- 0:02It is an obvious fact that as one grows and develops in the
- 0:06spiritual path, the concentration of conscious force
- 0:11to Pussia will definitely increase not only the spiritual
- 0:15development but also the powers that the individual has
- 0:19available to accomplish action in his life in the world.
- 0:24In the past, when spirituality was bifurcated from the outer
- 0:29life, seekers were advised not to utilize the various powers
- 0:34that arose. There was a fear, not without
- 0:38some basis, that seekers would become distracted and chase
- 0:42after the fruits of the worldly life and thereby lose the needed
- 0:46focus and attention on the spiritual path they were
- 0:49following. For similar reasons, seekers
- 0:53were asked to take vows of poverty, chastity, and humble
- 0:57subservience so as to keep them tied to a fixed path without
- 1:02deviation due to the action of desire.
- 1:05Of course, this disregarded the idea of transforming the outer
- 1:10life into something that expressed the spirit fully and
- 1:13completely, inwardly and outwardly.
- 1:18For those seekers who recognize that this is an artificial
- 1:21separation, a form of duality that treated matter and spirit
- 1:25as opposites and antagonists to one another, such a solution of
- 1:30abandonment of the outer life turned out to be unsatisfactory.
- 1:36Transformation of the outer life, however, necessarily
- 1:40involves deploying powers of action that develop along the
- 1:43way as part of a natural evolutionary process, albeit
- 1:49through an inward dedication and discipline that did not fall
- 1:54prey to the promptings or enticements of desire or the
- 2:03motives of gaining power, wealth or sexual satisfaction, fame, or
- 2:10any kind of self aggrandizement. We come then to the question of
- 2:16distinguishing the development and exercise of power that stems
- 2:20from the spiritual growth, from the practice of the forms of
- 2:24magic that represent an attempt to gain results in the world
- 2:28through mental and vital means, with a self seeking motive in
- 2:32the background. Magic based in the use of
- 2:36specific words, forms, gestures and strict adherence to a set
- 2:42methodology of invoking the forces or entities that manifest
- 2:46the forces, always carries with it both desire on the one side
- 2:52and fear on the other. Goethe in Faust explores the
- 2:58experience of a man who developed skills in all manner
- 3:01of Arts and Sciences and at one point explored the field of
- 3:06magic. He was able to invoke a being
- 3:10that was greater than he could control and he re reacted with
- 3:14both awe and fear to the invoked presence.
- 3:19He later was taken by the hand through a life that tried to
- 3:22satisfy his every whim and desire, which took advantage of
- 3:26his developed powers to 1st and find enjoyment.
- 3:31He is said in the writing to be guided by the devil who had made
- 3:35a wager with God that hit this striving soul could be
- 3:39corrupted. Eventually, however, he
- 3:43recognizes the limits of that life and refuses to be satisfied
- 3:47with the fruits of a life of fulfilled desire, and he was
- 3:52saved and protected. The story illustrates to a great
- 3:57degree the difference between the sterile and limited
- 3:59practices of magic and the unlimited and spontaneous action
- 4:04of spiritual force in shaping a life and a soul's destiny.
- 4:10Magic feeds on the vital impulses of desire and fear and
- 4:14creates a type of magnetism that attracts the forces that support
- 4:20and then feed upon the individual's vital expression.
- 4:26The mother observes quote to act in order to accomplish a work
- 4:31with the spontaneous powers of spiritual realization.
- 4:35That is well understood, but one may say that everybody does that
- 4:40because just the fact of thinking means that you are
- 4:43acting invisibly and according to the power of your thought,
- 4:47your action is more or less widespread.
- 4:50But to use small magical formulas to obtain a result is
- 4:54something that has no true relation with the spiritual
- 4:57life. From the spiritual point of
- 5:00view, it appears even surprising that these things can always
- 5:06prove effective, because for each case the need is different
- 5:11and how putting together certain words and making certain signs
- 5:16can always have an effect seems surprising.
- 5:20When one wants to act spiritually and for some reason
- 5:23or other it is necessary, for example, to formulate words.
- 5:27The words come spontaneously and are exactly the words needed for
- 5:32the particular occasion, but things written beforehand, which
- 5:36one repeats mechanically most of the time, without even knowing
- 5:41what one is saying and why one is saying it.
- 5:44It is difficult to see how this can always work.
- 5:49There is bound to be a great imprecision in the action, and
- 5:53one thing is certain, that this same formula cannot have exactly
- 5:58the same effect, and that one factor is indispensable for it
- 6:03to take effect. Fear.
- 6:06The first thing is a kind of fear, a fright created in the
- 6:10person against whom the magic is done for.
- 6:15If he has No Fear, I am quite sure that I cannot have any
- 6:21effect, or has so ridiculously small an effect that it's not
- 6:26worth speaking about it. What opens the door to the
- 6:30action of these forces is fear, a kind of apprehension, the
- 6:34feeling that something is going to happen.
- 6:37And it is these vibrations of fear which put out certain
- 6:41forces from you, forces which give these entities the power to
- 6:45act. End Quote.
