- 0:47Speaker 3: Oh right, Ollo, how are you, Bud?
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'm doing great, buddy.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Uh, just living that life. I got to go home
- 0:57Speaker 3: to the north Land this weekend.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That was the lie Nor with Es. It was beautiful
- 1:01Speaker 2: up there. Well, it was hot and lots of it
- 1:04Speaker 2: was a hot weekend. Yeah, because you guys were up
- 1:06Speaker 2: north too, right.
- 1:08Speaker 4: We were at it was windy, which actually because it
- 1:12Speaker 4: was so hot and humid, that constant like yeah you
- 1:16Speaker 4: need a twenty mile hour wind was feeling pretty good.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah. And I don't know about there, but it like
- 1:22Speaker 3: kind of low key rumbled and stormed. The whole weekend
- 1:26Speaker 3: for us.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It was. It was just the Sunday when I was
- 1:30Speaker 2: heading back.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It was pretty quel we had and we had rain
- 1:34Speaker 3: off and on, but like lots of lightning and thunder,
- 1:36Speaker 3: a lot of heat and stuff up there. So but
- 1:40Speaker 3: it was nice. But a lot of cards hung out.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's some good food. That's good, how about you?
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Man also went up north enjoyed it. I did
- 1:49Speaker 4: a lot of fishing, and I caught my personal best
- 1:52Speaker 4: that's right like an hour or two before we were
- 1:56Speaker 4: actually gonna leave. It was right before the storm was starting.
- 2:00Speaker 4: And I think that's kind of a thing for fish.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I think that.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Over the years people say that like for something I
- 2:06Speaker 3: don't really know.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It was a cool experience.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I was literally on the dock and I never catch
- 2:12Speaker 4: anything off that dock, and uh yeah, I first had
- 2:19Speaker 4: this like lure get eaten off, which doesn't ever happen,
- 2:23Speaker 4: and I was like.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think that that was really big. I think that
- 2:26Speaker 2: was a big one.
- 2:28Speaker 4: So then I immediately got some bait on, threw it
- 2:31Speaker 4: out there, caught it and it was.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Just so much fun. That's awesome.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I've really It was twenty inches five pound largemouth bass.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Damn which now I've caught bigger fish than that, like
- 2:44Speaker 4: walleyes and stuff, but they are just not as much
- 2:46Speaker 4: fun to.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Catch as a bass.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Those things just fight and they're crazy, And we need.
- 2:51Speaker 3: To get you sturgeon fishing, because that that would be
- 2:54Speaker 3: my friend. Like my brother and nephews say, like, that's
- 2:58Speaker 3: the beasnees. I think if you fought that his giant
- 3:02Speaker 3: which I think was sixty eight inches or something, oh
- 3:04Speaker 3: my gosh, it was a monster anyway. Yeah, and he
- 3:07Speaker 3: I think he fought it for like an hour and
- 3:09Speaker 3: a half or something.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and they do. Now that sounds too much like
- 3:16Speaker 2: switch on and off and stuff with it. Oh okay, sure,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I don't like you need a buddy help.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It not really a part of this world. No, I
- 3:23Speaker 3: know that I don't know things, but I bet you
- 3:26Speaker 3: would like it. You go, my brother, they'd be glad
- 3:29Speaker 3: to have you.
- 3:30Speaker 4: I feel like I would need to like just gradually
- 3:32Speaker 4: get there, like maybe then go like Musky, then maybe
- 3:36Speaker 4: to the monsters those dinosaurs.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 3: The only bad thing about sturgeon fishing is like the
- 3:41Speaker 3: time when they catch them, it's still real cold out
- 3:44Speaker 3: because like, oh sure, you usually really have to.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Bundle up and stuff, so that might not be fun. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 3:52Speaker 3: That's awesome, dude.
- 3:53Speaker 5: I love it, but.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I've kind of gotten into it. It was fun and
- 3:56Speaker 3: it was cool. It feels like a thing I would
- 3:58Speaker 3: get into because it's like you just kind of go
- 4:00Speaker 3: and hang out.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, and there's like, you know, there's kind of
- 4:04Speaker 4: some skill to it, just to know like totally when
- 4:08Speaker 4: you have to set it and stuff like that, and
- 4:10Speaker 4: it's just it's fun.
- 4:11Speaker 2: But it was really fun.
- 4:12Speaker 4: I got to like show everybody and the kids were
- 4:14Speaker 4: freaking out because I was on the dock and then yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 4: just release this thing back out and we all said
- 4:21Speaker 4: bye to it.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It was really fun. Like we're gonna get you again
- 4:23Speaker 2: next time, I hope. So, yeah, you're even bigger. I'll
- 4:26Speaker 2: let you get even bigger.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Love.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah that's awesome, dude.
- 4:30Speaker 4: But yeah, man, we uh, we didn't really get to
- 4:33Speaker 4: watch too many movies. But say, what was the last
- 4:36Speaker 4: movie you watched?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Last movie that I watched? I streamed a movie. I
- 4:41Speaker 2: think it was on Prime question Mark.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I think that's right.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm looking at the poster and of course this one
- 4:48Speaker 2: does not say I don't remember.
- 4:52Speaker 3: It's out there somewhere. It's a movie called Babes New Release.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Uh it features u Oh why does it not.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Start with her?
- 5:02Speaker 3: Ilana Glazer, who we know love from Broad Street.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, And I never I never saw that, but I
- 5:13Speaker 2: know her.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah, very popular y Yeah. And Michelle Bhuteau, who you
- 5:19Speaker 3: would know. She's been in a number of things, but
- 5:22Speaker 3: it is not like a huge, huge deal. I think
- 5:24Speaker 3: she's like an improviser kind of person as well. And
- 5:28Speaker 3: Hassan Minaj makes a little uh an appearance in this one.
- 5:32Speaker 3: And this is a great it's a great movie about
- 5:35Speaker 3: those two ladies. Basically they've been friends like forever. One
- 5:40Speaker 3: of them has kids, one does not, and then it
- 5:44Speaker 3: sort of turns into a story. Alana Glaser is the
- 5:46Speaker 3: one who does not have kids, and she gets pregnant
- 5:49Speaker 3: and decides to keep the kiddo, and.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It's it's all about that.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Journey basically of like having a kiddo while being single
- 5:58Speaker 3: and kind of transitioning into the next like part of
- 6:01Speaker 3: everyone's lives and like what that looks like and things
- 6:04Speaker 3: like that and stressors it puts on the friendship and
- 6:07Speaker 3: stuff like that. But This movie was really great. It's
- 6:10Speaker 3: an hour forty four so it's a quick little watch. Uh.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It is funny but has some heart to it as well.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And it's just really great. I really liked it.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I thought it was fun nice.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And you didn't mention that our friend John Carroll Lynch
- 6:25Speaker 3: was in it.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's right, Jock Carroll Lynch is in it.
- 6:28Speaker 3: That's right, Africa.
- 6:29Speaker 5: We love Oliver Platt.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And yeah, it's a great cast.
- 6:31Speaker 3: It's a super fun cast.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Man to check it out.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It's a fun movie, man, it's it's one of those
- 6:36Speaker 3: like coming of age.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know, friendship comedy sort of things.
- 6:42Speaker 3: But it's really good.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I think you'd like it for sure. It'd be a
- 6:45Speaker 2: great Plaine movie for instance.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Right, sure, yeah, you know.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So? Yeah, it was fun. I recommend how do you
- 6:51Speaker 2: what's the last movie? Useful?
- 6:53Speaker 4: I also went to a streaming device, but I went
- 6:55Speaker 4: to Netflix. Then watched a brand new Netflix movie called
- 7:00Speaker 4: Land of Bad, which features Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Milo
- 7:08Speaker 4: event Emilia from what was that called that big show
- 7:13Speaker 4: This is Us that blew up?
- 7:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he was in Heroes too, right and Heroes?
- 7:19Speaker 4: Yes, it's probably Milo, I said, Milo and then Luke Hemsworth.
- 7:23Speaker 4: So Liam and Luke got to hang out in a movie,
- 7:26Speaker 4: which was fun. But it's a it's about a special
- 7:29Speaker 4: Forces unit that's on a mission and of course everything
- 7:33Speaker 4: goes wrong and it's them dealing with that. And it's
- 7:38Speaker 4: pretty well done for not having like hundreds of millions
- 7:42Speaker 4: of dollars, and like there's a ton of action and
- 7:47Speaker 4: bombs and things going off. Like it was pretty good
- 7:50Speaker 4: for the lower budget, you know, pretty compelling. Some really
- 7:57Speaker 4: violent things go down, So if that is not your thing,
- 8:00Speaker 4: i'd stay away. Like, there was some pretty graphic things
- 8:03Speaker 4: that happened, which caught me off guard actually, but still
- 8:09Speaker 4: definitely worth checking out. There's one kind of subplot that
- 8:12Speaker 4: I thought was a little hockey ridiculous. Sure, if you're
- 8:17Speaker 4: able to get past that, it's it's pretty solid.
- 8:23Speaker 3: That's cool, man. Yeah, I haven't even heard of this.
- 8:25Speaker 3: That's great.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I mean it just came out, oh okay on the Netflix.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 4: But speaking of Netflix and other streaming devices, what have
- 8:33Speaker 4: you been streaming?
