07in this show right so, but I'm but I'm curious to see him again,
- 39:13to find out what he's been up to, what he's been working on,
- 39:15what's going on in the future. Are we getting a wedding? Is
- 39:19there going to be a very on a very special Star Trek Discovery, Star
- 39:23Trek Discovery the two hour wedding episode? Are we getting that? I don't
- 39:28know. Are we cannot wait with his suit and just run around with handguns?
- 39:35Yeah? Action Saru. I cannot wait. I want to see Saru
- 39:44say yes to the dress episode. We better get our Saru bachelor party.
- 39:51I want to see what that's like. Yes, yes, yeah, Well
- 39:59I want to see what what's up with him? I want to see what
- 40:07are their names? Detmer and WoT. I want to see what they've been
- 40:12up to. Did they get the Enterprise back to space Dock? Are they
- 40:15Are they coming to the rescue in the Enterprise. I know it's it's kind
- 40:19of cliche, but you know, we set it up. Let's you know,
- 40:22let's knock him down. Literally. The Enterprise has saved Discovery before,
- 40:28so why not. Yeah, yeah, So all right, well let's get
- 40:36to listener feedback. We've got uh sure, so sure listener feedback. All
- 40:47right, so we do have some listener feedback. Got chasm is waiting on
- 40:51the line. But first, real quick, we got a voicemail. We
- 40:53haven't had one in a while, so let's let's play our voicemail. Okay,
- 41:00Hey guys, my name is rod T and calling from Surprise, Arizona,
- 41:05and I just wanted to thank you for your show. I appreciate the
- 41:09critical thinking and love what you guys are doing like yourselves. I think the
- 41:16writing on Star Trek Discovery is very poor and it is it's not Star Trek,
- 41:23it's I think it's Star Trek in name only, and so I agree
- 41:28with a lot of your analysis. On your last show, you asked if
- 41:31there were any instances where Star Trek set phasers to a wide beam, and
- 41:37I found three in the original series return of the Arc on season one episode
- 41:44twenty one, d Space nine, the Way of the War, your season
- 41:47four episode one, and a Voyager season one episode thirteen to Texus, and
- 41:54in each of these, we see them using a wide beam on a hand
- 41:59phaser or a phaser rifle. So yeah, Discovery could have used this in
- 42:04their episode from last week. Anyway, keep up the good works. The
- 42:07guys are doing an awesome job and I love your show. Take care,
- 42:12go bye. So yeah, that was a rob t joining us from Arizona.
- 42:21I did try to make him a cactus seeing that he was in Arizona,
- 42:25but the only graphic I could find was a taco, So he was
- 42:30a taco. Looks like Dan, Oh there is, there's Dan. Yeah,
- 42:37but yeah, I was losing to you guys, so I took a
- 42:40minute to reset, so I missed sure most of his most of his comments.
- 42:47He's not a fan of Star Trek Discovery, so that's right, that's
- 42:51right, and everyone's right. He deserves a NERD alert, so here we
- 42:53go, warning warning, NERD alert, NERD alert. He he gave us
- 43:00three examples from Star Trek where the wide beam just for a stune, ah
- 43:14you know, yeah, yeah, all right, cool, Yeah, thanks
- 43:19for calling man, appreciate it. Yeah, absolutely. And then also another
- 43:23caller we got, We got Jazz Bis there is you had an actual real
- 43:29caller here, Hey, listen, jas Bis, I hope you don't mind,
- 43:35but Scott's not here this week, so we're kind of just feeling around
- 43:38finding our way, so please just just bear with us. We're lost and
- 43:44scared of trying to hold things together, but you know, we're Yeah,
- 43:47we're just feeling our way around. What was funny is when when Scott left,
- 43:52he said, we asked him who's in charge, and he said,
- 43:55you guys figure it out, So I just put the coin over here.
