- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: The sooner's on SI podcast as we get ready to take the show on the road For the first time in 2025 right chaplain here hanging out in more poor usual.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: We got the great John Hoover up in the night one eight night one eight who how you doing?
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: Do a great screen got a little different configuration today, but we'll figure that out.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll figure that out.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on YouTube, we already know.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on the audio version, we'll get to it in a second.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, back in Norman Carson and I will be the road crew headed to Philly.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I am all checked in for my flight, Carcester, coming in and a day later, everything good I hope.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: No delays, nothing here on Wednesday.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it should be pretty smooth, I think, could decently long lay over between my flights on Friday, so it should be good, it should make all my connections.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Still catching up on a bit of sleep, but we don't sleep until January.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Amen, amen there.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Just make sure everything stays on track, because you got to land, Uber to the hotel, drop the crap off, make the dinner reservations on Friday.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: We'll make that thing happen.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on YouTube, you know that there's another face, popped up here.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you listen to the post game pod, you may know who we're about to introduce.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: It is the great Ryan Avery here, helping us out.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: through the football season.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're very, very thankful for that Ryan.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: We finally got all the Ryan's on one team, which either means that this is going to go really, really well, or the laptop's going to explode in like 30 minutes.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll figure it out.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: But thank you all for having me excited to be here and looking forward to having the the Ryan's on the same side.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't know apron, then I don't know how you found this podcast.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: You must like hate watch OU content.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: and not take it in, but Abraham did a, just a solid 19 year stint at the Oklahoma.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: He recently became someone that just is gonna bounce around helping help out.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: And less, of course, you're talking about being on the ESPN ABC broadcast in the middle of Oklahoma and Michigan as as I understand it, Abraham, the middle of the crowded sports bar and a video that may or may not have come from my phone with you talking to the on birx is just in the middle
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was a little bit odd.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: First OU home game, I wasn't at since 2010, I believe.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, sitting in industry in more with a couple of buddies, including Jason Kersey, who most of y'all know.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: And my face pops up.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, asking Dion a couple of questions about Michigan, which I figured might be a good time to ask him after the Illinois State Game, since I wasn't sure if we'd be able to talk to him again before the Michigan Game.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: And it worked out pretty well for him.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: a little bit weird for me, but, uh, but yeah, we don't get, uh, I hope our listeners and our viewers have an, have an appreciation for what they're experiencing right now.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: The one and only Ryan Avers is on our podcast and on the, sooners on SI team.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: So welcome, dude.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_03]: We're super glad to have you.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm, I'm thrilled to be here, who, and, uh, you know, we've talked about it, but,
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you've been great to me for a long time, even when I was really young, working on the Arkansas beat, I remember running into you in Tulsa, believe it, Arkansas, oh, are you baseball game with the scorebook, but yeah, it's been fantastic, you know, working next to you for so long, but you know, thrilled to be on the same team for once.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: Did you buy one of my scorebooks?
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I did not.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: Because I was very particular.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: I was very particular about the kind of scorebook that I used, which was one of the big academy ones that gave me a point in your room to write.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciated yours.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: But our business is one with a lot of quirky people.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: people that are very particular about things and I was really particular about my scorebooks.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, I stuck with my big old academy one.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: But it gave me a plenty of room to write, you know, interesting notes about plays or things like that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, mine was geared more toward the college game specifically because you could run out nine college pictures and I had space for each one of them.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_03]: And I had space for like 15 innings, which if you go beyond 15 innings, your stage in some kind of epic record setting bull crap game that nobody's going to care about.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: So I had a cut off for both, nine pictures and 15 innings.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's on you.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and if you did more than that, it's worth two sheets in the scorebook, right?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Move on to the next page.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now if here's the thing, who if you missed what if you were doing the day-to-day, oh, you softball the last four or five years that Abraham I were doing, the new thing would not be 15 innings.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: It would be in one inning giving you space to allow open the bat through without
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Crouching over into the other one because then you have the rest of the game because changed where they bat through once they were going to screw it up again a second time by being so excellent.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: So that would have been the new attempt.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, I'll even know if you've been around long enough on road trips to understand the lore of who's having his own scorebooks that he produced and passed around.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot of odds and ends.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: there's on a side podcast.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: I just hope that Abraham writes a story better than he hangs a TV because you guys can't see it on the other side of the slap top.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: Abraham, when I moved into this apartment, was here for a while.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: We were trying to find a stud to put the TV on the wall and it just didn't exist.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: So now it's on the stand.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of the logistags that's done.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was uh, and that is not because Abraham doesn't know what he's doing.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually just because uh, this what happens when you're in apartments that uh, get built really, really quick.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive in um, who of course an and I were all on the post game pod.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: So if there are any other thoughts from a rewatcher stuff like that, we'll get to that here in a second.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to totally relive the Michigan game, but Ryan has someone who has done all the offseason content, all the
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: What you think of Oklahoma's performance gets Michigan.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I know you've not gotten to podcasts about this, but it was a massive massive day.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: It may not be the biggest win of Brett Venibals coaching career.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: If you talk about maybe the 2023 Texas game, but if this season turns into something special, I think that we might turn and as who've in Carson, I kind of asked the question that do we think this was the turning point for Brett Venibals at Oklahoma?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I certainly think it's got a chance to be.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Now, they've got to do what they need to do in the SEC.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: We still don't really know what Michigan is, Michigan could be really good, or they could struggle, especially with a freshman quarterback.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: But for what OU needed right now, I thought a lot of positive signs, John material in the running game, obviously will dive into that a little bit more.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: The offense of line I thought looked a whole lot better and a big part of that Michael Fassousey making his first collegiate start first collegiate appearance But really everything around him to perform so much better
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: the continued evolution of the wide receiver group.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: As we've seen the rotation there, I think be a lot narrower than maybe we thought and we'll see what happens with that with Giovanni Gibson and some of the other additions that could come there.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: and some of the younger players who could continue to grow, but and then defensively obviously has been fantastic and you just look at the numbers and the way they were able to get off the field consistently, really the 75 yard run, really the only thing that really was a checkmark against that defense.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the defensive line was really disruptive.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: That was something I was looking for to in this one that we didn't see a lot in the Illinois State game.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I think those things can