- 8:35Speaker 3: I have been streaming season two of House of the
- 8:38Speaker 3: Dragon on HBO mas I haven't.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Started it yet.
- 8:42Speaker 5: How is it?
- 8:43Speaker 3: It's pretty good? I feel like this season is a
- 8:46Speaker 3: little slower, a little more like political intrigue than than anything.
- 8:53Speaker 5: But I like that stuff though, don't you.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah, usually it's not like gripping. I guess I'm still
- 8:58Speaker 3: watching it, but I don't This show in general has
- 9:02Speaker 3: not quite gripped me gripped me yet.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I don't know. It kind of victim too.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I did like the first season, but they kind of
- 9:11Speaker 3: like it's kind of the same thing we've talked about
- 9:13Speaker 3: before they out they're all kind of bad. So I'm
- 9:16Speaker 3: just like, I'm not really rooting for anyone, right, and
- 9:19Speaker 3: that's tough.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Apparently I need that, Like, I don't know, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 2: like I just don't think any of them are super great.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but it is super well.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Done and there's some great acting in it that I
- 9:33Speaker 2: really like.
- 9:34Speaker 3: So I don't know, kind of a mixed bag, but
- 9:36Speaker 3: I'm still enjoying it, and the parts that have been
- 9:38Speaker 3: awesome are awesome, of course, But yeah, it's just like
- 9:42Speaker 3: it takes It's just taken me a little longer to
- 9:44Speaker 3: get into it. But You're right, there's no reason I
- 9:47Speaker 3: shouldn't because I like political intrigue stuff, but it hasn't
- 9:51Speaker 3: quite nabbed me yet.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Yeah, there was one horrific scene in the first one
- 9:57Speaker 4: that I was like, do I keep watching this?
- 9:58Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, I'll keep watching it.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And it wasn't as horribly graphic as I was thinking
- 10:05Speaker 4: it would be.
- 10:07Speaker 3: There's one of those in this season that is like
- 10:10Speaker 3: I seriously was like, this stuff doesn't bother me, and
- 10:12Speaker 3: that bothers me.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah. I was just like, well Jesus, Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 4: So I was kind of on the fence with that
- 10:20Speaker 4: show a little bit, and I haven't started it yet.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Is the whole thing out yet? We got to be close?
- 10:27Speaker 5: Okay, don't know how many episodes are you in.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I think I've seen five.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Oh okay, that's more than I thought already. Yeah, I think.
- 10:35Speaker 3: There's like seven out or something.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Okay, so far.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So, like I said, it's not bad. I mean, by
- 10:42Speaker 3: any means, it's really well done. It's just like, I
- 10:45Speaker 3: don't know, I just want someone to be like like
- 10:48Speaker 3: John Snow. I was like, I love him and I
- 10:51Speaker 3: want everything to go well for him, you know, like right,
- 10:54Speaker 3: I just wanted to do somebody, you know, like I
- 10:57Speaker 3: at least want to be mad that it didn't or
- 10:59Speaker 3: something right.
- 11:01Speaker 2: All of them, just like, well, who gives a shit?
- 11:03Speaker 2: You kind of suck. Totally get it, but how about you?
- 11:06Speaker 2: What even streaming? Kind of cheating?
- 11:09Speaker 4: But been on the YouTube TV and I think it's
- 11:12Speaker 4: also on peacock. But the Paris Summer Olympics, dude with you,
- 11:18Speaker 4: we kind of had it on throughout the whole weekend,
- 11:21Speaker 4: just on in the background, absolutely.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Which I love.
- 11:24Speaker 3: I love that about the Olympics. And when I look
- 11:27Speaker 3: this morning, we had the most medals at twelve. I
- 11:30Speaker 3: think later on we were at fourteen, but several other
- 11:34Speaker 3: countries have more gold than us.
- 11:35Speaker 2: So far.
- 11:38Speaker 4: We had the most silvers, I think. But anyway, I've
- 11:42Speaker 4: seen a few different things. I got to see the
- 11:44Speaker 4: US men's basketball team beat Serbia. I did watch that game.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It was a great game.
- 11:49Speaker 2: That was a fun game. It started just pretty slow. Yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and beat sucks so far, Yep. It was more yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 2: just like turnovers. Yeah, just ugly. You're going up against jokers.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You're gonna he's going to score some points.
- 12:06Speaker 4: I have seen some handball, which I had never seen before.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Handball is mental.
- 12:12Speaker 2: It's crazy fun. It was crazy.
- 12:14Speaker 4: It was kind of like basketball meets lacrosse meets.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I don't know. It's it's crazy. I watched that, and
- 12:21Speaker 2: I watched did you see the water polo stuff at all?
- 12:24Speaker 2: A little bit of the water polo that was the
- 12:26Speaker 2: same day.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I think that's insane, like that is like the shape
- 12:30Speaker 3: you must have to be into.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I guess it kind of like water polo too.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I guess you can put that in the same similar
- 12:37Speaker 4: they not in water obviously, but same kind of a thing.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I saw some rugby, saw some swimming. Nice.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I was not able to check out the women's gymnastics,
- 12:47Speaker 4: even though I heard they just crushed everybody in the
- 12:51Speaker 4: like qualifying round.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Or simone did that vault trick that no, that no
- 12:57Speaker 3: woman I think has ever done in the Olympics or
- 12:59Speaker 3: something or in competition maybe even or something, and she
- 13:02Speaker 3: just like killed it.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It was awesome. She's insane. I love her. But yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: it's fine. I love I love the Olympics.
- 13:10Speaker 3: It's it's fun too, because it's just like it's such
- 13:13Speaker 3: an easy like, oh well, I will cheer from for
- 13:16Speaker 3: the US, you know, like you don't to know anything
- 13:19Speaker 3: and just be like I'm in Yeah, I've never watched
- 13:23Speaker 3: a second of this. And also, how are we losing
- 13:25Speaker 3: to the.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Right very quickly. Yeah, it is fun. I love it. Yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 2: that's fun. Well, what do you think should we do
- 13:36Speaker 2: if you plug your runs? Yes? Nice.

- 14:33Speaker 2: To do our top five John Candy films.
- 14:36Speaker 3: So excited me to filmography.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Man love that man so much.

- 15:10Speaker 4: first time it's happened in the five years we've done
- 15:13Speaker 4: this podcast.
- 15:15Speaker 3: It's yeah, it's so infrequent that I didn't even think
- 15:17Speaker 3: that could ever be a possible.
- 15:19Speaker 2: No, same was just like, what do you mean?
- 15:22Speaker 4: We were going to have our good friend Adam chance
- 15:25Speaker 4: On and he texted me is like, where did you
- 15:26Speaker 4: find this movie? I literally cannot find it anywhere, and
- 15:29Speaker 4: I was like.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I haven't got Yeah, I am sorry, Yeah, yeah, weird one.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So it was a weird one.
- 15:36Speaker 3: So there'll be more stuff coming. Just hang out, it'll
- 15:38Speaker 3: be great, great, be cool. Well, we're here today to
- 15:42Speaker 3: talk about a lovely film called Uncle Buck. Yes, the
- 15:48Speaker 3: aforementioned Jonathan Candy. Uh, and it's going to be so fun.
- 15:52Speaker 3: But you guys know what, we had to do a
- 15:55Speaker 3: film like this from from when we were kids. We
- 15:57Speaker 3: had to bring in Rob's papa here to hang out
- 16:00Speaker 3: with us.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Give it up for the big dady himself, Fred lu
- 16:05Speaker 2: We what's up dad?
- 16:07Speaker 5: Well, I just got a little note that says this
- 16:10Speaker 5: is hope.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You knew that.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. I try to be sly.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Okay, I don't mind.
- 16:17Speaker 2: How are you?
- 16:18Speaker 5: How are you let me find me? Okay? Button?
- 16:24Speaker 3: Hey, Hey buddy, I've seen you so recently. It feels
- 16:27Speaker 3: so nice to see you again.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Yes.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Usually when we do these, I record it with
- 16:34Speaker 4: my dad. But they went and had a little flu
- 16:39Speaker 4: over there, and I was like, I'm about to leave
- 16:41Speaker 4: and see my bandmates and don't want to give them that.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So we're doing this thing.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Give it to you much love, No your bandmates. But
- 16:50Speaker 5: for sure.
- 16:51Speaker 3: The real story is we only book people when they're
- 16:54Speaker 3: sick or recently sick. Now on the podcast, that's all
- 16:57Speaker 3: we do.
- 16:58Speaker 2: That's how to work.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Usually they're shitting behind me on a long flight.
- 17:05Speaker 2: It's perfect.
- 17:06Speaker 3: We'll keep you up. It'spritty with water every once in
- 17:09Speaker 3: a while. It'll be great.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It'll be great. But well, we're so happy to have
- 17:14Speaker 2: you here, well, excited to have you on. Dad is
- 17:16Speaker 2: going to be.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Thanks for having me. I love the movie. We're gonna
- 17:19Speaker 5: do so I can't and in fact, it's one of
- 17:22Speaker 5: my favorite.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Maybe we shouldn't. You know, Fred wanted us to make
- 17:26Speaker 3: sure everyone goes to home free music dot Com support
- 17:31Speaker 3: us sound so I have to continue to think so
- 17:35Speaker 3: I'm just kidding. But let's get started, Rob, let's start
- 17:40Speaker 3: talking about Uncle Buck. We're celebrating. Wait, when did this
- 17:44Speaker 3: come out?
