- 0:04Speaker 1: This episode features first hand accounts from real people detailing
- 0:08Speaker 1: their disturbing experiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah. My name is Robert. I live in Connecticut. I
- 0:38Speaker 2: work in compliance and Internet recruiting, but I'm also an
- 0:43Speaker 2: actor and a part time film critic writer. Huge into theater,
- 0:48Speaker 2: huge into horror movies. Yeah. Incidentally, the house that I
- 0:52Speaker 2: grew up in has been with the family for generations
- 0:55Speaker 2: and had several families live in it beforehand, and I
- 1:01Speaker 2: do believe that the house that I grew up in
- 1:03Speaker 2: is haunted. There are things that happen here that I
- 1:06Speaker 2: can't explain, and that even the skeptics of the family
- 1:09Speaker 2: have experienced things throughout the years and the decades that
- 1:13Speaker 2: they also can't explain. So that's kind of the context
- 1:16Speaker 2: that I grew up in. And I'm not someone who
- 1:19Speaker 2: is very I'm not easily scared, just because I kind
- 1:23Speaker 2: of grew up with horror movies and loving that stuff
- 1:25Speaker 2: and really fascinated by it. But this story in particular
- 1:28Speaker 2: was something that, again in addition to what I've experienced
- 1:33Speaker 2: growing up, was something that really shook me and that
- 1:38Speaker 2: I can still remember every detail of it even to
- 1:40Speaker 2: this day. So This was in two thousand and four,
- 1:46Speaker 2: the fall of two thousand and four, when I went
- 1:48Speaker 2: to a liberal arts college in Dix Hills, which is
- 1:52Speaker 2: in Suffolk County, New York, so Long Island, and incidentally,
- 1:56Speaker 2: it's about twenty five minutes away from Amityville, where the
- 2:00Speaker 2: defail murders of the Mdville horror had taken place. And
- 2:05Speaker 2: within the first month or two of the freshman year,
- 2:07Speaker 2: I found myself a few people in our theater department
- 2:10Speaker 2: who had the same sensibility that I did, just enjoyed,
- 2:13Speaker 2: you know, a lot of fun and ghost stories harmed
- 2:16Speaker 2: that whole thing in addition to theater. So it was
- 2:20Speaker 2: one of those things where you meet these people and
- 2:22Speaker 2: you say, all right, I'm going to know these people
- 2:23Speaker 2: for the rest of my life, and you instantly hit
- 2:26Speaker 2: it off, and that's just it. And it was. This
- 2:29Speaker 2: particular group was six guys myself included, and one girl.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You know, freshman year was tough, as it is for everyone,
- 2:36Speaker 2: but we were all there for each other, to make
- 2:38Speaker 2: each other laugh, have nights on the weekend to hang
- 2:41Speaker 2: out and get to know each other. And that made
- 2:44Speaker 2: the first few months of college, which can be scary,
- 2:47Speaker 2: very enjoyable. At the beginning of our second year, we
- 2:51Speaker 2: decided that in October, as the Halloween season was ramping up,
- 2:55Speaker 2: we would find a creepy wooded spot in you know,
- 2:58Speaker 2: either in that town or sometime some town nearby and
- 3:01Speaker 2: just kind of scare the crap out of each other.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We were amateur ghost hunters, I supposed, so that's kind
- 3:07Speaker 2: of what we're going into it as. And so we
- 3:11Speaker 2: did some research and found that there was something called
- 3:15Speaker 2: Sweet Hollow Road that was not too far from the college. Now,
- 3:20Speaker 2: New England and New York are have several famous haunted roads.
