Transcript
- 0:11Hello and welcome to Nick and Kristen in the podcast.
- 0:13I'm Nick. That's Kristen.
- 0:14We're a married couple. We've got a daughter.
- 0:16She's 7. We're going to get to that and
- 0:18how we're going out of our way to splurge one last time on a
- 0:23big trip. But first I want to get to
- 0:25what's something about marriage that nobody warned you would be
- 0:28this annoying? Now I feel like I always go
- 0:31first, but do you want to go? I I've tried to prepare for this
- 0:34so I I think the most annoying thing about marriage that no one
- 0:39prepared me for is having to wait to watch a show that I know
- 0:44you want to watch. Like I think they're because you
- 0:48go to bed before me and I stay up all night and I I have
- 0:51nothing to do And all I want to do is watch the shows that I
- 0:55want to watch when I want to watch them, but I can't because
- 0:58I know you want to watch them and I want to watch them with
- 1:01you and that's annoying. So it's not like I, it's not
- 1:04like you're making me wait for you.
- 1:06It's not like you have decided that I can't watch it.
- 1:09You're not telling me what I can and can't do.
- 1:11It's just I want to watch them with you, but you're just never
- 1:14there so that we can watch them. Wow, my answer is way more
- 1:18hurtful than this one. So all right, yeah.
- 1:20I mean, I like your answer, but it's it's true, though.
- 1:23I mean, I do go to bed early because I have to work.
- 1:25I I said marriage, not our marriage specifically, but all
- 1:29right, what you? Got Well, I my answer was the
- 1:32most annoying thing about marriage that nobody prepared
- 1:34for was that you become or I became the cruise director of
- 1:39our lives without me knowing. All of a sudden it feels like no
- 1:44decision can be made without checking in with me or me
- 1:48answering the question. Like it's always like, what are
- 1:50we doing today? When are we having dinner?
- 1:53What's for lunch? Like where do we want to go
- 1:56today? And it's just like, I don't
- 1:57know, like I woke up the same person you did.
- 2:01Like why all of a sudden isn't required of me to answer all the
- 2:05questions about everything. Like, is there laundry going?
- 2:08It's like, I don't know, go look, are these dishes clean?
- 2:11It's like check you. Don't realize you're going to
- 2:13have to answer so many questions right?
- 2:14Like. There's so many questions.
- 2:16Me. It's Lily too.
- 2:17Our daughter. Well, it's Lily too.
- 2:18And it's like if you put it into the context, I know you don't
- 2:22have a job right now, but if you were to put it in the context of
- 2:25a job, like you wouldn't go to your boss in the morning and be
- 2:28like, So what, What am I doing today?
- 2:30Yeah, It's like, no, you would just do your job, the one that
- 2:33you've been doing. Like you wouldn't be like, So
- 2:36what are we doing at this event? It's like, no, you would know,
- 2:39like why all of all of a sudden when when you're home does like
- 2:44full body amnesia come over you And like all of a sudden we
- 2:48can't, we can't decide or decipher for ourselves anything.
- 2:54I'm married to my boss, so that's one reason why I don't
- 2:56care what he thinks I should do because he's assigned me a job.
- 3:00He said when you go to work, this is what you do.
- 3:02And so I do that as far. But in our marriage, things that
- 3:06we do, we do together. So there's things that I want to
- 3:09do and I don't know if you want to do them.
- 3:12And so I have to check with you. For instance, lunch, could I
- 3:15just make myself lunch and be like hope she figures it out?
- 3:18Or do I want to decide if you want to have lunch with me and
- 3:22if you want to have lunch with me, would you?
- 3:24What would you like for lunch like because I am open it just.
- 3:28Becomes a just a spiral of questions that I have to answer.
