- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll start Toyota Presents Off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:03Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn say.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hester and Hester.
- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each
- 0:11Speaker 1: other on the air roll from the live from the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Mercedes Benz Baton Rouge Studio. It's off the bench.
- 0:25Speaker 2: All right, Welcome back in nour number three of OTB
- 0:27Speaker 2: here on one O four five ESPN Baton Rouge. I
- 0:30Speaker 2: am very excited to catch up with our next guest.
- 0:33Speaker 2: It is Josh Pate, who is the host of You Guessed,
- 0:35Speaker 2: The Josh Pate College Football Show. Also he is the
- 0:39Speaker 2: head coach, offense and defensive coordinator and athletic director for
- 0:43Speaker 2: the Pate State Frights.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Josh, what is going on? Sarah? Glad to have you
- 0:46Speaker 3: on the show.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I'm glad to be here. I don't know why more
- 0:49Speaker 4: people take that approach. Just fill every single role that way,
- 0:54Speaker 4: either at a total success or a total failure, and
- 0:57Speaker 4: not some gray area. I know.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We got Billy Napier out here with seventy three blue
- 1:03Speaker 2: polos in his team picture. He's got a coordinator of
- 1:06Speaker 2: game changing moments when Billy could just do it all himself.
- 1:10Speaker 4: It's look, it's something that I fully plan on sending
- 1:13Speaker 4: a handwritten letter to every athletic department suggesting we'll see
- 1:16Speaker 4: if they take it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Absolutely all right, So Josh here obviously, like we're oning
- 1:20Speaker 2: in Louisiana. So we've been following college baseball. Lshue makes
- 1:23Speaker 2: their run, they win a championship, but pretty soon after
- 1:26Speaker 2: it's like, okay, well we can see in the distance
- 1:28Speaker 2: it is football season. It is on the horizon media days.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We'll be here in a couple of weeks. Like, what
- 1:33Speaker 2: about for you, Like, are you ready to fully jump in?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Obviously you do college football year round, but once baseball
- 1:40Speaker 2: finishes up, it's that last sport of the calendar year
- 1:42Speaker 2: for the twenty four to twenty five cycle, and now
- 1:45Speaker 2: it truly does feel like football season.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Are you like cannonballing into the deep end?
- 1:50Speaker 4: I kind of am, but I was never I never
- 1:53Speaker 4: viewed the calendar that way. College baseball for me, I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 4: I know this is really really dirty to say, down
- 1:59Speaker 4: in your neck woods. The college baseball for me, I've
- 2:02Speaker 4: always thought of it as the audio bed, if you will,
- 2:06Speaker 4: sort of the background noise as I'm already getting ready
- 2:10Speaker 4: for college football, Like I'm watching it, but even when
- 2:13Speaker 4: I was way, way younger, I always thought of it
- 2:15Speaker 4: as that's what's on the TV in my room as
- 2:19Speaker 4: I'm reading Phil Still's magazine or something like that. So
- 2:22Speaker 4: I'm already in, like I've been in for thirty minutes,
- 2:25Speaker 4: and now everyone's jumping in and they're complaining about how
- 2:28Speaker 4: cold the water is, and I'm like, just give it
- 2:30Speaker 4: a second. You'll like, you'll acclimate, you'll adjust. The worst
- 2:34Speaker 4: part to me is all this stuff we've been talking about,
- 2:38Speaker 4: whether it's the house settlement, whether it's the playoff realignment,
- 2:42Speaker 4: which format is the best? Some of us and I
- 2:45Speaker 4: assume you guys have done this too, We have talked
- 2:47Speaker 4: to we're blue in the face about it. And you
- 2:50Speaker 4: know as well as I do. You'll get up to
- 2:52Speaker 4: Atlanta in a few weeks for media days and they'll
- 2:54Speaker 4: be people almost speak as if they are breaking news
- 2:59Speaker 4: that those are on the agendatory Guys, did you know
- 3:02Speaker 4: they're going to expand the plus? What do we think
- 3:04Speaker 4: about it?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Oh, there's no question about that. That is absolutely how
- 3:09Speaker 3: it always plays out.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But as soon as you said Phil Steel magazine, like
- 3:13Speaker 2: I have to ask you, I got to get your
- 3:14Speaker 2: grade on this. So in the magazine the last three
- 3:18Speaker 2: years overall my serious XM show me ej Manuel, Bobby Carpenter.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He's allowed us to put our all meathead team together
- 3:25Speaker 2: because look, we're three meatheads, and it's like it's a
- 3:27Speaker 2: term of endearment. So we get to go like a
- 3:30Speaker 2: full twenty two, like eleven on offense, eleven on defense.
- 3:34Speaker 2: If you got to select an all meathead quarterback for
- 3:38Speaker 2: college football this year, who would you go with?
- 3:40Speaker 3: And I'll tell you who we picked after I hear
- 3:41Speaker 3: your answer.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Oh man, it's only it's tough. Let me think. Let
- 3:49Speaker 4: me think what level did you go? P five or
- 3:51Speaker 4: G five five?
- 3:53Speaker 2: I went, I went power for and I went with
- 3:56Speaker 2: somebody that's a true If he would have won one
- 4:02Speaker 2: of his games at the very end of the year,
- 4:04Speaker 2: we'd be talking about him way more.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Well, then you're not talking about Pavi, are you.
- 4:09Speaker 2: No, he was in the running, so diego. Pavia was
- 4:11Speaker 2: in the running. He actually, Okay, I'll go ahead and
- 4:13Speaker 2: tell you because they'll give you an idea. We went
- 4:15Speaker 2: with Haines King Georgia Tech. If he beats Georgia in
- 4:19Speaker 2: that eight overtime game, I think we're talking about him differently.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Now know, Diego Pavia beat him in a bowl game
- 4:24Speaker 2: as well, but we went with Haines King because he
- 4:27Speaker 2: is tougher than a two dollars stake.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know what, you're describing their entire team.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I like what you're saying about King. I feel about
- 4:34Speaker 4: their entire team, both in terms of identity but recognizability too.
- 4:39Speaker 4: If they would have won that game. And the reason
- 4:42Speaker 4: you're saying it like that, I assume is clause, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 4: scenario A, Scenario B, they're pretty much the same player,
- 4:48Speaker 4: They're pretty much the same team, except scenario B they
- 4:51Speaker 4: end up, you know, winning the coin flip eight overtime whatever.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Everyone's all of a sudden talking about him as a
- 4:57Speaker 4: sleeper for the ACC Championship. They're talking about him as
- 5:01Speaker 4: a fringe Heisman contender, and I look at it and
- 5:05Speaker 4: I say, well, why aren't they those things? Anyway? I
- 5:08Speaker 4: legitimately think Georgia Tech can compete for the ACC this year.
- 5:13Speaker 4: I think if you put let's say, if you put
- 5:16Speaker 4: a Florida State helmet sticker on that team and you
- 5:21Speaker 4: just described everything about their returning production and this and that,
- 5:24Speaker 4: people would be a lot more free and easy to
- 5:27Speaker 4: pick them to compete and win. It's just they haven't
- 5:30Speaker 4: seen Georgia Tech do it. So understandably, there's a lot
- 5:33Speaker 4: of doubt out there in the college football public about that.