- 3:25Speaker 2: For instance, there's Mount Misery and Huntington, there's Sweet Hollow
- 3:29Speaker 2: Road and Long Island Clinton Road, which is in New Jersey,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and then in Massachusetts and Connecticut. There are also haunted
- 3:36Speaker 2: cemeteries and whatnot. In Sweet Hollow Road. If you look
- 3:40Speaker 2: it up on Google, has pages of stuff and different
- 3:43Speaker 2: legends that people I've experienced. There's haunted Bridge, there's a
- 3:48Speaker 2: ghost black dog that might be able to be seen.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So we figured that this was perfect for us, and
- 3:54Speaker 2: so our idea was to split each other up into
- 3:58Speaker 2: two different cars and head out to the night and
- 4:00Speaker 2: just kind of see where things took us. So here's
- 4:04Speaker 2: how it works. You turn off of a busy main
- 4:05Speaker 2: road we just flooded with strip malls and restaurants and
- 4:10Speaker 2: the like, and you're almost immediately greeted by total darkness.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And this area was very heavily wooded, and it was
- 4:18Speaker 2: essentially a large web of lining roads that were surrounded
- 4:21Speaker 2: by trees, very few street lights, not very many houses.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And I believe that without a GPS or a good
- 4:29Speaker 2: sense of direction, you could get lost in there. And
- 4:32Speaker 2: so we all made sure that we had fully charged
- 4:35Speaker 2: phones and flashlights just in case. But the main goal
- 4:37Speaker 2: was to just keep driving until we decided that it
- 4:40Speaker 2: was time to get out and do some amateur ghost hunting.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And so per the directions, we made a left off
- 4:47Speaker 2: of the main road and we drove for about twenty
- 4:50Speaker 2: to thirty minutes in this you know, dark network of
- 4:54Speaker 2: roads and side roads and dead ends and whatnot. And
- 4:57Speaker 2: we were just picking directions at ram and just trying
- 5:00Speaker 2: to get intentionally lost. And so our cars made a
- 5:04Speaker 2: turn and to our surprise, there was a huge log
- 5:07Speaker 2: in front of us, and so we had reached a
- 5:10Speaker 2: dead end of some kind that had nothing but trees,
- 5:13Speaker 2: beyond it, and so we all got out to see
- 5:16Speaker 2: exactly what this was. We stepped over this massive log
- 5:19Speaker 2: and noticed two narrow, narrow trails leading in different directions.
- 5:25Speaker 2: We figured that, well, there's trails that were here for us.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Let's grab our flashlights and see what we find. And
- 5:32Speaker 2: so we flipped a coin and we set off on
- 5:33Speaker 2: the trail to the right. The trail started relatively wide,
- 5:38Speaker 2: but it got so narrow that we had to walk
- 5:41Speaker 2: single file to avoid getting whacked by leaves and branches,
- 5:44Speaker 2: and I just happened to end up in the back. Now,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I'm usually again pretty rational and level headed, but for
- 5:52Speaker 2: the first time in a long time, the further that
- 5:55Speaker 2: we went in, the more I was just kind of
- 5:58Speaker 2: feeling really uneasy. I was thinking that I heard things.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You know, it could have just been us, but I
- 6:03Speaker 2: was getting the sense that someone was watching us. It
- 6:08Speaker 2: just made me very uncomfortable. And then I remember that, like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: this is a completely new area for me. I don't
- 6:13Speaker 2: know this area. It's a huge force, Like who knows
- 6:17Speaker 2: what we would find in there. And I also realized
- 6:21Speaker 2: that we were seven able able body college students, and
- 6:25Speaker 2: whatever we came across, you know, we would most likely
- 6:28Speaker 2: be able to handle it. So we walked on this
- 6:31Speaker 2: trail for about twenty minutes, and just when I thought
- 6:34Speaker 2: it wasn't going to end, we came to a massive
- 6:36Speaker 2: clearing and it was huge. It was like a large
- 6:40Speaker 2: open field of un kempt grass, and it was comparable
- 6:45Speaker 2: in scope to a golf golf course, but it wasn't
- 6:50Speaker 2: as well manicured or taken care of. And there were
- 6:54Speaker 2: trees that trees that surrounded the entire field, which was
- 6:58Speaker 2: so large that we couldn't see the end of it
- 6:59Speaker 2: from where we were standing. I was thrilled to get
- 7:03Speaker 2: out of that trail, but I don't think any of
- 7:05Speaker 2: us were expecting to actually find an area that large.
