- 0:47Speaker 2: TV Live. I'm Pastor Chuck Reese, show host, executive producer.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Super excited to have Katie R. Dale on again with
- 0:54Speaker 2: us today. She's the author of But Deliver Me From Crazy.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Good to see you, Katie.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It's great to be here, Pastor Chuck. Thank you.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Good. And we are live. And is it okay to
- 1:06Speaker 2: let everybody know that you're in Germany quite a few
- 1:08Speaker 2: hours ahead of us, but it's always right now, wherever
- 1:11Speaker 2: you are in the world, right?
- 1:12Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:15Speaker 2: That's good. And so, yeah, for those listening to the
- 1:19Speaker 2: podcast audio later, katierdale.com and katie at bipolarbrave.com is our
- 1:27Speaker 2: email address. We're talking about bipolar today because it's a,
- 1:32Speaker 2: to me, I think there's a stigma to it. And
- 1:34Speaker 2: also it's a turned into a five cent word. It's
- 1:36Speaker 2: a really serious thing, but anybody, you know, in your
- 1:39Speaker 2: life that's has emotional highs and emotional lows, they start
- 1:43Speaker 2: labeling them with bipolar. So first of all, give us
- 1:45Speaker 2: a little insight into you, maybe some of your background and,
- 1:49Speaker 2: We'll get into why you wrote the book.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, sure. So when I was 15, 16, on the
- 1:57Speaker 3: cusp of changing schools from a public school to a
- 2:01Speaker 3: private Christian school attached to the church we went to,
- 2:04Speaker 3: I decided I would like to have a biblical education,
- 2:10Speaker 3: Christian worldview exposure to that kind of education and fell
- 2:17Speaker 3: into a deep depression that year, that fall. And it
- 2:21Speaker 3: turned into some suicidal ideation. And we saw the doctor
- 2:26Speaker 3: psychiatrist who then put me on some medications and I
- 2:31Speaker 3: started seeing some weight gain, rapid weight gain. And we
- 2:35Speaker 3: addressed that through changing the medicine, but we went straight
- 2:40Speaker 3: up changing the medicine without tapering. And that sent me
- 2:44Speaker 3: into a manic psychosis state. where I heard voices and
- 2:48Speaker 3: I was very scared. Um, this was my new, I
- 2:52Speaker 3: was 16 and I had, um, a lot of anxiety
- 2:57Speaker 3: and it just spiraled out of control. I was admitted
- 3:00Speaker 3: into the hospital, the local, uh, hospital in the area
- 3:04Speaker 3: with a children's juvenile psych unit that they had, which
- 3:09Speaker 3: was actually very, you know, it was an inpatient experience.
- 3:13Speaker 3: So I had to, it was a kind of a
- 3:16Speaker 3: a shock of like being in an inside a hospital
- 3:20Speaker 3: like that. But it was a three week stay and,
- 3:25Speaker 3: you know, by the grace of God, the medicine, the doctors,
- 3:29Speaker 3: the therapies, I returned to recover. I eventually graduated high
- 3:35Speaker 3: school on time. And then I went on to college.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I was medic, you know, using the medicine and going
- 3:42Speaker 3: through therapy and be able to, I was able to live,
- 3:46Speaker 3: high functioning, normal life. When I was in college, I
- 3:52Speaker 3: met my husband online and he was, it was very
- 3:56Speaker 3: distant relationship. We were like a whole country apart, pretty much.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I was in New York, he was in Florida while
- 4:05Speaker 3: we dated. So the internet and the boom of online
- 4:10Speaker 3: dating and everything at that time was a new thing.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But Yeah, we made it work. And then three years
- 4:17Speaker 3: into our marriage, I went off my medicine thinking I
- 4:20Speaker 3: had been healed. This was just this fluke thing when
- 4:24Speaker 3: I was 16.
- 4:25Speaker 4: It was hormones.
- 4:26Speaker 3: It was them putting on a medicine like this. And yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 3: I ended up back in the hospital for three months.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And I just had to learn the hard way, like
- 4:35Speaker 3: by the grace of God, he's given me those meds
- 4:37Speaker 3: to address this. It's chronic, it's lifelong, but you know what?
- 4:41Speaker 3: I am going to thank the Lord for answering my
- 4:44Speaker 3: prayers for healing that way.
- 4:46Speaker 2: For sure. We're body, soul, and spirit. And again, where
- 4:52Speaker 2: I sit 4,100 interviews later, I would say I've got
- 4:56Speaker 2: a really good sample of the body of Christ. Very
- 4:59Speaker 2: diverse from the Pentecostals who expect God to jump through
- 5:03Speaker 2: their hoops, love them to death, love their zeal. I
- 5:06Speaker 2: expect God to move. I ask God to move, but
- 5:08Speaker 2: I'm not telling him what to do. So there's some
- 5:11Speaker 2: people that are just telling God, oh, healing now.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Oh, right, right.
