- 0:09Speaker 1: and it's all about adapting to your brand new life,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but not forgetting who you were before.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Watch Shake and Everybody, Emily A body Here. You are
- 0:32Speaker 2: listening to episode two hundred and thirty one of Hurdle,
- 0:37Speaker 2: a wellness focus podcast where I connect with everyone from
- 0:40Speaker 2: your favorite athletes to top experts and industry CEOs about
- 0:44Speaker 2: their highest highs, toughest moments, and everything in between. We
- 0:49Speaker 2: all go through hurdles in life, and my goal through
- 0:51Speaker 2: these discussions is to empower you to better navigate yours
- 0:55Speaker 2: and move with intention so that you can stride towards
- 0:58Speaker 2: your own big potential and of course have some fun
- 1:03Speaker 2: along the way. For episode two thirty one, I am
- 1:07Speaker 2: chatting with Betina Gozo Shimanette. She is a Nike Global trainer.
- 1:12Speaker 2: She's also the creator of line Up with Us, a
- 1:17Speaker 2: new platform for training programs and workouts, alongside her husband Nick.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I am so so excited to have Beatina back on
- 1:26Speaker 2: the show. You may recognize her because we've chatted before.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Bettina and I first connected for episode seventy two years ago,
- 1:37Speaker 2: and as we talk about in today's episode, Oh my God,
- 1:40Speaker 2: so much has happened since then. Today we cover it all.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We talk about what life's been like since we sat
- 1:49Speaker 2: down in her Los Angeles house, including the fact that
- 1:53Speaker 2: she now lives in Texas with her husband and daughter,
- 1:59Speaker 2: a Luna, and they have a baby on the way.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Betina talks to me about what's been going on in
- 2:05Speaker 2: terms of her career as well, going from being a
- 2:08Speaker 2: Nike Master Trainer to working as one of the founding
- 2:12Speaker 2: trainers for Apple Fitness Plus, now departed from Apple, working
- 2:17Speaker 2: back with Nike, and like I said, working with her
- 2:20Speaker 2: husband Nick to create something special. She opens up about
- 2:24Speaker 2: her journey with pregnancy, what it was like leading into
- 2:28Speaker 2: the birth of her first child, and how she managed
- 2:31Speaker 2: to have grace with herself both before that birth and
- 2:35Speaker 2: afterward coming back into her body, recognizing that she is just,
- 2:41Speaker 2: how she puts it, different now and that different is okay,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and that there is just so much importance with having
- 2:49Speaker 2: grace with herself in this new chapter of motherhood. Now,
- 2:54Speaker 2: as I mentioned, they have one on the way, so
- 2:56Speaker 2: she's back to incorporating that important mindset, that important lesson
- 3:01Speaker 2: into her every day taking care of her body and
- 3:05Speaker 2: as she puts so eloquently, her mind as well in
- 3:09Speaker 2: this chapter, knowing that the thoughts and the things that
- 3:12Speaker 2: she's feeling these are things that her baby boy is
- 3:16Speaker 2: feeling too, and so she wants to be mindful of
- 3:19Speaker 2: that moving forward. I love this episode. There are so
- 3:22Speaker 2: many beautiful takeaways for women that may be pregnant, moms
- 3:26Speaker 2: to be, and new moms, many of whom reach out
- 3:30Speaker 2: to me on the regular asking for this type of content.
- 3:33Speaker 3: So silver platter, it is here and ready for you.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Also, love always being able to connect with friends. As
- 3:42Speaker 2: I mentioned in today's episode, Betina is truly one of
- 3:45Speaker 2: the most beautiful souls, kind hearted humans and it's always
- 3:49Speaker 2: just a good time to spend some time with my girl.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Make sure you're.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Following along with Hurdle over on social It's at Hurdle Podcasts.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I am over at Emily a body and with that,
- 4:01Speaker 2: let's get to it.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Let's get to hurtling.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Today, I am sitting down with my gal Pala, Bettina
- 4:14Speaker 2: Gozo Shimanek.
- 4:15Speaker 3: How you doing, friend, I'm good. That has changed since
- 4:20Speaker 3: the last time we talked I was.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I was looking in to see when that was and
- 4:26Speaker 2: oh my god, episode seventy two, So there's some context here.
- 4:30Speaker 2: There's three hundred and thirty episodes in the feed, episode
- 4:34Speaker 2: seventy two, so that was over three years ago.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And like you have a double last name now.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I know, it's so crazy, and a baby and another
- 4:45Speaker 1: one on the way. And I live in Texas now,
- 4:48Speaker 1: like you were in my little little living room in
- 4:51Speaker 1: LA with my two other roommates and now I'm like
- 4:53Speaker 1: living in a house with three dogs, a baby, and
- 4:56Speaker 1: a husband.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Wow. Did we Did we think that was going to
- 5:01Speaker 3: happen when I was sitting on your living room floor?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Definitely not.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Did you know Nick at that time?
- 5:08Speaker 1: I did, actually, because he was working at Vitrue where
- 5:10Speaker 1: I was where I was coaching. So we were friends.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We knew each other, but we weren't dating it.
- 5:16Speaker 3: We weren't dating it. Oh my gosh.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So before we just like go completely into catch up mode,
- 5:22Speaker 2: why don't you give those listening a little intel on
- 5:26Speaker 2: who you are?
- 5:27Speaker 3: My friend?
- 5:28Speaker 1: So, I am a health and wellness fitness professional that
- 5:32Speaker 1: specializes in strength training. I'm currently working with Nike as
- 5:35Speaker 1: a Nike Global trainer formerly working with Apple Fitness Plus,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I do a little of everything. I guess I
- 5:42Speaker 1: don't want to call myself a generalist, but I feel
- 5:46Speaker 1: like I just want people to live healthy and good lives.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I love healthy and good lives.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And it's funny listening to you talk about what you
- 5:55Speaker 2: do now because when we connected the last time for
- 5:58Speaker 2: the show, you were also a Nike trainer. So how
- 6:02Speaker 2: does it feel for you to be kind of in
- 6:05Speaker 2: this full circle moment.
- 6:07Speaker 1: It's kind of weird because you know, I thought the
- 6:09Speaker 1: Apple job was going to be like the thing that
- 6:11Speaker 1: I was going to do forever. You know. It was
- 6:13Speaker 1: a full time job, full time benefits, you know. But
- 6:18Speaker 1: I've learned in that period of time that I just
- 6:22Speaker 1: don't like people telling me what to do. No, it's
- 6:25Speaker 1: not even like that, you know. I've just always been
- 6:28Speaker 1: someone that marches to the beat of their own drum.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And I think that, you know, working a full time
- 6:32Speaker 1: corporate job is just something that wasn't for me.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, And I always kind of say that to people
- 6:39Speaker 2: when they ask how it feels to work for yourself.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I feel like there are a lot of different perceptions
- 6:45Speaker 2: about what that entails. What it doesn't entail, but you
- 6:49Speaker 2: have to know that you're the kind of person that
- 6:52Speaker 2: thrives at the chance to make your own schedule and
- 6:55Speaker 2: can be accountable with that, right yep.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know the job is great, Like I think,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think that there's so many opportunities there, but I
- 7:02Speaker 1: think for me, you know, it had been ten years
- 7:05Speaker 1: that I spent as a trainer, you know, and building
- 7:08Speaker 1: my own business, and I felt almost trapped, like I
- 7:11Speaker 1: couldn't do everything that I wanted to do.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and again, so understandable, right, because you had this
- 7:16Speaker 2: base of living, you know, kind of as you totally
- 7:21Speaker 2: pleased without someone telling you necessarily when and where you
- 7:24Speaker 2: had to be, and training clients on your time, right,
- 7:28Speaker 2: like making the decision on when you wanted to make
- 7:31Speaker 2: yourself available to help other people get closer to their goals.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Exactly, you know. And it was I was able to
- 7:38Speaker 1: squeeze in a client here and there in the morning
- 7:40Speaker 1: and then in the evening. But then I was like,
- 7:42Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I feel like I'm a part time
- 7:44Speaker 1: trainer now, you know, Like I wasn't able to do
- 7:47Speaker 1: the things that I really wanted to do. And you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: I love the opportunity. I learned so much there, Like
- 7:53Speaker 1: I love their mission and you know, their passion for
- 7:56Speaker 1: inclusivity and accessibility, Like we got to learn and American
- 8:01Speaker 1: sign language in the training world, and so that was
- 8:03Speaker 1: kind of cool. And now I'm even noticing that I've
- 8:05Speaker 1: just integrated those into my workouts that I've been doing,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you know, on Women's Health Live Workouts, and you know,
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm hoping to do that on Nike Training Club too.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So I learned so much.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk a little bit about the transition firstly
- 8:21Speaker 2: into that kind of opportunity and then out of it,
- 8:25Speaker 2: because personally, so much happened for you during that time
- 8:28Speaker 2: as well.
- 8:29Speaker 3: But when you announced that you were joining.
