- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gaddigal Land Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hey Ticks, I'm Al and I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: sal and this is.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Two broake chicks to show that shares the life lessons
- 0:16Speaker 2: and kids to be rich. We're here to share our
- 0:22Speaker 2: Broke Chicks Guide to euro long awaited. Oh my gosh,
- 0:27Speaker 2: our dams have been flooded with you chicks asking all
- 0:30Speaker 2: of your questions about our Europe trip and begging for
- 0:33Speaker 2: this episode, and we're so happy to finally give it
- 0:36Speaker 2: to you. M Mmm, the highs and the lows and
- 0:39Speaker 2: the high school football and Europe, the saves, the splurges
- 0:43Speaker 2: and the things that TikTok lied to us about. Yeah, definitely,
- 0:46Speaker 2: And we asked you chicks also to send in your
- 0:49Speaker 2: questions so as well as the ones that you've been
- 0:51Speaker 2: sliding into our dms with, we're also going to be
- 0:54Speaker 2: covering a lot of the questions and topics that you
- 0:57Speaker 2: chicks requested for our Europe episode. But before we start
- 1:00Speaker 2: every episode, we talk about what we're obsessed with, so sour,
- 1:05Speaker 2: cue the music.
- 1:06Speaker 1: These are my obsessions.
- 1:12Speaker 2: We're getting so good at that, I know we sound great.
- 1:15Speaker 2: My obsession this week is actually something that we were
- 1:17Speaker 2: obsessed with when we were in Europe, the show My
- 1:21Speaker 2: Lady Jane, which is the best show I have watched
- 1:27Speaker 2: in so so long. It's like a feminist, revisionist interpretation
- 1:33Speaker 2: of Lady Jane of like the Tutors period. And if
- 1:38Speaker 2: you like Bridgiton or the Tutors, you.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Will love this show. You're a book top earlyer, this
- 1:44Speaker 1: show is for you.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 3: It's enemies to lovers, sword fighting in all.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Essences of the word, and it is just so camp.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so funny. It's so funny.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And also the sound is like exclusively female covers of
- 2:04Speaker 2: classic rock songs.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And it's so so good.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I am really sad to say that this was the
- 2:11Speaker 2: first season, and I believe it's gonna be the last
- 2:14Speaker 2: season because it has been canceled. It hasn't been renewed
- 2:17Speaker 2: for a second season, which we're so upset about. And
- 2:20Speaker 2: I usually wouldn't recommend a show that's like that because
- 2:22Speaker 2: it's just like edging you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But this show is so so good. It's on Prime,
- 2:28Speaker 1: Please go watch it. What's your obsession?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna go on the same same tangent as you.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Oh okay, and I've recently started watching for the first
- 2:37Speaker 3: time ever, Crimy Minds.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yes, Criminal Minds. I love this show.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It's exclusively cooled in our house. Quimmy Minds, Oh, Quemy, Matt.
- 2:46Speaker 3: You know, I do appreciate TV shows as they come
- 2:48Speaker 3: out now, especially original ones, but I do really miss
- 2:51Speaker 3: the twenty one episode seasons and forty minute episodes like
- 2:55Speaker 3: Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Cremy Minds, and so I'm sure
- 2:59Speaker 3: a lot of people have already watched Criminal Minds, but.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with it. And yeah, every night me and
- 3:06Speaker 1: Crimy Minds. Okay, shall we get into the a. All right,
- 3:13Speaker 1: we're on a plane. We've got excitement in the air.
- 3:18Speaker 2: The fake Jane's fresh, the face mask is on, the
- 3:21Speaker 2: nails have freshly been done that morning, because I left
- 3:23Speaker 2: it to you last minute, and I walked in at
- 3:25Speaker 2: nine thirty.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I said, can you do this? In thirty minutes? I
- 3:28Speaker 1: got a plan to catch were.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Our way our first trip to Europe.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I know we said this.
- 3:35Speaker 2: We genuinely never thought that we would go to Europe
- 3:38Speaker 2: in our life, and the fact.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That we did.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I cried at the airport because I was like, who's
- 3:44Speaker 2: calling me?
- 3:45Speaker 1: It was I don't know what.
- 3:47Speaker 3: It is, but I never think the holiday is happening
- 3:50Speaker 3: until literally I'm on the plane.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It doesn't like, it doesn't matter how much I plan
- 3:54Speaker 2: or book or pain in advance, it doesn't feel like
- 3:56Speaker 2: it's actually happening until I'm on the plane and I'm like,
- 3:59Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, I feel the same way. I think
- 4:01Speaker 2: it's maybe as well because like, I didn't travel at
- 4:05Speaker 2: all until I was twenty one, and still very fortunate
- 4:08Speaker 2: to have even done that, but I feel like it
- 4:11Speaker 2: just still always feels so surreal. It was amazing. So
- 4:14Speaker 2: we started in Italia.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And we went to Rome and then we went to
- 4:19Speaker 3: sestri Levante.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We loved Italy. Italy was probably my favorite place that
- 4:26Speaker 1: we went, and Rome was just the most beautiful place ever.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And then sestri Levante is like north in Italy and
- 4:37Speaker 3: it is just a little bit above the Chincoteta and
- 4:42Speaker 3: it was really quiet. It was I felt like we
- 4:44Speaker 3: truly got the Italy experience. And we also went with
- 4:48Speaker 3: our friend Mattie McCrae that my partner. It was like
- 4:51Speaker 3: the four of us and it was just the best.
- 4:54Speaker 3: It was a dram and then Maddie and Rob.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Headed home and it was a sell and Alex stravagant
- 5:00Speaker 1: and so where.
- 5:00Speaker 2: We went to Grease Baby, and we started off in Athens.
- 5:08Speaker 2: We were only there for two nights. We did the
- 5:12Speaker 2: acropolis there amazing.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It was hot.
- 5:16Speaker 2: In our experience, I would say that like one to
- 5:19Speaker 2: two days in Athens is more than enough, especially in
- 5:22Speaker 2: the middle of summer.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It was very, very hot.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And then we went to Eos, and then we went
- 5:28Speaker 2: to Paros, and then we did plan to have two
- 5:32Speaker 2: nights in Mikonos, I think, and then we love Paros
- 5:37Speaker 2: so much we were like, let's see if we can
- 5:40Speaker 2: change this without having to pay any fees. And we
- 5:45Speaker 2: were able to change our accommodation and stuff and not
- 5:47Speaker 2: pay any cancelation fees, and we decided to extend our
- 5:50Speaker 2: stay in Paris.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It ended up working out. Yeah, it was amazing. And
- 5:54Speaker 1: then from Greece we went to London, London Baby.
- 5:59Speaker 2: We spent about a week there and we did a
- 6:02Speaker 2: little bit of work, a little bit of play, recorded
- 6:05Speaker 2: a few episodes of the pod, run into Gem Diamond,
- 6:08Speaker 2: friend of the show, Friend of the show, and.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Our producer Rush was also there. That is fun. Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it was so so fabulous.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I love just like exploring with your friends in a
- 6:20Speaker 2: different city.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You're like, Ariana, what are you doing here? That was
- 6:25Speaker 1: like truly what our entire euro trip felt like.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It was like we had friends in every city of
- 6:29Speaker 2: like other people bar crawl that you don't have to
- 6:32Speaker 2: go on like a full holiday with your friends. You
- 6:35Speaker 2: can have different itineraries, but if you can line stuff up,
- 6:38Speaker 2: even if it's like a little bit of effort, it's
- 6:40Speaker 2: just so good because you've got like so many things
- 6:43Speaker 2: to be excited for that it's not just about the place,
- 6:45Speaker 2: but it's about the people that you spend it with.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that was so than to be I love it
- 6:50Speaker 1: and I stand by it. So that took us about
- 6:52Speaker 1: four weeks. Yeah, so we're in Europe for around four
- 6:56Speaker 1: weeks total.
