- 0:05Speaker 1: Everybody. Welcome into the Irish Steers Podcast, the podcast for
- 0:09Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers fans across the Alam of Ireland and beyond.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Football is back and the Steelers get a w to
- 0:16Speaker 1: start this season. Michael mcquid, Jimmy English, Dave og McKey.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Fantastic to have everybody on the call today and look
- 0:24Speaker 1: for everybody listening presuming is going to go out last
- 0:26Speaker 1: Sunday night Monday morning. Welcome, have a great week, Jimmy.
- 0:30Speaker 1: You're definitely gonna get off to a good start this week.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Man as Steelers win. Great to have football back, Jimmy,
- 0:36Speaker 1: all the same, isn't it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: That's fantastic And considering that Notre Dame let me down
- 0:40Speaker 2: last night making such disappointing fashion to a MAC team
- 0:44Speaker 2: which I'm still not over, I badly needed this Steelers
- 0:47Speaker 2: win and they look they got the job doing on
- 0:50Speaker 2: the road in a hostile environment in Atlanta. They ground
- 0:54Speaker 2: out to win. You know, our defense put the team
- 0:59Speaker 2: outs back as you boswell. Was fantastic and it's good
- 1:04Speaker 2: to get the season off to a start, to a
- 1:06Speaker 2: winning start, and especially given to change your quarterback at
- 1:10Speaker 2: the eleventh hour, that was an interesting development. So overall,
- 1:16Speaker 2: I am relatively happy, but I feel like this team
- 1:19Speaker 2: still has a lot to give.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think absolutely. Seventeen more weeks left in the regular season,
- 1:25Speaker 1: twenty one weeks left until the super Bowl, and hopefully
- 1:29Speaker 1: we're talking about this team all the way. Yeah, we'll
- 1:31Speaker 1: talk with that quarterback situation in a couple of minutes.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Dogg Good to see him on. Obviously, a busy few
- 1:38Speaker 1: days up here in Trome, with a championship, more wins
- 1:41Speaker 1: and losses up here than ever before. Big win for
- 1:43Speaker 1: the Steelers on Sunday night, going one on the one
- 1:47Speaker 1: the season, putting the marker down for the division. And look,
- 1:51Speaker 1: never an easy place to go to Atlanta, especially with
- 1:53Speaker 1: her and it's happened there over the offseason. I'm just
- 1:56Speaker 1: happy we won. Man, How are you doing?
- 1:58Speaker 3: I'm doing well.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 4: You imagine about the championship up here. The only championship
- 2:01Speaker 4: Time Means is interested in is the NFL, as you said,
- 2:06Speaker 4: but as you said about the division. The Ravens lost
- 2:11Speaker 4: on Thursday night, the Bengals suffered a shock to fit
- 2:14Speaker 4: to the New England Patriots, and I think the Browns
- 2:16Speaker 4: are on at the minute against the Cowboys, and let's hope.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You know that the Cowboys can do their old friends
- 2:22Speaker 4: a couple of favors. But you know, who knows. The
- 2:24Speaker 4: end of the night, we're probably going to be sitting
- 2:25Speaker 4: at the top, at the top of the toughest division
- 2:27Speaker 4: in the NFL. But I've sort of seen in the
- 2:30Speaker 4: same boat as Jimmy. You know, it was a good obviously,
- 2:33Speaker 4: get a win, but I still think this team has
- 2:35Speaker 4: a long way to go. Defense was absolutely outstanding once again.
- 2:38Speaker 4: I think we did matched that a couple of times
- 2:40Speaker 4: last year. We know what the defense brings are going
- 2:42Speaker 4: to play hard, but yeah, I think the offense still
- 2:45Speaker 4: has miles. I want to say at Myles, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 4: maybe I'll switch over a kilometers still klometers to go
- 2:50Speaker 4: if you like.
