- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench.
- 0:01Speaker 2: We have to Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 3: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:04Speaker 2: The plays get broken down and science gets denied the Bench.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 2: Kine Studio.
- 0:45Speaker 1: All right, welcome back in o t B. Here live
- 0:49Speaker 1: from Tampa, continuing our coverage of SEC media days.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Speaking of the river being wed, we are right here
- 0:58Speaker 3: waterfront in Tampa, Florida, Tampa, Florida, USA, right here, and
- 1:05Speaker 3: uh man, they got us live in high society in
- 1:08Speaker 3: these fancy hotels right here on the bay.
- 1:10Speaker 1: It is. It's got. Have you you been to Miami before?
- 1:13Speaker 3: I mean, I'm paying once. I came to Tampa one time.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I think it was was that our rookie year when
- 1:19Speaker 3: the super Bowl was here was their second year, our
- 1:24Speaker 3: rookie year. I thought it was in like an indoor stadium.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Maybe I don't think, because I think it was here
- 1:30Speaker 3: our rookie year. It was the next year the Cardinals
- 1:32Speaker 3: right then the next year it was something or Detroit
- 1:36Speaker 3: or something. I don't know. I guess it could have been.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I remember we came down here because we always had
- 1:42Speaker 3: access to Super Bowl tickets and you would get them
- 1:46Speaker 3: at face value. So most of the people, especially people
- 1:49Speaker 3: on rookie contracts, we would buy as many tickets as
- 1:52Speaker 3: we could through a player.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It was Steelers Arizona here in Tampa, yes.
- 1:57Speaker 3: And the next year was New Orleans and South Beach, right, yes,
- 2:01Speaker 3: So we'd always go and but you had to we
- 2:03Speaker 3: get his Nate tickets. We could, so we could we
- 2:05Speaker 3: could sell them, uh and say, you'd always.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Have to cuts not within the rules, Matthew, why you
- 2:13Speaker 1: can't sell your super Bowl ticket? But I owned them
- 2:15Speaker 1: after I bought them, you know, and I know that
- 2:18Speaker 1: you still can't do that.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I didn't. I hadn't come, I hadn't come
- 2:22Speaker 3: here to get them though, so I could definitely go.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I could definitely use them and go. Yeah, so you
- 2:27Speaker 3: had to come and get them in person, though, that
- 2:29Speaker 3: was the rule, So you can. I'm pretty sure that
- 2:32Speaker 3: they could do whatever you ever. Once you had them,
- 2:34Speaker 3: you could do whatever you wanted with them.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So I don't think I think people have actually gotten
- 2:38Speaker 1: in trouble for selling their Super Bowl tickets value. So
- 2:46Speaker 1: you flew from Green Bay to Tampa to pick up
- 2:49Speaker 1: tickets and then sold them for face value.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it made it worthwhile. Oh yeah, yep, for sure.
- 2:54Speaker 3: It definitely didn't pay for the trip. Hmm plus a
- 2:59Speaker 3: little that's a little profit one.
- 3:02Speaker 1: See, that's the difference between like quarterbacks and fullback. See,
- 3:06Speaker 1: everybody around me was doing that. I'm like, look, you
- 3:08Speaker 1: ain't about to catch my ass getting cut because I
- 3:11Speaker 1: was selling Super Bowl tickets.
- 3:12Speaker 3: No one was watching.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But if they would, who's the first to go the
- 3:16Speaker 1: full back back? That's a good point. So we also
- 3:20Speaker 1: seventh round quarterback. That's true, that's fair. But you did
- 3:23Speaker 1: beat out a second round pick. Yep, so you're basically
- 3:26Speaker 1: like a fourth round yeah, with about four and a
- 3:28Speaker 1: half five Yeah, yeah, story of your life, you know
- 3:31Speaker 1: what I'm saying. All Right, So we got Kentucky, we've
- 3:35Speaker 1: got Miszoo, Oklahoma, and you gotta be excited to hopefully
- 3:40Speaker 1: like find your way to talk to a tier. He
- 3:42Speaker 1: feels like you're kind of guy.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Is that? Let's see looking at the list, is he
- 3:47Speaker 3: see the only quarterback here today?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Minschi's here from Kentucky.
- 3:50Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. But I'm excited to see to
- 3:55Speaker 3: hear from a tire. I'm sure he'll get a lot
- 3:59Speaker 3: of you know, of course, Oklahoma playoff team. But my god,
- 4:02Speaker 3: did they look depleted on offense a lot last year.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Because after he broke his thumb or whatever.
- 4:08Speaker 3: But he had surgery the week you, same week he played.
- 4:10Speaker 1: So that's what I'm saying. I don't think it ever
- 4:13Speaker 1: fully healed and you would be able to speak what
- 4:16Speaker 1: your throwing hand thumb would do for you.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's what separates us from the animals thumbs
- 4:21Speaker 3: heard that as well. Yeah, so uh, pretty big deal,
- 4:25Speaker 3: I would say, especially if you're trying to grow up
- 4:27Speaker 3: and throw a football at a very high level on
- 4:30Speaker 3: a playoff caliber team. So yeah, it's I think that
- 4:36Speaker 3: John Mattire is one of these kind of dark horses
- 4:41Speaker 3: leading into this SEC. I think there was a lot
- 4:44Speaker 3: of buzz with him last year. It's a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 3: the unknown, like all the things he was able to
- 4:49Speaker 3: do in Washington State, like the things he was able
- 4:51Speaker 3: to do there, and of course like coming off the
- 4:53Speaker 3: heels of camp Ward and what he did from Washington
- 4:56Speaker 3: saying and then going to Miami, like could Matir kind
- 4:59Speaker 3: of to bring the same energy.
- 5:01Speaker 1: To the sect hisself?
