- 0:37Speaker 1: Boy?
- 0:38Speaker 3: I am here ready to take the biggest l in
- 0:40Speaker 3: the world after the Ryan Garcia fight over the weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 3: You know, I got a little spicy beforehead. I will
- 0:46Speaker 3: I'll never I'm never afraid to admit when I was wrong.
- 0:48Speaker 3: But you know, we're gonna talk all about that and
- 0:51Speaker 3: just kind of the reasons why I was very very
- 0:53Speaker 3: down on Ryan as a fighter. But you know the
- 0:56Speaker 3: good thing is we're not gonna be talking about this alone.
- 0:58Speaker 3: We have a very special episode today. We have guest
- 1:01Speaker 3: of Boxing Legends Lounge on YouTube TikTok and we'll let
- 1:05Speaker 3: him promote his own social media because I don't want
- 1:07Speaker 3: to miss anything. But we're going to invite into the
- 1:09Speaker 3: ring the man himself. Please welcome, Legend. How's it going man,
- 1:14Speaker 3: what's going on?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Fellers?
- 1:15Speaker 3: How y'all feeling fantastic? Yeah, fantastic and ready to eat
- 1:21Speaker 3: some crow today after this weekend's boxing activity. So before
- 1:26Speaker 3: before we get into any of that, Legend, please tell
- 1:29Speaker 3: us about you and about how long you've been a
- 1:31Speaker 3: boxing fan and where that love of boxing came from.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Oh man, well, actually, my father, my father was a boxer.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Well, my father was all around athletes.
- 1:42Speaker 5: So me seeing my father, you know, doing combat sports,
- 1:47Speaker 5: martial arts, boxing, even just competing when I was about
- 1:51Speaker 5: seven years old. A lot of people don't notice I
- 1:54Speaker 5: actually was a I actually was a basketball player before
- 1:57Speaker 5: I got into boxing, so a lot of people don't
- 1:59Speaker 5: know that. But it all started with my phone. He
- 2:02Speaker 5: put boxing gloves in my hand, and he never told
- 2:05Speaker 5: me to go fight. I was just was crazy enough
- 2:07Speaker 5: to want to go fight. And you know, growing up,
- 2:10Speaker 5: you know, I was in school and always had fights.
- 2:13Speaker 5: So he was like, listen, you might as well just
- 2:16Speaker 5: do something productive with that. And so I've been a
- 2:19Speaker 5: boxing fan since since a young boy watching Mike Tyson.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Royd Jones Junior was one of my favorite fighters growing up.
- 2:26Speaker 5: So that's really how everything started for me, and you know,
- 2:29Speaker 5: in my journey.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Okay, Well, and that brings up a good question I've
- 2:34Speaker 3: always wondered because I've taken boxing classes, I've done some sparring.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I was never good at it. Definitely got my ass
- 2:40Speaker 3: kicked a lot, But I've never been interested in any
- 2:43Speaker 3: other sport. Boxing is the only sport I've ever been
- 2:45Speaker 3: passionate about. But you havn't played basketball and also boxed.
- 2:49Speaker 3: What's the difference to the type of workout. I mean,
- 2:51Speaker 3: obviously you have to be a peak physical condition to
- 2:53Speaker 3: do either of those things. You know, lots of cardio
- 2:55Speaker 3: strength training. In terms of what you're doing in the gym, well,
- 2:58Speaker 3: how would.
- 2:59Speaker 5: You say the difference workouts are just as far as
- 3:02Speaker 5: like mobility movements, stands. You know, basketball obviously we shooting
- 3:07Speaker 5: the ball right. Boxing is more so you know your
- 3:10Speaker 5: punches and throwing punches on it, you know, at a
- 3:12Speaker 5: certain at a certain speed, a certain angle. There's a
- 3:16Speaker 5: lot of technicalities to it. So going into a boxing
- 3:19Speaker 5: gym versus playing basketball, it was it was it was
- 3:22Speaker 5: just a whole lot different. You know that obviously basketball
- 3:25Speaker 5: is a team sport. Boxing is you know, you don't
- 3:28Speaker 5: got no team in the ring for you, so that
- 3:31Speaker 5: the workouts is a little it's.
- 3:34Speaker 4: A little bit more For me, it was a little
- 3:36Speaker 4: bit more strenuous, right.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I remember the first time I went into the boxing
- 3:40Speaker 5: gym and I was hitting the punching bag, I literally
- 3:42Speaker 5: wanted to throw up. It looks good right on camera
- 3:45Speaker 5: we see everybody hitting the punching bag and it looks amazing.
- 3:47Speaker 5: You see even like a floy money made whether hitting
- 3:50Speaker 5: the pads, and we're like, oh, I could do that,
- 3:52Speaker 5: and you're getting it. Ball Listen, your life flashed before
- 3:56Speaker 5: your eyes.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I got you.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I was early on throwing one twos and I was like,
- 4:03Speaker 3: I thought I was gonna die. So I definitely understand that.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But you've done some actual boxing. You've fought as an
- 4:10Speaker 3: amateur and as a professional. You're see what you sixteen
- 4:13Speaker 3: and one was your record?
- 4:15Speaker 4: Them wrong?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, So I started, like I said I was,
- 4:19Speaker 5: I was boxing as an amateur. I fought in the
- 4:21Speaker 5: Golden Gloves. The Golden Gloves was actually my first loss
- 4:24Speaker 5: that I that I've ever took right. I felt like
- 4:27Speaker 5: I was robbed in that fight. What is it is?
- 4:29Speaker 2: What it is?
- 4:29Speaker 4: Right?
- 4:30Speaker 5: But yeah, so you know, I have an amateur background.
- 4:36Speaker 5: The difference for me than a lot of the guys
- 4:39Speaker 5: that came up that I came up with is that
- 4:41Speaker 5: I was in and out right. So I was in
- 4:43Speaker 5: and I was playing basketball. I was young, so you know,
- 4:46Speaker 5: I was into a whole bunch of different sports. So
- 4:49Speaker 5: I wasn't as consistent in the amateurs when I was
- 4:52Speaker 5: coming up the way you know some people was just boxing,
- 4:55Speaker 5: that's it. For me, it was boxing, basketball. I played
- 4:58Speaker 5: baseball as well too, so I did a lot of
- 5:01Speaker 5: different things. So I didn't come up traditionally like all
- 5:03Speaker 5: the other amateurs. And then I got to a point
- 5:06Speaker 5: where I said, listen, I wanted to take this further right.
- 5:10Speaker 5: And like I told you before, my father was a boxer,
- 5:13Speaker 5: but he was only an amateur. So for me, I said,
- 5:15Speaker 5: I want to take it a little bit further than that,
- 5:17Speaker 5: and I went pro. I went A lot of my
- 5:19Speaker 5: fights was overseas, so I fought in Mexico, I fought
- 5:22Speaker 5: in Japan. You know, I fought in a lot of
- 5:24Speaker 5: different countries. Predominantly mainly in Mexico, and I thought, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 5: I think I had like one or two fights out
- 5:32Speaker 5: here in the States, but other than that, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 5: I was I was kind of like overseas, there was
- 5:36Speaker 5: a lot of politics going on, and you know, you
- 5:39Speaker 5: know how you know how the boxing game.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Is, so it made you want to walk away from
- 5:44Speaker 3: from at all.
- 5:46Speaker 5: I think at a at a certain point, it just
- 5:49Speaker 5: kind of like ran his course right, and I had
- 5:50Speaker 5: the mindset of, like Floyd right, like I didn't want
- 5:53Speaker 5: boxing to retire me. I wanted to retire from the sport, right.
- 5:56Speaker 5: I wanted to leave it all my faculties and a
- 5:59Speaker 5: lot of people don't know, like you know, the things
- 6:01Speaker 5: that you've seen behind closed doors is you know, is
- 6:05Speaker 5: like I said, a lot of politics and I you know,
- 6:08Speaker 5: and not not to you know, not to blame anybody,
- 6:10Speaker 5: but I never I never really had people in my
- 6:13Speaker 5: corner that really pushed me that far. Right, A lot
- 6:16Speaker 5: of my a lot of what I was able to
- 6:18Speaker 5: accomplish was based on hard work.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:22Speaker 5: I was the guy that a lot of people really
- 6:24Speaker 5: didn't know about them and I just came up on
- 6:26Speaker 5: the scene and you know, and and and and did
- 6:30Speaker 5: pretty you know, did pretty decent for myself.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Well, I think that's really awesome, you know, even though
- 6:37Speaker 3: I just did uh classes in the gym, sparring with
- 6:40Speaker 3: some friends. You know, it definitely gave me a different
- 6:41Speaker 3: perspective on professional boxing when I watch you know, fighters
- 6:44Speaker 3: and how they move, and not that I could ever
- 6:47Speaker 3: do anything like that, you know, but uh, it's it's
- 6:49Speaker 3: just it just brings a new insight. I just saw
- 6:51Speaker 3: it in a whole different way after that, and it's
- 6:52Speaker 3: it's super cool that you have that experience.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Uh.
- 6:55Speaker 3: And I'm glad you hear talk to us about these
- 6:58Speaker 3: fights that happened over the weekend. So let's get did
- 7:00Speaker 3: into the news. Uh, Ryan Garcia versus Mario Barrios. Ryan
- 7:05Speaker 3: Garcia just had a career saving performance on Saturday. After
- 7:10Speaker 3: I'll just you know what I want to tell you,
- 7:11Speaker 3: I will say myself. I straight up said I'm on
- 7:14Speaker 3: TikTok saying this. I won't hide from it. I expected
- 7:16Speaker 3: Butters to win, and I said I wanted Ryan to
- 7:19Speaker 3: lose because I did not want him to be at
- 7:22Speaker 3: the main event. I was final with him being on
- 7:24Speaker 3: the second or third line on the cards. But I
- 7:26Speaker 3: said that there was a lot more talented fighters that
- 7:28Speaker 3: deserved that spot more than Ryan Garcia, and he showed
- 7:32Speaker 3: me over the weekend. So, uh, what does it get
- 7:35Speaker 3: your take on what we saw? Legend? And you know
- 7:37Speaker 3: this this did any did anybody expect to Have you
- 7:40Speaker 3: heard from anybody that expected Ryan to come out looking
- 7:42Speaker 3: the way he did?
- 7:43Speaker 5: Oh? Well, you know, on my on my pen would
- 7:45Speaker 5: it be It'd be a lot of you know, different
- 7:48Speaker 5: different sides. Right, So I was a little bit different
- 7:53Speaker 5: from you. I wanted Ryan to win, right, because I
- 7:56Speaker 5: really wanted to see him do the rematch with Devin Haynes.
- 7:59Speaker 5: That's really why I wanted Ryan to win, right. I
- 8:01Speaker 5: wanted to rematch because I felt in my spirit, I said,
- 8:03Speaker 5: Ryan lose this fight. I don't think Devin really might
- 8:07Speaker 5: be interested in a rematch with Ryan because he just
- 8:09Speaker 5: lost to Rowley prior to then you lose to Barrios, right,
- 8:13Speaker 5: and so I don't think the hype around that fight
- 8:15Speaker 5: would be that much noise, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:17Speaker 5: So for that reason, I wanted him to win. I
- 8:22Speaker 5: did believe that Ryan could win, right, depending on the
- 8:26Speaker 5: mentality of Ryan, Right, we don't know, like, you know,
- 8:29Speaker 5: it's kind of like, is Ryan heill?
- 8:31Speaker 4: Was he not there?
- 8:32Speaker 5: Then at one point in time, we see Ryan for
- 8:34Speaker 5: the most part, boxing in his kitchen slash living room,
- 8:37Speaker 5: right and I said, jokingly to everybody, I said, uh,
- 8:42Speaker 5: I said, if we get this version of Ryan, have
- 8:44Speaker 5: him in the kitchen all day every day.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I need that man.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Have him in the kitchen and in his living room
- 8:49Speaker 5: if we're gonna get that version of Ryan. And I
- 8:51Speaker 5: thought that was a spectacular showcase that Ryan put on
- 8:56Speaker 5: on Saturday.
- 8:57Speaker 4: You know, so, uh, I.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Felt that I felt that Ryan could win this fight
- 9:04Speaker 5: just because he has power.
- 9:06Speaker 4: He has to be Mario Barrios. He tends to walk
- 9:09Speaker 4: in the straight line, doesn't take his head off the cinelone.
- 9:12Speaker 4: So I felt like if Ryan had the you know,
- 9:14Speaker 4: Ryan was on point. I felt like Ryan was going
- 9:16Speaker 4: to be able to win. Did I think it was
- 9:18Speaker 4: going to look like that?
- 9:19Speaker 2: No?
- 9:19Speaker 4: I didn't think it was going to look like that.
