- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hi everybody, welcome into the Big Play Cleveland Show live right here on YouTube, presented by Fandle Ryan Tyler Nick Padone, joined by Gab Gaudi as well, a ton to jump into guys LeBron James, the decision we continue to wait.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Guardian's second half push begins in the Browns quarterback battle, really just heating up his training camp right around the corner, Nick, good morning, how are you?
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: You're morning, Ryan.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: Gab is kind of like sucked the positivity out of the room before we Vivian gone live with this whole LeBron thing.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I was doing a little bit better before I talk to Gab this morning, but Gab is not feeling very positive today, but that's okay.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Gab, do you have to morning?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I've lived my life as a Cleveland sports fan so far to this point to go in with low expectations, so when something good happens,
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'll feel way better about it.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can't hurt my feelings if I already hurt them.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: But I can't I can't live that way with this because like the teams that are left in it to like I I especially can like I can't I just can't do it.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_02]: I can't see him on the Warriors that doesn't
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: That doesn't fit.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: That's not how it's supposed to end.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's not supposed to end with him on the heat.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: The 76ers is like the most random outcome.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's going to be Cleveland.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to hold the faith.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: I really don't think it's going to be today because he's got another thing at Fanatics Fest today.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: I know everybody was disappointed that it wasn't yesterday.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it was ever going to be yesterday.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: But it continues to drag on.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's for sure.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of people that are getting fed up with waiting.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: You would have to pay him one billion dollars, I think, for him to say it on the fanatic stage.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Agreed, probably.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's a ton of smoke regarding LeBron.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Before we get into the sports, we'll talk a little bit of real life.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Gab, I'm not going to do oxy, but you are not in Ohio.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got no way to say him in Denver.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Denver.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: You've got no way from the smoke here in Northeast Ohio that is everywhere.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm assuming nowhere in Denver, skies are clear in Denver, is that the case?
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: Off for now, for now.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: They said it's supposed to get smokey here, too.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a mess.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: I heard Detroit at one point yesterday was the biggest major city in the world with the worst.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's is bad.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: And like we're not going to obviously get into any of the politics that have to go along with that.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: We'll save that for yesterday.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: But um.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like how's this happen like this wasn't if like this has happened a couple times over the last couple of years now This wasn't a thing though when we were growing up like unless I completely missed it But it's like got them out there right now.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember at least to this degree gap to you Is there ever been Remember guys, I don't know and then we're gonna clean off for a lot promise we'll get to sports in a second here
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: Her like we had hurricane days in Ohio.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm point.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think schools now have had smoke fire days.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Ohio, you really get all of the elements.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe we're not near any of them.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: It makes no sense.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're just, we're makes Ohio so special.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: I guess, yeah, like you deal with the reciprocal, but you don't have any of the direct like weather things happening directly in Ohio.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, it's weird.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I definitely don't like that like, you know, like you like to turn on the news, which is such a dangerous thing to do.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, don't eat the vegetables, like the vegetables will make you crap yourself.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then they're like you can't go outside like if you go outside you're not going to be able to breathe It's like okay, you got like what can we do like you can't go outside we can't eat the vegetables Like we're trying to you know follow all the rules here getting increasingly harder to do because it feels like the rules just keep compiling and our city revolves around
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: around a team that is quite literally maybe if not the most dysfunctional franchise and all sports.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: More on that later.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Good for you guys.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: That we're saving the bronze for last guys.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Something makes a lot of special greatest basketball player ever to step foot on this planet was born in Ohio and everybody wants to know is he going to come back.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Nick, yesterday LeBron James made his first public appearance since announcing he was leaving the lakers.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: We just want to know where he's playing next season.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't give it to us like some might thought during that live taping with Tyre's Halley Burton.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Tyre's did his best to pull it out of LeBron, but LeBron said he won't hold us up too much longer.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Nick, what are you making of the latest of this LeBron stuff?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Did you expect him to make his decision yesterday?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: No, and do you still feel like Cleveland is a destination for LeBron?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I didn't expect yesterday at the Fanatics Fest to be anything.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's not Michael Rubin.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: He does not own Fanatics.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: So like why would he give them that big news?
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously he had that live taping of the mind of the game podcast, which like,
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: just the fact that free agency was looming and he was going to be on the stage like of course there wasn't going to be a decision leading up to that because it's free marketing for his podcast was free hell entertainment obviously Haliburton was the guest host so no I wasn't surprised with this so I'm not surprised with any of this and like for these people that are like up in arms like oh I'm getting so tired of this like just announced something like I get it like it would be great to have an announcement but you
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know what this is saving us from talking about to Sean Watson versus Shidorah Sanders.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know what, and this is saving us from Ryan, potentially landing the greatest basketball player of all time on our team again.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: So it's worth the wait.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's always worth the wait when it comes to LeBron.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm willing to sit in out.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not one of these people that are like super upset that there's not been a decision made.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, this is a once in a time, the once in a lifetime athlete, you know.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: So like, if he wants to do this because he loves the attention, it's why he's doing
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like I honestly think he's probably had his mind made up since June 30th when he told the Lakers the pound salt and then he wasn't gonna play there again next year.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: His mind's made up It's just a matter of when he's going in an ounce this thing.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of 50-50 on being annoyed And also appreciating the the the grand gesture of it all before I get my take Gabler you stand on this little bron thing are you over it or are you just ready for him to make his announcement?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm ready for him to make his announcement, but I think we all knew that this is how it was gonna go.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: If you thought he was just gonna show up the first day and say, hey, I'm coming back to Cleveland, you're insane.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: If you also thought he was gonna say, I'm making my announcements on the fanatic stage.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, but you might be an idiot.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: like, seriously, like, really it's just not a sprint.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like, LeBron watches are always a marathon, not a sprint.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: And there's always so many twists and turns.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: And one hour, you think it's this team.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: And the next hour, you think that it's that.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's exactly what they're enjoying.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they're enjoying this right now.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, fully, and they understand that this is probably the last time that they get to enjoy this.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: They're milking it.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: I am kind of like 50, 50.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm my way home to work.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking, I'm like, I'm out of the problem.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Or am I appreciative of a little Ron?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I came to the conclusion, maybe I'm a little bit of both.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because on one hand, I understand.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about the greatest basketball player to ever play as a planet.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest sports careers, not even an NBA, but in sports history, in general.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: And this is like the bow on his career.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm a pro, I'm thinking I'm probably milk it out, too, right?
