- 0:37Speaker 3: All right for leasure? Say, brother, so you say fit
- 0:39Speaker 3: for an Autopsy release your seventh studio album, Nothing that Is.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It's Friday, October twenty fifth. How you feel in sci flictote?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Is it gonna be a relate to get it out?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Is it gonna be a bit of sway?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Uh, Relief's a good word. Yeah, there's a lot that
- 0:55Speaker 2: goes into this kind of stuff. So, you know, release
- 0:59Speaker 2: days always nice because all the all the work's done,
- 1:02Speaker 2: everything's out there in the world for everyone to enjoy.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And uh yeah, I mean it's it's Uh, it was
- 1:09Speaker 2: a fun record to make.
- 1:10Speaker 1: It wasn't really like it wasn't too we kind of
- 1:15Speaker 1: we kind of know what we want.
- 1:16Speaker 2: To do now or ale's pretty high, like we're we're
- 1:19Speaker 2: all just excited about it. You know. I think it's
- 1:21Speaker 2: gonna be a fun week and a fun cycle of
- 1:24Speaker 2: tour and for everybody.
- 1:26Speaker 3: So tell us a bit more about the album from
- 1:28Speaker 3: a musical boy of view might and what you're gone
- 1:30Speaker 3: for with it?
- 1:31Speaker 1: What was I going for? I mean, I don't know.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I think it's the same thing I always go for,
- 1:37Speaker 2: I guess with with with Fit records, you know, it's
- 1:41Speaker 2: sort of a reflection on how I feel about the world.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And you know, this record's no different in a sense
- 1:48Speaker 2: from any of the previous ones on the place that
- 1:50Speaker 2: it comes from. You know, it probably just gets a
- 1:52Speaker 2: little more frustrated from album to album, but you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: the past few records, I feel like it's sort of
- 2:00Speaker 2: really found itself. And we know, we're very comfortable in
- 2:03Speaker 2: our own skin. Now, we know what we want to do.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We can play to our strengths and stuff, and we're
- 2:08Speaker 2: just refining the thing that we think is ours, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and a lot of this record came together very naturally
- 2:16Speaker 2: because of that.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We sort of have the confidence to.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Write the songs that we like and listen to the
- 2:23Speaker 2: stuff that we you know, listen back to what we
- 2:25Speaker 2: want to hear, and know like, all right, if we
- 2:27Speaker 2: like it, that's it, it's done, you know.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So it was, uh, it was kind of we're kind
- 2:33Speaker 1: of that's zone this time.
- 2:36Speaker 2: We're just having fun making the music we want to make,
- 2:38Speaker 2: making some good points in the process, and yeah, it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: pretty much it.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Oh and you released the singles Hostage and Cyberer of
- 2:45Speaker 3: Non Ashes of Holes. So what you say, over roll
- 2:47Speaker 3: there are a good sonic representation of what do expect?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I mean there's there's a good amount of there's a
- 2:54Speaker 2: lot of tricks on this record.
- 2:56Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Obviously the band over the years is morphed into different
- 3:00Speaker 2: things and we go we take songs to different places.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But I think there's a lot of variety on this album.
- 3:05Speaker 2: So uh, you know, when we write records, we still
- 3:09Speaker 2: make records to be listened to as records, so there
- 3:13Speaker 2: will be plenty of curveballs still come in on the
- 3:17Speaker 2: album for sure, you know, some more adventurous tunes and
- 3:21Speaker 2: some strip back stuff.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Like there's a good range.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And influence from a lot of different areas of extreme
- 3:28Speaker 2: music that I think you'll find on the album. So
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's always hard to pick one or two songs to
- 3:32Speaker 2: represent a record, I think for us.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So I always encourage people to give the whole thing
- 3:37Speaker 1: a go.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Now, Hostage is actually the first song on the album
- 3:41Speaker 3: to an absolutely bang of it in the modern age
- 3:44Speaker 3: of music, how much thoughts still goes into the opening
- 3:47Speaker 3: track of an album because a lot of people don't
- 3:49Speaker 3: really listen to it in the order you said it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: These days, I mean, we've like done it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: We've we've had introts do different things, you know, we've
- 3:57Speaker 2: had stuff.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It kind of just goes right out the gate.