- 2:53Speaker 2: No, it's a it's a funny one. Like I mean,
- 2:55Speaker 2: I'm happy we won, obviously considering how close it was,
- 2:58Speaker 2: but it's a kind of a frustrating. And I think
- 3:00Speaker 2: because you can see the spark, you can see the
- 3:03Speaker 2: occasional flash and justin fields me either a couple of
- 3:05Speaker 2: really good hookups to the George Pickens the flashes there.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's just we need more consistency now on offense. Defense
- 3:13Speaker 2: is our defense is fantastic. I mean, I think we
- 3:17Speaker 2: had three three takeaways in total. So now let's we
- 3:20Speaker 2: need our offense to take that next step and start
- 3:24Speaker 2: putting points on the board. So it's a look, like
- 3:27Speaker 2: I said, I'm happy, but like, let's let's drive on lads.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You know, jobs all finished. And I agree, like, look,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I agree with what both of you boys are saying.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And I guess just to go on to this. First off,
- 3:38Speaker 1: we're actually recording right off of the game, which is great,
- 3:41Speaker 1: so we can actually get a bit of a fresh
- 3:42Speaker 1: take on the game, which is really really cool. So yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's one of those things I guess. I guess, Jimmie,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'll start with you. The biggest change that we had,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and this is a pre eminent sort of situation when
- 3:53Speaker 1: you record earlier in the weekend. Thanks to everybody that
- 3:55Speaker 1: tuned in and listened and interacted all week, you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: the biggest change was that quarterbacks situation we sort of
- 4:01Speaker 1: new towards the end of the week, but we didn't
- 4:02Speaker 1: really officially know until until pregame reps that we were
- 4:06Speaker 1: going to see justin fields and obviously with Russell Alla Best,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I was watching the pre game Someday Someday NFL Countdown
- 4:12Speaker 1: on the ESPN and they had Russell play at showing
- 4:15Speaker 1: on screen for four or five minutes warming up, and
- 4:18Speaker 1: there wasn't too much war going on. It was sort
- 4:20Speaker 1: of quite restrained that and I guess at that point
- 4:23Speaker 1: it became evident that Justin was going to play. And
- 4:27Speaker 1: we know that. Last week the coach Thomlin obviously as
- 4:31Speaker 1: Russell as the starter for the start of the season, like, look,
- 4:34Speaker 1: we're not gonna like I'm certainly not gonna sit here
- 4:36Speaker 1: and talk about a quarterback battle. I'm talking about the
- 4:39Speaker 1: first game of the season. But I guess in one sense, Jimmy,
- 4:42Speaker 1: it's good to see Justin get some reps out there again.
- 4:45Speaker 1: We talked all off season about how I certainly don't
- 4:48Speaker 1: think he was given enough time or space in Chicago,
- 4:51Speaker 1: especially in the market that he was in to have
- 4:53Speaker 1: that and to go into Atlanta, and I know there's
- 4:56Speaker 1: a long way to go. There's a lot more building
- 4:57Speaker 1: to go into Atlanta with Kirk and ever in the
- 5:01Speaker 1: keym and the expectation of that Falcons team and the
- 5:04Speaker 1: grind on a result in the most you're bang on
- 5:06Speaker 1: the most staeos way possible. It's one of those things
- 5:11Speaker 1: I really enjoyed seeing Justin run. Just want to see
- 5:13Speaker 1: in the next level now. And like obviously at the
- 5:15Speaker 1: time of recording, Jimmy, we don't know if if Russell
- 5:18Speaker 1: will be back for a week two, so we'll just
- 5:20Speaker 1: take it and we'll be back during the week to
- 5:22Speaker 1: talk about that. We'll try and go as late as
- 5:23Speaker 1: we can. But then one hundred ft six yards for
- 5:28Speaker 1: Justin through the air. He had fifty seven rushing yards,
- 5:31Speaker 1: zero touchdowns, so there's definitely something to improve on there.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think we all kind of had
- 5:36Speaker 2: an inkling Michael during the week when there was news
- 5:39Speaker 2: of Wilson's injury and the calf strain that Fields was
- 5:42Speaker 2: going to start. So it wasn't much of a surprise
- 5:45Speaker 2: when we got the news a couple of hours before
- 5:47Speaker 2: the game that I was official. And look, I think
- 5:50Speaker 2: Justin handled himself very well. He ran the offense very efficiently,
- 5:53Speaker 2: gave me he almost give me a heart attack with
- 5:55Speaker 2: that bubble snap at the first play of the game,
- 5:59Speaker 2: and I was like, my god, let's not let's not
- 6:01Speaker 2: do this.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Such a week one play. Wasn't it like such a
- 6:05Speaker 1: weak one player.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It was just it was reminiscent of the preseason. I
- 6:08Speaker 2: was like, if this is going to be the team
- 6:10Speaker 2: of the evening, we're going to be in for a
- 6:11Speaker 2: long night. But he he gave a great account of himself.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It took a while to get going. I think you
- 6:18Speaker 2: were light a bit on his legs, which is great,
- 6:19Speaker 2: and we all know what he can do when he runs.
