Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Alright, episode two.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: This was another AMA live on TikTok.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: It got a little bit weird today.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: TikTok live is absolute madness.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: But it's super fun.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I think we had some useful stuff discussed there.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, enjoy.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: There was one moment where TikTok tried to cancel me because I was reading out a username of somebody.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So please don't read into that.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: But um uh beyond that, enjoy.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Here is episode two in AMA about social media marketing, baby.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: It's funny, TikTok's very bold.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: It's like things are really heating up, you've got five viewers.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: This is really kicking off here.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So um if you have any social media remat social media questions to do with your personal brand, with your business, just drop them in the chat there and I can uh try and answer those for you.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: But um I'm this is only my second one of these, and it is very strange.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Looks like I've got a few people on there.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Mira, you said before, can I help you?
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Ah, what's the from Mira?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Mira, I'm just gonna say your profile picture is basically you or where it fits.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Where are you from, Mira?
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Because that does look like an OnlyFans page that you're running there.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: No shade, but that looks like what you might be doing.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Um what's the best way to go viral?
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Uh well, look.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: There's just a certain point.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Um sorry, TikTok's just giving me this thing, whoever's made this interface is really annoying.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: There's just a whole lot of things coming at me on the screen.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, you're from Oz.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: What's the best way to go viral?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Um look, you can try to keep try and plan to go viral.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: There's a whole lot of ways, but going viral isn't actually that useful.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Jumping on trends is good, like getting things that are really shareable into people's group chats is how you kind of go viral.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: It's like the real relatable stuff, like relationship stuff really works.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and I guess my question back to that would be well, why do you want to go viral?
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Because if you're just going viral for attention in general, then okay, cool, that might fill the void in your life.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But I care more about um actually using it as an asset to get what you need out of your business.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So I would say going viral, I don't really care that much.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I prefer building a bit of a framework at the base of everything that you can just lean on and do consistently over a long period of time.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 2:46unknown: Yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: No, they're going viral is useless.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I just don't know if that's actually the best goal for like a business necessarily for personal branding.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, I want to start a food reviewing business.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: I'm just sorry, Mira, I'm not used to people with profile pictures that are kind of like that speaking normally in the comments.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: It's normally like click my link to subscribe to my blah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Um, you want to start a food reviewing business?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: We'll just start reviewing food, like it kind of is that.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And if you're actually entertaining and you have something to say that's actually useful, you have a hot take.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Um unfortunately, the algorithm does champion uh people want to co-host with me.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: We're not going to do that just now.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Um, unfortunately, the algorithm does champion people who tend to be oversimplified of things and be salacious and outrageous.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So if you want to do out, I'd say doing outrageous food reviews, if that's how you express yourself and you do that authentically, then that's actually a really good place to start.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: So being yourself while reviewing food is definitely the best way because if you are being yourself, then you don't have to fake it and it's not exhausting, you can do it for the long time.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: So that's where I would probably start with that is review.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: If you want to do a food reviewing business, just start reviewing food in an authentic way that's authentic to you.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Um, that's a place to start.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And if you've actually got some talent and you've actually got something to say that's interesting, you will probably um go naturally viral from there if you stick to it over a long period of time.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: God, TikTok is so annoying with their suggestions.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Shut up, just hopping in, I'm getting setting things up here.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: This is what's TikTok saying to me?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, if you are just joining, I run a social media marketing business.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So what I do is I've got a bunch of clients that I just go around and make content for.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: That's all part of a wider strategy, and um and yeah, that's that's kind of what I do.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: So if you have any questions about that, if you are a personal brand, a business, something of the like, that's actually uh has a few questions about how you could get things started for you, just let me know.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Dump a question in the comments there.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Question here again from Mira, do I need to change my PFP?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: What's a PF PF?
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, do you mean profile picture?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Well, no, you don't have to change it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: It's just the as a guy who's on Instagram and you get all sorts of requests from all over the world that are all kind of weird.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Um you then look at the profile pictures and they tend to look like your one.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: That's all I'm saying.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: So I'm sorry, I hope that's not offensive.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: But that's just my that's that is my truth.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and if your profile picture, if your profile is gonna be the one that you're doing food reviews with, I would recommend your profile picture being more about food reviews.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Um we've got uh if you have any other questions, if you uh I've put this little this it should say at the bottom, um, it should say at the bottom, I'm a social media marketer, ask me anything.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: So you really can ask me anything about social media marketing in regards to TikTok and all that sort of stuff.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: If you're five foot one, should you feature yourself in your company's brand videos?
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: I'm not laughing at your height, it's just a funny question.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: I never would have picked that as a question.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, remember the platform is all about authenticity.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: So look, if it depends what the company is a little bit, you know, you don't want to be ridiculously miles off brand, but this is what social media is allowed.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: It's allowed people who wouldn't typically get a place in the sort of mainstream media to be themselves and connect in a way with people that are real.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: So don't get too caught up in your height.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: The only time your height is an issue is if you're selling clothes for big tall people.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: That said, there's something quite funny in that.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: So don't get too caught up in the aesthetics of things.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Um, really, it's more about the authenticity because I don't know, we've been fed so much bullshit throughout our lives through traditional media and traditional advertising.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: If you can be yourself on social media, then that really helps.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Because that's all you've got at the end of the day.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: That's all you've got.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: You've got five, you're five foot one, that's fine, just roll with it.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: What's the best way for a plumbing business owner to have a basic social media presence?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, Leroy.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Good question.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Where's your business base, Leroy?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: The best way for a plumbing business owner to have a basic social media presence.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Basic.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Basic's an interesting question.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: What I think you're saying there is, how do I get this done easily so I don't have to think about it too much?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: So, yes, the easiest way where it's no effort is to find someone that's kind of entertaining naturally within your operation and just get them documenting what they do and things they're doing and the process of bits and pieces that they do.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So, plumbing is actually very interesting because you guys are doing interesting shit all the time.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Now, if you've got you in in every trading business, there's always someone that's a little bit funny and a little bit real.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: So if you just don't want to have to think about socials, you kind of need to find a unicorn.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: You may be that unicorn, someone within your operation may be that unicorn.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: If you just show it's like, hi, I'm Devin, this toilet's full of shit, let's unblock it.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And then it just shows the expertise of you doing it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: That marriage between being authentic but also genuinely useful within your job, capturing that in a rough and ready way is a really good thing to do.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So that's the low effort way because you're actually just relying on someone's natural ability.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: And if you just make one of those videos a week, it's not nothing, man.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Gary V would say you need to make 900 bits of content.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: But no, you do need to make more than one, let me put it that way.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: But uh you kind of need to get lucky a little bit.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: If you're interesting with your storytelling, you know, you're doing interesting shit.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: You may not think it that much because you know, tradies don't get looked, like don't get worshipped the way I think they probably should.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Because you guys do some really interesting, amazing shit.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Whenever a trade comes around to my house to fix some shit because I'm hopeless, I'm always like, man, look at this master.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So just turn a camera on, point of view that shit.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Start it with say if it's you, hey I'm Leroy, this toilet's blocked.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna show you how I fix it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: And then just capture it, then just do a quick view at the end, get someone to stitch it up.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: If you can't do it, throw it online, do one of those a week.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: That's a good place to start.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: That's like the that's like the low-hanging fruit because I really love stuff that's like the maximum return for minimal effort.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: That's what I really, really like.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Is um yeah, and all that's kind of what I do for businesses.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Uh it says wicked, thank you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Have just brought a pair of meta glasses also.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: We'll see how we get on.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, cool, cool.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I kind of have a love-hate relationship with meta glasses because they're amazing and I want them, but also I'm concerned about how creepy they're making us all.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: That's all.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: But um, that's a really good place to start.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: But it will take a little bit of experiment and you're unlikely to do it really well at the start.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: So um just have a go with that, mate.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: I think that's a really good place to start.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And don't be afraid, you can jump on my website, um, engagemedia.co.nz or just hello at engagemedia.co.nz.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Flip me an email with some of the stuff you made, I'll take a look and um see if there's sort of any tweaks or anything that you could do.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: But I think that's a good place to be, man.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: It's a good place to be.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Just don't don't remember though, you do want to like you do kind of want to do um start with you in the camera, like you're looking at my camera now, sort of like, hey, I'm Leroy, I'm a plumber, look how good I am at my work.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Start it with you with a piece to camera, then you can just capture and do the video later.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Because we do want to see that it's a human at the start.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: The more that's the thing, in the world of AI slop, the more human you can be, the better.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So chuck people in your shit.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: How would you market a cancer hat company to women in New Zealand?
