- 0:19None. A hamster with a blunt pen knife
- 0:36will do it quicker. Quicker.
- 0:40Mysterious Planet, I want to get close to you and your bag of.
- 0:45Secrets. Whoa, whoa.
- 0:49Mysterious planet. I want to be close.
- 0:53To you and your habitat of the Canadian goose, welcome back to
- 0:59a hamster with a blood pen knife, The Doctor Who Come at
- 1:02That was podcast where this evening we are talking about
- 1:05episode 2 of the 1986 magnum opus, The Trail of A tag Lord.
- 1:11So yes, it's not really the mysterious planet, of course.
- 1:15Well, spoilers. Though we've had the.
- 1:18Spoilers, haven't we? We know what it is I.
- 1:20Don't know no story is not called the mysterious planet.
- 1:23We made that up. No, it's a who fans made that up
- 1:29so. The the book is called
- 1:30Mysterious Planet. Yeah, the target made it up.
- 1:34It's all, it's all. Yeah, They had to call it
- 1:36something, and they didn't want to call it Trial of a Time Lord
- 1:39parts one to four. So they made-up individual
- 1:42titles, and particularly Terror of the Vervoids is completely
- 1:45fabricated by Target. It was never on any of the
- 1:48scripts. None of these.
- 1:49Titles. No, it was always the trial of a
- 1:51Time Lord I. Believe if I'm right, the script
- 1:55that was commissioned from Pip and Jean was the ultimate for.
- 2:00Yes, and not the terror of the vervoids on the.
- 2:03Holmes's conclusion to the two-part conclusion was going to
- 2:09be Time Inc. Oh.
- 2:11That's right, yeah. But as far as I'm aware, Mind
- 2:13Warp was always mind warp in the scripting stage, and as was
- 2:16Mysterious Planet. Oh, maybe I'm wrong.
- 2:19Maybe I'm making up facts now. Maybe.
- 2:21This is the mystery. This is the mystery of the
- 2:23mysterious planet. But yes, it is mysterious
- 2:26planet. Please go away and.
- 2:28Listen to our two versions of that story and.
- 2:31Come and tell us. Which one is right?
- 2:34So obviously we need a cast of characters to talk about this,
- 2:39this episode. We need the old one.
- 2:41Say hi the old one. The old one have, you know I'm
- 2:46in the prime of my life. We need the the big boss, the
- 2:52immortal, the one that rules over us all by the iron fist.
- 2:55Say hello. You drain my energy suppliers
- 2:59with your constant infantile bickering.
- 3:03No, it does. I've just realized though, that
- 3:06leaves me as the bossy queen, doesn't it?
- 3:08Go on. You take me from a fool.
- 3:13We go. Forward.
- 3:17I have seen it in the fire. That's right, we're doing this
- 3:20commentary I've rigged into flames many times.
- 3:27Wow. So we left Part 1 with our first
- 3:34classic column bake cliffhanger. That's right.
- 3:37And can I say, because now we've got a chance to see it up close
- 3:40and personal, he was right in a twin dilemma, a noble brow, a
- 3:44face beaming with a vast intelligence.
- 3:46He was right. He.
- 3:47Was he was what I want to say about that cliffhanger and
- 3:51because we kind of touched on it it towards the end of episode 1
- 3:55is the the performances of Michael Jason column Baker.
- 4:00They are playing very opposite of each other.
- 4:05You know, Colin, for all that he's dialled everything down in
- 4:08the story itself, in the whole rubble oxy bits, he is very back
- 4:12up. You know, he's turned it right
- 4:14back up again for the court scenes.
- 4:15He is jumping up and shouting and leaping out his seat and all
- 4:20the rest of it. He's very energized, very
- 4:22dynamic, whereas Jason is still as a.
- 4:27Measured. You know he is playing it.
- 4:30He is stock still. He is very calm, very serene,
- 4:33very bruden. It is.
- 4:37It's almost as if they are two sides of the same coin.
- 4:40Oh well, goodness me. I mean, that would be a
- 4:43revelation. It wouldn't.