- 6:23Speaker 2: But he showed that connection with George Pickens. I mean
- 6:27Speaker 2: he had a couple of beautiful deep passes and a
- 6:30Speaker 2: couple of you know, really nice plays where he rolled
- 6:34Speaker 2: one way and then came back and throw it through
- 6:36Speaker 2: to the opposite side of the field, which kind of
- 6:38Speaker 2: confounded the Falcons defense a little bit. So I look,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I think I think regardless of who had started tonight,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think it was going to be a similar outcoming.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I mean, both these quarterbacks are still adjusting to the offense.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's it's a new offense underd Smith. They're both trying
- 6:53Speaker 2: to build chemistry with the receivers and established themselves as
- 6:57Speaker 2: the starting quarterback. But I think overall, Justin did that.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You know, he did his best tonight and look, we
- 7:06Speaker 2: can we can build on this now and hopefully he
- 7:09Speaker 2: can start scoring touchdowns either with his legs or two receivers.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'd obviously a sixty yard run from Justin next week
- 7:17Speaker 1: if he does play for as much signed dollg And
- 7:20Speaker 1: we'll talk more over the quarterbacks during the week, of course,
- 7:22Speaker 1: But just have you any sort of feedback on what
- 7:24Speaker 1: you've seen from Justin, Like I we've seen certain players. Obviously,
- 7:29Speaker 1: when you've got guys like Ben Roethlisberger sitting in their
- 7:31Speaker 1: mid to lay at thirties, it's hard to expect the
- 7:33Speaker 1: guy that that running. But I actually find it quite
- 7:36Speaker 1: refreshing to see a Russian quarterback and it was positive
- 7:39Speaker 1: way possible.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's it's one of those things where
- 7:44Speaker 4: it's going to take time to adjust to the whole,
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know, the setup Arthur Smith, you know, first game,
- 7:49Speaker 4: I'd say that was a sweet final lessel.
- 7:51Speaker 3: For m certainly justin face. You know, I think he
- 7:54Speaker 3: brought what we've sort of expected.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You know, it's going to take a bit of time,
- 7:57Speaker 4: as you would expect, just as Jimmy said about you
- 7:59Speaker 4: know that this ups At the start of the game, I.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Was thinking, oh, no, here we go. But he adjusted brilliantly.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I thought, you know, with everything that was thrown on him,
- 8:08Speaker 4: just obviously, if there is going to be a massive
- 8:10Speaker 4: positive on the offensive side of the ball, it has
- 8:12Speaker 4: to be George Pekins. I mean, this is a lot
- 8:15Speaker 4: that we know is a special colent and he's been
- 8:18Speaker 4: dealing with so far in his young career not the
- 8:21Speaker 4: best quarterback play. So at the same time, it's one
- 8:23Speaker 4: of those things where it's going to take time for
- 8:26Speaker 4: him to just as well. But I think this really
- 8:27Speaker 4: could be a breakout year if we get that sea words,
- 8:30Speaker 4: just as Jimmy said, consistency with a quarterback play, I
- 8:33Speaker 4: think this lad can can take it to the absolute heights.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You know, we just know how good he is.
- 8:37Speaker 4: But I sort of just echo both both years have said,
- 8:41Speaker 4: you know, we got sort of what we expected from
- 8:42Speaker 4: justin Fields, but he's a long way to go and
- 8:44Speaker 4: who knows what will happen in the next couple of weeks.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Obviously with Russ's injury, it's all playing here. But on
- 8:49Speaker 4: the Danford also, why I'm looking at.
- 8:50Speaker 5: It, Pickens has definitely been lacking or an elite quarterback
- 8:55Speaker 5: about like you say, and you can you can see
- 8:57Speaker 5: already that that that connection I mean, justin Fields and
- 9:00Speaker 5: Pickens are already building that connection.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I mean, there's there was two beautiful deep passes, so
- 9:04Speaker 2: I know one was kind of one was missed, but
- 9:09Speaker 2: there was. I think he had two massive completions to Pickens,
- 9:12Speaker 2: And look, it's just it's just about building that relationship
- 9:16Speaker 2: now and finding a rhythm and finding a rhythm more
- 9:19Speaker 2: finding a rhythm earlier in the game I think is
- 9:21Speaker 2: going to be crucial regardless of who starts, get some
- 9:24Speaker 2: nice early completions to the receivers. Hopefully we'll have we'll
- 9:29Speaker 2: have more options. I mean, let's just quickly mention Pat
- 9:32Speaker 2: Farmaut not to get off, not to get off tangent
- 9:34Speaker 2: here at all, but he had the massive extension during
- 9:39Speaker 2: the weekend. I think he's gonna The Steelers are obviously
- 9:42Speaker 2: keen to keep him around, and I think he's going
- 9:43Speaker 2: to become an important or an even more important aspect
- 9:46Speaker 2: of the offense, perhaps even standing out as the number
- 9:49Speaker 2: two receiver this season.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, just to add on that, guy, agree, well, just
- 9:53Speaker 1: what you were just saying, it's it's getting that consistent again.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Like guess it's great that we have that full week
- 9:58Speaker 1: night of rest before the game. Against Denver, another away
- 10:01Speaker 1: game and then just before home slits in week three,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and then away game and week four. Not really when
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's the fact a home game in Dublin for US lads,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and you know you see teams like Miami and Buffalo
- 10:12Speaker 1: are now playing on Thursday night, so you've got that week.
