- 0:00Speaker 1: Music Spring has sprung. Spring in Australia where you go
- 0:10Speaker 1: to sleep in a winter woolly blanket and wake up
- 0:13Speaker 1: needing a personal cyclone fan because summer decided to arrive
- 0:16Speaker 1: at 9am. 9th of September, spring has sprung. Already time
- 0:19Speaker 1: for me to start putting my spring cleaning off until
- 0:22Speaker 1: next year, but you're on No Dribble. Strap in! Music
- 0:32Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:38Speaker 1: talk about netball. We talk about so much more. My
- 0:40Speaker 1: name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm Kath Cox.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm Liz Ellis in my spring green today.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You are spring green. Someone's sporting a summer tan already
- 0:49Speaker 1: and I tell you, it stinks.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yes. I am very, very dark if you have a
- 0:56Speaker 2: look at this. Well, see, we're going to Bali tomorrow.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And you can't go all pasty, can you? So I've
- 1:02Speaker 2: done the double up. There's a couple of coats on.
- 1:05Speaker 2: The problem is now I want to marinate as much
- 1:08Speaker 2: as possible, but it means I've got a drop sheet, Liz,
- 1:11Speaker 2: because we've got our beautiful no dribble pink chairs. I've
- 1:14Speaker 2: got a towel underneath me.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So have you done that this morning?
- 1:18Speaker 2: I've done it this morning, yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Did you do it by yourself?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well, this is the thing, yes, because I can't
- 1:24Speaker 2: justify spending money on a spray tan when I have
- 1:27Speaker 2: all the tools at home and I've got a thousand
- 1:29Speaker 2: different tans. So I did it this morning, but what
- 1:32Speaker 2: I realised is when you're home alone, there's that top
- 1:36Speaker 2: little middle part of your back that's going to forever
- 1:40Speaker 2: be white because I could not, no matter how hard
- 1:43Speaker 2: I tried, reach it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Are we going to be doing that after recording today?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Well, I did. I was thinking about bringing it for
- 1:49Speaker 2: you but then you wouldn't be able to reach it either.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I can imagine Carolyn with like a little paint thing,
- 1:57Speaker 3: just painting the little white patches.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Well, there are plenty of little footstools in this house.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We have a number of steps in every room and
- 2:04Speaker 1: if my step gets moved, I'm enraged. It's like you're
- 2:07Speaker 1: welcome to use my step but put it back in
- 2:08Speaker 1: the kitchen when you're done with it. I need to
- 2:10Speaker 1: know where it is at any given time.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Is it for the kitchen mainly?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Kitchen one and there's also one in the, I don't
- 2:18Speaker 1: know what we call the room with the bookshelves, the library.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We don't call it that, but we should call it that. Yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so there's a couple of them. They shouldn't be moved around,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but they do. There's no respect, no respect given at all. But, yes,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you smell like a holiday.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry about that. I'm being very careful not to
- 2:36Speaker 2: put my arms down on the chairs and stuff at
- 2:39Speaker 2: the moment. I can't guarantee your toilet seat won't be
- 2:43Speaker 2: brown by the time I leave.
- 2:46Speaker 3: So do you anticipate being that tanned or will you
- 2:51Speaker 3: get a bit lighter?
- 2:52Speaker 2: Oh, no, that's the problem with this stuff. 95% of
- 2:55Speaker 2: it washes off. That's why I've gone hard early, as
- 2:57Speaker 2: you can see. You look like Warnie. There's a few
- 3:04Speaker 2: coats on me that will come off in about six hours.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I have no expertise. I've had two fake tans in
- 3:10Speaker 1: my life and I got professionals involved both times and
- 3:13Speaker 1: I felt ridiculous both times.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It's funny, isn't it? There's always a part to it.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Like I'm sitting here now and I can already tell
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm going to have white lines across my stomach where
- 3:21Speaker 2: my fat rolls are.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Sit up straight.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And you know the bit just under your bum as well?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Like I've had a few spray tans before and they
- 3:29Speaker 2: always tell you to bend over to get that little
- 3:31Speaker 2: bit under your butt so you don't get that white
- 3:33Speaker 2: line there. You don't know what I'm talking about, do you?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Well, of course I know the line under the bar.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm like, for God's sake, that's been part of my life.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But the tan one. I mean, it's not going to
- 3:41Speaker 2: be the best job, but it's better than the pastiness
- 3:43Speaker 2: I was before.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And what time do you fly out tomorrow?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Four o'clock.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I'll be having a champagne at the airport by two
- 3:50Speaker 2: if all goes to plan.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And if volcanoes stop erupting.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not great. Good luck with that. You might
- 3:59Speaker 1: get stuck over there.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Well, as long as I get stuck there and not here.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, though. Your tan makes you look 28.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Does it? Yeah, I think so. 28 or maybe 45.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's amazing how much better it does make you feel.
- 4:11Speaker 1: God, we had an amazing– in the group chat on
- 4:14Speaker 1: the weekend, we had an amazing chat about 28 and 45,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and I have been doing some research about these. So
- 4:21Speaker 1: we were talking about– What age, if you close your eyes,
- 4:25Speaker 1: what age do you think you are? And I said
- 4:27Speaker 1: I thought I was, I closed my eyes and I'm 39. Liz,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I think you said 28?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Or did you say 39 and I said 45?
- 4:36Speaker 2: I wouldn't have said 39. I would have said younger.
- 4:40Speaker 3: 25.
- 4:41Speaker 2: 25.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Well, 25, so there's now six stages. Demographers used to
- 4:47Speaker 1: say that there were four stages of life, child, teen,
- 4:51Speaker 1: adult and old. Now there's six. Child is zero to 12.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Adolescent or training adult is 13 to 28. Training adult.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So maybe that's why I was thinking that I'm 28
- 5:03Speaker 1: or 29 because I'm just on the cusp of adulthood.
- 5:05Speaker 1: An adult is now 29 to 45. There is a
- 5:09Speaker 1: lifestyle period that I'm in, 56 to 64. Retirement, 65
- 5:12Speaker 1: to 76, and old is now 77.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So....