- 4:44Intriguing notion. I think Colin though, right,
- 4:49Colin? I know we said we love this sort
- 4:51of new, subtle, thoughtful, funny Colin, but how obnoxious
- 4:56and childish he can be and knows I love it.
- 4:58There's one bit where he scores a point over the Valley yard.
- 5:01And he sits down. Like one of those kids on
- 5:03Supernanny with the biggest smile on his face like.
- 5:06Ha ha, I got my own way. Muggus tits isn't he it's.
- 5:09Great. But he's indignant and he's
- 5:12passionate and he's loud and. Is is the doctor?
- 5:18Yes, the Doctor, as if there was any doubt.
- 5:22What I love about the trial scenes in the serious planet is
- 5:25they build so they're they start to get more contentious as they
- 5:29go along. And then in episode 4, it goes
- 5:32off like a bloody bomb between the two of them and he's like
- 5:36immature. I was unraveled trying to, you
- 5:39know, prevent a catastrophe. You know, it's fabulous.
- 5:44It really builds to like crime. Wasn't being their doctor.
- 5:48And and he gets a rise out of the Valley yard finally, which
- 5:53we've been waiting for all that time.
- 5:56Can you think of a more doctorish line than him going?
- 5:58What is it? Surely not even in the eyes of
- 6:00Time Lords. Can that be deemed immature or a
- 6:03crime? My God, I should have been the
- 6:066th Doctor. Come.
- 6:09On your whole personality aspect.
- 6:13I've got a question for you guys then.
- 6:15Who? OK, who's written the court
- 6:17scenes? Is it Holmes, is it Siewert?
- 6:20Or is it Pippen? Gene Baker.
- 6:22I I think each individual author is writing those those because
- 6:28there are differences between the stories and how they are
- 6:33written and approached. The the stackyard, you know,
- 6:37that sort of agonising joke that's only in the home scripts.
- 6:41Yes. It's a good joke, though.
- 6:44I like it. I like the name.
- 6:46I'm not going to lie. I like the name Colin.
- 6:47I think it's, it's just it's is it, is it juvenile, possibly or
- 6:53is it funny? Yes.
- 6:55Can I do? One more then, before we go in,
- 6:57please. You'll be very indulgent with me
- 6:59today, I promise I'll calm down in my warp.
- 7:01What is he goes? You belong in the knackers yard
- 7:05for for your argument. It was tired and it was worn out
- 7:08as the poor unfortunate creatures that end up there.
- 7:11You will apologize at once. But telling the truth?
- 7:14Never. Never.
- 7:18He's. The Doctor, isn't he?
- 7:20He's the doctor. He's.
- 7:22He's just, he's magnetic, he's exhilarating, he's.
- 7:27Just you can't miss him, not in that coat.
- 7:32Do you know, I just had a thought for a second.
- 7:34Like, I would have loved to have seen Capaldi play these scenes
- 7:38in the trial. I think he would.
- 7:41He could. Similarly magnificent.
- 7:43Yeah, Well, look, we've got. Colin and I'm happy about it.
- 7:50Right. Should we watch Colin?
- 7:52Yeah, of course. Then I want to see the greatest
- 7:54robotic design ever to appear in Doctor Who.
- 7:59That's and the L1. What countless in Shall I in
- 8:0954321? Do you think it's it's sort of
- 8:18nicely subtle this this music? Yeah, I do like the theme now.
- 8:24I, like I said, I just don't think it sits well with these
- 8:28titles. And if they'd had that last bit
- 8:31of money to have the Oliver Elms titles this year, because he
- 8:36was, he was contracted and he did storyboards for a title
- 8:39sequence for, for this year, a new title sequence, I think that
- 8:43would have given it a different feel and a different, a
- 8:46different look straight off. And I think that was what was
- 8:49needed because we've come back with the same kind of look.
- 8:51I think it needed another visual hook at the start to show that
- 8:55this is we've thought about this, we've done something
- 8:58different. Oh, here we go, zoom to other
- 9:03Time Lords awake. Or that one at the front looks
- 9:05like he might be nodding off. Oh no, look at the one right on
- 9:09the left at the back. Look.