- 5:15Speaker 2: God's timing is always perfect. And I appreciate their heart
- 5:18Speaker 2: and their zeal. And we're expecting God to do great things.
- 5:21Speaker 2: We don't tell God what to do. He tells us
- 5:23Speaker 2: what to do.
- 5:23Speaker 4: That's right.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And I've seen in some circles where the faith of
- 5:27Speaker 2: the preacher or the evangelist or the prophet, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 2: trying to operate in gifts. If God is telling you, Katie,
- 5:34Speaker 2: to throw away your medicine, then you can throw away
- 5:37Speaker 2: your medicine. But if somebody is telling you in the
- 5:40Speaker 2: church to do that, that's dangerous. A lot of people
- 5:42Speaker 2: bottom out. And again, suicidal, a lot of suicides. I
- 5:46Speaker 2: know some really strong believers. I know one particular worked, yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 2: as president of this ministry and committed suicide on Christmas
- 5:55Speaker 2: Eve of all the nights to do it because I
- 5:58Speaker 2: think he went off his meds.
- 5:59Speaker 4: So mental health.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Matters, faith, and the physical realm. There has to be
- 6:06Speaker 2: a balance here.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Elaborate a little bit more on that. But, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: God raised up doctors and the medical community.
- 6:13Speaker 4: That's right.
- 6:14Speaker 2: You know, the person with the gift of healing, like
- 6:16Speaker 2: Benny Hinn was a big deal back then. He wasn't
- 6:18Speaker 2: going from hospital to hospital, clearing out room from room
- 6:21Speaker 2: from room. Because Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 says
- 6:25Speaker 2: God gives out these gifts as he wills when he
- 6:28Speaker 2: wants to, not when you want to.
- 6:31Speaker 3: On his terms, of course. Yeah. You're preaching to the choir. Right.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So the safety in a multitude of counselors, multitude of counselors,
- 6:43Speaker 2: that would include the medical community, right? Absolutely.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I don't know what I'd do without my psychiatrist. I mean,
- 6:50Speaker 3: without those medicines, I would not, I would probably not
- 6:53Speaker 3: be here because that illness is so severe when I
- 6:56Speaker 3: have it, when I'm unmedicated and untreated, I definitely like,
- 7:01Speaker 3: I'm not myself anymore. in my personality or my habits
- 7:06Speaker 3: or my behaviors. And it's definitely a challenge to function,
- 7:11Speaker 3: just to live.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Well, you seem pretty super duper right now. Is anybody
- 7:16Speaker 2: saying super duper anymore? Is that still a thing? We'll
- 7:20Speaker 2: bring that back.
- 7:21Speaker 3: We'll bring it back. We'll bring that back into circulation.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Praise God. Yes. And it's a big, it's a big topic.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And that's why, again, I'm glad you wrote the book,
- 7:31Speaker 2: Deliver Me From Crazy. which is a spinoff on the
- 7:35Speaker 2: Lord's prayer, you know, just to bring in the Bible
- 7:39Speaker 2: a little bit. We always use Bible gateway. And I
- 7:41Speaker 2: always like to give a little shout out to the
- 7:42Speaker 2: verse of the day, which still happened to be Isaiah 43,
- 7:46Speaker 2: 11 through 12, which was part of my daily Bible
- 7:48Speaker 2: reading today, 40, 43 and 44. I didn't know it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I thought I was 39 days behind, but this was
- 7:54Speaker 2: my area of scripture. So God's making me read it twice,
- 7:57Speaker 2: a third time with Katie, because we talked about it before. I,
- 8:00Speaker 2: even I am the Lord. And besides me, There is
- 8:04Speaker 2: no savior. I have declared and saved. I have proclaimed
- 8:08Speaker 2: and there was no foreign God among you. Therefore you
- 8:11Speaker 2: are my witnesses. And the quote says the Lord that
- 8:15Speaker 2: I am God. First thoughts to that verse after you
- 8:19Speaker 2: read it, what do you think?
- 8:21Speaker 3: John 14, six, Jesus is saying, I am the way,
- 8:25Speaker 3: the truth, the life. No one can come to the
- 8:28Speaker 3: father except through me.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: He's the Lord. He's the Lord.
- 8:32Speaker 4: He's the one who's going.
- 8:33Speaker 3: To save nobody else.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You know, and in a translation, I know this is Jesus,
- 8:38Speaker 2: which we believe is God with some skin on. He's like,
- 8:41Speaker 2: no one can come to me except by me. It's like,
- 8:44Speaker 2: you want to go to Chuck's house? You got to
- 8:46Speaker 2: go to Chuck's house. This is my house.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Yes.
