Let me start off by saying thanks to Deal Cooper for filling in for me yesterday. As I think most of you know I have various business things that do outside of this show, and sometimes they take me away from the microphone. Not often, but it does happen, as was the case yesterday, and it will also be the case for me next Thursday as well, and a couple of days during the month of June. Sorry, but it happens. I leave you in the capable hands of Dale Cooper those so thanks to Coop, He'll be hosting for me next Thursday. And I want to talk about this morning show the situation with the Canawa County Commission. As you know, longtime county Commissioner Kin Carper resigned for the position last week, one week ago today to be exact. Of course, you know that the primary was held on Tuesday, with Chris Walters capturing the Republican nomination for commission and Natalie Tenant whin He's a Democratic nomination. Those two will face off in November, but who takes Carper seed until then? I had Deet Curzy from the Secretary of State's office on earlier this week. He was also on Hoppy yesterday talking about it. Of course, nothing will happen until canvassing on Monday and the certification of the election. What do these sitting commissioners think should happen. We'll talk to one of those, Ben Selango later in the show. Plus doctor Casey Sacksbridge Valley will be stopping by. There's an event happening tomorrow in Joplin Park in South Charleston, the benefit of a local animal rescue group called Pig of the Litter. Robert Porter Wagner with the group, who is going to join us to talk about that? The bicycle let's continue to roll through downtown Charleston. I was downtown last night. Man, what an experience. Brian. Those bikes go fast. That's that's my takeaway. The bikes move fast. So we got lots to cover this morning, but let's start with the returning Hannah Gardner the canaw charlest Remain Association with this week's adopt Me please put it the week Handah, Good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning. How are you I am? I'm not gonna lie. I'm feeling very under the weather, but I'm here right. The show must go on. The show must go on. But we'll get through it, all right. So I haven't had a chance to talk to you since Tuxas and tales a couple of weeks agoing to start with that before we get to the pad of the week. How was the big events? It was very successful. We did have a lot of people show up. We had a puppy race that happened, We had lots of good food, entertainment and it was all around just a good night. And I do believe we had a great outcome for like the fundraising cart of it as well. And that's what it's all about it And I know it was, am I correct? And that it was sold out? Yeah, I believe so. Last I heard it it was about to be, so I'm pretty sure it was. Well. I saw a lot of the pictures. I was unable to attend, but I did see a lot of the picture Look like you guys did a fantastic job, as you always do. With that, let's talk about our doubt me. Please put it the week as always. Picture posted Dave Island Radio on Facebook and The Dave Island Show on x Gucci is our petit of the week. Tell me about Gucci all right? Well, I personally have spent time with him. He hangs out in the back office during the daytime. Sometimes He actually is around about so he was. He had a previous owner to which the owner did have to surrender due to some other issues. But he is around eleven to thirteen years old. We have him listed as thirteen just to be on the higher end of saying so that way in case he is actually thirteen, people know. But the owner did say he was around eleven to thirteen, so he's somewhere around there. But he's very very definitely doesn't act like thirteen. He still has some funk to him. He likes to play. He's definitely you can tell he's old, so you can tell. He definitely likes to lay around. He doesn't like to run too much, but he will play with a ball. He'll play with stretch or something like that. We had him out in the playyard yesterday playing with him, and he absolutely loves play and fetch. He'll bring the ball to you. He doesn't really want you to say kid, but you can take it anyway because he'll he'll want you to start. But he's a really really good boy. He I think, yeah, he is six already. He is a very very good with calmer dogs, so he would be good. I was mentioning to you, he'd be good with a family that maybe has older kids due to him just not really like being restrained or anything. And I know some younger kids like to hug one dogs and stuff like that, so he is kind of iffy about that. But as long as he's got some supervision, I think that it would be okay, as long as you know you're watching them and stuff like that. But he is very, very good, all around good. Other than that, he's very laid back. He kind of just wants to hang out, sit on maybe the couch with you or the porch with it. He definitely likes being outdoors, that's for sure. So he would be a good dog that if you like to go for like car rides or something, he seems like he would be fine with that. Taking him on walks every day. He loves being If you have a yard, like a big Senson yard or something, it seems like he would be great with that because he loves to play. He does pool on the leash a little bit, and he is housebroken, so from what we've seen, he keeps a very very clean kennel and the owner that had him prior to also said that he was housebroken, so it is possible that any dog, even if they are the greatest housebroken dog ever, can have accidents because he's routines are different and dogs usually go