- 0:09Speaker 1: Yes, I'm Ray Wise, and you are listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:14Speaker 2: And you'd better listen.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:35Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:38Speaker 4: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:42Speaker 5: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:13Speaker 5: What's up, and.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I'm Brian.
- 1:31Speaker 6: And I'm Paul. And I'm Gina.
- 1:33Speaker 3: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:35Speaker 3: Blue Jayway.
- 1:36Speaker 6: We're going clockwise this time. Once again, we are back.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And if you have been listening this past year and
- 1:46Speaker 3: you hear this lineup, and then there's a couple of
- 1:48Speaker 3: episodes and you're just like, I thought these idiots were
- 1:52Speaker 3: supposed to be doing action explosion into the world movies.
- 1:56Speaker 3: We're taking a break, just so you know.
- 1:58Speaker 6: We felt like... We actually.
- 2:00Speaker 3: That's the weird thing is we decided we were doing...
- 2:03Speaker 3: the apocalyptic kind of end-of-the-world crazy movies before the world
- 2:10Speaker 3: started to end.
- 2:11Speaker 7: Right.
- 2:11Speaker 6: So we felt like.
- 2:14Speaker 3: We needed a break. We didn't want to watch, although
- 2:16Speaker 3: I have on my own watched a few, not really
- 2:19Speaker 3: apocalyptic as much as, I've gone back to some zombie movies.
- 2:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I feel like we're living.
- 2:28Speaker 7: In pretty weird times.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So I figured we'd take a break, and maybe somewhere
- 2:32Speaker 3: down the line, if we survive, we can celebrate by
- 2:37Speaker 3: watching some apocalyptic movies, disasters.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Or whatever it is we're going to come back to.
- 2:42Speaker 3: So I don't want to give up on that series,
- 2:44Speaker 3: but we just took a time out.
- 2:46Speaker 7: I feel like disaster movies are fun, except when the
- 2:51Speaker 7: world you're living in is not a disaster movie.
- 2:54Speaker 6: And that's great.
- 2:55Speaker 7: That's all great fun, you know, until.
- 2:58Speaker 3: If anybody was sitting around going, when are they going
- 3:00Speaker 3: to talk about Earthquake?
- 3:02Speaker 6: It's on the board. It's on the board. But it's
- 3:07Speaker 6: further down the line.
- 3:08Speaker 7: Just don't talk about it. I don't want to think
- 3:10Speaker 7: about what's going to happen next. That's my question. I
- 3:14Speaker 7: don't want to think about what's going to happen next.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Because no matter what, it's more ridiculous every day.
- 3:21Speaker 7: And the rock won't be there to fix things.
- 3:24Speaker 6: I mean, the rock wasn't in Poseidon. He didn't fix
- 3:27Speaker 6: anything in Poseidon.
- 3:28Speaker 7: Although if he'd been in, he would have fixed it.
- 3:30Speaker 3: He would have shoved himself in the hole and been like,
- 3:32Speaker 3: flip this boat back over. And he'd be like, he
- 3:34Speaker 3: would have plugged the hole until they got back to shore.
- 3:37Speaker 7: The rock can't be everywhere at one time.
- 3:39Speaker 3: That's true.
- 3:40Speaker 6: He's got a full plate. He's like Superman.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 7: I can't.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I can't.
- 3:45Speaker 6: Save every bus.
- 3:46Speaker 7: So what's our what's our jam.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So instead we we got on this crazy kick of
- 3:51Speaker 3: how do we how do we recast these things or
- 3:55Speaker 3: why do we recall should we recast these things or
- 3:58Speaker 3: why are we even posing this so we've posed a
- 4:01Speaker 3: few questions in the past that maybe nobody wanted the
- 4:05Speaker 3: answers to it's okay because we didn't really answer the
- 4:07Speaker 3: question we don't have answers But along the way, and
- 4:10Speaker 3: it's weird because we didn't throw this one out there.
- 4:14Speaker 3: And yet in the process, I came up with it
- 4:16Speaker 3: and wrote down a whole scenario for it.
- 4:18Speaker 7: And it totally fits.
- 4:19Speaker 3: And when I got here, you brought it up. And
- 4:21Speaker 3: I was like, damn, we both came up with the
- 4:22Speaker 3: same dumb idea. So the question is, and first let
- 4:27Speaker 3: me state, I don't think this is a good idea
- 4:30Speaker 3: at all. But if you made a Rick and Morty
- 4:34Speaker 3: movie live action.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Who do you cast?
- 4:38Speaker 3: And how does this movie go? I think it's a
- 4:40Speaker 3: terrible idea, first and foremost.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Wait, wait, wait. Let's pose the question.
- 4:44Speaker 7: So it's a terrible idea because it's basically just like
- 4:49Speaker 7: if you were going to recast... you know.
- 4:52Speaker 3: That's my question how far in before you realize that
- 4:55Speaker 3: yeah like because i think i'd watched one or two
- 4:58Speaker 3: and i was like i got a little twinge but
- 5:00Speaker 3: i was like oh no this is just again i
- 5:03Speaker 3: think the more you get the sense of humor of
- 5:06Speaker 3: the show you realize this is all a play on
- 5:09Speaker 3: like it's weird enough don't get me wrong i think
- 5:12Speaker 3: back to the future is amazing and damn near perfect
- 5:15Speaker 3: But even as a kid, I was like, why is
- 5:17Speaker 3: this teenager hanging out with this old man?
- 5:20Speaker 6: So that's a weird scenario of itself.
- 5:23Speaker 7: And even in the most misanthropic thing.
- 5:28Speaker 3: You're just going over to a creepy old man's house
- 5:31Speaker 3: if you want to think about it too much, which
- 5:33Speaker 3: I don't because I like Back to the Future. But
- 5:36Speaker 3: in a perverted world where Rick and Morty happens, you
- 5:40Speaker 3: can question and go down any dark rabbit hole you want,
- 5:45Speaker 3: and you still won't get near as dark and twisted
- 5:47Speaker 3: as the actual Rick and Morty.
- 5:48Speaker 7: Yeah, which, you know, which it's a great show. I mean, like,
- 5:51Speaker 7: I can't, I, I thought I heard about it and
- 5:56Speaker 7: thought it was great and kept thinking like, that's pretty good.
- 5:59Speaker 7: And then we stumbled on it and I was like,
- 6:00Speaker 7: oh my God, I'm obsessed. And I don't think you
- 6:04Speaker 7: can recast it as something. But it's funny to frame
- 6:07Speaker 7: it in that idea of the original situation, which was
- 6:10Speaker 7: pretty much Dan Harmon's idea of a twisted.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It's already a bastardized version of that. So that's why
- 6:18Speaker 3: you have to throw out those two options. But then
- 6:20Speaker 3: it's like, okay, so if we're now doubling back around,
- 6:24Speaker 3: trying to do a live action version of this horrendous
- 6:28Speaker 3: thing going on on screen, and don't get me wrong,
- 6:31Speaker 3: it's genius, but It goes down some dark road. So
- 6:36Speaker 3: what funny option do we come up with to shove
- 6:39Speaker 3: humans in there?
- 6:40Speaker 6: I have one.
- 6:41Speaker 4: So I was checking this out and apparently Reddit has
- 6:47Speaker 4: an entire.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Long, long list of this. Of course it does.
- 6:51Speaker 4: And my favorite one so far that I've read is
- 6:55Speaker 4: Peter Capaldi and Michael Cera.
- 6:58Speaker 6: See, that was my first go-to. And I kind of
- 7:01Speaker 6: like that.
- 7:01Speaker 8: Really?
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but again, like in previous of these episodes, sometimes,
- 7:08Speaker 3: in fact, most of my Mortys are like time-traveling versions.
- 7:13Speaker 3: You certainly can't do Michael Cera now, but season one,
- 7:18Speaker 3: Arrested Development, is perfect.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Yes, it's perfect.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Perfect as Morty.
- 7:23Speaker 7: But if you take that, you could also say that.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Tobey Maguire?
- 7:27Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, his dad.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Tobey Maguire's dad?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Uncle Ben?
- 7:33Speaker 3: That's not his dad. No. This is the.
- 7:35Speaker 7: Thing that happens when I talk about stuff. We talk
- 7:38Speaker 7: about things and I lose the name. The guy.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Morty?
- 7:43Speaker 6: With the eyes and legs.
- 7:44Speaker 3: No.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Morty's dad.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Who's dad?
- 7:48Speaker 6: Who are you talking about?
- 7:49Speaker 7: Michael Ceron, Risk Development.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Oh, good lord.
- 7:54Speaker 6: He was in Game Night. I love that movie. Mallory's brother.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:00Speaker 9: Yes.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Jason Bateman.
- 8:03Speaker 6: Jason Bateman.
- 8:04Speaker 2: God.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Jason Bateman would actually make a great, like, you know, the.
- 8:09Speaker 6: I don't know about that.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Who are you? Absolutely.
- 8:12Speaker 3: What are you doing with Jason Bateman?
- 8:14Speaker 6: As Morty.
- 8:15Speaker 7: As Morty?
- 8:15Speaker 3: No, no, no, no.
- 8:16Speaker 7: As Rick Sanchez.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Really?
- 8:18Speaker 6: As Rick Sanchez?
- 8:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 8:19Speaker 10: Yes.
- 8:19Speaker 3: I would pick him. Wow. Who would be Morty?
- 8:21Speaker 6: That is a very different. Who would be Morty to Rick?
- 8:24Speaker 7: Michael Cera.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Oh.
- 8:27Speaker 7: Oh.
- 8:28Speaker 3: This is a.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Weird choice for Rick.
- 8:32Speaker 9: Well.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It is a weird choice for Rick.
- 8:33Speaker 6: I've got a few weird choices. You can't do Michael
- 8:38Speaker 6: Cera for Morty.
- 8:39Speaker 7: They have the same relationship.
- 8:41Speaker 3: No. Yeah, they do.
- 8:43Speaker 2: No.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Yeah, they do.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And are you doing old, like first season version of
- 8:49Speaker 3: him and current day version of Jason Bateman?
- 8:53Speaker 7: I'm doing first season Michael Cera.
- 8:55Speaker 3: First season both of them?
- 8:57Speaker 7: First season Michael Cera. Late season Jason Bateman.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But not now?
- 9:02Speaker 6: No.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Not like Ozark?
- 9:05Speaker 3: I love Ozark.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Jason Bateman.
- 9:06Speaker 7: Yeah, maybe. Maybe, yeah. Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Jason Bateman would have never come on my radar.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Really?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Because he's got that same.
- 9:15Speaker 7: He can have that same contained.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But are we still going with... I mean, that's the
- 9:21Speaker 3: other thing. Looking at the... Rick Sanchez plays as a
- 9:25Speaker 3: really old crazy man. But his daughter's not that old. Like, again,
- 9:30Speaker 3: he's maybe, what, 50s? Like, he just happens to have
- 9:33Speaker 3: crazy white hair.
- 9:34Speaker 6: She's like in her 40s. She's not in her 40s.
- 9:36Speaker 7: She's like late, mid-30s.
- 9:38Speaker 6: I would say 30s. They have a family, so they're
- 9:40Speaker 6: in their 30s or 40s. Yeah, probably 30s. So he's
- 9:42Speaker 6: at least 60 or so.
- 9:44Speaker 7: No, he's like mid-50s.
- 9:46Speaker 6: There's no way.
- 9:46Speaker 7: But they make him look like he's insane.
- 9:48Speaker 6: He's like late 50s.
- 9:49Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Rick Sanchez?
- 9:51Speaker 6: But he could be.
- 9:51Speaker 7: Rick Sanchez is not much.