- 8:32Speaker 2: The team at Apple for Apple Fitness Plus, you were
- 8:37Speaker 2: in the early stages of being pregnant question Mark.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So it was September when we announced, but we'd already
- 8:44Speaker 1: been working on the project for a while. I my
- 8:47Speaker 1: partner and I at the time, you know, we weren't
- 8:50Speaker 1: married yet, but we had talked about having kids, and
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know, I hear so many people say, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: it could take up to a few years, and so
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think because we weren't putting pressure on it just
- 9:00Speaker 1: kind of happen. It happened a lot faster than we
- 9:02Speaker 1: thought it would, so we I think I was officially
- 9:07Speaker 1: pregnant in September, and that was shortly after we announced,
- 9:15Speaker 1: so I do know that we didn't share that I
- 9:19Speaker 1: was pregnant publicly on Apple and everything until December. So yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I remember being in this new job and being so
- 9:27Speaker 1: scared to tell them, But I also knew, like Apple
- 9:30Speaker 1: is so passionate about making sure that they can celebrate
- 9:34Speaker 1: everybody in any stage of their life. So I was like,
- 9:36Speaker 1: if anyone's going to keep me while I'm pregnant, of
- 9:38Speaker 1: course they're going to keep me.
- 9:40Speaker 3: So what a stress though?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Right Like the time is already so stressful, both of
- 9:47Speaker 2: them separately, separately stressful to start a new job, and
- 9:51Speaker 2: then of course first time in your life being pregnant,
- 9:54Speaker 2: so much goes hand in hand with that.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So to combine the two. Talk to me about how
- 9:59Speaker 3: that felt.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you know, I it was kind of
- 10:02Speaker 1: weird though, because I think because it was a full
- 10:06Speaker 1: time job and I knew that I was being taken
- 10:08Speaker 1: care of as far as benefits, and I knew that
- 10:10Speaker 1: I was going to have maternity leave. It was one
- 10:13Speaker 1: of those things where I was like, Oh, I actually
- 10:15Speaker 1: feel like I'm going to be taken care of during
- 10:17Speaker 1: this whole period, and you know, being a person that
- 10:23Speaker 1: likes to hustle and work all the time, like, I
- 10:26Speaker 1: don't think if I had that job, I would have
- 10:29Speaker 1: relaxed in that time that I was pregnant and postpartum.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I would have just kept hustling. And you know, I
- 10:36Speaker 1: kind of felt like, Oh, I can actually enjoy this job,
- 10:40Speaker 1: enjoy the pregnancy, and I feel like everything happens for
- 10:44Speaker 1: a reason. It's like not just saying that I got
- 10:46Speaker 1: the Apple job so I can get pregnant. But it
- 10:47Speaker 1: was weird how it all kind of you know, intertwined,
- 10:50Speaker 1: the timing and everything. But it was super scary because
- 10:53Speaker 1: I was like, how, how is Apple going to receive me?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Are they going to resign me, or are they gonna be like, Okay,
- 10:58Speaker 1: well this girl just got pregnant right away. But I
- 11:00Speaker 1: remember being so scared but so relieved at the same
- 11:03Speaker 1: time when everyone was celebrating it. So it was very
- 11:07Speaker 1: empowering to be a woman in the fitness industry to
- 11:10Speaker 1: be like, Hey, I'm pregnant and I'm still going to
- 11:13Speaker 1: be showing up on camera every single week. I'm going
- 11:15Speaker 1: to do what I do. And I think at the
- 11:17Speaker 1: time Robin was already Rebin our own was pregnant, Like
- 11:22Speaker 1: maybe I think she's like five months ahead of me,
- 11:25Speaker 1: So I feel like she kind of was my inspiration.
- 11:27Speaker 1: At the time. I was like, Okay, she's still going,
- 11:29Speaker 1: she's still working hard, she's still doing what she does,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and so I just knew and felt really confident in
- 11:35Speaker 1: what I was, what the journey was ahead of me.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Yeah, talk about again, something happening for you, right, because
- 11:43Speaker 2: how I imagine now what life would look like if
- 11:49Speaker 2: at any point, you know, I do decide to have
- 11:53Speaker 2: a baby. The stress that goes hand in hand with
- 11:58Speaker 2: wanting to work and make ends meet, but also then
- 12:02Speaker 2: take care of yourself. So to be able to have
- 12:05Speaker 2: those benefits, Like, what a beautiful thing that happened for you?
- 12:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that was the biggest thing for me.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, this really really like became such
- 12:18Speaker 1: a good opportunity because of that, and it helped me
- 12:20Speaker 1: relax more. And during this first pregnancy and now being
- 12:23Speaker 1: pregnant for the second time, it's I already kind of
- 12:27Speaker 1: like know what to expect. I guess you can say.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And it's funny because even like during my first pregnancy,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I was checking the apps every single week, like what
- 12:35Speaker 1: is the baby growing? How big is he? Is he
- 12:37Speaker 1: the size of a blueberry? Now, okay, you know, like
- 12:40Speaker 1: thinking of all these things and getting so excited. But
- 12:42Speaker 1: now I'm like, wait, how many weeks am I am?
- 12:44Speaker 1: I nineteen twenty? I don't even know, you know, I'm
- 12:47Speaker 1: just kind of.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Like whatever, losing all track of time here exactly.
- 12:53Speaker 3: So talk to us a little bit.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I know that you did on camera work before working
- 12:58Speaker 2: with Apple, but what was that like for you to
- 13:01Speaker 2: all of the sudden have access to such a diverse
- 13:06Speaker 2: and large global group of consumers.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Well, first off, our team was amazing.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Everyone on the Trainer team was it is amazing, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: And I love getting to know everybody, and I loved
- 13:21Speaker 1: the passion for wanting to reach so many people globally.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It's been great because I feel like even just in
- 13:28Speaker 1: the short amount of time it was less than two
- 13:29Speaker 1: years that I was working with the team, and you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I still have so many followers from all around the world,
- 13:35Speaker 1: just you know, reaching out and just like, oh my gosh.
- 13:38Speaker 1: You know it's because you know, when I was working
- 13:40Speaker 1: with Nike Training Club again working with them now, I
- 13:43Speaker 1: don't believe they have the same access. I know, just
- 13:46Speaker 1: different countries. But it's pretty cool just to touch so
- 13:50Speaker 1: many different lives across the universe.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I can only imagine so getting on camera while
- 13:58Speaker 2: being pregnant the first time around. Talk to me about
- 14:02Speaker 2: how that felt for you, because not only can it
- 14:05Speaker 2: be challenging to keep showing up when you're pregnant period,
- 14:09Speaker 2: but then to show up and be filmed while moving.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think the worst, to be honest, was the first
- 14:17Speaker 1: trimester when I wasn't telling anybody because I'm trying to
- 14:21Speaker 1: show up, trying to be so giddy, and I was
- 14:24Speaker 1: just like, I feel like crap, And every single day
- 14:28Speaker 1: it was just like okay, I couldn't wait to tell them,
- 14:31Speaker 1: like I think I waited till twelve weeks when my
- 14:35Speaker 1: doctor was like, you know, I'm very confident you don't
- 14:38Speaker 1: have to tell work, but I just wanted to be like,
- 14:40Speaker 1: do you understand what I do for a living? Like
- 14:42Speaker 1: I have to tell them, you know, I'm like sitting
- 14:44Speaker 1: here doing core workouts on my belly, and I was like,
- 14:46Speaker 1: this isn't comfortable anymore. So, you know, that was I
- 14:50Speaker 1: think that was the hardest part was in the first
- 14:52Speaker 1: trimester when I was keeping it a secret. I felt
- 14:55Speaker 1: a lot better in the second trimester just you know,
- 14:58Speaker 1: I felt you know, more powerful, I felt like I
- 15:01Speaker 1: had more energy, and then just everyone was also just
- 15:04Speaker 1: celebrating it. I was the first pregnant trainer on camera there,
- 15:07Speaker 1: so it was just funny because everyone was so much
- 15:09Speaker 1: more delicate. But like, you know, I'm just like, I'm
- 15:12Speaker 1: still doing my thing. You know, I'm still Latina with
- 15:15Speaker 1: a lot of energy. But it was just weird to
- 15:19Speaker 1: see like my belly growing every single week because you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: Apple films workouts every single week, so just to see
- 15:26Speaker 1: the belly grow was really fun.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And you know, you mentioned I'm still Vatina with that
- 15:35Speaker 2: kind of energy there. What was the reaction to you
- 15:41Speaker 2: training through your pregnancy from the outside inn Did people
- 15:46Speaker 2: have input on what you were doing with your body?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, you know, I think that. I mean, we
- 15:52Speaker 1: were very careful with what we shared on social and
- 15:54Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure that everything that I shared
- 15:57Speaker 1: was safe and you know, approved by other colleagues and
- 16:02Speaker 1: making sure I wasn't just pushing stuff out there that
- 16:05Speaker 1: was like I wasn't just doing heavy barbell cleans and
- 16:07Speaker 1: all these things. But you know, I remember posting something
- 16:11Speaker 1: in my story that was just kind of more of
- 16:12Speaker 1: a dynamic movement and someone was like, oh, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I don't think you should be doing that, and to me,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I think this is an opportunity
- 16:21Speaker 1: really to educate. So especially this time around, now that
- 16:24Speaker 1: I don't have working with Apple, I'm like sharing more
- 16:27Speaker 1: things that women can do when they're pregnant, because I
- 16:30Speaker 1: think a lot of people think you can't you can't
- 16:32Speaker 1: get your heart rate over a one forty, or you
- 16:33Speaker 1: shouldn't be jumping, and you shouldn't be doing all these things.