- 9:21Speaker 3: But I'm again, it is the demison. Did you were
- 9:24Speaker 3: you surprised after you saw him on Saturday?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Uh? Not really surprised. I was more impressed, not surprised.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I was impressed that he took care of business in
- 9:34Speaker 2: a professional manner. It was a very businesslike approach. And
- 9:37Speaker 2: we have both been very critical of his his preparation
- 9:42Speaker 2: for fights, for his professionalism in the ring. We've all
- 9:46Speaker 2: been critical of like hey man, he's talented, but he
- 9:49Speaker 2: don't take it seriously enough, or he's talented but he's
- 9:51Speaker 2: a knucklehead. This looked like a professional situation where he's
- 9:55Speaker 2: hopefully ready to take the next turn in his career
- 9:57Speaker 2: now going forward, he's just the names. I don't know
- 10:01Speaker 2: if he can do much with. But he brought secure
- 10:04Speaker 2: his name, and that's not a That's not a good
- 10:06Speaker 2: match for him. That's not a good match for him.
- 10:08Speaker 2: But I get it. He came out well. He looked
- 10:11Speaker 2: well prepared, He looked like he was in shape, he
- 10:14Speaker 2: didn't he looked focused. Whether he took ad or all whatever,
- 10:18Speaker 2: he looked very focused on Saturday, and it was very like,
- 10:23Speaker 2: hey man, I'm here to do a job and that's it. Now.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That being said, legend mentioned Haney that rematches, I don't
- 10:30Speaker 2: know that match even happens because it's so much history there.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think the match is probab gonna be Ryan is
- 10:35Speaker 2: shakurt for a lot of reasons. Because you have the
- 10:38Speaker 2: popularity of Ryan and the greatest of secure that probably
- 10:42Speaker 2: is the next match that ends up happening. Because your course,
- 10:45Speaker 2: as great a fighter as he has, he hasn't had
- 10:47Speaker 2: a lot of big fights, and it's not necessarily his fault,
- 10:49Speaker 2: his whole lot of you know, go on on on
- 10:51Speaker 2: about that, but in terms of his brand and his ability,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I think it's probably best to strike put those two
- 10:57Speaker 2: in the matchup later this summer, eve in the fall
- 11:01Speaker 2: and mark it up and get a sold out venue
- 11:03Speaker 2: of twenty thousand plus an Abstracur win either in a
- 11:06Speaker 2: twelve round UD.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Or a.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Knockout or a stopping somewhere. I think that's we're headed to.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But I think that's the next move just because where
- 11:16Speaker 2: the money is right now. We'll talk about it more
- 11:18Speaker 2: in the show. We're seeing more matches get made because
- 11:21Speaker 2: of money, not because the styles. Everything right now is
- 11:24Speaker 2: business weight. It is not because of oh this fight
- 11:26Speaker 2: versus far as a great matchup. Nah, people are having
- 11:29Speaker 2: with Bread right They're trying to get as much as.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Possible absolutely well, and we'll also talking about what Ryan's
- 11:35Speaker 3: next step is.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I agree.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I think Shakurt is the best best matchup to come.
- 11:38Speaker 3: But here's the thing about why I was so down
- 11:41Speaker 3: on Ryan. To be very clear, you know, I did
- 11:43Speaker 3: say he's got the strength, he can catch. Anybody can
- 11:45Speaker 3: get caught, and if body just gets caught with a
- 11:47Speaker 3: big punch, you know, it could be lights out. So
- 11:50Speaker 3: I'm not sitting here saying that I was just hating,
- 11:52Speaker 3: saying he's trash, blah blah blah, you know anything like that.
- 11:56Speaker 3: I did say that, Yeah, he I was speaking based
- 11:59Speaker 3: on his history of what do we say, two losses
- 12:01Speaker 3: in a no contest in a row, that's last three fights.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So at this time I was like, you can't blame
- 12:07Speaker 3: a guy for you know, expecting more of the same
- 12:10Speaker 3: from Ryan. But let me go ahead and we want
- 12:13Speaker 3: to give a shout out to people in the comments
- 12:15Speaker 3: here on our TikTok. You know, right after Ryan won
- 12:17Speaker 3: and got somebody calling me out, and again respectfully, he said,
- 12:21Speaker 3: I hope the shows the haters that Ryan is one
- 12:22Speaker 3: of those top guys people always trying to get him
- 12:24Speaker 3: out of that conversation that comes from Alex. Let me
- 12:27Speaker 3: say this and I want to get your take on it.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Ryan looked great on Saturday. Ryan is a talented fighter.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I still will not say that he is one of
- 12:34Speaker 3: the greats legend. What do you think about that?
- 12:37Speaker 5: No, I don't think he right now. I wouldn't say
- 12:39Speaker 5: that he's like he's one of the greats. I think
- 12:42Speaker 5: Ryan still has a little bit more to a little
- 12:44Speaker 5: bit more to do to you know, become one of
- 12:47Speaker 5: the greats. For me, I don't really like to cap
- 12:50Speaker 5: a lot of these fighters, right because I feel like
- 12:52Speaker 5: once we cap them, right, we put them on this
- 12:54Speaker 5: pedestal and it's like, okay, what more. So for example, right,
- 12:58Speaker 5: I know everybody loves your Court. Not to go too far.
- 13:01Speaker 5: I know everyone loves your cor going into the court
- 13:05Speaker 5: and tea fight. I told a lot of people, I said, listen,
- 13:07Speaker 5: I don't have she Court as an a class fighter
- 13:09Speaker 5: right now. The reason why is because he has the
- 13:12Speaker 5: talent and I think you know, people say by the
- 13:14Speaker 5: eye test, I can acknowledge someone's skill set by the
- 13:18Speaker 5: eye test, right, But what makes will also make great
- 13:21Speaker 5: fighters doing against top level competition. And again, a lot
- 13:25Speaker 5: of fighters didn't want to fight your cort or what
- 13:28Speaker 5: have you. That's not his fault, right, but we still
- 13:32Speaker 5: haven't seen it yet, And so My thing with Ryan
- 13:35Speaker 5: is I still want to be able to see it
- 13:37Speaker 5: against the top level competition. Do I think that he
- 13:40Speaker 5: has the skill set? Yes, right, does he has fundamentals? Absolutely.
- 13:44Speaker 5: A lot of people look at Ryan as a YouTube star,
- 13:47Speaker 5: but people don't realize that Ryan has an amateur background
- 13:50Speaker 5: as well too, right, So he's very He's very knowledgeable
- 13:54Speaker 5: and has the IQ in that ring. So no, I
- 13:57Speaker 5: wouldn't say he's one of the greats, but popularity wise, yes,
- 14:01Speaker 5: But as far as boxing, I think he still got
- 14:03Speaker 5: a little bit more work to do.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Sure, but I also think that there's you know, being
- 14:08Speaker 3: able to sell a fight and being a great fighter,
- 14:10Speaker 3: which you know I did. Actually didn't realize at the
- 14:13Speaker 3: end of the match on Saturday that they said Brian
- 14:15Speaker 3: had never fought for a world title or sorry, never
- 14:17Speaker 3: won a world title, And I was like, wait a second,
- 14:20Speaker 3: you're right, I guess it didn't really like it didn't
- 14:22Speaker 3: go to mind because he's so popular and he's such
- 14:25Speaker 3: a big name. I was like, how the hell did
- 14:27Speaker 3: you get so popular by never being a world champion?
- 14:29Speaker 3: So I don't know. I mean, Jameson, I'll throw it
- 14:32Speaker 3: back to you. I mean, what does he have to
- 14:33Speaker 3: do what is right, have to do specifically to be
- 14:37Speaker 3: great in this era.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Oh, it's about consistency. I think anything is being really
- 14:43Speaker 2: good consistently. That's what makes great right, not being great
- 14:46Speaker 2: one fight, being suspect the next being an elite fighter.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Being great is being really good every time out where
- 14:53Speaker 2: there's a certain expectation when we tune in does watch
- 14:56Speaker 2: you fight. There are certain expectations and all those pass
- 14:59Speaker 2: are met every Saturday night when we watch you fight.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I think that's what greatness is in my opinion. When
- 15:05Speaker 2: it comes to boxers, now, everybody box says off night.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Now here's the thing. Some people's off night gets beat.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Some people's off night that makes an ugly fight. It's
- 15:12Speaker 2: a difference. But in terms of great I think the
- 15:15Speaker 2: consistency is the key. We look at Terris Crawford. He
- 15:19Speaker 2: was great for a long time. He was in a
- 15:22Speaker 2: very good fighter for a long time. He had his
- 15:24Speaker 2: fights that didn't go so well, but his off night
- 15:27Speaker 2: still won won, team won eleven, you know what I mean,
- 15:30Speaker 2: his off nights working draws. They weren't losses, you know.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So that's the difference between his off night and someone
- 15:35Speaker 2: else's off night. Where it might get dropped, they might
- 15:37Speaker 2: lose a decision. So I think that's the biggest thing.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And look at Floyd, His off nights were a split
- 15:43Speaker 2: decision maybe or a you know, a closer decision to normal.
- 15:47Speaker 2: But it wasn't. It wasn't the oh shit, this it's career,
- 15:51Speaker 2: the fining. It was never that for the all time greats.
- 15:54Speaker 2: So I think that's the biggest thing is consistency and
- 15:57Speaker 2: having expectations and meeting those expectations every time out. I
- 16:01Speaker 2: think that's when you look at a box, what, okay,
- 16:03Speaker 2: that's an X ray fighter.
- 16:06Speaker 3: So then if y'all had to break it down, what
- 16:09Speaker 3: is it that got Ryan so much success, such a
- 16:12Speaker 3: big fan face, such a loyal fan base. I mean,
- 16:14Speaker 3: is it that he has not got power and that
- 16:17Speaker 3: just people like watching those YouTube compilations legend? I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 3: we're that's what I think. That's why I brought that up.
- 16:22Speaker 3: But I mean he seems to have a lot of
- 16:24Speaker 3: fervor for somebody that I'm sorry, yeah, has just never
- 16:27Speaker 3: shown that consistency, had never shown you know, uh, never
- 16:30Speaker 3: taken on great opponents, et cetera, et cetera. What are
- 16:32Speaker 3: your thoughts?
- 16:33Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, Oh, I think Ryan because of his
- 16:36Speaker 4: his his speed, right. And then Ryan also knew how
- 16:39Speaker 4: to capitalize off the social media market, right, and I
- 16:42Speaker 4: thought that was that was amazing as well too.
- 16:44Speaker 5: And then with his speed and everything like that, people say,
- 16:47Speaker 5: oh wow, this guy's fast. Then we see him go
- 16:50Speaker 5: in the ring, he's knocking guys out, right, and Ronnie
- 16:52Speaker 5: has one of the highest knockout percentages in the game.
- 16:55Speaker 5: So not only are you entertaining, because remember boxing is
- 16:58Speaker 5: a business, so it's also about entertaining. So Ryan understood
- 17:02Speaker 5: the entertainment aspect, right, not more so of like you know,
- 17:06Speaker 5: his his his boxing fundamentals, his boxing fundamentals, you know
- 17:12Speaker 5: only got them but so far, but him understanding, right,
- 17:15Speaker 5: him understanding entertainment right, that boxing is a business. One
- 17:20Speaker 5: thing that when I was coming up, you know, they
- 17:22Speaker 5: used to always tell me, you can have older skills
- 17:24Speaker 5: in the world, but if you don't know how to
- 17:26Speaker 5: put butts in the seats, then what are we doing here?
- 17:31Speaker 2: Right?
- 17:31Speaker 5: So the fact that Ryan understood that and he capitalized that.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Even if you think about going into this fight with
- 17:37Speaker 5: Mario Barrios, what was Ryan doing. He was streaming, So
- 17:40Speaker 5: anytime you get a chance to stream, and then now
- 17:42Speaker 5: you bring that culture with you, and you bringing more
- 17:45Speaker 5: people with you, and then you going on other people's streams.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Now their people get to see who you are. And
- 17:51Speaker 5: then so now that it creates this mass of following.
- 17:54Speaker 5: And then you know, Ryan got the charms, he got
- 17:56Speaker 5: the looks, he got the slick head.
- 17:58Speaker 4: You know, they promoted him as the next Golden boy.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Right, and that's completely fair, and I guess I understand.
- 18:07Speaker 3: My take was always that you've got the skill on
- 18:09Speaker 3: one hand, you've got the social media presence putting the
- 18:11Speaker 3: butts in the seats. To me, Ryan was always kind
- 18:14Speaker 3: of more on the other one, you know, more on
- 18:16Speaker 3: the social media side than the actual skills in the ring.
- 18:19Speaker 3: But again this is speaking of where he was before.
