- 2:39an update on the gas crisis on the West Side. We'll get to that.
- 2:43Plus, I haven't spent a whole lot of time talking about the Senator
- 2:46Mansion situation, just a little bit here and there. Had Greg Thomas on
- 2:49the show last week, So I got some things I want to talk about
- 2:52as it relates to Senator Joe Mansion not seeking re election and instead choosing to
- 3:00travel the country searching for the middle I want to talk about that coming up
- 3:02a little bit later on. Plus is always your calls are in the text.
- 3:06Are welcome. It's Monday, which means mayor Monday. You have a
- 3:08visit from a local mayor. This week it is Frank Mullins, mayor of
- 3:12South Charleston. He is standing by mayor. Good morning, how are you?
- 3:15Good morning, Dave? Doing fine? Thank you? H First of
- 3:17all, happy, happy early Thanksgiving. Uh. What does Thanksgiving look like
- 3:23for the Mullins family? Which you got planned? How much food you're gonna
- 3:25eat? That's what I should say. Just a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. You
- 3:29know, my wife will cooked dinner this year, and my kids will all
- 3:30come up and we'll have a great day and we have dinner about two o'clock
- 3:35and then we sit around watching a little football Injoy Company. They wanted to
- 3:37watch the Cowboys meet up on Washington. Uh. So, Uh, we
- 3:43got a lot of things I want to cover with you, but the overall,
- 3:46what's new in South Charleston. You got a lot of things new in
- 3:47South Charleston. Talk about it. Yeah, a lot of things going on.
- 3:51As we've talked about before. Everything's going well at the park place.
- 3:53You know, you've got Starbucks getting going up now as we speak, and
- 3:57then hopefully this spring an argers start. We got their sight almost ready to
- 4:00go, so they should start sometime this spring. The settlement and compactions going
- 4:04on with the rest of the property, you should see that construction starting around
- 4:08July of next summer. And once that starts, that'll be like a whole
- 4:12bunch of things going up all at one time, so it'll get real exciting.
- 4:14The access road Jefferson Roads open up, very convenient to get out the
- 4:17Lows and Target now, that's for sure. Yeah, I don't think I've
- 4:19had you on since that access road open up. Talk about that a little
- 4:24bit. I mean about the convenience of it. It's always kind of a
- 4:27you know, growing pains for lack of a better term, till everybody kind
- 4:30of gets used to it. But I was to there about a week and
- 4:32a half or ago, I guess it was Mayor, and seemed like things
- 4:34were running prety smoothly. Yeah, it is. And if you're coming from
- 4:38particularly if you're coming from the west side of the county, South Charleston and
- 4:41saying almost night so that are coming this way, it's so much easier now
- 4:44to get to get to those shops there on that side and then coming out.
- 4:46I look for this Christmas season because really, the big jam is in
- 4:51the parking lot, to be honest. Yeah, obviously the heavy traffic on
- 4:54Jefferson Road uh da dh. But again, now they're in a halfway decent
- 4:57time. It's the parking lot to keep everybody logged down from. So now
- 5:00that we have another access in and out, I think that's going to be
- 5:02a tremendous help. Yeah, I think so too. What's just about this
- 5:05Kroger come in over there? Well, as a told gentleman, he kind
- 5:10of jumped the gun on that one a little bit. Now there's no secret
- 5:13that we're talking to them, okay, And one of the reasons we're excited
- 5:15about that is because it will be a Kroger marketplace, will be the first
- 5:17marketplace in the state of West Virginia, so that makes it very attractive.
- 5:21I think it looks really good. I'm not ready to tell you all for
- 5:25short coming because we do not have a sign least with them. Yeah,
- 5:28but thoks are going very well, and hopefully we'll make an announcement very such.
- 5:31That's fair enough. That's fair enough in these Kroger Marketplace is a little
- 5:34bit different because they're not just grocery. They offer a number of things.
- 5:38So if if it happens, Mayor, which I think it's probably going to,
- 5:42but if it happens, it's definitely going to be a great addition for
- 5:45the folks there in South Charlest and the sourrounded areas. Mary. If you
- 5:47live in South Charles or even if you don't, I would urge you to
- 5:49follow the city. It's South Charlest's Facebook page. There's always a lot of
- 5:54cool stuff going on. And whoever does your social media does a fantastic job
- 5:58with it. Not going to give at to Randy Daniel for anything, but
- 6:01I say, say his name, but probably somebody smarter than Randy does it.
- 6:05I ran it's a good friend of mine. But one of the things
- 6:08I noticed as I was preparing for the show, Mayor, and I was
- 6:10looking over the social media, the Facebook page was not there for the city
- 6:14is you got a whole lot of things going on ice this year, A
- 6:17whole lot of ice things going on in South Charleston. Ice the ice bumper
- 6:23cars, Mayor. Yeah, Yeah, the bumper cars have been a big
- 6:27success. They've actually been out there now for what two or three years.