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is the kind of the finish on everything that I've dedicated my life to.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: But then, on the other hand, factoring in that he probably has known his decision for a while, he's up there on the stage, like a fat kid at a bakery, just smiling, waving hands like he's at a pageant.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, dude, just like, I don't wanna say you're 41 years old, like, do it, but at the same time, it's like, does it need to be this grand of a thing?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Good, like, let me ask you guys this.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: any other athlete, let's just say, and Kobe Bryant, God rest his soul, uh, baseball, I don't know.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Trial is the goat of there right now.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe she'll have obviously, but like, is any athlete doing this much charade?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it just a product of today's environment with social media?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: No one's on his level though.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that's a good point.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it comes down to.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: And like, you know, we're going to talk about Adam Silver, who, Adam Silver, who joins us and, you know, wanting a decision, because he wants to make the schedule.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: Think about that for a second, guys.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: There's a player that's going to turn 42 years old in December.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: The NBA's TV deal is worth 76 billion dollars.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it's currently being held up by a 42 year old.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's how good this dude is.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Still, that's how important he is to whatever team that he picks from an Altmaquart fit and we've had plenty of time to jump into how he fits on the calves versus the warriors versus the heat versus the sixers, but also just his cultural impact on the sport and that there's going to be national intrigue on wherever he decides to go, like that's just part of what comes with it.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he said yesterday at the Finax Vast he talked about it's not just a kind of a team basketball thing.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's factoring in his happiness.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's factoring in his family.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's factoring in all the other aspects besides actually touching the basketball and being on the court.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: That being said, does that make you feel better about the odds he comes to Cleveland or maybe a little bit worse?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure I'm sure this Canadian smoke is not helping things.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you could go ahead, I see you're
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't feel good about it.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't felt good about it from the start and I don't feel good about it now.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just fear that it's going to be the Golden State Warriors and then I might have to be out on the run for a little bit of time.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Nick?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: If it's not Cleveland, that's my fear to you.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's Miami.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's Philly.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: If it's not the calves, that is my fear, Ryan, because of what you said.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: With him talking about like the family and all that, there's so much that's been made of, well, it's a lot quicker to hop on a private jet and go from Van Nois in LA to San Francisco than it would be to fly into, I guess, accurate and because his house is still in bath, he doesn't have, I don't think his house is in Miami anymore.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think those are gone.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: You can get a house anywhere once.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you could, you're all right, right, right.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm just thinking of like for, yeah, like for family purposes, you know, like, and their familiarity, like, it's probably, you know,
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: familiarity, you know, we've talked with so much of a scoop and like that's Cleveland in Miami more so than Philly or Golden State.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: So like there are so many again twists and turns with this thing, but like we know his daughter specifically like means a lot to him.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: We know that she's kind of at that age now where she's getting into the sports.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's been a lot of volleyball and softball and he wants to be around to be at her games.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and, and again, it's probably quicker to get to her games in San Francisco than it would be to, you know, have her come to Akron or get back to LA or however they want to figure that thing out.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, it's tough.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like the, the family layer of it is real and it's, it's tough because like, just location wise where a lot further away from the rest of his family.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do, do you guys think, and this has been a topic really ever since he left the second time or even the first time really.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's not from Cleveland.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's from Akron.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: We obviously correlate those two things together.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Do we think we over-high-pump much Cleveland means silver on?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think so either.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't he say yesterday that like the 2016 championship, well, like when you were like, was ranking his favorite, like championships, favorite seasons, like 2016 calves?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like how could it not?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: That means the most well, obviously, you know, the team was 73 at nine, you were down 3-1, like even if it was, even if that championship was, you know, on the Indiana Pacers, I think that one means a little bit more, but it's because it broke the 52-year title drought that we had go in here.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that's a layer of it though that that play is towards LeBron coming back doesn't not that like, okay, since 1964, you could be the only two championships that the city has, you left and won another one and then came back and still, you know, was able to get another, like I do think that helps the legacy conversation, right?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay, so Gab, you kind of alluded to this and I'm going to ask you guys this question and I'll kind of get my opinion first.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Doomsday scenario LeBron doesn't sign with the Cavaliers, he goes somewhere else.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what's that worst case scenario to you guys?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Gab, you kind of just said it was Golden State.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: To me, it doesn't, it wouldn't bother me as much as I feel like it would bother the majority of people.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would kind of understand and enjoy watching and play basketball with Steph Curry.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, it would bother me more.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I know this isn't a team that has been in the talks, for instance, the Celtics.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would bother me more if you went to the Celtics.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Your guy's thoughts.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I didn't really think about that, but now that you're saying it, oh, I'm thinking about it and that would actually be really awful as well.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the Celtics fans would also hate it.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Would that be worse to you guys in Golden State?
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: It would be to me personally.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I just can't comprehend that as an option.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then people are acting like that would kind of, in a way, maybe taint his legacy to me, miss me with that.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not buying any of that.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: His legacy is above forever.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: But the Golden State?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, his legacy is... Oh, yeah, no.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I would kind of be like, I would not like you for at least...
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: two to three months here's what like I I hope here's what Lebron understands even if he isn't in love with Dan Gilbert which I think they're cordial but I'd say that's a fair way of stating it even if he doesn't love the idea of moving away from his family on to the other side of the country it's nine months
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: Can you give me nine months?
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Can you give me from October 1st through June and then you never have to step foot north east Ohio again really like when you're honored at the Cleveland Sports Awards hop on zoom when we do stuff in the area, you know, post an Instagram story like you never have to come back like give me nine months.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't think that's a big amount of time.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas like, okay, you're gonna really go to Golden State.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that would hurt his legacy a little bit because that's not the way that it's supposed to end.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I know he doesn't care about that.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's proven time and again that he doesn't care about that.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: He was never supposed to go on national TV and do an hour-long special and leave the calves for Miami.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: Even the decision after the calves won the championship, I think everybody was, at least expecting that he really wanted to go to LA.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: He wanted to wear the purple.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: but like it's stung when he made that decision to leave but we knew we had to get our affairs in order here in Cleveland that's for sure because we were left for dead again but this time it is a little bit different.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: We're like the cows won't be left for dead if he doesn't decide to come back to Cleveland.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like seeing him in a heat uniform again.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well, if they win the championship, you know Pat Riley's getting all that credit for making the yawnest trade.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: If he goes to Golden State, they're not championship contenders.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's just to go hang out with Steph and Dreyman.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: If he goes to Philly, like, they're so much pressure.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't go win in Philly, like, with those lunatic fans, like, you're a villain for what?
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Giving them your retirement tour, like Cleveland's the only place we're like,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: you could come back and not win a championship and sure there will be people and mostly the boomer crowd that will be mad and that will say well that's why he's not Michael Jordan and all this stuff but like Cleveland is the one team that just makes sense doesn't it like I mean like a delusional Homer I mean you're not being delusional but you know that he just makes he's not going to make a decision based on that he's going to do whatever he wants to we know that can I ask you guys a question please
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: is this is last season like we're acting like this is his final destination and done gap.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: What if you go somewhere else and does this again next year?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's what I'm doing in the realm of possibilities.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you literally just crawled into my mind and took my thought out there because that's kind of where I wanted to guide the conversation next is because I think people aren't really talking about this is people kind of assume this is going to be his last season but
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: at least from him.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: We've gotten zero indication that that's the case.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: And when you're factoring in where you're going to play maybe your last two years, again, I think that's an advantage towards Cleveland.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: For a couple of reasons, obviously Golden State, Steph Curry, Dre Montgomery, they're more towards LeBron's point of that part of their careers.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: Cleveland is building that young court.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Not a major design extension.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Moby looks jacked at the beach if that, if that photo I saw wasn't photoshopped, you never know
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of feel like gives the calves a little bit of an advantage there.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess you got to think about it.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's got four championships.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you wins another championship in Cleveland, you're not retiring.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he needs just one more to try to tie a Michael Jordan.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to be careful about how I phrase this because I know Jack and Bailey are lurking to clip me.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: After yesterday, nothing you say matters.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: When I posted my eyeball emojis last week on Thursday, I heard from somebody that I really trust that it was going to happen before 4 p.m. No, no, no, no, no.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, I'm, I'm not one of those.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: And like, you know, here we go again, dot, dot or whatever.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm, I'm not posted any of that stuff because I had like three texts from three people that said before 4 p.m. Get your phones ready.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I'm not listening to any of you.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Wrap it up.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, no, no, no, but what I heard part of what I heard was that there is a piece of LeBronan rich Paul that feel like the media is trying to force him into a farewell tour that he necessarily might not want.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: With this decision and everybody thinking that this is a farewell tour, there's no guarantee that that's really what it is either and that it traditionally, when you look at how LeBron operates, he usually gives a team, a year of a guarantee with a player option.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: So you would sign a two-year deal, it's really a one-year deal with the player option to come back for that final year.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: This would be a 24th year and then a next year would be 25th.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think LeBron would love that being able to say that he played a quarter century in the league and then you look at LeBron's history in his career and usually when he leaves a team and goes somewhere else, that first year they get close to a championship but they don't win it.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: It happened in the heat.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: His first year they got beat by the spurs, second year he won the championship.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: Happened here, first year.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: They want to win the championship, Kyrie and Kevin Love get hurt.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: They win it the second year with LeBron and Cleveland.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: In Los Angeles, it took them three years, but that first year they were screwing around before the Anthony Davis trade with Lanzo and Kuzma, the first year of LeBron and Davis together, they didn't win the championship, but in the bubble, they won it.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the second year together.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: So it is fascinating that, like, when you look at how it usually works for him in new markets, it usually takes two years to get that title.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: And you look at the teams that are at least remaining, like, all those teams are kind of
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: uh... covers i think it's a two-year deal it's a one year with a player option i agree with you where ever you go i i think that's like if it's cleveland if it's but i think that's like universal across like whatever it is the the lebron model um... yeah last thing kind of for you switch gears a little bit um
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Fontany of Sharon the show said, if LeBron after all of this doesn't choose Cleveland, that it'll hurt him more than the second time he left.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously nothing tops that first, nationally televised, the decision.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: One, do you guys agree with that?