- 18:22Speaker 3: And definitely we have a Ryan two point zero after Saturday.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Jameson for you specifically, you know, you and I have
- 18:28Speaker 3: talked about whether how excited we are about HAINI rematch
- 18:31Speaker 3: versus Garcia. You have been always super stoked about it,
- 18:34Speaker 3: but how do you feel about how do you feel
- 18:36Speaker 3: now after seeing those two guys and what they look like.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I don't think it happens. I don't think so I
- 18:42Speaker 2: think that I don't see HAINI wanting that. To be
- 18:44Speaker 2: honest with you, I think that whatever happened happened during that.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I think they're both ready and willing to move on. Obviously,
- 18:50Speaker 2: Haney's situations rebounded some lightly with his last fight. I
- 18:55Speaker 2: can see a situation where you again, I see where
- 18:58Speaker 2: it Shakur versus Ryan in a big venue somewhere in
- 19:02Speaker 2: the next six months. I think fast and bigger play
- 19:04Speaker 2: because there's more money at stake, and like he just mentioned,
- 19:08Speaker 2: Ryan comes with a whole different task of fans that
- 19:11Speaker 2: Shakur don't have and probably never will have, because that's
- 19:14Speaker 2: not his kind of thing. He brings a certain he
- 19:17Speaker 2: brings a non boxing fan value to a fight to
- 19:21Speaker 2: where I don't know how many other boxers can say that.
- 19:24Speaker 2: So if you have a chance to make a fight
- 19:26Speaker 2: with a guy like that, you probably do it. Now.
- 19:29Speaker 2: The whole thing with Hani Hanne's name is not as
- 19:32Speaker 2: big as it could or should be, or maybe ever
- 19:35Speaker 2: will be. I think Shakur's name is a lot bigger now,
- 19:39Speaker 2: especially the last couple of fights he's had, the results
- 19:42Speaker 2: he's taken place with his last couple fights, I think
- 19:46Speaker 2: that that'st the fight to make Hanni would feel like
- 19:48Speaker 2: a step in the wrong direction for Ryan as of
- 19:51Speaker 2: this situation. Plus with Ryan thinks it's still a bit
- 19:53Speaker 2: of unpredictable. So you want to take advantage while his
- 19:55Speaker 2: value is high because you don't want him losing to
- 19:57Speaker 2: Hani then talking about oh he's gonna fight courtin No,
- 20:00Speaker 2: that ain't gonna work. So I think you take advantage
- 20:02Speaker 2: of all his values as high as it is right now.
- 20:03Speaker 2: He make that big fight fight night happen.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and let's not neglect to mention that Shakur was
- 20:10Speaker 3: at that fight. He was guest commentating, so you know
- 20:12Speaker 3: he definitely knows what to do with his winning is
- 20:15Speaker 3: a new found starter. I'm like, he's out there, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 3: you see the show in his face, he's being very
- 20:19Speaker 3: charming on the mic. So, uh legend other than skor
- 20:23Speaker 3: you know, are there any other fights for Ryan Garcia
- 20:24Speaker 3: that he could take that would kind of be makes
- 20:26Speaker 3: sense for him? Or as that pretty much the obvious
- 20:29Speaker 3: next step.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Do you think I'm gonna be honest with you, I
- 20:34Speaker 5: really didn't want to see that. Did your court fight
- 20:36Speaker 5: versus Ryan?
- 20:37Speaker 4: Right? And the reason why for me?
- 20:40Speaker 5: For me it didn't really make sense now, I get
- 20:42Speaker 5: from a business standpoint, right, But for me, I think
- 20:45Speaker 5: story sells right. And Ryan and Devin has the perfect story,
- 20:49Speaker 5: right the revenge, you know, Devin saying I want to
- 20:51Speaker 5: get it back in blood, you know, and the hype
- 20:54Speaker 5: around that now I know recently Devin.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Said that the ship has sailed.
- 20:58Speaker 5: But from what you know, some people say that could
- 21:01Speaker 5: be a marketing tactic, right, So it could be that.
- 21:05Speaker 5: So I want to see the fight. I don't know
- 21:08Speaker 5: if we will because for me, right, it's kind of
- 21:11Speaker 5: like was it the pds or did you did you
- 21:15Speaker 5: get beat? Like right, like which one was?
- 21:16Speaker 2: Did Ryan?
- 21:17Speaker 3: Did Ryan have your number?
- 21:18Speaker 5: Or what? And I think as a boxer, for Devin,
- 21:21Speaker 5: I think that you want to get classification on that,
- 21:23Speaker 5: and classification is is getting.
- 21:25Speaker 4: It in the you know, getting it back in the ring.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Now to answer to answer your question, if Ryan I
- 21:32Speaker 5: like Ryan, you know, you know, if let's say Richardson
- 21:37Speaker 5: hitches could go to one forty seven, right, I like
- 21:40Speaker 5: that fight. I think that's a good matchup, you know.
- 21:41Speaker 5: I think Richardson Hitchings, I think right now, him being
- 21:46Speaker 5: at one forty I think he's probably draining himself, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 5: at one forty I didn't like the way he looked
- 21:51Speaker 5: on the scale. So I think if Richardson hitches go
- 21:53Speaker 5: to one forty seven, well even til right til you'll
- 21:55Speaker 5: go to one forty seven is I think it's about
- 21:57Speaker 5: that time that he moves up to one forty seven.
- 21:59Speaker 5: So I think that's a good fight as well too.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Who else who else is at one forty seven that
- 22:05Speaker 5: you know, we're definitely big richest and Hitchins fans here,
- 22:08Speaker 5: and we were bumped that he didn't that.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I asked him questions about the sudden like you mentioned,
- 22:15Speaker 2: he looked kind of funny on the scale and then
- 22:17Speaker 2: like the you know, the stepping away night day of
- 22:21Speaker 2: the fight. It was it was lost of going on
- 22:23Speaker 2: that day.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, good, I'm sorry, you're good, go ahead.
- 22:30Speaker 4: No, I was saying, yeah, he looked he looked just
- 22:32Speaker 4: he looked very flat to me.
- 22:34Speaker 5: You know, when I looked at Oscar de Walte, he
- 22:36Speaker 5: looked full, he looked healthy, he looked like he was
- 22:39Speaker 5: ready to go. When I looked at Hitchings, I was like,
- 22:41Speaker 5: I'm not really liking I think it might be that
- 22:44Speaker 5: time to go to one forty you know, go to
- 22:46Speaker 5: one forty seven. Keishawn Davis is talking about going to
- 22:49Speaker 5: one forty seven as well too. You know that could
- 22:51Speaker 5: possibly be a matchup for Ryan. You know, I just
- 22:54Speaker 5: think there's I like this your Court fight, but I'm
- 22:57Speaker 5: not really sold on the fight like that. I think
- 22:59Speaker 5: there's the fights for your Court as well too, where
- 23:02Speaker 5: he can stay at one.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Well, I guess for me, I just I want to
- 23:07Speaker 3: see what she Court does next and fight anybody, just
- 23:09Speaker 3: because he has this newfound stardom and I just want
- 23:12Speaker 3: to see, like sure, fight the other guy that it
- 23:15Speaker 3: was and probably came back from career ruin or whatever
- 23:19Speaker 3: you want to call it. But I did say that
- 23:22Speaker 3: I I just kind of said the same thing as you, Legend,
- 23:24Speaker 3: that I would take Ryan Haney Remae to see it
- 23:27Speaker 3: done right. I mean, his victory was literally tainted after that.
- 23:32Speaker 3: So I don't know. I mean, how let me ask this,
- 23:38Speaker 3: and we feel free to speculate for both of me.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I will start with you, Legend, But are we going
- 23:43Speaker 3: to see Ryan keep this up, you know, keep this
- 23:45Speaker 3: level of focus and skill in the ring up or
- 23:48Speaker 3: we just kind of expected him to, you know, ride
- 23:51Speaker 3: the wave and then crash back down like he did,
- 23:53Speaker 3: you know the last few fights.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Oh.
- 23:56Speaker 5: In my opinion, I think I think we go to
- 24:00Speaker 5: see this Ryan a little bit more right. He just
- 24:02Speaker 5: wanted he just wanted, you know, a title. I think
- 24:05Speaker 5: this motivation behind that now, I think he understands the
- 24:10Speaker 5: severity of not showing up for these fights, right, and
- 24:13Speaker 5: how it can cost you and where mentally it can
- 24:16Speaker 5: take you, right, And I don't think I don't think
- 24:19Speaker 5: anybody wants to go to go to that dark place
- 24:21Speaker 5: like Willingly, right. So I think, you know, with this
- 24:24Speaker 5: Ray here, I think this is a good stepping stone
- 24:27Speaker 5: for him. And I think him fighting Barrios and being
- 24:29Speaker 5: able to show a little bit more right because a
- 24:33Speaker 5: lot of people just talking about the right hand. I
- 24:34Speaker 5: thought the jab was beautiful that night, right, I thought
- 24:37Speaker 5: his face was beautiful. I thought the moving around. So
- 24:40Speaker 5: I think Ryan, you know, can go back and watch
- 24:43Speaker 5: that and say, man, you know, when I'm on top
- 24:45Speaker 5: of my game and I'm healthy and I'm in the
- 24:48Speaker 5: right space, I feel like I can be anybody.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:51Speaker 5: That's that's supposed to be the mindset of a fighter,
- 24:53Speaker 5: right when you when you go into the into a fight,
- 24:56Speaker 5: like how he performed against Roly. There's a lot of
- 24:59Speaker 5: doubt right after that performance. It's a lot of doubt.
- 25:02Speaker 5: But when you put on a spectacular performance like that.
- 25:04Speaker 5: But I gave it an A. I didn't give it
- 25:06Speaker 5: an A plus like it you know a lot of people.
- 25:08Speaker 5: I gave it an AID because I feel like mine
- 25:09Speaker 5: could have did a little bit more look to the body.
- 25:12Speaker 5: But outside of that, I thought he put on a
- 25:14Speaker 5: great performance. So I think we see a little bit
- 25:17Speaker 5: more of that.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Okay, jameson, Yeah, do you think we're going to see
- 25:21Speaker 3: the new Ryan or is it just a blip on
- 25:23Speaker 3: the radio.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I think there is a I think the chances are
- 25:27Speaker 2: higher than they were two weeks ago when we spoke
- 25:29Speaker 2: about him. My thing is this what happens when he
- 25:32Speaker 2: goes up a notch in competition. We all respect Barrios
- 25:36Speaker 2: is not the same guy as any of guys we've
- 25:38Speaker 2: been mentioning over the last ten minutes. Just a caliber fighter.
- 25:41Speaker 2: He's not that quite conversation. He's just not. So when
- 25:45Speaker 2: Ryan goes up, whether it's Hani was Shakur, whether it's
- 25:52Speaker 2: whoever it might be, whoever it might be along the way,
- 25:54Speaker 2: that caliber fighter, what happens when he's in the ring
- 25:57Speaker 2: with somebody that's just as talented, if not more talented
- 26:00Speaker 2: than him, and adversity strikes, then what happens to the
- 26:03Speaker 2: same bad habits. He kind of reminds me of a
- 26:06Speaker 2: mirror con in a way where he's talented was all Hill,
- 26:08Speaker 2: but once the ring, once the adversity hits in a ring,
- 26:12Speaker 2: all Hill kind of breaks loose and then a lot
- 26:13Speaker 2: of bad habits come out. He gets dropped or just
- 26:16Speaker 2: starts being undisciplined, and then it becomes what it becomes.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Well, And my thing that I said to before this
- 26:24Speaker 3: fight is that, you know, Jamison mentioned that even if
- 26:27Speaker 3: Ran loses and his stardom goes down, he's still a
- 26:30Speaker 3: guy who can sell fights and put butts in seats,
- 26:32Speaker 3: And so I thought maybe he would go in not
- 26:34Speaker 3: as focused because he's like, no matter what, I'll still
- 26:36Speaker 3: be a name, I'll still have my fandom, you know,
- 26:38Speaker 3: kind of coasting on that. But if it could also
- 26:40Speaker 3: work the other way, like eventued legend, he's champed now,
- 26:43Speaker 3: like he's got the high of you know, having not
- 26:46Speaker 3: just fandom but respect. You know, I had to also
- 26:49Speaker 3: give respect to Ryan for that performance. After taking shit.
- 26:52Speaker 3: So maybe that is just gonna, you know, keep driving him.
- 26:54Speaker 3: He's like, you want more, like it added, you want more,
- 26:57Speaker 3: right right? So yeah, I mean it's quite possible. Here's
- 27:00Speaker 3: the thing, all right, Oh, I guess I could finish
- 27:03Speaker 3: off with this. It is always better for boxing if
- 27:06Speaker 3: Ryan is a talented, bankable boxing star. Okay. My problem
- 27:12Speaker 3: was that I don't think he really had it in
- 27:14Speaker 3: him to put in a super great performance be a
- 27:16Speaker 3: great fighter, and was coasting off social media, you know,
- 27:19Speaker 3: the shenanigans that people talked about that he got into.
- 27:23Speaker 3: And I didn't want him at the top because I
- 27:25Speaker 3: thought of the people deserved it. But if he turns
- 27:27Speaker 3: into the fighter that deserves it, cool man, I'm coming back.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I'm there for the next Rye Garcia.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Let me let me ask you, do you do you
- 27:34Speaker 5: think that his last performance showed you that he does
- 27:38Speaker 5: deserve it.
