- 0:03Hey, guys, this is The Daily Ripples with an S.
- 0:09We have a website too.
- 0:11It's called DailyRipples.com.
- 0:15We got these things on there.
- 0:16We got a book study.
- 0:17Put out every Monday and we're just going to go.
- 0:20for the book and It's all up there.
- 0:23you get in there.
- 0:25It's good to have a book with you when you're going through it.
- 0:27Um, makes more sense, I guess, when you're listening to a book and not looking at one, it's kind of confusing and, But I think it's a cool deal.
- 0:37Um, Anyways, today, September 5th, living my amends. The stone.
- 0:42Some of the best amends I can make are found in the way I treat people I meet today.
- 0:46Ripple one, practical.
- 0:49Today, I will practice simple acts of kindness, patience and courtesy.
- 0:52I cannot always repair every hurt from my past, but I can choose to be a blessing in every relationship God places before me now.
- 1:01Ripple two, spiritual.
- 1:03As I follow Christ's example of compassion, the Holy Spirit changes not only my actions.
- 1:10But also my heart.
- 1:13What once came naturally through anger, selfishness is gradually replaced, but with grace.
- 1:19In that quiet transformation, the Father continues the work of making me whole.
- 1:27Man, I, uh, I guess like I feel a little biased on this is because like, for a long time, I've heard people talk about amends being like, you know, people saying living amends and, you know, I don't, I, I do believe I cannot always repair every hurt from my past.
- 1:50But that doesn't mean I can't approach everybody I hurt from my past.
- 1:56That's that's not what it says, like, you know, and I think that's important to be talked about because.
- 2:03I mean, how are you willing to go to any lengths?
- 2:07And, you know, as a big book on page?
- 2:1280, what is it?
- 2:1483 or sorry.
- 2:16It says.
- 2:18The spiritual life is not a theory.
- 2:21We have to live it.
- 2:22And it also says on page 79.
- 2:26It says, although those these reprimations take innumerable forms, there are some good principles which we find guiding.
- 2:36And it says this word and it's very important to me.
- 2:39It says reminding ourselves that we have decided to go to any link to find a spiritual experience.
- 2:45And why is it reminding us? Because at page 58.
- 2:50We said we'd go to any length.
- 2:53But now we got to remember that we said we were going to go to any length, right?
- 2:56Because like,
- 2:57Now we start talking about going and talking to people and we're like, whoa, I'll do this, but this.
- 3:03Anyways, it goes on to say we ask that we'd be given strength and direction to do the right thing.
- 3:09And that's kind of like, you know, we ask.
- 3:11So that's a prayer that we'd be given, strength and direction to do the right thing, no matter what the personal consequence may be.
- 3:18And it's usually ego, right?
- 3:20You're not usually going to go get shot.
- 3:22I mean, maybe, but I don't think that's what normally would happen.
- 3:26Um, says we may lose our position or reputation.
- 3:31Or face jail, but we are willing.
- 3:33And are you willing?
- 3:35We have to be.
- 3:37We must not shrink at anything.
- 3:38And, you know, so, being willing to do it, and I actually doing it are 2 different separate things, right?
- 3:47Because if I'm willing to do it and believe that God will put me in a position to do it, yes, I I believe that I'm willing to do all my moves.
- 3:56Why would I not be?
- 3:58Because, I mean, if do I want to go mess up some more of my past or do I not believe that I'm done drinking?
- 4:03Do I believe that I can drink like a normal person or do I believe that I have to live on a spiritual basis for life or else?
- 4:11And I believe I have to live on a spiritual basis for life or else?
- 4:15Um, My life has shown that in many different ways from not making all my amends when I 1st came in here to, Man, you know, half doing this stuff, not letting spiritual by spiritual principles in, Dr. Bob.
- 4:36In the uh, vision for you.
- 4:39He, you know, this was what his problem was.
- 4:44You know, on page 150 top five, it says,
- 4:48Why he argued, should he lose the remainder of his business, only to bring still more suffering to his family, family or foolishly admitting his flight to people whom he made his livelihood.
- 5:00He would do anything.