based off of routines, so he could possibly have an accident. But he hasn't in the back office either, so he seems very well housebroken. He's a beautiful dog. What am I seeing when I'm looking at that picture? I mean, I seems like maybe a little bit of pit. Is that possible? Yeah, it looks like maybe pitt or some type of like bully breed. He's very true to that though I wouldn't really know what else he's mixed with. But he's very good and I absolutely love teddies and bullieves myself. But he's that up my alley. But Dave Island showing five Aye Lie brought to you apart by fresh Air. We talk about him every week. Everybody seems to want of a puppy, or they want a kitten, or they want something that they can raise around. But sometimes we've had so many success stories since we've been doing this segment for about what the last year and a half or so, we've had so many success stories with people adopting these older pets and bringing him in their home and finding out that a lot of times with these pets, not to play animal psychologists here, but a lot of them have gone through a lot of stuff. They just want to relax, man, They just want to hang out on the couch, as you said, They want to sleep that. They don't want to cause any problems. They just want fed, They want to be taken out. Sometimes the older ones make very very good pets to be adopted. Yes, I always, always always say that the older ones at the shelter are good candidates to be in a home where somebody's looking for something that sayesn't necessarily have to be a puppy, because our puppies and kittens and cats, they all go rather quickly like they'll be there for no longer than maybe like two weeks or so. But our adult dogs last for a handful of months to under a year. I don't think we've had one that has been quite a year yet, I don't think, but we've had a lot of them that have been there for hot ups to that. So I definitely always recommend coming up and meeting them, even taking them for a doggy day out you could do where you could come pick them up in the morning, spend the whole day with them, see how they do outside of the shelter. Of course, they just have to be appruvesed for that, but most of the dogs can, and it's a good kind of idea to let you know how they might be outside of the shelter because a lot of the dogs that are really hyped in their kennels or really they look like maybe they're aggressive or something like that, they're really not. It's just being in that stressful environment in the shelter is hard on them. A lot of dogs barking all day long. It amps them up and it gets their anxiety high. So getting them out of that is a really really good idea. All right, before we let you go house to search for a new location going, can you tell us where that is? Yeah? I believe we have a new location. I think we had posted about it or mentioned it on the news or something like that, but we did find a piece of land. We are hopefully going to be talking more about that soon, okay, and it'll let you know exactly where. And I know that we've already put the ideas out on what the shelter is going to look like. We presented that at Chextas and Tells as well. We should have that online. R Hanna, I appreciate you and we'll talk again next week. Thanks a lot, awesome, Thank you, Hannah Gardner again from GNAW Charles Humaine Association. This week's Adopt Me Please Better the week. Gucci is the dog's name somewhere between eleven and thirteen years of age. Newter and housebroken, prefers to be around calmer dogs, very laid back older dog. But as Hannah said, on one hand, Guccie seems you can tell Gucci's an older dog, but ain't read. Ain't ready to cash in yet because the dogs still loves to play fetch. Probably would do better with older kids vaccinated and we'll be micro chipped. And again, sometimes the older dogs make the best adopted friends. So go get Gucci and I've got the picture posted if you want to see what Gucci looks like posted on my social media, Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and a Dave Allen Show at a Dave A seventy on Ax. If you follow animal rescue groups on Facebook, you'll notice there's been a huge rise in dog and cat abandonments and dump and drive offs. Could someone in the media please explain why these stories are not being covered at all? Well, I mean, we get some information out there to the public. I mean, we just had a story here in our own building where the I think it was the sun of one of our salespeople found a kitten yesterday that had been placed in a dumpster at his place of employment. I think it was, and so we were trying to get that story out there among the company and friends and family members try to get that particular kitting adopted. But you're all right? Is it is definitely a problem. Phone calls of a Dave Allan's show our service of Bigley Pickley Wiggily. When shopping at your Big Picky Wiggily, be sure to join their loyalty program. Before we get in talking about Bridge Valley, I want to throw this out there, as our listeners know, you did run for a seat in the Canaw County Board of Education tuesday. You've done a great job when you've been on the show in the last couple of months of separating your job at Bridge Valley from your run at the school board. So before we get to the Bridge Valley stuff, I'll give the opportunity if you'd like to thank those who supported you in that pursuit of the of the board seat. That's so nice. Thank you. I am so honored by the five thousand people who voted for me. I really truly appreciate their support, and I will continue to work for our kids