- 1:26You're listening to the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 1:28My name is Rex 45. Thank you for tuning in.
- 1:32We're going to jump right into it.
- 1:34Not a lot to talk about today. There's always a lot to talk
- 1:37about, but I think certain things are are good in in in
- 1:40small bites. So as we've been talking about
- 1:44this is our, I believe it's going to be our 4th episode and
- 1:48it's coming close to offseason. So it's time to start.
- 1:52You know I talked about you getting your bike prepped and
- 1:56all that fun stuff. I ain't talking about your funds
- 1:58because I can't help with that but you know we talked about
- 2:02that and and looking at a new maybe looking at a new race bike
- 2:05or new do you race bike. So we we we spoke about those
- 2:08those things in the last couple of episodes.
- 2:11And today's fitness, you know, and for everyone, it's a little
- 2:15bit different, I think, depending on your age.
- 2:17I'm no expertise, I'm no trainer by any stretch of the
- 2:19imaginations. But you know, everybody got
- 2:22access to the, I shouldn't say everybody, but most people have
- 2:24access to the Internet. So there's a lot of things that
- 2:27you can just do your own research on if you don't already
- 2:29have a trainer. But if you've been racing for a
- 2:31little while, you already thinking about training, you're
- 2:33already thinking about eating healthy, you're already thinking
- 2:36about building back up your your muscle mass so you can get
- 2:39through the season and stuff like that if you are.
- 2:41First season rider and you've only gotten in a couple of
- 2:46rounds. You know a couple of rounds and
- 2:48you know not that much. If you're still on the fence you
- 2:51may not be thinking about your shape yet.
- 2:54If you know if you I think if you want to decide if you're
- 2:57going to stick it out, I think you're going to say okay, let me
- 2:59look at my shape. Let me look at being in shape to
- 3:02make sure I can. You know I can ride the bike for
- 3:05the, for the, you know, the length of the duration of a
- 3:07race, because for me. In 20 I think it was 2014.
- 3:13It was my second year in and I took a class shout out to
- 3:17Penguin Racing school. I took a class at Penguin Racing
- 3:19School and and you know my issue was I I wasn't strong enough.
- 3:23So you know, I couldn't, like eventually I just got fatigue
- 3:28and you know, I asked the question, you know, what can you
- 3:30do when you when you're tired, what, you know, thinking, you
- 3:33know, maybe you might say hey do this, do that, but it's really
- 3:36like work out, that's it, There's there's there's no,
- 3:38there's no answer to fatigue. You have to work out so you
- 3:42know, depending on what kind of bike you're on, you know, you
- 3:45know where there is, you know, 400CC bike or whether it's a you
- 3:49know, middle weight bike or a super bike or you know you for
- 3:53different. You know if you the faster the
- 3:54bike is, the more shape you have to be in.
- 3:56How do I say fast and more powerful, right, The more shape
- 3:59you have to be in, right. So definitely the offseason is a
- 4:03good time to to build that up. And because it's harder in in in
- 4:08during this when the seasons start because you know unless
- 4:11you can only unless you're the type of person that only race
- 4:13and that's all you do Okay sure. But for most people they got day
- 4:16jobs and stuff like that. So it it makes it harder.
- 4:18But I find that if you work out to a certain level, I would
- 4:22probably say for me to act like you're training for a marathon.
- 4:27Because then when the seasons start, you're still, you know,
- 4:29by the end of the season you're still going to start to get
- 4:31fatigue is you're not going to be able to workout as much as
- 4:34you can when you're not racing and when you're not traveling
- 4:37and such. So the offseason is a good time
- 4:41just to really just beef up yourself.
- 4:43Get into shape you want to be in.
- 4:44So that way when the season start the first couple of rounds
- 4:48you know you're in you're in really good shape so that's
- 4:50going to make you feel better so give you more confidence that
- 4:53you that you can actually now break and not and not worry
- 4:56about your arms collapse and or whatever the case may be Or you
- 4:58know thinking about if it's if you want to do like one of the
- 5:02one of the Gto's the GTU races or something like that right.
- 5:05You know, you know you can do that.
- 5:07Or if you want to do a 8 lap or whatever it is, it is when you
- 5:10know that your body's not going to fail you.
- 5:13On the bike and it's a lot, it's easier to go racing, you know
- 5:17what I mean? Because you're not going to be
- 5:19tired, you're not going to be winded.
- 5:21You just going to, you just going to keep jumping on the
- 5:22bike and keep jumping on the bike and and that's going to
- 5:25just really improve things a lot.
- 5:26So definitely, if you're a new rider, look at different ways to
- 5:31work out most folks that race is, you know, cycling.
- 5:38Running because it's mostly lower body, abs, abs and lower
- 5:42body, your arms need to be in some shape.
- 5:44But if you look at the top Moto GP riders, none of them.