- 6:30Yeah, they've been a big they've been a big they've been a big hit.
- 6:32Uh, just something else to do on ice, and kids like it,
- 6:34even if you moms and dad has come out with their little ones.
- 6:38And it's kind of like bumper cars, as we know, it's the old
- 6:40carrivals, you know, bumper cars, but bumper cars on ice. It's
- 6:42a lot of fun. I was looking at some of the pictures and whatnot
- 6:46from last night, as I said, when I was preparing for the segment
- 6:47this morning, it looks like people were having a whole lot of fun there.
- 6:50And it's and and people come from all around for these ice skating facilities
- 6:55that you have in South Charleston. Yeah, and it does a lot of
- 6:57other things. And we do a lot of other things out there, like
- 6:59we had Aunt Retreat, We have a movie. We have a movie out
- 7:01there that we put on a couple of times a year. So that iceery
- 7:04is used for so it's kind of it's kind of a multitasker, you know.
- 7:09It's a good attraction for us. It is. Indeed, again we're
- 7:11talking with Frank Marlin's mayor of South Charleston here on Mayor of Monday. This
- 7:15Saturday, Mayor is Small Business Saturday across America, and you're going to hear
- 7:17be hearing me talk a lot about over the next couple of days because it's
- 7:20something that I truly believe in. Small business is the backbone of America.
- 7:28And South Charleston Mayor has got some fine places to shop for smaller and get
- 7:32get to get on our phones and tablets and order things from Amazon or whatever.
- 7:35Let's support a local business. We do that as a municipality. If
- 7:39we can buy to South Charleston, we do. And so I hope folks
- 7:42will get out there and support whether it be South Charleston, Light thro Charleston,
- 7:45whatever it may be. Let's get out there and support those businesses.
- 7:46They are our backbone. You're exactly right. I could not agree with you
- 7:49more. Yeah. I was listening to the That's the Experts segment with Coop
- 7:55a little bit earlier John Bernet, and they were talking about I think it's
- 7:57something like sixty five percent of all Americans will do a great amount of their
- 8:01holiday shopping online. And you know, this season and we get the convenience
- 8:05of it, but you know, Amazon does not donate to your church.
- 8:11Amazon does not donate to your school band. Let's just keep that in mind.
- 8:16Yeah, let's keep that in mind. That's exactly right, and that's
- 8:18good. That's another good point you made, Dave, because these small businesses
- 8:20in our community as they are, they support our schools, our churches,
- 8:24or other nonprofits in our city. To give back to our community, that's
- 8:26where we go get our donations from. Those are the people to help us
- 8:30out. So we got to help them out and give back. Yeah,
- 8:31I agree with that. Finally, we'll wrap it up with this. Your
- 8:33Christmas Parade is coming up December second noon on D Street. Full details on
- 8:39that at your website to visit south Charleston dot com. But it's always a
- 8:43great Christmas parade, Mayor, always a great parade. And Friday before that
- 8:46on the first with you our tree lighting ceremony at the mound as well.
- 8:50So that's just five point fifteen. I believe parade starts and new so Friday
- 8:54and Saturday, both days, come on down, have a good time with
- 8:56us, all right, Mayor is always it's a pleasure to have you to
- 9:00show you and your family have a very very happy Thanksgiving and we'll be talking
- 9:03to you probably before Christmas. Thanks a lot you do all the same day,
- 9:05Thanks for having me all right again there Frank Mullins again, the mayor
- 9:09of the City of South Charleston. Again. The Christmas parade is coming up
- 9:11December second, with the tree lighting the day before that there at the Mouth
- 9:15at South Charleston. Full of tales available at their website. Visit south Charleston
- 9:18dot com again. Visit south Charleston dot com. And I truly mean that
- 9:22when I said this was not me just kind of you know, talking nice
- 9:26with the mayor there. If you can support these local businesses South Charleston,
- 9:30you know wherever it is, because these are the folks that donate to your
- 9:35causes, So keep that in mind. You don't get a whole lot of
- 9:37that from Amazon. And those places are Carvon. As I hear my good
- 9:41friend Larry Dawston talking about all the time. These are some backbone of America
- 9:45folks, these small businesses, So get out there and support it, not
- 9:48just during Christmas, year round and again Small Business Saturday is this Saturday every
- 9:52community around here in the Canal Valley and surrounding areas across America really will be
- 9:56doing things, especially for that. I know where I live, Huddion County.