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And two, do you think Cavs fans should have the right to feel slated by LeBron in the sense of they feel like the Cavs are being, or the fans are kind of being toyed with a little bit?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: I feel free to say no.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm not leaving away either.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really think so.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I think this goes more back on the front office of the cabs.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like they just stayed put for the past three seasons.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Their big move was Darious Garlin and Exchange for James Hardin.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we're supposed to look for too.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're not doing anything else outside of that.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: If they don't get LeBron,
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: and they just settle with the same roster that they have.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's where Cavs fans should take their anger to.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, you know, LeBron doing this, like, you're if I'm not going to tell fans how to feel, but if if him doing all of this, and then it's somewhere other than Cleveland, and you want to be annoyed at that sure, that's the word that I would use.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you could be annoyed, but to like, hold this again.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: against Slabron or to not appreciate 2016 the same way or really the four straight trips to the NBA finals that we had the same way because of this summer because of 17 days you know like say it comes out today like like he made the decision that he wasn't going to come back to the lakers on the 30th.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like we act like this has really been like a long painstaking process.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's been 17 days.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: We're back from out longer than this.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: Come on guys.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like they were right.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: We still have Jacoby Percent.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: Ask him for a paycheck.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: 100%.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: And we're worried about LeBron.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: like like what are Arizona cardinals that like are they like often arms about like jacoby berset watch I don't know maybe they are all right well you know we are obviously all in the edge of our seats and we're obviously not the only ones Nick you kind of alluded to this this headline a little bit is the fact that Adam Silver is now awaiting Lebron's decision because it affects obviously the scheduling quote we have to finish up the schedule and where Lebron plays affects the schedule it influence how we set the schedule opening week Christmas
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: If LeBron comes to the cabs, obviously nothing's going to compare to 2016.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: But if he was to come to the cabs and you've got you get this handful of nationally televised games, the Cavaliers are the talk of the NBA on every program could this be more special than that 2016 season?
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take the championships away, right?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because if they don't want to championship, then it doesn't compare.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: But people, I think so, Ryan, with that in mind, because that 2016 season, people will forget, like that was a pressure cooker, dude.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot of drama, like the whole fit in fit out, like that was a pain, talk about painstaking, and that this has only been going on for 17 days, like that was literally nine months.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_02]: of a different nut kick every day because somebody was unhappy or somebody put this cryptic thing on their Instagram story like every single day there was something new coming up and then the payoff was obviously Nirvana because they were able to win a championship in the most bizarre way humanly possible but like yeah I do wonder that like you know
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: There's gonna be like wherever he goes, but especially Cleveland, like there's gonna be a huge honeymoon stage with LeBron this year and I believe that it's gonna be in Cleveland.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I do think that there is a world with just the fanfare and the fact that we are near the end of his career and like could Kevin love come with him, could Brownie come with him, like
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: I do think like just from a fan perspective that, yeah, this year might end up being more fun with LeBron than even the championship years because there was so much pressure then and maybe LeBron in a weird roundabout way like alleviate some of that pressure that like Donovan and James Hardin and Nate Lee feel because they haven't been able to get it done.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you said when I kind of asked a question about like, are the antics too much when anybody else do this and you said, well, nobody's on LeBron's level and
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: And you're right, could, could LeBron coming back?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that has a chance to be even more special?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Then that 2016 season and do you think it would be more fun to watch LeBron play with Kyrie or excuse me?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: LeBron play with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden than it was 10 years ago with Kyrie, Kevin Love.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: Kyrie, Bruce, my favorite cap.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Kyrie was my guy.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I love watching Kyrie.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I love that team.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little in like a cab psychosis during those years.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to lie.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like my college dorm had Kyrie posters everywhere.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: LeBron posters everywhere.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to look like that now.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if he wins, obviously it's going to be maybe even better, you know, I don't even know why would say that.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: For all of LeBron, for like what he's done for this organization, he taught, he taught Cleveland how to handle a superstar.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: right now like there's teams and the pelicans right like and you know Matt Fontana had a funny clip he said got himself couldn't say that franchise and I think LeBron taught the calves a lot about what it takes to have that spotlight and if he comes to them and this part of his career like imagine that impact we talk about
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: the Cavs needing a leader and I just think of a guy like Evan Mobile who's still so young and hasn't reached that ceiling to have a guy like LeBron in his year every day at practice and on the court like that could not only do wonders for this team this year but his lasting impact for this next core of the Cavaliers.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: And he says that it doesn't matter like when you're talking about the legacy thing do to matters.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: It matters like think about how that will benefit LeBron's narrative.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: When he's retired and when it's all said and done, if you could somehow win a championship with James Hardin.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: who's been to the playoffs all 17 years of his 17 career career hasn't been able to get the job done I just absurd huge that be a huge feather in Lebron's cap hey I won that dude a ring you know don't have been Mitchell some of the same things even though Don's obviously significantly younger like in the first year second year this new contract I was able to get Donovan Mitchell a ring and prove that project worthwhile helps solidify Donovan status no offense gab is
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: The second greatest Cavalier, you know, behind Ron James and kind of replacing Kyrie Spot in that hierarchy because of the shot, like there are so much that rides on this decision, whereas if he picks a team other than the calves, it's, it is going to be hard on fate like I'm not selling myself on Jonathan Kominga.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: no way like that's a hortly it is a consolation price and he is a wing and that fills a position need and like that probably would make the calves a better basketball team than they are now, but that's a big drop off from the greatest player of all time that does elevate every player that he's ever played with.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just like like I'm saying like I think LeBron coming back the the intangible effects would go even further than just this year or even just two years whenever LeBron finally hangs up the shoes.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I think the smart choice for LeBron would be come back to Cleveland and I think the smart choice for you is to go to smart choice bats those were Cleveland headlines brought to you by smart choice bats is the perfect time to remodel your bathroom right now smart choice bats is giving you

- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: We got to take a break when we get back could another reunion that isn't being as talked about as much as Lebron be in the woodwork for Cleveland Gab Shaken or had no as well.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Three headlines that will define the Cleveland Guardian's second half season We'll talk about that when we get back right here on big play Cleveland.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Hi everybody welcome back to the big play Cleveland Show presented by Fandle right here on YouTube Ryan Tyler joined by Nick Padone as well as Gab Gaudy guys We're flipping gears.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: We're going over to the diamond the Cleveland Guardians second half is ready to begin against the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they're going to play.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a double-hider tomorrow because of this Canadian smoke smoke.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: So what's the rain tomorrow though?