- 16:36Speaker 1: But if you have a healthy, safe pregnancy, hey, it's
- 16:39Speaker 1: totally fine as long as your body feels right doing
- 16:42Speaker 1: it and you're not doing anything that's going to hurt
- 16:45Speaker 1: the baby. And you know, if you're not sure what
- 16:47Speaker 1: to do, then you should definitely consult with somebody. But yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know, when people were reaching out, I was like, Okay,
- 16:53Speaker 1: this is an opportunity to educate and let people know
- 16:56Speaker 1: because it is a time where you should be active
- 16:58Speaker 1: and you should still be feeling good. It's actually going
- 17:01Speaker 1: to be better for you in the long run. I mean,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I went through forty one hours of birth. I felt
- 17:05Speaker 1: like the exercise that I was doing helped me endure
- 17:10Speaker 1: that forty one hours, you know, and I was able
- 17:12Speaker 1: to go through it like I felt like it was
- 17:15Speaker 1: only a few hours, you know.
- 17:16Speaker 3: So you're a superwoman.
- 17:19Speaker 2: You you mentioned, you know that that assumption that some
- 17:23Speaker 2: may have heart rate getting over one p forty. Can
- 17:26Speaker 2: you talk us through some more of perhaps the know
- 17:30Speaker 2: how that you'd have now through both being pregnant and
- 17:34Speaker 2: obviously your education as a trainer when it comes to
- 17:37Speaker 2: foundationally what women should take into account while moving during pregnancy.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, obviously you hear a lot of people say, well,
- 17:46Speaker 1: if you weren't doing exercise before, like maybe you shouldn't
- 17:49Speaker 1: do that, or you can do basically everything that you
- 17:51Speaker 1: were doing before, and that's so vague, but you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's okay if you haven't been exercising before and you
- 17:58Speaker 1: want to start like a nice easy routine with someone
- 18:01Speaker 1: that's certified and knows your body and can make sure
- 18:03Speaker 1: you're doing everything that's safe. I think that's totally fine.
- 18:07Speaker 1: In fact, I think it's a great time to start
- 18:09Speaker 1: exercising if you haven't been before. It doesn't mean you
- 18:12Speaker 1: need to be throwing around kettlebells and bar bells, but
- 18:14Speaker 1: you know, it's a good time to start doing some
- 18:16Speaker 1: basic strength training. You know, a lot of people think
- 18:19Speaker 1: that you shouldn't be doing rotation, but you know, how
- 18:22Speaker 1: are you supposed to be putting on your seat belt
- 18:25Speaker 1: in the car? How are you supposed to grab something
- 18:27Speaker 1: in the back of the back of the car when
- 18:29Speaker 1: you're in the car. The key is just to making
- 18:31Speaker 1: sure that you're not like ringing your belly like you
- 18:34Speaker 1: just want to get movement through the upper part of
- 18:36Speaker 1: your body and get mobility because you know, as your
- 18:38Speaker 1: belly grows, you become more stiff through the upper part
- 18:41Speaker 1: of your back, so you want to make sure you're
- 18:43Speaker 1: getting mobility in there. And last thing, yet, you know
- 18:47Speaker 1: you're gonna get your heart right up, and tracking your
- 18:50Speaker 1: heart rate isn't the way to go. It's such an
- 18:52Speaker 1: old school way. You know, if you want to go
- 18:55Speaker 1: for a run, you're probably getting to get your heart
- 18:57Speaker 1: rate over forty one forty. I guarantee it in fact.
- 19:01Speaker 1: But you know, if you just got to listen to
- 19:04Speaker 1: your body and ask yourself how you're feeling as you're
- 19:06Speaker 1: moving through it, and you know, and that goes the
- 19:08Speaker 1: same for like jumping movements and you know, cardio or
- 19:12Speaker 1: hit workouts, like you could still go to all the
- 19:15Speaker 1: classes that you like, just modify and listen to your body.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and I love your tidbit about it's a great
- 19:22Speaker 2: time to try a strength training program under the supervision
- 19:26Speaker 2: of an expert, right, So, especially if this is something
- 19:30Speaker 2: that's new for you. While it might be tempting just
- 19:33Speaker 2: to go tackle some you know, on demand strength workout
- 19:37Speaker 2: you find online, at the very least find one that's
- 19:40Speaker 2: targeted toward pregnancy, and ideally you would go seek out
- 19:46Speaker 2: that qualified expert to give you that individualized feedback customization
- 19:51Speaker 2: for you and your body, which can be so helpful
- 19:53Speaker 2: during this time when whether it's your first pregnancy or
- 19:56Speaker 2: your sixth pregnancy, things are going to be different.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know that from experience because my body
- 20:02Speaker 1: Now I'm like, wait, what this is so different than
- 20:04Speaker 1: the first time around.
- 20:08Speaker 3: So you have a luna, how old is she.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Know she's sixteen months, wait, maybe seventeen seventeen months.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Look at her just she's just growing rapidly.
- 20:20Speaker 2: She's a ball of energy, absolutely adorable if I do
- 20:23Speaker 2: say so myself. You have a luna and talk us
- 20:28Speaker 2: through what the aftermath was like for you, kind of
- 20:33Speaker 2: rediscovering and getting acquainted with your body after pregnancy.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, it's funny because you talk a lot about
- 20:43Speaker 1: pregnancy and working out and it's so important to move
- 20:46Speaker 1: whenever you're pregnant, but then postpartum is actually the time
- 20:49Speaker 1: you you want to be delicate and you want to
- 20:51Speaker 1: take care of yourself and you don't want to just
- 20:53Speaker 1: jump into the routines. And so for me, it was
- 20:57Speaker 1: very humbling to realize, oh I can't do the same
- 21:01Speaker 1: stuff that I was and oh I am peeing myself.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That means I probably should be going to pelvic floor
- 21:06Speaker 1: therapy and doing all the things. And so that was
- 21:09Speaker 1: so humbling for me because I think, especially as a
- 21:13Speaker 1: fitness person, you know, I've expected to I don't want
- 21:17Speaker 1: to use the phrase bounce back because that word to
- 21:20Speaker 1: me just kind of like I or that phrase. I
- 21:23Speaker 1: just feel like you just don't bounce back, you know
- 21:26Speaker 1: it doesn't really happen that way. You know, you have
- 21:29Speaker 1: a brand new life with a brand new human. Things
- 21:33Speaker 1: are so different, and it's all about adapting to your
- 21:37Speaker 1: brand new life, but not forgetting who you were before,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know. And so I had to just adjust to
- 21:43Speaker 1: everything that I had. You know, I wasn't sleeping. I
- 21:47Speaker 1: have to take care of this baby. I can't get
- 21:50Speaker 1: my early morning workouts in because I'm probably going to
- 21:53Speaker 1: be feeding. You know, I'm not as strong as I
- 21:56Speaker 1: used to be, and I just had to remind myself
- 21:59Speaker 1: that that is okay, you know. But as I started
- 22:03Speaker 1: to get my routine, and you know, I feel like
- 22:07Speaker 1: it's around four to six months where you're you can
- 22:10Speaker 1: kind of do things on your own again without your
- 22:12Speaker 1: baby just being like on you literally every second of
- 22:16Speaker 1: the day. I had to remember all the things that
- 22:19Speaker 1: I love to do, whether it be working out or
- 22:21Speaker 1: reading and meditating, and have to be able to communicate
- 22:24Speaker 1: that to my partner or you know, your nanny or
- 22:26Speaker 1: whoever you have to help to be able to take
- 22:30Speaker 1: that time for yourself. So that's so important. I had
- 22:33Speaker 1: to remember all the things that I loved before to
- 22:35Speaker 1: make sure that I was doing them still. So I
- 22:37Speaker 1: didn't forget who I was.
- 22:39Speaker 3: That grace that you speak of.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I think it's challenging for a lot of women to
- 22:45Speaker 2: find that, especially today with you know, all that is
- 22:49Speaker 2: Instagram and the highlight reel and TikTok and et cetera.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Were bombarded with these unrealistic expectations and images of what
- 23:00Speaker 2: isn't normal right of that quote unquote bounce back. So
- 23:04Speaker 2: for you, did you have a hard time getting to
- 23:09Speaker 2: this place of grace or do you feel like you
- 23:13Speaker 2: really landed there kind of from the get go.