- 7:09Speaker 2: One of us looked to the right and said, hey,
- 7:11Speaker 2: check that out, and so we all turned and there
- 7:13Speaker 2: was an old, dilapidated house several hundred yards away. And
- 7:17Speaker 2: the house was completely dark, no cars or signs or
- 7:23Speaker 2: any indication that anyone had lived there or I had
- 7:25Speaker 2: been there in a long time. So we walked over
- 7:30Speaker 2: and we shined our flashlights in it, and sure enough,
- 7:32Speaker 2: the windows and the doors were all boarded up. I
- 7:35Speaker 2: managed to look through two of the boards and saw
- 7:38Speaker 2: that there was just an old white couch that was
- 7:40Speaker 2: covered in plastic. But other than that, I don't really
- 7:44Speaker 2: remember being able to see much of anything. And so
- 7:48Speaker 2: whoever was there or used to live there, there was
- 7:52Speaker 2: again no indication that they had been there for some time.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And at this point we were all feelings of efficiently
- 8:00Speaker 2: creeped out and we kind of got what we were
- 8:03Speaker 2: looking for. So we decided that we should probably walk
- 8:06Speaker 2: back towards c trel we came in and just get
- 8:10Speaker 2: back in the car, and so he would also confide.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So we were walking back towards that, and then before
- 8:16Speaker 2: we could do that, my friend Matt stopped what he
- 8:18Speaker 2: was doing and his expression dropped and he pointed, and
- 8:21Speaker 2: so we all turned, and on the very far side
- 8:23Speaker 2: of the field, which was directly across from that entrance
- 8:26Speaker 2: we had come in, we could see someone tall, lanky
- 8:29Speaker 2: and pale, kind of dancing among the trees, and by
- 8:34Speaker 2: that I mean grabbing a tree, swinging around it, grabbing
- 8:37Speaker 2: another tree, swinging around that, and it was some sort
- 8:39Speaker 2: of demented dance. And the moon was so bright and
- 8:43Speaker 2: the woods so dark that it actually took me and
- 8:47Speaker 2: I guess everyone else's second to process what we were
- 8:51Speaker 2: looking at. Jeff, who was he was like, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: six or four, he's built like a wrestler, huge skeptic,
- 8:59Speaker 2: and wise asked of the group. He just wasn't seeing it.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So I pulled him in. I said, you know, Jeff,
- 9:05Speaker 2: and I pointed to it, and I said, don't you
- 9:06Speaker 2: see that? And so we're all looking at him, like,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you know, why can't you see this? And he squinted,
- 9:11Speaker 2: and then he gasped and started back, grabbing my arm
- 9:16Speaker 2: and said, what the fuck is that? And as we
- 9:19Speaker 2: looked back to look at this thing, whatever whoever that was,
- 9:24Speaker 2: or whatever it was, stop dancing, stop moving, looked in
- 9:27Speaker 2: our direction and started charging straight at us, and without
- 9:34Speaker 2: even thinking, we freaked out and ran back towards the trail.
- 9:37Speaker 2: And yet again Jeff was the only one who didn't
- 9:39Speaker 2: see it, and so he shouted after us, and we
- 9:42Speaker 2: can hear him going, guys, what is that? Where are
- 9:44Speaker 2: you going? And so after about fifteen seconds of running
- 9:47Speaker 2: like crazy, we heard him scream holy shit, and I
- 9:52Speaker 2: looked back and saw his flashlight following the rest of
- 9:54Speaker 2: us into the trail. And so the walk into the
- 9:58Speaker 2: woods took about twenty minutes. But we made it back
- 10:01Speaker 2: to our cars and hopped it in, hopped in them
- 10:03Speaker 2: and started peeling away in about closer to five minutes.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So we just wanted to get out of there. Once
- 10:10Speaker 2: we were a safe distance away, we pulled over, We
- 10:12Speaker 2: got out, checked in with each other about what just happened,
- 10:15Speaker 2: and my heart was pounding, and I know that everyone
- 10:19Speaker 2: else is feeling the same way. And this is something
- 10:23Speaker 2: else that I didn't mention before, which is that one
- 10:26Speaker 2: of the many legends of Sweet Hall Road is that
- 10:29Speaker 2: of a ghost black dog or some kind of a
- 10:34Speaker 2: dog beasts kind of hybrid that will cross the street
- 10:39Speaker 2: and look at you, and it's stopping to look at
- 10:41Speaker 2: you and then walking into the woods. Is a portentous
- 10:45Speaker 2: thing of doom. And so when we were driving out
- 10:49Speaker 2: of there, you know, there was really just two cars
- 10:53Speaker 2: trying to just get away from there, and we were
- 10:55Speaker 2: falling too closely, and the car that I was in,
- 10:58Speaker 2: which was in front, off short because sure enough, there
- 11:01Speaker 2: was a black dog, no caller, that was just in
- 11:04Speaker 2: the middle of the street, not fazed by two cars
- 11:06Speaker 2: coming at it, looked at us and headed, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 2: just walked calmly off of the road, and I didn't
- 11:15Speaker 2: mention that initially because that would take the story into
- 11:19Speaker 2: a whole nother kind of level of just maybe not
- 11:22Speaker 2: being believable. But I learned about this dog after the fact,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and sure enough there are that those kind of myths
- 11:32Speaker 2: are in writing as well.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, we're gonna hear Rob's thoughts
- 11:37Speaker 1: on what it is he thinks he encountered out in
- 11:40Speaker 1: the woods. Support for this episode comes from Audible. You

- 14:44Speaker 1: when you first saw this figure in the woods doing
- 14:47Speaker 1: this weird crazy dance about how far away was it?
