Transcript
- 0:00I'm Christina.
- 0:00And I'm T.
- 0:01And this is the"Pretty and Pink Again" podcast.
- 0:03Where motherhood meets rediscovery.
- 0:04Ugh.
- 0:16I can't, guys- Do you wanna tell them or may I?
- 0:21I I can't even explain how- What just happened in this house for the past two hours?
- 0:25It- Ma'am so we were starting off with a very solid idea of, coming on here and lifting the veil of what goes on behind the scenes sometimes to get the podcast going.
- 0:38We were gonna have, a very fun, playful, bantery episode because it's been a long time since we've had one of those.
- 0:44We've had a lot of guests on.
- 0:46We have new listeners.
- 0:47We're like,"Let's sit in the chairs and just, yap." And...
- 0:52My computer died.
- 0:53And not only did my computer die, we had white noise.
- 0:57The white noise was crazy in the background.
- 1:00So we, when we went to listen to, anything that did record before the laptop died, it was like bzz.
- 1:06Like in the...
- 1:06And I'm like, we're like,"Where's that coming from?" Ah.
- 1:10And what we were recording whilst this was happening was we were talking about what was going on behind the scenes, and sometimes we've had issues where we've recorded episodes, and we've lost them.
- 1:21And basically how much of a shitshow this sometimes is behind the scenes.
- 1:25It's not all the time.
- 1:26We have, a very good workflow from the last, 60 something episodes of trial and error.
- 1:32But, like, every once in a while, technology is just, like, not on our side.
- 1:37And, this morning was one of those things.
- 1:38We were almost close to, calling it and just being like,"We're throwing up an older episode, and, like, everyone's just gonna have to deal." Well, we can add this to the checks and balances part of podcasting.
- 1:49Now we have to have extra backup chargers too.
- 1:52And we have to make sure that your laptop is completely ch- or at least, like, semi-charged- Not dead because it was charging.
- 1:59Like what I presented you with- It was- a dead laptop it was charging, but it was like- Not enough we, we run so much off of it that it was just like it's a very metaphor for,, like, a mother, where it's like there's nothing left to give.
- 2:12And, you know, her cup needs to be full.
- 2:14And not every charging block does the job.
- 2:17Yeah.
- 2:17We needed a super charging block.
- 2:19Yeah, metaphor for motherhood.
- 2:21And this is perfect because this episode is gonna come out right before Mother's Day, which is why we were like, no, we really wanna do, a rock solid episode and not just throw up an older episode, our rewind, which we've only had to do once or twice in, in case of emergencies.
- 2:35But we were like,"No, we're gonna pull it together, and...
- 2:39we're gonna record a new episode.
- 2:41We wanna chat with our listeners, give them some updates of what's been going on, and, like, a little bit of behind the scenes." But, like, wow, was that a metaphor for what mothers go through.
- 2:50Oh, my God, what mothers go through, what business owners go through.
- 2:53I mean, I will still stand and say with conviction that I still want to do this ourselves- Mm-hmm and still produce it ourselves, and still film here in our house- Of course ourselves- Mm-hmm and not go to a studio where they would do all this other stuff- Yeah and we could just be the creative., The way we do this podcast is we are the creative, and then we are the producers.
- 3:14We are the editors.
- 3:15We do it all.
- 3:16We do both parts- Mm-hmm and both parts the creative and the sound and everything are equal parts important.
- 3:22And sometimes I, I don't know why it doesn't work, but- It's, it's so funny too what me and you, obviously, like, being business partners and, co-creatives in this, it's funny what both of us have gravitated towards in terms of, I don't wanna say caring,'cause we both care so deeply for, like, all aspects of the business.
- 3:43But what, like, grinds each of our gears, and, for you, it's the sound.
- 3:48T is...
- 3:49So we film in T's house.
- 3:51She has all of the equipment set up.
- 3:53We have a studio in h- in her house.
- 3:55So she is, quote-unquote, responsible for all of the studio equipment,'cause it's, literally in her house.
- 4:01But that has been something that you've become so deeply passionate about, is, like, the sound- Ooh and all of our equipment, and, everything working and functioning correctly, and- I just don't like to listen to- It's a huge responsibility well, I just don't like to listen to something if it- I know you don't sounds fatiguing and if it doesn't sound good.
- 4:16I personally don't like listening to something that way.
- 4:18No, you turn, you turn it off.
- 4:19And I'll turn it off.
- 4:21I can't listen to a, the content.
- 4:23The content could be excellent, but, this could be, like, an audiobook or another podcast.
- 4:27If the sound quality isn't there, I can't listen to it.
- 4:30You're like, that's your job.
- 4:31Like, it's- So- You're, you're in audio.
- 4:33So- Like, that's what your job is if ours doesn't sound great- I know we don't put it out, and there's- Mm been times where we didn't put stuff out.
- 4:39I know, and T's been, like, the one- And it sucks that's like,"Absolutely not." She's the one- And it sucks that's like,"No." So that would've had to happen today.
- 4:45But luckily, my computer died, so we picked up on it, so maybe it was a good thing the computer died.
- 4:49I know.
- 4:49But whatever.
- 4:50And we've said- We're here now.
- 4:51We made mistakes.
- 4:52I know.
- 4:52We fixed it.
- 4:53Well, you know what?
- 4:53Ugh, the worst.
- 4:53No one's perfect, and we're, we s- it's just, like, one of those live and learn lessons.
- 4:58And we've said that luckily this has a- happened when it's been me and you.
- 5:04We've had one instance where it happened one, when a guest was here.
- 5:07With a guest.
- 5:07But luckily, it's one of our dear, dear friends and another creative, and so she was completely understanding.
- 5:12We have to re-record that episode in the coming weeks, and we will re-release that one.
- 5:17But it's just, it's one of those things, live and learn, but we're here.
- 5:21We're gonna, we're gonna try to lighten up the mood a little bit- Oh my gosh'cause me and you get it, ugh.
- 5:27I'm, who do you think gets ugh more?
- 5:30I think it depends on what the issue is.
- 5:33For you, you are like, you g- get very nutty about the sound quality and all of the, like, professional equipment, like, working, and, like, the, maybe the tech.
- 5:43Like, I feel like it, you just, you put that weight on your shoulders, if you will.
- 5:47For me, I'm much more, I think it gets social media is a little bit more my- Probably like category where, like, I get pissy if something's not working or if it's not going the way I want it to go, or if it doesn't reflect what I want it to, it to reflect.
- 6:03I think that that's my area where I get, like, super annoying about, like- For sure the aesthetics and, like, the fonts and all, like, all of the stuff that, like the branding- Mm-hmm and all of that stuff.
- 6:14Like, that's stuff that- Oh my God bothers me.
- 6:16Like- I remember when we first started, you showed me how to work, I think was it InShot or CapCut?
- 6:22I think that's what we were using.
- 6:23One of the, I think- It was one of the two, and you were trying to talk me through how to edit a clip.
- 6:28And I'm not even kidding, I worked on this the entire day.
- 6:31Like, I worked on trying to edit this clip the entire day, trying to figure out where to put text, where to add the music, where to cut the video.
- 6:39Like, I was like two thumbs trying to figure this out all day, back and forth, text back and forth, and then finally it was like 6:00 and I finally posted it, and you were like,"I thought we weren't posting today.
- 6:50I thought we were posting tomorrow." And I was like,"Fuck! I hate you.
- 6:55I finally figured this shit out," and you were like,"We're not even posting today." That wasn't supposed to happen yet.
- 7:01So I feel like very early on- Oh my God we learned that is your lane- Yeah and you are staying in it.
- 7:07Yeah.
- 7:07I'm getting the fuck out of it.
- 7:08Because I'm not good at it.
- 7:09Now I know how to do it.
- 7:10Now I can do it if I have to.
- 7:12I know.
- 7:12But like I'm not good at that, and I don't, I'm not gonna pretend like I am.
- 7:15I'm good at other things.
- 7:17I think that's I don't know if it's interesting.
- 7:20I always find that, like, when I, you know, if I'm, like, invested in something I'm listening to, whether it's, like, a podcast or if it's, like, an influencer duo or something, like, I am always like, what goes on behind the scenes?
- 7:32Like, how do you make it work between the two of you?
- 7:35What's the workflow like?" Like, because you know that, partnerships in any capacity are never 50/50 all the time, right?
- 7:43Like, there's moments where you probably come together and it's 50/50, but then there's some weeks where, like, y- you're not in it and someone else has to pick up the slack, or, like, you're not good at this part of the job so, someone else comes into- So I always find that dynamic is so interesting, like, when two people work together and it's done well and it's successful.
- 8:04You're like,"How does that go on behind the scenes?" And I'm coming from a background where I've worked primarily for myself.
- 8:10Mm-hmm.
- 8:10Like, I'm the point of view.
- 8:12I'm my own boss, And I've done that for, it was 14 years before I started this with you.
- 8:18And so it's so interesting to come into this business where we are 50/50, but we both have our own strengths and weaknesses, if you wanna call them weaknesses.
- 8:29But it's like we come together, we make this work.
- 8:31We have now a great workflow where it works 99% of the time, and then sometimes just, like, technology- Sometimes there's life noise and life just isn't on our side.
- 8:40Sometimes there's life noise.
- 8:40Sometimes we do everything right, and there's- white noise for no reason and you can't figure out why And a kid home with strep throat and a dog barking Ugh.
- 8:48Just we try to make it work.
- 8:50I mean, that is our work environment.
- 8:51Yeah.
- 8:52And- But to your point, we- we've made it work for, like, 60-something episodes, and there's trial and errors, but we have it down.
- 9:00I think we have it down now, like, I think- If- if this episode ever sees the light of day- If it actually makes it- then yeah to Apple and Spotify and wherever else you listen to your podcasts, we have been successful in this episode.
- 9:12And if it hasn't, then you don't even know that this happened, and we haven't been able to get the message out.
- 9:16I just find it very funny that we, like, were trying to do an episode about what it's like behind the scenes, and then we had, like, the most chaotic- couple hours before we were actually able to sit down and record.
- 9:29It's just, it- it's like life was laughing at us, like being like,"Ha, ha, ha.
- 9:34What are you trying to do?
- 9:35You're trying to make funny content about behind the scenes?
- 9:38We're gonna give you a story today.""We're gonna make sure that nothing works- You're welcome so that you're just sitting at the chair fired up and like..." I didn't need that, okay?
- 9:46I didn't need it either.
- 9:47I have enough content on my own, thank you very much.
- 9:50I know.
- 9:50Thank you very much.
- 9:50Sometimes we wanna sit in this chair and reflect and share the funny and not, like, have to have, like, another- Oh my God, well, we, we did that at lunch on Friday.
- 9:59We did.
- 10:00We had, we have enough of that.
- 10:01So all right, so I also think what would be funny is, like, sharing all of the makings of what actually has to happen for us to sit in this chair other than, like, what happened today.
- 10:13But, like, we, like, pick a date, right?
- 10:15Especially if it's me and you or maybe we have an interview.