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Fuck.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Excuse my language.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: You're allowed to swear on TikTok, might get cancelled.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: What's what did what are you Gen Z up to these days?
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Does that matter?
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Does it swear in cool, or is it a problem now?
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: What's happened?
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: How would you market a cancer hat company to women in New Zealand?
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Gee, that's niche on niche.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: But when you say cancer hat, does your hat does the hat you sell have a unique preventative effect of cancer?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: As in, is there something about your hat that's unique to all the other hats?
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: And with so, what is that?
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Because actually the fact that I've asked that question straight away kind of proves the kind of content you need to make.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: You need to explain the problem that you solve.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, sorry.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: No, it's a hat for people losing their hair.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Oh shit.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Shit, okay, that's a big one.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Um I normally quite like I quite like being sort of lighthearted and a bit silly, but this one's a bit more serious.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, marketing.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: So people who are going through the process are losing their hair, and you've got a hat for them that helps them feel a bit more normal.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Is that correct?
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Or just feel a bit, I don't know, uh better about themselves in public.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Is that is that right?
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Could you just flesh that out for me?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: While you're thinking or while you're messaging me.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't want it to be so negative, exactly.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, okay.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: It is hard because like humor is the best thing.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: This is super vague, but effectively you'd want to somehow address the pain point that you're solving.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And it's it has to be kind of delicate because you could it's a fine line.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Introducing humor into something like that.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Um it's like, here's Debbie, she's got cancer, her hands, her hair's falling out.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Here's a hat for her.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Like it doesn't really work.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: So you'd want you know what would actually be good?
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Do you know what would actually be good?
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Is getting people who have used it to be the voice of it because they will get the tone right.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: No one's gonna be offended or or uh think that the tone's wrong from someone who actually is in that situation.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: So I think that's probably the safest play is people who have used the product, get them to talk about it and what it means to them.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Um so you yeah, you're in a difficult one.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Uh your message there is more uplifting, I know it's so hard, and I don't know where to start.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's a good idea.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so the best place to start, I think, is just because tonally you get it so wrong, and you just don't want that.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Like that's just that's a problem.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: People who buy your stuff and love your stuff are the best people for you to get started telling others about your stuff.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: So put the camera on them.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: That's a place to start.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: You couldn't have too many reviews or too many uh things like that.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: So I would consider that as a starting point.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and then once you've got a little few, a few more runs on the board, you could probably look at venturing out and maybe trying some some more light-hearted stuff.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Um, comedians can often navigate that quite quite well.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that means, but it is possible to inject comedy into very difficult, horrible things.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Ricky Gervais does that better than anyone.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: So it is possible.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: You just want to get a few runs on the board before you go straight to that, I think.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but gee, what a business.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: What a business.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I hope it's going alright.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: If you're just joining, I'm a social media marketer.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: This is an AMA, you can ask me anything, and I'll just brain dump um what I think on that, and hopefully it's of use to you.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: I'm still new to this TikTok live stuff, and someone called SMD wants to co-host, and I think that's very bold.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Um so yes.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Kiri O, uh Karen Osborne, thank you for your thing.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: All the very best with your business.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: If you have any other questions, please do ask.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: You don't have to um, I mean, it's not exactly like we've got millions of people here jumping and asking questions, so all good.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Um, but if you are a business, a personal brand or something that's looking to have a bit of a social media presence, um, and you have any questions, just chuck them in the comments there.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: I'm based in New Zealand.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I don't really work.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I'll advise and consult for people all around the country and all over the world if they want to, but for the most part, I like working with people that are about five minutes from my house because I can't be bothered moving and I've got two children.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: So this is the best way that we can do some sort of like um some sort of feedback.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: So uh if you have any questions, don't be afraid to drop them in the chat there.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Today was actually very cool.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: I'm running on a bit of a high, that's why I'm actually pretty keen to jump on today.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Um, I got to go sit with a business that I absolutely love.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: They reached out after watching one of these or watching some of the content that I put out on TikTok, and I got to do an actual full-on workshop with them, which was really cool.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: So we sat down for three hours in a boardroom, broke down where they're going well, what they need to think about going forward.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And the best part was they were already halfway there.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: We just gave them the confidence to continue.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So it was it was awesome.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: I absolutely loved it.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: So I'm a bit of a high from that.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Heavenly Grace.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Hello, Heavenly Grace.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Who do you work for?
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Myself.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: So I've got my own company, it's called Engage Media.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: The website's engagemedia.co.nz.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: I say I must have a social media marketing agency, but really it's just me with a bunch of clients that like my shit.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: And through just throwing so much shit at the wall, I've worked out what works and what doesn't work.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Um, so effectively it's just me, and when there's enough budget, I bring in help for bits and pieces, but that's um yeah, it's my own business.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: And I never thought, like I always wanted to do my own thing, I really, really did.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, I work for me.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I used to be a radio presenter and then kind of got sick of that, and then I'll I wanted to be a professional golfer and make content for that, but um, but then that just got too got kids, mortgage, all that sort of stuff, and then I realized I actually enjoy making stuff for other people and helping them with their stuff just as much as I like doing my own shit.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: So um that's how my business happened.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Liam, hey bro.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Hey bro, I have an okay following on my other TikTok account.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: My videos engagement is really good, but no brand deals at all.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Basically, why no brand deals?