- 9:52Speaker 6: But he also could be 70.
- 9:54Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 9:54Speaker 6: We don't know.
- 9:56Speaker 3: But I think he could easily be mid to late 50s.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he could be. Depending on how young
- 10:01Speaker 6: the daughter is.
- 10:02Speaker 7: I think he's an easy 60.
- 10:03Speaker 6: And that's not old.
- 10:04Speaker 4: How about if I can do a little typecasting, we'll
- 10:08Speaker 4: have Benedict Cumberbatch as Rick Sanchez.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Interesting.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Interesting. See, but that's where I was going before. I
- 10:15Speaker 3: was like, so then are we trying to play up
- 10:18Speaker 3: the old man version for whoever we cast, and we
- 10:21Speaker 3: put them in crazy white hair wigs?
- 10:23Speaker 6: Somewhere in between, I think.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Because several of mine need a crazy wig to be
- 10:28Speaker 3: able to pull this off.
- 10:30Speaker 7: Okay, so you guys, are you going more with the
- 10:34Speaker 7: humanistic version of Rick Sanchez, or are you going with the.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I'm going with the, as presented on screen, crazy-ass Rick Sanchez.
- 10:43Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 3: So I don't really want to change the way that
- 10:47Speaker 3: it works. I still want it to kind of operate
- 10:50Speaker 3: like the current version, but trying to force.
- 10:53Speaker 6: A live actor to do this.
- 10:55Speaker 4: And you have to have an actor that can deliver
- 10:57Speaker 4: that kind of rapid fire delivery.
- 11:01Speaker 6: It's almost like, again, my marriage was manic.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Like he's not, he's not, because there were other actors
- 11:07Speaker 3: that I'm like, no, I don't think they can pull
- 11:08Speaker 3: it off. There's like a weird, like confidence to him
- 11:12Speaker 3: obviously and being super smart and knowing it and not
- 11:15Speaker 3: giving a shit what anybody else thinks but there's also
- 11:18Speaker 3: like a manicness to the way that he does.
- 11:20Speaker 7: Things so who do you think that is what's your i.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Didn't like everybody that came up with morty was like
- 11:26Speaker 3: old versions like i don't have a modern day again
- 11:29Speaker 3: i was trying to think back of all the young
- 11:30Speaker 3: boy i was trying to think of all the young
- 11:32Speaker 3: actors that we came i guess we got a pull
- 11:34Speaker 3: from stranger things or it but i was trying to
- 11:37Speaker 3: think of the ones that we came up with for
- 11:38Speaker 3: battle of the planets Because it's kind of around that
- 11:41Speaker 3: same age range. I still didn't really come up with
- 11:43Speaker 3: any good options. But all of my, I came up
- 11:46Speaker 3: with some pretty good Ricks. All of my Mortys were, again,
- 11:49Speaker 3: like if you're pulling the Michael Cera old time card,
- 11:52Speaker 3: you got to go with, well, I guess Jesse Eisenberg
- 11:54Speaker 3: could kind of do.
- 11:55Speaker 6: A version of that.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yeah. But only at that same era when he was
- 11:58Speaker 3: like 19, maybe not now. The one that I forgot
- 12:03Speaker 3: all about and I was just like, hey, what the
- 12:05Speaker 3: hell happened to him?
- 12:06Speaker 6: How come we can't cast him.
- 12:07Speaker 3: When he was like 12 years old? Frankie Muniz.
- 12:11Speaker 6: I think he could have pulled that off. I don't
- 12:13Speaker 6: know who that is.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Malcolm in the Middle. First couple of seasons of Malcolm
- 12:18Speaker 3: when he's still pretty young before he hit the weird
- 12:20Speaker 3: awkward teenage years. That would have been an interesting Morty.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I could see that.
- 12:25Speaker 7: But here's the thing. I think that you cast for
- 12:32Speaker 7: the younger look but you also have to have the
- 12:37Speaker 7: person that's able to capture that like less naive thing
- 12:41Speaker 7: because it becomes like oh i'm gonna hang out and
- 12:45Speaker 7: then it becomes this like twisted thing if he's.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Like which the michael's tarot one kind of works like
- 12:49Speaker 3: he starts super naive and then you kind of get
- 12:52Speaker 3: the feeling like especially even in rest of development you
- 12:55Speaker 3: see he's aware of what's going on in his jacked
- 12:58Speaker 3: up family so that's again not terrible i mean i think.
- 13:01Speaker 7: That's a pretty good option i don't that's a really
- 13:04Speaker 7: hard travel Right. It's a really hard thing to cast,
- 13:07Speaker 7: and I don't know who you would possibly cast for
- 13:10Speaker 7: either of those. I mean, it's such a crazy weird.
- 13:14Speaker 6: Eric is way easier than Morgan.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I just started going through older actors, because that's
- 13:18Speaker 3: the thing. A lot of the older ones we'd lost already.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So I'm like, who's still around, but is that old
- 13:24Speaker 3: enough to be able to pull off the old man thing?
- 13:27Speaker 4: Someone on Reddit suggested John Malkovich as Rick, and I
- 13:31Speaker 4: don't think that that's possible.
- 13:33Speaker 6: That's pretty good, though.
- 13:35Speaker 7: That's actually really good.
- 13:37Speaker 4: It would be interesting, but I don't think he could
- 13:39Speaker 4: pull off that rapid-fire delivery. He's way too deliberate in
- 13:43Speaker 4: his delivery.
- 13:44Speaker 6: See, that's the thing.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I got the other ones that I like. a couple
- 13:48Speaker 3: other ones that i'm like i like the actor but
- 13:50Speaker 3: i don't think they can like they're almost too well
- 13:53Speaker 3: spoken and too like that because rick is just that's
- 13:56Speaker 3: the other i was like they have to be able
- 13:58Speaker 3: to pull off the level of wingnut crazy that like
- 14:02Speaker 3: and also just self-assuredness in themselves and i don't give
- 14:07Speaker 3: a shit like there's a craziness to rick that is
- 14:10Speaker 3: like frightening in the real world so you have to
- 14:13Speaker 3: have somebody who's just.
- 14:14Speaker 6: All right unnerving enough.
- 14:16Speaker 7: To be able to pull that off so i'll give
- 14:18Speaker 7: you my option for that i'd say like i love steve.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Martin all right that's pretty good.
- 14:24Speaker 7: But like in a kind kind of like wacky.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I don't know that i've ever seen him go that
- 14:31Speaker 3: dark like i feel like you have to be able Like,
- 14:34Speaker 3: Rick is dark.
- 14:36Speaker 6: But I think he could do it.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Like, I think he's an old comedic actor. I don't
- 14:41Speaker 3: think I've ever seen him, even in stuff that's a
- 14:44Speaker 3: little more straight, I've never seen him do anything that's
- 14:47Speaker 3: that mean-spirited.
- 14:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 3: That you need a vein of that running through, Rick.
- 14:52Speaker 3: The one that I came up with that was, like,
- 14:54Speaker 3: one of the first ones I was like, actually? Especially now,
- 14:56Speaker 3: because he is kind of old and crazy looking?
- 14:59Speaker 7: Al Pacino.
- 14:59Speaker 6: Al Pacino.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Oh.
- 15:01Speaker 9: No.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Scenery chewing level Al Pacino. Now with the, he's got
- 15:06Speaker 3: the old man look going now. If you watch him
- 15:08Speaker 3: in stuff.
- 15:09Speaker 6: He's getting up there.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Yeah, we left him in.
- 15:12Speaker 6: Yeah, that series? Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 3: So, I mean, he can.
- 15:15Speaker 6: The Hunters or whatever. The Hunters, yeah. I don't know.
- 15:18Speaker 3: He can do way over the top. Yeah, he can. So,
- 15:21Speaker 3: you kind of let him run.
- 15:23Speaker 6: That's the thing.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Most of it, I think you almost have to let
- 15:25Speaker 3: them go crazy with this role.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Because you can't be reserved in playing Rick. I've got
- 15:30Speaker 6: some others for you.
- 15:31Speaker 7: But wait a minute. So I think that's true. And
- 15:34Speaker 7: I love how he's been in that series. But well,
- 15:39Speaker 7: I guess I want to like Rick more than I
- 15:41Speaker 7: probably should.
- 15:42Speaker 6: I think that's true in general.
- 15:44Speaker 7: That's hard.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Well, that's what you start to take away. If you
- 15:47Speaker 3: watch multiple episodes, you're like, I like Rick.
- 15:51Speaker 6: I shouldn't like Rick.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Right. Rick is a horrible person.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Rick doesn't like Rick.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Like once in a while, there's a redeeming moment. And
- 15:58Speaker 3: even then, they usually double back and just stick you
- 16:01Speaker 3: in the gut.
- 16:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Like even when you think it's a redeeming moment.
- 16:04Speaker 6: There's that one per season episode where Rick gets dark
- 16:08Speaker 6: and he's like, oh God, I'm terrible.
- 16:10Speaker 7: It gets really dark.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Or there's once in a while where he really does
- 16:13Speaker 3: come to the conclusion that he loves his grandkids or something.
- 16:16Speaker 6: Or his daughter. But rarely.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Rarely.
- 16:18Speaker 7: And that's the thing. Sometimes I'll look at it and
- 16:21Speaker 7: I'm like, man, I get it. I so want to
- 16:23Speaker 7: be like, I so get that relationship with his daughter.
- 16:27Speaker 6: I have some good.
- 16:28Speaker 7: And it's like, that is the moment.
- 16:30Speaker 4: I have some good Rick options. I haven't seen many
- 16:35Speaker 4: Morty options yet, but these are good Rick options.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I have a bunch of Ricks.
- 16:39Speaker 6: Hugh Laurie.
- 16:40Speaker 8: No.
- 16:41Speaker 6: Did not think of that one. Willem Dafoe.
- 16:44Speaker 3: No.
- 16:45Speaker 10: Maybe.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Steve Buscemi.
- 16:46Speaker 10: No.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Maybe, yeah. He's got good delivery.
- 16:52Speaker 3: He can do the look.
- 16:53Speaker 7: He can do the look and the delivery.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Jeff Goldblum.
- 16:55Speaker 11: Yes.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Yes.
- 16:58Speaker 7: But I still like him.
- 16:58Speaker 6: Well, it's just hard to not be Jeff Goldblum.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Well, he's Jeff Goldblum being Rick.
- 17:04Speaker 3: He plays into his own persona now, which would be
- 17:07Speaker 3: hard to do and play Rick.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Billy Bob Thornton.
- 17:11Speaker 10: Nope.
- 17:11Speaker 3: No.
- 17:13Speaker 6: I could actually see him. I could actually see Billy
- 17:15Speaker 6: Bob Thornton do it.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Because I like.
- 17:17Speaker 7: Rick, I don't like Billy Bob Thornton.
- 17:19Speaker 3: But he can play.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Your own prejudices. He can play pretty varied versions.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Sometimes he's sort of a good guy, and sometimes he's
- 17:28Speaker 3: just an out-and-out bad guy.
- 17:30Speaker 6: I could see the dynamic coming through on Billy Bob Thornton.
- 17:32Speaker 6: I would pick.
- 17:33Speaker 7: I.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Just read a really weird one.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Steve Carell.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Okay.
- 17:42Speaker 3: That's weird.
- 17:43Speaker 6: With someone?
- 17:44Speaker 7: Steve Carell. No, because Steve Carell has this like.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Yeah, but is there a counter to Steve Carell's... These
- 17:53Speaker 4: are my ricks.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Rick, okay. Steve Carell. Okay.