- 8:49Speaker 2: There's no back door. There's no side door.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Right. Right on. Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 2: That's good. So, you know, and in the Gospels, it's
- 8:59Speaker 2: the only thing we have recorded in Scripture. There's a
- 9:01Speaker 2: lot of things Jesus did that were not written down
- 9:04Speaker 2: according to John. And if they were, there probably wouldn't
- 9:06Speaker 2: be enough room in the world for all the books
- 9:08Speaker 2: because he's a part of everything everywhere. I mean, he
- 9:11Speaker 2: created all things by him, through him, for him. Right.
- 9:14Speaker 2: But what we have in the Gospels, the only thing
- 9:16Speaker 2: recorded that they asked him to teach them was Lord,
- 9:20Speaker 2: teach us how to pray. That's the only thing that
- 9:22Speaker 2: we see in Scripture, them asking Jesus to teach them about.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm sure there were some sidebar conversations where maybe they
- 9:29Speaker 2: just weren't recorded in the Gospels. But, you know, deliver
- 9:32Speaker 2: me from evil was part of the pattern. And, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: when you come up with this book, deliver me from crazy,
- 9:42Speaker 2: another phrase, cray-cray. That was going around for a long time.
- 9:47Speaker 2: And my daughter said, Dad, we don't say cray-cray anymore.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I said, no, that says a lot because some people
- 9:51Speaker 2: are cray-cray. Yeah. I mean, there's sometimes– Big word. When
- 9:57Speaker 2: someone's really crazy, criminally insane, 51%. 50, that's a label.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We just can't slap on somebody because they may be
- 10:04Speaker 2: highly emotional in a moment. Thoughts on some of that.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Oh, well, yeah. I mean, to the person who's in
- 10:09Speaker 3: that state of mind, that might trigger them. You're being crazy.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Like when you're in that crazy state, when I was
- 10:17Speaker 3: in those States, I always wanted to deny it. And
- 10:20Speaker 3: I say, I'm creative. I'm not crazy. I'm creative because
- 10:24Speaker 3: in the bipolar, you have that tendency to be creative
- 10:28Speaker 3: and grandiose thoughts and the rapid thoughts that cycle through
- 10:33Speaker 3: your brain. And it's, you're, you're going on 180 different directions.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm ADD, ADHD, all that. And I call it multitasking.
- 10:43Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 4: So yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 3: In bipolar, it's like you could be like that for
- 10:52Speaker 3: a few days and then you'll cycle back into a depression,
- 10:56Speaker 3: a depressed state. And that can be the opposite where
- 10:59Speaker 3: you're just like miserable and suffering and sorrowful and under
- 11:05Speaker 3: that cloud of darkness.
- 11:08Speaker 2: So Deliver Me from Crazy, that's your book. It's on Amazon.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And top left corner, the website's being worked on today,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but come tomorrow and that top left corner will get
- 11:21Speaker 2: you to her website. Katie R. Dale, that QR code there,
- 11:24Speaker 2: or just type in Katie, K-A-T-I-E-R, Dale, D-A-L-E dot com
- 11:30Speaker 2: will get you to her website. How did God put
- 11:33Speaker 2: on your heart to even write the book? When did that?
- 11:35Speaker 2: That's a process, putting pen to paper, right? Well, it's a.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Process, but I had the burden when I was in
- 11:41Speaker 3: the hospital the first time. I told the doctor, the
- 11:44Speaker 3: practicing doctor there who was on the floor, I'm like,
- 11:48Speaker 3: he goes, so what do you think you want to
- 11:50Speaker 3: do when you get out of here? I don't know
- 11:52Speaker 3: why he asked me that, but maybe he's trying to
- 11:54Speaker 3: get my eyes off of the situation around me.
- 11:56Speaker 4: But I go, I want to.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Write a book about this place. This is nuts as
- 12:01Speaker 3: it is. But it's amazing also the people I met there.
- 12:06Speaker 3: because there was some amazing people that were working there
- 12:10Speaker 3: who were like angels to me.
- 12:12Speaker 4: And they just.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Had such a heart for these children. I was impressed.
- 12:16Speaker 3: There was a lady, her name was, I call her
- 12:18Speaker 3: Rosie in the book. And her name was actually Holly,
- 12:21Speaker 3: but she was a miracle. Like she told me she
- 12:27Speaker 3: had fostered or adopted like seven or eight kids, including
- 12:32Speaker 3: had her own children, her own offspring. And then she,
- 12:35Speaker 3: whenever she was making a decision, she'd bring it to
- 12:38Speaker 3: the Lord and like, seek him on it. Like for
- 12:41Speaker 3: like the smallest things. I'm like, wow, I want to
- 12:45Speaker 3: be like you when I grow up.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah. That's interesting. That's, you know, first Thessalonians five is
- 12:53Speaker 2: an amazing, you know, every letter Paul wrote was just
- 12:57Speaker 2: so anointed. You can almost preach on every verse, but
- 13:00Speaker 2: there's a couple at the end of first Thessalonians five that,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'm going to get to pray without ceasing. It's verse 17.