- 17:44Speaker 2: I should have researched thirty five thirty thirty.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Five years ago? Uncle Buck and Rob, will you get
- 17:52Speaker 3: started with just a rough synopsias?
- 17:56Speaker 2: I would love to.
- 17:57Speaker 4: When Cindy and her husband Bob have to leave town
- 18:01Speaker 4: for a family emergency, there's only one person available to
- 18:04Speaker 4: babysit for their three kids, Bob's lazy, care free brother Buck.
- 18:10Speaker 4: While he immediately gets along with the two younger children,
- 18:14Speaker 4: Buck must change his bachelor lifestyle if he wants to
- 18:17Speaker 4: be a responsible caregiver for the angst filled teenager Tia.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Nice nice read, nice read, nice read.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Let's go to rotten to modes near what they have
- 18:28Speaker 3: to say. Critics have it's coming in at a pretty
- 18:30Speaker 3: rough sixty two percent. I was a little surprised by that,
- 18:34Speaker 3: although it's it's so into maybe I don't know, people
- 18:38Speaker 3: are weird. It's I don't know if that's even accurate,
- 18:41Speaker 3: but we're weird. Sixty two seems low, I mean, come on, and.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's unfair.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I mean better, but still not quite good enough in
- 18:50Speaker 3: my opinion as audience members. At seventy seven percent, that's better.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, still lower than it's still lower. But like, what
- 18:58Speaker 2: did critics think this was gonna be? They think it
- 19:02Speaker 2: was gonna be something different.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I thought it was pretty universal. So these are shocking.
- 19:09Speaker 3: I agree, But what's really important is what we think.
- 19:11Speaker 3: So what do you think, gentlemen? Is the time for
- 19:13Speaker 3: our hot takes? Oh, giant Flapjack.
- 19:20Speaker 2: That's a hot take? That at that's pretty good. That's
- 19:24Speaker 2: pretty good.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I will go first on this one. I love this movie.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I have always loved this movie. I think it is
- 19:32Speaker 3: like the perfect balance of silly family comedy, which is
- 19:37Speaker 3: like a sprinkle of like real life drama in there
- 19:41Speaker 3: we get kind of the like tasty treat of you know,
- 19:44Speaker 3: they the brother and the uncle Buck haven't really had
- 19:47Speaker 3: a great relationship clearly, and clearly the mother does not
- 19:52Speaker 3: quite like Uncle Buck all that much. But overall this
- 19:56Speaker 3: movie is just fantastic. I think it has a ton
- 19:59Speaker 3: of heart. John and who I know we're going to
- 20:01Speaker 3: talk about a ton in this is perfect in it.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Like he's just such a lovable man in all the
- 20:07Speaker 3: best ways, knows how to have fun. Maybe he isn't
- 20:10Speaker 3: like the most cleanly man in the world or considerate,
- 20:14Speaker 3: but is very kind of heart and spirit, I think,
- 20:18Speaker 3: and that shows through.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I love the music in this movie.
- 20:21Speaker 3: I had kind of forgot how many hot bangers were
- 20:24Speaker 3: in here, like that Yes, and that cordette song. I
- 20:29Speaker 3: love that cordette song and I'm sure this is the
- 20:31Speaker 3: first place I ever heard it. The Sandman tune. I
- 20:36Speaker 3: just love that version so much. But yeah, overall this
- 20:40Speaker 3: movie is fantastic. I love it, and I think I
- 20:45Speaker 3: can personally this is perhaps my hottest take. I think
- 20:47Speaker 3: I can personally thank John Candy in this movie for
- 20:50Speaker 3: making me want to be the funkal that I am.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Truly in this world. You know, I'm the fun uncle
- 20:55Speaker 2: who is not always reliable, but we try, we try it.
- 21:00Speaker 3: You're gonna get a huge pancake, though, I'll tell you what.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Oh as a huge pancake, and I have seen you
- 21:05Speaker 4: when you've been eating chips. Then just get the vacuum
- 21:08Speaker 4: cleaner and just get it right on your person.
- 21:12Speaker 3: That is, there's never extra snacks left over. I'm pretty clean,
- 21:16Speaker 3: but only because I'm eating them really so. Oh yes,
- 21:20Speaker 3: the hoovers right next door for sure.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Of course. Well that was a hot take. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 2: I don't have anything too crazy hot, but I love it.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Honestly, it's almost word for word. We feel almost the
- 21:33Speaker 4: exact same about it. I have seen this movie so
- 21:35Speaker 4: many times, especially with my dad, but it had been
- 21:39Speaker 4: a long time since i'd seen it now. To be fair,
- 21:43Speaker 4: I watched it roughly a thousand times when I was
- 21:46Speaker 4: a kid, so I knew every word still. But yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 4: it had been a really long time, so it was
- 21:52Speaker 4: very fun to rewatch. This was another John Hughes written
- 21:56Speaker 4: and directed film.
- 21:58Speaker 2: We've done quite.
- 21:59Speaker 4: A few of those now. He was a brilliant guy.
- 22:02Speaker 4: I agree that John Candy was perfect. Cannot imagine anyone
- 22:05Speaker 4: else pulling off the role the way that he did,
- 22:09Speaker 4: because he's so good at the comedy and the heart,
- 22:13Speaker 4: and he's just.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Other people could have done it, it just wouldn't have
- 22:17Speaker 2: been as good.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I don't agree.
- 22:19Speaker 2: He's just so charming, and the.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Whole cast is great, especially the kids who are still
- 22:25Speaker 4: working actors today, all three of them.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I also loved the music. I can't wait to show
- 22:33Speaker 2: this one of the kids when they're a little older. Yes,
- 22:37Speaker 2: do you think is appropriate for this one? Well, these folks,
- 22:40Speaker 2: my folks thought six six was a good time because
- 22:43Speaker 2: I saw it right. I mean me too so many times.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I was very young, but maybe maybe it was a
- 22:55Speaker 2: couple of years after. But on video, Yeah, for sure,
- 22:58Speaker 2: we watched it a lot. My hottest take. I had
- 23:02Speaker 2: no idea how filthy that.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Washing machine scene was not the same the same thing,
- 23:10Speaker 4: because when I was a kid that went way over there.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Wow, I was some real nasty things to that washing
- 23:19Speaker 2: machine load. That's the that's the main thing.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Is a freak.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Man, She's a freak. I love it. She was. She was.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Mercy dog Grin from ye.
- 23:35Speaker 3: So if I get compliments on the hype, but yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 3: that's that's for sure my hottest take.
- 23:42Speaker 2: That is a hot take because I thought the exact
- 23:45Speaker 2: same thing.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I was, like, my goodness, I felt like if I
- 23:48Speaker 3: was wearing pearls, I'd have clutched them for sure, like
- 23:51Speaker 3: what happens?
- 23:53Speaker 2: Good?
- 23:54Speaker 3: That's gracious, gross love it, hot take, buddy, hot tech.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Thank you Dad. What did you think about this film?
- 24:01Speaker 5: Well, I have enjoyed this film for thirty five point
- 24:07Speaker 5: three years.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I've loved it immediately.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I bought it as soon as it came out on
- 24:15Speaker 5: We bought it on VHS, we bought it on DVD.
- 24:21Speaker 5: I still love it. I just watched it because we're
- 24:25Speaker 5: going to do this podcast, and it was a labor
- 24:28Speaker 5: of love. I think the cast was great. Mercy Dolgren
- 24:34Speaker 5: Frost was a gas. But my favorite little part about
- 24:38Speaker 5: that wasn't her I get complimented on the hyphen It's
- 24:42Speaker 5: typical John Candy where he goes, well, of.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Course, yes, sure, sure, yes.
- 24:48Speaker 5: I love how he can do them, like when I
- 24:52Speaker 5: get knocked to the floor and there's a coffee ready,
- 24:55Speaker 5: yet I'm a little thirsty. I mean it's the little
- 25:00Speaker 5: things that big things aren't riot obviously, but the little
- 25:05Speaker 5: things that Candy, and only Candy could do in a
- 25:08Speaker 5: movie really makes this even better than it could be
- 25:14Speaker 5: without all of his aside I love the humor, I
- 25:18Speaker 5: love the pathos. His relationship with with Tia gets really
- 25:24Speaker 5: good at the end. I love when he doesn't know
- 25:28Speaker 5: their names. He goes Larry and he's.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Like, yeah, definitely Larry.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Sure, Yeah, it's it's uh. I think it's a treasure.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I had talked to Bugs for a second last night
- 25:47Speaker 3: before we were gonna do this, But I also didn't
- 25:50Speaker 3: remember how horrible Tia was in the very so mean.
- 25:54Speaker 4: She was so meant to everyone else, like she is
- 25:57Speaker 4: even younger siblings. She was just kind of awful there
- 26:01Speaker 4: in the beginning, but it was it was fun.