- 6:57Speaker 2: A little over a week in Italy, a little over
- 6:59Speaker 2: a week in Greece, ten days in Greece, Yeah, ten
- 7:02Speaker 2: days in Greece, and then about a week in London,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and then four days in Paris.
- 7:07Speaker 3: By the time we got to Paris, we were like, yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 3: it was very we were very torn.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We were still crying in the Yeah, oh my god,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was sobby. Oh I was sure it was a
- 7:18Speaker 1: good time. Yeah, very fine. But shall we get into
- 7:21Speaker 1: our highlights and low lights? Okay, we're gonna Should.
- 7:25Speaker 2: We start with the low lights and then end on
- 7:28Speaker 2: end on a high Okay?
- 7:31Speaker 1: My first low light of Europe the teavs. Let's talk
- 7:35Speaker 1: about it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: While we were in Europe, I posted a video ontok
- 7:40Speaker 3: and I was asking if I had been scammed because
- 7:44Speaker 3: when I tell you, these teavas took a bandada against
- 7:50Speaker 3: my big toes.
- 7:52Speaker 1: The blisters were insane. They were like full on wounds.
- 7:56Speaker 2: They would yes, I could not wear any other shoes,
- 8:00Speaker 2: accept full enclosed shoes like sneakers or cowboy boots. So
- 8:04Speaker 2: I am at the beach in like sneakers and I
- 8:08Speaker 2: was like, guys, look, And the thing is we ended
- 8:12Speaker 2: up getting teebers because everyone was like, these are the
- 8:14Speaker 2: comfyer's shoes.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And that was like a consensus.
- 8:17Speaker 3: That was everything we saw on TikTok and also in
- 8:19Speaker 3: our Facebook group bro Chicks Club, until one chick came
- 8:24Speaker 3: through in the comments and she said, you wear them
- 8:28Speaker 3: as loose as possible, wear them loose, and then wear
- 8:32Speaker 3: them looser.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Our wounds heeled ya, and then they wear the comfy
- 8:36Speaker 1: of shoes. Yeah, Lucy Goosey was the way to go.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm like, would I recommend them? Yes, with
- 8:42Speaker 2: an asterisk, I would recommend them with that advice because
- 8:48Speaker 2: I have yet to find another pair of sandals that
- 8:51Speaker 2: have done a better job.
- 8:52Speaker 1: We have a roller coaster relationship with teevs we do.
- 8:55Speaker 2: That leads me onto my next low light, which was
- 8:59Speaker 2: the heat sometimes. So we went in peak summer, of course,
- 9:04Speaker 2: which is amazing.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You know, it's euro summer, like that's.
- 9:08Speaker 2: The vibe, but it is fucking hot in Italy sum
- 9:15Speaker 2: in Greece, in Paris it was hot and it felt
- 9:19Speaker 2: like a different kind of heat than what I'm used
- 9:23Speaker 2: to living in Sydney.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And you run hot and I do run hot.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And that's why I'm saying sometimes because when I was
- 9:29Speaker 2: at the beach it was great. I loved, you know,
- 9:32Speaker 2: being hot and then being able to run in the
- 9:33Speaker 2: water and then run back out and you know, repeat
- 9:35Speaker 2: that process multiple times. But when I was walking through Athens,
- 9:39Speaker 2: or I was walking through Rome and there was not
- 9:42Speaker 2: a beach in sight, it was definitely a struggle from that.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And we did do this, and I'm glad we did
- 9:49Speaker 1: pack light.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, don't bother packing jackets on previous trips with pack
- 9:56Speaker 2: jackets being like, oh what if it's cool.
- 9:58Speaker 1: At night, you will not if you were, which we didn't.
- 10:01Speaker 1: For this trip, we were smart.
- 10:02Speaker 2: We were exactly and I feel like most of the
- 10:05Speaker 2: pieces that we packed were really lightweight materials like linen
- 10:09Speaker 2: and whatnot that not only made it easier to packs,
- 10:12Speaker 2: you can pack more stuff, but it was the perfect
- 10:15Speaker 2: lightweight things to also like protect you from the sun
- 10:18Speaker 2: and keep you a little bit cooler because it's fucking hot.
- 10:21Speaker 2: If you're going during peak eurosummer time, it's going to
- 10:26Speaker 2: be cold in Australia, So in your carry on, make
- 10:28Speaker 2: sure to pack like a T shirt and shorts to
- 10:31Speaker 2: get changed into before you get off the plane so
- 10:34Speaker 2: that you're not like there and you're matching sweats, just
- 10:37Speaker 2: absolutely dripping buckets.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I also loved that part of the plane right where
- 10:42Speaker 3: we got changed out of US sweats into like US
- 10:44Speaker 3: summer and pail and I was like, it's happening, Oh yeah, okay,
- 10:48Speaker 3: and then a super quick low light was prepare to
- 10:52Speaker 3: line up.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah. The ques, especially in Italy, there basically wasn't a
- 10:56Speaker 2: spot to get like dinner didn't have a wait.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I think like most other places were. Okay, London was a.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Bit like you've got a book, you've got to.
- 11:08Speaker 1: You know, plan, not necessarily like before you leave.
- 11:11Speaker 3: You don't have to have a whole itinerary of like
- 11:13Speaker 3: reservations a day before.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, the day before, like have a think about where
- 11:17Speaker 1: you want to eat.
- 11:18Speaker 3: If you pass somewhere on the street and you're like,
- 11:19Speaker 3: well that looks good, just book the reservation.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And you can always cancel it if you don't eat it.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. Okay, shall we get into the highlights. First
- 11:29Speaker 2: highlight would be traveling.
- 11:32Speaker 1: With the investie. There's nothing like and.
- 11:36Speaker 2: We're having this chat before this potty ep because, as
- 11:41Speaker 2: we said before, like the whole part, like the thing
- 11:44Speaker 2: that made it, honestly like the best trip ever was
- 11:47Speaker 2: seeing everyone and having like you know, meeting up with
- 11:50Speaker 2: people in certain spots and getting to have those experiences,
- 11:54Speaker 2: but also obviously getting to travel together, because who you
- 11:57Speaker 2: travel with will make or.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Break Yeah for sure.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you really need to make sure that
- 12:03Speaker 2: whoever you're traveling with you.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Are aligned in your travel styles.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Like if one person is like, okay, I've got an
- 12:11Speaker 2: itinerary I plan it to the tea, and the other
- 12:13Speaker 2: person's like, I'd just like.
- 12:15Speaker 1: To go with the flow, like.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I don't know where I'm going next like this, and
- 12:19Speaker 2: that you two probably shouldn't travel. I think if you
- 12:22Speaker 2: sit somewhere in the middle, you can, because you're not
- 12:25Speaker 2: going to.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Be exactly the same.
- 12:26Speaker 2: With that, you have to have compromise with whoever you're
- 12:30Speaker 2: traveling with. Make sure that like you're both contributing things
- 12:32Speaker 2: that you want to do. And if there's something that
- 12:35Speaker 2: like you want to do and your friend doesn't, also
- 12:39Speaker 2: be okay to do it on your own.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Yeah, So I think that's definitely something to keep in
- 12:43Speaker 1: mind when you're traveling with friends, to like have the compromise. Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think, yeah, traveling with friends everyone should
- 12:51Speaker 3: do because we travel a lot with like partners.
- 12:54Speaker 2: But I think getting a trip in with your besties
- 12:56Speaker 2: is just as important. I think so like you make
- 12:59Speaker 2: such core memory together, and I think it can be
- 13:02Speaker 2: really good to also like reinvigorate a friendship. You get
- 13:06Speaker 2: so many amazing stories and personal jokes and experiences together by.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Traveling with your friends, So I think it's good.