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, I wouldn't quite say a program changing kind of win yet, but it's one that if they continue to go in this direction, we can point back to as you said and say hey this is this was a big moment for this program.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the defensive line like we know in the moment that it played really well.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think until got to go, I can watch the broadcast copy because as you guys know, but maybe the lister doesn't quite know, usually we're chasing down and tracking so much stuff in the moment, whether it's a, hey, I spit most of my time watching not the offense, but Michael Fassussi specifically through the binocular stuff like that.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think I had the proper appreciation for what that defensive line did until you can watch the broadcast copy on the spider cam and just see, oh yeah, the line of engagement was actually a yard and a half into Michigan's backfield because they just won over and over and over again, not not to jump around too terribly much, but Carson, you were on the SEC teleconference today, Brentman was was asked about Giovanni Gibson who was going to be a piece that maybe disrupts that receiver rotation that Ryan was talking about there.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I pretty have to say about Giovanni Gibson, not necessarily that we'll see him Saturday against Temple, but it's certainly said like a good update.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was very positive from Brent Metables about Giovanni Gibson in classic Metables form a little bit vague, no time table, but pretty much said things are looking up.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing really well in his rehab process, catching balls in practice.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it sounds like he's trending the right direction, like you said Ryan, probably a no-go for Temple.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't heard
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: something else would be the case, but definitely someone that they expect to get back fairly soon.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean with his size, six, two, two, one hundred and eleven pounds.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: That is a big weapon that can add to what guys like he owns as Louis have done, Deon Burx, I say a satania.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: It just adds another depth piece in a different kind of playmaker that maybe the receiver room doesn't quite have right now.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and no forget they did this guys against Michigan.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: They made some mistakes.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about this on the postgame.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: But made some really big field position type mistakes that cost them on the scoreboard.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_03]: OK, we know that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_03]: But there could have been a, if they cut back on half of those mistakes, could have been an easy, comfortable victory there at the end.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: They wouldn't have needed a field goal at the end to clinch it, right?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_03]: It would have already been clinched, and they would have been just trying to wind down the clock.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: But they also, they're missing some starters on defense,
- 10:52[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you like Bowen, gentry Williams missed half the game, you know, young guys are coming in and playing and playing well, that's good, but you're still missing guys who are a little more experienced, a little more proven.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: So if they're able to get those guys back healthy in a timely manner, you know, there could be some really good moments for this team down the road.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll be one of the big themes of this week is going to be handling success, which we can get into here in a second.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: On the special teams, A were you were there on Tuesday for the Brittmanals press conference, Ben Arbuckle, all that fun stuff.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: I believe trim the fat might be the phrase that Britt used.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Is this one of those things when you look at it and go,
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Tate said that he's got to make the kick obviously, but he made another one later.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I am willing to say, can we give him a couple more kicks to see if it was a kick number one nerves type thing at Oklahoma?
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing is, you know, he went into the breakdown of Omasego in the fumbles.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of back Isaiah Satane, who's been a productive part returner in this conference to not evolve this thing into a massive fumbling issue.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so that they've got other guys that can return.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that's that.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, Sategna made several big plays on Saturday night.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: So obviously, the one, the Fumble really stands out, but he prevented an interception on the defensive side.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: On the offensive side was a part of a really nice catch there.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think this is something that you worry about either of those guys.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: Sategna or Tate Sandel right now.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: But it's something you certainly keep an eye on.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: Thought it was really interesting to see Grace and Miller and the job that he did after not putting in the first week was it four or five punts I can't remember.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'll average about 48 yards a kick.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is a guy who was a Juco soccer player.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: Just a few years ago, went to UCO, kicked a little bit there, and then now is it owe you.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: And it's one of those stories that, you know, heck, there's a lot of them on this team.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tagna, or not a tagna, with, you know, Grayson Miller.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: Owen Heinecky and everything that he's done, you know, maybe throw Jared can't get in that with everything that he's done.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Just a lot of really neat stories and Grayson Miller was the the most recent.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: But to get back to your special teams point, yeah, Brent Venables talked about just trim the fat.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's not anything, you know, massive that they need to change, but certainly they need to clean those things up because when you're in tight games, I believe they showed the
- 13:36[SPEAKER_02]: uh... in the way that that ended with a uh... block field goal that uh... help Georgia win that game in double overtime to highlight the importance of these special teams plays it may not feel big now but uh... could come back and by chillator real quick also run uh... brit has made it a a point
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: to mention those guys who nobody expected anything from nobody believed you were going to be here, you know, the whole from the punter to the tie-in to the to the kicker to I mean the whole whole thing.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: The walk online backer right former walk on Owen's on scholarship now, of course, but he had he mentioned it this week on the Sunday show with Toby on the Monday show with plank and he started in on it yesterday a little bit started down that road and then realized I'm already mentioned that several times this week I better go another path.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think he's trying to do the, you know, create your own chip on the shoulder type of thing.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody believes in us.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: I get it and especially given, you know, what they've been through the last three years.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: But these are the stories, I think, you know, for everything that we can mourn about what college football was.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think these are the stories that also,
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: highlight some of the positives of what college football has become because you've got guys who were able to have that upward mobility, you know, a few years ago, Grayson Miller might have just been trapped at UCO and stayed there.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're able to do what he did and move and make the best of things sort of a similar thing for Owen Heinecky.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, this is something I think we're going to see more and more.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're certainly things we lose with it.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: But this is one of the positive byproducts of it.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it is a lot of Brent Venibals sort of creating that us against the world mentality.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: But most coaches do it at some point, and certainly Brent has the ammunition to do with this year.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying this is what he's doing right now, either.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: I have been one that in the past, go back a couple of years ago when he had just thrown out a story about, you know, remember it was year two when in 99 to 2000 when we kick stuff up, going into the 23 season.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, why would you put that expectation out there?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it just seems like a self-inflicted expectation management.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: He has in the past,
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: described that 2,000 team as a bunch of misfits that has come together and the word misfits has popped up multiple times.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now again, I'm not saying that friends like trying to subliminal message his way into a 2,000 type run on it, but I hear Ryan Chapman.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: calling for national championship.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, all I'm saying is what made Red October, a lot of ranked matchups, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, what's going to make Red October, November, and December?
