- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, welcome to the program here on thirteen hundred the Zone.
- 0:04Speaker 1: My name is Craigway. So glad to have you with
- 0:05Speaker 1: us here on a Friday. I always say it, if
- 0:08Speaker 1: Friday is the end of your work week, if it's
- 0:12Speaker 1: the advent of the weekend for you, good on you,
- 0:15Speaker 1: good for you.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hope you enjoy the weekend. For those.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Of you for whom Friday really only means the midweek
- 0:22Speaker 1: or maybe even the start of the week, hang in there,
- 0:25Speaker 1: push forward, Hope things go well for you. Glad to
- 0:28Speaker 1: have you with us. My name is Craig Way. Glad
- 0:30Speaker 1: to have you with us. Us of course includes the
- 0:33Speaker 1: producer of this program, Cameron Dee Parker. The D on
- 0:36Speaker 1: the birth certificate stands for Dallas, who after we talked
- 0:39Speaker 1: at some length about Cameron's choices and non choices for
- 0:44Speaker 1: the guy to be the next head coach of the Cowboys,
- 0:47Speaker 1: you even kind of tossed up your hands and said, hey,
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'll take Pete Carroll. Sorry, he's gone now the Raiders
- 0:53Speaker 1: have him, now.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Gone, goodbye. And that was after yesterday there was a
- 1:00Speaker 3: report that Jerry Jones did talk to Pete Carroll at
- 1:04Speaker 3: some point. Now, of course I think Jerry Jones talking
- 1:07Speaker 3: to someone is a lot differently than how other franchises talked.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great point.
- 1:13Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, I don't know what what
- 1:18Speaker 1: that would have meant it had been the case, So
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure it.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Doesn't matter now? Does it matter? Now? Tom Brady got
- 1:26Speaker 2: his head coach?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of similarities between Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll,
- 1:32Speaker 3: both over seventy both well respected head coaches, Both have
- 1:34Speaker 3: their kind of method, their programs. I think Las Vegas
- 1:38Speaker 3: this is probably the best coaching higher they've made since
- 1:42Speaker 3: I don't know, John Madden.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they've.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Had they're talking about, I mean, for all the crap
- 1:50Speaker 3: Jerry Jones gives. David's family has had some troubles with
- 1:52Speaker 3: h Yeah. I mean how many of they had? Just
- 1:56Speaker 3: let's see, you know, obviously you got Antonio, Oh Pierce
- 1:59Speaker 3: was a last head coach. You had, uh Pitt Boss,
- 2:06Speaker 3: Rich Pasaccia, John Gruden, that awful contrac who is that
- 2:10Speaker 3: coach before John Gruden?
- 2:13Speaker 1: Remember they had Bill Callahan.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, who's now with Tennessee or his sons with Tennessee.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Callahan who had been the coach at Nebraska and
- 2:25Speaker 1: got really mad when they played at Oklahoma and the
- 2:28Speaker 1: Roughnecks were shooting off their little blank guns and he
- 2:30Speaker 1: talked about pop guns and throwing frud at him when
- 2:32Speaker 1: they were throwing Orange Bowl because we're going to Orange Bowl.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Josh mc daniels was the head coach, Josh McDaniels, Jack
- 2:37Speaker 1: del Rio, Jack del Rio, Tony Sperano, Tony Sperano.
- 2:41Speaker 2: That Tony Soprano they hired Sopranos. Sperano was with the Cowboys.
- 2:45Speaker 2: She was an assistant, went.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Three nine, only coach twelve games, Dennis Allen, Hugh Jackson,
- 2:49Speaker 3: Tom Cable, Lane Kiffin. By the way, none of these coaches,
- 2:54Speaker 3: only del Rio had a well. Gruden had a winning record.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Del Rio had a winning record, Art Shell, Yeah North Turner,
- 3:01Speaker 3: Bill Callahan, he went fifteen and seventeen. Gruden, who went
- 3:05Speaker 3: thirty eight and twenty six the first time Callahan at
- 3:08Speaker 3: least won an AFC champion.
- 3:09Speaker 1: He was the coach when they won the AFC and
- 3:13Speaker 1: they played Gruden and Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl
- 3:15Speaker 1: and they had not changed any o their plays and
- 3:18Speaker 1: the signs and the signaling, and Gruden knew all of
- 3:21Speaker 1: that and it was the system that he had set up.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So Tampa Bay just wiped out the Raiders when they played.
- 3:26Speaker 3: It in the next season. Yeah, Gruden realized, wait a second,
- 3:30Speaker 3: all my plays.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and Callahan wasn't long for the NFL then, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: then he was at Nebraska and that didn't work really well,
- 3:37Speaker 1: only wound up losing his job there as well.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So yeah, you're right.
- 3:40Speaker 1: The Raiders have had their issues, just as the Cowboys
- 3:43Speaker 1: have had their issues. We had a lot to get
- 3:47Speaker 1: to today on the program. Yeah, we're gonna preview the
- 3:50Speaker 1: AFC NFC championship games. We'll talk about that. We're else
- 3:54Speaker 1: gonna hear from some coaches. Uh, We're gonna hear from Vic.
- 4:00Speaker 1: With that big win for the Texas women last night
- 4:03Speaker 1: over Tennessee, what a gut check contest. We're gonna hear
- 4:06Speaker 1: from Taylor Jones here in just a few moments, who
- 4:10Speaker 1: talk about gut checks with a bad shoulder and everything
- 4:13Speaker 1: going back out there and just out offensive rebounding. The
- 4:17Speaker 1: entire Tennessee team was Taylor Jones last night and that
- 4:20Speaker 1: eighty to seventy six win.
- 4:21Speaker 2: We're gonna hear from Taylor.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Rodney Terry on the eve of
- 4:27Speaker 1: their rematch in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown rivalry
- 4:32Speaker 1: series matchup with Texas A and M. Of course, Longhorn's
- 4:36Speaker 1: lost that first one eighty to sixty, was tied thirty
- 4:38Speaker 1: seven at the half, and then A and M grabbed
- 4:41Speaker 1: seized control of it in the second half and ended.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Up winning the game eighty to sixty.
- 4:45Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Roddy, not only from his media zoom,
- 4:48Speaker 1: but also some comments he had last night when we
- 4:51Speaker 1: do our usual matchup segment or talk about the opponent
- 4:54Speaker 1: on Longhorn Weekly, which we had last night at Pluckers
- 4:56Speaker 1: the West Campus location. So Artie, we'll get his thoughts
- 5:01Speaker 1: on the Aggies at that matchup and we'll hear from that.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And we're gonna hear from Jim Schlasnakel, Longhorn's new baseball coach.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Today is the first day for full team workouts. So
- 5:14Speaker 1: I just, I mean literally walked in spilling in just
- 5:17Speaker 1: a few minutes right before we got on the air.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I was out at the media availability with Schloss and
- 5:22Speaker 1: the other assembled media there in the dugout.
- 5:25Speaker 2: They had to get him on.
- 5:26Speaker 1: They had to use the third base dugout camp because
- 5:28Speaker 1: the first base dugout, the regular home dugout, they were
- 5:31Speaker 1: doing some work in it. There were some work being
- 5:34Speaker 1: done on it, some refurbishing or something like that. So
- 5:37Speaker 1: a lot was gathered over on that third base side,
- 5:39Speaker 1: which a long time ago was the Texas home dugout
- 5:44Speaker 1: before they flipped dougouts, before the remodeling with UFCU Dish
- 5:48Speaker 1: fark Field, and so no less than a sage writer
- 5:53Speaker 1: like Kirk Bowles now the Houston Chronicle for so many
- 5:55Speaker 1: decades at the Austin American station, I walked in and
- 5:57Speaker 1: looked around, goes, why are we in.
- 5:59Speaker 2: The third base talk?
- 6:00Speaker 1: His thought is there have been another change to slash
- 6:02Speaker 1: make this chance that they're doing work over the other one.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, So we're gonna hear from Schlass talking
- 6:08Speaker 1: about his players, his team, uh and putting it all
- 6:12Speaker 1: together and starting. So we're gonna hear from that. We
- 6:14Speaker 1: have inconceivable again. We know what inconceivable means. On Friday,
- 6:18Speaker 1: It's Friday, we go south. We were just in Florida.
- 6:22Speaker 1: We don't have any Florida man. Well, I guess actually
- 6:24Speaker 1: we probably have do have one Florida Baggage handler story,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but we go to the more flasks, the lower forty
- 6:29Speaker 1: eight states, reach for that low hanging for you.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Know, we're really going to make up for it.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Normally normally after in one, two at the most three,
- 6:38Speaker 1: but usually just one or two Florida Man stories along
- 6:40Speaker 1: with other content. But because we haven't done when's the
- 6:44Speaker 1: last time we did a Friday show right after Christmas?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Like the twenty seventh, we weren't here last last Friday, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: or Saturday. Right the friday before that, Texas was playing
- 6:56Speaker 1: in the Cotton Bowl. Yeah, and the Friday before that
- 6:58Speaker 1: we were off on January third, mm hmm.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I mean we're also in College Station.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think it might have been December twenty seventh.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So it's been almost month. So to catch up.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And I'm taking a page from Andrew Zimml's book, because
- 7:13Speaker 1: even though I've told Andrew when when when Zimble steps
- 7:17Speaker 1: in for me on the program, he loves Friday because
- 7:19Speaker 1: he loves Florida Man. And I told him, I said,
- 7:21Speaker 1: that's great, But Andrew, don't feel like the entire inconceivable
- 7:27Speaker 1: on Friday has to be Florida Man. You can mix
- 7:29Speaker 1: some other things in and then drop one in there
- 7:31Speaker 1: right like he loves to just load it up. Well,
- 7:32Speaker 1: today we're taking a page from Zimmle's book. It's all
- 7:35Speaker 1: Florida Man today because we got plenty. So so that's
- 7:39Speaker 1: we've got that coming up later this hour. And then,
- 7:42Speaker 1: like I said, we've got those other pieces and and
- 7:46Speaker 1: we're planning, I want to say, planning to visit with
- 7:50Speaker 1: Andrew Monica, play by play voice in the Aggies of
- 7:53Speaker 1: Texas A and M. He is leaving with the with
- 7:57Speaker 1: the Aggie basketball team to bus over, so he's anticipating
- 8:01Speaker 1: arriving just past four o'clock, and that being the case,
- 8:04Speaker 1: we should be able to pop him on in the
- 8:06Speaker 1: program in the four o'clock hour. So I just that's
- 8:09Speaker 1: why I say we're planning on it right now. So
- 8:12Speaker 1: there'll be a little bit of that. But big win
- 8:16Speaker 1: for the Texas women last night over Tennessee to get
- 8:20Speaker 1: to nineteen and two five and one in SEC playing
- 8:24Speaker 1: the Loghorns.
- 8:25Speaker 2: They were in a battle.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I mean early on they were down six at fourteen eight,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but then they fought back and they had a five
- 8:31Speaker 1: point lead and intermission could have been larger. Then Tennessee
- 8:34Speaker 1: fights back, they take the lead on a couple of occasions,
- 8:38Speaker 1: something by four, and then Texas fought back and got
- 8:40Speaker 1: up by five again, and then it was just back
- 8:42Speaker 1: and forth and nip and tuck all the way down
- 8:45Speaker 1: to the end, and a lot of the key figures
- 8:49Speaker 1: stepped up as usual. Rory Harmon hit two crucial free throws,
- 8:53Speaker 1: Madison Booker had what third straight game over twenty points scoring,
- 8:57Speaker 1: and then we mentioned Taylor Jones, what was a twenty
- 9:00Speaker 1: one points, nineteen rebounds things, So yeah, and did a
- 9:04Speaker 1: massive job on the morts. Had to come out of
- 9:06Speaker 1: the game for a little bit. She got banged up.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It was I think her left shoulder and they had
- 9:13Speaker 1: to do a little work on that and retape it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And she went back out there and she was just grinding.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So after the game, Roger Wallace was visiting on our
- 9:23Speaker 1: postgame show with Taylor Jones about this huge win and
- 9:26Speaker 1: her huge performance and what it meant to this basketball
- 9:32Speaker 1: team as they were able to turn it turn it
- 9:35Speaker 1: around in a game that I would say really crucial
- 9:39Speaker 1: because if you look around the SEC and you see
- 9:42Speaker 1: some of the eyebrow raising results have happened in conference play.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Texas A and m B Kentucky last night in College station.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Kentucky was unbeaten in conference play, you know, so now
- 9:53Speaker 1: when it comes to conference play, and there's a huge
- 9:56Speaker 1: game this afternoon, South Carolina and LSU and they're playing
- 10:01Speaker 1: this afternoon, I think four o'clock our time. And the
- 10:03Speaker 1: reason why they're playing at four o'clock our time this
- 10:06Speaker 1: afternoon is because ls who could not get to South
- 10:11Speaker 1: Carolina for they were going to travel on Wednesday and
- 10:16Speaker 1: then play the game last night, and that was going
- 10:20Speaker 1: to be the early game in Colombia, and then the
- 10:23Speaker 1: Texas Tennessee game was going to be the eight o'clock game.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But because LSU was unable to travel because of the
- 10:28Speaker 1: heavy snowfall in the state of Louisiana on Wednesday, they
- 10:32Speaker 1: pushed the game from Thursday to Friday, so they couldn't
- 10:35Speaker 1: play this afternoon, and that's why they moved the Texas
- 10:37Speaker 1: came up from eight o'clock to seven o'clock.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So anyway, that's the deal. All right.
- 10:41Speaker 1: We'll hear from Taylor Jones coming up, and we'll also
- 10:46Speaker 1: hear from Rodney Terry coming up a lot on in
- 10:48Speaker 1: store today here as we take a break here on
- 10:51Speaker 1: thirteen under the Zone.
- 10:57Speaker 5: It's the Craig Way Show with a voice the Texas
- 11:00Speaker 5: Longhorns in Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Way.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Here on a Friday.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Is this designed to be part of your fire me
- 11:18Speaker 1: Up Friday selection?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Here? You know? Probably not? You know, I think fired
- 11:23Speaker 2: up as we're fired up from last night. You know,
- 11:25Speaker 2: we don't there. You don't have to have music. Very good.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I'm glad to hear that.
- 11:30Speaker 6: Well.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Toward that end, here's what we were talking about, Taylor Jones,
- 11:33Speaker 1: the big effort from her or the postgame conversation with
- 11:36Speaker 1: Roger Wallace one.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Tonight for Taylor.