- 13:13Speaker 3: To mix it up so our next life lesson is
- 13:16Speaker 3: brought to you by the sponsor of today's episode, Velocity
- 13:20Speaker 3: Frequent Flyer, the loyalty program of Virgin Australia. So biggest
- 13:26Speaker 3: life lesson that we did take from this was how
- 13:28Speaker 3: to be strategic and how you can earn and use
- 13:32Speaker 3: your Frequent Flyer points because it's not just something that
- 13:36Speaker 3: your parents were doing childhood.
- 13:38Speaker 1: It's actually a vibe and I'm obsessed with it. Ols
- 13:43Speaker 1: and official points hacked, Oh oh my god. Every week
- 13:46Speaker 1: I'm like, how can I hack my points? It's the best.
- 13:50Speaker 2: So obviously we both earned Velocity points. So we flew
- 13:54Speaker 2: to and from Europe with Singapore Airlines because they're partnered
- 13:58Speaker 2: with Virgin Australia.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So this meant that we.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Could actually earn Velocity points and status on our flights
- 14:06Speaker 2: and access the Chris Flyer Lounge at Singapore Airport during
- 14:10Speaker 2: our layover because of our Velocity Gold status, and we
- 14:16Speaker 2: earned almost ten thousand Velocity points just on our flight
- 14:20Speaker 2: to Ryme so good.
- 14:21Speaker 1: We hadn't even started on the holiday. We already got
- 14:24Speaker 1: almost ten thousand points and that's enough.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Points to redeem a Virgin Australia flight from Sydney to
- 14:30Speaker 2: Melbourne with points to spare, so not bad good saws.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And the cherry on top is that the Velocity Frequent
- 14:39Speaker 2: Fly program is also free to join.
- 14:42Speaker 3: It's a bit of a no brainer and it's definitely
- 14:44Speaker 3: something that I wish I was doing earlier in my twenty.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Imagine all of the points that we would have collected
- 14:49Speaker 2: by now.
- 14:50Speaker 3: But I'm also like, I'm glad that I've incorporated it
- 14:53Speaker 3: into a habit of my spending. It's just it's like
- 14:56Speaker 3: front of mind. It's like you know when you're eighteen
- 14:59Speaker 3: and you're shopping and you're like, no, I'm going to
- 15:00Speaker 3: get a promo code, like I'm not gonna buy this
- 15:03Speaker 3: the other PREMI code.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Like that's where it is in my brain. That's growing up.
- 15:07Speaker 3: But as well as flying and traveling, like we mentioned,
- 15:11Speaker 3: you can earn Velocity points on everyday purchases, so like
- 15:14Speaker 3: your petrol, shopping, ride shairs with DD.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Like I've converted to d D just so I can
- 15:20Speaker 1: earn points.
- 15:21Speaker 2: But my favorite thing about it is that you're earning
- 15:24Speaker 2: rewards and points on money that you're already spending. I've
- 15:28Speaker 2: been collecting Flybys points on my groceries or my Kmart
- 15:34Speaker 2: runs because they're basically weekly.
- 15:36Speaker 1: At this point.
- 15:37Speaker 2: But then you can transfer them into Velocity Points too,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and you can you know, open up these apps and
- 15:45Speaker 2: they also have ways to activate offers to get even
- 15:49Speaker 2: more points. So an example that is no longer live,
- 15:53Speaker 2: but an example I did in the past was for toothbrushes.
- 15:57Speaker 2: For when you bought tooth brushes and there were three
- 16:00Speaker 2: dollars fifty, you got seven hundred and fifty points.
- 16:05Speaker 1: It was just a promo.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Like that's an example of one of the things that
- 16:08Speaker 2: you can put in or you can activate it when
- 16:10Speaker 2: you're doing your grocery shopping for certain types of shops,
- 16:14Speaker 2: like you get you know, and extra points for shopping
- 16:17Speaker 2: pantry items or.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Whatever it is.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Yeah, those examples are no longer valid, but they have,
- 16:23Speaker 3: you know, updates of offers all the time that before
- 16:26Speaker 3: I go to do my weekly grocery shop, I always
- 16:29Speaker 3: check that.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And again it's just something that I'm like, I.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Wish I'd been doing this my entire life, Yeah, exactly,
- 16:36Speaker 4: And it's just looking for all the different ways that
- 16:38Speaker 4: you can earn Velocity points on money that you were
- 16:41Speaker 4: already going to spend and rewarding yourself for money that
- 16:46Speaker 4: you're already going to spend.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we think that the only way you
- 16:49Speaker 3: can earn points is through getting credit cards or through travel. Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 3: all through travel, which you definitely can earn points through that,
- 16:56Speaker 3: but there are so many other ways to explore how
- 17:00Speaker 3: you can earn points, and there's a lot of it
- 17:02Speaker 3: comes from like brand loyalty or places that you're already spending.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Money exactly, and you feel like such a savvy queen
- 17:07Speaker 2: earning points on every.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Dollar that you spent.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 2: So the other life lesson here is don't forget to
- 17:14Speaker 2: add your Velocity number to your booking when you fly
- 17:17Speaker 2: with Virgin Australia, Singapore Airlines and other partnered airlines to
- 17:21Speaker 2: make sure that you're also rewarding yourself for your travel.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's like slar points queens. Okay. The musical bar in
- 17:30Speaker 1: London Overtures.
- 17:31Speaker 2: If you like show tunes and musicals, please go there.
- 17:35Speaker 1: It's like a hole in the wall.
- 17:37Speaker 3: That we went out with Gem Diamond and we went
- 17:40Speaker 3: to this pub and I was telling Jem about this
- 17:44Speaker 3: New York place that we went to that was like
- 17:46Speaker 3: a show tunes bar called Marie's Crisis. Yeah, and we
- 17:50Speaker 3: were like that was one of the funnest nights, and
- 17:51Speaker 3: I was like, London and New York are like the
- 17:54Speaker 3: same font. I was like, they've got to have something
- 17:57Speaker 3: like that here, And so then anyway, we ended up
- 17:59Speaker 3: finding it and.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It was the best night. It was the best night.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I would say it's in my.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Top three nights that we had in the whole trip.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I would even go as far to say maybe the
- 18:10Speaker 3: number one.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I think it was maybe the number one too, Like
- 18:13Speaker 1: it was so fun. We made so many friends this night.
- 18:16Speaker 2: It was just so silly, and the people there were
- 18:20Speaker 2: just so beautiful and amazing.
- 18:23Speaker 3: The bartenders were so nice. One of them, I was
- 18:26Speaker 3: so we were so drunk, and one of them ended
- 18:29Speaker 3: up taking like fifteen minutes to make me a shot
- 18:34Speaker 3: and I went to do it and I just tipped
- 18:36Speaker 3: the whole fucking thing over the bar and he looked
- 18:38Speaker 3: at me and I was.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Like, this is your fault. The kind of life lesson
- 18:42Speaker 1: that I pulled.
- 18:42Speaker 3: From this is that even when you're going on overseas
- 18:46Speaker 3: trips and you're going away on holidays and there are like.
- 18:49Speaker 1: The truest things to do, and you know.