- 26:03Speaker 2: She did have to move when she was fifteen.
- 26:05Speaker 5: She was loving charge your mom and dad.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah right right, I love Yeah, But yikes, she was
- 26:15Speaker 3: a mean Nikes. She was Yeah, well hot takes, guys.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I think we'll go to the next one, which I
- 26:23Speaker 4: think will be pretty easy. But let's do our favorite
- 26:25Speaker 4: acting performance, and let's pick the dude.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Dude.
- 26:30Speaker 6: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 26:33Speaker 6: know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
- 26:39Speaker 6: El Dudo reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 26:41Speaker 2: What was your favorite performance?
- 26:44Speaker 5: Dad asking me, sir, Oh, there's no question. As John Candy,
- 26:53Speaker 5: I think we're all in agreement. John Candy. Without John Candy,
- 26:57Speaker 5: the movie is no one I'd ever hear of it.
- 27:03Speaker 5: But because of how he can do funny, he can
- 27:07Speaker 5: do serious if you will and heart, I love it.
- 27:12Speaker 5: I loved his acting.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Absolutely, He's one of my all time faves.
- 27:17Speaker 4: I gushed about him too during our Plane, Streams and
- 27:20Speaker 4: Automobiles episode as well. But yeah, he really got to
- 27:24Speaker 4: shine in this. It's so funny as the guy who
- 27:28Speaker 4: doesn't know how to run a house but is trying,
- 27:30Speaker 4: like really hard just not to mess things up, but
- 27:34Speaker 4: then still does. I love how upbeat he is unless
- 27:40Speaker 4: he doesn't like you, like your bug, or the principle
- 27:44Speaker 4: that he'll definitely let you know or pal. Yeah, god,
- 27:50Speaker 4: what a creeper you look firm.
- 27:56Speaker 2: That line was yucky, Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yoke, but yeah, definitely I will definitely take John Candy
- 28:05Speaker 3: as Buck melanomahead for sure. N nicely does. Yeah, it's
- 28:10Speaker 3: a clean sweep. I was particularly tick. I think you
- 28:13Speaker 3: guys have nailed it right, like he's so funny in
- 28:16Speaker 3: both the big ways in the small ways, but he is,
- 28:18Speaker 3: like he's such a good dramatic actor, and I think
- 28:21Speaker 3: I didn't I didn't realize I think as a kiddo
- 28:25Speaker 3: when I was watching it, or at least I realized
- 28:28Speaker 3: more this time of just how much he's trying to.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Be like Tia, don't just be mad at.
- 28:34Speaker 3: The world and tell everyone to screw off, like I
- 28:37Speaker 3: did that too, and it's not awesome. Like I really
- 28:41Speaker 3: felt like he was trying to be like, you can
- 28:43Speaker 3: be better than me, but also like you know, and
- 28:47Speaker 3: not in a judging way of like you've got nothing
- 28:49Speaker 3: to complain about, but just very much like a I
- 28:52Speaker 3: get it. Life is hard sometimes, but you really got
- 28:56Speaker 3: to push through this because I think it's gonna make
- 28:58Speaker 3: it easier down the line. And I I felt like
- 29:00Speaker 3: he conveyed that so well on this watch through. I
- 29:03Speaker 3: really liked that a lot. And then just he obviously
- 29:06Speaker 3: has such a big heart, like even when he does
- 29:09Speaker 3: lash out of people, it is mostly to protect like
- 29:12Speaker 3: his friends and family, which I think is great, is
- 29:14Speaker 3: so fun and he's just perfect.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I just love that dude. He's the best.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Same Yeah, I really am bummed. We never got to
- 29:21Speaker 3: see him in like.
- 29:22Speaker 2: A hard drama, although I think he did a couple.
- 29:27Speaker 3: I just think I wasn't as familiar.
- 29:29Speaker 4: But yeah, I feel like probably what the most dramatic
- 29:34Speaker 4: thing was probably JFK.
- 29:35Speaker 2: And I never saw that. From what.
- 29:39Speaker 3: It's the perfect storytelling, very historically accurate.
- 29:43Speaker 7: From what I recall, his character was real, uh, kind
- 29:49Speaker 7: of crazy too.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I haven't seen JFK, so I don't know that one.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Who is he playing dad? Do you remember in JFK?
- 29:58Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 29:59Speaker 5: I don't remember remember him being real, real.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Sweaty, and I think he was from I think New
- 30:04Speaker 4: Orleans or something. Had kind of an accent he was
- 30:07Speaker 4: putting on and stuff.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Dean Andrews, Well, it was because the guy that.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Made this thing famous, Garrison, he was from that. From that, Yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 5: he played like a a CD character. Yeah, I didn't.
- 30:29Speaker 5: I didn't care that he was in that. I thought
- 30:33Speaker 5: there was one with Marin O'Hara as his mother where
- 30:36Speaker 5: it's more dramatic.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Than like only the Lonely I think, uh, yeah, yeah, I.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Think that was the only.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know that I ever saw that one.
- 30:46Speaker 5: Actually still had some humor, but more pathos and drama too.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah he's great. He's the dude for sure.
- 30:59Speaker 3: But we're sure.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Well, let's let's talk about the supporting cast, and let's
- 31:02Speaker 2: pick that.
- 31:07Speaker 5: Dad.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Who is your favorite supporting character in this?
- 31:12Speaker 5: M Oh yeah, I know, I thought about it, but
- 31:19Speaker 5: I go between Tea and Mercy Dolgren, But I think
- 31:29Speaker 5: you know, I'm going to give it to uh ms Kobolowski.
- 31:35Speaker 5: I loved her. Amy Madigan did a beautiful job as
- 31:40Speaker 5: his very put upon girlfriend, And yeah, that's who I
- 31:48Speaker 5: would say. I loved her. She wasn't a subtle character.
- 31:52Speaker 5: She wasn't nuanced at all. She was trying to get
- 31:57Speaker 5: this near new well to see life her way. She
- 32:01Speaker 5: was a business owner who needed help at her shop,
- 32:05Speaker 5: and Buck just keep putting her off. Well, you give
- 32:08Speaker 5: it a few weeks and maybe my hire someone part
- 32:12Speaker 5: time or whatever, and in a couple of weeks I'll
- 32:15Speaker 5: get back to you. And she lost it on loads
- 32:18Speaker 5: on him and gobs of dial.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I feel like she was more the Midwestern passive aggressive Yeah,
- 32:28Speaker 3: I have to go now, bye bye, you know, just
- 32:31Speaker 3: like bye bye, okay, honey.
- 32:36Speaker 5: One of her best scenes is at the door. It's
- 32:38Speaker 5: so good when she goes to babysit the kid, I'm
- 32:44Speaker 5: here to watch you.
- 32:47Speaker 2: She's got that.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Is she from Chicago because she's got that thick that's
- 32:51Speaker 4: a good question. Midwestern accent it is. I noticed it
- 32:56Speaker 4: a lot in Field of Dreams as.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Well, where she fun fact she's married to Ed Harris.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I did not kiel that. He just blew my mind.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Either that she is from Chicago.
- 33:11Speaker 2: She's got the Chicago accent.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Hardcore, Yeah, she nails that for sure. But I also
- 33:17Speaker 3: love that she's got kind of that when she's trying
- 33:20Speaker 3: to be nice, she's like she's just like, shut the
- 33:23Speaker 3: hell up and.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Do what I'm telling you know, Like she's got that
- 33:26Speaker 2: little bit of gruffness.
- 33:27Speaker 5: When when Larry goes put your license through the door, Jarry,
- 33:36Speaker 5: she's biting off her gloves. I just thought she did
- 33:41Speaker 5: a beautiful job. Wasn't in it a ton, but enough
- 33:46Speaker 5: to make me really enjoy her.
- 33:49Speaker 2: That's great. Yeah, I.
- 33:53Speaker 4: When I think of this movie, I think of John
- 33:55Speaker 4: Candy and Macaulay Culkin. So I gotta take mcaullay there.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Larry slash Miles, that kid, he was like, he's still
- 34:07Speaker 4: like Mount Rushmore kid actor, just.
- 34:09Speaker 3: The cutest and the funniest kid around. It's so awesome.
- 34:12Speaker 3: It was amazing, love it.
- 34:15Speaker 2: He's so funny as like a five year old kid. Yeah,
- 34:19Speaker 2: I don't get it.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Trying to learn a trade here chicken, Yeah great, I'm
- 34:24Speaker 5: an American, I have right, It's like, where'd you getting
- 34:28Speaker 5: this stuff?
- 34:29Speaker 2: Amazing? And he even see it like he was young
- 34:31Speaker 2: obviously during home along, but he seems even younger in this,
- 34:35Speaker 2: like yeah, well yeah it was the next year, right, like.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Even more time was between him or something, because it's like, yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 3: like even when he first comes in the kitchen and
- 34:44Speaker 3: bucks there and he's like, who are you? You know,
- 34:47Speaker 3: like all that stuff, it just felt he's yeah, it
- 34:51Speaker 3: was so funny.
- 34:52Speaker 2: He's just so great's cooking our garden?
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 34:57Speaker 2: Best? Who did you have?
- 34:59Speaker 3: You?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Well?