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's hard to the way that I put it is
- 14:53Speaker 2: that if we hadn't started running, he was far enough
- 14:57Speaker 2: away that he would actually it would actually take him
- 14:59Speaker 2: a couple minutes to actually get to us. This thing
- 15:02Speaker 2: like again, this field. I had learned in subsequent years
- 15:07Speaker 2: that I can't remember if it used to be a
- 15:10Speaker 2: summer camp or it was at the time, and you know,
- 15:13Speaker 2: because it was in the middle of the school year
- 15:14Speaker 2: that it just wasn't being used. But I don't recall
- 15:19Speaker 2: ever seeing a summer camp that used this much property.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It was huge. We knew that we if we started running,
- 15:26Speaker 2: we would have a head start, so that that's a
- 15:28Speaker 2: really good question of just like it was hard to
- 15:31Speaker 2: say how far it is, but he was far enough
- 15:33Speaker 2: that if we ran and got into our cars, there's
- 15:36Speaker 2: no way he could have caught us.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Did it look like it was a male figure?
- 15:40Speaker 2: You know, to this day, I can't even tell like
- 15:44Speaker 2: if male or female. All that we knew was that
- 15:46Speaker 2: it was almost This sounds so crazy the more I
- 15:50Speaker 2: talk about it. It was translucent to the point where like,
- 15:54Speaker 2: if you weren't looking for him, you wouldn't be able
- 15:56Speaker 2: to see him. But as soon as we pointed him
- 15:58Speaker 2: out to Jeff, he had to kind of peak, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 2: appear a little bit and swint to make, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 2: to make a form of him. But it was so
- 16:06Speaker 2: hard to get any sort of read on male female,
- 16:11Speaker 2: any any sort of defining characteristics. My first thought was
- 16:16Speaker 2: that one of us had separated from the group while
- 16:19Speaker 2: we were checking out the house and was playing a
- 16:21Speaker 2: prank on us. It was that kind of group there
- 16:23Speaker 2: all were. Again, we're all theater kids. We love to
- 16:25Speaker 2: just be expressive and just be crazy, and so I
- 16:29Speaker 2: really thought until I looked around and saw that we
- 16:32Speaker 2: were all accounted for, that it was one of us
- 16:34Speaker 2: who had ran ahead and decided to just mess with us.
- 16:37Speaker 2: And because like the whole point of going out there
- 16:40Speaker 2: was to scare each other and you know, find something creepy,
- 16:44Speaker 2: but never in a millionaires we actually did. I actually
- 16:46Speaker 2: expect to see something that And again it was it
- 16:51Speaker 2: would be one thing if one of us saw it,
- 16:53Speaker 2: but the fact that we all, once it was pointed out,
- 16:57Speaker 2: we saw it, it was just it was fascinating. I
- 17:03Speaker 2: have to say, Like that's why none of us moved
- 17:05Speaker 2: at first. We were just kind of looking at it,
- 17:08Speaker 2: like what is who is that? Is that? One? Is
- 17:10Speaker 2: that someone that you know? Is this a prank or
- 17:14Speaker 2: something like that? And to this day, I don't know.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I don't know if if one of us in the group,
- 17:20Speaker 2: uh set that all up and was having someone do that, But.