- 18:52Speaker 2: The tiktoks of like the ten best things to do
- 18:55Speaker 2: in London. Also remember to find the weird, niche things
- 18:59Speaker 2: that you really like, Like in no TikTok or broad
- 19:04Speaker 2: sheet article, was there anything about this musical theater bar.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But because we love show.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Tunes and like hair Spray and The Great show Men
- 19:15Speaker 3: and Wicked, we were like, this is so fun, let's
- 19:17Speaker 3: go do that that. It's like do those things that, like,
- 19:21Speaker 3: remember what your interests are, remember the things that you
- 19:24Speaker 3: like doing, and make sure you do that, Like there
- 19:27Speaker 3: are so many cool and unique things to do overseas
- 19:30Speaker 3: that will align with the interests that aren't necessarily interests
- 19:33Speaker 3: of like the masses.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And then our last highlight would be.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Be organized but not to a fault, kind of like
- 19:39Speaker 2: what we're saying before, like reserve places if you do
- 19:42Speaker 2: want to eat there, have a bit of a plan,
- 19:44Speaker 2: have things that are going to make the holiday a
- 19:47Speaker 2: seamless process, but don't feel like you need to have
- 19:50Speaker 2: every hour mapped out or anything like that. Because we
- 19:53Speaker 2: got a question on the question book saying like should
- 19:56Speaker 2: I plan or go with the flow, and like both.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Don't I feel like you need to meticulously plan everything
- 20:02Speaker 2: because I think that will just end up stressing you out,
- 20:05Speaker 2: but also going to the flow, you will end up
- 20:08Speaker 2: missing out on things because they do get booked out
- 20:10Speaker 2: in advance.
- 20:11Speaker 1: So I would say with tours, especially in Rome.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Book those like as soon as you can, as soon
- 20:17Speaker 2: as they open it up, because they do get booked.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Out, and then you have to end up paying.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Like a triple the price to go with a tour
- 20:24Speaker 2: because they buy the tickets and then they sell you
- 20:26Speaker 2: the tour Save or Splurge Europe edition. So easily the
- 20:31Speaker 2: most popular question that we have received is how much
- 20:36Speaker 2: should you budget? So your budget really does depend on
- 20:42Speaker 2: what you want to do and how you like to travel.
- 20:46Speaker 1: For example, we knew we wanted.
- 20:49Speaker 3: To stay in hotels or secure airbnbs. It's really personal preference,
- 20:54Speaker 3: Like we wanted places that we could keep our luggage
- 20:58Speaker 3: securely and just having the security of knowing like there
- 21:02Speaker 3: was a front desk and security.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Because it was our first time.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and we've kind of learned the life lesson of
- 21:10Speaker 3: when we like went for you know, something that was
- 21:14Speaker 3: outside of the city center and how we ended up
- 21:17Speaker 3: like spending double the money to travel to all the
- 21:20Speaker 3: things that we needed to go to that you actually
- 21:22Speaker 3: save money by booking the hotels and the airbnbs that
- 21:26Speaker 3: are actually in the city center. So I do really
- 21:30Speaker 3: think it depends on what you want.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So before we left on.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Our ig story, we asked how much people have spent,
- 21:39Speaker 3: because I think it's good to pull in the range.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah, because you know, we.
- 21:46Speaker 3: We originally tried to budget one hundred dollars a night
- 21:51Speaker 3: on hotels, which just did not end up happening. We
- 21:55Speaker 3: were pretty good though, like we ended up getting like
- 21:58Speaker 3: mainly like two hundred a night, which like split between
- 22:02Speaker 3: two b ends up around that. So it was actually
- 22:05Speaker 3: okay because we're also just like savvy in the way
- 22:09Speaker 3: that we've been like we'll sit there and go through
- 22:11Speaker 3: it for ages.
- 22:13Speaker 1: But I would say that we were kind of in
- 22:14Speaker 1: the mid tier.
- 22:15Speaker 2: We didn't necessarily just like go hell for leather, but
- 22:18Speaker 2: we were like, this is our first Europe trip. We've
- 22:21Speaker 2: saved up, like we want to do the things that
- 22:24Speaker 2: we want to do.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I don't want to like regret not doing something because
- 22:29Speaker 3: it was maybe one hundred dollars aud more than I
- 22:32Speaker 3: wanted to spend when in like two years time, the
- 22:35Speaker 3: one hundred dollars, I'm not like in amiss, you know what,
- 22:38Speaker 3: I mean, whereas.
- 22:40Speaker 1: We're also like older, Like if I was.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Eighteen and doing this, it would be a very very
- 22:45Speaker 3: different holiday.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But I genuinely would not have been able to afford
- 22:47Speaker 1: this when I was eighteen, And.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I'm so impressed with how many people can exact that,
- 22:53Speaker 3: just like is a testament to their savings.
- 22:55Speaker 1: So I think, if you want to do it, you can.
- 22:58Speaker 3: You just need to figure out the itinerary and how
- 23:02Speaker 3: you want to do it and the things that matter
- 23:04Speaker 3: to you and the things that don't matter. So the
- 23:07Speaker 3: answers like varied from seven thousand dollars, like people did
- 23:11Speaker 3: Europe on seven thousand dollars, to twenty five thousand dollars,
- 23:15Speaker 3: and then there were some that was forty thousand.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Dollars, which was wild. Yeah, but that's the thing.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Like these responses also included people who were backpacking doing centiquies,
- 23:28Speaker 2: staying for four weeks or staying for three months exactly.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Some people were like.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I paid this much, but I booked a few bougie things, yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you know, and they were go in the more bougie route.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So I think that's the thing, Like there's no one
- 23:43Speaker 2: best budget for Europe or one number that I think
- 23:47Speaker 2: that we can give being like this is how much
- 23:48Speaker 2: you need to say for Europe, because it really depends
- 23:52Speaker 2: on where you want to go, what time of the
- 23:54Speaker 2: year traveling, and the sorts of things that you want
- 23:56Speaker 2: to do. But I think that you can make it
- 24:00Speaker 2: work for your budget, and it's just a matter of
- 24:02Speaker 2: being conscious about.
- 24:04Speaker 3: The things that are the most expensive is the flights
- 24:08Speaker 3: and the accommodation.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and then you can really kind of.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Manage your budget from then on, I reckon when you're
- 24:17Speaker 3: over there, Like, there's definitely you know that is like
- 24:20Speaker 3: choice from that point.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, it's just having a number and a goal
- 24:24Speaker 2: for yourself and then you can always change that if
- 24:26Speaker 2: you need to. But I think just having something to
- 24:28Speaker 2: start with is really helpful and motivating.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah, So how I would go about doing that is like,
- 24:32Speaker 3: think of the number that you want, like maybe look around,
- 24:35Speaker 3: see what you want to do, and then think of
- 24:36Speaker 3: the number that you want. If that's like ten thousand,
- 24:39Speaker 3: let's say, then divide that by the amount of weeks,
- 24:43Speaker 3: but shorter. Because what happens is with your booking, if
- 24:46Speaker 3: you book to pay later, you end up paying within
- 24:49Speaker 3: the month before you go, So you kind of want
- 24:50Speaker 3: to have that money saved up and ready to go
- 24:54Speaker 3: at least a month before you leave.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's kind of how to do it.
- 24:59Speaker 2: But did you want to run us through some of
- 25:02Speaker 2: the things that will affect your travel budgets? So number one,
- 25:08Speaker 2: not comparing or using simple tools to save money, so
- 25:12Speaker 2: for example, sites with price match guarantees or free cancellations
- 25:18Speaker 2: as well where you're traveling to and when you're traveling.
- 25:23Speaker 2: So if you're going to travel to Europe in June, July, August,
- 25:29Speaker 2: that's probably going to be the most expensive time of
- 25:31Speaker 2: the year. If you're not married to the idea of
- 25:35Speaker 2: going in like the euro summer, you'll save money. Yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 2: if you go during some of the shoulder seasons, and
- 25:40Speaker 2: I think that a lot of those places, like in
- 25:43Speaker 2: Italy and in Greece, it's.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Going to be warm even in autumn.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And spring, so you can still do a lot of
- 25:49Speaker 2: those things and go on boat tours and stuff like that,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but you might be able to save a bit of money.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You'd save a lot of money by doing that.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I look at it an accommodation and I accidentally put
- 25:57Speaker 2: in the wrong dates and the difference between September and
- 26:04Speaker 2: July was three thousand dollars. Wow.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah for six nights. Yeah, the difference was three thousand dollars.
