- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Now this is a hypnosis session
- 0:44all about two things. It's about releasing shame and
- 0:47judgement, but it's also about unleashing a new level of self
- 0:52acceptance. And this session was created for
- 0:54a client that in their past were overweight, but as a result of
- 0:59losing a lot of weight in a relatively short period of time,
- 1:03it meant that they had loose skin.
- 1:06And more importantly, they had certain emotions that they felt
- 1:10were linked to the idea of rejection.
- 1:12Because when they were young, they felt rejected based on
- 1:15their body shape, that they weren't accepted or acceptable.
- 1:20Now the problem is, is that if as a young person you learned
- 1:25that in order to be accepted you're going to use control to
- 1:28change things, then actually you've seen the positive tool
- 1:33that dissatisfaction and shaming yourself can actually create.
- 1:39And there are some people that are advocates of fat shaming
- 1:42because they feel it's motivation.
- 1:45I disagree. I think it's completely possible
- 1:47to accept yourself as you are and still have a desire to
- 1:52change something, in the same way that you can be grateful for
- 1:55your life and still desire to make your life even better.
- 2:00But most people don't think that way.
- 2:01Most people believe that in order to make a change, they
- 2:05have to create so much dissatisfaction in order to
- 2:09create the motivation to create that change.
- 2:12And it can work. But here's the thing, it can
- 2:15work if you are actually able to vary the variables.
- 2:20So if you can eat less and exercise more, and that's what
- 2:23this client did to lose the weight, but loose skin is
- 2:26different. That requires a different
- 2:29strategy. So this requires an element of
- 2:32self acceptance. So it starts with them imagining
- 2:35themselves in swimwear on a beach and two different versions
- 2:41of them. A version of them that is losing
- 2:44in self acceptance but their body looks exactly the same and
- 2:48the other carrying lots of shame and insecurities.
- 2:53Now bearing in mind that they are still the same person with
- 2:56exactly the same body features, it's just one version of them
- 3:00has more self acceptance and the other has more insecurity and
- 3:03shame and they get to see what their life would be like if they
- 3:07let go of that shame and had more self acceptance.
- 3:12Now there is a a great way of believing that if you accept
- 3:16yourself as you are then your self esteem goes up and that's
- 3:20true, but that doesn't mean that you can't you desire to make
- 3:24certain changes. For example, this client, even
- 3:27though they had loose skin, certain parts of their body,
- 3:30they could utilize things like gaining more muscle mass to
- 3:34change not only their body composition and their
- 3:37confidence, but also how their skin is in proportion to their
- 3:41body. But again, it does not require
- 3:44shaming and dissatisfaction in order to build muscle.
- 3:47You can do it from a place of inspiration, aspiration, and
- 3:51growth rather than shaming. So if there is a part of you
- 3:56that you don't like, you're dissatisfied with or that you
- 3:59feel ashamed of certain parts of your body, the kind of thing
- 4:02that you wouldn't like people to see, for example, or you hide A
- 4:07mask or you hope that people don't bring it up, this session
- 4:10could be for you. It's mainly based on the body
- 4:15shape and the loose skin, but it could be based on anything at
- 4:19all, so you can make it fit for your circumstances.
- 4:22And if you like the idea of a more bespoke session actually
- 4:25customized to you and your situation, have a look in the
- 4:28show notes. There's lots of free resources
- 4:31there. Free downloads, free guides,
- 4:33free courses and also the ability to have a consultation
- 4:36call with me as well. For now though, I'd like you to
- 4:40find a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 4:43disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:16Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 5:26feeling of pure relaxation, and as you exhale, feel a wonderful
- 5:36feeling of release, not just releasing tension, but releasing
- 5:46anything else, any heavy expectations, any feelings of
- 5:56dissatisfaction. Allow the outward breath to be
- 6:02the release valve and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 6:13wonderful feeling of acceptance. Imagine a colour that represents
- 6:22self acceptance, bright colour. And as you breathe in, imagine
- 6:30breathing in that bright vibrant colour of self acceptance and as
- 6:39you exhale, release any feeling of inner judgement.
- 6:50Everyone judges, but sometimes judgements can be harsh and
- 6:57unfair. Every single thing that exists
- 7:05could be judged in entirely different ways.
- 7:16I want you to imagine someone with a scar could be judged as
- 7:21unlucky or ugly, as a hero or a victim.
- 7:31And I want you to imagine. Imagine an animal like a puppy
- 7:41and just imagine but if that puppy was born without one leg.