- 10:18And we try to, obviously, when we have an interview, we try to be much more professional than when it's just me and you.
- 10:23When it's just me and you, I'm normally running into this house.
- 10:26I'm like,"Be there in five." You normally know that that means in 30.
- 10:31Like, that's my timing because I have to leave my house with my kids home.
- 10:36And normally, no matter- Oh, that sounds awful how my house is the way my house is, I ha- I feel like I just run into them leaving the house, no matter if I try to sneak out, if I try to say goodbye, and it just always adds, like, an extra 10 or 15 minutes.
- 10:49Like, there's requests.
- 10:50I have to make sure that I say the right things before I leave.
- 10:53I have to make sure everybody knows, like, I'm leaving the nanny there with them.
- 10:57And it's u- it's usually just, like, an adventure for me to exit the home.
- 11:02And then I usually text to you when I'm on the way and I'm like,"Okay," like,"I'm- I'm here." Yeah, and I'm like,"Just let yourself in." She's like,"Come in.""Come in.""You know the garage code.""You have the code." And I just normally, like- But she waits for me to let her in sit out there for five seconds because I'm like,"This-'cause any mom knows that, like, when you leave your house and then you sit in a car, it's like a vacation.
- 11:21So I, like, sit down.
- 11:22I'm usually like, I have a few minutes to, like, get my thoughts together, meditate, because I'm like,"What the actual F was that just leaving my house?" You know?
- 11:31Now I have to, transition into work mode, especially when we have, like s- a guest on, and I'm like Like I gotta get my shit together before we, like, sit down and start asking somebody questions, and I'm supposed to know what's going on.
- 11:43I need a moment.
- 11:43Mm-hmm.
- 11:44And then I come in, and half the time you're not fucking ready.
- 11:47You're, like, half doing your makeup.
- 11:48Like- Every time you come in, I'm in- Phone chargers all over the place I'm in the bathroom still getting ready.
- 11:53Do you- I'm like,"I'm up here." And she's like,"Oh, fuck.
- 11:56She's still getting ready.
- 11:57I'm recording, like, a get ready with me.
- 11:59I'm, like, just doing some mascara." No big deal.
- 12:02You come in here, it's like a bomb hit it.
- 12:04Vincent's been watching TV in here.
- 12:06There, before, actually I did tidy up a little in here, because there was, like, a lollipop and he had a bloody nose.
- 12:10Ugh.
- 12:10I'm like,"Can you not get a bloody nose on my white chair in my office?
- 12:14You're so annoying.
- 12:15Go find another room to sit in." We are really keeping it real around here.
- 12:19We, like, film in the houses.
- 12:20Oh my gosh, it's such a mess in here.
- 12:21We, our, both of our houses are just like everyone else's house.
- 12:23Well, no, because it's full of h- Yep it's full of kids.
- 12:25Yep.
- 12:25My house is full of kids all the time.
- 12:26Yes.
- 12:27Even when they're in school, it's full of kids.
- 12:28So usually my mornings, I get the kids off by, like, 8:30, 9:00, somewhere in that- Yeah timeframe.
- 12:34Yeah.
- 12:35Sometimes it's earlier if everybody's off on time, but whatever.
- 12:37And then I like to, like, do my walk, tidy up the house.
- 12:40Because since we record here, it needs to be, like, tidied- I know especially if a guest is coming over.
- 12:45I know.
- 12:45You have, like, a lot of pressure.
- 12:46So I like to tidy up a little bit.
- 12:47Mm-hmm.
- 12:48And then, you know, have something to eat, because if I don't eat before I record, I get- Oh, she is- hangry and mad, and I'm so miserable if I don't eat.
- 12:54She is nasty too.
- 12:55I'm nasty.
- 12:56I just grabbed hummus and pretzel.
- 12:58Maybe that'll hold me over until we finish recording.
- 13:02But I like to, like, listen to the notes.
- 13:04I like to figure out what- Mm-hmm questions I'm gonna ask.
- 13:06Mm-hmm.
- 13:06And I actually prefer guest episodes, because I love to ask the questions.
- 13:10When we do our episodes, I have to do 50%- More talking of the talking.
- 13:14But when we do the guest episodes, I can just focus on listening and then getting the next question, and then it's kinda like pinging it back to them, and then they can do the talking.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:23When we are recording, me and you, I have to do half the talking.
- 13:26You have to be a little bit more on.
- 13:27I feel like I have to be more on.
- 13:29Yeah.
- 13:29But you feel like when we have a guest you have to be more on?
- 13:31I feel like it depends on who it is.
- 13:34I feel like, it, there, and we've had a range.
- 13:36I feel like when it's somebody that I know really well, and maybe the banter comes a little bit more easy.
- 13:42Mm-hmm.
- 13:42I feel like maybe I don't have to, I don't wanna say I don't do much prep, because I'm always prepping.
- 13:46I wanna make sure I know who the guest is.
- 13:48I wanna make sure I know what questions I wanna ask.
- 13:51But I sometimes feel like I wanna go through the guide.
- 13:55T does the most amazing guides for us.
- 13:58Like, sh- that is just one of her, like, rockstar specialties that I feel like you've grown with this podcast.
- 14:04Thank you.
- 14:04Like, your guides are insane.
- 14:06We've shouted them out before- because even our guests, sometimes they get, like, an intro, and they're like,"Uh, damn, thanks." They're so good.
- 14:12But I a- I wanna make sure that, like- I know the flow and I know, like, what our goals are of the episode- Right so that when I am listening,'cause it is almost easy sometimes when you have a guest on to, like, I don't- Well, you get so engrossed in their story- Yes you forget what to prompt next.
- 14:26Yes.
- 14:26Yeah.
- 14:26And, like, you're kind of also like- I know, with the really good guests.
- 14:28Yeah wait, did we, are, did we circle back?
- 14:30Did we answer the question?
- 14:31You know what I mean?
- 14:32Like, you wanna be like, you wanna close the loop.
- 14:34Right.
- 14:34You wanna be like, okay- Right and then how do we move on to the next topic?
- 14:37Do we address everything?
- 14:38So I feel like if I know the goals are for each segment and section, then I feel a little bit more organized, but I can't just wing that, whereas I do feel like on our episodes, I'm like, we can kinda wing it.
- 14:51Right.
- 14:52You know?
- 14:52Yeah.
- 14:52Like, a- and I also feel I don't know, if we don't, if we don't close the loop, then, like, it's fine.
- 14:59Right.
- 15:00I don't know.
- 15:00It's just a little less pressure when it's with us, but at the same time, I do understand your point, that it is more pressure because it's more on- Right when it's just me and you.
- 15:08I think there's, that's enough about the behind-the-scenes nonsense- Oh, we're done of what's happening in this- We're done in, in this office.
- 15:16But what else do we wanna talk about?
- 15:17But you know what, though?
- 15:17Let's do that then.
- 15:18Every working mom, every, any mom- Mm-hmm that works from home, which I think is a lot of moms- A lot and a lot of people- Yeah like, they can relate to this.
- 15:24Or, like, hybrid, you know?
- 15:25Like, yeah.
- 15:25Or hybrid.
- 15:26Like, any, you don't think that any, I remember my mom works for Travelers- Mm-hmm and she was working from home a lot when I had the twins.
- 15:31Mm-hmm.
- 15:32Because I just needed another person, I needed, like, a warm body in this house, and she was like,"Your Wi-Fi is down." I'm like,"Who fucking cares if my Wi-Fi is down?" And you're like-"Figure it out." And she was like,"I care.
- 15:41I can't work if the Wi-Fi is down." Yeah.
- 15:43"I can't not have Wi-Fi." And she would panic about that, but that's just part of what happens when- It is you, I don't know, work from home.
- 15:50You rely on technology.
- 15:51Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work.
- 15:53It's so true.
- 15:53But- It's so true it happens, but- But kind of like keeping with that theme, we're gonna talk about, like, other things.
- 16:00Maybe, like, things that we don't say on the podcast.
- 16:04We say a lot, but we can go into that.
- 16:06Is there any topic that you think we've avoided?
- 16:10One that comes to mind that both of us have, like, rarely talked about is our actual marriage.
- 16:17Mm-hmm.
- 16:17Like, I think we've explored a lot of topics very, like, kid-centric, mother-centric, friendship-centric, business-centric, and we haven't done, a ton of lifting the veil on, like, each of our marriages.
- 16:33I think we've said enough, but we've both been very respectful of our husbands, and it, we don't a, it's just, I think something that both of us are, like, protective of.
- 16:44Yeah.
- 16:44And we don't want anything to get taken the wrong way, taken out of context, feeling like we're being- inappropriate, feeling like we're revealing too much.
- 16:54I also think it's not really fair because it's from one point of view.
- 16:58Mm-hmm.
- 16:58And so I'm sensitive to that.
- 17:00It's tricky because if you think about how many episodes we've done, in, like, 60 ep- something episodes, all the topics.
- 17:06We've done, like, girl-on-girl crime.
- 17:08We've done the mental load of motherhood.
- 17:10We've done how to resolve conflicts, like, all these things, and I've personally, like, woven my husband into those things.
- 17:19But it's like all of those things could be about anybody, right?
- 17:24Right.
- 17:24You know what I mean?
- 17:24This is specific to just one person.
- 17:26This, when, when you start talking about your marriage there's one.
- 17:30You know what I mean?
- 17:31Like, for me, there's one marriage, so you know who I'm talking about.
- 17:34Well, unless you live in Utah, there's usually- True just one.
- 17:37True.
- 17:37Valid.
- 17:38But, like, I'm gonna give it away who I'm talking about, and it feels very exposing, if that makes sense.
- 17:44Right.
- 17:44So, like, I weave it in, but it's not something that I could have, like, a full-on discussion where I feel like it's gonna be like a therapy session.
- 17:52You know what I mean?
- 17:52So I'm a little bit more, I don't wanna say closed off, but, like, as far as, like, openness about a specific topic, it's just hard to go there.
- 18:01Right.
- 18:01You know?
- 18:02And it's also just from my point of view, so I don't think it's fair- Right in my point.
- 18:06I don't think...
- 18:06It's like, yeah, of course any woman listening is gonna be like,"Yeah, I get that." And it- but it just feels like- Right it's too much.
- 18:14Well, I think that's just one part of your life that maybe you don't wanna blast out- Yeah on this podcast.
- 18:19You don't have to put every single part- Yeah of your life on here.
- 18:22Exactly.
- 18:22I don't feel as uncomfortable talking about Nick and my relationship- Mm-hmm although Nick is very private, and he- Mm-hmm doesn't want to be, like, blasted about.
- 18:32Right.
- 18:33But he also knows that I talk about him a lot.
- 18:35Yeah.
- 18:35He makes great content.
- 18:36Yeah.
- 18:36And so I feel a little bit more comfortable- Yeah talking about him.
- 18:40Actually, Thursday is our 15-year wedding anniversary.
- 18:43Wild.
- 18:43So when this airs, it'll be our 15-year- Oh my God wedding anniversary.
- 18:46Well, happy anniversary.
- 18:48And I mean, I met him when I was in college.