in our schools. I think it's incredibly important that we all really engage to try to make the community stronger. All right, So let's move on to your other job, and that is your job at Bridge Valley. I want to talk about this win program at Bridge Valley it's really been gaining momentum. For those that may have not have heard you on the program in the past, Doctor Sax, what is the WIN program? And I think you're into graduation mode with that now, Is that right? We are? Oh my gosh, it's been so so fun. So the WIN Academy is for students who are in high school. They're in their junior and senior year and they have decided that they're ready to start their careers early. So it's the workforce initiative. So our first group of students all said that they want to be nurses, and so they came into Bridge Valley to work on all classes that go into an RN so that they can graduate with us with an r N degree and start working as a registered nurse here in the community or transfer. We have that three plus one agreement with WVU, so some of our students will actually stick around with us for three years of college and then do one year at WVU. So they're saving almost seventy thousand dollars by making that choice to live at home and go to Bridge Valley and then they'll still graduate with their bachelor's degree from WVU. So it's a huge cost savings for families. It's really an incredible program and everybody's trying to save money right now. Doctor Syche, Gosh, yeah, it's it's just so good for families. So the Win Academy we enroll twenty students last year. We're allowed to enroll one hundred and twenty, so families who hear this and think they're interested, we can take more. It's for students in high school who say that they want to do college now, and so they leave their assigned high school wherever they are by zip code, and they come to Bridge Valley and they are in college classes. We treat them like college students. And our first cohort did all nursing. We're going to also expand into advanced manufacturing technology here in the fall because our employer partners just love this program. And we had our first graduating class just last Friday. So we had eight students who completed for them amounted to a year of college. We've been open for a year, so they transferred in for their senior year and they completed their high school diploma with us. They completed their first year of college, so they all now are sophomores in college. Half of them are staying with us here at Bridge Valley and the other half are transferring somewhere else to go to school, which is both are great outcomes and it's been so fun. Several of them started doing their nursing clinical rotations and have talked about how great it's been to do things like draw blood and go to hospitals and go to nursing homes and they've really gotten some clarity about careers and healthcare and what it is that they want to do, and they're incredible. I'm so proud of these students. While we're talking about graduation, doctor Sachs just had graduation for the rest of the college. Is that right? We did. It's such a fun time of year, so many celebrations, dozens of pending ceremonies and leadership banquets and all all kinds of celebrations. But the graduation really is the culmination. And we had three hundred students graduate this year and a really great celebration at the Convention Center Coliseum. It's been they're just they're terrific. Are you being arrested? We're having a fire alarm? So do you need to go take care of that? You need to, I mean I probably should evacuate the building. It's the right thing. Well, you're on a mobile phone, right, No, I'm not, but I can call you from the parking lot. Ok, all right, let's do that then, So Ryan, she'll call back. How's that all right? Dave, I'll call you a minute, right, thanks? All right? That may be a new one. Ryan, thirty six years in the business, I don't think I've ever had somebody have a fire alarm that. I mean, you're the master of the promo. I mean, that may be a promo right there that we had some we had we had a call to the program interrupted by fire alarm at Bridge Valley. So well, that's good. Parents. If you're thinking about or adults or anybody thinking about going to Bridge Valley, add that to the list of things that work there. The fire alarm system works well at Bridge Valley. What do the Democrats need to get some victories? Come this fall. We're going to talk to Hobbies, going to talk to Mike Plant about that. You know, we have the race from governor, which is going to be between Patrick Morrissey and Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, but also we had the Senate race as well. Mike Plant's been doing it for a lot, been doing it like for one hundred and eighty years or something. I'm kidding. Plants a friend of mine. He's going to be on the show to talk about that with Hoppy. John Decker will be stopping by to talk about the Trump trial and the chaos in the House of Representatives last night. I mean, I've got the TV uist. We got people Marjorie Taylor Green being one of them, and Representative Crockett I think was her name, on the other one talking about eyelashes. You know, Marjorie Taylor Green saying to the representative, well, I guess, and I'm kind of paraphrase, and I guess it was hard for you to see with your fake eyelashes that actually happens. So Hobby is going to get into that with John Decker cover it up. Also, Brad's on the show today and of course Steam Release. We got steam release covering up on the show with Hoppy as well. I think doctor Sachs is back