- 0:11Speaker 1: You know, one of the coolest things about... Oh, wow.
- 0:15Speaker 1: You got a new sound alert. What is the coolest
- 0:18Speaker 1: thing about a podcast?
- 0:18Speaker 2: One of the coolest things about doing this podcast is
- 0:20Speaker 2: you get access to movies before they're out.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the only reason we're doing it. Yeah, I
- 0:24Speaker 1: just want that. Like, we used to get those SAG screeners.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Remember the DVDs we used to get? Yeah. That was big.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They cut up your card years ago. That's why you
- 0:31Speaker 1: don't get those anymore. Oh, is that what happens? That tracks. Yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 1: but now we get early films and we get to
- 0:37Speaker 1: watch them and make up our minds if we like
- 0:40Speaker 1: or dislike. That's true. Be the first people on, what's that?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Oh my God, I'm blanking. What's the thing? The app? Letterboxd.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We can be the first ones on Letterboxd. Start reviewing early.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Do you have a Letterboxd account? I do. Do you
- 0:50Speaker 1: actually review movies? Yeah, that's what you do. I have
- 0:55Speaker 1: not really started yet, but I... I feel like you'd
- 0:57Speaker 1: be really into it, Nick. It's not a secret. People
- 0:58Speaker 1: don't know I have one, but I've been reviewing. Oh, interesting.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I'd like to follow you. What's the last movie you reviewed?
- 1:04Speaker 1: I mean, let's find out. Hold, please. Let's see what
- 1:08Speaker 1: we got here in the old letterbox. I need to
- 1:10Speaker 1: do more letterboxing. The last one I did, you know,
- 1:13Speaker 1: because I'm trying to be really honest. Here we go.
- 1:16Speaker 1: This is why you don't want to be public. You're
- 1:19Speaker 1: super critical. I like it. Always have been. Films. Wow.
- 1:23Speaker 1: These are all my movies I've reviewed. Wow.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He's like, he's got some films. I think Apex was
- 1:28Speaker 2: the last one and Hail Mary.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Hail Mary. Because, you know, they give you like, oh,
- 1:34Speaker 1: have you seen this one? You're like, oh, obviously. Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So I went kind of like deep on the films
- 1:39Speaker 1: that I love. Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Well, I really enjoyed the film that we're about to
- 1:44Speaker 2: talk to the actress that's in this film.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I enjoyed the first ones so much. Back in the day,
- 1:50Speaker 2: me and Danielle watched Practical Magic, the original. And it's
- 1:54Speaker 2: a cult classic. 30 years ago you guys watched that? Yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 2: it's like, you know, back in the day when we
- 1:57Speaker 2: were infants. We watched it actually not too long ago,
- 2:01Speaker 2: probably the last couple of years, around Halloween time.
- 2:04Speaker 1: It's a very Halloween-y film.
- 2:05Speaker 3: It is.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Because, you know, it's about witches. You said weenie. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: did say weenie. I didn't say wiener, but I said weenie.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But now... Good one. Clip it. But now.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And we're back.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Wow.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But now there's another one. There's another one.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Practical Magic 2. It took him 30 years. They need
- 2:24Speaker 2: to get this next guest born to be in the movie.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's true. She had to grow up. She must be
- 2:29Speaker 1: born and grow up. Well, in the first movie, the
- 2:31Speaker 1: main actress, Sandra Bullock. Yeah. And Nicole Kidman. Yeah. Sandra
- 2:34Speaker 1: Bullock has children. Heard of them.
- 2:36Speaker 2: They need to grow up to be where they are
- 2:38Speaker 2: in this film. So it's actually perfectly timed for the sequel.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Perfectly timed.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Perfectly timed. And of course, our guest today, so exciting,
- 2:44Speaker 1: our friend, Miss Joey King. Yeah!
- 2:49Speaker 3: Hi!
- 2:49Speaker 1: Hello! Live studio audience.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Hi, Joey! What's up? I'm sorry I'm not there in person.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, what the hell? We're so happy that you're on
- 3:02Speaker 1: the podcast. Thank you so much for doing this.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Thanks for having me. You guys, I want to start
- 3:07Speaker 3: by saying, I don't know if you know this, but
- 3:10Speaker 3: You guys were my first concert that I ever went
- 3:12Speaker 3: to in my whole life.
- 3:13Speaker 1: No way. Where at? Yes.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Okay. I don't remember where they held the Teen Choice
- 3:18Speaker 3: Awards for like 2000 to 2010. I believe that was.
- 3:20Speaker 1: At Gibson Amphitheater. It's not longer there. Now it's Harry
- 3:24Speaker 1: Potter World, but this was in Universal.
- 3:26Speaker 3: That's right. It is. Yeah. Okay. So it was the
- 3:28Speaker 3: Gibson Amphitheater. And that was my first ever concert. And
- 3:31Speaker 3: I saw you guys. Wow.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's so cool. We have a photo.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Painstakingly. You do?
- 3:36Speaker 1: We have a photo.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Oh, I know exactly what picture this is.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so you know the photo. The one. So this
- 3:42Speaker 1: is 2008, probably? 2007? I've got a really good fake
- 3:46Speaker 1: tan going.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, this was one of the times that I waited
- 3:49Speaker 3: outside to meet the peeps, the famous peeps at the
- 3:54Speaker 3: Teen Choice Awards.
- 3:54Speaker 1: With my sisters.
- 3:55Speaker 2: You crushed it. Me and my wife were talking about
- 3:57Speaker 2: this photo earlier. We were guessing how old you were.
- 3:59Speaker 2: How old were you in this? Six to nine, right?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Somewhere in there?
- 4:02Speaker 3: In 2008, I was... I was eight or nine. Yeah. Okay.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So pretty close. Yeah. You look like the age of
- 4:10Speaker 1: our oldest daughter, our youngest daughter. Sorry.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And then, yeah, that was what I was thinking. Um, who,
- 4:14Speaker 2: who else were you waiting for then? I mean, I
- 4:17Speaker 2: don't know who you're waiting for us, but you're waiting.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Who was nice and who was not? Let's start there.
- 4:21Speaker 3: In your entire career.
- 4:22Speaker 1: No, just in your entire show. Was there somebody who
- 4:26Speaker 1: were like, Oh, I really hope I get to meet them.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I Kelly Clarkson.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Oh, totally. Love.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Which was amazing.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Since you've been gone, what's going off?
- 4:36Speaker 3: Who else? I'm trying to remember. That was like my
- 4:38Speaker 3: high school musical.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They were there. Oh, yeah. The entire cast was there.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yes, by the way, which 100% Vanessa, Zach, all that jazz.
- 4:47Speaker 3: But that was, I can't, I was just painstakingly looking
- 4:50Speaker 3: through my mom's phone trying to find a picture of
- 4:53Speaker 3: the concert that I went to. Because remember what I wore, too.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You guys had merch out that was like purple, orange, yellow,
- 4:58Speaker 3: pink ombre of like the cutout of you guys, the silhouette.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Wow. Good memory.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And I wore that and I was like just literally
- 5:08Speaker 3: all morning. I was like this through my mom's phone
- 5:10Speaker 3: trying to find a picture, but I couldn't find one.