- 3:32And if I don't answer them, then it's like, well, I guess
- 3:34nobody's eating lunch and it's like, well, no, like just figure
- 3:37it out. Like I'll make myself a tuna
- 3:38sandwich. Like when did everything have to
- 3:41be like collaborated on? It doesn't if you tell me the no
- 3:46collaboration is needed, but we have to, we have to come
- 3:49together because I don't want to then face the guilt of you
- 3:53coming and saying, Oh, did you have lunch without me?
- 3:57Like you didn't even think about me.
- 3:59I was like, no, I thought about you.
- 4:01I just decided to not ask you a question one time.
- 4:05And so like, I'm not waiting. I'm not going to get myself in
- 4:08because I, I, my level of caring what we do is very low.
- 4:12As long as you're there, I'm there.
- 4:14And so and you become the director because you like to do
- 4:17things and I just like to do what you're doing.
- 4:19So like I'm. Yeah.
- 4:21I know, but like, would you just never leave the house if it was
- 4:23me? No, I would.
- 4:24Make my decisions. Would you actually like just
- 4:26never go anywhere and do anything?
- 4:29Would you just be paralyzed by the weight of the decisions?
- 4:32There are things that I want to do, things that I can do, and
- 4:35things that I don't do because you don't.
- 4:36Want to do that? Are they in the room with us?
- 4:38Like I'm looking around at all these things you want to do and
- 4:42I don't hear any of them ever coming to the table.
- 4:44Because you don't want to do any of those.
- 4:45Well, what are they? Like I would like to go bowling.
- 4:48OK, but you can't afford it. I know I can't afford it, so I
- 4:52don't know. I'd like to go for a walk.
- 4:53Sometimes I go look around the mall at the stuff I can't buy
- 4:57like. I know I have to be there.
- 4:59You don't have to be there, but I'd like you to be.
- 5:01I'd like because, you know, we don't hang out much.
- 5:03And so since we don't have a show, we don't talk to each
- 5:05other anymore. And so this is our only 15
- 5:08minutes where we actually engaged.
- 5:09I know. And so I'd like you to be
- 5:11somewhere that I'm at so that we can like, hang out.
- 5:14I know, but like I become the end all be all.
- 5:17Like if you came to me and was like, man, I'd love to go walk
- 5:19around the mall. Do you want to come walk around
- 5:21the mall with me? And I'd be like, I don't feel
- 5:22like it. You'd be like, well, I guess I'm
- 5:24not walking around the mall then and.
- 5:25It's just. Like you, you go.
- 5:27Oh man, I really wanted to walk around the mall.
- 5:30Well, I guess I could do. That.
- 5:32It's just like, just go. I don't want to walk around the
- 5:35mall alone. I want to walk around the mall
- 5:37with you. So like, I get that you're
- 5:40independent and you don't care if I'm anywhere with you.
- 5:43I would like you to be hanging out with me whenever I can.
- 5:45I know it's just 1000 questions. Why don't you want to go to the
- 5:48mall? What's wrong with you?
- 5:50What's what did you are you and if I didn't ask like no, it just
- 5:53sounds awful. If I didn't ask like an awful
- 5:55time. If I didn't ask you questions,
- 5:56we'd never do anything because you make plans and then you just
- 5:59do the plans. Yeah, I make the plans and then
- 6:01I wake up and you go, what are we doing?
- 6:03And it's like, oh, hey, like, because I knew nothing would be
- 6:06planned from you. Yeah, I have the whole day
- 6:07planned. I don't make plans, so I'm the.
- 6:10First director of life. I wake up, I put on my little
- 6:12captain's app. Captain Fun over here.
- 6:14Hey everybody, guess what? Everybody get up because we're
- 6:17going on a hike today. Then after that we're going to
- 6:19the farmers market and everyone's like yay, and I'm
- 6:22over here managing snacks and all this kind of stuff.
- 6:24It's like everyone's just having a great time.
- 6:26We're all just following people. Up having the best time except.
- 6:28For me, yeah, everyone, I would get the snacks.
- 6:30You got to delegate. Like if you, once you figure out
- 6:33what we're doing, tell us what to do.