- 5:20Speaker 1: I thought that was very interesting. So you are a
- 5:22Speaker 1: child until you are 28 now. That would let a
- 5:26Speaker 1: lot of people off the hook. But yes, both 28
- 5:30Speaker 1: and 45, I did promise that I would do some research.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We were all going to bring interesting facts. about 28
- 5:35Speaker 1: and 45 today. I think I am the winner. 28
- 5:38Speaker 1: and 45 are both triangular numbers. So you know when
- 5:42Speaker 1: you're setting up the pool table and you've got the
- 5:45Speaker 1: rack with the, how many balls are there? Nine, because
- 5:48Speaker 1: it's one and then two and then three and then four.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Both 28 and 45 are triangular numbers.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Numbers.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So you could, if you had a really big one,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you could do 28 balls in a perfect triangle, you
- 6:02Speaker 1: could do 45 balls in a perfect triangle. Not that
- 6:05Speaker 1: many numbers fit into that. That's impressive.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Good work.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah. So 28 is also a perfect number, which means,
- 6:12Speaker 1: of course, I don't need to explain this to you, Catherine,
- 6:15Speaker 1: but I will explain it to Liz. It's divisible by 1, 2, 4,
- 6:17Speaker 1: 7 and 14. And if you add all of those together,
- 6:22Speaker 1: they equal 28. So those are my 28. I've got
- 6:27Speaker 1: 28 and 45 interesting facts. So what did you bring?
- 6:32Speaker 2: Was this actually homework?
- 6:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 2: This is the first I'm hearing of it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Where was this?
- 6:36Speaker 2: On the group chat?
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, on the group chat.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Oh, did not see that. Or maybe I chose not
- 6:40Speaker 2: to see it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Oh, my God, it was the best group chat we've
- 6:43Speaker 1: ever had, I reckon.
- 6:44Speaker 2: On our no dribble.
- 6:45Speaker 1: On our no dribble group chat.
- 6:47Speaker 2: What?
- 6:47Speaker 1: Because I was talking about country code of Denmark is 45.
- 6:50Speaker 1: No country has 28. Yes, so we're talking about 28
- 6:54Speaker 1: and 45. Liz, I hope you brought something.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Guys, I've got nothing about that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: What do you mean you've got nothing?
- 6:59Speaker 2: On our group chat.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It's in the group chat.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Catherine, this is very much the dog ate my homework
- 7:05Speaker 3: sort of scenario.
- 7:06Speaker 2: No, but the good thing is I have proof that
- 7:09Speaker 2: the dog ate my homework.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm going to look at your settings. Liz, did you
- 7:13Speaker 1: do the homework? Have you got anything interesting?
- 7:15Speaker 3: I do. I've only got one little thing, but I
- 7:18Speaker 3: managed to make 28 and 45 to do some homework
- 7:21Speaker 3: to make it netball related, which doesn't always happen on
- 7:25Speaker 3: this podcast, but I've made it netball related. So the
- 7:30Speaker 3: Netball Australia Hall of Fame currently has 44 members of
- 7:36Speaker 3: the Hall of Fame and 27 athlete members. At the dinner,
- 7:41Speaker 3: which is in October, we will induct our 28th athlete
- 7:45Speaker 3: and the 45th member of the Hall of Fame overall.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Isn't that cool?
- 7:50Speaker 2: That's a very good one. How did you find that?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Well, I found that out. I did because I have
- 7:57Speaker 3: the best job that I get to do as chair
- 7:59Speaker 3: is to ring the people who we are inducting into
- 8:02Speaker 3: the Hall of Fame.
- 8:04Speaker 2: My phone hasn't rung.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Bugger. I know.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Or maybe your settings are wrong.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Your settings are wrong. Because the last person I have
- 8:12Speaker 3: to speak to to congratulate them is Catherine Cox. What?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Would that be Catherine Cox, Netball Australia Hall of Famer 2026?
- 8:20Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 8:22Speaker 3: She will be the 28th athlete and the 45th overall.
- 8:25Speaker 3: There's a 28 and 45 for you, Catherine.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Are you actually serious?
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'm tearing up.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I might tear up too. Congratulations. Oh, don't.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I'm seriously chewing up.
- 8:38Speaker 1: What?
- 8:42Speaker 3: So there you go. Thank you. Holy shit. Oh, dear.
- 8:49Speaker 3: So you know how you got your dinner invitation and
- 8:51Speaker 3: you told me you couldn't afford flights?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:53Speaker 3: We'll cover your flights.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I can't believe it. Holy crap.
- 9:00Speaker 1: There was no homework. This was all a set up. Oh,
- 9:04Speaker 1: my God.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Your setting's a Hall of Fame compliant.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Catherine Cox is going to be inducted into the Netball
- 9:10Speaker 1: Australia Hall of Fame on I think it's the 30th
- 9:13Speaker 1: of October.
- 9:14Speaker 3: It is.
- 9:14Speaker 1: This year down in Melbourne and so richly deserved. It
- 9:19Speaker 1: is a.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Okay, we've got a whole range of problems now because
- 9:22Speaker 2: now I'm going to have tans dribbling down my face.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Elizabeth.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah. There'll be two other athletes inducted, but I can't
- 9:33Speaker 3: tell you who they are. But you are an excellent company.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Thank you.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Far out.
- 9:39Speaker 2: That just hit me. I didn't expect to react that way.
- 9:43Speaker 2: That's crazy. That's amazing.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I'll make sure I have something positive and constructive to
- 9:49Speaker 2: say when it actually happens.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Well, there's nothing negative about what you're saying at the moment.
- 9:55Speaker 1: You're just you're just having a moment and it's, it's huge.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Oh, wow. Wow. That's exciting. I'm literally gobsmacked.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yay. So we'll be there to celebrate with you.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I might have to bring my mum down with me.
- 10:09Speaker 3: You absolutely should.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 2: That would be nice.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You must.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that would be great.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I will.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah. We'd love to have Francie there.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Oh, dear. Oh, my God, how good. I thought you
- 10:19Speaker 2: were taking the piss then for a minute.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Surprise. I just like watching your face do the cackle.
- 10:27Speaker 1: What? What are you talking about?
- 10:29Speaker 3: What?
- 10:30Speaker 1: We've not been on the phone all morning talking about
- 10:32Speaker 1: how do we do this and what we really wanted
- 10:34Speaker 1: to do was make you, like, super confused.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it doesn't generally take much, but that one
- 10:39Speaker 2: really had me going. Oh, wow. I'm still in shock.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It's lovely. Yeah. It's wonderful. Yay.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yay!
- 10:46Speaker 3: Hall of Famer. Yeah, out of all the netballers in
- 10:51Speaker 3: all the gin joints in all the world, There are
- 10:54Speaker 3: only 28 who will be in the Hall of Fame
- 10:57Speaker 3: and you'll be in.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Wow. Wow.