- 18:49Wild.
- 18:49I was a senior in college- Mm-hmm like, doing my clinical rotation, and we just, like, met as two babies.
- 18:56I know.
- 18:56Babies.
- 18:57And now I'm not.
- 18:58Now I'm almost 40.
- 19:00I know.
- 19:00Raja and I have actually been together, it'll be 19 years this year.
- 19:04Wow.
- 19:04Well, actually, it, it i- it just passed in April.
- 19:07We've been together for 19 years.
- 19:08Oh my gosh.
- 19:09And so next year...
- 19:10Like, obviously we didn't get married.
- 19:12We were together for, like, seven or eight years before we got married, but our dating anniversary is 19 years.
- 19:17So you were a junior in college?
- 19:18I was going into senior year of college, so yeah, just finished- Okay my junior year and going into senior year of college.
- 19:24Wow.
- 19:25Isn't that crazy?
- 19:25Wild.
- 19:26So- Yep'cause we met in 2008, so you guys met in 2007?
- 19:282007, yep.
- 19:29Okay.
- 19:30So crazy.
- 19:31So another thing is things that we cut.
- 19:33So what, where do you feel like we have to stop and start and cut?
- 19:38Well, it depends on the situation, and I think I've gotten a lot more comfortable over the course of the podcast.
- 19:44But I think when anything is too freshly happening, and I don't have my, h- I don't have, like, a full grasp on how I even feel about something yet, it's hard for me to talk about it.
- 19:55Mm-hmm.
- 19:55You know what I mean?
- 19:56In, like- In real time in real time especially when I'm not sure how I feel, I feel like I'm all over the place, you know?
- 20:03And so I can't really even gather a thought about it.
- 20:06That's, I feel like those are been the only times, when I'm, like, actively going through something, it's hard for me to talk about it.
- 20:12Right.
- 20:12When I'm, when it's in the past, I could talk about it all day.
- 20:15Right.
- 20:15You know?
- 20:16What about with you?
- 20:17Has there been anything?
- 20:19I think you're kinda the same.
- 20:20Sometimes I just can't find the right words.
- 20:23I think that if I don't know how I feel about a topic- Yes, yes like, if I don't, if I don't have, like, a gut reaction or if my gut reaction is something that I don't wanna really share on this podcast- Yes, yes then I have a hard time getting it out- Yes because I'm trying to find other words to describe the negative way that I feel about something.
- 20:38Yeah.
- 20:38I'm trying to find kind words to describe something that I'm having a negative, visceral reaction.
- 20:42Yeah.
- 20:42So I end up, like, talking in circles- Yes instead of just blurting it out.
- 20:46Yes.
- 20:46Yes,'cause you're trying to be, like, politically correct, too.
- 20:49I'm just trying to be- Yeah, yes yeah, I'm trying to sound eloquent, and what really I wanna say is, like- Yeah something not so nice.
- 20:54Yeah, and sometimes even with me with the kids, I do feel the same way.
- 20:58With my husband, Raja, and the kids, I get a little bit mama bear, where I wanna protect but also be, like, vulnerable and share.
- 21:08But I always feel- nervous to do that when it's like, they're not asking for that.
- 21:14You know what I mean?
- 21:14So I'm trying to be protective of, their feelings, and I don't wanna put words in anybody's mouth, and I don't wanna embarrass anybody by sharing something.
- 21:23I get a little bit protective.
- 21:24I do think that's because I've been in this space entirely too long, and I've seen, the other side of things.
- 21:32And so I get nervous just about, sharing details about okay, well, where is Leo going to school?
- 21:37Or where...
- 21:37You know what I mean?
- 21:38Like, I just get, like, I'm like,"Did I reveal too much?
- 21:40Did I say too much?
- 21:41Does it..." I get weird, you know?
- 21:42So there's some things like that I'm, as much as I wanna say,"Oh, yes, I'm an open book," like, no, I'm very, very aware of my words when it comes to my husband and my kids for, their safety and, like, exposing, if that makes sense.
- 21:56I know.
- 21:58I think I came into this far too green and not realizing the impact that my words can have- Mm-hmm on my husband and my children when I didn't think that they cared at all what I did all day, and then they started asking questions.
- 22:11And like,"Do you talk about us on the podcast?
- 22:13Do you wanna be spoken about on the podcast?
- 22:14Do you wanna be shown on our Instagram?
- 22:16Do you feel like I'm exploiting you do you feel like you're, like, a character in my life?" Right.
- 22:20"Do you like this?
- 22:21Do you not like this?" You know?
- 22:22And so now I have to take their feelings into account- And you said- and- that everybody has different, you have four kids- And they all- but they all have different feelings they all have different feelings- Yep and they all, you know, like, I have to ask their permission- Yeah which I never thought I had to.
- 22:36As their mother, I never thought I had to really do that, but I've learned that I have to ask their permission- Right constantly.
- 22:42Right.
- 22:43Really, with anybody in my life, I have to ask their permission- Right because it's, it's just something that I've learned.
- 22:48Right.
- 22:49Yep.
- 22:49I feel like since we've been doing this, and we've, have shared so much, and we've had, an influx of new listeners from our recent guests and just from you guys sharing the podcast.
- 22:59We have had just a ton of new people listening in, which is really exciting, and then there's been a lot of people that have been here from the beginning, which is also, in my opinion, just as exciting if not more exciting that we've ha- been able to, like, build a community.
- 23:13And we feel like we share so much with those people.
- 23:16Like, we feel like a lot of people know us really well on what we share.
- 23:20But what do you think people get wrong about you?
- 23:23Or do you think that people maybe get something wrong about you?
- 23:26Okay, so I, I'm not sure if you get to know me on the podcast, I feel like if you listen, if you just listen- Mm-hmm I think you've gotten me pretty right.
- 23:37Yeah.
- 23:37I think if you follow my social media, you might think I'm a little more of a passenger princess.
- 23:42But I think if you listen, you've k- You get more of, yeah you've gotten the impression that I'm a doer, a worker.
- 23:48I like to have my hands in all the pots around here.
- 23:51Yeah.
- 23:51I think that I am, like, very deeply rooted to, like, my family, my sisters, my parents, my kids.
- 23:58Like, I think listening to the podcast- You see that you kind of get the whole picture.
- 24:01You share it, yes.
- 24:02Versus my social media is a little bit more, like, you know- It's highlight reel I, you know- Even if you don't try to have it be.
- 24:08Just something that ends up happening because of the format of social media.
- 24:13Mm-hmm.
- 24:13Quick clips.
- 24:14It's like, how much can you share on there?
- 24:16You know what I mean?
- 24:16Right.
- 24:17Even when you do, like, the day in the life, right?
- 24:19It's, it's such short s- pieces of the day that you're editing together.
- 24:26You know what I mean?
- 24:26It is a weird thing.
- 24:28Mm-hmm.
- 24:28That, yes, I'm sure it gives a glimpse into it, but it's really not the full picture, and there's only so much you can say from those, you know?
- 24:35Right, or show.
- 24:36And, like, reveal, share from those.
- 24:38So even if you don't w- want it or mean it to be a highlight reel, it still is.
- 24:43Right.
- 24:43You know?
- 24:44Which- I don't know.
- 24:44What do you think?
- 24:45Do you think there's anything on the podcast that, like, do you think that- For you?
- 24:50For me, yeah.
- 24:51No, I think that you do a really accurate job of portraying kind of every aspect of your life, in a good way.
- 25:00It's a very well-rounded view of you, I think that that's- Yeah it's a fair view.
- 25:05I would say the same for you.
- 25:06But I agree with social media.
- 25:08I think that us dabbling in some of the humor and some of that, and, like, I think that's a very, yes, it's a portrayal of you, but it's, like, one-side portrayal of you.
- 25:18Right.
- 25:18That, you know- Well, I thought even working with you,'cause you were always, like, fashion, beauty influencer, I thought that you would have, like, packages showing up at your doorstep every day- Mm with, like, tons of clothes and tons of makeup.
- 25:28Like, you like makeup and clothes- Mm-hmm but, like, that's only, like, a small- Yes piece of you.
- 25:33Yes, it is.
- 25:34Like, y- there are so many other things that- Yeah like, make you you.
- 25:37Yeah, and honestly- Like, you know?
- 25:38that's changed a lot.
- 25:40So I think that me, my online persona has grown with me- Right because that used to be the case for me.
- 25:48And then I hate to say this, but, like, when I became a mom, I just kind of, I don't know if it's not something I'm as passionate about or if I just don't have as much time, but it feels like a very small part of me now.
- 26:02I don't wanna say I don't care or I don't like those things,'cause I certainly do, but I used to thrive off of that, like being a big part of my personality, and it's just not anymore, and I'm okay with that, you know?
- 26:13I don't shop, like, all the time like I used to, and I don't...
- 26:17I kind of am, like, done trying all the new things, you know?
- 26:21Like, I used to be like,"Oh, I c- I wanna try this and I wanna try that." And you get to a point, I think, just in life and in age where you just like what you like.
- 26:30And you're like,"I don't need to keep up with the trends." But it's also wor- but it's also working for you.
- 26:34Well- this, whatever this new phase that you're in- Yeah I feel like the blend of, like, your classic style- Yeah and, like, a few trendy pieces here and there I feel like is working for you.
- 26:44Well, it's p- it has taken- I like it a load of pressure off of me.
- 26:48I could say that.
- 26:49I used to be, like, more,"Okay, I need this.
- 26:52I need this, and I need to keep up with this." And, like, it wasn't that I was trying, it just was, like, what happens, right?
- 26:58Like, I like trends and I like fashion and I like to keep up and I like to know what's new and I like to be involved in that.
- 27:05Mm-hmm.
- 27:05I wasn't trying to be something I wasn't.
- 27:07You know what I mean?
- 27:08Mm-hmm.
- 27:08It's just that's not all of who I am anymore.
- 27:11Yeah.
- 27:11So I've scaled that part back tremendously.
- 27:14It feels like a huge weight off of me to not care about the newest trend, right?
- 27:21Like, you just see these fashion trends or beauty trends or whatever trend go through.
- 27:27It's like you just see it, filter through Instagram- Right where it's just everywhere.
- 27:31Well, the wor- I mean, the word trend means that it's gonna be followed up with something else very quickly after.
- 27:35Right, right.
- 27:35So if you don't have the time to invest to follow them and keep going- eh.
- 27:40You know?
- 27:40Like, it's, it's, yes.
- 27:41It's, like, very tiring.
- 27:42It's tiring.
- 27:42You'd rather spend your time doing something else.
- 27:44Yeah.
- 27:44Investing in something that, is working for you.
- 27:46Yeah.
- 27:46You know?
- 27:47And just also being at peace with, I don't have to be, like, the trendiest girl on Instagram and, like- And also still look really good if I miss a trend, like- That's okay it's okay.
- 27:57Like, I don't need those pieces.
- 27:59Like, I feel like I just don't have the mental space to care- Yeah right now.
- 28:05I, and I don't wanna say that I, like, don't have it at all.
- 28:08I just don't have it- Right the same way I used to have it.