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Well, a couple of things.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: There is a certain size you get to where the brand deals will come to you.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: So there is a thing that you may not actually be resonating enough.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you can be getting a lot of views, but it depends what those type of views are.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: If you've just got kind of like static pictures with things that are written that's just really relatable, share this with your mate if you love your girlfriend, sort of stuff.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that is the case, but um, if that is what you're posting, then you may be getting four million views, but that doesn't have any purchase and consumer behavior.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: So you've got to think it's as horrible as it sounds, you kind of got to think of yourself as a bit of a business.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: So you've got to think about these brands you want to partner with.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: They're probably quite big brands, particularly they will be if they're looking at influencers, therefore, you're dealing with their marketing person on the side of the business.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: You need to work out what their goals are and how you can align with them.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: So it's networking, it's having an agent looking after you, and often you get to that level once you have a big enough following.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I got partnered when I was doing content within golf with Under Armour for a little while.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I've talked about this many times before, um, and it was cool, but it was actually kind of like I put a little bit of content out there, got a few good viral videos, started getting about 14,000 followers on TikTok, good decent reach.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Um, partnered with Under Armour, not because they'd seen my stuff, but because uh I met the marketing manager at a at a golf event, and it's kind of that's how it sometimes can go.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Bigger established folk, like one of my mates, is a well-known YouTuber, have an agent that's going out there doing the bidding for them.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: So if you're just making stuff hoping people come to you, then um that can work, but you have to get pretty big and you have to be able to you know stitch in the commercial messages that these businesses will want really well.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: I do reaction content mainly NZ TikTok content following at about 40,000 at the moment, and that makes sense.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, cool, cool, reaction content.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: So reaction content's cool, like that's good stuff.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: You've just got to try and put your hat on going, if you are a I'm just gonna make up a brand, if you are the energy drink and you want to partner with them, you've got to work out why would they?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Why would they?
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Their goals would be awareness within the market, got to work out well, what is the age group that's following you?
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Where do they live?
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Are they mostly international?
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: That's good to know.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: I found through my golf channel about a third of my views were New Zealand.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: So rather than hiding it, I've got four million views.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It's a cool, but how many of those were New Zealanders?
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Because that's gonna matter.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: Um so I was able to give them real numbers.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I was like, hey, this over this month we reached we got this many views and broken it down.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It was actually a third of that was New Zealand, which equated to about say 300,000 New Zealanders engaged with this content.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, all of a sudden you've got something you can work with in a business, can go put their commercial hat on and go, eh, these guys' eyeballs are actually useful to me.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: So, yes.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: But if you there is this, there's also a certain point where people will just come to you when you put yourself out into the world in a useful way.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But remember, they're not only gonna come to you because they like you, they're gonna come to you because they can see you being a vessel for them to achieve their business goals.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: So that's a way to think about it.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Put a brand pitch together.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: How many people are you reaching each month?
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Where do they live?
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Are they male or they're female?
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: That's a good start.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Because brands know that shit deeply.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: And then you gotta go network and you gotta go bash down some doors.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: So, um okay.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: You can't see this, I've just got a notification, and this is their name, not my words, I don't want to go to cancel jail.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Ching Chong invites to co-host.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Thank you very much, Ching Chong.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: I will not.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Do you take song requests from Triton?
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: I used to take song requests on the radio, but I wasn't allowed to do anything about them because the uh music was controlled by the content director.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: So uh no.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: I used to take them and do nothing with them.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Do I do song requests?
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Um actually I CPR by cupcake, please.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: Your live is flagged for hate speech and hateful behavior.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Repeated violations could result in your live being disconnected.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Well, I know that's just because of that username.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm getting I'm getting aggressive messages here from TikTok saying that I'm violating something.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: This is some dystopian stuff right now, I must say.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Um okay.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Also, what I've been doing here is um from this audio, I've actually been putting this out as a podcast.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: So if you miss something here uh and you're like, oh, there's actually some use to this, then I've actually started a podcast where I just take all this live stuff.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I might do some interviews on there later, and that's just um it's called What Really Works with Andy Wright.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: So if you uh if you're more of an audio guy, which I am, you still came up on my FYP even though you're getting flagged.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: I don't why am I getting flagged?
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Bloody hard TikTok, chill out.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, it says restrictions.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Current live restricted for some audiences.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, yes, sorry.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I'm just sorry, TikTok.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: I didn't do it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I was reading the words that were coming at me.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: TikTok algorithm.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Chill out.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Kate Amanda, what's going on in your world?
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: You've just dropped a message there.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Again, repeating myself, I do social media marketing.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: You can ask me any question.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: I think, okay, it says you're saying restricted how.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: I can still comment and like.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it was probably just a warning more than it was.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: It was very aggressive though.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: But um is my screen really yellow, or is it just my thing's gone on to night time?
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Um I think my thing's gone on to night time.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Alright, that's fine.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Uh Craya.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Hey, watching from New Zealand.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: What up?
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: How good's New Zealand?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am based in New Zealand.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: But um I love yeah, I love that.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: But uh if you have any I mean I could just hang out here for a little while and just talk absolute rubbish to you, but uh, if you do have any other social media marketing questions, let me know.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Drop them in the thing below.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: This is quite strange.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: But uh I don't try to think if there's actually anything else that's actually been useful going on in my life.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Um your camera quality is actually amazing, don't worry about it.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Alright, Chair Queen, thank you very much.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Um is the audio good?
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Because I'm actually uh I've got this running through this dirty little mic here.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: What's the best social media campaign you've worked on?
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: The best.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: How do we quantify best?
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Do you know what was cool?
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: What was really, really cool?
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: There's been a couple, and they haven't been like the biggest things in the world.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: The things that I've enjoyed the most is when you take something that wasn't working and you get it working.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: For example, I've got a company I do some stuff for that is a uh dev uh uh so I'm getting lots of weird comments, property development company.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: So they develop new houses.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: And their old company was not getting them any qualified leads through their website, but they're a very respected company, they thought that was strange.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Um so this was a very established digital marketing agency that was doing their work.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: I came along and I managed to get the opportunity because they were a little bit like, oh, this isn't really working for us anymore.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Do you want to do it?
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Yes, yes, I do.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: So I took it on and I was a bit nervous, like, how do you generate leads for a house for a property company that it's that are quality leads?