- 5:03Speaker 3: And he was like and look, he was a dark
- 5:05Speaker 3: like a lot of people were. There was a lot
- 5:08Speaker 3: of buzz with him last year, even with like the
- 5:11Speaker 3: you know at the time, all these for sure top
- 5:15Speaker 3: draft pick quarterbacks that were in the SEC that didn't
- 5:19Speaker 3: pan out, of course, but like they were still talking
- 5:21Speaker 3: about I don't really feel like that buzz is anywhere
- 5:25Speaker 3: close to it was last year at this time. Now
- 5:28Speaker 3: we'll see throughout the week and especially today with Oklahoma going.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But he didn't get worse the football since last year,
- 5:36Speaker 3: I can promise you that. And I don't think that
- 5:39Speaker 3: the injury and what he had to play through and
- 5:41Speaker 3: what he did play through and not to the best
- 5:43Speaker 3: of his ability, I don't think that, you know, I
- 5:46Speaker 3: don't think that gets talked about enough. I mean, you
- 5:47Speaker 3: heard your throwing hand. That's that's that's the ability.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And he was one of my favorite guys to catch
- 5:53Speaker 1: up with last year because I didn't know him, didn't
- 5:56Speaker 1: know if he was what his personality was, and know
- 5:58Speaker 1: if he was good bad way. I knew he's from Texas,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and I knew he went all the way up to
- 6:03Speaker 1: Wazoo because that was his opportunity, right there was a
- 6:06Speaker 1: coach that fell in love with him, and then he
- 6:08Speaker 1: got a job at Wazoo. So he found a way
- 6:10Speaker 1: to get John Matier there as well. But I walked
- 6:12Speaker 1: away being like, I want that guy on my team.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I want that guy leading the charge like he was awesome,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and he is somebody that can even if those around
- 6:24Speaker 1: him aren't great, he can elevate their level of play,
- 6:27Speaker 1: which I always think my favorite attribute in a quarterback.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And we talk about with Tyler Shuck all the time
- 6:32Speaker 1: in New Orleans. Right, the guy before him cannot play bad,
- 6:36Speaker 1: but there's something about Tyler Shuck that, Hey, guys started
- 6:39Speaker 1: catching the football, I started making plays. Guys started being
- 6:43Speaker 1: who they should have been but they weren't. That is
- 6:45Speaker 1: a skill that you you have it or you don't.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You can't work on it, you can't practice it. But
- 6:51Speaker 1: I feel like my tears got a little bit of that.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it seems like throughout his career and when he's
- 6:56Speaker 3: been so dynamic as when he's been a play making
- 7:00Speaker 3: quarter like a playmaker quarterback and off schedule like comfortable,
- 7:04Speaker 3: like in the uncomfortable controlled chaos is kind of where
- 7:07Speaker 3: he thrives. Maybe not as much five step hit that
- 7:11Speaker 3: back hit that back foot and throw and go one,
- 7:14Speaker 3: two three. Yeah, maybe it's like I'm gonna hit that
- 7:16Speaker 3: back foot and throw if it's there. But then things
- 7:19Speaker 3: being chaos around him, which of course is SEC. You're
- 7:22Speaker 3: going against the best defenses in the country. There is
- 7:24Speaker 3: going to be chaos. But when you have something an injury,
- 7:30Speaker 3: especially on a throwing hand, I mean, my god, that
- 7:33Speaker 3: kind of takes that ability away. You can't just go
- 7:36Speaker 3: out there and let her rip. You can't go out
- 7:39Speaker 3: there and play a little backyard ball. It's just harder
- 7:42Speaker 3: to do that. So when you get injured like that,
- 7:44Speaker 3: I can only imagine game planning for Oklahoma leaning into
- 7:49Speaker 3: those games like, all right, these this, this, and this throw,
- 7:51Speaker 3: we're pretty much out of here. We have to run
- 7:54Speaker 3: our screens, we got to do our three step drop game.
- 7:56Speaker 3: We have to kind of change the way we're uh
- 8:00Speaker 3: calling a game, game planning. So I look forward to,
- 8:04Speaker 3: you know, when they play, you know, other people when
- 8:07Speaker 3: they play this stuff like seeing him play really well,
- 8:11Speaker 3: because I think he's a he could be a dynamic
- 8:14Speaker 3: playmaker in the SEC, because he has shown it in
- 8:16Speaker 3: college football.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and their defense brings a lot of people back
- 8:20Speaker 1: and remember it was a playoff team a year ago.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Brent Vinnables is as old school as they come. I mean,
- 8:25Speaker 1: he's got that old coaching voice because he yells so much,
- 8:28Speaker 1: kind of talks like this because he can't help it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: That's Brent Vintables, right, And I love that the man
- 8:34Speaker 1: still runs stadiums every single day. When he wakes up,
- 8:36Speaker 1: his first thing he does is hit the stadiums. He
- 8:38Speaker 1: is going to have them me nasty and tough. It's like,
- 8:41Speaker 1: do they have enough offensively? He's going to be the
- 8:43Speaker 1: question of the defense feels like it's going to be
- 8:46Speaker 1: there for another playoff type run. But they do have
- 8:49Speaker 1: a tight end. That off name alone is probably going
- 8:53Speaker 1: to be enough. This man's name is Rocky Beers.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Aldabierz.
- 8:58Speaker 1: His name is Rocky Beers.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I'll bring to beers. My god, that's incredible.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So you got two part Rocky yep.
- 9:06Speaker 3: One beer speaks for itself, Beers, Rocky beaks for itself.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Rocky Beers.
- 9:12Speaker 1: A little upset they didn't bring Rocky Beers to the
- 9:14Speaker 1: media day.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Now? This is Rocky Beers for School, Colorado State, Florida
- 9:21Speaker 1: International Air Force, Now Oklahoma.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Look at this guy. He's got a fou manchew in
- 9:25Speaker 3: his picture. That man looks like he's drunk some beers.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he's deleted some He.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Looks like he definitely says brother.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Who says brother Moore wit Weeks or Rocky Beers.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Can you imagine those two talking to each other? Brother, Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 3: we never heard We've never heard Rocky Beers speak a
- 9:44Speaker 3: word of English and uh, but we can imagine what
- 9:48Speaker 3: his voice sounds like. And it's I think it sounds
- 9:50Speaker 3: a lot like whit Weeks, but a little rasp beer.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Yeah, feel a little bit of rasp. Yeah, because sometimes
- 9:58Speaker 1: when Witt says that he's kind of got a little
- 10:00Speaker 1: iaugh to it.
- 10:00Speaker 3: He got a little laugh too, a lot of joy
- 10:02Speaker 3: and his voice lot of glee, Old Rocky Beers. He's
- 10:05Speaker 3: got a little pain behind his eyes. I can feel it.
- 10:07Speaker 3: He's got a little pain in that voice.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, brother, I've been four schools. Man, I'm kind of
- 10:13Speaker 1: pissed a Rocky Beers isn't here now.
- 10:15Speaker 3: If I'm gonna be really honest with you, I'd rather
- 10:17Speaker 3: see him than Eddie Pierre Lewis. Yeah, all those shout
- 10:21Speaker 3: outs Eddie Pierre Lewis.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, my tears. Great.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Hopefully we get to talk to him.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It'd be great. And we'd ask him, why you're not
- 10:29Speaker 1: Rocky Beers?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Where's rock At?
- 10:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask me tear about I'm gonna check the schedule.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I sincerely hope that I have Matier just so I
- 10:40Speaker 1: can ask him about Rocky Beers.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, No, we need to get him on this
- 10:44Speaker 3: show so I can ask him if Old Rocky lives
- 10:46Speaker 3: up to his name.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I gotta check that out.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Sure he loves those sis?
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, all of them? What else would he drink?
- 10:56Speaker 3: Nothing? Smart? Oh?
- 10:58Speaker 1: I mean did they have those sekis on the island?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, all of them. I mean I didn't know
- 11:05Speaker 3: it was. It was something harder to find, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 3: the importing. There was a there was a Caribbean understanding.