- 17:24Speaker 1: That would have to be a pretty elaborate setup though, right,
- 17:27Speaker 1: that's such.
- 17:28Speaker 2: A great point, it's like they would have had to
- 17:30Speaker 2: know every step of where we were going to be.
- 17:32Speaker 2: That's why. But on the flip side, it's like, who
- 17:36Speaker 2: would have been out there in the woods at that
- 17:38Speaker 2: time of night? It was, you know, probably eleven eleven thirty,
- 17:41Speaker 2: close to midnight. Why would someone be out in that area?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Just like, again did he know that we were there? Like?
- 17:50Speaker 2: What was? There was so much more questions that answers
- 17:54Speaker 2: even to this day. And you know, it's what fifteen
- 17:59Speaker 2: years later and all of us are still friends. Just
- 18:02Speaker 2: had a zoom meeting, you know, zoom call with a
- 18:05Speaker 2: few of them last weekend, And every now and then,
- 18:09Speaker 2: whether it's text or on a phone call, one of
- 18:12Speaker 2: us will say, hey, sweet hall, like did that happen?
- 18:15Speaker 2: And just to kind of confirm to us that yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 2: it did. And it still makes absolutely no sense in
- 18:21Speaker 2: that Like when I was a kid, just disembodied figures
- 18:23Speaker 2: that I would see and not not scary for me,
- 18:27Speaker 2: like other people might be terrified, but for me, it
- 18:29Speaker 2: was more interesting and fascinating. I wanted to get to
- 18:31Speaker 2: understand what I was. You know, was I seeing anything?
- 18:35Speaker 2: Was it a manifestation? Was it someone trying to reach out,
- 18:38Speaker 2: and so, you know, it didn't surprise me that our
- 18:41Speaker 2: first impulse was not to run, but just to watch
- 18:44Speaker 2: it and get a better sense of what this thing
- 18:47Speaker 2: was up to. And then when it started running at us,
- 18:52Speaker 2: we all had the exact same idea, just run, let's
- 18:54Speaker 2: not try and figure this thing out anymore.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So when you look back on it now and think
- 19:00Speaker 1: about it, do you get the impression that it was
- 19:03Speaker 1: a physical person out there or more of like a
- 19:06Speaker 1: spirit or an apparition or something like that.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You know, I have absolutely no idea. I really don't
- 19:13Speaker 2: know either. Possibility is bizarre and interesting in its own way.
- 19:20Speaker 2: One of them, you know, the idea that someone was
- 19:22Speaker 2: out there, you know, just flailing about. Yeah, like the
- 19:28Speaker 2: idea that someone was actually out there doing that. And
- 19:31Speaker 2: you know, and then in hindsight, I was thinking, was
- 19:33Speaker 2: that the person that I was, Because again, there were
- 19:36Speaker 2: two trails that were running parallel to each other. Did
- 19:39Speaker 2: this person follow us in through the other one and
- 19:42Speaker 2: kind of keep track of us that way? Because I
- 19:44Speaker 2: definitely heard rustling that was not ours. It was further
- 19:50Speaker 2: out into the woods in that direction of the other trail,
- 19:53Speaker 2: So if someone was there, it would have been easy
- 19:58Speaker 2: for them to take the other trail follow us that
- 20:00Speaker 2: way and while we were busy with the house, run
- 20:03Speaker 2: straight ahead and go to that side of the clearing.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Definitely just scary, is that. Like, you know, if it
- 20:08Speaker 2: was some sort of apparition in the woods, then it
- 20:11Speaker 2: was most likely it did. When it was dancing had
- 20:15Speaker 2: more of a playful, like jovial kind of energy, and
- 20:18Speaker 2: the running is what you know, took us, took us
- 20:21Speaker 2: back for a second. But I did. We have gone
- 20:24Speaker 2: back there in uh subsequent even after I try. You know,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I think most of that group transferred out of that
- 20:31Speaker 2: UH at school the following year, not for that reason necessarily,
- 20:37Speaker 2: but we I did go back to that same area
- 20:42Speaker 2: at least two or three more times, sometimes with the
- 20:45Speaker 2: same group. Other times I took friends from Connecticut that
- 20:48Speaker 2: I just wanted to show them that area, and nothing similarly,
- 20:52Speaker 2: nothing even remotely similar happened. In fact, it was kind
- 20:54Speaker 2: of disappointing to go out there again and not run
- 20:57Speaker 2: into something crazy.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Did you guys go back out to where the house was?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeah. And actually Jeff, who was the six'
- 21:03Speaker 2: four wrestler type THIS i can't Believe i'm admitting this right,
- 21:07Speaker 2: Now but he actually kicked the door open to that. House,
- 21:13Speaker 2: yeah we you, KNOW i think it was the next
- 21:15Speaker 2: time that we all as a group went over. THERE
- 21:17Speaker 2: i think it was the following. Semester but he was
- 21:20Speaker 2: just kind of an impulsive person and he was, Like
- 21:24Speaker 2: i'm gonna kick this, door and we all tried to tell,
- 21:26Speaker 2: no we don't know whose house this is or what
- 21:28Speaker 2: the deal, is and he almost kicked it completely, open
- 21:34Speaker 2: and none of us were happy about.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It did any of you guys try to call out
- 21:38Speaker 1: to the figure when you first saw it or was
- 21:41Speaker 1: it too far?