- 44:02So he's so he's just like Starfleet in the thirty seconds ent, exactly exactly,
- 44:09this takes place. Whatever, ye whatever, I'm gonna go ride my
- 44:15motorcycle this weekend. That's all. Yeah, that's all that matters. So
- 44:21would you think would would you think? Well, okay, I do believe
- 44:27somebody watched Labyrinth, and I do believe somebody watched Harry Potter and the Goblet
- 44:31of Fire this season because there's all the clues and you know, Willy Wonka
- 44:36and everything. So it's just I don't know. This series is just jumbled
- 44:43up right now. All the clues almost came too easy for him, like
- 44:46each clothes, because they figured it out so easily, like there was no
- 44:51really challenge for him, right, Like when they found one clue and I
- 44:57don't know, it was like this thing was supposed to be hid in all
- 45:00these years. How did they find these clues so quick and new each planet
- 45:04so easily? So well, because you know, they knew to look for
- 45:07it. The Goblin King told him what was up? Yes, yes,
- 45:08yes, and they mentioned you know, and that was on a labyrinth.
- 45:15I was like, oh, yeah, I watched that movie because I had
- 45:19no idea what the hell that thing was how to google it? So mm
- 45:22hmmm. So what it's called a Yeah, yeah, it's like a dungeon,
- 45:29but it's it's like they threw you in there and it's kind of like
- 45:32a dark corridors and everything, and then I just leave you there. Okay,
- 45:38So that's why she was saying like, we don't have dungeons here,
- 45:42but we have yet so mm hm oh I missed that, yeah, and
- 45:46then she made the bad jokes. Must I must have been playing angry Birds
- 45:51I had, you see, That's what happened to me. Like I was
- 45:54scrolling on Facebook and then I had to replay it last night, and basically
- 45:59what I did I fast forward the parts that I wasn't paying attention to That
- 46:05kind of helps, you know, if you're paying attention to a part,
- 46:07you know you don't have to watch that again. You just fast forward to
- 46:09the other parts. Yeah, kind of dozed off on so and the sad
- 46:15thing on the very end, on the clue where she figures it out.
- 46:19For some reason, I played on my phone again. So that's how bad
- 46:24it was. I was like, oh, you trek a national treasure so
- 46:29far? No, yeah, yes, this is definitely a national treasure here.
- 46:37Oh yeah, and and uh, the band name should be psychobabble because
- 46:42they mentioned psychobabble today, so I was like, that's a new term.
- 46:46I always heard technobabble, but now psychobabble, and I think that's perfect for
- 46:52this show. I feel like, yeah, I know the name of the
- 46:58band. What's the name of the band? The Navy untitled Michael Burnham Project?
- 47:07Nice? Nice? And then that works? Yeah, I just want
- 47:14to know how, Like, all right, I think the lieutenant is lock
- 47:19because every time she was talking, that lieutenant would like kind of nod his
- 47:23head and look over at her, like if you rewatch it. The lieutenant
- 47:31lieutenant, I don't know, he's got a helmet on, So we don't
- 47:35know who the hell the guy is. But yeah, that's my guess because
- 47:38I have a feeling that he's alive or something. There's something up. I
- 47:44mean, he's made a gas. No, I think the whole reason she
- 47:45needs to find the progenitor Texest so that she can resurrect him. So because
- 47:52that's why, that's why she wants it at this point. Okay, so
- 47:54you got space uses versus space No, No, you're the I'm wondering if
- 48:02if she makes it to the end of the season, if she doesn't want
- 48:07to sacrifice, Yeah, like if she needs to sacrifice herself for Locke to
- 48:12come back, Okay, and it feels like that, Yeah, and somehow
- 48:20that bring unite together and they yeah, everybody, the whole universe unites and
- 48:24they're all in peace. Well, it would give them, miss give them,
- 48:30I miss that. So what was I was saying? Yeah, I
- 48:32was saying, if there's gonna be a way that somehow or another Maul has
- 48:38to sacrifice herself to bring back Locke, it would be very Romeo and Juliet
- 48:44of them, right, Yeah, So I could see something like that happening
- 48:52mmhm, and then unite everybody. Oh, oh, real quick, captain
- 48:57on the bridge there is, Scott says hello, right right, yeah,
- 49:08right right, staying at attention. He's Scott, uh, well we got
- 49:15you. What size hat do you wear? Buddy? Oh it's making size
- 49:22too big. He's gonna yeah, he didn't he doesn't know. He didn't
- 49:30listen to the beginning of the show, so he doesn't know. Ye know
- 49:32what we're talking about. But anyway, he's word task business taking his spot
- 49:40and now he's saying bye bye bye or b there must be a Michigan thing.
