- 0:09>> Speaker A: Welcome, everybody, to an extra special episode
- 0:12of session Zero Heroes, where we are going to be
- 0:14discussing the brand new
- 0:16daggerheart RPG system
- 0:20from the creators of critical role and all
- 0:22the amazing stuff that they do. We now
- 0:25have what is called Daggerheart, which will be, from what
- 0:28I understand, the TTRPG system that they will be
- 0:31using for their future shows. for the most part,
- 0:34so very exciting brand new RPG
- 0:37system by the amazing team over there. we're really excited
- 0:40to kind of dive into it. And we are at a
- 0:43point now where we're allowed to share what we got to see.
- 0:46We got a little bit of, like, early, I don't know, Cameron, what would you call
- 0:49access? Yeah. Okay, thank you. Early
- 0:51access, to get to see.
- 0:53>> Speaker B: It, but we all had to sign.
- 0:54>> Speaker A: NDAs because it was very secretive. so we got
- 0:57to test it out a little bit. But now it is time that we are allowed
- 1:00to share it and share what we find. Let me introduce who's at
- 1:02our table. So to my left, we got Jackson.
- 1:05Jackson is. Or Jack, I don't care.
- 1:09Jackson has been involved with our criminals. Violet Numis,
- 1:12he plays Dez, our beloved Kinku
- 1:15Ranger. To my direct forward,
- 1:18we have Cameron. Cameron. We all know Cameron from a
- 1:20number of projects, whether that be playing as Bill Dor
- 1:23in benders and bruise. He plays as fizzle
- 1:26fingers, aka Roric in the criminals,
- 1:29Violen numis. And he's also run the monster of the week
- 1:32campaign that we did so far. One of them. Music,
- 1:35mayhem. He's run or not run. He's
- 1:38also been in the dilly Dunkers. One shot that we did.
- 1:41So a lot of stuff from Cameron.
- 1:42>> Speaker C: Quit doing stuff.
- 1:44>> Speaker B: That's what I tell Skylar. Save some room for other
- 1:46people.
- 1:47>> Speaker A: He's accessible.
- 1:48>> Speaker B: And then he's like, I tried asking everyone else. They're all
- 1:51busy. And I'm like, you are my last
- 1:54choice.
- 1:56>> Speaker A: His section on the website with the credits is
- 1:59just ever growing into accessible. It's
- 2:02hiding everybody else's stuff. I need to put Cameron's
- 2:05listing at the bottom because it takes up so many
- 2:08scrolls.
- 2:08>> Speaker B: At this point, I think the third campaign is probably
- 2:11going to be dm'd by me.
- 2:14>> Speaker A: That would be pretty dope. Maybe you can run daggerheart.
- 2:17>> Speaker B: Maybe daggerheart campaign. If I find a nice
- 2:20system or something. Or something that falls into.
- 2:23>> Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. And then to my right, last but not
- 2:26least, we got Dave, who you all know as Guohan
- 2:29from benders and brews. And, also
- 2:31maki from criminals. Violent numas.
- 2:34>> Speaker D: Yeah, that's a character.
- 2:37>> Speaker B: Those are both characters.
- 2:40>> Speaker A: Awesome. And today we are going to kind of walk through. So
- 2:43currently what we have so far from the people over at Daggerheart
- 2:45is the character creation process. As of
- 2:48when this episode will be posted, I believe they're releasing
- 2:51the sort of starter rules and everything else. Currently, all
- 2:54we have to work off of is the character creation. So we're
- 2:57going to walk through what the process looks like of creating a character within the
- 3:00Dareheart, RPG. We're going to discuss maybe some of
- 3:03the similarities to other RPGs like Dungeons
- 3:06and dragons. I think that there's kind of like the
- 3:09storytelling element that kind of gets copied over, not
- 3:12copied over, similar sort, of inspired by. From like
- 3:15powered by the apocalypse games. There's a little bit of that in there,
- 3:18and we're going to make characters, so that'll be fun.
- 3:21We don't have a huge amount of knowledge on the full
- 3:23official rules, so there are still a couple of things on the character
- 3:26sheet that we're not 100% sure on how they work, but
- 3:29we'll try to maybe theorize a little bit or just discuss what
- 3:32we might know or what we'll
- 3:35get to find out, I suppose, once the time comes. So,
- 3:38anyways, starting things off, I've got this nice big
- 3:40character creation sort of checklist here that kind of
- 3:43helps walk people through the entire process.
- 3:46So the first step on that process, and you guys have all kind
- 3:49of had a second to look over some of this stuff, but the first thing
- 3:51is choose a class. So
- 3:54there's a whole bunch of classes
- 3:57to choose between, and I can go through those here
- 4:00really quick. very similar to dungeons and
- 4:03dragons classes. So first off, you're going
- 4:06to have your bards. You're talking about, like,
- 4:08performance magicians. Druids are much
- 4:11more nature based magicians, per se, mage
- 4:14classes, if you want to call them that. They can also shapeshift into
- 4:17animals, which is always fun. And that is something that you get
- 4:20in daggerheart. Guardian,
- 4:23Guardian is sort of like your kind of a
- 4:25fighter, paladin kind of cross between
- 4:28the two. So you're going to be high armor, doing
- 4:31some melee attacks, not really magic focus too
- 4:34much, but there's a lot of diversity within the
- 4:37subclasses and abilities that you're going to get with your
- 4:39character, in Daggerheart. So that's not to say
- 4:42that you couldn't do some magic and things along those lines. It's just
- 4:45saying that from a base level, this is kind of what you'd be looking at
- 4:48for this class, then you've got rangers. Rangers are your
- 4:51classic sort of outdoorsy
- 4:53experts, whatever you want to call that. Again,
- 4:57sometimes it's kind of got a magic theme to it. Sometimes it's a
- 5:00little bit more just fighting,
- 5:02rogues, classic rogues. Your thieves, your
- 5:05assassins, even sometimes pirates.
- 5:08All that kind of stuff all kind of factors into
- 5:11rogues. And what you could get out of that. Next up is
- 5:14Seraph. Now, Seraph is a very, different
- 5:17verbiage than any of the d d classes and things along those lines,
- 5:20the official ones, that is. So serifs are kind of like a crossover
- 5:22between somewhere in your paladin
- 5:25cleric range. So they've got kind of this
- 5:28religious connotation to them, m or organization
- 5:31connotation to them, kind, of based around a
- 5:34deity or some God or something like that.
- 5:36Then you got sorcerers, again, very classic, kind of,
- 5:39ah, sort of a natural
- 5:42magic in a sense. Wizards, are out there
- 5:45learning magic through the use of books and things like that.
- 5:47Sorcerers usually have kind of an innate
- 5:50magical capability within them from
- 5:53something. There's a lot of different opportunities or a lot of
- 5:56different reasons why they have it. Warriors,
- 5:58classic, kind of barbarian fighter esque. You're going to be running
- 6:01in there. You're going to be swinging swords, axes, whatever else.
- 6:04And then finally, wizards. Wizards are also
- 6:07very classic. You're going to be your nerdy
- 6:10spell casters is the way I like to look at it,
- 6:13reading up on books and spells and learning new
- 6:16magic and being able to cast it from. So, anyway, that's,
- 6:19that's a lot of me talking and a lot of me going over the
- 6:22classes, but let's look at each person and kind of get a little
- 6:25bit deeper, look into those classes based on what they took. So,
- 6:27Jackson, what do you got?
- 6:29>> Speaker C: I went ahead and, picked up sorcerer just
- 6:32because I'm in the mood for
- 6:35something similar to a warlock. Yeah, figured that
- 6:38sounded pretty similar.
- 6:40>> Speaker A: Awesome. So tell me a little bit about sorcerer. what do you kind
- 6:43of have as far as what's on the character
- 6:45sheets or kind of what is the description that it has for
- 6:48sorcerer, which I think is on the top of the second page there?
- 6:51Yeah.
- 6:51>> Speaker C: well, let's see. The description for sorcerer says, as a
- 6:54sorcerer, you were formed and shaped by the will of the
- 6:57arcana, and you have learned how to wield that
- 7:00power to get what you want.
- 7:01>> Speaker A: Get what you want.
- 7:04>> Speaker C: They have some suggested traits,
- 7:06it seems like, whereas in the DNd five
- 7:09ebook, where it lays out, like, hey, this is a
- 7:12quick way to build this character right there on the character
- 7:15sheet. This has this suggested easy,
- 7:18quick character build, with
- 7:21descriptions of what you could wear, what a typical
- 7:23sorcerer wears, what's typically in their
- 7:26inventory.
- 7:28>> Speaker A: Kind,
- 7:29>> Speaker C: Of in the center of
- 7:31the description page you see questions
- 7:34about your background and your connections, which is
- 7:37great when building a character. Actually, I feel
- 7:40like most of the time when I, am
- 7:43making a character and I play a few
- 7:46sessions of said character, it falls flat
- 7:48because I failed to create a solid background,
- 7:52for my character. And let's see
- 7:55what's down there at the bottom. shows what a
- 7:58sorcerer gains at certain levels.
- 8:00>> Speaker C: level. Do we start at level
- 8:03two?
- 8:03>> Speaker A: So you can start at level one, and then when you get
- 8:06to. So this is kind of something that powered by the apocalypse usually does
- 8:09with their character sheets. So when you level up, they give you
- 8:12options that you can take and you just cross out
- 8:15the little box next to it to say that I took that option. it
- 8:18can be so like reading through some of them that are on your
- 8:21sheet. Permanently add one hit point
- 8:23slot. Permanently add one stress slot,
- 8:26increase your experience by one, so on and so forth. These
- 8:29are going to be permanent, either abilities or
- 8:32stat upgrades or whatever else that are going to kind of
- 8:35strengthen you along the way. they're a little bit more
- 8:37broad. in some power by the apocalypse
- 8:40games, you're going to have specific abilities based on the class that you're
- 8:43playing. And these definitely have that, don't get me wrong.
- 8:46but it's not so much like in DND where you have to go
- 8:49reference the class that you're playing and look through.
- 8:52At level three, you're going to get these and you're also going to get one more
- 8:55spell slot. And you're also going to roll your hit dice and you're going to add,
- 8:58you have a lot of customization options because of the fact
- 9:01that you're not really limited to a specific path. You get
- 9:04to just m mark off, some sort of
- 9:06benefit to your character.
- 9:09>> Speaker C: Yeah. And rather than going back
- 9:12and referencing a book all the time, which is right,
- 9:15it's fine. I really love to have a physical book search
- 9:18through when it comes to DND, but being it
- 9:20just at the bottom of my page, if I forget to
- 9:23take a note, it's already printed at the bottom.
- 9:26>> Speaker A: Exactly. And that's something I really like
- 9:29kind of nice in DND, and I'm not dissing
- 9:32DNd by any means. but in DND, they put
- 9:35such small sections for your features and traits, and
- 9:37between your racial traits and your class traits
- 9:40and subclass traits and your background
- 9:43traits. That's a lot of stuff to try to write m
- 9:46in a little section on one page.
- 9:48>> Speaker C: I know a lot of people are, but I'm not a notebook keeper.
- 9:51>> Speaker A: Right.
- 9:52>> Speaker C: I love to collect notebooks. I've got a ton of
- 9:54empty notebooks that I'm like, this cover was
- 9:57so cool. I'm going to use it for DND, like a little nerd, right?
- 10:00but I don't ever. They're all
- 10:03empty.
- 10:03>> Speaker A: You have every opportunity, just no initiative to
- 10:06do. Dave, you're more of our notetaker guy, and just
- 10:09about everything we play, I feel like you're always the guy that. I mean, I'm
- 10:12looking at your notebook right here at the table.
- 10:14>> Speaker C: I don't see anything in that notebook.
- 10:16>> Speaker A: Oh, that's true. It is blank, right? Ready?
- 10:18>> Speaker B: Visible ink.