- 10:16Speaker 1: At the time of recording, obviously we're just going out
- 10:17Speaker 1: of the early window and the Bengals have lost, so
- 10:20Speaker 1: you know, a decent starting now in the afc orp
- 10:22Speaker 1: and o't look, I'll take a win every day. Our
- 10:25Speaker 1: friend ton Diggs but A tweeted, I think he's gonna
- 10:28Speaker 1: come in the podcast soon, folks. We need to see
- 10:31Speaker 1: more from Gille and Moore and I seem being given
- 10:34Speaker 1: the ball more as well. Only two carries tonight, so
- 10:36Speaker 1: hopefully it does change. And Nage had a nice now
- 10:39Speaker 1: start twenty carry seventy yards. We'll try to improve that
- 10:42Speaker 1: next week. Before we look in the game in more detail,
- 10:44Speaker 1: let's hear from caedars Head coach Mike Comin.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Man, I'm just really appreciative of the efforts of our guys.
- 10:52Speaker 6: It was a fight. Obviously we weren't perfect.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Man.
- 10:55Speaker 6: This week one, like things particularly early on in the game.
- 10:59Speaker 6: We want to it defensively, man. We dropped a pick
- 11:02Speaker 6: or something there early. They converted some third downs and
- 11:05Speaker 6: started the game with the field goal, and you know
- 11:07Speaker 6: that's why, that's not why we put our defense on
- 11:09Speaker 6: the field to start the game. We had some fumbled
- 11:11Speaker 6: CQ exchanges on offense. We were shooting ourselves in the foot.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Some drives got stopped. You know, you're kicking field goals, man,
- 11:19Speaker 6: in the hostile environment versus a good group, man, you
- 11:23Speaker 6: know you're in danger. And so I'm just really appreciative
- 11:25Speaker 6: that we're able to get it done. We got things
- 11:28Speaker 6: to work on, but it's really good to work on
- 11:31Speaker 6: your ills with a W, and so we're gonna do that.
- 11:35Speaker 6: You know, you start this season man on the road. Man,
- 11:37Speaker 6: it's thirty two teams start this thing undefeated, and it's
- 11:40Speaker 6: just good to get your first one on the road.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Half this league is obviously not gonna be winners this week,
- 11:45Speaker 6: and to get on the road and get out of
- 11:47Speaker 6: the gate with a W, it's something that I respect,
- 11:50Speaker 6: and it's really exciting for the guys. From a health standpoint,
- 11:53Speaker 6: you know, Cam Johnston appears to have a serious injury.
- 11:57Speaker 6: I have an update for you next time we come together.
- 11:59Speaker 6: It's a shame for him. This guy has been spectacular
- 12:03Speaker 6: man through team development. He's an absolute stud not only
- 12:06Speaker 6: in his talents but his approach to business. And so
- 12:09Speaker 6: you know, my heart goes out to him. Darius Rush
- 12:13Speaker 6: is being evaluated for a concussion. I don't know whether
- 12:17Speaker 6: it is or is it, but as the game ended,
- 12:19Speaker 6: he was being evaluated in that way. We had some
- 12:22Speaker 6: bumps and bruises, some guys go out, but those guys
- 12:24Speaker 6: came back in d Jack, Joey Porter. But I'm just
- 12:29Speaker 6: really appreciative of how the team supported one another and
- 12:32Speaker 6: fought through. And that's what teams do. You know. The
- 12:38Speaker 6: case in point is we gave up a drive there
- 12:41Speaker 6: before the half, and our offense went down the field
- 12:43Speaker 6: and got a field goal to respond, and and that
- 12:47Speaker 6: was important. Obviously, you saw our defense stand up several
- 12:50Speaker 6: times in support of our offense. We had some unique
- 12:53Speaker 6: contributions today, like Scottie Miller as a backup holder. You know,
- 12:57Speaker 6: look at your flip card, man, you don't see a
- 12:58Speaker 6: backup holder on that flip art. So we just really
- 13:01Speaker 6: appreciative of unique skill sets that help us win can't
- 13:05Speaker 6: say enough about Bars, not only in terms of him
- 13:09Speaker 6: kicking the ball, but but that punt was timely. TJ.