- 10:59Speaker 1: That's crazy. And so three will be inducted that night
- 11:01Speaker 1: and we will find out after that night who the
- 11:04Speaker 1: other two are.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yes, three will be inducted and one person will get
- 11:06Speaker 3: the service award for excellent service.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:09Speaker 2: When were you inducted?
- 11:10Speaker 3: It's an excellent question.
- 11:12Speaker 1: 2011, was it? I was looking at this stuff.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Oh, God, that's a while ago.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yes, because Evelyn was a baby.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Online.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Oh, wow. It was like I was still breastfeeding because
- 11:20Speaker 3: I had to get it dressed. Like if I accidentally
- 11:23Speaker 3: just leaked, it didn't really matter.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So 15 years ago.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I know, but I'm an old duck. You kept playing
- 11:29Speaker 3: for quite some time after I'd retired.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say, is there a criteria
- 11:33Speaker 2: about having to be retired for a certain amount of
- 11:36Speaker 2: time or is that something else am I thinking of?
- 11:39Speaker 3: Certainly the Sport Australia Hall of Fame there is criterion.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And I think with Netball Australia is too. And you've
- 11:45Speaker 3: just hit the limit of my knowledge because our History
- 11:48Speaker 3: and Traditions Committee are in charge of this subcommittee.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Yes. Oh, wow.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I think they were just waiting for me to be
- 11:55Speaker 3: chair so that I could congratulate you. That's what they
- 11:57Speaker 3: were waiting for.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Thank you, everyone. Wow, wow.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Well, should we just have a little break so you
- 12:03Speaker 1: can collect yourself and then we might come back and
- 12:05Speaker 1: talk about some more. Nipple.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Nipple.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Okay, so look, there is something that we need to
- 12:22Speaker 1: talk about. It is not what we want to see
- 12:25Speaker 1: coming out of our sport. Obviously, by now, probably everyone
- 12:29Speaker 1: is aware that Sarah Clough pled guilty to some common
- 12:33Speaker 1: assault charges. She has been, she's not received a sentence
- 12:38Speaker 1: for that, but she admitted to having used violence against
- 12:42Speaker 1: a bouncer when she had been drinking a few months ago.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So it's not what we want to be talking about,
- 12:47Speaker 1: but we obviously do have to be talking about it today.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And in having said that, thanks, Carolyn, I am going to,
- 12:54Speaker 3: given my role as chair of Netball Australia, there is
- 12:56Speaker 3: an integrity process that is in train. And in order
- 12:59Speaker 3: to maintain the integrity of that integrity process, I'm going
- 13:02Speaker 3: to step out literally of this conversation and I'll leave
- 13:05Speaker 3: it to you too. Thanks, guys.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So obviously we need to talk about this. I especially
- 13:10Speaker 1: need to talk about it after having gone so hard
- 13:13Speaker 1: the other day about violence in sport and with sports
- 13:18Speaker 1: people and Let me just say there is no excuse
- 13:22Speaker 1: for violence anywhere. So that is a full stop sentence.
- 13:26Speaker 1: That's where that goes. But I will say. that we
- 13:31Speaker 1: look at these things differently because it is not a
- 13:33Speaker 1: systemic issue for netball. If you Google this, if you
- 13:36Speaker 1: Google netballer alcohol assault, there's one entry that comes up.
- 13:41Speaker 1: If you Google NRL alcohol assault or AFL alcohol assault
- 13:47Speaker 1: or pretty much any other sport, you get pages and
- 13:51Speaker 1: pages and pages of examples of this. So clearly, Our
- 13:55Speaker 1: sport is needing to come to grips with something here.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Like there may be some processes that need to change.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I don't know. There is an integrity investigation that will
- 14:05Speaker 1: have to occur. There will be internal processes there. But
- 14:08Speaker 1: I think it is really important that we differentiate there.
- 14:13Speaker 1: between one incident and many, many, many years of examples
- 14:20Speaker 1: of this happening with the men's sports. And so, I
- 14:24Speaker 1: know the men with boats are going to get upset
- 14:26Speaker 1: with me, but this is, you know, What we are
- 14:29Speaker 1: looking at generally is there is higher incidence of violence
- 14:33Speaker 1: on men to women, and often women are fearful for
- 14:36Speaker 1: their life or for sexual assault. So there are huge
- 14:40Speaker 1: differences in these things, and the sports have been responding
- 14:43Speaker 1: to them differently. The men's sports have been responding to
- 14:45Speaker 1: them differently. So the NRL has probably the most stringent
- 14:51Speaker 1: in Australian sports here. And the reason I'm responding to
- 14:54Speaker 1: this is there's a number of people in our Facebook
- 14:56Speaker 1: group who are saying, well, she's got to be stood down.
- 15:00Speaker 1: This should be the end of her career. I'm not
- 15:05Speaker 1: involved in any integrity investigation with this. I am not
- 15:09Speaker 1: as convinced that it is that black and white because
- 15:11Speaker 1: it is not a systemic issue. So the NRL has
- 15:14Speaker 1: a No-fault stand-down where athletes get paid when they are
- 15:17Speaker 1: charged with an offence carrying a maximum court penalty of
- 15:20Speaker 1: 11 years or more. So the CEO has a discretion
- 15:24Speaker 1: to stand down a player if there has been violence
- 15:26Speaker 1: against a woman or child involved, but it's only when
- 15:30Speaker 1: they have been charged with an offence with a maximum
- 15:33Speaker 1: court penalty of 11 years or more. We are looking
- 15:37Speaker 1: at here an athlete who was charged with an offence
- 15:40Speaker 1: carrying a maximum of two years in prison. And the
- 15:45Speaker 1: Australian sister, under Australian law, an offender with no prior
- 15:48Speaker 1: criminal convictions has a 2% to 3% chance of jail
- 15:51Speaker 1: for a common assault charge. So there are a lot
- 15:54Speaker 1: of people coming out really hard saying her career should
- 15:57Speaker 1: be over. There's been some unfair advantage because she's an athlete.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I think those things are justifiably angry, but I think
- 16:07Speaker 1: they are somewhat misguided and a I think it's important
- 16:13Speaker 1: we have the discussion, but I think it's also important
- 16:15Speaker 1: that we point out the vast difference between female athletes,
- 16:19Speaker 1: professional athletes, and male professional athletes.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I was actually a little perplexed when I saw this
- 16:25Speaker 2: because there is absolutely no excuse for violence, as you say, 100%.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So Sarah Clough is in the wrong. I was shocked
- 16:32Speaker 2: that it was Sarah Clough. This is someone who is
- 16:35Speaker 2: one of the shyest people I have ever met. She
- 16:38Speaker 2: doesn't like winning player of the match because she doesn't
- 16:40Speaker 2: want to be interviewed. So It kind of shocked me
- 16:43Speaker 2: that it was her. But the other thing that's really
- 16:47Speaker 2: been of interest is around the timing of this. Sarah
- 16:50Speaker 2: Clow didn't play the weekend in question because of injury.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Because of injury.