- 10:19>> Speaker A: very fantasy, very secret.
- 10:22Mysterious. Awesome. So, okay, cool. That's a great
- 10:24overview. I appreciate it. Of the kind of just the
- 10:27sorcerer. I wanted to mention, since you brought it
- 10:29up, so there are traits just like in d. D. Normally,
- 10:32you'd have your strength, dexterity,
- 10:34intelligence, wisdom, charisma, and
- 10:37constitution. I got them. then, you
- 10:40know, you'd have numbers in there similar to that
- 10:44in daggerheart. You have agility, strength, finesse,
- 10:47instinct, presence, and knowledge. And then under each
- 10:50of those, it kind of gives you those,
- 10:53specific skills that that trait would get
- 10:56rolled for. But the cool thing about it is you don't have to be
- 10:59proficient in specific skills. It's sort of an
- 11:02overarching plus, whatever number that you're. Or minus.
- 11:05I guess if you're not good at it, that applies to those skills.
- 11:08So you're going to roll whenever your DM says, if
- 11:11you're trying to pick a lock, right, your DM is going to look at
- 11:14those skills or the traits, and they're going to see that
- 11:17under, finesse, you've got
- 11:20things like hide, tinker, control, and they would
- 11:22probably say, okay, that sounds like the right
- 11:25trait for picking a lock. So then you would roll your
- 11:28dice on finesse, or add
- 11:30finesse, and then that would be your final roll, essentially.
- 11:33And I think there's a couple of other things that will kind of affect that as
- 11:36well. but whatever case, that's the base. So you had mentioned
- 11:39that on the bottom of your character sheet, or rather,
- 11:42on the second page, it kind of has suggested traits. So
- 11:44everybody's playing off the same traits. You don't roll for your
- 11:47traits, and then one guy has, like,
- 11:50super high, just across the board traits while somebody
- 11:53else just happened to roll low, and they're kind of screwed.
- 11:55Basically, this one, everybody's working off the same set
- 11:58of numbers, which is minus 10,
- 12:00zero plus one plus one plus two.
- 12:03So everybody's going to get that same set of numbers, and they're going to distribute them m among
- 12:06their stats. so, like yours said, it kind of had
- 12:09suggested ones for the sorcerer to kind of help you out as far
- 12:12as kind of just a base concept sorcerer works.
- 12:15But of course, you're not limited to that. You can put them however
- 12:18you want based on what character you are personally
- 12:21trying to create, which I think is really cool.
- 12:23>> Speaker B: I do want to say one thing I find interesting is
- 12:26looking at the six choices, because you have your traditional
- 12:29DND, like strength and charisma. But the
- 12:32big one I'm noticing is instead of charisma, they put presence,
- 12:35which is a thing I've always thought about with DND, because
- 12:38sometimes you meet people that aren't really the
- 12:41most well spoken, but their presence alone
- 12:44is bigger factor. So think of your big, hulking
- 12:47brutes. If they say they want something,
- 12:50they might not say it in the most charming or elegant
- 12:53way, but someone will still do it really quickly
- 12:55because of their presence alone, basically. So
- 12:58I do like that the presence is a little more open because my
- 13:01dream DnD character I always thought of doing is a rogue,
- 13:04but just like, it's a Goliath rogue who literally
- 13:07just is like, give me your money now.
- 13:11That's how they steal, because they're part of the thief guild, but instead of,
- 13:14like, pick poggety meal, they literally just are,
- 13:17give me your money or I'll beat you up right now.
- 13:20I always thought that'd be an interesting character. I'm like, how would you make that in
- 13:22DND without home brewing kind of stuff?
- 13:25>> Speaker A: Right.
- 13:26>> Speaker B: Making them just charismatic doesn't fit what I'm going for.
- 13:29But strength is what makes them a rogue.
- 13:32>> Speaker A: And that's always been a big debate, too, where
- 13:34intimidation is a charisma
- 13:37trait in dungeons and dragons, but it doesn't.
- 13:39>> Speaker B: Make sense with barbarian intimidating.
- 13:41>> Speaker A: Exactly. If the barbarian comes in and he's butt ugly and he
- 13:44has a minus four to charisma, but he's got, like,
- 13:47an 18th strength, if he starts popping his knuckles
- 13:50at you, that's intimidating. Exactly. And
- 13:53I know a lot of DMs, they're like, how are you using
- 13:56intimidation? And then we'll adjust the skill on that. But
- 13:59this one, it just puts it in there as presence. Presence is
- 14:02a little bit more of a broad concept. What.
- 14:05What do you look like when people look at you immediately? What are they
- 14:07thinking? And if you're a big, burly guy, they're thinking, oh, I
- 14:10probably don't want to mess with him. Yeah, no, I'm glad you pointed that out. I
- 14:13think that is a pretty cool mechanic. So, Cameron, out of
- 14:16curiosity, what class were you kind of leaning
- 14:19towards?
- 14:20>> Speaker B: Well, I was talking about this
- 14:23earlier before we started recording with you
- 14:26guys. And I was saying I'm not sure if I should grab. Like,
- 14:28I'm notoriously known for playing my martial classes. I
- 14:31love playing warriors and barbarians and just, fighters and barbarians and just playing
- 14:34those, right, absolutely. But then at the same time, I was like, should I pick a class that
- 14:37I'm not as familiar with? And then I was thinking, you know what I really
- 14:40want to see? I want to see there is
- 14:43one class that's notorious in d d
- 14:48Pathfinder, RPG systems that they just
- 14:50cannot get. Right, because it's this, like, what
- 14:53is it? And that is the Ranger.
- 14:56>> Speaker A: Right? What is the Ranger? Right?
- 14:58>> Speaker B: Because everyone's trying to recreate strider. They're trying to
- 15:01recreate Aragorn, right? But they're
- 15:03like, what is it? Because it's not all druid, it's
- 15:06not all fighter. It's this weird, like, they're good at
- 15:09tracking. What is that? What does that mean? So I wanted
- 15:12to see how did they take on Ranger? Because
- 15:15it's one of the biggest
- 15:18big problems that d d and Pathfinder have kind of
- 15:20fallen into. How do you perfect Ranger? Like, it's the
- 15:23only class that d d had to make a whole remake of. It's true.
- 15:26Because of how poorly made it was. So I want to see how
- 15:29they learned from d D's mistakes.
- 15:31>> Speaker C: Have you. Absolutely.
- 15:33>> Speaker A: So you're going to take that ranger. Tell me a little bit about how they
- 15:35describe ranger in daggerheart. Yep.
- 15:38>> Speaker B: It says, as a ranger, your keen eyes and graceful haste make
- 15:41you indispensable in tracking down enemies and navigating
- 15:44the wilds. Okay, so, yeah, very strider like.
- 15:47>> Speaker A: Yeah, very strider like. Very. Yeah. And it'll be
- 15:50something, interesting to see because I know, like, you kind of
- 15:52alluded to the idea. Know, how much
- 15:55is that sort, tracking.
- 15:58I mean, tracking definitely could come into play. But I know, like, the original
- 16:01ranger class talked a lot about. You had favorite
- 16:04terrain and stuff like that. And it's like, who
- 16:07cares?
- 16:10>> Speaker C: You step out of the city gates and you are
- 16:13suddenly in a forest, and the ranger just gets really
- 16:15excited.
- 16:17>> Speaker A: I'm home to shortchange the DMs
- 16:20out there that are writing up, like, trade routes
- 16:23and, economic complexities into their campaign. Those are
- 16:26the kind of people that are definitely probably putting you guys
- 16:29exclusively. You are on a grasslands terrain moving
- 16:31uphill at both ways. Yeah, exactly.
- 16:34Something along those lines. But for the
- 16:37average Dm, oh, my gosh, that's a lot to kind of try to have
- 16:40to keep track of and create and all this other stuff when you're doing
- 16:42100 other things. And so, yeah, it's nice
- 16:45to kind of avoid that and see. And I think there's
- 16:48another aspect of this that I should probably preface, which
- 16:51is in dagger heart, there's a very much heavier.
- 16:55I, would say that it's a little bit more story over
- 16:57numbers than d d is. D d is very, like,
- 17:00everything is kind of listed out. It's got a plus or minus to
- 17:03the stat. It's associated with something you're going to add
- 17:06or subtract from your dice. your
- 17:09range is this amount exclusively. And if it's past this
- 17:12amount, you're going to take disadvantage, on the attack
- 17:15things along those lines, whereas looking over the character
- 17:18sheet and things, there's definitely a decent amount of that, but
- 17:21there's a lot of things that are going to be more
- 17:23storytelling focused. And if it can be justified
- 17:26within the narrative of the game, then it could
- 17:29count towards a stat, or it could
- 17:32just broadly be considered like, oh, yeah, you succeed at that because
- 17:35it just makes sense that your character would know how to do that or
- 17:38be able to do that. So that kind of helps with the ranger situation
- 17:41of, yeah, of course he knows how to use the terrain
- 17:43around him. He's a ranger. That's what he.
- 17:47And with the concession of, like, he's
- 17:50never experienced the desert before, so, yeah, now he's a little bit out of
- 17:53sorts. He doesn't know what to do here. So maybe he'd
- 17:55take a disadvantage on something or something along those lines.
- 17:58But, like, for instance, gold, I'm looking at that right here. So
- 18:01gold isn't measured by a specific number. Gold is
- 18:04measured by just kind of a broad concept of amount. So you've
- 18:07got multiple slots for handful, and then you have
- 18:10multiple slots that are filled in under bag. So
- 18:13you'd have bags of gold. Right. Then you have chests of gold, then you have
- 18:16hordes of gold, and then you have a fortune. Right. And so when
- 18:19you're playing the game. And you want to
- 18:22buy something. Right? I might have four
- 18:24X's on handful of gold. Right. So I have
- 18:27four handfuls per se. Right. And then the DM says,
- 18:30well, what do you want to buy? And you're like, well, I want to buy the spear. And he says, okay,
- 18:33spear is probably going to just cost you a handful of gold. So then you just
- 18:36erase one handful of gold. It's not like,
- 18:39yeah, exactly. It's not like I have exactly
- 18:41325 gold. Right. And I need to
- 18:44subtract 32. And then you're sitting there running
- 18:47the math or whatever the case and trying to adjust it.
- 18:50>> Speaker C: And not to mention things like silver.
- 18:52>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 18:53>> Speaker C: And copper or whatever.
- 18:54>> Speaker A: And nobody wants that. To keep track of that. And the DM sitting there trying
- 18:57to come up with pricing for things because a lot of things aren't exclusively
- 18:59listed. And even if it was, who wants to go through 20
- 19:02pages of inventory and
- 19:05economic existence?
- 19:06>> Speaker C: Just kind of right off the bat, I can already tell that there
- 19:09is going to be less math.
- 19:12>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 19:13>> Speaker C: In this by far. just the fact that
- 19:15you only are getting, what you get, you get two
- 19:18plus ones, two zeros, one minus one, and
- 19:21one plus two.
- 19:23>> Speaker A: Ah.
- 19:23>> Speaker C: To literally all of your stats. There's no. What
- 19:26does five e go up to? like a plus
- 19:29five.
- 19:29>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 19:31>> Speaker C: Max stat. and if I roll a 20
- 19:34and, oh, I got to see if I have a plus five to it.
- 19:38This is a lot simpler.
- 19:40already right off the bat.
- 19:42>> Speaker A: Exactly. It's just a lot. Yeah. More simplified and
- 19:44less math. Exactly. Which we all appreciate.
- 19:47>> Speaker C: I'm excited.
- 19:48>> Speaker A: Unless you're a big math person, I guess. But whatever the
- 19:50case, unless you're a nerd. Unless you're a
- 19:53nerd. And in which case, why would you be playing a role
- 19:56playing game in the first place? Yeah. All
- 19:59right, Dave, what class are you deciding to
- 20:02take?