- 49:50Probably they're close to Canada, so he's got almost got that accent.
- 49:58I do love that he asked about like some sort of convention that's going on
- 50:00over there, and he's like, I won't be there, but who's going.
- 50:07That's awesome. Yeah, yeah, we're gonna tune in next week find
- 50:13out Scott's got a publicist. Now yeah, yeah, we can't. We
- 50:15can't message him directly. We gotta go no, no, no, we
- 50:17have to talk to his people. That's awesome. Yeah, it's gonna be
- 50:22like Bill Murray and have his own number. It's on one night hundred number
- 50:25and that's the only way you can contact him. Yeah. Absolutely, Maybe
- 50:32I'll get into contact with you. Maybe not. Yeah, yeah, you
- 50:37might not have a third You're gonna be in the basement with Chad. He's
- 50:39like, no beat in the base of the Chad. I love it.
- 50:45Yeah, yeah, don't worry. He's he's leaped up pretty good. He's
- 50:51whoa, whoa, whoa on the skin. So he's no, no,
- 50:57no, Early, I need to hear all this. Ye oh man,
- 51:07So Chaspins, where do you think we're going? Man? We got we
- 51:09got two more episodes of this. That's what's gonna like, how's this going
- 51:14to end? Like? Because you got badly? Yeah? I know.
- 51:19Okay, Well I'm thinking last year, Okay, we had Picard, we
- 51:22had two episodes left and we were excited. Yeah, and I got to
- 51:25you Scott would have brought a laptop or something that this was Picard last year
- 51:30to discuss this episode, because like the last three episodes of the Card were
- 51:37like amazing last year. Yeah, and this is the season, you know,
- 51:42series finale, So this should be really huge, This should add up
- 51:45to something. Yeah, it won't, but I promise you there's not going
- 51:52to be a real device. It's going to be friendship is the magic that
- 51:54can the universe. Well, you saw this episode. It was kind of
- 51:59like a bottle episode in a way. They'll past three have been that way.
- 52:04Yeah, because if you noticed, it was all blue screen. You
- 52:07just duplicated a bunch of brain because you don't have to do much makeup because
- 52:10most of those guys are all computer generated. There was copy and paste,
- 52:16like y'all look the same. Yeah. The library was easy to do.
- 52:22You just had to do a couple of corridors to go to the library.
- 52:25Yeah, and then to make up on the librarian. And that's about it.
- 52:31Do you do you think that we will get uh? You know like
- 52:36Voyager had all those library promos where like the cast was in a library and
- 52:39talking about books. Do you remember this? No? No, Yeah,
- 52:44so they wanted you to read back in the nineties. I guess yes they
- 52:49did. Okay, yes, see I don't remember that. I don't remember
- 52:52that at all. No, I have an Oklahoma We don't read. So
- 52:58yeah, yeah, they're there. We just care about football and that's it.
- 53:05So you know, you know, into fancy book learning. There we
- 53:09go. That's what I'm talking about. Like right there, like there's there
- 53:13were it's like a promotional thing they did to help get people into libraries and
- 53:16read more. I've never seen this. Yeah, they didn't have with them,
- 53:22what the hell? No? No, no, he directed half of
- 53:24those episodes. Yea LeVar should have been in there, like future with the
- 53:30gray hair and everything. Yeah. No, But I guess what I'm asking
- 53:34is, like, do we think Discovery Crew is going to do something like
- 53:36that modernize these promos? No? No, well I don't know. I
- 53:42mean, I guess so broke right now they can even do promotions. So
- 53:49so, back in the nineties, Voyager was the type of show that a
- 53:52family could sit down and watch it together. So to have a positive message
- 53:57for children about going to the library made sense, right. No one under
- 54:01eighteen knows who these characters are, true, true? Yeah, yeah,
- 54:07So some random says I should go to the library. He's married to the
- 54:15librarian the library a couple of times. Oh I've been No, No,
- 54:19I'm saying I've been in the library plenty of times. I'm saying that.