- 6:35No, see, you're a grown person. You go shame.
- 6:37Moss, I know I'm supposed to be here at this thing, but what is
- 6:40it that I do? Can you make me a list?
- 6:42Give me a title No. Just figure it out.
- 6:44Make me snack direct. Assistant Captain Fun.
- 6:46Just get to it I'll. Be the one that backs us next.
- 6:49All right, so let's talk about Speaking of someone playing
- 6:52cruise writers. We're going on a cruise that
- 6:55Kristen 100% planned. And why wouldn't I?
- 6:58Just proving it because I don't make decisions in this house, so
- 7:02it's fine. I let Kristen 'cause he makes
- 7:05all the best decisions. So we're going on a cruise.
- 7:08She decided to splurge and go. All out.
- 7:10Well, OK, so this the context needed here.
- 7:14She just dropped thousands of. Dollars I dropped thousands of
- 7:18dollars that I had OK, this was money I had saved.
- 7:23And I was like, I have no immediate need for this money
- 7:26right now. Wouldn't that be nice?
- 7:27And it was like the greatest moment of my life.
- 7:30I was like, I can just drop this money on a cruise for my family
- 7:33and it's not going to affect me because I had two full time jobs
- 7:36and Nick had a full time job so. I was like one month.
- 7:39We had three full time. Incomes and I was like this is
- 7:42amazing. My, I have zero credit card debt
- 7:44like this. This is fabulous.
- 7:45I'm going to splurge. I'm going to have super fun.
- 7:47Three weeks later after I paid for this cruise fired.
- 7:51And so it's paid for. It's like, all right, we're
- 7:54going OK. But the thing that I splurged on
- 7:57is we're going on this Disney Cruise, which already is just
- 8:00outrageous for what it is, but I paid for us to be concierge,
- 8:04which is like the VIP kind of experience.
- 8:08Yeah, I'd never heard of concierge before until you came
- 8:10to me and said because like things in life, there are tears.
- 8:13To everything, to the fun, you want to have more fun, pay more
- 8:16money. And I hate I'm everything
- 8:18against this, but my thing was the reason I chose this is
- 8:22because this is probably the only Disney cruise that we're
- 8:24going to go on. Lily's not super into Disney.
- 8:27I'm not. We wouldn't go like without her.
- 8:31It's really just a sort of test the waters and introduce her to
- 8:33cruise life. And then after that, we're going
- 8:35to go on Carnival, you know? What I mean?
- 8:36Like we'll go somewhere that we actually want to go.
- 8:38And this is sort of just like the gateway into the cruise
- 8:41world. And I had heard through the
- 8:42Grapevine like, if you want to do anything on the ship, you
- 8:45have to be concierge. If you want to see the plays, if
- 8:48you want like a seat at the pool, you have to be concierge
- 8:51because they'll save the seats for you.
- 8:53And they'll also save the seats in the theater.
- 8:55And so you don't have to wait for an hour or two in a line to
- 9:00get. In there.
- 9:02If you want to meet Mickey, you don't have to wait for three
- 9:04hours while mom stands in line and everybody has fun.
- 9:07And I was like, no, I want to have fun on this cruise too.
- 9:09I don't want to spend time waiting in line and then texting
- 9:11everybody when we're at the beginning of the line.
- 9:14So I got this and now I'm starting to see like all the
- 9:17things that come with Concierge and it's starting to make me
- 9:20feel really bad about my decision.
- 9:22Yeah, like I hate it so much. And because I, I, it's such a
- 9:29class division on so many levels.
- 9:32I hated when they started bringing it to Disneyland where
- 9:34like you need the fast pass, you got a book ahead and you have.
- 9:37Like all these? Like it's just, I don't, I hate
- 9:39the fact that you have to pay more for more fun to have the
- 9:43same fun that should be available to everyone.
- 9:45And it's on many different things that I have this problem
- 9:48with and and I feel terrible about.
- 9:52It I do too and. At the same time, I'm very
- 9:56excited to do these things. Right.