- 20:03>> Speaker D: So I kind of had an idea for a character. So I
- 20:06picked the rogue. Try to see
- 20:08if I could work that into it. But also
- 20:11I picked the rogue because each
- 20:14character has two keywords underneath their
- 20:17class. okay, so the rogue is
- 20:19keywords are midnight and grace. And
- 20:22from what I understand, you share,
- 20:25like, card decks with, class
- 20:28abilities. so I wanted to see how it worked out.
- 20:30If I chose a keyword that was the same
- 20:34as a party members being Jackson's, he has
- 20:36sorcerer, whose keywords are Arcana and.
- 20:40>> Speaker A: Ah. Ah. Okay. So, yeah, you've got that midnight. So, yeah,
- 20:43I'm glad you brought those up. So those are domain cards and
- 20:46domain cards kind of are like, if you took a
- 20:48subclass within DND, and then even within that
- 20:51subclass, it kind of split into
- 20:54different paths within that that you could take. That's kind of
- 20:57what the domains are. So in the domain deck,
- 21:00there are a number of different
- 21:03domains to choose from. I can go through those really
- 21:05quick. you've got codex, blade,
- 21:09bone, arcana, grace,
- 21:12valor, midnight, sage,
- 21:14and Splendor. And then each
- 21:17class has underneath it the options
- 21:20that you can take. As far as these domain goes,
- 21:23you don't have to take them all. Like, if you have the
- 21:26sorcerer, your domains are, midnight
- 21:29and Arcana. You don't have to
- 21:32choose Arcana and just take two Arcana
- 21:35cards, which is what you would get at the,
- 21:38kind of later on down the process of character creation. You're going to take
- 21:41two domain cards. you don't have to take two
- 21:44Arcana. You could take an Arcana and a midnight. You could take two midnight. Whatever
- 21:47combination that you want that kind of helps guide your character in the
- 21:50direction that you want to go. And if you share
- 21:52them with another character, as you mentioned, Dave, you kind of have to come
- 21:55to an agreement with the other player that's sharing it with you. Like, if you both
- 21:58want the same card, that's not a problem in and of itself.
- 22:01You can just print another card, and both have, you
- 22:04know, depending on how you want to play it, if you really want all the
- 22:07characters to be different from each other, you might choose
- 22:10who's going to get that card and who's not, and have to take a different
- 22:13card.
- 22:14>> Speaker C: By the way, was that mentioned? This is not like
- 22:17a deck of cards that you buy per
- 22:20se. It's one of those print and yourself.
- 22:23>> Speaker A: Exactly. Or just reference it or whatever the case.
- 22:26Yes, exactly. So this all comes with the character
- 22:29and the base rules and stuff like that. but yeah,
- 22:32it's a really cool concept and it gives you abilities, is what the
- 22:35cards do. So that's one thing that I mentioned before was the
- 22:37little tiny sections of your character traits
- 22:40and your abilities and all this other stuff that, like dungeons and
- 22:43dragons has you try to fit into those spaces
- 22:46in daggerheart. A lot of these abilities and
- 22:49capabilities are cards that are just going to be sitting right there next to
- 22:52you, easily accessible to you and your character, so
- 22:55that you can quickly reference them, which I really like because I
- 22:58have never been able to get them onto the
- 23:00DND page, the character sheet, without having to
- 23:03shrink that font size down to like four.
- 23:06And then I can't read it. So then it's kind of
- 23:08pointless. especially when you start hitting like level.
- 23:12Awesome. So and then did you want to give me a description there of
- 23:15the rogue? Like how they kind of have it written out? Dave?
- 23:18>> Speaker D: So as a rogue you have experience with
- 23:20sidestepping the law and dealing with the underbelly
- 23:23of society, preferring to move m quickly and
- 23:26fight quietly.
- 23:28>> Speaker A: Quietly. So kind of, yeah, like that classic hidden
- 23:31in the shadows kind of rogue type character.
- 23:33Awesome. So that's everybody's classes. So we've all chosen a class,
- 23:36which is the first step. And I know we talked a lot, I think the
- 23:39rest of it will move a lot quicker since we've talked about a lot of the
- 23:42aspects of the character sheet along the way. So moving on
- 23:45to subclass. Cameron, you have the,
- 23:48remind me again, Ranger. Yeah. So which subclass did you
- 23:51go with?
- 23:51>> Speaker B: Well, see the two subclass choices you have as a
- 23:54ranger is wayfinder.
- 23:56>> Speaker A: Right.
- 23:56>> Speaker B: Which is basically you're using your
- 23:59agility to well you're
- 24:02using your abilities to just be, well it says
- 24:05apex predator straight on. Just
- 24:07be really good at the martial skills of it.
- 24:10>> Speaker A: Right.
- 24:11>> Speaker B: But when you get the, I'm not going to choose
- 24:14that one. I'm going to choose their second subclass option. Because
- 24:17when you get the ranger, when you get the ranger class, you
- 24:20don't get two papers like the other one. You get a third one because
- 24:23you get a whole companion, which is what
- 24:26the subclass does. Calls beastbound.
- 24:28>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 24:28>> Speaker B: I have an animal companion.
- 24:30>> Speaker A: Awesome.
- 24:30>> Speaker B: of my choice. And at the
- 24:33GM's description, of course, take the ranger companion
- 24:35sheet. And whenever you level up your character I also choose a level that is
- 24:39on my companion sheet. So my companion sheet has
- 24:41levels of training on top of,
- 24:44I will be giving them traits and all.
- 24:46>> Speaker A: Oh, very cool. Okay. And those are like
- 24:49sneak, climb, strike, scare, run, fly,
- 24:52lead, swim. All things that kind of an animal
- 24:55or beast could be capable of and good at. And
- 24:58then they have, we'll get into it here.
- 25:01>> Speaker C: Having an animal that advances and levels up
- 25:04with you is so
- 25:06much more interactive than just
- 25:09the animal companion of five E. Right.
- 25:13That's really cool.
- 25:14>> Speaker A: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 25:16>> Speaker B: And from what it looks like, and we don't have the full rules here,
- 25:19but what it looks like with the companion is I have all those things
- 25:22that Skylar read the eight traits and I'm going to
- 25:25assume that I'm going to get one at the first level. And then every
- 25:28time I level up I'm going to add more skills to them as well.
- 25:31and on top of that, it shows for training whenever your character levels up,
- 25:34also choose one option for your companion from the list below and mark
- 25:37it.
- 25:37>> Speaker A: Right.
- 25:37>> Speaker B: So there you go. Yeah,
- 25:40I see it now. So you get one companion trait to start, and then two of
- 25:43those level ups is there's called intelligent. It says, I choose an additional
- 25:46companion trait. So my companion will have up to three of these
- 25:49traits, right, from sneak.
- 25:50>> Speaker A: Climb, whatever, which would be really cool
- 25:53to be able to kind of level up alongside your creature.
- 25:56I mean, they've got a damage dice thing, they've got
- 25:59stress, which is kind of a stat that we don't know a whole lot about
- 26:02in this game, currently without the complete
- 26:05rules, but it has a stress meter as well. So,
- 26:08yeah, while you're leveling up and you have all those options
- 26:11at the bottom of your second page to level up your character, you
- 26:13also have options to level up your beast
- 26:16companion as well, which is really cool.
- 26:18>> Speaker B: Like you said, jack, I'm also going to add just a little side
- 26:21thing that I think is really cool. That when they designed the companion
- 26:24sheet, they designed it. So it only takes up two thirds of the
- 26:27page.
- 26:27>> Speaker A: Right.
- 26:29>> Speaker B: The main page under you, plying page
- 26:32underneath of it. And so it doesn't take up as much room to have them
- 26:35side to side.
- 26:36>> Speaker C: You can always reference rather than just reference.
- 26:39>> Speaker B: It's right there. You don't have to flip a page. It doesn't take up, as much room because
- 26:41your main paper is covering.
- 26:43>> Speaker A: A third of it. Exactly. They really thought through the
- 26:45design. the design of the character sheets is really
- 26:48cool.
- 26:48>> Speaker C: Right.
- 26:49>> Speaker A: If you get a chance to, once,
- 26:52everything's kind of released, they should have a link out there for you to go
- 26:54download it. It's pretty neat. So, Jackson, did you
- 26:57figure out the subclass?
- 26:59>> Speaker C: Yeah, you know what?
- 27:01they're pretty easy to understand. the sorcerer
- 27:04at the moment has two subclasses, one
- 27:07being elemental origin and one being primal origin.
- 27:10the primal origin, which is the one I'm not going to go
- 27:13with. its
- 27:16description is your primal origin allows you to modify
- 27:19the essence of magic itself. After you
- 27:21cast a spell or use a weapon that deals magic
- 27:24damage, you may mark a stress to do
- 27:27any of the following. And I'm going to assume that as a
- 27:30storytelling perspective, your stress
- 27:33meter is like, how
- 27:36much you exert, right? So, like, if I was
- 27:39a martial character and I wanted to
- 27:42leap a longer distance, I would
- 27:44mark a stress because I'm over exerting myself.
- 27:47>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 27:47>> Speaker C: Rather than normal. I think you're very.
- 27:50As I'm looking at it and doing my own interpretation,
- 27:53seems like a very cool way to do that.
- 27:55>> Speaker A: Yeah. it's kind of like taking fatigue in
- 27:58avatar legends, which we have a benders and brew series on. But
- 28:01anyway, sorry.
- 28:02>> Speaker C: and so some of those actions are,
- 28:05you stress yourself by extending the reach
- 28:08by one range of your spell, adding a plus two to the
- 28:11action roll result, reroll, any number
- 28:14of damage, dice wild, by the
- 28:16way, or you can hit an additional target
- 28:19within range with the spell.
- 28:21>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 28:21>> Speaker C: so those are all actually pretty cool. But speaking of
- 28:24benders and brews, what I want to go with is the
- 28:27elemental origin. Which is your elemental origin lets
- 28:30you manipulate and shape a certain kind of
- 28:33element.
- 28:33>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 28:34>> Speaker C: You choose one of water, fire, air, lightning, or
- 28:37earth.
- 28:37>> Speaker A: Right.
- 28:38>> Speaker C: and you can channel this element into unique, harmless
- 28:40effects. Or, you may
- 28:43also spend a hope, to
- 28:45describe how your control over this
- 28:48element helps the current action
- 28:51and either add plus two to the action
- 28:53roll, before making it, or plus three
- 28:56to the damage after to.
- 28:58>> Speaker A: Help make sure you hit or to add some
- 29:00to you.
- 29:02>> Speaker C: Either make sure you hit or you hit harder.
- 29:04>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 29:04>> Speaker C: Which is nice. And I think I would like to
- 29:07be an earth sorcerer.
- 29:08>> Speaker A: Nice. Okay, so we got an earthbender, kind
- 29:11of. Listen, very cool.
- 29:13>> Speaker C: I've got them square hands,
- 29:17every avatar, the last airbender. They're
- 29:20like, what bender are you by
- 29:22your hand? shape. And I'm like, earthbender,
- 29:25earthbender, earth.
- 29:26>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 29:30>> Speaker C: I don't know, it's all I see on the.
- 29:32>> Speaker A: Yeah, so you got like these, earth kind of
- 29:35abilities and powers, very centered within
- 29:38the element, which I think is really cool. Like very avatar,
- 29:41the last airbender, but still nonetheless, very
- 29:43cool.
- 29:44>> Speaker C: It's interesting that it says you can channel this element into a
- 29:47unique, harmless effect. So
- 29:49that just kind of leads you into, ah, some,
- 29:52storytelling while you're playing.
- 29:54>> Speaker A: Absolutely.
- 29:54>> Speaker C: Oh, I'm going to make this little earth goblin to
- 29:57go build a fire, a little earth golem
- 30:00over here.
- 30:01>> Speaker A: Very sort, of like a prestige digitation or
- 30:04thermodogy where it's kind of those harmless little effects, but
- 30:07very specifically geared towards
- 30:09earth control.