- 23:16Speaker 1: No, I think I had a hard time. You know,
- 23:19Speaker 1: in the beginning, it was very positive. You know, like
- 23:23Speaker 1: my husband is one of the most chill people, and
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'm very very lucky because he is such a great
- 23:28Speaker 1: dad and he loves being a dad and he loves
- 23:31Speaker 1: taking care of a luna. So I have been able to,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you know, be able to just hand a luna over
- 23:38Speaker 1: to him and just take time for myself. But there
- 23:40Speaker 1: were times where I would just start crying for no reason.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I remember just being at the Apple studio and I'd
- 23:45Speaker 1: just be sitting there and just be like, and I
- 23:48Speaker 1: just don't even know why I was crying, you know, like,
- 23:50Speaker 1: there are just so many hormones and finding that grace
- 23:54Speaker 1: was hard. But you know, finding that community of other
- 23:57Speaker 1: moms that I could commiserate with, just to know that
- 24:01Speaker 1: I felt what I was feeling was normal was so important.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So for anyone that is going through that, I don't
- 24:08Speaker 1: want to say postpartum depression for myself, but maybe more
- 24:10Speaker 1: of the baby blues is just to find somebody else,
- 24:14Speaker 1: even just one person or two people that are just
- 24:16Speaker 1: going to help you just get through that, talk through it,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you know, other moms around the same age, you know,
- 24:22Speaker 1: moms that have gone through it, because that's that was
- 24:24Speaker 1: really helpful. Like my mom was a single mom and
- 24:27Speaker 1: she barely remembers what the first six months were and
- 24:31Speaker 1: so it was it was hard to talk to her
- 24:33Speaker 1: about it, you know. And I was so lucky to
- 24:36Speaker 1: have so many moms in my life that I could
- 24:39Speaker 1: talk with and be there for me, and it was
- 24:42Speaker 1: that's the number one thing is the community.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to ask you, where did you
- 24:47Speaker 2: find that community for someone who may be seeking their own?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was fortunate enough to have other women
- 24:56Speaker 1: at work that already had kids, and so that was
- 24:59Speaker 1: very helpful. But you know, even just social media, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 1: just posting the real life things that are happening, and
- 25:06Speaker 1: I was able to get people to be I just
- 25:09Speaker 1: post a question like, Hey, is anyone ever blah blah
- 25:11Speaker 1: blah blah, and you'd get so many moms just be like,
- 25:13Speaker 1: oh my gosh, yes, I can't. I remember that time,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you know, and just knowing that other people felt that
- 25:18Speaker 1: way just made me feel better, you know. But I
- 25:22Speaker 1: know that there are Facebook groups out there, and just
- 25:25Speaker 1: finding these different mommy and me groups, you know. I
- 25:28Speaker 1: went to music classes and stuff like that, and you
- 25:30Speaker 1: meet so many parents there. So I think that there's
- 25:34Speaker 1: so many opportunities to find that community. You just have
- 25:37Speaker 1: to go seek them, whether it's on Facebook or Instagram.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And I love that, you know, going to music
- 25:43Speaker 2: classes something obviously not surprising to me knowing you and
- 25:48Speaker 2: your background with music.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Is that something that you like to share with Luna? Oh?
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yes, Actually it's so cute. I bought a piano out here,
- 25:57Speaker 1: like a real, like upright piano, and I just love
- 25:59Speaker 1: to have her sit and press the keys. And the
- 26:02Speaker 1: other day I was so excited. Nick was like, why
- 26:04Speaker 1: are you What's going on? Because I just heard a
- 26:06Speaker 1: Luna pressing the keys and she was like that that
- 26:10Speaker 1: that like singing with them, and I was like, oh
- 26:12Speaker 1: my gosh, she's trying to sing, she's trying to find
- 26:14Speaker 1: her pitch. It's been really fun. I just love I
- 26:21Speaker 1: just love showing her music. I mean, Nick Will really
- 26:24Speaker 1: wants her to be an athlete, and I just, you know,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I want her to do whatever she wants to do.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And I think she'll be. I think she's gonna be
- 26:29Speaker 1: a pretty athletic, but I think she'll also have that
- 26:32Speaker 1: artsy side of her.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Well, I know that you love to work out with
- 26:37Speaker 2: her in the area, and you relocated to Texas, which
- 26:42Speaker 2: was a big choice for you and your husband. Talk
- 26:46Speaker 2: to me a little bit about that choice, relocating and
- 26:50Speaker 2: what that's been like for you.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so Nick is from Texas and we had talked
- 26:57Speaker 1: about at some point in our lives, like want to
- 27:00Speaker 1: be closer to family. You know, LA is very expensive,
- 27:04Speaker 1: as a lot of people know, and Nick also wants
- 27:08Speaker 1: like five billion kids. I'm good with like two or three,
- 27:12Speaker 1: so you know, having a large house in La is
- 27:16Speaker 1: like very expensive, and so it was something we thought about.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And you know, the Apple job was keeping me in
- 27:23Speaker 1: La and then at some point I was like, you
- 27:25Speaker 1: know what, I'm not sure if this is for me anymore.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I'd like to, you know, I'd like to move on.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And so at the same time when I was deciding
- 27:34Speaker 1: to leave, Nick actually got offered a job out here,
- 27:37Speaker 1: and so we were like, hey, this is kind of
- 27:40Speaker 1: perfect timing. So we just decided to like straight up
- 27:44Speaker 1: pick up and move. And we literally had to like
- 27:47Speaker 1: pack a twenty six foot U haul with all our
- 27:49Speaker 1: gim equipment, like all my strong friends had to come help,
- 27:52Speaker 1: because you know, every single moving company was going to
- 27:55Speaker 1: charge a buttload of money to move some like six
- 27:59Speaker 1: hundred pound equipment. So it was fun, like we actually
- 28:02Speaker 1: have space, you know, we have a we have like
- 28:04Speaker 1: almost half an acre, a big, you know, big garage
- 28:07Speaker 1: for our gym. So it's fun to have a Luna
- 28:10Speaker 1: just be able to you know, play around in there.
- 28:12Speaker 1: And I love being able to imagine what it's going
- 28:15Speaker 1: to be like when her brother is here and them
- 28:17Speaker 1: playing in the backyard together. So you know, it's all
- 28:21Speaker 1: it's kind of like that white picket fence stream, you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: you have like your family, just being able to run
- 28:26Speaker 1: around in the backyard and we have our pool, and yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I just know that that probably wouldn't have been possible
- 28:32Speaker 1: in LA for what we want at least or at
- 28:35Speaker 1: least not anytime soon.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Relocating can come with its fair share of challenges. What
- 28:42Speaker 2: would you say one of the biggest challenges is for
- 28:45Speaker 2: you at this.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Point sounds silly, but the food, Like I just love food,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but no, in La, you know, there it's so diverse
- 28:59Speaker 1: and food there it's just like anything that you want
- 29:02Speaker 1: is right there. And you know, Asian food even just
- 29:06Speaker 1: bubble tea, all the things that I love. But then
- 29:08Speaker 1: also like really healthy food, you know, like it's been
- 29:12Speaker 1: really challenging being pregnant and having a toddler, and you
- 29:16Speaker 1: know sometimes if we're just tired and we just want
- 29:18Speaker 1: to order like takaya, we can't order takaya. You know.
- 29:21Speaker 1: We have to like make our food if we want
- 29:23Speaker 1: something healthy, or we have like very limited in options
- 29:28Speaker 1: where we live. We are lucky we do have some,
- 29:31Speaker 1: but it's not nearly the same as LA. So that's
- 29:35Speaker 1: like a more of a funny note on you know
- 29:37Speaker 1: what I miss and what I'm missing out on. But
- 29:39Speaker 1: there are just a lot of things as far as
- 29:42Speaker 1: like all my friends are in LA. Like I really
- 29:44Speaker 1: thought that LA was where I was going to be
- 29:47Speaker 1: for life. And all my friends from Chicago live in LA,
- 29:52Speaker 1: you know, all my best friends, Like it was kind
- 29:53Speaker 1: of like my whole little pod in Chicago all moved
- 29:56Speaker 1: to LA and then I moved there and we were
- 29:58Speaker 1: all complete. And now I'm gone, you know, So that's
- 30:01Speaker 1: been that's been really hard because I miss them a lot.
- 30:04Speaker 1: And then all the friends that I made at Apple,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Like when I first decided to leave, I was like, well,
- 30:08Speaker 1: it's okay because I'm still going to see them all
- 30:10Speaker 1: the time, and you know, we're going to be able
- 30:12Speaker 1: to hang out more because I'm not going to be
- 30:14Speaker 1: working as much, and you know, and then we decided
- 30:17Speaker 1: to move, and then I was like, oh, man, like
- 30:19Speaker 1: I miss everybody, and that was really hard and it's
- 30:21Speaker 1: still hard. But you know, I'm so grateful that we
- 30:25Speaker 1: have FaceTime. We have work that brings me to travel
- 30:30Speaker 1: to LA all the time, so I'm still able to
- 30:32Speaker 1: see all my friends. But those have been the biggest challenges.