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: And I just sat on it for a day and I went through all the different theories, and then within the first week or two of running ads the way that I I thought it should be done, we created more leads for sales that were quality leads, they weren't just spam trash than the old large established company had over the last like year.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: That was so rewarding.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: That was so rewarding because I didn't go into that going, yeah, I'm gonna fucking smash this out of the park.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: I went in going, I think I can do this better, and we did, and we got actual tangible leads that resulted in sales of houses.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: So awesome.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: I just loved that so much because that goes, you kind of when you go from I think I know something to like holy shit, I really know something, and then it works and it achieves an outcome.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: They went on to make a few hundred thousand dollars from it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: It's like boom, that's so good.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: And then the other one was I'm part of a company, and you should check this out.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: This company called Mini Hoshi.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: So we specialize in like premium um golf equipment for toddlers and children.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: It's like adjustable golf clubs, all that sort of stuff.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really nice stuff.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: We're not actually on TikTok, I couldn't be bothered starting it, but I probably should.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Um, we're on Instagram and we started that business, and then last year we just turned the ads on and I set them up how I believe they should be done.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: We started a little bit of an organic footprint, and boom, we sold out within a month and a bit.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Um and it's just great.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: So those little wins, when your knowledge gets implemented into a business and there's a commercial outcome that actually works, and people are delighted and making money for all their hard work, that is the campaigns I get excited by.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Um, how do I learn to do this job?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, Goldilocks.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: When you say do this job, do you mean as in how do you learn to do social media marketing as a job?
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Just confirm that for me before I actually even bother answering that.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Um okay, how do I learn to do this job?
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Also, uh, I just I just have no idea and can't be bothered posting all the time for no return.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, not to be too vague and ignoring the question, but the question is what are you actually trying to achieve out of this?
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: Because if you're just trying to get attention for attention's sake, that's fine, no judgment.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: But why?
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: You might just have some void in your life that you're trying to fill with fake love from the digital world.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: So um, I care about like, okay, how are you going to utilize these tools for the gain that you need?
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: So I really enjoy the tools, I enjoy using them, and I kind of stopped doing like too much personal social media.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: I just reduced that way back and stopped trying to build like a personal brand in that way, and I started pivoting towards um trying to use social media as a way to get more opportunities within this social media advice and consulting space.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: So that's why I'm using it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just spent a lot of time working out what a strategy could look like for that, and that's why I'm here today, because this is all part of it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: I like sharing this stuff with the world, I love it, it's good fun.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: So, my question back to you going, how do I do social content as a job?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Or personal branding, I'm not sure what you want.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Is probably the question.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Um question again, Goldilocks.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: No, I have 33 acres of pure native bush, and I want to learn more about it.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: One stage I wanted to.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, Goldilocks, you've lost me here.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: I do I don't know why we're talking about bush here.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: So you might just need to um you might just need to flesh it out a little more.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Hi Dad, how are you?
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: From Chip.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Hey Chip, what up?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, you want to turn your native bush into a paintball area?
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, you probably should have started with this.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Uh well do that then.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: And then just take photos and videos of the documentation of that being turned into a paintball area.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: It's pretty to start with that.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: That's a good place to start.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: If you're building something for a business, just document it along the way.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: We can deal with it later, but just capture it.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Just chuck your phone a nice 4K 60 frames a second, just put it up and do little 15-second like day one, we did this.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: And then just montage that up together.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: That's a good place to start.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Also, if you are filming content, if you just want a nice, nice little hack, it's not the only way to do it, but just chuck your camera settings, 4K 60 frames.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: That way it gives you an option to do slow-mo nicely later if you need to.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: 4K 60 frames.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Yep, there's a lot of data in there, and it takes a bit more storage, but just give you a better image, you can do a little more with it, worth looking at.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Uh, best tip for business.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Gee, I must say, if TikTok's gonna flag me like they did before, they should flag some of these comments, they are loose.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Best tips for business wanting to get more social media engagement.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: Depends a little bit on the business, but at the core of the core, and what I really care about is baseline principles of this shit.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: So thing I would ask you is what makes you engage with something?
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: If we're to throw that around, you'd and think about that for a bit, you'd arrive at stuff that you find useful or entertaining, maybe a bit of both.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: Memes, relatable, all that sort of stuff.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: So, whatever you do needs to jump through all of everyone's own optimize algorithm and be as entertaining or useful.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: So you do that as a business through storytelling.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: So you've just got to tell good stories.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: That that's kind of at its core.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: There's an element of talent.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: If you have no talent, it's really hard to thumb your way through that without a bit of help.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and some people will always do it better than you, but only you can be you and tell a story like you do.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: So that's your best place to start is work out how to tell the story about who you are and what you do in an authentic manner that's entertaining or useful.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: That's kind of a bit vague.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: You can get right into the weeds, and this is what I do with businesses.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: That's like the baseline theory.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: Then, how do you then create formats on top of that that you can do for eternity that are useful to you?
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, engagement.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Well, the question back at you is what makes you engage with something is then what you kind of need to do to get other people to engage with you.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: What's your business do, Applebee Fudge?
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, is it a fudge company?
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Or is your name Applebee Fudge?
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Um, let me know.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Back to Goldilocks, I have no following or have no idea where to start.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, Goldilocks, this is you're the paintball one with your native bush.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just document you actually building the thing.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's it.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Before you get too caught up in the following, actually build the thing.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: There's no point getting famous for something that's not gonna happen.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: So are you gonna do the paintball thing or are you just thinking about it?
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: You should probably do it first and worry about that later.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: But if you do decide to do it, start filming it along the way.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Uh emojin rose.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: Where are you from?
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: I am from New Zealand.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: That is where I'm from.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: I'm a social media marketer from New Zealand.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: Question from Chip, are you my dad?
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: No, Chip, I'm not your dad.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Because the humans that I'm of dad of are currently asleep through this wall over here.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: And unless you were in there sleeping, then you were not, my child.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Oh god, I love unhinged comments.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, so Appleby Fudge.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: I make fudge, it's so repetitive, always the same stuff, that's where I struggle.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And I've I've I've I'm repeating myself a lot on these sort of things too.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: But the big hack is, and I hate to use the word hack, it's a bit crap, but you need formats.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: You need formats, and those are structures of content that you can repeat and just change out things.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: So you've make fudge.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Fudge is interesting.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: How the hell do you make fudge?
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Tell me how you make fudge.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Show me the process.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: What are ways that you can make fudge at home better?
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: The most common mistakes with fudge.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Top three reasons why our fudge is way better than this fudge.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Um, did you know that this fudge isn't even made in New Zealand?
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: All those type of things, assuming you're in New Zealand.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: So there's actually a lot you can do.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: And we, if you were to go on to say, Claude or ChatGPT, you go, I'm a fudge business.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: What are some formats that I can do to make interesting, simple, repeatable content?