- 10:00They are I've got Ashley Offered Glance from the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce
- 10:03coming on the show on Wednesday of this week to talk about that. So
- 10:07support these small businesses. Tech says, the cowboys will be beating up the
- 10:11commanders this Thanksgiving. Yes, yes we will. That'll make it for a
- 10:15very very happy, happy Thanksgiving for me. The Dave Allan Show on five

- 13:56or at least they will be momentarily. They are on their way in
- 14:01right now, as I undersod. Matter of fact, here they are ladies
- 14:05and gentlemen, children of all ages. I present to you. Just just
- 14:09calm down a little bit. Calm down. Everybody breathed. It's all good.
- 14:13Run a little bit late, but it's okay, all right. Who
- 14:16needs Who wants to go first? Kevin? Yeah, Morgan still got sleepy
- 14:18for coming in a little close to the microphone there. Sorry, all right,
- 14:24all right, so you just tart slept and say, I mean,
- 14:26it's not like you've been doing anything the last couple of days. It's been
- 14:30relaxing taking I've seen the pictures posted online. Kid, I don't think you've
- 14:33been relaxing a whole lot. Kevin Madison and Morgan Morrison for the Downtown Charles
- 14:39Association to talk Holly Jolly Brawley. I'm kind of kidding with them because they
- 14:41sent me a text like five was kind of like I walked out during the
- 14:45break. I was like, okay, my guest turn here and I was
- 14:46getting ready to call Morgan. Then I get a text from Kevin. It
- 14:50says, we'll be there in five. We just overslept. No, not
- 14:52we she you didn't oversleep. I was down there at seven forty five.
- 14:56Brother, Okay, we sold the pictures. Yeah, they're incredible. I
- 15:01mean, what's going to be going on there, Holly Jolly Bradley. It's
- 15:05absolutely fantastic. And I'm giving you a hard time, Morgan, you know,
- 15:07because you guys have been really, really busy. An army of how
- 15:11many volunteers you got out here to make this thing happen. Oh there's a
- 15:13thousands about just say thousands, thousands volunteers to the thousands were so there were
- 15:20so many people in city Center and Brawley Walkway yesterday. The Christmas vibe was
- 15:26there. People were helping each other, letting, the lending ladders. It
- 15:31was really incredible. And just see all those amazing pictures on Facebook, just
- 15:35from yesterday. It's just aw Well, in case folks may have missed you
- 15:37guys on the show last week, give us the overall on Holly Jolly Bradley,
- 15:43and then we'll get into these specifics. So I mean, holly jolly
- 15:46Brawley. Basically we have almost ended up being one hundred and sixty I believe
- 15:52Christmas trees. There are every tree sponsored by businesses and decorated. As far
- 15:56as the two day event goes, we kick of our synchronized light show,
- 16:00We have a city tree lighting, we have entertainment, live music, a
- 16:04Christmas vendor village, a kid village. What else do we have here?
- 16:08We have so much and it's a free event for the community to just come
- 16:14out and joy next Friday and Saturday. I mean, this thing is absolutely
- 16:18I mean how many years is this just a technically for the city. We
- 16:25had a smaller scale down version four years ago. The city wanted to do
- 16:30something you know during COVID that was you know, guideline friendly and things of
- 16:34that nature, and then DCA you know, stepped in and again without the
- 16:40help of the city like this couldn't be possible. But the first year we
- 16:42had fifty trees. And then if you remember, shortly after that event,
- 16:47Mayor Goodwin and Morgan we were all here and they agreed on air to do
- 16:51one hundred trees last year and we did and this year we have a few
- 16:56more we have a few more. You know, we just manifested a few
- 17:02more. It was fine. So I think it'll just be a thing that
- 17:06grows every year. And this year we really focused on making sure that we
- 17:10could you know, perfect the craft basically, David, it's it has ended
- 17:15up growing. We also have snow machines. I just want to throw that
- 17:17out there, snow machines. So Brawley's even going to be snowy whether you
- 17:21wanted to, whether you want snow or not. Because I don't think we're
- 17:22going to have it naturally, we'll take it anyway. We can get it
- 17:25in yeah, Christmas. So it's gonna be just It's one of those things
- 17:27that feels like a Hallmark movie. And again we got Black Friday art Walk
- 17:33going on downtown as well Saturday, Small Business Saturday. So the whole thing
- 17:37is, you know, just come downtown and support businesses and tell them about
- 17:41the trolley cuff the Holly Jolly Braley trolley there. Thank you. We want
- 17:45to clarify so of course the Holow Jolly Brawley event is free of charge to
- 17:51all those who come down, participate in the inflatables, the giant snow globe,
- 17:56the Light Show. The Holow Jelly Brawley Trolley proudly brought to you by
- 18:00the amazing people at KRT and again Mayor Goodwin's Office in the City of Charleston.