- 28:10Right.
- 28:10Like- I w- I went away with Mila for spring break.
- 28:13Mm-hmm.
- 28:13And I said I shopped my closet.
- 28:15Oh, wait.
- 28:15'Cause I didn't buy anything new for the trip.
- 28:17I shopped my closet.
- 28:18I wore all old bathing suits.
- 28:19Mm-hmm.
- 28:20And first of all I think we need to just all be okay with wearing the same bathing suits over and over again.
- 28:24I know.
- 28:24We live in a very short season- Mm-hmm of summer here in Connecticut.
- 28:27It's only three months.
- 28:28You can wear those same bathing suits for those three months, and then the next year for three months, and then the next year for three months.
- 28:33Like, who- Like- People probably won't even remember it's, it's not even, they're not even, swimsuits aren't even really that tr- Mm they don't even have to be that trendy.
- 28:39One piece, two piece, they don't even have to be that trendy.
- 28:42So I shopped my closet, and I was so happy to share my looks.
- 28:45I couldn't link them for anybody because they were old.
- 28:47Yeah.
- 28:47But I was happy to, like, just re-wear my stuff.
- 28:49Mm-hmm.
- 28:50So then Saturday, Nick and I went on a last-minute dinner, and he was like,"Just throw something on and let's go." And I was like,"I don't have any throw something on clothes-" Ah"ready to go." So I spent all day Sunday going through my closet-'Cause that's a bad feeling looking through,'cause I was like,"I'm not going shopping right now." No.
- 29:06But I think if you know me, you think,"Oh my God, she's got so many clothes.
- 29:09She's got so many things," whatever.
- 29:11But, like, I sometimes don't have anything to wear either.
- 29:14That, isn't that the worst feeling in the world?
- 29:16I was like,"I have nothing to wear." Oh my God.
- 29:18So I wore black silk pants, and this black top, and a leather jacket, and pointy shoes.
- 29:23Nick's like,"I said we were going to grab a quick bite down the road.
- 29:27Why are you so dressed up?" I was like,"I don't have any in-between clothes." This is the throw-on outfit.
- 29:31This, it's either this or I put on my Alo Yoga set.
- 29:34Athleisure, I know.
- 29:36I f- There's, I don't have anything in the middle.
- 29:37You know what?
- 29:38And that's, that is funny-'cause I have felt like that too, and that's honestly when I lose it, is when I'm like, I don't have anything in between.
- 29:44I either have, like, I'm going to a sporting event with my child- Mm-hmm or I'm actually going to a workout class, or I have, like, really dressed up holiday outfits.
- 29:54Like, I have a holiday event every freakin' day of the week, and, like, there's not a lot in between.
- 30:00Good.
- 30:00Today's episode is brought to you by Ellen Piccolo, founder of The Connecticut Homemaker.
- 30:05Ellen doesn't just design beautiful spaces.
- 30:07She creates homes that actually function for real life.
- 30:11Think mud rooms that can handle the chaos, kitchens that flow with your day, and systems that make everything feel just a little bit easier.
- 30:17It is not about perfection.
- 30:18It is about creating a space that supports you in every season of your life.
- 30:22From toddlers to busy teens, busy mornings to slow nights, your home should evolve with you.
- 30:26Home should feel like a place where you walk in and exhale, but for so many of us, it becomes a space where we're constantly trying to keep up with instead of one that supports us.
- 30:37That's where Ellen Piccolo comes in.
- 30:38As the founder of The Homemaker, Ellen approaches design differently, blending elevated aesthetics with thoughtful, intentional function.
- 30:46Every space is considered, every detail has purpose.
- 30:50From refined livable kitchens to beautiful integrated storage that disappears into the design, she creates homes that feel effortless as they are functional, because true luxury isn't just how a home looks, it's how it is lived in.
- 31:03You can find Ellen Piccolo at The Homemaker on Instagram and tell her Pretty in Pink Again sent you.
- 31:10So how about like, all right, we wanna talk about something that, could cause tension between us- Oh or has caused tension between us- Hmm but we think we've maybe worked through.
- 31:22Hopefully.
- 31:22Or maybe we've just shut the fuck up.
- 31:25Hopefully we have worked through.
- 31:26So, but I wanted, I do wanna say this to you.
- 31:28What?
- 31:28I was at Sam's last week.
- 31:30Oh, God.
- 31:30No, where I do a lot of, whereas I'm sure you do a lot of your, like editing your podcast stuff or like creative stuff when you're sitting in the salon chair.
- 31:38Oh, yeah.
- 31:39Who doesn't get their best ideas- Oh, yeah when they're talking to their hairdresser?
- 31:42Right.
- 31:42Right.
- 31:42Like her and I, look, we could build an empire together- while we're sitting in that...
- 31:46It's like talking to the bartender over a few drinks.
- 31:48So true.
- 31:48Like so inspired.
- 31:49Anyways, but we were pinging back and forth and she goes,"Oh, what are you doing?" And I was like,"Oh, I'm just brain dumping for like an idea that I have." Yeah.
- 31:57And it reminded me that you never make me repeat my work.
- 32:00When I brain dump and I come to you with an idea- Hmm you've never said to me,"That's a bad idea.
- 32:06I don't like that idea." I've never said no.
- 32:08"We're not doing that." You never say no, and I was thinking, like I, you could make me repeat my work.
- 32:13But I feel like- But why would I make you?
- 32:14We're a partnership.
- 32:15I know, but if you didn't love the work that I, like the direction that I was going in- True you could say,"I don't like that direction." I think I just trust you so much, especially now.
- 32:24Right.
- 32:24It's coming na- Yeah it comes natural to you to trust me, but I'm saying that it could go a different way.
- 32:28Oh, it could go a different way.
- 32:29I could spend an hour on something and you could be like- Yeah"I don't care for that." You know, back to the drawing board, but you've never done that to me before.
- 32:35I think very early on when we were trying- We had some friction to get into a workflow- Mm-hmm there was friction because I am very stubborn and I like won't give up until I can do it, and I, there was just some areas that I just couldn't do.
- 32:49You just said it.
- 32:50You said that like you're a doer and you like to do everything, and- I've been in this business a long time, and I th- and you get to a point- Well, you are s- you're like that too, though.
- 33:01I am.
- 33:01That's a similarity of ours.
- 33:02But I also know when to let go of things, and when to let, when it makes sense to have someone else step in and do it.
- 33:10Right.
- 33:10Right.
- 33:11And that's a very live and learn business owning, content creation.
- 33:15You can't do everything.
- 33:17You physically can't do everything, but then it doesn't always make sense.
- 33:20Even if you could do it, it doesn't always make sense to time efficiently to do everything yourself.
- 33:26So there was friction between us at the beginning where I would be like,"First of all, let me handle this.
- 33:31I can get it done.
- 33:32You're telling me it's taking you all day to edit something." Right.
- 33:35"I could literally do it in my sleep, and you don't have to worry about it." And you're like,"No, you're, like, missing the point.
- 33:41I want to do it." Right.
- 33:43And there was friction.
- 33:44I was like,"Let it go." And you're like,"No, I wanna learn how to do this." And so there was tension between us and until we bo- I said,"You know what?
- 33:52If you wanna learn how to do it, then, like, learn how to do it.
- 33:55But it doesn't always mean that you have to do it." You know what I mean?
- 33:57Right.
- 33:58That's a g- a lesson.
- 33:59And it took us a while of us passing things back and forth, and then we finally both agreed to hire somebody because neither of us had the time or, like, mental bandwidth to keep up with all of the things that need to happen behind the scenes of this podcast in order for it to be any sort of successful and any s- any sort of, like, ability to even listen to it.
- 34:20We had to have somebody else come in and help us.
- 34:23But there was a lot of tension, I think, at the beginning, especially before we had a workflow.
- 34:28Right.
- 34:28I think that that's, like, our word, where we're like- Well, I think even before- we had a workflow we hired somebody to help be, like, a great addition to our workflow.
- 34:35Mm-hmm.
- 34:35We had figured out a workflow- Mm-hmm before we hired somebody.
- 34:38We both figured out, like, where our strengths were in this, where, you know, my weakness was in this, and where I could say,"You know what?
- 34:45You are so much better at this.
- 34:47I can confidently say you do this, and I'm gonna do something else." Yeah.
- 34:50But I think in the beginning when you're trying to do something, you wanna do everything.
- 34:53I- At least for me.
- 34:54I do.
- 34:54And I'm so stubborn.
- 34:55I think it's great.
- 34:56I think it's, like, a g- a good problem to have because I think that- it's a s- it's like learning skills is never a bad thing.
- 35:04Like, knowing how things work I remember listening to Conversations with Cam.
- 35:08I love Cameron Rogers.
- 35:09She's one of my favorite podcasters.
- 35:11Mm-hmm.
- 35:11I love her podcast, and I have tremendous respect for her- Mm-hmm as a content creator.
- 35:15And I remember she said that she w- was at the point where she had the ability to have someone else do the podcast for her and rejected that because she said,"What, am I gonna not know how to put out a podcast?
- 35:28Like, if I wanna h- put out a podcast-" I'm a podcaster"I wanna put out a po- I wanna put out a podcast." And so I do think that there's a good thing in knowing your skill and knowing it well, but then there's a point where you just have to, like, also let things go and, like, also know where you're needed and where your energy can serve things best.
- 35:47And that's a very, very hard, and also push and pull thing to do, and it's a growing pain, right?
- 35:55Mm-hmm.
- 35:55But I think we've worked through our workflow, and I'm very proud of, like, how far we've come.
- 36:04I feel like I listen to The Toast.
- 36:06I follow a ton of Instagrammers online that are duos, right?
- 36:11And I always find it fascinating.
- 36:14Like, how does that work?
- 36:15Do you each contribute in a specific way?
- 36:19Like- I know.
- 36:19Like, do you listen to Lipstick on the Rim with- Yes, yes Molly Sims and Emma Chamberlain?
- 36:23Yep.
- 36:23The podcast is called Lipstick on the Rim with Molly Sims.
- 36:26You're right.
- 36:26But if you listen- It's her and her co-host Emma Chamberlain is- Yes just as much a co- like, a, a host of that show as Molly Sims.
- 36:33Molly Sims, maybe because she has the bigger name- Yep maybe she gets that.
- 36:36Yep.
- 36:37But, like, if you listen- Yep Emma Chamberlain's, like, right in there with her.
- 36:42So yeah, so it's interesting, like- the dynamics when you try to dissect these dynamics of these, like, dual host podcasts.
- 36:48Yeah, and I like when- I don't have to dissect, and when they lift it and they're like,"This is how it works," like, I just, I feel like there's so many influencers where there's two influencers styling things, and it's like, how does that work?
- 37:01Like, you get campaigns, and, like, one takes a campaign and the other one's not involved in it, and I, I just find it fascinating.
- 37:08Well, you probably look- Like, I wanna know you probably look that way because of your, you know, history in content creation- Yeah, and I just find it- and doing solo campaigns.
- 37:16Yeah.
- 37:16So you're probably interested in how people split things.