- 5:36Speaker 4: I don't have that doubt. Like I love what Brent
- 5:39Speaker 4: Key is as a coach. I love that program. That
- 5:42Speaker 4: team perfectly reflects his identity. Like watching them play, it's
- 5:46Speaker 4: like watching his thumbprints on a team. And they get
- 5:49Speaker 4: their biggest two games at home this year and elsewhere.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I think they may be favored in the other ten.
- 5:55Speaker 4: I just don't know that folks have like realized they
- 5:59Speaker 4: should take them seriously.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yet you're talking about Haines King a just a hell
- 6:04Speaker 5: of a East Texan as well. Yeah he's right there
- 6:06Speaker 5: from Yeah he's from Longview, Texas and his dad being
- 6:08Speaker 5: a head coach, just like a tough, tough kid. Josh,
- 6:11Speaker 5: what's up, man, This is Matt flinn Man. Pleasure to
- 6:14Speaker 5: talk to you. My mind is always going to go
- 6:17Speaker 5: towards the quarterbacks, and we just talked about Haines King there.
- 6:20Speaker 5: But in the summer you're kind of looking for stories
- 6:23Speaker 5: to talk about. But something popped up pretty good, and
- 6:25Speaker 5: I'm especially interested in stories about quarterbacks and a positive
- 6:29Speaker 5: light and doing things the right way. But nor Seller,
- 6:31Speaker 5: South Carolina quarterback who just came on so strong last year,
- 6:34Speaker 5: he got a lot of hype going into this year.
- 6:36Speaker 5: The story comes out from his dad that he may
- 6:39Speaker 5: or may not have turned down eight million dollars NIL
- 6:42Speaker 5: deals to stay there because his dad said, well, we
- 6:46Speaker 5: made a commitment. We didn't go there to make a
- 6:48Speaker 5: bunch of money. Came there to be a student athlete,
- 6:49Speaker 5: win championships, do things the right way. When you saw
- 6:52Speaker 5: the story, what is that like? As a quarterback who
- 6:56Speaker 5: tried to do things the right way? It made me
- 6:57Speaker 5: feel awesome be a fan of this kid. So what
- 7:00Speaker 5: do you think about that story? Just like the nil
- 7:02Speaker 5: mess and when it comes to quarterbacks.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I'm glad it came out. They were talking about that
- 7:07Speaker 4: on campus the spring when I was up there, and
- 7:10Speaker 4: you know, it's his personal business, so it's his story
- 7:12Speaker 4: to tell. I'm not, you know when I'm privy to
- 7:15Speaker 4: that stuff, like I'm not some newsbreaker. But I said, well,
- 7:18Speaker 4: why why don't you tell that story? That story? It's
- 7:21Speaker 4: not braggadocious to tell that story. It really helps the
- 7:24Speaker 4: overall sport to tell that story. I'll tell you another
- 7:27Speaker 4: one that's done. That is rock Obeck up at Iowa State.
- 7:30Speaker 4: That kid could have made three times what he's making
- 7:33Speaker 4: in ames Iowa to leave the past two years, by
- 7:35Speaker 4: the way, and he stayed there. Now, you can say
- 7:39Speaker 4: what you just said, and I wholeheartedly agree with you.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Like that right there is a glaring example of what's
- 7:45Speaker 4: good and what should as me and Ma always say,
- 7:48Speaker 4: but also think about how think about how that perspective
- 7:52Speaker 4: ends up working. You've got what you know what I
- 7:54Speaker 4: always call penny wise pounds foolish approaches to college football,
- 7:59Speaker 4: and that is this guy's offering me more. I'm going
- 8:02Speaker 4: over there, and it just maybe to like a fan,
- 8:05Speaker 4: that makes sense. Oh, that guy's got to go get
- 8:07Speaker 4: his money while he can. No It oftentimes doesn't even
- 8:11Speaker 4: make sense in that vein because at the expense of
- 8:14Speaker 4: your development, your progression, and your future earnings potentials, you're
- 8:20Speaker 4: going and chasing sixty thousand extra dollars. And that's great
- 8:24Speaker 4: in the moment. Sixty k is not going to matter
- 8:26Speaker 4: to you fifteen sixteen years down the road. But yet,
- 8:31Speaker 4: having stayed the course, especially at a place that's good
- 8:34Speaker 4: for you, if you're in a toxic place. That's different
- 8:37Speaker 4: if you leave a place that's good for you and
- 8:39Speaker 4: you're the guy saying, hey, I wanted to stay there,
- 8:41Speaker 4: but I had to make a business decision. Maybe you
- 8:44Speaker 4: just made the wrong business decision. So I'm glad that
- 8:46Speaker 4: story went public.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great story. And Josh, don't break news
- 8:50Speaker 5: here if it's not public. Infert I was trying to
- 8:52Speaker 5: look for it as well. But he gives up eight
- 8:55Speaker 5: million to go. Do you know what he's like? His
- 8:59Speaker 5: takeome is right now with South Carolina.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Well, so it was gonna be an eight million over
- 9:04Speaker 4: two years, So it was gonna be I think about
- 9:06Speaker 4: a four million per year. He's not making that there,
- 9:10Speaker 4: but he's making more than half that I think there.
- 9:13Speaker 4: And South Carolina is a place that they're gonna like
- 9:16Speaker 4: most places that know what they're doing, they're gonna pay
- 9:19Speaker 4: on a scale that is in accordance with performance and
- 9:22Speaker 4: real value. And so he's gonna make good money there.
- 9:25Speaker 4: But also I want you to pretend you're a major
- 9:30Speaker 4: enterprise in the state of South Carolina and your CEO
- 9:34Speaker 4: is a lifelong game talk and he graduated from there,
- 9:36Speaker 4: and you listen to that story. If you weren't already
- 9:39Speaker 4: on board with underwriting a huge portion of your ad
- 9:42Speaker 4: spend this year for Lenora sellers in South Carolina Athletics,
- 9:47Speaker 4: now you are so in just telling the truth and
- 9:50Speaker 4: being loyal to a program. He probably made himself even
- 9:53Speaker 4: more money and got himself closer to that four million
- 9:55Speaker 4: per year figure by doing that than he ever needed
- 9:59Speaker 4: to leaving.
- 10:02Speaker 5: That's a great Yeah, it is you do things the
- 10:05Speaker 5: right way, and hopefully it trickles down to other people
- 10:08Speaker 5: around the country when they see it. And man, I think,
- 10:11Speaker 5: you know, of course we're everyone's lsu fanc here, but
- 10:14Speaker 5: I mean, that's the kind of story where you've got
- 10:16Speaker 5: a hard time cheering against that kid at least.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that. I think that as you come
- 10:24Speaker 4: out of what we were calling the wild West era
- 10:28Speaker 4: of portal, you know, I think if people handle their
- 10:30Speaker 4: revenue sharing the right way, you're going to see a
- 10:33Speaker 4: lot of that roster turn slow down, which is a
- 10:35Speaker 4: good thing. But I think about now, let's say ten
- 10:39Speaker 4: fifteen years from now, we're kind of safely removed from
- 10:42Speaker 4: this era whatever we end up calling this era. And
- 10:44Speaker 4: I always think in terms of like a documentary in
- 10:47Speaker 4: the present moment. I think, at any given times, what
- 10:50Speaker 4: is the documentary fifteen years from now saying about this time?