- 16:56Speaker 2: But is out on the piss.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Yeah. And then we're not sure what Netball Australia knew
- 17:03Speaker 1: before she went to the Commonwealth Games. And I will say,
- 17:06Speaker 1: setting aside, you know, again, no excuse for violence, but
- 17:10Speaker 1: that's this has got a bit of a stench about
- 17:12Speaker 1: it to me, the timing of it. And so that's
- 17:15Speaker 1: something I will be reserving judgment, but I'm really interested
- 17:19Speaker 1: to know what comes out there. And I don't know,
- 17:24Speaker 1: you know, she is a young person. If I had
- 17:28Speaker 1: a young person in my life who was that same age,
- 17:32Speaker 1: who was in that same situation, I would not be
- 17:36Speaker 1: assuming that they– I would be encouraging them to be
- 17:38Speaker 1: seeking advice and I really hope that she was getting
- 17:41Speaker 1: good advice on what– because it does look like there's some–
- 17:44Speaker 1: there was some judgment issues there around who knew what when.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And as a Swifts fan going along, cheering my team
- 17:55Speaker 1: and watching them not doing that great last season. There
- 18:01Speaker 1: is a bit of a burn about this, but I
- 18:03Speaker 1: think that's very different to a massive systemic issue here.
- 18:09Speaker 1: So anyway, we will watch and we will watch with interest.
- 18:14Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I've got some actually some good netball news, so let's
- 18:17Speaker 1: get Liz back in here.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Oh, hang on.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Here she is.
- 18:20Speaker 1: She's back. Well, thank you, Liz. We didn't talk much
- 18:23Speaker 1: about you while you were away. No, in fact, we
- 18:26Speaker 1: didn't talk about you at all. But there is some
- 18:28Speaker 1: beautiful netball news that came out of the weekend, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: it is a shame when we see these big things
- 18:32Speaker 1: overshadow the many, many wonderful things that happen. The Murray
- 18:37Speaker 1: Little Shield occurred on the weekend. So this is the
- 18:40Speaker 1: All Ability Nationals, and they occurred in Melbourne this past weekend.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And big thanks to long-time dribbler Terry Ellison, who is
- 18:47Speaker 1: involved in the coaching of the New South Wales team,
- 18:49Speaker 1: who kept me up to speed on the excitement of
- 18:53Speaker 1: the weekend. Shall I give you a report?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Only if New South Wales won.
- 18:58Speaker 1: You might want to drop off the podcast.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Only if netball was the winner.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Netball was always the winner.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Netball was absolutely the winner. So the gold medal match
- 19:07Speaker 1: was between New South Wales and Victoria.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Oh!
- 19:10Speaker 1: Victoria won 25-19 and Terry said they were a well-drilled,
- 19:14Speaker 1: strong and fast team. The bronze medal match came, the
- 19:20Speaker 1: WA Swans were too strong for the South Australian Rubies
- 19:23Speaker 1: in that, but amazing. Apparently the whole comp is just
- 19:28Speaker 1: everyone cheering for everyone else and officials and players and
- 19:32Speaker 1: so much joy. There was a four-all draw between the
- 19:36Speaker 1: ACT Bluebells and the Northern Territory Dragonflies that was apparently
- 19:40Speaker 1: just a joyous occasion to behold and, yeah, a wonderful thing.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And particularly like to give a call out to the APTA.
- 19:50Speaker 1: family who made a donation. They lost their daughter Sheridan
- 19:54Speaker 1: last year and Sheridan loved her netball and so they
- 19:59Speaker 1: made a donation to the Confident Girls Foundation and the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Murray Little Shield and thank you very much to the
- 20:05Speaker 1: Apter family for That beautiful, beautiful gesture and in Sheridan's memory.
- 20:12Speaker 3: That's lovely. Thank you. Well done. I love the photos
- 20:16Speaker 3: out of the Murray Little Children. Oh, it's so good,
- 20:17Speaker 3: isn't it? You know, like I love Super Netball and
- 20:20Speaker 3: Diamonds photos and the athletes are so fierce and strong
- 20:24Speaker 3: and like it shows them at their best. And then...
- 20:29Speaker 3: The Murray Little photos are so different, but it also
- 20:32Speaker 3: shows the sport at its best as well. And it's
- 20:34Speaker 3: so joyous. Like the joy just comes through the screen,
- 20:37Speaker 3: doesn't it? It's fantastic. And I think I say this
- 20:39Speaker 3: every year, but we've got at Ballina, and I know that,
- 20:43Speaker 3: you know, at other associations I've been at, so I
- 20:45Speaker 3: played at Caringa and I played at Hawkesbury. There was
- 20:48Speaker 3: always an AWD, an Athletes with Disabilities team, who was
- 20:52Speaker 3: in one of the divisions. And so the team that
- 20:55Speaker 3: I coach plays against them. And it's just... the most
- 21:00Speaker 3: beautiful part of your round. Like you're not playing for points.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You're not playing to try and win. You're trying, you're
- 21:04Speaker 3: playing to try and bring the opposition into the game
- 21:07Speaker 3: and to give them a good Saturday afternoon. And like
- 21:11Speaker 3: I coach 15 year old girls, they spend so much
- 21:13Speaker 3: time being really very cool until they play these games.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And then they walk off with the biggest screams on
- 21:19Speaker 3: their face. They're like, oh, that's fun. And you go, yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 3: that's right. And it's such a good thing. Like I
- 21:23Speaker 3: think our athletes, our kids get as much out of
- 21:25Speaker 3: it as the AWD kids that we play against, which
- 21:28Speaker 3: is just so valuable. It's fantastic.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Well, I've asked Terri if I can be part of
- 21:33Speaker 1: her coaching team next year. She's politely agreed. Oh, yay!