- 26:11Speaker 3: So again, if you're not married to like the euro
- 26:14Speaker 3: summer months, you will save a lot of money.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And then, like al said, book tours for popular tourist
- 26:22Speaker 2: spots in advance, so things like the Coliseum, the Vatican,
- 26:26Speaker 2: the Louver because, like al said, a lot of third
- 26:29Speaker 2: party tour guide companies buy out the tickets and then
- 26:34Speaker 2: they sell them with a premium. So especially if like
- 26:38Speaker 2: you are happy to go at your own pace and
- 26:40Speaker 2: you don't want a tour guide, you just want to
- 26:42Speaker 2: walk around the loove and do your own thing, You're
- 26:44Speaker 2: going to save a lot of money by booking those
- 26:47Speaker 2: things in advance directly through the site rather than through
- 26:49Speaker 2: a third party.
- 26:50Speaker 1: So try not to leave those things to the last minute.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Okay, So some of our favorite saves and some of
- 26:56Speaker 3: our favorite spurges save unlike food ANDBVS and dining, So
- 27:03Speaker 3: you do not need to be going to like Michelin
- 27:05Speaker 3: star restaurants or like five star restaurants. Some of the
- 27:08Speaker 3: best food we had were the most like hole in
- 27:11Speaker 3: the wall.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You would not.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Expect much from it, but it's like the most authentic
- 27:18Speaker 2: experience and those were easily the best meals we had.
- 27:21Speaker 2: We splurged like one night on a fancy meal and
- 27:27Speaker 2: it was not worth it.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Like it was fun and the like place.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Was beautiful and like getting dressed up, but like, I, oh.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I hate myself for this. So because I was like,
- 27:43Speaker 1: I want to build Rachel.
- 27:45Speaker 3: So we're there and I was like, I'm going to
- 27:47Speaker 3: try an eatsta because we'd been somewhere earlier that day
- 27:51Speaker 3: and Mad's had got an oyster and she's like, oh,
- 27:53Speaker 3: it's beauty like it Like I'm in Italy, I'm gonna
- 27:55Speaker 3: have an oyster.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And so then that night I was like, I'm an Italy,
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna have an oyster. I don't like oysters. But
- 28:01Speaker 1: I went in Rome literally and I was like, but
- 28:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. I mean Italy, I'm gonna have
- 28:06Speaker 1: a late star. Yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 3: This motherfucker was big fucking oyster I've ever seen in
- 28:11Speaker 3: my entire life.
- 28:12Speaker 1: This was like a cow of an oyster. It was huge.
- 28:17Speaker 1: It was like you know how they bring like a
- 28:19Speaker 1: dainty lit the fork.
- 28:20Speaker 2: You could have just brought a normal sized fork out
- 28:22Speaker 2: to scoop it out. It right, honestly, it was so
- 28:28Speaker 2: they brought it out and I was like, Oh, the
- 28:29Speaker 2: motherfucker is not going to slip and slide, because I
- 28:32Speaker 2: don't know how everyone else ees their oysters, but I'm like,
- 28:34Speaker 2: throw it back. The only other times I've ever had
- 28:36Speaker 2: oysters is when we go to like a fancy like
- 28:39Speaker 2: work event. This motherfucker was so big that I like
- 28:42Speaker 2: put it in my mouth and I went for it
- 28:44Speaker 2: to go on like slide back, and I didn't slide back.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And then then then this.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Thing, this this runny plato, was like sitting in my mouth,
- 28:56Speaker 2: and then.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I thought about it for too long. I thought about
- 28:59Speaker 1: it for too.
- 29:00Speaker 5: No, And I look at Rob and sounds piercing herself,
- 29:08Speaker 5: and I have the fear of God in my eyes.
- 29:11Speaker 2: And Rob is going, do not spit that out, Alex,
- 29:14Speaker 2: do not, And all the weights are looking.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Mischelon Star five Star restaurant. It was a castle and
- 29:19Speaker 1: there's all these people around, and.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I'm looking and going.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And I'm either going to throw up or I'm gonna
- 29:25Speaker 1: spit it out.
- 29:26Speaker 2: So I picked up that oyster shell and I put
- 29:28Speaker 2: it back where it came from and I was.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Like, I couldn't do it. I thought about it too much.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I thought about it way too much. But Rob was
- 29:38Speaker 2: also so embarrassed. He was like Alex and I was like,
- 29:41Speaker 2: you have to eat it? What?
- 29:47Speaker 1: And I go, you have to eat the oyster. They looked,
- 29:49Speaker 1: they saw.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yeah, there's like there's a smashed up oyster which it
- 29:53Speaker 2: already started smashed.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but I was like, you have to eat it.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And he's like, I don't want.
- 29:59Speaker 2: To eat it, and I was like please, because also
- 30:02Speaker 2: in Italy, if you don't finish your food, they're like
- 30:04Speaker 2: you didn't like the food, whereas they know.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I was like, and so that's.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Where Rob earned his stripes on this trip, for when
- 30:12Speaker 2: he picked up my half salive a soaked oyster and
- 30:18Speaker 2: ate it vinegar free.
- 30:21Speaker 1: That's what real love is. I love, oh my god,
- 30:24Speaker 1: the loveless. And it's like going fancy does not make
- 30:28Speaker 1: a good holiday.
- 30:29Speaker 2: You do not need to go to the five star
- 30:31Speaker 2: restaurants in order to get the best experience.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Yeah, because and maybe we're just like uncultured yeah, which
- 30:39Speaker 1: like is probably true, but what do you mean.
- 30:42Speaker 2: But like if you don't enjoy, like shocking oysters at home.
- 30:46Speaker 1: That's not going to change just because you're an it.
- 30:48Speaker 2: You also don't need to go to the place that
- 30:51Speaker 2: is like the most expensive. Like there are so many
- 30:53Speaker 2: places that were holes in the wall that also had oysters.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and I probably would.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Have spat those out too, And then says is your transport.
- 31:02Speaker 2: It was actually so easy to get around once you
- 31:05Speaker 2: figure it out, and there was an incredible app.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: So before we left, we'd done some research on the
- 31:14Speaker 2: different types of apps that we should use, and city
- 31:16Speaker 2: Mapper was one of the most recommended apps to plan
- 31:21Speaker 2: your bus and train trips, especially in London and Paris.
- 31:24Speaker 2: It's so easy to get around those cities using the
- 31:29Speaker 2: tube or catching the busy job.
- 31:32Speaker 1: It was so easy. I was very pleasantly surprised.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think we'll get into this later. But
- 31:38Speaker 2: like what we'd seen on TikTok, I was expecting it
- 31:40Speaker 2: to be like the wild Wah West, like on the
- 31:42Speaker 2: public Woo witt you that song Will Smith. Yeah, I
- 31:47Speaker 2: was expecting it to be like quite hectic on the
- 31:50Speaker 2: public transport, especially in London and Paris, And in our experience,
- 31:54Speaker 2: it was fine and we saved like a lot of
- 31:56Speaker 2: money doing that, but they do have like ubers and
- 32:00Speaker 2: taxis and stuff. Yeah, but you will save a lot
- 32:03Speaker 2: of money if you just get the train. Yeah, And
- 32:06Speaker 2: you know what, I will say, sometimes the taxi is
- 32:09Speaker 2: worth it because like.
- 32:10Speaker 1: When there was one day in Rome.