with us now. Doctor Sachs, welcome back to the show. Thank you so much for that break in my morning. I said, you know, in the inner while we're waiting on you to call back, I said, look, if you need another reason to go to Bridge Valley, if everything we talk about, from the WIN program to all these different programs, if none of that sells you, you have a stellar fire alarm system. Oh that's true. We really do our securities top notch. Parents feel better if you're sending your kids there, or adults if you're going, all right, I want to move. I want to talk about Faster for a moment in every parent or grandparents' nightmare when it comes to financial right, there's been a lot of problems with it. Where are we on the whole faster program. It's a great question. The federal government has finally fixed their form. We're starting to get the data from them that we need for students who have submitted, which is terrific. Actually, Governor Justice did us a huge favor by declaring that state of emergency about FASPA. It's meant that we've been able to start processing at least to our financial aid for continuing students by not requiring the new form. So if you are on promise, if you were using the HEAPS grant, there's several different state grants that people are eligible for that we had we were waiting on, and this has allowed us to not have to keep waiting, So that's great. So really, I think the message that I hope people hear is fill out the FASTPA. It works now, which is terrific, and we're receiving the information and we really want students to come to school in the fall. It's a great way to be able to get the skills that you need to get a job. And we are actually seeing our transfers are way up. One of the things that's happened with all of the FASTPA trouble is that students have said and just really worried about how much college will cost. So I'm going to go to Bridge Valley for a year and then transfer back to somewhere else. And so our transfer numbers are way way up, unheard of numbers. It's like something like seventy percent this morning when I when I looked at it. That people are saying, you know, I'll put a pause on Marshall or WVU for a year and go to Bridge Valley and then make other choices. So that's also a great option. Indeed, it is before we let you go. And you've heard me say this before. One of the things that I really love, doctor Sachs about Bridge Valley is the college's universe, of the college's willingness, I should say, to work with the business community to give them the type of employees with the skill sets that the employees say they need. You've got a program with Blackhawk. The folks with Blackhawk talk about that we do. They have been wonderful supporters of the college. Blackhawk has started something that we call the Blackhawk co Op. They will hire students from our electrical program, the diesel program, the welding program. They need all of those skill sets and they'll pay students right up front like a signing bonus, and then they will give students a job. So you'll work a couple days a week at Blackhawk, you'll come to school at Bridge Valley a couple of days a week, so you have a job in the field that you actually want to be in. And they want to keep the students who go through that program, and they're really hoping you get there and you realize it's a great company to work for and decide that that'll be your career. All right, Well, information on all these things available on your website. It's Bridge Valley dot edu. I appreciate you being here, and I appreciate you being a trooper and adhering to the rules of your college, and that is to go outside when the fire alarm goes off. That's right, you go outside. I mean, was it just a drill? Everything cool? There? Do we need to send the news team there? It's real. I mean, you're welcome to come up and see how well everyone else saw it. Rules. But all right, doctor Casey Sachs, I appreciate it. Thanks a lot. We'll talk soon. Have a great day, Dave, you as well. It's Bridge Valley dot edu. If you need more information there. Don't you think for a second you're at the top of the Republican Party in West Virginia just because you are the gubernatorial nominee. Shelley telling everyone she is still in charge. I heard that coming in this morning. I thought that was kind of interesting. Tex said, isn't the Democratic Party going to put Mansion on the ballot to replace Steve Williams. I mean, they would if they actually wanted to win this. And I don't really have time to get into all this right now, but these rumors keep going around. And I was talking with a longtime politico on my drive in this morning, who was hands free, by the way, who was talking about that that there continue to be these rumors floating that Senator Mansion is not done with public life and that I need to mayor Steve Williams could rumors could could possibly remove himself from the ballot. The Democrats put Joe Manchin to run against Patrick Morrison. These rumors were going around big time in the primary, and now that the election is over. The primary election is over, these rumors continue. So I don't know, well see what happens. I do know that the Connaugh County commission has got a vacancy on the ballot and whoever the new commissioner is elected by the people in November, whether it's Chris Walters and Natalie Tennant, there's an opening though before that commissioner would take the reins. We're going to talk to one of the current county commissioners, Ben Selango, about that when we come back. The Voice of Charleston WCCHS brought to you by the