- 0:02Speaker 1: As promised. There he is Pete Fairbanks. Welcome back to
- 0:05Speaker 1: the show. Friend of the program. Of course, I understand
- 0:08Speaker 1: sir that you are quite the lego connoisseur. For those
- 0:12Speaker 1: of us not caught up on this, tell us more.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Well, yeah, as you can this more of my son
- 0:18Speaker 2: right now, I've had to steal his room. My in
- 0:21Speaker 2: laws and dad are both in town, so they've taken
- 0:24Speaker 2: up most of my house. But I decided, in a
- 0:26Speaker 2: bit of shameless pandering for AJ, that we would go
- 0:29Speaker 2: set my backdrop as all of my son's half torn
- 0:33Speaker 2: down lego sets.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Before we get into legos, first of all, what is
- 0:37Speaker 3: that hat you have on? Because I don't know if
- 0:39Speaker 3: you if your son made that for you in kindergarten,
- 0:42Speaker 3: er what but what?
- 0:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's my Western Hydrodynamic Research hat. Found it in Toronto
- 0:49Speaker 2: a couple of years ago. They use a little a
- 0:51Speaker 2: little bungee cord as the the uh, I don't know
- 0:57Speaker 2: what you technically call that. Instead of a snapback, it's
- 1:00Speaker 2: an elastic back, but it's still got a hole on it.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:04Speaker 3: And then my next question is, before we get into
- 1:06Speaker 3: the rays, how do you say with the name on
- 1:08Speaker 3: your shirt, because I've had arguments with this many people.
- 1:11Speaker 4: The name on your shirt? How do you say it?
- 1:13Speaker 2: You say it is Kith?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Are you sure?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Well? How do you say it?
- 1:17Speaker 3: I've been I used to say Kith, and now I've
- 1:19Speaker 3: been told it's Kith from numerous people.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Well, maybe it is. I'm not a New York or so,
- 1:26Speaker 2: maybe I got it wrong.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Who are your sources.
- 1:33Speaker 4: My sources are people that are in the fashion world. Alana, No,
- 1:37Speaker 4: I'm definitely not.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't even know what that is.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I don't know because I've heard it said both ways.
- 1:45Speaker 3: My son calls it Kith, and then I was talking
- 1:48Speaker 3: about that I don't know who is somebody along the
- 1:50Speaker 3: way and they were like, no, it's actually Kithe and
- 1:51Speaker 3: I was like, oh, which one is it?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Is this a brand?
- 1:56Speaker 3: I am a very popular brand with teenagers to like
- 2:02Speaker 3: college age, like fifteen to thirty year old. It's actually
- 2:05Speaker 3: an unbelievable store in New York.
- 2:07Speaker 2: If you go there, right, they've got a pretty good
- 2:11Speaker 2: you got a pretty good store. I don't know. Maybe
- 2:16Speaker 2: it's you know, it's a tomato. Maybe it's a tomato
- 2:19Speaker 2: tomato type situation and it's oh, I made fun of
- 2:23Speaker 2: my mother for saying Missouri. When I say Missouri, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 2: maybe it's one of those deals.
- 2:29Speaker 1: All right, here it goes. The brand name Kith is
- 2:31Speaker 1: pronounced kith with a short eye sound like in kit
- 2:34Speaker 1: and a hard t h sound like in think or thin.
- 2:37Speaker 4: There you have it, You have it? Okay, how do
- 2:42Speaker 4: you doing?
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm great? I want to know if the kithe pronunciation
- 2:49Speaker 2: was was created by somebody that wanted to sound way
- 2:52Speaker 2: more posh than they actually worked. Was the only thing
- 2:54Speaker 2: I probably was on that.