- 13:08Speaker 2: But 16 is rejoice always. That's tied for first place
- 13:14Speaker 2: on the shortest verse. Also, John 11, 32, Jesus wept.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Two words. This is your memory verse for today. Rejoice always.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yes, rejoice always.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Pray without ceasing. That means we don't have to be
- 13:27Speaker 2: on our knees. I saw a bumper sticker. God answers
- 13:29Speaker 2: an e-mail. Well, you know, that's a humble position to
- 13:32Speaker 2: get on your knees and bow before the Lord. I
- 13:34Speaker 2: get that. But all day long as you're praying, as
- 13:37Speaker 2: you're walking, talking with Jesus, right? And in everything, give thanks.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Not for everything. There's some tough stuff that happens in
- 13:44Speaker 2: the world. And he made us emotional creatures. So, you know,
- 13:47Speaker 2: you can't deny emotions and feelings. They're real.
- 13:50Speaker 3: I was just saying that to somebody today. You got
- 13:53Speaker 3: to feel your feelings. They're not evil. They're totally there
- 13:57Speaker 3: for a reason. They indicate things aren't. what's happening, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 3: with the rest of your, your body and your spirit
- 14:04Speaker 3: and your soul. But yeah, I totally agree with the,
- 14:09Speaker 3: you know, acknowledge your feelings, be honest, be real with
- 14:12Speaker 3: God and yourself and go to him with, with it
- 14:16Speaker 3: because we're supposed to humble ourselves before the Lord and
- 14:18Speaker 3: not pretend. And yeah, he's, he sees everything that's going
- 14:22Speaker 3: through our mind. He knows our thoughts. He knows what
- 14:25Speaker 3: we're going to say next, but part of, what I
- 14:28Speaker 3: call a relationship, R-E-A-L, relationship with the Lord, is going
- 14:33Speaker 3: to him and communing with him. And not just a one-way, like, oh, Lord,
- 14:38Speaker 3: pray your prayer. But he's going to answer that prayer.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I believe he answers it in different ways. He's there
- 14:46Speaker 3: in your heart with the Holy Spirit, giving you that still,
- 14:48Speaker 3: small voice. And as long as it filters through and
- 14:51Speaker 3: checks out with scripture, I believe he's speaking to us
- 14:54Speaker 3: all the time.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Amen.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Amen.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So here's a couple more verses after that, as he
- 14:59Speaker 2: ends it in everything, give thanks for this is the
- 15:02Speaker 2: will of God in Christ Jesus for you. So we
- 15:05Speaker 2: want to be in Christ. We want Christ to be
- 15:07Speaker 2: in us. So this is one of those verses. He
- 15:09Speaker 2: flat out tells you what God wants for you, right?
- 15:12Speaker 2: Do not quench the spirit. That's capital S that's Holy spirit.
- 15:16Speaker 2: When God's trying to talk to you, don't go la
- 15:18Speaker 2: la la la la. I'm not listening. Do not despise
- 15:22Speaker 2: prophecies and prophecies is another word for truth. When people
- 15:25Speaker 2: are speaking truth and you don't, Don't despise that. Test
- 15:28Speaker 2: all things. Hold fast to all things. Abstain from every
- 15:31Speaker 2: form of evil. And this last verse is what I
- 15:33Speaker 2: want to get to. Verse 23. Now may the God
- 15:36Speaker 2: of peace. That's the God of the Bible. A lot
- 15:40Speaker 2: of gods in this world. But the God of peace
- 15:42Speaker 2: himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit and
- 15:47Speaker 2: soul and body. I believe we're a triune person just
- 15:52Speaker 2: like we have a triune God. Spirit, soul, body. One God.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You know. or we have one person, Katie, one person,
- 15:59Speaker 2: you're a mom, you're a daughter, you're a wife, you know,
- 16:02Speaker 2: you're an author, still Katie, one person, be preserved blameless
- 16:07Speaker 2: at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who
- 16:09Speaker 2: calls you as faithful will also will do it. So
- 16:12Speaker 2: God's doing this work in you, but it's all three body, soul,
- 16:16Speaker 2: and spirit cameras on tripods. One leg breaks, the camera
- 16:20Speaker 2: falls down.
- 16:21Speaker 3: That's right. That's right.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Yes.
- 16:22Speaker 3: We have to have our brains, you know, Intact. I mean,
- 16:26Speaker 3: they're part of the body. And just like any other organ,
- 16:29Speaker 3: we need that addressed when it gets sick.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And it does.
- 16:33Speaker 2: You see that all the time. It's an organ. It's
- 16:35Speaker 2: an organ.