- 17:56Speaker 7: John Malkovich I can kind of see.
- 17:58Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:58Speaker 7: However... See, I can't see John Malkovich. I can, his delivery.
- 18:03Speaker 7: And he'd have to like speed it up.
- 18:06Speaker 6: I don't think he's capable. I don't... Alright, how about this?
- 18:11Speaker 6: I love this. Idris Elba and Sean Astin. Yeah!
- 18:17Speaker 3: I love it. I love it.
- 18:19Speaker 6: I think it's fantastic.
- 18:20Speaker 7: Idris Elba hits on the same problem I have with
- 18:24Speaker 7: John Malkovich is like, it's this very calm.
- 18:26Speaker 6: Yeah, he's too reserved.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Like, I've never seen him be that unhinged to play.
- 18:31Speaker 6: It would be an interesting stretch for them. Again, I
- 18:33Speaker 6: think he's a good actor, so I would watch it.
- 18:37Speaker 6: I don't know how it would turn out.
- 18:38Speaker 7: I mean, I think, like, Timothy Olyphant could do it.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Timothy Olyphant would be great.
- 18:42Speaker 6: You're going so much younger. Like, I started diving into
- 18:46Speaker 6: Crazy Old Man.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Oh, no, no, no.
- 18:48Speaker 6: And I got, like, James Woods. I got Richard Dreyfuss.
- 18:52Speaker 3: No.
- 18:54Speaker 6: Current day, crazy old man. That's not bad. That's not bad.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Also because he's got like an uncaring edge to him.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Like he's played characters that are that cold.
- 19:05Speaker 7: But I feel like that character was written towards those...
- 19:10Speaker 7: That influence.
- 19:11Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 19:11Speaker 3: But that's what I'm trying to, yeah, that's what I'm like,
- 19:13Speaker 3: how do you take what's going on with Rick in
- 19:16Speaker 3: the animated form and find somebody that can pull off
- 19:20Speaker 3: that presence and still pull off that dynamic of being
- 19:24Speaker 3: self-assured and smart and completely cold-blooded when need be?
- 19:29Speaker 4: I think my favorite Rick option via Reddit is Ian McShane.
- 19:37Speaker 7: Oh, I love Ian McShane.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Because of the delivery and his ability to just rapid-fire
- 19:45Speaker 4: throw shit out there and be believable.
- 19:51Speaker 7: With Ian McShane is I keep going back to like
- 19:53Speaker 7: his dyed black hair and I can't well.
- 19:55Speaker 3: That's the thing I got the one that like I
- 19:58Speaker 3: didn't think of I saw it just on a list
- 20:01Speaker 3: of actors and I went no because he doesn't again
- 20:04Speaker 3: he is the age he doesn't really come off the
- 20:07Speaker 3: same crazy old age and But then I was like, ooh,
- 20:10Speaker 3: performance though, Alec Baldwin.
- 20:13Speaker 7: He could do it.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Is a cold-blooded bastard. Yeah, that's pretty good. And I'm like,
- 20:17Speaker 6: I could see.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Like, if you give him the white hair and let
- 20:20Speaker 3: him just dive into the darkness that is kind of
- 20:23Speaker 3: really Alec Baldwin. Like, even real world, we've seen some pretty, like,
- 20:28Speaker 3: dark shit.
- 20:29Speaker 6: That's pretty good.
- 20:29Speaker 3: So, I was like.
- 20:31Speaker 6: So, I think what we've decided is that there are
- 20:34Speaker 6: plenty of great options for Rick.
- 20:37Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 6: But there are not many great options for Morty.
- 20:40Speaker 7: We may not know them. That's the thing.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Especially if we're going the more teenage version of Morty. Because, again,
- 20:48Speaker 3: we're still pulling late teens.
- 20:50Speaker 4: But it's not as dynamic of a character. I mean,
- 20:53Speaker 4: he's a 14-year-old kid. He masturbates a lot. He's a
- 20:58Speaker 4: 14-year-old kid.
- 20:59Speaker 6: And he, you know... Well, that's pretty much it.
- 21:02Speaker 7: No, I don't think that's it.
- 21:03Speaker 3: He's also like completely unsure of himself.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Like every teenager, but worse. So he's a typical teenager.
- 21:12Speaker 7: Yeah, but I don't read him as that age. Like
- 21:16Speaker 7: I see him as much older. Like I see him
- 21:19Speaker 7: as like 20s and 30s. So he's a 20 and
- 21:23Speaker 7: 30 year old person stuck in a teenager's body because
- 21:27Speaker 7: of all the experiences with his.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 21:31Speaker 6: Dimensional travel.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 7: And his grandfather and all that. So it's like, you know,
- 21:37Speaker 7: it's like, who do you find that is like that
- 21:42Speaker 7: teenage version of what?
- 21:45Speaker 3: Again, I was just, the same thing we've gone to.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I was like, okay, let me just bring up the
- 21:50Speaker 3: cast of It. Bill from It. I have not.
- 21:54Speaker 6: That Jaden Martell kid. The new version of it? Just
- 21:58Speaker 6: looking at it. Yeah, just looking at him.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I was like, that's... That's not bad.
- 22:03Speaker 7: To me, it's like this Woody Allen perception.
- 22:06Speaker 6: That's not a bad Morty, visual-wise.
- 22:09Speaker 3: And even in it, at that first movie, he plays
- 22:12Speaker 3: him very unsure, very freaked out by everything, but still
- 22:18Speaker 3: kind of going along with it because he has to,
- 22:20Speaker 3: which is exactly what Morty does.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like, that's not terrible. Play Snake Jazz. Play
- 22:25Speaker 6: Snake Jazz. Yeah, but I think that.
- 22:27Speaker 7: There's like this weird... Woody Allen era history of.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Which I know everybody hates Woody Allen.
- 22:34Speaker 7: Creepy? No, it's not him. I'm not talking about Woody Allen.
- 22:37Speaker 7: I'm talking about the characters that he writes.
- 22:39Speaker 3: But you're trying to bring that persona to Rick or Morty? Morty. Yeah,
- 22:45Speaker 3: it's the self-conscious... Like the stand-up comedy era version of
- 22:50Speaker 3: Woody Allen. Still unsure of himself.
- 22:53Speaker 6: But younger.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Conscious, yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Even though he still kind of looked 40. He was
- 22:57Speaker 3: like 20, but he kind of looked 40. Yeah, he's
- 22:58Speaker 3: never looked whatever. Yeah, I mean, I get that. But again,
- 23:02Speaker 3: at that point, you're just casting, like, Eisenberg. Like, a
- 23:05Speaker 3: young version of Eisenberg. I don't know if that's true,
- 23:08Speaker 3: because I don't think of him. I always felt like
- 23:09Speaker 3: that was one of those. Like, you could just, what
- 23:12Speaker 3: she's kind of done is he got to be an
- 23:13Speaker 3: old man in directing. He started bringing in guys that
- 23:16Speaker 3: kind of talked like him or had his, like, I think, again,
- 23:20Speaker 3: especially Eisenberg, when he started off, could have easily been
- 23:24Speaker 3: the lead in every Woody Allen movie and, like, kind
- 23:27Speaker 3: of would work. Again, I don't know. I don't want
- 23:30Speaker 3: that dynamic, but I don't feel like that's as far off.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know that that could compete.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Well, I mean, I don't think I was saying that
- 23:40Speaker 7: that's the dynamic. I'm just saying that that's the delivery.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Yeah, delivery, but not the way he looks at things.
- 23:48Speaker 6: I don't know, Rick.
- 23:49Speaker 7: Yeah, that's not.
- 23:50Speaker 6: I'm not sure, Rick. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 23:55Speaker 6: I mean, there are a lot of ways that you
- 23:57Speaker 6: could do it.
- 23:59Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, Morty has to
- 24:03Speaker 4: be an insecure teenager.
- 24:06Speaker 6: That's just all there is to it. But you can
- 24:10Speaker 6: portray that a number of different ways. But will it work?
- 24:14Speaker 3: Going to the other young cast, the Will from Stranger Things.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Not terrible visually.
- 24:20Speaker 7: Not terrible.
- 24:21Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 24:22Speaker 6: Again, like performance, it's pretty different, but I mean, that's, yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 6: that's not bad.
- 24:27Speaker 3: So Noah's shrap, snap, something.
- 24:32Speaker 7: You know, there's so many things I love about that,
- 24:34Speaker 7: that just would never work as a real. I don't,
- 24:40Speaker 7: I mean, it's, it's this absurd animated thing and you
- 24:45Speaker 7: don't have to make it work in a, Real life scenario.
- 24:48Speaker 3: But we do because we saddled ourselves with this.
- 24:51Speaker 6: I know.
- 24:52Speaker 3: But actually, I kind of like it at that young
- 24:56Speaker 3: because I think that's part of what's so horrifying as
- 24:59Speaker 3: you get into this is that Morty is a kid.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And he's continually being forced to do all these things
- 25:07Speaker 3: that he knows is horrible and The more it goes on,
- 25:11Speaker 3: the more it kind of wears on him that it's like, why.
- 25:13Speaker 7: Do we keep doing this?
- 25:15Speaker 3: So it doesn't play the same on a 20-year-old actor
- 25:18Speaker 3: as it would somebody in their teens.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Yeah, because one of my favorite things is when he's like,
- 25:23Speaker 7: I saw us bury ourselves. And you're like, that is
- 25:27Speaker 7: heavy and dark. And it's like, I don't know how
- 25:31Speaker 7: you handle that. As a 12-year-old, you can dismiss it briefly.
- 25:36Speaker 7: But beyond that and before that, you're like, You know,
- 25:39Speaker 7: this is fucked up.
- 25:40Speaker 4: It's a bit more on the serious side of things.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Like when, like the first season that they did of
- 25:48Speaker 4: Doctor Who in the 60s, you know, the Doctor is this.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Old guy, this crazy old dude.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Doctor, scientist, and there's this young girl who gets involved and,
- 25:59Speaker 4: and her entire world is completely turned upside down.
- 26:02Speaker 6: It's the same, same dynamic.
- 26:04Speaker 7: Having never touched on like how somebody's life is left
- 26:07Speaker 7: totally screwed.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 4: And, and she becomes this very mature, you know, teenager
- 26:15Speaker 4: or young adult, you know.
- 26:17Speaker 6: As a, as a, as a result.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 4: And, and, And to that point, I think maybe it
- 26:23Speaker 4: might be interesting to see the Morty.
- 26:25Speaker 6: Character as a female. Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 9: I mean, that's all.
- 26:29Speaker 6: And, you know, that might make.
- 26:31Speaker 7: Well, I think that's.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Rather than being, you know, you know, caged into the.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Morty being a male thing.
- 26:41Speaker 6: I mean, Summer could be a male. I mean, there's
- 26:43Speaker 6: a lot of different ways you could do that.
- 26:44Speaker 7: That's a role that Summer kind of serves. And I,
- 26:47Speaker 7: I've always felt that because I feel like Summer's always like,
- 26:50Speaker 7: I'm happy to go with you, you know, and that,
- 26:52Speaker 7: that she makes it a point to be like, I
- 26:55Speaker 7: can do this shit too.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:57Speaker 6: And she does. And she does.
- 26:59Speaker 7: And it's kind of worse and crueler.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Yeah. But she's also older, you know.
- 27:05Speaker 7: She's got a little more.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 7: Uh, She's got a little harder heart in that scene.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 6: A couple of times.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Especially in like, there is like a weird dynamic of
- 27:19Speaker 3: her being left out. Like I do like as we
- 27:22Speaker 3: get to like the third season and they work her
- 27:24Speaker 3: in more, but there is like that middle area where
- 27:27Speaker 3: she realizes how much time these two are spending together.