- 9:59But I'm going to feel bad the whole time I'm doing it.
- 10:01I watched, I watched a video. So concierge, you get to have a
- 10:04cabana like on the beach, you have to pay extra for it.
- 10:06So it doesn't like come with it. But like I got a cabana on the
- 10:09beach and they're like, if you want out of the brutal Bahamas
- 10:13sun, like you need to have this cabana.
- 10:15So I booked that again when I had money and money.
- 10:18'S no object. I've got three.
- 10:19Yeah, I. Was like, oh it's fine, just pay
- 10:21for it. And I saw a video and I was
- 10:23like, here's why you book Cabana at the the Island resort.
- 10:28And it showed like 400 people playing in the water and every
- 10:32inch of the sand taken. And then it panned to where
- 10:35there's like a bunch of buoys separating and it panned to an
- 10:39empty beach with like 4 kids playing in the water.
- 10:42And it was like concierge versus everyone else.
- 10:46And I was like, that's disgusting.
- 10:49Like it just feels disgusting that my kids going to be like
- 10:53have the beach to herself. Like no, no waiting in anything.
- 10:57And we have a Butler that comes and brings us.
- 11:00Lunch and it's not even like the highest you can.
- 11:01Pay for all this is. Like we're still poor.
- 11:04We're the poor concierge. Like you can go up tears from
- 11:07this. And I was just like, wow, this
- 11:09is so disgusting. We have our own, our own pool,
- 11:13like, we have our own like lunch area where you could have your
- 11:16own lunch that has upgraded food, not the swine that
- 11:19everything everybody else eats. And I was just like, Oh my God,
- 11:22it's awful. I thought I just wasn't going to
- 11:24have to wait in stuff. Yeah, even then I would have
- 11:26felt bad, like even then, Yeah. Because like they waited for an
- 11:29hour and then I just walk in like from the beach.
- 11:32I'm like private beach to just like.
- 11:34And it feels like I feel like I'm better than them.
- 11:37Oh, totally. But and I think that they think
- 11:39that I think they're better. And so it's like.
- 11:41I'm not better than anybody. And like, another thing that
- 11:43sealed the deal is from the, the boat to the beach, it's like a
- 11:46mile walk. And they, they were told me
- 11:49they're like, Oh yeah, don't worry.
- 11:50Like we'll have a private golf cart for your family so you
- 11:53don't have to walk. And I was like, Oh my God, Can
- 11:56you imagine? It's again, it's cool because
- 12:00it's a. Good thing to experience.
- 12:02I would pay. For it and and again, like when
- 12:04we had three full time incomes, it was very much like, let's
- 12:08just really splurge, let's have a really great time.
- 12:11And and but now it's like we're setting the precedent.
- 12:14And it's. Like, Oh no.
- 12:15Honey like. This is never going to happen
- 12:16ever again. Like we're never going even on
- 12:19another trip up. It's like it's going to be like
- 12:21five years. Enjoy your vacation the 1st
- 12:24until you graduate. Yeah.
- 12:26And so that's why we didn't refund it.
- 12:28I don't know if we can get it refunded but.
- 12:30Yeah, I would lose a bunch of money on it.
- 12:32Yeah. And so now that we have no
- 12:36prospects and like we're now more into let's just go live
- 12:40this amazing life for three days and then come back and hate
- 12:43everything and just go back to work like and then and never
- 12:46live that again. So this.
- 12:47Is like, this is a once in a lifetime experience.
- 12:49We are 100% never doing this again.
- 12:52I know, I know that she's going to enjoy the Disney Cruise, but
- 12:55she doesn't care about the Disney aspect of it.
- 12:57So once that's over and done with, we'll probably never ever
- 13:00do do this ever again. You can clip this next year when
- 13:02I'm like, oh, by the way, we're going on a Disney cruise.
- 13:05I saved all year and donated a plasma because she had such a
- 13:07blast. But it's one of those things
- 13:09where it's like, I never plan on doing this again.
