- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. I'm so ready to learn more Swahili. Lucas: Great. Today we're going to talk about something we all love — hobbies. Things we do for fun. Luna: Oh, that sounds perfect. I love talking about hobbies. Lucas: Yes. And if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Swahili, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo makes a real difference. Luna: Absolutely. Every little bit helps us keep making episodes like this for you. Lucas: Okay, let's dive in. The first hobby phrase is 'Ninasoma' which means 'I read'. Luna: Ninasoma. I read. That sounds straightforward. Lucas: Yes. Ninasoma. Repeat after me. Ninasoma. Luna: Ninasoma. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to say 'I play soccer', you say 'Ninacheza mpira'. Cheza means play, mpira means ball or soccer. Luna: Ninacheza mpira. I play soccer. I love that one. Lucas: Perfect. Now, 'Ninasikiliza muziki' means 'I listen to music'. Sikiliza means listen, muziki is music. Luna: Ninasikiliza muziki. I listen to music. That's a good one. Lucas: Now, a very useful question: 'Unapenda kufanya nini?' means 'What do you like to do?' Penda means like, kufanya means to do, nini means what. Luna: Unapenda kufanya nini? What do you like to do? That's a great conversation starter. Lucas: Exactly. So let's practice a little dialogue. Imagine I ask you, 'Unapenda kufanya nini?' Luna: Oh, okay. I would say 'Ninasoma' or 'Ninacheza mpira' or 'Ninasikiliza muziki'. Lucas: Right. Let's do one together. Unapenda kufanya nini? Luna: Ninasikiliza muziki. Lucas: Ah, that's nice. I also love listening to music. So you could say 'Mimi pia ninasikiliza muziki' meaning 'I also listen to music'. Luna: Mimi pia ninasikiliza muziki. I also listen to music. So pia means also or too. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's review all four phrases. First, Ninasoma. Luna: Ninasoma. Lucas: Ninacheza mpira. Luna: Ninacheza mpira. Lucas: Ninasikiliza muziki. Luna: Ninasikiliza muziki. Lucas: And the question: Unapenda kufanya nini? Luna: Unapenda kufanya nini? Lucas: Perfect. Now you can ask someone about their hobbies and share your own. Luna: This is so useful. I feel like I can actually have a little conversation now. Lucas: You can. Practice these phrases, and we'll be back with more. Until then, keep speaking Swahili. Luna: Yes, keep practicing. See you next time!