- 27:29Speaker 3: And she's like, why not me? Like, why am I always.
- 27:32Speaker 6: Being left out?
- 27:33Speaker 7: And then she actually kind of ends up being the
- 27:35Speaker 7: better partner in those like fucked up situations where.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 6: So, throw out some more crazy old people.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Man.
- 27:46Speaker 3: This, again, this is one I didn't think of because
- 27:49Speaker 3: he still doesn't read quite.
- 27:51Speaker 6: That old, but he is. Woody Harrelson.
- 27:54Speaker 3: He can commit to crazy.
- 27:56Speaker 6: I like that.
- 27:56Speaker 7: Oh, man, that's good.
- 27:57Speaker 6: He can commit to crazy.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I like that.
- 27:59Speaker 7: Yeah, that's really good.
- 28:00Speaker 6: I like that.
- 28:01Speaker 7: And that's a weird thing.
- 28:02Speaker 6: And dark.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Like, I can see him being able to take it
- 28:05Speaker 3: as dark as it needs to go if need be.
- 28:07Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, that would be good.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Not bad.
- 28:13Speaker 6: So who would be.
- 28:17Speaker 6: I love that. I love Woody Harrelson.
- 28:20Speaker 4: So let's assume that Woody Harrelson has it, and he
- 28:25Speaker 4: is playing Rick. Who is playing Rick's daughter, the mom
- 28:35Speaker 4: in the.
- 28:35Speaker 6: I can't remember the character's name.
- 28:38Speaker 3: See, I didn't go too far down the oven.
- 28:42Speaker 6: Or Jerry. Jerry's Jerry.
- 28:44Speaker 7: And honestly, I think Jerry's perfect at the moment.
- 28:49Speaker 3: But how do you find a normal living human being
- 28:52Speaker 3: that can pull off Jerry?
- 28:54Speaker 7: I think you keep Jerry as who he is.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Jerry's animated?
- 28:58Speaker 3: No, no, no. That's what I'm saying, though.
- 29:00Speaker 7: We still have to have an actor. Like the guy
- 29:02Speaker 7: that plays Jerry.
- 29:04Speaker 6: Oh, like Parnell.
- 29:06Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 29:06Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Yeah. That's not, again, he is pretty close in the
- 29:11Speaker 3: real world to how Jerry is or comes off that way,
- 29:14Speaker 3: at least in his performances. Is that Dr.
- 29:16Speaker 6: Spichemin?
- 29:17Speaker 7: Yes, Dr.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Spichemin. Yeah.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I guess that is putting no work in it, but
- 29:22Speaker 3: it's pretty damn good.
- 29:23Speaker 7: So then would you put like Tina Fey as a daughter?
- 29:28Speaker 7: I mean, I don't think that's.
- 29:30Speaker 9: Hmm.
- 29:31Speaker 6: That's actually pretty good, actually.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Did she have to wear a blonde wig? No.
- 29:35Speaker 2: No.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Because it... I don't know.
- 29:38Speaker 6: It doesn't read right with her hair.
- 29:41Speaker 7: But she's got the same.
- 29:42Speaker 3: But she's definitely got... Because that's the thing. She's also
- 29:45Speaker 3: got to have that.
- 29:47Speaker 6: Like, there is.
- 29:48Speaker 3: So much built up in her. Yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 6: That, like, she covers really well. I could buy her
- 29:54Speaker 6: as a horse doctor.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I can kind of see Tina Fey horse doctor.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Which is also a spinoff series I'd like to see,
- 29:59Speaker 3: Tina Fey horse doctor. Horse doctor.
- 30:01Speaker 5: But.
- 30:03Speaker 3: There's so much mental shit pent up inside of that
- 30:07Speaker 3: woman that she covers for.
- 30:09Speaker 6: That she comes off as.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Normal mom, normal housewife, normal horse doctor.
- 30:14Speaker 6: But at any given moment.
- 30:16Speaker 3: When you press her, this ugly, weird shit comes back out.
- 30:20Speaker 7: Oh my god, yeah. In the last episode we watched
- 30:23Speaker 7: where it's like... The clones. That broke my heart. There's
- 30:29Speaker 7: so many.
- 30:29Speaker 6: Moments of that. It was a very dark episode.
- 30:31Speaker 7: That have broken my heart.
- 30:32Speaker 6: That's every episode. I keep realizing.
- 30:34Speaker 7: Yeah, but there's some that are worse than others.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Sometimes, but the more I get into it, sometimes I'm like,
- 30:39Speaker 3: these all have some moment where it's like, jeez.
- 30:44Speaker 6: There's just no hope. It is a dark series.
- 30:47Speaker 7: It is dark in that I was like, oh my God,
- 30:50Speaker 7: that breaks my heart. But, you know, it kind of
- 30:53Speaker 7: leaves you in that position where you're like, what what
- 30:56Speaker 7: matters beth right like that is as like an adopted
- 31:01Speaker 7: daughter that made me like what matters right but when
- 31:05Speaker 7: you get back and you look at it it's like
- 31:07Speaker 7: that is a perfect example of like how people react
- 31:12Speaker 7: like we're all in these weird situations where we're the
- 31:15Speaker 7: lesser or the greater and you don't know what that.
- 31:20Speaker 6: Means until you're thrust into a scenario.
- 31:55Speaker 3: I'm Pickle Rick!
- 31:56Speaker 2: This is a dill pickle, a mighty pretty pickle, especially
- 32:00Speaker 2: when he joins you at the show. We have lots
- 32:02Speaker 2: of pretty pickles waiting for you at the refreshment center.
- 32:05Speaker 2: They're plump, tender, mouth-watering. Wouldn't one taste good right now?
- 32:22Speaker 3: So, if you've been listening to the last couple of weeks,
- 32:25Speaker 3: you might have noticed I'm not even taking a commercial break.
- 32:31Speaker 3: This is an experiment on its own. I kind of
- 32:33Speaker 3: wanted to see what it's like to just throw it
- 32:34Speaker 3: all in one big shot, rambling for a long time.
- 32:37Speaker 3: But also because we're not dealing with our previous sponsor
- 32:41Speaker 3: at the moment, wherever.
- 32:43Speaker 6: So, that, I won't go into.
- 32:45Speaker 3: The specifics, but it was a call that needed to
- 32:47Speaker 3: be made, and we all agree. So.
- 32:51Speaker 3: What i was thinking was because i i've looked into
- 32:54Speaker 3: kind of other sponsors potentially maybe but the more i
- 32:58Speaker 3: thought about i was like i really don't it'd be
- 33:01Speaker 3: so much better if we didn't have to rely on
- 33:03Speaker 3: anyone and we could just kind of do it ourselves
- 33:07Speaker 3: and by ourselves i mean everybody like those of you
- 33:10Speaker 3: listening right now so um i was gonna put out
- 33:13Speaker 3: a specific because since Since I made a small announcement
- 33:18Speaker 3: saying we didn't have a sponsor, and within that week,
- 33:20Speaker 3: I had somebody kind of step up and join the
- 33:22Speaker 3: horror club and be like, hey, okay, let's get on
- 33:24Speaker 3: board now. And they'd been putting it off for a
- 33:27Speaker 3: while because they even told me. They were like, I'm
- 33:28Speaker 3: going to do it. I'm going to do it. And
- 33:29Speaker 3: then this, I guess, maybe helps be like, oh, maybe
- 33:33Speaker 3: they need some help keeping this thing going. So I
- 33:38Speaker 3: thought that was... I was going to put out a
- 33:39Speaker 3: post that was just like, hey, if we... get people
- 33:43Speaker 3: on board with the Horror Club, we don't even have
- 33:45Speaker 3: to go looking for a sponsor. I'd much rather, like,
- 33:47Speaker 3: I don't even think we need that many people to
- 33:49Speaker 3: kind of compensate. There wasn't that much coming from them.
- 33:52Speaker 3: So I would be glad to overtake what they were
- 33:55Speaker 3: doing with, you know, fan involvement and listeners and just
- 33:59Speaker 3: get people on board with the club instead. So that's
- 34:03Speaker 3: a good reason to join the club anyways, to kind
- 34:06Speaker 3: of get rid of sponsors.
- 34:08Speaker 6: I'm not saying.
- 34:10Speaker 3: If this doesn't happen, we can still find another one,
- 34:12Speaker 3: but I'd like to do it this way if possible.
- 34:14Speaker 3: So I say go to MovieMeltdown.com, look for that Patreon link,
- 34:20Speaker 3: look for that Horror Club link, and you can join
- 34:22Speaker 3: up right now. For like two bucks, you can save
- 34:25Speaker 3: the show and keep us from playing ads if this
- 34:28Speaker 3: goes well. So that's the plan. Then we also came
- 34:33Speaker 3: up with a new addition. As an extra promo, because
- 34:37Speaker 3: I've been toying with this ridiculous idea for a while now.
- 34:40Speaker 6: So, extra tie-in.
- 34:43Speaker 3: We're going to kind of do a promo and start
- 34:47Speaker 3: this new series?
- 34:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 3: We can return to it as regular as we'd like to. So,
- 34:55Speaker 3: in coming up with ridiculous titles for things like I
- 34:59Speaker 3: need to do for all of our running series, this
- 35:02Speaker 3: one we can go with The Meltdown Horror Club Presents
- 35:05Speaker 3: 20 Ways to Die. So, die is the extra there's
- 35:09Speaker 3: an extra geek on the.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Die you know when you explain this concept to me
- 35:14Speaker 4: i did not see and that's what i.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Was like it's not just horror themed it's also dorky
- 35:21Speaker 3: so um we were every pick up on that because
- 35:25Speaker 3: i don't want to be the only one here puns
- 35:27Speaker 3: we're all about puns so the the yeah the idea
- 35:33Speaker 3: i've been toying with anyway because we always have like
- 35:36Speaker 3: our um Before the show conversations, weeks ahead of time,
- 35:41Speaker 3: we're like, the hell are we going to watch? Which
- 35:43Speaker 3: is what all geeks are going through. You're always trying
- 35:46Speaker 3: to figure out what you want to watch next. So
- 35:48Speaker 3: with us, we're just randomly picking things. Sometimes whatever's streaming,
- 35:52Speaker 3: sometimes news, sometimes, I don't know, random. I don't know
- 35:55Speaker 3: where some of these have come from sometimes. There's a few.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I question why the hell we watched it at all.
- 36:00Speaker 3: But it's just random now. Whereas I was like, what
- 36:04Speaker 3: if we came up with a system thing? or a process,
- 36:08Speaker 3: and that way, number one, it would take it out
- 36:10Speaker 3: of our hands most of the time. We can still
- 36:14Speaker 3: throw in a specific one if we have a reason to.
- 36:17Speaker 3: So the die gimmick is we're going to have a
- 36:19Speaker 3: 20-sided die for all the extra bonus points of geekery
- 36:23Speaker 3: out there, and then assign a horror movie to each
- 36:26Speaker 3: of those sides. And then at the end of each episode,
- 36:30Speaker 3: we can roll the dice, die if you will, And
- 36:34Speaker 3: tell you what the next movie is that comes up
- 36:36Speaker 3: on the list. And then the Horror Club tie-in is
- 36:39Speaker 3: that we're going to do a promo right now. We're
- 36:42Speaker 3: trying to get people on board anyway, as previously stated.
