- 1:10the Doctor Who serial Hour of the Daleks. And I have to begin this
- 1:15episode with yet another apology and over another issue with messed up chronology. UH.
- 1:23And that is that that the title of today's episode is Luger Lugging Laddies,
- 1:33which was actually the title of UH that was a signed to a program
- 1:37that we played several months back and was labeled Luger Lugging Laddies. However,
- 1:42I've been able to clarify this is the correct episode. Excuse me, Luger
- 1:47Lugging Laddie. This has unfortunately been one of the more frustrating episode series to
- 1:53get in order. This episode is not actually from November the fifth, but
- 1:59actually air back on July eighth. In the case, we played from July
- 2:02eighth. The for July eighth was actually the Bebop's bandits Bungling Bang Bang.
- 2:13So now let's go ahead and take a listen to today's episode The lugar Logging
- 2:17Ladies, Ladies and gentlemen. We take you now by a transcription, behind
- 2:23the scenes of a police headquarters in a great American city, where under the
- 2:28cold, glaring lights will pass before us the innocent, the vagrant, the
- 2:32thief, the murderer. This is the lineup. Hi Ben, Hi,
- 3:05Well did you see? Yeah, I just came from there, spend an
- 3:07hour in the chair. He pull it. No, he thinks he can
- 3:09save it, he says, the nerve's dead. Says I must have hit
- 3:12it against something recently, you know, coke bottle or something like that.
- 3:16When the nerve dies like that, the gas forms in the tooth and that's
- 3:20what caused all the pain. Well, he built a little hole in the
- 3:23back and let the gas out and felt better, right, away. It
- 3:24was still sore, but a whole lot better. What happens now, Well,
- 3:28he packed it with cotton. In a day or two, he'll take
- 3:30the nerve out and then fill it up. Hello, lieutenant, Oh,
- 3:32mister Cobbt, how are you you? Osagean Kwine? How do you do
- 3:36so fine? Nice to see you again. I got your call, lieutenant.

- 9:30down at the store. They talk pretty nice about you at the star Cluan,
- 9:33Yeah, but what about now? What about after all this, I'll

- 11:50We had dinner together and then we went to the movie and how'd you
- 11:54go? We walked. She had her car, but she left it in
- 11:56a lot, and you say, you can out post one. That's right.
- 12:01Then one we went back, got her car and she drove me home
- 12:03after one to clan. Yeah, how do you know? Because I was
- 12:07beat and the way I had to get up at seven the next day,
- 12:09those double features killed me. It was the last show. Look what's so
- 12:15hot about Wednesday? Last hold up was Wednesday Clan about eleven o'clock. Anybody
- 12:20see you come home Wednesday night? I don't know. Look, you guys

- 13:16a couple of dozen shirts too, me too, Yes, I pardon me.
- 13:24We're looking for Alice Western. Oh, that's Mined. Police officers like
- 13:28to talk to you. You have a few minutes, Yeah, sure,

- 13:50Did you like one of these? Oh? No, thanks, I
- 13:52use my own. Do you hear about cook quad? Huh? Micha Konkan
- 14:00told me he'd been picked up. Good guy, what's he done? You're
- 14:03gonna have to go back to jail. Just checking up on a few things,
- 14:07Miss Westring, Maybe you can help us. How long have you known
- 14:09Claudiera? Ever since he started selling clothes here? Two three, four months?
- 14:13I guess I never knew he was a con toil. Mister Khankor told
- 14:16me yesterday, I never tell, you know, but that didn't make no

- 14:35my time. You know, Well, just how much have you been staying?
- 14:39Once twice a week? Maybe? What do you do when you go
- 14:41up? Well? Not much. He told me he can't drive a car,
- 14:45that he never learned and that's why he didn't have one. Well that
- 14:48sound funny, but I guess it's because he's on parole and isn't allowed to
- 14:50have a car for a while or something. We'd take my car I got
- 14:54a nice car. My brother in law sold it to me forty nine for
- 14:56it's pretty nice god, and i'd ride around in that would drive into something.
- 15:00Movies. You know, when was the last time you were out with

- 15:13and went to the rialto together. It was a good picture. It was
- 15:16signure early or late show. Well, we had some dinner down the street
- 15:18and went right to the show, got in right in the middle of the
- 15:20news reel. You know what time it was. It was still light out
- 15:24when we got there, so it couldn't have been morning seven, seven thirty.
- 15:28What time did you get out of the movie? Ten? Maybe I
- 15:31had to be in early. I lived with my own. Wasn't it a
- 15:33double feature? Yeah, it seems to take a little more time than that
- 15:37to see a double feature Miss Western three hours? Oh well, we only
- 15:39stayed for one picture. We were out by ten. I want to see
- 16:00if there's anything on the book pap Oh yeah, m hmmm. Small found
- 16:14of deposit slip and they acres apartment. Thank eight hundred and thirty dollars this
- 16:18week. Oh what does he make at that star? Forty eight to fifty

- 18:14there and broke it blood. Ben, Yeah, mister Rasmusson says, a
- 18:18man cut himself on the hand, in the leg somewhere jacket edges here.
- 18:21Ben, you got to call the crime lab and ask him to send somebody