- 9:10Oh yeah. He's like shut.
- 9:14What? Wake me up.
- 9:16What's going on? What do you think of the
- 9:19Valeyard's costume there? That sort of black leather
- 9:25costume he's wearing. It's a look.
- 9:31It is a look, you're right. I mean, it's, it's, it's kind of
- 9:34like it is a very much I am the bad guy look.
- 9:37Yeah, you can't really mistake who's the goody and who's the
- 9:39baddie in the trial, can you? At a glance, I do think Linda
- 9:43Pellingham looks for a splendor, knowing her.
- 9:45Swan I could. I like that.
- 9:47I like the the red sort of sash scarf that she's got.
- 9:50I think that. I love how she's got the whole
- 9:53Time Lord and not be fond but shell thing, but collar collar.
- 10:00Yeah, it's tiny, though. It's it's much.
- 10:02Yes, and it's. Stainty yeah, yes, yes.
- 10:05And there's also satin. You know you can help because
- 10:09she's a time lady with. Class So those helmets are the
- 10:14helmets from. From.
- 10:16Earth shop that's. Right.
- 10:18Oh, they're. Not they're from earth shop.
- 10:20I thought the Blake 7 ones as. Well, no, no, no.
- 10:22These are the earth shock ones that are repainted.
- 10:24When did the Blake 7 ones turn up then?
- 10:27From TIOS. OK.
- 10:30Do you like the sort of splatted paint look they've got on them
- 10:32now? I don't know what they were
- 10:34going for there, are they not? Resurrection of the Daleks as
- 10:37well. No, those are those are Dalek
- 10:42shaped. I have studied the flames,
- 10:47gentlemen, and they are angry. Yeah, we had a, we had a school
- 10:53lesson in that Hut, in that Hut. Did you pretend to be Jones
- 10:58Sims? Well, it took me a moment to
- 11:01realise where I was. It was a bit of a this looks
- 11:04familiar, but maybe there was a million to one chance there was
- 11:08an Iron Age village that I could.
- 11:11Oh miss, now I know this is where they tried to give.
- 11:14Perry to. All of those men, yes.
- 11:17Well, there's always a moment. She does have a great line about
- 11:22her. She was.
- 11:24Usually we have them one after the other.
- 11:31What do you think about the location work being on video now
- 11:35rather than film? Obviously it's the first time
- 11:36that's happened. It's it's not too bad.
- 11:41I don't think it doesn't kind of like, I mean, obviously you
- 11:45missed that sort of like film machine whip, but at the same
- 11:49time don't necessarily think it's about I.
- 11:52Think they're quite they're quite lucky because they've
- 11:54chosen some quite atmospheric locations.
- 11:56That wintry woods just has a natural atmosphere to it,
- 11:59whether it's short on video or film.
- 12:01Yeah. And I mean, and then it means
- 12:03that for Mind Warp they can do the paint box effects for the
- 12:09first time, which they wouldn't be able to do if it was all on
- 12:12film. So, you know, it's yeah.
- 12:16In in ultimate photo. It's a night shoot, isn't it?
- 12:19I don't think. Yeah.
- 12:20And it's very atmospheric. Yeah.
- 12:22So, yeah, you know it. It's all right.
- 12:25I mean, everyone always says, oh, well, everything looks cheap
- 12:28on videotape. But most BBC dramas at this time
- 12:32were were on videotape, on location, sort of late 80s.
- 12:38You got your prestigious things, which were all on film, but
- 12:40something like Howard's Way was often the location work was on
- 12:45OB as well, so you know it's not.
- 12:49House of Elliot, that definitely was.
- 12:51Oh, that was definitely all on OB.
- 12:53Yeah, so cheap. And there's your argument, Joe.
- 12:58Oh, look at these camp old thing young things.
- 13:05Yeah, sorry, it's just supposed to be a parody of Doctor Who
- 13:07fans. A pair of old Queens arguing all
- 13:09the time. I'm sure I know them both.