- 11:12Speaker 3: There was a Caribbean beer that I had never heard
- 11:15Speaker 3: of that was pretty prolific in the area, which you know, importation,
- 11:21Speaker 3: all those rules. I can only imagine how tough it
- 11:23Speaker 3: is to get all the beers there. But yeah, they
- 11:27Speaker 3: had But they had plenty of beverages there. I do
- 11:30Speaker 3: know that. You know, they have less.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Now they had a lot. They had a lot, Now
- 11:37Speaker 1: they have less. I don't get Oklahoma, dude, I get Tennessee.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm looking at the schedule. I get Tennessee and I
- 11:43Speaker 1: get Kentucky and one Missouri player. I don't get Materier
- 11:49Speaker 1: this year. I know, I get Kenny Minshi, but he
- 11:54Speaker 1: didn't have a tight end and he didn't have a
- 11:56Speaker 1: named rocking beer.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I say, you just don't go.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm kind of bummed now, anyw I'll get little nor
- 12:06Speaker 1: Sellers on Tuesday. Marl's going to be pretty excited about that. Yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you should let him. You should have heard our conversation
- 12:16Speaker 1: for you yesterday on the way here. I was like,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, he's not the greatest quarterback of all time.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Right.

- 14:18Speaker 2: in Tampa, presented by FMOL Health, our lady of the
- 14:21Speaker 2: Lage Relief, Windows, Rev Fiber, and Farris Construction and Roofing.
- 14:39Speaker 1: IM all right, welcome back in. It is OTB here
- 14:45Speaker 1: live from SEC Media Days, and we are going to
- 14:49Speaker 1: be joined by a legend right now. Tony Barnhart, mister
- 14:52Speaker 1: college Football, joins us now here on the show. Tony,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm excited because you keep telling me you're going to,
- 14:59Speaker 1: you know, retire so away from college football, so I
- 15:01Speaker 1: feel like I'm not going to get a chance to
- 15:03Speaker 1: see you every year. So I'm glad I saw you
- 15:05Speaker 1: down in Miami for the National Championship. I see you
- 15:07Speaker 1: here in Tampa from Media Days. I'm glad that you
- 15:10Speaker 1: can't stay away from college football like the rest of us.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Well, it's like anything else. When you do a book,
- 15:14Speaker 4: you got to finish it. I'm getting to retirement, but no,
- 15:19Speaker 4: but the publishers that I'm happy to report that the book,
- 15:23Speaker 4: which has a chapter on Jacob Hester in it, I
- 15:26Speaker 4: will man right now and LSU, and I'm just happy
- 15:31Speaker 4: that I want to finish up this book and then
- 15:34Speaker 4: maybe I.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Can get to now. Well, don't ever finish it, because
- 15:36Speaker 1: we like hanging out with it. We like you coming
- 15:38Speaker 1: and telling old stories. I can't imagine for you, Tony.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I mean, so many years covering college football in the SEC,
- 15:45Speaker 1: so many great memories, the iconic stadiums, obviously like they
- 15:49Speaker 1: each have their own moments, But trying to get all
- 15:52Speaker 1: of that and try to pick out the very best ones,
- 15:55Speaker 1: the ones that everybody remembers, that had to be incredibly difficult.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Well it was difficult, but it was easy from this standpoint.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I decided that I was going to do a chapter
- 16:02Speaker 4: on each of the sixteen teams in the SEC. What's
- 16:05Speaker 4: my favorite memory at LSU? It's the visit you and
- 16:08Speaker 4: I had. What's my favorite visit? What's my favorite memory
- 16:12Speaker 4: or memory Tennessee? You remember will Over Street, great player
- 16:16Speaker 4: at Tennessee. I interviewed him when I was halfway to
- 16:19Speaker 4: Knoxville on nine to eleven when the plane hit the
- 16:22Speaker 4: twin towers and I kept on to Knoxville and interviewed
- 16:28Speaker 4: will Over Street and he came to the interview in
- 16:31Speaker 4: his practice gear, holding up a cell phone. I said,
- 16:34Speaker 4: what's wrong, Will? He says, my sister's at the Pentagon
- 16:37Speaker 4: and I can't find her. And I will never forget
- 16:40Speaker 4: that day. He finally found her at the end of
- 16:42Speaker 4: the day. But looking at will and the personal struggle
- 16:45Speaker 4: to you, But each school has a memory like that.
- 16:48Speaker 4: For me, it's not about great coaches and great and
- 16:52Speaker 4: this is about personal memories.
- 16:55Speaker 3: That'sunny when you were trying to think of these different memories. Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 3: I'm sure you've got tons, tons of awesome memories that
- 17:01Speaker 3: all these different schools. Maybe some maybe more some than others.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Did you have to kind of write a bullet point
- 17:07Speaker 3: lest like, these are my top memories from this school,
- 17:10Speaker 3: this school. They have to narrow it down a little
- 17:11Speaker 3: playoff bracket of each of these memories.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Now, But basically what I did, I said, Okay, let's
- 17:16Speaker 4: go I just told you about the Tennessee memory. Let's
- 17:19Speaker 4: go to South Carolina. South Carolina. I was there on
- 17:23Speaker 4: the day when Steven Garcia and called his best game.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Steve Spurry called his best game. South Carolina upset number
- 17:32Speaker 4: one Alabama, the defending national champions in Columbia. South Carolina,
- 17:36Speaker 4: and I talked to talked to Steven Garcia, I talked
- 17:39Speaker 4: to coach Spurry, went to go see him. So I
- 17:42Speaker 4: had had that one in Georgia. What's my favorite memory
- 17:44Speaker 4: of Georgia? I'm so old. The first memory I have
- 17:49Speaker 4: of Georgia football. I grew up thirty minutes from the campus,
- 17:52Speaker 4: went to my h in nineteen sixty five. Georgia upset
- 17:56Speaker 4: Alabama in Athens on a fleeflick or play to win
- 18:00Speaker 4: the game. That was my first memory of Georgia football.
- 18:03Speaker 4: So that was the one that went in went in
- 18:04Speaker 4: the book. So it was once I got on campus
- 18:07Speaker 4: to figure out what I wanted to do. Uh, it was.
- 18:11Speaker 4: It was just an incredible experience to have.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I'm sure the only difficult one had to be Florida,
- 18:16Speaker 3: because I'm sure there's no good memories of Forda Gators.
- 18:18Speaker 3: We're Florida haters over here.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Well, I actually the Florida was one of the one
- 18:23Speaker 4: of the best because Steve Spurrier, his wife Jerry and
- 18:27Speaker 4: my wife Maria are best buddies over the years, and
- 18:30Speaker 4: they put together a reception for me and Coach spur
- 18:34Speaker 4: his former players, all of my media buddies down in Florida,
- 18:37Speaker 4: and oddly enough, we had it at Spurriers Grid and
- 18:44Speaker 4: at the end of the night, they said, Tony, you
- 18:46Speaker 4: and coach Coach you're gonna toast each other. I said, no,
- 18:49Speaker 4: it's fine, I can do that. And well, I said,
- 18:51Speaker 4: I bet Coach Spurr is going first, right, yeah, Coach
- 18:54Speaker 4: Spurs going first. He gets up there and says, well,
- 18:56Speaker 4: I tell you, my buddies told me. My buddies told
- 18:59Speaker 4: me that Tony because he's a bulldog and we know
- 19:03Speaker 4: how those bulldogs are. But then I said, no, it's
- 19:05Speaker 4: all right. Tony's good. He's not like them, dumb bulldog.