- 30:10>> Speaker C: And you don't necessarily need to worry about spending a spell
- 30:13slot.
- 30:13>> Speaker A: Yeah, and that's also nice.
- 30:15>> Speaker C: and here it's called hope.
- 30:19Use, ah, hope to help an ally
- 30:22or an experience.
- 30:24>> Speaker A: Right.
- 30:25>> Speaker C: Which all are kind of strange words to me at the moment. I'm not an
- 30:28entire.
- 30:28>> Speaker A: We'll figure those out along the way. Exactly
- 30:37what does Avatar, the last Airbender, Dungeons and
- 30:40dragons, horrifying monsters, and a group of
- 30:43weirdos all have in common? They're all featured in the

- 31:42And then, Dave, you're over here with your rogue.
- 31:45Which subclass did you feel a calling
- 31:48towards?
- 31:49>> Speaker B: Right.
- 31:49>> Speaker D: So I had a couple options for rogue, night
- 31:52Walker and syndicate. So night Walker is
- 31:55jumping through the shadows, kind of
- 31:57disappearing. and syndicate is
- 32:00like who? You know,
- 32:03like, if you enter a town, it says, well, this is one
- 32:06I'm picking, so I'll read that. Okay. When you arrive
- 32:09in a heavily populated town or city, you know
- 32:12somebody that calls this place home, give them a
- 32:15name. Note how you think they could be useful and choose
- 32:18one from the list below. And there's like options
- 32:21like they owe you a favor or you left on
- 32:23bad terms. because that could be an
- 32:26interesting option to create story, enhance
- 32:29it for yourself personally. Work with the DM
- 32:32to build the world a little bit.
- 32:34>> Speaker C: Everywhere I go, somebody owes me a favor.
- 32:38>> Speaker D: Everywhere I go, somebody owes me money.
- 32:40>> Speaker C: Remember that time I gave you my left sock
- 32:43repair?
- 32:45>> Speaker B: Both. And the mobile
- 32:48interest.
- 32:50>> Speaker A: Very cool. So you're the guy that always knows
- 32:53somebody. He's always got a guy. You guys walk
- 32:56into a town, you're like, oh, man, we broke our
- 32:58cartwheel. You're like, I know a cart repair
- 33:01guy.
- 33:02>> Speaker C: It's just turning into pond stars.
- 33:05Let me call an expert.
- 33:06>> Speaker B: That's true.
- 33:07>> Speaker D: But it does say heavily populated. I
- 33:10suppose it's not every little podunk,
- 33:13right?
- 33:13>> Speaker B: More cities like, oh, yes, I know.
- 33:16>> Speaker D: The magical item salesman. He owes me a
- 33:19favor.
- 33:21>> Speaker A: In the middle of small town, there's.
- 33:23>> Speaker B: Like, eight people that live here.
- 33:29>> Speaker A: Very cool. Very cool. I love it. I think that's a really cool, sort
- 33:32of. And that's the thing with rogues. The diversity within
- 33:35rogue in and of itself is just so massive. Right.
- 33:37Like I said before, I mean, you got everything from your kind of, like,
- 33:40ninja or assassin or thief or
- 33:43pirate. I mean, all of that kind of stuff gets encompassed in here, so
- 33:46it is really hard to just sort of narrow
- 33:49things down along the way, without getting too
- 33:52specific or something like that. The
- 33:54character creation opportunities are pretty
- 33:57unlimited, and so I think this is a good way to keep
- 34:00things broad while also kind of helping you specialized in
- 34:02a specific area, so. Very cool. Very cool. Awesome.
- 34:06We'll move on to number three. Number three is you're
- 34:08choosing your heritage, and heritage comes in two parts. So you have
- 34:11your ancestry, which is sort of like your
- 34:14race or your species, and then you're going to have
- 34:17your community, which is kind of like where you
- 34:20came from. Right. Sort of. how did
- 34:22your upbringing affect
- 34:26what you kind of became or turned into or how your
- 34:29character kind of developed into whatever it is? Right.
- 34:31So looking at races,
- 34:34or the ancestries, as they call them, anything
- 34:37you could think of within dungeons and dragons is probably
- 34:40in here, plus some extras. You've got clanks. Those
- 34:43are like your, war forged, and those are pretty sick
- 34:46daemons. It's, demon with an a in it. it's
- 34:49kind of like your tie flings. You've got
- 34:51dracona, which is like your dragonborns, right? You
- 34:54got all those. A couple that I noticed that are really cool. So
- 34:57you got fungrill, which is sort of like a fungus.
- 35:00Say fun girl. Yeah, it's a fun girl.
- 35:03>> Speaker B: You can play a fun girl.
- 35:06>> Speaker A: Fungal, which is sort of like a mushroom
- 35:09species. you've got. Let's see what else is
- 35:12in here. Okay. You've got
- 35:14katari, which is sort of like a
- 35:17kitsune esque sort of fox
- 35:20person or cat person. it does
- 35:22specifically say feline, but I think you could probably
- 35:25fit kind of more of a fox, a lupine,
- 35:28something to do like a dog person. If you could even do a
- 35:31dog person.
- 35:31>> Speaker C: Yeah, this is your.
- 35:33>> Speaker A: This is exactly. I think there's a lot of
- 35:36options in there that you could kind of create yourself.
- 35:39Samaya, I think, is how you pronounce that, which is like a
- 35:41monkey person, which I think is really
- 35:44cool. you've got a ribbon, which is a frog person. So
- 35:47they definitely took some cool animal concepts and they threw them in
- 35:49there. And the cool thing about the racial or
- 35:52these ancestry options is that there really
- 35:55isn't a limit to them, honestly. It comes with the name,
- 35:58the description, and one feat
- 36:01or trait or whatever. Right. It's not like within
- 36:04dnd where your, stats are going to get an
- 36:07increase in a specific way. You're going to get, like, three to
- 36:10five different traits. It's going to tell you about your age
- 36:12options. It's going to tell you about all these other factors. It's
- 36:15very simple. So it really opens the entire,
- 36:19an insane, huge world up to making some
- 36:22homebrew ancestries. It's like the easiest thing in
- 36:25the world. But, with that being said, we're going to try to stick
- 36:28with the, ancestry options that are afforded to us currently
- 36:31with what, daggerheart gave us.
- 36:34So starting with,
- 36:37did you, what did you decide to pick?
- 36:39>> Speaker D: So I went with the ribbit. So
- 36:42let me say my character idea
- 36:44is kind of inspired by
- 36:47Kiro from one piece. That's
- 36:50kind of popular. See, maybe some of you have seen that
- 36:53the, live action. So Kiro is the pirate
- 36:56captain, the former captain of the black cat
- 36:59pirates, who is now a butler
- 37:01or servant at the
- 37:04rich girl's house.
- 37:06>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 37:06>> Speaker D: So my idea for this rogue was that he
- 37:09would be, Perhaps he has a past, like in some
- 37:12of the syndicate connections. Maybe he was part of a larger
- 37:15organization at one point, but now he
- 37:18has just been going from town to town or large
- 37:21city to large city and tricking
- 37:25rich, families to hire him as a servant
- 37:28and then eventually stealing from them and skipping
- 37:31town.
- 37:31>> Speaker A: Nice. I like it. And I like that you have kind of like a
- 37:34character example that we all. I feel like a lot of people would know. I
- 37:37know. I definitely remember him.
- 37:39>> Speaker D: Right. so, Ribbit, why did I
- 37:42pick a frog person? Well, I guess I'm thinking a
- 37:45little bit of over the garden
- 37:47wall. There you go.
- 37:50One of our favorite episodes of that show was the
- 37:53frog episode, the Frog boat.
- 37:55But there were frog butlers,
- 37:59and that's kind of what I'm thinking of.
- 38:00>> Speaker A: And the president.
- 38:01>> Speaker B: They met the president, too. That's right. They met
- 38:04the president.
- 38:05>> Speaker A: So interesting thing about the ribbon.
- 38:09So it literally is a frog person, for all intents
- 38:12and purposes. And then, Dave, you get two, sort of,
- 38:15ancestry abilities that kind of come with it.
- 38:17>> Speaker D: These seem very, Yeah, two
- 38:20abilities where some of these appears, they only have one.
- 38:23>> Speaker A: Right.
- 38:23>> Speaker D: amphibious is the first. You can breathe and move
- 38:26underwater just as easily on land.
- 38:29>> Speaker A: Awesome.
- 38:29>> Speaker D: And then the other one seems pretty fun. Long tongue.
- 38:33You can use your long, powerful tongue to grab onto things
- 38:36close to you. You may also mark stress to unleash
- 38:39it as a close weapon that does d twelve
- 38:42physical damage.
- 38:43>> Speaker A: And I just want to emphasize on this, and technically speaking, when it comes
- 38:46to dice rolls, rolling a d twelve isn't
- 38:49always that much better than rolling, say, a
- 38:52d eight plus a modifier. Right. Because
- 38:55you could still roll low on the d twelve. But I do want to
- 38:57mention the fact that looking at some of the weapons in
- 39:00here, usually the standard is d eight.
- 39:03And then there's a few of them that do d ten s.
- 39:06And there's one weapon, a Warhammer
- 39:09does a d twelve. So to think that your tongue
- 39:12is capable of basically being on par with a
- 39:14warhammer is hilarious.
- 39:18>> Speaker C: It's just a fist in your mouth.
- 39:20>> Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. And I'm just
- 39:22imagining, for the normal usage of it, you're just
- 39:25pulling the, like, jar jar Binks, using his tongue to pick up
- 39:28the little fruits at the table. And somebody in your party's
- 39:31just getting really annoyed with you.
- 39:34Cameron, tell me about your ancestry that you picked
- 39:37for your ranger.
- 39:39>> Speaker B: Like Dave.
- 39:40>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 39:42>> Speaker B: I immediately came up with a concept for my character
- 39:44immediately after I picked beastbound with my
- 39:48companion. I'm like, what do I want a companion to
- 39:50be? And I immediately thought, I think it'd be
- 39:53so funny if I did a retelling of
- 39:57curious George
- 40:00where I was this happy go lucky
- 40:03dude who just was wandering in the forest one
- 40:06day, and this monkey came out of nowhere and was
- 40:09just like, yo, I'm your friend now, and I'm not going to ever leave your side. And I'm
- 40:12just like, I don't want you to be here. But he kept
- 40:14following me, and now.
- 40:16>> Speaker A: And Jack Johnson music kept upside
- 40:19down.
- 40:19>> Speaker B: Started playing, like, okay. So years later, I'm still stuck with this guy. So
- 40:22I thought, what would be the perfect
- 40:24ancestry race to go with this? And I
- 40:27am shifting. It's not a monkey,
- 40:30okay? Rather, my little guy, a,
- 40:32halfling, was going out on a halfling
- 40:35adventure, and he was making himself a bowl of
- 40:37stew. And while eating said stew,
- 40:40he turns and sees a giant orange orangutan
- 40:43just standing next to him and just
- 40:46going. And he's like, what do I
- 40:49do? So he just kind of holds out his bowl for the orangutan,
- 40:52and the orangutan grabs the bowl and drinks it and then holds
- 40:55it out for him. And he kind of just kept refilling it. 2nd,
- 40:58third, and, well, seven years later,
- 41:01him and his orangutan have been going on cross
- 41:04whirlwind adventures. Because the community I also picked was wanderer
- 41:07born.
- 41:07>> Speaker A: Oh, okay.
- 41:08>> Speaker B: My guy, he was born into a nomadic, halfling
- 41:11tribe that always kind of traveled around and
- 41:13for his reason why, we can get into
- 41:16that in later backstory stuff. But he went out on his
- 41:19own because he's more of a loner kind of
- 41:22personality. And through traveling alone, he
- 41:25ran into his orangutan friend. And this is where he
- 41:28is now. So he is an ancestry halfling with the community
- 41:31of Wanderborn. And now I'm going to read them just so the audience.