- 37:18I'm like,"Huh, how does that work?" I'm also like, wow, I'm sure that makes it easier, because it's always easier when you have another brain to work with, when you have another set of hands to do things.
- 37:28It also, like, helps with your ability to, like, crank content out if you have someone else doing it with you.
- 37:33Yeah, but if you're in a right, good workflow, if you are too many cooks in the kitchen, and, like, when we first started and we couldn't get out of our own way- Yep then it could really slow you down- It can'cause you have to run something b- you have to run all your creative by somebody else.
- 37:45Yeah, you can't just, like, on the fly do something, make a decision, all of the things.
- 37:49So I just find it very interesting to hear.
- 37:53That's why I think I, I'm, I wanna talk about that today, because I just think it's interesting I don't know, like, behind the scenes of a duo or a group or anything.
- 38:02Right.
- 38:02So what are the behind the scenes of our duo?
- 38:05What would you tell our listeners, then?
- 38:06So we have, our studio is at T's house.
- 38:10So- Tita, I guess our workflow, T does a lot of like the prep work upfront.
- 38:15Like I feel like you do a lot of the like scheduling of the guests.
- 38:18Well, I feel like I'm always in work mode now.
- 38:20'Cause I'm always thinking- You got turned it on, yeah I'm always think- but this is in the best way possible.
- 38:25Like I'm always thinking like,"Oh my gosh, this is a really interesting story." Mm-hmm.
- 38:28I don't think just I should be limited to hearing this story.
- 38:31I think that like our audience should hear this story.
- 38:34Yeah, you have like your feelers out all the time.
- 38:36So I'm always like,"Oh my God, you would be such an interesting guest," or,"This is such a cool angle.
- 38:40Would you be willing to share your story- Mm-hmm on our podcast?" And a lot of times, like 30 something times, the answer has been,"Yes.
- 38:47Sure, I would love to." And then they think they're coming on for one thing, and then I'm like,"No, but I want it to be centered in rediscovery, in women, in evolution." And you know, like I want, you know, that's what Christina and I want at its core.
- 39:00You like, you hone the topic, right?
- 39:02Yeah.
- 39:02Like really well, and then you work on a lot of the, the flow of the episode and the goals of the episode.
- 39:10Yeah.
- 39:10And even if I come up with an idea, I always pass that to you because even if I'm the one that's like I was able to secure a guest or you know what I think would be a really amazing topic, this.
- 39:22Mm-hmm.
- 39:22I still ping it back to you, and then you finesse the flow, and the guide, and the questions, and the goal of the episode, and the angle, and the theme, and all of that.
- 39:32Yeah.
- 39:32And like you then come up with this guide that we kind of go off of that our Instagram people would probably see us like look down at our phones, and that's what we're referring to is kind of to stay on track.
- 39:43So you do a ton of that upfront.
- 39:45Mm-hmm.
- 39:46Then we like come in, we sit down, we record the episode.
- 39:49We have the equipment at your house.
- 39:51You th- handle a lot of the like recording logistics- Right like getting us set up.
- 39:54So when it, when it goes wrong, it's also my fault.
- 39:56No, it's both of us.
- 39:58But and then from there, I take a lot of the like back end.
- 40:03Yeah, you do the post editing stuff.
- 40:04The like, the post ed- so like the podcast has been recorded.
- 40:06I'm gonna finesse it, make sure everything sounds okay.
- 40:09I add the music.
- 40:11I add the ad if there's a sponsorship of the episode.
- 40:15I distribute it to all of the different net- podcast networks that pick it up that you listen to the episode on.
- 40:22And then we kind of both handle like some of the social media, although we do have our wonderful third Pippa, Angela, who helps us a ton with like behind the scenes stuff and all of our social media.
- 40:33But that's kind of like our workflow, and it took us a while to get to that point.
- 40:38Right.
- 40:38We can both do each other's jobs if we had to.
- 40:41Yes.
- 40:41But it's nice that we don't have to.
- 40:43Yes, and now it's, I think it's very efficient.
- 40:45But also allows, like I think when we started, we did an episode early on about like type A, type B.
- 40:50Mm-hmm.
- 40:50I think it's pretty obvious which one of us- is which person.
- 40:52And when I say a type B, like it's not that I'm a sloppy person.
- 40:55You're not.
- 40:56I just want- To get it done, and sometimes my creative gets stumped when I think about, like, the perfection that has to be handed in.
- 41:04Yeah.
- 41:04But if, but having this workflow, I'm able to be creative, ask the questions, get the whole story out, and then you can have it aesthetically look right, sound like- Fine-tune it ha- fine-tune it, so I think it's worked out well- Yeah to have this be the flow.
- 41:19Yes.
- 41:20And I don't even know if we ever really talked about it before until right now, but, like, that's really our personalities and how they've come to light in this podcast.
- 41:28Yeah, and also y- when you're part of a duo or part of any sort of group that's, like, hoping to achieve a goal, you know, you're, like, working towards something, it's very helpful to know what everyone's responsibilities are so that you know what's going on, like, what your tasks are to complete this.
- 41:44Right.
- 41:44And so at the beginning, you said"There's too many cooks in the kitchen." There were.
- 41:48We were both trying to do each other's jobs.
- 41:50Sometimes when you're both trying to do something, you, you can't get out of your own way, like you said, and that was happening to both of us, where it's like if we're both trying to do this, if we were both trying to make guides and compete with each other about what the epis- it's like, no, we got to a point where I just trust you, and I'm like,"You go, run with this," and, like, I'll be happy wi- you know what I mean?
- 42:10I know what the outcome will be because I know that we'll get to where we're going.
- 42:14Right, right.
- 42:15And it- We may or may not have white noise in the background.
- 42:18Who's to say?
- 42:20Who's to say?
- 42:21Stay tuned.
- 42:22What about any life updates?
- 42:23'Cause I said we've had so many new listeners, which is really exciting, and even just our old Pippa gals, like, anything, I feel like sometimes when we have, like, guest after guest and we haven't had, like, a chance to, like, update anything- Yeah like, anything going on that you wanna share?
- 42:38Life lately, so- Yeah, life lately okay, so my oldest is gonna be 13 in a few weeks.
- 42:43Insane.
- 42:43And my youngest is seven, and life lately is busy.
- 42:48Busy.
- 42:48But, like, busy because there's a lot of them, busy because they're in activities.
- 42:53Mm-hmm.
- 42:53Busy because everybody's healthy, feeling well- Yeah and, like, just doing- Yeah a lot of things.
- 42:58Good busy.
- 42:59Good busy.
- 43:00What I will say is not good is that Nick and I don't really get to hang out.
- 43:05We haven't, like, hung out lately.
- 43:07Mm-hmm.
- 43:07Like, we used to do, we used to get sitters a lot when they were younger and go out.
- 43:10I had, like, 10 babysitters, in my Rolodex when they were younger, and I would just call one, and one would come over every so often, and we would just go out.
- 43:19And now I cannot get out of my own way and- Is it because of the busyness?
- 43:22pull the trigger and have one come.
- 43:24And I think it's because of the busyness, but also, like, my kids are so much more needy of my face, and I, again, I don't wanna sound advicey, but, like, w- they didn't care as much when they were younger, and as, I feel like as they're getting older, it's getting harder- It's getting harder Which is crazy I feel like it was easier- Yeah when they were younger.
- 43:45We were just watching this movie last night, um, oh, God, it's like, no, it was a series, Margo's got money problems.
- 43:51Okay.
- 43:51And she, and it's real- it's, like, a funny show on, um, Prime, and she is a single mom.
- 43:56And she's like,"The baby's crying all night with colic and up all night." And Nick was like,"Do you remember that?" And I said,"I do, but, like, that to me looks easier than what I'm doing right now- Wow with the four of them." And it's just like, it's, like, a busy time in my life right now.
- 44:11Yeah.
- 44:11You're like, I mean, it's, you're like a manager- Like, my day- of everything is gonna start- Yeah in 20 minutes when this podcast is over, and we have, like, so much stuff to do.
- 44:20You're, I know- Like, it's a busy season you always would say that your day would start at, like, 2:00 or 3:00, and you're, like, running around until 10:00.
- 44:28And to me, that does sound very exhausting.
- 44:31Like, I can't- Yeah, it's a busy- My kids are little it's a busy season for me right now.
- 44:34But other than that, other than it being just, like, very busy- Mm-hmm and them requiring, they have a ton of questions.
- 44:40They ask me so many questions.
- 44:42When we were at lunch on Friday- Yep we were talking about- Yeah how two of our kids are very curious.
- 44:45Yep.
- 44:46And we have to be- You have to be on for the questions prepared with answers.
- 44:49Prepared.
- 44:49Whoo.
- 44:50And sometimes I'm not prepared, and I'm like,"I can't talk right now." I know.
- 44:55I was telling you off air, but we just started dabbling into, like, activities, right?
- 45:00Youth sports.
- 45:01They're starting.
- 45:02Youth sports.
- 45:03My daughter is, is two.
- 45:04She's been enrolled in gymnastics f- all year.
- 45:07That's just, like, an activity to get her and I out of the house.
- 45:10But we enrolled Leo in T-ball- Mm-hmm this year, so it was his first season doing T-ball.
- 45:16And- His first bout of, uh- Yeah organized sports.
- 45:20Yes, not just, like, we're showing up to get energy out.
- 45:23You know what I mean?
- 45:23Right, right, right.
- 45:23Like that type of thing.
- 45:24We're here to play a game.
- 45:25We're on a team.
- 45:25Yes, and- We're wearing matching uniforms.
- 45:27This is a thing.
- 45:27Yes.
- 45:28And so it's like they got the matching hat and the matching jersey, and they're playing a game.
- 45:34He's four.
- 45:35And it was honestly a little bit more intense than I thought.
- 45:41And we also had a little bit of anxiety going into it and anxiety afterwards about performance.
- 45:49Oh, my gosh.
- 45:50And it made me really sad.
- 45:51I was like,"Wow, We're already here, like we're four, and we're already worried about our performance- of w- of how we did at the game- with other four and five-year-olds.
- 46:03Like, it just, it seemed a little much for me.
- 46:06So I don't know.
- 46:07I kind of feel like we're, I'm just like dipping my toe into that world, and I hear all of you guys that are a little bit ahead with your kids, and I'm like, wow, this is, like this is really intense.
- 46:18Like you- Yeah, but I love that you were at that game and you weren't adding to it and adding to the anxiety.
- 46:24Yeah.
- 46:24Well- Because I do think that that you could have gone in that direction too.
- 46:28You could have done a,"You're fine.
- 46:30Forget it.
- 46:31It's just a game.
- 46:32You're only four.
- 46:33It's not a big deal." But instead you like, were like,"Wait a minute, this is like a lot- This is a lot for, for you.
- 46:39Like this is a lot.
- 46:40Yeah.
- 46:40You know?
- 46:40Like you poor thing.
- 46:41Let's- Yeah let's, you know- Yeah.
- 46:44Let's figure this out circle around this and figure this out together.
- 46:46Yeah.