- 10:54Speaker 4: And I cannot help but think about you know, when
- 10:58Speaker 4: thirty for thirty came out with the Broke documentary about
- 11:02Speaker 4: how many NFL guys squandered their earnings, and they had
- 11:04Speaker 4: those guys on camera, and those guys talked about how
- 11:07Speaker 4: foolish they were and how they wish they had to
- 11:09Speaker 4: do over. I think fifteen years from now, your transfer
- 11:13Speaker 4: portal or NIL documentary is going to be pretty heartbreaking
- 11:16Speaker 4: case by case scenario, of course, when you have guys
- 11:19Speaker 4: on camera who were taking advantage of and had a
- 11:23Speaker 4: lot of predatory individuals from the shadows get in their
- 11:26Speaker 4: ear and tell them all the wrong things, and they
- 11:28Speaker 4: ended up at three or four different schools, not because
- 11:31Speaker 4: they needed to, but just because they could and they
- 11:34Speaker 4: didn't know any better. And now here they are had
- 11:36Speaker 4: all the potential in the world and they've been done
- 11:39Speaker 4: playing football for thirteen years. By fifteen years from now.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Yeah, there's any question about that.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Catching up with Josh Bate here on OTB talking from
- 11:48Speaker 2: college football, I'll stay with quarterback in the SEC because
- 11:51Speaker 2: Josh for me one of the storylines that I'm going
- 11:54Speaker 2: to find highly intriguing once we get to media days
- 11:56Speaker 2: in Atlanta. When you look at the quarterbacks in the
- 11:59Speaker 2: SEC LSU, South Carolina, Florida, ou Vandy, like they've got
- 12:03Speaker 2: quarterbacks that they feel really good about, guys that have
- 12:06Speaker 2: done it before, guys that have thrived in college football.
- 12:09Speaker 2: But then you look at some of the normal powers
- 12:12Speaker 2: a UGA, A Tennessee, A Texas, an Ole Miss and Alabama,
- 12:16Speaker 2: and they're going to have first time starters. Now it's
- 12:18Speaker 2: not to say that they're going to be bad football players, obviously,
- 12:21Speaker 2: Texas Ole Miss feel really good about their quarterbacks. But
- 12:24Speaker 2: how much does that change your outlook on the SEC
- 12:27Speaker 2: knowing that the teams that typically have won the SEC
- 12:29Speaker 2: in recent years made it cause football playoff or hitting
- 12:32Speaker 2: reset at quarterback and some of those other teams feel
- 12:35Speaker 2: really good about quarterback.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Well.
- 12:37Speaker 4: The added part about that for context for people just
- 12:41Speaker 4: kind of driving around listening or sitting in the office listening,
- 12:44Speaker 4: is you would think, with that being the case, the
- 12:47Speaker 4: odds would look a little different this year, but they don't.
- 12:50Speaker 4: The odds still look pretty much the same, Like no
- 12:52Speaker 4: one has any clue what they're going to get from
- 12:54Speaker 4: gun or Stockton in Georgia. But yet they're right up
- 12:57Speaker 4: there along with Texas as the face to win the conference.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Alabama's right up there. No one knows what to expect
- 13:03Speaker 4: from ty Simpson. And then conversely, you look at DJ Lagway,
- 13:07Speaker 4: the guy came on really strong at the end of
- 13:09Speaker 4: the year. Flord is down the board a little bit,
- 13:11Speaker 4: partly due to schedule, but they're down the board a
- 13:13Speaker 4: little bit. So it's funny how there's such a benefit
- 13:17Speaker 4: of the doubt. There's so much equity built up from
- 13:20Speaker 4: some of these power programs you go beyond the SEC.
- 13:23Speaker 4: You can say the same about Ohio State right now.
- 13:25Speaker 4: You can say the same about Oregon right now. No
- 13:27Speaker 4: one knows what to expect from those qbs, but they're
- 13:30Speaker 4: up there anyway. They've earned that benefit of the doubt.
- 13:33Speaker 4: And I'm not saying they haven't. But what if, just
- 13:36Speaker 4: for a second here, what if you get B level
- 13:40Speaker 4: quarterback play and nothing better, nothing less from those new guys.
- 13:44Speaker 4: We did this little exercise on our show the other night.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Is I always expect B level quarterback play from a
- 13:50Speaker 4: new guy, and it's not because they're not capable of
- 13:53Speaker 4: AA plus level play. It's just that's the exception, that's
- 13:56Speaker 4: not the rule. So in order to not let myself
- 13:59Speaker 4: down and suffer heartbreaking December, what happens to the rest
- 14:03Speaker 4: of your team? If arch Manning plays at a B level?
- 14:06Speaker 4: What happens to the rest of my team? If the
- 14:08Speaker 4: two guys at Bama and Georgia respectively play at a
- 14:11Speaker 4: B level, Well, they're still capable if they win the
- 14:14Speaker 4: close games and you know, are plus in the turnover margins,
- 14:16Speaker 4: they're still capable of winning the league. But what it
- 14:19Speaker 4: does is it opens the door wide for like a
- 14:22Speaker 4: Texas A and M to make her run, or like
- 14:24Speaker 4: we just had a South Carolina to make her run,
- 14:26Speaker 4: and that normally wouldn't be the case. You'd normally be
- 14:28Speaker 4: looking at those caliber rosters saying they're probably another year
- 14:31Speaker 4: or two away, and then you could extrapolate that same
- 14:34Speaker 4: cinement nationally. What if none of these guys just elevate
- 14:38Speaker 4: themselves and it really is, you know, a sledgehammer fest
- 14:42Speaker 4: come playoff time, and you're looking at it saying this
- 14:45Speaker 4: is just an exception to the rule. In terms of
- 14:47Speaker 4: the landscape, it really does feel like we're in November
- 14:51Speaker 4: and there are twelve or fifteen teams that could win
- 14:53Speaker 4: this thing if they get hot in December.
- 14:55Speaker 5: It's a good question because the any championship team, any
- 14:59Speaker 5: good time team, your quarterback is going to have a
- 15:01Speaker 5: B game, right, You just can't have a B season
- 15:03Speaker 5: or you're not going to stand a chance. But every
- 15:05Speaker 5: quarter and so the team's got to overcome those B games.
- 15:08Speaker 5: That's why it's the greatest team sport. But Josh, I
- 15:10Speaker 5: want to talk the With the expanded playoffs, the opening
- 15:14Speaker 5: game has a little bit less impact than it used
- 15:17Speaker 5: to on the you know, your chances to make the playoffs,
- 15:21Speaker 5: make a run. We got two SEC teams going on
- 15:24Speaker 5: the road week on big matchups Texas at Ohio, State
- 15:27Speaker 5: of course, LSU at Clemson. What's your opinion of teams
- 15:31Speaker 5: like this kind of going out of the ordinary and
- 15:33Speaker 5: scheduling these big matchups on the opening game.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Well, I love it independent of anything else because I
- 15:41Speaker 4: just think that's what the sport should look like. And
- 15:44Speaker 4: I also love those those games you're mentioning. They're not
- 15:47Speaker 4: these you know, sanitized neutral site affairs. Either it's someone
- 15:51Speaker 4: going to someone else's building. That's what this sport is
- 15:54Speaker 4: supposed to be September through November with very few exceptions,
- 15:58Speaker 4: So I love that. Now, the obvious context of that
- 16:00Speaker 4: question is, yeah, but what if you lose while everyone
- 16:03Speaker 4: else is playing a pree puff and it ends up
- 16:05Speaker 4: being held against you. Well, that's why I think there's
- 16:10Speaker 4: been a lot of talk this past few months, especially
- 16:14Speaker 4: about all the playoffs stuff, But I don't want to
- 16:16Speaker 4: just overlook something else that's being reported, and that is
- 16:20Speaker 4: all the talk about recalibrating the selection process and recalibrating
- 16:25Speaker 4: the criteria and specifically recalibrating how they define strength to schedule.