- 4:01Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:01Speaker 1: The last record I had more of like.
- 4:02Speaker 2: A longer winded, sort of winded style intro, which was
- 4:07Speaker 2: really cool when we were starting sex with it, and
- 4:10Speaker 2: it felt cool, you know, this time for me Hostage.
- 4:13Speaker 2: We came to the song because it was it kind of
- 4:15Speaker 2: felt more like the bridge between the two records, like
- 4:18Speaker 2: lyrically where that song had sort of landed, and even
- 4:22Speaker 2: sonically it was like, you know, there's there's themes in
- 4:26Speaker 2: that song about not being able to kind of escape
- 4:29Speaker 2: your past or your future, and you know, our last
- 4:32Speaker 2: record was called All with the Future Holds, and it
- 4:35Speaker 2: was like I kind of saw that song as like
- 4:37Speaker 2: a connection kind of following off the last record, So
- 4:41Speaker 2: it felt cool. It felt cool as an opener in
- 4:44Speaker 2: that sense, you know, And I think musically it's also
- 4:49Speaker 2: a cool bridge because it pulls from some of the
- 4:51Speaker 2: stuff we had landed on the last record and sort
- 4:54Speaker 2: of start as just a natural continuation, and plus we
- 4:58Speaker 2: all really liked the songs. Obviously having the lead off
- 5:00Speaker 2: track be a good song, it's cool, you know.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It sort of touched on It's before My But the
- 5:07Speaker 3: press release says that nothing that is is built to
- 5:10Speaker 3: me listen to, and it's entirety in a single listen. Like,
- 5:15Speaker 3: I agree with you, Brian, Like I'd rather listen to
- 5:16Speaker 3: an album like that. But as I said before, in
- 5:18Speaker 3: the modern night age where people it's chuck on the
- 5:20Speaker 3: press shuffle, like, people just don't get before experience the
- 5:24Speaker 3: albums anymore, do they.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I mean, it depends who you ask, you know. I think,
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know, the people who are real into our band
- 5:33Speaker 2: are the people that I would prefer to make music for.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I think anybody wants to make music for people who
- 5:41Speaker 2: get it, you know, and so it's like it's for them,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know, It's it's for us and it's for them.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's like, this is how we want to this is
- 5:50Speaker 2: the type of record we want to make, and they'll,
- 5:52Speaker 2: you know, the people who are really into Fit will
- 5:55Speaker 2: appreciate that we put albums together with that sort of attention,
- 6:00Speaker 2: care and enjoy it, you know, and then the guy
- 6:02Speaker 2: who hits shuffle on Spotify. That's cool, that's what singles
- 6:05Speaker 2: are for, you know.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and nothing that is follows your twenty twenty two
- 6:09Speaker 3: album What the Future Holds, which is also your highest
- 6:12Speaker 3: shotting release, might So was it tempting to rehash that
- 6:16Speaker 3: winning formula or was it important for the band to
- 6:18Speaker 3: sip things off a bit?
- 6:21Speaker 2: No, I don't think anybody cares, you know. I mean,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's cool that the band is growing, for sure. It's nice,
- 6:29Speaker 2: like we like that the shows are getting bigger and
- 6:31Speaker 2: getting cool opportunities.
- 6:33Speaker 1: But we don't.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Follow a formula that requires us to be stuck in
- 6:39Speaker 2: one place anyway.
- 6:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I think some of the stuff that was more memorable
- 6:44Speaker 2: or broke out the band over time has been the
- 6:47Speaker 2: stuff that was left field. So no, you know, we're
- 6:53Speaker 2: not like a numbers band. We've always been like a
- 6:55Speaker 2: slow growing band that builds organic fans. We don't buy
- 7:02Speaker 2: likes or plays or do any play any of those
- 7:05Speaker 2: kind of games. It's just like we're able to have
- 7:08Speaker 2: a career doing what we want, and I don't see
- 7:11Speaker 2: that lane of commercial success really makes sense for a
- 7:17Speaker 2: band like us and the style of music that we play.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So it's like we're just figuring out how to be
- 7:22Speaker 2: comfortable and sustainable doing what we do, you know.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So like, if it.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Sells more records, cool, If it sells the same amount, cool,
- 7:30Speaker 2: If it sells less, it seems like it's still by
- 7:33Speaker 2: no one really cares, you know, but I think it's
- 7:38Speaker 2: going to sell more actually, so that's cool.