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: And it'll give you a bunch.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Just try them.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: And you've got to take your time.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Let's say you do 10, you do 10 different formats.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: That's like comparing your fudge to other people's fudge, so on.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Um, then try them.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: And when you make them, whatever one performs well on organic, and by that I mean you post it and it gets some views.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: If you get more views than you have followers, then you know that that's gone alright.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Then do that again.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: So that's where we're at.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, that was so helpful.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: Off to ChatGPT.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Cheer to you, Applebefudge.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Appleby fudge.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Why is your handle Appleby underscore fudge, but your photo is a picture of you?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: A human.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Is this the page you do your fudge content on?
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: Because um you should probably change it to a logo of your fudge.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Where's your fudge made?
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Tell me that.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Applebee fudge, where do you make your fudge?
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: Is there a place called Applebee that you make your fudge, or is your name Applebee?
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: Um, if you're just joining, I'm a social media marketer.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm on TikTok live.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: I've been playing around.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: This is actually my second one of these.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: The first one we turned into a podcast, and that is called What Really Works on Your Favorite Podcatcher.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Go on there.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: What really works with Andy Wright, and that's basically this turned into a podcast form.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's the right thing to do, but it made sense to me because live is strange.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: We got all the way up to about 14 different viewers today, so that was very exciting.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Um, if you have any social media business related questions, then drop them in the thing below and we can talk a bit of shit about them.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Uh Appleby Fudge is off to Chat GPT to get some formats.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: I'm in Nelson.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: I haven't been on TikTok in a long time.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Hardly post.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: It's more personal use.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, cool, cool, cool.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, cool.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: No, that makes sense.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: That makes sense.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: So you make fudge in Nelson.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: So people who don't live in Nelson, if you're not, I'm assuming people, the only people who are watching this right now are in New Zealand.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Nelson's a very beautiful place.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: So I think owning that story of, and it's a very pure place.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: When I think of like Pix Peanut Butter and like beautiful beer from is it uh what's that place on the way to um Mochueka?
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: I can't remember, but I think it starts with ah, and they have this amazing brewery there, it's just so good.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Um and you it's like a if food comes from Nelson, I trust it.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: So you could be like the pure fudge, you know, you could be the this like own that Nelson piece because we want to think of that place, I think of of like purity.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like 100% New Zealand pure in Nelson, that kind of that kind of thing.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Just kind of talking out my ass there, but I think you know what I mean.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Triton, where are you?
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Rewaka, that's it.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: Cheers, Miss Moon, Rewaka, there's a brewery there, and I got some beer from that.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: It was absolutely delicious.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Um, Triton, where are you?
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: I live in the Bay of Plenty.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Sea with a compliment.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Sea.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: I'm too kiwi to read that one out.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: Uh Appleby Fudge saying, so true, so true.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: Your content of you critiquing other business videos is gold from Sharnice Greenfield.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Sharice.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: I do uh appreciate that.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: That's very nice of you.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So this actually proved my point, actually.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: So I was going for a walk one day and I was like, I'm kind of sick of trying to pump my life out into the world of social media to yield what?
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: Just attention for brand partnerships?
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: I don't give a shit about that.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: I got sick of it.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: So I was thinking, how do I use this and all the different media things at my fingertips to create a business outcome for me?
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: So I came up with a format, and my format was reacting and reviewing content of other businesses around the country.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: I haven't gone international yet because don't want to just yet, but I will later.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: But that kind of proved my point.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: As soon as I started doing that format, I just committed to that and I've done probably about 20, 30 of those videos now.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: And in that time, I've literally been on phone calls with people from the warehouse.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I just had a workshop this morning with a really established business.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: I've uh I've got like a really cool lead next week with something new.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: Like it's just been inbound crazy.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: So once you've got a format that allows you to be yourself, then you're good to go.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: And I based that format off, I just found that um when I was in meetings for businesses that and I was being asked questions about social media and my theories and why things think I think things work and don't work, it was working really well.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: And I thought, well, how do I create a format with all that?
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: And that's what you watched, and it's resonated with you.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: And I care about things being useful and correct.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: That's also what I care about.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: I don't care about attention for attention's sake.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Say grenade ten times, crazy tongue twister.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I'm scared because I feel like if I do this, it's I'm gonna end up saying something.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Grenade, grenade, grenade, grenade, grenade, grenade, grenade.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Are you doing some trick on me?
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Are you doing some trick on me?
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stop because I feel like that's gonna get clipped, and I'm gonna go straight to cancel jail.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Uh Message here saying, Nick and die.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Great content, bro.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: Cheer to you, Nick and Die.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Nick and die.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: Is that your name, Nick and Die?
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: Or is that two people, Nick and Die?
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: Nick and Die.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Nika and D AI.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Nick and AI.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: I don't uh Yes, keep doing it, such a great idea, and I love watching to see if we think the same.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's interesting, never thought about that.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: I feel like with my reaction videos to other people's content, that I'm yeah, I kind of saying what people would think but don't realize they're thinking it.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: And I don't really like doing them for smaller businesses.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: I try to be more helpful and charitable because you know, a lot of people do social as an afterthought.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: What blows my mind is uh businesses with a lot of resource that have a huge incentive to get the social media right that do it as an afterthought and just post any old shit.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, how do you not have a strategy with this?
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Like, it's 2026, man, this shit's been out there for a while.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: How do you not have a strategy?
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: It doesn't make any sense.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: That's it's to me, it's almost like going, oh, we don't have a website.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: You're like, what?
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh no, we don't even have internet.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: It's like, what?
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: I just think if you're a business and you have social media, try and do it right.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: You wouldn't pay for a billboard, I use billboards all the time, but you wouldn't pay for a billboard and just chuck a shit one up, would you?
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: Well, people do, which blows my mind as well.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: But anyway, that's a different story.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, I I love it.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: I love making stuff useful and work.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, this is back to um this is back to the person wanting me to say grenade 10 times really fast.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: I will not do that because that's gonna get clipped.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: Next thing I'm gonna get cancelled, it'll be taken out of context.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know what you're setting me up to do there because I can't think that fast.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: I will do it privately to work out what you're trying to get me to do.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: Um, Nick and AI, haha, tried posting content and struggle to have learned from you and gonna try again.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Nice, nice Nick.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: So, Nick and AI, when what is the content that you're trying to do?
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: That's the question I'd like to know.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: Hey TikTok, if this if the goal, the if your supercomputer's listening to this, I want to know how long I've been on here for.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: Could you put a little timer up there?