- 35:00Speaker 3: I had all those folks. I will give a shard
- 35:03Speaker 3: a shout out to Marcy Dolgrean Frost. Uh, like you said, Fred,
- 35:08Speaker 3: she's hysterical, Yeah, Lauria Mcca, she's hysterical in this, And
- 35:13Speaker 3: I like almost forgot she was in it until she said, well,
- 35:17Speaker 3: I can't ask the neighbor next door, And I was like, oh,
- 35:20Speaker 3: that's right. It's Mercy and she's just yeah, she's so funny.
- 35:25Speaker 3: She's obviously like lonely and just looking for someone to
- 35:29Speaker 3: hang out with and all the things. But man, she's great.
- 35:34Speaker 3: She's cracking me up.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Like she's waiting for the ups.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Express express Man.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Okay, So I loved her, And also I loved Gabby
- 35:50Speaker 3: Hoffman too. She does less than miles right than Macaulay Culkin,
- 35:56Speaker 3: but she's she was so cute and so sweet.
- 35:59Speaker 2: And like perfect. I don't know.
- 36:03Speaker 3: It was so fun and a very believable like slightly
- 36:06Speaker 3: quieter but also cute. You know, that's how siblings sometimes work, right,
- 36:10Speaker 3: if you have a mcaulay Culkin, you're gonna have someone
- 36:12Speaker 3: that's a little more chill.
- 36:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 36:14Speaker 3: It doesn't need all the oxygen or whatever. But yeah,
- 36:18Speaker 3: I just thought she was great.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I liked her a lot. She was those Kin actors
- 36:21Speaker 2: are amazing, really.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Good, and they continued, Yeah, they're really great.
- 36:27Speaker 4: And one thing I always thought was amazing was Pooter.
- 36:30Speaker 4: The clown is Mike Star.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I have no idea. We all know from Dumb and
- 36:38Speaker 2: Dumber as the guy who's.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Coming to the gas man, gas Man.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Why do they know I got gas. Did you know
- 36:47Speaker 2: he was that? I knew it, I mean obviously or whatever.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I did know that because I had no idea,
- 36:56Speaker 3: and I even after watching it, didn't know. And then
- 36:59Speaker 3: I was like, I wonder who Pooter is and looked
- 37:01Speaker 3: it up and I was like what, And I went
- 37:03Speaker 3: back and looked at it, and I still was like,
- 37:06Speaker 3: I guess I can kind of tell, but man, it's
- 37:09Speaker 3: hard to tell.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I mean, we definitely knew him a few years later,
- 37:14Speaker 4: but yeah, I mean it's hard to tell.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Under Clown. I love it though, But that voice, that voice, Yeah,
- 37:20Speaker 2: the voice was like, oh okay, yep, got it. Yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 2: I thought that was wild. That was wild. I didn't really.
- 37:28Speaker 4: I haven't seen most of the other folks again, the
- 37:32Speaker 4: Dad Garrett and Brown. I've seen him in other things,
- 37:35Speaker 4: but always just little bit parts you know.
- 37:39Speaker 5: You get in your mouth.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I like I thought that.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Dennis Cockrum as Pal and Jay Underwood as Bug were
- 37:51Speaker 4: both great in their horrible.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Rules perfect dirt bags. Yeah, differing levels of dirt bag,
- 37:59Speaker 3: I guess, but for sure bags.
- 38:01Speaker 4: And I've definitely seen Pal in some stuff. He's been
- 38:04Speaker 4: around the kind of guy. Yeah, I agree.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Also did you notice I did not. I only noticed
- 38:10Speaker 3: this because of trivia. I don't want to take credit,
- 38:13Speaker 3: but Anna Chlumsky is one of the kids in in
- 38:18Speaker 3: Gabby's class, Yeah, which I didn't know, but I went
- 38:21Speaker 3: and looked at that. Anna Chalmsky went on to do
- 38:24Speaker 3: My Girl, and she's been in Deep more recently now
- 38:28Speaker 3: she's phenomenal, but yeah, she's just one of the little
- 38:31Speaker 3: kids in there, and I was like, in there, so
- 38:34Speaker 3: it has to be the scene where she's talking about
- 38:36Speaker 3: how he's microwave, the weird blasphemer scene that I don't
- 38:41Speaker 3: remember at all.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I do, I don't always thought it was the weirdest cut.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's like a public weirdo, Like if it
- 38:54Speaker 3: was a Catholic school or something, maybe that would have
- 38:56Speaker 3: made slightly I.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Don't know the ruler.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it was interesting, that was weird.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I was like, what it super weird, super short at least,
- 39:05Speaker 3: I guess whatever.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, how do we get out of this scene?
- 39:10Speaker 3: Because we think it's funny what she's saying, but how
- 39:14Speaker 3: do we get blastphemale?
- 39:17Speaker 4: So yeah, I changed my I changed my two. I'm
- 39:20Speaker 4: going to give it to the Blastphemer Love love that guy.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Oh yeah, he was good.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Right, All right, Well, let's we've been talking about a
- 39:30Speaker 3: lot of these fun scenes.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Why don't we pick.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Our favorite, and let's choose the Dingus dingus.
- 39:37Speaker 2: So dinas is quite simple, really Ingus Dingus.
- 39:41Speaker 4: I could talk about my dingus all night long. Dad,
- 39:44Speaker 4: If you had to pick one scene to be your
- 39:47Speaker 4: favorite out of Uncle Buck, what is it?
- 39:53Speaker 5: The music is perfect. John Candy box in with his
- 39:58Speaker 5: Fedora's cigar in his moum into the elementary school. Yes,
- 40:06Speaker 5: and he walks in. He's noticed, he draws in, he goes,
- 40:11Speaker 5: I'm in school, opens the boys room and smoke and
- 40:17Speaker 5: he wants to throw away his butt. He leans over
- 40:21Speaker 5: and there's all these feet dangling from the doors, and
- 40:26Speaker 5: so he puts it down the sink, but the year
- 40:30Speaker 5: and all makes it look like And then he gets
- 40:37Speaker 5: to the principal's office and I love when he says
- 40:40Speaker 5: to the little boy, you wait here, I'll take And
- 40:47Speaker 5: then she is just horrible and he at first he's
- 40:53Speaker 5: very like he's five years old, and then he unloaded
- 40:59Speaker 5: not very nice but dried up old skegs like you, yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 5: here's a corridor, I mean, yeah, that's a lot machine
- 41:09Speaker 5: front to back, and then he walked back out with
- 41:12Speaker 5: this for the door on and does the arm you know,
- 41:16Speaker 5: the arm thing. And then you see him in silhouette
- 41:20Speaker 5: lighting another cigar.
- 41:22Speaker 2: And then going the wrong way right.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Talk about stay in character even after you're out of
- 41:28Speaker 5: the scene. Really beautiful. My favorite thing.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Not even close. It's my number one. And I seriously
- 41:37Speaker 4: wrote down the all of that so that I agree
- 41:40Speaker 4: with you. I will I would definitely pick that as
- 41:42Speaker 4: my number one.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Man, and that it's tough because I love a lot
- 41:50Speaker 3: of scenes. I'll just pick you just pick the other
- 41:53Speaker 3: one that I think of first, aside from.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Uh, the principle is are those flapjacks? The flapjacks are
- 42:03Speaker 2: so fun. Flipping that with the huge shovel is amazing.
- 42:10Speaker 3: And then you know, having Pooter the clown show up
- 42:14Speaker 3: in him.
- 42:16Speaker 5: The toast was so big I couldn't get it through
- 42:18Speaker 5: the door.
- 42:20Speaker 2: You should love the toast. Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I also love that he like the birthday is mentioned
- 42:25Speaker 3: and then not mentioned again, but he comes through so
- 42:28Speaker 3: big for the birthday, Like it's so much.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I love that so much.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Like the kid obviously loves it, you know, just all
- 42:35Speaker 3: the it's nothing too crazy, but it's perfect.
- 42:38Speaker 2: I love that. Agreed, I agreed, I love that.
- 42:42Speaker 6: Ah.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Those were the two scenes I had. I had the
- 42:45Speaker 3: principal thing for sure. When she's just like she's a
- 42:49Speaker 3: silly heart, it was like, what's wrong with you, lady?
- 42:54Speaker 4: Yeah right, it's funny because she really reminded me of
- 42:57Speaker 4: my second grade.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Teacher, really had a silly heart. No, but it was
- 43:04Speaker 2: a tough year, yeah it was. It wasn't great for
- 43:08Speaker 2: me either.
- 43:10Speaker 4: I couldn't write very like I had to get one
- 43:13Speaker 4: of those things on my pencil.
- 43:15Speaker 3: To make it chunkier.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it was just I was putting my fingers
- 43:21Speaker 4: in the wrong spot.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I know what you're saying.
- 43:27Speaker 4: And because my penmanship was horrible, and to be fair,
- 43:31Speaker 4: it still is.
- 43:33Speaker 2: So she she had she was right about that, but
- 43:38Speaker 2: she still just was very nice. Yeah that's funny. Yeah
- 43:42Speaker 2: I got it.
- 43:44Speaker 3: But yeah, that and then he's just like, she's only six.