- 36:45Speaker 3: So we'll say we're trying to get 20 new people
- 36:47Speaker 3: on board. So for the next 20 people that come
- 36:50Speaker 3: on board at any level, I'm thinking down the line
- 36:53Speaker 3: it might be a little higher up on the tiers,
- 36:55Speaker 3: but for right now, intro promo, the next 20 people
- 36:58Speaker 3: that come on board at any level, starting at $ 2,
- 37:02Speaker 3: you can come on You can put a horror movie
- 37:05Speaker 3: on the list and then it will be in the
- 37:07Speaker 3: running every time we roll the dice. Yours might be
- 37:10Speaker 3: next on the list. So that's our fun new, I
- 37:13Speaker 3: don't know if it's a game, process. Pick movies for us, please.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Please, yes.
- 37:21Speaker 3: And you can, again, I was checking with them. I'm like,
- 37:24Speaker 3: you guys are willing to watch whatever, right? Because this
- 37:28Speaker 3: could be a terrible idea, really. God knows what they
- 37:32Speaker 3: could pick for us to watch.
- 37:33Speaker 6: Or we could see some great stuff that we never
- 37:37Speaker 6: would have known about.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Or some bad stuff. That's kind of what I want
- 37:40Speaker 3: to put. If we're going to have the fine print
- 37:42Speaker 3: on this, I kind of don't want... super mainstream, giant movie.
- 37:47Speaker 3: I'm like, don't pick Halloween. Don't pick Candyman. Don't pick
- 37:51Speaker 3: stuff that every horror fan's already seen. Find something that
- 37:56Speaker 3: most people haven't heard of or find something that you
- 37:58Speaker 3: love but never really got a big reception from anyone else.
- 38:02Speaker 3: I think that would be a more interesting way is
- 38:05Speaker 3: to get a lot of weird random movies and stuff
- 38:08Speaker 3: that we probably on our own wouldn't have come across.
- 38:11Speaker 3: That's another good way to get new input from other
- 38:14Speaker 3: people and different stuff on the list. So that's, yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 3: I say number one, don't pick big mainstream horror movies
- 38:20Speaker 3: that everybody's already heard of and has seen. And I'm
- 38:25Speaker 3: going to go ahead and throw in a line somewhere
- 38:26Speaker 3: here that's like, if you're involved in any way with
- 38:30Speaker 3: the movie, don't put that on there. I feel like
- 38:32Speaker 3: that's a weird loophole.
- 38:33Speaker 6: For people to be like, talk about my movie on
- 38:35Speaker 6: your show.
- 38:36Speaker 3: I'm like, no, no, we're going to check the credits here.
- 38:40Speaker 3: If you're directing, writing, acting, any level of involvement in
- 38:44Speaker 3: this movie, don't. Yeah, that's a whole other type of show.
- 38:47Speaker 3: So just pick some random horror movies that you like personally,
- 38:51Speaker 3: put them on the list, and then we'll work them in.
- 38:54Speaker 3: That's our plan. That's what we're going with. 20 Ways
- 38:58Speaker 3: to Die. So if you haven't joined yet, just go
- 39:01Speaker 3: to MovieMeltdown.com and look on the right-hand side of the
- 39:04Speaker 3: page and click where it says Join the Meltdown Horror Club.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Then you'll get all of our exclusive episodes as we
- 39:10Speaker 3: delve into frightening films, both old and new. So come on,
- 39:14Speaker 3: you can be part of the club and keep this
- 39:16Speaker 3: terror train running. Thank you.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I mean, at any given point, we have to.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Shove any female role at Scarlett Johansson.
- 40:00Speaker 6: So.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Thing is, again, I think she's a good enough actress.
- 40:17Speaker 7: It's her hair color.
- 40:18Speaker 6: You can do damn near everything. It's her hair color.
- 40:19Speaker 3: You're just talking about her hair color. The hair is
- 40:21Speaker 3: making it even easier for me to picture that. But again,
- 40:24Speaker 3: I'm just trying to think of somebody who can pull
- 40:26Speaker 3: off the polished version of the character that she wants
- 40:30Speaker 3: to present to the world versus this messed up kid
- 40:32Speaker 3: that got left by her dad that keeps coming back out.
- 40:35Speaker 7: Yeah, because like, you know, Beth is Beth and Rick
- 40:40Speaker 7: is Rick, right? Morty is the.
- 40:45Speaker 7: Idealized version of rick and summer is the idealized version
- 40:50Speaker 7: of beth so it's like what is that how does
- 40:53Speaker 7: that fit.
- 40:54Speaker 6: In i love tina fey as beth.
- 40:59Speaker 7: But you know what i'm saying like you can look
- 41:01Speaker 7: at those two characters and be like okay so this
- 41:04Speaker 7: is you know the reduced version right i gotcha well
- 41:12Speaker 7: And then there's Jerry, and there's nothing to match Jerry.
- 41:16Speaker 7: So it's like these two and these two, and then
- 41:19Speaker 7: you go down and there's just this.
- 41:21Speaker 4: So are we still operating from Woody Harrelson as Rick?
- 41:25Speaker 4: Because I think that's great. I think Woody Harrelson would.
- 41:28Speaker 6: Do really good. One of the better, yeah.
- 41:31Speaker 7: What about Bill Murray?
- 41:33Speaker 3: Oh. Yeah, he is a crazy old man now, so
- 41:37Speaker 3: that's not a far stretch.
- 41:38Speaker 7: He's older than I would normally think we'd go for that.
- 41:41Speaker 3: But again, Rick, as a cartoon, reads relatively old.
- 41:46Speaker 7: And you really don't know what age he is. He
- 41:49Speaker 7: could have married or had a child with her mom
- 41:52Speaker 7: at whatever age. No, I mean, you don't know. You
- 41:56Speaker 7: don't know anything about Beth's side.
- 41:58Speaker 6: I mean, he did have sex with a planet, so.
- 42:02Speaker 7: Beth could be like a pod person from.
- 42:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, we do not know. We don't know.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I started, again, I started trying to, like, the more
- 42:10Speaker 3: I pulled up old guys, I started coming up with
- 42:12Speaker 3: actual crazy old guys. People like Nick Nolte. Crazy Nick Nolte.
- 42:20Speaker 3: there's potential there.
- 42:21Speaker 6: Yeah. If you can get him to show up. Crazy
- 42:24Speaker 6: Gary Busey.
- 42:25Speaker 7: Oh, wow.
- 42:27Speaker 3: That's almost, like, I don't know at this point if
- 42:29Speaker 3: he can dial it back enough to bring the seriousness
- 42:32Speaker 3: to it.
- 42:33Speaker 6: No, see, maybe, but Busey is just crazy. You'd have
- 42:36Speaker 6: to bring his son in. He's okay.
- 42:39Speaker 3: I like that guy.
- 42:40Speaker 7: You know, there's some real darkness in Rick. Like, legit.
- 42:43Speaker 6: Real darkness. Absolutely.
- 42:46Speaker 7: Like, the way he's written is very human.
- 42:48Speaker 4: It's because of the responsibility of everything that he knows
- 42:51Speaker 4: and understands about what he's done.
- 42:53Speaker 6: Yet he's totally screwed up on the people.
- 42:55Speaker 3: He owes it to.
- 42:55Speaker 6: Which is why he drinks so much. I mean, it's
- 42:57Speaker 6: a very complex character. That's what I was wondering.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Would they fully commit to the grossness of his face
- 43:05Speaker 3: for live action all the time?
- 43:08Speaker 7: The drooling.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Grossness.
- 43:09Speaker 6: It's just disgusting. That's a big commitment. There's times when
- 43:15Speaker 6: the drool sort of... It's vomitous. Yeah. It also works
- 43:21Speaker 6: as a soul patch.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's its own character in this story.
- 43:26Speaker 10: Right.
- 43:26Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 43:27Speaker 3: That one I was like, that's hard enough to take
- 43:29Speaker 3: in animated form. Live action, that's going to be rough.
- 43:32Speaker 6: But I mean, I think.
- 43:34Speaker 4: which is why I came back to Ian McShane. I
- 43:38Speaker 4: was like, if anybody could pull that off, it'd be
- 43:40Speaker 4: Ian McShane.
- 43:41Speaker 6: Just sort of like dirty, horrible, and yet eloquent and
- 43:47Speaker 6: be able to deliver.
- 43:48Speaker 3: The only one I got to that was like, oh,
- 43:53Speaker 3: we missed that opportunity. I didn't do anything that wasn't
- 43:57Speaker 3: living until I got to Man, Dennis Hopper would have
- 44:00Speaker 3: been great.
- 44:01Speaker 6: Oh, yeah. Crazy late era, but.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Again, super dark. Like, super... Like, the level that he
- 44:09Speaker 3: could do that kind of stuff. Like, yeah. That would
- 44:13Speaker 3: have been pretty amazing.
- 44:14Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 44:15Speaker 6: I can see that. I don't know if I'd go
- 44:17Speaker 6: with that.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 44:20Speaker 6: Which part of it?
- 44:22Speaker 7: The Dennis Hopper part.
- 44:23Speaker 3: But I don't know. But what.
- 44:25Speaker 6: That he's a guy?
- 44:26Speaker 3: Because he was a guy. So that part. So what
- 44:28Speaker 3: part are you not registering with?
- 44:31Speaker 6: The darkness?
- 44:32Speaker 3: Have you seen Frank Booth?
- 44:34Speaker 6: He can do dark. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:35Speaker 7: Because that's one of.
- 44:36Speaker 3: My favorite movies.
- 44:37Speaker 6: He can do dark.
- 44:38Speaker 7: But, you know, if I was going to go from
- 44:40Speaker 7: that same line, I would.
- 44:42Speaker 6: Pick the.
- 44:44Speaker 7: Dude that played Bob in everything in Twin Peaks.
- 44:50Speaker 9: Hang on.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Let me... Now that makes me think.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Rey, like her dad. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 7: He was in all kinds of things.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be good.
- 45:04Speaker 7: Actually, he would make a good... Rey Weiss? Leland Palmer. Yeah.
- 45:13Speaker 3: That's not bad, because he's pretty awesome in general.
- 45:17Speaker 7: Yeah, and because he also has that weird likable that
- 45:20Speaker 7: also creep and old.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Can he pull... That's the thing, like.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Is there a level of Rick that is that likable, though?
- 45:29Speaker 3: Because even when he's being Rick, we like him, but
- 45:32Speaker 3: he's never... Because he could pull off, as Laura Palmer's dad,
- 45:38Speaker 3: he could pull off All-American Dad perfectly. Perfectly.
- 45:41Speaker 6: That I don't know that Rick ever had that much.
- 45:44Speaker 6: Even in the flashbacks, it's kind of like, maybe.
- 45:46Speaker 7: The only reason I say that that's possible is because
- 45:49Speaker 7: I thought he was very good in Jeepers Creepers 2.
- 45:52Speaker 7: As the likable.
- 45:54Speaker 3: See, but again, I don't know that Rick's ever that likable.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Like he can do the dark, like we've seen him
- 46:00Speaker 3: go down that road in Twin Peaks, but like he's
- 46:03Speaker 3: almost too likable to pull off the resting level of
- 46:07Speaker 3: Rick that is unlikable.
- 46:10Speaker 6: To everyone but the audience.
- 46:11Speaker 7: Do you not like Rick?
- 46:13Speaker 3: I do, but I don't think anybody around him likes Rick.
- 46:16Speaker 3: And I think, like, we have to, we, the audience,
- 46:18Speaker 3: are the ones that like Rick. But, like, anybody in
- 46:21Speaker 3: that world, does anybody, other than his weird friends from
- 46:24Speaker 3: other places, but nobody on Earth.
- 46:27Speaker 7: His daughter, she wouldn't put up with him.