- 41:34Yeah, halflings. Very similar to d d,
- 41:37though. little lucky. At the beginning of each session, give everyone
- 41:39in your party a hope.
- 41:41>> Speaker A: Whoa, that's pretty big.
- 41:42>> Speaker C: Wow.
- 41:43>> Speaker B: And then you may always reroll a one on a
- 41:46hope die if you do, take the new result instead.
- 41:49So you always reroll one. So a halfling cannot roll one
- 41:52on a hope roll pretty big.
- 41:54>> Speaker A: So kind of similar to the luck feat.
- 41:56>> Speaker B: Very similar.
- 41:56>> Speaker A: But dungeons and dragons, I would say.
- 41:58>> Speaker B: Stronger because that's only on a D 20.
- 42:01>> Speaker A: Right.
- 42:02>> Speaker B: And you only, get it once. And if you happen to roll back to back ones, well,
- 42:05you're stuck with it this time. It says you always are rerolling if it's a
- 42:08one.
- 42:08>> Speaker A: Right.
- 42:09>> Speaker B: And it's a d twelve, so the chances of one is
- 42:11a lot higher. So that's pretty good, right? As for
- 42:14Wandererborn, it says a nomadic pack. So I have a nomadic
- 42:17pack to add to my inventory. And then once per session, I
- 42:20may spend a hope to just reach into my pack and pull out
- 42:23any common item that I think is just the perfect
- 42:26thing for the situation. As long as it's not too crazy.
- 42:29The Gm m approves of it. So I think
- 42:32it really fits with my character is like this halfling literally
- 42:35just wandered around everywhere and just happened to have the perfect
- 42:38thing to make an orangutan best friend.
- 42:40>> Speaker A: Right.
- 42:40>> Speaker C: I pull a hot bowl of soup.
- 42:42>> Speaker B: Out of my back, just magically keeps
- 42:45pulling bananas out. This is the
- 42:48best guy I've ever met.
- 42:50I can imagine the orangutan walking behind my
- 42:53guy and just pulling stuff out of my.
- 42:59>> Speaker A: I freaking love the idea that, I mean, it's a half leg. So this
- 43:02orangutan is very probably bigger.
- 43:05>> Speaker B: He's like three sizes bigger than.
- 43:07>> Speaker A: So it's like little dude with big best friend.
- 43:10Kind of big dude.
- 43:13Exactly. Yeah. Ah.
- 43:14>> Speaker B: A reverse it would
- 43:16be the flip. Oh, this is my little
- 43:19body.
- 43:22>> Speaker A: I love it. I love this character idea so much. This
- 43:25is fantastic. Dave, did you want to mention
- 43:27which, community?
- 43:29>> Speaker D: Yep. I think it only makes sense to go with
- 43:32the wild born community. so, I mean, it
- 43:35says you're part of a wild
- 43:38born community. Means you were raised by a clan deep within
- 43:41the forest. So maybe like a tree frog
- 43:43type thing.
- 43:44>> Speaker A: Oh, cool. I don't know.
- 43:46>> Speaker D: but the ability also goes well with a rogue
- 43:49class. Its ability is lightfoot. Your
- 43:51movement is naturally silent. Take advantage on
- 43:54any action roles you have. You make to move
- 43:57without being heard. You could spend a hope
- 44:00to also grant this ability to an ally
- 44:03in very close range of you.
- 44:05>> Speaker A: So you teach them the dune
- 44:07Arrakis walk thing.
- 44:11This is how you don't summon, not worms. I mean, maybe
- 44:14it could be, but in this case, it's, just like maybe
- 44:17people or try not alert anybody. So very cool. Okay,
- 44:20cool. So raised in the forest, kind of very, like,
- 44:22elvish kind of a feel. And
- 44:25then, having kind of that silent
- 44:28nature that you've developed over jumping through the
- 44:30trees and running through the bush and all that kind of stuff.
- 44:33So very cool. Awesome. All right. And then Jackson,
- 44:36jumping back to this sorcerer that you're putting
- 44:40always when I.
- 44:41>> Speaker C: When I build a character in d d, I always kind of think
- 44:43of, I almost think
- 44:46of my past experiences with the game, and I'm like,
- 44:49man, I kind of always want a jack
- 44:52of all trades, master of none.
- 44:53>> Speaker A: Nice. Okay.
- 44:54>> Speaker C: better than a master of one type of character.
- 44:57>> Speaker A: Sure.
- 44:57>> Speaker C: And so, for the sorcerer, I took,
- 45:00the orc ancestry. So the
- 45:02orc, race, which the description
- 45:05is orcs, are mostly recognizable as humanoids
- 45:08with square features and boar like tusks.
- 45:10>> Speaker A: Now it comes back to those square features you were talking about.
- 45:13>> Speaker C: They're already the perfect.
- 45:15>> Speaker A: That's perfect.
- 45:16>> Speaker C: and another thing that kind of
- 45:19ties in with that earthbender. You could flip this in
- 45:22a story way that I'll explain in a second. but
- 45:24their kind, of skill
- 45:27is called sturdy. And m it's
- 45:30whenever you should mark an armor slot, roll
- 45:33a d six, and on a five or more. So
- 45:36five or six, I don't imagine you'd add anything that. So on a five
- 45:39or six, you don't mark the armor slot,
- 45:42but still reduce the incoming damage by your
- 45:45armor score.
- 45:46>> Speaker A: Okay, interesting.
- 45:46>> Speaker C: Rather than my armor, I assume the armor slots are
- 45:49your armor taking damage. Yeah. and so
- 45:52rather than that happening, I'm just using
- 45:55my toughness or my
- 45:59rock like features,
- 46:01I summoned a rock armor to
- 46:04myself to kind of take the hit damage instead.
- 46:07>> Speaker A: Awesome.
- 46:07>> Speaker C: and being a sorcerer,
- 46:09my character is coming
- 46:12from the underborn community.
- 46:14>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 46:14>> Speaker C: and being part of an underborn community means that you are
- 46:17from the subterranean society.
- 46:20>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 46:21>> Speaker C: and they say it's
- 46:23typically, like,
- 46:25darker places, no real
- 46:28light areas. So they get low light living.
- 46:31And so when you're in an area with low light or heavy
- 46:34shadow, you, have advantage on roles to
- 46:37hide, investigate, or perceive detail.
- 46:39>> Speaker A: Oh, you're the dark vision guy.
- 46:46>> Speaker C: It's interesting because rather than just getting dark
- 46:49vision, you just have
- 46:52advantage on roles. and I thought
- 46:55it was interesting that it was on roles to hide.
- 46:58I don't know.
- 46:59>> Speaker A: He's a sneaky dude.
- 47:01>> Speaker C: Different than, dark vision in a way.
- 47:04>> Speaker A: Yeah. A little bit more to it than just I can kind of
- 47:06see well in the dark. You can see well and you can
- 47:09hide well. Kind of a roundabout. I grew up in
- 47:12a place that's just constant dark and shadows. Right.
- 47:15There are things that come with that for sure. So awesome. Very
- 47:18cool. All right, so next up on the
- 47:21list, so we would do the traits. I don't think it really
- 47:24makes too much sense to go through these because, again,
- 47:27you can say that. I would say let's highlight the
- 47:30plus two and the minus one. So everything else
- 47:32is pretty, like plus one plus zero.
- 47:35It's not like a huge amount, but for whatever you guys
- 47:38chose, as far as your plus two, which will be kind of your
- 47:41primary highest stat, and then your minus one, something that you feel like
- 47:44your character wouldn't really focus too much on.
- 47:47Dave?
- 47:48>> Speaker D: I was probably just going to go with the suggested
- 47:51traits for the rogue. plus one to
- 47:53agility. So sprinting, leaping,
- 47:56maneuvering. minus one to
- 47:58strength, lift, smash, grapple.
- 48:01Plus two to finesse, control, hide,
- 48:04tinker. Zero to
- 48:06instinct, perceiving, sensing,
- 48:08navigating. Plus one to presence, charm,
- 48:11perform, deceive, and zero to knowledge,
- 48:14recall, analyze, comprehend.
- 48:16>> Speaker A: Perfect. Yeah, I think that fits that character.
- 48:19Well, I was figuring you were going to take that plus one to presence
- 48:22because I feel like that really fit your character's whole,
- 48:25I know somebody in, know that kind of sort
- 48:28of thing, and then, like, the sort of butler esque kind
- 48:30of side of things, so I like it. All
- 48:33right, perfect. Cameron, you got your
- 48:36idea on at least your plus two and your minus.
- 48:40>> Speaker B: Yeah, I'm doing it right now, but I'm filling it. I was like,
- 48:43oh, but trying to think of what my character is. And I'm very
- 48:46much calling back to, like, curious
- 48:49George, man with the old hat. I'm in the half.
- 48:54I. As I said, it's been, like, seven years I've been with the Zorang tank,
- 48:57and it's very much like we've learned each other's strengths and
- 48:59weaknesses.
- 49:00>> Speaker A: right.
- 49:00>> Speaker B: My guy's biggest weakness is, well, strength.
- 49:04He is a teeny, tiny, weak little
- 49:06halfling. But the ring tang will just sometimes just
- 49:09pick him up and put him on his shoulders and just carry him across the
- 49:12country and stuff. But where he comes in the hand
- 49:15is instinct, and his instinct is his perceived sense and
- 49:18navigate.
- 49:18>> Speaker A: Very good.
- 49:19>> Speaker B: And as a nomadic ranger, I feel like he'd be amazing
- 49:22at that.
- 49:22>> Speaker A: Just make sense.
- 49:23>> Speaker B: He is just designed for tracking, exploring.
- 49:26Probably good at berry collecting and finding food.
- 49:28As we all know, halflings are great at making food out of
- 49:31anything.
- 49:32>> Speaker A: That's right.
- 49:32>> Speaker B: Natural mushrooms. Exactly. I'm going to put one
- 49:35in agility, though, plus one in agility, because that feels. It fits
- 49:38for the ranger class, on top of the fact that he's kind of
- 49:41probably had to get out some tight spots and stuff, and he's a quick little
- 49:44halfling. and then it would be another
- 49:47plus one and two zeros. I'm going to say zero, probably for presence,
- 49:50probably because he's lived away from no one, so no presence there.
- 49:53>> Speaker A: Right.
- 49:53>> Speaker B: and then his finesse, I'm probably going to say that's his other
- 49:56zero, just because
- 49:59he's never really needed much finesse. But, knowledge, I
- 50:02think, is his last plus one, just because that's all analyze,
- 50:05comprehend. That's just the stuff he's learned.
- 50:07>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 50:07>> Speaker B: He probably read a lot of books on his time. Just takes books
- 50:10and reads in his free time and stuff, and
- 50:13probably has now had to read up a lot on
- 50:15orangutans just to learn more about them. So
- 50:18when he's passing from town to town on his journeys, he probably sees
- 50:21if they have any books, and he swaps books with them.
- 50:23>> Speaker A: Right.
- 50:23>> Speaker B: I'll trade you a book for one of yours and something like that.
- 50:26>> Speaker A: I like to think the first book that he went through for the orangutan thing was
- 50:29like, what are they allowed to eat and what would be poisonous to
- 50:32orangutan? So I don't accidentally.
- 50:34>> Speaker B: And the first one just said, under no conditions.
- 50:37Feed them. Stew.
- 50:46>> Speaker A: Awesome. All right. And then, let's see, Jackson,
- 50:49you've got your stats for your sorcerer.
- 50:51>> Speaker C: Yeah, I also kind of just went with the suggested
- 50:54stats. highlighting the plus two being
- 50:57instinct, and the minus one being strength.
- 51:00Yes. I, feel like, as a sorcerer,
- 51:02these make sense, because as it says
- 51:05in the description, you were formed and shaped by the will of
- 51:08Arcana. And, that being said, a sorcerer
- 51:11probably uses Arcana to solve most
- 51:14of their problems.