- 7:53Some people would perceive that puppy to be even more cute or
- 8:01adorable, while others would perceive it to be deformed and
- 8:10not even have a right to exist. So when you breathe in that self
- 8:18acceptance, I want you to imagine unlocking the lens of
- 8:26self acceptance that perceives who you are through a lens of
- 8:35positive evaluations. The moment a perceived floor
- 8:48becomes an attribute of a wonderful quality like
- 8:54determination, empowerment, then suddenly it loses all of its
- 9:03power to create shame, to create dissatisfaction.
- 9:13So as you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine a
- 9:21public beach. And I'd like you to imagine
- 9:30there you are, and you have two different versions of you.
- 9:41Imagine a version of you oozing in confidence and self
- 9:48acceptance. Your body shape is exactly the
- 9:52same, but that version of you fully accepts every part of your
- 10:02body shape. And then imagine another version
- 10:09of you, riddled with insecurity, feeling that everyone will
- 10:20judge, look, stare, comment or mark.
- 10:30And in both cases it's exactly the same version of you.
- 10:36The only difference is 1 version has full self acceptance and the
- 10:44other has 0 self acceptance. And I want you to imagine both
- 10:52versions of you go down to the public beach only with swimming
- 11:01shorts on. But I want you to observe how
- 11:08differently they interact with the environment.
- 11:13That confident version of you, brimming with self acceptance.
- 11:20See that version of you smiling as they walk down the beach,
- 11:25playing in the water, maybe jogging or just lying in the
- 11:31sun. But the other version of you
- 11:37tries to hide in places where fewer people would be, doesn't
- 11:44move around so much. And I want you to create a
- 11:51perception. A perception that these emotions
- 12:01create self fulfilling prophecies.
- 12:07The version of you with full self acceptance feels that
- 12:14because they accept themself, other people accept them too.
- 12:21They notice the smiles, the eye contact, words of friendliness
- 12:27or positivity, but observe the version of you filled with
- 12:34insecurity, fear of judgement, self shame.
- 12:42That version of you will pick up on any looks of disapproval.
- 12:54That version of you will pick up on facial expressions avoidance.
- 13:07I want you to get a sense then how you feel about yourself
- 13:13creates the world around you, and the more you believe that to
- 13:21be true, the truer it becomes. So just imagine seeing both ends
- 13:31of the spectrum, one enjoying the beach, 1 tolerating the
- 13:36beach, 1 interacting with other people, the other avoiding
- 13:43people, and both are possible for you.
- 13:51The version of you filled with self acceptance does not pretend
- 13:58they are perfect. Self acceptance does not mean
- 14:02perfection, it just means that they accept who they are for
- 14:09what they are and it doesn't limit them from wanting to
- 14:15improve. But they can improve from a
- 14:19place of progress not to suddenly be good enough.
- 14:29Growth through progress and improvement feels different to
- 14:35exactly the same progress that comes from the stick of
- 14:41dissatisfaction. Some people believe that they
- 14:48can only be happy when they get to their destination.
- 14:53Others happily travel to the same destination, and I wonder
- 15:02what your unconscious would rather do.
- 15:08Be happy one day when you meet some arbitrary rule or standard
- 15:14as to what is acceptable, or to consider yourself already
- 15:21acceptable with a desire to eat well?
- 15:26Exercise to evolve from a position of progress and self
- 15:32improvement, not from a place of self loathing.
- 15:39And as you imagine, looking at both versions of you there on
- 15:42the beach allow your mind to take you even deeper, relaxed.
- 15:52That's it. I want you to feel that you're
- 16:02unconscious. Your body is not under attack
- 16:07anymore. Allow the muscles in your face
- 16:11to relax, your shoulders to soften, and the abdomen all the
- 16:18way round to your hips to be allowed to be just as they are.
- 16:29And notice as you breathe in and breathe out slowly.
- 16:36You are in your body. You are not on trial in your
- 16:42body when you say, drift back in time to that version of you when
- 16:50you were just 18 years old. See how you looked, your body
- 16:57shape. Observe a moment where you felt,
- 17:06then rejected, unwanted. I want you to see the expression
- 17:16in your face. At some point that young brain
- 17:24of yours added 1 + 1 and came up with three.
- 17:33A thought, a seed of an idea was planted.
- 17:39I'm not acceptable as how I look now, and if I change my body
- 17:46then I can earn acceptance. The belief wasn't weakness, it
- 17:54was adaptation. A craving for love, connection
- 17:59and approval. And all that weight loss that
- 18:04followed wasn't vanity, it was a craving for connection.