- 32:12Speaker 2: That was like high thirties and the walk was forty
- 32:15Speaker 2: five to fifty minutes to something we wanted to go to.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And I knew that, well, we knew if we walked
- 32:23Speaker 2: that once we got to the thing we wanted to do,
- 32:25Speaker 2: we were going to be in a shit mood. Yeah,
- 32:27Speaker 2: because we don't want to walk fifty minutes in like
- 32:31Speaker 2: high thirties. That I was like, this is worth it
- 32:33Speaker 2: for the experience in order to have a good time.
- 32:37Speaker 2: But like when it wasn't like that, when it was
- 32:39Speaker 2: like a twenty minute to thirty.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Minute walk, We're like, exactly, because.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Once ten minutes is done, you're at twenty minutes, which
- 32:47Speaker 2: is so close to ten minutes, which.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Is you're there exactly, you know, and you're there math
- 32:52Speaker 1: that time.
- 32:52Speaker 2: So like, those are the things that you can save on,
- 32:54Speaker 2: but to splurge on, you do want to splurge on,
- 32:57Speaker 2: like the experiences and the things that you know are
- 33:01Speaker 2: so unique to that holiday and so unique to the
- 33:04Speaker 2: culture and the spaces that like, even though they are expensive,
- 33:08Speaker 2: like are a once in a lifetime opportunity. Yeah, and
- 33:11Speaker 2: I also think like lean into the cheesy tourist activities
- 33:15Speaker 2: like if it's your first time, go to the pasta
- 33:18Speaker 2: making class, do the coliseum tour, like those were the
- 33:21Speaker 2: best days that I think. Sometimes you think like, oh,
- 33:24Speaker 2: like I'm just being a lame tourist, but I'm like, no,
- 33:27Speaker 2: it's fun and these things are iconic and have historical
- 33:32Speaker 2: significance for a reason, like you will learn so much
- 33:36Speaker 2: or gain so many amazing memories that will absolutely make
- 33:40Speaker 2: the trip. And yes, sometimes they're a little bit of
- 33:43Speaker 2: a splurge.
- 33:44Speaker 1: But it is so worth it completely.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And then our final splurge is the vintage shopping.
- 33:51Speaker 1: The vintage shopping, especially in London.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, was some of the best I have
- 33:56Speaker 2: ever experienced, and that includes in New York and LA.
- 34:02Speaker 2: The vintage shopping in London is unmatched.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It was so so good.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I think that you also can find some really good
- 34:12Speaker 2: bargains as well.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Whereas when we did vintage shopping in New York.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And LA in the last time, we were there, it
- 34:18Speaker 2: was so expensive, and I was like, I could find
- 34:20Speaker 2: a lot of this stuff for a lot cheaper at
- 34:23Speaker 2: Gleave markets, whereas in London, I was like, oh my god,
- 34:26Speaker 2: there are so many unique pieces that I have never
- 34:29Speaker 2: seen before across any of my vintage shopping travels.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And they're not that expensive.
- 34:35Speaker 2: So our favorite spots, if we have to pick two,
- 34:38Speaker 2: were brick Laye Vintage Market and also the Portobello Road Markets.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You can spend hours and hours here.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Okay, And our last segment of the episode, Things TikTok
- 34:52Speaker 2: lied to us about Europe number what.
- 34:58Speaker 1: The luggage.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I'm sure most of us have seen those videos of
- 35:03Speaker 2: chicks just hauling these suitcases upstairs, which is valid, but
- 35:09Speaker 2: we did not have a single time that we had
- 35:12Speaker 2: to do that. So we actually got like the backpack suitcase,
- 35:16Speaker 2: like the backpack is suitcases, which were really good.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Like I thought that bag was super lightweight.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I fit everything I needed to, but it was a
- 35:26Speaker 2: little bit smaller. So there's a kind of a pro
- 35:28Speaker 2: and a con because it meant I didn't overpack.
- 35:32Speaker 1: And it meant I didn't overspend on shopping. Yeah, same,
- 35:36Speaker 1: but I still wanted to.
- 35:38Speaker 2: It was but the thing is you don't need to
- 35:42Speaker 2: go and buy a completely new suitcase. The one you've
- 35:45Speaker 2: got is fine because really the amount of times that
- 35:49Speaker 2: you will have to haul it upstairs, if you even do,
- 35:52Speaker 2: is very minimal. And so many places that you stay
- 35:55Speaker 2: off of transfers and the people help you with your
- 35:58Speaker 2: bags like it's actually chill, it's fine. Yeah, I would
- 36:03Speaker 2: do some research on where you're staying and the accommodation
- 36:07Speaker 2: and like Google map it from the ferry to where
- 36:11Speaker 2: you're going, reach out and see if there are transfers
- 36:13Speaker 2: available or what options there are for you, and how
- 36:17Speaker 2: likely it is going to be that you're going to
- 36:18Speaker 2: be dragging your suitcase around because yeah, like al said,
- 36:21Speaker 2: we did not experience that at all, and.
- 36:24Speaker 1: We could have just used the suitcases that we already had.
- 36:26Speaker 2: The next thing that TikTok lied to us about is
- 36:30Speaker 2: I guess, like planning your trip and which places to.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Go to, like the best places to stay.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is especially relevant for Greece, I would say,
- 36:44Speaker 2: because you know, there are lots of different Greek islands
- 36:46Speaker 2: and lots of them are popular for different things. We
- 36:49Speaker 2: went to eos Paris and we were going to go
- 36:52Speaker 2: to Mikinos. Like we said, EOS is super super popular,
- 36:56Speaker 2: one of the most highly recommended places on TikTok, but
- 37:00Speaker 2: it is a party island.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but like not for us.
- 37:04Speaker 2: So okay. I genuinely think we were probably in the
- 37:07Speaker 2: top ten percent of oldest people there fully for one,
- 37:10Speaker 2: which like that's fine.
- 37:12Speaker 1: We just didn't know that.
- 37:13Speaker 2: And it was all hard techno club vibes, which if
- 37:19Speaker 2: that is your vibe, you would probably love that, but we.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Didn't realize that.
- 37:24Speaker 3: We were just like it was just like, yeah, this
- 37:26Speaker 3: is such a cool, fun party buy with like lots
- 37:28Speaker 3: of people.
- 37:29Speaker 1: That's the energy. It was full of, like twenty one
- 37:32Speaker 1: year old Australians.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's so fine if you're within that demographic
- 37:37Speaker 2: or you like techno music and you want to go party.
- 37:40Speaker 2: We still had fun though, and we loved the silent disco.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 1: One night that I was like, how did we get here?
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, And like the beaches were beautiful, our accommodation was
- 37:50Speaker 2: so great. We had an amazing time. Yeah, But I
- 37:54Speaker 2: think that was something that we didn't realize when we
- 37:56Speaker 2: were doing the research for EOS. Yeah, there was probably
- 37:59Speaker 2: an eye that would have aligned more to our interests
- 38:04Speaker 2: than Eos because basically it's nocturnal there, like one's out
- 38:09Speaker 2: and about during the day and then no one goes
- 38:12Speaker 2: out till like midnight, and I can't do that. Yeah,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I'm too old for that. I don't think I've ever
- 38:19Speaker 2: been a start. No, I've never been a start at
- 38:23Speaker 2: midnight girly. So I think you can still use TikTok
- 38:28Speaker 2: to research, because there was also things that were helpful,
- 38:31Speaker 2: like when we were like, okay, where should we stay,
- 38:33Speaker 2: Like what suburbs or what cities like that's how we
- 38:35Speaker 2: found NOWSA to stay in Paros. Yeah, so that is helpful,
- 38:40Speaker 2: But we wanted to stay in Paros because of the
- 38:42Speaker 2: word of mouth. So pull research and tips and recommendations
- 38:49Speaker 2: from TikTok.