- 51:15>> Speaker A: Right.
- 51:15>> Speaker C: And so never really the need for
- 51:18strength, but always has kind of a
- 51:21proficiency when it comes to navigation
- 51:23or sense or
- 51:26perception. okay.
- 51:28>> Speaker A: And I was going to say, my one concern would be, is that I think everybody
- 51:31here took a minus one to strength. so, yeah, that'll be
- 51:33interesting.
- 51:34>> Speaker B: We need a fourth member to our party.
- 51:37Hang on. You have an orangutan.
- 51:42>> Speaker A: Jackson, for your character. I kind of thought, like, given the kind
- 51:45of earthbender or, the orc kind of
- 51:48background, I feel like most people's first thought would be, oh, yeah, it
- 51:51makes sense that he'd be the plus two strength. But I like what you said,
- 51:53which is I've never had to rely on strength before. I
- 51:56rely on my magic to do the strength for me.
- 51:59>> Speaker C: So if Skyrim ever taught
- 52:01me anything is that orcs are very
- 52:04diverse people, it's not fair to be
- 52:07racist to them.
- 52:09>> Speaker A: Yes. Try to pigeonhole them into
- 52:11warrior type.
- 52:12>> Speaker C: They are all different types of people. We are
- 52:15beyond our stereotypes.
- 52:16>> Speaker A: Exactly. I appreciate that. And so do the
- 52:19orcs.
- 52:20>> Speaker B: Orc players.
- 52:21>> Speaker A: Yes. Awesome. So number five in the
- 52:24process is set your threshold and hope. so
- 52:26basically, this is about your damage threshold. We're not going to go
- 52:29over this because this kind of delves into the more,
- 52:32like, stat base and rules that we don't technically have just
- 52:35yet. Basically, the way that that is is you have your damage
- 52:38thresholds and there are different levels of
- 52:41that. So you've got minor, major, severe damage,
- 52:44and then you have your HP. And so, as
- 52:47I understand, taking minor damage is going to
- 52:49deal different amounts to your HP
- 52:52versus major damage. Right. You're going to have, like, oh, some dude
- 52:55punched you versus you just broke your arm
- 52:58or you just got stabbed in the chest. Those
- 53:01are going to be different levels of how bad this damage was.
- 53:04Right. but again, we don't have a whole lot of information on
- 53:07what the rules are on that, so we're going to kind of skip over those
- 53:09for now and then. Otherwise, you have your hope, which we've
- 53:12kind of mentioned a couple of times throughout here. Hope
- 53:15is kind of like a. I almost want to call
- 53:18it when you get inspiration dice. So it's kind of along
- 53:21those lines where it's going to benefit you or your
- 53:24allies, by using your experiences
- 53:27as kind of a storytelling arc to give you
- 53:30additional bonuses to your stat rolls.
- 53:32Again, something that we don't have a whole lot of information on. So there's not really
- 53:35much point in us going over it. But it does say that
- 53:38regardless, you, take two plus hope at the
- 53:41start of your campaign. so
- 53:44there's that starting weapon. if everybody
- 53:47has just kind of a general idea, there are some
- 53:50listed in the equipment, but pretty much anything that you can come
- 53:53up with if you feel like your character would have just kind of
- 53:56a really interesting specific weapon,
- 53:59what would they have basically got
- 54:01you?
- 54:04>> Speaker C: the pages suggested weapon is a dual
- 54:07staff.
- 54:07>> Speaker A: Right.
- 54:08>> Speaker C: however, I was thinking more
- 54:11along the lines of a
- 54:14spear whose
- 54:17head of the spear is more of, a
- 54:20sharpened gem in a way. So more is
- 54:23like an arcane focus in a way.
- 54:25>> Speaker A: Right.
- 54:26>> Speaker C: But also a weapon.
- 54:27>> Speaker A: Yeah, I like it. That's cool. That's cool. Dave, what
- 54:30would your, rogue be running around with in his
- 54:33froggy tendency?
- 54:36>> Speaker D: Frog hands. so
- 54:39he'd probably go with just the basic knife.
- 54:42Concealable.
- 54:45looks like the rogue still gets that sneak
- 54:48attack or melee attacks.
- 54:51So, that would benefit that. I don't know if this exists,
- 54:54but if I had another option for a starting weapon, it
- 54:57would be fun to have like a dart gun.
- 54:59>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 55:01>> Speaker D: If I'm going with like, I'm from a tree frog
- 55:04community, maybe I have a
- 55:06poison gland somewhere on my body.
- 55:09>> Speaker A: That's cool. You're able to kind of
- 55:11refill. You don't really need, like, you could pick up any little pointy,
- 55:14whatever that fits inside your dart gun, but you poison it
- 55:17yourself and then you shoot it. That'd be cool. I
- 55:20like it. Awesome. And then, Cameron,
- 55:23with your ranger, what is he wielding? What's he running
- 55:26around with?
- 55:28>> Speaker B: Can I dual wield?
- 55:29>> Speaker A: Yeah, I think you to.
- 55:31>> Speaker B: Well, as long as the weapon can be dual wield.
- 55:34>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 55:34>> Speaker B: I have two weapons of choice.
- 55:36>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 55:37>> Speaker B: one is what? It's my walking stick.
- 55:40>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 55:40>> Speaker B: I just always have on me. But if I know I'm going into combat, I'm going
- 55:43to stash that walking stick and pull out the big guns. My
- 55:46frying pan.
- 55:47>> Speaker A: Nice. I like it. I think we
- 55:50could probably homebrew the stats for just like a typical
- 55:53hammer and probably turn that. It's just going to be a
- 55:55blunt.
- 55:56>> Speaker B: Both of them are just blunt objects because
- 55:59as is very clear with my character, my
- 56:01orangutan does most of the heavy lifting for me. And mind you,
- 56:04I should have said this, when I was doing my pluses and
- 56:07stuff. those stats, my companion
- 56:10traits, I read it and it says I get two of them at the start.
- 56:12>> Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
- 56:13>> Speaker B: Say the two I took for my oring tang was climb
- 56:16and strike because I felt like those were the two most obvious
- 56:18for an orangutan.
- 56:20>> Speaker A: Right?
- 56:22>> Speaker B: So he can climb and strike.
- 56:23>> Speaker A: I like the idea that he could, because he is a
- 56:26primate, he could pick up a weapon if he wanted
- 56:29to and use it.
- 56:31>> Speaker B: Probably be more proficient than I would be with a weapon.
- 56:34You're like, oh, there's a long sword there. here you
- 56:37go. Just hand it off to him.
- 56:39>> Speaker A: He just wants the frying pan.
- 56:41>> Speaker B: You're like, no, my frying pan.
- 56:44He's trying to grab my ladle,
- 56:47not because he wants to fight with it, but because he wants more
- 56:49stew.
- 56:51>> Speaker A: Don't dirty my ladle, man. Awesome.
- 56:54Very cool. And then next up would be armor. So I'm just going to go
- 56:57through, because armor is pretty
- 56:59straightforward. You just have leather armor, you have
- 57:02breastplate armor, you have chain mail armor, and you have full play
- 57:05armor. And they all kind of either grant
- 57:08some sort of ability or just have a general armor score.
- 57:11It's very simple. So light armor is going to give you an armor score of
- 57:14three, but it also gives you a plus one to
- 57:16evasion because it is light. Breastplate
- 57:19armor doesn't give you any special abilities or anything like that. Gives you
- 57:22a five armor score. Chainmail armor, a,
- 57:25seven. But it's heavy, so it's actually going to subtract one from
- 57:28your evasion and then full plate armor, which is very
- 57:30heavy. It's going to subtract two from your evasion, one from your agility,
- 57:33but it gives you an armor score of nine.
- 57:36And basically, that's
- 57:39pretty much, like, almost spot on for DND. The more
- 57:42armor you have, the heavier it is, the more it's going to
- 57:45take away from your ability to kind of sneak around and do
- 57:48stuff like that. So that's pretty general concept.
- 57:51I don't know if we need to really talk about which armor our characters
- 57:54take. it's not the end of the world.
- 57:56>> Speaker C: You know what I would like to point out, though, on the DND
- 57:59five e character sheet, it's a pretty big empty
- 58:02box, for weapons. I mean, typically you
- 58:05have your little two lines, primary, secondary
- 58:08weapon. However,
- 58:11here your primary and secondary weapon
- 58:14are, very big
- 58:16sections of a box, and there's no real room for,
- 58:19like, oh, I picked up this weapon over here, I picked
- 58:22up this weapon here, and I can just be like, oh, I'm going to equip this
- 58:25one out of my bag. You have a primary weapon, a
- 58:28secondary weapon, and there's a space for a weapon in your
- 58:30inventory.
- 58:31>> Speaker A: Exactly. In case you want to switch out.
- 58:33>> Speaker C: So you have three weapons, which I
- 58:36think incentivizes you. Like, if you stop in a town, you'd
- 58:39be like, I put this in my
- 58:41backpack, right? I would like to put it in my inventory
- 58:44weapon. So I'm going to sell my current
- 58:47inventory weapon to kind of balance,
- 58:50it out.
- 58:50>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 58:51>> Speaker C: Because I would like this at my disposal.
- 58:52>> Speaker A: And then you also have the same thing for armor, too. You have a regular
- 58:55armor that you have on, and then you have an inventory armor. And I think this is really
- 58:58nice in situations where maybe you want to switch to light
- 59:01armor because you're sneaking through an area, although, I don't know, somebody could
- 59:04make an argument about, like, okay, well, you have the chain
- 59:07mail armor, which is normally noisy and
- 59:10subtracting from your evasion. Just because it's in your
- 59:12backpack doesn't mean it's not making any.
- 59:17Right, there you go. Okay, so there'd be a potentially,
- 59:20like, good argument for that. But anyways, yeah, so you could
- 59:23switch between armors. Of course your armor class is going to go down.
- 59:26>> Speaker C: Or change.
- 59:26>> Speaker A: Or change, exactly. But it's nice
- 59:29to have the ability to quickly jump between those two. So
- 59:32I think that's kind of neat.
- 59:45Hey, everyone. Skyler here. Are you a fan of session zero

- 1:00:26>> Speaker C: I feel like this just gives you more of an
- 1:00:30idea of how to be a broader character.
- 1:00:32>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:00:33>> Speaker C: the starter guide kind of lays out a
- 1:00:36suggested primary weapon, but that list
- 1:00:39you showed me of all of the weapons
- 1:00:42kind of gave me an idea of a primary weapon and a
- 1:00:45secondary weapon and a weapon that I would probably put in my
- 1:00:47backpack just as like a kind of catch all.
- 1:00:50>> Speaker A: Exactly.
- 1:00:50>> Speaker C: Of course, I don't know. We don't really have the rules in front of
- 1:00:53us. I don't know what you necessarily start with, but
- 1:00:56if I could start by filling out all of those, I probably
- 1:00:59would.
- 1:00:59>> Speaker A: So what it says in my character creation guide is that you can
- 1:01:02have up to two hands worth of
- 1:01:05active weapons.
- 1:01:06>> Speaker C: Right.
- 1:01:06>> Speaker A: So you could have two weapons from the get go. Yeah.
- 1:01:09>> Speaker B: Like a stick in a frying pan.
- 1:01:10>> Speaker D: What if I have a tongue?
- 1:01:16>> Speaker A: He's got a third hand.
- 1:01:19>> Speaker B: Whoa, Zoro, I thought you were playing a
- 1:01:22different one piece character.
- 1:01:25>> Speaker C: I did see that up near the active weapons, there are,
- 1:01:28two drawn hands, and that kind of
- 1:01:31symbolizes, your hands in play.
- 1:01:33>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 1:01:34>> Speaker C: So my idea of a
- 1:01:36spear, kind of. I went ahead and took the stats of a
- 1:01:39dual staff anyway.
