Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:19Hey friends, thank you so much for tuning in for watching, listening, and sharing got
- 0:24a great guest.
- 0:25Gerald Chamley is back with us.
- 0:27What a blessing.
- 0:28She just took two trips to Israel at least within the last several months.
- 0:34And if you're not familiar with her work, first of all, amazing books, we'll get to that
- 0:38in a minute.
- 0:39But she's an online opinion editor, commentary writer, and host of the Bold and Blunt podcast
- 0:45for the Washington Times and a frequent media guest public speaker.
- 0:50The author several books, like I mentioned, I want to go over to her Amazon page, God
- 0:53given, or bust, socialists, don't sleep, one of my favorites, love the subtitle.
- 1:00Christians must rise, or America will fall, a lot of truth to that.
- 1:05Lockdown, there's another one of her books, and Chloe.
- 1:09Cheryl, so good to see you.
- 1:10Thank you so much again for your time today.
- 1:13David, I love being on your show, so good to see you too.
- 1:17Praise God.
- 1:18Welcome.
- 1:19I'm glad you made it back safely.
- 1:22How much I want to ask you, including, you know, safely, where you, at any time, were
- 1:28you concerned about the danger in places you were at in Israel, in one of your two trips,
- 1:34you start with your first trip if you want to.
- 1:38So I went to Israel twice in the last couple months, and no, I wasn't concerned about
- 1:44my personal safety.
- 1:47Most and foremost, I'm sort of that journalist who would love to run into a war zone to
- 1:52do kind of old, so there is that stupid angle.
- 1:56But really, really, if you go to Israel, you will see that they do security well.
- 2:02It's not like here in America where it depends on where you live and which political party
- 2:07is in charge.
- 2:09In Israel, no matter the political mindset, it's all about safety and security.
- 2:14And I felt safer there than I do walking in some city streets in America, especially
- 2:19at night.
- 2:21So your first trip was that the one that was with Newsmax, or was that your second trip?
- 2:28So my first trip in August was with Newsmax.
- 2:31It was a delegation of Newsmax.
- 2:33My second one in September was the American Middle East Press Association, and two very
- 2:41different trips, in some respects.
- 2:43The Newsmax one was a lot more high-profile political.
- 2:48I met with Benjamin Netanyahu, very briefly, the president, her song, Mike Huckabee, got
- 2:57to chat with him for a little bit, and some IDF officials.
- 3:02The second trip was a little bit more on the ground, meeting with behind scenes, high-ranking
- 3:10military officers to get the real skating on the World War.
- 3:14So let's talk about, if you can share, some of us would love to have been there to meet
- 3:19some of the people you did and have some of those conversations, because there's so much
- 3:24going on with the U.S. and Israel, President Trump and Office, different administration now
- 3:28in our relationship to Israel.
- 3:31I'm sure you probably kept it light, though, with Benjamin Netanyahu.
- 3:34Tell us a little bit about that interaction.
- 3:37Well, that was very quick, that was snap of photo, shake a hand, it was more of a photo.
- 3:45The real interesting discussions came, the president, Herzog, he actually fielded questions
- 3:51from journalists, and he spent almost an hour with us, so that was interesting.
- 3:56But the real interesting facts came with the IDF soldiers and the high-ranking military
- 4:03officers, because they were the ones that tell you, behind closed doors, exactly what's
- 4:08going on.
- 4:10Well, we've had a few pastors on, one or two of them, in fact, are working with the IDF,
- 4:16and we've been learning a lot, as far as a lot of them don't even have the equipment necessary
- 4:22to fight a war, and so some of their families, I guess, by parts of the uniform, this is
- 4:27really astounding when you think about it.
- 4:29And so some of the pastors, Brandon Holthaus, is one of them, they go over there and they're
- 4:33helping the IDF get equipped, because there's so many that they're calling up now.
- 4:40Can you tell us a little bit about that?
- 4:42Yeah, actually, I would love to talk about some of the things that you never hear about
- 4:48in the media, because I think it would be really interesting for your viewers.
- 4:53The reference you make to the supplies and manpower drain, there is a move of foot in Israel
- 5:02to have those who are exempt from service in the military, because, of course, in Israel,
- 5:08everybody serves for at least two years, except certain members of the Orthodox faith,
- 5:15certain members who, because of their faith, and because that's how they spend their time,
- 5:23furthering their faith, they're exempt from service, and so there are moves of foot to bring
- 5:29them under the regulation and have them serve two years as well. As you might expect,
- 5:35there is some backlash from the Orthodox Jewish community, so we'll see where that goes,
- 5:40but they're fighting so many wars at the same time. This isn't simply Hamas, there's Hezbollah,
- 5:47there's the Houthis, Irania actually even kicked in, and so these are long-running wars,
- 5:53and it's not just on Israel's behalf, it's on all of civil societies behalf around the world,
- 5:59so they do need equipment and they really do need manpower.