- 13:14Speaker 6: White always delivers when it gets thick. We don't take
- 13:17Speaker 6: that for granted. We appreciate it, we don't take it
- 13:19Speaker 6: for granted. And so there's a lot of efforts to
- 13:23Speaker 6: speak to but largely, man, we're just thankful to come
- 13:26Speaker 6: into this place and and get this victory and kind
- 13:29Speaker 6: of move on with our journey. All pausing and opened
- 13:31Speaker 6: up for questions. You wanted to pass on the field
- 13:34Speaker 6: goal there, The previous drive is touch on the flyfars
- 13:39Speaker 6: just you know we're gonna live that life. We don't
- 13:41Speaker 6: live in our fears.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:42Speaker 6: We play and play to win. If you can't get
- 13:45Speaker 6: fourth and one, man, sometimes you don't deserve to win.
- 13:48Speaker 6: And that's just a philosophical approach that we live by.
- 13:51Speaker 6: I believe in our bigs. I've talked to you guys
- 13:53Speaker 6: repeatedly that we're going to ride the wave that our
- 13:55Speaker 6: bigs on offense and defense provide and we mean it.
- 13:58Speaker 6: Obviously we didn't get it done right there, but we
- 14:01Speaker 6: still live that life.
- 14:03Speaker 2: How do you evaluate the job.
- 14:04Speaker 6: That Justin Fields did today, especially settling in as the
- 14:07Speaker 6: game went on, really appreciative of his efforts in his place.
- 14:10Speaker 6: Certainly what happened in Bregan.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Where can you take it to that decision making progressis Russ?
- 14:15Speaker 6: Even in consideration, it's really, you know, not a long
- 14:18Speaker 6: drawn out process. I'd rather deal with short term busray
- 14:22Speaker 6: to be quite honest with you. We're in week one,
- 14:25Speaker 6: there's a lot of ball out in front of us.
- 14:27Speaker 6: I just thought it was appropriate to put the healthy
- 14:28Speaker 6: guys on the field. I felt really good about both quarterbacks.
- 14:31Speaker 6: I was very clear to you guys when I named
- 14:34Speaker 6: Russ the start of how comfortable I was with both quarterbacks.
- 14:37Speaker 6: And so if that is true, why not be really
- 14:39Speaker 6: comfortable with playing Justin under the circumstances with Russ being
- 14:43Speaker 6: in less than ideal physical shape. And so that was
- 14:45Speaker 6: the thought process. It wasn't a lot of discussion. Russ
- 14:48Speaker 6: was very supportive to day and that was appreciated, but
- 14:50Speaker 6: we went with Justin. Man. I'm glad we got two
- 14:52Speaker 6: real capable quarterbacks. As I mentioned before.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Great de hear for coach Tummel on the Irish students
- 14:57Speaker 1: plod const as we can't a wait through week one
- 15:00Speaker 1: going into early week two thoughts. But let's stick on
- 15:03Speaker 1: this game against the Falcons. You know, you lads, Jimmy
- 15:06Speaker 1: starting yourself, you lads mentioned it there. The defense today
- 15:10Speaker 1: won this game among another player, which we'll talk about
- 15:13Speaker 1: in the second with Jimmy, you know, taking your Steelers
- 15:16Speaker 1: hat off from watching every other game in the early
- 15:18Speaker 1: windo because they had two screens on at the one
- 15:20Speaker 1: time that that defense stood out among so many. I'm
- 15:24Speaker 1: proud to say they're in my fantasy team. But just
- 15:27Speaker 1: a superb performance. And you know, it's one thing, Carrion,
- 15:31Speaker 1: it's another thing. You can see hopefully that progression over
- 15:34Speaker 1: the next few weeks on the offense, and you think
- 15:36Speaker 1: to yourself, Jimmy, if the offense can get it together
- 15:38Speaker 1: in a good way over the next few weeks, even more,
- 15:41Speaker 1: this defense is right up there at the top bars
- 15:44Speaker 1: in that league.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Absolutely, Michael. They're just building and building, and what they
- 15:48Speaker 2: already established last year is one of the best defenses
- 15:51Speaker 2: in the NFL. And it's just waiting now for the
- 15:53Speaker 2: offense to catch up. As you're saying, if we can
- 15:56Speaker 2: get both sides of the ball, you know, performing at
- 15:58Speaker 2: that that file level. I think this team, this team
- 16:01Speaker 2: will be special and unstoppable. But you look what the
- 16:04Speaker 2: defense did tonight. He had two interceptions both from DB's
- 16:09Speaker 2: who he only picked up this offseason, Deshaun Elliott and
- 16:14Speaker 2: Dante Jackson. I mean, two fantastic takeaways there. And then
- 16:17Speaker 2: of course t J. Watt like just doing what TJ
- 16:20Speaker 2: Watt does and being an absolute force off the edge
- 16:24Speaker 2: two strip sacks that didn't count obviously for the penalties,
- 16:29Speaker 2: but then he had the fantastic fumble recovery on that
- 16:33Speaker 2: kind of botch snap, the botched exchange, and just like
- 16:36Speaker 2: he just he's just a game changer. He just disrupted
- 16:39Speaker 2: the entire the entire Falcons defensive line and finishing the
- 16:44Speaker 2: game strong. Then with the sack of Kirk Cousins at
- 16:46Speaker 2: the end, we should really mention Cam Hayward Amongstravius Adams
- 16:50Speaker 2: as well, who had the other sack and they shared
- 16:53Speaker 2: the sack of Kirk Cousins. So look that that defense
- 16:56Speaker 2: is just phenomenal and TJ is leading from the front
- 16:59Speaker 2: as as usual. It's just it's just a joy to
- 17:03Speaker 2: watch and they really are the strength of the team
- 17:05Speaker 2: and the reason why the Steelers are competitive at the minute.