- 18:34mister ras How do you do? And I see that Irving ninety Yeah,
- 18:42that's when the car came through three blocks away. You know if I had
- 18:45the police ride away mister Rasmer, Oh, no, I want to do.
- 18:48But that boy looked mean to me. He said to wait five minutes
- 18:51before I moved, or he'd come back and killed me. I wait,
- 18:53do you notice if he was on foot or had a car outside. I
- 18:56couldn't say. I just know he was here taking my dough. Do you
- 19:00mind telling us exactly what happened, mister Reshminton. Well, I was behind
- 19:03the cigar counter when he came in. Nobody else in the store. At
- 19:06first I didn't see it. He asked for a package of cigarettes, and
- 19:08then I saw it. The gun. He was holding it in his hand
- 19:11close to his side, just letting it hang there, pointed at the floor.
- 19:15He said he wanted all the money I had here. I emptied the
- 19:18register by the cigar counter. Then he made me go back and empty the
- 19:21prescription register. He just wanted the bills. When I had it all together,
- 19:25he made me hang on to it. I mean, when I took
- 19:26him out of the front register and then back here, why he walked around
- 19:30the counter and stood right next to me and told me to count it was
- 19:32he pointing the gun at you? No same thing, just kept it hanging
- 19:36by his side. People on the street couldn't see him and never guessed what
- 19:38was going on. Well, I counted the bills and it came to sixty
- 19:41eight dollars. I don't know whether I was counting it right or not.
- 19:45Then he said, let's get all of it. I asked him what he
- 19:47meant. He said, I had more money around here, and I better
- 19:48get it out. Did you have anyone tomorrow's deposit three hundred and sixteen dollars?
- 19:52I stashed it above the door. There was it in a bank sack.
- 19:56Yes. He made me take it out, count it, and hand
- 19:57it to it. He put it all in his pocket. Ever seen this
- 20:00smur before? I don't think I ever did. Not I could know him
- 20:03if you saw him again. See, I didn't know him anywhere. Did
- 20:07you add anything of this description you gave the officers, mister Rushminton. No,
- 20:11let's see. He's about nigh high for a little heavier build or a
- 20:15dark gray flannel soup right here at striped tie. Was a good dresser.
- 20:18I stayed in his late thirties or early forties, nice looking, didn't look
- 20:22like a hold up man. His uh, his eyes now, I can't
- 20:26think there probably brown because he was dark. I didn't notice anything outstanding,
- 20:30and I didn't notice anything. How about when he smashed the counteroff thing.
- 20:36Well, he sort of went down. I did make a move because he
- 20:38still had that gun hanging in his hand. I think he was cut pretty
- 20:41bad and I had to get an artery on that leg. His pants got
- 20:45soaked right away. He made me handing some bandages and the tape and things.
- 20:48Yeah. Uh, this gunny had say it was a luger, Yes,
- 20:51sir, a German luger. I was in the European theater and I've
- 20:53seen lots of him. I could smell the oil eyes. He's one of
- 20:56those dadies who sits up nights, taking it apart and polishment. I could
- 21:00just tell to the look in his eyes. Well he was just aching for
- 21:03a chance to try it out on me. There's an empty sun. Yeah,
- 21:26yeah, day what I think. I'm right next to the mayors.

- 23:14Oh it's too special? Yeah, Maget too, Marselthy, Yeah, I

- 25:47Johnson, who works in the garage, puts share of the cars. Now,

- 31:00and mister Comedian Thrillers three packed tight with action and tension. Remember Thursday nights
- 31:07on most of these same CBS radio stations. And don't forget Lowell Thomas and
- 31:12Edward R. Murrow are two of the noted newsmen covering the presidential conventions in
- 31:18Chicago over the CBS Radio network. Welcome back someone above in but otherwise a
- 31:33good episode with a nice red herring thrown in. It worked okay in this
- 31:40episode. They did this. I think it similarly in nineteen fifty two and
- 31:48fifty three on Johnny Dollar and I don't think it worked as well, just
- 31:51because they did it too much. But anyway, fairly well done case,
- 31:56and again sorry for the out of order thing. I think the only way
- 32:00I could have gotten these in order beforehand is to listen to all sixty two
- 32:04episodes before we play them in just not the time for that, but usually
- 32:09they are better collated as a series than what we're dealing with here. All
- 32:15right, listener comments and feedback, and we have this from Lisa, who
- 32:19says you provide such a well organized, thoughtful presentation of so many old time
- 32:22radio shows. Thank you. I used to listen to old time radio late
- 32:27at night when I should have been asleep as a high school student in the
- 32:30seventies. Other providers I love have awful commercials to buy their hard drive.
- 32:36I appreciate your podcast for your junior in love of the material and your insightful
- 32:39comments bought and read what made the Golden Age Shine? Keep up the good
- 32:45work well, thanks so much, and I appreciate that Lisa, and do
- 32:51encourage folks to pick up a copy of that if you have a kindle,
- 32:54because it answers the question of why I think the Golden Age of entertainment is
- 33:00so great? All right, Well, we've got we've got a special coming
- 33:05up for you on Sunday and you want to be sure and listen to that,
- 33:09and then we'll start all over again on Monday with yours truly, Johnny