- 2:57Speaker 4: You know, since everyone's taking shot it's a Ken Rosenthal,
- 2:59Speaker 4: we'll just blame him. How's that? We'll just playing.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Poor guy? Talk about it, Pete Camanaro, a bright spot
- 3:10Speaker 1: of your club coming in hot?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, homers, lots of homers on every pitch type in
- 3:17Speaker 2: just about every location, and he will find a way
- 3:20Speaker 2: to uh put it out of the yard. I think
- 3:23Speaker 2: he hit a what was it a Porter Hodge heater
- 3:26Speaker 2: and then followed that up with a down and away
- 3:30Speaker 2: splitter the next day. I mean, the guys, the guy's
- 3:33Speaker 2: covering it all. And when you can cover it all and
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, swing it, what doesn't seem like one hundred
- 3:40Speaker 2: percent and still hit a ball at one hundred and
- 3:42Speaker 2: ten miles an hour. I think he's doing something right.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Why does the national media not know more about Junior
- 3:49Speaker 5: Camanaro because you guys have been you guys were as
- 3:52Speaker 5: close as two games out of the wildcard race. In
- 3:55Speaker 5: this dude's just hit his forty fourth homer. He's got
- 3:57Speaker 5: over one hundred steaks and he young. It's not like
- 4:01Speaker 5: he's like a mid to late twenties kind of in
- 4:04Speaker 5: the prime. He is not a rookie. But why does
- 4:07Speaker 5: the national media not know more about it?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Well, if I had the hazard to guess, I would
- 4:15Speaker 2: say it's because we don't play in a giant media market.
- 4:18Speaker 2: And you knows, as the world works, the people that
- 4:25Speaker 2: play in the bigger markets are going to get the coverage, right,
- 4:28Speaker 2: That's what drives it. And you know we might be
- 4:33Speaker 2: at victim to that at times, but you know, I
- 4:35Speaker 2: think the people that love and appreciate the game of
- 4:38Speaker 2: baseball are all over Junior Cambinara.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Hey, Pete, how what's it like in Steinberner? Are used
- 4:46Speaker 4: to the schedule now?
- 4:47Speaker 3: Are used to the schedule because you guys played all
- 4:49Speaker 3: the home games early and they you've been on the
- 4:51Speaker 3: road for the last three months. You do have a
- 4:53Speaker 3: home series now against the Jay's, But has it been
- 4:55Speaker 3: different for you guys playing most of the second half
- 4:57Speaker 3: on the road.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the the three week or three not
- 5:03Speaker 2: three weeks, felt like three weeks. The sixteen day or
- 5:06Speaker 2: whatever it was. Rody was crazy. But we kind of
- 5:09Speaker 2: settled back into a fairly normal schedule to where it's,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you know, a week at home or ten days at home,
- 5:16Speaker 2: ten days on the road, et cetera. You know, so
- 5:18Speaker 2: we've kind of settled back into you know, your normal,
- 5:21Speaker 2: your normal baseball schedule, and you know, we're hoping that
- 5:26Speaker 2: this rumored hold front here is going to stay around
- 5:28Speaker 2: for a couple more days.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Mister fair panks Pepio is returning from body fatigue. I
- 5:34Speaker 1: mean I have that every day and I don't pitch.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Please explain to me what body fatigue is and how
- 5:39Speaker 1: that works its way into a picture's repertoire at this
- 5:43Speaker 1: point in the season.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think we all have body fatigue, right,
- 5:50Speaker 2: I think that there's just a there's just a point
- 5:52Speaker 2: where you know, to push it out there and try
- 5:57Speaker 2: and throw eighty five to one hundred pit is when
- 6:00Speaker 2: you're already you know, run down past your your normal
- 6:03Speaker 2: recovery point would be a you know, a detriment to
- 6:07Speaker 2: both yourself and you know, being you know, the good
- 6:11Speaker 2: teammate that that pep is. I think the the call
- 6:15Speaker 2: to you know, skip a start, you know, let the
- 6:17Speaker 2: body get back to what it normally is and not
- 6:19Speaker 2: have to, you know, worry if each you know pitch
- 6:23Speaker 2: was going to cost him, you know, more than it
- 6:25Speaker 2: needed to. I think is a very wise choice. You know,
- 6:29Speaker 2: we're excited to have him back, I think tomorrow or
- 6:32Speaker 2: the next day at full strength. But yeah, it's you
- 6:35Speaker 2: get tired. It's a long season. There are a lot
- 6:37Speaker 2: of games, and you know, sometimes you don't recover as
- 6:40Speaker 2: well as you do other times.
