- 0:01Hello. Welcome to the No God Coach
- 0:02Huddle for May 15, 2025. Your two-minute
- 0:06play of the day for applying God's word
- 0:09in your life. So, let's huddle up and
- 0:10hear today's play from Acts 16, which
- 0:14says, "Paul came to Derby and then to
- 0:16Lystra where a disciple named Timothy
- 0:18lived whose mother was Jewish and a
- 0:20believer, but whose father was a Greek.
- 0:23Paul wanted to take him along on a
- 0:25journey. So he circumcised him because
- 0:27of the Jews who lived in that area. For
- 0:29they all knew that his father was a
- 0:30Greek. As they traveled from town to
- 0:32town, they delivered the decisions
- 0:34reached by the apostles and elders in
- 0:36Jerusalem for the people to obey. So the
- 0:39churches were strengthened in the faith
- 0:40and grew daily in
- 0:42numbers. In the previous chapter of
- 0:44Acts, a controversy of significance
- 0:46occurred between Jewish and Gentile
- 0:49believers. The controversy is over how
- 0:51much of the Old Testament law New
- 0:54Testament believers were obligated to
- 0:56follow. The conclusion Paul reached and
- 0:58wrote was for the church to avoid sexual
- 1:01immorality. Yet immediately following
- 1:03this controversy, Paul circumcises
- 1:06Timothy, the very thing the Jewish
- 1:08Christians wanted in the first place,
- 1:10rather than deferring to the decision
- 1:12made by the apostles. Why? Because we
- 1:16are free in Christ from the law before
- 1:18Christ. But this freedom is for obeying
- 1:20God and helping others to do the same.
- 1:23This freedom allows us to follow the law
- 1:25to win those under the law while
- 1:27allowing us to ignore the law but not
- 1:29the law of love for Jesus and obedience
- 1:31to his commands among those who have no
- 1:34law. Biblical freedom is not for is the
- 1:38blessing of go is not the blessing of
- 1:40God to do as we please but the power of
- 1:43God to do as needed for winning and
- 1:45discipling people. We are free from
- 1:48man-made religion for appeasing God
- 1:50since God himself pleased God on behalf
- 1:53of man and appropriates to all men who
- 1:55love him his perfect righteousness. This
- 1:58freedom is for obeying Christ in spirit
- 2:01and truth. For we have been purchased by
- 2:03Christ's blood. We are now his slaves,
- 2:05his servants to do his will in the
- 2:08world. We are free from our sinful
- 2:10nature to live according to the spirit.
- 2:12Biblical freedom is never wanting
- 2:14self-serving permission to gratify our
- 2:17flesh. Biblical freedom is power and
- 2:20permission to obey God in all ways that
- 2:23help all men come to believe and obey
- 2:25Jesus as Lord and Savior of the world.