- 11:39Speaker 7: I don't know if you've seen the numbers, twenty one points,
- 11:41Speaker 7: fourteen rebounds, you offensive out rebound at Tennessee tonight. You
- 11:46Speaker 7: had more offensive rebounds than Tennessee.
- 11:49Speaker 8: Oho.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Just take us through what a grinder this was.
- 11:53Speaker 9: Coming into this game, we knew that it was going
- 11:54Speaker 9: to be really tough. I mean, this is a historic
- 11:57Speaker 9: program that we're playing against, and so we knew that
- 11:59Speaker 9: there they were to be well coached and they're number
- 12:02Speaker 9: one offensive team, and so that was a real point
- 12:06Speaker 9: of emphasis. And I think coming into this game, coach
- 12:09Speaker 9: Schaeffer and Blair. Schaeffer told us that getting on the obors,
- 12:13Speaker 9: we could do that, and so that was kind of
- 12:17Speaker 9: a point for me, was just to try and do
- 12:18Speaker 9: what I can on the offensive boards and just sort
- 12:21Speaker 9: of play do my job, and so yeah, that's what
- 12:24Speaker 9: I tried to do.
- 12:24Speaker 7: Great block shot, but obviously banged up the shoulder. I mean,
- 12:29Speaker 7: how tough was it to get back in there? How
- 12:31Speaker 7: you feeling?
- 12:32Speaker 9: I mean, this isn't I've played through injuries a lot
- 12:35Speaker 9: in my life, so it's nothing new. Adrenaline is a
- 12:39Speaker 9: very very fun thing in games. So I'll definitely have
- 12:42Speaker 9: to ice it afterwards and do some rehab for sure.
- 12:45Speaker 7: So all right, admit, if you hit nine field goals,
- 12:48Speaker 7: are you most proud of the one that was just
- 12:50Speaker 7: inside the three point line?
- 12:51Speaker 9: Yes, I think that may have been the closest I'll
- 12:54Speaker 9: get to a three in my college career, So I'll
- 12:56Speaker 9: take it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Well.
- 12:57Speaker 7: And I know you obviously had the big bucket down
- 12:59Speaker 7: the stretch. But Craig went for you, guys. Craig week
- 13:01Speaker 7: for you guys. Congratulations, thank you.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, she had a big effort twenty one points, fourteen rebounds.
- 13:08Speaker 1: She had more offensive rebounds than the entire Tennessee team
- 13:11Speaker 1: did accumulate throughout the course of the game, so it
- 13:15Speaker 1: was big for he end. Yes, she did get banged up,
- 13:17Speaker 1: but was able to come back in and really affect
- 13:19Speaker 1: the game.
- 13:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:20Speaker 1: So the Long Wars are now nineteen and two, they're
- 13:22Speaker 1: five and one in SEC play, and they got a
- 13:27Speaker 1: tough road assignment on Sunday in Oxford, Mississippi. It's interesting
- 13:30Speaker 1: the way the schedule has fallen. Both the Texas women
- 13:33Speaker 1: followed by the men will play in Oxford three days apart.
- 13:40Speaker 1: The women will play at the pavilion there on the
- 13:43Speaker 1: Old Miss campus Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. You can
- 13:48Speaker 1: hear it at one of three point one FM, Austin's
- 13:50Speaker 1: eighty station and also on the Texas Long Wornes Appvarsity
- 13:56Speaker 1: Network app, and I think it'll be on serious X
- 14:00Speaker 1: as well are broadcast, But anyway, it'll be Sunday afternoon,
- 14:03Speaker 1: two o'clock in Oxford. Then the men will be there
- 14:07Speaker 1: the following Wednesday, three days after that to take on
- 14:10Speaker 1: Ole Miss. The women's team is four two. Are you
- 14:13Speaker 1: going to stay in Oxford residency? I don't think so.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'll come home we've got We've got some work to
- 14:19Speaker 1: do before that. I don't think so, but I mean
- 14:23Speaker 1: I'll come home Sunday night and then turn around what
- 14:25Speaker 1: Tuesday we head back right, so to give me you
- 14:27Speaker 1: knows day.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And a half listen this day and age.
- 14:31Speaker 1: A day and a half in the office is good
- 14:33Speaker 1: to be able to get that because of all the
- 14:35Speaker 1: work that's got to be done. We've got the advent
- 14:37Speaker 1: of baseball approaching softball. Softball schedule finally got released yesterday,
- 14:42Speaker 1: so yeah, there's a lot. There's a lot to get
- 14:44Speaker 1: ready for for the coming season. So anyway, the women
- 14:48Speaker 1: will play there Sunday afternoon. The men will play there
- 14:50Speaker 1: on Wednesday. But first the men have Texas A and
- 14:54Speaker 1: M the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown rivalry series. By
- 14:57Speaker 1: the way, in case you're interested in the standings right now,
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's four and app points to one point Texas four
- 15:02Speaker 1: point five to one point zero for Texas A and M.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Walborne's head coach Rodney Terry. Yesterday in the media zoom
- 15:09Speaker 1: talking about this rematch with Texas A and.
- 15:13Speaker 10: M warton Archie two questions for You'll start with the
- 15:17Speaker 10: first one. Outside of effort, what did you see from
- 15:20Speaker 10: your team in the win over Missouri that you think
- 15:22Speaker 10: is transferable to the A and M and the rest
- 15:25Speaker 10: of the season.
- 15:26Speaker 11: Yeah, I thought again, I thought we played really hard
- 15:29Speaker 11: for forty minutes. It's one of our more complete games
- 15:31Speaker 11: on the season in terms.
- 15:33Speaker 6: Of playing that way.
- 15:35Speaker 11: I thought on both ends of the floor, I thought,
- 15:38Speaker 11: I thought we played really hard.
- 15:39Speaker 6: I mean, Missouri is a really hard team to play against.
- 15:43Speaker 11: You know, they play really hard nosed defense, switching defense,
- 15:48Speaker 11: a challenging passing lanes. They make it difficult for you
- 15:52Speaker 11: to initiate your offense. They're a really difficult team to
- 15:56Speaker 11: play against. I think the thing that translates for us
- 16:01Speaker 11: from that game that will have to have carryover with
- 16:04Speaker 11: the A and M game is competitive plays.
- 16:08Speaker 6: You know.
- 16:08Speaker 11: I thought we made a lot of competitive plays in
- 16:11Speaker 11: the game Tuesday night against Missouri. And when I say
- 16:16Speaker 11: competitive plays, you know, and it was the best I
- 16:19Speaker 11: think in the country at fifty to fifty balls. They
- 16:23Speaker 11: do a great job of out competing you to loose balls,
- 16:29Speaker 11: long rebounds, the the best at extra effort plays. I thought,
- 16:36Speaker 11: we have a lot of really good extra effort competitive
- 16:40Speaker 11: plays in the game that we'll have to try to
- 16:41Speaker 11: have on Saturday against the team that I think that
- 16:44Speaker 11: does it best in the country.
- 16:47Speaker 2: The follow up arty.
- 16:48Speaker 10: In relation to Trey, since SEC players started, he's had
- 16:52Speaker 10: to believe all all six SEC games, he's had extended
- 16:55Speaker 10: stretches in the second half where a shot isn't falling.
- 16:58Speaker 10: I'm just curious, from your perspective, do you see that
- 17:00Speaker 10: as a byproduct of how hard he's playing defensively.
- 17:03Speaker 6: I think they could be a little bit of it,
- 17:05Speaker 6: you know.
- 17:05Speaker 11: I think I think it takes time a little bit
- 17:09Speaker 11: for you know, not even just young players, older players.
- 17:12Speaker 6: Last year we had Max Aspis, and it took Max.
- 17:16Speaker 11: Middle of the conference, in the conference play to where
- 17:20Speaker 11: he exerted itself so hard on the defensive end of
- 17:22Speaker 11: the floor that he still had to have legs to
- 17:25Speaker 11: be able to make shots in big.
- 17:27Speaker 6: Moments in games. But he got to a point where he.
- 17:30Speaker 11: Could do that and he didn't take any plays off.
- 17:32Speaker 11: He played thirty five minutes a game, which is not
- 17:35Speaker 11: easy to do. The play really hard on offense and
- 17:38Speaker 11: play really hard on defense. You know, if you were
- 17:42Speaker 11: somewhere where you could take plays off and rest on
- 17:44Speaker 11: defense to.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Be easier, They're hopefully you were asleep.
- 17:47Speaker 12: But if not, did you catch any of the A
- 17:49Speaker 12: and then last said, and what were something takeaways over
- 17:52Speaker 12: over that crazy button?
- 17:54Speaker 11: You know, uh, you know, and I thought that both
- 17:57Speaker 11: teams obviously well coached, uh, both of them really hard
- 18:02Speaker 11: on those defensive teams, teams that take a lot of
- 18:04Speaker 11: pride on that end of the floor, teams that take
- 18:06Speaker 11: a lot of pride and competitive plays.
- 18:10Speaker 6: You know, I thought old.
- 18:12Speaker 11: Miss shot the ball really well last night against those
- 18:15Speaker 11: guys that Old Miss or a better part of the game,
- 18:17Speaker 11: really control the game, you know, give or take, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 11: thirty eight minutes of the game, you know, to where
- 18:23Speaker 11: they had the game in hand to win the ball game.
- 18:25Speaker 11: And again you know A and M played the game
- 18:28Speaker 11: to the bone, you know, they played it all the
- 18:30Speaker 11: way to the end and they found a way to
- 18:32Speaker 11: win the game, you know, down the stretch.
- 18:38Speaker 12: And then just a quick fall from that, if I will,
- 18:41Speaker 12: you know, even going back to y'all boss watch up
- 18:44Speaker 12: with Texas, Adam, what do you need to improve on,
- 18:48Speaker 12: especially when it comes to maybe the second half struggles.
- 18:51Speaker 11: Well, you know again, you know I think and them
- 18:56Speaker 11: again is part you know, they're the best offense rebounding
- 18:58Speaker 11: team in the country, you know, and when you play
- 19:01Speaker 11: it to you and that rebounds the ball as well
- 19:03Speaker 11: as they do, they're gonna give themselves second chance, third
- 19:07Speaker 11: chance opportunities. You may go out the first opportunity really well,
- 19:12Speaker 11: it's the second and the third one that puts you
- 19:15Speaker 11: in a bad position, you know. And I thought in
- 19:17Speaker 11: the second half of our game, they really, you know,
- 19:20Speaker 11: did a great job of attacking that glass really really hard.
- 19:24Speaker 11: I mean the first first game of in the first half,
- 19:27Speaker 11: they had three offensive rebounds, you know, and I think
- 19:31Speaker 11: they finished with double figure offensive rebounds in the second half,
- 19:33Speaker 11: So you know, it really changed the game when you're
- 19:36Speaker 11: giving them second and third chance opportunities where it makes
- 19:40Speaker 11: it very difficult.
- 19:41Speaker 6: And they're they're really good, and they they beat us
- 19:44Speaker 6: really in the in the fifty to fifty game.
- 19:45Speaker 11: They came up with every loose ball, every loan rebound,
- 19:49Speaker 11: and and again I think, you know, they're they're all
- 19:52Speaker 11: going to be the best in the country at doing that.
- 19:54Speaker 11: So you've got to be the match match their energy
- 19:57Speaker 11: and activity with those type of plays.
- 20:00Speaker 13: Well, real quick, I was gonna ask if there's been
- 20:02Speaker 13: any update of progress on Kendall Weaver. And then also
- 20:06Speaker 13: you kind of answered it with Ann Parker's question for
- 20:09Speaker 13: a team that likes to hit the offensive board so
- 20:11Speaker 13: much like the Aggies, coach, do you tweak your light
- 20:15Speaker 13: your rotation, do you get some of those young bigs
- 20:18Speaker 13: more amendments or how do you handle.
- 20:20Speaker 6: That in New Weavers.
- 20:23Speaker 11: Kenda Weaver is still a guy that's out in definitely
- 20:26Speaker 11: right now. You know. We again, we've got the best
- 20:29Speaker 11: training stamp in the country. We feel like he's at
- 20:32Speaker 11: full strength and ready to go, then we'll try to
- 20:35Speaker 11: give him an opportunity, but we're not there at the
- 20:37Speaker 11: moment uh with him and in his progress with his injury.
- 20:44Speaker 11: You know, I think Thomas, I think the guys we've
- 20:46Speaker 11: been playing right now have been doing a pretty good job.
- 20:48Speaker 11: When we got him the conference play, we had to
- 20:51Speaker 11: learn to really try to put our helmets on a
- 20:53Speaker 11: little bit. That's a physical league with guys crashing. You know,
- 20:57Speaker 11: our young guys that good young developmental players, but they're
- 20:59Speaker 11: not for these grown men that we're playing against right now.
- 21:02Speaker 11: You know, we're playing grown men right now, fifth year,
- 21:05Speaker 11: six year players right now, you know, so you know,
- 21:10Speaker 11: could they get out there and mix it up a
- 21:11Speaker 11: little bit.
- 21:13Speaker 6: You know, they could.
- 21:14Speaker 11: I'm not saying that they would be the answer, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 11: to what we're doing. I think our guys that are
- 21:19Speaker 11: out there right now fighting really hard and giving us
- 21:22Speaker 11: a great effort right now. I think kayten Cedric play
- 21:24Speaker 11: physical all year long. I think Arthur Kaluma has played
- 21:27Speaker 11: physical all year long. He's got twelve rebounds in the
- 21:30Speaker 11: last ball game against against a good Missouri team. You know,
- 21:33Speaker 11: Caden's done that, Katon had nine rebounds. You know, those
- 21:37Speaker 11: guys that played physical all year I think Z's getting
- 21:39Speaker 11: to the point where he's playing more physical. I think again,
- 21:42Speaker 11: we have to have by committee, our guards come down
- 21:45Speaker 11: and help us rebound. Kendall Weaver when he went out
- 21:47Speaker 11: in Atlanta, there was seventy seven rebounds that went out
- 21:50Speaker 11: the lineup, you know, So you know it's not solely
- 21:54Speaker 11: on our big guys. We have to rebound, rebound by
- 21:57Speaker 11: committee and the teams that do it really well, Maun
- 22:00Speaker 11: by committee.
- 22:01Speaker 6: They're not all big guys that are rebounding and him.
- 22:04Speaker 11: Wing guys are great rebounders, you know, So you know
- 22:08Speaker 11: we've got to keep those guys off the glass as well.
- 22:11Speaker 13: Hey, coach.