- 18:06That trolley will run from four pm to ten pm every Friday, Saturday
- 18:10and Sunday. That is free of charge. That will pick you up at
- 18:14City Center Lee Street Triangle, will take you to Gomart Ballpark and then the
- 18:21Capital Capital Market Village that they're doing the first three weekends in December, So
- 18:26Holly Jolly Brawley is free of charge. The trolley's free of charge. If
- 18:30you want to go down to Gomart Ballpark for the Soelango Dirty Birds Light the
- 18:34Night probably presented by Gomart as well. You know, there's an additional fee
- 18:40and you can check out their website for to get tickets at the box office
- 18:42for all that stuff. A lot of people are sending us messages because I
- 18:47believe Holly Jolly Brawley has been the catalyst to make Charleston like the Christmas Mecca
- 18:52this year, and there's so many things going on, so they just assume
- 18:55we're like, we know Ee's in charge of it all. We're just you
- 18:59know, we're king and yes, yes, but you know, and when
- 19:04we're happy to co promote Light the Night at the ballpark, Andy Sheha and
- 19:08his team, Ben and uh Jay, I mean, they have really stepped
- 19:14it up. I mean it's incredible. I would love to see it from
- 19:17an airplane. I would love to see it from an airplane. But we
- 19:19do need to make that distinction that you kind of pointed out, and I
- 19:22saw some chatter on social media about that these are totally separate events. Although
- 19:26you are happy to cross promote, they're promoting you Capital Markets. I mean
- 19:30it's all together, it's not really altogether separate events. So yeah, they
- 19:33get you know, people are asking us questions about what things caught like.
- 19:37We honestly don't know all the exact details, but we are happy to cross
- 19:41promote and we have put it together to whether there we'll be a trolley that
- 19:45will hop from you know, Triangle the park to Capital Markets. Capital Markets
- 19:52doing a Christmas village as well. So it's just amazing to me. I
- 19:56mean again, guys, over the over the last couple days with thing out
- 20:00over at the ballpark, I mean I have seen nothing but rave reviews on
- 20:04this. I mean millions, literally millions of lights over there. I know
- 20:08my man Woody was from my sister station. The Beat was over there,
- 20:11and he was acting a fool like what he does in public. But it's
- 20:15all good. Wood. He was out there and he posted pictures several other
- 20:19wood he was ice skating. Yeah yeah, that shouldn't happen ever, but
- 20:23he was out there on the skates and he was having a good time.
- 20:26Had to ad his family out there, and that's really what this whole thing
- 20:30is about, guys. It is just incredible. And you know, we
- 20:33actually got a snak pick. Kevin sadly couldn't join, but he's been there
- 20:37several other times. We met a joke. It's kind of like, you
- 20:38know, we have such a diverse selection of Christmas. When you go there,
- 20:41it's really like Las Vegas Strip, you know, casino, just high
- 20:47energy, all the lights love it, completely different energy. And then you
- 20:51can come downtown to like Holly Jolly Broaly and then it gives you like Stars
- 20:53Hollow, Hallmark Christmas movie energy. So it's truly, it's just such a
- 20:59great shouldn't have Because I think we were discussing it last time. People just
- 21:03travel for Christmas destinations and it just already just the buzz from everybody coming downtown.
- 21:10Yes, I mean yesterday morning just from decorating trees and everybody like you
- 21:14know, just seeing Charleston sparked on their radar. I mean, every like
- 21:18everywhere was packed downtown. I haven't seen downtown like that on a Sunday morning.
- 21:22And Sunday morning we walked by Ellen's and you couldn't even line out the
- 21:26door. And so you know that's it's just great. I think you know,
- 21:30hot tides rise, all ships. Yeah, it's gonna be great exactly.
- 21:33And again you and I, as you said, we talked about last
- 21:36time you hear about people go to these places like I know they go to
- 21:38Gallopolice, Ohio, they go up to Ogle Bay and Wheeling and places like
- 21:42that. And now people, I mean with this and with what's going on
- 21:47at the ballpark and Capital Market and even some of the surrounding. I just
- 21:49had Frank Mullins on, you know, the mayor of South Charleston, about
- 21:52what they've got going on over there. I mean, this is the place
- 21:56to be for Christmas. If you're into the Christmas thing, this is the
- 21:59place to be. And the Kenawh Valley here. That's that's the goal,
- 22:02you know, and we have we've actually, you know, we've teamed up
- 22:04with Jason Adams this year, so he'll actually be at the event. We'll
- 22:07have amazing footage and like you know, films and stuff for the Internet on
- 22:12the event. I think the CVB is doing something for promoting on all three
- 22:17areas, so I think it's going to be phenomenal. And then we're also
- 22:21investing in quality product to put out on the Internet for it to travel even
- 22:26further. And so yeah, the goal is honestly just year after year to
- 22:30grow, grow, grow exactly. And we're talking with Kevin Madison Morgan event.