- 7:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:41Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I don't know where we're at right.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Now, but it's coming out this weekend where we've been
- 7:46Speaker 2: moving stuff, you know, and it's streaming good, better than
- 7:50Speaker 2: we have in the path, So it looks like it
- 7:53Speaker 2: looks like everything's working out, you know, which is exciting.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But if it was, if it was where we were
- 8:00Speaker 2: last time or smart, I'd still be happy.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I'm still happy with the record totally, you know.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, now you're well, sorry, produce nothing that is So
- 8:08Speaker 3: what are some of the advantages and disadvantages of caping
- 8:10Speaker 3: that in house?
- 8:14Speaker 2: It's a very you know, I'm very comfortable making my
- 8:17Speaker 2: own music for sure, you know, to the point where
- 8:21Speaker 2: you know, these other producers and stuff that I respect
- 8:24Speaker 2: and think too good work. But I wouldn't put them
- 8:26Speaker 2: through recording me because I just know what I want,
- 8:29Speaker 2: you know, I know what I want the record to
- 8:32Speaker 2: sound like, I know what the themes are, I know
- 8:33Speaker 2: how I want the songs to feel, what to take.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Like way is like I'm just happy to make my
- 8:41Speaker 2: own records, uh in that sense, because it's like I'm
- 8:44Speaker 2: not looking for something that I can't that isn't here.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I don't think I would.
- 8:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I've tried to like bounce stuff off people before.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's like people who I respect, whose opinions I like
- 8:56Speaker 2: back and if they tell me something sucks, I should
- 8:59Speaker 2: listen to them, you know. Like so I've tried to, like,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know, find a guy or two in the past
- 9:07Speaker 2: and then you know, I'll get some feedback back and stuff,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and I'll I'll give it a fair shake.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Let me think about that, and in the end, I.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Still kind of just do what I want anyway. So
- 9:18Speaker 2: it's just yeah, I mean that's that's why I make music,
- 9:22Speaker 2: you know. It's like it's an outlet selfishly for me,
- 9:26Speaker 2: and I could share that with other people and if
- 9:27Speaker 2: people like it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Cool, you know. But I don't actually think I'm built to.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Be told not to do something with the art that
- 9:37Speaker 2: I want to make, so I I, uh yeah, I
- 9:40Speaker 2: just struggle with finding anyone else but me to do it.
- 9:43Speaker 2: And in that struggle it's very creatively fulfilling, but it
- 9:47Speaker 2: also puts a lot of pressure on me to get
- 9:49Speaker 2: it all done. So, you know, it comes with its
- 9:51Speaker 2: own baggage, and I'm the problem solver that I have
- 9:55Speaker 2: to be the problem solver all the time. But I like,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I like working through that. You know, it's the part
- 10:01Speaker 2: of the it's the part of making music that I
- 10:04Speaker 2: like somehow still enjoy here.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So I'm I'm happy. I'm happy in the role that
- 10:10Speaker 1: I have with that.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I just say, someone stumbled upon this interview mate, and
- 10:14Speaker 3: then they're liking what they hear, and like, give us
- 10:16Speaker 3: three songs that they could listen to for not obviously
- 10:19Speaker 3: to introduce them to the band. If they could be
- 10:21Speaker 3: from anywhere in your Korea.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's cool anywhere. Huh what are we thinking? Uh? Well,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I feel like Black.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Mammoth off of the Great Collapse was a cool moment
- 10:35Speaker 2: for us. It was like, you know, we had done
- 10:38Speaker 2: some pretty socially aware of songs in the past, and
- 10:41Speaker 2: that one struck a chord more than anything we had
- 10:44Speaker 2: done at that point for for one reason or another,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and it was sort of like the one that like
- 10:49Speaker 2: kind of really helped accelerate the band. I feel, so
- 10:54Speaker 2: that's like an important song for Fit, So I think
- 10:58Speaker 2: it was cool to It's cool as an introduction to
- 11:02Speaker 2: the band for sure, because I feel like that song
- 11:03Speaker 2: probably got a lot of people into the band, you know.