- 13:14That's your entire. Friendship group, what are you
- 13:16talking about? Except Fraser.
- 13:20He's very Butch. Of course.
- 13:21Does that make me druthra then? No, you're like, you're like
- 13:24dibble glitz, you know, the bit of rough that's just hanging
- 13:28tagging along. I think that.
- 13:31Is my job. That wall, yeah, that sort of
- 13:34whistle and daub wall there. It looks like it is ready to
- 13:38come down, doesn't it? I watched by a man.
- 13:44In that cell with Dibber. Oh, this has got all that
- 13:49running around in the forest at the end of the episode.
- 13:51I love those bits. Yeah, well, I really think it
- 13:53could be the end. I do genuinely think that the
- 14:02giraffe robot is a pretty stunning, bitter design.
- 14:05I love the fact that. I mean, I don't like the fact
- 14:07that the way you hold that. The secrets.
- 14:09Like a limp handbag. But that's the only thing I
- 14:12object to. I love all just all of the help
- 14:14me out here the difference. Yeah.
- 14:19The way all those opposable appendages, yes, that he's got.
- 14:24How did I do? Yeah, and, and he's big as well.
- 14:29He's very tall. I'm going to say something
- 14:30controversial when I think he's better than the K1 in robot.
- 14:35It can move better. Because he's so fucking
- 14:38cumbersome. That robot and the hysterisks
- 14:42are even limper. I'm not too sure about the
- 14:46movement. I think you know Drafa was very
- 14:49shuffly. It was because he's shuffling.
- 14:53Key key One robot can waddle a bit a bit, you know, draft.
- 14:58I think in 100 meter Sprint it might take like 2 days but I
- 15:02think K1 would probably win over draft.
- 15:06You better watch out, Fraser. I'm going to give Janice Ellis
- 15:08your number, all right? That's her dad in there.
- 15:12I said you don't. Sorry.
- 15:14You must have seen that when you were in Nipper when?
- 15:17Franchise Blue Peter. I missed that because I was
- 15:20doing my homework. No, I love it when she opens her
- 15:24up and. She goes, oh, hello,
- 15:25Pennsylvania. Yeah.
- 15:27Is he not in the little one? Oh, is he?
- 15:32Yeah, he's in the little one. Yes, because it's, yeah, it's a
- 15:34very tall actor who's in draft row.
- 15:37That's not the actor. I'm gonna have to.
- 15:45Check now because I did look this up and it wasn't.
- 15:48It's not the guy doing the voice.
- 15:49No, it's not Roger, really. It's Paul McGuinness who's a
- 15:53visual effects person. What do I know that name?
- 15:55Roger Breeley. Because you're thinking of David
- 15:59Brierley. Who?
- 15:59Was supposed that's. Right, they're no relation.
- 16:02And that's exactly what I thought.
- 16:03Oh my God, he named did Russell and then no.
- 16:05I do like that robot with the Caterpillar tracks as well.
- 16:09Yeah, yeah. I just think some thoughts gone
- 16:11into the designs. I mean, it's no the quarks
- 16:15Fraser, but that's. All you know.
- 16:17Yeah, it's. Possible.
- 16:18What is? Just the Chumleys, probably, but
- 16:21never mind. So I I would like to stand in
- 16:24for your absent father and give you away, my dear.
- 16:30No, no, dear boy. We may need these brutish
- 16:34primitives. What's up the hamster?
- 16:36Audience. Oh no.
- 16:41Hello everyone. I have a question for you 2
- 16:45gentlemen. OK.
- 16:47It is the format after all. So obviously Bob Holmes is
- 16:50famous for his double acts. Yes.
- 16:54Throughout his his stories, where do you rank Blitz and
- 16:56Dibber in the pantheon of Bob Holmes classic double acts?
- 17:01Oh, pretty good. Hi I I I'm really surprised that
- 17:06Dibber didn't come back in Ultimate Foe and Dragon Fire.
- 17:10I think he should have done because I I think they're better
- 17:13as a duo than he is as a character on his own.
- 17:16Yes, Dibber plays a very good straight man to to glitz.