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, he's going to be the fact that every team they play the rest of the way outside of Temple in Kent State are ranked this week.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So you heard it here first.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's just been interesting to see that kind of go.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Before we dive back into this year's team and all that stuff, Oklahoma did get its first little nugget of recruiting momentum or the first tangible thing from the big recruiting week in that was.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: 227 athlete, widersiever, tomorrow, dessert and commits to Oklahoma yesterday, Tuesday.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Real quick, I just want to like read you a couple of numbers,
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: uh... illustrate what they're going for five ten one seventy-wide receiver you might go well that's not kind of the tangible guys or the big physical guys they've gone after well
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at the fact that his personal best 100 meter time is 10.32 and he posted a 10.39 in the California State Charactersville Championship in 2025, at Nike indoor Nationals in 2024, he set the Freshman National Indoor Record with a 6.789 60 meter sprint.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a 21.0400 meter sprint Carson, if you're not going to be big, you better be fast.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's also got production at the high school level, obviously, not to just read a bunch of numbers off stuff like that.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: But this guy, tomorrow, certainly fast.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it just feels like it's the beginning of what Oklahoma hopes is a trickledown effect that everyone can point back to and say, they were in the house for Michigan.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is where the big recruiting jolt went.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I like that it's kind of following the mold that they have in the receiver room this year as far as having the speed guys your satanias your deal on bricks and then you have your big guys obviously owe you only has two commitments from twenty twenty seven right now they still need to get a quote big guy that's sizable as that element but getting someone as fast as him I mean that's huge it's just really big considering the win the oh you got shows a little bit of
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: little bit of the product of them beating a team like Michigan at home, crazy atmosphere, obviously tons of recruits at that game, not saying that he might not have committed to OU if they didn't win that game, but it's probably a pretty good selling point when OU looks as convincing as it did against Michigan.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's a big get for the sooners and kind of should kind of start a trickle down effect, I think.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Jim now you told him he needs to get two friends so that they can have the Cali triplets 2.0 or what that's going to look like, but the Cali sooner's tweeted fire out there.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: The next big one, at least as far as a date that we know, the 15, which I believe is Monday, my calendar's correct.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not hacked for Philly yet, so I need to get through that before I turn the page.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: But Peyton Houston, oh, use 27, quarterback.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Target has announced that he's going to commit on Monday.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's an OU LSU USC still in there.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: He'll be in-house this week in her supposed to be in-house this week in his LSU takes on Florida, which is kind of Carson, like you said.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Massive atmosphere.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think that we've all seen it guys on social media, whether it be national media that came in and basically said, atmosphere is incredible.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it be all the Michigan fans who have had a huge outpouring of
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was unbelievable, if you listened to Gabe and Teddy and the Oklahoma Breakdown, Teddy was talking about how the earlier radio crew was talking, the Michigan radio crew and the Michigan play by play guy was basically going on in his post game and saying, the big tin screwed up by not just showing out for Oklahoma when Nebraska also was coming that the big tin really missed out on something that would add a huge, huge element to that league and certainly with where everything's gone.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: the fans did their part the team did their part and it kind of sets up a really interesting runway here because now it's kind of like the dream start for Venables in this career here at an offseason of hot seat hot seat hot seat today guys ESPN ran a story of a deceit's cooling on Brick Venables, John Matiers on all the heisman graphics and and who's something that we kind of talked about during the offseason
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: The defense took huge steps last year, but when you finish six and seven, right wrong or otherwise, people might not have given it the credit.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you go back to the Dane Brugler projected top 50 with our Mason Thomas, the very first sentences, Oklahoma's defense was still widely inconsistent last year, which just wasn't true.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: They were inconsistent at the end of the Missouri game, and they were trying to hold this thing together.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to give the deep ends, maybe they're 15 minutes early in the college football so you can be like, look, this all you deep ends and the transferation that Britain wills has made really in three years, but certainly to year four, it's been really impressive and they've kind of gotten a love who've wired a wire since that Michigan victory.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, when, when you hear somebody like Teddy Layman say it's some of the best defensive line film he's ever seen as a player or a broadcast or covering Oklahoma, that's some really heavy stuff.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_03]: He said that on the podcast, I believe this week.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, they're like you said an earlier and opening bit, they're living in the backfield.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_03]: A team like Michigan comes to Norman.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_03]: And you, you know, you look at the quality of the opponent.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: Michigan's always going to have good offensive linemen.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_03]: They're always going to have good athletes in the backfield at receiver and whatnot.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_03]: They may not have the most dynamic players at the wider receiver position, but they've got playmakers.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: They've got guys that know what to do athletically.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: And for Oklahoma to own that line of scrimmage like they did, that tells you right there, yeah, this Oklahoma defense Brent Vennables has, here's how I'm looking at it.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_03]: We no longer have to ask questions about the defense unless we want super-latives from venables or somebody.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: How great is this defense?
- 21:58[SPEAKER_03]: How amazing is this defense?
- 21:59[SPEAKER_03]: How good is this defense becoming?
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: How could what's their ceiling?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: We don't have to ask questions like, hey, how's your depth at lineback or you're playing a lot of youth at cornerback?
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't seem to be any problem in any of that.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: Just the fact that he's got the defense to this level.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_03]: Now we can turn our attention as reporters as inquisitive podcasters to the offense and all the questions that are sure to follow with that offense.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: good news is the Carson, if you look at it, something that was probably would have broken people's brains a year ago with how bad it got.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: When you open up the stats page, Carson right now, Jared Canick is tied for the most receiving yards for a tie-in.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Despite the fact that it'll come as played two games, there's a handful of teams that have played three games of league zero stuff.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: You have
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: three different guys, deon berks, Sharon Canick, and then count as Lewis that are in the top 63, I say 63, except for count as is.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: And receiving yards, that's three guys in the top 75 right now, you've got a guy in llamets here that with Leisoon on the ground, Leisoon through the air, he's like right now, if we just handed out the September highest, but it might go to material.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it very well could.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those things that, oh, you've played one not so great team and one team that we all think's pretty good.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know exactly what their ceiling is to Avers Point, but a good team, but either way.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just night and day from what this offense was last year.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you will look at their receiving stats.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: This is what is most staggering to me.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: Bauer Sharpleto, you do a 324 receiving yards last year.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: This year, three players already passed 150 yards halfway there, and we're going to be two games into the season.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty remarkable and materials been fantastic.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously got a stay healthy, that's a big thing.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: But assuming he does, I mean, he's right up there with the top of the list for Heisman, but some other good quarterbacks in this lead, that's going to be interesting as material.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, not facing off in a literal sense, but facing off against Garrett.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: To my point, a lot of good quarterback play in this league.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mentioned Jackson Arnold in that group, of course.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson Arnold, too, yeah.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, you know, the difference in Jackson Arnold and I still believe, again, that Jackson Arnold has a chance to be a really good player.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: But John Meteer is much more experienced at this point.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: And you can see the experience of sort of dripping out of him.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you, the from,
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: some of the the throws that he's made the poise.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I thought that that play gosh, where was I think it was in the second quarter when when he alluded it looked like a surefire sack was able to allude it make a a really good throw down field.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's throwing it into some tight windows with great confidence.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's building confidence in those receivers.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I think
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: While the limited wide receiver rotation has been sort of surprising to me at least, you can see the payoff of it just in the way that he's built with that rapport with Deon Berks, with Isaiah Cetanya, and with Jaren Canick, and it's really paid off it, and I think
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: You know, looking toward this temple game this week, one two great quarterbacks, the temple quarterback I believe is at the top of the QB rating nationally.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: But also you just remember what the offense look like last year against Temple, they won 51 to 3 in that game, but we still left, well, I still left, I won't speak for anybody else, but you still left being like, oh, this this offense could be in trouble, that's certainly not the case now with what they've been able to do, not that there aren't some some holes that they need to feel particularly in the run game.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that John Meteer has been able to do what he's been able to do, just really elevates this offense to another level.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Meteer, I looked up some stats this morning after two games, two weeks, two weeks of the regular season plus three, like Ryan said, for some others, he's seventh in the country in the category where he led the nation last year.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so through two games, he's second in the country and he points total points