- 54:22If I turn to my eleven year old son and says and told him that,
- 54:25you know, Cleveland Booker thinks you should go to the library and check
- 54:30out a book. Hey, I drive by the library often there you go
- 54:37SAYE, he doesn't you know. He doesn't know who Cleveland Booker is.
- 54:40He doesn't know who Michael Burnham is. He doesn't know who any of these
- 54:44characters are. So them promoting the library is it's not gonna help. So
- 54:51how old were you when you watched Star Trek when you first watched it?
- 54:57So I was always aware of Star Trek because the original series was something that
- 55:01was just on TV from time to time, and I would see it.
- 55:06I remember seeing the Wrath of Khan and search for Spock in the theater with
- 55:15my parents and my aunt, and I remember thinking that these are not Star
- 55:21Wars and they're boring. And then I was ten years old when TG came
- 55:27out, and I remember watching the first episode and thinking this is kind of
- 55:31long and boring. And then I was probably around thirteen or fourteen years old
- 55:39when I started catching reruns of TS at like eleven thirty at night on WPIX.
- 55:50WPIX, which was so New York City based syndicated station which later became
- 55:58the wb affiliate for New York City, so they would show reruns of TOS.
- 56:04And then I started watching TNG in regular like run probably around the third
- 56:15or fourth season, and that's when it just it all came together for me
- 56:21and I just started consuming everything at that point. Yeah, it was about
- 56:27probably nine, eight or nine when I actually watched him Paul Knows wpi X
- 56:32Channel eleven and see in Oklahoma. When they premiered Next Gen. It came
- 56:38on at ten thirty pm on Sunday. Oh wow, Yeah, which is
- 56:43horrible. Yeah, because if you're a kid, you know, you're getting
- 56:47ready for school and you could watch, like you had to stay up super
- 56:52late just to watch Next Gen. And so it was really hard for me.
- 56:57Yeah, I didn't get into it until like I was like nineteen or
- 57:00twenty, and that was because a friend of mine, his uncle, was
- 57:05a writer on TG and so I wanted, Yeah, I wanted to learn
- 57:08about screenwriting, and so to teach me, he would assigned me episodes to
- 57:13watch and to kind of like analyze the characters and break them down. I
- 57:16do remember I went to the youth group that I was a part of.
- 57:22One of like the youth leaders was really into Star Trek and when when DS
- 57:29nine ended, he had a big party to invite everyone over to watch the
- 57:31finale, and so I went not caring about the show because he had a
- 57:37pool table and me and my friends were playing pool the entire Yeah, So
- 57:45what was interesting is wpi X used to show TG. They would show it
- 57:51twice a week, so it would be eight pm on Sunday in New York.
- 57:55It was eight pm on Sundays for TG. No Paul, I think
- 58:00it was eight pm on Saturdays, and then they re showed the same episode
- 58:07on Sunday night at like eleven, And then when TG and Deep Space nine
- 58:14were on the air at the same time, it was TG at seven on
- 58:17Saturday, deep Space nine at eight on Saturday, and they reshowed both of
- 58:23them Sunday night at eleven and midnight. And then when TG went off the
- 58:30air, I think Deep Space nine was on at seven and whatever Roddenberry project
- 58:37they picked up out of the trash can and recycled Earth Final Conflict or you
- 58:43know whatever, that was on right after and when they re showed them.
- 58:49When they reshowed Deep Space nine on Sunday, they would also have an old
- 58:53episode of TNG that they would reshow. So I was watching those first two
- 59:00seasons of TNG for the first times. As I was watching the later seasons
- 59:06of Deep Space nine at the same time, so I was all jumbled.
- 59:09I was all jumbled up. Oh well, but yeah, that's how my
- 59:15you know, that's how I had to watch it is everything was all jumbled,
- 59:17nothing was in order, and like I'll watch the seventh season of TG
- 59:24in some of these episodes I don't recognize because I missed some of them.