- 17:19Yeah, and you need that. I think that's that's good.
- 17:22And Glenn Murphy plays it very well.
- 17:26You can see why I had a career right right after.
- 17:28That. Oh, absolutely.
- 17:29Yeah, it was a massive name in the 90s.
- 17:31It was London's burning was his big thing, wasn't it?
- 17:34Yeah. And I watched that.
- 17:36I watched London's Burning even though I have no interest in
- 17:38firefighting whatsoever. Just because you're.
- 17:41Interested in him? No.
- 17:42Because he played Dimmer in the Mysterious Planet and I wouldn't
- 17:45do that bloody rod thing of watching as in other things.
- 17:48Oh God, we've all done that. Come on.
- 17:50We have. It's true.
- 17:52I'm not sure what else Adam Blackwood has done, but I'm sure
- 17:55it was fabulous. He was in the 90s version of the
- 17:58Tomorrow People. Was he?
- 18:01He was. He was in the Culex experiment.
- 18:05With Jean Marsh. With Jean Marsh.
- 18:07Who did he play in that? He's the doctor that examines
- 18:10the young lad who when he gets bitten by the wasp and gets
- 18:14involved in their adventures. And he's also in the Blake 7
- 18:18adventure Assassin as one of them one of the people bidding
- 18:23at the slave auction. What a career.
- 18:27Be silent, fat one I've. Used that one a few times, you
- 18:32know, Mark says that to me quite a lot, you know.
- 18:36Who? Who was that director person we
- 18:37need to talk about? Nicholas.
- 18:39Mallard. Because that's a lovely shot
- 18:41there. Where could we are saying I have
- 18:43studied the fires and it is shot through the fires?
- 18:45That's there are tons of lovely shots in this.
- 18:48Now, I don't think Nicholas Mallett is one of the strongest
- 18:51directors we ever had, but I think he does something with
- 18:53this story that he doesn't do with any of his others and he
- 18:57just gives it a nice light touch.
- 19:01I think paradise towers by its very nature is is darker, even
- 19:04though it is a comedy technically and obviously Curtis
- 19:07Fenrick's very dark, but I I like I like the sort of
- 19:12effervescence of this story. It's not taking itself too
- 19:16seriously. I think he's.
- 19:17Better on location overall. Well, keep in mind what were you
- 19:23didn't have much of a chance in Paradise Towers of doing that.
- 19:26No, no. Only yeah, only the.
- 19:28But obviously for Fenrick, he was on location the whole time,
- 19:31so he. Hadn't had no choice for that
- 19:33one. Oh, this is so funny, they
- 19:36start. Taking all the things out of
- 19:37Colin's jacket and they pull out this teddy bear and he looks so
- 19:40affronted he grabs it straight back.
- 19:42Doesn't he Give him our teddy bear back?
- 19:44And his cat mask. Thank you.
- 19:47I can't, I cannot really put my finger on it.
- 19:50He is just lighter, isn't it? He's.
- 19:53Yes. I don't feel as if he's going to
- 19:56put his hands around their necks and kill those two men, which
- 19:59would have been a possibility in Season 22.
- 20:04Do stop prodding me. There's a good fellow.
- 20:09The trainer pull out his bouffant.
- 20:11Oh, it's annoying. In this episode.
- 20:15There is a lot of this episode that I use all the time.
- 20:17Whenever, you know, you ask people, well, what is it you
- 20:19want to do? And they say, well, you know,
- 20:20I'm, I'm studying and I always go, that's where the money is.
- 20:25I've done that on board. All the time.
- 20:31Mind you, I also say that thing about size on the mouth size of
- 20:33the. Brain and rebels are dance, so
- 20:35Doctor Who quotes do come in handy.
- 20:37Me do but. Don't you love the way Colin
- 20:40runs rings? Around them in a minute.
- 20:42You hold that. You hold that.
- 20:43Right, that should just. Do it bag.
- 20:48New handrail. Yeah, this is the only bit.
- 20:51That's really crotal ish, isn't it?
- 20:54These two. Yeah, I, yeah, it's that, yeah.