- 5:48I mean maybe Andre and Nonay, who's coming back, He was
- 5:51probably the most Jack rider in in Moto GP.
- 5:54So you don't have to be jacked to go ride a bike fast, but you
- 5:58do have to have endurance. You have to have your legs
- 6:00underneath you because a lot of it is your legs and and your
- 6:03abs. So if you got it underneath, you
- 6:05and your abs can hold you up and your legs can.
- 6:07And your legs can hold you up. You're gonna find riding is a
- 6:11lot easier. So a lot of cycling for the for
- 6:14everybody. But you know, for the old
- 6:15timers, you know all the people up there is obviously it's
- 6:18better to to be cycling than running.
- 6:20But either way it is about getting your endurance up.
- 6:23So, you know, definitely plan that in your offseason.
- 6:26And and get that going because you know that's that's the
- 6:30that's the biggest part of this whole thing is like once you're
- 6:32in shape, a lot of things become easier.
- 6:35Now it's just a matter of you know, learning your riding style
- 6:39or figuring out your riding style or how you want to ride
- 6:42and stuff like that and and and then just trying to get out
- 6:45there and just worry about see time.
- 6:47You don't have to worry about being fatigued.
- 6:48So, you know, offseason. You know, yoga is a good thing.
- 6:54Like I said, I cycle a lot, so I get a lot of cycling.
- 6:57I do situps like almost every day I tend to do pushups at
- 7:00these point. I don't, I don't really lift
- 7:02weights. I curl with weights and stuff
- 7:03like that and do some shoulder exercise with weights.
- 7:05But for the most part I I I really I just, it's more just
- 7:09endurance and it's mostly legs, squats and stuff like that,
- 7:12lateral squats, all that things. And just make sure that you
- 7:15know. Think about it.
- 7:16You know when you're on the bike and your body's hurting.
- 7:19The thing about all the muscles that are hurt and and look at
- 7:21exercises to strengthen those muscles you know what I mean?
- 7:25But you know that's that's kind of it in a nutshell.
- 7:28Obviously if you're on a smaller bike you don't have to work out
- 7:31as hard. I know there's riders out there
- 7:33that are bigger riders and stuff like that and and you you know
- 7:36you find time to relax on the bike when you can and stuff like
- 7:39that. So you know being in shape is is
- 7:41great but obviously you know like yeah there's definitely
- 7:44times on on certain tracks that you can rest in certain point
- 7:47and and relax as much. Well, you should be.
- 7:49Relaxed as much as possible right because that's the biggest
- 7:51fatigue is is when you're just tense all the time you know.
- 7:55So being relaxed is is the key but you know also finding where
- 7:59you can rest on the on the track and and and where you have to
- 8:01use your body. So, but you need to be in some
- 8:04shape you know and I think most riders are in shape because
- 8:07their muscles give out on them and and then they won't be
- 8:10riding. So you know that's that let's
- 8:14get into what's going on in in Moto GP because the rounds
- 8:17coming up. There in India at the end of
- 8:21this week, which I'm looking forward to but the big news is
- 8:24Frankie Mobadelli got signed to Primac Racing and I'm I'm I'm
- 8:29excited for that. We talked about that way we
- 8:31would go away we would go I I kind of figured he was going to
- 8:34end up on a a Ducati but it wasn't sure if it was going to
- 8:36be Grassini or or Primac at this point because the factory seats
- 8:40are already taken and also be off 46.
- 8:43So you know that that's huge for Frankie because he I do think.
- 8:49You know from what I've seen him, you know when he wanted the
- 8:53world title for Moto 2 and and his riding style and you know
- 8:57and then even when he was on Honda and and started winning
- 9:00and stuff like that on the 2019, like you know I still have to
- 9:05assume he's one of the best riders in the Academy.
- 9:08You know, I I I feel that way even though it doesn't seem like
- 9:10that because the way he is because of the knee injury and
- 9:14then you know, riding. On the Yamaha which outside of
- 9:19Fabio who now obviously is also struggling, they were struggling
- 9:24early on on that bike. So I do feel he is the best
- 9:27rider at the point at at at this point in in the VR46 Academy.
- 9:33But his his Rd. was just different than than PECO right
- 9:37And you see like Bez who's doing really well on the VR46 and and
- 9:42shout out to Bez for that right? Because he, I think it was
- 9:45helpful for him. It was.
- 9:46It was. Primary was his to lose you know
- 9:49I I I think and and Rossi you spoke to him about it.
- 9:52I have no idea what they talked about but he you probably kind
- 9:55of say hey yo you know I owe you one or something like that or we
- 9:59even or something like that right.
- 10:00Because at the end of the day more Badelli's coming from a
- 10:03factory team right. And so not to not to say VR46
- 10:08Academy is not a top tier team, but they kind of like you know
- 10:11them and they're they're below Grossini because they just, you
- 10:15know, they're like three years in, right?