- 16:35Speaker 3: It's an organ, just like any other.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, aneurysms, strokes. I mean, that's a physical,
- 16:41Speaker 2: real thing. And praise God, he has given us wisdom
- 16:45Speaker 2: and technology to know what certain levels are. I mean, there's,
- 16:48Speaker 2: you know, women have estrogen, testosterone for men. I mean,
- 16:51Speaker 2: there's endorphins. There's all kinds of... chemical reactions that are
- 16:55Speaker 2: going on all through our body and we're able to
- 16:58Speaker 2: figure it out what's out of balance so and again
- 17:02Speaker 2: back to my point i just can't underestimate this point
- 17:05Speaker 2: we can't pray everything away we can ask for healing
- 17:08Speaker 2: and if god moves you'll be the first to know
- 17:11Speaker 2: it and it'll be part of your testimony but if
- 17:13Speaker 2: not the answer to prayer is the wisdom on how
- 17:15Speaker 2: to navigate it and work with it like paul said
- 17:18Speaker 2: take this thorn in my flesh away from me yeah
- 17:21Speaker 2: That wasn't a sin condition. That probably could have been
- 17:23Speaker 2: his eyesight. The fact that Pharisees were vowing to kill him,
- 17:27Speaker 2: whatever it was, it was a body ailment that he
- 17:29Speaker 2: was praying for healing. God says, no, my grace is
- 17:32Speaker 2: sufficient for you.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Right. Right.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Oh yeah. So with praying away, you know, I taught
- 17:40Speaker 3: something a while back on bringing intrusive thoughts under the
- 17:47Speaker 3: authority of Jesus and And it was kind of, it's a,
- 17:51Speaker 3: it's a tool called the PASS method. So P stands
- 17:55Speaker 3: for pause.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Okay.
- 17:57Speaker 3: When the intrusive thought enters your head and your mind
- 18:00Speaker 3: and you're like, okay, don't fight it. Just pause. A
- 18:05Speaker 3: is acknowledge. So identify the thought. Okay. Thought of whatever
- 18:09Speaker 3: you are, X, Y, Z, name it. And then you
- 18:14Speaker 3: submit it. I submit you under the blood of Jesus,
- 18:18Speaker 3: under his authority.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:19Speaker 3: And you stand on the truth.
- 18:21Speaker 4: It's the last S.
- 18:22Speaker 3: So I taught that one time and somebody came up
- 18:25Speaker 3: to me afterwards and they're like, Oh, so I can
- 18:27Speaker 3: pray away my symptoms and things. And I, I'm saying, no,
- 18:31Speaker 3: like it's a good tool to have to recognize those
- 18:35Speaker 3: thoughts and it'll recondition your brain circuitry. Once you use
- 18:39Speaker 3: those therapies and that can lead to healing, but it's
- 18:43Speaker 3: not praying it away necessarily, especially if it's a clinical
- 18:46Speaker 3: medical needed, um, ailment when you need medicine, because the
- 18:51Speaker 3: medicine can also slow down the processes of the brain
- 18:54Speaker 3: synapses and to the point where the connections are slower
- 19:00Speaker 3: so that you are processing things better.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That's powerful. A couple of things I want to point
- 19:07Speaker 2: out here might be good. Under Overcomers TV Live, under
- 19:11Speaker 2: our shows, we have Harmony of the Gospels. And it's
- 19:16Speaker 2: all 25 hours of Messianic Jewish from a Jewish perspective,
- 19:21Speaker 2: teaching of the life of the Messiah. And it takes
- 19:25Speaker 2: 25 hours by Dr. Arnold Fuchtenbaum. Best 25 hours, listen,
- 19:30Speaker 2: in 27 years of listening to preachers and reading the Bible,
- 19:33Speaker 2: best 25 hours of my life. Because you see, if
- 19:36Speaker 2: you look at the book of Luke, he does the
- 19:38Speaker 2: life of Jesus in a chronological order. Luke does. Mark, Matthew,
- 19:42Speaker 2: John don't. They're all over the place. But Luke puts
- 19:45Speaker 2: it in order. And the first half of Jesus's ministry,
- 19:48Speaker 2: he's committing miracles without anybody asking just to show up
- 19:53Speaker 2: who he is as messiah john the baptist said behold
- 19:55Speaker 2: the lamb of god here's the messiah he does all
- 19:58Speaker 2: these miracles now the pharisees are backsliding or coming up
- 20:01Speaker 2: with an excuse why he's not because he's not keeping
- 20:04Speaker 2: pharisaical laws the man born blind right There was never
- 20:09Speaker 2: a man born blind to this day that has been
- 20:12Speaker 2: medically surgery to give him his sight for the first time.
