- 0:00All right, folks, BDP episode 4700.
- 0:04I don't know how many episodes, but it's a good day.
- 0:08We got a couple guests. Actually, everyone here has been
- 0:11a guest on the podcast once before.
- 0:13Tove has been on the podcast. David has been on at least one
- 0:16time, twice, 2 Times Now. We got a second timer, a third
- 0:21timer, third time and then the hosts of the show.
- 0:25So what we were we were just have an interesting talk right
- 0:27before this podcast started that I kind of want to get into You
- 0:30were we were talking a little bit about string jumps and what
- 0:34do you think? It's a good topic, huh?
- 0:36It is. It really helps a lot to film
- 0:40stuff and you get the real picture of string jump and in my
- 0:47after watching it several times and watching it drop.
- 0:50Were. A spotted shot is coming in
- 0:54money right at the heart and the animal jumps and I've seen them
- 1:00being spined. I've seen that and I've seen
- 1:05them just totally being gone. I mean this shit.
- 1:07The arrow was perfect, but the animals not there anymore.
- 1:11So my conclusion doing this a little while is try to expect
- 1:18that. And of course there's, there's
- 1:20supposed to be a big difference between the alert animal that's
- 1:23looking at you versus one that is not.
- 1:27And, and I think that's true, but there's other theories on
- 1:31that. But if it's going for the heart,
- 1:35my theory is aim low. If you know it's going to be a
- 1:38lethal shot, aim way down in the pocket and it compensates
- 1:42because they'll drop and you get a little forgiveness of the drop
- 1:46and you could still hit the hearts.
- 1:48And that's, that's sort of a summary of what's going on, what
- 1:53I think. What do you think about that
- 1:55summary Big D that was kind of you two were the catalyst of
- 1:58that discussion, so. What do you think?
- 2:01I always get a kick out of those Instagram posts where they show
- 2:04the animal and then they break it down by like quadrant.
- 2:08Right. Like, yeah, ABCDEFGHD, you know
- 2:12all of that. And it's just like, I don't
- 2:15know, because as like mostly a whitetail hunter, I have never
- 2:19shot an arrow at a mule deer before.
- 2:23I, I honestly think like it's not actually on the animal.
- 2:27It's like below the animal. There should be another quadrant
- 2:31where they're, it's below their animal because I actually have
- 2:34footage of me shooting at a shooting at a buck where it's,
- 2:43it's at 3535 to 38 yards or something like that.
- 2:48So it's, it's not a, it's not a poke.
- 2:51And the, the deer is got its nose in the ground looking for
- 2:55acorns. Some, you know, anything that's
- 2:58dropped out of a tree and it's totally off guard.
- 3:01Didn't hear anything that I was doing.
- 3:03And the air arcs towards the towards the deer and around
- 3:07about 5 feet away, it just ducks right out of the way.
- 3:10So it's a, it's a tricky, tricky thing that honestly for for
- 3:17whitetail, I think it's a good idea to aim low always.
- 3:21I don't really have a lot of experience with mule deer,
- 3:24especially at the further yardages.
- 3:29But I mean, if it's going to duck out of the way at, when in
- 3:34the arrows, like 5 or 10 yards away at 35 yards, I mean, it
- 3:39really puts you in a bind about where to aim and stuff like
- 3:42that. So, you know, I, I, I don't have
- 3:47an answer on that. And I have also heard that mule
- 3:50deer do not sometimes do not drop.
- 3:53I've also seen a deer that was alert actually not drop for
- 4:00whatever reason. I don't know, it's like, I think
- 4:03a lot of times it's dependent on the animal versus A and a deer
- 4:07that has no idea that no idea that you're there and the sound
- 4:12of the shot really scares them and makes them drop and run
- 4:15away. It's a, it's a tough, it's a
- 4:18tough top topic to address because it's it, it could be a
- 4:23deer by deer basis. And you know, I, I, I don't have
- 4:31any, you know, expert opinion on it per say, but it's, it's
- 4:36definitely a problem. So I've talked to people who use
- 4:42heavy arrows. I've talked to people who use
- 4:44really light arrows. For me, that deer drops so fast
- 4:48that I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference between
- 4:51the arrow weight in terms of how fast it gets there.
- 4:56But it's a tricky topic that I'm sure that a lot of people have
- 5:01lost deer too. I mean the the deer that I have
- 5:04on video, you can see in the video the broadhead scrape its
- 5:09back and a puff of fur so. I mean, it's brutal.
- 5:13Yeah, it's, it's a, it's a brutal thing to experience, but
- 5:17it's all part of the learning process.
- 5:18And when you have one of those, it's tough not to get down about
- 5:23it, but you just got to you. You got to make a plan for your
- 5:26for your next shot, so. Yeah, no, I agree.
- 5:29I think that, you know, I think the there's really only three
- 5:33things you can address to potentially make this problem
- 5:38less. I could throw a fourth one in.
- 5:40Here's the here's what I think could help avoid string jumps #1
- 5:45quiet. Make your bow as quiet as
- 5:47possible, right? I think that's big #2 make your
- 5:51arrow as quiet as possible. So quiet veins.
- 5:54Right now I'm running the Blazers, which are really good.
- 5:56Veins are classic, but Blazers are a little loud.
- 5:59So boning made a new vein called the alpha and it's like lower
- 6:02profile, it's softer. It's supposed to fly just as
- 6:04well but be much quieter because of the design of the vein.
- 6:09It's longer and not as high. So quieter vein, quieter bow.
- 6:14I hear your point. I still think speed is going to
- 6:17help you just because the quicker you get to it, you got
- 6:21to like dude, when you go frame by frame and you see how fast
- 6:24those deer react, even if you can cut 3 feet off, you know
- 6:28what I mean? Like I think it's big.
- 6:30And then to add a last thing, it would just be not to aim for a
- 6:34miss, but like aim really low to where, you know, if you do hit
- 6:40him and he doesn't react at all, you're hitting like just above
- 6:44the, you know, just above the the rib cage diaphragm, like
- 6:47right, right above the brisket, Yeah, where you'll still kill
- 6:50him. But if he does react, you have
- 6:53that leeway. But I think if you were to
- 6:55address every single one of those things, I think that's
- 7:00going. To be the best way to.
- 7:01Mitigate or reduce string jumps. Now, the other thing that I
- 7:06think is a tricky 1 is I've heard, I don't know if there's
- 7:11like a science on this or a video study, but I've heard that
- 7:14for like whitetails specifically out of tree stands.
- 7:17And I have shot only three whitetails right out of out of
- 7:21tree stands. And I hit them all in the same
- 7:23exact place. I was aiming in the pocket.
- 7:25I hit all of them, you know, that far below the back top, top
- 7:29of the lungs, all of them, they reacted the same amount.
- 7:32And I shot them all between about 20 and 30 yards.
- 7:35I've heard that for whitetails, some guys like to shoot them at
- 7:40more like 50 because they say that the reaction is peak
- 7:45between like 20 and 40 yards. Beyond that, your bow is
- 7:50further. So it's like quieter, quieter
- 7:53and. From whatever the sound takes a
- 7:57little bit more. Your air travels faster than
- 7:59that sound maybe can get, I don't know.
- 8:03But I. Have the math a little bit.
- 8:04I think the sound would still get there before the arrow does,
- 8:06but that's still less time to react.
- 8:09Yeah, I suppose so. I don't know if that's I prefer
- 8:13to shoot stuff closer, like I like shooting stuff at 10 yards,
- 8:15you know, is what I like 20 yards.
- 8:18But I could see some logic to it.
- 8:22But if a deer were to walk by at 20, am I going to pass him and
- 8:24be like, let me wait till he goes to 50?