- 5:02He said, but that.
- 5:03So he would do everything, you know, within the work to do this, but go make amends, right?
- 5:10Go face the people that eat hurt.
- 5:12Go face the people that it won't.
- 5:14Anyways, it goes on to say, being intrigued, however, he invited our friend to his home sometime later, and just as he thought he was getting control of his liquor situation, he went out on a roaring bender.
- 5:28For him, this was the spree that ended all sprees.
- 5:32He saw that he would have to face his problems squarely that God might give him mastery.
- 5:38One morning, he took the bull by the horns and he set out to tell, tell those he feared what his trouble had been.
- 5:45He found himself surprisingly well received and learned that many knew of his drinking, stepping into his car, he made his rounds of people he had hurt.
- 5:54He trembled as he went about, for this might mean ruin, particularly to a person in his line of business.
- 6:01At midnight, he came home exhaustive, but very happy.
- 6:05He has not had a drink since.
- 6:08And that's like, you know, the best representation of, like, why don't you be willing to do this thing?
- 6:13Are you willing and are you not?
- 6:15I mean, it's a simple ordeal.
- 6:17Uh, rarely have we seen a person fail who has, you know, followed their path.
- 6:23rarely.
- 6:24I mean, if you want to, if you want what we have or want to go to any length to get, then these are the steps in order to do it.
- 6:30I, uh,
- 6:33On 164 and it kind of lines with Matthew a little bit, but it says,
- 6:41Ask him in your morning meditation that you can do each day, what you can do each day for the man who is still sick.
- 6:49The answers will come if your own house is in order, but obviously you cannot transmit something you haven't got.
- 6:55So yeah, I say that, say that every morning.
- 6:59I'll read that prayer in 80 prayer on 83, prayer on 87, um, but I say that, you know, because it makes me think of my house in order today.
- 7:10And I need to put my view on the new guy, on the person that still needs help.
- 7:17In Matthew 523.
- 7:20says, it kind of alarms just exactly like that.
- 7:24It says, therefore, if you're offering your gift to the altar.
- 7:29And there, remember that your brother has something against you.
- 7:34Leave your gift there in front of the altar, 1st go and reconcile to your brother, then coming off your gift.
- 7:41So God's saying like, come to the altar.
- 7:44But if you got something wrong with somebody, go fix that, then come back to the altar and give your gift.
- 7:50And that like, you know, that's the same thing it says over here, right?
- 7:54The answers will come if your own house is in order, but obviously you cannot transmit something you haven't got.
- 8:00See to it, that your relationship with them is right.
- 8:03And great events will come to pass for you and countless others.
- 8:07So how do I know my relationship with him is right? is getting right with his kids, right?
- 8:12And that's the deal.
- 8:13I don't, you know, when I look at this and I'm like, you know, man, I can, if I just a good boy to these people now, I'm living my men.
- 8:24I think that is the most.
- 8:30You know, it goes into the people talking about a spiritual perfection, not progress, not perfection.
- 8:35No.
- 8:36Do you want to get sober?
- 8:38Do you want to die?
- 8:38And that's what my,
- 8:40I mean, that's what this literature alliance to.
- 8:42I mean, it's not really, there's not a really gray area.
- 8:45There's a lot of words that say death.
- 8:47There's a lot of words that say, hey, if you don't do this, this will happen.
- 8:51But, You know, I, uh, Man, I got a lot of amends to make.
- 8:57A lot of daunting amends to make.
- 9:00Um, but, you know, my life out there, it looked very daunting within a general ending up in jails, ending up in institutions, and you know, you're out, your life doesn't have to end that way, obviously, just being an alcoholic.
- 9:16The only, the only thing that I find that, the same thing as other alcoholics is, When I take a drink, I want more, the allergy into mind, right?
- 9:27After a certain amount of time, I drink again.
- 9:32Anyways, but today, Prayer, Father God, help me live my amends today through kindness and love, through your Holy Spirit, keep changing my heart to reflect the compassion of Jesus.
- 9:43May my life bring peace wherever you lead me.
- 9:46Amen.