- 19:11Speaker 4: So that was his toast to me. I said, well, Coach,
- 19:14Speaker 4: I can only say that you came on my radar
- 19:16Speaker 4: in nineteen sixty six when you were getting ready to
- 19:19Speaker 4: play Georgia for the SEC championship, and all you had
- 19:22Speaker 4: to do was win that one game to finally win
- 19:24Speaker 4: an SEC championship for Florida, which they did not have,
- 19:27Speaker 4: right and I'll just remember that Georgia beating you like
- 19:32Speaker 4: a yard dog, and you had you had to wait
- 19:35Speaker 4: until nineteen ninety when you finally got to Florida as
- 19:38Speaker 4: the head coach to finally win. So we had that
- 19:41Speaker 4: was a great uh Knight had all bunch of his
- 19:43Speaker 4: former players. Oh yeah, Danny Wirfle, Uh, Danny Wirfel, coach Spurrier,
- 19:49Speaker 4: Chris During say, Doring had to be there during Durham
- 19:52Speaker 4: was there, Shane Matthews was there, and well, what was
- 19:55Speaker 4: really really neat about that night, Danny Wirfle you know,
- 19:59Speaker 4: is that's incredibly busy schedule. And he said, Tony, I'm sorry,
- 20:03Speaker 4: I'm not gonna be able to be there. I said,
- 20:05Speaker 4: I totally understand, Danny. We're five minutes away from starting
- 20:09Speaker 4: this event in Walks.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Danny, that's awesome.
- 20:12Speaker 4: And Danny says, there was no way I was gonna miss. Yes,
- 20:14Speaker 4: that's my favorite Florida.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Many over the years. I mean, Tony, you're talking about
- 20:19Speaker 1: Steve Spurrier, who's got one of the best personalities, certainly
- 20:23Speaker 1: would have some of the best quotes from any head coach. UH,
- 20:26Speaker 1: to say the least, some of the some of the
- 20:27Speaker 1: you know, soft jabs that he would give other schools.
- 20:30Speaker 1: But over your time covering the SEC, who are some
- 20:33Speaker 1: of those coaches that just kind of stand out to
- 20:35Speaker 1: you that they were always going to give you something
- 20:38Speaker 1: that was going to, you know, kind of take off
- 20:40Speaker 1: whenever you put it on paper.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Well, back back in the day, Nick Saban was was great.
- 20:45Speaker 4: He was one of the things we used to do
- 20:47Speaker 4: when I first started doing this long long time ago.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I remember I would tell I would see coach uh,
- 20:53Speaker 4: Coach Saban, I said, coach and Wes Dorman, I and
- 20:56Speaker 4: Atlanta would do it. Well, they said, said West, and
- 21:00Speaker 4: I want to see he said, come on over here
- 21:02Speaker 4: and get this. So he and I we just we
- 21:04Speaker 4: sort of kidnapped Nick Saban. And that's the kind of
- 21:07Speaker 4: stuff you could do when I first started it.
- 21:09Speaker 3: But he was good, you know.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Nick Saban also remember his dog left the hotel room
- 21:16Speaker 4: and came into the main media room.
- 21:19Speaker 3: That was great.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I loved it. When Spurrier was asking an open press conference, coach,
- 21:24Speaker 4: why don't we have a playoff, he said, well, that's
- 21:26Speaker 4: commission a Cramer right there. Once you ask him, and
- 21:29Speaker 4: he did, uh huh.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So I'm sure you've got some coach Miles stories as well.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You know less was that's our guy, that's our coach,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and he used to get that, keeps on giving to
- 21:40Speaker 1: the media.
- 21:40Speaker 3: For sure, have a.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Great never forget that. I was working for CBS at
- 21:47Speaker 4: the time, and I talked to somebody.
- 21:49Speaker 3: And says, he's not going to Michigan.
- 21:53Speaker 4: And so I went down to where he's having this
- 21:55Speaker 4: press conference in the Georgia Dome.
- 21:57Speaker 1: He's just and on and I'm going to coach my
- 21:59Speaker 1: damn fine ball team.
- 22:01Speaker 4: And then he ended up with have a great day
- 22:03Speaker 4: and said that line would live in infamy.
- 22:06Speaker 1: We were actually watching that together. So we were in
- 22:09Speaker 1: the hotel getting ready for the SEC Championship game and
- 22:13Speaker 1: you were out that game.
- 22:14Speaker 3: But I remember we watching breakfast. I wanted with the
- 22:17Speaker 3: team when Kirk kirk Street pretty much broke it.
- 22:21Speaker 4: H Yeah, on game day, Well, the CBS guys are
- 22:24Speaker 4: calling me because I'm doing the show with Tim Branda
- 22:28Speaker 4: and Spencer Tillman. It's true, And so I called somebody
- 22:31Speaker 4: said no, it's not true, it's not true, and he's
- 22:33Speaker 4: getting ready to have a press conference to say it.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah. The thing for us that we knew as we
- 22:38Speaker 1: saw it we knew it wasn't true because we said,
- 22:41Speaker 1: there's no way that he would have done this, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: he would not have told us first there was no
- 22:46Speaker 1: way less wasn't that kind of like he would he
- 22:48Speaker 1: would have told us, Hey, I played there, I'm a
- 22:52Speaker 1: Michigan man, I gotta go back whatever, And we would
- 22:55Speaker 1: have understood. I think, I mean, that's home for him.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But when we saw it break and we're like, he
- 22:59Speaker 1: didn't less this yet, there's no way it's true.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, And I guess that's the way breaking news happens.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I'm sure there's news that does break to a team
- 23:07Speaker 3: before coaches are ready. But yeah, we knew at the
- 23:09Speaker 3: time this can't be true. But again we're sitting there
- 23:12Speaker 3: watching it as a team, like looking around eating our eggs.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Between that and eating the grass.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Now, Tony, you've seen a lot of really great football
- 23:23Speaker 3: teams in the SEC over a long period of time. Now,
- 23:26Speaker 3: there's always this argument about you know, me and Jacob
- 23:29Speaker 3: argued about all the time about high school football teams,
- 23:31Speaker 3: like who's the best high school football team? We always
- 23:33Speaker 3: like to play the fun game of who's the best
- 23:36Speaker 3: football team? And college football history? And I know you
- 23:39Speaker 3: can't compare a team from the seventies to the two thousands,
- 23:42Speaker 3: or the teams or whatever it is, because it's a
- 23:44Speaker 3: different style of the ball. But for like, in their
- 23:46Speaker 3: moment in time, who's the best SEC football team that
- 23:50Speaker 3: you've you've come across?
- 23:52Speaker 4: Ninety two Alabama, greatest defense that's ever played in this league.