- 20:15Speaker 2: People have lost their sight and we've been able to
- 20:17Speaker 2: restore it. But nobody born blind has ever been able
- 20:21Speaker 2: to been healed. So they had a rule. If a
- 20:23Speaker 2: man born blind wanted to be healed, you can't do
- 20:26Speaker 2: it on the Sabbath. You can't inject wine in his
- 20:29Speaker 2: eyes or use spit and mud. So what does God do?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Has a man born blind, meet him when Jesus was there,
- 20:36Speaker 2: uses spit and mud. On the Sabbath. To point to
- 20:41Speaker 2: the Pharisees. Like that's one of your rules. That's not
- 20:43Speaker 2: from God. It's called the Mishnaic law. It's all these
- 20:47Speaker 2: laws that they wrote. From Malachi to Matthew. The size
- 20:50Speaker 2: of the Encyclopedia Britannica. 1500 rules on what you cannot
- 20:54Speaker 2: do on the Sabbath. So Jesus kept doing those things.
- 20:57Speaker 2: On the Sabbath. Which drove them nuts. So then they
- 21:01Speaker 2: started saying. Now he's doing it by the power of Beelzebub.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Not because he's the Messiah. At that point. Halfway through
- 21:08Speaker 2: Jesus's ministry, he only does a miracle if someone shows
- 21:12Speaker 2: faith that he's the Messiah because the Jewish leaders rejected
- 21:15Speaker 2: his claims of being Messiah. So I say all this
- 21:19Speaker 2: because the greatest miracles that we want God to do,
- 21:22Speaker 2: like heal bipolar, paralyzed people, get up and walk, carry
- 21:26Speaker 2: your mat. That was one of their rules. You cannot
- 21:29Speaker 2: carry a mat on a Sabbath. That was one of
- 21:31Speaker 2: the 1500 rules. So he heals a guy who's paralyzed,
- 21:33Speaker 2: tells him to pick up his mat and go. Upsets
- 21:36Speaker 2: the Pharisees. They're like, wait a minute. You're not excited
- 21:39Speaker 2: that I'm walking again. You're worried about me carrying my
- 21:41Speaker 2: mat today on the Sabbath. I mean, so a lot
- 21:45Speaker 2: of these pointed to his claims of being a Messiah.
- 21:47Speaker 2: So fast forward 2000 years. I know we want the miracles.
- 21:50Speaker 2: We love the story. Yeah. But God miracle always points
- 21:55Speaker 2: to his authority and who he was as Messiah. That's
- 21:58Speaker 2: why he did a lot of amazing miracles while he
- 22:00Speaker 2: was here. But we as a church now, and again,
- 22:03Speaker 2: back to this, this issue, um, praying it away we
- 22:07Speaker 2: ask and if god wants to add that to your
- 22:09Speaker 2: testimony as a miraculous healing miracles are like lightning strikes
- 22:14Speaker 2: they don't happen every page right you know we have
- 22:18Speaker 2: the book of acts took like 40 years 38 years
- 22:21Speaker 2: for it to be written and we can read it
- 22:23Speaker 2: in like a couple days thinking it's happening every day
- 22:26Speaker 2: all these things chapter chapter chapter.
- 22:27Speaker 6: That's far and few between so i love the idea
- 22:31Speaker 6: that you know you got a balanced approach to you know,
- 22:34Speaker 6: mental health and, you know, medical community counselors, just like,
- 22:39Speaker 6: you know.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yes. I recommend, highly recommend that.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yes. I just want to say, I mean, I deal
- 22:46Speaker 2: with the church and we could be a little kooky
- 22:47Speaker 2: and over the top sometimes.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 2: But God loves his bride. So I don't want to
- 22:52Speaker 2: talk too bad about the church because he loves his bride.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Yes. Yes.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Absolutely. Thank you for bringing that up though. Cause that's, yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 3: that's poignant.
- 23:00Speaker 2: That, Because the church could be cray cray and that's
- 23:02Speaker 2: turning off a lot of people. You know, it just really,
- 23:05Speaker 2: it does. And we want to be attractive. We want
- 23:07Speaker 2: to shine his light. We want to be his hand.
- 23:09Speaker 2: We want to be his feet. What else about the
- 23:12Speaker 2: book do they need to know? It's on Amazon, right?