- 21:38Speaker 3: Terri, Terri, Terri, if you don't want Carolyn there, maybe
- 21:41Speaker 3: just DM Catherine or me and we'll talk about it.
- 21:43Speaker 3: But if you're okay with that, then that's cool too.
- 21:46Speaker 2: She said yes under duress.
- 21:47Speaker 1: So for dribblers who don't know, I am the highest,
- 21:50Speaker 1: currently the highest accreditation holding coach in this netball chat.
- 21:55Speaker 3: That is true.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I'm intermediate oh I know my team oh my god
- 22:00Speaker 2: speaking of coaching I think I I think I was
- 22:02Speaker 2: the problem on Friday night we so my little team
- 22:06Speaker 2: played semis or prelims whatever we call it the first
- 22:10Speaker 2: week of the the finals and we had beaten this
- 22:13Speaker 2: team twice before throughout the season so we were feeling
- 22:16Speaker 2: pretty confident game started really well yeah half time we
- 22:20Speaker 2: would have been up by a couple But I cannot
- 22:24Speaker 2: leave a player on the sidelines. I had an injured
- 22:27Speaker 2: player that couldn't play with a broken arm. I had
- 22:30Speaker 2: another player on the sidelines. And I just thought, do
- 22:33Speaker 2: you know what? This is going well, yes, but I'm
- 22:35Speaker 2: not leaving her on the side. Good.
- 22:37Speaker 1: They're 10. They're 10.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Excellent coaching.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And people before the game were saying, oh, I reckon
- 22:42Speaker 2: we've got to go for the win. I just can't
- 22:44Speaker 2: do it. There's no way in the world I'm leaving
- 22:46Speaker 2: a kid on the side not getting involved. So they
- 22:49Speaker 2: didn't play as well when the change made. I made
- 22:51Speaker 2: some more changes in the final quarter. We lost the game.
- 22:54Speaker 2: But do you know what? I so don't care.
- 22:56Speaker 1: No.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And I even said to them before the game, I
- 22:58Speaker 2: don't care the result of this game. If we lose,
- 23:01Speaker 2: we lose. I care about you not trying. I care
- 23:03Speaker 2: about you not having fun. That's what it is about.
- 23:05Speaker 2: There is no pressure on you. Let's just go out
- 23:07Speaker 2: there and do that. You could see they were upset,
- 23:10Speaker 2: but I was like, I'll take ownership of that one.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I'm not leaving a kid on the sideline.
- 23:13Speaker 1: But also, two minutes later, they would have been over being.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Upset, right?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Oh, they would.
- 23:16Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 23:17Speaker 2: One second later, as soon as someone brought out the lollipop,
- 23:19Speaker 2: they'd have skipped off and beside themselves.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I 100% endorse what you did there. I think that,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, there's no, you know, once they start to
- 23:29Speaker 1: get to reps and stuff, when they're playing reps, I
- 23:31Speaker 1: understand that it's a different equation in the rep games. But, like,
- 23:36Speaker 1: you know, club games, it's meant to be about fun
- 23:39Speaker 1: and They're 10.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah. So, yes, it was disappointing, but it means
- 23:44Speaker 2: there's no training now.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Oh, that's good.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Which is fortunate, given the look at me.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Well, Catherine, that is excellent coaching. Similarly, my under-15s team,
- 23:55Speaker 3: we're now playing under-16s cadet, but mainly we're 15. We
- 24:00Speaker 3: won our semifinal on the weekend, and this is the
- 24:02Speaker 3: team that last year won our grand final. And last
- 24:04Speaker 3: year we trained every week. I was really hard on them.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And this year I was like, no, we won the
- 24:09Speaker 3: grand final. No training because we've got kids who play
- 24:12Speaker 3: basketball and have got lots of other things on. So
- 24:15Speaker 3: I said, no training. We'll just turn up. Saturdays are fun.
- 24:19Speaker 3: We're back in the grand final next week. We won
- 24:21Speaker 3: the semi-final. And I said, okay, who wants to train
- 24:23Speaker 3: this week? And they all looked at me and they
- 24:24Speaker 3: were like, no. I was like, okay, see you Saturday.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I love that. Yeah, I like that too. Not everything
- 24:31Speaker 1: is the World Cup. In fact, only the World Cup
- 24:33Speaker 1: is the World Cup.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Exactly. Yes. All good luck though.
- 24:37Speaker 2: That's exciting.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Coaching like a bloody hall of famer there, Catherine. So
- 24:42Speaker 1: at least it's coaching like someone who's been in the
- 24:45Speaker 1: hall of fame a while and a bit more.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Does she think the kids are catching it by osmosis
- 24:50Speaker 2: or something?
- 24:51Speaker 3: I don't know, but it is funny, isn't it? Like
- 24:55Speaker 3: this year I've just, I've been so relaxed and the
- 24:59Speaker 3: kids have been relaxed. They're playing with the smile on
- 25:00Speaker 3: their face and But, and Catherine, I think, I think
- 25:03Speaker 3: your move to play everybody is correct. Like last year
- 25:05Speaker 3: in the under 14s grand final. And I made the
- 25:08Speaker 3: decision at the start of the year that it should
- 25:09Speaker 3: be made the grand final. Everyone plays. And everyone played
- 25:12Speaker 3: in the grand final and, and we won and everyone
- 25:15Speaker 3: felt good about it. I would much rather that. Like
- 25:18Speaker 3: you said, Carolyn, in the, in reps, in the world cup, yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 3: not everybody gets a turn, but when you're playing club
- 25:23Speaker 3: and everyone's got you there. And for some of, like
- 25:26Speaker 3: in our team, the girls who are the rep players
- 25:29Speaker 3: and that sort of stuff, some of them are rep
- 25:30Speaker 3: basketballers as well. So they can't be there every week.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And it's the kids who aren't rec players who turn
- 25:35Speaker 3: up week in, week out. They're the ones who get
- 25:37Speaker 3: us there. They're the ones who are going to get
- 25:39Speaker 3: us home.
- 25:40Speaker 2: The thing is, on the Monday training, I actually pulled
- 25:42Speaker 2: them in. I said, I want to know how you
- 25:45Speaker 2: want to play this. Are we going for the win?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Is that the single focus here? If that's the case,
- 25:50Speaker 2: some people might not take to the court. Are we
- 25:53Speaker 2: all happy with that? And they all agreed to that plan.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I was the one that broke it because I just
- 25:58Speaker 2: couldn't cope with it.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Oh, so they're all agreed with that we're going to
- 26:02Speaker 3: win at all costs.