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: That would be fantastic.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Um, make AI easy for normal people.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: Oh good, good, good, good, good, good.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Well, here's something that I found interesting.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: I am wouldn't be an AI expert by any means, one of my mates is, and he took me through a two-hour onboarding, and he is an amazing, brilliant person who knows all of these things.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: I found to date the most useful thing I've used AI for, had AI for, is the Whisperflow app.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Whisperflow is just like it just turns, it's like dictation on Apple, but way better, and it sits on your keyboard on your computer.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: Just the Whisperflow app, introducing that into people's lives has been amazing.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: I've done it for a couple of businesses and they're like, oh, so good.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: So basically it just it's just really high-quality dictation that uses AI, and it's just what you just don't even have to type, because I don't know about you, but I find texting and typing emails just an absolute nightmare.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: So that's like an entry-level piece, and that tends to blow people mind, blows people's mind.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: With AI consultants in general, I think they go so high with it, it's like this thing can raise your children for you with a prompt, and you're like, that's too much, it's too much.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: But can it kind of automate my calendar or can I just speak to it and it will send a calendar invite?
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: So going in with just the real base level stuff, the little day-to-day bits where people can save a minute here and a minute here, those are the little bits to start, I reckon.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: Putting a spotlight on those because so many like AI consultant ads are like, we use Claude to raise our family.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Now we go away on two-week holidays and they stay at home.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: And you're like, oh man, I just want to have my emails work a bit faster.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Um hi.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: Hi, Nick.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Andy, but I'll take Nick.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: I'm looking for someone to help with social media.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Helena Marie, Maria Tarot.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: Fantastic.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: If you have any questions for me, Taro, Tarot, are you a tarot card reader?
- 42:53unknown: Oh.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Um Nick and AI, great shout.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: You know, like where you could where there's an opportunity is if you're just trying to compete with all the other AI consultants that are out there, they're like AI bros.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: What about being the guy that goes to old people and gives them a little AI tool that changes their life?
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: Doesn't take as much time as yours, but you really move the needle in someone's life.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Like, little just thinking outside the box a little bit.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: Who's the AI consultant for seniors?
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: I haven't heard of one.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: You can win that game.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: You don't, they don't need Claude to cook their food for them.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: They just, I don't know, log into shit quicker.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: You know, just little little bits like that, you know.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: I know it's cool to be the go to guy for the best stuff, but that's exhausting, and you get sick of that.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: When you get kids, you get sick of all that shit.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Um WSP Have you heard from Have you heard from Uncle Wang?
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, no Rapata Ashby.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: I've Heard from Uncle Wang.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Thank you for your valuable comment.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Rapata Ashby.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Yes, we have a tarot business in Auckland seven years.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: Hm taro.codilnz.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Ah, so tarot cars where you flip over the cards and you can kind of talk about their lives and where you think it's going.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I f I don't want to lie to you, I don't know how I feel about that.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: I am ignorant to your practice.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: So forgive me.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not s I just don't know.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Um where would you start?
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: I'd have to go through one to work out how you could utilize this in social media.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: But I mean it's interesting.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Tarot cards are interesting.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know, I don't know enough about them to be useful there.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: I'd have to think about that because I don't know what if there's an ethical issue before I start suggesting things.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Spiritual consultations.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: We tailored to professionals, number one on Google.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, spiritual consultations.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, a good place to start is just hmm.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: I don't imagine people are going, you won't you probably won't be able to get many video testimonials from people because it's probably a bit more of a private matter.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: So you probably have to rule out that.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Um, one thing is certainly if you've got any written Google reviews that are already public, just turn those into tiles.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: That's a start.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Read out a couple of those in short form.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: That's a start.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: There's your best feedback there, and they will be probably story-based because I imagine the impact you've had on these particular people to lead them to do a Google review has been quite powerful.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: There's a start.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Read out Google reviews.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Helena Marie Tarot Reader.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: Here's check out this Google review and just read it out.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: Bang! And just do one, like that's a start.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna go crazy viral, but it's an at least it will probably be story-based, and that's a good way to begin.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Um, we have 7,300 followers on TikTok and been in the media.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, okay.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Shit.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: That would need I'm sorry, I don't I don't actually have much on that one for now.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: I'd need to really think about that.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: But sorry, I can't be much use.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Google reviews is a place to start reading those out.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: You're in kind of a mystical world, and I'd say you're kind of scary to some people.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: I'd want to spend some time thinking on that before I give you any useful suggestions.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: Just remember it's all about stories at the end of the day, and we're all in the people business.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: So, stories about people is really the base of everything.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Views on brand ambassador to get brand activation for an existing brand but needing a revamp.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Views on a brand ambassador.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: So when I think of brand ambassador, you're kind of an influence there, either influencer there, aren't you?
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: So apparently the w there there's a serious return on brand ambassadors slash influencers if the product and brand is a perfect fit.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: So if you have a product that has a heavy present presence in female fitness, then getting the right influencer in female fitness, that that product is just a seamless attachment to what they do, can yield a huge return.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: So, yes, the answer is yes and no.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: It's a terrible idea if you don't do it right.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: Do it right, it's a great idea.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: Matilda Green, Colgate.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Those work.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: They just work somehow.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know how, but like Dan Carter was working for the chemist warehouse.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know why it is.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: I think probably Dan Carter could wet with everything, but um so the answer is the right one, yes.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: The wrong one, no, no, no, no, no.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Mahi Drysdale Cat food.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: It was so bad it kind of worked.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: He's now the mayor of where I live, which is kind of strange as well.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: But um celebrity endorsements apparently I think uh don't really move the needle as much as we think they do, unless they are a perfect brand fit.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm hearing in marketing podcasty world that I listen to.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: So I don't have a lot of experience with that, but I do have a lot of experience with sort of like leveraging influences uh through social, and it is a good idea, but it's only part of the strategy, it's not the whole strategy.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: Uh back to tarot cards.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, no problems, we're quite well known in Auckland as the leader.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: No spiritual consults is popular.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: Um interesting, interesting.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, Helena.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: I wish you all the best.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: I don't I want more time on that.
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: Uh woo, great advice and comment as looked at Dan Carter.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: What is your business, might I add?
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: If you've got resource to consider Dan Carter, what the hell is your business?
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: Dan Carter is prime real estate in the brains of Kiwis.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: So he's like beachfront living in people's brains.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: So if you're gonna get him in your brand, you kind of can't go wrong.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: But but he's really popular.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: For you to write on the back of that, it needs to be a good fit.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: That's all.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: And you need to stick with him for a long time.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: So, um woo, tell me, what is what does your business do that can get to the point where you're considering paying for Dan Carter as your ambassador?
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: It's madness.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: Uh finance.
- 49:33SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: Who's in?
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Wow, fuck.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: Do you know who's worth looking at?
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: If you're in finance, get the people's accountant on LinkedIn.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: What's his name?
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Luke.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Luke, absolute legend.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know him really, but I've commented on his stuff before.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Luke, the guy.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: He's the only guy on LinkedIn that kills it.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: That's a New Zealander and an accountant.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Get him involved.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: That's a trusted voice.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Keep the change.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: Get that guy.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Now, you're in the finance world, so no doubt within your industry, you're probably like, people might have thoughts on him.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Fuck their thoughts.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: The general public think he's awesome.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: Go get that guy.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: He's awesome.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: He's great.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: He's great.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: And high net worth individuals all are like him.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: So that's that's worth looking at.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Throw some money at that.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Um, leverage that stuff.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Who else?