- 5:12Speaker 3: And I don't remember if it was before 2008 or
- 5:14Speaker 3: after 2008, but I think it was before. I think
- 5:17Speaker 3: my first concert ever was when I was like eight
- 5:19Speaker 3: years old. So it must have been around then.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That makes us feel so wild. Wow, we're so grateful.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Thank you. And at that time, you were.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I'm going to say older grateful, be honest.
- 5:28Speaker 1: That makes us feel so old and grateful. Old and grateful.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You know, thinking back to the Teen Choice Awards, though,
- 5:34Speaker 1: because I don't know that it's really as much a
- 5:36Speaker 1: thing now as it was. I'm not sure.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Is it a thing at all anymore?
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't know if it is. Tell me if I'm wrong,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but wasn't there a category that was just like, hottest
- 5:44Speaker 1: guy and hottest girl, and how inappropriate is that?
- 5:47Speaker 2: And best kiss, and they'd always remake the kiss. No,
- 5:50Speaker 2: it was Teen Choice Awards, too.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I think you're right, Kevin. Thank you, Joey. Best teen. Yes,
- 5:57Speaker 1: just best teen.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Hottest teen.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Very strange that that was a thing.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I know. I feel like the Teen Choice Awards, though,
- 6:08Speaker 3: was like all that. It was like everything.
- 6:11Speaker 2: They were handing out surfboards left and right.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Everything, especially cause like my, so my sisters are a
- 6:17Speaker 3: little bit older than me. They're six and seven years
- 6:20Speaker 3: older than me. And so like everything they were into,
- 6:22Speaker 3: I was into and they were six, seven. Uh, they
- 6:26Speaker 3: were so obsessed with the Teen Choice Awards as was I.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And then as I got older, like I got to
- 6:31Speaker 3: attend a few times and I remember like my heart
- 6:33Speaker 3: was like racing being an attendee. I wasn't nominated for anything.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I was just going and I was like, Oh my God,
- 6:38Speaker 3: this is like, this is, I peaked. This is everything
- 6:40Speaker 3: I've ever wanted in my life.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You peaked. I think there was a lot more in
- 6:44Speaker 1: your career after that. Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't know that, though. At the time, I
- 6:47Speaker 3: was just like, this is it, guys. I got to
- 6:50Speaker 3: the Teen Choice Awards.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I remember a very cringe moment that we hosted the
- 6:54Speaker 1: Teen Choice Awards. Just one cringe moment?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and they put us on the rigging and had
- 6:59Speaker 2: us flying up in the air at one point. There
- 7:01Speaker 2: was a gag where we were going to start. After
- 7:04Speaker 2: the commercial break, it was actually, I have a soundbite.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And we're back.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And after the break, we were hanging above the audience.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And when you read that in a script, when you're
- 7:14Speaker 1: getting it, because we're reading through this, we're like, oh,
- 7:15Speaker 1: that's going to be so fun. Because I don't know
- 7:17Speaker 1: why the bit was, why were we flying up in
- 7:19Speaker 1: the air? I'm not really sure. They had to rig
- 7:20Speaker 1: us before the commercial break and the commercial breaks were
- 7:22Speaker 1: quite long. So we're just, we're just hanging out there
- 7:25Speaker 1: above the audience.
- 7:26Speaker 3: You're just hanging up there by the way to like,
- 7:29Speaker 3: you know, obviously back in, during the teen choice awards,
- 7:33Speaker 3: everyone had kissed everyone. Everyone had dated everyone. And you're
- 7:37Speaker 3: just like hanging in a harness over like everyone, you.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Know, the drama was real.
- 7:41Speaker 3: The lore had to go so deep and it's like,
- 7:43Speaker 3: it's so much worse when you're like, in an adult
- 7:47Speaker 3: harness diaper, and you're just hanging over all your peers, friends, enemies,
- 7:52Speaker 3: and you're just like, what did I agree to? I
- 7:56Speaker 3: know what you felt. I know what you mean.
- 7:58Speaker 1: We're so thrilled that you're on the pod with us.
- 8:01Speaker 1: If you don't mind me asking, where are you Zooming
- 8:03Speaker 1: from or calling in from?
- 8:05Speaker 3: I'm Zooming from my mom's best friend's house.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Nice.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Once I'm done with this, we're playing Mahjong all day.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Nice. Nice.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really nice. I've got like a very busy
- 8:14Speaker 3: month coming up with like press and just like work
- 8:16Speaker 3: and stuff. So it's really nice to be able to
- 8:19Speaker 3: kind of have like days where we're just doing like
- 8:21Speaker 3: family stuff. That's great. Last night I went to go
- 8:24Speaker 3: see my niece who was 10 months old.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Congratulations. That's awesome.
- 8:28Speaker 3: You know, it's just like family time is so great.
- 8:31Speaker 3: And so especially when you're like sandwiched by such busyness.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah. So where did you grow up then?
- 8:37Speaker 3: I grew up in Simi Valley, California.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Nice.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Simi heads, rise up.
- 8:43Speaker 1: What's up? Rise up.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Have you guys spent much time in Simi Valley? Because
- 8:47Speaker 3: I know that a lot of people shot music videos
- 8:49Speaker 3: out there.
- 8:49Speaker 1: We shot the Hold On music video out there.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And I shot a TV show with my brother Franklin
- 8:55Speaker 2: out there at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Claim to fame.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Yes, of course. The Hummingbird Nest Ranch.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Did you guys ever go to Skate Lab out there
- 9:02Speaker 3: when it was open?
- 9:03Speaker 1: No. Skate Lab. I think so. That sounds very cool.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Cooler than we were. I don't think we were cool
- 9:08Speaker 1: enough to go to Skate Lab. They wouldn't let us in.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, probably not. Just, you know, you're probably right. You're
- 9:12Speaker 3: not cool enough. No, it's not there anymore, but it
- 9:15Speaker 3: was kind of like one of our claim to fames
- 9:17Speaker 3: in Simi Valley. It was the largest indoor skate park
- 9:20Speaker 3: in North America.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Sounds like somewhere I would have loved to go.
- 9:24Speaker 3: It was pretty spectacular. Did you skate, Joey?
- 9:26Speaker 1: You were a skater?
- 9:28Speaker 3: I was. I did skateboard a lot when I was younger. Oh, cool.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I had to make a decision after I got hurt many,
- 9:33Speaker 3: many times whether I wanted to be doing that or
- 9:36Speaker 3: whether I wanted to be an actress.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Or have a successful career as an actress, yes.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I think I want to be an actress. I got
- 9:42Speaker 3: hurt a lot of times while I was working, and
- 9:44Speaker 3: then I got in trouble.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't do that. As your skateboarding abilities come
- 9:49Speaker 1: in handy, like on any films, have you been able
- 9:51Speaker 1: to skateboard?
- 9:52Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Is that in your resume?
- 9:54Speaker 3: I actually learned how to skate for a movie when
- 9:56Speaker 3: I was younger, and then that's kind of what got
- 9:58Speaker 3: me into. it and then i i just happened to
- 10:01Speaker 3: live five minutes away from this fabulous place for most.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Of my teens i would have loved to live a
- 10:07Speaker 1: place like that.