- 20:57It's yeah, it's, you know, that's another criticism I hear
- 21:03about this, this story a lot is it's just, you know, Bob Holmes
- 21:06greatest hits. What's wrong with that?
- 21:10He's a great. This, I mean, this is the thing
- 21:12to have have a greatest hits, you have to have hits, so.
- 21:19Oh, The Beatles greatest hits. Oh, you're, you know.
- 21:24What's that album by The Beatles?
- 21:25Monsters. Beatles doing Beatles songs.
- 21:27I mean, I do think there is a lot of very mess of dialogue
- 21:30here. She just went, yeah.
- 21:31Is this relevant at the audience?
- 21:34Who's thinking of the exact? Moment.
- 21:37And so there's a fine line between pointing it out and
- 21:41pointing. Out that the story isn't
- 21:43working, you know it's a very fine line.
- 21:45It's a very fun name, but if anyone's going to be able to do
- 21:47it, it's Bob Holmes, isn't it? Yeah.
- 21:51Philip Martin gives it a good, good stab when he he does gives
- 21:55the value of the calculation of how many times the companions in
- 21:58danger compared to the Doctor and and things like that.
- 22:01So. Oh, you won't miss a mind war
- 22:04we've barely started. Yeah.
- 22:08We'll get there. We'll get.
- 22:10And you are obviously a robot who's very used to get in his
- 22:13own way. I've.
- 22:15Met a lot of customers like that, you know.
- 22:19There's there's a lot of hamster contributors who are like.
- 22:26Hey, I just wrote, what are you talking about?
- 22:29I've listened to every every strictly I know.
- 22:35Oh, we go, well, you'll do it or die.
- 22:39And Colin goes, oh, you haven't given much choice, have you,
- 22:42That? Was quite nice shot over Lynn
- 22:45the back of Linda Bellingham towards Colin.
- 22:48I'm thinking that that's. They make them.
- 22:50Slightly different. Do you know what I would have
- 22:52done? And it would have been
- 22:54expensive, but like once an episode I would have done, you
- 22:57know, how they did the glass shots in front of us where and I
- 23:01would make them so they're on some vast, you know, I mean,
- 23:04it's a huge room and we're just cutting into one part of it.
- 23:07Yeah, I think that would have given it a sense of scale.
- 23:12And then put maybe like an echo on everybody's voices to to make
- 23:15it feel bigger there. He is.
- 23:17There's that. Smug.
- 23:17Smug. There's smug Colin, Yeah.
- 23:19I think you know, you know the there's a lot which is kind of
- 23:22like it's the doctor shot over the valley yards shoulder, but
- 23:25then there's like front on shots of the valley front on shots of
- 23:27the doctor making it look there's a lot of angle where
- 23:30he's. Good.
- 23:31Yeah, he's giving it a bit bit of thought.
- 23:33It's not just. I will plunk the camera here and
- 23:35we'll leave it at the RIZ. I loved him so much, he goes.
- 23:39I would have just got a bullet in the back of the head.
- 23:41Much more economical. It's a nice little thread of
- 23:47black Uber. Well, you can play at being the
- 23:50slave driver all you want, Fraser.
- 23:53Oh, actually. Oh, no.
- 23:55Moves on quick. There's a touch of the
- 23:58creightons about draft through, I feel.
- 24:00Go on. In that he's essentially he's
- 24:03the bog bot. You know, he's, he's lording it
- 24:06all over the society, but basically he's the guy that, you
- 24:09know, fits the the, the black light system.
- 24:13He doesn't know how to fix it. All he knows is how to install
- 24:16it. He's not he's not that good a
- 24:20robot. Obviously you've got L1, which
- 24:22is the little ship on wheels and you've got him as the L3.
- 24:26Presumably there's some sort of L5 robot or L7 robot or
- 24:30something which is actually a lot more capable.
- 24:32He's the L3, he's the bog bot in charge of this entire community.
- 24:37It's and he's. Sort of in a way, isn't he?