- 38:50Speaker 1: But maybe people that align more within.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Your interests, or people you know that have similar interests
- 38:57Speaker 2: to you, because like, if we're going to go again,
- 38:59Speaker 2: which likes I hope we do, we probably wouldn't do
- 39:02Speaker 2: Eos again, yeah, but we would do Paros definitely, you know.
- 39:05Speaker 1: And also factor in your downtime and rest days.
- 39:08Speaker 2: We don't do this, and then when you're on the
- 39:10Speaker 2: holiday and you do need a bit of a rest day,
- 39:12Speaker 2: you end up feeling.
- 39:12Speaker 1: A bit guilty for it. Yeah, but I feel like
- 39:15Speaker 1: we're getting over that. Like there was a night in
- 39:16Speaker 1: London that we were like.
- 39:18Speaker 2: We're tired, and we ended up staying in and we
- 39:20Speaker 2: watched Nodding Hill.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was still like one of my favorite nights. Yeah,
- 39:25Speaker 1: it was wonderful. You do kind of.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Feel this pressure that you're like, oh, this is this
- 39:29Speaker 2: is such an expensive trip. But if you don't allow
- 39:31Speaker 2: yourself to rest, you won't, like you'll be playing catch
- 39:34Speaker 2: up the whole time.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 39:37Speaker 2: The next thing, TikTok lied to us about Europe, So
- 39:40Speaker 2: I tried the TikTok viral X. So there were lots
- 39:44Speaker 2: of different things that we were like, we have to
- 39:46Speaker 2: go here and here because we've seen them on TikTok.
- 39:48Speaker 2: So I think, you know, the expectations were a little
- 39:52Speaker 2: bit different to what we've seen on TikTok versus the
- 39:55Speaker 2: experiences that we had at some of these viral places. Yeah,
- 39:58Speaker 2: you're seeing like the highlight and like, especially when something
- 40:02Speaker 2: does have has gone viral, you do have to also
- 40:04Speaker 2: expect like the line and like the way that yeah,
- 40:08Speaker 2: you are getting the highlight reel. Yeah, the other thing
- 40:11Speaker 2: that TikTok led to us, it.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Was like Paris will be fucked Like it was like,
- 40:15Speaker 1: it's going to be so busy, it's gonna be people everywhere.
- 40:18Speaker 1: And then the Paris was the quietest place that we went. Yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 1: it was so quiet because everyone that lives there left. Yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 1: because we were there during the Olympics.
- 40:28Speaker 2: We were there probably on like maybe the second or
- 40:31Speaker 2: third day of the Olympics, so we were expecting Paris
- 40:33Speaker 2: to be rammed, but really all of the Parisians had left,
- 40:37Speaker 2: and then everybody else who was on their eurosummer if
- 40:40Speaker 2: they weren't going to the Olympics, they weren't going to Paris.
- 40:43Speaker 2: So yeah, it was one of the quietest places that
- 40:45Speaker 2: we went. And I think a lot of people also
- 40:47Speaker 2: were saying, like sometimes people say that Paris is like
- 40:50Speaker 2: underwhelming or it doesn't live up to the hype, and
- 40:53Speaker 2: I don't know, I must have different interests to these people,
- 40:55Speaker 2: because I thought it was beautiful.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I loved it. I thought it was beautiful.
- 40:59Speaker 2: But I think out of all the places we went to,
- 41:02Speaker 2: and I also think it's hard because it was the
- 41:04Speaker 2: last stop and after you start getting a bit tired,
- 41:07Speaker 2: exactly and all that stuff that I'm like, if Paris
- 41:09Speaker 2: was the first place we went to, I'd probably.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Like, yeah, but I would say that if I.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Was going to like rank everywhere we went, I would
- 41:16Speaker 2: put it Italy, Greece, London, Paris.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so literally the order that we did it literally, Like,
- 41:24Speaker 1: I do think Paris is beautiful, but I think because
- 41:28Speaker 1: I also do like hustle and bustle.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think because it was quiet, I was
- 41:31Speaker 2: like m and there was quite a bit of construction
- 41:34Speaker 2: because of the Olympics, which did take away from like
- 41:38Speaker 2: some of the magic, some of the magic of it,
- 41:40Speaker 2: I think, but like seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle and
- 41:44Speaker 2: like being able to.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Walk through like that was all beautiful. Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 2: We met a beautiful girl named Courtney. She is one
- 41:51Speaker 2: of the chicks and messaged us and was like, are
- 41:53Speaker 2: you guys coming to Paris by any chance? Like I'm
- 41:56Speaker 2: a dancer at the Mulan Rouge and would love for
- 41:58Speaker 2: you guys to come.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Like that wasn't on our itinerary, but we were like,
- 42:02Speaker 1: oh my god, of course, and then we ended up
- 42:04Speaker 1: like going out for a drink with her after and
- 42:06Speaker 1: it was like so fun like that, that's a shit
- 42:08Speaker 1: I love about holidays. Yeah, yeah, that was the best.
- 42:12Speaker 2: And then the next thing that TikTok lied to us
- 42:14Speaker 2: about was, I guess how dangerous it is in Europe
- 42:19Speaker 2: or the safety and security element of it. I think
- 42:22Speaker 2: that from both TikTok but also you know, some of
- 42:25Speaker 2: the conversations that we'd had with people beforehand, we were
- 42:28Speaker 2: expecting like.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Pickpockets left right and center.
- 42:32Speaker 2: You know, that we'd be standing on the side of
- 42:34Speaker 2: the road in London and people would be coming and
- 42:35Speaker 2: snatching our phones. I'm not saying that that doesn't happen
- 42:39Speaker 2: and that you shouldn't have your wits about you, but.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It seemed a lot more chill than we thought it
- 42:43Speaker 1: would be. Yeah, but we were like on the first.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Day where were like try it, I'm ready. Yeah.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Like every time I like put something in my bag,
- 42:50Speaker 3: I was like locking it like straight away, being like, yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 3: you're not gonna You're not gonna get me.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And like if you just.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Wore your wrist strap and it became a habit, yeah
- 43:00Speaker 2: phone like whereas like on the first day I was
- 43:03Speaker 2: putting that wrist strap on as tired as it was
- 43:05Speaker 2: going to go whereas by the end of it, I
- 43:06Speaker 2: was like she's on, She's fine. Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:09Speaker 1: And like with you know, our anti.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Theft bags, I think because we got those and we
- 43:14Speaker 2: invested in those, it gave us the peace of mind
- 43:16Speaker 2: because we'd done the right thing. Yeah, we went like
- 43:19Speaker 2: they're like holding our phone out in the middle of
- 43:21Speaker 2: the road. Yeah, just like.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Wrist strap free. Yeah, it'd be crazy. Yeah.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:28Speaker 1: A few people were.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Asking what bags and stuff that we talk We both
- 43:32Speaker 2: took the Pierre Cardon anti theft bags, so they have
- 43:36Speaker 2: like the anti slash material and then also the built
- 43:38Speaker 2: in locks into the zips. I also bought some anti
- 43:42Speaker 2: theft lock zips so that I could take like my
- 43:45Speaker 2: poppy listen and cross body bag and still.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Use a bag that I already had.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Like al said, we had wrist straps, and we also
- 43:52Speaker 2: had like cross body phone straps that we just wore
- 43:55Speaker 2: every single day. And then we also had like the
- 43:57Speaker 2: RFID wallets or SLA leaves for your cards so that
- 44:01Speaker 2: your cards.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Can't get skimmed.
- 44:03Speaker 2: And then we had air tags in like everything, so
- 44:06Speaker 2: in our luggage, in our passport, in our wallets so
- 44:09Speaker 2: and in our phone, so.