- 8:26Like no, I'm not going to do that, but it is an interesting
- 8:30one. Like it would be an interesting
- 8:31video study to go sit in the tree stand and shoot 5 to go on
- 8:35dope patrol. Shoot 5 dose at 20 or less.
- 8:39Or let's say let's shoot 5 dose from 30 or less and then let's
- 8:44shoot 5 from 50 or 50 or more and see if the reaction.
- 8:49Signed me up. And see if the reaction time is
- 8:52any different. Do you have a wait list for dope
- 8:54patrol or? Go to Oklahoma.
- 8:55You got to hit up Seek One or go to Oklahoma, baby.
- 8:58Yeah, but but anyway, I think it's an interesting topic.
- 9:01And my buddy Travis that filmed all my hunts in South Africa, he
- 9:07was really big on quiet veins, right.
- 9:10So he ran bonings that were not the alphas.
- 9:13They were like a longer version. So they were like probably 4
- 9:16inches long, but really soft and really low profile.
- 9:20And when him and I would shoot, I would shoot my Blazers and he
- 9:23would shoot his boating veins. I, I wish I knew the name of
- 9:26them. And it was a noticeable,
- 9:28noticeable sound difference, you know, and that's the human ears
- 9:33behind. That for a slower but a shooter
- 9:36myself, I think that would be like something I wish I had
- 9:39before even leaving in a couple weeks, like those alphas.
- 9:41Just something different to to try out to make you know,
- 9:46anything more quiet, more quick, more, you know, penetration like
- 9:50anywhere I can get, the more. Well, they have the not trying.
- 9:54They have the new Alpha and the new Altus.
- 9:57Oh yes, that that one looks good.
- 9:58Oh, I think I've been calling them atlases.
- 10:01Is it? Alt Now aren't they the.
- 10:03Not. Sure, aren't they the pretty
- 10:04much the same vein? But I think 1 is softer material
- 10:08than the other I believe. I believe it seems like softer
- 10:11would help. I think so.
- 10:13The only one with softer I've seen which everybody seems to
- 10:16say it doesn't matter like they straighten out in flight, is
- 10:19that the softer ones seem to crinkle so fast.
- 10:23I agree, you just need them against anything or you go deep
- 10:28in the target. Yep, or you can just shoot after
- 10:30shooting that arrow enough times.
- 10:32James saw it with the What were those?
- 10:34So when I shot the Silent Night bands, they were silent nights
- 10:38are supposed to be super quiet and they're supposed to be super
- 10:42light. So that hope so yeah, that's
- 10:44their like thing. But they would warp so like
- 10:49you'd look at them and they would have like weaves.
- 10:51And I never noticed any difference in shooting quality
- 10:54like group size or anything like that.
- 10:56And when I. If my mind I would just think
- 10:58it, but yeah, they do well when I Adam just fine, but they just.
- 11:02Look, when I picked Josh's brain about it and I was like, hey,
- 11:06why are these warped? And he said I had to do with
- 11:08like the speed of the bow and and this, you know, like
- 11:11temperature changing temp. But he said that it doesn't make
- 11:14a difference because the once the bow let's the arrow go, it's
- 11:18so fast that those little warps are going to get like
- 11:21straightened out by the by the air, you know.
- 11:24So he he sends kind of thought it was a nothing burger, but I
- 11:28don't know. Yeah, it's an interesting topic.
- 11:29It is, man. It's.
- 11:31Important. It's important for sure.
- 11:33I mean, more animals are wounded and not killed without question
- 11:39by string jumps more than anything else.
- 11:41I would agree. No doubt about it.
- 11:44I would agree. So yeah, I don't know.
- 11:47I thought it was a fun topic. When you guys were talking about
- 11:49it, I was like we should definitely hit it on the pod.
- 11:52I think in the Midwest it's more to do with the fact that no
- 11:55one's practiced. Yeah, that does happen a lot in
- 11:59I think. And what's the nice of it more?
- 12:02And you're allowed to. You can say what?
- 12:03A shooting happening there. He can say whatever he wants
- 12:06because he's from Ohio, so he came to he yeah, Whatever you
- 12:08got, you got it. From Florida, you got a ticket
- 12:10there he's going to get. Killed in the comments.
- 12:13I wouldn't. So bet the white tail hunters
- 12:15would be like. You know they, they know.
- 12:18They know the deal. They know even even if they even
- 12:21if they refuse to admit it, they know the deal.
- 12:23I think there's just, there's a lot more attention to weapon
- 12:28seasons in the Midwest and the East then there is in the West.
- 12:33A lot more people switch over from archery, which is only a
- 12:36month long, to rifle season. Shotgun, you know, Turkey season
- 12:42rolls around, they get the shotgun back out and then
- 12:44there's maybe a little bit of target happening in there over
- 12:47the summer. Maybe for some states it's just
- 12:50too hot for them and then they roll back into archery seas.
- 12:54Then they get the bow back out from underneath the bed.
- 12:57Well, you really want me to get killed?
- 12:58In the comments I'll talk a lot about crossbow runners.
- 13:02Geez. I have a bone to pick about
- 13:05crossbow hunters. You know I've never shot 1
- 13:08before. So here's my hot take.
- 13:10I don't really. I know that's a big thing.
- 13:13A big debate is like crossbow. I of course is crossbows aren't
- 13:18really a thing out West. Like it's more so people that
- 13:20maybe have like a medical injury that then could use a crossbow.
- 13:25Now I know out where you're at. A lot of times a crossbow season
- 13:29is during archery season. My hot take, and again I don't
- 13:33really have a any skin in the game here at all, but to me it
- 13:37makes more sense that crossbow would be in the season with like
- 13:42muzzle loader or shotgun rather than archery.
- 13:45And by a rifle season. No, not rifle, because to me a
- 13:49crossbow is more similar to like a primitive muzzle loader or a
- 13:52shotgun, not a rifle. What do they have on them for
- 13:56sights? Oh, they have oh like really
- 13:59like sites. Red dots all.
- 14:02And then, correct me if I'm wrong, Arizona I think might
- 14:05also be one of them. I only know this because I saw a
- 14:07lady up in arms about it on one of the female hunting pages.
- 14:10I follow that their state just banned the use of bipods for
- 14:17them with their crossbows. And to me, if you got a bipod
- 14:23and a red dot on your archery weapon.
- 14:29Out. Couldn't you say to say anything
- 14:31about a Garmin site though? On a compound boat, I mean a.
- 14:34Garment. A lot of states have outlawed
- 14:35that. No, not a lot.
- 14:37I mean there's some, but like, I mean.
- 14:40Do you have electronics or lighting?
- 14:42Yeah. Oh yeah, that's true.
- 14:44That's true. Yeah, good point.
- 14:45I don't know how much archery. Is considered primitive.
- 14:47Like you cannot use a light in the majority of states, you
- 14:51cannot use an electronic site. Well, they even that dot from 40
- 14:57yards away if you got something that magnifies it, I guess.
- 15:00See, that's hard to argue because a lot of people do also
- 15:02a lot of take them out for hunting season.
- 15:04But you can technically run a a clarifier and a lens.
- 15:07So like, there's a bit of magnification, but like, I don't
- 15:10know, there's just something about having like a red dot, a
- 15:12bipod, A tripod holding your weapon, like all this stuff that
- 15:16like, to me, we are taking away from the primitive nature of the
- 15:20archery season. You make you make an excellent
- 15:23point, and just to give you an idea, I thought that Ohio
- 15:28hunting regulations were pretty strict until I came out here.
- 15:32Ohio hunting regulations are actually the easiest you'll ever
- 15:36find. So archery season is from about
- 15:40September 29th, 28th, something like that, to February 2nd.