- 22:12Speaker 14: You know, Julian Larry made a big difference for you
- 22:14Speaker 14: guys last night as far as when he was on
- 22:16Speaker 14: the court versus not on the court. Obviously, he's the
- 22:19Speaker 14: guy that you know, comes from the Missouri Valley who
- 22:21Speaker 14: has been an adjustment. But at this point, I guess,
- 22:23Speaker 14: what are you seeing from him and what would you
- 22:25Speaker 14: like to see from him moving forward?
- 22:28Speaker 11: I think Julius played his role really well for us
- 22:30Speaker 11: over the last you know, give or take five ball games.
- 22:32Speaker 11: You know, he comes in and he's a guy that
- 22:36Speaker 11: gives us energy off the bench. He's a guy that
- 22:38Speaker 11: comes in, initiates the offense, plays with really good defensive intensity. Uh.
- 22:43Speaker 6: He's a guy that has has gotten.
- 22:45Speaker 11: Better as the season's going along, reading pick and roll
- 22:48Speaker 11: and and uh and just really described in the basketball
- 22:51Speaker 11: and sharing the basketball. He comes in and really gets
- 22:54Speaker 11: the ball movie when he when he enters the game. So, uh,
- 22:58Speaker 11: those those are some things I think that that that
- 23:00Speaker 11: Union brings to the game when he comes in.
- 23:03Speaker 15: Hey, coach, with so many new transfers, fighting an offensive
- 23:06Speaker 15: for rhythm tends to take time. Do you feel after
- 23:08Speaker 15: the Missouri win that that was the first steps in
- 23:10Speaker 15: which the offense was clicking more in terms of ball
- 23:12Speaker 15: movement or is that still a point of emphasis right now?
- 23:15Speaker 11: I think on the offense for us, we tried, we've
- 23:18Speaker 11: tried to have a point five mentality all year loan,
- 23:20Speaker 11: you know, engaged to hit the open guy, make the
- 23:22Speaker 11: simple play, get the ball moving.
- 23:24Speaker 6: You know, in the perfect world, you want to have
- 23:26Speaker 6: great space.
- 23:26Speaker 11: And then move the ball side to side, and and
- 23:29Speaker 11: and try to do that trust your teammates, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 11: and and not try to get sped up. I think, uh,
- 23:37Speaker 11: I think for us, we really tried to hold in
- 23:39Speaker 11: on identity. You win in this league with really good
- 23:41Speaker 11: defense and rebounding and taking care of the ball, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 11: so you know, offensively, you have to figure it out
- 23:48Speaker 11: from gaining the game in game what's working best for
- 23:52Speaker 11: you in terms of how you're attacking the different defenses,
- 23:54Speaker 11: because the different defenses in this league are really good,
- 23:57Speaker 11: and you got older players that then again coached really well.
- 24:01Speaker 6: So it's not easy as cordlessly, you know, so.
- 24:05Speaker 11: You got to you gotta, you know, you gotta value
- 24:07Speaker 11: taking care of the basketball, value taking shots on your terms,
- 24:12Speaker 11: trying to have the full balance where you don't put
- 24:14Speaker 11: your deep defense in a compromising position on the other
- 24:18Speaker 11: end of the.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Four some thoughts from Rodney Terry there the longhornon said coach,
- 24:22Speaker 1: we'll hear more from our team, not only from that
- 24:24Speaker 1: media availability next hour, but also in the four o'clock hour,
- 24:28Speaker 1: we'll hear Rodney from last night's edition of Longhorn Weekly,
- 24:31Speaker 1: dialing in specifically on Texas A and M and tomorrow
- 24:35Speaker 1: afternoon's matchup with the Aggies one o'clock airtime, one thirty
- 24:40Speaker 1: tip off here on the Zone, Tomorrow afternoon up next
- 24:43Speaker 1: Inconceivable for A Florida, and Friday here on AM thirteen
- 24:47Speaker 1: under the Zone. Craig Way, Cameron Parker, the producer, alongside
- 24:51Speaker 1: with you here on this Friday, getting ready for the weekend,
- 24:55Speaker 1: which includes basketball for both the Texas men and women.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Longhorn Men in action tomorrow afternoon at home at Moody Center,
- 25:05Speaker 1: one thirty tip off against Texas A and M. Cotton
- 25:09Speaker 1: Holdings Lone Star Showdown rivalry series. Aggie's won the first
- 25:12Speaker 1: meeting at the three weeks ago tomorrow. It was January fourth,
- 25:16Speaker 1: they won in College station that opened the first part
- 25:21Speaker 1: of conference play for Texas As. They fell in their
- 25:24Speaker 1: sec opener eighty to sixty. So the rematch is tomorrow.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Rodney Terry on that coming up
- 25:30Speaker 1: in a few minutes. Texas Women will play Sunday in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Seventh ranked Longhorns defeed the number seventeen Tennessee last night.
- 25:37Speaker 1: What a ballgame, eighty seventy six. Just Hammer and Tom
- 25:41Speaker 1: back and forth between those two, and the Longhorns were
- 25:44Speaker 1: able to score the game's final four points to get
- 25:47Speaker 1: a four point victory. After the game, head coach Vick
- 25:50Speaker 1: Schaeffer visiting with Roger Wallace about the Texas victory.
- 25:53Speaker 7: Your reaction, you haven't had a game like this at home,
- 25:58Speaker 7: you know, a tight ballgame. Your reaction after that buzzer
- 26:01Speaker 7: sound had set it all on the sideline, You're pretty pumped.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look y'all, this is not was not
- 26:06Speaker 2: our best night.
- 26:07Speaker 16: We made plenty of mistakes. Proud to that kid right there,
- 26:14Speaker 16: Leam Moore playing on one leg. We just had you know,
- 26:17Speaker 16: I told him it's gonna be a game of one possession.
- 26:20Speaker 16: We had so many one possessions. We just didn't do
- 26:23Speaker 16: a good job and just really it wasn't our best night,
- 26:29Speaker 16: and when you can win be the top fifteen team
- 26:32Speaker 16: on your not best night, I guess you're okay. Booker
- 26:35Speaker 16: made some big shots and Leah Moore made some big
- 26:37Speaker 16: shots down the stretch. Tell you we did execute down
- 26:40Speaker 16: the stretch. We executed some good stuff and then we
- 26:43Speaker 16: just found enough stops. I mean, that team is shoot
- 26:48Speaker 16: coach Arson. That looks like the old Tennessee teams with
- 26:52Speaker 16: that length and how tall they are and the skill set.
- 26:55Speaker 16: I mean, good night, they just they're a loaded vicky.
- 27:00Speaker 7: You guys start the fourth one for ten to close
- 27:03Speaker 7: it four for five on.
- 27:05Speaker 2: The biggest possessions of the ball game.
- 27:07Speaker 17: What does that say about your team?
- 27:08Speaker 7: Well, again, I told Booker, I'm coming to you till
- 27:11Speaker 7: Gabriel blows his horn. I mean, I don't care how
- 27:13Speaker 7: many you miss, I'm coming to you. We're gonna get
- 27:16Speaker 7: some good looks.
- 27:17Speaker 16: I did go to Amo some because I really thought
- 27:19Speaker 16: we had an advantage there. On the post up, Taylor
- 27:22Speaker 16: had a couple of big stick backs, you know, offensive boards.
- 27:25Speaker 16: Tell you we were worried about their offensive rebounding.
- 27:28Speaker 2: We got them.
- 27:28Speaker 7: Taylor, how had more offensive rebounds than he did.
- 27:31Speaker 16: Yeah, and so I was proud of our effort there
- 27:33Speaker 16: and what we were able to do. Of course, Rory
- 27:35Speaker 16: stepping up making two free throws makes life a whole
- 27:38Speaker 16: lot easier, you know, to finish that last three seconds.
- 27:41Speaker 2: So I'm proud of them, y'all. It just it was
- 27:44Speaker 2: not our.
- 27:44Speaker 16: Best night, and yet we still found a way to
- 27:47Speaker 16: compete and win and beat a really good team.
- 27:49Speaker 2: That team's gonna win a lot of games.
- 27:51Speaker 7: And your guards had to go ninety four feet every
- 27:54Speaker 7: time down. I mean they left the tank empty. Yeah,
- 27:57Speaker 7: I'm sure it's empty. I'm sure I'll have to do
- 28:00Speaker 7: really careful with them tomorrow.
- 28:01Speaker 16: And you know, we got to go on the road
- 28:03Speaker 16: and play a really good Old Miss team on Sunday, so.
- 28:07Speaker 2: You know, that's for another day. I'm proud of them.
- 28:09Speaker 16: I'm happy for him, and again that's a that's a
- 28:12Speaker 16: good win against a really good team.
- 28:14Speaker 7: Yeah, and a great response Monday. You guys were so good.
- 28:17Speaker 7: Made it look easy. You knew tonight wasn't good to
- 28:19Speaker 7: look easy, but your kids obviously were locked in even.
- 28:23Speaker 17: After a thirty eight point win on Monday.
- 28:25Speaker 16: Yeah, you know I was this morning. How we started
- 28:27Speaker 16: got down in ain't seven nothing? Seven to two, and
- 28:30Speaker 16: it happened to just the second half to we started
- 28:32Speaker 16: the same way that you know, again it's this is dealing.
- 28:37Speaker 2: You know, this is kids, and this is competition.
- 28:40Speaker 16: And again not our best night. I got so many
- 28:44Speaker 16: things to pick on, and yet we found a way
- 28:47Speaker 16: to win. We executed down the stretch. You know, I
- 28:50Speaker 16: told them with four whatever the media was at four
- 28:53Speaker 16: and a half, I'm like, I told him, I go.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Y'all, like I love this crap, Like.
- 28:58Speaker 16: This is this is what I love man in the
- 29:00Speaker 16: games tide, this is what we this is what we do, man.
- 29:03Speaker 2: And so you just gotta, you know, you gotta find
- 29:07Speaker 2: a way.
- 29:07Speaker 16: You gotta fight. You gotta the execution when you're tired.
- 29:11Speaker 16: When they were tired, I thought was really big and
- 29:14Speaker 16: I thought we we did some ran some good stuff
- 29:16Speaker 16: late and again kids.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Okay, I guess that was it there. It was at
- 29:27Speaker 2: the tail end of the interview.
- 29:29Speaker 1: There about the only thing we missed with him saying
- 29:32Speaker 1: praise the Lord and hooking horns, which is how Vic
- 29:35Speaker 1: concludes his postgame conversations with us, and for that matters
- 29:40Speaker 1: pregame conversations with us when we do that.
- 29:43Speaker 2: So obviously he was pleased.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I was struck by the fact that he mentioned he
- 29:48Speaker 1: goes it was not our best night, And I understand
- 29:52Speaker 1: what he means by that. For folks who are going
- 29:54Speaker 1: a minute, you know, they they beat the number seventeen
- 29:57Speaker 1: team in the country, A really good teams up in
- 30:00Speaker 1: down the floor and presses you and forces you into turnovers.
- 30:04Speaker 1: And he's referring to some of that. He wants his
- 30:06Speaker 1: team to take better care of the basketball. But I
- 30:08Speaker 1: will submit to you that they will probably not face
- 30:11Speaker 1: a team that will put more pressure on the ball
- 30:15Speaker 1: like Tennessee, and that includes South Carolina maybe LSU, But
- 30:19Speaker 1: LSU and South Carolina are constructed differently, and I saw
- 30:22Speaker 1: it firsthand with South Carolina and they play LSU today.
- 30:26Speaker 1: LSU has its big players inside, but they won't press
- 30:31Speaker 1: in waves like Tennessee did, where they would just it
- 30:35Speaker 1: was like I heard Roger made reference to it on
- 30:37Speaker 1: the broadcast when I was driving home from Pluckers as
- 30:40Speaker 1: hockey lines, they'll swap out five and bring five more in.
- 30:43Speaker 1: It was kind of like the immortal Dean Smith used
- 30:46Speaker 1: to do in North Carolina with what he called his
- 30:48Speaker 1: Blue team and would sub in five guys so Normally
- 30:52Speaker 1: when coach Smith did that, it was because he wasn't
- 30:54Speaker 1: really happy with what he was seeing out of his
- 30:55Speaker 1: starting five. But in Tennessee's case, they would swap out
- 30:59Speaker 1: five so they can maintain that relentless press and relentless
- 31:04Speaker 1: pressure on the basketball. So there's some thoughts on that,
- 31:08Speaker 1: all right. Coming up next, we'll shift it a little
- 31:12Speaker 1: bit to baseball. We're gonna hear from Loggorn's head coach
- 31:15Speaker 1: Chim Schlasnigle on today's first day of full team workout
- 31:20Speaker 1: practice over at UFCU dish fald Field. That's next when
- 31:22Speaker 1: we continue here on Sports Radio AM thirteen Under the
- 31:25Speaker 1: Zone here on a Friday afternoon on the program, I'm
- 32:00Speaker 1: on thirteenth under the Zone, Craig Way alongside the producer
- 32:02Speaker 1: Cameron Parker.
- 32:03Speaker 2: We just heard from Vic Schaffer.
- 32:05Speaker 1: You've heard a little bit from Rodney Terry lash How
- 32:06Speaker 1: We're going to hear more from the long worn men's
- 32:09Speaker 1: basketball coach coming up a little bit later on this hour.
- 32:12Speaker 1: But we are twenty one days away, three weeks from
- 32:19Speaker 1: the start of the twenty twenty five Texas Longhorn baseball season.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Longhorn's open play at the Shriners Classic in Arlington where
- 32:30Speaker 1: they're going to play on successive nights Louisville Ole Miss
- 32:36Speaker 1: in Oklahoma State. Now the Old Miss game. For those
- 32:38Speaker 1: who know, why are they playing a conference? Ole Miss
- 32:41Speaker 1: is not on the conference schedule this year. You don't
- 32:43Speaker 1: play everybody in baseball on your conference slate, so it
- 32:48Speaker 1: works as a non conference game because it's they do
- 32:51Speaker 1: not have ole Miss on their conference schedule. So that'll
- 32:55Speaker 1: be Valentine's Day the fourteenth of February, then the fifteenth
- 32:58Speaker 1: and the sixteenth, and they'll start with Louisville on that
- 33:02Speaker 1: So today was the first day for Long Worn players,
- 33:07Speaker 1: especially the pitchers and catchers, just started to get acclimated
- 33:11Speaker 1: to things and to new head coach Jim Schlastangle. Of
- 33:14Speaker 1: course they had the fall workouts, but this first time
- 33:18Speaker 1: for the season to come. Twenty twenty five practices and
- 33:24Speaker 1: the first full team practice day. So coach Slass met
- 33:27Speaker 1: with the medium, had opportunity to sit down and hear
- 33:32Speaker 1: from him. So this is the media session that we
- 33:35Speaker 1: had just a little while ago, right before the show
- 33:38Speaker 1: started with Long Worn's brand new head baseball coach, Jim Schlastangle.