- 30:37Speaker 1: But you know, family is everything to me. And the
- 30:40Speaker 1: fact that I have my whole family and my dogs
- 30:42Speaker 1: and everyone here has been.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Really nice.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Taking a break from today's episode to talk to you
- 30:51Speaker 2: about my sponsor at eight Sleep, like Oh my gosh,
- 30:56Speaker 2: thirty percent of Americans, more than thirty percent of Americans.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I'm a hot sleeper. I have struggled so much.
- 31:03Speaker 2: In the past with falling and staying asleep at night
- 31:06Speaker 2: because of temperature, and that is where the eight Sleep
- 31:10Speaker 2: pod comes in.
- 31:12Speaker 3: It has completely changed the game for me.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Not only does the pod cover, which goes simply over
- 31:18Speaker 2: my mattress, help me sleep comfortably no matter the outside temperature,
- 31:23Speaker 2: but it also helps me feel in complete control of
- 31:26Speaker 2: the temperature inside my bedroom with its ability to dynamically
- 31:30Speaker 2: cool and heat the bed to maintain the optimal sleeping temperature.
- 31:34Speaker 3: For what my body needs.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I oh my gosh, it has been getting super chilly
- 31:39Speaker 2: here in New York City, and last week was the
- 31:43Speaker 2: first time that I use the pod pro cover on
- 31:47Speaker 2: the heat setting instead of the cool setting. Let me
- 31:50Speaker 2: tell you what a treat it was to not feel
- 31:54Speaker 2: like I had to do the Running Man in my
- 31:56Speaker 2: bed for solid five minutes to get warm night. I
- 32:01Speaker 2: am also super super into their Gentle Rise feature, which
- 32:06Speaker 2: uses vibration at chest level to wake me up without
- 32:10Speaker 2: disrupting my circadian rhythm, making mornings feel that much more
- 32:16Speaker 2: welcoming and peaceful.
- 32:19Speaker 3: I truly want all hurdlers.

- 33:46Speaker 2: it's pulled and flu season, it's the holidays, et cetera,
- 33:50Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 33:51Speaker 3: You know where I'm coming from.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Ag one is a simple solution, and trust me, it

- 34:23Speaker 2: a year's supply of Vitamin D and five free travel
- 34:26Speaker 2: packs with your purchase. Do you feel as though the
- 34:38Speaker 2: long distance friendships are a little more challenging because you're
- 34:43Speaker 2: pregnant again?
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yes, yes, and no. Like I was very lucky over
- 34:53Speaker 1: the past three months. This month has been really slow
- 34:55Speaker 1: for work as far as travel, so I haven't been
- 34:59Speaker 1: able to see everyone. But like the past few months,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I was able to go to LA almost like twice
- 35:04Speaker 1: a month for fun or work, and you know, so
- 35:07Speaker 1: that's been nice. But I know that now I'm like
- 35:09Speaker 1: going into late second trimester, Like I'm not going to
- 35:12Speaker 1: want to travel all the time. Like I have a
- 35:14Speaker 1: trip planned LA for one of my best friends baby showers,
- 35:17Speaker 1: but I don't know. Plus, like you know, everyone wants
- 35:19Speaker 1: to go out late. I'm like, even before I was pregnant,
- 35:23Speaker 1: I can't go out after nine pm. So I'm like,
- 35:27Speaker 1: I'm sleepy by eight.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Oh my god, you're speaking my language. You You're totally
- 35:34Speaker 2: speaking my language. So where were you when you found
- 35:38Speaker 2: out that you were pregnant with your second?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Oh? I was at home. I Oh, I knew it.
- 35:43Speaker 1: And you know what, it's wild because the aura ring
- 35:46Speaker 1: is the reason why I knew I was pregnant.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Tell me about it.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I had my body temperature stay up for like over
- 35:55Speaker 1: a week, but I knew I wasn't sick. I felt
- 35:57Speaker 1: really good, and I knew at that point i'd missed
- 35:59Speaker 1: my period. And I was like huh. And then I
- 36:03Speaker 1: remember staying. I was like, oh, I don't remember where
- 36:06Speaker 1: we were, but I was standing somewhere and I was like,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I'm going to take a test when I get home.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And then I went in the bathroom and I took it,
- 36:13Speaker 1: and I remember being like oh, because at that point,
- 36:15Speaker 1: we weren't like trying trying. We were just kind of like,
- 36:18Speaker 1: okay if it happened, like we wanted another one soon,
- 36:20Speaker 1: but we just didn't know when it would happen, especially
- 36:22Speaker 1: since we'd just moved. And I just remember like having
- 36:25Speaker 1: the little strip and I like walked into the kitchen,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I saw Nick, and I stuffed it in my pants
- 36:29Speaker 1: because I didn't know. I wanted to surprise him, you
- 36:33Speaker 1: know how. I wanted to tell him. So I stuck
- 36:36Speaker 1: into my pants and I was like, I don't know
- 36:37Speaker 1: what to do. And then I eventually just like was like, hey,
- 36:41Speaker 1: I need to show you something. And then I like,
- 36:43Speaker 1: I think I put it on an element wrapper and
- 36:45Speaker 1: I was like, here, he need some elements and he
- 36:49Speaker 1: was like what, Like, I think that morning I gave
- 36:52Speaker 1: him an element already and he was like, why does
- 36:53Speaker 1: she keep giving me elements?
- 36:56Speaker 3: Why is she pushing electrolytes on me, even you don't electrolytes.
- 37:00Speaker 1: We're in Texas now. But yeah, so it was very
- 37:03Speaker 1: exciting because you know, it was like we knew we
- 37:07Speaker 1: wanted to happen soon, but it wasn't like we were
- 37:09Speaker 1: like waiting for it, you know.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and a boy and a boy.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Oh gosh, Nick is so excited.
- 37:19Speaker 3: So what would you say? What would you say?
- 37:22Speaker 2: From the last pregnancy, Some of the biggest learnings were
- 37:25Speaker 2: that you're taking with you right now in terms of
- 37:28Speaker 2: taking care of you and your body.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, the first trimester, just rest like it's okay, you're
- 37:35Speaker 1: gonna feel like shit, you know. I remember the first
- 37:39Speaker 1: time during that first trimester, I was like, uh, I
- 37:44Speaker 1: don't think I could ever do this again, Like this sucks.
- 37:47Speaker 1: And then magically, you all of a sudden feel better
- 37:49Speaker 1: sometime in the second trimester. So I gave myself a
- 37:54Speaker 1: lot of grace this second time around, when every time
- 37:57Speaker 1: I felt like crap, I was like, it's okay, I'm
- 37:59Speaker 1: going to feel better. I'm going to feel like I
- 38:00Speaker 1: knew that there was a light at the end of
- 38:02Speaker 1: the tunnel. During except for like the first first time through,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I really was like I don't think I can do
- 38:08Speaker 1: this again, Like this sucks. So just knowing that second
- 38:14Speaker 1: time through is it made it a lot easier. But
- 38:18Speaker 1: the other thing I had to remember was that movement
- 38:20Speaker 1: always is going to make me feel better, like always,
- 38:24Speaker 1: like no matter what, movement is going to make me
- 38:27Speaker 1: feel better. And also the mindfulness and meditation like that's
- 38:31Speaker 1: been a big thing for me and again like helped
- 38:33Speaker 1: me through that forty one hours of labor. And so
- 38:37Speaker 1: this time round taking care of a toddler, like you know,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I've told you that I let time pass and I
- 38:44Speaker 1: don't even know what week it is, but I've had
- 38:47Speaker 1: to make sure that I stay connected to the baby
- 38:49Speaker 1: in my belly and making sure that I'm very mindful
- 38:52Speaker 1: and not just like going through the motions, but staying
- 38:56Speaker 1: very connected to the journey because I think that really
- 39:00Speaker 1: helped me through my first try or first pregnancy, and
- 39:03Speaker 1: I want to make sure that I can through this
- 39:05Speaker 1: one too, Like, and there's also like everything that I'm feeling,
- 39:08Speaker 1: I know the baby feels, and like this time around,
- 39:11Speaker 1: like I'm so like, oh I'm so tired. Ah, oh
- 39:15Speaker 1: my gosh, the dogs are annoying. Da da da dah,
- 39:18Speaker 1: and it was just like last week where I told Nick,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, I need to be
- 39:22Speaker 1: more patient with the dogs because I don't want him
- 39:24Speaker 1: to feel that, you know. And I was starting to
- 39:27Speaker 1: like realize and remember, like I was so chill when
- 39:30Speaker 1: I was with the Luna, but this time around, I'm
- 39:33Speaker 1: a little more anxious because I'm taking care of a
- 39:35Speaker 1: toddler and I have these like three crazy dogs running
- 39:38Speaker 1: around everywhere. Yeah, it's just one of those things where
- 39:41Speaker 1: now I'm really trying to remember, like the baby's going
- 39:43Speaker 1: to feel everything I'm feeling, and I want to make
- 39:46Speaker 1: sure that I'm very present.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Two things to double click on.