- 16:30Speaker 4: And I think that is obviously been born out of
- 16:33Speaker 4: folks from the SEC and to an extent, the Big
- 16:36Speaker 4: Ten like yelling at the top of their lungs. Come
- 16:39Speaker 4: December and the selection process happens, and they're saying, wait,
- 16:42Speaker 4: why do you guys keep talking about records so much?
- 16:44Speaker 4: This is college football like in the NFL. Yeah, you
- 16:47Speaker 4: are what your record says you are. That's one of
- 16:49Speaker 4: the biggest lies you could tell about college football because
- 16:52Speaker 4: of the vast disparity in strength to schedule. So you
- 16:55Speaker 4: guys either need to fix this or we're not scheduling
- 16:57Speaker 4: these games anymore because trust does we can go schedule
- 17:00Speaker 4: for Creampuff, take the four and oh and be happy
- 17:03Speaker 4: to go into conference play. We want to challenge ourselves.
- 17:06Speaker 4: We want to make the money off the gate that
- 17:08Speaker 4: we get when we challenge ourselves. We want to offer
- 17:11Speaker 4: spectacle for the broadcast network that we're in media rights
- 17:14Speaker 4: fials with. But we're only going to do it if
- 17:16Speaker 4: you don't even have to reward us for it, but
- 17:18Speaker 4: don't punish us for it. So I still think we're
- 17:21Speaker 4: in an era where that's going to change, and I
- 17:23Speaker 4: think you'll continue to get those games. But just forget
- 17:25Speaker 4: a US playoff for a second. Just just college football.
- 17:29Speaker 4: I love it. I mean, that's what I'm supposed to
- 17:31Speaker 4: be looking forward to this time of year. It's not
- 17:34Speaker 4: you playing alcorn State all due respect, it's you going
- 17:36Speaker 4: on the road to Clemson. You it's Ohio State posting Texas.
- 17:41Speaker 4: It's the man, what are we going to look like?
- 17:44Speaker 4: I remember thinking this about Miami going to Florida last
- 17:47Speaker 4: year and then think about that result. It's just college
- 17:50Speaker 4: football is such a wild card sport, but especially Week
- 17:54Speaker 4: one of college football, it's a total roll of the dice.
- 17:57Speaker 4: But in like the most fun way possible.
- 18:00Speaker 3: All right, there is Josh Pay good enough to join us.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Man, I just got really fired up for I know
- 18:05Speaker 2: we talked about being on the horizon and it might
- 18:07Speaker 2: already be here.
- 18:08Speaker 5: I love your thoughts on the opening week two.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm the same way, like, let's go ahead, let's
- 18:11Speaker 2: play a giant, Let's play a power forward team. I
- 18:13Speaker 2: do not want to play directional school you either as
- 18:16Speaker 2: a player, Josh, Man, I really appreciate your time. Look
- 18:18Speaker 2: forward to our next conversation. Hopefully we can do this
- 18:21Speaker 2: again in the near future.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Yes, sir, I appreciate it.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Guys.
- 18:24Speaker 2: All right, there is Josh Paate, host of The Josh
- 18:26Speaker 2: Pay College Football Show Sunday Tuesday Thursday, eight pm Eastern Time,
- 18:32Speaker 2: so seven here locally.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You can catch that on YouTube. Does a fantastic job.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I love his insight. Man. A lot of different things
- 18:39Speaker 3: to transfer portal week one.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna talk about some of that Week one stuff
- 18:42Speaker 2: when we come back. And I know there's some people
- 18:45Speaker 2: here in this building that want to play directional school
- 18:48Speaker 2: you and I understand your point, but I'm just telling
- 18:51Speaker 2: you the all seasons different, and look, LSU has been
- 18:55Speaker 2: horrendous in season openers they have. It is looked clunky
- 18:59Speaker 2: as hell. Well, but I do think they're doing something
- 19:02Speaker 2: this year that is going to help out a little bit. Now,
- 19:07Speaker 2: once the ball's kicked off, it's all on you, but
- 19:10Speaker 2: I'm saying, building up to the game, there's something they're
- 19:13Speaker 2: doing over there that I think is going to help.
- 19:15Speaker 3: We'll tell you what that is when we come back
- 19:17Speaker 3: here on OTV.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Off the bench, all right, go to trash rangers dot com.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Trash rangers dot com is the website where you can
- 19:25Speaker 2: sign up for residential commercial trash service. Always reliable, always

- 19:44Speaker 2: on the couch. So trash rangers is going to help
- 19:47Speaker 2: you out by sending you that weekly text reminder. That's

- 19:52Speaker 2: trash Rangers. Go to the website again, trash rangers dot.

- 20:06Speaker 5: Just recently we cleaned out our attic. Man, I had
- 20:09Speaker 5: to get a roll off dump Sir made it easy.
- 20:11Speaker 5: The process was super simple, fast turnaround. Trash rangers dot
- 20:15Speaker 5: com two two five six one two two four seven seven.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Winefon news. I'm a love steal sun to get up.
- 20:40Speaker 1: From players to legends, Hester and Flynn breakdown LSU football
- 20:44Speaker 1: like only champions can they shut?
- 20:48Speaker 5: Come up?
- 20:50Speaker 6: I realized, quick flee wind. I knew, I shoot that
- 20:53Speaker 6: the who was made up of this rubble of man.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Screw sports. Listen to those I was trying to you
- 21:02Speaker 3: interrupted times a Landra.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Did you find a new artist on your road trip,
- 21:15Speaker 2: somebody you had not really heard of before that found
- 21:19Speaker 2: its way through the ears?
- 21:21Speaker 6: There's one, but I can't remember the name of it.
- 21:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 8: It was a good song, for sure, but it was
- 21:27Speaker 8: like a long name. It was like three different words
- 21:30Speaker 8: change your life, Like the artist's name was like a sentence.
- 21:34Speaker 6: So okay, fair enough, But it was mostly just stuff
- 21:37Speaker 6: that we all.
- 21:38Speaker 5: What kind of what genre was it?
- 21:40Speaker 6: It was like indie.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Coffee house preaching.
- 21:44Speaker 8: It wasn't coffeehouse, you know, like the twenty tens, like indie. Yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 8: maybe alternative a little yeah, but.
- 21:54Speaker 5: It was seattle.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Like were talking.
- 21:59Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 22:00Speaker 8: No, it was kind of like killers Ask, which isn't
- 22:03Speaker 8: really indeed, but it was like a combo.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Artist.
- 22:08Speaker 6: It was a male artist. Rivers will know.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Artic monkeys.
- 22:16Speaker 6: It's three words.
- 22:18Speaker 8: I'm trying to think of somebody to compare them to.