- 10:07Speaker 3: It was really it was really great but we were
- 10:09Speaker 3: very like you know tony hawk came there sometimes just
- 10:12Speaker 3: there sometimes so that's why i asked because like it
- 10:14Speaker 3: was kind of a weirdly like a hot spot occasionally i.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Remember this place because i we grew up being huge
- 10:19Speaker 2: skaters now and that you're bringing it up like it
- 10:21Speaker 2: was like considered like woodward of the west like we
- 10:23Speaker 2: had woodward out by us in pennsylvania which was like
- 10:26Speaker 2: the If you were a skater, you went there for camp.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Do you remember Woodward? No, it was never that good. Okay, okay. Well,
- 10:32Speaker 1: it was the place to go. I know Squidward. Okay,
- 10:36Speaker 1: that's something.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Hey, my favorite clarinet playing squid.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Oh, the best. So grumpy.
- 10:42Speaker 3: What a talent, you know? What a talent.
- 10:44Speaker 2: So please tell us. I'm so happy for you with
- 10:47Speaker 2: Practical Magic 2.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, congratulations. It's so awesome. So exciting.
- 10:49Speaker 2: The first one is incredible, obviously, but now so many
- 10:52Speaker 2: years later. They had to wait for the girls to
- 10:54Speaker 2: grow up, and you're the perfect casting producer.
- 10:56Speaker 3: How did you guys decide on who gets to do
- 10:58Speaker 3: the sound effects?
- 10:59Speaker 1: They just gave it to Joe when we started doing this.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Does it rotate every time?
- 11:02Speaker 1: No, it does. And I have new ones each time.
- 11:05Speaker 1: It's really annoying.
- 11:07Speaker 3: No, I think you're doing a great job. You seem
- 11:09Speaker 3: like the kind of person who would abuse the privilege.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I did request that. I had an offline email to
- 11:14Speaker 2: the producers, and I said, hey, guys. He's like, I'm
- 11:16Speaker 2: not great at talking. Can you give me buttons? Make
- 11:21Speaker 2: this easy.
- 11:22Speaker 1: My brain is going everywhere. It gives me something fun
- 11:24Speaker 1: to look at and be like, ooh, what's this button?
- 11:27Speaker 1: It's a new one. That's the newest one. Pikachu.
- 11:32Speaker 3: What does it say? Pikachu. What does that say?
- 11:35Speaker 1: Pikachu. It's Pikachu saying Pikachu.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It kind of sounds like it's a Pokemon character.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Fuck you.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I thought it was like, bless you.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Oh, or it's bless you. Actually, that's good to know.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So if at any point, if I use it, it's
- 11:49Speaker 1: either bless if you sneeze or say something that I
- 11:52Speaker 1: think deserves.
- 11:53Speaker 3: What do you guys, because by the way, I want
- 11:54Speaker 3: to talk about practical magic, of course, but we will.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It's okay. We love it. This is all we do.
- 11:58Speaker 1: We just sit around and talk shit. So it's perfect. Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 3: But you know, I have, I come from, so you
- 12:03Speaker 3: are three brothers.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I come from three sisters.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Which is like, you know, it's the best. Um, do
- 12:11Speaker 3: if like, like, I mean, what if it happened today?
- 12:14Speaker 3: What if you guys have like a huge fight before
- 12:16Speaker 3: you have to like go interview.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Someone before we go interview someone, we canceled the interview.
- 12:22Speaker 3: No, no.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Like, I think at this point we've learned to just
- 12:25Speaker 1: call it out and like, what, what's wrong? Why are
- 12:28Speaker 1: you upset? Or like, sorry, sorry. That was offensive.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Oh, healthy, boring.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Healthy, boring stuff. But there's times when we're definitely holding
- 12:35Speaker 1: grudges and those days off are spent alone. Meditation, therapy,
- 12:42Speaker 1: these types of things. And you know what always helps?
- 12:44Speaker 1: You know what always helps, Joey? That'll keep you together.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Oh, there you go. I was like, sound effects?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Sound effects, primarily.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Money and sound. By the way, sound effects, that is,
- 12:55Speaker 3: I mean, listen, I was like the class clown of
- 12:58Speaker 3: my family. I was like, whenever there was tension, I'd
- 13:01Speaker 3: be like, hey, look at me. And so I was like,
- 13:03Speaker 3: miss sound effects when everyone was like fighting.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I'd be like. Well, same question then goes for you. Like,
- 13:10Speaker 1: how do you deal with your family?
- 13:11Speaker 2: You guys obviously are all in the business for the
- 13:13Speaker 2: most part. And so let's get some names here. Your
- 13:15Speaker 2: sister's names are?
- 13:17Speaker 3: Hunter King and Kelly King.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Great names. Hunter and Kelly.
- 13:19Speaker 2: How do you guys deal with conflict as a family?
- 13:21Speaker 2: I know we pretty much have to head it off
- 13:24Speaker 2: at the pass right away.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Do you guys do that too? Or do you guys
- 13:28Speaker 1: bury it, call mom, vent?
- 13:30Speaker 3: We're low-key conflict avoidant, to be honest. But Hunter, God
- 13:35Speaker 3: bless her, she's so conflict avoidant. She's such a sweet pie,
- 13:38Speaker 3: such a lover, so thoughtful. She would rather die than
- 13:42Speaker 3: say that you upset her. But she lets it go.
- 13:45Speaker 3: She doesn't hold on to it. Kelly is more like
- 13:47Speaker 3: you upset me. That was weird. Screw you. Let's talk
- 13:51Speaker 3: about it. And I'm like, cool. Me, I, I don't know.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I feel like I kind of just like let them
- 13:58Speaker 3: do their thing. It's rare that they upset me to
- 14:00Speaker 3: the degree where I'm like, I need to talk to
- 14:02Speaker 3: them about it. You know, what's interesting is like, okay,
- 14:06Speaker 3: so I'm obsessed with my sisters. I love them so much.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Of course we like annoy each other sometimes and get
- 14:11Speaker 3: into it. But I feel like there's like a sibling
- 14:13Speaker 3: thing where it's like, you know, if you're like mom
- 14:16Speaker 3: is yelling at your sibling. And even if you're annoyed
- 14:18Speaker 3: with your sibling, you just like, won't let that slide.
- 14:21Speaker 3: It's like, only you can yell at your sibling. So like,
- 14:23Speaker 3: that's kind of our relationship where it's like, oh my God,
- 14:26Speaker 3: I'm obsessed with my mom too. But if my mom
- 14:27Speaker 3: is like ragging on one of my sisters, I'm like, dad,
- 14:30Speaker 3: you can't do that here. That is not welcome here.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Like that is, you do not talk about her like that.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Only I talk about her like that.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's great that you have each other's backs like that though.
- 14:41Speaker 3: It's like to a degree where it's like, It's it's
- 14:45Speaker 3: it is the classic like no one can talk to
- 14:47Speaker 3: you like that except for me vibes, which I think
- 14:50Speaker 3: is like it's sweet. It's really nice. It's like very
- 14:53Speaker 3: it's cool to have people that are built into your
- 14:55Speaker 3: life that like no matter what, you will see them
- 14:58Speaker 3: grow up and become like there's definitely phases of life
- 15:01Speaker 3: with your siblings where you're like, oh, like I wonder
- 15:03Speaker 3: if that was my friend, if we would have stayed
- 15:05Speaker 3: friends or if we would have stayed friends. Yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It's like, will we really be friends if we weren't siblings?