- 26:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, 6th in the country and passing yards, 7th in points responsible for second in passing yards per game, 380 yards per game, and he second in the country also in total offensive plays.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so those are all nice numbers except the last one you're like, wait, why see running the football so much.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a little bit of concern there.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of the things I wrote about today as well, but yeah, he's let's see SEC player the week.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_03]: uh... the davial brion grade eight that a real Campbell Tyler rose national player the week with you know kid with texas ties he's having a heck of a start of this twenty twenty four twenty twenty five seasons
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: Everything you want there.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to read more about not just Jon material's legs now, you're setting it.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So, Michigan, Carson wrote about that.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma suitors on SI.com, Abraham, a story yesterday, the takeaways from the Brent Vittal's press conference where Jon material, his legs, his usage, stuff like that, talked about the bunch, and like who said he's got a car on that as well.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma suitors on SI.com.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: It flips us to
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think part of the good news about that Michigan win, too, is not only did Oklahoma come out and look dominant defensively, not only did they come out, you saw a lot of improvement in the offensive line and whether the traditional running game, invite your shy just being like running backs, running between the tackles was what he wanted to be or not.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think right now Tory play lot has the longest run of running backs with 11 yards that came against.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: Illinois state, but you don't go on a 16 play drive, even though they didn't feel going instead of a touchdown and play keep away for eight and a half minutes.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not having your way to a certain extent up front, whether that's five, six yards per carry, like a clip like that at the very, very in there.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's still room for improvement, which I think is the good thing.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: This wasn't like the stars aligned for Oklahoma, and that's how they beat Michigan.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: It was a, they overcame some turnovers.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: They overcame not just special teams, turnovers, but the rough in the kicker and missing a field goal.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: And the J not drop kickoff meant that they were behind that field position flip stuff like that.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: When you go into this week, it kind of becomes,
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Cars are, I'll go ahead to you first.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of different things we can hit.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: What do you most want to see from Oklahoma out of this temple game?
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: The offense specifically that says they're continue to take steps, because whether it's offensive line cohesion, the running game, you want to see and kind of force their hand with hot or whatever or Michael Hawke's computer was asked about as a guy.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't got to see any of the development dividends from that as well.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like there's a lot of things Oklahoma could still get out of this temple game other than just obviously you want to win if you're a climate move on to the next.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's definitely a lot to gain even though, oh, you, I think they're like 25, 26 point favorites at this point.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot that they can gain.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see a lot on the ground from guys like Javansay Barnes to replay Lock Jade and that.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like Barnes, he must have listened to a lot of the criticism he got in week one, because even if a stats weren't just amazing, he looked a lot more crisp.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, in the backfield against Michigan, he played a much better game.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: Blalox has been pretty impressive as a freshman.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still trying to get his legs under him.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to see more just true running plays.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, much here was kind of ball carry your number one against the Wolverines.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see some more run plays to the running backs.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then I also want to see some guys get some rest.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: See some of the backup skits, some time in like Zion County.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Haven't really seen him this year.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the other receivers, raggins, carry on.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: People have bragged about especially carry on incarnate.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: People bragged about them throughout the off season and how good they were.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a little weird to me.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen them, but that's also a testament to how well the starting groups of Tania Burks, Lewis, how well all of them have played obviously during canic too.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I just want to see some of those depth pieces get some time.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: Elijah Thomas and other guy we haven't seen despite getting rave reviews.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: He still has not played as a college player, so I want to see him.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: But more than anything, I want to see depth.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: and that a lot of different people can do it if the worst happens in injuries occur.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think, you know, you look at Temple, and yes, they've outscored opponents was in 97, 17, I believe, something like that.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: But we're talking about Howard and UMass.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: So let's not talk this up as, you know, oh, use biggest challenge to date or anything.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there are challenges to go in on the road and making a start there.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: But I think one,
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: you want the defense to continue to shine and show success at all levels, you know, I think maybe one of the biggest surprises of this defense has been the depth that we've seen at linebacker and I know, you know, obviously a lot of talk about Owen Heineke and everything that he's gone through, but I think he illustrates the kind of depth that I didn't think that they or I didn't know that they had there.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: uh... with uh... you know obviously on the seagull and and kip louis Kobe McKinsey we knew about those guys but you're seeing some some different kind of looks in the ability to go you know two and three deep and still be productive so i think that that's important uh... i'm with you on the running game
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: really thought Javante Bards played exceptional the other day even with not having big rushing numbers the blocking I believe he was a if you look at pffs run block metric
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: He was third behind only Logan Holland and Michael Fassucci on this offense, and I think if he's continued to use like that, I think that's going to be really intriguing to see, especially his Tory Blaylot continues to grow, and as, you know, OU leans on J. Not, a little bit more, but they certainly need to establish that ground game and do it.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: in a way outside of running John material because that is really hard to do weekend and we go.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I'll add to that real quick with the
- 32:36[SPEAKER_03]: The run-in-back situation barns, I think, if I heard correctly, I think it was Monday.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: I was listening to somebody talk about it.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_03]: And they said that they looked it up on PFF.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: He ranked second in the country among run-in-backs in blocking.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty good.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: That's some John Reagan-style stuff right there.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_03]: Also, a quick clarification on something Carson said.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: Elijah Thomas hasn't played yet in college on offense.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: He has played 23 snaps on special teams.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he is he is getting time.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: He I did see him on the field the other day last week, but the thing I want to see out of this temple game, I want to see somebody get double digit carries.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: Is that asking too much so far, Tory Blaylock got eight and nine in his back to back games.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_03]: I'd like to see somebody get 16 18 carries and go for 120 yards, you know, pop one somewhere.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_03]: They've got 100 yard receiver in each game, different guy, 100 yards for receiving and each game haven't come close to 100 yard rush or yeah.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that outside of John material, of course, we're talking about the running backs, but here had what 19 carries against that.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: 74, yeah, I mean, that's not a close to 100.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, just for, I think if you take out sex, I think he was almost close to 100.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: 82, 83 are something like that.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the other thing, too.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like we talked so much about John Mets here, House of State, it was 19 carries per game and I don't get it.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that you want to have him get hit 19 times in SEC play, but six one, two hundred and twenty three pounds.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's Jalen Hurtz.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's not Jomitier.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Hurtz is 61223 pounds.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: He took some hits and took some hits, all throughout SEC play.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: Jomitz here's actually 61224.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's what he's listed at.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe because Jomitz here doesn't have the years and years and years of backlog of squat data where we've seen him do the squat videos or headed to the locker afterwards.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's one of those situations
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's just because Jon material just did it at Washington State or things like that.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: He has the frame to be a really, really durable.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of fits some of these guys that have been able to have success as a dual threat guy and not like a Kyla Murray dual threat guy that is so fast he ever gets touched.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: Jon material does have that little bit bigger frame, but again, you absolutely don't want him taking 19 hits a game.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think throughout the season the STC.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: But that is one thing to notice that as he's talked about, you know, there have become moments and big third downs and stuff like that where you just, you got to be top and stuff like that I'm not as concerned with him there just because he does have those big powerful eggs.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think two part of the in the background of everything that we've been talking about here with the running game is.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: from game one to game two, you had three different, or three new offensively, I'm gonna excuse me.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Guys that didn't play in game one, Fassuci, Osada, and Derek Simmons came back in.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: Four new starters when you throw those three guys straight into the starting lineup, plus the flip-flop with Jake Micla.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: Fassuci had talked about, he got rolled up on after the game.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they get to like Monday or Tuesday and things are still pretty tender or if he's gonna be good to go, but regardless, I feel like once you have a performance like that,
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beanbow, Ben Arbuckle, Damarka Murray, they can sit down and say, here's the five guys up front.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what they do well.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: Now let's start to backfill what kind of runs do we think, what kind of schemes do we want to go?