Eric J. Tar Family Businesses. Eric J. All right, So first of all, you and I were talking about this, So before we get into this County Commission thing, let's got a big shout out to our to Doug's scaff you know, and everybody knows the story right now, Secretary state candidate, you know, formal legilator Doug Scaff bitten by snakes. Hopey had the story yesterday. I actually talked to Doug yesterday and it seemed this is a serious situation where all the jokes are being made and whatever. He's one of the ones making the jokes, by the way, but yeah, serious situation. But I'm holding my jokes. I'm holding all the jokes I've been coming since he texted him. He texted me eleven thirty at night. It was was it Tuesday night he was bitten? Or was it Wednesday? Oh, it's Friday, right, so today? Yeah, he texted me Wednesday night. And as soon as he texted me, I started thinking of all the jokes I'm going to say when he's better. It's too early right now, so I'm gonna wait until he's out and doing well. But we're thinking about him and yeh yeah it's bad being bitten once. But man, he got he got up. Yeah, yeah he did well. I mean copper heads, yeah, and that's been boom County copperheads too. Yeah, they're meaner than the county all right. Commission Kent Carper, of course, had his submitted his resignation last week. We won't get into all the controversy and stuff. They're all been well documented. I'm will give you an opportunity to though, to talk about the legacy of Commissioner King Carper. You know, when I when I look back on it, and Kent, Kent spent nearly forty years in public service. I mean, he was an advocate for law enforcement, for public safety, many of the things that we now see and just routine. You know, Kent Kent had worked on for years and decades and had had really done a wonderful job. I've got to tell you, I was when I came on just watching him and learning from him and how he handles like the public safety Levey and and so many different things. It was, Uh, it was eye opening. And this was Kent's you know, Ken's a lawyer, but this was Kent's job. I mean, this was this was something he really loved doing. And so you know, it's it's a it's big shoes to feel phil and you know, Commission President Wheeler and I are going to do our best. Uh, but this last year has been tough. It's been tough, you know, not just on Kent and his family, but it's been tough on the entire commission. The staff in particular and so I understand, you know, his resignation, and it's we just got to move forward. I mean, kennaugh County's got to move forward. That's it. So you know, now the process is we're gonna on the twentieth, which is Monday, we're gonna announce kind of the deadlines to submit applications and resumes and things to fill the spot. And then we're gonna have a special meeting on May thirtieth to fill the spot. And so my concern we're not gonna play I'm not playing politics, We're not playing any of these games. It's all about the stability of the commission. You know, this commission has been under a cloud for about a year and it's time to move forward. You know, we've got to make sure that we bring somebody in that's not going to play games, Somebody that can hit the ground running, that understands what it means to be a commission. A lot of people have no idea what we do, so that that's that's important to me. So we know that we'll have a new commissioner come January of next year. We know that either be Republican Chris Walters or Democrat Natalie ten of those. That's the results of the election Tuesday night. But as we've kind of been talking to tell the team of this thing is someone in the meantime has to feel the the seat held by mister Carpenter now two days ago been on this show. Natalie Tennant stated that she wanted it to be her. Oh yes, absolutely. She said that I use the term others have used like a placeholder. And this happens frequently politics. You get somebody maybe that says, look, I have no interest in this job full time, moving on. I just want to help out the county and I'll come in and I'll just then this happened as you know all the time in politics, and I'll just stick around until the new commissioner, either mister Walter's miss Tenant officially takes takes the role. Where are you on this whole thing? Well, so honestly, I've received dozens of texts that kind of comment. You know, if you need somebody to come in to fill in for whatever it is seven months, they'd be hoonder doing. And there's a lot of great people that I think are going to apply, you know, in Natalie Tennant, who's the Democratic nominee who you know did very well in the election would be a logical choice, but keep in mind the process. So the process is there's only two of us, you know, Lance and me, and we have to agree one Democrat, one Republic, one Democrat, one Republic. We have to agree on who's going to fill that sat. It has to be a Democrat that will take this. It must be a Democrat, and it must be in a Democrat who is not in a currently occupied magisterial district. So I'm in District two and Lance, I believe is District three. So it's got to be somebody from magister of District one or four. And so there are certain qualifications that you have to have in order to be able to apply. And so if Lance and I can't agree, then and the legislature changed this long. I'm not sure when it was, but I think it was fairly recently. Then the Democratic Executive Committee, since that is the party, you know, that's where the vacancy is. They submit three names, and now I'm the senior commissioner. I would strike out a name, and