- 59:29Yeah, like I'll watch them, but I don't remember them at all,
- 59:32like growing up, and there's always the ones like when I was younger I
- 59:36can remember easily, but the ones later on I don't. So I used
- 59:40to tape all the episodes on VHS so that I could rewatch them. And
- 59:46because I would tape them on Sunday nights, I would start the tape and
- 59:52I would get an episode, a current episode of Deep Space nine and an
- 59:57old episode of TNG would be on these tapes together. So I remember having
- 1:00:01like this spreadsheet. Yes if I wanted to, if I wanted to go
- 1:00:07back and rewatch, yeah, you know, I'd have to put this tape
- 1:00:09in and then when I'm done, don't rewind it, leave it right there.
- 1:00:14Because a couple in a couple of months, when I'm doing my Deep
- 1:00:16Space nine rewatch, it'll be right there, and said, well, I
- 1:00:20don't want to get past this. Dan, you had a spreadsheet about watching
- 1:00:24Star Trek. Go ahead, nerd alert, nerd alert. Yeah, I
- 1:00:34mean that that is the most fitting thing at that point. Yeah. So
- 1:00:37what was even more nerdy is at one point I got a I got a
- 1:00:40friend at work into Star Trek and he wanted to watch some of the older
- 1:00:46episodes and catch up. And I said, yeah, I've got I've got
- 1:00:51the spreadsheet here. So I brought in a you know, this is how
- 1:00:55you watch it. It's like, yeah, it's like a murder thing.
- 1:00:59Yes, yes, So I brought in this box of tapes for him and
- 1:01:02I said, each tape has a number, and if you go and I
- 1:01:07say spreadsheet, it was It was a multi page sheet of paper. It
- 1:01:10was yes, yes, yes. So I said, okay, so if
- 1:01:15you look at it like this, this is the episode you want to watch,
- 1:01:19This is the tape number. You find the tape number, and then
- 1:01:21you got to look the label and see, no, it's not the first
- 1:01:22one, it's the second one. So fast forward about halfway through the tape
- 1:01:27and then you'll find it. Yeah that's aw. Yeah, those are gone.
- 1:01:31I have it all on DVD now. Yeah, the Days of my
- 1:01:36Star Trek Manifesto is gone. Yeah, what a tragedy. Tragedy. Yeah,
- 1:01:44and you know, looking looking back on it, looking back on it,
- 1:01:46I kind of wish I still had those tapes. I bet, because
- 1:01:52I you know, I didn't edit out the commercials. I just set the
- 1:01:55tape. And I would love to watch some of those commercials. Yes,
- 1:02:00yeah, Now that's the fun part watching like just oh man, they have
- 1:02:04those they have those YouTube like just yeah, what do they call them?
- 1:02:10Collections? Just a ton of old commercials playing back back back. Yeah.
- 1:02:15Yeah, people go nuts with that stuff. Man, it's you know,
- 1:02:17it's crazy. I listened to there was a YouTube video. It was audio,
- 1:02:22but it was a YouTube video, but it was it was like an
- 1:02:27hour. I didn't listen to the whole hour, but it was an hour
- 1:02:30of in store commercials from Kmart from like nineteen ninety one. Oh wow,
- 1:02:38oh wow. I used to watch the old McDonald's ones, like growing up,
- 1:02:45like the Ronald McDonald and yeah, all those like if you go on
- 1:02:49YouTube, you can watch all those and they're actually pretty entertaining. Sometimes there's
- 1:02:52this one I watched last Week with Jason Alexander, who Yeah, George Stanza
- 1:03:00on Seinfeld. But he was not just any Hamburger. I think it was
- 1:03:02the Mick d l t Yes that he was that he was one another side's
- 1:03:07cool. Yeah, yep. He was putting and dancing like it was like
- 1:03:10it was Broadway. But he was saying about a Yeah, that's what they
- 1:03:16got in trouble for because everything was in styrofoam back then. But he had
- 1:03:21a he had a full head of hair, and it's like, you know
- 1:03:22what he's he's not a bad looking dude. It might have been it might
- 1:03:28have been a two pay I don't know. It was seven eighty seven.
- 1:03:32It could have been his hair. I don't know. I'm not judging.
- 1:03:37That's what I was like. When you watch a TV show and you see
- 1:03:40the hairline on their first on the first season, and all of a sudden,
- 1:03:43the hairline gets thicker. Yeah, they did something there got on the
- 1:03:49Office. If you ever watch Well, that's that's the opposite. The first
- 1:03:52season they tried to make him look balding and then they abandoned that idea.