- 1:01:40>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:01:41>> Speaker C: just because it's essentially the same thing, but both of my
- 1:01:44hands are occupied, so I cannot have a
- 1:01:47secondary weapon in my active weapons box or a
- 1:01:49shield. There were
- 1:01:52shields in that list. but I could have a
- 1:01:55secondary in my inventory. Or if I went to a single
- 1:01:58handed weapon, I probably could have three weapons on
- 1:02:01my person. In theory.
- 1:02:02>> Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:02:03>> Speaker B: How big my frying pan is, it could double as a shield.
- 1:02:06That's true. Have you ever played pub?
- 1:02:08>> Speaker A: Yeah.
- 1:02:08>> Speaker B: I was just thinking, now we're dipping into
- 1:02:10orpheus.
- 1:02:12>> Speaker D: Pan shot.
- 1:02:13>> Speaker B: Pan shot. I'm just covered in pans.
- 1:02:18>> Speaker A: So after starting armor, we go to number eight, which is take your
- 1:02:20starting inventory. this stuff is all listed underneath your
- 1:02:23character. You have different options, and there's also kind
- 1:02:26of like, things that you would normally have, kind of your
- 1:02:29classic adventures kit. You're going to have torches, rope,
- 1:02:32basic supplies, how much gold that you kind of
- 1:02:35start off with. And then it gives you a couple of options to kind of choose
- 1:02:38between. Again, this is just stuff that you'll look through
- 1:02:42with your character. You can kind of choose between, same thing
- 1:02:45kind of goes for character description, which is the number nine section on
- 1:02:48the character creation. So you're going to have, what kind of clothes
- 1:02:51do you typically wear? What do your eyes look like? What kind of build
- 1:02:54does your body have? So, on and so forth.
- 1:02:56So again, all this kind of stuff that's sort of more
- 1:02:59cosmetic, something that you get to choose between. after
- 1:03:02that, you have your domain
- 1:03:05deck. So that's what I kind of wanted to jump into next. So
- 1:03:08more cards that we're going to jump into. And this goes
- 1:03:11back to what we talked about kind of near the beginning or kind of
- 1:03:14in the class section, it was actually near the end of when we were discussing
- 1:03:17classes. Under each class, as we mentioned before, you have two kind
- 1:03:20of domains. for instance, the sorcerer, which is
- 1:03:23the one I got in front of me, has Arcana and midnight.
- 1:03:25So there are three cards for
- 1:03:28each, domain, and
- 1:03:30they give you all the level ones, which means
- 1:03:33they're going to be more later on. Right?
- 1:03:35>> Speaker B: Yeah.
- 1:03:36>> Speaker A: so level one for, like, blade, you have not
- 1:03:39good enough. You have retaliation, you have whirlwind. They're all
- 1:03:41skills that you get with your character. Now, they also have
- 1:03:44a little cost up in the top corner. We don't know
- 1:03:47what those are yet. they don't really list it in the
- 1:03:50rules that they've given out so far. And that's okay. That's something that we'll
- 1:03:53find out later on. But with each of your characters,
- 1:03:56you're going to take two cards total from the level
- 1:03:59one section of either of those domains.
- 1:04:02>> Speaker C: Don't you have other cards to look for? Did you want to try and
- 1:04:05mix match?
- 1:04:09>> Speaker D: I would pick probably either one of these and then this
- 1:04:12one.
- 1:04:12>> Speaker C: Oh, got you.
- 1:04:13>> Speaker D: You got to pick two.
- 1:04:14>> Speaker A: Yeah, two total.
- 1:04:15>> Speaker C: One from each or two from the
- 1:04:18other one.
- 1:04:19>> Speaker A: Really? Yeah. You're not limited to only
- 1:04:21Arcana or.
- 1:04:22>> Speaker B: Only you have these six traits to.
- 1:04:25>> Speaker C: Choose from, which is also kind of cool. I mean, these
- 1:04:28are kind of, we don't have a whole lot of rules, but are these kind
- 1:04:31of laid, out, like your cantrips and
- 1:04:34starting spells?
- 1:04:35>> Speaker B: These feel more like when you get a level
- 1:04:37up, every class gives you a
- 1:04:40level added perk, except if you go more spell casters,
- 1:04:43spellcasters typically are just like, sometimes just like
- 1:04:45levels. But from what it looks
- 1:04:48like, from how I was looking at it, it looks like each
- 1:04:51level. At level one, you get like the
- 1:04:54fighters get your martial class. At level two,
- 1:04:57you can heal.
- 1:04:58>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:04:59>> Speaker B: At level three, you get to pick your subclass. It looks like at each
- 1:05:01level up, you're basically just adding another perk to your
- 1:05:04character.
- 1:05:05>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:05:05>> Speaker C: Got you.
- 1:05:06>> Speaker A: Which is really cool, because, again, it really opens up the
- 1:05:09options to stem out. And you're not limited by whatever subclass
- 1:05:12that you choose.
- 1:05:13>> Speaker B: And I'm going to assume it's probably going to be like when you get to level two,
- 1:05:16you can take one of any level two within your two,
- 1:05:19or you can backward, back, go and take, like, another level
- 1:05:22one.
- 1:05:22>> Speaker A: If you, as far as I know,
- 1:05:25there's no dual classing. There might be.
- 1:05:27>> Speaker B: So there is multiclass.
- 1:05:28>> Speaker A: Is there multiclassing when you're at level.
- 1:05:30>> Speaker B: Five and an up, it says choose an additional class for your
- 1:05:33character, then cross out. So there is an option.
- 1:05:36We don't have these, but there is an option at five up
- 1:05:39where you can take an upgraded subclass. So I'm
- 1:05:42imagining one of these subclass. These are like my
- 1:05:45beastbound cards, Jackson's earth bending or
- 1:05:47whatever. They will have a back that upgraded
- 1:05:50side. And then you flip it and it goes to that. So this says, instead of
- 1:05:53taking that, you can instead multi class. And then you would choose an
- 1:05:56additional class for your character and then whatever
- 1:05:59that you would literally just take an additional class. So probably an
- 1:06:02additional subclass.
- 1:06:03>> Speaker A: So very similar to in some of the power by the
- 1:06:05apocalypse games. One of the level up options that you
- 1:06:08have usually is you can take an ability from another
- 1:06:11playbook. So I think it's going to be very similar to that to kind of
- 1:06:14just again, even further diversify your
- 1:06:17character and kind of the direction he's going in. So, with
- 1:06:20that being said, what domain cards did you guys pick? Dave,
- 1:06:23I see you got two in front of you. Unless you're still looking.
- 1:06:26>> Speaker D: yeah, I picked two. So first one is
- 1:06:29one of the grace abilities.
- 1:06:32Deft, deceiver. Spend a hope to take
- 1:06:34advantage on a role you make to deceive or trick
- 1:06:37someone into believing a lie you tell them.
- 1:06:39>> Speaker A: Awesome. Which fits your character perfectly.
- 1:06:42>> Speaker D: Other one is a midnight
- 1:06:45spell.
- 1:06:48uncanny disguise.
- 1:06:50>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 1:06:50>> Speaker D: When you have a few minutes to prepare, you can mark a stress. To don the
- 1:06:53facade of any humanoid. You can picture clearly in your
- 1:06:56mind while disguised. All presence roles to
- 1:06:59avoid scrutiny have advantage. The spell will
- 1:07:02begin to fade after 1 hour.
- 1:07:04>> Speaker A: Awesome. I like it. So you've got a disguise
- 1:07:06and another one to kind of help you with your
- 1:07:09deception, your lies, your trickery.
- 1:07:12So definitely that very roguish kind of feel
- 1:07:14there. I like it. So awesome. We'll go to Cameron.
- 1:07:17Cameron, what did you find?
- 1:07:19>> Speaker B: So first up, we were talking about the thing on the top, right?
- 1:07:22It's got a little lightning bolt thing.
- 1:07:23>> Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:24>> Speaker B: I'm not sure if it's actually a cost because the card
- 1:07:27I took is called nimble. And it says while this card
- 1:07:30is in your loadout, add your agility score to your
- 1:07:32evasion. That's just a passive.
- 1:07:34>> Speaker A: Right, right.
- 1:07:35>> Speaker B: But it does have the lightning bolt with the one on the top.
- 1:07:38Right. Okay, so if that's not a
- 1:07:41cost, it might be like, it adds something to me
- 1:07:43for just having this.
- 1:07:45>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 1:07:46>> Speaker B: Or it might have a cost to take this card, we don't know that yet, but
- 1:07:49I'm just saying that symbol doesn't mean it costs to
- 1:07:51do it. Right, because this is just a passive.
- 1:07:54>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:07:55>> Speaker B: Okay, I'm just adding that. Anyways, I took that so it fits with
- 1:07:58my character. My character is very nimble, very evasive. Right. Just
- 1:08:01from his height and stuff.
- 1:08:02>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:08:02>> Speaker B: And I would also say partly because they're distracted by the giant
- 1:08:05hulking beast to his side, they're probably less
- 1:08:08focused on him than the ring and tank.
- 1:08:11>> Speaker A: I completely agree.
- 1:08:12>> Speaker B: And then the other one, I think
- 1:08:14fits so well. it's called
- 1:08:17nature's tongue, and it says you can speak the
- 1:08:20language of the hidden natural world. And when you want to speak to
- 1:08:23the plants and animals around you, I can make an
- 1:08:26instinct role. And on a success, they'll give you the information they
- 1:08:29know.
- 1:08:29>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:08:30>> Speaker B: With fear, the knowledge might be limited or come at a cost. In
- 1:08:32addition, whenever you make a spellcast role while in a natural
- 1:08:35environment, I may spend hope before making this role to
- 1:08:38add one to the result.
- 1:08:39>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 1:08:40>> Speaker B: I feel like this just comes from seven years of having an
- 1:08:43orangutan braving down my neck.
- 1:08:48Very similar to rocket the
- 1:08:50raccoon and Groot.
- 1:08:54He didn't know, Groot. But then from just being in prison
- 1:08:56together all those years, he just one day just understood him. And I feel
- 1:08:59like that kind of makes sense with the orangutan just being together
- 1:09:02for seven straight years, and he won't leave me alone. My
- 1:09:05guy just yelled at him one day like, no,
- 1:09:08I don't have any more stew. And then he just responded
- 1:09:11in perfect English that my guy just understood
- 1:09:13orangutan. He's like, oh, no, I don't have
- 1:09:16bananas.
- 1:09:17>> Speaker A: No, stop asking me.
- 1:09:18>> Speaker B: Responding to his request. But he's speaking
- 1:09:21orangutan the whole time. But he knows exactly what he's saying in
- 1:09:24orangutan.
- 1:09:24>> Speaker A: And, yeah, ah, stew was the, starter word to help
- 1:09:27him a lot of
- 1:09:30awesome. awesome. I love it. Jackson, what do you got? What did you come up
- 1:09:33with?
- 1:09:33>> Speaker C: Yeah, so I took two arcana
- 1:09:36cards. and this arcana card
- 1:09:39might, explain the number in the corner.
- 1:09:42I took unleash chaos. And at the beginning
- 1:09:45of a session, place a number of tokens
- 1:09:47equal to your spellcast trait on this card.
- 1:09:50>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 1:09:51>> Speaker C: And if that is the little lightning bolt in the circle, that
- 1:09:54would kind of make sense.
- 1:09:55>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 1:09:55>> Speaker C: so that would be, like, one token, right. you can make a
- 1:09:58spellcast roll against a target within a far
- 1:10:01range and send any number of tokens to
- 1:10:04channel raw energy from within yourself and
- 1:10:07unleash against them on a success,
- 1:10:10roll a number of d ten equal to the
- 1:10:13tokens you spent and do that much
- 1:10:15magic damage to the target. Mark a stress
- 1:10:18to replenish this card with tokens up to your
- 1:10:21spellcast trait.