- 23:14Speaker 3: So we, yeah, I recommend it's, it's more of written
- 23:19Speaker 3: for an older, like adult population. It could be triggering
- 23:24Speaker 3: to some people, especially like the first chapter is called
- 23:26Speaker 3: saved and suicidal. So I didn't make any attempts on
- 23:30Speaker 3: my life, but I talk about it in there just
- 23:34Speaker 3: so people know, you know, it's, there's no trigger warning
- 23:37Speaker 3: on the front, but there's that kind of content about
- 23:41Speaker 3: that temptation and what I startled with, with the psychosis
- 23:46Speaker 3: and other hyper-religiosity, hyper-sexuality and those manic and psychotic things mostly.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 2: That's yeah. Some, interesting top chapters and topics to talk
- 24:01Speaker 2: about and you can talk about something um you know
- 24:04Speaker 2: and i think we talked last time we had a
- 24:06Speaker 2: 13 year old in our church julya um march will
- 24:10Speaker 2: be two years so it's about a year and a
- 24:12Speaker 2: half now that when she was 13 one morning just
- 24:15Speaker 2: seemed like a teenager didn't want to wake up go
- 24:16Speaker 2: to go to do laundry on a saturday morning with
- 24:19Speaker 2: her mom you know through the covers over her head
- 24:21Speaker 2: and a little argument with her mom and mom said
- 24:24Speaker 2: okay i'm gonna go do laundry and And 45 minutes later,
- 24:28Speaker 2: she took her life in the bathroom and it just,
- 24:30Speaker 2: no one saw it coming. No one saw it coming.
- 24:34Speaker 2: It's just sad. And so we need to talk about
- 24:38Speaker 2: this stuff. You never know what people are thinking about.
- 24:40Speaker 4: No. Right.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Exactly. Like, how you doing? It's like, how you doing?
- 24:44Speaker 2: Turned into a hello.
- 24:45Speaker 7: How you doing?
- 24:45Speaker 2: I'm doing good.
- 24:45Speaker 7: How you doing?
- 24:46Speaker 2: Okay, good. Let's get busy. You don't know. How are
- 24:48Speaker 2: you doing? How are you really doing?
- 24:49Speaker 3: How are you really doing?
- 24:51Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 2: So, um, And that's what the body of Christ is
- 24:58Speaker 2: over 51 and others in the Bible, new Testament, pray
- 25:02Speaker 2: for one another, encourage one another, love one another.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 2: That's the ability for us to minister one to each
- 25:09Speaker 2: one to another. It's not just a pastor's job, whether
- 25:12Speaker 2: you use pastor or the people that work in the church,
- 25:15Speaker 2: if you will. Most churches are small. They don't even
- 25:18Speaker 2: have staff. They're like 75 or a hundred people. So
- 25:21Speaker 2: it's body parts. Like what we're doing right now is therapeutic.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So he's listening in. They're being edified. They're going to
- 25:27Speaker 2: learn from your testimony, your experience from this book. And
- 25:30Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit is going to use that. All right.
- 25:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And one of the like memories I have that's in
- 25:36Speaker 3: the book where the church really reached out to me,
- 25:39Speaker 3: we were at a youth group gathering and it was
- 25:43Speaker 3: an informal gathering of just friends really from the same
- 25:46Speaker 3: youth group. Like nobody put it on except for this
- 25:49Speaker 3: girl in our church, one of our peers. And she
- 25:51Speaker 3: just had friends over at her house and, But I
- 25:54Speaker 3: remember we were going through one of those charades games
- 25:56Speaker 3: and I was up on, you know, it was my
- 25:58Speaker 3: turn to do the charade. And I was like, I'm
- 26:01Speaker 3: really not feeling it. Like I'm in the throes of
- 26:03Speaker 3: depression and I didn't realize it. So that's another thing
- 26:06Speaker 3: when you're in these illnesses, you don't realize what you're
- 26:08Speaker 3: in unless someone's like, I think you're going through depression.
- 26:14Speaker 3: And it takes a little bit more awareness to see
- 26:18Speaker 3: from the outside looking in and from the inside looking
- 26:22Speaker 3: to recognize you may be depressed. But this friend of mine,
- 26:27Speaker 3: she looked at me and she's like, she's hosting this thing.
- 26:29Speaker 3: She goes, how are you really doing? You know, are
- 26:33Speaker 3: you okay? And I'm like, not really. And it was
- 26:37Speaker 3: so hard because I'm an introverted person as it is.
- 26:39Speaker 3: It was so hard to open up and be honest
- 26:43Speaker 3: and just tell her how I was feeling because I
- 26:44Speaker 3: didn't want to burn anybody. I didn't want to feel
- 26:46Speaker 3: like an inconvenience. But that compassion she showed me, really
- 26:51Speaker 3: went a long way. Like I was able to tell my,
- 26:54Speaker 3: my brother who had brought me to the event. I
- 26:55Speaker 3: was like, yeah, I really don't feel like I'm myself anymore.
- 27:01Speaker 3: So it did lead me to, you know, find that
- 27:04Speaker 3: help that I needed. But the churches is as long
- 27:08Speaker 3: as we're being present and noticing like Jesus did and
- 27:13Speaker 3: going towards the person and their problems and not obey
- 27:17Speaker 3: from them. That's where God can use us. That's where
- 27:21Speaker 3: you can help us start healing.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Amen. Well, I know you're in Germany and there is
- 27:26Speaker 2: a time difference, but thank God for Facebook. We can
- 27:29Speaker 2: stay connected that way. So Katie or Dale already following
- 27:35Speaker 2: you and we're friends and there's, you know, the website
- 27:39Speaker 2: Katie at bipolar brave.com is her email. And you also
- 27:46Speaker 2: have a family with kids. So mom, That's another hat.