- 15:11Speaker 3: And there's phases where you're like, I don't think so.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 3: What was the answer?
- 15:16Speaker 1: I think we wouldn't, I think we were all so different.
- 15:18Speaker 1: We are pretty different.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And there's like, and my sisters too. Yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I feel like that's the reason we're siblings. And also
- 15:24Speaker 2: because our parents had sex.
- 15:26Speaker 3: They did indeed. But nature nurtures. So interesting. Nature does
- 15:28Speaker 3: so much. And I feel like there's phases of life
- 15:31Speaker 3: for sure, where I'm like, I don't know if we
- 15:33Speaker 3: would have stayed friends. Like that's like, you know, who knows,
- 15:36Speaker 3: but like, because, and we're all in a phase right
- 15:38Speaker 3: now where we're like best friends. So tight percent would
- 15:42Speaker 3: be friends in real life kind of vibe. But like,
- 15:45Speaker 3: because we've gone through those phases where we weren't sure.
- 15:48Speaker 3: And now, now we're here. It's like cool to have
- 15:51Speaker 3: like a forced almost in a good way front row
- 15:53Speaker 3: seat to like people's lives that um you know maybe
- 15:57Speaker 3: you otherwise like wouldn't have because of blood.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Which is how often do you get to see your siblings.
- 16:01Speaker 3: A lot we live very close to each other um
- 16:04Speaker 3: my oldest sister especially because of the new baby i
- 16:07Speaker 3: go over to the house probably like i try to
- 16:09Speaker 3: go like twice as i can um thank you babies
- 16:12Speaker 3: are like i love this kid she's so awesome so
- 16:16Speaker 3: i see kelly like twice a week probably and hunter
- 16:18Speaker 3: travels a lot for work as do i so it's
- 16:21Speaker 3: like when she's in town i'll try to see her
- 16:23Speaker 3: like two to three times.
- 16:24Speaker 1: The best parts of each other you know yeah yeah but.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Then we'll go out of time for a long time
- 16:28Speaker 3: but we facetime and talk on the phone like most
- 16:30Speaker 3: like four times a week probably it's great.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Just to be like me and joe are gym facetimers
- 16:35Speaker 2: like and callers yeah we catch up that's when we
- 16:38Speaker 2: catch up Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You're on the, you're on the treadmill. I'm on the treadmill.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You're walking. I'm walking. And I'm waking up. So it's not.
- 16:44Speaker 3: That's what I do with my, my, I do gym
- 16:47Speaker 3: stuff too. It's like when I'm on the tread, I'm like, Oh,
- 16:49Speaker 3: I'm so bored.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Somebody distract me. It's great. It helps.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Cause I feel like maybe sisters are just like this,
- 16:55Speaker 3: but maybe brothers are too. Like what you do talk
- 16:57Speaker 3: about can just vary. It can just be like, Oh my,
- 17:01Speaker 3: like I dropped my Stanley cup today and it chipped
- 17:04Speaker 3: like genuinely like nothing. It's Stanley talk.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It's literally nothing.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It's a hell of a lot of nothing. I mean,
- 17:10Speaker 1: there's usually- Me and you would talk, we can talk
- 17:12Speaker 1: about nothing for a long time. I'm not a big
- 17:14Speaker 1: nothing talker.
- 17:14Speaker 2: No, Nick's like pretty, like he calls and you know,
- 17:17Speaker 2: like you're going to talk about something and then you're
- 17:19Speaker 2: going to hang up.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It was amazing. I respect that. I was watching you
- 17:22Speaker 1: in the car. I think you called or your wife
- 17:25Speaker 1: called or you called and you were like, hey, sleep well?
- 17:27Speaker 3: Great.
- 17:28Speaker 1: All right, I'll talk to you later.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Bye.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Love you. I was like, wow. Exactly. And it was efficient.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It was lovely. And it was like, we're good. And
- 17:35Speaker 1: that's how it is with Nick. It's like, he's like,
- 17:36Speaker 1: what's up? This morning I called you. I'm like, hey,
- 17:38Speaker 1: what's up?
- 17:38Speaker 2: Like, hey, I'm like, do you want to go to
- 17:41Speaker 2: the gym? And you're like, yeah, I'm going to eat first.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, see you in the gym. You're
- 17:45Speaker 2: nailing the voice, by the way.
- 17:46Speaker 1: The voice is spot on. It's just direct. Kevin's like, hey.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You want to talk.
- 17:50Speaker 2: He wants to get into it. I want to know
- 17:52Speaker 2: all the things I don't need to know. Am I
- 17:55Speaker 2: your first call or second call?
- 17:57Speaker 1: You're my first call.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Well, it's because you're on the East Coast. I don't
- 18:00Speaker 1: make these feels. No, because I can talk for longer.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I was on the East Coast earlier. I don't mind
- 18:04Speaker 1: at all.
- 18:04Speaker 3: You don't mind at all?
- 18:05Speaker 1: I've got stuff I'm doing. I'm doing stuff. It's okay.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He's busy. He's a busy man.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Wait, okay, forgive me for not remembering this off the
- 18:11Speaker 3: top of my head. Joe, you're the youngest, right?
- 18:15Speaker 1: I am youngest at heart. Nick, you're the youngest. We
- 18:19Speaker 1: have another brother, Franklin Jonas, who's the youngest.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Of course, the youngest of you three is what I am.
- 18:25Speaker 1: So he goes, Kevin, me, Nick, Franklin. Okay. Yeah. But
- 18:31Speaker 1: would you have thought that Joe was the youngest because
- 18:34Speaker 1: of his childish behavior?
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yes, exactly.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Because we're sitting in the same way. No, maybe you
- 18:39Speaker 1: just thought the way we were sitting.
- 18:41Speaker 3: No, I just, I feel like you and I are like,
- 18:44Speaker 3: we have the same kind of like.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Joe's no.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Joe's no. Exactly.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That's right.
- 18:49Speaker 3: But Nick, you're like, my husband's like that. I see,
- 18:51Speaker 3: I'm a chatter, chat, chat, chat, chat, chat, chat, like
- 18:53Speaker 3: about nothing. And... my husband, like he'll, of course I'm,
- 18:58Speaker 3: I'm usually just talking and he's just kind of like hanging.
- 19:00Speaker 1: He's taking it in.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And then like, he'll like, I'll say like this long
- 19:04Speaker 3: thing and I'll be like, isn't it crazy that like
- 19:06Speaker 3: anesthesia exists and it's like a long winded, like it's
- 19:09Speaker 3: like train of thought.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:11Speaker 3: And then like, and then I'll be done and he'll
- 19:13Speaker 3: be like, yeah, Yeah, and I'm like, all right, I'm
- 19:16Speaker 3: going to call my sister and say the same exact thing.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It's like this new trend you see online. It's like,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I feel like you just don't see me. And it's like, no,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I see you.