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: I'm actually a good person to ask about this because I am the general public.
- 50:27SPEAKER_00: People outside of your industry are actually their anecdotes on who's relevant to your industry is actually worth listening to.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: So I don't know anyone in finance beyond him.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Um.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: Who else?
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: I don't think of anyone.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like for me, that's the only guy that I know of, but that's a survey of one.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, team, I've actually been on here for a wee while now, longer than I expected.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: This was fun.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Um we'll just go for a couple more minutes.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: God, it's nine o'clock.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: Gee.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: It's this is weird.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: I am just standing in my office slash garage talking to a screen of my own face.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know what psychological damage this is doing to me.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you have any more social media related questions, we'll take a couple more.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: We're gonna go in five minutes.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Woo, thank you.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Enjoyed the quick advice.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: That's the finance people there.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, I hope that was useful.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: I hope that was useful.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: But I guess I just want to stress that again.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: A brand ambassador is not all of your strategy.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: There's more to a strategy than a brand ambassador.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: That's part of it.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: Good to think about that.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: Message here, uh, you're funny.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Sky.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: You seem lovely.
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: Is there a chance that you're AI?
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: Your profile picture looks like you might be AI.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: I'll take it.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: Do you know how to create funnels?
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming sales funnels.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: I did a funnel on my 21st.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: I drank that thing full of beer.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: It was flat and warm and it was disgusting, but I didn't vomit, I held it down like a champion.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Do you know how to create funnels?
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, so through pay, do you mean through paid ads?
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Um business funnels.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, you mean so do I know how to create funnels for businesses?
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: By that, do you mean internal structures of stuff through sales reps or do you mean as in through marketing?
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: Message here from Will saying golf warehouse needs your help.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: That's I won't comment on that.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: I won't comment on that.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: I actually am in the golf industry.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: Um I I do.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, fair, fair.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: Sales, sales funnels.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: Um how do it create sales funnels?
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm assuming you mean through utilizing marketing.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, I do.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: Yes, I do.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: So, in general, you there is not really one perfect funnel that everyone fits in.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: Human behavior is complicated and it moves all over the place.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: I don't really even think of it as funnels, I kind of think of it more as just like structures that people will move, hopefully, down at some point in their own time.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: You can't force people to want something that they just don't need or want to have access to right now, despite what the performance marketers say.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: So you basically want to create awareness activity that's awareness content at the top, and that's just stories about who you are, what you do, why you're great, emotion, storytelling, founder stories, product reviews, interesting, watchable, engaging shit at the top.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: Let's call it the funnel, the structure.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: And you just throw that out into the world and paid media and on organic.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Then the next piece is another layer of content that targets people that go onto your website and are doing some uh searching around.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: So people's behavior online is a great way to people's behavior.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I'm getting caught up in my own head here.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: People's behavior online is the best indicator on where they are on the in the consideration of buying.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: So then the next layer is content that gets them closer to the till.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: And then once they have gone pretty close to the till, I hope this is making sense.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I'll start again.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: It's awareness, it's consideration and research, and then it's conversion.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: That's the simplified form.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: I was getting stuck in my own head with too many thoughts.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: So um lots of content to serve the people that aren't in market right now.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Content for those that are kind of searching, and then content for those that got close but didn't buy.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: That's kind of the structure I like to use in paid media.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: It works.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: I know it does.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: And also it's some sort of piece in that that helps convert new customers.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: So, like 10% discounts, particularly for retail, that's really good.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: Um, so that's the sort of thing I like to do.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Content is so hard, I feel like my art is great, but my content is shit.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, question: you feel like your art is great?
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: Do you know it's great?
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: That's a difficult question.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: Your art may feel honest, but do people like it and want to buy it?
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Do people buy it?
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: That's something to know.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Because people were like, oh, it's lovely, but they don't buy it.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: That's a problem.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: That's a problem.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: So it's hard to make good content around art that people aren't buying.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: That's me being way too brutal.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it, but that's just food for thought.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: The term you said, I feel like my art is great.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: We need to know if it's great.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: Um, okay.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Oh well, a lot of comments have come through here.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: Uh bear with me.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, it all leads to a sale.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: Are you live right now?
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am live right now.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: Have you heard of the 7-Eleven rule in business?
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: Is the 7-Eleven rule kind of the same as the 95-5 rule?
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: The 95-5 rule I base that off kind of everything, which is like 95% of people don't know what you're selling, 5% do.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: If they don't purchase from the 30 seconds, first 60 seconds of website website, they won't buy.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe that might be what the data says, and that might be on average.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: You know, that might be on average.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: So there might be some people that sat there for five minutes, might be people that sat there for a second.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: Averages aren't actually great because no one's actually the average.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: So that may be true, but some people might sat on there for 10 minutes and not purchased, or they did purchase.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: So the averages for that are kind of annoying, in my opinion.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: I have a good mustache, thank you very much.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: I've been working on that.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: Doody or Moo Hang.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, people do buy your stuff.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: I'm in here, a makeup artist.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, far, I mean, the first start is just before and afters.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Imagine this.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate, I'm here, a makeup artist.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: And this one was awesome today.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: Look at this.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: And then it's just you just film it happening, the process, film it, film it, film it, show the end result, get the person revealing it, and then have them be like, oh my god, it's amazing.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: You could do that every day.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: You're doing that every day.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: Just capture that.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: You've basically just got never-ending before and afters, and before and afters is just does never get to hold.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Before and afters is like so good.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: So you've actually got it, you've got no problem there.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Your content's great.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: If what you do is good, you can just show the process of it and the content will be good.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: So that's worth looking at.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: Although you're saying spray tanner, I don't imagine people getting a spray tan on their bits and pieces would be that keen on filming that.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: I understand that.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: But when it comes to makeup, fair enough.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: Um how would you recommend how would you recommend someone who knows what they're doing with cameras but not social media?
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's interesting.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of people who are really good videographers who don't get more than 300 views.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Really good with cameras.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Well, if you're gonna try to compete on social media with quality camera work, that's a tough that's tough.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Because that's not really why we're there.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: Why are people on social in the first place?
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: To be entertained, related to, learn useful things, kind of escape the miserable reality of their lives.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: So if you're just showing them relatively nicely, well-captured things, that's fine, but stories more important.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: So, how do you tell a story with camera?