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: Is it?
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: So that's now going to be what you got to figure out.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: Would you rather have this Canadian smoke in your lungs or would you rather risk the rain tomorrow?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: Probably the rain, right?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: Probably rain.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably rain.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yesterday guys though I did say I don't think you're going to be able to see the ball from the outfield and all the comments are like you you you're going to say that when they can't even breathe out there and like guys come on.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like yeah, no kidding.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: They can't breathe out there.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was just saying they can't see the ball.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh Well some people would say they can't see the ball even when the smoke's not there Let me let you look at their offensive metrics look guys three storylines that will define the Cleveland Guardian second half will start with the number one and really this is probably
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: the biggest one hinge in on well how far the guardians are going to go this postseason and that's can cleavones offence take the next step guys it'll be you can rely on awesome hedges to continue slugging the way he is you're going to need other people to step up and obviously to help when Jose and on how martina's get back and we'll talk about that in headline too but we'll stick with this one.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: Can Cleveland's offense?
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Take the next step.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Gab, I'll start with you.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously offense isn't the Guardian's strong suit.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: Really the last decade.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's been reliant on strong starting pitching and a great bullpen.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, starting pitching, you got that.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Check that off.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: Bullpen may be a little bit shaky this season.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Gab, just from an offensive standpoint, do you think we're headed towards the same limitations that this team has consistently
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: hit a wall with in the postseason when he faced teams like the Yankees when he faced maybe a potential team like the race who are slugging home runs even the white socks who hit these home runs are we going to be hitting the same low composes in time when the tickets there I don't want to bring the vibes down again today but probably I guess tell me how worried are you
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not worried as in the sense of like, oh, this team is going to be terrible.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just can the pitching again, carry them enough.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we say every single time is going to have to come down to that.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Without chase to a lot or over that last week, before we went to the break, what would our record be right now?
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Good point.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: because like at least he's stepping up and doing something we still haven't had Jose Ramirez back yet.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: But outside of Chase DeLater really Stephen Quan was kind of heating up a little bit at the end.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Those have been the only two Patrick Bailey.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome hedges.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Those are not the names that you want to hear when you're talking about the postseason.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, where do you two stand on Stephen Quan because it's certainly been an up and down year?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously the last couple weeks or so heading into all start break, he's picked it up.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's so tough to give up on a guy like Juan.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I understand, he doesn't hit home runs.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: I understand if he's not even hitting singles, gap to gap, it's just a defense who are lying on.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: But do you believe when we get to the post season, the second half is when we'll start to see the real Steven Juan, where are you?
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Are you out or are you still holding on hope for Steven Juan?
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: It was last two weeks, it'd been really good.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but, but is it wrong to say that I'm out?
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: No, is it wrong to say that it's not even though, even though I agree with Gavin, and she's right, that the last two weeks have been good.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think I've mentally cleared the Stephen Quann hurdle if that makes sense, because I'm watching this offense and it's so putrid.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I know a lot of people would say, well, what do you mean like if it's Quann can get back to hitting, you know, in the high 200s, 300s, you know, like as we're accustomed to, then that means the offense will
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: I've mentally cleared that hurdle though like I'm of the belief now like I need to find and I'll feel there that has a little bit more power and if that means trading quans to go fine one of those guys are trading quans to get prospects that then I could package to go get one of those guys maybe after the whole CBA thing is work through next year like okay then I have to make that decision I think now because quannas had this little downhill slide right I
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good on it dude like I like paying him what 20 million even a year now like I'm good on that and we know they're not gonna do it So I think I've like to use the Dolan's words like I've enjoyed clon and now like I'm at peace with whatever decision They decide to make I think I'm actually like disgustingly and on this Guardians team like to the point where A world series run wouldn't surprise me
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm not saying they're going to win it.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying they're going to make it, but how could you not say that their world series contenders?
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right now.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're leading the a central to tied with the white socks and you can't really say their a central merchants look around baseball this season, right?
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like they'll be the number one team in the L.S.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like what the ailed did win the horse or game.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: So let's very true.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: They've honestly greatest pitching performance.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I've been all started history.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, like,
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Guardian seems in the past as I've mentioned phenomenal starting pitching phenomenal bullpen and you make it work with what you have with the offense.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: You're sitting here and the offensive numbers are bad, but you're still winning games.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll get this in a second.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're getting back because of your marriage, you're getting back on home, aren't you?
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: But when have the Guardians really in this iteration of them, I guess, let's say the last five years, like when have they had so many hitters, young hitters, that you feel pretty good about, right?
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like Travis Pazana,
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Khalil Watson, you can throw in there.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: On how Martina's chased the water has looked like a completely different animal since he got off the I.L.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure there's some young Bryan Rokeo is still young and he's playing out of his mind.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how he was in an all-star.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I feel so good.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I know the starting pitching thing everybody talks about well they're the only team that has the same five that they started with this season.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure that won't be the case.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody really ends with that, but like,
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: I feel really good about where this team is headed and then we'll go into headline two is, what does this team look like when Jose Ramirez and on how Martinez get back?
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you were consistently winning games.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: You headed into all-star break.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: You swept a hot Marlins team who won six straight.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm at a really good place with this team guys.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: Now, my thing with Jose Ramirez is, yes, him returning to the lineup is gonna be good and beneficial for everybody else around him.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: But is he gonna step it up?