- 24:40Like he's. Yeah, he's, he's bound by his
- 24:43programming and he's been given an instruction and that's it.
- 24:48You're all going to follow this to to the letter because there
- 24:51isn't anything else. He's got no extra capability to,
- 24:56you know, evolve beyond that. Did you hear Colin?
- 25:00Then he went. Oh, how did you put up with him?
- 25:05That's what people say to you about me.
- 25:11I I do like though, how Drafra occasionally the the fella does
- 25:15the dialogue like a petulant child, you know?
- 25:17Yeah, I've told you, without me they have no function, you know.
- 25:22But also there's a kind of weariness to him as well, which
- 25:25I I rather like as well. So there's a bit of bit of the
- 25:28Marvin the Paranoid androids as well.
- 25:31I do genuinely think of it. The scene between the doctor and
- 25:34Draffer in episode 4 where they're talking about the
- 25:37meaning of life, it's one of the symptoms.
- 25:39Very good, yes. It's it's poetic, it's great
- 25:44dialogue. Well, that should just about do
- 25:47it. Press this button here.
- 25:49Like I can imagine Trout and doing all this.
- 25:51Yeah. This is the robot.
- 25:55Over there. Oh dear, why don't people like
- 26:01this? What's?
- 26:02Wrong with you people. This is fun.
- 26:07Look how easily they overpower those guards.
- 26:11Actually, to be fair, at that party I was talking about moves
- 26:14along quick. Oh, so I have you concealed
- 26:19yourself in a muddy crevice before?
- 26:21Oh, once or twice. Stop it.
- 26:29Oh, the music now, right when they're running through the
- 26:32woods and it sort of builds and builds.
- 26:34It goes on for about two or three minutes and it's a it's a
- 26:37great track on Dominic Lin soundtrack.
- 26:42Someone did a version of it on YouTube.
- 26:43I'll put it in the on X when we do it.
- 26:47OK, Basically made that music. It's the same music, but they've
- 26:50sort of new series it. That's fabulous.
- 26:55Is that the same cameras from Barros?
- 26:58Probably. I think it might be.
- 27:02Look at transpose arms. So every part's moving, yeah.
- 27:06He's even got a little Butler, he's got a line where his arse
- 27:09is. As Roper asses go, you know.
- 27:16Someone move us on quick. Well, we're moving on to the L1
- 27:21and in lovely speeded up videotape, yeah.
- 27:24But look, he's got a Caterpillar track, so he can turn the
- 27:27corner. So he can go, yeah, and he can
- 27:28go on location. Although when he picks up the
- 27:32doctor, it looks obscene. She wait.
- 27:37Oh, this was the bit that Rod. Was really unhappy about with
- 27:39the direction, he said. It's a bit obvious that you can
- 27:41see grill there in the background.
- 27:44Well obviously when you shoot from over grill shorter but.
- 27:49That's what I say to everyone at work, you know, if you're going
- 27:51to gossip, do a three 61st, then sell the gossip.
- 27:55Yeah, yeah, at least do a Daleks in Manhattan Dalek and have a
- 27:59look round behind you. Any.
- 28:01Grills about no right? Listen to me, I'm sending you up
- 28:05to the surface. Well, the balance is also cute,
- 28:07isn't he? He's he's properly innocent.
- 28:12Yeah, this is this. This is what you'd be like if
- 28:15you was in the underground base site.
- 28:17Well, I would be the keeper of the books, wouldn't I?
- 28:19He would. And he's.
- 28:22Very tall as well. Yeah, I could pull off a
- 28:25fetching yellow boiler suit I think.
- 28:28I do you know what? This conjures up my childhood
- 28:31more than anything. Running around woods with like
- 28:33lots of crackly leaves all over the.
- 28:35Phone, yeah, and mine as well used.
- 28:36To love it and burying yourself in the leaves.
- 28:41It's definitely a certain time of year they filmed this, isn't
- 28:44it? Yeah, it's it looks very cold.
- 28:48Well, they're running around in a minute.
- 28:50It was it was it? Well, actually.
- 28:54Was it? Yeah.
- 28:57It was because. There is a leaf on that tree.