- 46:46I needed to do a little bit more hand-holding, and I needed to be a little bit more involved because- Right I just don't feel like we were there yet.
- 46:54You know?
- 46:54There was too much pressure on him.
- 46:56Mm-hmm.
- 46:56And it made me sad.
- 46:58It just was a moment where I, I got very sad, and I was like, This is supposed to be fun.
- 47:03Mm-hmm.
- 47:03You know what I mean?
- 47:04And like w- the, there, the environment is already full of pressure.
- 47:09Right.
- 47:09And I'm kind of of the mind of like you have your whole life to feel like that.
- 47:14What I remembered being involved in activities is that- fun.
- 47:19See- And- I don't remember fun.
- 47:21I remember the pressure.
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:23And so I think that it's amazing that you remembered the fun- Mm and that's what you want him to remember too.
- 47:28Yeah.
- 47:29'Cause I don't remember, like, I don't remember looking back on my childhood playing sports and thinking like,"That was so fun." I should say that I didn't play competitive sports though.
- 47:36I remember thinking like, that was so scary.
- 47:38Like, I had, was, I was riddled with anxiety about it.
- 47:41I was part of a dance team.
- 47:42I was part of a theater program.
- 47:43I did do some- Yeah, but dance team, that's competition It is, but I remember it being fun.
- 47:47I don't remember it being stressful.
- 47:50I remember loving it.
- 47:51I loved being part of theater.
- 47:53I did play I played softball one season.
- 47:55Like, I did some, but it was fun.
- 47:57It was like, to learn.
- 47:58Right.
- 47:58And it wasn't so much pressure.
- 48:00It felt intense for me, but it might have just been that I'm, like, so far removed from this, and we talk about how sports has been.
- 48:07It went from being rec to, like, very, very competitive.
- 48:11Mm-hmm.
- 48:11And I just feel like it felt a little early- Yeah for that, but I felt like I got a taste of it.
- 48:16Right.
- 48:16And I was like,"Holy shit." I-"I don't know if I'm ready for this-" My, um- parenting" my middle sister, Nicole, played softball.
- 48:23She played the competitive softball, in, like, a travel team.
- 48:26Mm-hmm.
- 48:26And her and my dad traveled every weekend from when she was in, like, seventh grade to high school.
- 48:31Maybe even younger.
- 48:32Maybe they started in fifth grade.
- 48:34And we were on the phone the other day, and she was like,"You know, like, I don't play softball anymore." Yeah.
- 48:38"It's not even a part of my life.
- 48:39It hasn't been a part of my life for so long." Yeah.
- 48:42And I said,"So when you look back, are you happy you did it?" Mm-hmm.
- 48:45And she said,"I am so happy I did it, because even though I'm not actively playing softball anymore, I had really good memories." Right.
- 48:52"It taught me really good time management skills." Yeah.
- 48:55"It taught me how to be responsible,'cause I would go with Dad, so Dad wasn't washing my uniform or packing my lunch.
- 48:59Like, it taught me all of these other things." So I think when you're looking at youth sports, you have to look at the whole picture, and ultimately, like, you want your kid to be having fun and have good- Memories memories.
- 49:12Yes, I agree.
- 49:13Yeah.
- 49:13It's wild.
- 49:13And I think it's good to kinda, like, your poor son was not making a good memory that day.
- 49:17No.
- 49:18He was like,"Ah." But since we had, we went back, and we had another day and a d- a little bit of a different experience.
- 49:24But I don't, I still don't know how I feel about it.
- 49:26Okay.
- 49:27All right.
- 49:27Well, you're, well, it's live.
- 49:29It's coming to you live.
- 49:30Yeah.
- 49:30I, that was- So you may, you may have to marinate on that a little bit.
- 49:33Yeah, I have to marinate on my thoughts about it.
- 49:34But your gut is probably like,"No, I don't like this." Yeah, and I also think I have, it was, like, a moment where I was like, oh, we're in this next level of parenting, you know?
- 49:45Mm-hmm.
- 49:45We've been in baby land, and then toddler land, and I'm like, now we're in this different, you know, like, activities where it, and it's, it's different.
- 49:54And then there's other- It's a different animal parents involved.
- 49:55Yes.
- 49:55And you hear other parents.
- 49:57Yes.
- 49:57Like, when Joseph first started hockey- I was baffled that other parents would yell at the players.
- 50:05I'm like,"You know that their parents are here somewhere.
- 50:07Like, this kid's just not on the ice.
- 50:09Like, he didn't just get dropped off here." Yeah, the intensity.
- 50:11Like, m- most likely- Yeah this seven-year-old has a grandma or grandpa or a mom- Yeah and dad somewhere in this stand.
- 50:17Yeah.
- 50:17And you can just freely yell, like,"You suck, number 10," like, but it happens all the time.
- 50:22Like, the level of intensity, you almost become numb to it- Yeah because it's so crazy.
- 50:28I have a lot of thoughts, and I think this would be a r- actually a really fun episode to talk to- Mm-hmm somebody about.
- 50:34Maybe if you Pippas know anybody that we could talk to that would, like, be a good third person in here.
- 50:39Mm-hmm.
- 50:39It doesn't have to be, like, a coach or anything, but it may- something.
- 50:42Well, like a sports psychologist?
- 50:44Something.
- 50:44I was on, like, a rant with some of my girlfriends over the weekend just because I was like, it's the millennial parents doing this, running this shit.
- 50:54What is wrong with us?
- 50:55We're that competitive and we always talk about, I don't, I'm gonna get myself on, like, a soapbox.
- 50:59No, it's okay.
- 51:00But, like- Tell me we are always on this whole, like, generational trauma rants about what was done to us.
- 51:07And, we have all this anxiety, and we're dealing with all this shit now as millennials, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 51:12And we're always just ranting about what was done to us, and this is what we're doing to our kids.
- 51:18Mm-hmm.
- 51:19It's too fucking intense.
- 51:20I'm sorry.
- 51:20Mm-hmm.
- 51:20Like, it's too intense.
- 51:21Mm-hmm.
- 51:21Like, so I have thoughts about it.
- 51:24Cool.
- 51:24And I would love to talk to somebody- I wanna hear your thoughts about it'cause I got it and I've heard glimmers and I, so it's not like, you know, but I saw it a little bit, and I was like,"This is all millennial parents." But you can, you're speaking from experience now.
- 51:35You saw it firsthand over the weekend.
- 51:37Yeah, and there wasn't like- You know?
- 51:37I saw anything wrong.
- 51:39It was just not an environment that I was like, I was just, like, a little, like, oof.
- 51:43Okay.
- 51:43Yeah.
- 51:43Wow.
- 51:43Yeah.
- 51:44Wow.
- 51:45It was just a little wow.
- 51:46Yeah.
- 51:46Me, I took, I went, so Mila, she's a therapist, and I've been seeing her.
- 51:50M- Mila Chan.
- 51:51Without Mila there.
- 51:52Yeah.
- 51:52I've been seeing her.
- 51:52Yeah.
- 51:53So I went last week, and I said to w- we went on this whole other tangent about how I'm afraid of I'm raising lazy kids- Mm-hmm because they won't bring up the trash, and they won't do this, and they won't do that.
- 52:04And she was like,"I have to stop you for a second.
- 52:07I think your generation is too intense." We are too intense.
- 52:11And she said it, she didn't maybe say it exactly like that.
- 52:14Well, we are.
- 52:14But she, I really much appreciated what she was trying to say.
- 52:17She's like,"So your kid doesn't bring up the trash can.
- 52:20It doesn't mean he's gonna be lazy." Mm-hmm.
- 52:22You, your generation needs to stop thinking that- People are lazy Mm-hmm It, they're, they're not.
- 52:27They're just not running themselves ragged the way you are We're just output, the output is nuts.
- 52:32Right.
- 52:32And the, like, we're not letting kids be kids.
- 52:35That's the vibe that I'm getting.
- 52:36You know what I'm saying?
- 52:37Like, I just think it, it's very intense.
- 52:39I could be wrong, and I might have people come at me for that point of view, for the very little point of view that I got, but that's the vibe that I'm getting, and I think- I think you need to go- we need to relax I think you need to go with your gut.
- 52:51And I think that you need to appreciate, I appreciate that.
- 52:54Yeah.
- 52:55I think if you walk away from something like that, like It wasn't eh.
- 52:59It was just- Oh, it wasn't?
- 53:00Okay.
- 53:00It wasn't eh.
- 53:02It was just wow.
- 53:04That's how I felt.
- 53:06So that's that.
- 53:09Okay.
- 53:09Hang on, I'm just texting the boys to grab the girls.
- 53:11I know, and I...
- 53:11Okay.
- 53:11So let's do a, a couple more, like, rapid fire questions- Mm-hmm maybe followed by a listener question or two that we've- Mm-hmm gotten in our DMs, and then we gotta wrap it up because- Mm-hmm we've been recording all day.
- 53:25Yeah.
- 53:26And hopefully this makes, hopefully this makes it out.
- 53:29Oh, my God.
- 53:29Um- I don't even understand what is something that we've recorded that we didn't release?
- 53:34Do you remember?
- 53:36Oh, Leah's episode.
- 53:38Well, we've had a few, but yeah, we had Leah Miceli back on, our favorite Pilates queen, and she was actually on to talk about her pregnancy and how exciting that is, and then she, and then she was- And all things nutrition gonna talk about nutrition, and she was completely understanding because she's a content creator and films herself all the time, and she's like,"Do you know how many times I've recorded an entire workout and it hasn't recorded?" And we were like,"Oh my God, please don't hate us." But she's gonna come back on'cause that was one.
- 54:06And then we did have another one that we recorded- We ran out of storage, remember?
- 54:09and it actually...
- 54:10Yes, but remember how happy we were that it actually- Yeah,'cause we re-recorded it and it was better we didn't even love it, and we were like, we knew that we weren't loving it while we were recording it, and it didn't record.
- 54:20And so then we were like,"Okay, we're gonna, like, rework this a little bit," and I think it was one about anxiety or something.
- 54:27It was one of, one of the ones- that it was just the two of us.
- 54:29It was very fitting.
- 54:30But we re- we re-recorded that one, and we were much happier with, like, the direction.
- 54:35Yeah, it performed well.
- 54:36And it performed really well.
- 54:38What's something that could actually cause tension between us?
- 54:43I think sometimes I'm more comfortable talking about one thing and you're not.
- 54:46Yes.
- 54:47And then you wanna talk about something, and I'm like,"Eh, I feel like that's dumb." Yeah.
- 54:51You know?
- 54:51Yeah.
- 54:51Like when we just don't wanna talk about- Yes the same things.
- 54:53Because we don't.
- 54:54Or I want to elaborate in one area and you don't.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:56But we can't, we can't do that.
- 54:58Because in a conversation- You need it to flow if you're having just, you're have, if you're having just a normal conversation, one person can just be quiet.
- 55:05Yeah.
- 55:05And the other person can let it go.
- 55:07Yeah.
- 55:07And vice versa, but when we're recording a podcast, we have to- It has to flow we ha- it has to flow.