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: No signer to Jose Ramirez, but like going into that injury with runners in scoring position, not great guys and that's fair and I guess maybe that's an even like, I don't want to say.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: plus to the Guardians credit, but like the fact that they're still leading the Ale Central tied with the white socks without Jose Ramirez and on how Martinez and if Jose is anything you give in the credit he's a back half player he's like a back nine bully if playing golf like he turns it up when the moment means the most and then on hell was playing out of his mind he's been tremendous like still the I think he still leads the team in home run and he isn't played I'm the chase a lot of men have bumped it up.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think Chase just took it over, I'd love to tear he's been on, but like that's the whole point like you're getting in.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is the Chris Antonetti special.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: I know fans don't want to hear it is it's basically like getting a trade, right?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like getting Jose back and on how Martinez is like making a huge blow.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're going to say that they're definitely going to say that and you guys know that they're not going to be making any moves with the lockout looming.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: But here's the thing, like I'm with Ryan, I'm like, I'm like teetering on the, like, plank of a green with you that this team can be a world series can tend to ride you they can, but but you can't be dead last dead less 30 of there's only 30 teams in your 30 if in slugging.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: It can't happen because when you go against the big teams in the postseason, we know what happens.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like we lived this movie a couple of years ago in the playoffs.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: We thought that we were destined for that world series run.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_02]: The pitching was awesome.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: The bullpen was there.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: It felt like we finally had enough offense and then you see what the Yankees could do when they start hitting those home runs and it's like shit, we don't have enough.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, every world series team needs a lot to go right.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's every single sports.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: When a championship you need a lot of things to go right and you need health to be on your side.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's no secret, but I just feel like with this team,
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: If Kwan can get back on track, if when Hosanna on help get back, their mash and home runs consistently, bring it in runs.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: Chase the lotter keeps it up, Ryan Rokio's phenomenal bullsights, offense and defense, and let's say Gabriel Arias can stop being the carouselvert of us.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's right.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like now you're starting to win now you're starting to wish and dream might you like Gabriel Arius is not a major league baseball, but what am I getting out of Kyle made his heart out of what am I getting out of Reese Husband this guys can't swim a thing with the past teams is like I don't know that they even ever had the option of having all those things go right true Like with this team that we could be an accidental home run.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like yeah Like Arius gonna do a 500 foot accidental home run
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: what we have and then it comes down to well obviously the starting pitching like this starting pitching group is absolutely phenomenal.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: Gavin Williams, Parker Massick, and Joey Cantillo as of late have all been absolutely phenomenal.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have guys like slayed who are hanging up like to have slayed as your fourth fifth best olives you say fourth because I'm not very high on Tanner by be like and then even Tanner by be like
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: No starting rotation is that deep.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: But here's the issue with the bullpen is not as strong as a blade.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: And Gavin goes to your point.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be hard to make deals at this deadline because of the impending lockout.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: And also because the fact that there are so many teams, like 22 teams within six games of a playoff spot.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I guess that's kind of where the limitations come.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's really not a good bullpen right now.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think people do need to, yeah, people do need to kind of temper their expectations at the deadline because of that.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: But again, that's all team.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: I also think too like with deadlines as a whole like it's usually easier to find a bullpen arm that's like serviceable than like you know everybody's like jonesing and myself included I'm guilty of this of like a big right-handed bat like okay those guys are generally not getting moved at the deadline because they're usually on teams that are pretty good.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: Those teams usually want to keep guys like that so those are usually a little bit harder to come by but like I would
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: These are small incremental improvements that if they make deadline deals, the type of deals that we've been accustomed to them making, that are smaller and more on the fringes.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: I do at least want to see them try something like that, versus just stand pat because of your point, there are no elite teams in this American league, so if you get in there, anything can happen, why not try to improve your bullpen if you're a little bit suspect about it or try to improve some of the last bats in the roster if you're not sure about
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: Reese Hoskins is falling off like you know trying to improve some of those positions if you can why not try and you know Baseball is so funny because of how long the season is all it takes for everybody to get really bought in In these next couple months is guardians rattle off eight of ten guardians rattle off 12 of 15 guardians rattle off 17 of 22 like you put back like three four series wins back to back to back to back back People are going to be so bought in with Jose and on how back in this lineup
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you're welcome.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: I asked you guys about um, a player that we haven't brought up yet.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: How much longer do they have David Fry on the roster to see make it till next season?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't know if there's going to be a place for him.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're and if you're not hitting.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not great that you're a super utility guy and you can't get it.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can't play for me.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: You have like five players that are de-aged, catcher, put them anywhere that aren't really hitting.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm going to ask you guys next because we talked about the starting pitching.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the Guardians usually goes far as they're starting rotation.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: Takes them.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned, the only team and I will be the season to have the same starting five opening day all the way through all start break.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: Knock on wood, please.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: rank them one through five straight up rank the scarty and starting rotation one through five gab i'm starting with you i'm gonna go gavin Williams one park remesic to joe cantillot three tanner bybe's late neck i think that's the order i think it is too i i think that's the order i think i'm too hard on tanner bybe well you're a lot of me don't trust him i i i i just don't trust tanner bybe in a playoff game what can i say what don't cares me what scares me is that they do trust them
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: And because they paid them and that, you know, like in a safe safe, they almost had they have to trust in a best of five series he's getting one of those three starts.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like yeah, and that's kind of like.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: Why, because of the body, like, I mean, yeah, I think this is the same reason why I'm going to read this talk about the Sean Austin in five days.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're being serious, like, you're starting three, it should be Gavin Parker at this point.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be Bobby.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Joey, can't tell.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree with you, there is a good chance that it's Gavin Parker Tanner.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: or even they put tanner second because that's also i mean we are saying that like that's you know my stake is too in my stake is too buttery my pillows are too soft like that is a good problem like there are teams out there that would kill that have somebody like tanner by me it's just we know because we watch this team day in and day out that he has an affinity for leaving one right over the plate and guys have an affinity for taking them deep.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Gab, where do you stand on Gabriel Areis?
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know, I had, I had this thought, and I got vehemently blasted for it.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: Go figure.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: What was your thought?
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: When you get to the postseason, having a guy like Gabriel Areis, who, let's call for what it is.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: It is a strong institute on the Scardians team.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, he talked to anybody, like, he's got, but my thing is, yeah, right.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: But my thing is, like, where does he fit in?
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I had, and I had this thought.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: And people don't want to move Rokio to second.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Get it.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: I would say, Ari is such a short stop, but then what do you do with Bizana?
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: You'd put that first base even.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's, yeah, like, Ari is your time out?
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's played the first base in a playoff game.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and people, like, all ready.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'll set out was crazy for that.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: That, that he would be on the roster.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: That, that, that, I want him in the lineup every day.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, I 100% what is well, like if someone's going to accidentally hit a home run, he has the best chance to do so.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm saying that complimentary, like I'm sorry, that sounds like really group saying that.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: But out of the players that you have on the roster right now, he has more tools in anyone else if he wants to use them.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: So hit or you're playing him or you're playing him over, right?
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they say he has the most tools, right?
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: They have the most you'll ever.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's just.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's the problem, Nick.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's like overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, overroke, over
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't care who the hell I don't care who the hell place first.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care if you're a super good at defense like agreed Like and then it's like the log jam at first base is a mass comment.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's art.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, no, no, I'm a good I mean, I don't care who the hell I don't care who the hell place first.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care if you're a super good at defense like agreed like and then it's like the log jam at first base is a mass comment.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's art.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: And your other only other options are David for hi, Hoskins and man, so like it's it's not great.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: So you're not the age.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, absolutely good.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is that when you though, I wonder if if at that point, if we're, you know, living and pie in the sky impossible to predict months down the road from now, is that when you may be trying to see on hell, how now?
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for as another in-fielder, like they trusted the water with that last year to debut.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was for wealthy out there, too, then.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: But like again, Nick, back to stake two buttery pillows too soft.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: You still got young guys that have a potential to make their major league debut this year.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: We have guys that even like Cleo Watson, who does he have a spot on this team with a healthy Martinez and the water in the outfield was even caught on a left field.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I suppose it's a good problem to have.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: Um, all right, Gab, you're going to have to talk me out of this one because I'm getting very excited.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about it.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're a union in Clare.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm already out.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know you are.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let me explain to the great people, please.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: You are going to shoot me down, but I want to talk about it.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: Because it has been a topic of conversation, a different reunion.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not LeBron James, what Francisco Lindor, met's reportedly didn't list him as an untouchable, still unlikely to deal Lindor.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: Are you out of it because of a financial sense or from a talent fit sense?
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think talent and fit.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think Rokio is a better player than Lindor right now, by every metric.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: Francesco Lindor, it hasn't been doing anything.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm out on that.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: Also, I don't know if he's going to fit like a vibe wise.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: Mr.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: Smile, come on.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: He can fit anywhere.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: I just didn't seem like it's working out like that.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there is, there is a thing.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's always like, are the grass?
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Is the grass always greener on the other side?
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: would he not kind of make this team like?