- 27:41Speaker 3: It shows me that he if he keeps this up consistently,
- 27:43Speaker 3: as Jamis said, yeah, he deserves to be, uh the
- 27:46Speaker 3: the main event in fights. Yes, I was saying that,
- 27:49Speaker 3: you know, he could be the fight before the main event,
- 27:52Speaker 3: and I would tune in. I would I would watch
- 27:55Speaker 3: because I just love watching fights. But if he looks
- 27:57Speaker 3: like that, and one I think under rade. Thing that
- 28:01Speaker 3: hasn't been mentioned about him was defense that night, like
- 28:04Speaker 3: his defense was was on point. Uh. I expected Mario
- 28:07Speaker 3: Badios to come learn from his loss of tank, learned
- 28:10Speaker 3: from his loss to pack and come with that ring
- 28:13Speaker 3: IQ just top tier. Uh, you know, avoid the heart
- 28:17Speaker 3: punches went on probably on points and not to stop
- 28:20Speaker 3: at your knockdown. But but man, you let me down.
- 28:22Speaker 3: You did not do that yet you hear.
- 28:26Speaker 5: A lot of people told me that they feel like
- 28:28Speaker 5: Barrios had more. He had more, he had more skill
- 28:32Speaker 5: sets than Ryan. So a lot of people felt like
- 28:34Speaker 5: he will he will be able to win.
- 28:36Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 28:36Speaker 5: I didn't totally agree with it, right because when I
- 28:40Speaker 5: watched Barrios, it's almost like the same thing as a
- 28:43Speaker 5: warrior at heart. Right, So he's gonna come forward, he's
- 28:46Speaker 5: gonna you know, he's gonna try to overwhelm you at
- 28:49Speaker 5: times and you know throw, you know, throw his combinations.
- 28:52Speaker 5: But I just felt like the speed of Ryan, and
- 28:54Speaker 5: I knew and I kept telling people this. I said,
- 28:57Speaker 5: they keep worrying about the left hand Ryan, It's going
- 29:00Speaker 5: to work on his right. I'm telling y'all what because
- 29:03Speaker 5: what do you that's that's that's the second surprise rate there, right,
- 29:06Speaker 5: Like why I keep throwing the same punch And I
- 29:08Speaker 5: know every end you have my former trainer with you,
- 29:12Speaker 5: so I have to I have to switch it up
- 29:14Speaker 5: because he know me best, right, So I know he's
- 29:17Speaker 5: gonna be whispering your air and telling you a whole
- 29:19Speaker 5: bunch of things. And I think what Joe had said
- 29:21Speaker 5: after the fight. He said that that they they trained
- 29:24Speaker 5: for the right hand. But there's a difference between training
- 29:28Speaker 5: for the right hand and expecting the right hand. All right,
- 29:32Speaker 5: you could train for but you still may not be
- 29:34Speaker 5: expecting the right hand right because you know that you
- 29:37Speaker 5: know Ryan well, most people say Ryan typically doesn't throw
- 29:40Speaker 5: the right hand at that much.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Sure, And you know, let's also I don't want to
- 29:47Speaker 3: you know, poo Pool Barrios or what it did in
- 29:48Speaker 3: the ring. He made it. You know, he went the distance,
- 29:50Speaker 3: he got hit some real strong shots. He got put
- 29:53Speaker 3: down in the first round. But you know, you said,
- 29:55Speaker 3: he's a word and you know, credit to him for uh.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I wouldn't say that he was sleepwalking in the ring
- 30:02Speaker 3: or anything like that. He wasn't snoozing. Uh. But yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 3: I mean he just he just didn't have it that
- 30:07Speaker 3: night and Ryan didn't so but but yeah, and again
- 30:11Speaker 3: I guess I'll say that like I want to watch
- 30:14Speaker 3: that version of Ryan going forward. That's what I do
- 30:17Speaker 3: really want, So you know, don't don't don't come back.
- 30:21Speaker 5: I'm going to ask you, you guys a question, of course,
- 30:25Speaker 5: if if we see this version of Ryan right mentally strong,
- 30:31Speaker 5: throwing the jab out, this speed, is on point and
- 30:33Speaker 5: everything like that, does he give Devin Haney more of
- 30:36Speaker 5: a trouble if they was to fight in a rematch?
- 30:40Speaker 3: Javis sad. I'll let you take this one because I've
- 30:42Speaker 3: been I don't want to monopolize the conversation.
- 30:44Speaker 2: No, no, I agree. I think that does happen. I
- 30:47Speaker 2: think that even though he was on got test for
- 30:51Speaker 2: PDS in the first one, the fight was the fight.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Why if you'd have told me that he wasn't on
- 30:57Speaker 2: PDS or his I don't know how much pe really
- 31:00Speaker 2: matter when it comes about it. I don't honestly don't.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Like I've heard and all kind of different things when it
- 31:06Speaker 2: comes to that. So I don't know how much it
- 31:08Speaker 2: felt like Ryan was the better fighter that night, he
- 31:11Speaker 2: could hit the Barry Bonds, you saw all he wanted.
- 31:13Speaker 2: It didn't feel like that affected anything personally. It felt
- 31:16Speaker 2: like one guy was the faster, stronger guy that particular night,
- 31:20Speaker 2: and it felt like Devin Haney mentally was not in
- 31:24Speaker 2: that fight. Mentally, he was not in that fight. That
- 31:28Speaker 2: being said, if Ryan is using the speed in athleticism
- 31:33Speaker 2: versus Hani, may get help fight. And that's the thing
- 31:35Speaker 2: I think we get. If everybody's clean and everything's equal,
- 31:38Speaker 2: then we get one hell of a fight. With that
- 31:40Speaker 2: being said, it's tough facing a guy that gave you
- 31:44Speaker 2: those kind of problems earlier, and there's so much suspicion
- 31:48Speaker 2: around it. Mentally, I don't know how strong Haiti is
- 31:51Speaker 2: to overcome all the nonsense that would go over pre fight.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I don't know if he's mature enough to handle. Okay,
- 31:57Speaker 2: it felt like the previous fight, all all that stuff
- 32:00Speaker 2: I was going on pre fight, if it impacted him,
- 32:02Speaker 2: it was obviously wearing on him. If Haiti can be
- 32:06Speaker 2: focused tunnel vision, focusing on the fight with the fight only,
- 32:10Speaker 2: then I think we had a hell of a fight
- 32:11Speaker 2: go either way. But if he allows all that shit
- 32:13Speaker 2: to get to him, again and it's impacting how he
- 32:15Speaker 2: trains repairs that I think Ryan wins again, and this
- 32:19Speaker 2: time it would be vindicated because it's clean. It'd be
- 32:21Speaker 2: a battleo for Handy. That's why I still don't think
- 32:23Speaker 2: the fight happens. I just think for Haynes's kind of
- 32:26Speaker 2: lose lose. If you win, it's like, okay, normally no
- 32:30Speaker 2: one cares. But it's not like a big deal because
- 32:32Speaker 2: the first one are no contest. It's not like the
- 32:34Speaker 2: Margarito and Codo where one guy had, you know, loaded
- 32:37Speaker 2: gloves and then he had a running back. That's something
- 32:40Speaker 2: totally different. This one is like, all right, well, god
- 32:42Speaker 2: failed a PD test. But even watching the fight, it
- 32:46Speaker 2: wasn't it was bad. I don't know how much Hany
- 32:48Speaker 2: gains from, if anything, I think Ryan had more to
- 32:51Speaker 2: game from the running it back than and he does
- 32:54Speaker 2: mm well and on that know.
- 32:56Speaker 3: We also I also had to publicly apologize to David
- 32:59Speaker 3: Haiti because I was expected him to lose to Brian
- 33:01Speaker 3: Norman Jr. Because of the previous performances. Remember he lost
- 33:05Speaker 3: lost to Ryan. Uh looked, people said he he robbed
- 33:10Speaker 3: uh uh uh uh No, No, I'm sorry. Lochenko let
- 33:14Speaker 3: me Cheko. Sorry, he but people were like totally down
- 33:17Speaker 3: to him, said the Lomachenko absolutely should have won and something.
- 33:20Speaker 3: And then the dude that that terrible Times Square fight
- 33:23Speaker 3: that he just was asleep at the wheel. So it's
- 33:27Speaker 3: kind of the same thing, you know, him coming back
- 33:29Speaker 3: against Brian Norman, was it Devin Haney two point oh,
- 33:31Speaker 3: just like Ryan is. But yeah, if I based on
- 33:35Speaker 3: what Ryan looks like, I think he would give Devin
- 33:37Speaker 3: Haney problems a rematch. Yes, completely clean, above board, one
- 33:43Speaker 3: hundred percent on the level. I still think this, especially
- 33:45Speaker 3: this version of Ryan uh, both with the speed and
- 33:49Speaker 3: strength and focus and defense, would be a problem for
- 33:53Speaker 3: Devin Hated.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Yeah, got.
- 33:56Speaker 3: So, but we'll see. I mean, yeah, I'll I'll take it.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I'll I'll take that rematch. But I don't know. I
- 34:02Speaker 3: I definitely I would be most excited about a Ryan
- 34:07Speaker 3: Chakor fight because that's yet another level for Shakur to
- 34:11Speaker 3: demonstrate where his skills lie, you know what I mean,
- 34:14Speaker 3: Because he's been kind of just with time saying well,
- 34:17Speaker 3: I can put on an exciting fight and I can
- 34:19Speaker 3: you know, have good defense but also be aggressive and
- 34:21Speaker 3: have power and blah blah, blah blah. So that's yet
- 34:24Speaker 3: another feather in Shakur's cap if he goes in the
- 34:26Speaker 3: ring against Ryan and beats him. So I don't know,
- 34:29Speaker 3: I like that, yeah, but uh yeah, I mean that's
- 34:34Speaker 3: all I'll say. Really exciting fight, I gotta say. Even
- 34:37Speaker 3: though I was just like just seeing all of the
- 34:40Speaker 3: hate comments in my head, just calling me an idiot,
- 34:42Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what, it's still why I love boxing,
- 34:44Speaker 3: and anything could happen.
- 34:45Speaker 4: So you're right, this is just sport of boxing.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Any anything can happen, Like you know, a lot, you know,
- 34:49Speaker 5: it's crazy you can give a prediction and then people like, oh,
- 34:53Speaker 5: you don't know boxing because you know you predicted the
- 34:56Speaker 5: other outcome of the fight, you know what I'm saying. So,
- 35:00Speaker 5: you know a lot of people just get they get
- 35:01Speaker 5: overly excited and stuff like that.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Sure, but at the end of the day, hey, we're
- 35:05Speaker 3: all here to talk about the greatest sport in the
- 35:07Speaker 3: world because we love it so much. So it's all
- 35:10Speaker 3: and good fun and good face. So let's actually switch
- 35:13Speaker 3: up tracks to from some really really young sighting fighters
- 35:17Speaker 3: to a few graandpe's that are coming back in the
- 35:18Speaker 3: ring soon. It turns out we've got Mayweather versus Tyson
- 35:22Speaker 3: in the spring, which Jameson said that to the group chat.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I immediately was like, that's a I come on, don't
- 35:27Speaker 3: give me this. That's not true. It can't be true.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Part of me still doesn't believe it. I've read the
- 35:32Speaker 3: new story. I still don't believe it. And then again
- 35:34Speaker 3: Mayweather versus Packing Out two in the September. So legend,
- 35:38Speaker 3: how do you feel about these Grampees coming back in
- 35:40Speaker 3: the ring? Is it something that's good for the sport
- 35:42Speaker 3: or is it totally nostalgia cash grab man?
- 35:46Speaker 4: Listen, man, I don't. I don't want to see it.
- 35:49Speaker 4: You know, I don't want to see it.
- 35:51Speaker 5: I'm a watch it, of course, right, those are one
- 35:53Speaker 5: of my two favorite fighters.
- 35:56Speaker 4: But no, I don't. I don't want to see it.
- 35:57Speaker 4: I think sometimes, you know, you.
- 36:00Speaker 5: Sometimes it's better just to leave versus the you know,
- 36:03Speaker 5: you're doing it just for you know, just for the
- 36:06Speaker 5: entertainment purposes or the money and stuff like that, because
- 36:09Speaker 5: it ruins it. Right, Like you know, these they're not
- 36:12Speaker 5: they're not in their problem anymore. They're older now, they
- 36:15Speaker 5: got grandkids and all this stuff like that, right, so
- 36:17Speaker 5: it's like for me, I don't want to see I
- 36:22Speaker 5: don't want to see a Mike Tyson versus a Floyd
- 36:24Speaker 5: money made. But I don't want to say Mike Tyson
- 36:26Speaker 5: as what like sixty years old or something like that.
- 36:29Speaker 5: You know Floyd is about forty nine.
- 36:31Speaker 4: I don't.