- 17:09Speaker 1: That lot is going to be very very blunt here
- 17:11Speaker 1: and let you talk away that defense. The performance that
- 17:14Speaker 1: defense today will be showing across national television to Margot
- 17:18Speaker 1: more than football. Jimmy's mentioned someone. The names there just
- 17:22Speaker 1: standout performances. If they can do this every week, I'm
- 17:25Speaker 1: going to be getting up every Sunday or every Monday
- 17:27Speaker 1: or every Thursday excited to watch the lads in the
- 17:30Speaker 1: Black and gold.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Great performance, absolutely just outstanding, as I said, from early
- 17:35Speaker 4: and just staco everything. Jimmy says again, I mean, I
- 17:38Speaker 4: think we talked about it last year. I think the
- 17:40Speaker 4: Cleveland Browns had arguably the best unit in the league.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Their defense was setting up historical figures. I think this
- 17:46Speaker 4: defense is even better. And that's how good if we
- 17:49Speaker 4: can stay fits, I mean, we're just stacked pop. The
- 17:51Speaker 4: Queen as well is debuting the Black and Gold. Fantastic,
- 17:54Speaker 4: covered every blade of grass and you know TG Watts.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I mean, I can't really back up. I have to
- 18:00Speaker 4: just back up everything Jimmy said. He's he's taking all
- 18:02Speaker 4: the words from it. Incredible, You're okay, it's I can
- 18:07Speaker 4: just back you up.
- 18:08Speaker 1: He looked possessed. He looked possessed.
- 18:11Speaker 2: He was he was playing angry, and that's that's when
- 18:14Speaker 2: that's when he's at his best, when he's playing angry.
- 18:16Speaker 2: There was one I think it was the first stripsack
- 18:19Speaker 2: from the recovery that was called back because he was offside.
- 18:22Speaker 2: People can't see me my my air quotes. He was
- 18:25Speaker 2: not offside. He tied his he timed his rush to perfection.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But we won't go into the officiating because I want
- 18:31Speaker 2: to get myself wound up. But you can see when
- 18:34Speaker 2: he can. You can see when he came off the sideline,
- 18:36Speaker 2: he was livid and he said to himself, right, well,
- 18:39Speaker 2: kind of what do I have to do to to
- 18:40Speaker 2: get his to get his stripsack here? And you can
- 18:43Speaker 2: just tell from that point on he was playing, he
- 18:45Speaker 2: was playing angry, and with the results speak from himself
- 18:48Speaker 2: like I mean, he I'm not going to go as
- 18:50Speaker 2: far to say that he's single handedly won us that game,
- 18:53Speaker 2: because it was a team effort on both sides of
- 18:55Speaker 2: the ball and there are other contributors on defense, but TJ.
- 19:01Speaker 2: He was just channeling that that that what name, you know,
- 19:03Speaker 2: he was just living up to that legendary status that
- 19:06Speaker 2: the Wats have around the NFL. And if that's that's
- 19:09Speaker 2: when of the start of what we're going to see
- 19:11Speaker 2: this season, didn't I'm so excited for what's ahead.
- 19:14Speaker 4: It's important to remember as well, it's trying like it's
- 19:16Speaker 4: important members well. The Falcons offensive line as well, is
- 19:19Speaker 4: one of the best offensive lines in the league. And
- 19:21Speaker 4: he absolutely I think it's Caleb mcgyary the right tackle.