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: And remember, it's a people business more than it is a brand business.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: So businesses have to humanize themselves and plug themselves in differently.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: So if I was you, I would do something like, hey, I'm Will.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: People say I'm really good with cameras.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Here's what I caught today.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: Look at this.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: So actually using you as kind of the vessel for it.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: If you're just throwing up nice camera camera pictures and video, I can't connect to that on a human level.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: Where if it's you be like, hey, I'm well and bit nervous about this, but I've been told to put myself on social media because I'm really good with a camera.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: This is what I made today.
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: And then if it's really good, it'll work.
- 59:21SPEAKER_00: So you've got to be, we're human first.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: It's got to be human.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: Oh god, there's a few messages coming in now.
- 59:30SPEAKER_00: Dimitri, hey unk.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I have a skill set, but I don't know how to use it all use it all.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: The followers 10k.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Um you do have a skill set, that's great.
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: And you've got 10,000 followers, so you're doing something right.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: I think just bring yourself into it a little more.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming that because your primary thing is your camera ability, then we do need to humanize it a little more.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: That's all.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Um, do you think hashtags still work or not so much anymore?
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: Uh look, I don't have any proof on that, but if your video's bit rubbish and you put hashtags in it hoping that it will make it not rubbish, the video's still rubbish.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: So I would say primary goal should be just to make more interesting content.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Don't be afraid to shift.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: And if you need to, throw in five hashtags.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: I think, and I don't know this, I think the platforms can still help the hashtags.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Uh sorry, I think platforms can still utilize hashtags a little bit to help categorize the content for people's interest.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: So there's value in that.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: So if you're doing hair makeup before and after, that's probably and like it's kind of enough.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: Like you kind of think about your content as a category of interest and use those hashtags.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's a super effective thing, but you know, we're all just trying to cut through and get attention for our businesses.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: It's still a function on there, let's just use it.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: And in my mind, that makes the most sense.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: So don't know for sure.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: But the original point: if your video sucks, no amount of hashtags is gonna make it not suck.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: Uh awesome, yeah.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_00: It's how to try and sell but also be human.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: What's your take?
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: I'm just following threatens.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm sorry, Will, I don't know what you're saying.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, trends.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: I'm just following.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I actually don't I don't advise businesses follow trends as the primary thing that they do.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: I think of that as if a trend naturally lands on you and you think it's a pro it you can plug yourself into it really well, then go ahead and jump on it.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Following trends is exhausting, and I actually think it's kind of a slightly hollow enterprise.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: You might strike luck, but then what's tomorrow?
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_00: Another trend that you might not work.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm more of a how do we build formats around who you are and what you do and where you are that are more targeted towards the goals of the business, and then you just rotate those and you chuck a trend trend on top every now and then.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: That's my my preference.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: Um don't just post as much as you can.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Um cool.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: That's a very blanket statement.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I've heard Gary V talk about that.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: He's like, there's quality and quantity, and people talk about quality, but there is a quantity play as well.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: You're like, yeah, okay, cool, yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: But all of us not he talks about posting like 900 times a day or some bullshit.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: It's like who's gonna do that?
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: Don't you have a life?
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: Jesus.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: Sandra Priscilla, you have a lovely accent.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Sandra.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: I've seen convoc uh conflicting reviews on posting quality over quantity.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: Well, it's a bit of both.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: So I know we've got lives, you can't just be staring at your phone all day, kind of like I'm doing right now, so I feel like a complete lunatic, but um it's it's not quality over quantity.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: I think it's it's more long term.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_00: So, whatever is the amount that you can commit to a consistent output.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: So if you're like, I'm gonna post 600 times a day, fantastic.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna do that for six months?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: All right, let's reduce that number down until we know that you can guarantee to do it for six months.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: So one of my clients would be making a video a week for about three years with two other posts.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: So three posts a week, one of them's a video.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_00: And there are different levels of complexity and slightly different, like more of a viral play, etc.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: So if you can post as many times as you can per week, consistently, forever, that's the amount that you can post.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: And if it's one a week, if it's one video a week, that's okay.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_00: It's not nothing.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: It's not nothing.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: And if you're following a good format and it's authentic and it's real and it's about who you are and what you do, then there's some value there.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: Um Chris.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Agree.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: Chris, that's Chris from my school.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Up to Chris.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: I think it's Chris, the one from my school, same name.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: I find them really shallow and struggle with the Yap content error.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: I'm actually not sure.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_00: Is Yap content just people sort of sitting there talking?
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: Is that what this is?
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: Is that what this is?
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: Um I've heard that.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_00: Is that just people talking?
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Shit.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: I find them really shallow and struggle with the app content error.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: Um 900 bits of content is legit and possible unless you have a team.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know, I know.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: So, like, I mean, Gary V, everyone's who's in this game has watched a little bit of Gary V here and there.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: And he says a lot of things that are really useful, but um he is devoted to his online presence in a way that is like I don't know, man.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_00: I don't have any heart, I don't have enough heartbeats interest to be at that level.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: I'm more interested in how do you get the maximum return for the middle and minimal effort.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm looking for.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: Um cool, my live's gonna end in five minutes.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: I've actually already stayed on longer than I thought.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: Um, it's asking me to check that I'm not an AI bot, so I have to do that one little swipy thing.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: Uh Kate, amen.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_00: Um, we can't just be staring at our phones all day.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: Like, we got lives, man.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: Get out of the world.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: Get out of the world.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, okay.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: Well, that's plenty for today.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: Uh any more one more question.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: I've really enjoyed this.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: I must say a lot of people have been inviting themselves on as guests tonight.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: And I've said no, because what are you doing?
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Last time we did that, I spoke to a mushroom in Dunedin.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: So um, that's not what we're we that's not what we're here for.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, all right.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: Well, it seems like it's all dried up a little bit there, but that was fun.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_00: I think we got up to a handful of viewers for the evening.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: Some good questions.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: Um someone else, just as we're about to leave, has asked another question.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you for your help from Kate.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: Good luck with the spray tanning and the uh the makeup.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Just remember your process videos, you're already doing little stories every day.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: People come to you looking a certain way and they want to leave looking better.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: That is a process.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: Show that.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: Show yourself at the start going, look like we did look what we did with, or this is Amanda.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: She's come in today.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it, Amanda.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: Show that process really fast, really fast.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: Do it in 45 seconds.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: Then show the reveal of her seeing it for the first time.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: That never gets old.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: That's a format.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: Don't you don't need to reinvent the wheel.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_00: That's perfect.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: Just keep doing that.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: Again, this was very fun.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: God, I've been talking a lot today.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: My brain's not working anymore.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_00: Alright, TikTok.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_00: One more message.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: Thanks, team.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: Much love.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_00: Look after yourselves.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: Follow me on this TikTok.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: Uh what's my handle?
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_00: Andy Wrighty N Z.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_00: Follow me on Instagram.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_00: Message me if you want me to do some work for you.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: Just know that you're gonna have to pay.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: Alright, goodbye.