- 26:02Speaker 2: But I think they all say that thinking that they're
- 26:05Speaker 2: going to be the one on the court too, right?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Like is that person speaking up that thinks they're going
- 26:10Speaker 2: to be on the sideline? It was me that broke.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I just thought I just can't do it. And you've
- 26:13Speaker 2: got your whole life to be under pressure and– To
- 26:16Speaker 2: be fighting for stuff right now, let's just have fun
- 26:19Speaker 2: and I'll take this one.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I'll never trust you again, but well done.
- 26:22Speaker 1: That's right. There's a trust issue there. But we had
- 26:26Speaker 1: a conversation last week, Kath. I meant to talk about it.
- 26:29Speaker 1: You didn't start shooting until you were 16. Yeah. You
- 26:32Speaker 1: were a defender before then. That's amazing, isn't it?
- 26:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And, you know, we had that great conversation in last
- 26:38Speaker 1: week's Friday's episode about– you know, one particular association with
- 26:44Speaker 1: some quite onerous requirements for rep and whatever, at 12.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And it's like, you know, one of the greatest shooters
- 26:51Speaker 1: the game has ever known and you didn't even start
- 26:53Speaker 1: it until you were 16 years old. It's like just chill.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Everyone chill.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but how many times do we hear that? Like
- 27:00Speaker 2: Rebecca Sanders didn't debut for Australia until she was 23
- 27:02Speaker 2: or 24. You don't have to be the best right now.
- 27:08Speaker 2: You're not going to get overlooked, particularly if you're a
- 27:11Speaker 2: Sydney kid or you're in a big city. There's opportunities everywhere.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Everyone just calm down and enjoy the ride. Don't burn
- 27:19Speaker 2: your kids out. Let them enjoy it. Let them enjoy
- 27:22Speaker 2: all sorts of things because ultimately it's making them better
- 27:24Speaker 2: at whatever it is they decide to settle on.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. Yes, yes. My son went to regional athletics today
- 27:32Speaker 3: for discus and thankfully it wasn't that far away. Are
- 27:34Speaker 3: you serious? Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Just add another one.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Oh, no, it's for school, right? Anyway, I turned up
- 27:40Speaker 3: and I ran into the school principal and he goes,
- 27:42Speaker 3: I hear you were dissing book week. And I'm like, no,
- 27:44Speaker 3: I don't need you to be listening to my podcast.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Anyway, it turns out they are having book week next week.
- 27:52Speaker 3: So I must have got the message mixed up. And
- 27:53Speaker 3: I said, oh, look, Austin's going to come as a
- 27:55Speaker 3: soccer player. And he said, they all do. I said,
- 27:56Speaker 3: good chats. Thanks. Have a good day. But we got
- 27:59Speaker 3: the car the way home and Austin came middle of
- 28:01Speaker 3: the field. And I said, are you disappointed? He goes, no,
- 28:04Speaker 3: not really. I said, that's good because you didn't do
- 28:06Speaker 3: any practice, even though you do, in fact, own a
- 28:07Speaker 3: discus and live on a farm. So there's heaps of room.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And it turned out the only thing he cares about
- 28:12Speaker 3: is where the good milkshake shops are. So this was
- 28:14Speaker 3: today at a place where there's a good bakery. He
- 28:17Speaker 3: was like, oh, I can get a good milkshake and
- 28:18Speaker 3: a sausage roll, so that's why I wanted to come. But, yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 3: that's a good attitude.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Oh, it's a great attitude. I would Google where the
- 28:24Speaker 2: best coffee is no matter where I am. How does
- 28:27Speaker 2: he know this is a good milkshake in the bakery?
- 28:30Speaker 2: Is he on the Googles as well?
- 28:32Speaker 3: No, because his father took him there one time. They
- 28:34Speaker 3: do things without my knowledge and consent all the time.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Love it. He's across all the good stuff. Poor Liz.
- 28:41Speaker 1: We should move on from this though. It's obviously very
- 28:44Speaker 1: painful for her when her husband does the sports run
- 28:47Speaker 1: and she doesn't have to be there. Okay, we'll have
- 28:49Speaker 1: a little break, come back, and there's some other stuff
- 28:52Speaker 1: that's happened in the netball world and surrounds that we
- 28:55Speaker 1: need to be talking about.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Survivor.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Are you ready?
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 29:13Speaker 2: How bloody exciting.
- 29:15Speaker 1: How good.
- 29:16Speaker 2: And do you know how long I have thought about
- 29:19Speaker 2: Sharni Leighton or Sharni Norder, whatever she is at the minute,
- 29:23Speaker 2: doing a reality TV show? Because she's such a big personality.
- 29:27Speaker 2: She's made for it. I can't believe it took this long.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Kerry Podmast is also in it, I saw. Yep.
- 29:34Speaker 3: So they've got Olympians. Who I was in the jungle
- 29:36Speaker 3: with for the I'm a Celebrity. So he put it
- 29:38Speaker 3: on our rice and beans. chat from the jungle last night. Who, who, who?
- 29:42Speaker 3: Adam Cooney.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Oh, is he?
- 29:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so he was in the jungle with us and
- 29:46Speaker 3: he was fantastic. He's such good value. So he's going into,
- 29:50Speaker 3: he's done Survivor as well. He put on our group
- 29:52Speaker 3: chat last night. And then when I saw Shani this morning,
- 29:54Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, my God, two of my faves in
- 29:56Speaker 3: the one show. I'll be glued to it.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I will be too. But it doesn't start until 27.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I know. I saw the ad today. That's too long.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Anyway, I'm an idiot and show that I really don't,
- 30:06Speaker 3: I'm not very up to speed on my reality TV shows.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I said to Adam, so when can we vote? He's like,
- 30:12Speaker 3: you don't vote in Survivor.
- 30:13Speaker 1: No, it's a shame you don't vote because they have
- 30:16Speaker 1: to have some reality shows where the netball community can't
- 30:20Speaker 1: vote because it's an unfair advantage because we actually care
- 30:23Speaker 1: about our people. Hey, what reality show would you do?
- 30:26Speaker 1: What would you?
- 30:27Speaker 2: Well, I think we've had this show before, haven't we?
- 30:29Speaker 2: I've been asked to do SAS a few times.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Hell no.
