Transcript
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Hey everybody, uh, it's me, your buddy Dave, the host of the Dark Stuff Channel here on YouTube.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for checking out my latest video.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Folks, this week I'm interviewing a fantastic new band from Omaha called Airperson.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: They've just released their debut album just two, three weeks ago, okay, and we're gonna talk all about it.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: So before we get going, let me go ahead and uh have you guys maybe introduce yourselves and uh say who you are, what you do in the band.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm Sarah Bertoldo.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: I sing and I play synths.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: I'm Aaron Weitchdinger, and I do drums and some background singing when Sarah tells me to.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So we got Sarah and we got Aaron.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: They are the band Hair Person.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: It's a new sort of electronic duo with the sound that's really rooted in sort of dark 80s and 90s kind of synth music.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: And uh is that accurate?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, you would say that was that was okay.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I have I've known Sarah for a while through previous bands from see-through dresses, millions of boys, stuff like that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I've interviewed uh the see-through dresses on the show back when we were just audio, uh, a really, really long time.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And if I remember, I will put a link to that below so you can listen to that if you're interested.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but now we have this brand new band, and uh it just kind of came for me, it kind of came out of nowhere because I didn't know what was what was going on at all.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So, how long have you guys known each other?
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Um, not super long, actually.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: It was it Halloween 2023?
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: It was 2023, yeah.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we met at uh Omaha Girls Rock Fundraiser, and I know Sarah, you're involved with that.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: It uh Aaron, are you also involved with that?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Or yeah, I work for oh okay, okay.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That would be how you met there uh with Omaha Girls Rock.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: We actually met through Nate Van Fliet, uh her yeah, see through dresses drummer, he's was my drum teacher, and it was in the middle of COVID, and part of the fundraiser was OGR instructors were gonna do a band, and the drummer got sick, and Nate called me and was like, Hey, do you want to do this one song with this band?
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: And that's and I showed up, and that's when I met Sarah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So you had never played drums before, or you had played drums before.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: I picked it up real late in life, uh, probably like 2021.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: I started playing.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Uh got connected with Nate, and that's tell me tell me if this is true, Aaron, that this is the first band that you've ever played in.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's very true.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: I'm living my dreams.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: You're living your dream, you're living your dreams.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: And you're playing with someone who is very experienced and has been playing in bands for a long time.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So, when did the idea of you guys making a band together even enter the picture?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it would seem, you know, just from the outside, it would seem like, well, you know, Sarah's kind of a veteran and Aaron is brand new.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And it how did this kind of come about that you want to do a band together?
- 3:26SPEAKER_04: I will just say for context, I think that that really works for us as a band, the like varying levels of experience.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: Um but you can talk, but do you want to talk about Gary and the band?
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Well, okay, so like, yeah, I met Aaron at the fundraiser.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: She later uh was volunteering at Girls Rock, and there's like these quiet moments in between while campers are in like lessons or in band practice where like the assembly room is just uh vacant.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: So I would just be like, I'm gonna play some music, and then everyone would just kind of happen to be around, and we like just started playing white stripe stuff, okay.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Two piece makes sense, and it was like a blast.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Um, and it was just like one day we just started doing it, and then like we kept playing like the day after and the day after that, and then we kind of met up a little bit after camps, but we didn't really have like a cohesive idea of what it could be like, other than like starting a half-hearted um Gary Newman and Susie and the Banshee tribute band called Gary and the Banshee.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: That's really what we wanted today.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: That was like we were gonna maybe do that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: And then her birthday is in February.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: And I was all like, that's a lot of work for like, especially for like doing like cover songs, and then like not easy, you know, like Susan and Gary Newman.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Um, so I was like, but it'd be more fun to like you know, write our own songs, and I had been kind of itching to play music again.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: I kind of just um I'm in see-through dresses, but like half our band um moved away.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Alex is in Colorado and Nate is in California, so we just don't really play very often.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: So I kind of just had the bug again, and like when I was playing with Aaron, I was like, God, this is so fun.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: I like miss this.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Like this is a part of my life that is like kind of gone.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: So like I kind of got that bug again, and um uh but I was like, I don't know if I want to do like guitar.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Um you were very adamant about that, actually.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was like, I I know how to write on guitar, I want to try something else.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Like, this felt like a a new start, like clean slate.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: So I was like, you know what?