- 46:29Speaker 3: No, she still, she's got so many issues. Like, even, like,
- 46:33Speaker 3: even Morty and Summer are. They know better. They want
- 46:38Speaker 3: to like him.
- 46:38Speaker 7: Morty has a complicated relationship and Summer just thinks it's interesting.
- 46:43Speaker 6: But that.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Latter episode where we were dealing with the clone Beths.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Oh, God, that broke my heart.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Well, everybody says, you know, hey, Rick, you deal with
- 46:58Speaker 4: your own fucked up shit.
- 47:00Speaker 6: You know, everybody's like calling him out on it. I
- 47:04Speaker 6: think everybody.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Knows that he's not great by Earth standards. But he
- 47:13Speaker 4: has to deal with both that and the responsibility of
- 47:17Speaker 4: what he knows in the multiverse.
- 47:21Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's so screwed up. The fact that he
- 47:26Speaker 7: has the infinite perspective of the universe and yet makes
- 47:32Speaker 7: the choices that he makes. Who could do that?
- 47:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 47:36Speaker 6: It's really difficult.
- 47:37Speaker 4: That's what makes him an admirable character, is that I
- 47:40Speaker 4: can look at him and go, oh, well, I mean.
- 47:42Speaker 7: And he makes the tough decisions.
- 47:44Speaker 3: To some extent, but at the same time, as time
- 47:47Speaker 3: goes on in the show, I'm like.
- 47:48Speaker 7: You're kind of like, you're just saving your own ass,
- 47:50Speaker 7: and you're an asshole.
- 47:51Speaker 3: And he's also like, because he uses his massive knowledge
- 47:55Speaker 3: of the universe and multi-universes... He also like that's a
- 48:00Speaker 3: get out of jail free card. Like he can do
- 48:02Speaker 3: whatever the hell he wants.
- 48:03Speaker 6: I'll make whatever I need. And have no responsibility.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Like he doesn't worry about the consequences because he knows a.
- 48:09Speaker 6: Way to cheat everything.
- 48:12Speaker 3: And still like I killed my grandson, but I'll go
- 48:15Speaker 3: fix it.
- 48:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:16Speaker 6: Like, there are no stakes to what he does.
- 48:19Speaker 3: That's why there is a power-mad level of him that, like,
- 48:23Speaker 3: you really have to be able to do over the
- 48:25Speaker 3: top to make that kind of realistic.
- 48:27Speaker 7: Well, and it's so weird because it's like, to me,
- 48:30Speaker 7: that episode where Morty says to Summer, I buried my own.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Corpse.
- 48:38Speaker 6: Corpse.
- 48:39Speaker 7: It's in the backyard. It's like he's made that choice
- 48:43Speaker 7: to go along with Rick's crazy ass plan. When really, Rick,
- 48:49Speaker 7: if he knows all, then he could just set everything
- 48:51Speaker 7: back to how it should be. And they could all
- 48:53Speaker 7: have a normal life. And it could be not crazy.
- 48:56Speaker 6: And in an alternate reality, it has happened that way.
- 48:59Speaker 7: Right, but there's no... There is no alternate reality.
- 49:04Speaker 6: We're just not following that story. Every version of a
- 49:07Speaker 6: reality is going on simultaneously.
- 49:09Speaker 7: Everything is happening.
- 49:10Speaker 3: And Rick bastardizes that and uses it to his advantage
- 49:14Speaker 3: to pull from wherever to fix whatever horrible thing he's
- 49:17Speaker 3: done that week. like and he knows that like again
- 49:20Speaker 3: there's just a level of I don't care about him
- 49:24Speaker 3: that like Because he knows what he knows, he knows
- 49:28Speaker 3: how to use that and, again, just bastardize science and
- 49:33Speaker 3: other worlds. Who cares about what the cost? Even to
- 49:37Speaker 3: the other multiverses, he does not care.
- 49:39Speaker 6: On occasion, he still has a level of remorse about
- 49:42Speaker 6: certain things.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:44Speaker 7: But it's so like brief and crazy and weird.
- 49:47Speaker 6: But that's the thing. I feel like you wouldn't keep watching.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Like if it were that dark and there was no
- 49:54Speaker 3: redeeming anything, then it's like, oh, it's funny. But after
- 49:58Speaker 3: a few episodes, you might be like, this is too much.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Like I don't want to come back where I think
- 50:03Speaker 3: it is that vein of every once in a while
- 50:06Speaker 3: when you realize like, oh, he really does kind of
- 50:08Speaker 3: care about Morty. in his way like you have to
- 50:11Speaker 3: kind of slant it a little and be like the
- 50:14Speaker 3: way that he can care about anyone yeah you.
- 50:17Speaker 7: Keep wanting to know if he really cares about his
- 50:19Speaker 7: family or if he only cares about his own survival
- 50:24Speaker 7: yeah and purposes things that he wants to do and
- 50:26Speaker 7: like how that relates to like having his own thing
- 50:29Speaker 7: i mean that's why it's like this constant thing where
- 50:31Speaker 7: you're just like i don't even know what universe i'm
- 50:35Speaker 7: in which is interesting because That they did that episode
- 50:38Speaker 7: that we were talking about with the train and the
- 50:41Speaker 7: self-referential kind of hero story.
- 50:46Speaker 3: The feedback loop.
- 50:47Speaker 7: Yeah, it was just a loop of like, you just
- 50:49Speaker 7: are caught in this. And there's the bigger, what was
- 50:52Speaker 7: the guy? The story, Mr. Story or whatever, that moved
- 50:57Speaker 7: the thing along.
- 50:58Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 50:59Speaker 7: It's so screwed up. And you hate him. And yet
- 51:02Speaker 7: you're like, I'm compelled to watch. And I've never felt
- 51:04Speaker 7: that way about an animated thing. You know, there's things
- 51:08Speaker 7: that I loved about animated things, but this is like.
- 51:11Speaker 6: He's compelling.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Well, I don't think anything is ever this level of dark,
- 51:17Speaker 3: but also this level of like questioning itself, questioning morals,
- 51:22Speaker 3: questioning like... It makes you kind of question things as
- 51:26Speaker 3: the audience. Like most animated shows, even aimed at adults,
- 51:30Speaker 3: just don't dig that deep.
- 51:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 3: And this asks such huge questions that like, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 3: the Simpsons is written for grownups, but, and it might
- 51:39Speaker 3: make an interesting comment that makes you think about it
- 51:41Speaker 3: every once in a while, but nothing that is this big,
- 51:45Speaker 3: nothing that makes you question your own morals.
- 51:48Speaker 7: Your own moral compass.
- 51:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 7: Like what choice would you make if you knew that
- 51:53Speaker 7: your choices had every and no consequence?
- 51:57Speaker 3: No.
- 51:57Speaker 7: Like that's the thing.
- 51:59Speaker 4: And, and, and also that the story, as a whole
- 52:04Speaker 4: is rooted in this, you know, theoretical science that, you know,
- 52:10Speaker 4: we've all kind of touched upon with, you know, theoretical
- 52:12Speaker 4: physics and everything that we know today.
- 52:16Speaker 6: It's interesting.
- 52:17Speaker 4: It brings up real philosophical and moral questions that, we're
- 52:26Speaker 4: not probably ready to answer yet as a society, but
- 52:29Speaker 4: we're ready to question.
- 52:31Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 52:32Speaker 6: Cause we're ready to question them.
- 52:33Speaker 7: But really, I mean, it does. It's like, if you
- 52:36Speaker 7: could make the most moral or the least moral, like
- 52:40Speaker 7: answer to a question. What happens if you pick both?
- 52:45Speaker 6: I don't know. I can't remember what episode.
- 52:47Speaker 4: It's one of the last ones, but it involves the
- 52:51Speaker 4: invisibility belt. Have you seen the one with the invisibility belt?
- 52:54Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 52:56Speaker 6: There's a show ender after the credits run. They did
- 52:59Speaker 6: a show ender. What's the husband's name?
- 53:06Speaker 3: Jerry? Jerry.
- 53:08Speaker 4: Jerry has the invisibility belt and he's like, okay, invisibility belt,
- 53:14Speaker 4: we're done. And he throws it into the garbage and
- 53:16Speaker 4: then the garbage truck comes and puts it in the
- 53:18Speaker 4: back of the garbage truck and the whole truck disappears.
- 53:22Speaker 6: And the guys in the truck are like, wait a minute,
- 53:25Speaker 6: what just happened to me?
- 53:26Speaker 7: And then they hit a guy.
- 53:28Speaker 6: No, and they jump out. They're like, oh God.
- 53:31Speaker 4: So they jump out of the truck and then this
- 53:33Speaker 4: guy in a Corvette is driving along and Jerry's like, wait, stop,
- 53:38Speaker 4: there's an invisible garbage truck.
- 53:40Speaker 6: And he's like, yeah, whatever. And he runs right to
- 53:42Speaker 6: the back of it and it explodes and disappears. And
- 53:46Speaker 6: then the guy was like, whoa, what just happened? And
- 53:50Speaker 6: then the car explodes and invisible and the guy dies.
- 53:54Speaker 6: And then Jerry takes the garbage truck and goes on
- 53:58Speaker 6: this vigilante thing.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Where he's like picking up pimps.
- 54:05Speaker 6: And putting them in the back of the truck.
- 54:09Speaker 4: Until he runs out of gas, which is the punchline.
- 54:14Speaker 4: He runs out of gas and he can't find the tank. Anyway,
- 54:19Speaker 4: long story short, it's those moral dilemmas and the adventure
- 54:26Speaker 4: of you know, discovering those along the way, like the
- 54:35Speaker 4: new ways that you can discover them.
- 54:37Speaker 7: And sometimes the most moral choice you make would be
- 54:40Speaker 7: the best. And then other times, like it's the worst,
- 54:44Speaker 7: it's the worst. And then sometimes it doesn't matter. Right.
- 54:47Speaker 6: Like that's the thing where Morty saves the gaseous cloud.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Yeah. This is how I think the universe works. Like,
- 54:54Speaker 3: I think it is one of those, like it looks
- 54:56Speaker 3: at all. It's like, we make good decisions, we make
- 54:58Speaker 3: bad decisions.
- 54:59Speaker 6: And then sometimes shit just happens.
- 55:01Speaker 3: It like, Regardless of what you want from it, regardless
- 55:04Speaker 3: of what outcome it's going to have for you or
- 55:06Speaker 3: other people, it's like, I think it kind of addresses
- 55:09Speaker 3: all of those things on different episodes. Yes.
- 55:13Speaker 6: Sometimes if we consciously make an effort, it is the
- 55:16Speaker 6: worst possible decision we can make.
- 55:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 55:20Speaker 3: And occasionally your best effort to help someone does, and
- 55:24Speaker 3: sometimes it does not matter.
- 55:26Speaker 5: Right.
- 55:26Speaker 3: And horrible things still happen.
- 55:28Speaker 5: Right.
- 55:28Speaker 7: Right.
- 55:29Speaker 3: That's interesting. Here's the big question that I hadn't thought
- 55:34Speaker 3: about until we got midway into this. So we figured
- 55:37Speaker 3: out some casting options. Who's directing this movie?
- 55:41Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 55:42Speaker 3: This kind of a story, how do you just give it?
- 55:46Speaker 3: You can't just turn it over to random anybody.
- 55:49Speaker 4: I think if we've established anything at this point, it's
- 55:52Speaker 4: that Jon Favreau should be directing it.
- 55:57Speaker 6: Um.
- 55:58Speaker 3: I mean, I won't put anything past him. I like
- 56:01Speaker 3: some Jon Favreau, but that's a very different direction than
- 56:04Speaker 3: anything he's done.