- 15:47Every day in between that gap, it doesn't matter if you're in
- 15:51gun season, it doesn't matter if you're in muzzleloader season,
- 15:53You are allowed to take a deer. You are allowed to take a deer
- 15:58in between that gap no matter the season, and that includes
- 16:02compound bows and crossbows. Here's the problem with that.
- 16:07A lot of people get a crossbow and basically they treat it like
- 16:11a gun. OK, so if you are in, if you've
- 16:15got a 4570 and you're in a basically a brush gun, you might
- 16:20be able to get away with shooting a deer in brush.
- 16:24You cannot get away with shooting a deer like that with a
- 16:28crossbow in brush because no matter what the system is,
- 16:32you're still deal, you're still dealing with an arrow.
- 16:35And, and we've all seen slow MO footage of a twig deflecting
- 16:41that arrow into oblivion. So my deal with crossbow hunters
- 16:46is they think that, oh, it's the same system as basically an
- 16:50AR15. You've still got the same safety
- 16:52functions as an AR15. So they treat that like an AR15
- 16:56or a gun. And so they think, oh, I can
- 16:59shoot this, you know, 75 yards through brush and be OK with.
- 17:04It. No, no, no, no, not sketch.
- 17:07That's not, that's not what. That's not what's going on.
- 17:10David came to just upset the audio.
- 17:12I love it. I.
- 17:13Will take I will Tayetta. Loves this me I'm on her he'll.
- 17:16Just load pins in me. I'm going.
- 17:19Oh yeah, I love it. I love it.
- 17:20I will take let him. Back.
- 17:22From the crossbow. OK, he's starting the war.
- 17:26You can you can go. Comment and blow up his page 614
- 17:29Archery on YouTube. There we go.
- 17:31Go blow him up. There we go.
- 17:33But Arizona did just restrict the crossbow regulations to
- 17:41people who actually have like a medical reason to use a
- 17:46crossbow. Like they've had reconstructive,
- 17:48reconstructive surgery on their shoulders.
- 17:51Maybe it's an 89 year old going out to hunt and like we're
- 17:55totally fine with that. But they but they relaxed the
- 18:01they relax the regulations for crossbows in Arizona.
- 18:04I don't know how long ago and basically what what ended up
- 18:07happening was when elk season, deer season would open up in a
- 18:12lot of these popular in these popular units, they would end up
- 18:17closing that week when in in reality you've got two 2 1/2
- 18:25weeks to hunt. It would be closed in five days.
- 18:28So because shrew Archers. Wouldn't have a chance to get
- 18:31any kind of season. Correct.
- 18:33Oh, correct. And it was getting out of
- 18:35control where you could just go and get a crossbow.
- 18:38And, you know, people my age were getting crossbows and I
- 18:43don't want to say lying about, you know, something, but you
- 18:47know, the, the crossbow hunters were closing the season in five,
- 18:52sometimes 3 days. And it's just it, it was, it was
- 18:57crazy. So they just push that to you're
- 19:01going to, I don't know what the regulations are now full, Full
- 19:05disclosure, but they have since upped it, upped the regulations
- 19:11to what it would take to get a crossbow tag.
- 19:13So. Like I'm I'm a say it, y'all can
- 19:18hate me. Oh boy, buckle up.
- 19:20This is not archery. Oh, Jesus.
- 19:24I am looking at some pictures right now, this dude in his
- 19:29chair, with a bipod, with a scope, with a shoulder like
- 19:35comfort. Dress.
- 19:37Correct. And to top it off.
- 19:40That looks like the Midwest too. They shoot from three like the
- 19:44minimums start from 300 to 500 feet per second.
- 19:51Averages being between 370 and 420.
- 19:55You tell me whose archery bow compound gets 420 feet a second?
- 20:01But it's and can put a scope. On it, it's a shorter, lighter
- 20:03arrow. It's a bolt.
- 20:05It's a bolt. Yeah, I know.
- 20:06That's why they. Call it so.
- 20:08I mean to be fair, Brianna with her draw length.
- 20:10Based. It's basically a few inches from
- 20:12all I mean, and I only get 250 feet a second.
- 20:14Yeah, I don't know everything about what that picture looks
- 20:19like. Looks like rifle hunting to me,
- 20:21no? No, what a what an unbelievable
- 20:23topic. I'm just stewing on this topic.
- 20:25You're going to have to can this whole video, no?
- 20:28Even not let them go. Let me extend an olive branch to
- 20:32the crossbow hunters in the Midwest, OK?
- 20:35I want to talk after this. Yep.
- 20:37So he's been stewing over. He's stewing.
- 20:40Now in Ohio, it is not unusual for deer hunters to harvest 1/2
- 20:50a million deer a year. That is like that.
- 20:54And, and honestly, in Ohio, wow, they would call that a good year
- 20:58where they need to harvest that much to keep the population
- 21:01down. Healthy, OK, yeah.
- 21:03Keep cars there, there. There have been years where all
- 21:07throughout season, whether it's archery or gun or muzzleloader,
- 21:13it's more like 350,000 and you can see that they were kind O
- 21:18DNR was kind of hoping for a little bit more.
- 21:22So that's where the crossbows come to come into play and where
- 21:27there won't be any regulations in Ohio when it comes to
- 21:29crossbows and everybody's kind of OK with it.
- 21:32I just have a personal problem with a lot of people going out
- 21:36and think that they're shooting an AR15 at a deer when it should
- 21:40be. Basically, you take the weapon
- 21:43system away, you're still shooting an arrow at something,
- 21:46and it's not a 4570 with a 500 grain projectile crashing
- 21:52through brush and with enough kinetic energy to do what it
- 21:56needs to do to get. There to the right spot.
- 22:00Yep, I like that you're throwing in the the handicapped stuff and
- 22:05the older stuff because I'm getting older.
- 22:07I don't know if you noticed that.
- 22:09None of you? No, not at all.
- 22:10I had not noticed, no, not a single bit. 6 I mean, you had
- 22:14your shirt off earlier today and I was like, that's peak dad
- 22:16injury. You look pretty good dude.
- 22:18Project. As you put me as Cheryl, well,
- 22:24that was insane. I.
- 22:26Love it. What I can see, what I can see.
- 22:29How Connie fell for you, man. Yeah.
- 22:33She was trying. She was trying to help the
- 22:36stupid. Just a big old punk of meat just
- 22:39just sitting there in this, in his, in his comfy chair.
- 22:42Yeah. Yeah, Well, I appreciate you
- 22:45throwing in the the caveat for handicapped hunters because I'm
- 22:50trying my best to keep shooting a boat.
- 22:52I'm trying, but I love archery so much that I realize, you
- 22:59know, reality, age is reality. And someday I'm going to have to
- 23:05switch to a crossbow and I probably won't go to a rifle.
- 23:09Nothing bad about that, but I'll probably switch to a crossbow.
- 23:13Or when when you got bone on bone arthritis and stuff like
- 23:17this. Reality sucks and, and I like
- 23:20that. And, and we all know Danny's a
- 23:22friend of the show and. He, he, he.
- 23:26He's in a wheelchair and he's got a he can't shoot a boat
- 23:31anymore. He gave it his best shot.
- 23:33Yeah, I saw him at a shoe and he had that wheel, he had that
- 23:41chair with the with the tracks on it.
- 23:44And I was like, I was like, hell yeah, man.
- 23:46And he just doesn't have the muscles to hold up anything.
- 23:50So he uses everything. You know, he uses a tripod, he
- 23:53uses, you know, advanced sites and we're all happy.
- 24:00Yeah, I definitely think that there's a point to where, you
- 24:06know, certain people should be allowed to use certain things or
- 24:10there should be certain seasons for it or whatnot if it's
- 24:13comparably different. And that's all fine and dandy.