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not very good at synth.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: I'd like to be better.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: How I can get better is like playing it in a band.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: So okay, because I was gonna say this is pretty new sonic territory for you, at least as far as I know, because in the previous bands that I've seen you in, you're always playing guitar and sometimes lead singer, sometimes not.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: But I mean, I have all these memories of you jumping around on like a big stack of amps at like Maha 10 years ago or whatever, like you were the guitar front person.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: This is a brand new thing.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Now, so you said it was sort of a conscious decision, like you didn't want to play guitar in a new band, so it wasn't just an evolution, you like decided that uh to do it.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: So, have you always been interested in this sort of darker, more electronic sound?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, who what kind of bands were you listening to when you thought, like, yeah, I could write stuff like this?
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: With like see-through, we kind of explored that a little bit, like we did some synths, but like really like the heart of our band is like rock and roll, and um it's just like synth, like 80s music is like that's like my favorite decade of music, and um, I don't know.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: I guess I'm just like a big depeche mode fan.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Um love Gary Newman.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: We got to see him in October that was awesome.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was very um I like like air and m83 and portis head, the knife.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: What would you say is we really bought it over Gary Newman trying to figure out cars?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: You know what we do like that we couldn't do the the second yeah so how did the how did the name hair person come into?
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, where did you what did you get where'd you get that?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: What is it supposed to, I guess, signify because you stayed in on your bio on your Instagram, right?
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: It says something to the effect which is Instagram dot or slash hair dot person dot band.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: I'll put that on the screen, but you had said something like hair person isn't so much a person, it's like well, I don't know whatever you said.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't have it in front of me, so I don't remember exactly.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: No, that's an American psycho reference.
- 8:31SPEAKER_04: Um, okay.
- 8:33SPEAKER_04: From his monologue at the beginning.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: We're also American psycho fans.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: There's a lot that we bond over because we're soul friends, but you want me to take this one?
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: Um, our daughters named the band, which is great.
- 8:45SPEAKER_04: And I think like um, I think just really taps into sort of what why we came together, like Sarah and I, and also why this works so well, and it's so fun to be doing this right now at our age, I guess.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: And like sort of similar life experiences of being moms of young daughters, but our daughters are really good friends, which is like really lovely and nice, and they love each other.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: And we were at the park um with them.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: And I play this game where I basically make myself look like cousin it, and then them around, and they just started calling it hair person.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: And we had been trying to find a band name and just started jokingly calling ourselves hair person, and then as we thought more about it, we're like, that actually makes a lot of sense and works for like what this is and what we value about this project, and you mentioned your daughters, and that kind of makes me jump up a couple of questions or a second.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: So, in your song May Queen, which closes out the record, there's like conversations between like it sounds like a woman and her daughter or whatever.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Is that you guys?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Or is that do you take that from somewhere else?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: What is that from?
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: One is well, yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: We we asked, um, I am particularly I have a very large uh family, and I asked my in-laws if they would like my sisters-in-law, if they would send in recordings of them talking to their daughters about their relationship, and then Sarah and I did the same thing.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: So that first bit, the long one, is my sister-in-law Stacy and my niece Cora, and it's just so cute and like relevant.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: And we had a bunch of samples from other folks, and we had our own conversation.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: So Sarah and Stevie are talking in the middle, and then it's me and my daughter Lola at the end.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, that turned out that was kind of just like a weird idea that we had to do that in that song.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: That idea, I did, and I think yeah, it's a fun song, it's good in headphones too, because you can hear it a lot better, the conversation and stuff.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: What is your collaborative process when you guys create music?
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm assuming, Sarah, that's a little bit different than your than previous times where you've collaborated.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, or is it more similar to that?
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, yes and no.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Um with like the bands I've done before, it's usually I'll write on guitar and then bring it to the band, and then they write their own parts and then I'll make suggestions.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: But like um, I got this device called um an MPC.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: So um, I mean, Aaron's on drums, so like I I have to write all the other parts.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Like, I have to do I have to do like the synth, the main like synth lines, and then I we need you know, bass, and then like all the other parts.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: So I'm wearing a lot of hats with that.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: But a fucking unicorn, she's so brilliant.
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: It's awesome.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: It was um, it was kind of scary at first because I was like, oh man, I have to like be conductor here and and do all the different parts and then and how they relate to each other, but then um it became kind of fun, like, oh cool, I get to dictate everything.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I I basically like carve out the song in the MPC, and then when it's like cohesive enough, uh we do like it shoots to like I have to put it on like logic, and then we put it into Aaron's pad.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: So it's just a backing track, and so live um I play since and Aaron Aaron does acoustic drums on top of electronic drums.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: I think in terms of like collaboration, as you mentioned, like this is my first band.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: I've wanted to be in a band since I was little, so this is like the best thing in the world.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: I'm so grateful to Sarah when we had this idea, and she was very intentional about what she wanted this band to be.