- 56:05Speaker 7: Well, I would say who I think, but you all
- 56:08Speaker 7: would go, meh, and you would go, meh.
- 56:11Speaker 6: All right, get ready to meh.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Who is it?
- 56:13Speaker 7: Take a guess.
- 56:14Speaker 3: I don't know who it is.
- 56:18Speaker 7: Waiting, waiting.
- 56:19Speaker 6: Go for it.
- 56:20Speaker 7: Do a no. Really? Yeah.
- 56:24Speaker 6: You've got a... A go-to director that I would think.
- 56:27Speaker 7: Yeah, for like weird shit.
- 56:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:29Speaker 7: That can do a good job.
- 56:32Speaker 6: Brett Radner. No! Your beloved director.
- 56:36Speaker 9: What?
- 56:37Speaker 10: No!
- 56:37Speaker 3: You made his guess.
- 56:38Speaker 6: It's your own fault. Go, Moeller. I don't have anything.
- 56:42Speaker 7: Taika Waititi.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Oh.
- 56:45Speaker 6: Definitely gets the sense of humor.
- 56:48Speaker 7: Taika Waititi could do that.
- 56:51Speaker 10: Hmm.
- 56:52Speaker 6: I'm trying to decide if he gets.
- 56:55Speaker 6: Again, most of his stuff definitely has a twisted sense
- 56:59Speaker 6: of humor.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Does it ever go that dark? Even in what we
- 57:04Speaker 3: do in the shadows, maybe Jojo Rabbit.
- 57:07Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's the thing. It's not the ability to
- 57:09Speaker 7: go dark. It's the ability to also pull in the sweetness.
- 57:15Speaker 6: Yeah, to ride the line and say, oh, this is a.
- 57:19Speaker 4: Story about a grandfather and his grandchildren and their beloved
- 57:24Speaker 4: story as they tear the entire universe apart.
- 57:27Speaker 7: The fabric of the universe and what that means.
- 57:32Speaker 6: That could be sold. I could picture that.
- 57:34Speaker 7: And I guess that's what I love about... You.
- 57:36Speaker 6: Said I'd mwah you.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Meh.
- 57:37Speaker 7: I thought everybody would mwah me.
- 57:40Speaker 10: No.
- 57:41Speaker 7: But I really think you could do a good job
- 57:42Speaker 7: of that.
- 57:43Speaker 6: I appreciate that.
- 57:44Speaker 3: He's just super talented anyway, so.
- 57:46Speaker 7: Yeah, but he's got a good.
- 57:47Speaker 6: And it's also like, that's the thing.
- 57:49Speaker 3: I'm pulling from bigger directors, but they're also so much
- 57:54Speaker 3: older that they're going to take a different, it's a
- 57:55Speaker 3: totally different take on it, where he's up and coming enough,
- 57:59Speaker 3: like it's still kind of in that same running as
- 58:02Speaker 3: where Rick and Morty is now.
- 58:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Because it would be weird to like, what's Scorsese's take
- 58:07Speaker 3: on Rick and Morty?
- 58:08Speaker 7: It would be like the weird, dark thing.
- 58:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be dark, but I don't know
- 58:12Speaker 3: that you could pull off the other end of it.
- 58:16Speaker 7: And only like I think there's plenty of other like
- 58:20Speaker 7: women that could do it but I also think of
- 58:22Speaker 7: him as having something to do with like Thor you
- 58:26Speaker 7: know so he's had the idea of other worlds other
- 58:31Speaker 7: dimensions and also having to work in the J.J.
- 58:34Speaker 6: Abrams I don't think J.J.
- 58:37Speaker 3: Abrams would make a good based on the reference earlier
- 58:41Speaker 3: how about Bong Joon-ho Snowpiercer.
- 58:44Speaker 7: Yeah, well.
- 58:44Speaker 6: Snowpiercer director. As twisted as Parasite is.
- 58:51Speaker 3: No! He can bring a weird, random edge to it.
- 58:54Speaker 7: But I need that sweetness. And I think Taika Waititi
- 58:58Speaker 7: is good at catching.
- 58:59Speaker 6: He definitely has that. I think what I've seen, what
- 59:02Speaker 6: little I've.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Seen of Bong juho if he has that in him
- 59:05Speaker 3: and i to me.
- 59:06Speaker 10: The sweetness like i think there is no like parasite
- 59:09Speaker 10: like the moments between like the brother and sister like
- 59:11Speaker 10: there's definitely like that's that's definitely got that's not a
- 59:15Speaker 10: horrible option either really it's.
- 59:17Speaker 7: Not a bad option but also that weird just kind
- 59:23Speaker 7: of uh You know, it's not so direct with some
- 59:27Speaker 7: of his things, with Taika Waititi's things. Like, it's kind
- 59:29Speaker 7: of unexpected, and it's not as.
- 59:33Speaker 3: Okay, now I'm thinking, what if we hand off, now
- 59:36Speaker 3: that we're going to do a whole series, obviously. So
- 59:38Speaker 3: when we get to the post-apocalyptic, graft an arm on yourself,
- 59:44Speaker 3: we give it to George Miller. Then we go, alright,
- 59:47Speaker 3: go ahead and do your thing that you want to do.
- 59:50Speaker 6: We want to see your Fury Road version.
- 59:52Speaker 7: Of Max, Rick, and Morty.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 59:55Speaker 7: I don't want to see that.
- 59:57Speaker 3: Think how gory and realistic it would be. Man.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't want to see that. I don't think
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: I want to see that. You know, that Fury Road
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: was awesome. But I don't want that to be Rick
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: and Morty.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, there is a chaos element
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: to Rick and Morty that George Miller definitely gets. Again,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: I don't know that he can swing it. But, I mean,
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: the director of Babe? The director of Happy Feet? Like,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: you're telling me he can't do a sweeter side?
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: That is crazy.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it not insane that those are
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: all made by the same man?
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: That's ridiculous.
- 1:00:33Speaker 11: But.
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: That might be the guy.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: That might be the guy. I mean, he definitely, if
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: we're handing him off, if we're doing a running series
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: and we want to give it to different directors, he's like.
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: The James Bond. Every once in a while we just
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: change up directors and like.
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: That's actually really good because I forgot about that.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: It's not bad.
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: How is that the same person?
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: I think that most days of my life, I stop
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: for a minute and be like, really?
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: Because it makes.
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: You not feel so weird for thinking, I hope that
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: person gets run over for going too fast.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Oh, and I hope he ends up in a barn
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: with a talking pig.
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: Makes it all okay.
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: Oh, and I've had moments lately and we'd be like,
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: why is that guy going so fast? And I'd say, yeah,
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: we should get in like a one-person car wreck.
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: It just hits a tree.
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: I feel bad, and yet I don't. I just want
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: to see what happens.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Here we go. And I hadn't thought of it, but
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: the more I'm going into it, Jordan Peele. He likes dark.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: He likes horror. He definitely has his basis in comedy. Yeah.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: The sweet, but I.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Mean, he did Keanu. That kid, he's adorable.
- 1:01:44Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: Yeah, that's good.
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: It's not a terrible option either.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: No.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: Not at all. I think that I always end up
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: on the Taika Waititi end of things because he is
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: like a Maori Jew, which is fascinating to me. It's
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: like a weird half Jewish family, like new world, old
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: world guilt.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: I'm now trying to, I'm trying to picture a Shane
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Black version. Where they're more like buddies. A buddy cop
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: version of Rick and Morty.
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: Oh my God. This should just be his own episode
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: of Rick and Morty where they have like a buddy
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: cop show.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I mean, well, they kind of like the Morty's killing Morty's.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: I mean, that's a fucked up. Like that's the one
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: like midway in, like is it never really returned to
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: a regular episode? I'm like, so are we just, I
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: guess we're the whole, okay. And like by the end
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: it is so dark and I'm just like, That was.
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: The entire episode. Wait, which one?
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: The whole alternate universe where it's nothing but Ricks and
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Mortys and Mortys killing Mortys. You know, like it is
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: a dark.
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: Oh my God. And at the end, Morty is here.
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: It is a dark fucking episode.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: He goes into the room full of Mortys. Yeah. I'm
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: just like, that one was one of the ones.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: Because it never had even the framework of a regular episode.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: Like it was just immersed in an alternate universe story
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: of Ricks and Mortys.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: And like it just.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: It is, yeah. That's when you realize you're watching a
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: different kind of a show.
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: Yeah, there's been a couple episodes where I've been like.
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: I think one of my favorites is Pickle Rick. Pickle Rick!
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: I was trying to think, how do you cast the
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: Pickle Rick movie? Like, we have to have a spinoff
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: movie that's just the Pickle Rick episode taken to full length.
- 1:03:34Speaker 10: Really?
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: You think Pickle Rick is a whole episode?
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: Pickle Rick is... I loved it the first time, and
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: then the more I watched it... It is its own movie.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: I forget how many other things are going on in
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: that episode, but I'm.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: Just like, this is a huge story.
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: But I just love... No, it's like, to me, the
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: idea of Pickle Rick is like Pickle Rick transcends whatever
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: is happening. He doesn't want to be there, so he
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: turns himself into a pickle.
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: Like, I know that feeling.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Again, that is the bastard level of Rick. He is
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: willing to go to that length.
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: I would rather turn myself into a pickle than go
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: to some family functions. I mean, honestly, I'd be like,
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: I'm Pickle Rick, bitch! Like, that is what appealed to
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: me about that.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: So, my question... That.
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: He was willing to be Pickle Rick to avoid all
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: the other things going on.
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: So, the average... episode is, what, 30 minutes long?
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: 20-something.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: Two with commercials. There's a lot that happens in that
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: 30 minutes.
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Because of the rapid-fire delivery, a single episode, like Pickle Rick.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: For example, you could turn that into a full-feature film
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: As that single episode.
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: Yes, but to me, what I'm saying is the genius
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: of it is that he hated every situation that he
- 1:05:03Speaker 7: could have foreseen in his infinite rickness that he would
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: rather turn himself into a pickle.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Well, him turning himself into a pickle was meant to be...
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: very temporary, and turned into a long-term scenario.
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: But it precedes any kind of scenario that he knew
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: or imagined. He would rather take the risk of being
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: Pickle Rick than go into counseling.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: But again, that's just the epic selfishness and self-centered attitude
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: of Rick.
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: Who has not been a Pickle Rick, though? I mean,
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: I've been a Pickle Rick. Haven't we all?
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Rather. I think we're learning equally as much about you
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: in this episode.
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: I'd rather be a Pickle... That got washed out into the, like,
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: whatever and picked up by a bird.
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: Yes, I feigned being a zombie to get out of things.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: Yeah, and then have to do some of the things
- 1:06:01Speaker 7: we had to do.
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: No, no, nobody?
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: You wouldn't be Pickle Rick?
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: I feel like it's.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Not the most level-headed plan of Rick's. And he's had
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: some pretty out-there plans.
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: But.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: It's a pretty good.
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: Chance, knowing how much they.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: By that season, they know what he's up to, and
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: they could look up and be like, huh.
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: Why is that up there?
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: You know what, Rick, you bastard? How about if I
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: just take this with me?
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: Yeah, or I'm just gonna take this pickle with me. Whatever,
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: you're Pickle Rick. I'm gonna take... But the thing is, like.
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: It shows how little he thought of his family. That's
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: what I'm saying. I can get away with this.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: I can get away with anything. To me, it's.
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: Like that his best situation... was his worst situation to
- 1:06:46Speaker 7: make him turn into a pickle. That is the best
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: scenario he could have.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Come up with.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: Do you cast differently as Pickle Rick?