- 22:23Speaker 3: All Right, it's okay, we'll find out the answer. We'll
- 22:25Speaker 3: get there.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I want to talk opening games here. I want to
- 22:28Speaker 2: go around the room. I want to get everybody's there.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I want to get everybody's opinion on this opening game
- 22:34Speaker 2: against a big time Marque opponent. I love it as
- 22:39Speaker 2: a player. That's what I wanted. I wanted somebody to
- 22:42Speaker 2: look at and say, we got to be ready. We
- 22:44Speaker 2: don't have time to wait because we've got this team.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I think we we broke it down the other day.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I think, uh, three of our four years, three my
- 22:54Speaker 2: four you were here five. Three of my four years
- 22:56Speaker 2: we played a Power four opponent in the opening game,
- 22:59Speaker 2: and the one year we didn't, we played one in
- 23:01Speaker 2: game number two I believe, because then we go ulled
- 23:06Speaker 2: then Arizona I think in six maybe.
- 23:09Speaker 3: So I loved it.
- 23:11Speaker 2: It gave me an opportunity to like just see who
- 23:13Speaker 2: I was going to play, know that they were, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 2: doing some of the same things, they had, some of
- 23:18Speaker 2: the same athletes that we had, and it was always
- 23:21Speaker 2: something that I felt like helped me prepare for the
- 23:24Speaker 2: first game. Now we all know that LSU is zero
- 23:27Speaker 2: for five in their last five season openers. It has
- 23:30Speaker 2: been Mississippi State when you were playing a defense that
- 23:34Speaker 2: you never should against a Mike Leach offense.
- 23:37Speaker 3: You should never play that defense.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Right, They're going to hit another crosser as we're having
- 23:42Speaker 2: this conversation, and then the next season you go to
- 23:46Speaker 2: the Rose Bowl and they run counter right up. You
- 23:50Speaker 2: know what, right, Zach Charbonay just hit another counter. Florida
- 23:55Speaker 2: State back to back years. Right, we all know the
- 23:57Speaker 2: first game in New Orleans debacle. I mean, special teams,
- 24:02Speaker 2: multiple kicks block, just a hot mess, Okay, and then
- 24:05Speaker 2: you got the next year. Laforesa just beat you the
- 24:07Speaker 2: next year, right, I mean you had some momentum, you
- 24:09Speaker 2: had an opportunity. You don't put the ball in the
- 24:11Speaker 2: end zone, they just beat you. And then last year
- 24:14Speaker 2: right USC they made the plays you did not, Okay,
- 24:16Speaker 2: So it's been a lot of different ways. It's been
- 24:18Speaker 2: different coaches, it's been different players. This year, I think
- 24:24Speaker 2: it's a point of emphasis over at the OPS building
- 24:29Speaker 2: to make it a big deal and not hide from it,
- 24:32Speaker 2: where I don't know that that's been the case in
- 24:33Speaker 2: years past. I don't know how they handled it, but
- 24:35Speaker 2: I've noticed like there's a lot of one to zero
- 24:39Speaker 2: right all across the building.
- 24:41Speaker 3: There's a lot of Clemson.
- 24:42Speaker 2: There's a lot of like messages to what is in
- 24:46Speaker 2: front of you and not trying to shy away from it.
- 24:49Speaker 2: And that might sound so elementary, it might sound like,
- 24:51Speaker 2: oh my god, why does that because it's just the
- 24:54Speaker 2: constant reminder for players and coaches as you're getting ready,
- 24:59Speaker 2: you don't have time time to wait around and figure
- 25:02Speaker 2: it out.
- 25:02Speaker 3: You got to get it figured out.
- 25:04Speaker 5: Like an athlete psyche who the phone was going off,
- 25:08Speaker 5: Sorry people, but then on silent an athlete psyche is.
- 25:13Speaker 5: I'm not gonna say they were delicate, but it's very
- 25:15Speaker 5: malleable from what it coach. That's why a coach, especially
- 25:18Speaker 5: the college Elmos is so important. How they get your
- 25:20Speaker 5: mind right, how they prepare you. And I remember like
- 25:22Speaker 5: when we used to open up and this is no
- 25:24Speaker 5: shot at anybody, but like when we used to open
- 25:26Speaker 5: up with Ull or whoever, it was those types of
- 25:29Speaker 5: games in the off season, when you're hot and sweaty
- 25:32Speaker 5: running one tens and you're leaning on the person next
- 25:35Speaker 5: to you, you're fighting, you're sweating, you're bleeding with your
- 25:39Speaker 5: brothers all off season. Having something to focus on is
- 25:44Speaker 5: so important. Hey, I remember when we'd have those games
- 25:48Speaker 5: that weren't big, it was you know, what do you
- 25:51Speaker 5: think Florida's doing right now? You would talk about other
- 25:53Speaker 5: teams that were looking.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Past that, and this is not Look, we're not like
- 25:57Speaker 2: sitting trying to draw bombs and have shape. We never
- 26:00Speaker 2: were like what do you think ULL's doing right now?
- 26:03Speaker 3: Just that didn't happen, but it did.
- 26:06Speaker 2: What do you think Mississippi State's doing right now? What
- 26:09Speaker 2: do you think Oregon State's doing right now? Like in
- 26:11Speaker 2: some of our openers, Yep, you never heard it when
- 26:13Speaker 2: it was you know, a group of five school.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Yeah, And Josh brought up such a good point, and
- 26:16Speaker 5: there's so many like butterfly effects to decisions made on
- 26:20Speaker 5: expanding the playoffs, changing the rules of the playoffs, all
- 26:23Speaker 5: that stuff, because I do not want to lose the
- 26:28Speaker 5: opening day big game. And that is exactly what's gonna
- 26:32Speaker 5: happen if they make it strictly record wins and losses.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Blah blah blah. You can truly with a twelve person
- 26:37Speaker 5: playoff ruin your season by scheduling these big games. Then
- 26:42Speaker 5: you're gonna see people just shy away from them. I
- 26:45Speaker 5: don't think that's gonna happen. I want to keep seeing
- 26:47Speaker 5: them as an athlete, as a player, As a former player,
- 26:50Speaker 5: I did not want to play the smaller schools. I
- 26:53Speaker 5: hated those games. I hated them. People can be like, oh,
- 26:56Speaker 5: it's so stat patter looks good, blah blah blah. Get
- 26:58Speaker 5: the guaranteed win, so what. I hate it not playing
- 27:04Speaker 5: the top competition just the same. It was hard to
- 27:07Speaker 5: get up for it.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Ye try to explain that from your perspective as a quarterback,
- 27:13Speaker 2: because I try to say it like if we were
- 27:15Speaker 2: playing Fresno State, Like in my mind, I was doing
- 27:17Speaker 2: the same exact routine, I was watching the same amount
- 27:20Speaker 2: of tape, I was doing all the same things, but
- 27:21Speaker 2: in reality, I was not, because if we were playing
- 27:24Speaker 2: Auburn or Florida or Alabama or whoever it was, let
- 27:27Speaker 2: me watch this third down package, Hey, let me watch
- 27:29Speaker 2: his blitz pick up.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Hey, let me watch his short yardage goal line situation.
- 27:33Speaker 2: And you just organically found yourself doing more, staying later,
- 27:36Speaker 2: having more conversations, and you weren't trying to.
- 27:39Speaker 3: It's just that's the way it happened.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Yeah, there's something to be said for just like the
- 27:46Speaker 5: you did the practice schedules the same. The coaches do
- 27:48Speaker 5: a great job of trying to keep the schedule like
- 27:51Speaker 5: the exact same, and you never you never try to
- 27:53Speaker 5: think that Alabama game is bigger than Fresno State or
- 27:59Speaker 5: Louisiana Tech. But it is, and you feel there's a
- 28:02Speaker 5: there's an unsaid knowledge there that no one has.