- 19:25Speaker 2: But I will balance this with, Nick, if you need
- 19:29Speaker 2: to just call to vent about something, he will be like,
- 19:35Speaker 2: he'll lock in.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Let's go. If you're like, I need to call you
- 19:39Speaker 1: just because this is really bothering me, or this thing's
- 19:42Speaker 1: bothering me, he'll be like, he's locked in. Tell me
- 19:44Speaker 1: if you have this with your sisters, but we have
- 19:46Speaker 1: a thing where we say, alright I gotta crank it
- 19:48Speaker 1: up and basically what that means is I need 15
- 19:51Speaker 1: minutes to bitch about something where basically you have to
- 19:55Speaker 1: agree with my take on this and support me maybe
- 19:57Speaker 1: not agree but I will have to be like you
- 20:00Speaker 1: gotta be there with me you can't be you're on
- 20:02Speaker 1: the ride with me this is a hypothetical situation but
- 20:05Speaker 1: it would be something like I'm gonna crank it up
- 20:06Speaker 1: for a sec okay this really pissed me off this
- 20:09Speaker 1: person did this thing and they can't chime in with, well,
- 20:12Speaker 1: maybe they were having a bad day. It's like, no,
- 20:15Speaker 1: you have to let me crank it up. Do you
- 20:16Speaker 1: have that with your sisters?
- 20:18Speaker 3: Of course.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:19Speaker 3: We don't call it crank it up, but I really
- 20:20Speaker 3: like that.
- 20:21Speaker 1: It's just, you're welcome to take it.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I have this with my mom too. If you call
- 20:23Speaker 3: and you just say, okay, I just need to vent
- 20:26Speaker 3: for a second. Like there's nothing anyone can like, don't
- 20:30Speaker 3: interrupt me to try to see the light of day.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It's like, you know, I'm a good person. Let me
- 20:35Speaker 1: have this.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:37Speaker 3: By the way, do you ever do that, too, where
- 20:38Speaker 3: you're like talking badly about maybe each other, maybe someone else?
- 20:42Speaker 1: I love them, but.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And then in the end, you're like, and I adore
- 20:45Speaker 3: them and they're the best person I know. And then
- 20:48Speaker 3: like every time I do that with my sisters, they're like, OK, OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 3: We know you love them. We know you're a good person. Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Go on. I know you love your sister. Yes, I
- 20:57Speaker 1: know that. But what's bothering you about that? It's OK.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You're allowed to be annoyed.
- 21:01Speaker 3: No, I really wonder, though. I really have to wonder, like,
- 21:04Speaker 3: when I'm the one that they're talking about together.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Right. They're saying it, too, though. They're saying, you know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: we love her.
- 21:10Speaker 3: What do they say? We love her so much. I'm
- 21:12Speaker 3: so perfect. What do they say?
- 21:14Speaker 1: That's how I feel. What could they say? Honestly, it
- 21:17Speaker 1: could just be like, oh, she's so perfect.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Ugh. Ugh.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It's so annoying.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Do it. Ugh. why is she like that she.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Got another huge movie what another award we have to
- 21:32Speaker 1: speak a little bit i love this sibling talk okay
- 21:34Speaker 1: but we gotta speak a little bit about your incredible
- 21:36Speaker 1: career starting with and and i got this little sheet
- 21:40Speaker 1: here uh which gave me this information which i'm absolutely
- 21:42Speaker 1: obsessed with because it's my favorite cereal ever your first
- 21:46Speaker 1: gig was in a life cereal commercial That's right. It's
- 21:49Speaker 1: your favorite cereal. That's my favorite cereal.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I agree.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It's actually Alina's favorite now too.
- 21:53Speaker 3: What is your favorite flavor of life cereal?
- 21:56Speaker 1: Cinnamon.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Me too.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So you're how old when you get this job?
- 21:59Speaker 3: Four.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So you get this job and soon after that you
- 22:02Speaker 1: start booking job after job.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Mostly commercials. I did, I think I did like 75 commercials.
- 22:08Speaker 1: 75 commercials. Casual. What was the gig- The first film
- 22:12Speaker 1: gig that you got and you're like, oh, it's on.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm starting this career as an actress.
- 22:18Speaker 3: You know, it's funny because you're not thinking about it
- 22:19Speaker 3: like that when you're a kid.
- 22:20Speaker 1: You're just having a good time. It's just fun.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah, you're just having a good time and you're like,
- 22:26Speaker 3: mom's putting away your money for you.
- 22:28Speaker 1: One would hope.
- 22:31Speaker 3: My first thing that I ever did that was a
- 22:33Speaker 3: film because I did commercials and I did TV guest spots,
- 22:36Speaker 3: you know, CSIs, all that jazz. Um, and my first
- 22:39Speaker 3: film was, I was cast as like Adam Sandler's dead
- 22:42Speaker 3: daughter in a flashback and a movie called rain over me. And,
- 22:46Speaker 3: and then I was like, no, I had like three
- 22:49Speaker 3: seconds of screen time. Um, but that was my first movie.
- 22:51Speaker 3: And then I like led a short film when I
- 22:55Speaker 3: was like six. Um, and that was really cool. But
- 23:00Speaker 3: the first time I was like, Oh, this is like,
- 23:03Speaker 3: now I'm like cognitively aware of how much responsibility this
- 23:06Speaker 3: is and also how much I love it and how
- 23:08Speaker 3: much work it takes and work ethic it takes. Like was,
- 23:12Speaker 3: was a movie I did called Ramona and Beezus. And
- 23:14Speaker 3: I was nine years old when I did that. And
- 23:17Speaker 3: I was like, I was so tired and also like
- 23:23Speaker 3: fulfilled at nine, which is such an interesting feeling. And
- 23:28Speaker 3: I knew that, that I wanted to try and do
- 23:31Speaker 3: this forever then. But you know, what's funny is when
- 23:33Speaker 3: you're nine years old, you're not like, oh, and there's
- 23:35Speaker 3: a possibility it won't work out. You're just kind of like,
- 23:38Speaker 3: this is what I want to do. So I'm going
- 23:39Speaker 3: to do it. And luckily there's like a confidence, like
- 23:42Speaker 3: a kind of a false confidence that comes with that,
- 23:44Speaker 3: that I think really helped carry me through some difficult
- 23:48Speaker 3: moments in my career. Lots and lots and lots of
- 23:51Speaker 3: rejection that I just did not let phase me. Lots of,
- 23:55Speaker 3: you know, bizarre moments where you're just like, being told
- 23:59Speaker 3: things about how you look and how you act and
- 24:01Speaker 3: when you're a kid. But I do think that there
- 24:03Speaker 3: was something that I just, I don't know what it was.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I just always had like a natural confidence as a
- 24:08Speaker 3: kid that I've actually lost a lot of now that
- 24:10Speaker 3: I'm older. But it did carry me through, I think,
- 24:15Speaker 3: a lot of the feelings that might have come with inhibition.
- 24:17Speaker 3: And I just felt really uninhibited growing up as an actress,
- 24:21Speaker 3: which was, I think, probably the most helpful tool that
- 24:24Speaker 3: I had.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That's amazing. That is really cool. And also, you know,
- 24:27Speaker 1: I think the time that we met you was around
- 24:29Speaker 1: the time Ramona Beezus came out. It's a big announcement
- 24:32Speaker 1: when it happened. You carried yourself, you know, so professionally
- 24:35Speaker 1: through that, that, that whole press run in the movie.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I mean, from my memory, we met you a few
- 24:41Speaker 1: times during that time. Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Yeah. And I think I was just having so much
- 24:45Speaker 3: fun and I was so hyper. And now I'm like,
- 24:47Speaker 3: I'm like, was I too hyper?