- 19:24Speaker 4: He's gonna have night murse tonight and fortunately for him
- 19:26Speaker 4: because t J. Watt was just all over him. Cal
- 19:29Speaker 4: Pets as well. I don't I don't you know, obviously
- 19:31Speaker 4: didn't watch a lot of them in college. I don't
- 19:33Speaker 4: know what his past blog is like, but this tonight
- 19:36Speaker 4: it's either he just didn't show up or TJ. Watt
- 19:38Speaker 4: was just behind him in every single shot. So I'm
- 19:41Speaker 4: just gonna echo everything you've said there. Incredible, just awfully incredible.
- 19:45Speaker 3: It was.
- 19:45Speaker 1: It was a great performance and I already can't wait
- 19:47Speaker 1: to see it's gonna happen WIG two. And I'm sure,
- 19:49Speaker 1: as you said, Jimmy there and the Watt family, I'm
- 19:52Speaker 1: sure coach Cahier, JJ and the CBS studio were watching
- 19:55Speaker 1: that laughing and going wow, so great to see. Just
- 19:59Speaker 1: to wrap up, if we had a standout from each
- 20:02Speaker 1: of us lads. I'll go first, Chris Boswell six from
- 20:05Speaker 1: six like money, like the fifty seven yard I remember
- 20:08Speaker 1: sitting watching like fifty seven yards Week one like that. Yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 1: he made it look easy, like but every point of
- 20:14Speaker 1: the eighteen points. And Jimmy, when you've got that new
- 20:17Speaker 1: offense which then had to look at its QB two
- 20:20Speaker 1: and be in that situation away from home week one,
- 20:23Speaker 1: your guards are up, your special teams playoff and obviously
- 20:27Speaker 1: we with Cameron Johnson the best and his recovery from
- 20:29Speaker 1: injury as well. Boswell even came in and punted it
- 20:31Speaker 1: and I know looks can kick, but still that's that's
- 20:35Speaker 1: not an easy situation, but great, great performance.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Who have you got have to feel bad for Cameron
- 20:39Speaker 2: Johnson as well. I'm pretty sure that was the first
- 20:41Speaker 2: point of the night where you got injured, which also speaks,
- 20:45Speaker 2: I suppose, if it speaks to how well I suppose
- 20:48Speaker 2: the offense did function in a way and how how
- 20:52Speaker 2: much we can rely on Chris Boswell to come in
- 20:54Speaker 2: in those situations and be ninety nine point nine nine
- 20:57Speaker 2: nine percent guarantee that you're gonna get point to the
- 21:00Speaker 2: board with his leg and he was just he was
- 21:02Speaker 2: driving them down the middle with the ease. I mean
- 21:04Speaker 2: that fifty seven yard could have been good from sixty seven.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You know, he was just banging them so that it
- 21:10Speaker 2: was like, it's just a joy to watch. And then
- 21:12Speaker 2: his punt of course, I mean, look, the man can
- 21:15Speaker 2: do it all, so it's great. Did your stand that
- 21:18Speaker 2: I have to go TJ, have to go TJ Watt
- 21:21Speaker 2: And just based on you know, his overall performance, I
- 21:24Speaker 2: think he might have started off a little bit slow
- 21:26Speaker 2: and I was kind of thinking out, what where's TJ at?
- 21:29Speaker 2: And then he just came to life with those splash plays,
- 21:31Speaker 2: and those splash plays hard back to the days of
- 21:34Speaker 2: Dick to the Bow, Dickle Bow. You know. He was
- 21:36Speaker 2: all about the splash plays, the big plays, and they
- 21:39Speaker 2: were they were, they were. He was making them in
- 21:41Speaker 2: spades tonight, just living in the backfield terrorizing Kirk Cousins.
- 21:46Speaker 2: As David mentioned there, he Cayle Pitts just could not
- 21:49Speaker 2: get his hands in them, nor could the offensive line.
- 21:52Speaker 2: So he's definitely might stand out player, and I think
- 21:56Speaker 2: MVP has to be Boswell, but it's second second choice
- 22:01Speaker 2: would have to be t J. Watt definitely after that display.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Dog who is your stand up minute?
- 22:06Speaker 4: Yeah, No, used to put great arguments aheads there. You
- 22:09Speaker 4: know Boswell, the Wizard of Boss as we call them.
- 22:11Speaker 4: I think it's a square handle as well. And he
- 22:14Speaker 4: can do it all. You know, if you know even
- 22:17Speaker 4: who knows he can put him in a quarterback, you
- 22:18Speaker 4: just never know what that's you never know.
- 22:20Speaker 3: You would be as abraid, but what he could do.
- 22:22Speaker 4: And I think even the commentator said he's the most
- 22:25Speaker 4: accurate kicker from fifty plus. I think I read that.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I think something ridiculous. I think he's had like he.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Definitely was today. I way, so far, he's been fantastic.