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: Is that an odd style run?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is that barn?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: How do we mix and match?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: Get that thing going in here?
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that Oklahoma, one of the goals...
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: when you pair in the offensive line cohesion should absolutely be how do you take that step forward in the running game so that it's not all on geometry because then the flip set that's even if it gets an offer and geometry carries about 15 times but you're having success with art or you're having success with bars or whoever it is, success with Tory Blaylock that's just going to make the offense that much more dangerous because I think that was part of what kind of
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan struggle with on that last drive is you had different moments or it's like yeah, they're falling forward for three or four yards and I do think that Jade not a little bit of it I'm sure is that he missed so much time during fall camp and and he wasn't here during the spring I don't know how much of it when you go back to the headspace comments that that been our Michael made last week is a guy that was hurt a year ago And he's having to have confidence playing his guy that's not 100% but regardless of all that
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: he's going to have to figure out a way to take a step up in the past blocking game because this is not like a knock-on-shabout tape-arms, but that perfect, perfect play call of calling the basically screen for uh, or swing-pass for barns into the teeth of the Michigan blitz.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just trying to imagine that was an awesome play call, awesome play by Jemontay Barnes.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine if Jade knots the guy trying to make the linebacker myths on the sidebinder or the cornerback myths on the sideline or imagine that's Tory play lot.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Barnes has had some good moments but the most he's made everyone miss is either against Ole Miss or Maine and then he's kind of back to running into contact, which is great as a path blocker who've but we've seen enough of Jemontay Barnes to know the open field running to space is not usually his like strength.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're right, do we need to break down any more off the Suzy?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about the round and back of the white receivers, the quarterback, we'll talk a little bit about Canon.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'm off the Suzy.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_03]: in his first career game.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: Pro football focus had him rated at nearly a 75.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: It is first college football game.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: So he's legit.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: You look at each individual.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I said this on the podcast after the game.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_03]: I probably looked at him, studied him up close through the binoculars.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe it doesn't times 15 times, whatever it was.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_03]: Never saw any problems.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: Never saw him overwhelmed, never saw him behind.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: Never saw him holding or trying to click catch up,
- 38:36[SPEAKER_03]: getting angry or anything like that.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: The guy was always in control.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: That was just such an impressive debut.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: In Carson, you're down on the field, see you, but a different perspective than the three of us, but not just the sushi, but I thought that he, those Ida, coming off a shoulder surgery, hadn't had all of spring to go live, had kind of been nursed through fall camp for a guy that's basically a red shirt softballer and then a true freshman on that left side against Michigan's defensive lie.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's hard not to get excited about the potential what this thing could be in four
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: No, it totally is, and like you said, I have a different perspective not having that bird's eye look at it, but more often than not, I just see from both sides, left side of the line, right side of the line, holes opening up, and either play lock, barns, hot, running through them, obviously, material doing the same.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: I was just really impressed with how much time material generally had against a very good Michigan front seven.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: If there is one part of Michigan that is proven, it's their front 7, we talked about how their defense is loaded within a fellow guys.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: Some probably first team all big 10 picks.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: So there are a very good unit and oh use offensive line really past the test.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it's one of those things that it could be really good or really bad to have a true lit missed test game for your offensive line that early in the season because if it goes bad, one of your teams probably going to lose the game in two.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: you might not think you're out what you wanted to figure out.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: But what we saw is not that it went well, probably like you said a minute ago, Ryan, they probably have more direction about what this line can do, specific sets with certain backspot.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this one's better for Javanti Barnes, this one's better for art and whatnot.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: So just figuring those things out and still winning the game pretty comfortably.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's that's kind of the dream result I feel like.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just to follow up on that, you know, I think it was really big for the confidence of this group and you look at Michael Fassousey getting his first collegiate action just the confidence that when you go out there.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as as much as these guys have performed against top level talent, there's got to be at least some level of, you know, what, what is this going to be like to compete against a program like Michigan, you go out there perform that well, the confidence swells, the, the other returners for bet you we will, you know, he throws out a those guys Logan, howling.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, their confidence had just been eroded from what happened last year, and yes, there were, there were moments, but by and large that offensive line was a mess last year, and they needed that as well.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this can be.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as much as we talk about the potential for a turning point for the team and program, as that game was, I think it's as much a turning point for the offensive line in particular with what they were able to do and what they've showed now that they have the potential to be, you know, as this season continues to go on.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: If they want to be a turning point though that there does have to be one area of business that's it's hard to really like quantify and some of the brick vendors immediately talked about in the post game against Michigan and then kind of circle back to them was explored a little bit on Tuesday, which is if you go back to SEC media day 2024, what of the story lines coming in before everything went out the door and the season took a very different turn of year ago was.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: How does Oklahoma learn how to handle success and ride with success?
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was pointed to the 233 OU Texas game, the high of that, there was 7-0, 6-0, whatever it was after that, they went to a buy week, everyone's singing the praises of everything and then they have the UCF game, that was not really discipline defensively, UCF pushes Oklahoma in Norman, need to say like a 2-point
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: version to get out of.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really, really treacherous waters.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: The Kansas game happens.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Bedlam on the road happens that things aren't good there.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: Even to a certain extent last year, I think it's a very different situation with beating Alabama.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: That was almost like your plan for pride on seeing your night and
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: you made it to the bull so that the all the question marks about the bull streak and all that was kind of lifted.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: But they went to Bat Rouge and didn't play well.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't handle that week over week success.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: Who that this is one thing that Brent's talked about never was really in that spot in 2022 because they were just trying to figure life out year one under Vendibles all that stuff.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: But this is one of those spots where I don't think you're going to be tested as far as like should Oklahoma be worried about going out and
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: UCF couple years ago.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: Stable team, what I don't think is as good as that UCF team, but for you, when you're looking at this week against Temple, what is that?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is it as simple as the defensive lines to crack in schools, they handled the success well enough for it, cover, dominate, well, what do you look important to see if they've taken that first step in that direction here this week?