- 33:43Speaker 8: Yeah, super excited for the day first day of practice,
- 33:47Speaker 8: got a great weather day, which is always you know,
- 33:49Speaker 8: two thirds of the battle when you're a college coach
- 33:51Speaker 8: and three weeks away from playing. So next year the
- 33:56Speaker 8: rules change where we get more practice time, and it's
- 33:58Speaker 8: always an anxiome time for a coach when you're you
- 34:01Speaker 8: haven't played an inter squad game yet and you have
- 34:03Speaker 8: a game in three weeks.
- 34:04Speaker 4: So, uh, we're excited to get going today.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Did you approach this first day like you've approached first
- 34:11Speaker 1: days at other places?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Oh?
- 34:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. It's all about getting your pitchers ready. You know.
- 34:16Speaker 8: Max Wiener, our pitching coach, has had them on a
- 34:19Speaker 8: twelve week build up plan to be able to you know, throw,
- 34:22Speaker 8: you know, the potential potential starters throw a couple of inches
- 34:26Speaker 8: today and then we'll gradually build them up. So it's
- 34:28Speaker 8: all everything is about having the pitching ready, trying to
- 34:30Speaker 8: figure that out. The position players, you know, those guys,
- 34:33Speaker 8: especially at this age, they need two or three weeks
- 34:36Speaker 8: of work and then they're ready to go. So I'm
- 34:38Speaker 8: sure you know, uh, we're just getting started today, but
- 34:43Speaker 8: in two weeks, everybody would be tired of looking at
- 34:45Speaker 8: each other and we'll be ready to play somebody else.
- 34:47Speaker 18: As you've gathered more intel this team and everybody through
- 34:51Speaker 18: the fall and everything, what's.
- 34:52Speaker 19: Something that excites you by this kind of group's potential here.
- 34:55Speaker 8: Yeah, the the makeup of the older players is uh
- 34:59Speaker 8: is awesome, Rylean Galvan Schustler, Max Blue, uh dre To Plantier,
- 35:06Speaker 8: Jalen Flores, Uh, and there's more.
- 35:08Speaker 4: But these guys are They're super hungry.
- 35:10Speaker 8: They want to you know, whenever they leave Texas, they
- 35:13Speaker 8: want to leave it, whether it be graduation, in the draft,
- 35:15Speaker 8: you know, they want to leave it on a high note.
- 35:17Speaker 8: They understand what the standard is. And so just an
- 35:20Speaker 8: awesome core group. That's Coach Pierce did an awesome job
- 35:23Speaker 8: having those guys ready and having them here is very
- 35:27Speaker 8: similar to my first team or a first team at
- 35:30Speaker 8: a M very very similar.
- 35:32Speaker 4: Uh.
- 35:32Speaker 8: Some kids that you know, they hadn't had a great
- 35:34Speaker 8: year of the year before, but you know, kind of
- 35:37Speaker 8: that new coach honeymoon period, super hungry and uh, you
- 35:41Speaker 8: know that team turned out pretty pretty solid year, so
- 35:44Speaker 8: you know, uh, praying for that.
- 35:46Speaker 18: Just to pick back off of Craig's question, what's the
- 35:49Speaker 18: thought process over the next four weeks as he kind
- 35:51Speaker 18: of tried and set the rotation and.
- 35:52Speaker 8: Take a look at the gut stat I'm a firm
- 35:55Speaker 8: believer that player that players right the lineup.
- 35:57Speaker 4: You know, I've never written a lineup.
- 35:59Speaker 8: The player right the line up by how they practice,
- 36:01Speaker 8: how they perform in the practice, how they perform in
- 36:05Speaker 8: the games.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Certainly, you know, guys who have track record.
- 36:08Speaker 8: You're going to give them the benefit of the doubt,
- 36:11Speaker 8: Guys like Flores and Max, you know, Kimball Ryland. I
- 36:14Speaker 8: just need those guys to be ready, right the best
- 36:17Speaker 8: ability is availability. I need those guys to be healthy
- 36:20Speaker 8: and ready to go. And then there's other guys that
- 36:21Speaker 8: are trying to win jobs.
- 36:22Speaker 4: So it's getting the pitching ready.
- 36:24Speaker 8: And then there's some team things, you know, team defensive
- 36:28Speaker 8: type stuff that we have to get put in. But
- 36:31Speaker 8: for the most part, you know, we had a good fall.
- 36:33Speaker 8: The guys know how we want to play, and we
- 36:36Speaker 8: just need to get repetition, need to get at bats.
- 36:38Speaker 4: You know, we don't get spring training games.
- 36:40Speaker 8: So between the intersquad games and then next week's alumni game,
- 36:44Speaker 8: that's our preparation.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Then we got to go. You mentioned pitching a couple
- 36:47Speaker 4: of times.
- 36:47Speaker 12: Now, who has started to kind of catch your eyes,
- 36:50Speaker 12: especially as you're looking to form that starting rotation.
- 36:53Speaker 8: Yeah, I think Jared Spencer, you know, he's certainly going
- 36:55Speaker 8: to be a part of it.
- 36:56Speaker 4: I would have to think. He's ultra talented guy.
- 36:59Speaker 8: Transfer has been a kind of I think he's only
- 37:02Speaker 8: had nine starts in his career, so it's a big
- 37:04Speaker 8: jump to go from him and we're having nine starts
- 37:06Speaker 8: in your career to potentially, you know, pitching on the
- 37:08Speaker 8: weekends in the SEC. But he's capable of that. I
- 37:11Speaker 8: think Luke Harrison is, he's a strike thrower. Max has
- 37:16Speaker 8: done some really good things with him. I gotta think
- 37:18Speaker 8: he would be a part of that. After that, I
- 37:20Speaker 8: don't know. There's there's some really good competition going on
- 37:23Speaker 8: and we just have to see we we don't stretch
- 37:25Speaker 8: guys out in the fall to throw more than two innings,
- 37:28Speaker 8: and so nobody has on this campus since since we've
- 37:32Speaker 8: been here, has thrown more than two innings. So we
- 37:34Speaker 8: got to see who can handle that, you know, up
- 37:36Speaker 8: to like sixty seventy pitches. We have a group of
- 37:39Speaker 8: probably six or seven that will stretch out like that,
- 37:41Speaker 8: and the rest of them relievers.
- 37:43Speaker 20: They're as excited as you are to finally get this
- 37:45Speaker 20: going right, what do you You can't You can't win
- 37:50Speaker 20: the national championship on day one, right, So do you
- 37:53Speaker 20: have to slow things down, like, hey, we cannot cut corners,
- 37:57Speaker 20: just make sure we're doing all the right steps.
- 37:58Speaker 17: Do you have to tell the guys that.
- 38:01Speaker 8: I mean, I mean that you're what you're talking about
- 38:04Speaker 8: the culture you know? And then and I and I
- 38:05Speaker 8: think you are. You are making you are playing for
- 38:08Speaker 8: a national title. You're playing for it every day by
- 38:10Speaker 8: the decisions you make, and that your decisions and your
- 38:13Speaker 8: choices are gonna dictate your behavior, and behavior is gonna
- 38:16Speaker 8: really likely to dictate the results. And you can't control
- 38:19Speaker 8: the results, but you can't control your behavior. So you know,
- 38:22Speaker 8: that's that's one thing I'm really confident in with this group.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Now.
- 38:26Speaker 8: The thing that changes that is the first time I
- 38:28Speaker 8: post a lineup, right, and the first time I post
- 38:31Speaker 8: a travel squad. And so how what defines a team
- 38:34Speaker 8: besides the health of the team is how does the
- 38:36Speaker 8: team handle adversity, whether it be the adversity within the team.
- 38:40Speaker 8: Right when I post the lineup today, everybody gets to play,
- 38:43Speaker 8: you know, it's like Little League. But then when we
- 38:46Speaker 8: only only nine nine ten guys get to play the
- 38:48Speaker 8: first game.
- 38:49Speaker 4: So how does everybody handle that?
- 38:51Speaker 8: You know, the ups and downs of the season, the winning, losing,
- 38:54Speaker 8: the tough, tough losses, tough tough streak. I'd like to
- 38:58Speaker 8: think we're gonna win them all, but probably not gonna happen.
- 39:00Speaker 8: So that's what that's what's going to define every good team.
- 39:04Speaker 17: Jim Worg is max for them with the pitching. And
- 39:07Speaker 17: where's a sad as he kind of comes back from
- 39:09Speaker 17: when he.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Was doing mush Yeah, aces of ways off.
- 39:14Speaker 8: Yeah, he's got a lot of things to work through
- 39:16Speaker 8: health wise to to be able to help us. Uh
- 39:18Speaker 8: so he he'll be down. We're still getting trying to
- 39:21Speaker 8: get some answers on him. He had a tough surgery.
- 39:24Speaker 8: Uh the surgery didn't happen until later in the summer, sure,
- 39:27Speaker 8: which it could have happened a lot earlier. So you know,
- 39:30Speaker 8: he'll be he'll be a part of that's just not
- 39:33Speaker 8: sure what it's gonna look like at the moment. But
- 39:35Speaker 8: talking about Max Wiener, Grubs, Max Grubs, Okay, yeah, Grubs,
- 39:39Speaker 8: Grubs is doing pretty well. You know, he had some
- 39:42Speaker 8: shoulder issues. He had to get through and he's coming
- 39:45Speaker 8: out of it pretty well. He's thrown a lot of strikes,
- 39:47Speaker 8: but this week gonna be the first time I've seen
- 39:49Speaker 8: him pitch, you know, on this field, because he didn't
- 39:52Speaker 8: he didn't pitch at all during the fall, so, uh,
- 39:55Speaker 8: you know, he's such competitor. He throws strikes, which obviously
- 39:58Speaker 8: any coach values, so I would imagine he'll be a
- 40:01Speaker 8: part of it, but he's he's behind the other guys
- 40:03Speaker 8: you brought up.
- 40:04Speaker 1: When does your staff, in your staff in the places
- 40:08Speaker 1: you've been also need ramp up time, just like you
- 40:11Speaker 1: as coach is just getting used to getting used to
- 40:13Speaker 1: your guys everything and obviously the way you do things
- 40:16Speaker 1: and they know how you do things, But how it relates.
- 40:18Speaker 8: To here, Yeah, I think I think Max, Nolan, Chuck
- 40:22Speaker 8: and I think the four of us you know that
- 40:24Speaker 8: came over here together. You know, we're solid, Troy Garrett,
- 40:31Speaker 8: Garrett Moziello, who's part of us, Chuck Box. I mean
- 40:35Speaker 8: that those guys know. It's more of been myself and
- 40:38Speaker 8: Troy honestly, just and it's been awesome, you know, him
- 40:42Speaker 8: getting an idea of how we like to do things,
- 40:44Speaker 8: and I think it's really in tune with who he
- 40:46Speaker 8: is and his discipline, his competitiveness, how what he believes
- 40:50Speaker 8: in terms of offensive baseball, and so I'm super excited
- 40:54Speaker 8: about it. He's a big believer in the mental game,
- 40:56Speaker 8: which I am. Like Coach Gurrito, it's a It's a
- 41:00Speaker 8: huge part of what we do. And frankly, I've never
- 41:03Speaker 8: had a hitting coach. I've had some good ones, but
- 41:05Speaker 8: I've never had one that is as bought into the
- 41:08Speaker 8: mental game as Troy is. And that aligns well with me.
- 41:12Speaker 8: So we're speaking the same language all the time. I'm
- 41:14Speaker 8: really excited about our staff.
- 41:15Speaker 19: So, coach, would you say that as your key ingredients,
- 41:18Speaker 19: I mean, you have a history of winning, you have
- 41:19Speaker 19: a history of being in omah is the mental game.
- 41:22Speaker 17: The difference is that your secret sauce and taking games there?
- 41:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean good players and bounce to the ball. Yeah.
- 41:30Speaker 8: I heard coach Savans say I'm never in his podcast
- 41:32Speaker 8: here they never never coached a bad player and being
- 41:34Speaker 8: a good player.
- 41:35Speaker 4: So that's the first thing.
- 41:36Speaker 8: But yeah, I'm just a big believer that it all
- 41:40Speaker 8: starts with that. You can't be in control of your
- 41:41Speaker 8: performance and tune your control of yourself and so that
- 41:44Speaker 8: is mental skills are like physical skills. Those can be
- 41:47Speaker 8: practiced every single day. They can be practiced every day,
- 41:50Speaker 8: so that when we get to those moments, right, whether
- 41:53Speaker 8: it be Friday night, first SEC Series at Mississippi State,
- 41:57Speaker 8: if it's good weather, there's going to be fifteen, sixteen,
- 41:59Speaker 8: eighteen thousand people there, you just go have it at
- 42:01Speaker 8: that and you and you trust those skills, and so
- 42:04Speaker 8: when you have those moments, you just do what you
- 42:06Speaker 8: do and then that's all you can control anyway. So
- 42:09Speaker 8: and at bat here in the today, and at bat
- 42:12Speaker 8: at Mississippi State and at bat in Omaha, it's just
- 42:14Speaker 8: an at bat. But sometimes players make it more than
- 42:17Speaker 8: what it is. And so if you train for that,
- 42:20Speaker 8: I do believe it's a difference maker.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Otherwise I wouldn't do it.