- 12:51SPEAKER_04: Like, first off, it's two women playing.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: Um, and also like we work around, we both have similar schedules or at similar places in our lives.
- 13:01SPEAKER_04: So, like all of the record was made basically in between like work and then like picking up our kids from school, you know?
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: Like, so managing that and being, I think, like older, right?
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: Like you were like, I don't want to be having like 9 p.m.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: practices, like I don't want to no, I can't do that.
- 13:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we just like can't do it.
- 13:22SPEAKER_04: But I'm also 9 a.m.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: practice?
- 13:24SPEAKER_04: 9 a.m.
- 13:25SPEAKER_04: We did practice this morning that we did do that.
- 13:27SPEAKER_04: Um, but like she has such a deep breadth of experience that like coming to a project like this and with my lack of experience, like I'm so happy that it happened the way that it did.
- 13:39SPEAKER_04: And I this is my first band because I don't know, I don't think it would have been as enjoyable to have all the experience, and now I can just show up like a golden retriever basically and be like, it's the best thing ever.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: I'm here for it.
- 13:52SPEAKER_04: What are we doing today?
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Like, lyrically, uh, Sarah, you know, this does seem to explore some different themes than maybe you've written about in the past.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm not I'm famous for not being willing to interpret other people's lyrics because I'm always wrong, so I don't say what I think it's about.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: But songs like, you know, Ninetales, Parts Model, False Death, they do seem to be like a little bit different than kind of themes that you've sung about in the past.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Is there is there any sort of theme or anything like that to the to the lyrics?
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: I'll say this like a lot of these songs I did write with Erin as well.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: So her voice is included in these.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: And I kind of was sent some lyrics and then kind of just like applied them to songs.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: So I would kind of um write off of that.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: But I would say that there is we did actually we wrote down the themes of our songs.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm trying to think of what they were.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Wendo is like codependency, circle is men are trash.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: I think I wrote I think I wrote a lot of circles.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: I think I only wrote, yeah, your verse, the verses are all well.
- 15:30SPEAKER_04: My job at the time, I'd deal with a lot of trash men.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Um, no, that was both you and both you and I.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Well, look at me.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Look at you.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, look at you, and that's sort of the theme, or at least thematically, there that's the one that has the line, like, I'm sad, but I want to dance.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: That's the one that okay.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: So, like that sort of that seems a little it's like a it's like a um a throwaway Smith's lyric to me.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: It's like I could see Morsey singing it and be like, no, this is oh, that was really a lot, like when we were writing Ninetales.
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: That we were listening to a lot of Morrissey at the time.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, at certain times he was perfect for that.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: But are these subjects maybe that you've never explored in the past that maybe you'd wanted to or themes that you'd wanted to?
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know, exploring more uh I don't know, more of like sex and like my depression, you know, my two favorite topics.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: So this is the cover of the new album.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: It's it's Dorcia, is how you pronounce it?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Dorcia.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, so the album is brand new.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: It is right now it's digital only, it's on the streamers, and you can find it on the band's Bandcamp if you'd actually not you're not a cheapskate and you want to pay a couple of bucks for the album, it's hairperson.bandcamp.com.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: I'll always encourage people to do that as opposed to just streaming because I'm not a fan of streaming personally, but that's just me.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: So, how was this album recorded?
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, how long did it take?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, there's a little bit of credits on your bandcamp, and it says sort of July 2025, but is that um what else could you tell me about the recording of the record?
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: It was so fun, it was so fun.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Um you can go though, because I just showed up like a golden retriever.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Um so February was when I got the NPC, and then I just kind of was very determined to like write as fast as I could.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Um, and the intention was always to write like a full length.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: I I've been in bands where it's just like we were playing locally for two years and we don't put anything out, and people always want to hear it.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: So I was like, I really just want to release something within our first year and just like have something available.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: So as soon as I got the NPC, it was July when we started recording.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: So I was still kind of writing in a way when we set the dates to record.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: So like terraforming was like the 10th song.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: We ended up doing nine, we scrapped one, but like terraforming almost didn't make the record.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was like we finished it like the day before we started.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: But like I kind of just was like, this is what I'm gonna do.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: I'm going to take time off from work and record in July, and we have a week to do it, and um, yeah, we just did it at our home, like we always did.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: That's what my next question was is that it's sad car wash your home studio with you and that you're credited as the producer on that one.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: So is that a first for you, Sarah?