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm already talking world series contender with that kind of what do you not kind of kind of be like miss missing a missing piece as like if they were able to make that story about the odds would move I am about it.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: I am because I do I'm with you Ryan.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a move that would move the odds That's a move that would blow people socks off, but I will say this like that feels like so far off Like it honestly feels more likely that you could get somebody like a trout
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, or like a couple of years ago before Harper got traded like it felt like that was more of a reality than Lendor just because of the history because he like when he left to gaps point like with vibes and Mr. Spile not really playing that well in New York like
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: when he left he kinda said some not so savory things about Cleveland and we know that sticks with fans here but we also know that Jose Ramirez is a guy that was you know on there how how would Jose feel about this if you know Jose kind of runs that club house even though he doesn't say a whole lot like he's the unquestion leader of that thing like is that something he'd be up for with some of the stuff that we heard about how Frankie handled the world's series
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: some of that kind of stuff.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: It feels really far out.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: I know there are a lot of people that are trying to make it feel like more of a reality because ever since Lindor has left, we've been searching for a short stop like their problem still persists, but I just don't think that it's really that realistic.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: Even though if it did happen like yeah, I'd be I'd be for it sure.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not out on, I'm not saying like I would dislike Francisco Lendor on the Cleveland Guardians.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that would be really cool and awesome, but I just don't think it's a possibility.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I also don't think anybody is going to try to trade for him.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to stay with the Mets.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because like, what's that package even look like?
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: If we're, I don't even, I don't know the answer to that by the way, but like if we're trying to even get realistic about it, like to get the Mets to move Lendor, like that's going to take another, it's going to take another kick's bounty, like what the Mets had to give us to get them the first time.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't seem like anyone on that roster really enjoys him either.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: You see it here all the time.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's weird.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's weird.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't it?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: Because it felt like it was the obvious.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: You had kind of felt like a meter here again.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and we're talking about the Bronn, like the different markets, man.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's so different in Newark.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: Does he want to leave New York?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody is obsessed with the year 2016.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, the Bronn came home, and Francesco came back to New York.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be that would be crazy.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: Last thing here, Gabby.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: That means Josh McCown.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, I mean, that probably is the best option.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, honestly, we're not far off of that.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Last thing, before we let you go, Gap, and Nick, you too.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Clevver Guardians are confidence level.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: They win a third straight Ale Center title, and who's more likely to catch them?
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: The White Sox or the Twins?
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then also, do you believe the Tigers could make a second-half push similar to the Guardians last year?
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think the tigers are good.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think the tigers are a good baseball team.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I'm saying this a vibe thing that's not really statistical metric to say, but the vibes are off in Detroit to start the season.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I feel like they reel it in.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: They got it together, and they're playing really good baseball.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: They said they're not training school.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think that might be one of the most ridiculous things that they could do.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: But it seems like they're going for it.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: How many games are they back right now?
- 46:29[SPEAKER_01]: I believe six and a half.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Six and a half is quite a lot, but they could do it.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: This is again, week AL, and we know how the AL sends rice.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so who's more likely to catch?
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's something to put it this way.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you more worried about catching the guardians?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I say catching, but I guess winning the AL central because the guard, or the white socks, or the right there, the white socks or the twins.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would say the white socks.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: The white socks.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, white socks.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't buy into the twins at all.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, yeah, I think the, how about this?
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think the tigers are better than the twins.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_02]: When it's all said and done, I think it's perfect.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, maybe Detroit, and Chicago could even be in her switch, and then Minnesota and Casey at the bottom.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: Fair enough.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Gab, we appreciate your time and joy.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: You dox yourself.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: You're time and Denver.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have to do it.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: You did it.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we appreciate you coming on and have a wonderful day, Gab.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see you guys.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: We got to take a break.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: We get back.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: Me and Nick are not done yet.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk about the Cleveland Browns training camp just around the corner.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell is going to be quarterback one?
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: Nick, I'm going to ask you that question when we get back right here.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm big play Cleveland.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, everybody.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back into the Big Play Cleveland show right here on YouTube presented by Fando or flipping gears.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: Go into the football field Browns training camp.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Not going to math.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: It starts July 23rd.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: Nick, you're going to have to tell me how many days is that?
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: Three plus three.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's a grand six days until the rookie's reports of Maria to be getting Cleveland Browns training camp.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's just getting started, but the world cup is getting ready to wrap up and there's no place better to bet on it.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: Then with our great friends, over at Fandel on the biggest stage in the world, Fandel continues to change the game because sometimes your player gets subbed off and your bet goes with them not anymore with Fandel's super sub.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: If your player is subbed out, your bet stays in.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: If your player leaves the match, your bet continues on with the substitute.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: So you're still in it until the final whistle because matches like these anything can happen and now your bet can go to the distance.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: Let there be goals this summer on fandal visit fandal.com slash big play to get started now.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: 21 plus present in select states for Kansas and affiliation with Kansas star casino 18 plus DC can tuck here Wyoming.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: gambling problem call 1-800 gambler or 1-800 my reset Nick it is kind of crazy that we are already just six days away from Cleveland Brown's training camp I said rookies report the 23rd believe it is the 28th five days later Nick when the veterans report to training camp Todd Monkins first won and the grand question of it all is who is going to be under center week one for the Cleveland Browns It's going to be to Sean Watson or Shador Sanders Nick which way you lean and let me put it this way Which way do you think the Browns are leaning and if it was you which way would you lean?
- 48:52[SPEAKER_02]: It is, it's nice that they're gonna get these guys back on the field, Ryan, because it was, you know, interesting to watch them throughout OTAs and throughout mandatory veteran, mini camp.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually want to take you guys back in February.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: When Browns had coach Todd Monk in said at the combine that in a dream world, he would like to have his starting quarterback named already going into training camp.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: Monk and would of like to have his quarterback identified.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: but following the conclusion of that veteran many camp in June.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: Mungkin wasn't ready to make the call saying that he had seen enough out of Watson and Sanders to keep this competition alive.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: So for another training camp, the Browns are buckled up for a QB competition.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_02]: And in Brea, it's the Humpheteen quarterback competition predates
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: time itself almost where it feels like we've had browns cubies competing against one another and and it's yet to bear fruit in Cleveland and I think that's what's disappointing about this going into another training camp where you don't have an answer at quarterback well that kind of could be your answer at quarterback is that you don't have one and that you got to get through the 17 games we got to get to Indy Ryan I want you to come with me this
- 50:11[SPEAKER_02]: Because you have to find an answer for the most important position in sports, and that's the quarterback position.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to be watching at the closest in training camp, but there is a piece of me that's less excited if that makes sense about this competition just because
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen countless quarterback competitions and it's never resulted in anything so like somebody is gonna win this Somebody's gonna lose this.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: They're not gonna have two QBs go into the season as both the starter That's not possible.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like I feel like as this gets closer to starting I actually find myself carrying less and less about it Where maybe if you would have told me that months ago I would have been surprised I wouldn't what do mean I don't really care about but I just don't
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think, and you're right, I mean, a big reason of that is that it's kind of overshadows the main theme of this team is that it's rebuilding, yep, it's gotten younger and the culture is going to change and that's up to Todd Munkin and it's to be seen whether it's for the better for the worse and it it's thinks because I'm not saying the Browns are just a quarterback way there's no way that's true.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe next year we're saying that when they look to the 2020
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's I guess I don't want to say frustrating well, maybe I would it's frustrating not having that answer and I guess it's more frustrating that we're sitting here because I know you're in the same camp of me as Why continue to waste time when at the very minimum there's potential for a future wish it or and I think that is the biggest
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: mind obstacle that a lot of us fans and certainly Shidorah's mafia kind of have in this situation.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, because it definitely feels like this is an organization kind on the rise and that feels crazy to say because this offseason you lost the greatest defense of player this generation when you traded away miles Garrett.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: You've got a completely unknown and unproven coaching staff and
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: I know right now we're all in on munkin' let's see how we feel about munkin' in week four you know because we've seen that movie play out you know the coordinators we don't know these guys have never been coordinators before so there is so much uncertainty but at the same time you see what Andrew Barry's done in these last two draft classes and you're allowed to be excited because while I like Quint Shot Shotkins I like what I saw last year Harold Fan and Jr was a stud I'm excited to see how many
- 52:40[SPEAKER_02]: Touchdowns he grabs this year and maybe on my fantasy team like you know the young receiving duo That's gonna be rookie's this year.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: We can sepsiode embossed and like if you want to be excited about the young talent on this Browns roster Be excited about the young talent on this Browns roster.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: I just come into this season right I want to see the offense take steps forward and it's like we'll be most important piece of that offense is the quarterback We don't know who it's gonna be and that's what makes the rest of this really tricky
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: I will tell you though, and to our fans out there too.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_02]: The more removed I am from it, I thought should door came on strong in that mandatory veteran mini camp.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: We documented it every day, here on the Big Play Cleveland show on Big Play Cleveland YouTube channel, but I wonder if it should door surprise Todd in a way and we heard all those reports from Mary Kay and others the beginning of the off season that Watson had the inside edge, Monk and himself said that he wanted to name a QB.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: Did Shador make the Browns because of his consistent development throughout the mandatory off season?