- 42:24Speaker 1: That's the first part of the media conversation with Jim Schlosnakel,
- 42:28Speaker 1: the long Ones Head coach, and you heard him talking
- 42:33Speaker 1: about ramping everybody up and getting pitching up. You heard him,
- 42:36Speaker 1: unfortunately mention it, you know, with Ace Whitehead with regard
- 42:39Speaker 1: to his surgery and the timetable in definite right now
- 42:42Speaker 1: when he might be back, but he likes a lot
- 42:45Speaker 1: of a lot of the guys. One one guy that
- 42:48Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear uh is completely healed and thrown
- 42:52Speaker 1: wells Luke Harrison, because when he's healthy he shows some
- 42:55Speaker 1: really good things. But obviously he has battled injuries each
- 43:00Speaker 1: of his first couple of seasons, so it's good to
- 43:01Speaker 1: hear that he's playing. And Schloss quite impressed with the
- 43:05Speaker 1: long worn veterans like Max Belou and Jalen Flores, you know,
- 43:10Speaker 1: a couple of real veterans afterwards. So anyway, it was,
- 43:15Speaker 1: you know, all of that was was good stuff from
- 43:18Speaker 1: coach Lass. All right, coming up, we're gonna hear more
- 43:23Speaker 1: from Rodney Terry and in and just down the road
- 43:29Speaker 1: a little bit. We'll hear also from Jordan Pope, the
- 43:33Speaker 1: long orange point guard as well as they get ready
- 43:36Speaker 1: for this matchup with Texas A and really important because
- 43:38Speaker 1: if the Longhorns're able to, you know, get a victory there,
- 43:42Speaker 1: get it to three and FOURIGN conference play, you start
- 43:46Speaker 1: then stacking wins of a ranked opponents, which is really
- 43:50Speaker 1: good for NCAA tournament profile to make sure you land
- 43:54Speaker 1: in the field of sixty eight. So we'll hear more
- 43:58Speaker 1: from RT coming up from Jordan Pope in a little
- 44:01Speaker 1: lot more from Jim Schloasnagel we'll do that, and Andrew
- 44:05Speaker 1: Monica play by play Voice of the Texas A and
- 44:07Speaker 1: m Aggie's that's all still to come here, you might say,
- 44:10Speaker 1: second half of the program, since we're right out about
- 44:14Speaker 1: halfway through our three hour tour each weekday afternoon Monday
- 44:18Speaker 1: through Friday. Right here on thirteen hunder the Zone.
- 44:26Speaker 6: We're back.
- 44:27Speaker 5: It's The craig Way Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster
- 44:30Speaker 5: in Voice of the Texas Longhards Craig Way.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Friday afternoon.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Here on the program, Greig Way and the producer Cameron
- 44:47Speaker 1: Parker getting ready for this weekend. Before we get to
- 44:53Speaker 1: her into Rodney Taylor, let's get it on the record
- 44:56Speaker 1: from you your predictions here on this because we have
- 44:59Speaker 1: three vampire predictions yet again, because both of us had
- 45:02Speaker 1: the Lions going to the Super Bowl.
- 45:04Speaker 2: I remember I've changed the Eagles.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Remember we did this before the playoffs and I said
- 45:08Speaker 3: Eagles and Chiefs.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Did you really did? I didn't remember that. I remembered
- 45:13Speaker 1: you saying Lions.
- 45:13Speaker 3: And Chiefs and then asked can I change it? And
- 45:16Speaker 3: you said you obliged. Yeah, Chiefs, Eagles, I'll go back
- 45:19Speaker 3: and find find it, Craig, you want, Okay, I don't know.
- 45:23Speaker 2: I believe you. I believe you. So now you're going
- 45:25Speaker 2: to stick with Eagles and Chiefs? Yes, yeah, I have to.
- 45:27Speaker 2: I have to.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Unfortunately, well on the Eagle side. Unfortunately for the Chiefs.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I love it.
- 45:35Speaker 3: But judging based off some of the texts we've gotten
- 45:38Speaker 3: on our text line and comments on our stream, people
- 45:42Speaker 3: people don't like Mahomes.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Yeah, there's and and I'm really kind of.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I don't know, fascinated is the right word, but I'm
- 45:53Speaker 1: intrigued by the level of the disdain that a lot
- 46:01Speaker 1: of folks have for Patrick Mahomes. Some in these parts
- 46:04Speaker 1: is because a memory played a Texas tag, some think,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and I think this is a large measure. A lot
- 46:12Speaker 1: of folks feel that he is given the benefit of
- 46:16Speaker 1: every doubt on every call by the officials, to the
- 46:21Speaker 1: extent that it's been unfortunate.
- 46:27Speaker 2: And some will tell you unfair. They think it's unfair
- 46:32Speaker 2: that they.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Haven't they haven't gotten uh uh you know that that
- 46:38Speaker 1: their opponents have have not been given the benefit of
- 46:41Speaker 1: the doubt on that and that and that. You know,
- 46:44Speaker 1: we've all seen the memes about, you know, the the
- 46:50Speaker 1: officials wearing red uniforms and Roger Goodell and all that
- 46:56Speaker 1: sort of stuff. We've seen that. So yeah, there's a lot.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Like somebody said, if you're going if you aren't going
- 47:03Speaker 1: to acknowledge this was this morning. Somebody said this to
- 47:08Speaker 1: Hardball hard and Mark Henry, if you aren't going to
- 47:11Speaker 1: acknowledge how many times my homes is handed a new
- 47:13Speaker 1: set of downs for BS calls, you aren't having a
- 47:15Speaker 1: serious conversation. So somebody that's, like you said, is not happening.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Somebody else asked about the number, saying the number one
- 47:24Speaker 1: album they had when they were born was nineteen eighty
- 47:27Speaker 1: two John Cougar's American Fool, a number one album when
- 47:30Speaker 1: I graduated high school? What's our MANCB? May twenty seven,
- 47:34Speaker 1: two thousand, in sync?
- 47:36Speaker 2: No streams? I kind of filling. CB's a big in
- 47:39Speaker 2: sync fan. Yeah, I wonder about that.
- 47:42Speaker 1: He also said, speaking of the Mavericks and the Thunders,
- 47:44Speaker 1: and I did well.
- 47:45Speaker 2: I saw this on Twitter this morning.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Did you see the clown do the horns down after
- 47:50Speaker 1: hitting the half court shot to win money? Dude won
- 47:53Speaker 1: twenty thousand dollars. He had a half court shot, and
- 47:57Speaker 1: then he turned around and with horns down after.
- 48:03Speaker 2: It's funny, this happens at okay See. Every year someone
- 48:07Speaker 2: hits a half court shot. It happens. It's been happening
- 48:10Speaker 2: since the Katie Russ era.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Really, and like someone on Twitter, Nate Jones, who's kind
- 48:17Speaker 3: of an NBA Twitter account, was like, we need Pablo
- 48:20Speaker 3: Tory from ESPN to do an investigation on this because
- 48:22Speaker 3: it does feel like every single year, at least once
- 48:24Speaker 3: or twice, an okay See thunder fan hits a half
- 48:27Speaker 3: court shot during the game to win.
- 48:29Speaker 2: I think he went twenty thousand last night.
- 48:31Speaker 3: The other thing, you know, how, like when you're like
- 48:34Speaker 3: just a kid, because it was just like a teenager, right,
- 48:36Speaker 3: maybe like a younger male, right. You know how like
- 48:38Speaker 3: when you take pictures and stuff you don't want to
- 48:40Speaker 3: do with your hands, so a lot of times it's
- 48:42Speaker 3: like maybe like a thumbs up or something stupid. I
- 48:45Speaker 3: think that's horns down for a lot of stupid kids.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Like if they're like on video or taking a picture
- 48:51Speaker 3: or something, what do you do with your hands?
- 48:53Speaker 2: They don't know? Horns down? Okay, what comes? But Hey,
- 48:57Speaker 2: rent free, Yeah, rent free, there you go. We like
- 49:00Speaker 2: keep doing it. Yeah.
- 49:02Speaker 1: A friend of mine up in the Dallas for where
- 49:04Speaker 1: their ty walker's worked in sports radio a long time,
- 49:07Speaker 1: had I guess he. I don't know if he retweeted this,
- 49:10Speaker 1: but the title is what would happen if each of
- 49:12Speaker 1: the four remaining teams wins the Super Bowl? It's got
- 49:14Speaker 1: their logo and then a slugline. For example, for Kansas City,
- 49:18Speaker 1: it's got the chiefs arrowhead, and then it says Patrick
- 49:20Speaker 1: Mahomes enters serious goat debates. For Buffalo, it says Josh
- 49:25Speaker 1: Allen officially as sends Lamar in Burrow. For Washington, it
- 49:30Speaker 1: says Jane Daniels immortalized for best rookie season ever. And
- 49:34Speaker 1: then for the Eagles, it says, we'd all probably quickly
- 49:36Speaker 1: move on with our lives. Sounds like a frustrated Cowboys fan.
- 49:41Speaker 3: I think that it would be the same reaction with
- 49:43Speaker 3: like Ohio State winning the championship.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think a lot.
- 49:45Speaker 1: But they and it had what they said, really poor ratings,
- 49:48Speaker 1: twenty two million, which is down.
- 49:49Speaker 3: It was twenty five for Michigan, Washington was down. Do
- 49:54Speaker 3: you think college football needs to move up the national Championship.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Well, the only way they can do that, and the
- 50:00Speaker 1: only way they can do a lot of things differently,
- 50:02Speaker 1: they're gonna have to get rid of the conference championship games,
- 50:05Speaker 1: and the conferences don't want to do that because of
- 50:06Speaker 1: the revenue on that. So there's it's gonna have to
- 50:09Speaker 1: be a lot more discussed about that.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Look, because if they expend the playoff Craig, then it's
- 50:13Speaker 3: back at least another week, which means the National Championship
- 50:16Speaker 3: would be this Monday. Maybe gets to a point where
- 50:19Speaker 3: you play it during the Pro Bowl weekend.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Well, the only weekend they have that they can do
- 50:24Speaker 1: that is the weekend of Army Navy, and they'd have
- 50:26Speaker 1: to move Army Navy into the Conference championship weekend, which
- 50:29Speaker 1: if Army or Navy qualifies for the Conference champions like
- 50:33Speaker 1: Army did, it wouldn't work.
- 50:34Speaker 2: So then you got to push it back a week.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Yeah, or play summer suggesting play Army Navy either at
- 50:39Speaker 1: the start of the year or in the middle of
- 50:41Speaker 1: the year, I like Texas OU or whatever.
- 50:45Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what the answer to
- 50:46Speaker 2: that is.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Let's hear some more from long Warren men's basketball coach
- 50:50Speaker 1: Rodney Terry as he gets his team ready for tomorrow's
- 50:53Speaker 1: matchup with Texas A and.
- 50:54Speaker 21: Him, Hey ARTSI so Kaden Sederick he had in the
- 50:59Speaker 21: second happy at that moment where you know, he's on
- 51:01Speaker 21: the receiving the end of a big dunk, but then
- 51:03Speaker 21: he responds by diving on a loose ball that was
- 51:05Speaker 21: really important into a bunch of free throws, had that
- 51:09Speaker 21: one basket in the lane. Can you just talk about,
- 51:12Speaker 21: you know, his toughness and you know what that sequence
- 51:15Speaker 21: can kind of mean for him moving forward, about you know,
- 51:18Speaker 21: establishing you know, culture for this team, especially on a
- 51:20Speaker 21: team where you don't have a ton of returners and
- 51:22Speaker 21: he is one of the only returners. Can you just
- 51:25Speaker 21: talk about that sequence and you know what that shows
- 51:27Speaker 21: about him?
- 51:28Speaker 1: Well?
- 51:29Speaker 11: Sure, is that, no question about it. I think Cain
- 51:31Speaker 11: has been one of our more consistent players. You know
- 51:34Speaker 11: a lot of times he doesn't get a lot of
- 51:35Speaker 11: conversation because people are equating a good game with how
- 51:39Speaker 11: many points you score and things of that nature.
- 51:42Speaker 6: But if you look at what.
- 51:43Speaker 11: Caden does with all the intangibles and how he impacts
- 51:47Speaker 11: winning and whether or not your team successful a lot
- 51:50Speaker 11: of times it does show up in the statue. He's
- 51:53Speaker 11: a cerebral player who knows his calend report inside out.
- 51:56Speaker 11: He knows the personnel, he knows the schemes we're trying
- 51:59Speaker 11: to do offensively defensively. At times I challenge him to
- 52:03Speaker 11: try to be more offensively minded because he is a
- 52:06Speaker 11: guy that can't score the basketball and have some good
- 52:08Speaker 11: twos to work with offensively.
- 52:10Speaker 6: Sometimes he doesn't see himself being that kind of guy.
- 52:14Speaker 11: But when he is and he's putting pressure on the
- 52:16Speaker 11: other team in the paint, it makes our team so
- 52:20Speaker 11: much better. He runs the floor, He's very agile. He
- 52:23Speaker 11: could be a guy that protects the rim. He's rebound
- 52:26Speaker 11: the ball well for us. He doesn't mind, you know,
- 52:29Speaker 11: giving his body up fifty to fifty balls.
- 52:32Speaker 6: He's shooting free throws right now at a high level.
- 52:35Speaker 11: You know, and I think again he's playing with a
- 52:37Speaker 11: lot of toughness. I think Cayden Cedric has posted in
- 52:40Speaker 11: every game this year in a very very positive lightboars
- 52:44Speaker 11: on both ends of the floor.
- 52:46Speaker 7: Artie the idea of not making it bigger than it is,
- 52:50Speaker 7: but a big resume opportunity home game. You know, these
- 52:55Speaker 7: are so important. How do you kind of strike that balance.
- 53:00Speaker 11: Well again and him well coached team Buzz has done
- 53:02Speaker 11: an incredible job with this program. There, you know, one
- 53:06Speaker 11: of the top teams in the country. They've got a
- 53:10Speaker 11: lot of continuity.
- 53:11Speaker 6: From last year, a lot of experience.
- 53:15Speaker 11: Uh.
- 53:15Speaker 6: They play physical, they show the basketball.
- 53:20Speaker 11: They have an older leader and Wade Taylor, who's one
- 53:23Speaker 11: of the best players in the country. You know, pain
- 53:27Speaker 11: has come in and really given them the inside presence.
- 53:30Speaker 11: Officially again, I think they're the best offensive rebounding team
- 53:34Speaker 11: in the country and then the best you know, fifty
- 53:36Speaker 11: to fifty team in the country.
- 53:38Speaker 22: Uh.
- 53:39Speaker 11: And and they put a lot of pressure on the basket,
- 53:42Speaker 11: you know, attacking the basket. So you know, again you're
- 53:45Speaker 11: you're excited about an opportunity gets one of the top
- 53:47Speaker 11: teams in the country. We know we have our work
- 53:50Speaker 11: cutout for us in terms of how hard we have
- 53:52Speaker 11: to play and you know, the execution, we have to
- 53:56Speaker 11: try to have them both ends of the floor.
- 53:58Speaker 6: But a lot of respect for or Texas A and
- 54:00Speaker 6: M in that program.
- 54:02Speaker 14: It kind of following up on the resume component after
- 54:05Speaker 14: that Missouri win, like, has was there any discussion about
- 54:08Speaker 14: what that does to boost you guys, and that you know,
- 54:11Speaker 14: really your goals are all potentially ahead of you as
- 54:14Speaker 14: far as tournament edplications and stuff like that.
- 54:16Speaker 11: You know what, I think, there's h I think in
- 54:20Speaker 11: this league you only have the game for one night.
- 54:24Speaker 6: You win, you lose.