- 6:43Speaker 5: When you watch across the American League East and you
- 6:45Speaker 5: see what Eraaldus Chapman is doing as a closer, not
- 6:49Speaker 5: just for this season, but you've spent the majority of
- 6:52Speaker 5: your career as a closer, he's almost only been a closer.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Do you look at those adjustments and you say, wow,
- 7:00Speaker 5: I have so much more in the tank for myself
- 7:04Speaker 5: because I've essentially just been in the recent years a
- 7:08Speaker 5: closer and got those guys are taking care of a
- 7:10Speaker 5: little bit differently.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think it speaks to him and
- 7:15Speaker 2: his willingness to you know, adapt, right, Like obviously he's
- 7:21Speaker 2: still the most elite velocity arm that the game has seen,
- 7:25Speaker 2: but you know, to watch him dial it in really
- 7:29Speaker 2: with you know, the fastball command and then throwing both
- 7:32Speaker 2: the splitter and the slider, throwing two fastballs, et cetera. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 2: just to watch how he's taking care of himself and
- 7:41Speaker 2: you know, been able to adapt and tweak the repertoire
- 7:44Speaker 2: as has been I mean amazing. He've been doing it,
- 7:47Speaker 2: what for like thirteen years at this point something like that.
- 7:53Speaker 6: OKAKP, this is your first arena club experience. We're going
- 7:56Speaker 6: to open this slab pack together. So first off, we're
- 7:58Speaker 6: gonna buy one of those twenty five dollars slab packs
- 8:00Speaker 6: and we get to see what is in the pack.
- 8:03Speaker 2: There.
- 8:03Speaker 6: It is the Grail, which is the best card in
- 8:06Speaker 6: the pack and worth the most. There are some other
- 8:09Speaker 6: cards that we're chasing, and you can see the entire
- 8:11Speaker 6: lineup so that you know what you're in the running for.
- 8:13Speaker 6: There's the Yamamoto signed card. Now let's open up our
- 8:17Speaker 6: pack and see how we do we have ourselves a
- 8:22Speaker 6: really cool graphic and then a show heyo Tawani fifty
- 8:28Speaker 6: to fifty card from last year. What do you want
- 8:30Speaker 6: to do? Should we sell it right back to them
- 8:32Speaker 6: for sixteen or should.
- 8:33Speaker 2: We keep it? You should give it to me, I'll keep.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Good answer, fine, I will give it to you. Since
- 8:40Speaker 6: the Blue Jays didn't geto Tani, you can get this
- 8:42Speaker 6: fifty to fifty card instead and use the code foul
- 8:45Speaker 6: foul to get yourself twenty percent off your first slab
- 8:48Speaker 6: pack or card purchase. Yes, you get to keep that
- 8:50Speaker 6: card if you want it. They send it to you
- 8:53Speaker 6: foul at Arena club dot com slash foul Pete.
- 8:55Speaker 4: You close out the game on Saturday, all right against
- 8:58Speaker 4: the Cubs. It wasn't.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It wasn't the easiest game you've ever closed out. There
- 9:02Speaker 3: was some there was some kookiness in there. But I
- 9:04Speaker 3: want to tell you the story. I was sitting in
- 9:05Speaker 3: Pat Murphy's office. He had your game on. It was
- 9:08Speaker 3: first and third, no outs. I think you had a
- 9:10Speaker 3: one run lead, and Pat Murphy just looks up and goes,
- 9:12Speaker 3: this son of a gun is gonna blow this game
- 9:14Speaker 3: isn't he? And I'm like, nah, have faith in Pete? Okay, Pat,
- 9:18Speaker 3: calm down. And then you got out of it and
- 9:20Speaker 3: you got to say, how nervous do you get when
- 9:22Speaker 3: things start going like that? Do you get nervous? Is
- 9:24Speaker 3: your mind start going crazy? Or how do you how
- 9:27Speaker 3: do you keep calm?
- 9:30Speaker 2: I mean, in that instance, I think I kind of
- 9:32Speaker 2: sabotaged myself because I got distracted watching us try and
- 9:36Speaker 2: pack on an insurance run with the TV sitting there
- 9:38Speaker 2: right in the Redley Bolton then finish in my last couple.
- 9:43Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean Dansy had it right at bat right,
- 9:45Speaker 2: and you know, as you try harder and harder throwing
- 9:48Speaker 2: it bat, you know, you kind of can can get
- 9:51Speaker 2: outside yourself. But we had a you know, a good
- 9:54Speaker 2: visit from Snides was able to execute a few to
- 9:59Speaker 2: sew and you know, watch a great rundown get executed
- 10:02Speaker 2: by Camion and mister Fortees behind the dish and then
- 10:07Speaker 2: I mean shout out to his shin guards that can't
- 10:10Speaker 2: seem to stay together, because it gave me, you know,
- 10:12Speaker 2: another couple of breaths and then we really started executing
- 10:14Speaker 2: after that.