- 23:57Speaker 4: And that was the way the game was played, Say
- 24:00Speaker 4: ninety two Alabama or twenty nineteen LSU.
- 24:03Speaker 1: How would you have liked to see that defense against
- 24:05Speaker 1: that offense? That would have been a show.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I looked at some film the other day. I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 4: Joe Burrow, are you kidding me?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yeah? Kidding me? I mean, holy So I've been around
- 24:16Speaker 1: football a long time, fortunate enough to play on really
- 24:19Speaker 1: good football teams, one that won it all. I had
- 24:22Speaker 1: never had the feeling covering that team when you go
- 24:25Speaker 1: into the stadium, you knew they were gonna win and
- 24:28Speaker 1: it didn't matter who played on the other side. I
- 24:31Speaker 1: had never in football history, I'd never had that feeling
- 24:34Speaker 1: where it didn't matter who it was, where it was,
- 24:37Speaker 1: that team was going to win.
- 24:39Speaker 4: And what's amazing is is that as good as Joe
- 24:41Speaker 4: Burrow was, he was a great, great great, great player.
- 24:44Speaker 4: They surrounded him with.
- 24:45Speaker 3: A lot my good players. I got, yeah, yeah, so
- 24:49Speaker 3: you topped the bottom. It was it was something. Yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 3: you know, you watch you watch high school football. Sometimes
- 24:54Speaker 3: you watch like a two to a team play, and
- 24:56Speaker 3: they got that one guy that's like a top recrew.
- 24:59Speaker 3: He's going to play at the big school and he
- 25:01Speaker 3: just dominates. Right, It's just a different it's just a
- 25:03Speaker 3: different game. Well, it seemed like that was Joe Burrow
- 25:06Speaker 3: and those receivers that year. They were just playing on
- 25:08Speaker 3: a different level. We talked about like he was already
- 25:11Speaker 3: an NFL quarterback at that time. There's a college you
- 25:14Speaker 3: can tell. He just sees it sideline to sideline. He
- 25:17Speaker 3: can make the reads and do things mentally that other
- 25:20Speaker 3: college kids can't do.
- 25:20Speaker 4: I remember sitting in the ed Oisdron's office and they
- 25:23Speaker 4: were talking about the first meeting with Joe Burrow, and
- 25:26Speaker 4: I said, well, I said, what was that?
- 25:27Speaker 3: Like he said, he.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Said, within five minutes, we knew that he was the
- 25:30Speaker 4: smartest guy in the round.
- 25:34Speaker 1: That's great, Oh, Tony, it's always a pleasure. You've seen
- 25:38Speaker 1: so much over the years, and I cannot wait for
- 25:42Speaker 1: the book. And because it's going to be fifty years
- 25:44Speaker 1: of SEC football history, so many coaches, so many players,
- 25:48Speaker 1: so many incredible institutions, fan bases, all these different things,
- 25:52Speaker 1: And so I cannot wait to dive into it because
- 25:55Speaker 1: there ain't many people that had, you know, the look
- 25:57Speaker 1: into the SEC like you had, and you, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: you always put it so well and so many great stories.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And I love how it's not just stories like you said,
- 26:06Speaker 1: of the biggest names, the biggest this, that, and the other.
- 26:09Speaker 1: It's like personal stories that nobody else can share. And
- 26:11Speaker 1: so I cannot wait. Do we do we have a
- 26:14Speaker 1: like a timeline, I know, like end of end of July.
- 26:18Speaker 4: We're talking to the folks right now about this and
- 26:20Speaker 4: that we're looking at We're looking at spring summer of
- 26:23Speaker 4: next year.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Okay, okay, all right, so I was thinking maybe a
- 26:25Speaker 1: year from now. So that's even better. I'm gonna put
- 26:28Speaker 1: you on the call.
- 26:28Speaker 4: I'll have a reason to come back to SEC.
- 26:30Speaker 3: I know, I know it afford to read it. I
- 26:33Speaker 3: might be audiobook for me, but we'll read it. Well.
- 26:37Speaker 1: We all knew that. We all knew that Tony Barnhart,
- 26:40Speaker 1: mister college Football, good enough to join us, sir. It
- 26:43Speaker 1: is always a pleasure, and you will have to come
- 26:45Speaker 1: back next year. We do this every year, so we've
- 26:46Speaker 1: got to do it again next year, and then we'll
- 26:48Speaker 1: find a reason for the next year after that as well.
- 26:50Speaker 4: All Right, my friends, good to see you.

- 28:28Speaker 1: power you were. That was a power walk, dude, I

- 28:59Speaker 1: Thank you Landra appreciate that had a very Dracula feel
- 29:03Speaker 1: to it.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Actually really yeah, like the Dracula van Helsin song from
- 29:07Speaker 3: Forgetting Sarah Marshall a little bit when he plays a piano.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an elite that's an elite performance. Elite performance.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'd go see that play. Would you go
- 29:19Speaker 1: see that play? If they did it like the actual
- 29:21Speaker 1: actors that are in it. I would, Yeah, bro, I'd
- 29:27Speaker 1: travel anywhere to see it. Best character in Forgetting Sarah
- 29:30Speaker 1: Marshall tough, asking a lot. I kind of agree with you.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Pop not a lot of screen time, not a lot
- 29:42Speaker 3: of screen time, but he made the most of it,
- 29:43Speaker 3: kind of upstaged everybody a little bit. All the snow.
- 29:47Speaker 3: I mean, obviously elite stuff. Take me eyes, not me shirt,
- 29:52Speaker 3: that situation. Your shirt looks a little bit like that.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Thank you. I was hoping you notice we both got
- 29:58Speaker 1: poncho is not that big of a deal. You went
- 30:01Speaker 1: more like the kind of Western style today. I went
- 30:05Speaker 1: more Florida style.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Yeah you did. Yeah, a couple.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Did you bring this?
- 30:12Speaker 3: I did not have this one?
- 30:13Speaker 1: I do certainly, God, I would have loved for us
- 30:15Speaker 1: to showing up in the same shirt.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Organically. I've been so sick, I've been very us. I
- 30:20Speaker 3: do have two l s U shirts, so I will
- 30:23Speaker 3: be interviewing other players from other teams this week in
- 30:26Speaker 3: an LSU shirt.
- 30:27Speaker 1: That's see, that's okay, and we're by like the LSU banner.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Don't know if that was on purpose, but we're here.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I checked that this morning. I saw yesterday and there's
- 30:38Speaker 1: no way you're early enough to do that. But but
- 30:43Speaker 1: that's okay because like we're an LSU show, so you
- 30:45Speaker 1: can do that now. See. I couldn't do that over
- 30:48Speaker 1: across in the serious XM room.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Sure.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I wore a lavender poncho to Spring meetings last year
- 30:56Speaker 1: and Sark called me out on it, goes, nah, not
- 30:58Speaker 1: very neutral today, are dude? It's a lavender Sork No,
- 31:03Speaker 1: not neutral?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Sorry? I mean you know that. Yeah, it's like you know,
- 31:09Speaker 3: but you don't really I mean kind of a big
- 31:12Speaker 3: time NFL gut now you don't really work for them,
- 31:14Speaker 3: so you can do it.