- 18:11It was survival. So with that new perspective,
- 18:17take a moment now to acknowledge the intelligence of that
- 18:22response. That body did what it thought it
- 18:26had to do to protect you from emotional pain.
- 18:35And imagine that younger version of you standing in front of you.
- 18:38Now they're on the beach. Notice their effort, their
- 18:42determination, their hope that changing the body would finally
- 18:49create safety and acceptance. But I want you to let them know
- 18:56the reality. They don't have to be accepted.
- 19:06They don't have to earn love. I want you to tell that 18 year
- 19:13old version of you they can accept themselves 100% and still
- 19:21have a desire to change it. Dissatisfaction is not required
- 19:30for change. I want you to go forward in time
- 19:38when they've lost that weight and see them with the loose
- 19:42skin, remaining body fat, the marks on their skin that
- 19:51represent that change and tell them they are not evidence of
- 19:57failure. They are evidence of history, of
- 20:03effort, of resilience. Their body isn't unfinished,
- 20:11it's experienced. And that shame, that quiet,
- 20:17corrosive voice, was never your own voice.
- 20:24It was a perception of your own insecurities, of what others
- 20:30would think or say. And imagine returning that shame
- 20:37to where it belongs. Not with anger, just with
- 20:42clarity. Just imagine sending it floating
- 20:48out there on the ocean on that beach.
- 20:54I want you to imagine a full length mirror there on that
- 20:57beach, still observing that self accepting version of you and the
- 21:04insecure version of you, and knowing that you're somewhere in
- 21:06between for now. And imagine looking at yourself
- 21:14in that full length mirror, seeing your waist, the abdomen,
- 21:19the thighs, and instead of evaluating, measuring, judging,
- 21:28you simply acknowledge this is my body, it's not my enemy and I
- 21:42accept it 100%. And I want you to feel the
- 21:49difference between acceptance and giving up.
- 21:55Acceptance is not defeat. Acceptance says I stop attacking
- 22:03myself and growth says I choose to care for myself.
- 22:12And when they work hand in hand, they are not opposites, they are
- 22:18partners. Rather than having to choose
- 22:23acceptance or control, you can embrace both.
- 22:29Accept yourself fully, control your behavior, your thoughts to
- 22:38improve yourself from a place of progress.
- 22:44And I want you to feel from this place.
- 22:47Motivation feels different. Movement becomes appreciation.
- 22:55Nutrition becomes respect. Training becomes collaboration.
- 23:03Not punishment, not correction, but communication.
- 23:13I want you to feel that when you choose to exercise, you feel
- 23:17like you're investing in yourself.
- 23:21And when you choose to eat high nutrition meals, you're saying
- 23:27that you value your quality of life.
- 23:33And when you really feel connected to your mind and your
- 23:36body, I want you to feel that you are truly listening to
- 23:42yourself. And I want you to imagine a
- 23:47future now. A future of self acceptance with
- 23:54a desire to make slow, steady progress, and that body that
- 24:02feels accepted responds faster than a body under criticism.
- 24:11That your progress accelerates when it's no longer blocked by
- 24:16shame, and that future version of you stops chasing a body to
- 24:24fix the past and starts building a body that supports the future.
- 24:31And I want you to feel a quiet sense of pride begin to emerge.
- 24:40Not pride in your appearance, but pride in your integrity.
- 24:48Someone that accepts themselves fully while still evolving.
- 24:55That is emotional maturity, that is ownership, and from this
- 25:07moment forward, any improvement you make comes from self
- 25:12respect, not self rejection. Your body becomes a partner in
- 25:19growth, not a reminder of pain. Those two versions of you on the
- 25:29beach start to return and you get to decide which one
- 25:37integrates with you. The version of self acceptance
- 25:44or the version that uses insecurity as a stick to
- 25:53motivate you through pain. When you're ready to choose
- 25:59which one you integrate with, let me know by nodding your head
- 26:02and allow that version to come back into your body.
- 26:13And now you look at yourself through the mirror.
- 26:18You look at yourself through their eyes, full of self
- 26:23acceptance and the other version of you.
- 26:27They're still there on the beach, still hiding in the
- 26:34shadows. It's time to return to the
- 26:39present. But I want you to get a sense
- 26:44then any rejection and pain is no longer in you.
- 26:52It's in that other version of you there on the beach.
- 26:57What comes back when I count from one to 10 is a version of
- 27:02you that feels light aligned and full of self acceptance.
- 27:11That's it. Take a deep breath in through
- 27:13your nose and out through your nose.
- 27:19Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes.
- 27:20Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 27:25from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 27:31Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 27:40Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910 Wide awake,
- 27:45Wide awake. Wide awake.