- 10:16Speaker 5: What are you suggesting that, Nick, Fortes. Wasn't his shin
- 10:21Speaker 5: guards didn't stay together or was that all above water?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Oh? They definitely broke because he is fast. He's very fast.
- 10:30Speaker 2: He is also first. Yeah, I mean I haven't seen
- 10:34Speaker 2: a catcher hawk down somebody like that. I don't know
- 10:37Speaker 2: if ever, but yeah, he was. I met a great
- 10:42Speaker 2: three step off the blocks and hawked him down pretty quick.
- 10:47Speaker 5: You talked about being nervous, or AJ asked you about
- 10:49Speaker 5: being nervous. You talked about family being in the house.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Right now, Who of your family or friends gets the
- 10:56Speaker 5: most nervous when you come in the game, Because when
- 10:58Speaker 5: I played, I know the wives of relievers would show
- 11:02Speaker 5: up late and if their husband was down, they wouldn't
- 11:06Speaker 5: even show up to the game at all. Where the
- 11:07Speaker 5: position player wives are like, I gotta keep coming to
- 11:11Speaker 5: all these games. Who gets the most nervous of your
- 11:15Speaker 5: family or friends when you're in those situations?
- 11:21Speaker 2: I gotta say my grandmother because she so my grandparents.
- 11:28Speaker 2: My dad's parents are retired. They live in Arizona, and
- 11:32Speaker 2: my grandpa watches every game that He's probably watched every
- 11:37Speaker 2: anthing I've ever thrown at any level, regardless of professional, amateur, etc.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But my grandmother will not watch and will wait until
- 11:47Speaker 2: it's over, and my grandpa goes and tells her how
- 11:51Speaker 2: things went before. She will then go and watch it
- 11:53Speaker 2: because she's too nervous, anxious, whatever to actually watch it
- 11:57Speaker 2: as it's happening.
- 12:00Speaker 5: That's cute.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It was very cute, all right. So you guys have
- 12:04Speaker 1: a big series against the Blue Jays, Pete. If you
- 12:06Speaker 1: guys win this series, it could make things a little
- 12:10Speaker 1: kookier than what they already are. What are you playing
- 12:13Speaker 1: for right now? What are you guys pitching for? What
- 12:15Speaker 1: are you playing for?
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm planning to win today and then win tomorrow, and
- 12:20Speaker 2: win the next day and keep on winning, right, I think,
- 12:23Speaker 2: you know, and that's been kind of what I've said
- 12:26Speaker 2: at any opportunity, right is that we're not you know.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I think the times where we have gotten big picture
- 12:32Speaker 2: and kind of gotten out of you know, focusing on
- 12:36Speaker 2: let's do what our job is today, you know, I
- 12:39Speaker 2: think that that lends itself to a view that you know,
- 12:41Speaker 2: things can can spiral on you if you're you know,
- 12:45Speaker 2: not being where your feet are and really doing your
- 12:48Speaker 2: best to control the things that you can. Right, So
- 12:51Speaker 2: we're going to do out there and we're going to
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know, continue to try and play, you know, the
- 12:56Speaker 2: game that we play well, and you know, the chips
- 12:58Speaker 2: are going to fall where they do. Things going to
- 13:00Speaker 2: happen however they may. But our job is to focus
- 13:04Speaker 2: on what we can do to win the game that day,
- 13:08Speaker 2: you know, and not get a week ahead or two
- 13:10Speaker 2: weeks ahead, et cetera, but to just be where we
- 13:13Speaker 2: are and try and go in some ball games.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I'm going to give you a bigger picture question, because
- 13:19Speaker 5: you're right in it now. How much better or worse
- 13:23Speaker 5: would it be right now if there was two or
- 13:26Speaker 5: three more playoff spots, if two or three more teams
- 13:29Speaker 5: would be getting in, how close you guys were, how
- 13:33Speaker 5: much would it water it down? Or would you be like, man,
- 13:36Speaker 5: that was such? That's what we need because we're because
- 13:39Speaker 5: as a player, you're in it and you're giving everything
- 13:41Speaker 5: you have every single day, and as a fan, you go,
- 13:44Speaker 5: well should this team be in? Should that team be in?