- 31:16Speaker 1: That's also fair. That's also fair, Uh, Sark, I don't
- 31:21Speaker 1: do college except this week, so.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Except this week, so l she's gonna beat your face
- 31:26Speaker 3: in what if I.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Did show up to Texas day, full decked out LSU.
- 31:31Speaker 3: That'd be great.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I think, do you think I can get some here?
- 31:34Speaker 1: How can I borrow maybe one of your ponchos?
- 31:36Speaker 3: Yeah? I might have my poncho shirt on. If we
- 31:38Speaker 3: get the interview Sark, I.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Know you will see it, but but here at this table,
- 31:43Speaker 1: it'd be okay, okay, because we're by the LSU. Call
- 31:45Speaker 1: him exactly. I want you to interview Arc.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Is it comen?
- 31:51Speaker 1: He's yeah, he's gonna be here.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Not there, M.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Blame pretty pretty popular player. I mean, he's no Rocky Beers.
- 32:06Speaker 3: The's no Rocky Beers. I think we all know that.
- 32:09Speaker 3: We can all agree that Ark Manning is not Rocky Bears. Yep,
- 32:12Speaker 3: we've said it.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Tennessee is going to be here today. They're already here.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Uh no quarterbacks for Tennessee. They went running back and
- 32:21Speaker 1: then two linebackers. A little bit a little bit different. Uh,
- 32:27Speaker 1: Tennessee's you know, Josh Heipeltz, it's been you know a
- 32:30Speaker 1: lot of quarterbacks in his time there that have been
- 32:32Speaker 1: in media days. You had a former quarter Joey Aguar,
- 32:36Speaker 1: played really really well last year for them coming over.
- 32:39Speaker 1: It was a straight up trade with nico I Maliava. Right,
- 32:42Speaker 1: It's like literally like it felt like a trade, Like
- 32:45Speaker 1: they got UCLA's quarterback and you sent them yours and
- 32:48Speaker 1: it worked out for Joey Aguilar. Nobody really knows what
- 32:51Speaker 1: it's going to look like at Tennessee this year at quarterback.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But and I'll throw this one to you. You you
- 32:56Speaker 1: would know this answer way better than I. It feels
- 32:59Speaker 1: like a system that is going to be quarterback friendly
- 33:02Speaker 1: regardless of who it is. So not to say that
- 33:04Speaker 1: they're going to get exceptional quarterback play, but I don't
- 33:07Speaker 1: ever think it's going to fall off a cliff because
- 33:10Speaker 1: Josh Hipel's offense typically no matter who's behind center, has
- 33:14Speaker 1: a really good season and they're not like pro guys, right,
- 33:19Speaker 1: Like even Hendon Hooker, he made him look incredible. You know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I like Hendon Hooker a lot. He was a third
- 33:23Speaker 1: round pick, but Hendon's never taken a snap.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's kind of how Josh Hipel played. Huh.
- 33:31Speaker 3: I mean I remember seeing Josh Hipel play at Oklahoma
- 33:34Speaker 3: back in the day, and my god, he was. It
- 33:35Speaker 3: was the most impressive thing. Now watching him throw. He
- 33:39Speaker 3: would throw a you know, seventeen yard dig route and
- 33:41Speaker 3: it'd go about twenty seventeen yards in the air because
- 33:44Speaker 3: they had a lot like he had to throw it
- 33:45Speaker 3: with a big old arc to get it there. He
- 33:48Speaker 3: was not that gifted of a guy armstrength wise. But
- 33:50Speaker 3: my guid are what they did. I wouldn't watch them
- 33:53Speaker 3: play in person at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas
- 33:56Speaker 3: playing Baylor and destroyed them.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Oh, I watched him play Texas Tech. So Texas Tech
- 34:03Speaker 1: hosted the Longhorns the week before. It's like Chris Simms
- 34:07Speaker 1: and that whole crew of Texas Longhorns, Like I think
- 34:10Speaker 1: Roy Williams was like a receiver and Texas Tech took
- 34:13Speaker 1: him down like Wes Welker Kingsbury like that whole probably
- 34:18Speaker 1: that whole crew, Yeah, probably not at all. Wes Welker
- 34:20Speaker 1: definitely didn't go off. No, And so it hyped up
- 34:23Speaker 1: this Oklahoma Texas Tech game for the next week in Norman.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So we went like because I had some buddies from
- 34:29Speaker 1: my high school that were playing for Texas Tech. It
- 34:31Speaker 1: was kind of like a feeder there for a while.
- 34:33Speaker 1: From evangel of Texas Tech. I went on a visit
- 34:35Speaker 1: to Texas Tech. Then I went on to visit to Oklahoma,
- 34:37Speaker 1: so I get free tickets and we got to the game. Dude,
- 34:42Speaker 1: it was one of those days where Oklahoma's offense, to
- 34:45Speaker 1: your point, was such a machine and he was such
- 34:47Speaker 1: a I don't think a ball hit the ground for them. Yeah,
- 34:50Speaker 1: they won like forty five to nothing.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Like what they were doing like at the time, with
- 34:54Speaker 3: like switch routes, option routes, wheel routes, like just taking
- 34:58Speaker 3: advantage of really basic college defenses. Well it's at the time,
- 35:02Speaker 3: I had no clue what happened. I just thought they
- 35:04Speaker 3: were the greatest athletes to ever walk the planet Earth.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Because he would get back to a dropback, he'd get
- 35:10Speaker 3: back on like a three five step timing rout They
- 35:12Speaker 3: did a lot of shotgun back then, which was, you
- 35:14Speaker 3: know a little bit different at the time. Five step timing,
- 35:17Speaker 3: three steps out, he hit his back foot and throw
- 35:19Speaker 3: it and everybody was open. And even if they weren't open,
- 35:23Speaker 3: he was putting in all these type plays. So, like
- 35:26Speaker 3: you can only imagine how his past influences his play
- 35:30Speaker 3: calling today. Now everything evolves, so it's way different. You're
- 35:33Speaker 3: playing facing way different different types of defenses, way smarter
- 35:38Speaker 3: defensive schemes and coaching, so it's not quite as easy
- 35:43Speaker 3: as it used to be. But like, yeah, you're not
- 35:44Speaker 3: always going to have like the like the typical first
- 35:47Speaker 3: round quarterback around.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I'm sure he would love that. I'm sure he would
- 35:51Speaker 3: definitely take that. But you know it's like it's Tennessee,
- 35:56Speaker 3: like they're it's a good name. I wonder why they're
- 35:59Speaker 3: not getting those dudes there.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I mean ali Ava was like on paper, remember, I
- 36:06Speaker 1: mean he's a guy that wore pajama pants like every
- 36:08Speaker 1: camp or whatever, and like he had this huge, huge following.