- 43:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a good question.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: The defense needs to absolutely dominate the line of scrimmage.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_03]: Like they did against Michigan.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that's asking too much to go on the road to the link in Philadelphia and dominate the line of scrimmage against Temple.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's probably first on your checklist.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_03]: If that doesn't happen, I'll have said in there your questioning guys, hey, how motivated were you during the week?
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: How focused were you during the week of preparation?
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: Did you even, did you sleep through film prep?
- 44:07[SPEAKER_03]: Why weren't you, why weren't you better on Saturday against the team like this?
- 44:10[SPEAKER_03]: So those are the questions you would ask if things go sideways in any way shape or from because listen, temples got some numbers.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_03]: I know they haven't played anybody any good, but they've got some numbers.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_03]: They know how to move the football.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_03]: They've got a quarterback who's very efficient.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_03]: So the second thing is,
- 44:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I'm sorry, it's temple, line of scrimmage.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_03]: What's the offensive line look like?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: Is it third and one and you're having to load up and run the belldozer again on third and one?
- 44:37[SPEAKER_03]: And then fourth and one, right?
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: You want to be able to turn it hand the ball to Barnes or Robinson or Tory Blaylock or somebody.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_03]: And pick up a first down.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's not asking too much.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: I get lots of depth in there, get lots of players and they find out who your corners are
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, depth pieces, maybe linebackers as well, get some, you know, get the score up there a little bit in the 30s spread wise and see who your younger players are that can come in and perform under, you know, dire circumstances.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's just temple and but I go back to this lot had the good fortune to work a good deal with with Kelly Greg who Not on a great Oklahoma team, but I think his tenure with the ravens lends a lot of credibility.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think to everything Kelly Greg and the mentality of guys that are like that good
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: He always talks about these games is looking forward to it when we might think hey, why is this team not locked in stuff like that He's like yeah, the NFL.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is where we would always turn around and and just sprint to saying this is where we pick up all of our incentives That that's the kind of like kill mentality of find a way to motivate yourself for Armace and Thomas.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: He had told himself before the season Hey, I want to get make a run at Oklahoma's sack record needs 14 to tie it
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's like Armace's fault.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gotten to the corner back yet because Illinois State was like quick passing game and then they're just right in the ball to not get hurt.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan just decided not to throw down field.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: But, of course, this is where if they're really turning that corner that they've got to find somehow some way to motivate themselves, even if it's just as simple as, hey, I want to pad some stats in the first half and then watch our younger pieces go out there and dominate the second half of it.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: That to me is what.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: finding some sort of way that that's the Kirby chip right Kirby smart takes one person who's a moron that picks them to go six and six when no one actually thinks They're gonna go six and six and suddenly that is fueled the fire throughout you know a 22 season or whatever it was
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if I'm John Matier, my main motivation for this game is rest.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be able to take a 30 point lead in the half time and just not play.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: do his thing in the second half.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: I took some shots against Michigan.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: I want to get my body good.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be prepared for Auburn.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I'm a better team than Temple.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: I want to get that rest.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: But things have to click.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Temple is probably
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: Probably the easiest opponent besides can't state the rest of the year, but it's not a bad football team, but gotten a lot better from last year's team.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think we kind of all, at least I did.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of thought they were the second easiest game on the schedule coming into the year.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: Seems like they've turned a corner KC killer used to be the same Houston coach.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: and he's a heck of a coach.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: So they have gotten better, but you look at size, athleticism, how seriously football is taken with any program.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: It shouldn't be too much of a challenge.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's just got to be one of those motivating things for not just material, all of the stars on both sides of the ball.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get a big, let's not give them anything to believe in, and let's get some rest.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Let the younger guys play, let the reserves play.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that should be the motivating
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think to me, take advantage of your physicality, you know, the golf between the physicality on OU side versus temple side, take advantage of that, handle business, do what you need to do.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, like who was saying,
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: build some of that death you know get get to where we can see maybe some of those linebackers get to where we can see you know the cornerbacks beyond the top two I think it's still for for corollangillary building continuing to build confidence I think it's going to be fascinating
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: Teams change the way they're attacking, oh, use defense as a season goes on.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen them through the first two games really try to test the freshman and it hasn't gone too well for them.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: So does that change?
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: Does, you know, gentry Williams on the other side get tested?
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: Do some of these other guys get tested?
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: Some more, and I think you're going to have to, even though they've shown, you know, a decent amount of depth,
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: you're going to have to lean on it more and more because you're going to have injuries and things like that pop up.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: And this is, you know, about as good as the game as they have the rest of the way.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: Again, this can state to develop it.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I wouldn't, you know,
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they can't just walk in and expect to be handed the win.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was at Peyton Bowen on Monday night said, you know, if we, you know, go up there, just expecting that a win is automatic, we're going to, you know, F around and find out is what he said.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this temple team is, you know, good enough to make that the case.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: but they're not good enough where if oh you is focused and everything is hominolong like it should be that this should be a game in the second half.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, we've mentioned him a couple of times, I think today, but without mentioning the news that we heard yesterday and that is Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, yeah, this could be a big game for me to go out there and get, you know, get some, get some snaps and get lots of second half Ron, I told you guys before the season opener.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see him on the field for the entire second half against Illinois State.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, I didn't happen, you know, but to your head to go to the distance of that one, which, uh, no, that's relevant.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_03]: No, that's going to happen.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to read, they want to redshirt it.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: They want to redshirt, uh, Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: Big game potential for wit new power on Saturday and Philly he's a he's a rolly North Carolina native.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe the family is I mean, that's not too far away.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's a couple of states away.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: So could be fun to watch if if material is able to get a big lead this time.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: I still think that you go.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_02]: I still think that you go to Hawkins get him some some reps initially because I think if a
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: that Hawkins would be the guy to be that second guy in the guy that they would lean on, especially given his experience.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, they clearly want to redshirt him, but you've also got to get him some reps at some point, and this is as good a game as any, with the you know, red shirt rules, what they are, things like that.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: necessarily agree with the methodology, though, because remember, uh, in 2023, how they miss handle Jackson Arnold.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: Let's run Jackson Arnold, the freshman on some short yard and stuff.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: Let's dive him into the pile against Tulsa and get his knees hit and get his shoulders hit.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and, you know, burn his red shirt, end up needing him at the end of the season at BYU, and burn his red shirt.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he probably looking back at that right now going.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: That coach, can I know you can't you can't appeal that so I think today's MCAA won't hear that one
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think this I think this is being handled different.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what happens, but I don't think this is a situation where they're going to throw them out there in a package or things like that that they're going to use multiple weeks.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, hey, let's get some in-game reps this year where he can get comfortable and confident with those guys, but not have to burn the red shirt.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I think with the schedule what it is, you don't imagine they're going to be very many opportunities to do this.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_02]: So if there are, you throw them out there, but I would hope that you learned something even though the offensive staff is different, learn something from the Jackson Arnold saga because, yeah, that was not the best way for that all to play out for sure.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's fairly big because there are so many, first up, I think it's an issue that I think Oklahoma fans obviously hope is not an issue and it's not something that really, really matters, but it's one of those conversations like a like a façousey.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: If a souci's ankle is tender, do you hold them out so he's as fresh as possible against Auburn?