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: It is, yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: I kind of um I kind of just wanted to dictate everything.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: I feel like you did a great job of it.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: I feel like I've been in bands where it has been more collaborative, and that's great.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: And um, but I think I really had a specific vision for this one, and um yeah, it was really fun to wear the producer hat as well.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, it's it's a lot to record yourself at the same time.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: So I'm very grateful for my spouse for um being available to record us.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: But yeah, we did that in like the span of like a week.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about the live show because I saw you I've only seen you live one time that was at the record release show.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: But I will say it's definitely a different presentation um for Sarah than in any of the other bands.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: And I I even said to Matt, like right after the show, I was like, that was a totally different Sarah in that particular show.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: So um you're now transitioning into like the front person, you don't even have guitar.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes you were you behind the keyboard, but there were other times where you came out in front and and and even jumped into the crowd.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: So, how is that working out for you?
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Is this something that you've been holding back for a long time?
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: You've wanted to do it, or this is just you're pushing yourself into this new new sort of style.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: I personally have pushed myself.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: I've always like it's funny because I've been doing a lot of mentoring lately, and but but what I've said about like music is that like when I started playing, I always thought I would just play guitar in a band, and then like you know, uh, I didn't ever envision myself as like the front person, but like I could I like was kind of standing around waiting for it to happen, and it just never did.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: So I was like, you know, I'll just do it myself.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: So I never thought I would get to the spot of of being a front person, especially doing it in the way that I have been doing in this band.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Um it's so easy to play guitar and sing because I just I feel like hey, I have this thing that I can like a security blanket.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Um but like it feels very I feel very exposed just having a microphone.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: And there was like a time there where when I was like practicing with you where I was like, I feel like I don't know, like I was really like nervous to do it.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: I was nervous to sing in front of you and then like which is ridiculous.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: I'm so go along.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: I'm not in anything actually, but in this context, yeah.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: But like, yeah, it just kind of evolved and I just started, you know, what I do live is how we do it in my basement.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: What are what are maybe your future plans for the band?
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Do we have more music?
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Perhaps putting something out on like a physical format or what what's coming up next for the band?
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: That's a great question.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: And um thank you for yeah, thank you for encouraging people to um purchase our album because uh we treated ourselves to um a little lunch date at Freddie's as we as we talked about the future of the band.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: Uh we have talked about doing a physical release.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Um, it's always cool to see, you know, your own vinyl.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but like what's tough about it is like I've also like, you know, I have boxes of vinyl unsold in my basement.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: You know, like it's tough to push if you're not touring.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, do we want to tour?
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: I think that would be I think the answer is yes, but like what that looks like, I don't know as two moms.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Like, I think the whole family would have to come.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: And it would have to be like kind of short.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: So, like, yeah, I we I would like for us to tour.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: I would love for us to release on vinyl at some point, but it doesn't feel like a priority to me.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Um I think the main priority feels like I I really don't want to lose this momentum and I want to keep writing um and write for the second album and try to record it this year so it can be released next year.
- 22:58SPEAKER_04: What's funny about playing, so that I mean, just going back to some of your other questions too about the future or like how we got here, are we planning to release final?
- 23:07SPEAKER_04: What I've always appreciated so much about this, and again, I think it's just because we're in similar life experiences, but I like the idea that we just kind of came out of nowhere because that was kind of it wasn't like intentional so much as it was like we don't have to, because of Sarah's long experience, and because I don't know anything about being in like about this and then learning on the go, um, that we can be kind of you know, just do things the way we want.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: And so, for instance, like we had to pay to master, we recorded this album ourselves, and then we had to pay to master it, but we didn't have any money, so we just put on our own DIY show for free and like had some merch and asked people to donate and made enough to master it, and then like just being smart about yeah, like playing, letting it out there.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: Sarah's so smart about this kind of stuff.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: We really like playing together.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: Um, we really like talking about like what the show will look like and like how to do it and what the set list is gonna look like, and like the pre-show play, like all of those things are super fun for us to talk about and and like think about and dream about.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Um, so we've got big plans, but it's just a matter of getting there, I guess.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Right, you're on your own, you're on your own schedule, your own time frame.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally get it.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Now, I I would be remiss as we wind down the interview if I didn't ask Sarah at least one question about the status of see-through dresses.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Like what what is the status of your your other band?