- 39:49Speaker 2: The first thing to double click on is you said
- 39:51Speaker 2: that your mindfulness practice happit helped you during that extensive labor.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Can you elaborate on that?
- 39:57Speaker 1: Yes, so I actually learned about hypno birthing during my
- 40:03Speaker 1: third trimester.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Educate me.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Yes. So, hypno birthing was started by this woman, I
- 40:10Speaker 1: think her name is Marie Mungone and it's, you know,
- 40:14Speaker 1: supposed to be targeted towards women that want a natural birth.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I am someone that doesn't even like take ibuprofen. Like
- 40:24Speaker 1: I'm just like I'll just want an element and I'm
- 40:26Speaker 1: good and some water.
- 40:27Speaker 2: You know, if I have a headache like wind backs, yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 2: element exactly.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So yeah. So the whole thing is is like you're
- 40:39Speaker 1: meditating and relax relaxing during your birth, and you know
- 40:43Speaker 1: it's supposed to get you through the surges and get
- 40:45Speaker 1: you through the pain. And so I learned about it,
- 40:47Speaker 1: but I didn't actually take a course. I just read
- 40:49Speaker 1: the books and I learned. I did the meditations. I
- 40:52Speaker 1: had a meditation labor playlist, and I went through twenty
- 40:56Speaker 1: four hours of labor without anything. And I was going
- 41:01Speaker 1: through back labor, which is whenever their their head is
- 41:06Speaker 1: facing your stomach and so or sorry they're they're they're
- 41:09Speaker 1: belly to belly, so they're facing up and so then
- 41:12Speaker 1: their heads every time there's a contraction, it just jams
- 41:15Speaker 1: on your sacrum. And so it was very, very very
- 41:19Speaker 1: painful for me. But I went through a long time
- 41:23Speaker 1: without that epidural and I had I not swollen my service.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I ended up swelling swelling. Had I not swell been swollen,
- 41:33Speaker 1: I think I would have been able to push her
- 41:34Speaker 1: out without it. But my doctor was like, you're swelling
- 41:38Speaker 1: a lot, and we need you to relax. If you
- 41:40Speaker 1: don't relax like you're, we're probably gonna have to cut
- 41:43Speaker 1: you open, and I know you don't want me to
- 41:44Speaker 1: do that, so let's give you some benadryl and then
- 41:46Speaker 1: you relax. And you know, I don't even know how
- 41:50Speaker 1: much time went by. I mean, obviously forty one hours,
- 41:52Speaker 1: but I was able to push her out eventually without
- 41:55Speaker 1: a c section, and I I I can definitely occur
- 42:00Speaker 1: at the hypno birth thing, but this time around, I'm
- 42:03Speaker 1: actually taking a real, actual course and learning a lot.
- 42:07Speaker 1: We're in the third week and I'm learning from a
- 42:10Speaker 1: fellow trainer, Taylor Walker Sinning, and she actually had gone
- 42:14Speaker 1: through two hypno birthing water berths, so it's kind of
- 42:18Speaker 1: fun to learn from her. We'll see how it goes
- 42:21Speaker 1: this time. I mean, the biggest thing is just that
- 42:23Speaker 1: I just want the baby to be here healthy. It's
- 42:25Speaker 1: okay if I have to get an epidural or whatever happens,
- 42:28Speaker 1: but you know, I'm definitely want to Like it sounds weird,
- 42:32Speaker 1: but I want to feel everything. I want to be
- 42:34Speaker 1: there and then you know, be really present and everything
- 42:36Speaker 1: that's happening.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, one of my good friends she was
- 42:41Speaker 2: talking to me about how being a runner really helped
- 42:46Speaker 2: her prepare for the entire birth process, because she really
- 42:51Speaker 2: did equate the entire scenario to running a marathon, right
- 42:56Speaker 2: And in her mind, it's like, if I can endure
- 42:59Speaker 2: that sort of pain for four plus hours or you know,
- 43:02Speaker 2: in an ideal scenario sub four hours for many, then
- 43:06Speaker 2: I know that I can handle whatever comes my way
- 43:10Speaker 2: here and being able to talk to yourself, which brings
- 43:14Speaker 2: me to that other thing that I wanted to double
- 43:17Speaker 2: click on, which was the sentiment that we are the
- 43:21Speaker 2: person that talks to ourselves the most in any given day.
- 43:23Speaker 3: And so your takeaway about.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Wanting to make sure that you are speaking to the
- 43:29Speaker 2: dogs a certain way, having you know, a little bit
- 43:32Speaker 2: more patience with them because you don't want that to
- 43:34Speaker 2: rub off on your baby, will It's like, okay, but
- 43:38Speaker 2: also what about how these thoughts, this restlessness, whatever is
- 43:44Speaker 2: happening there rubs off on you?
- 43:46Speaker 3: Right? Like how do you want to feel?
- 43:48Speaker 2: And are you acting or speaking to yourself in a
- 43:50Speaker 2: way that helps you get to where you want to be?
- 43:53Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Like that's everything right there, you know,
- 43:57Speaker 1: Like I just want to make sure, like there's so
- 44:00Speaker 1: many times when I'm tired, like sleep is everything. If
- 44:02Speaker 1: I'm tired, I'm cranky and I'm going to be impatient.
- 44:06Speaker 1: But you know, I just make sure that I'm communicating
- 44:10Speaker 1: to myself. I communicate to Nick. I also communicate to
- 44:14Speaker 1: Nick with how I want to show up, and he'll
- 44:16Speaker 1: remind me. He's like, is that I don't think that's
- 44:19Speaker 1: the way you want to be And I'm like, uh,
- 44:21Speaker 1: you're right, you know, And I think that it's definitely
- 44:25Speaker 1: second time around, it's been harder to be more patient
- 44:28Speaker 1: with myself. You know. We had a lot of changes
- 44:31Speaker 1: in the past four months, like being in a new house.
- 44:35Speaker 1: I'm not with my friends anymore. We don't have a
- 44:37Speaker 1: full time nanny like we did in La. We have
- 44:40Speaker 1: like part time help. We do have Nick's family here,
- 44:43Speaker 1: but you know, they all work full time. So it's
- 44:45Speaker 1: like I'm a mom, I'm working, and I'm constantly just
- 44:50Speaker 1: trying to be zen and it's hard. It's very hard,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and I think that it's important to admit that it's hard,
- 44:58Speaker 1: but also to know that I'm strong enough to to
- 45:00Speaker 1: endure and to be patient, and that I also have
- 45:03Speaker 1: to do the work every single day. You know, I
- 45:06Speaker 1: have to meditate. I have to, even if it's three minutes.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I have to take those breaths for myself. I have
- 45:12Speaker 1: to show love to myself so I can show up
- 45:14Speaker 1: really well for Nick and Aluna and the future.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Babe, the future babe.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I love what you just said about communicating how you
- 45:25Speaker 2: want to be to your partner and having grace when
- 45:28Speaker 2: your partner reminds you of what you told them that
- 45:32Speaker 2: you want. And I think that that can be a
- 45:35Speaker 2: really beautiful tool, not only to use, obviously in this case,
- 45:40Speaker 2: within a romantic relationship, but to use within platonic relationships
- 45:46Speaker 2: or family relationships as a method of accountability. Right, So,
- 45:50Speaker 2: if you have a certain goal that you're after, maybe
- 45:55Speaker 2: we're talking a lot about mindfulness here. You said even
- 45:57Speaker 2: three minutes. If you're doing or you're aiming to do
- 46:01Speaker 2: three minutes of mindfulness work a day and it's not happening,
- 46:05Speaker 2: and you bring that up again with someone who you
- 46:07Speaker 2: had stressed that this was an important thing to you,
- 46:11Speaker 2: then you need to be open to that feedback that
- 46:14Speaker 2: someone might come back to you with and say, remember
- 46:16Speaker 2: when you told me that this is important to you,
- 46:18Speaker 2: and be willing to receive that.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, yes, one, yeah, I mean. And that's
- 46:26Speaker 1: why accountability and having those people around you that you
- 46:29Speaker 1: know will hold you accountable is so important. And it
- 46:31Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a romantic partner, you know, having
- 46:34Speaker 1: those friends. I feel like, Emily, I feel like you
- 46:36Speaker 1: are probably that you're a really good friend in that way.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Like I feel like if I were to tell you something,
- 46:41Speaker 1: you'd be like, Okay, I'm gonna hold you. I'm gonna
- 46:43Speaker 1: hold you to that.
- 46:44Speaker 2: But Tina, well you're like, let me like talk you
- 46:48Speaker 2: up for a second. You are probably one of the
- 46:52Speaker 2: ultimate hype women in my life. Like there I will
- 46:57Speaker 2: be I don't know, cleaning my apartment on Tuesday afternoon,
- 47:01Speaker 2: and I will have not spoken to you in I
- 47:03Speaker 2: don't know, maybe two months, and all of a sudden,
- 47:06Speaker 2: out of nowhere, I have a minute and a half
- 47:09Speaker 2: voice note from Bettina telling me how much that she
- 47:13Speaker 2: loves me and supports me.