- 43:48Speaker 3: That everything he said so so good. I also loved
- 43:53Speaker 3: h just that first time Whizzy Buck come in or
- 43:57Speaker 3: come up to the house across the street, just so perfect.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Bob is looking for me.
- 44:04Speaker 3: It's not our house, white houses, there are is like
- 44:08Speaker 3: keep it down.
- 44:09Speaker 2: What yeah, just what.
- 44:13Speaker 5: In the background, it's like when the cats screaming outside,
- 44:20Speaker 5: goes out in his rob and why don't you let
- 44:23Speaker 5: the cat out? And they go, we.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Don't have a cat here.
- 44:28Speaker 5: That just simple.
- 44:30Speaker 3: But even even before him getting to the house, just
- 44:34Speaker 3: like calling him waking up, waking up in the middle
- 44:36Speaker 3: of the night, him like hacking up along the cat.
- 44:42Speaker 5: The can of peanuts falls to the.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Floor, the clapper then turning on looked like Wrigley Field.
- 44:52Speaker 5: That was pretty good.
- 44:54Speaker 4: And then him just getting ready and the bowling ball
- 44:56Speaker 4: going on the head, and yeah, I.
- 44:58Speaker 5: Agree, Fred Flinchstone. That came right from Fred Flintstone cartoon.
- 45:06Speaker 2: That was fun.
- 45:08Speaker 4: The only other thing I said was just any of
- 45:10Speaker 4: the bugs scenes interacting with that's awesome. Yes, all of
- 45:16Speaker 4: them were gold. I love how much he hated bug.
- 45:20Speaker 3: God, he hated bug.
- 45:21Speaker 5: What's his last name?
- 45:25Speaker 2: We're getting a lot of these quotes that.
- 45:28Speaker 4: U but yeah, those were the honestly, those were the
- 45:32Speaker 4: ones that I put down.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Anybody else write any other runner ups, Those were my
- 45:38Speaker 3: main ones.
- 45:40Speaker 4: The scene at the party I liked when he's just
- 45:43Speaker 4: walking through the party.
- 45:45Speaker 5: I just like the his walk through the crowd took
- 45:48Speaker 5: his hat and he's got a little and then he
- 45:53Speaker 5: ends up with a beer. But walking through this party,
- 45:57Speaker 5: does your mother know you do that?
- 46:00Speaker 2: It's so good?
- 46:02Speaker 5: Just I like that.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it was fun.
- 46:04Speaker 3: That was all improv to I assume right, like.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Has to be.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he's like nice moves. I'll see you on
- 46:12Speaker 3: Dick Clark or something. It was like, that's amazing.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Who is the grassroots? He goes, no, no, I know.
- 46:23Speaker 3: And then it ends with with the drill you know
- 46:26Speaker 3: see that in the shadows.
- 46:28Speaker 2: That's so great.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Love that, that's great. But I think we can all agree. Yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 4: it was for sure.
- 46:35Speaker 2: The assistant the principle scene nice.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Well, we said a lot of them already, not all.
- 46:42Speaker 4: Let's say some more quotes and show.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Me the money, show me the money, show me.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Dad. Did you write down any quotes? I know we've
- 46:57Speaker 2: said a bunch.
- 47:00Speaker 5: That all the quotes, every quote in the Principal's office
- 47:04Speaker 5: is a jewel. Yes, yeah, I mean I'm only Russell's word.
- 47:10Speaker 5: I'm her tumor. There is Old Buck Melanova.
- 47:14Speaker 2: It's Old Melanova Head.
- 47:16Speaker 5: They call me Old Melanova Head. That's one of my
- 47:22Speaker 5: favorites because at that point a third of the way
- 47:26Speaker 5: into the quote, I'm crying. I'm laughing so hard the
- 47:30Speaker 5: first time I saw this, So yeah, that's my favorite.
- 47:35Speaker 4: In the one that I heard you say a lot
- 47:38Speaker 4: was him talking to Bug and ask him if he'd
- 47:43Speaker 4: ever heard of a ritual killing, because you would always
- 47:45Speaker 4: do that and the laugh, yeah, laugh.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Just kills me.
- 47:49Speaker 5: Yeah. If you not on her face like that in
- 47:54Speaker 5: public again, you'll be one.
- 47:58Speaker 2: He said that one. He said a lot when I
- 48:01Speaker 2: was growing up. Have they met, twiddled? His name is
- 48:05Speaker 2: Bug first or last first? What's his last name?
- 48:07Speaker 3: Spray said that one already, which is pretty great.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you said the.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Molly Russell's warts wart.
- 48:22Speaker 2: I'm certain not her wart, not her wart. I'm the wart.
- 48:26Speaker 3: She's my tumor, my my growth, my my pimple. I'm
- 48:31Speaker 3: uncle Wart. Just hold buck Wart Russell, that's what they
- 48:34Speaker 3: call me. Or melanoma ahead. They call me that melanomahead's coming.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Just love that.
- 48:40Speaker 3: He ends it with uncle May Russell's uncle.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Yeah gets back.
- 48:45Speaker 3: It's like I'm back.
- 48:46Speaker 2: I'm back. I couldn't help it.
- 48:49Speaker 4: But yes, take this quarter, go downtown and have a
- 48:53Speaker 4: rat gnaw that thing. Good day to you, madam is
- 48:59Speaker 4: so good. It is incredible. Why I haven't known to
- 49:06Speaker 4: circumcise a gnat? You're not a gnat?
- 49:08Speaker 2: Are you? Bug?
- 49:09Speaker 4: Wait a minute, nat, is there a little similarity? Well,
- 49:15Speaker 4: I think there is so good.
- 49:18Speaker 2: He's so creepy with bug. I love it. You can
- 49:23Speaker 2: say some pigs.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Oh, I mean all the ones you guys have said,
- 49:29Speaker 3: for sure. But another one I say from this movie
- 49:32Speaker 3: all the time is just the bit the just if
- 49:35Speaker 3: I could.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Just but if you could, if you just let me,
- 49:37Speaker 2: but if you just give me, if I could, but
- 49:42Speaker 2: if I could.
- 49:43Speaker 3: But that cracked me up as a more than anything. Yeah,
- 49:49Speaker 3: and it comes up all the time. I love that
- 49:52Speaker 3: line so much. That little bit so so good. I
- 49:55Speaker 3: love it.
- 49:56Speaker 2: It is so good.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Well, if you want to hear the pet little feet,
- 50:00Speaker 5: let's buy a piece of sheep metaled up some nice.
- 50:05Speaker 2: That is good, so good? Uh.
- 50:08Speaker 3: The I love the when he comes and meets his
- 50:11Speaker 3: brother and he's like, how Cindy not well?
- 50:14Speaker 2: Not well? Yeah, and how's your dad? Hard to say?
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh medical term?
- 50:18Speaker 3: Huh?
- 50:18Speaker 2: What is it an unfarction? Or yeah?
- 50:21Speaker 4: I never caught that either, lockhead so much. It's amazing.
- 50:27Speaker 3: He's like hard, Yeah, so so good. When he's just like,
- 50:36Speaker 3: do you have a plunger here? Well, I'm thinking of
- 50:38Speaker 3: these things. And then he's like, I'm all bound up.
- 50:41Speaker 3: It's just I don't know. I just can't get enough cheese.
- 50:44Speaker 3: I feel like a big mouse.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Yeah, the cheese, like a big most.
- 50:51Speaker 2: She already hates him so much. God, it's so funny.
- 50:55Speaker 2: I love it.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Uh, this probably could have gone and seen. But when
- 50:59Speaker 3: Miles is just like interrogating.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Him, it's just like, so good.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Do you live in the city? You have a house,
- 51:05Speaker 3: apartment owner, rent?
- 51:06Speaker 2: Rent?
- 51:07Speaker 3: What do you do for a living? Lots of things?
- 51:08Speaker 3: Where's your office? I don't have one? How Come I
- 51:10Speaker 3: don't need one? Where's your wife? I don't have one?
- 51:12Speaker 3: How Come it's a long story. You have kids?
- 51:14Speaker 2: No?
- 51:14Speaker 3: I don't. How come it's an even longer story. Are
- 51:17Speaker 3: you my dad's brother? What's your record for consecutive questions?
- 51:20Speaker 2: Asked? Thirty eight? I'm your dad's brother, all right.
- 51:23Speaker 3: And then there's much more hair in your nose than yes.
- 51:26Speaker 3: He's like, nice of you to notice. I'm a kid,
- 51:29Speaker 3: kid job. Yeah?
- 51:32Speaker 2: I just love that. Whole thing is.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Just so great, like just rapid fire being silly.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Yep, I love it, agreed.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Uh yeah, what other ones you guys got?
- 51:44Speaker 2: I have a few still.
- 51:46Speaker 4: I had mentioned it in a previous pod, but I
- 51:49Speaker 4: always thought the their dog's a ball sniffer.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Yes, yes, don't talk like that. Mister Neville yelled at
- 51:56Speaker 2: Michael Larson because their dog was sniffing Michael's balls.
- 52:02Speaker 5: What's another word for balls? Away?
- 52:06Speaker 2: And he goes you hear the snap. He's so proud too.
- 52:10Speaker 2: I love it. Oh, it's so good.
