- 0:36Speaker 1: hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 2: Richard Kay. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 2: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 2: us each day as Richard shares from God's Word notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 2: and stories, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 2: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 2: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 2: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 2: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 2: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 2: program anytime online at talknetworkradio.com. Well now, here's Richard with
- 1:22Speaker 2: today's reflection.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I say then, walk by the Spirit, and you will
- 1:28Speaker 3: not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the
- 1:33Speaker 3: flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit
- 1:38Speaker 3: desires what is against the flesh. These are opposed to
- 1:44Speaker 3: each other, so that you don't do what you want.
- 1:49Speaker 3: But if you are led by the Spirit, you are
- 1:53Speaker 3: not under the law. There is a passage that we
- 1:59Speaker 3: read in regards to this war between the spirit and
- 2:06Speaker 3: the flesh, or as we've described, the old nature of man.
- 2:14Speaker 3: You see, believer, our old nature has a means of
- 2:20Speaker 3: being able to motivate us. It will cause us in
- 2:26Speaker 3: many ways to believe in many cases a lie. We
- 2:34Speaker 3: can be deceived because we listen to our old nature
- 2:41Speaker 3: and its desires. There is a scripture which I think
- 2:47Speaker 3: is appropriate when we talk about dealing with the spirit
- 2:54Speaker 3: and the old nature. When we talk about how we
- 2:59Speaker 3: are actually in a battle, but as we are shown
- 3:07Speaker 3: that we are walking in a fleshly manner, because it says,
- 3:14Speaker 3: for although we are walking in the flesh, we do
- 3:19Speaker 3: not wage war in a fleshly way. since the weapons
- 3:24Speaker 3: of our warfare are not fleshly, but are powerful through
- 3:29Speaker 3: God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and
- 3:35Speaker 3: every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge
- 3:40Speaker 3: of God, taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Now,
- 3:50Speaker 3: this is found in Paul's letter to to the Corinthian church,
- 3:56Speaker 3: the 10th chapter of 2 Corinthians, and it begins with
- 4:01Speaker 3: the third verse, continuing through the fifth. The one thing
- 4:08Speaker 3: about this particular passage that is so important is that
- 4:13Speaker 3: the weapons of our warfare are not of the old nature,
- 4:19Speaker 3: but they are powerful through God. For the demolition, some
- 4:25Speaker 3: versions say the pulling down of strongholds. We demolish arguments
- 4:33Speaker 3: and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the
- 4:38Speaker 3: knowledge of God. Now, believer, listen to this part. It
- 4:43Speaker 3: says taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
- 4:51Speaker 3: What is this really saying to us? Well, it is
- 4:55Speaker 3: saying that our thoughts will actually become our deeds. You see,
- 5:05Speaker 3: if we continue to follow the old nature, our thoughts
- 5:10Speaker 3: will lead us into the results of the old nature.
- 5:16Speaker 3: If we follow after the spirit, then we will have
- 5:24Speaker 3: thoughts that are from the Spirit. There are two factions
- 5:32Speaker 3: at war within. One is the self-life. The other is
- 5:40Speaker 3: the Spirit-filled life. We've already discussed the desire to be
- 5:48Speaker 3: full of the Spirit. But now we see that one
- 5:52Speaker 3: of the greatest hindrances to being full continually of the
- 5:58Speaker 3: Spirit of God is our own old nature, which for
- 6:05Speaker 3: some has not been crucified. Remember the scripture that we
- 6:11Speaker 3: read that is in an earlier portion of Galatians, Galatians 2.20.