- 24:48Speaker 1: But as you're a kid, you want to, you know,
- 24:49Speaker 1: actor kids like, and we were working at a young age.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So we kind of had some of that actor kid
- 24:54Speaker 1: where you, you're told to look somebody in the eye,
- 24:56Speaker 1: shake their hand, and carry an adult conversation because that's
- 24:59Speaker 1: what you have to do when you're on set. And
- 25:02Speaker 1: there are, I will say, there are some that, as
- 25:05Speaker 1: they get older, I think lose track of what it
- 25:07Speaker 1: means to just be a person that's not being handed
- 25:09Speaker 1: a script that is like, this is who you are today,
- 25:11Speaker 1: to actually develop your own personality. And it makes a
- 25:14Speaker 1: lot of sense based on what you've spoken about with
- 25:16Speaker 1: your family dynamic and your mom and all that stuff
- 25:18Speaker 1: that that family is really important to you. And I
- 25:20Speaker 1: think it's the only thing that helps you as a
- 25:22Speaker 1: child performer understand sort of not end up as a
- 25:25Speaker 1: person with no personality who's just waiting to be told
- 25:27Speaker 1: where to stand and what to say.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really grounding to have a real life. When
- 25:31Speaker 3: I would come home from work and I would come
- 25:34Speaker 3: back to Simi Valley from wherever I was traveling, I
- 25:36Speaker 3: had a genuine real life at home. I had real hobbies,
- 25:41Speaker 3: real interests.
- 25:42Speaker 1: That's so great.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Real addiction to Sims. Oh, dude.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Hold on. Now we're talking.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Hold on. Six hours a day I would play as
- 25:51Speaker 3: long as my mom would let me. In the summertime.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Do you still play sometimes? No, I haven't played in
- 25:57Speaker 3: a long time because I know that.
- 25:58Speaker 1: She's an adult, Kevin. It's fully, it's amazing now. It's
- 26:02Speaker 1: all on. You put your sim in the pool, take
- 26:04Speaker 1: the ladder away.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Take the ladder out!
- 26:06Speaker 1: Take the ladder out, wait for the Grim Reaper to arrive!
- 26:09Speaker 1: Just see what happens. Everyone's done it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Take out all the doors, start a house fire.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so funny.
- 26:16Speaker 3: How old were you guys when you started.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Performing? Well, Nick started when you were like six or seven.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Six or seven. Correct.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I did Broadway first as a kid. We all do
- 26:28Speaker 1: like commercials and stuff, but we started around six, seven, nine, ten-ish.
- 26:34Speaker 2: My first open casting call was for Miracle on 34th
- 26:37Speaker 2: Street when they were potentially going to go with a
- 26:39Speaker 2: boy instead of a girl for the film.
- 26:40Speaker 1: My first commercial was for Burger King, and it was
- 26:44Speaker 1: for a Scooby-Doo crossover.
- 26:48Speaker 2: It was the Halloween thing. Yeah, and so- No, they
- 26:51Speaker 2: had a movie coming out. So they were doing like
- 26:52Speaker 2: the collaboration.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Was it Spooky Island?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Spooky Island. Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And they had like put, and like they made a
- 26:59Speaker 2: mold of my face. And I was like, I think
- 27:01Speaker 2: eight years old. It was your birthday.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It was on my birthday. I had to do the mold.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Were you so scared?
- 27:04Speaker 1: I was terrified. It didn't work.
- 27:06Speaker 2: So I had to come back again. And I remember
- 27:07Speaker 2: crying after we left and I was just so devastated.
- 27:10Speaker 2: And our mom was.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Like props to her. She was like, you don't have
- 27:14Speaker 1: to do this, but the family is expecting the money
- 27:16Speaker 1: from what's. No, she was like, she's like, you don't
- 27:19Speaker 1: have to do this if you don't want to. And
- 27:20Speaker 1: I was like, I want to do it. So I
- 27:21Speaker 1: went back, did the mold again. And then like, yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 1: they ripped my face off. It's so scary.
- 27:27Speaker 3: The ones where they like put the straws in the nose.
- 27:30Speaker 1: That's what it was. Yeah. And you just sit there
- 27:32Speaker 1: for like an hour and a half and you just
- 27:33Speaker 1: close your eyes. Like what? It's insane. We haven't figured
- 27:38Speaker 1: out a better way to do it yet.
- 27:39Speaker 3: No, I mean, genuinely, that is like, I, that's like
- 27:42Speaker 3: one thing. If I ever, like, anytime I work on
- 27:44Speaker 3: a job, I'm like, Hey, I don't even, even if
- 27:46Speaker 3: it's just like a job where it's just like people
- 27:48Speaker 3: in a room talking, like I just warn everybody at
- 27:51Speaker 3: the beginning. I'm like, I'm not doing that thing.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm not doing that thing. I'll never do that thing.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I am claustrophobic. I get an MRI.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So, so you're, You're about to go into a press
- 28:07Speaker 1: tour for Practical Magic 2, correct?
- 28:10Speaker 3: Yeah, we've started a little bit, but yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 1: So obviously you've got some newcomers in this movie. I
- 28:14Speaker 1: think her name is, is it Sandra? Sandra? I think
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's Balok. Oh, okay. And the other one, her name
- 28:21Speaker 1: is Nicky... Nicolay. Nicolay, okay.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Nicolay. Nicolay Kaidman. Yes, yes.
- 28:27Speaker 1: This is your second movie with Nicole Kidman, right?
- 28:31Speaker 3: That is correct.
- 28:32Speaker 1: That's incredible. Not a lot of people. can say that. Also,
- 28:37Speaker 1: not a lot of people can say that they are Emmy,
- 28:40Speaker 1: Golden Globe, and SAG, and Critics' Choice Award nominee for
- 28:44Speaker 1: the act, which was incredible, by the way. You've worked
- 28:46Speaker 1: with some pretty amazing actors. I'm not going to ask
- 28:51Speaker 1: you to pick your favorite, but just pick your least favorite. Okay.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I do have a question. Across all the actors you've
- 28:58Speaker 1: had the chance to work with, some incredible names, is
- 29:02Speaker 1: there an onset, not memory, but like a thing you
- 29:07Speaker 1: learn from somebody else. You don't have to say who
- 29:08Speaker 1: it is where you're like, wow, that's a movie star
- 29:10Speaker 1: doing a movie star thing that you've now adopted as
- 29:13Speaker 1: number one on the call sheet, which for those that
- 29:14Speaker 1: don't know, that means you're the top person on the
- 29:17Speaker 1: call sheet. Straight offers. Straight cash on me.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Yeah, only cash. Fast escrow. That's a good question. Something
- 29:27Speaker 3: that comes to mind is I mean, there's a lot
- 29:30Speaker 3: of people that I feel like have taught me so
- 29:32Speaker 3: much along, because I grew up on sets, just like,
- 29:34Speaker 3: you know, you guys did too. It's like, you get it.