- 6:04Explain that, we hear a lot, we were talking very briefly before we got on the podcast,
- 6:10that Israel's a satan, a size of New Jersey, we hear that all the time, but we forget the geography
- 6:16there, they're surrounded by a coalition of enemies who want her destruction, most of which
- 6:21want to wipe her off the map, and you're right, they're fighting on so many fronts, can you explain
- 6:26the geography and anything else you'd like to share? Yeah, let's talk about the geography really
- 6:32quickly, because I think everybody has heard the analogy, it's comparable to the size of New Jersey,
- 6:37but stand on the border of New Jersey and throw a rock as far as you can, and that's where Israel's
- 6:44enemy stand, right? I visited one kebuts in the northern community, if you look down the hill,
- 6:50the enemy's right there, Hezbollah, they watch them, they watch them digging, and then they watch
- 6:56them, as they run their bulldozers along the road, they watch them assemble, and as you might
- 7:03imagine that kebuts was abandoned for over two years, and people are just starting to come back
- 7:10into the area, but that doesn't mean their enemies have gone quietly into that good night,
- 7:15right? They're right there, and so that is the issue with Israel, when you're fighting your
- 7:21enemies, you're fighting people that in some instances are actually working in your own community,
- 7:28because the Jewish people, unlike Hamas, unlike the Palestinians, unlike the people of Gaza,
- 7:34they open their doors and welcome those from Gaza into their community to work,
- 7:40to improve their economic situation, and then those people go back at night across the border,
- 7:46back to Gaza, but the same can't be said for the Palestinian people, allowing the Jewish people
- 7:53to enter their borders, so it's a very difficult, complicated situation, and when you're talking
- 7:59simply about the geography, you have to realize the enemy is right there, and they're allowed to
- 8:07walk anywhere they want to in Jerusalem, and you really can't tell the difference by looking at
- 8:12them. They don't wear t-shirts saying, I'm a Hamas terrorist, right? They just are.
- 8:18And they purposely dress like civilians sometimes, and we've heard some of the horrific stories.
- 8:26One of the things I wanted to ask you, you've got to, over on your Bold and Blunt podcast,
- 8:31you did one recently, starving in Gaza, don't blame Israel. I know a lot of our viewers and
- 8:39listeners are fed up with the media and the lies and propaganda, including college campuses,
- 8:47but that's all another story. So can you share a little bit more about anything you saw when you were
- 8:53there or what you talked to on that podcast? Sure, so don't believe the headlines, you should be
- 9:00fed up with the media, because the media is doing a horrible job of reporting the truths and
- 9:06accuracy, and especially the context of what's going on with Israel's war against terrorists,
- 9:11right? Remember, this started because Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Everybody would
- 9:19be living in peace right now had Hamas not attacked. So everything that comes after is a consequence
- 9:27of Hamas' actions. And Hamas, by the way, was duly elected by the people of Gaza, by the Palestinian
- 9:36people. So to say that, oh, there's Hamas, and then there are the poor innocent civilians of Gaza,
- 9:42that's a question mark. Who exactly is innocent there? If you elect people to eradicate the Jewish
- 9:49people from the face of the earth, doesn't that make you part and parcel of the guilt, right? So
- 9:55when you talk about the starving people of Gaza, the UN is doing a terrible job of getting a
- 10:03to the people in Gaza. 80 between 80 and 90 percent of their aid drops are intercepted,
- 10:10usually by Hamas. And so in effect, the United Nation is helping the terrorists stay fed and
- 10:18medically treated and so forth. So there's another organization that started in May, and not only
- 10:24is this organization, the subject of my most recent podcast, but I also had behind scenes meeting
- 10:31with their leading officials as well in Israel. It's called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
- 10:37And what they do is they have a different model about feeding the people of Gaza, the so-called
- 10:43civilian population of Gaza. They don't just bring in big truckloads. They break the food down into
- 10:49you know, smaller parcels that a family has to stand in line and pick up and bring back home.