- 6:18Speaker 3: where it actually states in the Amplified Version, I have
- 6:23Speaker 3: been crucified with Christ. That is, in Him, I have
- 6:29Speaker 3: shared His crucifixion. It is no longer I who live,
- 6:34Speaker 3: but Christ lives in me. The life I now live
- 6:39Speaker 3: in the body, I live by faith, by adhering to,
- 6:43Speaker 3: relying on, and completely trusting in the Son of God
- 6:48Speaker 3: who loved me and gave himself up for me. You see, believer,
- 6:56Speaker 3: if we have actually become possessed, and I'm talking about
- 7:02Speaker 3: possessed by the Holy Spirit, we are going to recognize
- 7:11Speaker 3: very quickly anything that deviates from the truth. There are
- 7:18Speaker 3: some lies which are presented in such a way that
- 7:23Speaker 3: they become believable. And because of that, we actually tend
- 7:30Speaker 3: to lean towards the belief of the lie. We need
- 7:35Speaker 3: to know when something that is being said or done
- 7:41Speaker 3: is not of God. We talked about discerning of spirits. Well,
- 7:48Speaker 3: we know that we want to be able to know
- 7:50Speaker 3: when the devil is actually at work. Discerning of spirits
- 7:55Speaker 3: is important. It is vital to us being able to
- 8:00Speaker 3: determine demonic influence. But what about deliverance from the flesh,
- 8:07Speaker 3: deliverance from our old nature? These are the things that
- 8:13Speaker 3: daily we must deal with. we have to allow the
- 8:19Speaker 3: Holy Spirit to completely crucify those areas of our life.
- 8:28Speaker 3: And because of that, we should be quickly, obviously noted
- 8:36Speaker 3: that we brought every thought into the subjection of Jesus Christ. Believer,
- 8:46Speaker 3: Let me give you an example. Today, we live in
- 8:50Speaker 3: a very chaotic world. We have people that are constantly jockeying,
- 8:57Speaker 3: if you will, for power. They are looking at what
- 9:02Speaker 3: they rule. And in so many ways, we have been
- 9:07Speaker 3: led to follow them. Now, I'm not speaking of a
- 9:12Speaker 3: particular individual. But I am speaking of a particular practice.
- 9:20Speaker 3: The practice is that anything that exalts itself above God
- 9:28Speaker 3: is sin. If we do anything that exalts us above God,
- 9:37Speaker 3: that to us is sin. How do we do that?
- 9:42Speaker 3: Let me give you a good example. Suppose that you
- 9:48Speaker 3: are given an opportunity and that opportunity will provide great
- 9:55Speaker 3: reward here on earth. But it will cause you to
- 10:02Speaker 3: sacrifice eternal purposes in heaven. Think about that for just
- 10:11Speaker 3: a moment. Where could that be applied? Well, I can
- 10:17Speaker 3: certainly tell you that in the business world, it is
- 10:21Speaker 3: very easy to spot. You see, we can serve this
- 10:27Speaker 3: world and its system. We can serve its methods. We
- 10:33Speaker 3: can even keep ourselves in a position where we think
- 10:39Speaker 3: our goals and plans align with God. But I can
- 10:44Speaker 3: tell you from personal experience that That is not always
- 10:50Speaker 3: the case. Now, I'm not speaking of when God gives
- 10:56Speaker 3: us a task and we are supposed to complete that task,
- 11:01Speaker 3: whatever it may be, and it will bring glory and
- 11:06Speaker 3: honor to him. That could be in our workplace. It
- 11:12Speaker 3: could be in our church. It could be in our
- 11:16Speaker 3: neighborhood or church. It could be in the community at large.