- 53:49[SPEAKER_02]: Did he make the Browns think harder about this decision than what they wanted to?
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they wanted to just name the starter, let it be to Sean, we owe him the money.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Shador's making them think, huh?
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this kid could maybe really be something we saw flashes of it in the seven games that he started last year.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously through three more interceptions that he did touchdowns took a lot of sacks.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_02]: There were still questions coming into this offseason, but maybe because of his play in OTAs and many camp.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, uh, maybe we got to think about this thing a little bit harder because he did come on strong.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_02]: I was standing out there watching it.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I've literally said that ever since Todd Munkin said he's not naming a starter in his waiting till training camp.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was my whole argument was my thought process on at least was this was Todd Munkin.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: Finally gets his first head coach gig.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's watched from a side.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's been in the AFC North.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: He obviously is familiar with the Sean Watson struggles but he didn't live at first hand here.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he went into training or went into the mandatory mini camp throughout the OTA's process and was like, the Sean's the veteran.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they owe him money.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure if Todd is really thinking about that.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: He probably maybe gives me the best chance to win and then you actually get to win.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're not maybe necessarily put on the pads, but they're certainly showing their skill and then Todd's like, oh man, I don't see this in my own eyes.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he's just shunned really as his bad as everybody has been saying.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, well, we'll shoot.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: I got a win this year because that's what we'll be talking about.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: Todd Monkey didn't get hired to come in here and lose games.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to actively take, right?
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: So they expect Todd to win games and he kinda looks at it like,
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, maybe Shador gives me the best chance, but I don't need to announce this right away.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: Let's kind of ease into training camp and if that is still the same if the Sean still isn't running away with this, and Shador continues to improve every single day.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_01]: How could you not start Shador?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: And there is a point, like, uh, uh,
- 55:32[SPEAKER_01]: I want should order to start.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think he's a browns future?
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: I could be proven wrong.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you soft flashes last year.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: If he continues to watch film, continues to learn from people and continue to better Redefenses has a better offensive line with him, has better playmakers.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: just go out and see if it magically gets put together.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then if it does, what everybody says, congratulations, well done, you just hit a lottery.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's where I'm at too.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's where I've been at.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: Really, since this whole thing started, I can't fathom putting Dishon Watson back on the field and a brown jersey.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm real quick, because people keep telling me like, I'm sending you a Matt or Bruce with all of these hosts.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_01]: And they keep telling me, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: that the offense is better wish it or something.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_01]: What was your door in?
- 56:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what is your coach's 24?
- 56:41[SPEAKER_02]: So six years ago, he would have been, he's in high school.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, should door would have been.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think he said to Sean.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, should door, should door would have been a high school.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: He, he probably even has drivers license.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_02]: Win to Sean led the league in passing.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like guys, that's a life time in the NFL, and maybe we're wrong.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Watson finds it.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_02]: I will give him credit.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_02]: He had some highlight throws in those mini camps.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: He did, I posted them.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_02]: The one, the ball, a couple balls, the Denzel boss, and that were awesome.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: Concepts, he owned, had a sweet catch on the sideline that I remember.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like there were flashes that made you wonder, like, oh, it's to Sean back.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_02]: But then I told you guys this on Monday.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: There were also times where he would throw passes that were so wildly inaccurate.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_02]: that there were people on the sidelines, not media, not, you know, like the invites that they had, like, there were like team staffers that were looking at each other, like with the thought of, did he really throw that football directly into the ground?
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: Did he really throw that football so high?
- 57:40[SPEAKER_02]: That Jerry Judy wouldn't have been able to catch it if he was yowlings high, like they like the
- 57:45[SPEAKER_02]: that so far, what I've seen from both of these quarterbacks, should you or has consistently shown flashes?
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, if it has had some inconsistencies and sacks and holding on to the ball for a long time, and just Sean's been the quarterback that he's been since he's arrived in Cleveland.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: There have been moments that have made you say, ah, maybe it is just rust, but then the overall has been just way too inconsistent.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_02]: So if that's the truth,
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: Once you put stock in the younger player, once you put stock in the player that did throw a couple touchdowns for you that did show at least a little bit of a sign of life under Kevin's defense.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's anemic offense.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_02]: Should or the last two seasons was the best part back that we had.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and I know, but like maybe that's a low bar, but he was clearing it and some of those starts like miles Garrett said that, you know, against the after that Raiders game, when they when he said that there's not many quarterbacks in the league, they can make that the bro.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: My Twitter header is still miles Garrett's face.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: When it's jaw drop during that Raiders throw like that, it's still my Twitter header.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: And what made Deshawn Watson so great as a quarterback, it was his dual thread ability.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: We sure he still has that no no two Achilles tears 30 plus and who's to say that that's not in the back of his mind every time He tries to run with the football is if I take a hit and I get injured boy my career might be completely right over it's not in the back of his mind It's in the front of his mind
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: He said it out loud.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_02]: He said that he's not trying to get back to the QB that led the League and passing in 2020.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_02]: He just wants to find a way to play all 17 games plus.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_02]: We'll all save a T-game plus if that's what's on in the front of your mind.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's in the back of his mind that if I go out here and get hurt again, it's it for me.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: I thought part of what made the Shador run at the end of last season so fun was you saw flashes of what Watson was supposed to be this tremendous talent that can do things out of structure.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it takes to be in a leaked QB in the league right now, got like when you watch Caleb Williams play.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_02]: Go google when you're done watch a big play cleave alive Caleb Williams completion percentage in a great He slings it around the yard, but guess what he's the way he does find receiver 30 yards On the field it plays a lot better than the boringness of dinking and dunking with somebody whose arm could be shot with somebody whose legs could be shot and again That's not a shit
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: that's not a slight towards the Sean Watson.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the facts.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_02]: He hasn't been a good cube since he arrived in Cleveland.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_02]: We have somebody that did show a speckle of promise.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_02]: Why not put more energy into that player?