- 36:32Speaker 5: I don't really you know, Like I said, I'm gonna
- 36:34Speaker 5: watch it, But if you asked me if I was
- 36:37Speaker 5: excited about it, No, I'm not gonna call everybody up
- 36:40Speaker 5: and say, hey, let's have it, let's have this fight party,
- 36:42Speaker 5: then I'm not gonna do that.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Well, okay, then let me ask you this, because I
- 36:48Speaker 3: of course there's you can't take away what living legends
- 36:51Speaker 3: these guys are, literally, but and you know you had
- 36:54Speaker 3: the time when they're so excited to watch a fighter
- 36:56Speaker 3: was appointment appointment watching it? But why you're still gonna
- 37:00Speaker 3: watch it knowing that they're gravy's You know what I'm
- 37:02Speaker 3: saying Like I'm not even coming at you or anything.
- 37:04Speaker 3: I'm just saying like, for sure, what do you?
- 37:06Speaker 2: What do you?
- 37:06Speaker 3: What do people feel like they're getting out of this
- 37:10Speaker 3: knowing that these guys are already pass their prime, they're old?
- 37:12Speaker 3: Like what if you if you're gonna watch it, What
- 37:15Speaker 3: is the best possible locome for you as a fan?
- 37:17Speaker 3: You know you want to see a.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Really great fight.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Is it just because it makes it feel young again?
- 37:22Speaker 3: I don't know, I mean, what's what's the reason. I guess.
- 37:25Speaker 5: I guess for me personally, it's just I guess the
- 37:28Speaker 5: entertainment aspect, and we can you can look at it
- 37:30Speaker 5: and say, you know, well, they're fighting two different weight classes.
- 37:34Speaker 5: That's that's number one, right, If they were younger, it
- 37:35Speaker 5: would be completely different weight classes.
- 37:38Speaker 4: But I just think it's you know, just for.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Me, it's just you know, supporting two legends that that
- 37:44Speaker 5: that you know that I grew up watching and and
- 37:47Speaker 5: me being active, you know, as far as speaking about
- 37:51Speaker 5: fights and stuff like that.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I have to watch it right in a sense.
- 37:54Speaker 5: But if if I if I wasn't doing what I'm
- 37:57Speaker 5: doing now, I just just think, you know, it's Floyd
- 38:00Speaker 5: money made with right, same reason why I watched Floyd
- 38:03Speaker 5: fight Logan pol same reason why I watched Mike Tyson
- 38:06Speaker 5: fight Jake paul Is.
- 38:09Speaker 4: More so you know them and.
- 38:12Speaker 5: I guess they're they're you know the aura what they
- 38:15Speaker 5: did to the sport, or they're for the sport rather
- 38:18Speaker 5: and you know all the accolades and their skill sets
- 38:20Speaker 5: and stuff like that. So I guess, you know, it's
- 38:23Speaker 5: just you know, something cool to do, something cool to watch.
- 38:28Speaker 3: I guess I can't really, I can't feel the same way.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I mean, I skipped out on the Tyson and Paul
- 38:33Speaker 3: and Mayweather and log Actually, well that's not true. Sorry,
- 38:37Speaker 3: I sorry, I don't want to lie. Uh. I watched
- 38:40Speaker 3: the Mayweather Pauli fight only because these Is and Marrow
- 38:43Speaker 3: were doing the commentary. That's the only reason.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Uh.
- 38:45Speaker 3: But but they weren't even that funny.
- 38:47Speaker 2: They weren't even that funny.
- 38:48Speaker 3: And I realized that was when they're right around when
- 38:50Speaker 3: they're beef was happening. But that's a whole other conversation.
- 38:53Speaker 3: But I just I just feel like I feel like
- 38:55Speaker 3: supporting the legends. For me, to support these legends, that's
- 38:58Speaker 3: by not watching this and not being into this for me.
- 39:01Speaker 3: But Javis said, what about you? How do you feel
- 39:03Speaker 3: about me?
- 39:03Speaker 2: Whether they're coming back? All this indicator? All this is
- 39:07Speaker 2: a recession indicator. Shit's bad out outside. Things is bad.
- 39:11Speaker 2: People ain't got it and they do whatever they can
- 39:13Speaker 2: to get it. I'm not happy if for like, I
- 39:16Speaker 2: don't like counting other men's pockets. I wasn't raised like that.
- 39:19Speaker 2: That's not what I do. However, if Floyd made all
- 39:21Speaker 2: that damn money on that showtime contract, if he's any
- 39:25Speaker 2: kind of close event broke, we have a huge problem.
- 39:28Speaker 2: We have a he doesn't have multiple nights of two
- 39:31Speaker 2: million dollar fights, Like what do we talk? Like? What
- 39:33Speaker 2: are we talking about? Like, with all due respect, there
- 39:36Speaker 2: should not be the word boxing him. Boxing should not
- 39:40Speaker 2: even be a word of sense that it shouldn't even
- 39:43Speaker 2: be talking about that like something. We're missing something here.
- 39:46Speaker 2: And I know there's a lawsuit going on between him
- 39:48Speaker 2: and al Hayman and Schaeffer, and I know there's some
- 39:52Speaker 2: legal stuff going on, so that's a whole different thing.
- 39:54Speaker 2: But he's made way too much money over that last
- 40:00Speaker 2: Time contract and the exhibition since then to this to
- 40:04Speaker 2: even be a I hope he's doing it for the
- 40:06Speaker 2: fun of it. I really truly hope.
- 40:08Speaker 1: So.
- 40:08Speaker 2: But we know boxers don't box in they lay forties
- 40:12Speaker 2: early fifties. Just because we are not slow, we know
- 40:15Speaker 2: how this goes. Roy Jones just finished fied a couple
- 40:18Speaker 2: of years ago because he owed taxes we know how
- 40:20Speaker 2: this shit goes. Now, with all that being said, like
- 40:24Speaker 2: legend mentioned they had different weight classes. To me, that's
- 40:27Speaker 2: a turn offly itself. At least Floyd and Manny are
- 40:31Speaker 2: similar in size and stature and weight classes. Mike Tyson
- 40:35Speaker 2: don't mean to what forty in the ring with the
- 40:37Speaker 2: times like really doing like this doesn't make any sense,
- 40:41Speaker 2: Like this is not this is not this is not cool.
- 40:43Speaker 2: This ain't really cool. But I gotta get it because
- 40:45Speaker 2: if someone has a check for you and you don't
- 40:48Speaker 2: have a whole lot other ways of getting a check,
- 40:50Speaker 2: you're gonna do what it takes to get said checked.
- 40:53Speaker 2: So business wise, of course I get it. I'm not
- 40:55Speaker 2: We're not stupid, we know what's going on. But boxing wise,
- 40:58Speaker 2: I'm disgusted, but I'm surely discussed because not gonna be
- 41:00Speaker 2: a real fight. It's a bunch of pitt a pattering
- 41:03Speaker 2: and Mike. We saw Tyson's last fight and after the
- 41:06Speaker 2: first half round one it was overall he didn't have
- 41:08Speaker 2: no endorans to fight. So I'm all I'm all bad
- 41:11Speaker 2: over I'm all mad over it.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I'm not as angry, but I'm definitely disinterested. I mean,
- 41:16Speaker 3: when it comes to these older folks, like, I'm happy
- 41:19Speaker 3: to never see them in the ring ever again. He
- 41:20Speaker 3: who loses is like, that's the guy that got me
- 41:22Speaker 3: into boxing when I was a baby, and he came
- 41:25Speaker 3: back to do something like a few years ago in Mexico.
- 41:27Speaker 3: But you could tell that was just him having fun
- 41:29Speaker 3: fucking around dues. He was kind of just chatting with
- 41:32Speaker 3: Canelo in between rounds, stuff like that. But I'm happy
- 41:35Speaker 3: to never see who is out of Chavs back in
- 41:36Speaker 3: the ring ever again. But let's let's speak specifically about
- 41:41Speaker 3: Maywe versus Pakia, because yeah, the Tyson thing, that's a whole,
- 41:45Speaker 3: that's that's that's ridiculous, that's what. But you know, same thing.
- 41:49Speaker 3: I'd be happy to never see Pakia back in the ring.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Let him retire and you know, enjoy his life. I
- 41:54Speaker 3: will give him credit for coming back to fight Mario
- 41:56Speaker 3: Barrios because it was challenging for a title. It wasn't
- 41:58Speaker 3: just an exhibition, so that's kind of what I would want,
- 42:02Speaker 3: a real fight. But in terms of them being you know,
- 42:04Speaker 3: same age, weight class, skill level back in the day,
- 42:07Speaker 3: how do you feeling about that legend? Is that fight
- 42:09Speaker 3: particularly like, is that going to be more competitive or exciting,
- 42:12Speaker 3: more realistic than just kind of pitter patterning around with
- 42:15Speaker 3: Tyson and the ring.
- 42:17Speaker 5: I think so, I think I think Many really wants
- 42:21Speaker 5: to beat Floyd, right because of the first fight.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Right does he? Does he do it? We don't know,
- 42:27Speaker 4: we have to see, but I.
- 42:28Speaker 5: Think you know, Many Many I've heard in an interview
- 42:32Speaker 5: with him mentioning that he was the one that pushed
- 42:35Speaker 5: for the fight to actually be a real fight and
- 42:37Speaker 5: not an exhibition, that Floyd was trying to do an exhibition.
- 42:40Speaker 5: So I tip my hat off to him, you know,
- 42:42Speaker 5: for pushing that, right. But I watched Many Pakyao when
- 42:47Speaker 5: he fought Mario Barrios, and he looked great for his age,
- 42:50Speaker 5: but he looked every bit of forty six years old, right,
- 42:53Speaker 5: So I know a lot of people say, oh, man,
- 42:55Speaker 5: he looks beautiful for his age. Remember boxing is a
- 42:57Speaker 5: young man's sport, right, But we got too older. Guy's
- 43:00Speaker 5: going in there right now, right, Floyd. I believe it's
- 43:04Speaker 5: two years older than Manny Pack. Yeah, So I would
- 43:07Speaker 5: have been I would have been fine with them not
- 43:10Speaker 5: fighting each other, to be honest with you, right, I didn't.
- 43:13Speaker 4: I didn't want to see Floyd fight again.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:17Speaker 4: I didn't want to see pack Out fight again.
- 43:19Speaker 5: But like Jamison said, right, this is a business and
- 43:21Speaker 5: we understand that the money and the politics, and usually
- 43:24Speaker 5: when fighters come back, it's because funds might be a
- 43:27Speaker 5: little low. They might be in they might be in something. Right,
- 43:30Speaker 5: So I think this, I think this fight.
- 43:34Speaker 4: I'm not even excited about it, to be honest with you.
- 43:36Speaker 5: You know, I know a lot of people probably like,
- 43:38Speaker 5: oh man, but these are my two favorite grandfathers, you know,
- 43:44Speaker 5: not not by blood, but coming to the barbecue and
- 43:47Speaker 5: we you know, and we we we having a good time,
- 43:50Speaker 5: you know.
- 43:50Speaker 4: So I'm not really excited about it.
- 43:52Speaker 5: I think Floyd if they if they fight, I do
- 43:55Speaker 5: think Floyd will win, but you know, we have to see.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I'm not expecting I'm definitely expecting a
- 44:02Speaker 3: Floyd's been on this. But Jamison, yeah, I mean, you
- 44:05Speaker 3: know that fight was We've talked about how that fight
- 44:08Speaker 3: when it happened was already late when they finally matched up.
- 44:12Speaker 3: So this is like what we said, maybe like ten
- 44:15Speaker 3: years too late later than it should have been or
- 44:17Speaker 3: something like that.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Now this is eleven years ago. To think about that
- 44:21Speaker 2: it was eleven years ago, years ago. Like man, that
- 44:24Speaker 2: was like it was at least a minimum five years
- 44:27Speaker 2: late then. So we talked on twenty twenty six. They
- 44:30Speaker 2: running it back and like legend said, many pushed forward
- 44:34Speaker 2: to be a real fight. But like he said, the
- 44:37Speaker 2: last fight, he looked all of forty six and the
- 44:40Speaker 2: type of fighter man he is, speed, you know, agility
- 44:45Speaker 2: of us, and that all the clients severely well before
- 44:48Speaker 2: forty six. So him trying to ramp that back up
- 44:50Speaker 2: again to fight a guy that's more athletic than him,
- 44:54Speaker 2: has more reach over him, that's still faster than him.
- 44:58Speaker 2: I don't get it. And I saw Floyd. He's drinking
- 45:00Speaker 2: the water, you know every day. He still looks an
- 45:02Speaker 2: amazing shape like he always does. The smarts don't leave.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I still think whenever the fight would have took place,
- 45:09Speaker 2: I think the results will give me be the same results.
- 45:11Speaker 2: But man, we don't, we don't need this twenty twenty six.
- 45:14Speaker 4: We don't.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Like, no one asks for this, No one did, no
- 45:17Speaker 2: one ask this well?