- 44:10Speaker 1: That that way you know, we had like the peace
- 44:13Speaker 1: of mind as well. I think that TikTok.
- 44:16Speaker 2: I'm saying TikTok lied to us about it, but if
- 44:18Speaker 2: anything like it made us overly cautious, which beforehand was
- 44:22Speaker 2: making me quite stressed then excited. But I think it
- 44:27Speaker 2: was a good thing in the It's a good thing
- 44:29Speaker 2: because it made us like be conscious and aware, but
- 44:32Speaker 2: it was a bad thing because we got wrapped up
- 44:36Speaker 2: and being stressed about it exactly, and then we got
- 44:38Speaker 2: there and we're like, oh, it's actually chill.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:41Speaker 2: The last thing that TikTok lied to us about was
- 44:44Speaker 2: the fairies and trains, especially the fairies. Like I thought
- 44:48Speaker 2: it was going to be like you know those the
- 44:51Speaker 2: North Sea tiktoks and it's like.
- 44:55Speaker 1: And the bone is like about to capsize. It was
- 44:59Speaker 1: not like that at all. And Alex and I and
- 45:02Speaker 1: that they were going to be so sick.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Like Alex and I do both get like motion
- 45:06Speaker 2: sick at times, and both of us were completely fine.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I feel like you couldn't feel it moving at all.
- 45:12Speaker 2: I know it's different depending on what type of ferry
- 45:15Speaker 2: that you go on.
- 45:16Speaker 1: But also one that was like a bit rocky and
- 45:19Speaker 1: that's fine. Yeah, Like I.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Don't know, I just feel like and I also thought
- 45:23Speaker 2: that you know, you see all the clips of people
- 45:25Speaker 2: like dropping off their luggage downstairs and then going upstairs,
- 45:29Speaker 2: and how it's like, you know, you feel like you're
- 45:32Speaker 2: in a group of.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Cattle, like going on to the ferry.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Why that is is because we booked the first fairy
- 45:39Speaker 2: of the day.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so if you're going.
- 45:42Speaker 2: And you're doing the fairies with the Greek islands, book
- 45:44Speaker 2: the first faerry of the day because the crowd is very,
- 45:49Speaker 2: very small compared to the middle of the day, because
- 45:51Speaker 2: that's when most other people are booking it. So we
- 45:53Speaker 2: booked for like seven am or eight am, and it
- 45:57Speaker 2: was so easy.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was quiet eye.
- 46:00Speaker 2: And then also it means that you arrive earlier in
- 46:02Speaker 2: the day so you can still enjoy and make use
- 46:05Speaker 2: of the day when you get to your next Greek island.
- 46:08Speaker 2: So that's like all the life lessons and tips and
- 46:11Speaker 2: tricks that we learned from our first broake Chicks take Europe.
- 46:16Speaker 1: There's two lessons I want to leave you with. What
- 46:19Speaker 1: it's fucking expensive.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the expense comes from the dollar exchange.
- 46:25Speaker 1: It's really it's up there that you know, keeping that
- 46:30Speaker 1: in mind, like when you are.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Paying for something, it's essentially double like what the price
- 46:35Speaker 2: is in euros or pounds. So we have a highlights
- 46:38Speaker 2: on TikTok and on Instagram of like Day in the
- 46:41Speaker 2: Life London, Day in the Life Greece, and Day in
- 46:43Speaker 2: the Life Italy of some of the more affordable things
- 46:46Speaker 2: that you can do. And we can make sure that
- 46:48Speaker 2: we upload any stories, but like maybe a list that
- 46:51Speaker 2: people can just screenshot of our recommendations because there's so
- 46:55Speaker 2: many that's so hard to fit in episode, Like there's
- 46:58Speaker 2: so many stories that we want to sell, but like
- 47:01Speaker 2: maybe we'll save that for the live show, yeah, on
- 47:04Speaker 2: the twelfth of October. But the second one is this
- 47:09Speaker 2: quote that I read that perfectly encompassed how good it
- 47:13Speaker 2: is to just travel in your twenties or any age.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And so this is what it says.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Travel with friends, travel solo, but travel as much as
- 47:22Speaker 2: you can. Explore the locations, meet people, experience cultures, different foods,
- 47:27Speaker 2: different languages.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Traveling is important.
- 47:30Speaker 2: For your growth as a person. If you stay locked
- 47:33Speaker 2: in one city, you never easily learn how much more
- 47:36Speaker 2: life has to offer. You need to open up. This
- 47:40Speaker 2: is the age to experience, you must know how peacefully
- 47:43Speaker 2: and equally wild beach life can be. You must know
- 47:46Speaker 2: how exotic a mountain life can be. These experiences are
- 47:50Speaker 2: going to stay with you for the rest of your life,
- 47:52Speaker 2: so pack your bags whenever you can and leave your
- 47:55Speaker 2: city behind.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I love them. It was just so beautiful.
- 48:02Speaker 2: And travel can be a bit intimidating, I think, and
- 48:06Speaker 2: obviously the financial situation plays a really big role in it,
- 48:10Speaker 2: but also sometimes our comfort and ability to say things
- 48:15Speaker 2: too hard also does. I want to make sure that
- 48:19Speaker 2: I'm expressing empathy to the fact that travel is expensive
- 48:22Speaker 2: and that's not always an option, but there are ways
- 48:25Speaker 2: to even just get out of your city affordably. That
- 48:28Speaker 2: doesn't have to be a big international trip, but to
- 48:31Speaker 2: experience things that are outside of your routine, to find
- 48:33Speaker 2: new things in life, to find new people, and change
- 48:37Speaker 2: like the environment that you are in, because that is
- 48:40Speaker 2: how you will learn and grow and become the most
- 48:43Speaker 2: multifaceted version of yourself. And I just, yeah, I just
- 48:48Speaker 2: love it, and I want everyone to come here with
- 48:50Speaker 2: us next year. Yeah, I think you know, it's an
- 48:54Speaker 2: amazing opportunity to create memories that you'll look back on
- 48:57Speaker 2: and remember later in life when you're thinking of like
- 49:01Speaker 2: the best moments of your life, like, there are so
- 49:03Speaker 2: many moments from Europe that I was like, that's up.
- 49:06Speaker 1: There was one of the best moments of my life.
- 49:08Speaker 2: And I feel like I cried in every single city
- 49:12Speaker 2: because in those moments, I was thinking, I am in
- 49:17Speaker 2: the golden years and the good old days right now,
- 49:21Speaker 2: and I think, why not try and grab those opportunities
- 49:24Speaker 2: as often as you can.
- 49:26Speaker 1: That's lovely and I want to go back. It was
- 49:32Speaker 1: the best. And thank you so much chicks for having
- 49:35Speaker 1: us in your ear holes. Please feel free to DM
- 49:37Speaker 1: us with any questions that you have.
- 49:39Speaker 2: We're always here to help and assist in any way
- 49:43Speaker 2: that we can. But if you are heading off to
- 49:46Speaker 2: Europe or you're heading off on a holiday, have so
- 49:50Speaker 2: much fun, have so much fun.
- 49:53Speaker 1: You can add the best time.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Honestly, I don't want to be like, don't stress,
- 49:57Speaker 2: because I know it can be stressful, but don't stress.
- 50:00Speaker 1: You'll have the best time. Honestly, I don't want to.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Say don't stress, but uh, don't stress, coming from somebody
- 50:06Speaker 2: whose stresses, Yeah, you'll have the best small stuff. Yeah, exactly,
- 50:12Speaker 2: all right, chicks, Well, thanks so much d having us
- 50:14Speaker 2: into your e hols. We love to be here and
- 50:16Speaker 2: shout out to am I k Made.
- 50:17Speaker 1: For making this episode of Two broad Chips Happen by Chicks. Bye,