- 24:18It's when you start to mix them into certain seasons.
- 24:21And like if the numbers just don't equate that, like, you
- 24:25know, you're penetrating the animals with the same amount of
- 24:27kinetic energy as a bow and you can shoot about the same
- 24:31distances as a bow and you're using the same primitive stuff
- 24:34on it as you would a bow. You know, that's what I'm like,
- 24:38OK, maybe it should just be its its own season or maybe it
- 24:42should be mixed in with you know, would not mix it with
- 24:44muzzle loader. I mean, that's about, as you
- 24:47know, the next primitive step up from well, I'm, I'm.
- 24:50Actually, here's why I comped them Right.
- 24:53Let's say you're doing a iron sights muzzle loader, not the
- 24:55new ones that can shoot 506 hundred yards.
- 24:58These guys are telling me as far as you want with the new ones.
- 25:00Yeah, but a lot of states are making it to where if you're
- 25:03going to hunt muzzle loader, they either have two muzzle
- 25:05loader seasons, one for like the iron sights and the ones they
- 25:09have different rules are how you load out.
- 25:10I've never heard or the long range ones, but here's my point.
- 25:14Let's say that in let's just take Ohio for example, let's say
- 25:17that they only allow you to use the more primitive muzzle
- 25:20loader. Let's just say for for my point
- 25:23here, right, OK. So you can only use the.
- 25:25More primitive muzzle loader, a shotgun or a crossbow in one
- 25:30season, right? My thing is.
- 25:33Each one of those weapons, I think your effective range is
- 25:36relatively comparable with each one.
- 25:38That's what I'm saying. So like a crossbow, I think 100
- 25:41yards probably you're pretty much you're you're that's it.
- 25:44That's the Max about, you know, that's a poke.
- 25:47Same with the shotgun for sure. Yeah, maybe even last probably
- 25:517060. I don't know a lot about it.
- 25:54And then with a muzzle loader, you're probably a primitive 1,
- 25:57you're probably talking 100 is like a poke, you know what I
- 26:01mean? So to me, that's why I can
- 26:03understand that crossbow in with them, not with rifle.
- 26:06Because with rifle, you know, you can shoot hundreds of yards
- 26:09no problem. And then with a bow, you know
- 26:12you're looking, 50 people might get you.
- 26:15For that, you're looking 50. Or less, you know what I'm
- 26:18saying? So to me, I try to look at it
- 26:20based on distance. In pairing seasons with stuff
- 26:23where your distance is somewhat comparable, the technology to me
- 26:28I don't think really makes a difference.
- 26:29I mean, sure you could have a red dot, but you still got to
- 26:32squeeze through the trigger, make a good shot and if it's.
- 26:36And it's humane. And it's humane.
- 26:38For me it's more of a distance thing.
- 26:39So that's why to your point, I would put it, I could see that.
- 26:43Sorry, probably. Wouldn't put it.
- 26:45With archery season, no I, I. Wouldn't either.
- 26:47That's what I'm saying the. You're correct, unless it's
- 26:50someone. With an injury or age or
- 26:51something, yeah. You're you're correct in that
- 26:54the technology these days really doesn't make a a whole lot of
- 27:00difference. But I will tell you that it
- 27:04makes a difference in the shooters overconfidence.
- 27:08So if you've got, yeah, like back in the day when you had
- 27:12those like Tasco scopes that were like were like 4 1/2 to 10
- 27:17or something like that, you had a range of, you know, a six, a
- 27:21500 yard shot was a poke and you didn't want to do that, I'd say
- 27:253. But now, so it's a poke Now I've
- 27:28got, I've got a four and a half, a 3 1/2 to 27 on one of my
- 27:32rifles that you can, you can I, I shot 1000 yards and you know
- 27:38it like I missed a couple of times, but at 1000 yards I was
- 27:43actually shocked at how well I could hit that.
- 27:45So that's overconfidence because of your equipment and what you
- 27:50think you can do or you watch other.
- 27:51People do with that same Yep. Well, and then you think.
- 27:54Then you think, oh, well, we I've got a little bit of wind
- 27:56here that makes no difference. Yeah, it does.
- 27:59Just because you can see that target and see every D, you can
- 28:03see all the spots on those deer or elk or something like that.
- 28:06You can see how many times it's got.
- 28:09Doesn't mean that your projectile is going to land
- 28:11where you want it to. It takes a lot of skill and I
- 28:15think a lot of hunters are overconfident because of their
- 28:18optics on their weapons. So and and I mean, it's kind of
- 28:22the same thing with with bows. I got I got, I know a guy who
- 28:26who put A10 power lens on his scope and he joked with me that
- 28:31he could see the nuts on a ticket 30 yards, you know, And
- 28:35as he's a Kansas boy, he's hilarious.
- 28:37I love him to death. But I mean, a female tick.
- 28:40Yeah, exactly. But but, but you know, all of
- 28:44that, all of that technology on your bows and on your weapon
- 28:47system leads, it only leads to overconfidence because with the
- 28:52even with the amount with especially with like rifle
- 28:55projectiles, they've come a long way.
- 28:58But they haven't come that long away to where the wind and your
- 29:05elevation and stuff like that doesn't make a difference
- 29:09anymore. There's a lot of, I think
- 29:11there's a lot of your shaking it.
- 29:12Doesn't stop your nerves. Exactly, it doesn't.
- 29:14Stop you punching the trigger and stuff like that.
- 29:17And that can lead to injured animals as well.
- 29:21That will make it to, Oh yeah, three or four years before
- 29:24they're killed by another person.
- 29:25And then you find out, you start to, you know, quarter the animal
- 29:30and you find a shotgun slug in its leg, actually.
- 29:33So the goat that I shot in Hawaii had been shot like
- 29:37probably within the last three months maybe he was healed up.
- 29:41He was fine until I shot him again.
- 29:43But he was he he, he was fine until I shot.
- 29:48Him again and. Then.
- 29:50He wasn't. Yeah.
- 29:52So actually. I don't know if we ever talked
- 29:54about this, but this is another I think pretty cool discussion
- 29:59too. So that goat comes in right?
- 30:03Here's about 15 in this group. And as they're coming, I can see
- 30:09the one in the back is a big one, right?
- 30:11So I'm like, OK, I'm gonna wait for that one in the back and I'm
- 30:13gonna shoot them. They were all filtering through
- 30:15about 20 yards, but it's like straight downhill.
- 30:18So he was a black, a black sheep.
- 30:20And they're different colors. So I'm like, OK, when I see a
- 30:23black one, I just got to be. I need.
- 30:24That's just what color he was. I'm, you know, you pick that
- 30:27one. Well, he had the biggest.
- 30:30Horns, Jeezo. Big He had the.
- 30:33Biggest horns? Let me explain.
- 30:35That let me explain what happened this.
- 30:37Podcast off the rails, so this goat.
- 30:40These goats start filtering through and I'm like, I know
- 30:43he's the last one and I see him come through.
- 30:46One comes through, 2 comes through, three comes through.
- 30:48They're standing there like and finally I see this large darker
- 30:52complexion sheep Walker. So I draw on this goat and then
- 30:59I realize I go, that's the wrong one.
- 31:01That's a female, right? He thought all the.
- 31:04Blankets looked the same. Jeez, O peek.
- 31:07Jeez, O peek, kind of. And only four.
- 31:09Or so goats had come by. So now I go, wow, now I'm in a
- 31:13pickle. I'm in a draw at 20 yards and I
- 31:15have a feeling I'm be waiting here a while.
- 31:17So I start holding. So I'm like, oh, I can't let
- 31:21down. I'm too close to him.