- 21:41Speaker 2: Away it was too far, Away and that's THE i
- 21:44Speaker 2: think the part that scared us the most is that
- 21:46Speaker 2: we didn't realize that this guy or whoever it, was
- 21:49Speaker 2: had seen. Us you, know it was so dark that
- 21:53Speaker 2: like we for whatever, reason we just it never occurred
- 21:55Speaker 2: to us that this person that we were watching could
- 21:58Speaker 2: also see. Us and so once he, did he stopped
- 22:01Speaker 2: and then started running for. Us and it was just
- 22:03Speaker 2: that primal human instinct to run in the opposite direction
- 22:08Speaker 2: and not way to stick around to see what motives they.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Had but we had flashlights and, everything and that was
- 22:14Speaker 2: HOW i knew That jeff saw it and was following
- 22:17Speaker 2: BECAUSE i heard him shrieking at the top of his,
- 22:19Speaker 2: lungs turn around and saw his flashlight following way behind. Us,
- 22:24Speaker 2: yeah we had, flashlights AND i believe that someone else
- 22:26Speaker 2: in our, GROUP i can't remember, who but they had
- 22:28Speaker 2: also done some sort of amateur ghost hunting and they
- 22:31Speaker 2: had night vision, goggles which would have been useful at that,
- 22:35Speaker 2: time but we didn't even think to take them out
- 22:37Speaker 2: of the. Bag it was one of those fall nights with.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Them it was just the moon was extremely bright and
- 22:45Speaker 2: we were in a completely open, area had no problem seeing,
- 22:48Speaker 2: that and it was only on that far side of
- 22:51Speaker 2: the of the clearing that it was a bit more,
- 22:55Speaker 2: shadowy which is where this thing was doing its. Routine but,
- 23:01Speaker 2: no when we were out in that, field we didn't
- 23:03Speaker 2: we didn't need the flashlights it. All it was very
- 23:05Speaker 2: well lit when we Were it's hard to say if
- 23:08Speaker 2: when we were walking it took about twenty minutes from
- 23:10Speaker 2: car to the field that running back it was about five. Minutes,
- 23:14Speaker 2: yeah it's hard to it's hard to say exactly how,
- 23:17Speaker 2: far but you, know it was a running. Back it
- 23:21Speaker 2: felt like it took. Forever it was only a few,
- 23:24Speaker 2: minutes but we just want to get out of, there
- 23:27Speaker 2: get into the, car and have all of us make it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Too you, know we. Couldn't we obviously couldn't leave anyone.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Behind what's going through your mind when this thing starts
- 23:36Speaker 1: charging at. YOU i mean you're a group of seven,
- 23:38Speaker 1: guys so that has to be very.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Strange, yeah, yeah, Absolutely AND i think for whatever, reason you,
- 23:46Speaker 2: know on the way in my thinking, was, well you,
- 23:48Speaker 2: know it's we're, seven we're, all you, know we're. All
- 23:51Speaker 2: we can all take care of. Ourselves it's. Fine and
- 23:53Speaker 2: yet at the same, time you, know in any horror
- 23:56Speaker 2: movie when you see people, running it's, like you, know
- 23:59Speaker 2: in that moment into that's all that we could think
- 24:02Speaker 2: of to, do and then once we got in the,
- 24:03Speaker 2: car get out because we. Don't and now also at this,
- 24:06Speaker 2: point it's, like if that guy is out, here does
- 24:08Speaker 2: he do they also have people out there joining, them you,
- 24:11Speaker 2: know and hearing scary true stories apparently in the later
- 24:17Speaker 2: years on YouTube of just like people who went out
- 24:19Speaker 2: in the woods and there was a colt out there
- 24:20Speaker 2: or they were you, know there was they saw one person,
- 24:23Speaker 2: initially but there was several other with. Them it's like
- 24:25Speaker 2: you don't, know and stopping to even try and deal
- 24:31Speaker 2: with this person just didn't seem like something that any
- 24:37Speaker 2: of us had any interest.