- 47:16Speaker 3: God is this you?
- 47:18Speaker 1: Is it?
- 47:18Speaker 3: God?
- 47:19Speaker 2: How did you know that I needed this at this
- 47:21Speaker 2: very exact moment. You always find me in my feelings.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I love that. Oh, it makes me so happy. I'm
- 47:28Speaker 1: so glad that you like my voicemails or voice notes.
- 47:31Speaker 2: You're literally the only person that can send me a
- 47:33Speaker 2: voice note and it won't induce anxiety for me because
- 47:35Speaker 2: I know that it's going to be like kind and
- 47:37Speaker 2: compassionate and wonderful. But anyone else, whoever wants to send
- 47:41Speaker 2: me a voice note, please don't.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Just kill me, like call me so.
- 47:47Speaker 4: I can react to you, because I don't love the
- 47:50Speaker 4: like opportunity of just dropping that somewhere.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Yes, yep, yep, I get.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Don't bomb me with how you feel about something like.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Let let's have a comversation about how we both feel.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Please please Do they give you anxiety?
- 48:05Speaker 3: Do you? Voice n'tes not give you anxiety?
- 48:07Speaker 1: It depends on who they're from.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Okay, see, yeah.
- 48:10Speaker 1: It depends on who they're from. I have a few
- 48:12Speaker 1: friends that we like go back and forth on voice
- 48:15Speaker 1: notes because it's like one of those things where we
- 48:16Speaker 1: know we can just leave it and then we're good.
- 48:18Speaker 1: But then there's somewhere I'll get a random voice note
- 48:20Speaker 1: and I'm like, huh uh huh, I don't I don't.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Know if the wall is See you have the voice
- 48:28Speaker 3: notoe anxiety too.
- 48:29Speaker 2: You understand where I'm coming from, ye, like, can we
- 48:35Speaker 2: just talk on that though for just a second, about
- 48:38Speaker 2: the concept of lifting other people up and supporting others.
- 48:43Speaker 2: You know, I admire you because you truly, like fully
- 48:48Speaker 2: grasp the beauty that is the opportunity to lift others up,
- 48:52Speaker 2: knowing that doing that doesn't, you know, dull your own
- 48:57Speaker 2: light or mean that there's not the same opportunity available
- 49:01Speaker 2: to you and whatever it is that you're in pursuit of.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Do you feel as though that was a lesson that
- 49:06Speaker 2: you learned over time, this beauty of being somebody else's cheerleader,
- 49:12Speaker 2: or where do you stand on that?
- 49:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that's interesting that you asked that, because you're right,
- 49:17Speaker 1: I think that I wasn't always like that. You know,
- 49:20Speaker 1: I've been someone that's independent because I've had no choice
- 49:26Speaker 1: but to be independent. You know, my mom was a
- 49:28Speaker 1: single mom. I had to figure everything out on my own.
- 49:31Speaker 1: When I was in the band, I was trying to
- 49:34Speaker 1: figure everything out on my own, trying to figure out
- 49:36Speaker 1: if I want to play music, do all this stuff.
- 49:37Speaker 1: And then you know, I found fitness, and then I
- 49:39Speaker 1: had like this stage of like imposter syndrome. So I'm
- 49:42Speaker 1: always trying to prove myself, you know, I was always
- 49:45Speaker 1: trying to trying to be that smartest person in the room,
- 49:48Speaker 1: even though I had no idea what I was talking
- 49:50Speaker 1: about or was still learning. But as time went on,
- 49:54Speaker 1: I just realized, like community is everything, and you're not
- 49:58Speaker 1: going to know everything. And you know, the more that
- 50:01Speaker 1: you can celebrate other people, the more you can learn,
- 50:03Speaker 1: the more you can feel their energy, and the energy
- 50:06Speaker 1: you give to them is the energy you're going to
- 50:07Speaker 1: get back, and you know that's just good for everybody
- 50:10Speaker 1: all around. And so I just learned that over a
- 50:13Speaker 1: span of however many years, and it just kind of
- 50:16Speaker 1: came naturally. You know, I wanted to be everyone else's
- 50:19Speaker 1: cheerleader because you know, so many people are bringing each
- 50:21Speaker 1: other down in their own heads, you know, and they
- 50:24Speaker 1: might not even be talking to people or you know,
- 50:26Speaker 1: saying it to someone's face, but you know they're in
- 50:29Speaker 1: their own little world, like thinking this about somebody. And
- 50:33Speaker 1: I just knew that the more I could celebrate others,
- 50:35Speaker 1: the more that I'll have a big team and a
- 50:38Speaker 1: big community. And you know that, like if I ever
- 50:41Speaker 1: need someone just to pick me up, I know that
- 50:43Speaker 1: I'll have people around me to do that.
- 50:45Speaker 2: It's like the energy that you give is the energy
- 50:48Speaker 2: that you'll receive. It's been a really big thing for
- 50:51Speaker 2: me over the last six months, just this concept of
- 50:56Speaker 2: if you want love, then you have to give love,
- 50:59Speaker 2: you have to radiate love. Whatever you want back is
- 51:03Speaker 2: something that you have to be willing to give.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, it's so funny because I was even thinking
- 51:08Speaker 1: about that on social like sometimes. Like actually, I was
- 51:12Speaker 1: just listening to our last episode and I was talking
- 51:15Speaker 1: about how I never scroll on social and I was like, yeah,
- 51:18Speaker 1: I usually just check my friends, but nowadays I'm just
- 51:21Speaker 1: like that, I'm just finding myself mindlessly scrolling because it's
- 51:24Speaker 1: just like, well, how it's actually how I relax now.
- 51:27Speaker 1: But what I do is I try like every time
- 51:29Speaker 1: i'm scrolling, I just like everybody's thing because I'm like, hey,
- 51:31Speaker 1: everyone deserves ake, you know, Like, so look I might
- 51:34Speaker 1: not watch the thing all the way, but I'm like
- 51:36Speaker 1: this person deserves it, you know, And I just think
- 51:38Speaker 1: the more you can celebrate that, you know, It's it's
- 51:42Speaker 1: so cheesy, but you know, like there's so much to
- 51:45Speaker 1: go around love and energy and why not give it?
- 51:49Speaker 3: Yo?
- 51:49Speaker 2: But what a good example or clear picture that you
- 51:53Speaker 2: are following things on social that you want to give
- 51:58Speaker 2: that energy to and that actually do make you feel
- 52:01Speaker 2: good because I feel as though there are probably people
- 52:04Speaker 2: listening to this that wouldn't necessarily want to like everything
- 52:11Speaker 2: that's in their feed. So whatever you've done to construct
- 52:15Speaker 2: and like carefully curate your feeds seems to be working
- 52:18Speaker 2: for you.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess so well as a lot of baby stuff,
- 52:25Speaker 1: a lot of baby stuff.
- 52:26Speaker 2: But now that you're pregnant with number two, of course
- 52:28Speaker 2: you're you're liking all of those things exactly. So what
- 52:33Speaker 2: excites you right now aside from baby number two?
- 52:37Speaker 1: So I think now that I'm a free agent again.
- 52:41Speaker 1: You know, I'm working with Nike. You know, Nick and
- 52:44Speaker 1: I have created lineup with us where we're able to
- 52:49Speaker 1: unite our knowledge of training. You know, he's a performance
- 52:53Speaker 1: coach and I've trained the everyday person, and so we
- 52:56Speaker 1: wanted to create content that conserve people, that's accessible, and
- 53:01Speaker 1: it's inexpensive, and it's going to be something that people
- 53:05Speaker 1: can do anywhere. And that's been really exciting for me
- 53:10Speaker 1: because I've been able to kind of do it the
- 53:12Speaker 1: way that I want to do it. I'm not partnering
- 53:15Speaker 1: with a brand. I'm not partnering with anyone else except
- 53:17Speaker 1: for my husband. So we're kind of doing it the
- 53:18Speaker 1: way that we want. And you know, if it's not
- 53:21Speaker 1: for you, it's okay. You know, if it's not your
- 53:23Speaker 1: learning style, that's okay. But even better if you love
- 53:26Speaker 1: the programs, if you love the workouts and all the
- 53:28Speaker 1: things that we're bringing on there. So that's been very exciting.
- 53:32Speaker 1: We have a bunch of other stuff that we're working on.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I love being able to just continue to explore the
- 53:38Speaker 1: world and see what else I can do. It's just fun.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I think that's why, you know, I felt trapped before.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Now I'm like, Okay, what else can I do? It's exciting.