- 22:33I think the CBB is doing something for promoting on all three areas,
- 22:37so I think it's going to be phenomenal. And then we're also investing in
- 22:41quality product to put out on the Internet for it to travel even further.
- 22:47And so yeah, the goal is honestly just year after year to grow,
- 22:49grow, grow exactly. And we're talking with Kevin Mathison Morgan Morrison for the
- 22:53Downtown Charles Association about Holly Jolly Brodt and now both of you guys outside your
- 22:59what you're doing here. I mean you both run small businesses. Let's talk
- 23:03about just a little bit kind of get away from Holly Jolly Brodley talk about
- 23:06the importance of shopping, shopping, dining, whatever the case is. Local
- 23:10this Hobbiday season in year round, it's extremely important. I mean these local
- 23:15businesses down here, you know, Purple Moon Consignment Company, Pies and Pine
- 23:21Hidelphia, Black Sheep, Rock City. We're the ones who step up to
- 23:26support your kids' football teams, soccer teams, cheerleading squads, dance teams.
- 23:30I'm to get people downtown and get them in these businesses, and you know
- 23:37the hustle and bustle. I don't mind being on a way to Black Sheep
- 23:40for four hours on Black Friday. Morgan doesn't mind the line out her door.
- 23:45Do you know in his team Philadelphia don't mind being on a way for
- 23:48three or four hours five street. It's kind of like a we're giving back.
- 23:52We're giving back to the community because these small businesses support our community year
- 23:57round and it's just that time of the year to give back. So Black
- 24:02Friday, Art Walk, Small Business Saturday. Those are two important dates.
- 24:06I mean, small businesses are the backbone of the community. And I believe,
- 24:10you know, it's feast or famine down here for us, and so
- 24:12we just want to do everything we can to help our small businesses, advocate
- 24:18for them. I'm one myself, and we depend on that. I mean,
- 24:22that's our livelihoods, Dave, And you know, I mean there's no
- 24:25secret with inflation and everything else, that hasn't been easy. So I think
- 24:29we're gunning even extra hard this year to just encourage everybody to support, you
- 24:33know, buy the Christmas s gift at buck and bed or Kinship anywhere,
- 24:38versus you know, ordering offline. Just get on the streets and support small
- 24:42and have dinner at Hale House or Philadelphia or Noah's instead of the outbacks in
- 24:52the Olive Gardens. And I do love the I do love so does the
- 24:57Olive Garden on the ere all we all, we all love those places.
- 25:03But I mean again and with all due respect to them, and many of
- 25:06them are respect very respectable members of the community that that do do no,
- 25:11Nate, but it's it's a lot more. You got a lot more invested
- 25:14in it. If you go to one of those restaurants that you mentioned earlier,
- 25:17or if you go to Rock City or any of those places. Absolutely.
- 25:22I mean it's just, you know, I believe that any successful small
- 25:26business that you still see with their doors open put their heart and soul into
- 25:30it. And it's it's quite literally, like I don't have children, but
- 25:33I have a really big one called Rock City, Like that's my child.
- 25:36And so you don't have children, have cupcakes? Yeah, yeah, I
- 25:38have a big old, seven thousand square foot building that I just love so
- 25:42dearly. But no, we all just like live and breathe our business and
- 25:47the passion and like behind the scenes stuff we put into it. I mean,
- 25:51it's just really just there's not really words for it name and so I
- 25:56just you know, all day long you just hear me preaching like support your
- 25:59small business, love Christmas, and love each other. Like that's basically my
- 26:03life motto. So it works. But Dave Valen showing five of any Life
- 26:07is brought to a part by General Hardware Number of Windfield. From kitchens to
- 26:11paints to decks, straight framing, wood, roofie, metal, and anything
- 26:14else you need, you'll find it a General Hardware number of Windfield. Text
- 26:17says Dave took my family over to light the night last night at the ballpark.
- 26:21Go Mark Bark Go Mark Ballpark. Wow. Absolutely beautiful display and everyone
- 26:26needs to attend experience this great display. Happy Thanksgiving, see awesome. It's
- 26:30magical. It is, it is, and it's going to be a magical
- 26:33when we do Holly Jolly Browley too. And so uh for those that are
- 26:38listening because to the power of the interwebs. Now you know, people listen
- 26:41to this show and others all over the place. It's not just a Charleston
- 26:45show, I mean anymore. I got at least three listeners outside Charleston,
- 26:48at least three. I just counted them big time. But why should people
- 26:55come? Why should people come to this downtown Holly Jolly? Probably? Why
- 26:57should they come? I mean, you know, multiple reasons, But why
- 27:02not come is the better question. It's a free event. We've invested literally
- 27:06thousands of dollars to all free. I mean there's nothing, there's not even
- 27:10there's not even costs when you get in, Like it's free face painting free,
- 27:14like alpine slide, free entertainment, Like there's no loopholes, Like everything
- 27:18is free other than the vendors, of course, which are technically small businesses.