- 24:38Speaker 1: In at that, point you, said you guys took off right.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Away how close did it end up getting to? You?
- 24:43Speaker 2: Guys as soon as you started, running we, Started we immediately.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Walked we ran in the opposite, direction so it's hard
- 24:51Speaker 2: to say if they got any, traction but they were going.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Fast and, again the field was so large that even
- 24:58Speaker 2: if we stopped what we were doing for, them it
- 25:00Speaker 2: would have taken a while from to get to. Us
- 25:02Speaker 2: that's how big disclaimer. Was AND i, yeah, AGAIN i
- 25:05Speaker 2: think that it was some kind of a field for
- 25:09Speaker 2: a summer. Campus i've tried to actually look for it
- 25:12Speaker 2: On google Or, earth And i've seen large fields that were.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Similar AND i can't say decisively if that was, it but,
- 25:19Speaker 2: yeah the, second within seconds of this person, RUNNING i
- 25:23Speaker 2: was out and did not look, back hopped in the,
- 25:25Speaker 2: car we were out of. There that's the. Thing it's
- 25:27Speaker 2: LIKE i in that moment when someone starts running at
- 25:30Speaker 2: you and you don't know who they are or what
- 25:33Speaker 2: they're capable, of the you know that your your survival
- 25:36Speaker 2: instinct kicks in and you were gone in the opposite,
- 25:39Speaker 2: direction and just at that, point so many things just
- 25:43Speaker 2: weren't even making. Sense why was this person out? Here
- 25:47Speaker 2: were They were they a member of the, Group, no they.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Weren't who is? That what are they? Doing why are they?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Dancing why are they like swinging around the? Trees and
- 25:54Speaker 2: then all of a, sudden out of, nowhere boom right for,
- 25:57Speaker 2: Us And i'll just and, again like in the decade
- 26:03Speaker 2: and a half since, then you, know we always every
- 26:06Speaker 2: time the group of us on text or, calls every
- 26:09Speaker 2: time when of springs, up we're, like, yeah that really,
- 26:11Speaker 2: happened just because EVEN i sometimes can't believe that it actually.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Happened And i'm telling this story to yourself to other
- 26:19Speaker 2: people throughout the, years AND i just have to remind myself, that,
- 26:23Speaker 2: yeah that that is still something in my life that
- 26:28Speaker 2: just any, possible any possible explanation also comes with questions
- 26:33Speaker 2: of its. Own, yeah and having those six other people
- 26:38Speaker 2: kind of verify that for me every chance THAT i need.