- 54:27Speaker 11: You got it for one night, and it's on to
- 54:28Speaker 11: the next challenge, because every every game in this league
- 54:32Speaker 11: is a challenge. There's not one bad team in this league. Uh,
- 54:36Speaker 11: there's not one team in this league it's not well coached.
- 54:39Speaker 11: So it's on to the next one. And always tell
- 54:43Speaker 11: our guests control what you can control and live where
- 54:45Speaker 11: your feet are.
- 54:46Speaker 6: And for us, it's.
- 54:47Speaker 11: A and M right now, and we're all in on
- 54:51Speaker 11: this this one game.
- 54:53Speaker 14: And then last one for me obviously a bunch of
- 54:56Speaker 14: you guys. You know, you go into College Station and
- 54:58Speaker 14: you lose, you feel I feel like your guys understand
- 55:01Speaker 14: like the rivalry here and kind of what this would
- 55:04Speaker 14: do for you know, fans and that component of this game.
- 55:08Speaker 11: Oh, they felt the robbery of it of the game.
- 55:11Speaker 11: The minute we walked in that building. You know, they
- 55:14Speaker 11: had a great crowd, great atmosphere and a great home
- 55:18Speaker 11: court that day.
- 55:20Speaker 6: I'm hoping that we.
- 55:21Speaker 11: Have a great home court ourselves in terms of Long
- 55:23Speaker 11: Order Nation and our student uh you know group last
- 55:28Speaker 11: ball game, the Corral and our students just in general.
- 55:31Speaker 11: Last game came out and it showed out. I mean,
- 55:34Speaker 11: you know, we don't probably win that game if we
- 55:37Speaker 11: don't have the energy in that building from our student body.
- 55:41Speaker 11: You know, they they are a difference maker. They will
- 55:44Speaker 11: our teams and they have willed out our teams in
- 55:47Speaker 11: the past in the Movie Center two wins, and so
- 55:51Speaker 11: it does make a difference in terms of the atmosphere.
- 55:54Speaker 11: You have, every atmosphere we going into in this league
- 55:57Speaker 11: has been sold out. We haven't gone to building that
- 56:01Speaker 11: hasn't been sold out. Student section has been full, and
- 56:04Speaker 11: so it makes a difference when.
- 56:06Speaker 6: You play in those kind of environments.
- 56:08Speaker 11: And you know, I think for us, you know, our
- 56:12Speaker 11: guys get excited about it.
- 56:13Speaker 6: They know how big a robberies.
- 56:16Speaker 11: And it's a great robbery for the state of Texas
- 56:18Speaker 11: and and for college athletics for us.
- 56:21Speaker 6: To be playing again.
- 56:22Speaker 1: It's a long worn's head coach Rodney Terry. So we're
- 56:24Speaker 1: gonna have some more from RT from last night's edition
- 56:27Speaker 1: Longhorn Weekly. Some specifics about Texas, A and M coming up.
- 56:30Speaker 1: We've got some NFL notes up next here on AM
- 56:34Speaker 1: thirteen under the Zone. We hope we're adequately preparing you
- 56:36Speaker 1: for the weekend of sporting activities NFC AFC Championship. You're
- 56:42Speaker 1: picking Kansas City. You think it'll be a close game
- 56:45Speaker 1: like they've had some of the past.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Think so, I think so. I think it'll be a
- 56:47Speaker 3: very close game. There's going to be a past interference call.
- 56:50Speaker 3: There's going to be a rough, laid hit out there,
- 56:54Speaker 3: like a disconcerting signals type call, something.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Ridiculous side aid.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Yeah, something like that that's going to aid the Chiefs
- 57:03Speaker 1: and just anger people all over again.
- 57:06Speaker 2: That's it's gonna be funny about that.
- 57:09Speaker 6: You know.
- 57:09Speaker 1: If the Chiefs, like and I'm not expecting this, I'm
- 57:13Speaker 1: expecting a close game like you are. But if the
- 57:16Speaker 1: Chiefs wallop the Lions that they are Lions, the Bills,
- 57:20Speaker 1: if they beat them decisively, you know, people will be
- 57:27Speaker 1: as disgusted as they would be if they want a
- 57:30Speaker 1: tight game, they just won't have as much to grumble
- 57:32Speaker 1: about if it's lopsided on it. But I do think
- 57:34Speaker 1: it'll be a close game as well. What about the NFC.
- 57:37Speaker 1: You think it's going to Eagles will handle I think so.
- 57:39Speaker 3: I thought Philly was going to have their way with
- 57:41Speaker 3: Los Angeles because of their ability to run the ball,
- 57:44Speaker 3: and it came down to the fourth downstock right. So
- 57:50Speaker 3: Washington has played Philadelphia pretty tough the last two years.
- 57:52Speaker 3: They beat him last season, they beat him this season
- 57:55Speaker 3: in a game where I think they had five turnovers
- 57:58Speaker 3: the Commanders did and they still weren't. Of course, Hurts
- 58:00Speaker 3: got injured in that game, but they play him tough,
- 58:03Speaker 3: and I do think Washington has some sort of bravado
- 58:06Speaker 3: confidence within the team and the coaching step.
- 58:09Speaker 2: They're like, we're not scared of the We're.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Not at the number two and number three rushing teams
- 58:12Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 58:13Speaker 2: What I do worry about, though, is Washington's defensive line,
- 58:16Speaker 2: which was was pretty average this season. But what's the
- 58:21Speaker 2: weather going to be?
- 58:22Speaker 23: Like?
- 58:22Speaker 2: That's another factor. Well, it's Philly in January, so that's
- 58:26Speaker 2: I think.
- 58:26Speaker 3: I think it'll be tough. I think both games will
- 58:28Speaker 3: be tight. I think both will be real fun football games.
- 58:31Speaker 3: And I'm excited for this weekend. All Right, it was
- 58:35Speaker 3: a good day for baseball workouts. However, in the UFCU
- 58:38Speaker 3: dishfallk Field, first day for the team workouts there for
- 58:41Speaker 3: the in advance of the brand new season which begins
- 58:45Speaker 3: three weeks from the day at Global Life Field and
- 58:48Speaker 3: Arlington against the Washington No No against the Louisville Cardinals
- 58:52Speaker 3: on the Friday night. That'll be the season opener for
- 58:56Speaker 3: Texas there as they play Global Life Field. A little
- 58:59Speaker 3: while ago, had a chance to pop over to UFCU
- 59:02Speaker 3: Dish Farfield with other media for media session with Long
- 59:06Speaker 3: Warren's head coach Chim Schlostegel.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Here's the second part of that conversation with the coach.
- 59:11Speaker 18: How important was he to bring in new arms to
- 59:13Speaker 18: help ulster a pretty depleted squad, but also bring.
- 59:16Speaker 2: In some sec experience arms like McCreery and Sonya.
- 59:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think all that's important.
- 59:23Speaker 8: Grayson has been in the league, McCreary's been in the league.
- 59:26Speaker 4: I think that helps some.
- 59:29Speaker 8: It's more about bringing in the best arms we can find,
- 59:31Speaker 8: you know, getting the job June twenty fifth or twenty six,
- 59:35Speaker 8: whatever it was, and then you have four or five
- 59:37Speaker 8: days left in the transfer portal. We were on the
- 59:39Speaker 8: tail end of all that stuff. So yeah, but it's important.
- 59:44Speaker 8: I think anybody, you can't teach birthdays, you can't teach experience,
- 59:48Speaker 8: and so having those experience guys and even Spencer, who
- 59:52Speaker 8: didn't pitch the SEC but he's pitching the super Regionals and.
- 59:54Speaker 4: At a really high level of Indiana State.
- 59:56Speaker 18: Coach, can you talk about some of the freshmen classic
- 59:59Speaker 18: came in this past semester as well as some of
- 1:00:01Speaker 18: the guys that followed you, and you know, how's Adrian
- 1:00:04Speaker 18: coming along in terms of his development.
- 1:00:05Speaker 8: Specifically, Yeah, start with Adrian. Adrian's done really well. He's
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: We've asked him, you know, we've had a massive, massive well.
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: I said, really a lot of stuff on the weight room,
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: Like I'm a big believer in the weight room, and
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: Adrian's gotten nineteen pounds heavier, he's running faster, he's a
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: switch hitter, but he's he's really young and it's hard
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: to be competitive. It's hard to be great in our
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: league as a freshman. You can do it, but when
- 1:00:36Speaker 8: you do it, you're awesome. And so he's got a
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: chance to do that. Really excited about some pitching Jason Flores,
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: Drew Rerick, Bryce Navarre, and Dylan Valantis, especially Valantis Valantis
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: is super talent and he's He's a guy that.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: We got late in the summer, was got drafted.
- 1:00:54Speaker 8: Was was that USC got out of that situation and
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: we were able to get him right. He was the
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: last player we took very very end of the summer
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: as a high school player, and I'm really excited about him.
- 1:01:05Speaker 23: What do you do with a guy like Jonah Williams,
- 1:01:09Speaker 23: you know, size of him as a baseball player, and
- 1:01:12Speaker 23: you know you and Sark are both big on your
- 1:01:14Speaker 23: guys being dialed into your team's How do you, you know,
- 1:01:19Speaker 23: talk about the Jonah Williams experience.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: I guess yeah, so far, it's been amazing. Jonah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: Got to give him a lot of credit for how
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: he's handled himself coming in as a high school senior
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: basically and coming into a team, how he's handled himself
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: in the clubhouse.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: He speaks up, he's not afraid to be assertive.
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: But he's also a lot of he's really funny and
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: our guys love him.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: But he's he hasn't healed yet.
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: You know, he had that broken collarbone I think the
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: sixth or seventh game of his high school season, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: so that bone is not fully healed yet, so I
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: haven't got to see him do anything but run.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: He can really do that. Uh, you know, he's been
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: in the weight room a little bit, but I have
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: no you know, is he a pitcher? Is he a
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: position player?
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: I don't know, but yeah, Sark and I, you know,
- 1:02:01Speaker 8: we're on the same page, and I certainly wanted to
- 1:02:03Speaker 8: have a great experience on the baseball side.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: So he's ready to go help the football team.
- 1:02:07Speaker 17: Coach, you talked about the guys being hungry.
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: How hungry are you?
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: Yeah? Really hungry. Yeah, I mean I'm I'm just like
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: anybody else.
- 1:02:14Speaker 8: I get giddy about Opening Day, I get giddy about
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: the baseball season. I'm excited to be a part of everything,
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: all things Texas. And but I feel that way every season,
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: and whether it's been at UNLV at thirty years old
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: or whether it be at Texas at fifty four.
- 1:02:31Speaker 12: Go back to the Luke Harrison for a second and
- 1:02:33Speaker 12: just talk about his recovery and what you expect from him.
- 1:02:36Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, he's knock on wood, he's fully recovered.
- 1:02:39Speaker 8: He's he's he's he's gotten a lot bigger. I think
- 1:02:43Speaker 8: our weight room emphasis that's the word I was looking for.
- 1:02:46Speaker 8: Emphasis in the weight room has really helped him. He
- 1:02:49Speaker 8: definitely looks a lot better in the uniform. I don't
- 1:02:52Speaker 8: like little players unless unless you can really run or
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: you're left handed. So I like big, strong, fast players,
- 1:02:57Speaker 8: and so does everybody, I guess. But Luke's Luke's really
- 1:02:59Speaker 8: done a good job and just throws a lot of strikes.
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: And I don't think I've ever heard a baseball coach
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: go home and say, Godly, my pitching staff throws way
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: too many strikes. Right, So we'll just we're gonna the
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: guys who pitch the best pitch the most. The guys
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: who throws the most strikes are the ones that are
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: gonna pitch.
- 1:03:16Speaker 19: Coach talk about being giddy and being in the new program.
- 1:03:19Speaker 19: Is there anything about Texas that you experienced that you
- 1:03:22Speaker 19: haven't experienced before that you know only you have that perspective?
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: Well, another question, Uh, I don't think so, not yet.
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: No, I mean, I don't think so that. The support
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: has been amazing.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: Obviously, my relationship with with Chris Delcante that helps out
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: a lot because I know how he operates the people
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: that help him. Sarah Baumgardner, you know Drew Martin Drew
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: I work with at TCU, so a lot of familiar
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: faces here, but also a lot of familiar faces like
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: Craig and other people that are around the program makes
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: it a lot, you know, super comfortable, at least in
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: the moment, So I'm sure it'll be uncomfortable once we
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: get going. But that's okay, you know, I mean, that's
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: that's part of it. You know, I'm excited for this.
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: I've I've worked my entire life for, you know, play
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: for opportunities like I had at A and M and
- 1:04:14Speaker 8: like I had here where you're coaching at the absolute
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: highest level of your profession against the best teams.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: I love my time at TCU and and we did
- 1:04:24Speaker 8: an awesome job there. But when you're in this league,
- 1:04:27Speaker 8: wait till you guys see it like it's it's the
- 1:04:30Speaker 8: big leagues of college baseball, and it's every single day,
- 1:04:32Speaker 8: which will drive you crazy, but it's it's so fun
- 1:04:36Speaker 8: and so challenging. So that personal challenge to do try
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: and try and win here at this great place in
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: that league is what excites me a lot.
- 1:04:45Speaker 23: What what do you think something your players have already
- 1:04:49Speaker 23: noticed that's different now with Jim Flasnagel as coach.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: What would what would you think they're.
- 1:04:56Speaker 8: Uh, you probably I'd be interested once you asked them
- 1:04:58Speaker 8: when they come up here. But uh, I mean I
- 1:05:01Speaker 8: think they Well, I'd like for them to see how
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: invested I am.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: Like, I don't.
- 1:05:05Speaker 8: I don't play golf. I don't have that. I'm pretty
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: boring guy. I don't have hobbies.
- 1:05:09Speaker 13: Uh.
- 1:05:09Speaker 8: I like to be here and I'm at the point
- 1:05:11Speaker 8: in my life with my children grown where I can
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: be here all the time and and be around and
- 1:05:16Speaker 8: help them and encourage them and hold them accountable too.
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: And so I'm I'm active in practice, and I love baseball,
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: and you know, and I like the lifestyle of coaching.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: It's not a profession to me. So I would hope
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: they feel that, you know.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Said omahall is mandatory.
- 1:05:33Speaker 17: It's true.
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: Yeah, Kirk, you say that too. We are the same church.
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: So so I'll pray for you appreciate. Yeah, Yeah, I
- 1:05:49Speaker 8: get it.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I get it. I know thirty eight trips.