- 52:13Speaker 4: When he leaves the voicemail for Shenise, he's like, and
- 52:16Speaker 4: then there was your boobs we did now your boobs
- 52:19Speaker 4: were Minnie and Mickey. I remember that because of Disney
- 52:21Speaker 4: World and Felix. Felix is what we called him in here.
- 52:28Speaker 4: So you catch that eight years old either, Oh, it's amazing.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Oh god, it's so funny. Also the line he says.
- 52:38Speaker 5: Oh I let you, I let you see it. As
- 52:42Speaker 5: a kid, Rob, you wrote a crib. That's probably why
- 52:46Speaker 5: you didn't get that.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I was just a little kid.
- 52:49Speaker 3: I was like, well, I know melon nor my head, No,
- 52:51Speaker 3: my head.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Oh.
- 52:57Speaker 4: One thing that made me laugh really hard that I
- 52:59Speaker 4: didn't to think was funny when I was a kid,
- 53:03Speaker 4: When Miles and Maisie are watching Tia make out with
- 53:06Speaker 4: their boyfriend, and Miles is just like, that's a pretty
- 53:09Speaker 4: stupid thing to do during flu season.
- 53:11Speaker 5: So much, very good.
- 53:21Speaker 3: I bet she's getting.
- 53:25Speaker 5: They're doing.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I love that. Do you think she hates me with
- 53:32Speaker 2: a passion? Really? Do you think it's the hat?
- 53:35Speaker 3: No?
- 53:36Speaker 2: No, A lot of people hate this hat. It angers
- 53:38Speaker 2: a lot of people just the sight of it. I'll
- 53:41Speaker 2: tell you a story about that on the way to school.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and I bet most of that was just improving. Yeah,
- 53:50Speaker 3: for sure. I also love after So he's like listening
- 53:55Speaker 3: in on them at the dinner table, Shenis and Tia.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Yeah, like, obviously if I doubt that he's.
- 54:03Speaker 3: Put her up to it and all the things, she
- 54:05Speaker 3: kicks the door and misses him and then kicks and
- 54:07Speaker 3: hits him. But anyway, after he gets up and he's like,
- 54:11Speaker 3: by the way, I have told you I loved you.
- 54:13Speaker 3: And it wasn't for tires, it was for shocks, remember,
- 54:16Speaker 3: it was for Yeah, I loved that. Like that is
- 54:20Speaker 3: the line right before that. My dad has said so
- 54:22Speaker 3: many times.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Hi, honey, is the coffee ready little Thursday thirsty? So good?
- 54:32Speaker 5: Oh?
- 54:32Speaker 3: I love that, so so good. I also love the
- 54:36Speaker 3: like at the very end, she's just she niece is
- 54:39Speaker 3: just talking their ear off, you know, like it's just
- 54:42Speaker 3: excited and happy, and he's like, we're going home. We're
- 54:45Speaker 3: not dying.
- 54:48Speaker 5: Either. I think in this movie you were talking about
- 54:52Speaker 5: age appropriate and us bugs and I'm thinking either seven
- 54:57Speaker 5: or eight or sure out because Pooka goes, hey, you
- 55:02Speaker 5: want to hear any dildo jokes? Yeah, I know.
- 55:09Speaker 3: It's almost like you get you get to enjoy it
- 55:12Speaker 3: a different way later, although nowadays I don't know those
- 55:17Speaker 3: seven and eight year olds they know some stuff.
- 55:22Speaker 5: I suppose I'm aging myself. But when I was a kid,
- 55:26Speaker 5: I had no clue and a lot of those around.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I didn't even get the like we
- 55:33Speaker 3: said the watcher thing, and I know, it's like, there's
- 55:38Speaker 3: no way I knew that.
- 55:42Speaker 2: So funny.
- 55:42Speaker 5: Oh I was am I going to have to crow?
- 55:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 55:45Speaker 4: I was kind of shocked watching it this time, just
- 55:48Speaker 4: just like how far that went over my I could
- 55:52Speaker 4: not believe that's.
- 55:53Speaker 3: So funny we said it earlier, but it's one of
- 55:55Speaker 3: the great lines that like, I hope you're hungry.
- 55:58Speaker 2: You should see the toast did even get it through
- 56:00Speaker 2: the door.
- 56:02Speaker 3: I love the way he says that great and he's
- 56:05Speaker 3: so excited about it. He's very proud of himself in
- 56:08Speaker 3: that moment when he was the best.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Oh bad. Yeah. I think that was all the ones
- 56:15Speaker 2: I wrote down though, pretty much. Yeah, that was a
- 56:18Speaker 2: lot of them.
- 56:19Speaker 3: Well let's let's keep moving along. Let's do the crying.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Game bugs boohoo the moments.
- 56:26Speaker 5: Strong men also cry. Strong men also cry.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Strong men also.
- 56:36Speaker 3: I picked I picked four, but one of them I
- 56:41Speaker 3: feel like might just be a leftover from a previous tire.
- 56:50Speaker 2: The first one and the first one is is iffy.
- 56:53Speaker 4: The first one I said is maybe when he calls
- 56:55Speaker 4: Shenise for help with the kids and she says she'll
- 56:59Speaker 4: do it because are involved, but they are over yeah,
- 57:02Speaker 4: and he's like, for what it's worth, I'm sorry.
- 57:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I loved that. That was so great. And again,
- 57:07Speaker 3: like I really respect that he doesn't. It's not like
- 57:12Speaker 3: like he does. It's not like he's not sticking up
- 57:14Speaker 3: for himself or anything like that. But he never argues like,
- 57:17Speaker 3: you're right, I'm not a very good boyfriend or like
- 57:20Speaker 3: guy sometimes and he's just kind of like, yeah, you're
- 57:23Speaker 3: right and takes responsibility for that almost. I think that's great,
- 57:27Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, but yes, I.
- 57:29Speaker 4: Love that when he picks Tea up after the party
- 57:34Speaker 4: scene and they have their heart.
- 57:37Speaker 2: To heart, yes, so much like I don't need to
- 57:39Speaker 2: talk about it. I just want to get home, you know. Well, yeah,
- 57:42Speaker 2: I love it. Right when Tea and her mom hug
- 57:46Speaker 2: at the end, Oh my god. Yeah a percent.
- 57:49Speaker 4: And now this is where I feel like you could
- 57:51Speaker 4: have just been like one cry session. But then I
- 57:55Speaker 4: kind of got choked up just with the the smile
- 58:00Speaker 4: and the freeze frame with the way one.
- 58:05Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I did sort of just count that all
- 58:08Speaker 3: as one.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Kind of the same with the Tea. Yeah, it's just.
- 58:12Speaker 3: Kind of like the the epilogue right, like it was
- 58:15Speaker 3: just you know, the little addendum there. But I loved it,
- 58:19Speaker 3: Don't get me wrong.
- 58:20Speaker 5: I think this got made app well a lot worse
- 58:25Speaker 5: after for sure. Yeah, first time I saw it after
- 58:29Speaker 5: your Path that made me.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Ugly.
- 58:33Speaker 5: Crap.
- 58:34Speaker 3: Don't they also use that shot in planes, trains, and automobiles.
- 58:37Speaker 3: I feel like we've heard that before. Mm hmm.
- 58:40Speaker 2: It's like it's very similar.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Always yeah, okay, nice, oh.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Very very similar for sure. I love that he's just
- 58:48Speaker 2: got his little mustache. Del Yeah, it's good. But were
- 58:54Speaker 2: there any other bahoos that I missed?
- 58:57Speaker 3: There were? Yeah, uh so one that got me. And
- 59:01Speaker 3: I don't know if it's just getting older, but just
- 59:03Speaker 3: the the middle of the night phone call. I don't
- 59:06Speaker 3: think about as much anymore now that we have cell phones, maybe,
- 59:10Speaker 3: but such a terrible thing and such like a relatable thing.
- 59:14Speaker 3: I feel like, you know, the bad news in the
- 59:15Speaker 3: middle of.
- 59:16Speaker 2: The night stuff got me. And then the wedding pick.
- 59:21Speaker 3: I forgot about the wedding pick and that that was sad.
- 59:27Speaker 3: I didn't like it.
- 59:28Speaker 2: I didn't like that.
- 59:29Speaker 3: Maybe made me cheer up a little bit because you
- 59:31Speaker 3: could tell he's really hurt by it too, right like,
- 59:34Speaker 3: and he's kind of like, what did I do?
- 59:36Speaker 2: You know?
- 59:37Speaker 3: I mean, I know I'm not perfect, but yeah, kind
- 59:41Speaker 3: of crazy.
- 59:43Speaker 8: But it was just those just those six six, no five,
- 59:49Speaker 8: Oh yeah, yeah, close, it was close.
- 59:54Speaker 2: We'll just say you nailed it. You nailed it.
- 59:57Speaker 3: Let's go ahead and do a little movie trivia now.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Despite their characters not getting along for the majority of
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: the film, off camera, Jean Luisa Kelly got along very
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: well with John Candy and said she was honored to
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: work with someone she considered to be a legend, and
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: that just made me feel better knowing that they got along.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: So I wanted to say.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Because she was good. Man, she was really good.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I think she shot her out, but yeah, she was
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: super good at being angsty. And yeah, I don't even
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: think we mentioned her and I didn't do to not
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: do that. I think she's great and she's been in
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: a number of things since that have been really good too.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: She was on that sick that was pretty funny.