- 30:33Speaker 2: No.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Really?
- 30:34Speaker 3: Oh, God, no one.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Needs to see me crying on television.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Jamie Lee Price should do SAS.
- 30:39Speaker 2: There's so many netballers that would be good at SAS.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Kate Maloney.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Sharni would be good at it. Oh, my God, Kate
- 30:45Speaker 2: would be amazing.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Can you imagine? Yeah.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Oh, she'd be hard to break.
- 30:49Speaker 3: What would you do, Carolyn? Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 2: What would you do out of all of them?
- 30:53Speaker 1: I'd do Dancing with the Stars.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Oh, would you?
- 30:55Speaker 1: Would you?
- 30:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I think that would be so fun, so fun to learn.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I'd like to do Survivor, but I just– I've got–
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm a bit thin-skinned, so it's like I probably– what.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Do you mean? Why would you vote for me?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Well, we know what you do and
- 31:14Speaker 2: do well, Elizabeth. I've actually hit Gordie up about coming
- 31:18Speaker 2: on the block with me.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Oh, that'd be cool. I've been asked to do Dancing
- 31:22Speaker 3: with the Stars, but my answer is there's not enough
- 31:25Speaker 3: alcohol in the world to make me dance on television.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Giraffes on ice skates are not that good.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Actually, I'd like to do Nailed It. Have you ever
- 31:31Speaker 1: seen Nailed It? So it's a great one out of
- 31:35Speaker 1: the US and they get– and it's– Oh, the cooking show?
- 31:38Speaker 1: The cooking show.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Oh, that would be great.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And they get a cake and they say, now you
- 31:42Speaker 1: have to make a cake like that and people have
- 31:43Speaker 1: got three hours and it's always hopeless. It's always hopeless
- 31:47Speaker 1: and it looks so fun. We could do a no
- 31:50Speaker 1: dribble nailed it. That would be fun.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Oh, we could. That would be so much fun.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Liz and I have done Celebrity, ooh, what was it called?
- 31:58Speaker 2: What was it with Grant Denya?
- 31:59Speaker 3: What was that called? That was fun. Is it Celebrity
- 32:02Speaker 3: Name Game or something? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We did that.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I've also been on Family Feud. We did Annette Buller's
- 32:07Speaker 2: Family Feud. That was great fun as well.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And then we did a cooking one.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Yes, that was Ready Steady Cook or some other.
- 32:14Speaker 3: With Polenta.
- 32:15Speaker 2: With the Channel 9 thing happening, if we all get
- 32:19Speaker 2: jobs there, I'm desperate to go on Tipping Point. I
- 32:21Speaker 2: love that show.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Catherine, I keep saying you need to go on Maths.
- 32:27Speaker 2: No, not a chance in the world. Nup. Can you imagine?
- 32:31Speaker 2: I'd go on The Bachelorette.
- 32:35Speaker 1: And you'd be the bachelor.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Correct.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Not the bachelor. You'd be the golden bachelorette now, though.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Oh, dear.
- 32:43Speaker 1: But, you know, at least you'd end up with blokes
- 32:45Speaker 1: with jobs, right? What's the difference? You're golden.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Is it over 50?
- 32:49Speaker 1: Well, I don't know that they have a specific age
- 32:53Speaker 1: for it.
- 32:53Speaker 3: No, you're right.
- 32:54Speaker 2: It's normally in the 30s or something.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not 25, I'm sorry.
- 32:57Speaker 2: No, I keep forgetting.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Not even 28, although you might be 28th.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Are you 28th?
- 33:02Speaker 1: Athlete to be in the netball australia hall of fame
- 33:05Speaker 1: um oh yeah that was that i i was very
- 33:08Speaker 1: excited to see that and i look forward to watching
- 33:11Speaker 1: there was a lot of good talk about that do
- 33:12Speaker 1: you remember some weeks ago and i'm madly scrambling looking
- 33:15Speaker 1: for my phone here but we had a someone was
- 33:17Speaker 1: asking if um netball goes into the olympics how does
- 33:21Speaker 1: it work with great britain and how do they all
- 33:24Speaker 1: participate and if i could find my phone i could
- 33:27Speaker 1: explain it to you because we have a lovely dribbler
- 33:30Speaker 1: sarah Sarah Gandon from the UK. Where is my phone?
- 33:33Speaker 3: Well, why don't you look for your phone? And I'm
- 33:35Speaker 3: going to give you guys an update because I know
- 33:37Speaker 3: you haven't slept since last week about my credit card
- 33:40Speaker 3: and the wand.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Oh, stop it.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I thought you were giving us an Olympic update.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Oh, no, I've got nothing yet.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Oh, God, okay.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I am as intrigued about the wand, though. That happened
- 33:53Speaker 3: in real time last week when I thought the last
- 33:55Speaker 3: time I saw my wand with the credit card in
- 33:57Speaker 3: it was in my car. And I started to think, oh,
- 34:00Speaker 3: my God, there's so many places you can lose one
- 34:03Speaker 3: of those things in like a big woofer Land Cruiser,
- 34:06Speaker 3: which is what I had. And anyway, we had a
- 34:09Speaker 3: spring clean of the garage on the weekend. And you
- 34:12Speaker 3: know where I found my wand and my credit card?
- 34:14Speaker 1: Where?
- 34:16Speaker 3: In my son's cricket bag. So I don't know what
- 34:18Speaker 3: he's been doing with it. Oh, my God. If there's
- 34:22Speaker 3: a 10-year-old boy who's happy to dance down the street
- 34:24Speaker 3: with a pink wand, I'm like, you go for your life, mate. Anyway,
- 34:26Speaker 3: he reckons he didn't buy anything with it.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I reckon there's a stack of milkshakes on there by
- 34:31Speaker 2: the sound of it.
- 34:32Speaker 3: I do. And it's a debit card, so I wouldn't
- 34:34Speaker 3: have noticed. I'm just a bit hopeless. Anyway, there you go. Oh,
- 34:37Speaker 3: that's good.
- 34:38Speaker 1: It wasn't in the car. I lost an American Express
- 34:41Speaker 1: card and the last person to use it was my son.
- 34:45Speaker 1: And so we've had him searching for weeks. It's like
- 34:48Speaker 1: there's no charges going on there. I had a close
- 34:51Speaker 1: eye on it. It's like, all right, this will show up.