then Lance would strike out a name, and whoever's left is the commissioner. And this is a bizarre process. Man, I'm not gonna I just picture you and Wheeler are just sitting there, like you said, You've got a list and you're going now, no, maybe, No. It's honestly, it's the same process that you use in jury trials. It's called peremptory challenges, and you at the end of a once a jury panel called the veneer is there and you whittle it down to how many ever twelve or fourteen or whatever each side gets to start striking, they do their peremptory challenge. That's exactly what this process is. So it's, as you know, it's as old as the Constitution. What kind of I mean, I know they have to be out of the correct magisterial district, as you said, But other than that, what qualifications do they have to have in order to be a county? Are there? I mean I don't think there are any real qualifications. I think I might be eighteen years of age and just all the normal kind of stuff. Yeah, And you know, for some of that I'm looking at, I want somebody with a level head. I want somebody that is not going to get on and cause you know, issues, particularly within seven months, you know, and I don't want it to be political. I really don't want it about the Kanawh County Commission as it states right now, and not all of the other fifty four to state could say this. You guys may be different parties, you may have different beliefs in certain things, but as a whole, you guys get along pretty darn good compared to compared to what we've seen in some other counties. And you know, when I got on the commission in twenty seventeen, by the way, this was the process that we used. When I was selected in seventeen, I had to run in eighteen and I ran in twenty two. But the the process was the commissioners had to agree. So Hoppy Shores, you know, who was just an absolutely wonderful man, one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. And he's passed now. But he was a Republican and camp was a Democrat. They had to reach an agreement and they and we had public interviews back then, so everybody had to come in. You know, they asked questions. It was almost like you know, miss Usa Paget. They were asking you a question, you would give the answer, and then at the end Please don't tell me there's a swimsuit competation. No there's not. Oh god, I would have definitely lost, and then you have to then they selected me at the end. So we're in a very similar situation where you've got a Republican and you've got a Democrat and we have to reach an agreement on who we pick, and if not, then it goes to that kind of the parentery challenge section of the law where the Democrat is a community nominates three and then you do strikes. I mean you and Wheeler get along pretty well. Absolutely so. I think a lot of Commission President Wheeler. I mean he has hit the ground running when he came on. He works hard, he works really hard. I mean he's over at the Commission all the time. He's taken calls, you know, all day, all night. So he's done a wonderful job and I think he's got a very bright future ahead. Tex says till Ben. Natalie Tennant should not be appointed since she's running for that office, which could skew the election. It should be a third party. By third party, I think what they mean is somebody that's not part of the process, right, Yeah, And you know, there's a lot of people that think that, and there are a lot of people that think she should be. I mean, it's a democratic spot, it's a democratic opening, and she's the democratic nominee. I mean that's that's logical to me. But ultimately comes down and who can we agree to And I don't want it to be a big, knockdown, drag out fight. That's not what I'm looking for. And I mean this in all sincerity. I want there to be stability. We've been through a lot and I want things to be calm for a while. You're a guy that keeps up with the public, and I would say that your phone has probably been ringing off the hook, not just from people wanting the position, Ben, but people say, well, I think this person would be the best person. That person absolutely, I mean there's a lot of that going on. And I remember, I remember when I was that person that was calling back in twenty seventeen and I went down to Hoppy Shores Insurance Agency and his lovely wife Bronson looked at me and she said, Ben, why do you want this job? She was like, are you crazy? And God, I love Bronson? But and so that's gonna be a question. Why do you want it? Why do you want to fill in? Why do you want to do this? What are some of the questions you're going to ask these people? But what do you want? We're not going to do public interviews. I think that one, you know, but for a variety of reasons. I think we're going to have people submit and then maybe and Lance and I will talk about this on on May twentieth. If they if they want to come and make a comment, that's fine. But I think because I remember when I was selected, I looked around and the people who weren't I felt bad. It was like a public spectacle, right and they were in there and they were getting grilled. I mean, some of the questions are that they asked back in seventeen were hard and they were very pointed. And I don't want to do that to people, and I don't think Commission President Wheeler does either. And I don't want to make a big public spectacle. My goal is to uh to make sure that the Commission is stable, that we're all working together, and that we move forward. And then whoever is elected in November and takes office in January, I'm gonna work with whoever that