- 26:41Speaker 2: It every time That i'm, like, no that didn't then they're, like,
- 26:43Speaker 2: yeah it really did happen exactly as you're saying. It you,
- 26:48Speaker 2: Know i've a part of me wants it to be not,
- 26:51Speaker 2: true just because the reality of it is so confusing and.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Horrifying but on the other, hand it was in, hindsight
- 27:01Speaker 2: it was thrilling to be a part of something that
- 27:03Speaker 2: just didn't end up hurting. Us just, really you, know
- 27:07Speaker 2: scared me probably more than anything That i've experienced since. Then,
- 27:11Speaker 2: yeah you don't think that something like that's going to
- 27:13Speaker 2: happen you. Ever you, know you see in, horrormony you
- 27:17Speaker 2: see on, television you see that these wild situations that
- 27:19Speaker 2: you know there's a twist or something at the, end
- 27:21Speaker 2: and it all makes. Sense but to be a part
- 27:23Speaker 2: of a situation, that you, know, again if it was
- 27:27Speaker 2: just me or maybe one of the person that would
- 27:30Speaker 2: be one. Thing and it's, like well maybe we got
- 27:32Speaker 2: some of the details. Roight, no it was a group
- 27:34Speaker 2: of us and we were all there to kind of
- 27:36Speaker 2: experience it and be freaked out together and just running
- 27:39Speaker 2: for our. Lives and you, know it could, have for
- 27:42Speaker 2: all we, know been some person out there who followed
- 27:45Speaker 2: us and decided to scare. Us any alternative other than
- 27:50Speaker 2: that is inherently. Scary but it was something that we
- 27:56Speaker 2: laugh about, now but at the. Time it, was you,
- 27:58Speaker 2: know just really extraordinary and. Horrifying, yeah fifteen years and
- 28:06Speaker 2: we've all seen each other through marriages and divorces and,
- 28:08Speaker 2: children changing, jobs changing, cities and that core group has
- 28:14Speaker 2: not lost. Touch AND i think that was a large
- 28:15Speaker 2: part of. It you, know we all had that freshman
- 28:18Speaker 2: year to kind of. Bond but then that incident is
- 28:21Speaker 2: something THAT i know IF i went up to any
- 28:23Speaker 2: one of them and said and Mentioned Sweet Holler, road
- 28:26Speaker 2: THEY i would see their expression, change you. Know was
- 28:30Speaker 2: it was a pretty pretty amazing. Thing the bit about the,
- 28:34Speaker 2: dog and you know that that was a whole other
- 28:38Speaker 2: thing because that almost caused us to crash into each other,
- 28:42Speaker 2: because you, know we me and my Friend chris was.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Driving we turned around this corner just trying To we
- 28:47Speaker 2: didn't care about where we were. Heading we just wanted
- 28:49Speaker 2: to tee as far away from that spot as we.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Could turn around a sharp turn and there's a kind
- 28:55Speaker 2: of a black. Lab it looked like like a Lab
- 28:59Speaker 2: german shepherd from WHAT i remember, age so that the
- 29:03Speaker 2: fur was somewhat, gray just standing mill of the, road
- 29:06Speaker 2: looking at, us not, barking not doing, anything and then
- 29:10Speaker 2: just slowly walks. Off so that was freaking. Enough Google
- 29:13Speaker 2: Sweet Hollow road you'll see pages about the ghost dog
- 29:17Speaker 2: and about the covered bridge that moves your car if
- 29:21Speaker 2: you park underneath. It And i've since tried to explain
- 29:25Speaker 2: to the other folks in this, group, guys you know
- 29:28Speaker 2: there's a story about remember the. Dog there's a ghost
- 29:30Speaker 2: dog Myth this is not. Good and none of them
- 29:33Speaker 2: really take me. Seriously they're, Like, rob it is the.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Dog And i'm, like all, right all, Right like Maybe
- 29:38Speaker 2: i'm getting out of hand with, that but it was
- 29:40Speaker 2: still a part of the of the whole puzzle THAT
- 29:44Speaker 2: i still don't think that they really understand. That it's
- 29:46Speaker 2: like that was another legend that we saw and we
- 29:49Speaker 2: didn't realize that at the. Time i'm always thrilled WHEN
- 29:52Speaker 2: i tell that story and people actually they have the
- 29:55Speaker 2: reaction THAT i had, too which was just you, know
- 29:58Speaker 2: bewilderment and uh, terror and it's it's, fascinating you, know
- 30:03Speaker 2: they're and it. Was it was at a turning point
- 30:07Speaker 2: in all of our. Lives you, know it's it's college
- 30:09Speaker 2: and that's a time of discovering more about, yourself and
- 30:12Speaker 2: it's you, know not necessarily this kind of incident that
- 30:15Speaker 2: you want in your college, experience but it definitely was
- 30:19Speaker 2: a formative night for. US i mentioned before That i'm
- 30:23Speaker 2: a horror you, know horror film buff and a, writer
- 30:25Speaker 2: And i've been writing horror movie reviews for some time