- 11:06Speaker 2: So I'd say I'd say Black Mammoth would be one.
- 11:12Speaker 2: The song Far from Heaven off our last record would
- 11:16Speaker 2: probably be two. That's sort of a bit of like
- 11:20Speaker 2: a more pulled back, groovy kind of song that has
- 11:23Speaker 2: like some more melodic influences, And I think off this record,
- 11:29Speaker 2: maybe I would pick a song like Red Horizon, which
- 11:32Speaker 2: isn't quite out yet, but I'm really excited for people
- 11:35Speaker 2: to hear that song. It's another like important song socially
- 11:40Speaker 2: with a good message.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Sort of more of a more of a.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Commentary on some current events going on in the Middle East.
- 11:49Speaker 2: And I think as an instrumental it's one of my
- 11:52Speaker 2: favorite songs I've ever put together. It covers a lot
- 11:54Speaker 2: of you really want to see what the band is about.
- 11:57Speaker 2: There's a lot of twist and turns in that song,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and I feel like it's a really balanced in.
- 12:02Speaker 1: A cool way. So those would be my three.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Before we like you guy might I've started a new
- 12:07Speaker 3: segment called fighter Bomb, where basically before I shot with
- 12:11Speaker 3: the scale through the internet and I find some pictures
- 12:14Speaker 3: for the band and just want to talk a little
- 12:16Speaker 3: bit more about them. So, okay, I've found this one, mate, Like,
- 12:20Speaker 3: is that not a gig on the side of the highway.
- 12:23Speaker 2: That looks like after Shock, which is a sick festival
- 12:29Speaker 2: in Sacramento that it played.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I want to say last year.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I played it this year with Betrelovers, which is why
- 12:36Speaker 2: I recognize that overpass. But I believe that it's a
- 12:40Speaker 2: show in Sacramento, California, and it's an awesome festival.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And is it right beside the highway?
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of in between.
- 12:47Speaker 2: There's like a little park area and some overpasses that
- 12:51Speaker 2: you kind of just walk around.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I guess to have a show, don't get.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Anything all that in Australia like sych flies to a
- 12:57Speaker 3: mind ride by that it's awesome.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And the other one I found was this one. You
- 13:05Speaker 3: guys look very very happy to be in amongst Balloon say,
- 13:09Speaker 3: what's going.
- 13:09Speaker 1: On that looks like the end of a European tour.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I can tell by the misery of it's probably cold
- 13:19Speaker 2: out because I see jackets and it looks like they're
- 13:23Speaker 2: coming to the end of spending a winner in Europe,
- 13:25Speaker 2: and I think that's what most people look like after
- 13:28Speaker 2: that process.
- 13:30Speaker 1: But yeah, I remember where they did the balloon shot.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I know they were on tour with thy Art because
- 13:35Speaker 2: I remember some of these balloon shots from them too,
- 13:38Speaker 2: but I don't remember exactly where it was, but I
- 13:40Speaker 2: know it was a funny bit.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Everyone was taking balloon photos. Very good matter.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I will well, thanks very much for tom that I
- 13:47Speaker 3: might be a pleasure catching up with the end of
- 13:48Speaker 3: the new album. The Nothing That Is is out this
- 13:51Speaker 3: spot Ay, October twenty fifth and is an absolute fucking
- 13:54Speaker 3: banging make thing. Gratulations and hopefully we see you out
- 13:56Speaker 3: in Australia.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah man, I'll be there next year for sure, not
- 14:01Speaker 2: sure when, and I know Fit's making plans to get
- 14:04Speaker 2: over there now.
- 14:06Speaker 1: So hopefully soon we have some stuff the ounce.
- 14:09Speaker 3: All right, brother, enjoyed the rest of you die in
- 14:10Speaker 3: good luck with the album.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Brither awesome man. I appreciate you, la, I was as