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: I can see the logic on that side.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: I would sit on the other side as far as you want him to play and build that cohesion in that chemistry, even if it's just for a first half and then you ain't came out early at things are in hand.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: With Hawkins, I can see like seven different sides of this first stop, it's a new offense.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: And as much as we just talked about the confidence that might have been built in that offensive line from the guys that were here a year ago that needed that confidence boost.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: you want maybe in a new offense to go out and give Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: some confidence in a game like this where I think that Rick Vittables said that they don't want to box themselves in.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if what he means by that is like we've said, you don't want to throw out a Hawkins pack and just because it boxes you in.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want, I don't know if that means he doesn't want to throw him out against Temple because he thinks one game box is a man or just knowing.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, if you get to a point by South Carolina, where you have to take big steps, something's gone wrong, not convoided with your starter, and from that point with this deepance, and an offensive line that maybe is better, even if it's a guy that, yeah, he is experience from last year, but it's not the experience you want, what does that look like?
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: I can see you going, well, he has starting experience in the SEC and watching this, how could you not have more confidence in your offensive line?
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's also the weird tangent
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was not Ben Arbuckle's offense during the bull game, but he did get to go through practices where Ben Arbuckle was the quarterback coach that was working with him and talking to him.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: And while Ben Arbuckle wasn't calling the bull game, he has experience trotting back over to the sideline, and this is how Ben Arbuckle identified stuff.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those situations that the only way I think will know what the wrong answer was if we get to the end of the season and it's like material played on 12 games so you could have played Hawkins in the second half against Temple and in the second half against Kent State or we get to the end of the season and say well material had to miss the in the Alabama game and so if you had
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: not play Hawkins early.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: You had enough time to go Alabama, Missouri, LSU, and Tennessee, I guess, would have been the other one.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's the Tennessee game, and you have those points.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those things that I only think the right answer that we'll know will be when we get to week 12 and start count and stuff up and going.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_01]: But you could use them here.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: You could use them there.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those that I don't in V-Brip
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of those things that when you've only been a head coach for four years, the only time we can point back to it is the Arnold situation, which resulted in burning a red shirt essentially.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I do recall specifically that week of the BYU game.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was, no, no, no, no, we're not doing that.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: We're red shirting him.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, really?
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: You're red shirting him, are you okay?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_03]: You want you to need him to beat the Cougars first, out in a provo.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: And there was another instance last year where two instances, Eddie Pierleey looked good against Maine, but the decision was made.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: We are redshirting him not available.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: The flip side of that is Xavier Robinson willingly burned his wretched.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: They had to go to him and say you've hit your four games.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to stop or do you want to help this team in 2024?
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: Save Robinson was happy to be the team guy and say burn it, let's go, I'd rather play now.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: So it's fascinating just kind of the pros and cons and it's one of those things that I don't know if I think there's a right answer or wrong answer until we'll know definitively in December, which one was right, which one was wrong, which is a uh...
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: I hesitate to pre-hammer a coaching staff for something that may have not happened.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting there.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_03]: The one that you go with wit, new power, wit, wit, wit match the wits up there.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: The one that I do think will be a little interesting.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe if Oklahoma plays up to their potential, we do not learn this answer this week.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: By virtue of how Illinois State looked around and said we have stuff to play on the FCS level once I written has to gotten pulled out.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: By virtue of how good Oklahoma's offensive line was, or a deep advice, excuse me, was against Michigan and the fact they didn't have Marlon Klein, all that stuff.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that we've seen Oklahoma be tested down field truly in the secondary quite yet that something that popped up a year ago against Tennessee with the more physical bigger body wider severs, something we certainly saw in the couple of strikes that Auburn hit and we know that next week, Auburn will have the horse on the outside to test Oklahoma now.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Jack's not gonna throw the ball more than 10 yards down field.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: That is to be determined, but they at least have the bodies that the stuff like that.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, is this a...
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would feel better maybe going into the Auburn game if Temple takes some shots downfield.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's certainly going to be confident with Simon, but the flip side of that also is that means that Temple was able to hold up long enough with local mispass rush, so it's one of those things that better worst day to few day if you don't, if we find out those answers, even if the secondary passive flying colors when it comes to downfield shots, specifically.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm with you.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a double-edged sword in some ways, but I'm with, I'm tracking what you're saying.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Bryce Underwood, and they did a phenomenal job stopping him.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the defense deserves a lot of credit for that.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: But Bryce Underwood's not a finished product, by any means, still has a lot to work on with this passing and various parts of his game, even though he has higher potential than just about any quarterback in the NCAA.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna be,
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: better quarterbacks that owe you faces this year, more experienced, more veteran quarterbacks.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned a few of them earlier.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of guys that can beat you deep can do a lot of things and throw accurately.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, Evan Simon, his numbers are fantastic, nine touchdowns, zero interceptions.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_00]: all be it against not great competition in the first two games of 2025, but he's looked good.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_00]: He has an arm seems like he is kind of their guy in the clubhouse, so I'm interested to see how they use him if they kind of take that approach that Illinois State did of.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_00]: We're not winning this game, but we can still compete for an FCS title.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not throw written house back out there after the injury.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: Temple who knows, I mean, I don't know as much about the AAC, I know two lanes good, I know Memphis is good, like they have some good teams, but Temple, if they look like they have the first two weeks of the season, maybe they could compete for something in the AAC, maybe they're down decently big in this game, they're like, you know what, we don't want to risk this Simon's too good to lose for the entire season.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: We don't want to chance this, but
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: From an OU secondary perspective, I want to see some downfield shots.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see what they can do.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Gillary's looked fantastic.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the DBs have.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to see more of it and some more.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: Just some more accurate quarterback throws that OU's defensive backs really have to make plays on.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_03]: What was the stat that Mike, how can his death uncovered on Saturday night?