- 53:48Speaker 2: And I love your you know, opportunity growth mindset here
- 53:53Speaker 2: in that you can say it's both. It was so
- 53:58Speaker 2: beneficial for you to have that family to fall back
- 54:03Speaker 2: on at Apple and those relationships to build, but now
- 54:07Speaker 2: being back into this space that was your comfort zone
- 54:11Speaker 2: for so long, you can also find that sense of comfort,
- 54:15Speaker 2: that sense of reward and excitement here too. And you know, again,
- 54:21Speaker 2: this just goes back to you learning about yourself. Right,
- 54:24Speaker 2: So for anyone else who may be interested in trying
- 54:30Speaker 2: their own thing A Lah what you're doing, not necessarily
- 54:33Speaker 2: needing to be in the fitness space, but in whatever
- 54:35Speaker 2: industry they're in, What pieces of advice or tips do
- 54:40Speaker 2: you have to offer them for them on their journey?
- 54:43Speaker 1: You know what, You just got to do it. I
- 54:45Speaker 1: think a lot of people sit here and they write
- 54:49Speaker 1: out their plan, which is very important in all your ideas,
- 54:52Speaker 1: but then you sit on it for way too long.
- 54:54Speaker 1: You know, Like there are so many people that are
- 54:57Speaker 1: just already taking off and doing things because they try
- 55:00Speaker 1: and maybe they failed, but they learned and then they
- 55:03Speaker 1: were able to do it again and do it better.
- 55:05Speaker 1: So instead of just waiting, you just got to go.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Just got to do it.
- 55:10Speaker 3: Just got to do it, you know.
- 55:11Speaker 2: I think the lead quote on last week's episode with
- 55:15Speaker 2: Jessica Robertson from Together is there are no failures, there's
- 55:19Speaker 2: only lessons.
- 55:20Speaker 3: H Yes, it's so true.
- 55:23Speaker 2: I had another episode not all that long ago talking
- 55:25Speaker 2: about the fear of success and how so many of
- 55:28Speaker 2: us actually are really good at failing. I mean, it
- 55:32Speaker 2: doesn't necessarily mean that the blow hurts any less, but
- 55:35Speaker 2: it's something that we've become accustomed to because it truly
- 55:39Speaker 2: is such a part of everything from personal to professional.
- 55:43Speaker 2: But when it comes to success, that opens a door
- 55:46Speaker 2: to a lot of unknown that we may be completely
- 55:49Speaker 2: unfamiliar with. Right, whether that's exposure or just unlocking a
- 55:53Speaker 2: different level of your own potential, those things can be
- 55:56Speaker 2: super scary, right.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Yes, but you know you just got
- 56:00Speaker 1: to try it and like it. Just like everything, it's repetition.
- 56:03Speaker 1: You know, the more you can do it, the more
- 56:05Speaker 1: you're like, Okay, I got this, I'm going to get
- 56:07Speaker 1: up and do it again.
- 56:08Speaker 3: You know, I feel like it was just yesterday.
- 56:12Speaker 2: Uh, you know, when you announced that you were joining
- 56:15Speaker 2: the team at Apple, And I don't have you know,
- 56:18Speaker 2: the exact wording at my fingertips right now, but I
- 56:21Speaker 2: remember that it was literally like dream job unlocked. Now,
- 56:26Speaker 2: when you think about your career thus far and perhaps
- 56:32Speaker 2: something that you're the most proud of, what comes to mind.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Staying true to myself no matter what, and you know,
- 56:41Speaker 1: making sure that whatever I'm doing is serving me and
- 56:45Speaker 1: what I want for my day to day. And you know,
- 56:48Speaker 1: that job was a dream job at the time, and
- 56:51Speaker 1: I think it served its purpose in my life. But
- 56:55Speaker 1: you know, things change and things happen, and you know,
- 56:59Speaker 1: as time went on, I was like, Okay, dream job unlocked,
- 57:04Speaker 1: next step, what's next?
- 57:05Speaker 3: Yeah, what's the next dream? Right?
- 57:08Speaker 2: And I think that that goes kind of hand in
- 57:10Speaker 2: hand with the sentiment that it's okay to change the plan, right,
- 57:14Speaker 2: Like I to have gone through so many different moments
- 57:18Speaker 2: of feeling like really strong in my purpose and in
- 57:21Speaker 2: my career despite being in different roles. I remember when
- 57:24Speaker 2: I was the fitness editor itself, like literally at the time,
- 57:27Speaker 2: my absolute dream job.
- 57:29Speaker 3: But now I cannot imagine going to do.
- 57:32Speaker 2: That job every day, like it would be nothing like
- 57:35Speaker 2: what I would feel would be right for me in
- 57:39Speaker 2: this moment. But I'm six years older now, and you
- 57:42Speaker 2: are soon to be a mother of two now, and
- 57:45Speaker 2: so with time, things change and people change, and to
- 57:49Speaker 2: have the grace with yourself as you change is a
- 57:53Speaker 2: really great opportunity.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And you just have to enjoy the journey, every
- 57:57Speaker 1: single minute of it. You have to enjoy it, embrace
- 58:00Speaker 1: it because it's all a part of who you are
- 58:02Speaker 1: and it's a part of your story.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Right now, when someone goes to your social media, they
- 58:09Speaker 2: see a happy mama with a cute kiddo, another one
- 58:13Speaker 2: on the way gearing up with your new platform line
- 58:17Speaker 2: up with us. When you look in the mirror, what
- 58:20Speaker 2: is it that you see looking back at you?
- 58:25Speaker 1: I see a strong Filipina that has so many opportunities
- 58:31Speaker 1: to inspire not only other people, but her daughter, her child,
- 58:38Speaker 1: her husband, and most importantly, herself. You know, I love
- 58:42Speaker 1: being able to surprise myself, and every time I look
- 58:44Speaker 1: in the mirror, I'm like, wow, yeah, I was capable
- 58:47Speaker 1: of doing that, and you know, it hasn't been an
- 58:50Speaker 1: easy journey, but I'm super proud of everything that I've done.
- 58:55Speaker 2: I love the pride that you have for your heritage.
- 59:01Speaker 2: What do you think is a part of that that
- 59:05Speaker 2: you are most excited to pass along to your children?
- 59:09Speaker 1: I think the food. The food.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Back to the food, It's okay. I had a Christmas
- 59:14Speaker 2: tree tree. I had a Christmas tree decorating party the
- 59:17Speaker 2: other day, and you want to know, every single ornament,
- 59:20Speaker 2: for the most part, that was gifted to me had
- 59:22Speaker 2: something to do with food.
- 59:23Speaker 3: All of it.
- 59:25Speaker 1: No shame, That's so funny. No, you know, besides the food,
- 59:28Speaker 1: I think the pride, you know, just being really proud
- 59:31Speaker 1: of being Filipino. And I don't even know what it
- 59:34Speaker 1: is about Filipino as being proud of who they are.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I don't know, there's just so much. I feel like
- 59:39Speaker 1: when you meet a Filipino, you're just like, oh, you're
- 59:42Speaker 1: a Filipino. Oh my gosh, like and like people always
- 59:45Speaker 1: connect that way. Like even if you're not Filipino and
- 59:47Speaker 1: you have a friend that's Filipino and you mean no,
- 59:48Speaker 1: they we're like, oh my gosh, I have a friend
- 59:49Speaker 1: that's Filipino. I don't know what it is about being Filipino,
- 59:53Speaker 1: but it's there's something that you just love about it,
- 59:56Speaker 1: and you you know, I think growing up I wasn't.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I didn't embrace it as much as I do now,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: but I want to make sure that my children do,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: even though they're half You know, we speak to a
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: luna in Tagalog, the language of the Philippines, all the time,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: and she only knows Nick and I is Tatai and
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Nanai which is mom and dad. So you know, we
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: just want to be able to embrace her, to embrace
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: it as much as she can. And you know, I
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: tell my mom to speak to her in Tagalog and
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: hopefully she'll like the food.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: I love that sentiment of like being so excited to
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: see everyone. I think we should normalize that for just
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: like normal interaction, regardless.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Of your heritage.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: That's true, That's very true.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Can we all just be genuinely kind and excited when
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: we see one another instead of like sad and dreary
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: and cold and walking around with eight thousand scarves as
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: I am right now in New York.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: That would be great.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, so cold, so gold.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Okay, well we are winding down here right now, my friend,
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: you have an opportunity to offer yourself a piece of
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: advice looking back on getting reacquainted with your post baby
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: body after number one, what do you tell yourself during
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: that hurdle moment?
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: It's okay to cry, cry, cry, cry, let yourself cry,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: accept all the hugs, accept all the food, except all
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: the love from everyone around you. And you know, the
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: biggest thing is just to remind yourself all the things
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: that you've gone through and how worth it it's been.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: When you're looking at your baby.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: We love it. I love it. I'm so glad that
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: we were able to do this. Betina.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: How do the hurdlers fall along with you? How can
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: they line up with you? Give us the details?
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yep, you can find me at Betina, Gozo betinagozo dot
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: com and line up with us dot com and uh yeah,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that's all of them.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: I think that's all of them.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: I'm over at Hurdle Podcasts and at Emily a Body
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: another hurdle conquered.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Catch you guys next time.