- 10:18So you have to you know you have to really look at it that way
- 10:19that you know so you know them and Grassini are probably about
- 10:23the same you know what I'm saying but they kind of there.
- 10:25So for Bez and the way Bez has been riding this year he he
- 10:29probably should have got that Primax seat.
- 10:31So he he definitely have to give that up for more Badelli.
- 10:34And you know which is huge you know what I'm saying because I I
- 10:37I think if it if it wasn't if they weren't part of an Academy.
- 10:41You know writer is going to do that.
- 10:42I don't believe everybody wants to seat and and that's what it
- 10:46is right. You're fighting for your seat
- 10:47and you going to hold onto your seat as long as you can.
- 10:49So seeing you know Frankie Morbidelli getting assigned to
- 10:53Primac is is great. I you know looking at what Mark
- 10:57Marquette not Marquez we we'll find out what's going to happen
- 11:01with him. But looking at what Alex Marquez
- 11:03has done since moving to Ducati, I suspect.
- 11:10You know Morbid is going to have the same kind of year, but I
- 11:12think the feedback he's going to get from you know Peco and from
- 11:17Bez, I think he's going to, he's going to speed up.
- 11:20And if once he's once, I assume he's still on the contract with
- 11:23Yamaha so he can't test ride AVR AV4S or V or VR VR4 or our
- 11:32version of of of the Pentagon of V4 can't talk today, I don't
- 11:36know. But you know what I mean that.
- 11:38You know, so I think once he gets up to speed, so I'm looking
- 11:41forward to next year and seeing what he does on that bike and
- 11:44and I'm happy that he at least get one year and and you know,
- 11:47listen, I feel bad for, I think did San Antonio is going to lose
- 11:52his seat which is it which is the downside you know what I
- 11:57mean? You know, because it's so I
- 12:00don't want to say cutthroat. But if you're if you're not like
- 12:03an elite rider. If you don't.
- 12:05If you're not really shining right away Moto GP like you know
- 12:08you know your first year look at look at Fernandez.
- 12:12He hasn't resigned yet with gas. Gas right.
- 12:15I mean I feel bad because pay don't need to go somewhere but
- 12:18you know I mean he hasn't resigned to Jane Antonio only
- 12:21you know he's only a couple of years in.
- 12:22You know, you look at Ika Luko, owner who, you know, I to me, I
- 12:26felt he didn't get a good, a good, good.
- 12:29Like that that that was cold. You look at when you know Lowe's
- 12:32when he came in. You know you look at when
- 12:34Reading came in you know and so it it it's one of those things
- 12:39where you're like you don't know where it it's going to go.
- 12:42So you know that Moto GP ride it is crazy.
- 12:45So who knows the to where Mark Marquez is going to go for for
- 12:50for next year. But you know there's only a
- 12:52couple of seats left there's only two to the KTM and there's
- 12:55a Ducati seat so. And Pedro at the moment, because
- 12:59Viete and Anchu are on, you know, Akiyawa for next year, so
- 13:06he has to go somewhere. So he's either going on a Ducati
- 13:09or he's going on a KTM&KTM, ain't try and give him up.
- 13:11So I I feel like he's going to be on gas.
- 13:15Gas, you know, Pedro, that is. So it'll be interesting to see
- 13:19if Mark Marquez elect to jump from Honda in 2024 or ride it
- 13:24out. You know there's a side of me
- 13:26that says you know he should ride it out right to to to be
- 13:32the team player because Honda took care of him when he was
- 13:36riding high. You know, So I I there is a side
- 13:40of me that says like that that loyalty thing.
- 13:42And I don't. It seems to me you know and you
- 13:46know, I have no access to Moto GP like that, but it seems to be
- 13:50Marquez got treated better. Then Rossi got treated because
- 13:55Rossi left and went to Yamaha, even though he he won titles
- 13:58with them. You know what I mean?
- 14:01So and and and so, you know, I think that there's something
- 14:04there that, you know, he Marquez might have to take an L for
- 14:082024, you know what I mean? And just write out the contract
- 14:11and then see what happens after that.
- 14:13A lot of dudes are on one year contract, so there's going to be
- 14:16a lot of teams. Up for grabs.
- 14:18So next year is going to be very cutthroat in that sense that
- 14:21there's still going to be a lot of riders, you know, fighting
- 14:23for their seat, you know, even though Bastionini has been hurt,
- 14:30like, you know, like his seat's up for grab after 2024.
- 14:34So you never know what's going to happen.
- 14:37This is a quick recap. This is the Be Forever Cool
- 14:39podcast. My name is Rex 45.
- 14:41Comment. Tell me what you think.
- 14:43You disagree? You agree?
- 14:45Let's find out. Peace.