- 27:23But I mean, just come out, you'll love it. You just
- 27:27feel the feeling of nostalgia and Christmas and community and when it's just honestly a
- 27:32feeling in the air when you get there, it is absolutely incredible and everybody's
- 27:37just in such good spirits. It supports small businesses. It supports us as
- 27:41an association to make sure that what we're doing is actually making a difference.
- 27:48And it's not even though the event is technically next Friday and Saturday. It's
- 27:52something that's up to the first of the year. So it's something that can
- 27:55bring you downtown constantly. And I saw that's something posted to last time.
- 28:00People were talking about coming down there taking pictures. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 28:02yeah, I mean we I mean, we should invest stock in some of
- 28:06these photographers. We had a dollar we're on every Christmas part at this month.
- 28:11Well, I mean again, it's happening Friday and Saturday, and it's
- 28:15after you enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner. Uh. Then it's an opportunity, you
- 28:19know, for you to go out and to uh and and and and do
- 28:22something fun. And it's kind of like you said, I could step back
- 28:25in time a little bit, you know, to be able to go back
- 28:27and enjoy the town, the town villages and the town village makes no sense
- 28:33whatsoever. But but you know what I'm trying to say, good nostalgic.
- 28:36Come on, I call it. Yeah, coming coming to downtown and supporting
- 28:40these businesses. And again the show goes everywhere. So it's not you know,
- 28:44we're talking about Charleston, but just as important to support him in Saint
- 28:47Albans and South Charleston and Huntington and and and and then the hurricane and everywhere
- 28:51where. People listening today, get out there and support those small business all
- 28:53right. Yeah, I've got it posted on my Facebook page and on the
- 28:57X the artists formally known as Twitter. Uh. The timeline, but again
- 29:00give us the give us a timeline for everything on Friday into Saturday. All
- 29:04right. So the event is twelve to eight. Black Friday Art Walk kicks
- 29:10off at noon. Holiay Jolly Brawley kicks off at noon. Our holiday market
- 29:14opens at noon. From noon to three, we're gonna have dj EJ doing
- 29:18a little entertaining at the same time. From one to three, we're gonna
- 29:21have Triple A Entertainment on Capitol Street providing entertainment for the West Manco Kid Zone
- 29:26We've got some inflatables over there. We've got a forty foot l pine slide
- 29:30that the folks at Kwantum Rentals ordered for us. It's amazing. Santa will
- 29:37be on Capitol Street from five to eight on Friday, the official City Christmas
- 29:42Tree lighting in City Centers at seven, and then we debut our expanded light
- 29:48show at seven point fifteen and you can come back and enjoy Small Business Saturday.
- 29:52Everything kicks off again at noon DJ EJ. We also can't forget that

- 30:06on Saturday, Shalem is six to seven on Small Business Saturday. We've got
- 30:11the Redline Band in City Center from four to six on Friday. I mean,
- 30:15there's all kinds of stuff to do all day long. When you get
- 30:19and you can go to Purple Moon and find something really cool from that amazing
- 30:23estate sale that Chuck and Connie. They have one of the best estate sales
- 30:27coming up on Black Friday. It's incredible. Find something there, have lunch
- 30:33somewhere downtown, get you a hot chocolate somewhere, and enjoys. It really
- 30:37is set up day to where we set it up like twelve to eight sounds
- 30:41like a long time, but there's so much to do in between. I
- 30:44mean, just make a day of it, you know. If it ends
- 30:47up being cold, we've got heaters and heaters. The haulag Jolly Brawley trolley's
- 30:51heated too, and it's free and it'll take you to all of the events.
- 30:56You can go to Dirty Birds Baseball, get your tickets or saloon and
- 31:00go dirty Birds. Light the night, I mean, good night, come
- 31:04down, good time. It's good times. And again I've got the schedule
- 31:07of everything posted on my social media. You guys have got it out all
- 31:10over the place too, So there is there like a really really good place
- 31:12to go to see everything, like a website or so, what's the best
- 31:15social media or whatever? Most of our updates are on Facebook, okay,
- 31:19they really We try to update everything on Facebook. We do have a website
- 31:23that tells you, you know, what Holly Jolly Brobably is and things like
- 31:26that, but the best thing is just social media. Yeah, for us
- 31:30at this very moment, sure, I guess go ahead, ken really quick.