- 45:19Speaker 3: And this this is my problem. The issue that I
- 45:21Speaker 3: have overall with boxing when it does this is that
- 45:24Speaker 3: you know, we know it's gonna do numbers. We know
- 45:26Speaker 3: people are going to tune in, but yeah, nobody asked
- 45:28Speaker 3: for it. Nobody wanted it, And it's just kind of like, well,
- 45:30Speaker 3: I know that name. I feel like it's kind of
- 45:32Speaker 3: like nostalgia is a little too heavy headed these days,
- 45:36Speaker 3: like hey, we're all gonna get old, everybody, we're all
- 45:38Speaker 3: gonna die, We're all gonna like we just need to
- 45:40Speaker 3: accept that. We just had to stop trying to hold
- 45:42Speaker 3: onto youth. Damn it, you know it really it actually
- 45:45Speaker 3: really bothers me in a different way than it bothers
- 45:47Speaker 3: Jameson because people keep doing this fights that nobody asks for,
- 45:50Speaker 3: nobody wants for the money. But I don't is this
- 45:53Speaker 3: gonna get like young fans, new fans of boxing saying like,
- 45:56Speaker 3: oh yeah, I've heard about you know, my dad, my
- 45:58Speaker 3: grandpa talked about Mayweather, you know, and pak yaw uh
- 46:02Speaker 3: and the was there fair fighters so all tending to watch?
- 46:04Speaker 3: I don't think so, will they?
- 46:06Speaker 4: No, I don't I don't think so.
- 46:07Speaker 5: And and and it here's the thing where you if
- 46:09Speaker 5: we get the younger guys that are gonna watch, they
- 46:12Speaker 5: it's almost like you won't appreciate Floyd, you won't appreciate
- 46:15Speaker 5: Pak yall for what they've done. You're gonna look at
- 46:17Speaker 5: them for who they are. Now, That's just what it is, right,
- 46:20Speaker 5: because visuals everything. Right, So if I see Floyd going
- 46:23Speaker 5: there and he looks slow and he doesn't have power,
- 46:26Speaker 5: and pak Yov doesn't have the same foot speed like
- 46:28Speaker 5: he used to, that the some of the people that's
- 46:32Speaker 5: coming up, if they're not really intoe of boxing, you know,
- 46:35Speaker 5: it's almost like a disservice because they're gonna take away
- 46:38Speaker 5: from these great fighters, right, like you know, Jake Pole
- 46:42Speaker 5: fighting Mike Tyson. It does something to the fans that
- 46:46Speaker 5: didn't really get a chance to see Iron Mike Tyson, Right,
- 46:50Speaker 5: it does something when you see Mike Tyson and he
- 46:52Speaker 5: looks heavier, he looks slower, you know he does.
- 46:55Speaker 4: He can't.
- 46:56Speaker 3: He's not countering the way he used to counter.
- 46:59Speaker 5: So I think it does a disservice, you know, to
- 47:02Speaker 5: the not only to the fans, but to the to
- 47:04Speaker 5: the spoiler boxing as well too. I think you know,
- 47:07Speaker 5: you you know, you leave and say you know what
- 47:09Speaker 5: I left on top? Or if you lost, right, hey, cool,
- 47:13Speaker 5: you know I lost. Like not to go too crazy,
- 47:15Speaker 5: but same thing like I said with Canelo, right, Like
- 47:17Speaker 5: I wouldn't have my Canelo retiring after he put bud
- 47:20Speaker 5: because there's no shame in retiring to a great fighter. Hey,
- 47:25Speaker 5: look I lost the stuff or two or whatever the
- 47:27Speaker 5: case may be. I know he's not gonna think that,
- 47:30Speaker 5: but and that's just what I'm saying, is that you
- 47:32Speaker 5: don't always have to retire on top right fifty and
- 47:36Speaker 5: o whatever the case may be, because.
- 47:38Speaker 3: You you you your legacy means something.
- 47:40Speaker 5: And obviously we heard Floyd say that you don't feed
- 47:43Speaker 5: your family or legacy.
- 47:47Speaker 3: And that's true. We can't sit here and argue that,
- 47:49Speaker 3: you know, say that that's that's bullshit or whatever. I
- 47:51Speaker 3: mean true. Yeah, I guess my My thing that I
- 47:56Speaker 3: always think about it is just like a really good
- 47:58Speaker 3: point you mentioned legend is people that didn't get to
- 48:00Speaker 3: see Iron Mike, you know, Javison and I. We weren't
- 48:02Speaker 3: alive during Tyson's prime er weren't old enough to watch
- 48:04Speaker 3: prime prime Tyson. But it's kind of different than saying like, oh,
- 48:08Speaker 3: I don't know, let's say like, oh, we're gonna go
- 48:10Speaker 3: watch who's anting you know, Elton John, you know, doing
- 48:14Speaker 3: a show after you know, his last show. Then seeing
- 48:20Speaker 3: a fighter who you know you can't You just can't
- 48:23Speaker 3: keep doing that. Alton john Ky keeps singing until his
- 48:25Speaker 3: nighty possibly, but you can't keep getting the ring and
- 48:28Speaker 3: fighting when you're in your fifties, by god. So that's
- 48:31Speaker 3: that's kind of an aside, just kind of my thoughts
- 48:34Speaker 3: going while you were talking.
- 48:35Speaker 5: You know what they always say, you can't play you
- 48:37Speaker 5: can't play boxing. Right, this is not a place where
- 48:40Speaker 5: you can play, right. This is there's no Once you
- 48:42Speaker 5: put them eight ounce gloves on is playtime is over.
- 48:46Speaker 5: And you know you want to see your favorite fighters
- 48:48Speaker 5: leave with all their faculties because it only takes is
- 48:51Speaker 5: one good shot.
- 48:53Speaker 3: That's another thing they wouldn't even mention. Yeah, the risk
- 48:55Speaker 3: of they're getting that they're taking on getting in that ring.
- 48:59Speaker 3: And we mention two when Pakia came back against Barrios,
- 49:03Speaker 3: which and I said, by the way, Bider should have
- 49:05Speaker 3: done a better job. He should have beat Pacio, who's
- 49:08Speaker 3: a grand be Like, yes, he's a legend, but he's
- 49:10Speaker 3: still close to fifty. Come on, man, but that's either
- 49:13Speaker 3: here or there. He looked great for his age, blah blah.
- 49:17Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean that prime Manny was twenty years ago, okay,
- 49:24Speaker 3: and the Floyd fight was eleven years ago, and sometimes
- 49:27Speaker 3: you guys to leave that in the past. So I
- 49:30Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, who else do we expect to
- 49:32Speaker 3: come out of retirement? Do you expect Roy Jones to
- 49:34Speaker 3: come back yet again and do something in there? Roy Jones?
- 49:38Speaker 5: He just might why not he if Pacquiao and Floyd
- 49:42Speaker 5: doing I think you know who also, I think is
- 49:44Speaker 5: gonna come back. Andre Wood. I think Andre Wood eventually
- 49:47Speaker 5: comes back out of retirement. I think he gets I
- 49:50Speaker 5: think he gets a fight in.
- 49:51Speaker 2: I think actually actually he's He's hinted too much about
- 49:55Speaker 2: it over the last eighteen months for it not to
- 49:58Speaker 2: be something there. So I agree with you on that.
- 50:01Speaker 5: Yeah, And I just listened to an interview with him
- 50:04Speaker 5: and Bill Haney, and Bill Haney said, hey, look, and
- 50:08Speaker 5: you know Andre Wolf was saying, you know, I you know,
- 50:10Speaker 5: I stay I stay in shape. You know, I'm still
- 50:12Speaker 5: in the gym, I'm still working. We've seen him working
- 50:14Speaker 5: with Bud a few times and you know, getting you
- 50:17Speaker 5: stay acclimated and everything like that, so I wouldn't be surprised.
- 50:21Speaker 2: I know.
- 50:21Speaker 5: At one point in time he called out Anthony Joshua
- 50:24Speaker 5: so hey, we never know.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I think should we put a lot of the
- 50:30Speaker 3: blame on sylvesterlo still coming back for Rocky movies doing
- 50:33Speaker 3: part like six and seven when he's ninety, I mean,
- 50:36Speaker 3: and he's still getting in the ring, like, bro, stop it,
- 50:38Speaker 3: stop it now.
- 50:40Speaker 2: It ain't that it's the corporate sponsors behind it, people
- 50:43Speaker 2: putting up the money. That it's on them. Because here's
- 50:46Speaker 2: the thing. If nobody puts up money, there's a fight.
- 50:48Speaker 2: But if you got the powers that be saying, hey,
- 50:51Speaker 2: we got fifty million for this fight, make it happen. Well,
- 50:54Speaker 2: who's going to find fifty million? I'm not I know,
- 50:57Speaker 2: y'all not so what we're talking.
- 50:58Speaker 3: About, right, I'll get the regular Floyd better for fifty million,
- 51:02Speaker 3: because then I'll die and then my family gets forty
- 51:04Speaker 3: five million.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Whatever it is. You can run around and then on
- 51:08Speaker 2: the first hit you take your knee and that's it.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know, I'll go with the bag and
- 51:15Speaker 3: then my mom and sisters will be taking care of
- 51:17Speaker 3: for the rest of their lives.
- 51:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Oh man, Well, I don't know. I mean, I then.
- 51:24Speaker 5: We see a lot of the fighters the way you
- 51:26Speaker 5: know the fighters when you're looking at like you say
- 51:29Speaker 5: Floyd and you're looking at Pack y'all, and they're saying, like,
- 51:32Speaker 5: many the Scott's just making some money. You know, Floyd
- 51:35Speaker 5: made some money, so it's not new to him, right.
- 51:37Speaker 5: But when you when you got Netflix being involved, you know,
- 51:41Speaker 5: I don't know, Turkey might be involved with this, you know.
- 51:44Speaker 5: So you have different corporations that got their hands into
- 51:47Speaker 5: and you got two of the biggest legends to ever
- 51:50Speaker 5: relace them gloves.
- 51:51Speaker 4: It sells, right, and.
- 51:53Speaker 5: Then you run with the story of when people say
- 51:56Speaker 5: that many Packed Yeo had a messed up shoulder when
- 51:58Speaker 5: he caught Floyd, So a lot of people want to know, Okay,
- 52:01Speaker 5: was it the shoulder or did Floyd really? Like I
- 52:04Speaker 5: said earlier, right, Like, story sales, and that's if you're
- 52:07Speaker 5: doing music, if you sports entertainment, story sells, And I
- 52:10Speaker 5: think a lot of the manipaq Diah fans want to know,
- 52:14Speaker 5: right like was it the shoulder or was Floyd just
- 52:16Speaker 5: a better fighter that night?
- 52:18Speaker 3: Well you could have answered that question, I don't know
- 52:20Speaker 3: a year after that fight. Yeah, I mean I think yeah,
- 52:25Speaker 3: And I think people lean too heavily on that story
- 52:28Speaker 3: as well as what could have been what could have happened.
- 52:30Speaker 3: When that happens, when people ask stuff like oh, Tyson
- 52:33Speaker 3: versus Ali kind of a thing. I never get into
- 52:35Speaker 3: any of those like dream matchups. I don't know legend.
- 52:38Speaker 3: I'm sure you have people ask you those things like
- 52:40Speaker 3: what if prime such and such a prime? Un I
- 52:43Speaker 3: always never speculate because the way I think about it
- 52:47Speaker 3: is there's fights that can be made now with the fighters.
- 52:49Speaker 3: They're active now, and I'd rather spend my energy with that.
- 52:51Speaker 3: How do you feel when people ask you, like what
- 52:53Speaker 3: about primecticing versus Ali? Like, do you ever think about
- 52:57Speaker 3: that or care about that? Not necessary?
- 53:00Speaker 2: Early?
- 53:00Speaker 5: I mean it's cool, you know, because I know that
- 53:02Speaker 5: the entertainment side when people want to talk about that
- 53:05Speaker 5: stuff and or.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Just regular you know, box and talk.
- 53:08Speaker 5: But no, I don't really get heavily evolved in it
- 53:10Speaker 5: because it didn't it didn't exist, right, And then we
- 53:14Speaker 5: can throw the narratives and stuff like that and and
- 53:17Speaker 5: spend it however we want to spend it. But you know,
- 53:19Speaker 5: it's it's it's for me. It's pointless at times, right
- 53:22Speaker 5: because like you said, we got fighters today that are
- 53:25Speaker 5: active that is.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Ready to go.
- 53:27Speaker 5: You know, the one forty division is looking scary right now.
- 53:31Speaker 5: We got the one voice, a lot of those fighters
- 53:33Speaker 5: going up to one foot. So this so much has
- 53:35Speaker 5: happened the heavyweight the business trying to come back and
- 53:38Speaker 5: build it up. So I'd rather spend a lot of
- 53:40Speaker 5: my energy focused on the guys that that are present.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Got well, And you brought up the heavyweight division, and
- 53:48Speaker 3: you know, we talk of a lot about heavyweight division
- 53:51Speaker 3: and how American fighters have just fallen right off the rankings.