- 36:11Speaker 1: He was a big recruit, but he hasn't really been
- 36:16Speaker 1: there and got UCLA either, Like to your point, like
- 36:19Speaker 1: you know, a top five quarterback that goes out there
- 36:23Speaker 1: and thrives, Like there's quarterbacks that we could talk about
- 36:26Speaker 1: in even in an arch Manning, right, I mean obviously
- 36:29Speaker 1: arch Manning they got they got some ties to Tennessee
- 36:32Speaker 1: with Peyton and Suckers. You know, you're waiting for him
- 36:34Speaker 1: to get somebody like that. I think, Yeah, I.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Wonder where he went at that level. I wonder what
- 36:39Speaker 3: the separation is there all why?
- 36:41Speaker 1: But you know, you know how you know and you
- 36:44Speaker 1: know this to be true. There might be some that
- 36:47Speaker 1: are like, hey, the system's great. You can be a
- 36:50Speaker 1: Tennessee legend and throw for a lot of yards. But
- 36:52Speaker 1: maybe it's just not pro friendly because those guys.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Do that about most offenses in college football. It's not pro.
- 37:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's not like Hypel's doing anything that's that
- 37:03Speaker 3: much different. Now I haven't broken down a ton of film,
- 37:06Speaker 3: but I'm.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Just saying, like, I guess for like the pro success, Yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 1: you know, like even if it's like not a scheme
- 37:12Speaker 1: that translates to the.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Pros, Yeah, you're right, didn't have like the notches and
- 37:16Speaker 3: the bell from that standpoint of like having those typical
- 37:20Speaker 3: pro guys and somebody, so you know, and that is
- 37:24Speaker 3: one thing that you do recruit on. It's like, you know,
- 37:26Speaker 3: it's like Sabing walking in and throwing like putting his
- 37:28Speaker 3: hands on the table and all those rings. Right, I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 3: it's an easy thing if you're Josh Hypel and you
- 37:33Speaker 3: sometimes you just need that one.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You really do. Okay, think about think about a little
- 37:40Speaker 1: bit of the desert, right, l she was a quarterback
- 37:43Speaker 1: after you, and then Mett was sprinkled in there. Obviously,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I want to give him his credit. But then you
- 37:49Speaker 1: get back to a little bit of a desert time yep,
- 37:51Speaker 1: for sure, And well then what happens. Joe Burrow comes
- 37:54Speaker 1: and then he does what he does, and then all
- 37:56Speaker 1: of a sudden, like the quarterback play, the quarterbacks that
- 37:58Speaker 1: you can get at least changes a little bit because
- 38:01Speaker 1: they're like, Okay, it's not going to be power in
- 38:04Speaker 1: three yards and a cloud of dust anymore. Like going,
- 38:07Speaker 1: They're going to open it up. And so you start
- 38:08Speaker 1: getting quarterbacks that you hadn't got. So to your point,
- 38:10Speaker 1: it really does only take one. You get one of
- 38:13Speaker 1: those guys and then everybody can see what it looks
- 38:17Speaker 1: like and see like what you can be in that uniform.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Yeah, so Tennessee goes into twenty twenty six it a
- 38:22Speaker 3: little bit of quarterback competition on their hands, which is
- 38:26Speaker 3: kind of what we talked about with LSU. You know,
- 38:29Speaker 3: my my prediction on if we had to leave one
- 38:33Speaker 3: guy back at home at LSU of the you know,
- 38:36Speaker 3: four or five guys we're talking about potentials, it would
- 38:39Speaker 3: be Sam Webt, just because of you at least you
- 38:41Speaker 3: want to create this illusion of competition. He hasn't practiced yet, right,
- 38:45Speaker 3: So I would understand if they didn't take him now.
- 38:47Speaker 3: I would love to see him here. Yeah, I wish
- 38:49Speaker 3: he was here. I wish he was coming. But these
- 38:53Speaker 3: schools are if there's a quarterback competition, you certainly like basically,
- 38:57Speaker 3: if you take somebody here, you're anointing them, right, you
- 38:59Speaker 3: are basically give him the keys to the car. You're
- 39:02Speaker 3: not going to take something like today. I mean, you
- 39:04Speaker 3: got Austin Simmons from Missouri. He's not here now. Maybe
- 39:09Speaker 3: it's because he was here last year for Miss here
- 39:12Speaker 3: last year for Old miss but he's not here this year.
- 39:14Speaker 3: And you know what, for whatever reason, whatever the reason
- 39:17Speaker 3: the coaches have, I believe if you have a starting
- 39:20Speaker 3: if you've named a starting quarterback, you need to be here.
- 39:23Speaker 3: He needs to be here. Yeah, just it's the nature
- 39:25Speaker 3: of the beast with that position. It's not just because
- 39:27Speaker 3: I'm a quarterback. But that's just that's if you want
- 39:31Speaker 3: people to stay here, put a quarterback in the microphone, right,
- 39:35Speaker 3: that's what you want to do. Now, I understand the
- 39:38Speaker 3: competition standpoint. A coach certainly shouldn't bring somebody here. Well,
- 39:42Speaker 3: this is going to bring two of them, so it's uh.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Didn't coach Prime bring two Big twelve last year.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I'll see you.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Well, I think Big twelve brought like six players from
- 39:55Speaker 1: like every school they really think so, I think so.
- 39:58Speaker 1: But to your point, that's too much. No, you're right.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I mean it is something that like definitely signifies, hey,
- 40:04Speaker 1: this is our guy and Sam Levit is going to
- 40:06Speaker 1: be the guy for LSU.
- 40:07Speaker 3: But to your point, technically been like I mean, not
- 40:10Speaker 3: that it means anything. Technically been named the start.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Nobody hasn't practiced yet. So to your point, like they
- 40:16Speaker 1: want to probably like they want to create a fire
- 40:18Speaker 1: for him as well, to let him know, like hey, Bud,
- 40:21Speaker 1: like you're our guy, right, number one portal player out there,
- 40:25Speaker 1: but we'd like to see on the practice field. That'd
- 40:27Speaker 1: be nice. And so, like you know, with his foot injury,
- 40:30Speaker 1: he'll be out there during fall I mean he's already
- 40:32Speaker 1: out there, but he'll be out there during fall camp
- 40:34Speaker 1: just duncan dunking on gold posts. I know, when y'all
- 40:38Speaker 1: first said that that first day in the studio, I'm like,
- 40:40Speaker 1: why is he at the basketball court?
- 40:42Speaker 3: Why? So what happened that year at Arizona State? You
- 40:47Speaker 3: got Sam Levitt coming off foot injury, Duncan and you
- 40:51Speaker 3: got your guy Camp'scataby doing backflip.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Set fanatics fest. But he didn't stick it. He did
- 40:57Speaker 1: stick it, I mean he he overrotated. If he I mean,
- 41:02Speaker 1: it would have been real sweet if he's stuck it.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. But he fell and he kind of
- 41:07Speaker 3: came up. It looked a little awkward landing coming off
- 41:10Speaker 3: an injury. Hey, Cam, you didn't like sprain an ankle?