- 1:05:52Speaker 8: I sit that I sit in an office that coach Dish,
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: coach falk Uh, coach Gus and Augie. Their pictures on
- 1:05:59Speaker 8: the wall, and I it stares at me every single day,
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: so but I'm not afraid of that. And every game
- 1:06:05Speaker 8: is not gonna be perfect, Every season is not going
- 1:06:07Speaker 8: to be perfect. I would love but you know, I'm
- 1:06:11Speaker 8: excited for as long as you have high support.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: I'm totally cool with the high expectation.
- 1:06:16Speaker 12: There's a lot of kids from Texas on this roster.
- 1:06:19Speaker 14: How much did your connections around the state help in
- 1:06:22Speaker 14: building this roster, as you mentioned, was kind of a short,
- 1:06:25Speaker 14: short time period.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: Well, I mean, i'd have to go back and look,
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: there's a lot of them already here, you know that
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: are from the state.
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: Certainly, a lot of great players, great high school coaches,
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: great summer summer teams in the state of Texas. We
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: want the best players in Texas easily, obviously, but that
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: in today's travel baseball, kids play all over the country,
- 1:06:42Speaker 8: so they're they're used to being away from homes and
- 1:06:46Speaker 8: sometimes you see a guy. We recruited a kid from
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: Houston this fall who's going to Florida, and ten years
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: ago you would have never seen something like that. And
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: now because they play all over the country, you know
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: kids are going to leave the state. But at the
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: same time, we have commitments from best left a pitcher
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: in the northeast. We have the best centerfielder in North
- 1:07:03Speaker 8: Carolina community here like so I think we want the
- 1:07:06Speaker 8: best player. And if he's in Texas, great, If he's not,
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: then that that's finds him to here.
- 1:07:11Speaker 20: To hear your excitement from your voice when you talk
- 1:07:13Speaker 20: about those guys, Yeah.
- 1:07:16Speaker 17: You know you're not inheriting this broken down julyn. You know,
- 1:07:19Speaker 17: you're you're hearing a pretty good, pretty machine.
- 1:07:20Speaker 20: And I wonder when you look out there, do you
- 1:07:22Speaker 20: see that's an that's what that's what an SEC team
- 1:07:24Speaker 20: is supposed to look like.
- 1:07:26Speaker 17: And now you just got to get them.
- 1:07:27Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I think I think we I think the
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: the front end of our team is that.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: I think that what we have to build up over.
- 1:07:36Speaker 8: Time is you know, like last year, you know, at
- 1:07:40Speaker 8: A and M we get we get a guy go
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: down and you plug somebody in and he, you know,
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: Kayden Kent becomes the hero of the College World Series.
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: He's SEC players sit on your bench. You know that
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: just couldn't happen to get in that line up. And
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: so that's what we have to build up here. So yeah,
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: I'm super excited, very thankful to Coach Pierce and his
- 1:07:56Speaker 8: staff for the guy, the guys that are here, we
- 1:07:59Speaker 8: just need those topic players. We got to keep him
- 1:08:01Speaker 8: healthy and they need to do well. Not that the
- 1:08:04Speaker 8: other guys can't do that, they're just not They're not
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: ready yet.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: And there will come a day.
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: Here where if a guy goes down, we feel really
- 1:08:12Speaker 8: good about the next one.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Jim. I know a last question for COO Jim.
- 1:08:16Speaker 18: I know it's early, just your initial impressions on Jalen
- 1:08:18Speaker 18: Flora's now now so you faced him, but I told
- 1:08:20Speaker 18: to him on the side.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: Yeah, Jalen's great.
- 1:08:22Speaker 8: He's got a really awesome mentality, prepares baseball means a
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: lot to him.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Texas means a lot to him.
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: He had chance to sign you know, seven figures potential
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: bonus as a draft eligible sophomore and came back. That
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: says a lot about how he feels about this place.
- 1:08:38Speaker 8: And I think the weight room has really helped him
- 1:08:40Speaker 8: as well. He was a guy he was. He was
- 1:08:41Speaker 8: already a big frame, but I don't know how strong
- 1:08:44Speaker 8: pure strength he had, but that's greatly improved, and so
- 1:08:48Speaker 8: we need him certainly to stay healthy all year.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: Can you give us thoughts on the A and M
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: vim number one.
- 1:08:53Speaker 8: I mean they have a great teams and there's there's
- 1:08:55Speaker 8: there's no question they have a great club. They have
- 1:08:57Speaker 8: Omaha experience, Michael do a great job with him certainly,
- 1:09:02Speaker 8: have you know most of the team backs of the
- 1:09:05Speaker 8: character in chemistry of that club is uh is awesome
- 1:09:09Speaker 8: and uh, you know, we'll see what happens when we
- 1:09:12Speaker 8: get to play.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: Yeah, And it was a pretty interesting question because Kirk
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Bowles will drop that in there on occasions. And what
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: you think of A and M being number one in
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: the preseason Paul and he's, well, they're really good and
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Michael easily, he'll do a great job with him, and
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: you know the character and the talent of that ball club.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: And we said thanks coach, And then when we all
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: turned off to our machines, I think it was Ann
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Parker Coleman from from kV who said, well, you helped
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: build that to that point. He said, I'll let you
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: report that. We got to laugh it the earlier big
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: laugh you heard in case you missed it was uh,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles asking him about you know, because schlaw Us
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: had referred to Augi Gurito a couple of times, and
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: he said you know, Aggie used to say Omaha's mandatory.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: He said, yeah, I'm well.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Aware where that you would say that he goes and
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: we go to the same church, so I'll pray for you.
- 1:10:21Speaker 22: That.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: He said, he's well aware of the expectations, but he's
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: not ducking them or running from them or hiding from
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: them or any of that kind of stuff. Hey, that
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: huge women's basketball game they got postponed because of the
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: snow in Louisiana where the LSU women were unable to
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: leave on Wednesday, so they couldn't play Thursday at six
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: at number two South Carolina and LSU number five, and
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: so because of that, that necessitated moving up the Texas
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: game from eight o'clock to seven o'clock. Well, they're playing
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the game right now in Columbia, and right now number
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: five LSU is leading number two South Carolina twenty two
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: to seventeen hundred two minutes remaining in the first quarter
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: in that one. All right, we got more to come.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: More preview of Texas and Texas A and M who
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: play tomorrow here on thirteen under the Zone.
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: Back to the Craig Way Show. Connect with Craig through
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: the text line by text team Texas to eight one
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: five three zero, followed by your message. Standard message and
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: data rates may apply.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: Coming up in a few minutes.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: We'll visit with Andrew Monico play by play Voice of
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: the Texas A and M Maggie's I think he's just
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: got the town. They'll have their workout inside a Moody
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Center tonight. The way the reciprocal reciprocal deal. You know
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: they won't be inside a mood isn't w W E
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: raw or raw?
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Ra okay, So yeah, you keep up with that stuff.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: I do not keep up with that.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: I just noticed that when checking the Moody schedule because
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: we have to tear down our equipment. Yes, we had
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: to right right. And then then I see Mark Henry.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: I will give him a handshake and say thank you
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: for all you've done.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: But yeah, well, uh so, I think they'll they'll probably
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: shoot inside of the Texas Practice Gym this evening.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: Probably do that. You're not going to Austin High.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: I don't think they'll go over to Burger Center or
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Austin High. I don't think it's some shots. I think
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: they'll great gym. The floors are warped.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, doubt that will happen. It'll probably be in the
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: in the other the other.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Uh the that that big matchup we told you about
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: on the women's side, Uh, number two South Carolina snack down.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: By the way, my car's corrected me, So you were right.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: I was wrong.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Okay, so you keep up with it more than me.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: And then well I thought I'd seen somewhere that it
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: was going to be SmackDown.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: So there it is. It's SmackDown tonight.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: That big matchup between number two and defending national champions
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: South Carolina, number five LSU, the who is unbeaten at
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: twenty to zero. They're starting the second quarter in Columbia,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: LSU with a twenty two to twenty one lead.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: That thing is probably going to go to the wire.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Might go to the wire tomorrow between Texas and Texas
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: A and M. This is from last night's edition of
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Logorn Weekly with head coach Rodney Terry out at Pluckers
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: at the West Campus location. Riddey and I talking about
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: this matchup between Texas and Texas A and M tomorrow night.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Here's the first team that you will be seeing for
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: a second time this season. I always ask you about
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: this when you get to the second half of the season,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: of the conference season, and really, Truther, you're not even
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: at the second half. Yeah, you're getting closer to it.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: That How much can you take from the first game?
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: It was three weeks ago, So how much can you
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: take from the first game against Texas? He and them
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: the game over in college station as you get your
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: guys prepared for this one.
- 1:14:05Speaker 11: WUR team's grown tremendously from our first league game to
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: where we are right now. Uh, in just understanding how
- 1:14:12Speaker 11: competitive you have to be in this league, how physical
- 1:14:15Speaker 11: you have to be in this league, how you have
- 1:14:17Speaker 11: the value taking care of the basketball, how important it
- 1:14:20Speaker 11: is with.
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: Player movement, ball movement. You know, we've we've learned a lot.
- 1:14:23Speaker 11: You've got to be able to put consecutive stuff together
- 1:14:27Speaker 11: throughout the course of the games. Uh, in this league,
- 1:14:31Speaker 11: you know, and it was a team again that's well coached,
- 1:14:34Speaker 11: they're older, you know, they've got a lot of experience.
- 1:14:38Speaker 11: Wayne Taylor one of the best guards in the league.
- 1:14:41Speaker 11: You know Phelps is playing, is one of the best
- 1:14:43Speaker 11: guards in the league. How about a bask hitting the
- 1:14:47Speaker 11: winning another experienced player that played really well in postseason
- 1:14:51Speaker 11: play last year.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: I mean toward the latim Porter last season.
- 1:14:54Speaker 11: You know, he's a guy who scored sixteen points a
- 1:14:56Speaker 11: game almost down the stretch for him, so he's a
- 1:14:58Speaker 11: capable score great body gets downhill.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: They're bigs, are physical, they come.
- 1:15:04Speaker 11: To rebound, they're extra effort players and you know, I
- 1:15:09Speaker 11: think again they're the best in the country and rebound
- 1:15:11Speaker 11: in the basketball and fifty to fifty game in the game.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Within the game.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: In the first meeting in College Station, you had a
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: couple of six point leagues in first half, you were
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: tied at the half at thirty seven. They hit the
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: big explosion out of the gate. I think a fifteen
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: to two run at the start of the second half
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: and sometimes at the sides games and sometimes a dozen't
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I know, your team was fighting to try to get
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: back in it, and that's kind of tough when they
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: come out of the gates.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: That tough in the second half.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: Well, they're a physical team. I thought we did.
- 1:15:36Speaker 11: We did a really good job in the first half
- 1:15:38Speaker 11: over there, keeping them off the glass and second chance opportunities.
- 1:15:42Speaker 11: You know, I think they have three offensive rebounds in
- 1:15:45Speaker 11: the first half over there, and second half, you know,
- 1:15:48Speaker 11: they really stepped their game up in terms of getting
- 1:15:50Speaker 11: second chance opportunities and really just kind of wores down.
- 1:15:54Speaker 11: Their defense is really good as well. They changed their
- 1:15:56Speaker 11: defenses up there. They're switching defense. They played some men,
- 1:16:00Speaker 11: you know, they play some zone defense as well. And
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: then their pressure up the floor a little bit, you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 11: in terms of trying.
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: To slow you up and take time off the clock.
- 1:16:08Speaker 11: And you got to do a great job of value
- 1:16:10Speaker 11: taking care of the basketball, scrolling with the basketball.
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: This is a is a grown man's game.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Yeah. And it's a deep team, isn't there.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: They've got guys who can give them some valuable minutes.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: You brought up way Taylor who most folks feel that way.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Taylor Forth is probably the best player on the roster, but.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: He was injured for a while, came back.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: He has had a couple of games where he wasn't
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: in his full throttle self that we're used to seeing.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: But even in those moments, Zurick phelps or a basket here,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: some of the other guys picked up the slide well.
- 1:16:37Speaker 11: His leadership and his experience even when he's not on
- 1:16:40Speaker 11: the floor for their team, it's a big deal for them.
- 1:16:44Speaker 11: I mean, he's almost a two thousand points scorer over there.
- 1:16:46Speaker 11: I think he's a second leading leading school over there,
- 1:16:49Speaker 11: close to climbing up to trying to be the number
- 1:16:51Speaker 11: one all time leader in points over there.
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: So when you have a guy that's won at a
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: high level, he's.
- 1:16:56Speaker 11: Put it in the books at a high level, you know,
- 1:16:58Speaker 11: he commands the respect of his team and he's a
- 1:17:01Speaker 11: great leader for his team.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So there are the thoughts from Rodney
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Terry about this matchup with Texas A and M and
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: some of the parts, the guys off the bench, the
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: guys who aren't like number one and number two mentioned
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: Waye Taylor has been banged up and trying to get
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: back in the groove and the rhythm of all of that.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: So we're about to find out a little more about
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that coming up here in a few minutes. We're going
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: to visit with Andrew Monica Theyaggies played by playvoice to
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: talk a little bit about that.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: So we'll do that.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: That women's game is nearing the midway mark of the
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: second quarter in South Carolina leading LSU twenty five to
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: twenty four.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Heck of a ballgame. That'll I'm sure go. Like I said,
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: the distance in that one.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Are up next more on this matchup between Texas and
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Texas A and M. Will visit with the play by
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: play voice of the Aggies at Texas A and M,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Andrew Monica. When we continue on A thirteen Under the Zone.
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: And we're back to the Craig Way Show. Have a
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: message for Craig, Share it by using the talkback feature
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: on the Ihearts radio.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: App here on Friday afternoon here on IM thirteen Under
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: the Zone, and you've heard from Rodney Terry talking about
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: her from Jordan Pope as well. Texas against Texas A
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: and M tomorrow afternoon. Let's hear from the other side
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: as well, and always enjoy busy with our good friend
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Andrew Monico, the play by play voice of the Aggies
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: of Texas A and M, who had once again the
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: shining example of one of the stark differences between Austin,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Texas and the Brasses Valley is the traffic of rolling
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: in Towston.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: Am I right, Andrew, It's.
- 1:18:57Speaker 17: The absolute truth.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: Craig.
- 1:18:59Speaker 17: How are you my friend? Thank you for having me?
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, it's I'm glad you're still able to
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: visit with us, because that could be a harrowing experience.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: You know that drive over twenty one and two ninety.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: You know, once you get on into town, that could
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: be a big yeah.