- 53:55Speaker 3: You know, I looked up rankings recently and the only
- 53:58Speaker 3: American name I saw was Jared the big baby Anderson,
- 54:00Speaker 3: who you know I was rooting far. But what do
- 54:03Speaker 3: you see the heavyweight division going forward? Legend? I mean,
- 54:08Speaker 3: the a lot of the Eastern European fighters either retiring
- 54:11Speaker 3: or kind of on the way out. Ito's sick, He's
- 54:13Speaker 3: gonna fight again, but we don't really see him, you know,
- 54:15Speaker 3: having a long career. What do we have to look
- 54:17Speaker 3: forward to for the heavyweight division as boxing fans overall?
- 54:21Speaker 4: Man, I don't know.
- 54:22Speaker 5: And to be honest with you, I feel like the
- 54:25Speaker 5: heavyweight knees of Deontay Wilder, right nees A And I
- 54:30Speaker 5: get you know, a lot of people may not say,
- 54:32Speaker 5: you know, he's you know, the most skillful fighters. But
- 54:35Speaker 5: when we think about the heavyweight fighters back in the days,
- 54:38Speaker 5: it wasn't really about skills like it was about knockouts, right.
- 54:42Speaker 5: We knew these guys was going in and knocked your
- 54:44Speaker 5: shoulders off, right, So you know what happened is I
- 54:47Speaker 5: think the game has evolved so much as far as
- 54:50Speaker 5: skill wise that we almost started to put that on
- 54:53Speaker 5: the heavyweight guys now, right, So that essence kind of,
- 54:57Speaker 5: you know, it kind of took a away from the heavyweight.
- 55:00Speaker 5: So now that you got a guy like Osik who's
- 55:03Speaker 5: very crafty, more skillful, right, he he relies on his craftiness.
- 55:07Speaker 5: Where you had a Deontay Wilder who's coming in there
- 55:10Speaker 5: trying to knock your head off. You got a Tyson
- 55:12Speaker 5: fury Ver, we's skillful. So I think the heavyweight division,
- 55:16Speaker 5: I think people just missing that ferociousness, right, They're missing
- 55:21Speaker 5: they're like, lead the pretty stuff to the to the
- 55:24Speaker 5: to the lightweight guys, right, Like all that moving arounds,
- 55:26Speaker 5: show the role, lead that to the lead them, lead
- 55:29Speaker 5: that to them, right, we want to see knockouts, right,
- 55:31Speaker 5: And so I think that's kind of where it's at.
- 55:34Speaker 5: You know, obviously, as they say, it's more than one
- 55:37Speaker 5: way to skin a cat, right So it's kind of
- 55:39Speaker 5: like it's like a it's like a double edged sword
- 55:42Speaker 5: when it comes to the heavyweight division right now. But
- 55:45Speaker 5: I'm not excited at you know, with the heavyweight division
- 55:48Speaker 5: at this at this moment, I feel like we just
- 55:50Speaker 5: need to get some guys in there that's coming in
- 55:53Speaker 5: that's gonna be brutes, that's gonna they coming in with
- 55:55Speaker 5: that ferocious not saying, you know, take unnecessary punishment, but
- 55:59Speaker 5: it needs to get better to that ferociousness.
- 56:01Speaker 4: In my opinion.
- 56:05Speaker 2: That's why while it was such a interesting character because
- 56:08Speaker 2: he was a knockout guy, wasn't a great boxer. He
- 56:11Speaker 2: was a knockout guy. That's why people wanted to.
- 56:13Speaker 3: See him fight.
- 56:13Speaker 2: We wasn't there to see his sweet science. Wasn't here
- 56:18Speaker 2: for that. We were there to either get dropped or
- 56:21Speaker 2: drop somebody.
- 56:21Speaker 4: That's it.
- 56:22Speaker 2: And that's why he made a lot of money in
- 56:24Speaker 2: a relatively short amount of time. And like Legend said,
- 56:27Speaker 2: that's the type of vision, like we're not here for
- 56:30Speaker 2: the technical guy when it comes to the anyway, We're
- 56:33Speaker 2: here to see somebody get dropped and when you see
- 56:36Speaker 2: big guys, you know, go twelve rounds. No one is
- 56:39Speaker 2: in threat to get dropped. That's not what the casual
- 56:42Speaker 2: fans here for will mess with a crew like boxing,
- 56:44Speaker 2: so we'll we'll be cool with it. But the heavyweight
- 56:46Speaker 2: is for for the casual fan cattle fantasyes. Two guys
- 56:50Speaker 2: over two hundred and thirty pounds slugging it out. They're
- 56:52Speaker 2: expecting somebody to get dropped. When that doesn't happen for ten, twelve,
- 56:56Speaker 2: twenty years, you lose interest to little guys or miss
- 57:00Speaker 2: it is what it is. But the big guys there
- 57:03Speaker 2: expendi somebody to get dropped, and really in great fashion,
- 57:07Speaker 2: like in Hall of Fame, like oh did you see
- 57:10Speaker 2: that the other night? That's missing the headweight division for
- 57:13Speaker 2: a long time outside of Wilder and a couple you know. Well,
- 57:17Speaker 2: obviously Joshua got you know, dropped by old boy. You
- 57:20Speaker 2: know that's way out of shave by uh Ruiz. And
- 57:23Speaker 2: you know, there's been things that happened. I ain't been.
- 57:25Speaker 2: It used to be like every month or every other month,
- 57:27Speaker 2: now everyly year. That's the issue.
- 57:31Speaker 4: That's true.
- 57:32Speaker 3: That's a really great point. I mean, I suffer as
- 57:34Speaker 3: much as anybody, uh as anybody from recency bias, and
- 57:37Speaker 3: you know who's six like the guy right now and
- 57:41Speaker 3: uh well the biggest star right now in the heavyweight division.
- 57:43Speaker 3: And you think like, oh, well, you know he's a
- 57:45Speaker 3: great heavyweight, he's a great fighter, he moves well, he's technical,
- 57:47Speaker 3: blah blah blah. He was able to take down Fury,
- 57:49Speaker 3: who's a brute because of those skills, footwork, et cetera.
- 57:52Speaker 3: But I think about that and I'm like, well, that's
- 57:54Speaker 3: not typically what a heavyweight is. You know, you guys
- 57:56Speaker 3: are totally right, and well, yes, I've always said I
- 58:00Speaker 3: really like Deontay Wilder. I think it's good that he
- 58:02Speaker 3: is in the sport and he's been a part of
- 58:04Speaker 3: the heavyweight division, but I think we need a guy
- 58:06Speaker 3: who's just better at the boxing side than Wilder, like
- 58:10Speaker 3: has the power, has the ferociousness. And you know, I
- 58:13Speaker 3: tried to sound like a hater, because of course, you know,
- 58:14Speaker 3: I respect these guys, but but I mean, yeah, that's
- 58:19Speaker 3: he's always will Wilder's always had that ceiling, Like he's
- 58:22Speaker 3: never been able to break through that ceiling as far
- 58:24Speaker 3: as I'm concerned.
- 58:25Speaker 5: I when I when I first was watching Deontay Wilder.
- 58:29Speaker 5: I said, he's going to run into somebody that's more skilled,
- 58:32Speaker 5: more crafty, and they're going to show that there's levels.
- 58:36Speaker 5: And we've seen that, right, although I know he dropped
- 58:39Speaker 5: Tyson Fury and stuff like that, right, and you know,
- 58:42Speaker 5: in his opinion, he felt like he wanted you know,
- 58:44Speaker 5: he was robbed or what have you, but there was
- 58:46Speaker 5: still a skill level gap.
- 58:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 58:49Speaker 5: And then when he fought uh, Big Zing, Right, he
- 58:55Speaker 5: fought Big Zing, And you've seen this skill level. So
- 58:58Speaker 5: when while there's start going up against guys that are
- 59:01Speaker 5: a little bit more skillful than him, and he starts
- 59:04Speaker 5: to look a little bit more amateurish in my opinion, right,
- 59:08Speaker 5: because we know that he got it. He got a
- 59:09Speaker 5: brick hand, gotta right brick ham and you know he
- 59:12Speaker 5: got a nice decent left hook. But when you got
- 59:15Speaker 5: a god that's just just a power puncture but doesn't
- 59:18Speaker 5: really have other things in the arsenal, when you go
- 59:21Speaker 5: against a god that is that's here, you're gonna look average, right.
- 59:26Speaker 5: And I think you know when when he when he
- 59:28Speaker 5: went against those guys, people just like, man, this guy,
- 59:31Speaker 5: you know he's not well, but it's like, no, he's
- 59:34Speaker 5: everything that we said he was. He was a knockout artist.
- 59:37Speaker 5: Nobody claimed that he was this. He was the heavyweight
- 59:40Speaker 5: version of Floyd. Money made with it.
- 59:43Speaker 3: Sure, and you said that. You know, when you have
- 59:46Speaker 3: you got somebody's a strong puncher and goes against somebody
- 59:48Speaker 3: who has higher skills, you're going to look amateur. That's
- 59:50Speaker 3: what I was saying about, right, Garcia, God damn, that's
- 59:52Speaker 3: literally the bypoint. But well, you know, it depends, right,
- 59:58Speaker 3: It depends.
- 59:59Speaker 5: It depends on how we look at it, right, because
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: like say, for Ryan, right, he does he may not
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: be the most fundamentally sound as far as as a
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: pure boxer, but Ryan has a lot of things that
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: works for him that Deontay Wilder may not have things
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: that work for him.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: So say, for example, let's all right, let's say if
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: we have your court and Ryan, we know that your
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: cause more of the purest boxer, right, But what works
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: for Ryan is his speed. You know, he has great
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: timing as well, right, and he has power, so uh,
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: and I would think that he he's a even though
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: they're in two different weight classes, I would think that
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: he's a little bit more skillful than a Deontay Wilder.
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: Right, so he has more to bring to the table.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: But fighting guys that have a whole bunch of power
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: and you are a pure, purest boxer, that guy is
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: still a dangerous guy because they could turn your lights
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: out at any point in time, right. And then a
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: lot of guys I've seen who were pure boxer that
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: lost to the guy that was aggressive, that had knockout power,
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: that and had a lot of heart because sometimes it's Hey,
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: looks my will is going to win this fight for me.
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: And although you're a pure boxer, I don't think you're
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: willing to go to the level that I'm willing to
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: go to in deep waters and so and I think Ryan,
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: and they hear me out when I say this, I think,
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: if Ryan not to go all the way back to them,
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: but I feel like if Ryan was to go to
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: fight your core, I think at some point in time
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: in that fight, Ryan may say to him, so I
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: got to get crazy a little bit because I'm not
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: going to outbox this guy. So if I can make
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: and now, now when he thought for Williams, the paida
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: Williams of Payda is a volume puncher, right, so when
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: he drops you is because of punches and bunches you have,
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: you could prepare for that a little bit more versus
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: a guy that has speed and good timing in that
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: ncounter and he's dangerous at any point in time. Right,
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: So when if you're cool, I think she cool wins.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: But those type of a Ryan style is Ryan? Would
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: that for Barrios. It's a dangerous fight for anybody, regardless
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: of skill level.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I agree, one hundred percent. I mean the
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: worst part is somebody with power and can figure out
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: how to be surgical with those punches. That's it. That's
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: that's going to be lights out for pretty much anybody
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: because anyone can get caught. Yeah yeah, well yeah, let's
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: actually switch tracks a little bit because we have a
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: fight happening. I'm in Tucson. We have a fight happening
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: in Phoenix this weekend if you're listening to this episode
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: when it comes out, and Manuel Navarette RaRo versus as
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: a lot of the Sugar Nunez coming this weekend to
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: twenty eight in Phoenix. So, uh legend. You know the
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: thing that we do in our show, we're called the
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Mixed Company Podcast because I'm Mexican American. Jameson is black.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of divide in between uh
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: fandom between black and Hispanic fighters and all different kinds
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: of racial issues, a lot of racism and fantom which
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: we call out and we say we're not about that ship.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: So we're trying to bridge the divide. But out of curiosity,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: is you, as another black boxing fan, uh, what's your
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: insight into you know, Mexican boxing? Do you follow with
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: do you have any favorite Mexican fighters? Do you have
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: Mexican fans that call you? Raise the ship on your comments?
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: You know, just start of curiosity what you're what your
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: relationship is to to Mexican boxing.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: I love Mexican boxing, man, you know I love the style. Right,
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: I've insparred against a lot of Mexicans and I've always said,
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: man that the Mexican fighters is the hardest guys to
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: get out the ring.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: You know, they just keep coming, they don't care. You
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: know that this style.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: Actually, this this style actually helped me in my training
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: camps as well too.