- 29:35Speaker 3: It's like, you're working with adults. You're kind of just
- 29:37Speaker 3: like a bit of a sponge. Sometimes you can't even
- 29:40Speaker 3: remember where you learned something, but you know, someone awesome
- 29:42Speaker 3: taught it to you. Um, but I feel like Patricia
- 29:46Speaker 3: Arquette on the act, I had some really sensitive scenes
- 29:50Speaker 3: where I was like doing, um, like, stuff without my
- 29:56Speaker 3: clothes on for the first time. And that was like very,
- 30:00Speaker 3: you know, I had this, like always had this very
- 30:02Speaker 3: flippant attitude towards stuff like that, where I was like, yeah, like,
- 30:05Speaker 3: I don't want to make a big thing of it.
- 30:07Speaker 3: I don't want anyone else to feel uncomfortable. So I'm
- 30:09Speaker 3: not going to be uncomfortable. So it's like, fine. You
- 30:11Speaker 3: know what I mean? But ultimately there was like, like,
- 30:15Speaker 3: you know, a couple moments where Patricia felt like I
- 30:18Speaker 3: wasn't being like, true to myself, like respecting what I
- 30:25Speaker 3: really felt, which was just like little common courtesies that
- 30:28Speaker 3: I could have been asking for. And she was super
- 30:30Speaker 3: protective and super, like super kind to everybody about it. So,
- 30:34Speaker 3: but she was just like setting up boundaries for me
- 30:36Speaker 3: to kind of learn and, and take with me in
- 30:40Speaker 3: the future, um, in a very kind way that was
- 30:43Speaker 3: just like, if I protect myself in this way, I'm
- 30:45Speaker 3: ultimately protecting everybody else too, from feeling uncomfortable as well.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And that was a really powerful lesson because I think
- 30:52Speaker 3: when you are a child actor, you sometimes grow up
- 30:54Speaker 3: being a little too agreeable, a little too people-pleasing and
- 30:58Speaker 3: a little too like, yeah, whatever, like in situations where
- 31:02Speaker 3: it's kind of like not, yeah, whatever. And you can
- 31:05Speaker 3: always be kind about it. You don't have to be forceful.
- 31:07Speaker 3: You don't have to be rude. But there is like
- 31:10Speaker 3: a thing that I think I had to unlearn, which
- 31:13Speaker 3: was just like, being quote down for whatever, whatever anyone
- 31:17Speaker 3: needed of me, which you can still be like that,
- 31:20Speaker 3: but like protect yourself a little bit more. And so
- 31:22Speaker 3: she kind of just helped me create that understanding of
- 31:26Speaker 3: what that boundary would look like. And I thought that
- 31:28Speaker 3: was pretty amazing because she just, she took such good
- 31:32Speaker 3: care of me on that set and we took good
- 31:35Speaker 3: care of each other because it was a very, very
- 31:37Speaker 3: dramatic piece. And I learned a lot from her just
- 31:40Speaker 3: like as a person, as an actress and as like,
- 31:43Speaker 3: you know, as a, she's like a natural mother. And
- 31:46Speaker 3: I think that that's so beautiful.
- 31:48Speaker 1: What a great answer. I love her. And I'd love
- 31:50Speaker 1: to have her on this pod actually as well.
- 31:52Speaker 3: So please put it in your head is the coolest.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 3: She's probably say yes. You know, she's just like down.
- 31:57Speaker 3: She's down for it all. She's down to clown hit
- 32:00Speaker 3: buzzers and sound effects. That's actually where Joe's sitting. Oh,
- 32:03Speaker 3: she does this.
- 32:04Speaker 1: She can. I'll be on zoom. She can walk us
- 32:07Speaker 1: through what the next couple of weeks looks like with
- 32:08Speaker 1: the promo schedule. Are you, are you traveling a ton?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Are you doing it from LA? What's the vibes?
- 32:14Speaker 3: The vibes are L.A. and travel. I'm traveling to London
- 32:18Speaker 3: and New York, back to L.A., then back to New York,
- 32:23Speaker 3: which will be great. I'm very, very pleased to be
- 32:28Speaker 3: on a press tour. Press tours are fun. They're scary
- 32:30Speaker 3: just for the flights, but everything else is great. I'm
- 32:32Speaker 3: a little bit afraid of flying. I always say I've
- 32:34Speaker 3: been gotten worse as I've gotten older. What can you do?
- 32:37Speaker 1: It does get worse as you get older, I feel like.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I feel the same way.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Everything does, huh?
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Kind of.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Yeah. I keep saying, and I do believe this to
- 32:46Speaker 3: be true. When I turned 25 and my frontal lobe
- 32:50Speaker 3: allegedly fully developed, I hated it. Oh my God. It
- 32:54Speaker 3: was like the worst year ever. 25 and 26 were terrible.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I felt too, I felt too aware. I was like, Oh,
- 33:02Speaker 3: I just wish I was like dumber, just like half
- 33:04Speaker 3: a percent, which is like what I think the frontal
- 33:07Speaker 3: lobe thing did turned up something too aware. And I
- 33:10Speaker 3: was like, I feel like that is something people need
- 33:14Speaker 3: to prepare people for better. How much you will suffer.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You know too much now.
- 33:21Speaker 3: And you also feel like you know, and then because
- 33:23Speaker 3: you know too much, you feel like you know nothing
- 33:25Speaker 3: about anything.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And also you're suspicious about everything.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Too. Correct. Correct. Absolutely. Yeah. I do feel like the
- 33:33Speaker 3: fear of flying does get a little bit worse as
- 33:35Speaker 3: you get older. I do have a, I do have
- 33:38Speaker 3: a rule though with myself. I don't take anything on
- 33:41Speaker 3: domestic flights because it's just like not long enough. Just
- 33:45Speaker 3: got to get through it.
- 33:45Speaker 1: That plane could always get diverted. And then all of
- 33:47Speaker 1: a sudden it's like you're in and it's not, it's
- 33:50Speaker 1: not right. Crazy. Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Um, but with overseas flights, I always take a little
- 33:56Speaker 3: sleep aid. Um, and I usually wait till like, if it's,
- 34:00Speaker 3: I'm coming from LA to overseas, I usually wait till
- 34:02Speaker 3: we get near New York because I want to be
- 34:04Speaker 3: out when we fly over the ocean.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Out over that ocean. Oh my God.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not fun. So your husband, will he be
- 34:12Speaker 1: joining you for this trip or is he working at
- 34:14Speaker 1: the moment?
- 34:15Speaker 3: He'll be staying home with our lovely dog.
- 34:17Speaker 1: You have how many dogs?
- 34:18Speaker 3: Her name's Fable. She's a rescue from Romania.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Wow. We love a rescue. We love the name Fable.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Are you in Romania when you saw this dog or
- 34:26Speaker 1: are you just Yes, I was.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I was working there. Yeah, I was working there for
- 34:30Speaker 3: seven months on a show called We Were the Lucky Ones.
- 34:33Speaker 3: And it was a very sad show, very heavy subject matter.
- 34:37Speaker 3: And I was just like in the winter of Romania,
- 34:41Speaker 3: missing my dog and my family so much. And I
- 34:44Speaker 3: was like, I'm going to go volunteer at a shelter.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Which is always, there's always a little.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Room in your mind for.