- 13:11So this. Is it?
- 13:12I'm going to be just know I'm going to be very upset sitting
- 13:15at my private pool drinking my Mai Tai that was delivered by a
- 13:19Butler to only me, enjoying just the sun.
- 13:22That's my portion of the sun that bakes me, but only.
- 13:25Perfectly, it doesn't. Yeah, it's not as UV rays.
- 13:28And then somebody, I know we're running out of time, but
- 13:30somebody said, oh, and don't forget to tell the concierge
- 13:32staff, like what you would like when you come back to your room.
- 13:35They said, we love those little ice creams that are in the shape
- 13:38of Mickey and like dipped in chocolate.
- 13:39And they said. So we told them like, hey, every
- 13:42time we come back to our room at the end of the night, can you
- 13:45give us one of those ice creams? And every single night there was
- 13:47a somebody waiting there at their door giving them the ice
- 13:50cream. Hey, Happy family.
- 13:51Here you go. And I was like, how do you even
- 13:54ask for that? I would be so embarrassed to be
- 13:57like, hey, can you make sure that like I never have a
- 14:00different or like can I have a different towel for every single
- 14:03time I wipe my face? I forget what movie that is, but
- 14:05it's like the person that went to drink.
- 14:07It's like, can you make. Oh, I think it was How I Met
- 14:09Your Mother. Yeah.
- 14:09Which is like I always have every.
- 14:11Time. This always has to be full.
- 14:12Make sure it's always full. She drinks it, she puts it down,
- 14:15she gets a new one. Yeah, Like, thank you.
- 14:17That's how it's going to be. It's so insane.
- 14:19We get to board the boat before anyone else and then we get
- 14:22escorted to a restaurant that is only open for us for an
- 14:25exclusive lunch that no one else gets to take advantage of.
- 14:28And it sounds like we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars
- 14:30on it. It was just slightly more
- 14:32expensive than just going. On it was actually somewhat of a
- 14:34decent deal. Like, I mean, it's it's
- 14:36outrageous. You could go to it like a seven
- 14:38day Alaskan cruise with how much we're spending on this.
- 14:41But still, it was like, oh, like, that seems kind of worth
- 14:44it to like not have to stand in line to stuff when I had three
- 14:48jobs. Well, we'll tell you it's not
- 14:51till August. So everything he changed.
- 14:53It's going to be the greatest time of our lives.
- 14:54We're going to come back and we'll be so sad to be poor.
- 14:57It's. Just going to be the we're the
- 14:59highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
- 15:02Thank you to the Clark County Trash Bandits for sponsoring the
- 15:04show. Maybe they'll take us on a
- 15:07cruise in the future. If the Clark County trash pandas
- 15:10ever go on like a booze cruise, yeah, we're there on the horn
- 15:13blower. We'll come on, hang and party
- 15:15with you. Guys, they win the Basketball
- 15:16League championship. Is that a thing?
- 15:18We can go as teammates and support them.
- 15:21Well, you're going to be the official DJ.
- 15:22Do you get a ring if they win? I don't know how I think so.
- 15:25You're like they get. Rings.
- 15:27I don't know. The Basketball League, if they
- 15:31win it, is there a trophy that you also get as part of the
- 15:34staff? I don't.
- 15:34Know I'll have to look that up, but don't forget to go like them
- 15:37at Clark County Trash Bans. Well, you go to the Clark County
- 15:39Trash bans.com like them on Facebook.
- 15:42Thank them for sponsoring our show because they believe in us
- 15:45and we believe in them. No money from the Clark County
- 15:47trash pandas is being used for the screws by the way.
- 15:49Yes exactly. It's not funneling it just it's
- 15:51my electric bill. Straight back into the.
- 15:54No, it's the podcast. The podcast.
- 15:55But mostly the elections. Yeah.
- 15:57But thank you for watching. We'll catch you on the next one.