- 22:34Speaker 4: As Jimmy said, ninety numbercent of the time, you just
- 22:36Speaker 4: know we're gonna come off a points.
- 22:37Speaker 3: He doesn't miss. Shout out as well to Shaun Elliott, you.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Know, an impressive interception in the first quarter of his
- 22:42Speaker 4: dealer's career. But my standup performer, a friend of the
- 22:46Speaker 4: Pauloge we had him all earlier in the year, Dante Jackson.
- 22:49Speaker 4: He dropped you know what you considered maybe an easy
- 22:52Speaker 4: interception in the first quarter. I think he give Way
- 22:54Speaker 4: Selly penalty for the script sack one TGS watch strip
- 22:57Speaker 4: sacks as well, but what a way at about backing me.
- 23:00Speaker 4: It shows about is resilience to come up massively with
- 23:03Speaker 4: an important interceaption diversity security. The victory albeit Kerk Cousins
- 23:06Speaker 4: did give him a massive handlet, but in Matpennion showed
- 23:09Speaker 4: massive character to bounce back from that. So fantastic delighted
- 23:12Speaker 4: for Dante and then he's my set on a performer
- 23:15Speaker 4: for those reasons.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Love it, boys, I love it, and it's look, it's
- 23:18Speaker 1: it's funny because when you actually have football, there's so
- 23:20Speaker 1: much to talk about and it's so much easier to
- 23:22Speaker 1: actually do podcast in a great way. But obviously it's
- 23:25Speaker 1: been great listening to people and hearing people's thoughts over
- 23:27Speaker 1: the offseason as well, and a really interesting collexist for
- 23:31Speaker 1: the Staders coming up, the Broncos coming up next Sunday.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I feel like in terms of what's going on around
- 23:37Speaker 1: russ and everything else, we'll probably try and get another
- 23:39Speaker 1: podcast in probably literal in the week around first there so,
- 23:42Speaker 1: so if you do have any questions, please use the
- 23:43Speaker 1: hashtag staterers Ireland and then for anyone listening or watching
- 23:47Speaker 1: game against the Chargers and Week three and then the
- 23:50Speaker 1: game against the cold Sweak four. Both those games are
- 23:52Speaker 1: six o'clock. I t the game next week is in
- 23:54Speaker 1: the second window with nine to twenty five. That game
- 23:56Speaker 1: in Week four and has a there's a watch party
- 24:00Speaker 1: go park. Like the first part is sold out, but
- 24:02Speaker 1: there's also an area called the End Zone, which is
- 24:05Speaker 1: a newly developed space for more Steelers and NFL fans
- 24:08Speaker 1: to join the Steelers at a fantastic event. Sold out.
- 24:12Speaker 1: We were all there last year and it was great,
- 24:14Speaker 1: great cracks, So definitely looking forward to it. Any final words,
- 24:17Speaker 1: boys before we wrap up until at least.
- 24:19Speaker 2: In the middle of the just more offense, more consistency
- 24:22Speaker 2: and offense just to you know, kind of reinforce that point.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And I think it'll be interesting to see how the
- 24:28Speaker 2: quarterback situation plays out, whether Russ can go in Week
- 24:31Speaker 2: two or whether they decide to give to give justin
- 24:35Speaker 2: the reins based on what he's done, not that he's
- 24:38Speaker 2: done a huge amount so far, when he is building
- 24:40Speaker 2: that chemistry with George Piggins, so you don't want to
- 24:43Speaker 2: have that build up and then for Kings to change.
- 24:45Speaker 2: So I think it's going to be a very interesting
- 24:48Speaker 2: situation to monitor throughout the week.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Let's score for your touchdowns, that's what I want.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I think the best way of said
- 24:54Speaker 1: that log is keep her, let keep let's go.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Let's get it up a notch, you know, score for
- 24:59Speaker 4: you to stands. You know, the main thing in WAK
- 25:02Speaker 4: one is the win. But yeah, let's hope they get
- 25:04Speaker 4: a few touchdowns. Next week in Denver, we'll slay home happy.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Chris Boswell is definitely gonna have a week in the
- 25:10Speaker 1: mile high SELLI with the elevation anyway, hopefully we're just
- 25:14Speaker 1: using them for extra points as well.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Next week we'll see.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Look, lads, one in one win, we'll take it. We'll
- 25:20Speaker 1: move on, We'll we'll adopt as well. Really eager to
- 25:23Speaker 1: hear everybody's thoughts hashtags Staters Ireland to check out Steeters Ireland.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's at Staeters Ireland on x and Instagram as well,
- 25:30Speaker 1: and we will chat to you guys during the week.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Here we go, Here we go.