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, we're actually playing a show.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Um, April 11th at Reverb.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: It's for Aaron's campaign.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Right now, go ahead and tell us about that.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: Oh, I'm running for Nebraska State Legislature because that seemed like something to add on top of everything, too.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: So, but actually they I think they're intertwined and they make they play off each other, the band and what we're doing, and also this campaign and all my other work in that field.
- 25:04SPEAKER_04: So, like playing drums has made me a better person to be able to do my that part of my life.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: So, Sarah, so see through dresses will be doing a fundraiser for your campaign.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but it's open to the public.
- 25:17SPEAKER_04: Love to have everyone.
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, one of the things that makes that legislative district so awesome is it's like Benson, Dundee, you know.
- 25:25SPEAKER_04: Um, it's a lot of creative people doing awesome stuff all the time.
- 25:28SPEAKER_04: And uh so see through dresses and then our other friends, bad self-portraits, and that'll just be a fun, cool Omaha local thing.
- 25:36SPEAKER_04: Sorry, I stole your thunder.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: No, you're good.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Uh that is a thing that we're doing, but um okay.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, with see through, we've been we have like a third release that has been just kind of taken forever and then just hard with people moving away, and so we just and also becoming parents in that time.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: We're just kind of slowly chipping away at it.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: What's sort of tough is my spouse is um like in his last semester of school.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: So like I feel like once that's done, we can really dedicate some time to like finishing it up.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: It's like I don't know, it feels like 35%.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: It sounds really good what you played, Burney.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: We have a lot.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: We we actually might have too many songs, which is a good problem.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: That's yeah, that's a good problem.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: That's better than having too few.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll say this.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: I think um I think Aaron does not give herself enough credit.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Um I'll draw I'll I'll draw a parallel to like becoming a mom and also being in a band with Aaron.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: It's that like I feel like um I've done music for a long time and I just you know, in in a lot of ways I am jaded, but like and then like you know, being an adult and then having a kid, you're also jaded, but like you get to see things through their lens, so it's like exciting for you know just to watch my daughter interact with things for the first time that like it's just so cute and so pure, and but like Aaron, like there were just so many smiles on your face, like when we were recording, and like you know, for me it feels like okay, like it's fun, but it's like I'm I'm going to work, but like you were just having so much.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: I have fun everyone together, and I feel like I get to feel that too.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: This is like which is really rewarding.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: So it's been it's such a joy to play with Aaron.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: You you I'm gonna say something.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: Um I mean, like, truly, I mean, here it is.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: One thing I love so much about this, and I keep alluding to it, but like truly, it's such a wonderful thing to be like partners in this with Sarah.
- 28:03SPEAKER_04: And like, like she said, like our you know, our kids are super important to us.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: And we played a show that was kind of a mess um outdoors, but we played it so that our kids could come and watch it, and they were so cute, like up and they were up in the front dancing with each other.
- 28:20SPEAKER_04: Um, and that was like the best thing in the world, and that they both like request to listen to songs.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Um, they're like, Oh, well, let's play hair person, and that we've been able to integrate them, and that like both of us are on the exact same page and don't question like that those are you know uh priorities to us to be able like and part of the reason we're doing this band is and like have this project is to just like meet each other where we are, and to like have someone who's at the same level, the same space, and just so like naturally and automatically that's what our relationship was like.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: The album by Hair Person is called Dorcia, it just came out.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Like I said, you can find it on their bandcamp, hairperson.bandcamp.com, or you can also find it on the streamers, and uh you can see more about the band at their Instagram page, hair dot person.band, or Instagram, you know, it's whatever, Instagram.com slash whatever.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: I'll put that on the screen.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: The record is great.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, I probably have played it already like 20 times.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: I was getting ready for the interview, so I wanted to have it kind of fresh in my head, but also I played it a bit on the radio, and um uh so we added that thing you do moment, both of us separately was at Costco with her kid, and I was at the museum with mine, and we're both downloading radio apps to listen.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: I'm not a very I'm proud of us for figuring it out.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Figured it out.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Well, all right, let's um we'll probably wrap it up here.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: I want to thank uh both of you guys, uh the band Hair Person for coming in.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Of course, that's Sarah and Aaron, and uh the album, like I said, is called Dorsey.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: You can find it uh very easily on uh uh on the on online, and um yeah, onward and upward for this band.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: A great, great band.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: I will put links to everything below, so anything I've been yammering about, you can find a way to get to it a lot easier uh in the show notes.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: So okay, well, thanks guys.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Thanks, appreciate it.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, absolutely.