- 10:56And these parcels will last maybe up to a week depending on the size of the family. That makes
- 11:02it much more difficult for Hamas to just come in and steal all this food because then they would
- 11:08have to steal thousands of packages of food instead of just a big truckload. So there are hungry
- 11:15people in Gaza. You can't deny that. But again, it was brought on by Hamas. And second off,
- 11:22there are so many aid organizations that are helping feed these Palestinian people that they're
- 11:27not mass starvation. So what, I know this is a speculation. I'm asking you to speculate here.
- 11:37What percentage of Americans do you think are getting the real news about what's happening there?
- 11:44You know, I'm just going to take a guess, a stab in the dark. It's maybe 10 percent, right?
- 11:52Yeah, it's really difficult, right? Because the mainstream legacy media, okay, 50, 60, 70 percent,
- 12:00you can just say that they are outright lying, outright drawing moral equivalencies where none
- 12:06exists between Hamas and the Jewish people. And then you have the other side of media,
- 12:13you know, 20, 30 percent of media that truly wants to do a good job in reporting. But they don't
- 12:19have people on scene. They don't have people there. So it's very difficult to cultivate the sources
- 12:26you need in Israel to get the truthful facts to the American people. And what convulates the
- 12:33process further is that the UN puts out all this data and supposedly fact-based reports.
- 12:40But they get their information from Hamas and Hamas backed organizations. So it's extremely
- 12:47difficult. And that's why I say 10 percent. We could do a better job if we had more people on the
- 12:55scene, but we don't. So obviously the Washington Times is a good source. Can you direct our viewers
- 13:03and listeners to maybe a couple of other places that they can get more the truth and good
- 13:09information about what's happening in Israel? I would go directly to Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
- 13:16if you want to know how the aid directed over there. And I would also go to social media,
- 13:24particularly acts. If you go there and you check out the IDF and you check out the Prime Minister
- 13:32and the President, the official websites of politicians and governing officials and aid
- 13:38officials in Israel, you will be able to get a lot closer to the truth of what's taking place.
- 13:45Then if you just read through the New York Times or the Washington Post.
- 13:49Okay. What about all Israel news, Jerusalem post, any of those?
- 13:54So when I want fat-based Israel news from the Israeli sources, I go to JNS. That's the Jewish news
- 14:04syndicate. I know the guy that runs that and he does a very good job of reporting the truth.
- 14:10You can go to the Jerusalem post as well. And there are some Israel sources. Israel 365 is another one.
- 14:20But you can go to the Israel press as well and get some more accurate figures.
- 14:26Okay. Thanks, Cheryl. We're going to shift gears in a minute here. But one to ask you,
- 14:31you're probably very informed more so than a lot of people in America, a lot of our viewers,
- 14:37a lot of people in the church. When you went over there, either one of your trips,
- 14:41is there one thing that stands out that really surprised you or that you didn't know? Is there
- 14:48one thing or maybe two things you can think of? Yes. And thank you for that. So I knew this,
- 14:54but I just did not know the level of this. What surprised me was just how far the IDF
- 15:01goes in order to ensure the safety of the so-called Palestinian civilians, even while
- 15:08ignoring them, that they can't tell the difference between the civilians and the terrorists.
- 15:14I mean, these are people that air drop flyers before they're going to target for strike a certain
- 15:20area in Gaza. In order to give the civilian, that's an air quotes again, population, the opportunity
- 15:27to flee the area. In some instances, even sending in trucks to help expedite physically these people
- 15:35from the area. And so the Jewish people do not get credit for that. In the press, what happens
- 15:42is Hamas puts out propaganda photos with made up captions and made up narratives. And then those
- 15:49become the so-called truth of the so-called atrocities that the IDF is inflicting.
- 15:57So let's shift gears now because this is going by fast with you as I knew it would.
- 16:01You did a recent Bold and Blunt podcast post-Charlie Kirk. The pews are filling. And you said an
- 16:10interesting outcome from the assassination of Charlie Kirk is that churches around the country
- 16:14are reporting increases in attendance, especially among the youth. We've seen a lot of,
- 16:19I mean, I've seen stuff on social media, people putting out a little video. I've never been to
- 16:22church before or I haven't been to church since, you know, I was 10 and they're going to church
- 16:27they're buying bibles. I hope this will be sustained to Cheryl. But what are your thoughts on
- 16:34just where we're at after that horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk? Yeah, the big question,
- 16:42right, David, is what will this last? You know, because if you're back in time September 11th,
- 16:47right, we all came together as a nation and Nancy Pelosi with Republicans on Capitol Hill and
- 16:53saying Kumbaya and all that. And then what a week later it was back to attack Republicans again.