- 27:52Speaker 2: That's the highest calling, being a mom. That is. Wife
- 27:54Speaker 2: and mom, man. Yeah. It's good.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I'm glad. A little shout out to Paul and Arlene Samuels,
- 28:02Speaker 2: if you're watching.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:04Speaker 2: They're in Atlanta. And, you know, Paul is such a trooper.
- 28:08Speaker 2: He wrote a book as well.
- 28:09Speaker 7: Yes.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Is it Mental Health Meltdown? I think so.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Meltdown.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 2: So, yeah, he got a great, great heart for the cause.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I want to caution folks who try to use labels.
- 28:25Speaker 2: These are medical terms, diagnoses. Unless you're a medical doctor,
- 28:30Speaker 2: don't be calling anybody bipolar. These are serious terms. Your
- 28:36Speaker 2: job is to pray for them. If you're noticing something
- 28:37Speaker 2: that's off, pray for them and ask that person, hey,
- 28:40Speaker 2: how can I help?
- 28:41Speaker 4: What can I do to help you today?
- 28:43Speaker 3: If you don't have the answers or the resource or the,
- 28:46Speaker 3: the knowledge or the, the answers to what they're going through,
- 28:49Speaker 3: you can always point them to resources. And I have
- 28:52Speaker 3: those on my website too. Um, when it's back up
- 28:55Speaker 3: and running, um, I have a game plan, which is
- 28:58Speaker 3: like a guide that has placeholders for your name, your info,
- 29:03Speaker 3: your history, your medicine, um, in case of emergency, who
- 29:06Speaker 3: do you contact, uh, suicide prevention plan and resources that
- 29:11Speaker 3: I've vetted, you know, that, I trust that I go
- 29:14Speaker 3: to Christian and secular.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Amen. Well, I'd love for you to lead our viewers
- 29:19Speaker 2: in prayer and I'll close. Sound good?
- 29:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that sounds great. Thank you, pastor. Heavenly father. Thank
- 29:27Speaker 3: you for everybody who's joined us today. And I pray
- 29:30Speaker 3: for their hearts, Lord, and their minds, both heart and head. Lord,
- 29:34Speaker 3: you've created us body, soul, and spirit and hearts. And
- 29:39Speaker 3: we just, pray that your your peace which reigns in
- 29:43Speaker 3: our hearts would permeate every part of us our minds
- 29:47Speaker 3: and our bodies lord and that you would bring just
- 29:52Speaker 3: that you would calm the storms that we're going through
- 29:54Speaker 3: and bring peace and still those still those waves lord
- 30:00Speaker 3: Help us get to the help that we need when
- 30:03Speaker 3: we need it. Provide those people and those places to
- 30:06Speaker 3: get to. And we pray that you'd be glorified in
- 30:10Speaker 3: all this. We love you and praise you. And thank you.
- 30:14Speaker 4: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Amen, amen. I, too, thank you, Lord, for, yeah, it
- 30:23Speaker 2: is Paul Samuel's Mental Health Meltdown. I want to make
- 30:26Speaker 2: sure I got that title right. He also wrote Where
- 30:28Speaker 2: is Christmas? I wrote a few books, but just thank
- 30:31Speaker 2: you how you knit the body parts together, how we
- 30:34Speaker 2: meet folks and introduce us to other folks you want
- 30:36Speaker 2: us to meet and how there's common testimony and how
- 30:40Speaker 2: our misery can become a ministry and our mess can
- 30:43Speaker 2: become a message ultimately to give you glory. I thank
- 30:46Speaker 2: you for the healing and the strength and the grace
- 30:49Speaker 2: and the medical community, all the things you use to
- 30:53Speaker 2: help us be more like you. And we just, again,
- 30:57Speaker 2: commit this book to you. but deliver me from crazy
- 31:00Speaker 2: and pray it would be a bestseller Lord that others
- 31:03Speaker 2: would learn from it, glean from it. Thank you for
- 31:05Speaker 2: Katie's willingness to put pen to paper, be open, honest,
- 31:08Speaker 2: and transparent about her journey and may others be blessed
- 31:12Speaker 2: by it. So thank you for all those that are,
- 31:15Speaker 2: I pray with us and for us, for our viewers,
- 31:18Speaker 2: may we be your hands, your feet, your voice today
- 31:20Speaker 2: for someone who needs us in Jesus name.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Amen.
- 31:23Speaker 2: And you're so welcome. There it is, katyrdale.com. Shoot her