- 28:05Speaker 2: The time I got fired up, I got fired up
- 28:08Speaker 2: good dogs to play louis Antech because look, my my
- 28:11Speaker 2: wife's dad, uncle, my mom, her mom, she had a
- 28:15Speaker 2: cousin on the team. My best friend in the world
- 28:18Speaker 2: was on the team. So I was a little fired
- 28:19Speaker 2: up for that one. But that was because of circumstance,
- 28:22Speaker 2: not because of who it was.
- 28:23Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, Daniel and the chatter are saying like some
- 28:27Speaker 5: sort of combination of BCS algorithm and committee like the
- 28:30Speaker 5: BCS system. To me, probably with a twelve man team.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Like a twelve man I say, the only problem with
- 28:36Speaker 3: the VCS was it was.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Just two teams, right even with even when they expanded
- 28:41Speaker 5: a four, probably pretty darn good.
- 28:43Speaker 2: That's why I don't understand why in college baseball we
- 28:45Speaker 2: always talk about RPI and Jay Johnson comes on this
- 28:48Speaker 2: show all the time.
- 28:49Speaker 3: RPI our prawer, here's why we did this.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Uh, when we have Matt McMahon or Kim Molky on,
- 28:53Speaker 2: it's like we talk about the net and we talked
- 28:55Speaker 2: about the kN palm. We talk about all these systems
- 28:57Speaker 2: that we have, and we don't have that in football anymore.
- 29:01Speaker 2: But if we add it back to the old BCS
- 29:03Speaker 2: system and we had at least a ranking, and I'm
- 29:05Speaker 2: not even saying that you don't have a committee, now,
- 29:07Speaker 2: I would trust the old BCS system, But if you
- 29:10Speaker 2: want to throw a human element back into it, at
- 29:12Speaker 2: least if we had a BCS system or rank them
- 29:15Speaker 2: whenever we go to sixteen one through sixteen, and then
- 29:18Speaker 2: if that committee put nineteen in over sixteen.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Then that would really you know, raise some hell.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But you would have this metric that the coaches like
- 29:26Speaker 2: they could use and they when it comes to scheduling,
- 29:30Speaker 2: like there's a strength of schedule component that goes into
- 29:32Speaker 2: the algorithm.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Then you would have more teams scheduling like LSU does.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Yeah, make it, make it black and white at least
- 29:41Speaker 5: on how the power rankings are there. And then of
- 29:44Speaker 5: course there's a little bit you know, there's going to
- 29:46Speaker 5: always going to be a human element to everything, because
- 29:48Speaker 5: I'm sure it would take in consideration to like coaches,
- 29:52Speaker 5: bulls and a peoples and all that stuff, like those
- 29:54Speaker 5: things would be those things would be in there. But
- 29:56Speaker 5: I think just some sort of clear struck sure. But please,
- 30:01Speaker 5: for the love of God, don't take don't make it
- 30:04Speaker 5: completely one hundred percent about record, because as a college
- 30:08Speaker 5: football fan, as a fan of good football and just
- 30:11Speaker 5: being excited for the for the preseason and the lead
- 30:14Speaker 5: up on everything, Man, don't don't they will take away
- 30:18Speaker 5: those big games if you make it about that. If
- 30:20Speaker 5: you make one loss ruin an entire year, you always say, yeah, well,
- 30:24Speaker 5: twelve teams, like you still control your own destiny, which
- 30:27Speaker 5: is great. There was.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I mean, was it the year that Michigan won the
- 30:30Speaker 2: Natty A couple of years ago, they didn't play a
- 30:32Speaker 2: Power for team in the non con Yeah, I'm pretty
- 30:35Speaker 2: sure right, they play.
- 30:35Speaker 7: Yeah, because that was the that was the Jim Harball suspension.
- 30:39Speaker 7: Not remember they basically let hit Michigan pick which games
- 30:42Speaker 7: he was suspended, and it was like bowling Green and
- 30:45Speaker 7: Acron and teams like that. Yeah, because they didn't have
- 30:48Speaker 7: any Power five non conference and they won the Natty.
- 30:54Speaker 7: That's why, in my opinion, strength of schedule doesn't matter
- 30:57Speaker 7: in the current format that we have.
- 30:59Speaker 3: It doesn't. No, it doesn't.
- 31:00Speaker 7: You go ten and two, you're one of the top
- 31:02Speaker 7: three teams in your conference, You're making the playoffs.
- 31:04Speaker 5: That's it.
- 31:05Speaker 8: Uh.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Power for championship games, should you be penalized?
- 31:12Speaker 3: We've had some.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I mean Georgia two years ago, Alabama in the SEC
- 31:17Speaker 2: championship game, they don't get in, then they beat the
- 31:20Speaker 2: hell out of Florida State in the Orange Bold to
- 31:22Speaker 2: prove a point.
- 31:23Speaker 7: And then this year flip it SMU was not penalized.
- 31:27Speaker 7: They lost that conference game to Clemson. They both get in,
- 31:30Speaker 7: so we've seen it both ways.
- 31:32Speaker 5: They wanted what they just wanted sun shmiw SCHMIW. Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 5: I don't think if you if you make the conference
- 31:40Speaker 5: championship in a power in the top ones, top conferences,
- 31:45Speaker 5: you should not be penalized for that. You shouldn't be
- 31:48Speaker 5: kicked out of the playoffs.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Uh, all right, when we come back, We've got Brett
- 31:53Speaker 2: inside the bay U four chat and wants to know
- 31:55Speaker 2: about your feelings during two thousand and seven whenever we
- 31:59Speaker 2: started to find out, Oh no, they're going to mess
- 32:02Speaker 2: up and let us back in this thing.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I think I've told that story plenty times before. We'll
- 32:06Speaker 2: get Flynn's side.
- 32:08Speaker 5: I also want to bring up, just to quick some
- 32:10Speaker 5: snippets on maybe one of the most impactful athletes of
- 32:15Speaker 5: all time that is doing some things right now that
- 32:18Speaker 5: is crazy.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Okay, we'll have all that for you when we come
- 32:21Speaker 3: back here on.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 32:25Speaker 2: All right, speaking of champions speaking of playoff rankings, teams
- 32:29Speaker 2: they get to the finish line, how about the team
- 32:31Speaker 2: over at Tommy's Windows, doors and siding.

- 32:43Speaker 2: that is in The Advocate twenty twenty five.
- 32:46Speaker 3: The first time to them, not the first time they've
- 32:48Speaker 3: won an award. They have a lot of banners. Oh
- 32:52Speaker 3: they basically they look like the New York Games Intimidator.
- 32:58Speaker 5: So website look at that. Unbelievable as well.
- 33:01Speaker 2: And you know what, just like the Intimidator, they got
- 33:03Speaker 2: to add. They got to add to the website because
- 33:05Speaker 2: they don't even have their twenty twenty five up yet.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Always winning awards. Go Tommy's that god.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Yeah, go to their website, see the gallery, see the testimonials.

- 33:35Speaker 1: the Core. This is off the Bench with Hester and Flynn,
- 33:39Speaker 1: Matt and Rouge's go to for all things Louisiana sports.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Not you, man, I feel you inside the Bay four chat,
- 33:47Speaker 2: he says, Damn Jake. You know the Braves won fourteen
- 33:50Speaker 2: straight NLS championships and you go with the Yankees It's
- 33:55Speaker 2: a good point.