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think so, or maybe that was I
- 1:00:42Speaker 7: might have gotten that screwed up, but anyway, but yeah,
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: she had the biggest character arc.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: YEA like a lot for sure, and she was great.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: And this was her first movie, I think if I
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: remember reading right, it's pretty crazy. So her.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: I always loved her in Mister Hollando. Yes, yes, as Rowena.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: That's where I knew her from that Rowena's song.
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: The Girl Who Comes Sum.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, she's great.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I really liked her in this.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: This was fun. One night during filming, John Candy went
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: to a bar with the music supervisor Tarkan Gouch and
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: spent most of the night there meeting people. The next day,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: John Hughes heard a collar on a radio talk show
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: excitedly describe his evening with Candy. Hughes was upset with Candy,
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: and despite Candy's assertion that Buck was supposed to appear disheveled,
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: he canceled his scenes for the day and told them
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: to get himself together and get some sleep. So he
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: went full Uncle Buck on it and went out and
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: partied the night before he was supposed to.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Sounds like he was pretty good at that.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a party, Yeah for sure. Almost every set
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: was built in a local high school gymnasium, including the
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: two story Russell House.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: And I thought that was wild.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy good soundstages, I guess, probably a lot cheaper.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Very easy to control too. I suppose right, you don't
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: gonna worry about a bunch of other stuff.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: The folly that they used for the backfiring of bucks
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: car was a combination of a gunshot and a firecracker,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: and it's it's that bit is funny.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: The entire movie, the entire so good.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: I am kind of mad that I didn't pick it
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: as the two.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Cheet now good car. Yeah, his car, that car was amazing.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Brand Marquee or whatever neck car car. Yeah, the Mercury Marquis. Yeah.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Oh so funny, so funny, just no shocks in it whatsoever.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: He's going like twelve miles an hour down the freeway
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: just like bump.
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: Like when he pulls out, he moves his bud. He
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: pulls out a wrench and throws it on the.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Floor right a second. So funny.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: Apparently it was originally intended to be shot in the
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: Saint Louis area rather than Hughes's traditional Chicago, but as
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: filming was about to begin, they made the decision to
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: move it to Chicago because in the winter of eighty
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: eight it was unseasonably warm in Saint Louis. So interesting,
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: I guess.
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: It was a warm He's in Chicago a lot.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he loved Chicago, loves it.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: This is the highest grossing film outside of Home Alone
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: or outside of the Home Alone franchise to feature McCauley Culkin.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Both this film and the first three Home Alone films
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: were all written and produced also by John Hughes. So
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: I just thought that was fun to.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Have in there. Let's see. When casting the role of
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Kevin McAllister in Home Alone, Christopher Columbus had already. He'd
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: already seen mcaulay, Culkin and Uncle Buck obviously.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: But he wanted to audition some other kids first, even
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: though he kind of already had his heart set on
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: Culkin apparently. So Columbus met Culkin in New York and
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: was very charmed by him and thought he was just fantastic.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: He audition five other kids and none of them shaped
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: up to Culkin, and then he went with Colkin ultimately
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: because he just he just had an instant bond to
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: the kids in the audience and he thought he was
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: just immensely funny. And I think that proved true. Nailed it, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: I think that was it.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: There wasn't a toll.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: I didn't have a lot, Yeah, there was no.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: There was a lot of like part stuff which I'm
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: sure you grabbed, but yep, that was kind of it.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: Well, first I saw that and it was kind of fun.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: We already talked about Field of Dreams. But Gaby Hoffman
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: plays Amy Madigan's doctor, which is fun. So they just
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: uh and they both came out in eighty nine. Yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: that's crazy for that, Yeah, just interesting. Winona Ryder was
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: the first choice for the role of Tia after John
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Hughes had seen her and beat Juice, but Rider turned
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: it down as she was busy working on Heathers, which
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: I had never seen.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Neither.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: John Goodman was considered for the role of Uncle Buck.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: He would later go on to.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: Play Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones, a role for which
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: John Candy was also.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Up for, but his uh, he died before it could happen.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: So I feel like Goodman could have done it for sure,
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: for sure, and Candy could have been in The Flintstones
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: easily too.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: I feel like ye and John Candy could have been
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: King Ralph and they could.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Have just had a very flipsy flapsy career. For sure.
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Would have been fun to see Candy and Cloverfield Lane.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: Different. He could have done it, he could do everything.
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: I'd be waiting for something funny.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: I don't think of Yeah, it might not work.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: I I stare you know what what they stereotyped his roles.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: I couldn't have taken that sure at all. Yeah, we're
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: good Man, I thought was so.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he was incredible, that he's good Man.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: Yeah, there are a lot of people who are like
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: considered for Uncle Buck.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Right, and but I mean, I don't know. I think
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: it's worth naming.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: You can consider a ton of people, but whoever like
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: turns it down. But Rick moranis he did turn down
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: the role of his brother Bob.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a bummer. That would been kind of a fun,
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: little fun repartee and he had to do much.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: But you know, what can he do?
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: Do we know why he turned it?
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: No?
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I think he was pretty big on turning things down,
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: And yeah he was. He was okay with saying no
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: to some things and has said no a lot in
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: the last thirty years. He did have parents would come
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: out that year, so maybe he was just busy or
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: felt like he'd done a lot, or wanted to be
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: home or want to be with his fam. Clearly his
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: fam was very, very very important for sure. Yep, but
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: that was all I had.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Nice love it.
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: Why don't we move on to Judgment Day?
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: Will there be a sequel? I wish no? There will
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: not be.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Well, Colary now, they they did. They did make two
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: different shows.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: We've talked about that somewhat recently too. That's right.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: There was one right when it came out back in
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: nineteen ninety and a guy named Kevin Meaney was Buck,
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: and they kind of switched it up to where the
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: parents actually passed and he had to take like he had.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: To take care of those kids. That was kind of
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: the plot. But it bombed, It bombed hard.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: And then in twenty sixteen, Mike Epps.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: Was Uncle Buck. They featured an African American cast Nea
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Long was Buck's sister in law. But yeah, it it
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: did not do well either, and it only it was
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: poorly received by critics and then canceled after only eight episodes.
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: Oh oh that's yeah, now that okay.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: So they probably could have made that show and just
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: not called it Uncle Buck. Yeah, you know, just like
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: Uncle Larry or somebody else, you know, like it could
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: have just been a different thing, or not even name
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: it uncle whatever. You can redo it and not name it,
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: and maybe it would have done better.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: I think if they'd have named it the kid's parents
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: are dead, that would have people would have flocked.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: People have thought it was a Disney film, right, seriously,
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: every one of them.
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: No, but they didn't. They didn't cook and eat them
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: like the other not quite the grim We're not talking
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: about Grim's Fairy.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: Right, those are crazy, But yeah, there's not gonna be
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: any more sequels, at least not with John Candy bummer.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: I think that, not that I'm some kind of I
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: think you can't remake movies, but it's gonna have to
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: be when my generation and yours are moved on that
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: you can remake something, because those of us that remember, uh,
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: I mean, I get pissed when Belushi's brother sings with
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: Dan Ackroyd as a blues brother. It doesn't work for me.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: You're not You shouldn't call yourself the blues brother, right.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: I think it's the same way for certain movies and
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: certain actors and actresses.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I get that. Yeah, for sure. It's tough when
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: somebody just completely.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Just crushes a role like John Candy and Uncle Buck, Like,
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: why would you ever want to follow that?
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Well, it's just like you're never gonna be able to
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: catch that magic in the same way again.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: You gotta make your own thing, right, Like right.
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: No, It's like, can you imagine anybody but Jim Carrey
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: playing in Dumb and Dumb?
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: No, even Dumb and Dumber two didn't work.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: I mean, now, Jeff Jeff Daniels role, you could tinker, right,
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: but not?
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, for sure, agreed the probably probably not probably not.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Well, do you guys want to play a game? I
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: made a game.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I love games.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Well, get ready?
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: I made Starting five is what we call it.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: So what I'm gonna do.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: I'm gonna name five my favorite actors from a particular film.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Not always the top build, but usually close to the top.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: And once you know the name of the film that
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I'm referring to, you ring in with your name so
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: that I know who is ringing in, And if there
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: are actors remaining, you can guess who I picked for
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: more points. If you get any of those wrong, the
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: other person can come on in and guess actors four
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: points and kind of steal them from it.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: Too many rules. I had to write all this down.
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: Hold on, no, you're good. Number one was.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: So what else?
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: There's no negative points, but you can only get one
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: guess for each each of the ten.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: How do you raise your hand?
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: No? No, no, you ring in with your name so
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: you'll say fred so that I know practice Okay, so
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: dang it. Yeah no tales, Oh guy, I believe in you.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Also one more rule, it's not really a rule. All
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: of these films have something in common. If if you
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: know what the theme is. You can ring in with
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: your name, So Dad, if you got you'd be like
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: Fred and then you could guess what the theme is.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: M hm. We feel good about it.