- 17:01So the idea of youth particularly in America reacting to Charlie Kirk's horrific murder
- 17:10by going to church gives me great optimism, especially when you look at the the simultaneous
- 17:16polls that show youth racing socialism, right? Because socialism to me is an outgrowth
- 17:23of a secularized population. So if youth continue to go to church then there is great
- 17:31cause for cheer and joy for the future of America because faith is so closely tied to liberty here.
- 17:39But I got to say I'm a little bit, I don't want to say cynical, I'm just more realistic. I don't
- 17:45mean sustain. In part because I don't think the churches have really come back to being the bold
- 17:54voice that they're supposed to be biblical truths. I think too many churches have gone down that
- 17:59sort of woke, softened, watery type of Bible teaching path and they haven't turned back yet.
- 18:07Agreed. We talk about that all the time, secret sensitive churches and lukewarm churches.
- 18:14And my question is always what's it going to take? And we don't know. We thought maybe something
- 18:19like this, young brother and Christ Charlie Kirk being assassinated for just speaking the truth.
- 18:26I want to go back to something though and talk about this. I remember when I think Bernie Sanders
- 18:30was run against Hillary, they were doing surveys then and I think about 60 some percent of youth were
- 18:36supporting Bernie Sanders and they were favoring socialism. And I know you wrote a lot about that in
- 18:42your books. In fact, socialists don't sleep. Hello. But what about we're seeing this younger
- 18:47generation that seemed to be more interested or maybe there's a hunger for truth. Maybe the
- 18:53freedoms we have in America. I don't know. How do you put these two things together and understand
- 18:58where we're at right now, Cheryl? It's something that I want very closely, the explosion of
- 19:04socialism, which is to say Marxism and Communism in America. And on one hand, what you said, you know,
- 19:12that there is some room for optimism here. But then I think it was just a week, a week and a half
- 19:21ago, I did a story based on another poll that just came out that showed a majority in America of
- 19:28youth would vote for a socialist for president. And then, you know, it's one step forward, two steps
- 19:35back. And honestly, the clear answer here is the future of America is aligned with the ability
- 19:45of Americans to go back to church. It's not so much in our political spectrum. Our political
- 19:52state will win freedom for the long term. It's in our faith as Americans. Amen. I'm very encouraged
- 20:00by the growth and the expansion, the explosion, I might say, of Turning Point USA, the number of
- 20:07requests for chapters, high schools, and colleges. So I hope they have enough resources to handle
- 20:14the traffic they're getting. It's really encouraging. But there's a problem, as you say, is it
- 20:20how much of it is is ignorance? How much of it is young people who really don't understand what
- 20:25socialism is? Yeah, you know, there's a good argument that could be made to say that half
- 20:33these kids will upgrow their socialism face as they become independent adults because, of course,
- 20:41children, right? Children are sort of natural socialists. Why can't everybody get along? Why
- 20:46can't money grow on trees? And that kind of thing. And then it's only when you move out of your
- 20:51parents' home and have to buy socks and trash bags and food. And then you see the cost and the
- 20:58repercussions of political actions on your own life, on your own economy, that you suddenly start
- 21:04to see the sense of more conservative type of policies and economics. So I think that there is
- 21:11a case to be made, but even if it's 50%, I don't want any socialism in America. I don't think any
- 21:17socialist belong in our political system. And so until every last self-declaring declared
- 21:24open socialist is out of politics, I wouldn't stop. Are you concerned? I was going to go there,
- 21:31but are you concerned about what might happen with New York?
- 21:36Yeah, what a disaster. Yeah, and you know, I'm not so much concerned about it. It's one thing to
- 21:43be concerned about the city itself, right? That's bad enough. But what I don't like is the larger
- 21:48picture that the more socialist run openly in America, the more socialism as a viable governing
- 21:56structure in America becomes okay. And then socialism is just a slower sister of communism,
- 22:02right? So what's next? In a decade, open communists are going to be running?