- 29:01April surely is spring let. Me double check the The Old Six
- 29:05Doctor Handbook I. Think Fraser is right?
- 29:09Thank God you've got the Howard James stammers and whatever it
- 29:12is handbook on you. I like the circle of tunnels.
- 29:17Well, it's the arc in pace thing, isn't it?
- 29:19Side where you can sort of shoot and it always feels like it's
- 29:22going around. Yeah, and brilliantly, they
- 29:26repurpose those tunnels for mind warp.
- 29:29Did you? See Jason shooting, 8th of April
- 29:331980, sixth of the 11th. Of the OK.
- 29:35Spring has was early, very early spring, yeah.
- 29:40Colleague went round the corner there and went whoops and then
- 29:43when the other one. Whoops.
- 29:47Oh boy. No, I don't want to.
- 29:52I have come to see a lot in Peter Davidson's performance as
- 29:56the Doctor. Yeah, but I think Colin has a
- 30:00different energy. He certainly has a lot more
- 30:04personality on the and I think he's got more presence.
- 30:10He has, but I think it's it's very out there, you know, you
- 30:17can't miss it. It's like.
- 30:18It's very theatrical. Yes.
- 30:20I love it though. I think Davison does exactly the
- 30:23same. Just you it's, it's sort of I
- 30:28think. So yeah, I think, yeah, Davidson
- 30:31does TV acting and Colin does theatre acting, yeah.
- 30:36So that's why I think you could probably watch Davidson's
- 30:38performances now in the modern day, which is very, yeah.
- 30:41He's more, yeah. But I think that's why some
- 30:44people prefer Colin's. TV.
- 30:46Yeah, absolutely. Because that's that's a style of
- 30:48performance that's gone now on the whole.
- 30:52Yeah, there was back in the day in in DWB, they did a 25th
- 30:58anniversary special and they got various fans to write reviews of
- 31:03seasons and Gary Russell brilliantly did season 21.
- 31:08But he did it like the Valliard watching the adventures,
- 31:12choosing which doctor to take out of time.
- 31:15And he said, and it sort of gets to the twin dilemma and he says,
- 31:18and now this is the doctor that I would want to take on because
- 31:21he's going to trip himself up. He's he's going to be serious.
- 31:24And this 5th doctor, he's too thoughtful, he's too nice.
- 31:27Said we want someone that we're going to butt heads with.
- 31:30And I just remember that being being a really good piece of
- 31:34sort of observation. You want a meta joke?
- 31:38I mean, you said it earlier. I really think this could be
- 31:41the. Gentlemen.
- 31:47Yes. We're 2 for two.
- 31:50We are. If you get a zoom.
- 31:52It was wasn't It's quite a crash zoom, but there was a slight
- 31:55zoom down on Colin Baker's face at the end of episode 2, so we
- 31:57have two for two. I can't remember the end of
- 31:59three. Oh yeah, it was when Merdean's
- 32:03going to shoot him, isn't it? I don't know if he gets a zoom
- 32:06then, though. I think it's just a static shot.
- 32:10Oh well, maybe it hadn't come down yet.
- 32:12Well, obviously, you know, we're skipping ahead.
- 32:14We've got that. I was watching all of that chase
- 32:17work then whilst we were talking and he was shooting that from
- 32:21about six or seven directions. So I think you're right, the
- 32:24location work is quite strong. Yeah.
- 32:27And yeah, I think the chase comes over really well because
- 32:29they've got a big location and they can they can use different
- 32:33bits. But it also Dominic Glynn's
- 32:36music really drives the motion of those scenes as well.
- 32:40So. It's just everybody working sort
- 32:42of fused together in a really exactly good creative way.
- 32:47John Nathan Turner, he could pull together a good crew.
- 32:50Yeah, yeah, he knows the people who can do this stuff by this
- 32:53point. You just won't have them back
- 32:56again. Just fall out with them, yeah.
- 33:02I won't do the joke about going out to lunch for.
- 33:04About me again. I'll cut it out.
- 33:08I'll cut it there.