- 33:56Speaker 3: We didn't finish.
- 33:57Speaker 2: You know, thirteen of those got one in nine before
- 34:01Speaker 2: the Braves won the last one a couple of years ago.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And I'm still hurt by Jim Larrets. Man couldn't do
- 34:08Speaker 2: that again if he tried. Man couldn't do that again
- 34:10Speaker 2: hit that home run if he had one hundred more attempts.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I'm one of those people that hope nothing but bad
- 34:15Speaker 2: things sometimes for Jim Larrets. I'm gonna be honest with you,
- 34:18Speaker 2: same thing I say about Mitch Williams and Lenny Dyksha
- 34:21Speaker 2: and rest in peace, Darren Dalton and that whole Phillies
- 34:24Speaker 2: crew as well.
- 34:25Speaker 3: So good point. Good point.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Not you man, you were blabbering about something. Yeah, I
- 34:31Speaker 2: don't think something about athletes.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I really wanted to talk about like we doesn't
- 34:37Speaker 5: probably get the headlines down here on many of the shows,
- 34:40Speaker 5: or definitely this show, but we really need to start
- 34:43Speaker 5: paying attention to one of the more more impactful I'm
- 34:46Speaker 5: not gonna say the greatest, but probably one of the greatest,
- 34:50Speaker 5: have one of the greatest impacts in their sport in
- 34:54Speaker 5: the history of sports for what they're doing. That's the
- 34:58Speaker 5: one Caitlin Clark. We're gonna bring up w n B
- 35:01Speaker 5: A talk about just for a minute right here, all right,
- 35:04Speaker 5: I does not know that that's where you were going.
- 35:06Speaker 5: You didn't, all right. I was scrolling, all right, So
- 35:11Speaker 5: I was scrolling. I was scrolling. I brought up golf, and.
- 35:14Speaker 3: We're going to break up like tennis or cycling.
- 35:16Speaker 5: We're going to bring up cycling in a couple of weeks.
- 35:20Speaker 5: N B A no, no, w n B A. All right,
- 35:23Speaker 5: So I want you I'm going to tell you some stats,
- 35:26Speaker 5: and I want you to think of an athlete that
- 35:28Speaker 5: has a has had a bigger, bigger positive bigger, a bigger.
- 35:33Speaker 5: If you're going to crack out everything, I'm rested for now,
- 35:35Speaker 5: it's gonna be like a nine hour show. It's uh,
- 35:38Speaker 5: there's nobody that's had a bigger impact or.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Sorry, oh good good, I'm good. I'm sorry. I apologize.
- 35:52Speaker 5: Are y'all laughing at the w n B A no, A.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Little bit of a bigger.
- 35:56Speaker 2: It's a little bit of both for me, because I mean, look,
- 35:59Speaker 2: I mess up boards all time.
- 36:00Speaker 5: Sure well, it's kind of like a combination of like
- 36:02Speaker 5: big deal and bigger. So I just got like kind
- 36:04Speaker 5: of Yeah, I'm a little list exic. It's fine. Sorry, sorry,
- 36:09Speaker 5: I want you to think of an athletes have a
- 36:11Speaker 5: bigger impact on their game. So, before she got to
- 36:15Speaker 5: the WNBA, and we're talking about like the ESPN National
- 36:18Speaker 5: Game for the WNBA was averaging like three hundred and
- 36:21Speaker 5: ninety four thousand viewers. Her rookie year, they averaged one
- 36:27Speaker 5: point one to nine million on it, which is like
- 36:29Speaker 5: a two hundred and two percent drop. Twenty two of
- 36:32Speaker 5: her games exceeded a million people in viewership. Of that
- 36:37Speaker 5: she was televised her debut is like two point one
- 36:40Speaker 5: three million. In comparison, their games were one point one
- 36:45Speaker 5: eight million average viewers. Every other team was three hundred
- 36:47Speaker 5: and ninety four thousand viewers. And then again in twenty
- 36:50Speaker 5: twenty five, like they aired one of her games on ABC,
- 36:54Speaker 5: two point two million was the average viewership of that game,
- 36:57Speaker 5: It like spiked to like two point eight million. And
- 37:03Speaker 5: then when she was hurt, the average for this season
- 37:05Speaker 5: has been one point eight million viewership. Now it's like
- 37:08Speaker 5: a fifty something percent jump from last year, but when
- 37:12Speaker 5: she got hurt and she wasn't playing, it dropped over
- 37:16Speaker 5: fifty percent to like eight hundred thousand viewers. So you
- 37:19Speaker 5: go from one person playing getting amazing ratings, which they
- 37:22Speaker 5: had never done. They averaged two years before over three
- 37:25Speaker 5: hundred thousand viewers. Now they're averaging one point eight and
- 37:28Speaker 5: then when she gets hurt, it drops back down over
- 37:31Speaker 5: fifty five percent. Now, tell me if there is an
- 37:35Speaker 5: athlete has that has ever had an impact on their
- 37:39Speaker 5: particular sport, like Caitlin Clark has an appreciate and she's
- 37:42Speaker 5: not even leading the league in a lot of things,
- 37:45Speaker 5: Like you see the threes, she's not even top three
- 37:48Speaker 5: and threes, like average threes made per game, like she's
- 37:51Speaker 5: leading the league or tied for like assists or something.
- 37:53Speaker 5: She's playing great, and she's like leading and like all
- 37:55Speaker 5: Star picks and all that stuff. Not saying that, but
- 37:57Speaker 5: like having that sort of impact and not even like
- 38:00Speaker 5: and she's famous for three's not even leading the league
- 38:02Speaker 5: in average threes per game.
- 38:05Speaker 3: I would.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Burden Magic the NBA was struggling a little bit. That's
- 38:11Speaker 2: a combo. It's not one singular person. It's the only
- 38:13Speaker 2: one I can kind of. When burd and Magic had
- 38:16Speaker 2: their rivalry and they were going back and forth, Lakers Celtics,
- 38:19Speaker 2: the NBA needed them badly.
- 38:22Speaker 3: They had to have them. And that's really I don't
- 38:25Speaker 3: know if y'all have another one.
- 38:26Speaker 2: That's the only one, maybe Sosa Maguire in their home
- 38:30Speaker 2: run race that they had, right they were going back
- 38:33Speaker 2: and forth to try to beat Roger Merris's single season record.
- 38:36Speaker 2: That kind of saved baseball after the baseball strike in
- 38:39Speaker 2: the early nineties. But that was because of circumstance, right,
- 38:43Speaker 2: it was because you had to strike. Baseball was a
- 38:45Speaker 2: little boring at the time, and here come these two
- 38:47Speaker 2: guys who may or may not have been on pds,
- 38:50Speaker 2: who cares, are hitting the ball far and it was fun.
- 38:53Speaker 2: But like to your point, all those have been tandem.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Hasn't been singular.
- 38:59Speaker 6: There's one little the only thing I can think of.
- 39:01Speaker 8: And maybe this is just me because I'm not like
- 39:04Speaker 8: a big golf follower, but one that I like. I
- 39:08Speaker 8: don't know what it was like before him, but Tiger
- 39:10Speaker 8: Woods kind of put golf, and I don't know, it's a.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Good one, so Tiger would be Tiger still has it, Yeah,
- 39:19Speaker 3: long time.