- 31:22So I'm holding the draw and I'm holding, holding, holding.
- 31:26And then I hold the draw so long that I have this Daydream.
- 31:32I start Daydream and then I like snap back too.
- 31:35And I go, oh, he's right there. He's past my window, right?
- 31:39So I have the anchor lean forward.
- 31:41These goats are small. I mean this he's probably 40
- 31:45lbs, right? So maybe not even he is pretty
- 31:49small. So dude, I shoot this goat and I
- 31:53see the arrow hit like right where you'd want it to hit, but
- 31:57I see that my arrow sticking out like the whole way.
- 32:01I got like no penetration and it sounded like I cracked a rock,
- 32:04right? So I'm like.
- 32:07Not what you love to. See, you know, but then he
- 32:09started running and I saw him like go head over heels off this
- 32:12Cliff, right? So I'm like, wow, I know I I got
- 32:15him, but like, why did my arrow go so shallow on such a small
- 32:19animal at such a short distance? So I start, I go get the goat.
- 32:23I start processing them, quartering them out and I
- 32:27actually boned them out. Turns out my.
- 32:29Arrow had entered right behind the shoulder, but it exited in
- 32:35the actual ball socket, so I squared up the ball joint.
- 32:39Probably the hardest part on the body that you can hit.
- 32:43Now here's what's crazy. The broad head was fully
- 32:48deployed, but it's one of the beast.
- 32:50Broad heads. Beast.
- 32:51Broad heads. Beast Broad heads.
- 32:53Broad heads. One of the.
- 32:54Blades broke in half, right. So it was 1/2 happened.
- 32:58So it was a half a blade and the other one was a full blade.
- 33:02The entrance wound was about like that big.
- 33:05It was about like the size of a spear.
- 33:06Big, big entrance. Now, here's the trippy part. 2
- 33:09inches. Yeah, 2, two inches.
- 33:11So I go show this to Josh Beaumar.
- 33:15I send him. I send him the video.
- 33:16I said check this out. I hit the ball joint.
- 33:18You could see it. The broadhead's in the ball
- 33:20joint when I pull it out, I show him a blade's broken and he
- 33:24goes, dude, honestly, he said. That's actually really cool that
- 33:28that broadhead is fully deployed with half a blade broken because
- 33:33the beast is spring loaded. So like a rage or a sever, they
- 33:38work off rotation. So if that blade breaks, the
- 33:41other one folds back into the feral because it doesn't have
- 33:45something pulling against it to keep it open really.
- 33:48But he's like, dude, look at the amount of damage.
- 33:50That thing's still dead. Sure it broke, but you still
- 33:53have 1/2 inch of blade on the on one side, a full blade on the
- 33:57other side, and they're both fully deployed.
- 34:00They're both fully deployed. And he goes and he literally.
- 34:03He literally pulled out a broad head, sent me a video and he
- 34:06said look cut. He cut the one off and pushed it
- 34:09into something. Sure enough, rotated right into
- 34:11the pharaoh, but with the beast it was still fully deployed.
- 34:16And I was like, dude, I hadn't even thought about that, but I
- 34:19was like, that's a really good. Education.
- 34:23Great education, so I've seen. I've seen broad heads.
- 34:26I was just impressed. By that is what I was trying to
- 34:28get to and like a broad heads are going to break like I've
- 34:30shot rage for I've shot rage for a decade.
- 34:33I've broken blades off those I've broken now a beast blade.
- 34:38But I I was impressed when I heard the explanation.
- 34:41And one thing I want to say about David Hauser, who kind of
- 34:45is a head engineer for Beast and an phenomenal Archer, they put
- 34:52so much thought into the product.
- 34:55When you hang out with them, it's insane.
- 34:57Like they had thought about this variable that's so rare to
- 35:00happen, but still wanted to make it cool.
- 35:03So I just thought that was a a cool thing.
- 35:05That was a good, good. Discussion you know, my my
- 35:08minimal experience with beast is I can't believe how well they
- 35:12hold up because they don't break very often because I I have shot
- 35:17the other brand and and I like them like rage or grade.
- 35:20Yeah, yeah, I like. Them a lot and they're right.
- 35:23I am amazed that you can you can for if you're Turkey hunting or
- 35:27something like that, you know, there's no problem.
- 35:30Use them rage two or three times and guys who are on a budget,
- 35:34these things aren't cheap. It's impressive they're only
- 35:37getting. More expensive, yeah.
- 35:40So rages deploy like this, correct?
- 35:43They deploy. Kind of back a little bit back a
- 35:47little bit, yeah. So I've all.
- 35:49And the the beast deploys like that, but it's spring loaded.
- 35:54Spring loaded, Yeah. So I've seen a lot of broadheads
- 35:57that deploy like this. Yeah.
- 35:59Do the job. Like the Grim Reapers.
- 36:01Grim Reapers. Or.
- 36:02A lot of B3, all their B3 ones deploy like that, but they
- 36:07deploy like this, but and so they go into the animal like
- 36:10that, but when they come out, it's slowed down so much that it
- 36:14causes them to close when they exit the animal.
- 36:18So you go to retrieve your broadhead and they're closed
- 36:22because and and so you go, holy crap, they didn't deploy at all.
- 36:27Well, they did you. Just.
- 36:28Did. But but the but it going a full
- 36:32pass through will will slow it down enough to where the inertia
- 36:36the inertia makes them close again.
- 36:39Don't actually. Know if they deployed in the
- 36:41animal Here Here's a cool. Part I like about Grim Reaper is
- 36:45number one. I have a buddy that uses them a
- 36:48lot and I've seen them shoot a very, very big animals and they
- 36:53they work super well. I like, I like the four blade
- 36:56idea a lot. A lot of them are four blade and
- 36:59you got to give it to Grim Reaper.
- 37:00They're very reasonably priced compared to a lot of others.
- 37:03I believe they're 4 packs and they're a little bit cheaper.
- 37:07But you know, one thing I think is cool about Beast as well, not
- 37:11to make it a beast AD, but like they confront, they just say
- 37:15yeah, they're expensive, but like there's so much technology
- 37:18baked in, like they should be expensive.
- 37:20So anyway, quick AD team BBS the code if you want to save money
- 37:23on Beast and also Kawasaki, we throw Kawasaki in the AD
- 37:27segment. No code for.
- 37:29That one, no. Code for the Kawasaki.
- 37:31Unfortunately, the one thing that I will.
- 37:33Say about Beast that I like Grim reapers.
- 37:36They'll come with one practice head, which pisses me off
- 37:40because you get 3 broad heads in there and one practice head and
- 37:47beast, although they are like a little bit more expensive.
- 37:51You can buy a three pack of practice heads where I don't
- 37:55think you can do that. Now they, or at least I'd not
- 37:57see that's a big deal. It's a big.
- 38:00Deal. It was.
- 38:01One practice tip and only two broad heads in the pack and I
- 38:05was like Oh my God. I mean, to fill a Clipper you
- 38:08got to buy 2 packs of these things.
- 38:09Yeah, but they have since changed that to where you'd buy
- 38:13the practice set and you buy a full pack of three now.
- 38:16And I was like that. That tool was much better and I.
- 38:19I. Almost prefer just buying the
- 38:22three broad heads and then just getting a three pack of practice
- 38:25heads. So you can, you can literally
- 38:28you don't have to sit there and like shoot 1 arrow, pull it and
- 38:31then that one flew fine and then and then put another practice
- 38:34head on another arrow, shoot it. And it's just it's just so much
- 38:38easier to get a pack of three practice broad heads plus some
- 38:41more shooting you do. With that broad end
- 38:44configuration, the better, you know, And then and then right
- 38:48when you get near the hunt, you can refine it and say, OK, I'm
- 38:52going to actually shoot a real head or something like that.