- 55:11Yeah.
- 55:11And there has to be both points of view.
- 55:13Yep, yep, yep.
- 55:13And I think that can definitely cause conflict.
- 55:16Yep.
- 55:16Right?
- 55:16Yep.
- 55:17Or tension.
- 55:17I guess it could.
- 55:18Yeah, friction, tension.
- 55:19Yeah, I totally agree.
- 55:21Um- What do you think?
- 55:22No, I would totally agree with that.
- 55:24Yeah.
- 55:24What about what version of me do people see that isn't fully accurate?
- 55:30So I, I don't know, I think it's coming through Christina loves to eat.
- 55:33I do.
- 55:33She loves, she loves humor.
- 55:35I do.
- 55:36She loves a joke.
- 55:37If you read our text threads, like your texting is so funny.
- 55:42It is?
- 55:42Like, yes, it is.
- 55:44It's so funny.
- 55:44Like, you just have, like, the best- I'm a bad texter, but when I a- when I text- When you are- it comes through when you are, uh, in a mood- Ugh, which is a lot and you are texting, especially with Ange- Yeah.
- 55:55you, you go for it, and I, and you are very punchy and very funny.
- 55:59Ange is my ride or die, and I can say anything in front of her, so she does get the best version of me, so that's very true.
- 56:05Yeah.
- 56:06I feel like that.
- 56:07Th- that would be, like, my th- like, things about you.
- 56:09Okay.
- 56:09I like that.
- 56:10That you, that, uh, your humor comes through here.
- 56:13Oh, well, thank you.
- 56:14That's nice.
- 56:14And it's one of my favorite things about you.
- 56:16Oh, thank you.
- 56:17I feel like I've been doing a little bit more of the humor on my page too.
- 56:20It's my favorite.
- 56:21And it's been, yeah, it feels very organic to me, which I fe- feel like other people have been saying,"Well, that's interesting," and I'm like,"Well, then you don't know me." No.
- 56:31You know?
- 56:31Yeah, exactly.
- 56:32Exactly.
- 56:33Yeah.
- 56:33It's like what you- Yeah should be doing.
- 56:35Yes.
- 56:35The, I like acting, I like lip syncing, I like being silly, and it feels very me, and so if you think it doesn't feel very me, then you don't know me- Right very well.
- 56:47How about, I have one for you.
- 56:49Is there anything that you're irrationally annoyed by?
- 56:53Irrationally?
- 56:53Irrationally.
- 56:56Everything is irrational when you're annoyed, right?
- 56:59No.
- 57:00I don't know if I get...
- 57:01I do get- That's- fired up, but I don't get as fired- Yeah, that's actually not a good question for you.
- 57:05I don't get as fired up.
- 57:07That'd be a better question for you.
- 57:08I don't get as fired up, I think, like, as, like, Nick, my husband.
- 57:12Oh, I get...
- 57:12And like me.
- 57:13And like you.
- 57:14Yeah.
- 57:14Actually, the What?
- 57:16the other day, Nick comes in and he spilled his coffee in the car.
- 57:20He had an open container of coffee- Yeah and he spilled it in the car.
- 57:22Now, I bring an open container of coffee every morning- Ugh in the car.
- 57:26Nick doesn't.
- 57:26You pick me up in, with a open container and I'm about to have a heart attack.
- 57:30And so Nick spilled his hot coffee in the car, so he comes in the house and he's reciting these mantras to himself.
- 57:36And I go- It's not a big deal"What?" Don't ruin the day.
- 57:38"What is going on with you?" And he's like, I decided that when something bad happens, like I spill my coffee, I'm gonna tell myself three good things that happened." And so he's telling himself,"At least I still have hot coffee to drink.
- 57:49At least I'm still at home.
- 57:50At least it didn't get on my pants." Yeah, because he probably wants to scream and throw the thing.
- 57:55And I go,"If I spilled my coffee, I wouldn't even give it a second thought." I wish I could live like that.
- 58:01Or, or a first thought.
- 58:03Like, is my brain okay?
- 58:04Oh, I would be like,"Of course this happens to me." This is how I'm gonna start my day?
- 58:12How am I gonna recover from this?
- 58:14That's how, what would go through my mind just that way.
- 58:16So let's ping that question back to you.
- 58:17No,'cause I will be here- That's my mom- No that's my mom.
- 58:19We don't have time.
- 58:20We could have done that if our first episode recorded- but I don't have time today, so no, I can't sit here.
- 58:26What about something you judge but shouldn't?
- 58:29Sometimes I judge how people spend their time.
- 58:31Ooh.
- 58:31And I know I shouldn't.
- 58:32Like how, like what grinds your gears?
- 58:34Sometimes I judge how people spend their time.
- 58:35What would make you judgy?
- 58:37What time spent would make you judgy?
- 58:40Or side eye I think, I think because I'm so, maybe, and I don't try to be, but because I'm, like, productivity driven- You're, like, so busy and I'm busy, sometimes when other people aren't as busy, but then they, like, are like,"Oh, but I can't make time for that," I'm like,"Buck up." Yeah.
- 58:57Make time, bitch.
- 58:59Like, are you kidding?
- 59:00If I can figure this out, you can too.
- 59:03Honestly, sometimes I think the busier you are- And that's mean to say because, like, like, my therapist said to me, like, that's...
- 59:09We had this whole talk on this last week.
- 59:11Here we go, now I'm getting on my soapbox.
- 59:13We had this whole talk last week.
- 59:14She said it's not fair, and I told you this already.
- 59:17Yeah, you did tell me this.
- 59:18It is not fair that you put the same standards on your peers that you put on yourself.
- 59:22Mm-hmm.
- 59:22That's not fair.
- 59:23Mm-hmm.
- 59:23That would be like somebody saying to you that you have to do things my way.
- 59:26Right.
- 59:27Like, that's not fair.
- 59:27And you wouldn't like that.
- 59:28And I wouldn't like that.
- 59:29No.
- 59:29But sometimes I get a little judgey how pe- Mm people spend their time when I don't actually think they're that busy.
- 59:36Interesting.
- 59:37So.
- 59:37But I do think sometimes the more busy you are, the better you are at time managing yourself- I agree because it's just something that, like, almost becomes second nature'cause it has to.
- 59:48Mm-hmm.
- 59:48So you're better about, like, fitting littler things in- Mm-hmm because you're, like, so regimented and so busy.
- 59:55I almost think when you have too much time, that's what happens to me, I go, like, paralyzed where I'm like,"I don't even know where to start." So I almost do better on busy days than I do- Mm-hmm on non-busy days.
- 1:00:06Right.
- 1:00:06Because I feel like I'm more productive on busy days when, and then I get absolutely nothing done on days that are free, right?
- 1:00:13Right.
- 1:00:13Right.
- 1:00:13You know what I mean?
- 1:00:14No, you make- So I to- I agree with you that's a good counterargument to that.
- 1:00:16I agree with you.
- 1:00:17I agree with you.
- 1:00:18Yeah.
- 1:00:18What is your thing?
- 1:00:20Something I judge but shouldn't.
- 1:00:22She's got the judgey eyes right now.
- 1:00:25Um- Is she gonna tell us?
- 1:00:25I feel like, no, I will say I feel like I have become way less judgmental than I used to be before having kids and You've said that, like,"I have no business to judge anything." Yeah.
- 1:00:34I have no business judging how anybody does anything right now.
- 1:00:39I, and I feel like I'm a lot more compassionate and a lot more like, they must have something going on," you know?
- 1:00:45Like, I give people a lot more, like, free passes than I used to.
- 1:00:48Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:48I used to be, uh, not only hard on myself, and I still think I'm hard on myself, but I used to be hard on a lot of people d- in my own mind.
- 1:00:56So I think I give- Of course in your own mind.
- 1:00:57Yeah.
- 1:00:57You wouldn't, you're not gonna- Obviously cross the barrier and be confrontational.
- 1:01:01No,'cause I don't like to be confrontational all the time, but, like, in my own mind- Now, now it's getting weird.
- 1:01:06No, I- But in your mind, you're having a full out battle full on argument and full on judgment.
- 1:01:11And then I, but since I feel like the la- the last, like, handful of years and since just going through a lot of stuff on my own, I think, like, infertility and mental health struggles of my own since having kids and stuff, like, I kinda feel like I'm like, I'm a no- I am in no way, shape, or form- I wish I could get- approved to judge anybody I wish I can get to that point with the time management thing.
- 1:01:30Yeah.
- 1:01:31But I'm not quite there yet.
- 1:01:33You will.
- 1:01:33Admitting it is the first step.
- 1:01:35You will.
- 1:01:35Okay, so I was checking, we've been checking the Pippa DM box, and q- couple questions for, like, each of us.
- 1:01:43I think because you've shown so much, like, your, like, day in the life videos, right?
- 1:01:47Like, you show how insanely busy your life is.
- 1:01:49Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:50So somebody asked,"Do you ever feel like you're being pulled in a million directions, and how do you actually handle that?" So, that's a good question.
- 1:01:58So I feel like I have a good foundation of mental health, so I'm able to do these things.
- 1:02:05I think that couple of years ago I didn't allow for such a full plate because I was mentally unstable.
- 1:02:11And I say that with a little bit of, like, laughter, but it's really not funny.
- 1:02:15I was always spiraling and thinking that, like, doomsday was coming, and that I couldn't handle things, and I would have a knot in my stomach like I couldn't get it done.
- 1:02:24And I think I built a little bit of confidence by doing these things.
- 1:02:27And resilience too.
- 1:02:28Yeah.
- 1:02:28Yeah, and I did it enough times that I was like,"All right.
- 1:02:32It's gonna be okay." Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:33"I can do this." And then I, from the, I don't know, I built some trust in, like, some allowing friends to carpool with my kids.
- 1:02:41Yep.
- 1:02:41I let my husband help me.
- 1:02:42You, like, accept help.
- 1:02:43Yep.
- 1:02:43I accepted some help.
- 1:02:45And I, yes, I'm busy with my kids, but I don't feel as if I'm being pulled in a million different directions.
- 1:02:52I feel like I'm just driving in, uh, in several directions, but, like, that's just- quite literally what I'm doing.
- 1:02:58I think from an outsider- I don't feel the pull as much perspective, I think that you have, like especially over the last few years, you have, like really allowed yourself to take care of yourself.
- 1:03:08Yeah.
- 1:03:08I think that, that has helped you too.
- 1:03:10I think with your anxiety, with just probably feeling pulled in a mil- like, you have, I don't wanna say put yourself first,'cause I don't think that you do.
- 1:03:19But like, I think that you've just allowed, you know what helps you.
- 1:03:24That's exactly right.
- 1:03:25Like, you know- I know what works now I need to do this so that I'm at a better version of myself for this.
- 1:03:31Right.
- 1:03:31And- another piece is that I would have anxiety if I like knew I w- had a lot coming up.
- 1:03:38Now I just know I have a lot coming up, and after I get it all done, I'm gonna be kinda wiped the next day, and then the next day needs to be like a chill day.
- 1:03:47Right.