- 31:33Now, those of you that are if there's anybody out there listening,
- 31:37and you and you purchase the tree this year. First of all, we
- 31:40thank you. If you haven't made it down to decorate your tree yet,
- 31:44we know our deadlines. Tomorrow. Weather's not looking great if you not for
- 31:48tomorrow. After tomorrow, not for tomorrow. If you, yeah, weather
- 31:51Friday and Saturday look incredible. But if you have a tree and you need
- 31:55to decorate it, we highly recommend doing that. At some point today there
- 31:59will be someone there with an event staff shirt to help you throughout the day.
- 32:01Now, how does that work? You say, your tree? How
- 32:06for those who don't know, including myself, exactly, how does that work?
- 32:07What do you mean by your tree? From the local several of our
- 32:10local businesses, I've got this list right here, you know, five pages
- 32:14long. Everybody the business is signed up and they purchased the purchase the tree.
- 32:20Okay, okay, And we have a you know, on the base.
- 32:23It has their number, the QR code provided by the Charleston Convention and
- 32:28Visitors Bureau and their tree number, and it's for voting purposes. When they
- 32:32come and they decorate their tree that best suits you know, their brand or
- 32:37their business model. And I'll tell you what people have stepped it up this
- 32:40year. I feel sorry for Mayor Goodwin. She's got a hard task this
- 32:45year to pick out the Mayor's Choice Award. There you go, guys.
- 32:50I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to be here. Kevin,
- 32:53I know you've been hard out of this morning. Morgan's been asleep, but

- 33:00will David, I completely overslept this way. It was a long time.
- 33:04We were both out there late last night. We had like it was a
- 33:07long day yesterday and I ended up getting roped into decorating the bakery until like
- 33:12three am. And I'm just exhausted. The Christmas chair is keeping me awake
- 33:15day, Yeah, is that what it is? Yeah? I'm fueled by
- 33:17magic and coffee this something like that. All right, Kevin and Morgan,
- 33:22I appreciate you being here. I will see it, Holly, Jolly Browdley.

- 37:42A little programming note here coming up on the show tomorrow, State Senator
- 37:45Amy Grady is going to be here. Also, Rick Cavander from Charleston Urban
- 37:50Works will be here, and Tim Head from the Faith and Freedom Coalition will
- 37:54be on the show tomorrow as well. No show Thursday, no show Friday,
- 37:59do to things break. So Wednesday will be the final show and I'll
- 38:01be back at it again next Monday. I want to talk a little this
- 38:07morning about Senator Joe Manchin. Now, Hoppy has a great commentary about the
- 38:14Senator this morning, and if you missed it, urge you to go read
- 38:19it at wv Metronews dot com. And it has to do with the so
- 38:27called Great Middle. Now, Senator Manchin says, since he is not running
- 38:36for reelection, he will instead travel the country to see his words. Now
- 38:44if he can tap into the great middle of America that is fed up with
- 38:51the extreme politics of both parties. Again, I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically
- 38:54what Senator Mansion said. Now, I understand he was on Meet the Press
- 38:58yesterday. I didn't see that. I'm gonna try to go back and watch
- 39:00that at another time, maybe later today. As Hoppy points out, the
- 39:07polls have shown that a great number of Americans are simply fed up with both
- 39:17sides and that they people in these polls no longer really fit the Democratic or
- 39:31Republican parties. Now, now this is just my take, and take it
- 39:38for what it's worth. Take my take for what it's worth. I don't
- 39:44think that most people are ready to give up on the parties just yet,
- 39:52but I think that most would like them to dial it back a little bit.
- 40:01Now here's where I'm going with this. If you are a classic West
- 40:07Virginia Democrat, and classic West Virginia Democrats tend to be pro life, pro
- 40:15gun, pro cole the National Democrat Party, pro choice, anti gun,
- 40:23anti fossil fuels. Now, obviously there are some variables in there, but
- 40:30I think that by and large that's a pretty fair assessment. Now, if
- 40:37you are a classic Republican, you tend to be, among other things,
- 40:42pro military, smaller government, pro life, pro gun, profossil fuels,
- 40:46etc. Et cetera. And the smaller government point I bring up because I
- 40:50think it's really interesting that although one of the mantras, if you will,
- 40:54of the Republican Party has been limited government, stay out of people's lives.
- 40:59But there are or some within the Republican party that want more governments in your
- 41:06life. But that's another story for another time. So I think that's where
- 41:12most people who still identify with those parties land. And again there are variables,
- 41:22but that's pretty much the way it is. A classic West Virginia Democrat,
- 41:29as I see Senator Mansion being, they look around and they see what's
- 41:37being represented on the national level and it probably doesn't match up with their belief
- 41:45system. And that's why so many have switched parties to either Republican or Independent.