- 38:54So trust it in your mind if you hunt.
- 38:57Enough, you know, and you're you're rebuying packs and packs
- 39:01of broad heads and whatnot like then you stack up.
- 39:03Your then what am I stacking? Up all these practice steps for,
- 39:05you know, like you just buy your 3.
- 39:07In fact, you put them on your 3 arrows to, to practice around
- 39:11and what not make sure your grouping is correct or a tune
- 39:13your butt a little bit if need be and then you're done.
- 39:16Whereas if you just buy one set of broad heads or even 2, you
- 39:21only got 2 practice tips. And so that's a slight bummer.
- 39:26You know, if you want to shoot more than that in a group, you
- 39:28got to go pull every 2 * 2 arrows only.
- 39:30Like I say, it takes three to make a group, you know, And then
- 39:34the opposite end is once you start stacking up purchases,
- 39:37it's like, what do I need 15 practice tips for?
- 39:41Yeah. So you just buy the three pack,
- 39:44be done with it, save them. Yeah.
- 39:46And now every time you're buying a pack, you're getting your full
- 39:49set of three. Actual I I agree.
- 39:51That is nice. David, did you draw any tags
- 39:54this year? My friend, I have a deer.
- 39:57Rifle tag in Arizona, OK, it won't tell you where because
- 40:01don't do that. Don't do that.
- 40:04So I've got. My, I've you know, this is a
- 40:06hunting, an archery hunting podcast, but I do have my 7mm
- 40:11Remington magnum all tuned up and ready to go.
- 40:14But I have some, I have AI have a spot where I'm looking to
- 40:18archery hunt as well. So in Arizona, the hunting
- 40:23season bleeds into January. So we're I'm I'm if I don't get
- 40:31a or if I if I don't get a deer in August or something like that
- 40:37with my bow, I can always go to the rifle tag.
- 40:40Obviously if you get a deer in in August with your bow, can't
- 40:43use the rifle tag. But if I don't get a deer in
- 40:47August with a bow, if I don't get a deer with my rifle in in
- 40:51November, then I can roll on into December and January.
- 40:56And in December, if I get a deer in December with my bow, I can
- 41:02then get an over the counter tag for January.
- 41:06Yeah, so but that means I can't put in for the rest of 2026 for
- 41:12a deer tag. You can get a bonus.
- 41:13Point correct. Yeah, that's.
- 41:16Barely or I can just put. I put all my points for elk and
- 41:18sheep even though I'll never get a sheep.
- 41:22I would have but. We can't do my friends that I
- 41:24get. To for it I'm like can can I get
- 41:26to? Go back.
- 41:27Yes. I wanna go.
- 41:29Back we were talking about all this rifles, smoke pole, scroll
- 41:37pole. Is that Muslim?
- 41:39Motor to you? I've never heard that before.
- 41:43That's awesome. So there's.
- 41:46Have you ever heard sliver Slinger?
- 41:48No Sliver Slinger. That's.
- 41:53What I'm going? To be that sounds, that sounds
- 41:55very. Sexual.
- 41:57Sort of smoke folds it. Does it?
- 42:00Does sounds like something. You say when you live in the
- 42:03swamp Sliver sling in tonight this.
- 42:07Podcast is off the rails. This thing's crazy.
- 42:12You haven't heard? Of sliver slingers, that's what
- 42:15that's what the rifles call us Archers.
- 42:18So what were you getting to? What I'm getting to do is 2
- 42:21things and I'll probably forget one of them. 1 is, is, is back
- 42:28to the, the thought process of the man in the arena.
- 42:32Have you, if you study Teddy Roosevelt and, and the
- 42:35discussions about the man in the arena.
- 42:39And I and I would say what I'm referring to is when we talk
- 42:44about all these different functions and we get pissed off
- 42:47at the guys who govern this stuff.
- 42:50They're in charge of it, the game commissions of each state.
- 42:55Give them some credit. They're taking all our input and
- 42:59they got to make a decision. You know, so it's tough.
- 43:03Give them credit and and say don't call them stupid and
- 43:07everything because they really aren't.
- 43:09They're they're there because they're hunters and they want
- 43:12things to go right. So they got some tough
- 43:15decisions. Mechanical Brog, you know where
- 43:18they've all been through. So that's that's sort of my
- 43:21point on that one. Well, I got to keep.
- 43:23Up with innovation. Innovation.
- 43:25And, and, and, and what we're doing.
- 43:28And another thing too, you got to remember that guys really,
- 43:33really, really want to hunt. And, and they go, well, they got
- 43:37a rifle, you know, they got a bowl, the one under the bed
- 43:40you're talking about. And they, they pick A tag
- 43:43because I got really good odds if I go for a bow in that zone,
- 43:47you know, so everybody wants to hunt, everybody has a desire to
- 43:52hunt. And they, they, some of this,
- 43:55these decision processes like a bow hunter is going, that guy
- 44:00shouldn't be bow hunting. He shoots 2 weeks before the
- 44:03season and he shouldn't be out there bowl hunting.
- 44:07So, yeah, I'm, I'm breaking some rules right here, but you know
- 44:11what I mean, That that that is a driving force for people putting
- 44:16in for a certain tag is they go, I got AI got a bowl, I got a
- 44:21muzzle loader, I got a crossbow, I got a big rifle, you know,
- 44:26and, and, and they're all hunters and they all love to
- 44:29hunt and they want to do they want to be successful.
- 44:33So yeah, let's, I mean, I mean, for me the biggest thing is
- 44:36always to. Just as long as people are
- 44:37hunting legally, legal and. To the.
- 44:40Rest of their ability, then I'm supportive, you know what I
- 44:43mean? Because I think there's hunters
- 44:44especially, especially as time goes on and it's a broken
- 44:47record. But like with with more
- 44:49legislation constantly getting pushed to ban hunting or strip
- 44:52back hunting rights or sell public land or whatever it might
- 44:55be, it's more important than ever to just support all hunters
- 44:59as long as they're doing it legally.
- 45:00And then beyond that, bro, I'm never going to hate on somebody
- 45:03for shooting a crossbow or a muzzle loader, a rifle or bow.
- 45:07I choose to hunt with a bow, but that doesn't make someone who
- 45:11hunts with 30 out six, you know, with, with grand Pappy.
- 45:15Like that's great too. You know what I mean?
- 45:17Like, there's different types of hunters, but we're all in this
- 45:21together, so it's so important to stick together and for me,
- 45:23that's always the big show. And the lethality of everything
- 45:27we're talking about is lethality and we're getting better and
- 45:31better at that. So we got to work through this
- 45:34maze and our decision makers have to make those decisions
- 45:38well and not. Not only that, but like, you
- 45:41know, if it even if we made it all archery hunting in Arizona,
- 45:47they they would not reach their quotas for what they're they're
- 45:50looking to harp. That's huge balance because.
- 45:53Because I know, I know a unit in Arizona where they had I think
- 45:5910 tags available and it's a it's a big ass unit and there
- 46:05were only two deer harvested with a bow.
- 46:08And I know both of those people. So I mean the the rest.
- 46:13And that's two out of 10 tags that they were looking that they
- 46:17that they gave out or you mean a quote, a quota, yes.
- 46:21Is it what the percentage they? Wanted because that's like 2 out
- 46:25of 10. I yeah, Did I get that?
- 46:27Well, the quota is. Different than A tag allotment.
- 46:29Quota is like meant to be filled I think by the end of season is
- 46:32the target, but that's only for the.
- 46:35In Arizona for example, the quota only is for archery.
- 46:38So like all the other stuff, correct.