- 1:03:47I can't burn the candle at both ends.
- 1:03:49Right.
- 1:03:49And so- That's a good, that's really good advice I think I can, I think I can do a lot- Mm-hmm and I think I can do a lot because I have like a better foundation- Yep for- Yep it all.
- 1:03:57Yeah.
- 1:03:58That was a really good question, and like I'm sure- Yeah, good question a lot of people feel like that.
- 1:04:01I think as people's kids are getting ur- like older and older, and like you're realizing all the things we talked about, like there's so much on everyone's plates.
- 1:04:09Like, that's such a relatable question.
- 1:04:11I'm sure so many people feel like that.
- 1:04:12And like I feel stretched thin with two, and I always look at you like,"I don't know how you have double the kids that I do." I can't imagine how stretched like I would be at that point, you know?
- 1:04:23Yeah, but I w- I felt more un- unstable when I had two kids- Mm-hmm than I do now with four.
- 1:04:28Wild.
- 1:04:28That's so crazy.
- 1:04:29I just somehow at this current moment- Mm-hmm I know I shared this earlier, I'm just trying to figure out like- Mm how I'm gonna get out of dodge with my husband.
- 1:04:38Like, stay tuned.
- 1:04:41Okay, so, uh, this is interesting.
- 1:04:44So I think our listeners also follow you closely on social media.
- 1:04:48Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:48So this question is, what has made you lean into mom humor on your social media and a little bit less fashion-centric?
- 1:04:59Oh we kind of talked about it, but I guess we didn't talk about the why.
- 1:05:03Yeah.
- 1:05:03But I ju- so I did f- I had felt a little bit disconnected from fashion content.
- 1:05:10It's not that it's not a part of my life, which we talked about, it's just that it's not, like, a humongous focal point, or, like, there's just so many other pillars that are more important to me.
- 1:05:20Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:20And it kind of became, like, the background of, like, who I actually am.
- 1:05:23Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:24And I still like to get dressed and all that, it just wa- it was feeling a little bit fraudulent.
- 1:05:29I can't explain what it was feeling like.
- 1:05:31And I did talk about this in a couple of other episodes, but, like, woven in.
- 1:05:36But I just it, I wasn't feeling like myself making that content.
- 1:05:41Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:41Like, I was, like, spinning around my room in, like, dresses and stuff, and I'm like,"Where the fuck am I going?" Like, I'm not...
- 1:05:48Like, it's like, six dresses for this, and it's like I, like, I don't, like, it just- I'm not even going to this Yeah.
- 1:05:53Like, it ju- it was really feeling like the content that was working for me for so long was, like, not working for me anymore.
- 1:06:00And I felt like I couldn't do it, like, where it felt like me.
- 1:06:05And I was, so I did take a little bit of a pause, and I ha- and I feel like this podcast helped me so much, like, identify what I wanted to do next.
- 1:06:15And I honestly debated quitting and just doing this podcast, but I was also like, no, I feel like I've built this.
- 1:06:21Like, I need a refresh for it to feel like me.
- 1:06:24And I've always done humor.
- 1:06:26Like, if you look back at my account, like, probably since Reels came out, I- I've done humor.
- 1:06:31You did a lot during COVID too.
- 1:06:32I wove, I did a lot during COVID.
- 1:06:33Do you remember?
- 1:06:34I just love watching your stuff during COVID.
- 1:06:35I did.
- 1:06:35I would always do, like, lip syncs and little skits- Mm-hmm and dancing and all that stuff.
- 1:06:39You're good at them.
- 1:06:40And I loved it, and it, it made me feel very happy.
- 1:06:43And so when I started, like, leaning into that a little bit more, even when I would dabble it resonated so well with my audience.
- 1:06:50Like, it, in terms of views, in terms of engagement, and then e- most importantly, in terms of, like, how I felt doing it.
- 1:06:57Like, I was like,"This gives me, like, a high.
- 1:07:00I feel great doing it.
- 1:07:01I feel light.
- 1:07:02I don't feel like there's pressure.
- 1:07:03I'm not stressed about it." And so I was like,"Why am I not making that the primary focal point of my content with, like, some fashion and beauty woven in?
- 1:07:13It feels like me." Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:15You know?
- 1:07:15And, like, it's my humor now.
- 1:07:17Well, it's also your way to keep- It light- Yeah and fun around here Yes And it- And it also- you know?
- 1:07:24I, I thought what you were gonna say,'cause it, that's one point.
- 1:07:26But it also keeps, back to my point about my family, them in it without me feeling like I'm exposing anybody.
- 1:07:35Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:35Like, I wasn't loving the vlogging, because I felt like everybody needed to participate, otherwise you were just following me around all day.
- 1:07:42And like, I'm like, no, I'm with my kids, you know?
- 1:07:44So I, this feels like you can get a glimpse into my world without anybody feeling exposed.
- 1:07:51Right.
- 1:07:51You know?
- 1:07:51And it also is just like, well, now you get my humor, you know?
- 1:07:54Right, yeah.
- 1:07:55That I think was very hidden before.
- 1:07:57And so yes, I think that wa- that was a really good question.
- 1:08:00What a nice transition, for you.
- 1:08:02Feels very good.
- 1:08:03And I feel like it's worked out p- just the way it was supposed to- Yeah for you- It took a long time in your journey of your career.
- 1:08:09Yeah.
- 1:08:09You know?
- 1:08:09I'm loving it.
- 1:08:10I really am.
- 1:08:11And I guess, uh, a lot of other people are too.
- 1:08:13I've had the views are crazy.
- 1:08:14You've had several viral videos.
- 1:08:15Yeah.
- 1:08:15And they're so fun and so lighthearted and very inspiring.
- 1:08:19Yeah, it's a good direction.
- 1:08:21And I, you know, I'm loving content creating again, and I feel like I couldn't say that a couple years ago, truly.
- 1:08:27So.
- 1:08:27Well, the best part of viewing this type of content is like sharing it with somebody.
- 1:08:31Yes.
- 1:08:31And your shares are crazy high.
- 1:08:33My shares are- thousands and t- sometimes tens of thousands.
- 1:08:36So I'm like, oh, peop- this is happening in other people's houses.
- 1:08:38Thank you for validating me.
- 1:08:40Aw.
- 1:08:40So it's been really fun.
- 1:08:41Yeah.
- 1:08:42So I'm really happy.
- 1:08:42But- Good guys, this was fun.
- 1:08:44But we're gonna- All right, well my k- We have to wrap it up.
- 1:08:46We're gonna go into our- All my kids are home pink spotlight.
- 1:08:48Okay.
- 1:08:48Very, very quickly.
- 1:08:50So our pink spotlight, if you're new, is our person, place, thing, tip, anything of the week that's making life a little bit better.
- 1:08:56What's up, T?
- 1:08:57So I'm gonna do a product.
- 1:08:58Mine is these jeans that I'm wearing.
- 1:09:00Oh.
- 1:09:00And Christina, hi, Mom, too.
- 1:09:01We have, we're twinsies today.
- 1:09:03So we can do a show-and-tell.

- 1:09:11So good.
- 1:09:11I saw this thing on Instagram that was like, every item bought between now and Sunday is your Mother's Day gift.
- 1:09:17Perfect.
- 1:09:17So.
- 1:09:17Invest in a new pair of jeans.
- 1:09:18I would agree with that.
- 1:09:19Like, jeans are like very- I know underrated.
- 1:09:22Like- No spend the money this makes the whole outfit look good.
- 1:09:25So these could be your go-to date night jean.
- 1:09:27Yep.
- 1:09:28Or this could be your like workday jean.
- 1:09:30But I'm short.
- 1:09:31I'm 5'2" and I have on like a very short heel.
- 1:09:34And these jeans, when you stand up, I'll stand up in a second, like just hit the ground.
- 1:09:38Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:39And you're taller than I am.
- 1:09:40No, no.
- 1:09:40And they like- They just graze me look similar.
- 1:09:42Yep, they're perfect.
- 1:09:43They just graze on you too.
- 1:09:43Yeah.
- 1:09:44So I feel like they work for ev- a lot of body Yeah a lot of different body types.
- 1:09:48I don't know how jeans do that- Well, also- how they work for- These are- different body types I'm also, like, very over the extremely rigid jeans, and these have, like, just enough shape but also stretch so you can sit in them, you're comfortable.
- 1:10:00They're- I'm so cozy in them.
- 1:10:01I love them.
- 1:10:01But here, I'll stand up.
- 1:10:02I'll show you.

- 1:10:05Yep.
- 1:10:06So cute.
- 1:10:06So- Love them Okay, mine's gonna be quick'cause I have to go.
- 1:10:09I have 12 minutes till I have to be home.
- 1:10:11You have 12 minutes until your help is leaving.
- 1:10:14I have 12 minutes to be out of here.
- 1:10:16You guys know how I don't drink that much anymore.
- 1:10:19I think I've shared this on the podcast, but I am very, very into little drops that you add- Hmm to any sort of non-alcoholic drink.
- 1:10:27And I am telling you, these drops are called Tipsy by Equilibria.
- 1:10:32Hmm.
- 1:10:32I've worked with Equilibria for years and years, probably six or seven years now, and there's all sorts of, like, CBD, THC products that they make, and they came out with these Tipsy drops.
- 1:10:44And you can either get them in a bottle or they have these little snap packets that you can bring with you so you don't have to bring a dropper with you,'cause, like, how awkward is that?
- 1:10:53And I'm telling you, one of these, like, in my drink and I put it in, like, a seltzer or something- Hmm and I just feel, like, the slightest buzz.
- 1:11:03Zero hangover Zero sleep issues, zero, like, parched mouth.
- 1:11:09Like, literally- So what does it do?
- 1:11:11It's like a mood enhancer or- It's a CBD THC hybrid.
- 1:11:14Oh.
- 1:11:15And so you just feel like- Chilled and it's, like, so mild that you just feel the slightest buzzy feeling.
- 1:11:22Like how you would after a few sips of wine.
- 1:11:24Yes.
- 1:11:24But, like, no hangover.
- 1:11:26I am obsessed with them.
- 1:11:28Like, I bring them out when we have, like, a date night.
- 1:11:30I'm gonna bring them with me on my trip because I'm p- not planning to drink.
- 1:11:33I wanna come home, like, not feeling like I was run over by a bus.
- 1:11:36I didn't say this, but I'm going on a girls' 40s trip because a bunch of me and my girlfriends are turning 40- That's awesome this year and next year, so we're, like, starting the party early.
- 1:11:44Well, when we record next week, you're gonna tell us all about it.
- 1:11:45I'm gonna tell you all about it.
- 1:11:47And so I don't wanna come home feeling like I got run over by a tractor trailer.
- 1:11:50Like, that's not the vibe I'm going for.
- 1:11:52But I also wanna, like, let loose and have fun, and so these drink drops are phenomenal, and I am obsessed with them.
- 1:11:59I have a code because I've worked with Equilibria for forever, so I'll put them in the show notes for you guys.
- 1:12:04And we'll be back next week.
- 1:12:08T and I will be back?