- 41:55Now in West Virginia we see it's not just officeholders that are switching that
- 42:00makes the news. You know when when when when Doug Scaff and I'm just
- 42:04used Scaff as an example. Doug Scaff who was a couple of months ago
- 42:07the House Minority leaders, switches parties to Republican, When Jim Justice switches from
- 42:12Democrat to Republican. Those sorts of things make news. Doesn't always make news
- 42:16when you know John that that works down at the at the garage switches party.
- 42:23When when Mary who works at the restaurants doesn't not necessarily make news,
- 42:29uh, but but they're switching that they're switching, and they're switching because they're
- 42:34fed up with both parties perhaps, or maybe they find that the national Party
- 42:40just doesn't line up with them anymore. You know the famous Ronald Reagan statement,
- 42:45I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me. And
- 42:47not to be outdone, I get texted the show from time to time for
- 42:52people, albeit a very small number, that have left the Republican Party and
- 43:00have gone either independent, nonpartisan, or have gone Democrat, much much much
- 43:05smaller number, but it does, it does happen. And I have wondered
- 43:14aloud if a and I've even brought it up on the show, if a
- 43:17John F. Kennedy or even a Bill Clinton would be welcome in the modern
- 43:25Democrat Party. And Greg Thomas and I talked about this on the show last
- 43:32week. This situation in Israel is a perfect example of that. This situation
- 43:40in Israel is going to be very problematic come election time. I don't think
- 43:46necessarily in West Virginia, but on a nationwide level, it's going to be
- 43:52very problematic for the Democratic Party. As if they didn't already have enough issues
- 43:57the situation in Israel. Many Democrats, many do not go along with the
- 44:06Biden administration support of Israel, and again I think that's going to be very
- 44:12problematic for a lot of Democrats. Again not necessarily in West Virginia, but
- 44:15in next year's elections. Now, as for the Republicans, there are a
- 44:23lot of Republicans out there who look around at the National Republican Party and they
- 44:30see Donald Trump, Matt Gates, Marjorie Taylor Green, etc. And they
- 44:35say, there's no way, there's no way those people represent me present company
- 44:40included in that as a Republican. So there is a middle out there somewhere.

- 48:52Manchin is a really smart politician. The last thing he wanted on his resume
- 48:55was being beat by Big Daddy Mansion. Was not looking for reading the book
- 49:00Baby Dog Goes to Washington. According to a Texter Texas Dave, I'm curious
- 49:08as to how a water line punctured and filled a gas line. Do you
- 49:10think we'll get an answer to that. Well, there's going to be a
- 49:13lot of questions come out of this, a whole lot, a whole lot
- 49:15of questions answered supposely and again, West Virginia American water, in my opinion
- 49:21and the words of Ricky Ricardo got some splaining to do. I really do
- 49:25believe that Texas, the classic Wes Virginia Democrat, was physically liberal and socially
- 49:30conservative. Will flip in West Virginia had to state physically and socially conservative?
- 49:35Or do you think West Virginia still like government spending. I don't know what
- 49:45that means, all right, Texa, says Dave Dunbar. Soccer fields jam
- 49:49packed this past weekend, Dirty Bird's Park packed. Wonder what negative response Tar
- 49:53has about people coming to our towns. I don't know. I will talk
- 49:59to Senator Tara. I don't think he's gonna have a whole lot negative By
- 50:00the way, anybody that doesn't think that sports tourism I know, anytime we
- 50:06talked about sports tourism on this show, we have people that say, oh,
- 50:08they're putting money into a ball field. Yeah, well over a million
- 50:10dollars at the last tournament came into local economy. So yeah, it's a
- 50:15real thing. Tex says Trump supports Amas, not good. Tex says the
- 50:22great middle can't be bothered to vote for mansion in West Virginia. West Virginia
- 50:27is too extreme to be reasonable and will stay this way until the GOP hits
- 50:30rock bottom. They are heading that way fast with their adoration of a sex
- 50:34abuser. Texas Republican voter registration in West Virginia thirty nine percent. The GOP
- 50:38is a minority rule party. All uniquely Republican ideas are unpopular. According to
- 50:45a texture, Texas says, just killed a nice buck while listening to your
- 50:49show. Well, I feel like that for the buck, but hey,
- 50:53more power. I don't know if it was with a car or a with
- 50:58a gun, but regardless, congratulations to that Texter. Let me finish up
- 51:04by saying this. The majority of Americans say they don't want Biden or Trump
- 51:08to be the nominee for president, but they are going to be the nominees,
- 51:15which is sad in my opinion. And the more Trump loses in court,
- 51:21the more popular more indictments to get, the more popular he becomes.
- 51:24So all right, we'll leave it there, all right, gotta go.
- 51:28Thank you so much to Kevin and Morgan for Holly Jolly Brodley and South Charleston