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: I had a guy that I used to spa with.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: His name was Eric Gomez, right, and Eric Gomez was uh,
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: he was he was a.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Tough It was a tough a tough fighter.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: Right, And the reason why I love fighting him is
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: because of the mindset that he had, and he used
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: to make me fight and he used to always say,
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: he used to say, listen, when you get in that rain, right,
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: you got the skills, but sometimes it's gonna be your will.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: That also helps you pay the bills as well too, Right,
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: So I love the Mexican style. I'm a fan of
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: Robert Garcia. I love his coaching style. Yeah, Raymond Morettia,
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: I like him, right, David Benavetez, I know a lot
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: of people, you know, you know, Canelo Alvarez, Uh, Julio Chavez, right, Chavez.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: You know, I'm I'm real big on the Mexican culture
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: and in the boxing community, and you know, my my
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: community of Mexican you know, just fans. They they showed
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: me a lot of love. So I love the Mexican
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: community in boxing because they died hard boxing fans and
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: they're gonna they they're gonna stick by han try right,
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: Like even if you lose, but you go in there
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: and you give it your all, you put blood, swimming tears.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: They're not turning their backs on you.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Well, And a question I forgot to ask. You mentioned
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: that you fought a lot of Mexican fighters in Mexico.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: What weight class were you in? Because Mexicans usually little guys. Uh,
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: except that, Oh, I'm sorry, good, no, no, yes, I
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: was saying most of the Mexicans are little, little fighters.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: What were yours of weight class?
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: One sixty eight?
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: One sixty eight okay, okay. And when you fought in Mexico,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: did you fight actual Mexican fighters or people from other
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: places of the world.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: Now, yeah, it was, it was. It was a mixture.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: So there was there's other people that come, like I
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: fought against some you know, some black Americans as well too.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: I fought against different guys because a lot of them,
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: a lot of fighters tend to come to Mexico.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: Like Devin Haney, he came to Mexico.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: He fought Oshaki Foster came out to Mexico and he
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: fought a couple of fights in them. So you'll see
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: a different variety of different of different guys as well too.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: So yeah, you know one sixty eight, I've been I've
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: been on you know, it's crazy and a lot of people
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: don't notice, but I actually spawned Danny Jacobs around the
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: time he was getting ready to fight Carnelo, you know,
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: and so that that was pretty cool. That was pretty
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: cool helping him get ready for a little bit for
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: that fight as well.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Awesome, Well, I want to get ready for the fight.
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: But we we shared the ring with each other.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Oh he you know iron sharpers iron well in preparation
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: for for the fight. Actually, our show got invited to
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: a media day for Navada versus Nunyaz and I got
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: to interview well both those guys and a bunch of
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: guys fighting on the cart, which is awesome. We have
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: a special video up on YouTube of my interviews there.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: We also there's a guy fighting named Jordan Martinez. He's
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: out of Phoenix, and he had something really interesting to
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: say when I asked him about, you know what, what
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: he wants going forward for his his career. Check this out.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: One name that you want that you want that call?
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: What did he say? The bag?
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: Yeah, because I mean he's the one that's I guess
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: you could say Commnster, the one that's unsouchable kind of
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: like in his era. You know, he's un such a
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: beautiful So I want to be the first one to show.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: That he ain't really like that.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: He ain't really like that.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: I love the energy, you know, I love the confidence.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: I can't I can't knock it.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I love the confidence.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: Right straight up calling him out plus on our show.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: So that's that's a mixed company podcasting. Yeah, shout out
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: to Jordan Martinez. So yeah, what's your take e away?
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: And you know, is he is he unbeatable? Is he
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: you know, the next you know, legend and boxing or
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: is there a guy that can actually take him on?
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: And is it going to be, you know, a guy
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: from from Phoenix, because you know, the two times he
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: has been put down, it's been by Mexican guys.
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: Just why I I think I think, I think he's
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: I think he's beautible.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: I think it's just going to take the right dance
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: partner to get in there with him. Right. But he's
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: a he's a hell of a fighter. You know, I
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: can't take nothing away from him.
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: The thing that I love about any ways that you know,
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: I don't like the fact that you know, he consistently
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: might get dropped the waever the.
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Case may be. But when he does get dropped, he
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: doesn't tuck his tail. Right.
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: He's coming, He's coming back to fight you, and he's
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: coming back to get one upon you. So I love
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: that mindset, like they like him. Getting dropped doesn't rattle him,
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: It doesn't change, you know, or like I said, go,
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: you know, hiding and and and not want to fight
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: actually brings more out of him. So I think, you know,
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: any ways, is definitely a problem for anyone, and it's
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: gonna take somebody specially to beat him as well too.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Absolutely, do you.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: All have any favorite like callouts in history? When you
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: know boxes after the winter and call out a big
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: name that let's just say it, but I'd be disrespectful
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: somebody who's you would think is way about their their
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: punching class.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Bud jams.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: There was ant call out per se. But when Tito
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: and be Hop were promoting the fight in Puerto Rico
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: about twenty six years ago, and be Hoped through the
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Puerto Rican flag down and either stumped on it or
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: did something he spent, he did something disrespectful. And at
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: the time be Hop was like a big underdog. It
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: wasn't like that fight kind of propelled be Hoped to
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: have the run he had with all the tile defences
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: and all that. But before then was a huge that
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: was Tito after they finals. So Tito was like the
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: man man at that point. So that was kind of
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: just thinking at that point that I could think of that.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: But be Hopp was still a name, but he wasn't
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: the name we grew to love and over the next
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: fifteen years it wasn't that. But yeah, that was something
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: that I can think.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: Good, that's a while doing. He got a legend.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: I might have to go with the most recent one,
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: right and go with TiO, Femo Lopez and TWNS Crawford.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: I think you know when TiO called down Crawl, what
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: I was like.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: I said, what you want to fight?
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: You want to fight?
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: Who?
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: Man?
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Don't do it to yourself too, Don't do it. Don't
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: do it. Don't know it.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: This man went up three weight classes and beat Canelo.
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: You know Canelo who's been there at one sixty eight
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: for the last ten years or so. What are you
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: talking about? What you gonna show Bull that he ain't
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: never seen before?
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Chance?
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: You know, So when when I heard Toyo say that,
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: I was like, you gotta be trolling or you want
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: some special type of medication right now?
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Chance?
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: That was pretty hilarious.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: He couldn't even do nothing with Crawford's little home. He
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: ain't doing nothing with Bud.
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: So yeah, no, man, Yeah, yeah, I just.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: No, that's that's a photo for sure. Especially and you
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: know what, what's funny, it's it's like he already said
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: he's retired. It's kind of like be saying like I
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: don't know. It's like, oh, man, I could totally hook
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: up his narm Monroe if I met her, Like come on,
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: like that's that's a pretty pretty easy kind of safe
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: face of like, yeah, I fight, but yeah, but you're
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: not gonna get that fighting even if you did you
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: get Cloud in the ring, I'm sorry.
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: You're gonna you're won't get him. You throw your did
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: something in you. Man, you don't mess around with Bud
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: if you want.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: Man, he's to think about court that he definitely appeared
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: to show more power as he went up a little
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: bit on weight class and and you know, trained better,
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: but like he's never really shown a lot of that
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: power but always has like but has always had speed,
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: power and defense. So yeah, I mean I guess maybe, yeah,
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: maybe he just got his ass kick so much as
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: his kind of brain right on around the bed and
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: he was like, you know what happened is like, who
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: do you want to fight? He was looking around like
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: uh uh that guy. Yeah, but you.
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: Know has always been crazy, right, so you know, you
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: never know what to expect from Teo. And you know
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: atime t O grabbed the microphone or without the microphone,
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: you can expect him to beat to your female Lopez,
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: which is say something thing that might be nonsensical, right,
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: and then you might have to do a double take
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: a Teal.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: But I think that's part of the problem is that
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: you want to you don't want to give him the
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: mic too much because he gets a little dison sometimes.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: But that's why I said before the Shit Court and
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: Tale fight that it's probably better if we have Shakur
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: as the new like the new face ambassador for the
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: sport to get new people in and maybe tell Tale
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: shut ups, don't shut up. Stay with that.
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: Let me ask you, do you do you think that
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: your cool has the the marketing ability, the charisma, the
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Do you think that he has that.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: To carry this sport? Jameson, you take this one.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: No, I don't. I think his marketability is gonna be
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: winning and winning often. I think him being a two
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: and a half fight per year on the average of
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: three years. Type of guy where he's fighting at least
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: twice and then depending on where when the coundar fits
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: three fights in the calendar year. I think that's his marketing,
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: where he's just really balling out. He's also being seen
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: and heard other fight other platforms. I think that's his marketing.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: He's not the guy's gonna doing crazy outside. He's not
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: a Broner type. It's not a Garcia type where they're
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: do something crazy to gain casual people that way. But
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I think his boxing is his marketing. I just don't
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: know how far that goes. That's my big start with
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: him long term. That's why I suggested him fighting Ryan,
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: because he beats Ryan. He dominates Ryan. You put a
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: whole lot of more casual fans onto ar Court and
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: that takes off a life of its own. So that's
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: why it's just that earlier, because once you do something
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: like that, it helps with your question just asks.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: I think he's definitely doing the right thing and getting
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: his space out there. Like I said, I mean, he's
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: a good one guy. He's adorable, he's got the dimple,
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: you know, he's he's he's funny, he's charming on the mic,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: He's he's quick on his feet, he knows his boxing history.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: You can tell he loves the sport and it loves
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: repping it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: I was actually I'm he And the thing too is
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: he pops up and I'm surprised to see him, Like
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: I had no idea he'd be there over the weekend.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: Plus I don't know what gus. Like four or five
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: months ago, there was an overtime boxing event in Houston
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: where I'm from that I was just put on randomly
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: on Saturday, and the commentators are like, oh, we got
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: a guest commentator here. I was like, what rando? You
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: know mechanic that that fought like ten fights from Houston?
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Did you get? And it was, of course Stephenson, like
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: he showed up to do just start just you know,
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: for ot X and you know, chatting about this. I
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: think it was just after Canell Crawford because they were
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: talking about that. So I think he's got the skills
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: like on the mic, on camera, and he does have
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: enough charisma to get his name out there. Plus you
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: know the whole thing about him being named after sor
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: two bucks score, his name being schort Stephenson. That's kind
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: of a quasy, easy to remember kind of a name. Yeah,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: no offense to uh see, I was gonna say Yannie Beck.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm just
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: saying that, like, you know, yeah, it's marketable name. You know,
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: kid from these coast. You know. I definitely think that
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: he's going to grab people's attention. And yeah, people see
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: him fight and then they see him again, They're like,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I know that kid. There's a kid dimple blah blah blah,
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: and he's going to sort of just continue, you know,
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: gathering a fan base. So yeah, I think I'm a
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: little bit more confident in his ability with the charisma
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: and the mic et cetera, apart from just the fighting
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: of course. But good question, man, this has been a
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: really great conversation. It actually went longer than I expected.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: So you don't want to keep you keep you much longer, legend,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: because I know you got your own social media to
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: get to. But let's wrap it up and tell people
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: where we can find you social media, plug your YouTube, everything.
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Please let us know we can hear mare of your insights.
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes, Well, first of all, appreciate you having
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: me on once again.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: I appreciate the time and I had.
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: I had a blast here for everybody that can find
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: me on TikTok at Boxing Legends Lounge, Instagram as Boxing Legends.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: I'm not really on Instagram the way I should be,
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: but it will. I will pick it up over there
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: and the YouTube at Boxing Legends Lounge as well too
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: that everybody can follow me there. So yeah, you know,
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: just excited once again. I'm excited to be a part
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: of this and I appreciate you having me. Have some
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: great insights, some great takes, and you know, I look
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: forward to you know, meeting you guys, you know, one
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: more time.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: Absolutely, Oh you've been great on the show. You absolutely
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: fit so well with our vibe and everything. You'll absolutely
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: be back. So one more plugged for Legend. You will
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: find him on this show again very soon.
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: Appreciate You'll appreciate y'all having me man.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Excellent Jamison.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: People find you on social media at the jameson on Twitter. Uh,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: you know, be on there doing the fights. Man, It's
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: gonna be interesting going forward. We got a lot of
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: fights coming up and a lot of fights look forward to.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: So I think it's the first time besides the random
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: you know, money graph fighters. This is the first time
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: and probably probably since like the mid two thousands where
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: there's just a lot of different types of fighters fighting
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: and it's not like, oh, this is the I'm a
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: side to the B side. Now, it's just fight Star
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: is happening just to happen, because that's how it's supposed
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: to be. Guys that are making fights happen, Guys that
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: are fighting to move up and to fight someone bigger
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: and better. We finally got to that, not cherry picking fights,
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: not being oh well I'm going with this company, I
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: don't do this. No, no, no. We've gotten away from that now.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: So it's looking good for the future of the All
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: the younger guys, they want to fight, guys, they want
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: to fight, They want to challenge themselves to fight out
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: their guys. So it's good to see that going forward.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Absolutely know it's a very exciting time for boxing, and
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: a very exciting boxing match will be happening this Saturday,