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: No, I don't.
- 1:06:54Speaker 10: No.
- 1:06:55Speaker 9: I don't.
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: Pickle Rick is just.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Dwayne Johnson is Pickle Rick. Because it's a pretty big
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: action movie.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: By that goes on.
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: Pickle Rick rolls out on you.
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Fantastic.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: I do want to announce the Morty's Killing Morty's episode.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: I now want to see a Denise Villeneuve.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: Directed version of it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: I mean, that alternate universe by the guy who did
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Blade Runner 2049. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: I kind of want to see a.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Real world visualization of all of this.
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: Oh God, that's so disturbing.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: That's not bad either. I want to see that. Let's see.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: So that's the thing. Maybe we just give each director
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: an episode to then like re-envision.
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: Oh, that's a good idea.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: This has kind of got potential. I want to see this.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Which one do we give Catherine Bigelow? Interesting. Interesting. Yeah. Hmm.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Trying to think.
- 1:07:59Speaker 10: Oh, man.
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: Oh, God, that's a good.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: Maybe like the wedding party one where everybody comes in
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: and gets massacred.
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: Bird person.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: Bird person.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: Bird person.
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: Who's bird person? I love bird person.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: I love Tammy. All right, here's another.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Well, that's too bad because I killed her. Which episode
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: do you give Edgar Wright? Because that's, I think, a
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: pretty good option, too.
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: And what did Edgar Wright do?
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: Oh, he did the whole trilogy.
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: Tornado trilogy oh my.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: God but he's got again like even his other stuff
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: like looking at what he can do with like like
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: even baby driver is so well orchestrated for the like
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: crazy stuff that he's planning oh.
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: My god that is such a good question So, here's
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: the thing. I've heard so many, like, critics say that
- 1:09:09Speaker 7: they don't like the current season and the season before
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: as much, but I think that they're... equally as good
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: as the earlier seasons.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: Like Rick and Morty?
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: Yeah. I think there's a lot going on.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: There's always a lot going on with Rick and Morty.
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: But still quality, you know, not just like random. Like
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: I can't separate myself from it to be like, well,
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: the first season was good, but whatever. Like they're all good.
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: Oh no, they're all good.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: You know, and you get to see the development of
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: all the different characters.
- 1:09:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: I think that that's what makes it good. well-rounded series.
- 1:09:45Speaker 7: I do think they get darker. Some of them get
- 1:09:48Speaker 7: darker and harder as the seasons go on. There's always.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: There's always at least one per season that's very dark.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: Like I said, I think it also wears on you
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: the longer it goes on because you realize how much
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: Morty is continuing to take. This abuse that he takes
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: and then how much Rick doesn't care and continues to
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: do what he wants to do.
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: Like, I think if I had to pick the Edgar
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: Wright episode or the series, it would be the center
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: story would be the party that they have where he
- 1:10:21Speaker 7: sends them off to get like the whatever it is.
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: And then he snorts it like after they nearly kill themselves.
- 1:10:29Speaker 7: And he's like, whoa, it's a party.
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: Oh, the house party.
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: Like that whole house party, the one before it, the
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: house party, and the one after that are kind of.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: I was initially going to give it to a different director,
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: but is it really funny to do the dream within
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: a dream within a dream and give it to Nolan? Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: It feels like it's too easy.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: Is that the one with the nightmare on the street
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: or anything?
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: Okay. You can't give it to Wes.
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: No.
- 1:10:59Speaker 10: But.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: My first thought on that one was Guillermo del Toro
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: doing the Dream World. That's pretty creepy. I'd be okay
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: with that.
- 1:11:09Speaker 7: I thought he would be good with the latest Facehuckers one,
- 1:11:13Speaker 7: to tell you the truth. I love the Facehuckers one.
- 1:11:17Speaker 7: I don't know why.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: Do we let Tarantino do?
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: What the hell is he going to do? Drag him
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: out of retirement to do... He's not He thinks he is.
- 1:11:30Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: He likes to tease that for the last decade.
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: Yeah, so which Tarantino, which ones would you pick for Tarantino?
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: God, I mean, the facehugger thing, I think, would have
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: been a good one.
- 1:11:44Speaker 7: I don't know why that one is so good. I
- 1:11:46Speaker 7: think it's just because they're so shocked that she is, like,
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: in control.
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Maybe he's the pickle rick.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: Pickle Rick. He's Pickle Rick.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: Watch Tarantino do the Pickle Rick episode.
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: There's a lot of gunplay.
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of gunplay, a lot of martial arts.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: There's potential there.
- 1:12:07Speaker 11: Or the, well, I don't know.
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: That's the multi-Marty one where it's like they kill the-
- 1:12:19Speaker 9: the dudes and are like, all right, tell my family
- 1:12:22Speaker 9: I love them.
- 1:12:22Speaker 7: And you're like, oh God, like the bug dudes. And
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: you're just like, that's so sad and dark.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: All of that stuff is just dark. Keep breathing.
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: Just hang out with me. He's like.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: Now I'm thinking of weird offshoot, like directors that are
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: their own thing. What episode is the Wes Anderson movie?
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: I'm not trying to picture a Wes Anderson fronted.
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: Rick and Morty.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Although, it's so twisted. His worlds get so weird and
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: twisted in almost the older ones. I feel like he's
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: leveled out a little more as he's gotten older, but
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: the weird cold family of the Royal Tenenbaums is not
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: that far off of what's going on with them.
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: The hotel one. Is more so removed, but the Royal
- 1:13:19Speaker 7: Tenenbaums is not.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: See, I think the hotel went better put together as characters.
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: Oh, I do too, but I think if you're talking.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: Rick and Morty, the Royal Tenenbaums.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Yeah, Rick and Morty, I think it's way more appropriate
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: for a Royal Tenenbaums. It's way darker.
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:13:37Speaker 7: I mean, that's a great question.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: We need to think on that. If we give Linkletter one,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: we've just got to watch Morty grow up.
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: Oh, look, now he's 30.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: Well, that would be the one with the, like, well,
- 1:13:48Speaker 7: you did pretty good on that game.
- 1:13:53Speaker 6: Blips and shits. Blips and shits!
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: I don't even know which one, but I really want
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: to see Coen Brothers. How you filter the Coen Brothers
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: through some Rick and Morty.
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: The one with the.
- 1:14:11Speaker 6: You know, where the dog universe... Oh, God.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: I can't remember the name of the episode where the
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: dogs don the robotic exoskeleton.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: That's a weird choice for the Coen brothers, but.
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: Why not? I mean, I'd watch.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: Why not?
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: Morty, you will be my right-hand person.
- 1:14:33Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, who would do Anatomy Park?
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, that's a good one, too.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: Which one is.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: The anatomy park where Morty gets injected into the body
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: of the hobo dressed as Santa.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: I think that's the giant floating Santa.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: What's the giant floating naked man? Which episode is that?
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Oh. I don't remember.
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: That's like the first season, isn't it?
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: Anatomy park.
- 1:15:04Speaker 7: I think that might be the blips and chits in
- 1:15:06Speaker 7: the same era. No.
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: Oh, same era, yeah. Same season, yeah. I think so. Yeah,
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Anatomy Park, they're like combating hepatitis C. And you're not
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: ringing any bells?
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe, like I've seen most of them,
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: but this last one, they still haven't come out where
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: you can watch most of them yet.
- 1:15:29Speaker 7: It's that same idea of like you start in one place.
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: And you end up in another.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: We watched the latest episodes on Sling, but the The earlier, what,
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: season one through three is on Hulu.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: Most of them lend themselves to David Lowery.
- 1:15:47Speaker 7: And David Lynch.
- 1:15:49Speaker 10: Oh, Lord.
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: That would be interesting.
- 1:15:52Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: If there were no redeeming sweetness to it, it.
- 1:16:00Speaker 10: Would be dangerous.
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: There's like a weird.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: Vein of hope that runs in his stuff, but it's
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: buried in the darkness.
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: It's deep down there.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: So, what's our takeaway on this?
- 1:16:14Speaker 7: Well, you know.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of potential is what we've learned.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: As much as it seems like a terrible idea.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: It.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: Is a movie-making goldmine.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: I mean, there's just so much to work with in
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: that basic material. As long as somebody is committed to
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: doing something interesting... Like, I would want.
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: To watch it. All of the stories are worth making.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Yeah. Really.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: Because you don't have to know the history of any
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: of the characters to understand that, you know, A, Rick
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: is a mad scientist who is also an asshole. B,
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: Morty is a teenage, you know, idiot.
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: And Summer is, you know, an older teenage idiot. And
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: then Beth... and uh.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Well jerry's got issues i can't remember jerry's name because
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: he's forgettable and here's the thing.
- 1:17:15Speaker 7: Like you're you're still working in that same paradigm you
- 1:17:19Speaker 7: know the uh you're still working in the same hero
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: paradigm in all of those things and like their journey you.
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: Know even when the character himself is not really a
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: hero but it's but it's pretty occasionally he pulls it
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: out where you're like oh Well, I guess I don't
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: hate him now.
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: But it's pretty easy to establish those roles very quickly
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: so that you could just go, you know, any episode
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: could turn into a full-length movie.
- 1:17:47Speaker 7: Because it's the same story where it's like the beginning
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: and the story and the redemption, even if the redemption
- 1:17:56Speaker 7: is not that much.
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: Pretty easy. I mean, you could turn 30 minutes into
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: two hours very easily. It's just.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: It's weird that it works as well as it does
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: even within this scenario because he is, again, having like,
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: even in the world of anti-heroes that we have, few
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: of them are as dark and twisted as Rick is.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: That's true. It's true.
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: Which is why I would watch it.
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: I'm all for it. So let's see if we can
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: put this together.
- 1:18:26Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: All right. Absolutely.
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: Sign me up. I'll get a hold of all these directors.
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: I'll be in the focus group. We'll start doctoring up
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: the screenplays.
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: So we have this idea and also substituting one person's
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: career for the other person's career.
- 1:18:40Speaker 6: That's genius. We've got a.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: Lot to work on.
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: A lot to put together. So we'll continue on and
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: come back with more ridiculous ideas in the future.
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: Yeah we'll ramble forever but.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Yeah but for now i'd say we should wrap it
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: up and just go sit and think about all these
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: ideas yeah thanks for listening let them fester.
- 1:19:02Speaker 7: Thanks for hanging out hopefully you.
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: Guys too these things we say will fester in your
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: mind and.
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: You So let us know who you.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: Want to direct which episode and how you want to
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: elaborate on some of these stories.
- 1:19:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I want to know that. I want to know
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: what people think. I have opinions that mean nothing. I
- 1:19:21Speaker 7: want to know other people's opinions.
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: And I'm sure other people have them.
- 1:19:26Speaker 7: And these are things that don't matter, and it's not
- 1:19:28Speaker 7: life or death, so it's nice.
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: Yeah, no one's going to die because of these opinions.
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: Good times.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: And I feel like a lot of this probably won't
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: get made, so we're safe. Because I'm afraid of what
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: would happen if they did. Because I feel like they'll
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: bungle it like every other.
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: Maybe we need to make it.
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: Yeah, but here's the thing. Then we have the whole
- 1:19:47Speaker 7: idea of sitting at this table and going, we had
- 1:19:50Speaker 7: that idea. They totally screwed it up.
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: I can't believe Dan Harmon stole our idea of doing
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: the thing that he already came up with.
- 1:19:58Speaker 7: Dan Harmon stole our idea of the idea that he
- 1:20:01Speaker 7: already had. But we had the better idea that it
- 1:20:04Speaker 7: was his idea.
- 1:20:04Speaker 9: No?