- 22:07Crazy. Okay. So along the lines of the assassination and the rhetoric of the media,
- 22:13I've been so upset that even after something like an assassination, two attempts on Trump's life,
- 22:19and then the assassination of Charlie Kirk, first of all, the reaction of some, and I know it's the
- 22:25minority, but there's enough people that are openly celebrating someone's death in that. That
- 22:29was eye-opening, I think, to a lot of people. But what about the media and prominent Democrats who,
- 22:35they're not backing off on the rhetoric, fascism, you know, Trump is a threat to democracy,
- 22:41Charlie Kirk was hateful. So whatever you believe, whatever I believe, from the biblical worldview,
- 22:46Cheryl, there are people that call that hateful. And if we talk about it, that's hate speech. This
- 22:51is where we're at. And you wrote an article on Antifa. Antifa first Democrat party next when,
- 22:58you know, the president labeled Antifa a terrorist organization. But let's talk about the fact that
- 23:05there is no accountability. And we can't expect the rhetoric to change, unfortunately. And this
- 23:12is a disturbing place to be when you think about the media and people that have all the loud voices,
- 23:17right? Cheryl, what are you thinking about that? Yeah, so this is where the belief that we are in
- 23:25a battle against principalities, right? Not flesh and blood comes into play because I've watched
- 23:30the Democrat party for a very long time now devolving to this sort of lunatic fringe where they just
- 23:36welcome the biggest liars, the biggest violent thugs of the community. And they embrace them as if,
- 23:45you know, they, they're just exercising their first amendment freedoms by throwing bricks. So
- 23:50I look at today's Democrat party as being driven by demonic forces. And to me, that explains and
- 23:57clarifies everything. And you just can't expect that when someone is being influenced by demonic
- 24:05force, that there's going to come a time where they say, you know what? You're right. Why don't I
- 24:09just lay down my bricks and just engage in, you know, polite political persuasion once again?
- 24:15And we'll come to a common, you know, a common solution that's not going to happen. And who knows
- 24:22better than Christians, right? Because we know that it's only going to continue to get worse and
- 24:26worse and worse, the closer we draw to the, to the time of Jesus's return. It's so hard sometimes
- 24:35to respond like Jesus would. And it is hard to respond like a Charlie Kirkwood very respectful
- 24:41and never hateful when people who were threatening him and criticizing anyway, I think we can all
- 24:47learn from from that. But a lot of people I think are very disappointed that this is where we're at.
- 24:53And Christians, you made a great point. Thank you for bringing it back to the spiritual warfare is
- 24:58real. It's probably not going to get any better. And I just hate the word compromise when it comes to
- 25:04politics or reaching across the aisle because now we're talking about contrasting worldviews,
- 25:11not just political parties. Your thoughts on that, Cheryl? Yeah, that's a great point, right? Because
- 25:17I think our side conservatives or Christian side for far too long now have been willing to
- 25:26cooperate and reach across the political aisles because, you know, our sides filled with the idea
- 25:32that if we only engage in a proper persuasive argument, we can convince the other side. Well,
- 25:38that's not what we're dealing with any longer. And it's very difficult if you don't see
- 25:43certain political entities as being part and parcel of an evil design that you're going to
- 25:50constantly but heads thinking that with the proper talk, you can convince them. You cannot make
- 25:56deals with the devil and come out on top. That's something Israel has had to learn with Hamas,
- 26:02that's something that Americans have to learn with the Democrat Party.
- 26:06Oh, I love that. Quoting you, you cannot make deals with the devil and come out on top.
- 26:11Because this is very real friends and we're seeing the warfare. Obviously, it's not,
- 26:16they're not even hiding it anymore. They hate they have. And there are minions, right? They're a
- 26:20children of God. And then what Christ, an anti-Christ, the Holy Spirit, and they are of a different
- 26:27spirit. So, Cheryl, do you have any books coming out? You're always writing something.
- 26:31I know articles on Washington Times. Any books you're working on?
- 26:36So I've pivoted a little bit to my fiction and my Chloe's People Series. I have Chloe out
- 26:43out and I'm working on the third right now. This is Christian fiction, but it's not
- 26:50it's not your hallmark special type of Christian fiction.
- 26:54Well, I think that's good. I think people need a break from the real news sometimes. But
- 26:59I really appreciate what you do in your voice and I wish there were more of you. Then we could
- 27:04really take the air quotes off of journalists with there are more of you. But anyway, God bless you
- 27:10and Lord willing, we'll do this again in the near future. Thank you.
- 27:13Love to thank you, David. God bless.
- 27:15You're welcome. All right, friends, Washington Times.com. You can look up Cheryl. She's got on Facebook,
- 27:20Instagram, and her books on Amazon. Thank you so much for sharing the podcast again.
- 27:26You are keeping us going. I had no idea when we started this thing.
- 27:31What's been happening here with the new studio and just praise God for what he's doing.
- 27:36But thank you and keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