- 1:19:13Speaker 22: And then you get on thirty five and you can
- 1:19:15Speaker 22: see where you want to be. Right there, that's where
- 1:19:19Speaker 22: we want to be, and it just takes a little
- 1:19:20Speaker 22: bit longer.
- 1:19:21Speaker 17: Yeah, you're right. Six wasn't nearly as crowded.
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: Twenty one.
- 1:19:25Speaker 22: Its clear sailing, seven, clear sailing, and then thirty five.
- 1:19:30Speaker 22: But you know, I do it from the lower end
- 1:19:33Speaker 22: for so many years in San Antonio. If you want
- 1:19:35Speaker 22: to get someplace fast, don't take thirty five.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go, There you go. That's sage advice. Okay.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I wanted to visit with you a not only to
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: preview this matchup, and it's a unique thing, as I
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: mentioned Rodney Terry last time, because you know, mathematically, mathematically,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: neither side has reached the midway mark of the conference season.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Yet here it is a second game between the two
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: teams already the as as our good friend brad Mark Quard,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: who handles the media relations for Aggie Basketball, puts it,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the mirror matchup with the long win. So it's it's
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: the back side of that and it's it's come on,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: it's just three weeks later. But before we even get
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: into talking about that, I got to get you to
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: take us through what was going through your mind in
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: the final two minutes and one minute of the game
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: in Oxford, where I mean, I said at home, I
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: was spellbound as many were watching, how the Aggies scrambled
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: back to win that game.
- 1:20:33Speaker 22: Yeah, Craig, I didn't think there was a way. I
- 1:20:35Speaker 22: thought they were just going to run out of time
- 1:20:37Speaker 22: the Bobby Lane line, right, We didn't lose. We ran
- 1:20:39Speaker 22: out of time.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: And you're just.
- 1:20:40Speaker 22: Thinking back to like, what's the running the running joke
- 1:20:43Speaker 22: that coaches, what's the most important possession in a one
- 1:20:46Speaker 22: possession game, any of them, no matter what sport you're playing,
- 1:20:49Speaker 22: And you're thinking of whether it was a miss free
- 1:20:51Speaker 22: throw or this opportunity or an unpredictable shot. But then
- 1:20:55Speaker 22: he saw down the end, Craig I thought, in a
- 1:20:58Speaker 22: way Old Miss got out of there, Andy and out
- 1:21:00Speaker 22: of their style a little bit, where they were playing
- 1:21:02Speaker 22: so well for the first thirty six minutes and then
- 1:21:05Speaker 22: they go to a different style where the Aggies just
- 1:21:08Speaker 22: continued to do There's no panic on that sideline. There's
- 1:21:11Speaker 22: no panic on the on the court as long as
- 1:21:13Speaker 22: they kept giving them the chance. But in the back
- 1:21:15Speaker 22: of my mind, I'm like, great, the Aggie's gotten to
- 1:21:17Speaker 22: the bonus early. Then I look up they have three
- 1:21:20Speaker 22: team fouls. I'm like, oh, no, is Ole Miss just
- 1:21:22Speaker 22: going to play keep away. We're never going to get
- 1:21:24Speaker 22: them to the line for the one and one, And
- 1:21:26Speaker 22: the clock kept dripping and dripping. Unfortunately for them, they
- 1:21:29Speaker 22: had enough enough time left. It reminded me, Craig of
- 1:21:33Speaker 22: this that Ole Miss. All our players said before that
- 1:21:37Speaker 22: it's a team with good chemistry and they do have experience.
- 1:21:41Speaker 22: Maybe the problem with Old Miss, though, was when things
- 1:21:43Speaker 22: were going wrong. Craig, I'm not sure they played with
- 1:21:45Speaker 22: that chemistry. I thought they were hunting shots and I
- 1:21:48Speaker 22: thought Layton shot clocks. They had the ball in players
- 1:21:52Speaker 22: who the Aggies wanted to have the ball in their hands.
- 1:21:54Speaker 22: It wasn't the scorers, and there were some scorers who
- 1:21:58Speaker 22: weren't touching the ball. So yes, they had that experience,
- 1:22:01Speaker 22: but maybe not a ton of experience together. This year
- 1:22:05Speaker 22: they've got seven thousand points scores and it's really a
- 1:22:08Speaker 22: good team, please don't get me wrong. And the Aggies
- 1:22:10Speaker 22: are lucky to win that I'd said it. They stole
- 1:22:13Speaker 22: one there, but sometimes it matters. Can you be forced
- 1:22:16Speaker 22: through some fire that the Aggies kind of went through
- 1:22:19Speaker 22: this had Oklahoma earlier, that they've had games like this
- 1:22:22Speaker 22: that they've lost earlier.
- 1:22:24Speaker 17: They had a little more experience than their new not
- 1:22:27Speaker 17: to Paddock.
- 1:22:27Speaker 22: But my thought was, honestly, Craig boy, there's just not
- 1:22:30Speaker 22: going to be enough time in this game. When forty
- 1:22:33Speaker 22: minutes come out, there would be a valiant comeback, but
- 1:22:36Speaker 22: they may come just short.
- 1:22:37Speaker 17: But they found a way to win.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: And one of the ways, obviously at the tail end,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: was Mandy Obassek hitting the three.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: There.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Here's a guy who averages seven points a game. But
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: watching him play, and I might add watching how he
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: played against Texas the first time, he's one of I'm
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: sure a roster full of them there for the Aggis.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: But the guy who plays fearlessly, yeah.
- 1:23:01Speaker 17: He really does.
- 1:23:02Speaker 22: We jokingly call him march Manny when he plays like that,
- 1:23:04Speaker 22: that's march Manny because that's what he did. At the
- 1:23:07Speaker 22: end of the end of the conference season and then
- 1:23:09Speaker 22: into the SEC Tournament and the postseason.
- 1:23:12Speaker 17: Some of his best games.
- 1:23:13Speaker 22: When he is playing measured Craig, he's dangerous when he's
- 1:23:16Speaker 22: out of control and forcing going downhill. He's a turnverwaiting
- 1:23:21Speaker 22: to happen, and I hate saying that about him. But
- 1:23:24Speaker 22: Manny is also a product of playing with Boots Radford
- 1:23:28Speaker 22: last year, playing with Dexter Dennis before then playing with
- 1:23:32Speaker 22: Quinton Jackson before that. He's learned and to me, those
- 1:23:37Speaker 22: are the legacies of those players. Is players like Manny,
- 1:23:40Speaker 22: and then you hope some of the younger players rub
- 1:23:42Speaker 22: off on Manny. He's really adapted his game. Same thing
- 1:23:45Speaker 22: like this is what impressed me most. One he ran
- 1:23:49Speaker 22: to his spot so we could get that pass from
- 1:23:51Speaker 22: Zurich Phelps, but there was no celebration. He knew I
- 1:23:54Speaker 22: had to get back on defense, and you know some
- 1:23:56Speaker 22: players get caught up in the moments. It's his first
- 1:23:59Speaker 22: game winner, but he knew, Hey, the priority now is defense.
- 1:24:02Speaker 22: Have to get the stop then we can get the win.
- 1:24:05Speaker 22: So yeah, the bench I think is vital for Texas
- 1:24:08Speaker 22: A and M they go ten deep, buzz, we'll use
- 1:24:10Speaker 22: all ten and many is important because if Wade and
- 1:24:13Speaker 22: Zurich are not in the game, Many Obasiki is the
- 1:24:16Speaker 22: one who has.
- 1:24:17Speaker 17: To initiate this offense.
- 1:24:19Speaker 22: And Craig, I think anytime that you have to run
- 1:24:21Speaker 22: the show a little bit, I think that helps you
- 1:24:23Speaker 22: off the ball, because I think you have more of
- 1:24:25Speaker 22: an understanding of the offense.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Visiting with Andrew Monicoho play by play Voice of the
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: Texas A and Maggie's here on a thirteen.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Under the zone and we lost him Hotel WiFi.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Okay, all right, we'll take a break here up against it.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: If we can get him back on there for a
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: couple of final words.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: We'll do that.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: When we continue here on thirteen under the Zone, we
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: pay homage to Alexander Graham Bell for hooking us up
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: regular phone wise. So when last we left you, Andrew,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: you were just starting to answer the question when he
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: lost it when we were talking about Wade Taylor the
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: fourth and one, what he means to that Aggie ball
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: club even when he's not one hundred percent.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he becomes a coach.
- 1:25:07Speaker 22: I just want to say, there's an Aggie joke in
- 1:25:09Speaker 22: here somewhere is there about not being.
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: I wasn't going there. I wasn't going there.
- 1:25:14Speaker 22: So I will, Craig, he's the heart and soul.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: Craig, he really is, and you know it's it's so fun.
- 1:25:23Speaker 22: You know this probably better than anyone when you watch
- 1:25:25Speaker 22: a player from their first season to their last season
- 1:25:28Speaker 22: and how much they grow and mature. Though he was
- 1:25:30Speaker 22: a bench guy his first year, now he's the leader.
- 1:25:33Speaker 22: And Craig, you also know, when you moved to the
- 1:25:34Speaker 22: top of that scouting report, and he's been there for
- 1:25:36Speaker 22: the last three years, you got to do something different
- 1:25:39Speaker 22: with your game, and that's what he's done. But even
- 1:25:43Speaker 22: when he was on the bench, he knows this offense
- 1:25:45Speaker 22: and this defense, and he knows his teammates so well
- 1:25:47Speaker 22: that he is he's another coach and players. Talking to
- 1:25:51Speaker 22: players is different from coaches talking to players. And when
- 1:25:53Speaker 22: the players had some questions whether we're playing Oklahoma or
- 1:25:57Speaker 22: Alabama or at Kentucky, that way was there to answer
- 1:26:01Speaker 22: those questions. And now on the floor, he's a he's
- 1:26:04Speaker 22: a calming presence.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: At home, he can he can lift a he can.
- 1:26:07Speaker 22: Lift the twelfth men out of their seats. And on
- 1:26:10Speaker 22: the road, I love something my partner, doctor John Thornton, says,
- 1:26:13Speaker 22: he can get he can get fans to sit down.
- 1:26:15Speaker 22: He's a sit down type of player, it means an
- 1:26:18Speaker 22: awful lot. The moment is never too big for him.
- 1:26:20Speaker 22: Craig home road neutral. He always seems to respond.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: The one glaring thing more than anything else that came
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: out of the first meeting, at least from the Texas
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: side of thing, is how they were outmuscled and out
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: rebounded and what the Aggies did on the on the
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: glass in the second half from that thirty seven to
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: thirty seven tie and get it.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: I think it was a fifteen to two run to
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: start in the second half.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: The rebounding is just and looking at the numbers Andrew
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: looks like it's just been a exercise of ferocity on
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: the part of the Aggies on what they do in
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: the glass.
- 1:26:52Speaker 22: Yeah, and it did not that Alabama out rebounded Texas
- 1:26:57Speaker 22: A and M at home at rit Arena. Alabama got
- 1:27:00Speaker 22: win despite the fear As comeback. Same thing with Kentucky.
- 1:27:03Speaker 22: It's part of the identity they have to rebound and
- 1:27:05Speaker 22: Craig Buzz Williams has said it like this, the moment
- 1:27:08Speaker 22: that that shot leaves and opponent's hand, that is a
- 1:27:11Speaker 22: live ball. That's how the Aggies you know, treated as
- 1:27:14Speaker 22: a live ball. The moment that it's in the air.
- 1:27:17Speaker 22: You don't wait for the shot to hit the rim.
- 1:27:19Speaker 22: That's too late. And this is also an offense that
- 1:27:22Speaker 22: is constructed on predictable shots.
- 1:27:24Speaker 17: Are you going to take the shot from your spot?
- 1:27:27Speaker 22: Because they have guys who will crash the glass in there,
- 1:27:30Speaker 22: guys who will get back on defense. And when you
- 1:27:32Speaker 22: take that unpredictable shot, then that becomes a broken floor
- 1:27:35Speaker 22: and usually a fast breakpoint because you have, you know,
- 1:27:38Speaker 22: guys who aren't in position. But no rebounding has been
- 1:27:41Speaker 22: part of the identity. Look, if you're only going to
- 1:27:43Speaker 22: shoot forty three percent, you'd better get the mint or
- 1:27:47Speaker 22: or you're going to be in a in a tough time.
- 1:27:49Speaker 17: So get getting getting that rebound.
- 1:27:52Speaker 22: Offensive rebound is big for them as well, and.
- 1:27:55Speaker 17: Guard rebounds are also of important emp just the bigs,
- 1:27:59Speaker 17: the guard have to.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Rebound as well.
- 1:28:01Speaker 22: And in that win over Ole Miss on Tuesday, excuse me,
- 1:28:04Speaker 22: on Wednesday, there were fourteen guard rebounds buzz likes. Anything
- 1:28:08Speaker 22: between twelve and fifteen is usually a good sign for
- 1:28:11Speaker 22: Texas A and m.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: Wow, uh, you haven't been inside of Moody Center, yet,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: have you correct?
- 1:28:18Speaker 22: I have not, So we were going to shoot around
- 1:28:21Speaker 22: tonight that's now been moved. Tomorrow will be my first
- 1:28:24Speaker 22: time in this gorgeous new facility. Yes, now, my family
- 1:28:28Speaker 22: has been here for concerts. Okay, I'm the last one
- 1:28:30Speaker 22: to come over here.
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, which concerts? Andrew, that's an important question to
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: me and Craig.
- 1:28:37Speaker 17: It was it was it was it was my daughter.
- 1:28:40Speaker 17: So it was Harry Styles.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: Oh oh was that? There you go?
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Sark always tells the story about how he's looking outside
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: of his window and seeing the line wrapped around the
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: building for Harry Styles. And that was at five thirty
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: in the morning to get tickets morning. Yeah, at five amazing. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: you're going. Well, it's fortunately or unfortunately, whether you're a
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: fan of w W SmackDown takes President tonight apparently at
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Moody will look forward to seeing you over in the
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: building tomorrow. I look forward to seeing you as always,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: and I really appreciate you taking the time to join
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: us today.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Craig, thank you.
- 1:29:18Speaker 22: Hey, can I congratulate your partner Sportscaster of the Year.
- 1:29:21Speaker 22: Well deserves you know, it's well deserved when your peers
- 1:29:24Speaker 22: are thankful. Congratulations to Roger, no.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: Doubt about it. He's richly deserving of the honor. You're
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: exactly right. Hey, thanks Andrew, I'll look forward to seeing
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: you tomorrow.
- 1:29:34Speaker 22: Same to you.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: Thank you, Creig. You bet.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: That's Andrew Monica, play by play voice the Aggies of Texas.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: He and M.