- 1:03:57Yeah, so it's yeah, it's just regular. It's his regular hair of
- 1:04:00season two going forward, because if you watch Kevin James and King of Queens,
- 1:04:04like it's thinner and then it gets your first mistake was if you watch
- 1:04:10Kevin James, no, I don't killed guy killed off his own wife on
- 1:04:16his Uh. I forgot about that one. I didn't watch that one.
- 1:04:24I tried to and it was so bad. I was like, no,
- 1:04:28I heard it was pretty bad. Yeah. Well, the modern sitcoms,
- 1:04:32they just it's like seven years of Young Sheldon and like that was seven years
- 1:04:36or seven That show has been on seven years. Yeah. And the crazier
- 1:04:42thing is The Connors is on its seventh season after they fired Roseanne. So
- 1:04:47the Connors have almost been on longer than the first series of Roseanne. Wow,
- 1:04:55that's just crying. Yeah, huh well, wow, there's as many
- 1:05:00episodes of The Connors and Roseanne. Yeah. I never got into the Connors
- 1:05:09and never really got into Roseanne, but I love that. That was kind
- 1:05:14of yeah, my Jenery. I don't know. I just watch that and
- 1:05:18I was like, yeah, that's kind of how my household runs. How
- 1:05:24about uh, how about the Wonder Years? Did you guys watch that one?
- 1:05:28Oh many? The original or the updated one? The originally? I
- 1:05:31never saw the updated one. Yeah, neither did I. Yeah, I
- 1:05:35watched the original for sure. We watched it as a family. Yeah,
- 1:05:39that final so that that's got punch, So so yeah, no, it
- 1:05:44does. What's funny though, is so that came out in the late eighties
- 1:05:48and it's set it's set in the late nineteen sixties in the beginning, so
- 1:05:54it was twenty years before, right, So if they were to do that
- 1:05:57show right now, it would be set in two thousand and four. Does
- 1:06:00that make you feel old? Because it makes me feel old. It makes
- 1:06:04me feel so old. Yeah, that'd be two thousand. I watched a
- 1:06:11reel this morning and it was this guy buying a copy of Grand Theft Auto
- 1:06:15Vice City, and the guy at GameStop was referring to it as retro gaming.
- 1:06:20This is not retro gaming. He's like, no, this is this
- 1:06:23is retrogaming. This game is almost almost twenty years old. Yeah. And
- 1:06:28then and then he said, uh, he said, the game came out
- 1:06:32in whatever, two thousand and two. Yeah, but it's it's the game
- 1:06:38is set in nineteen eighty six. Oh wow, So more time has passed
- 1:06:43from when the game came out to now than had passed from nineteen eighty six
- 1:06:46to when the game came out. Yeah, it's like last year. I
- 1:06:49watched back to the future and I'm sitting there and thinking, it's like,
- 1:06:54holy crap, there's more time that has passed since this is maybe yeah,
- 1:06:58the actual time period. And then of course after I see that, maybe
- 1:07:02this guy is like, hey, I got a DeLorean. You want to
- 1:07:04check it out outside? And he had a DeLorean with the flex capacitor and
- 1:07:11everything in there. Nice we have. We said, this was like,
- 1:07:15what would you use now instead of a Dolorean cyber truck? Truck is probably
- 1:07:20the only thing that you could use. I would say, PT Cruiser.
- 1:07:26Dude, you ever driven PT Cruiser? I drove the cruisers several times because
- 1:07:31my died and he gave us his PT Cruiser and that was that was so
- 1:07:36bad. It was so bad you gave it back. Yeah, it was
- 1:07:41so bad. I had one. They were they were a staple of uh,
- 1:07:45they were a staple of of rental car companies back in the early two
- 1:07:50thousands. So I drove. I drove a few of them. Yeah,
- 1:07:56and they had no power, Like you hit it, that thing would not
- 1:08:01move. So we dozer. It's not not a good car, so no,
- 1:08:08no, uh you know will Chasmis this this worked out? Uh?
- 1:08:12Pretty good? Why don't you join us at eleven next week? Next week?