- 13:47Speaker 5: How do you feel about it? It's being in the
- 13:49Speaker 5: spot right now?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, I mean, I don't know. Right there's
- 13:54Speaker 2: the positives and negatives to both sides of you know,
- 13:59Speaker 2: and even more expanded field versus you know, kind of
- 14:03Speaker 2: some of the historical races that you know, you see
- 14:06Speaker 2: like the twenty eleven Rays, right with that free team
- 14:08Speaker 2: one that went down, you know, even when there was
- 14:10Speaker 2: just one wild card spot. So yeah, I mean, I
- 14:13Speaker 2: think it's a double edged type of thing of you
- 14:17Speaker 2: don't want to incentivize being at you know, five hundred
- 14:21Speaker 2: but making the playoffs. But you also, you know, especially
- 14:26Speaker 2: in you know, a sport like baseball, which is kind
- 14:28Speaker 2: of i'd say similar to I don't know, maybe hockey
- 14:32Speaker 2: in terms of how the luck distribution can play out
- 14:35Speaker 2: in it where you might see, you know, teams that
- 14:38Speaker 2: you wouldn't expect make deep runs that you know, snuck
- 14:41Speaker 2: in at eighty four and eighty or eighty five and
- 14:43Speaker 2: seventy nine.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Can you guys be that team? You got some let
- 14:50Speaker 4: time left, I want to know before we let you go,
- 14:52Speaker 4: can you guys be that team?
- 14:54Speaker 2: I don't see why not. We've we've had as hot
- 14:57Speaker 2: as hots and as cold as colds. So yeah, I mean,
- 15:01Speaker 2: I don't see any reason that you know, we don't
- 15:04Speaker 2: have the capabilities to roll off nine in a row,
- 15:07Speaker 2: obviously do We didn't set ourselves up in a great
- 15:10Speaker 2: spot to you know, not have to do that, But
- 15:14Speaker 2: like I said, we're gonna try and and went on
- 15:16Speaker 2: Monday night and then see where we go from there.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Have you seen Cashi?
- 15:20Speaker 5: Have you seen Kevin Cash get pissed during the coldest
- 15:23Speaker 5: of colds? Or is he the quintessential same guy every
- 15:29Speaker 5: single day?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Now? Cash is pretty much cash, regardless of you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: being in the midst of a ten game heater or
- 15:37Speaker 2: five in a row on the wrong side, it's you're
- 15:41Speaker 2: gonna get what you get, and it's there's not a
- 15:42Speaker 2: whole lot of deviation in that.
- 15:46Speaker 5: All.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Right before we let you go.
- 15:47Speaker 3: There's a lot of guys in the big leagues that
- 15:48Speaker 3: are into legos, Okay, me and myself included. But since
- 15:52Speaker 3: we talked about your shirt and we talked about your
- 15:54Speaker 3: hat rate this outfit on a one to ten basis,
- 15:57Speaker 3: so we're about to show you.
- 16:05Speaker 2: That. I mean, that's that's pretty good. I wish you
- 16:08Speaker 2: had done the wasn't the one where he ends up
- 16:11Speaker 2: on like the giant pillar underneath him? I mean, maybe
- 16:13Speaker 2: that's the only thing that could have been better out
- 16:14Speaker 2: of that. I mean, that's pretty good. Did you have
- 16:17Speaker 2: a trackle with you too, or was.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It just my son had it on his back, he
- 16:22Speaker 3: had the piece of the Resistance. That was a long
- 16:25Speaker 3: time ago. But yes, and by the way, I made
- 16:27Speaker 3: that hat by myself, no out of paper or poster
- 16:34Speaker 3: board or whatever it was. I don't know what it was,
- 16:36Speaker 3: but it had to be able to be wearable.
- 16:39Speaker 2: It had to be Maybe maybe that's what's keeping it
- 16:41Speaker 2: from being a ten. That's brutal. That's brutal.
- 16:45Speaker 4: That's brutal. I'm just saying, like, until you get a
- 16:48Speaker 4: Halloween costume better than that.
- 16:49Speaker 3: And then my other rest of my family was also
- 16:52Speaker 3: that's the fur only picture I had. But yeah, I
- 16:55Speaker 3: thought that was a pretty good Halloween costume they got.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I played for the Cardinals because I had a red
- 16:58Speaker 3: helmet to put underneath that thing.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean that's Pretty's better than any
- 17:04Speaker 2: of the costumes I've rolled out there, So it's at