- 46:41Doesn't. You're right.
- 46:42Someone has to be in there doing the math and go, OK, our success
- 46:45rates are in this unit, are with a rifle are generally, let's
- 46:49just say 50%, right? We need to give out.
- 46:52We want 100 deer killed, so we need to give out 200 tags.
- 46:55Yeah. You know, there's a lot that
- 46:57goes into it, a lot of adjustments.
- 46:58And as you know, we'll close it with this.
- 47:01It's a good quote by a good philosopher named Isaac Newton.
- 47:05If it fits, it ships. And that's basic, yeah.
- 47:10Yeah, it might be. Nostradamus I'm not sure but
- 47:13see. One of those.
- 47:14CEO of. Amazon.
- 47:15Whatever. Oh, basic.
- 47:17Sir, it's been a pleasure. Great job, Brianna, been a
- 47:20pleasure. David, you're star of the show
- 47:22today. Good, good work on that.
- 47:24And again, any hate comments go over to 614 archery dot.
- 47:28Yeah, YouTube and yeah, subscribe, then go by a Kawasaki
- 47:33Ridge and we'll see you in the next podcast.
- 47:38Thank you for watching and. I remember.
- 47:42I remember you were out to dinner in Yuma and you were
- 47:46talking about how Tori got a notification it is OK of a reel
- 47:53where you were like, what's going on with this?
- 47:55And then you like, all the sudden you were looking at the
- 47:58analytics and it was flat, flat, flat, flat.
- 48:00And then Eiffel Tower. And.
- 48:04Instead of being like, oh, my gosh, this got however many
- 48:07millions of views after two years, you were like, why the
- 48:10fuck did that happen? And you started to do, like, an
- 48:13autopsy on what? On, like, what was going on with
- 48:18this video? Yeah.
- 48:20And literally like, I want to know why this all the sudden
- 48:27super super big. Isn't that interesting?
- 48:29Well. But other people would just be
- 48:31focused on the view count. You were like focused on why did
- 48:36all of a sudden this get crazy popular like basically
- 48:40overnight? Oh yeah, from a two year from a
- 48:432 year old reel, right. And I was like, I was like, I
- 48:46don't, my mind does not think that way.
- 48:50Yeah. I'm focused on the video quality
- 48:52and stuff like that. Yeah.
- 48:54And you're like, I want to know why this?
- 48:57Happened the. Way it did.
- 48:58Yeah, it is interesting too. I always say that social media
- 49:04it's. A moving.
- 49:05Target right? So I'm always having to adapt to
- 49:09new platforms. For example, when I started, it
- 49:12was really just YouTube and then couple years later we added
- 49:15maybe three years later added Instagram and then couple years
- 49:19later added Facebook and TikTok. And now we've added Snapchat and
- 49:24we've added a podcast, which is on Spotify and Apple.
- 49:28So basically you always have to be hitting the, it's like whack
- 49:33A mole, hitting stuff, learning how to do it.
- 49:34And then, and then for me, I mean, obviously I always say
- 49:38like social media, making the videos isn't like inherently
- 49:41what I do for money. But without the social media and
- 49:45all the platforms, none of the other stuff that I do earns
- 49:48money. So that's how I always try to
- 49:50explain it. So yes, the videos do make some
- 49:53money for sure, but the website makes a lot more, the
- 49:57sponsorships make a lot more. And without the viewership and
- 50:01the social media, I don't have any sponsorships and no traffic
- 50:04on the website, right? So that's why it's like
- 50:06important to stay with this stuff.
- 50:09But yeah, to your point, I mean I am very into the analytics and
- 50:13kind of like know when trying. To know my.
- 50:15Best of what to do and like this idea, what made me want to do
- 50:19it, And I've wanted to do it for a long time, of course, is
- 50:23Bryson Dechambeau, A golfer, did a similar series where every day
- 50:27he would shoot a golf shot over his house and try to make a hole
- 50:30in one. And each day he'd get another
- 50:32shot. And I was loved it.
- 50:33You know, every day on Instagram, it would be like you
- 50:35wanted to see if he made it, you know, and he made it on day 14.
- 50:40So we'll see when we make it. But but yeah, that's so a lot of
- 50:44times for me, it's like an idea. I'll see that.
- 50:46I'm like, I'm intrigued by this, but it's never from archery or
- 50:50hunting. I always get ideas from like
- 50:52something else and then bring it in.
- 50:55And then a lot of times once I do it, I've noticed I'll see
- 50:58other people in archery and hunting like kind of use do do
- 51:02the same ideas, which to me is cool.
- 51:05I I, yeah, I'm not offended by that.
- 51:07I think you should. But I do find a little joy in
- 51:10being like, hey, I did that idea first.
- 51:12You know what I mean? I do like that.
- 51:14And I think to young creators, this is such a random bit at the
- 51:19end, but I like it. Yeah, the young creators, I
- 51:21think that. And I do have kids come up at
- 51:23TAC and be like, how do you do it?
- 51:24Like what? What has been the worked, you
- 51:27know? And for me, it's like, I think
- 51:29the more you can be inspired by stuff that is not in the space
- 51:34and bring it to the space, I think is far better in my
- 51:38opinion, than seeing what other people are doing in the space
- 51:40that's working and go, I'm going to copy that because your
- 51:43audience is the same, you know what I mean?
- 51:45It is my audience is the same as every other archery and hunter
- 51:51audience. So if I copy an idea from or I'm
- 51:55inspired by an idea that Hush does, well, whoever watches my
- 52:01video is going to be like, oh, I've seen that idea on Hush, you
- 52:03must have got it from Hush. But if I pull it from Bryson de
- 52:06Chambo's channel, they probably don't watch his channel, you
- 52:10know what I mean? So it's like a fresh idea.
- 52:13And I know that's kind of random tangent, but we're closing out
- 52:16here. It's not random.
- 52:18We all try to be original, yeah. But in reality, there's no such
- 52:23thing as an original thought Nobody has one.
- 52:26Yeah, my. Idea for this series is not
- 52:28original, but it is original in the space.
- 52:31Yeah, you know what I mean. But David, you got some gifts
- 52:34here. I do.
- 52:35And. These these are for your
- 52:38engagement. Thank you, Sir.
- 52:39You congratulations to both of you.
- 52:42I'm very happy for you. Thank you.
- 52:44And these? Are Shabbat time.
- 52:47Yeah. Haven't heard that one, my dad.
- 52:52Said. The same thing with my sister,
- 52:54yeah, when my when my brother-in-law proposed.
- 52:57So I mean, yeah, that's a that's a common thought.
- 53:00But because you guys have been so kind to me in a world of
- 53:04assholes, you guys have been so kind to me.
- 53:07I know I have two gifts from you.
- 53:09One of you you're going to find very, very functional and I
- 53:13think you're going to like one of them.
- 53:15It's 5050 whether you're going to absolutely hate it or not.
- 53:19OK. I will start with the gift that
- 53:21you guys are going to find functional.
- 53:22Here is the package, and here is a California legal knife that
- 53:28you can open. Are you ready?
- 53:30Yes. Wait.
- 53:31Hold on by the. Step.
- 53:32Why were you holding it? Over here.
- 53:34Well, I was going to let you. Like I just used.
- 53:37It I used. It the wrong way, Anna do not
- 53:38cut. Your did you this is it's a
- 53:41dangerous. This looks bad.
- 53:44There you go, that was some. Of the worst.
- 53:46Other than earnest knife work the other day, that was bad And
- 53:49maybe go ahead and. Pull that out of there and this
- 53:51is. Because this is because it's
- 53:53strictly irritates. Oh bro, I've been wanting.
- 53:56The lens. This means we still have not.