- 41:13Speaker 3: Your leg exploded during a national football game, like I literally.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Really did exploded. Yeah, so we were wondering if it
- 41:23Speaker 1: was going to happen this year.
- 41:24Speaker 3: It wasn't just a high ankle spray. But not true.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It's very true. He's not. He's he knows one as
- 41:30Speaker 1: we all know. All right, we are going to take
- 41:32Speaker 1: a break. We've got more coming right back your way.

- 43:45Speaker 3: That's not because you're a health nut, well and you
- 43:47Speaker 3: like to fill your best throughout the day.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I start every day with it my high, budd, Well, yeah,
- 43:54Speaker 1: I mean you're the owner. Did you just send somebody
- 43:56Speaker 1: to a website for a grocers on uh? Yeah, oh yeah,
- 44:00Speaker 1: because you can go see all your local deals there,
- 44:02Speaker 1: all the special babe of twenty percent off here, fifteen
- 44:04Speaker 1: percent off there, and even sometimes when somebody has a
- 44:08Speaker 1: twenty percent off deal.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Yep and give you the wrong date.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It gives you the wrong dates.
- 44:12Speaker 3: That's on me.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Rous's will make it right. Go to Rous's dot com today.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Of the head coaches that are here today, obviously, you
- 44:22Speaker 1: know you've got some different personalities. You're going to have
- 44:25Speaker 1: Eli Drinkwit, who's one of my favorites. He's going to
- 44:28Speaker 1: give you something every single time. You've got Josh Heipel,
- 44:30Speaker 1: who's going to be a little bit more reserved. He's
- 44:32Speaker 1: not gonna, you know, give you too much. And he's
- 44:35Speaker 1: he's an ext's nosed guy, kind of keeps to himself
- 44:38Speaker 1: a little bit. Brent Vinnables is going to be the
- 44:40Speaker 1: guy that makes you want to run through a brick wall.
- 44:42Speaker 1: He's just that kind of guy, like coach, can I
- 44:43Speaker 1: go pull my hamstring running down on kickoff for you?
- 44:46Speaker 1: He's old school. That's him. Will Stein at Kentucky. I've
- 44:50Speaker 1: had a chance to interview him twice. Maybe good personality,
- 44:54Speaker 1: younger guy, but I don't think you know a lot
- 44:56Speaker 1: of people here are going to know anything about will Stein.
- 44:58Speaker 1: So he's probably going to be a guy that introduces
- 45:01Speaker 1: himself to everybody, and we're gonna get a chance you
- 45:03Speaker 1: kind of see what his personality is. He goes to
- 45:05Speaker 1: a pretty good landing spot in Kentucky, Lexington, incredible city there.
- 45:09Speaker 1: So a great first head coaching job out of the
- 45:12Speaker 1: gates for Will. But I think a lot of people
- 45:13Speaker 1: can learn exactly like who he is because not a
- 45:15Speaker 1: lot of people know anything about him.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I got I gotta probably think that. You know,
- 45:20Speaker 3: if you're an old salty vet coach that's been in
- 45:22Speaker 3: here a while a sec me todays you're coming and
- 45:25Speaker 3: seeing a bunch of you know, guys you've known for
- 45:27Speaker 3: a long time, you've done it, but as a first
- 45:30Speaker 3: year head coach ever done it? Been an offensive coordator
- 45:34Speaker 3: for a long time, and you come to this big
- 45:37Speaker 3: event where you have to take the podium and there
- 45:40Speaker 3: what second today? So second all week? That doesn't be
- 45:44Speaker 3: the thing that they look forward to the least when
- 45:48Speaker 3: they sign up to be a head coach is to
- 45:50Speaker 3: have to come and drive an interviews like because especially
- 45:56Speaker 3: you come from a play calling background. Yeah well six
- 46:00Speaker 3: months ago, seven months ago, you were calling plays and
- 46:03Speaker 3: doing it very well. Yeah, at a very big college,
- 46:06Speaker 3: and now you have to go to be in the
- 46:08Speaker 3: face of a program. Now you have to go to
- 46:11Speaker 3: being a CEO. Of course you are going to be
- 46:14Speaker 3: involved as much as you can with the x's and
- 46:17Speaker 3: o's and the play calling. But every head coach that
- 46:20Speaker 3: comes from the coordinator recision has to kind of figure
- 46:22Speaker 3: out that balance. So it can't he do it. But
- 46:24Speaker 3: this right here, at this setting, I can promise you,
- 46:26Speaker 3: is not what he wants to do. So we'll see
- 46:28Speaker 3: how he We'll see how he does. Some guys are
- 46:30Speaker 3: just built for this. They have that, they have that
- 46:32Speaker 3: personality that does really well. And you've seen like you've
- 46:35Speaker 3: got a lot of big personalities here in the SEC.
- 46:37Speaker 3: So it will be fun to watch and see how
- 46:39Speaker 3: he does.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Real quick? Will he do better than Deshaun Foster?
- 46:44Speaker 3: Kentucky is in Lexington. They are the second school in Kentucky.
- 46:53Speaker 3: There's two. It's Louisville down the road. So we'll see
- 46:56Speaker 3: see what kind of background it gives us.
- 46:57Speaker 1: No matter how bad he does, he'll be better than that.
- 47:00Speaker 3: He'll nail it.
- 47:02Speaker 1: I remember three of OTB coming to you live from Tampa, Florida.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Off the bench, all right, go see our friends over
- 47:11Speaker 1: at gingators dot com. That is jing Gators with a
- 47:15Speaker 1: Z Jingators power systems. They are going to be that
- 47:17Speaker 1: ultimate peace of mind, that whole home generator. It is
- 47:20Speaker 1: storm season and when your power goes out, the last
- 47:24Speaker 1: thing that you want to do is be without. Now,
- 47:26Speaker 1: we had an issue over where I live that there
- 47:29Speaker 1: was like basically a two mile radius of other day
- 47:32Speaker 1: matt when you were out it just the power goes
- 47:34Speaker 1: out the whole like block everything, multiple neighborhoods, multiple stores
- 47:37Speaker 1: or whatever. And I'm not gonna lie to you. It's
- 47:41Speaker 1: kind of like one of those deals where you're like,
- 47:43Speaker 1: we're good, we got a home home generator. When you
- 47:45Speaker 1: hear that little bitty buzz when you have it kick on,
- 47:48Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a flex. It is, Hey,
- 47:50Speaker 1: everybody's out of power, but not you because everything and
- 47:53Speaker 1: I mean everything in your home is still going to
- 47:55Speaker 1: be running. When you work for our friends over at
- 47:57Speaker 1: gen Gators.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Yeah, protect your home. We are going into all I mean,
- 48:00Speaker 3: we know that's when the things happen with the with
- 48:02Speaker 3: the hurricanes, the golf starts to wake up. It's not
- 48:05Speaker 3: too late. Go to gen Gators dot collegegen Gators with
- 48:07Speaker 3: a Z dot com.
- 48:09Speaker 2: What do