- 34:52Speaker 1: It'll be in the house somewhere. I ended up cancelling
- 34:55Speaker 1: the bloody thing. They got me a card the next day.
- 34:57Speaker 1: So remember those ads in the 70s from American Express
- 35:00Speaker 1: when it's like, oh, what kind were they, Traveller's Checks?
- 35:02Speaker 1: And they had them there the next day. Well, I
- 35:04Speaker 1: got my new American Express card the very next day and,
- 35:08Speaker 1: of course, we found it on the weekend just gone
- 35:11Speaker 1: on a couch where my son was playing, a recliner
- 35:14Speaker 1: couch where he was playing on the Xbox and he
- 35:16Speaker 1: left it in the reclined position and And I swore
- 35:19Speaker 1: and went over to put it back and then it's like,
- 35:21Speaker 1: there's my credit card. So it's fallen out of the
- 35:24Speaker 1: back of his pants at some stage. And because he's
- 35:26Speaker 1: been studying, he hasn't been gaming at all. So it's
- 35:29Speaker 1: like the couch hasn't been in use. But, again, a
- 35:33Speaker 1: happy story.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Because it's just the annoying thing is having to reset
- 35:36Speaker 2: and give you a new card number to everything to
- 35:39Speaker 2: wreck debits.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So annoying. All right, I found it. So this is
- 35:42Speaker 1: Sarah Gandon who has come from the UK. It's still
- 35:46Speaker 1: in the UK. Just listening to your episode where you
- 35:48Speaker 1: ask about what the UK teams would do if we
- 35:50Speaker 1: got netball into the Olympics. I was the team manager
- 35:53Speaker 1: when we took a Great Britain team to the first
- 35:56Speaker 1: World University Championships. We had selectors from Wales, Scotland and
- 36:01Speaker 1: England and the head selector was the Welsh head coach.
- 36:04Speaker 1: We had trialists from all three of those countries. Our
- 36:06Speaker 1: head coach was English. Assistant coach was Scottish. I'm Scottish.
- 36:10Speaker 1: She was the team manager. Our physio was English. All
- 36:12Speaker 1: players were English in the end. Dodgy. But the Northern
- 36:16Speaker 1: Irish players entered as an all-Ireland team. They had their
- 36:20Speaker 1: Northern Ireland unis, head coach, staff, and I think they
- 36:23Speaker 1: were all from Northern Ireland. Anyway, Sarah's team, Team GB,
- 36:28Speaker 1: did win gold, beating South Australia in a final that
- 36:30Speaker 1: went to extra time, and some of their players went
- 36:34Speaker 1: on to win the gold in the Gold Coast, Nat Medcalf,
- 36:37Speaker 1: Beth Cobden, Jodie Gibson, Kadeen Corbin. It was a shame
- 36:40Speaker 1: Australia and New Zealand didn't send teams. It was a
- 36:42Speaker 1: great comp in Cape Town.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Beat South Africa or beat South Australia?
- 36:46Speaker 1: South Africa. Did I say South Australia?
- 36:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fine.
- 36:48Speaker 1: You know what I also said last week when I
- 36:50Speaker 1: was talking about all of the players that, you know,
- 36:52Speaker 1: how many gold medal New Zealand players are going to
- 36:55Speaker 1: be in Super Netball, how many silver medal Jamaican players.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And then I went, and how many gold medal winning
- 37:00Speaker 1: Australian players?
- 37:01Speaker 3: And it's like.
- 37:02Speaker 1: There were no gold medal winning Australian players. I'm sorry.
- 37:04Speaker 1: That was a complete wishful thinking slip of the tongue.
- 37:09Speaker 1: But I did get that wrong. And no one came
- 37:12Speaker 1: at me, which I thought was really nice. We're all
- 37:14Speaker 1: in denial. Maybe no one's paying attention to what I say.
- 37:18Speaker 1: That's about all we've got time for. I'm in Canberra
- 37:21Speaker 1: this Saturday night at the Canberra Theatre as part of
- 37:23Speaker 1: the Sydney Comedy Festival, so Canberra dribblers, come and see me.
- 37:27Speaker 1: And don't forget to buy your tickets for our Constellation
- 37:30Speaker 1: Cup event.
- 37:32Speaker 2: We have one special guest coming, confirmed, maybe two, and
- 37:37Speaker 2: they will blow your mind.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Blow your mind. It's very exciting. I wish we could
- 37:41Speaker 1: talk about it, but we can't. But I've also, I
- 37:44Speaker 1: said to Paige, are you coming, Paige Hadley? And she said,
- 37:47Speaker 1: are you going to invite me? I said, of course
- 37:48Speaker 1: I'm going to bloody invite you. So maybe we'll have Paige.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So that is because she said she would but, you.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Know, that was unfair.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But we have some unnamed extra special guests.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Well, I can probably name one of them. She did
- 38:01Speaker 2: say she's coming.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah, name her and then she can't pull out. Yeah, yeah, 100%.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yes. Briony Akel.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Briony Akel. Assistant coach of the Silver Ferns.
- 38:11Speaker 3: I know.
- 38:12Speaker 2: She's coming to join us. Great call, Liz Ellis, because
- 38:14Speaker 2: she can't now. Yeah.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so she'll be there with us. So that is
- 38:19Speaker 1: on the 24th of October. Get your tickets through our website, nodribble.com.au.
- 38:23Speaker 1: That is all we have time for on this Hall
- 38:27Speaker 1: of Fame episode, my favourite episode I think of all
- 38:32Speaker 1: time actually.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Because I went mute?
- 38:34Speaker 1: No, because it's really special to be involved in this.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Being here when you found out this news, you're well deserved.
- 38:42Speaker 1: And thanks to Netball Australia for letting us be involved
- 38:45Speaker 1: in sharing this news. This is the podcast with all
- 38:48Speaker 1: the goss lately, right? Yeah. I mean, only confirmed gossip.
- 38:53Speaker 1: We don't actually gossip gossip. But anyway, that's all we've
- 38:56Speaker 1: got time for. We will be back on Friday with
- 38:58Speaker 1: another episode. Thanks for joining us. My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I'm Hall of Famer Kath Cox.
- 39:06Speaker 3: And I'm Kat's friend.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Also a Hall of Famer and I'm not.
- 39:12Speaker 3: But anyway, see you. We'll find you a little Hall
- 39:15Speaker 3: of Fame. Bye.
- 39:15Speaker 2: We can.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Love it. Bye.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Bye. Bye.