- 11:21Speaker 3: But wherever it is, if it is God doing the
- 11:26Speaker 3: work through us, then it will bring glory to him
- 11:31Speaker 3: and others will be drawn to him. If it brings
- 11:36Speaker 3: glory to us, then it is no longer a work
- 11:44Speaker 3: that he proclaimed. And it's very easy for us to
- 11:50Speaker 3: confuse the difference. Sometimes we are led by self-improvement gurus
- 11:58Speaker 3: to do things that will pattern our life after someone
- 12:04Speaker 3: else's success. And that's not to say that there aren't
- 12:10Speaker 3: logical means of being able to achieve certain things. But
- 12:15Speaker 3: the life we now live, we live totally surrendered to
- 12:21Speaker 3: the will of God, to the Holy Spirit that leads
- 12:25Speaker 3: and guides us into all truth, so that the fullness
- 12:30Speaker 3: of God can be evident in us and others will
- 12:35Speaker 3: see Jesus. It is so critical that we cannot allow
- 12:42Speaker 3: ourselves to be drawn in to the world's method, because
- 12:49Speaker 3: the world's method is at enmity with God. But Jesus said,
- 12:56Speaker 3: be of good courage, for I have overcome the world.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Jesus gives us the same power to overcome the world
- 13:09Speaker 3: and its ambitions, everything that it offers. And in many ways,
- 13:15Speaker 3: it offers what we are drawn to. We are actually
- 13:22Speaker 3: victims without knowing that it is our own old nature
- 13:30Speaker 3: that is driving us towards that end. We do not
- 13:35Speaker 3: want to be victims of our own old nature. Believer,
- 13:42Speaker 3: we want to be totally possessed, possession of the Spirit
- 13:50Speaker 3: of Almighty God. We want to be devoted to, surrendered to,
- 13:57Speaker 3: and available for His use, regardless of what it may cost.
- 14:05Speaker 3: It could cost us fame, fortune, or accomplishment, but that
- 14:11Speaker 3: is of little significance if it doesn't bring glory to him.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 14:21Speaker 2: But if you just joined us, you've been listening to
- 14:23Speaker 2: Reflections on the Word with Richard Kay. You can hear
- 14:26Speaker 2: this message in its entirety again online, as well as
- 14:29Speaker 2: Richard's entire archive at talknetworkradio.com. We would like to acknowledge
- 14:35Speaker 2: our theme song, How Great Is Thy Faithless, from the
- 14:38Speaker 2: America's 25 Favorite Hymns album. Unless otherwise expressed, scriptures are
- 14:43Speaker 2: read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, which is published
- 14:47Speaker 2: by Holman Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee. Additional resources used
- 14:52Speaker 2: for reflections on the Word with Richard Kay include Great
- 14:56Speaker 2: is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread and printed by
- 14:59Speaker 2: Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard to wrap up
- 15:03Speaker 2: today's message.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Our life is not our own. We are bought and
- 15:12Speaker 3: purchased by His precious blood. And because of that, we
- 15:18Speaker 3: have no means of looking for our own desired result.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Our desire should be to glorify Him. And believer, there
- 15:34Speaker 3: are so many things that the world offers. In fact,
- 15:40Speaker 3: it has been said about the church in our society today.
- 15:47Speaker 3: It was said by a noted evangelist, and yet it
- 15:52Speaker 3: has probably been repeated by many. And that is this statement.
- 15:59Speaker 3: The church has become so worldly, and the world has
- 16:05Speaker 3: become so churchy, meaning so much about religion, but about
- 16:12Speaker 3: nothing that has to do with condemning or putting to
- 16:19Speaker 3: death the works of the old nature. The world has
- 16:24Speaker 3: become churchy and the church has become worldly, and it's
- 16:29Speaker 3: very difficult to know the difference. I want us to
- 16:36Speaker 3: be known for the difference. Believer, surrender everything you have
- 16:45Speaker 3: and everything you desire to the will of God. Don't
- 16:51Speaker 3: allow the enemy to influence you with thoughts that your
- 16:57Speaker 3: achievements bring glory to God. Only what God can do
- 17:03Speaker 3: through us will bring glory to his name. Ultimately, Our
- 17:11Speaker 3: sole purpose is to bring glory to Him. And that
- 17:19Speaker 3: is today's Reflection on the Word.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 17:27Speaker 2: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 17:29Speaker 2: Richard Kay. For Richard and the entire team, this is
- 17:32Speaker 2: Chuck Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition of
- 17:36Speaker 2: Reflections on the Word.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Great is thy faithfulness,
- 17:48Speaker 1: Lord unto me.