- 34:50Speaker 3: There's always a, it's like the first problem. Exactly. Because
- 34:53Speaker 3: I don't know if you guys know this, there's like
- 34:55Speaker 3: an incredible stray dog problem in Romania. They are everywhere.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Like unbelievable. They're like, like, it's just so heartbreaking. It's
- 35:05Speaker 3: so crazy. So I, um, I went to a shelter
- 35:08Speaker 3: to volunteer and just bring like goodies and hang out
- 35:11Speaker 3: with the dogs. And then of course I Fell in
- 35:14Speaker 3: love with Miss Fable, who was formerly named Bon Bon,
- 35:18Speaker 3: but now her name's Fable.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Cute name, too. All right, so as we do with
- 35:22Speaker 1: all our guests, we have a bowl of questions here
- 35:25Speaker 1: that have nothing to do with your life or career.
- 35:26Speaker 1: They're just random.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Or ours.
- 35:27Speaker 1: We don't know what they are. Just random stuff. We're
- 35:30Speaker 1: going to pull a question, and we'd love for you
- 35:32Speaker 1: to answer it. Just chime in. What's your favorite childhood memory? Oh,
- 35:36Speaker 1: you had a good one.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Wholesome. Okay, first child in memory, I'll say the first
- 35:41Speaker 3: one that comes to my mind right now is when
- 35:43Speaker 3: my sister Hunter helped me pull out my first tooth
- 35:47Speaker 3: when my parents were out of the house. Was it this?
- 35:52Speaker 1: No.
- 35:54Speaker 3: It was just a very sweet sister bonding moment. We
- 35:58Speaker 3: were both jumping around the house screaming with excitement after
- 36:02Speaker 3: it was done. She was like, I can't believe I
- 36:04Speaker 3: did it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I was like, I can't believe you did it.
- 36:06Speaker 3: It was so cute.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I love that. It's a great memory. What's one thing
- 36:10Speaker 1: someone can do that instantly makes you feel loved? Pulling
- 36:13Speaker 1: out a tooth. Yep.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Just yank my teeth out. I really love that. It's
- 36:18Speaker 3: my thing. My husband cooks for me almost every night,
- 36:22Speaker 3: and that always makes.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Me feel better. That's amazing. Winner.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I know.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I've got to learn how to cook. I've been saying
- 36:28Speaker 1: that for years.
- 36:29Speaker 3: That's a long one. I know.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Some of them I can't stop once I hit the button. Um,
- 36:35Speaker 1: that's so sweet. What's one of your, what's one of
- 36:38Speaker 1: his specialties? What does he cook that you're like, Oh yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Um, he makes, he makes my, my favorite is spaghetti meatballs.
- 36:43Speaker 3: He does the sauce and the meatballs homemade. It's like
- 36:45Speaker 3: my favorite thing. Fantastic.
- 36:49Speaker 1: So thanks. Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 3: He makes 24 hour like sous vide barbecue pork ribs,
- 36:54Speaker 3: which is like another one of my favorite things.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Yeah. We're coming over.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Yeah, guys, you should come over. It's really great. It's
- 36:59Speaker 3: going to be a good time. He loves a dinner
- 37:01Speaker 3: party too. He loves cooking for it. He likes to like,
- 37:05Speaker 3: that's his like biggest way of like, I want to
- 37:07Speaker 3: show people I care about them and love them. I
- 37:09Speaker 3: want to break bread with people. And I'm like, Oh, cute.
- 37:12Speaker 1: It's amazing. Let's do one more. What's your favorite season
- 37:17Speaker 1: and why?
- 37:19Speaker 3: Winter. You know what?
- 37:20Speaker 1: A fellow winter person. I like it.
- 37:22Speaker 3: I'm not, I mean, listen, born and raised in LA.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I don't really feel like I have a lot of
- 37:25Speaker 3: grounds to scrap ground to stand on here with saying
- 37:28Speaker 3: that I feel like it's annoying to people who are
- 37:29Speaker 3: from cold climates, but I just think a winter with
- 37:34Speaker 3: like cozy, cold, like it's so, like there's something so
- 37:38Speaker 3: romantic about that. Something so like, oh, it's just, it
- 37:41Speaker 3: makes me feel like there's like a nice contrast to life.
- 37:44Speaker 3: You get to watch movies, you get to, You have
- 37:46Speaker 3: candles going. You get to be chilly. And then you
- 37:49Speaker 3: can enjoy the summer. Right now, I feel like my
- 37:53Speaker 3: privileged West Coast life, I'm just, like, annoyed with this.
- 37:56Speaker 1: It's so beautiful all the time. No, it's too hot.
- 37:59Speaker 1: You don't get our problems as L.A. people. It's too
- 38:03Speaker 1: hot for us. It's way too hot.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I really can't. I can't take it. My in-laws live
- 38:10Speaker 3: in Chicago, and I love going there. Love Chicago. Mm-hmm.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Like the winter time.
- 38:14Speaker 1: A little breeze off the lake.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Oh my God, look at all of us playing games
- 38:16Speaker 3: on the coffee table. We're so cute. You know what
- 38:18Speaker 3: I mean?
- 38:19Speaker 1: A little wood burning fireplace going.
- 38:20Speaker 2: There's nothing better than Christmas with a little bit of snow.
- 38:22Speaker 1: You know?
- 38:23Speaker 3: I know. Why Christmas? Like, what can you do? I've only,
- 38:26Speaker 3: I've had that twice in my life.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Have you done a Christmas movie before?
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Uh, yes.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Kind of. Christmas has happened in movies.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Okay. Christmas has happened.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Christmas doesn't exist.
- 38:39Speaker 1: It's her contract. All right, well, we appreciate you coming
- 38:41Speaker 1: on the pod. Thank you so much, Joey. Fantastic guest.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Practical Magic 2 is in theaters starting September 10th, everyone,
- 38:47Speaker 2: so make sure you check it out.
- 38:48Speaker 1: It's going to be huge.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Thank you for having me. Love you guys.
- 38:51Speaker 1: We love you. Thank you, Joey. We'll see you at
- 38:53Speaker 1: the next show.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Bye.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Bye. What a guest. She was awesome. What a great guest.
- 39:00Speaker 1: She's so fun. I love when guests come on and
- 39:03Speaker 1: they just wanted to talk, you know? She's like, yeah,
- 39:05Speaker 1: we'll talk about the movie. I like when they're just like,
- 39:07Speaker 1: you know, we're going to get to the thing, but
- 39:09Speaker 1: they're here to hang. I love that.
- 39:10Speaker 2: And when you do like 500 movies or so like her,
- 39:12Speaker 2: she's like, it doesn't matter.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I was looking at the filmography before we had
- 39:18Speaker 1: her on.
- 39:19Speaker 3: It's a lot.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It's like Dark Knight Rises, Crazy Stupid Love, The Act.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I mean, the number of baller actors that she's worked
- 39:28Speaker 1: with and filmmakers is pretty wild. But now it's time
- 39:32Speaker 1: for us to go. As we always say on the
- 39:34Speaker 1: Hey Jones podcast. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