- 39:20Speaker 7: He's kind of doing it now golf like since standpoint,
- 39:25Speaker 7: Scotty's kind of but he's bringing a lot of eyeballs too,
- 39:28Speaker 7: because you always want to see that one dominant guy
- 39:30Speaker 7: like to her point, like I mean, after Tiger got old,
- 39:33Speaker 7: like Scott, he's kind of the next guy that's bringing
- 39:35Speaker 7: everybody in.
- 39:36Speaker 8: I just didn't really know anything about golf until Tiger
- 39:39Speaker 8: Woods was a thing. Like I was kind of young
- 39:42Speaker 8: whenever that whole scandal happened. But like I that's the
- 39:47Speaker 8: only thing that I ever really knew.
- 39:49Speaker 2: About it was the only thing I knew was Hal
- 39:51Speaker 2: Sutton and David Toms for from report, and I watched
- 39:53Speaker 2: them when they played.
- 39:54Speaker 5: I mean, it was a middle aged white dude sport
- 39:57Speaker 5: from whoever played it or watched it.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Really.
- 39:59Speaker 5: I remember I would have it on when I was
- 40:01Speaker 5: grown up and it was so boring. But then when
- 40:03Speaker 5: Tiger came on, I was like, all right, I can
- 40:05Speaker 5: watch this for sure, and he made such like his
- 40:07Speaker 5: impact probably great greater than the Caitlin impact. This is
- 40:12Speaker 5: a very short term situation, but that is like when
- 40:16Speaker 5: you have the top like fifty golfers playing right now
- 40:19Speaker 5: that all like gush over tiger Woods, like Scotti Scheffler.
- 40:24Speaker 5: You're seeing Warrabbit's got tiger Wood shoes on, Like that's
- 40:26Speaker 5: like that's the impact he had.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Yeah, I like for golf, now you kind of know
- 40:32Speaker 8: more of the people, like I know Jordan's Spee, Scottie
- 40:36Speaker 8: and Brooks, Kapika or I don't even know if it's Kapika.
- 40:39Speaker 6: I don't even that's what I'm saying, like I've only
- 40:41Speaker 6: ever seen it, but.
- 40:44Speaker 8: Yeah, or maybe even like tennis when Pete Sampras and
- 40:48Speaker 8: Agustine maybe I was Andre.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you were one of the other uh MESSI
- 40:52Speaker 5: had a big impact on the MLS, right, Yeah, I've
- 40:54Speaker 5: been like yeah, but.
- 40:55Speaker 2: To your point, like nobody to what you're talking about
- 40:58Speaker 2: with Kaitlyn Clark, nobody when he comes with.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Yeah, you all kind of like poke fun of me
- 41:04Speaker 5: for like bringing it up, but like it's a real.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Now, that's a real had nothing to do with it
- 41:10Speaker 3: was the word you made it.
- 41:11Speaker 5: Well. I mispronound sports all the time, I know, but.
- 41:13Speaker 2: It's funny because then you kept saying it right, but
- 41:15Speaker 2: it still sounded like it was wrong.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Just what made it fun exactly?
- 41:20Speaker 2: I will I've told this story with Taylor and Laundry
- 41:23Speaker 2: in the room, but I'll tell it with you.
- 41:25Speaker 3: So my father in law, who played in the NFL.
- 41:27Speaker 2: His brother played a decade plus in the NFL, my
- 41:30Speaker 2: brother in law who played college football. They've both been
- 41:32Speaker 2: a tunne of LSU games, so they've seen crazy atmospheres.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Right.
- 41:36Speaker 2: They went to the Masters one year and they followed
- 41:39Speaker 2: Tiger and they said, it's not even close. The best feeling,
- 41:44Speaker 2: the most electricity they've ever felt in a sporting event.
- 41:47Speaker 2: And again they've been everywhere they've seen everything. Was the
- 41:50Speaker 2: crowd following Tiger Woods to Augusta. They said it was
- 41:53Speaker 2: you couldn't even compare it to anything.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Yes, oh my god, all Tiger fans, that was such
- 42:01Speaker 5: a you for to day watching them do that. I
- 42:03Speaker 5: can only imagine what it was like walking through that seat.
- 42:07Speaker 2: I said, it was incredible. They said it didn't matter
- 42:09Speaker 2: where they've been, what they had seen, nothing compared to that.
- 42:12Speaker 2: So to your point, all right, the show is only
- 42:16Speaker 2: going to get biggerer as we continue to deal. We'll
- 42:23Speaker 2: wrap it up when we come back here, OTB, I mean,
- 42:27Speaker 2: trust me, just give me enough time and I'll say
- 42:29Speaker 2: a word that does not exist, all right, Something that
- 42:32Speaker 2: does exists is doci words see exactly letters why you
- 42:37Speaker 2: should go for dose And no matter what you're doing
- 42:41Speaker 2: Tiger fans, if you're sitting there and you're tailgating for
- 42:44Speaker 2: a baseball run, if you're watching the last out in Omaha,
- 42:47Speaker 2: if you're getting ready, you know, to watch a game
- 42:49Speaker 2: in Clemson, South Carolina. You're in the parking lot, tailgating,
- 42:52Speaker 2: whatever it is. Do Sekis always brings the flavor, the
- 42:56Speaker 2: vibes and the victory energy. So you should go for
- 42:59Speaker 2: dose and joy a dose sequis, which is the gold
- 43:02Speaker 2: standards a beer.
- 43:03Speaker 5: All right, let's hump day today. We got a national
- 43:06Speaker 5: championship celebration. We got a new intimidator company. Go to
- 43:10Speaker 5: your local wherever you like to buy groceries, beer, whatever

- 43:20Speaker 5: Get ready to roll. Cheer on the tigers tonight. Celebrate
- 43:23Speaker 5: them with doseaquies. Go for dose.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Tigers, turn talkers. This is off the bench. I'm going
- 43:36Speaker 1: back to five or five.
- 43:39Speaker 3: If it's a seven hour flys or forty five minute drive.
- 43:46Speaker 1: In my imgination, new ways and line on your side
- 43:53Speaker 1: with your runs between your thighs.

- 44:02Speaker 3: Master stop be dropped little bit wacky, waited for that song.
- 44:08Speaker 5: That's the song you wanted to wait for.
- 44:10Speaker 3: You've never heard five of five by Monkeys.
- 44:13Speaker 5: I mean, but like, there's a lot of great songs
- 44:15Speaker 5: up there. Yeah, and this is one of This was

- 45:08Speaker 3: It feels like you're gonna be paying.
- 45:10Speaker 5: For it even really know what you're talking about right now?
- 45:15Speaker 3: You know, like a kangaroo court is in the NFL,
- 45:17Speaker 3: Like I didn't.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Have that a fine system. Yeah, kangaroo court.
- 45:21Speaker 3: That's what we did.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Like everybody came up in the room, came up with
- 45:24Speaker 2: the fines. It was like a handclap was because they
- 45:26Speaker 2: hopped up. There was a kangaro Never heard that before. No,
- 45:30Speaker 2: I've heard what you like, you talked about it, but
- 45:32Speaker 2: I just kind of went with it.
- 45:35Speaker 6: Y'all. That video real quick, we have like fifteen seconds.
- 45:37Speaker 6: That video of Joe Burrow throwing a baseball gave me