- 53:58Ordered what it irritates. The little fuck out of me as a
- 54:01video nerd that you guys don't have as the filter.
- 54:04For every other photographer. Thank you bro.
- 54:06You I walk one. I know I still have a blade
- 54:08dude, thank you. I literally I can't tell you how
- 54:11many times that I have gone to Brianna and go, hey, can you
- 54:14just order me one of these ND filters and then it doesn't
- 54:16happen. So I appreciate that bro.
- 54:18So. That's that's from the same
- 54:21company that I order my ND filters and I believe it fits on
- 54:25your lens. Cool.
- 54:25All right, If it doesn't, I don't know what to do about it.
- 54:28Ask me what lens we. Had.
- 54:30Yes, I did. That's the one I.
- 54:31Didn't answer it, did I? I've been.
- 54:33Did I answer? It you did not.
- 54:35Yeah, I didn't. Planning this for a.
- 54:37Long time now, to be fair, you did answer me on the what kind
- 54:41of lens do you have and stuff like that.
- 54:43But I hope to Christ it fits. We did go with the.
- 54:47Tamron, but yes. Yes.
- 54:49And that's the same great lens. That's what I use.
- 54:53And then I was probably enjoying it, Yeah.
- 54:56So basically what that will allow you to do.
- 54:58The knife up real quick. Figure it out just.
- 55:02Press the button and it'll. Wait, yeah, and you can like
- 55:04close though maybe just give it to.
- 55:05David to close, Well, you're gonna.
- 55:08Need it in a SEC. OK, so keep.
- 55:09You good? Yeah.
- 55:10OK, So what do? What do we got next?
- 55:12OK, I got a grill piping on. Krill piping hot this I try I
- 55:17tempted to ship this and then every place that I I was told
- 55:23that I went to yeah, California legal, by the way, California
- 55:27legal. It is completely legal in the
- 55:29state that I am, late that I'm in.
- 55:31We live in the Communist Republic.
- 55:35There's nothing. Illegal about it.
- 55:36That's that's why I bought it and why I brought it here.
- 55:39It's it has to do with certain amount of inches, you know.
- 55:44So is it inches? Yeah, that have more inches.
- 55:46Exactly if it. Has more inches.
- 55:48It has more penetrate penetration.
- 55:50I've always heard that a shorter.
- 55:51Thrust sometimes can be better for it can, yeah, and and.
- 55:55I prefer smaller knives because they're they're very more more
- 55:58useful. They can fit into more space
- 56:00well, especially you know how to use them well.
- 56:02Exactly. You can get around a little, but
- 56:04sometimes it serves like a. Lot of stuff that you can't get.
- 56:07Through. Much with yeah, but that but.
- 56:09I mean, that's when you just bring a bring a bigger light
- 56:11knife. But I've found that with this,
- 56:14with this knife, bring it and mix it.
- 56:15Into the party with the other knife Exactly, but.
- 56:18With the smaller knives, I prefer the smaller knives
- 56:20because there's a. Smaller knife.
- 56:23Of that knit I feel to go out of this podcast I wanna like I feel
- 56:26that the. Smaller knives work way better
- 56:28for what I'm using. If I'm not using that, I'm using
- 56:31my Ruschetti. So OK, I hate.
- 56:34To be a bastard, but we gotta wrap this up.
- 56:36Yeah, I. Gotta grill and then you'll need
- 56:38this. I found out that this is illegal
- 56:41to ship anywhere, which is complete bullshit, but that's
- 56:45fine. Would you like me to do the
- 56:47night thing? I think, yeah, maybe you have me
- 56:49do and this is this. Is the product that 5050 you're
- 56:52either going to love or you're going to hate, so anywhere.
- 56:57When I used to. Drink.
- 56:58When I used to drink liquor, I would preferably go to this
- 57:03brand. So it's liquor, jinx.
- 57:07It's liquor. Which is illegal to ship in the
- 57:11United States for some reason. Really.
- 57:14Yeah. I.
- 57:15Did that any listeners illegal? To ship in the United States in
- 57:17in. In some states, you probably
- 57:19have to. Be licensed to ship exactly you
- 57:23probably. Have.
- 57:23To have which is. One of the reasons why I'm here
- 57:26today, because I wanted to. I wanted to get this to you.
- 57:28Yeah, that's cool. That's very kind.
- 57:30Of you making the journey to come hang out like a fun nice
- 57:34bunch. Not how I would open Christmas.
- 57:36Presents all right here we. Go.
- 57:38What do we got here? We got a Lagavolin single malt
- 57:44Scotch whiskey. Yes, we love.
- 57:46Whiskey. Yes, we do.
- 57:48Now I. Should mix this with.
- 57:50My Pepsi. That's blasphemous to me.
- 57:54Blasphemous. That's blasphemous to me because
- 57:58I drink Scotch straight with no ice because the taste.
- 58:03So what you're going to taste when you when this hits your
- 58:08lips and your tongue, it's going to taste like you're licking a
- 58:11campfire is basically what it's going to taste.
- 58:14Well, I want to be. There.
- 58:15Yeah, exactly. I love this taste but it's 5050
- 58:21whether you guys are. Going to like it let.
- 58:23Me. Take a look.
- 58:23Yeah, let me take. The thing off this is.
- 58:26This is premium Scotch whiskey, so I just wanted to tell you
- 58:30guys. Thank you, Sir.
- 58:31That is so, so kind of you. You are a dear friend of mine
- 58:35and I appreciate it. That's so kind and you're you're
- 58:39a legend. So you, you guys have been very.
- 58:42Kind to me. So I I appreciate you guys.
- 58:52Might not be. My favorite, but I still.
- 58:55Appreciate this, I may re gift it to.
- 58:59I may re. I smell it.
- 59:01They're coffee got. It and I'm like basking in the
- 59:04smell. Tove.
- 59:06Tove take a swig. What do you think?
- 59:08It's like I open a kit. You had to have a.
- 59:10Caveat here. I I have never liked Scotch, so
- 59:14OK, OK so so. Let's see what we got.
- 59:17I can. Smell it.
- 59:26It's got really good. Flavor.
- 59:27Yep, he took that like. A The smell.
- 59:32To me. It's I've been in the medical
- 59:34field. I It's a little medicinal, the
- 59:37smell a little bit like cleats. The slosh, a little bit like the
- 59:41alcohol you wipe on the patient. Yeah, you go with the surgery,
- 59:43try a little bit. Yeah, try a little bit.
- 59:46We're going to close out with this right here.
- 59:48Oh, this is it. See this is.
- 59:51It Brandon McDonald would love this.
- 59:53I'm sure I know he would with his cigars.
- 59:56Oh, oh what? Oh, if you if you, if you pair
- 59:59this with meat. It's I put a match.
- 1:00:02With me it being. It's not, it's not horrible.
- 1:00:05It's very tasty. It's just very tasty.
- 1:00:07Thank you, Sir. Very.
- 1:00:08Good. I really appreciate it.
- 1:00:09I love for sure one of the gifts.
- 1:00:13I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 1:00:14You hate the I don't hate. It I just.
- 1:00:16I mean to try again when it comes to you.
- 1:00:18Mention the house. That doesn't mean it won't get
- 1:00:21used, guys. It has been an absolute
- 1:00:24pleasure. David's a legend. 614 archery
- 1:00:26Tove here is going to be featured on a On a Bitch and
- 1:00:29Hunt here pretty soon. Oh yeah, and Brianna, she's just
- 1:00:32a legend and a nice lady as usual.
- 1:00:35And yeah, we'll see you in the next one.
- 1:00:38Thank you for watching. Now go cook some meat.
- 1:00:40I'm going to go cook some.