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how this plays out Ryan in terms of the quarterback competition because they haven't both been in Brio with the media there and stuff since we were at many camp.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really unfair to say that much has changed since then, but I did really think
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_02]: I felt like the calculus changed also with how they were divvying up who was with the ones who was with the twos after that Miles Gerritrade, where maybe they realized hey, we've got a young roster Gerrit versus in his 20s You know, we got a bunch of 20-year-olds not a bunch of 30-year-olds that plays the Shodore strength Let's see what this kid could do in training camp and and for that maybe you've talked me into being a little bit more excited than what what I was five minutes ago and and if if to Sean Watson isn't running away with this battle
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_01]: then I think you have to go should or, and maybe this could be a blessing in disguise for the first should or Sanders and first should or fans is, and maybe this is how the Browns are feeling this, is you start to shine Watson, and maybe he proves me wrong.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: I doubt it.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_01]: But let's say he goes out there and he stinks, which I expect to happen.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then you put in Shador Sanders week three, week four, week five, and then maybe it's a little less pressure on Shador knowing to Sean Watson is behind it, because you're not going back to the Sean Watson after you put them out there and if he stinks.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe in a strange calculated way, that could help Shador Sanders this season your thoughts.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will say this.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm growing and maturing a little bit like in my career, but also as a Browns fan and also just like as somebody that's been tortured watching all of these quarterback things because like
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_02]: When they started priming us with the fact that Watson could be the starter in all of this, I was ready to freak out, I was ready to lose my mind, I was ready to yell and scream, how could you do that, how could you put them on the field, I'm not watching, you know, I would do that whole Shrade.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: I've called him down a lot because I think I've come to the reality that even if they name him the week one starter,
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm probably getting Shador at some point.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well, even if they name lots of the week one starter, are we game if we're both betting men?
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_02]: Would you bet your harder money that plots and could play a full 17 games?
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_02]: It will, like, from a sheer physical standpoint, that's...
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_02]: escaping the fact that he might just be so bad when they put him out there that they say, hey, there's nothing left.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_02]: We've tried it with a completely new coaching staff.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_02]: We tried it with a completely new offense.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_02]: We gave him two young stud receivers, a young stud tight end in Harold Fanon, young running back, re-tooled offensive line, it ain't it.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_02]: We're moving on to Shidorah.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: I do think if Watson's the starter, it's a shorter leash than people think.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: And five or six weeks.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_01]: What they gave Flackle last year?
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it has to be, right?
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then you get shit or in week six, there's a chance that the season might not be dead.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know it's a difficult start to the season anyway.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, you know, it's a gauntlet to start anyway.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_01]: And this might be the ultimate hammer of this whole argument, Nick.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_01]: And people have brought this up.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't some original thought I've had, but like,
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_01]: What is it matter if the Sean wants and plays well?
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_01]: Because, one, I mean, let's call Spade a spade.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to the AFC championship.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_01]: Because maybe that's what I would say is like, oh my god, maybe you actually have to even just minisculely consider resigning to Sean wants it.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's not gonna happen.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: So what are we doing?
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not ever going to consider this guy your future,
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_02]: Why just that I guess like because I guess you can make the argument like breath like it's all about winning games right away with Todd monkey right so Like because hear me out like I think this is maybe their logic on it because if they name him the starter They want him to start whoever starts whether it's your door to Sean you name somebody the starter You want that player to start all 17 games because that means you one week one that means
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_02]: things went well for you two and you never had to make a difficult decision about making a change.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I think what they would want to happen with Dishon is that he's a starting quarterback and that he plays all 17 games.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is still a young roster though and it is Dishon Watson, post all of these injuries like even if he finds a way to play all 17 which neither you are me think is going to happen.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's going to be good enough to win nine games.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: So like, and then you're not good enough to win the division, you're maybe in that wild card conversation, then it then it's Sam Darnold and you'd be able to say you know what we gave this guy five years 230 million.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna wipe our hands of it.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_02]: We appreciate what he did for us this year.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_02]: One seven or eight games started the monk and arrow off strong.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're building towards a culture and then you look towards April's draft and unfortunately should for Shador and Dylan Gabriel it means that you probably never truly get that full opportunity, but
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that that's probably their thinking that like if you could have him be what Sam Donald was for the Vikings, you're cool with him going somewhere else because you probably know that it the injuries alone like this is a data driven organization that's the other piece in this like they love data math and you know data points like there's never been a player that has had this much time off with these injuries that's been able to come back
- 1:05:33[SPEAKER_02]: they're not dumb guys like it might seem like they are but they're not like they know it's not going to catch them by surprise if Dishon Watson's not an elite QV this year they're they're not going to be both fuddled by that like it's it's well within the realm of possibilities they are prepared for that outcome I assure you all right last thing Nick are you buying and this is another thing that they were feeding me that I immediately just I'm not I'm not hungry man that Dishon Watson oh well now he's he's really healthy
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_01]: Are we for real like they're actually people that are saying oh well now he's healthy He wasn't he hasn't been healthy obviously hasn't been healthy, but you're expecting me Oh now he's 100% healthy.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's he was I'm just not buying that he was 100% healthy in 2024 It's like and people I said he's at a very opportunity to prove it here with Cleveland Yes, he's obviously gotten injured and people were calling me crazy I'm like I just had plenty of opportunities to look like a good quarterback and he's quite frankly Looked like the worst starting quarter 2024.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_02]: We did that whole off season that he was he was finally healthy You're not hungry like me.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: No, not hungry
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_02]: You was finally healthy if we could get back to the second half against the Ravens remember that we did that for a whole summer All right, we did that we did that for a whole summer already, so I'm not gonna do that for another summer if anything I'll give you it's the first time that he's fully healthy with the head coach that is in Kevin's defense ski I'll give you that I'll entertain that, but I also don't think that overcomes, you know
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_02]: year off voluntarily with the Texans missing 11 games because of the suspension missing Over half of a season because of the broken shoulder missing over half of a season because of the ruptured Achilles then a full-nother season off preparing twice ruptured Achilles like I don't think the variables of finally being healthy with the new head coach like it's just a lot of injuries Any athlete any sport if this could be bowling
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_02]: I want to expect a bowler to be able to come back from two tournament killies in a shoulder injury when he took that much time off the lanes, dark throwing, same thing, if somebody tore their Achilles twice and broke their shoulder and then took two years off of throwing darts, I wouldn't expect them to be able to hit the bull's eye.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it goes across sports, I think it's a lot of time up.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's unfortunate for Dishon.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's done very little to repair that image for how people view him.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I can't really feel too tremendously bad about it.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why I want to see Shodora start.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the path to having the most fun this season.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that's also the lottery ticket of all lottery tickets that if you hit that man you're in the Jeremiah Smith, you're drafting the top corner.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're drafting the corner from Notre Dame next year.
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_01]: or you could just go immediately and draft, uh, Dylan Stewart, uh, yeah, yeah, you're off to the races like, uh, it's a loaded draft class in more ways than quarterback next year.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably a far cry, but Nick, I completely agree with you on everything.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_01]: This was fun.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got to head out and appreciate everybody tune in to Big Play Cleveland.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_01]: We are alive Monday through Friday noon to 130ish.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate it.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you would subscribe, uh, mean a lot comment like all that good stuff.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Ryan Tyler.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's Nick Padone.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back Monday, full crew, Nick, gap crews, Chris McNeil, the top dog hand for Dickson as well as Jensen Lewis.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want to get his thoughts on a Frankie Lindor.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he doesn't like that.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: Francisco Lindor reunion back here in Cleveland.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: Again, we appreciate it and have a wonderful