- 59:49[SPEAKER_03]: Something like this is the fewest number of yards that I know you secondary has given up since like 1985 or something like that?
- 59:57[SPEAKER_03]: I can't remember what the number was, but it's absurd.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's like 30 some yards of game passing.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, holy cow.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think that one is since 98 and then this is the most passing the flip side of that to the the defense the passing our since 98 and then material is the most passing yards in his favor since hyper in 99 to start the season through two games so we're going back hey for all the bad times we went back to 1998 last year that's how we know things are different and we're going back to 98 for a good step
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: for Oklahoma and the defense.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was that was actually just about to say that exact thing.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's crazy.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, after all the 98 talk last year, but you know, I think it's interesting looking at at temples offense.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they've scored a lot of points and their their passing game has been responsible for most of that, but they haven't hit a touchdown pass of over 29 yards yet through these first couple games, so it's not like they're taking a lot of deep shots.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see if they do that.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think it becomes much harder when you've got a defensive line, like Oklahoma's, if they're able to get in the back field and create that pressure that we expect them to, then they're not going to have time to take those deep shots.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I think,
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: uh... for o u yes that secondary needs to be tested and needs to be tested you know fairly soon will get tested against Auburn but i i'm just not sure that this game is the one to really do it in that kind of way uh... because of what what temples often is you know there's plenty of things that are going to get tested on unease defensive side but not sure that that's one of them uh... this weekend at least
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_03]: Let's see, a opponent passing total through two games.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_03]: So, I was like, yeah, it'll be good.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_01]: Should be good, should be good.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: A-bur at the Saturday noon, would it depend on what you're listening to this?
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: Where we're recording at Wednesday, it's 140.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: Just to clock out that, he'll have a story coming out here about some of the defensive mentality and the shift that's happened here, some really interesting tidbits when Britain knows to talk about oh and hi, Nikki, that he'll pull apart.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_01]: I will tease this.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_01]: On the radio side of life, we do get to talk to Kobe McKinsey every Monday as part of, but we've done that with Statsman the last couple of years.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it really stood out to me that when, when asked about Satania's mothpunt and stuff like that, he kind of recalls that him and Kip Lewis come ripping down the sideline and they were excited because they were like, that's more reps for us.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, man, that is such night and day from the first two years of the Britt Vinnables era where in year one,
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he kind of got sick of it.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know he got sick of it by the end of the year.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was asking it in a bunch different ways.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was like it was bin, but don't break until you broke.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then it was an avalanche type thing.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: How do you flip that mentality and stuff like that?
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it really does seem like it's going to be a story for Peyton Bowen's talk about his gave some interesting quotes when Brent was talking about Owen Heinecky to some different angles in there.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_01]: But about to be coming to the site here, Oklahoma Sooner's on si.com.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you missed any of our content so far this week,
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to everybody.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's been an absolutely incredible kind of couple of days here.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_01]: We can't keep up with the world through, whether you're talking about Carson's story on John material's rushing and everybody, how sustainable that's going to be that Hube and Aruple touched on.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, a little bit of I'm gonna have a little bit more stuff looking at the running game here at three o'clock on Wednesday to be sure you're hitting us up there as well as all of our Thursday content.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_01]: Carson and I, we will be infilly this weekend.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_01]: So the post game pod will just be Carson and I will be able to circle back next week with all of who have an A ever thoughts.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: on the game as well as we preview Auburn and and that'll be kind of kind of crazy 1-3rd of the way through the year going into Oklahoma's first by week a first SCC game behind that'll be nuts but not to get too far ahead of it.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'll open up the floor is there anything else that we've hit on or miss that needs to be pulled apart a little bit extra here before we did it bad here for this week?
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_03]: Not to go full sanitary on three on you guys but we're not done hiring.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_03]: We're not.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_01]: We may have some news for you coming up very well not.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not acquiring another site or shocking world like that.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_02]: As long as Set higher isn't named Ryan.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_02]: What's good.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_02]: Cool.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: Two is okay.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_02]: Three is a little bit tough to deal with.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'd get confusing.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't make that difficult.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, we're a quick elsewhere.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma baseball yesterday, their SEC opponents were announced.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: So you have that out there.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma is also announced, slash confirmed.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the phase one renovations out of LDL National Park, I hope everyone liked.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: Section 405, that one is going to sunset.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_01]: So they can start doing some of the work that they have planned out there in the outfield.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_01]: Very, very needed and well earned for that program and skip, but everything that he's done.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: I will throw it here.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you guys may see if you're watching on YouTube.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's this, uh, Atlanta Braves helmet over here, uh, Drake Baldwin has been fantastic.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: He will probably finish second and in over a few of the year, though, because, uh, right, neighbor, there, there's a coming out there with some OU ties that is absolutely shredding right now on, uh, Chicago, in Chicago.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think there's a lot of concerns with the Chicago Cubs, and I could probably talk for an hour about those hitting the rest of the different podcasts.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but Cade Horton, this is a new podcast.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_02]: So we can talk about Cade Horton has been phenomenal since the All Star Break.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_02]: And you look at the numbers that he's put up.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've just been off the charts.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I did not expect him to be the rookie of the year.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_02]: But he certainly looks like he's running away with it right now with what he's done in the second half of the season.
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully he can lift the cubs not only in the playoffs where they should be, but, you know, beyond that, because they've certainly got a chance in a fairly wide open national league right now.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_01]: helps if you turn your mic put on Ryan yeah me right not that right yeah that's one of those things that you look at it and when you think about all of that and then what skips got going on we know what he is as a pitching coach but it also doesn't hurt whatsoever that if you pull up you know the nationals they're they're rocking and rolling there cake of all these had some some good starts out there for Washington so
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a spot where much like when you look at Oklahoma basketball and they held a big recruiting weekend and having tray young buddy heel Jeremiah a few years back in, it's never going to hurt that right now, uh, betting favorite out there in Chicago to be your in a rookie of the year with what's right ball and kind of trailing behind.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_01]: So good news there certainly in the baseball front today at to a clock
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_01]: So this will already happen by the time you listen to this it'll be soft balls turn They're gonna get their SEC upon it.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_01]: So there's got more that that's gonna happen here at around two-ish So if you're looking forward to who's gonna be in Norman where is Oklahoma soft?
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be hitting the road all that stuff.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_01]: I at least the SEC side of that will be out here shortly Other than that like we said all by game day coverage Look for some other news and notes some other announcements
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_01]: personnel KYP around here at the as soon as on S.I.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_01]: Crew.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: But until then, cars and I will talk to you guys out there in Philly and then next Wednesday for the full pod for Aper for Carson for whom I'm Ryan Chapman.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: We will talk to you guys next weekend.