is. I've known Chris Walters for a long long time. I've known Natalie Tennant for a long long time. So we'll see how that shakes out. Final old text before we let you go is, Dave, I put all my trust in Lance and Ben to do the right thing. We have the best commission in the state. Keep it local. I appreciate that, I really do. And you know, a big part of that was the way that we all got We all get along and commission former Commissioner Carper and Commissioner Shores and Commissioner Hardy, and you go back to Duke Bloom and many before. They're the reason for that. There's a reason why fifty four other county commissions look to us to see what we're doing. Particularly during COVID, you know, we were we were kind of setting the example the City of Charleston, and the A. Kund Of Commission was stting example and people were following what we were doing. And so there's a reason for that because we had decades and decades of experience on the commission and now you know, we've just got to we've got to make sure that we're making smart choices and we're moving forward. All right? To me, I said, I was going to leave with that one, but there's one other question, and then I promise we'll let you go. Give me thirty seconds. In this Texas? Does the commissioner support the removal of the current name of the public Safety building and the renaming of it? Why would we Why would we do that? Commissioner Carper was not charged with anything. Apparently they didn't have enough evidence to charge him or they would have. It went on for a year. Why would we do that? Commissioner Carper, he did a lot for this county and the last year has been tough. But he was never charged with anything. He didn't get a parking ticket. I mean, so you want to strip somebody's name off a building. No, I'm not in favor of that. All right, we'll leave it there. We'll be in touch man. Thanks a lot, Thank you, County Commissioner Ben Selango. It is nine to fifty two back after this. So the voice of Charlestonchs brought to you by the Eric Jtar Family Businesses. Eric J. We help many local shelters here, locally and out of state. We pull from high kill shelters to keep babies from euthanasia. I love the way that you refer to them as babies too. They are babies. Yeah. Yeah. Also people who listen to the show on a regular basis. No, I'm not much for people, but I do like animals. I like it. How long have you been involved in animal kind of stuff, Robert Well? I started working a shelter at twenty fourteen and then kind of retired from there. But that I've been doing all my life and been pretty good with animals. I got a green paw, that's a good way to put it. What is it about animals and that God? Because everybody's involved in something something that they care about. What is about animals for you? Well, for me, it's like you've heard the extent the saying that the more I meet people, the more I like Amazon. That's basically what I just said. Yeah, they give your heart their love unconditionally, and just there's so much abuse and neglect it seemed like going on. So that's what we're all. We actually had a text earlier in the show, and I had Hannah on from the Humane Association. Somebody was talking about the amount of stories that we keep hearing here in the Kanaal Valley about dogs and cats being abandoned in things of that nature, and I just told the story. We had one of our folks here at the station whose son found a kitten a dumpster yesterday. But he's okay, the kitten is okay. They're trying to get it adopted. There are far too many of these stories out here, far too many. Yeah, we've had a couple of dumpster babies ourselves. Last year. We found two one week apart, one female baby about four weeks old a week later, one male baby. They looked identical about a year and a half ago from the little Caesars on Patrick Street plaza and their dumpster. It was pretty safe to say that the same person did it week apart, and they were from the same litter. The vet even agreed, So they're they're in great homes now and that's living the good life. We always, we always hope for a happy ending. Let's talk about this event again to marguing again, time and place and things of that nature, and can can people still get involved that they can't make it tomorrow? Yes? Absolutely. It starts at noon tomorrow. It's going to be noon to three. You can sign up when you get there at Joplin Park in South Charleston. Kids twelve and under are free, and you are invited to bring your pet. Absolutely sure, welcome. We actually had a text about that earlier and I can't seem to find it right now. Somebody wanted to know if there would be pets available there, and so will there be any pets available for adoption there? We are going to have one special baby there that is looking for his forever home. He did come to us as a very very rare and special case. He was born with an autoimmune disease. His name is Kati and he was surrendered to us by his breeder owner at seven weeks old because he was literally on his deathbed. And he is doing well now, has been cleared by the vet, he's fully vetted, and he is looking for his forever home. So he is going to be there with us as well. Okay, the text I was referring to was somebody asking about the South Charleston Armed Forces Day Parade if there would be pets, and that I'm actually going to be in part of that with one of our sister stations. I'll be taking part in that tomorrow, so I don't know the answer to that. Bottom line is there's gonna be a lot of stuff going on in South Charleston as we wrap it up, guys, It all happens tomorrow.