- 1:08:16See if Yeah, we'll see if you know, we'll take Scott on
- 1:08:19as a caller instead of I don't think that's going to be on next week.
- 1:08:25He said he was going to be off for two weeks, so oh
- 1:08:27for two weeks? Yeah, oh, two weeks. Yeah. It hit
- 1:08:30us up. So he's not committed at all. No, no, I
- 1:08:36mean he's just got the gig and it's going on two week vacasion. I
- 1:08:39don't know, man, Yeah, yeah, I don't know. All right,
- 1:08:44okay, yeah, you know next week you'll see me on earl here,
- 1:08:49so yeah, hit us up. Okay. We also, do you
- 1:08:54have another caller? So let's bring all right, they bought all right?
- 1:09:00We also have Hipster Spock pop it up? Just listening, Hey, hipster
- 1:09:05Spock. We're accepting resumes because you know, yeah, Scott's that's not as
- 1:09:10committed as we thought. We're gonna do a reality show. We'll have roses
- 1:09:14at the end of each episode again or like do a guess who's going to
- 1:09:21be hosting next week? That's right, that's right, and you take bets
- 1:09:26and then whoever shows up, the guy who guesses the right answer wins the
- 1:09:32pop. There you go, there you go. Yeah, just stop by
- 1:09:36to say Dan check the link that I shared on the on the chat and
- 1:09:45it will say that it's January thirty first, nineteen eighty eight. That's a
- 1:09:53Sunday night, eight pm. It says Star Trek the Next Generation. Well
- 1:10:00he just pulled a will actually well, actually see here gig numbers I just
- 1:10:09posted on the Facebook group. All right, damn Lombardo, I got receipts.
- 1:10:14All right, there you go. I give up. He's got him,
- 1:10:17He's got him. I'm looking at it. Yeah, that was nineteen
- 1:10:19eighty eight, Yes, nineteen ninety eight, eighty eight, eighty eight.
- 1:10:25Okay, all right, I'm going to verify that. I'm going to click
- 1:10:29that link. I'll report back next week. We'll see, okay. Anyway,
- 1:10:34Yeah, I would love it if they had Troy and Riker in the
- 1:10:43last episode of Disco and Computer and Program. Yeah, real quick, that's
- 1:10:54the ending that Disco deserves. Either that or or Picard wakes up again and
- 1:11:00he's like, I'm gonna need a bigger flute. Yeah, oh my god,
- 1:11:04yes, at the time, at that time at band camp. There
- 1:11:11you go, there you go. I'm looking at that schedule that you posted
- 1:11:15their Hipster Stock Dan. Do you want to guess what was on after Star
- 1:11:19Trek? So, Star Trek this is nineteen eighty eight. Yes, Star
- 1:11:25Trek was on at eight o'clock. Yes, so the next show right after
- 1:11:30it? Oh, man, I don't know. It was apparently these two
- 1:11:38go hand in hand when you have Space Communism. Right after that, you
- 1:11:41want Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Oh, Lifestyles of the Rich and
- 1:11:44Famous. Robin Leitch, right, yeah, Robin Leech shall Lifestyles of the
- 1:11:51Rich and Famous, which was like Cribs Rights before Cribs. Yeah, oh
- 1:11:59my lord, what you think of the episode? Yeah? Anyway, just
- 1:12:05stop by Lombardo, all right, all right, man, keep up the
- 1:12:16work, guys. Thanks. We try without Scott, we try. Yeah,
- 1:12:19it's hard. It's hard keeping keeping this ship afloat without him. That's
- 1:12:25right, all right? By Yeah, Jasmine, you would watch the Lifestyles
- 1:12:32of the Richard Famous again, it's gotta be on YouTube. There's gotta be
- 1:12:35episode. I'm I'm sure it is. I'm sure. So all right,
- 1:12:41Well, we'll be back next week. Uh, you know, we'll see
- 1:12:44if we can make it without Scott. We don't know. We'll try.
- 1:12:46We're gonna try. We're gonna try. We will try for sure, all
- 1:12:50right. Uh, anything else up. He's never gonna take a day off.
- 1:12:56No, he's never. He's gonna feel so bad. Anything else that