- 1:10:22>> Speaker A: Spellcast trait. Awesome.
- 1:10:24>> Speaker C: Clear all tokens at the end of session. and then the other one
- 1:10:27I took, was wall walk. And that one
- 1:10:30says, spend a hope to allow a creature you can
- 1:10:32touch to climb on walls and ceilings as easily
- 1:10:35as walking on the ground below. The spell will end
- 1:10:38after ten minutes or when, you cast it on another
- 1:10:41creature.
- 1:10:42>> Speaker A: Okay, awesome. I like it. So once we figure
- 1:10:44out how the spell cast traits work, that
- 1:10:47unleash chaos could be ridiculously
- 1:10:50powerful too.
- 1:10:51>> Speaker C: Yeah, it kind of sounded like it because I wonder if
- 1:10:54I must need to level up or something to
- 1:10:56gain more tokens. But a, d ten
- 1:10:59equal to the amount of tokens you spent
- 1:11:02could be insane. Amount of damage.
- 1:11:05>> Speaker A: Exactly. If you can get like, what, six tokens, you're
- 1:11:07basically casting fireball on your enemies and
- 1:11:10just blowing things up. I love it. That's going to be
- 1:11:13epic. Then you said, for the second
- 1:11:16one you picked.
- 1:11:17>> Speaker C: Sorry, wall walk.
- 1:11:19>> Speaker A: Okay. So then you can do your classic spider climb situation.
- 1:11:22Okay. Yeah. Awesome. Very cool. Awesome.
- 1:11:25So we've got our domains, we've got our
- 1:11:27character stuff. there are the background,
- 1:11:31questions. So on each character sheet,
- 1:11:34and I like this better than the usual. In
- 1:11:36DNd, you have your personality.
- 1:11:39Personality, your bonds, your flaws, your
- 1:11:42ideals, right? And I know every single time I
- 1:11:44make a character sheet, I have to look up, like, examples for, at the
- 1:11:47very least, ideals and bonds. Because I'm like, oh,
- 1:11:50man, how did those work again?
- 1:11:52>> Speaker C: I think, what dnd five e did well, about those,
- 1:11:55though, is they gave you a table and a table
- 1:11:58of a die that you can roll. And
- 1:12:00if you weren't sure, you could go with, like, just
- 1:12:03go with bait, which was kind of easy
- 1:12:06to do. But the asking you questions does
- 1:12:09kind of make you think about it in a different way than, yes.
- 1:12:12You would just be like, oh, this
- 1:12:15bond was kind of makes sense, I guess.
- 1:12:18>> Speaker A: Yeah, no, I completely agree. It's stuff
- 1:12:21to kind of help you along the way with sort of fleshing out
- 1:12:24your character that I think helps people think a little bit more
- 1:12:27because you always have two players, right? You
- 1:12:30have the player that fully fleshes out their character and
- 1:12:32writes you, like, a four page booklet of their
- 1:12:35backstory and why they feel certain ways
- 1:12:38about skywars okay, fair enough. It's
- 1:12:41usually me. And then you've got the other players that they
- 1:12:44come to the session and they're like, oh yeah, I didn't even fill in this stuff. I didn't know I
- 1:12:47had to. And you're like, well, who's your character? Who are you playing
- 1:12:50me? There you go.
- 1:12:53And so this kind of helps simplify the
- 1:12:56process. It's literally just a question that
- 1:12:58helps you kind of come up with ideas for your character. So for
- 1:13:01instance, again, I'm looking at the
- 1:13:04sorcerer character, sheets. Like what did
- 1:13:07you do that makes the people in your community wary of
- 1:13:09you? who finally taught you how to control the magic
- 1:13:12bursting forth from you? And why are they no longer able to
- 1:13:15guide you? Ah, you have true fear. You
- 1:13:18hide from everyone. What is it? And does it scare you? And
- 1:13:21then from there you go into step
- 1:13:24twelve, which is generating experiences. So every
- 1:13:27character is going to have two experiences. And these
- 1:13:30stem from those background questions.
- 1:13:33as I understand, these experiences can be used
- 1:13:36to add stats or add
- 1:13:39numbers to your roles if
- 1:13:42you roll based on something that's related to that
- 1:13:45experience. So jumping back to who was it that trained you?
- 1:13:47Right? How did they help you control your magic? Right. You
- 1:13:50might talk about this mentor that you had and how they
- 1:13:53trained you and stuff like that, and then that would give you a plus one in
- 1:13:56theory. from this experience to your
- 1:13:59roles, when you're controlling your magic or using your magic, things
- 1:14:02along those lines. Right. That's how I understand it.
- 1:14:05Again, the rules don't explicitly say it, but
- 1:14:08I feel pretty confident, that that's how it
- 1:14:11works. And then as far as that plus or addition
- 1:14:14to your, experience, you're going to do one at plus
- 1:14:17two and one of them at plus one as far
- 1:14:20as how they benefit you.
- 1:14:22pretty cool concept, Jackson. for
- 1:14:25your background questions, you don't have to have an answer to them,
- 1:14:28but just if you do, go for it. But otherwise, what do you
- 1:14:31have for your background questions on your,
- 1:14:34I almost wanted to say ranger source. Well, you have the swords
- 1:14:37I just read through.
- 1:14:37>> Speaker C: You were just reading. Okay, so, I mean, by all means,
- 1:14:40yeah.
- 1:14:42>> Speaker A: if you want to go for it or if you feel like you have answers. I
- 1:14:45know I'm kind of like jumping.
- 1:14:46>> Speaker C: On, know, I can think of some quick
- 1:14:49answers at the moment. when it comes to
- 1:14:52what did you do to make people in the community weary of you?
- 1:14:55I think is an interesting question because I'm
- 1:14:58kind of also thinking of sorcerer as warlock in a way
- 1:15:01where, although I was shaped by Arcana,
- 1:15:04where warlock was granted
- 1:15:06by an evil wish, being
- 1:15:09usually right, I think that, being shaped
- 1:15:12by Arcana and choosing unleash chaos, it would
- 1:15:15make sense, for at some point in
- 1:15:18my life, unleash chaos just kind
- 1:15:20of came from me in, like, a fit of anger
- 1:15:23or something, and maybe I killed somebody as
- 1:15:26a young person, and now they're like, oh,
- 1:15:29man, that guy's dangerous. Don't go near
- 1:15:32him.
- 1:15:32>> Speaker A: He can't hold on his powers.
- 1:15:34>> Speaker C: Yeah, he doesn't know how to control nothing.
- 1:15:36Lame. who finally taught you to control the
- 1:15:39magic bursting forth from you, and why are they no longer
- 1:15:42able to guide you? kind of thinking of one
- 1:15:45piece. I was kind of thinking of a character, kind of like
- 1:15:48shanks, where he was just an older
- 1:15:51individual, who from a young age
- 1:15:53influenced me. and he went on a
- 1:15:56very nondescript quest,
- 1:15:59very, far away, and I haven't seen him since it's been
- 1:16:02like, twelve years.
- 1:16:03>> Speaker A: He's somewhere out there. He's out there.
- 1:16:05>> Speaker C: He just ain't with me.
- 1:16:06>> Speaker A: He ain't.
- 1:16:08>> Speaker C: And, the last question was,
- 1:16:11you have a true fear. You hide from everyone. What is
- 1:16:14it and why does it scare you? I'm hiding it from
- 1:16:17everybody so you don't get to know.
- 1:16:19>> Speaker A: Fair point. Fair, right. All right, fair
- 1:16:22enough. We got a cool character development there with a
- 1:16:25little bit of a plot twist coming up some point.
- 1:16:28Cameron, what did you come up with? Or what are your background
- 1:16:31questions and if you had some idea on
- 1:16:34an answer for them? Yeah.
- 1:16:35>> Speaker B: So the first one says, a terrible creature hurt your community and you're
- 1:16:38bound to hunt it down. What is it?
- 1:16:40>> Speaker A: An orangutan.
- 1:16:41>> Speaker B: See, I thought that, but it
- 1:16:44says, I want to hunt it down. Yeah, and that wouldn't make
- 1:16:47sense with an orangutan. So is what is it and
- 1:16:50what unique trail or sign does it leave that would be
- 1:16:53recognizable to find it.
- 1:16:54>> Speaker A: Right.
- 1:16:54>> Speaker B: I wrote giant Snake. So, like, a giant
- 1:16:57snake was always attacking our community,
- 1:17:00which is part of the reason why we became nomadic, was to
- 1:17:03get away from it.
- 1:17:04>> Speaker A: Got you.
- 1:17:04>> Speaker B: But we would always see signs of it, as if it was following our
- 1:17:07community. He got a taste for half
- 1:17:10lanes and he just couldn't. He wanted more.
- 1:17:13And so he would always be fond of us, and we would always, like. Our
- 1:17:15scouts would go out and they would see the trail and we'd have to change
- 1:17:18locations and how we recognize it. Of course,
- 1:17:21it'd leave a giant
- 1:17:24path in the ground because it was so big. But what made it
- 1:17:26unique from other snakes, giant snakes, was
- 1:17:29it had like a zigzagging pattern to its trail. So if
- 1:17:32you looked at its trail, it had, like, this indent of a
- 1:17:35zigzag under it.
- 1:17:36>> Speaker A: Nice.
- 1:17:37>> Speaker B: As if it had, like, a bony plate that kind of
- 1:17:39stuck out on the outside and you could recognize it because of
- 1:17:42that. So anyways, if I killed that
- 1:17:45snake, I know I would avenge your.
- 1:17:48Avenge the town, right? Yeah. the next one
- 1:17:51is your first kill. Almost killed you,
- 1:17:54too. What was it? And what part of you is never the
- 1:17:57same? my first kill was a crazed porcupine,
- 1:18:00okay. Just went mad and just started attacking me one
- 1:18:03time. And, rather he lost his left
- 1:18:06eye. Oh, yeah. Just like, it's one of its
- 1:18:09bristles flew out, just hit me right in the middle.
- 1:18:11>> Speaker A: Right in the eye.
- 1:18:12>> Speaker C: It's just gone.
- 1:18:12>> Speaker A: Toothpicked your eye.
- 1:18:13>> Speaker B: My guy has. Wears an eye patch.
- 1:18:16>> Speaker A: Nice. Okay, very cool, very cool. And, yeah, I like how it
- 1:18:19kind of leads you into some character description.
- 1:18:22>> Speaker B: There was a very interesting development one day
- 1:18:25when, the orangutan kept pointing at my eye.
- 1:18:28And so, my guy lifted the eye. Show him the
- 1:18:31open socket. The orangutan was more
- 1:18:33interested than scared, which was
- 1:18:37a. Ah, good surprising response that my
- 1:18:40guy, because he'd never shown it to anyone before and he figured the first
- 1:18:43person would be scared to see it. So seeing someone more curious about
- 1:18:46it than scared made him happier with who
- 1:18:49he was.
- 1:18:49>> Speaker A: Yeah. Kind of a self confidence thing. Yeah. Okay.
- 1:18:53>> Speaker D: Is the orangutan's name given
- 1:18:56his love.
- 1:18:56>> Speaker B: For Stu Stewart,
- 1:18:59that's a really good name. I have not had a name
- 1:19:02for him, but Stuart's too good.
- 1:19:04>> Speaker A: That's pretty good.
- 1:19:05>> Speaker B: We just call him Stu.
- 1:19:08>> Speaker A: It's what he is and what he is, what he eats.
- 1:19:10>> Speaker B: He is what he is. That's Stu. I'm like, hey, that's my buddy
- 1:19:13stew. And he's like.
- 1:19:17>> Speaker A: I love it. Then my last one is, you traveled.
- 1:19:19>> Speaker B: Many dangerous land, but what land do you refuse to go?
- 1:19:22Simple answer. Cat land. Don't go to Catland.
- 1:19:25>> Speaker A: Is it a theme park or is it.
- 1:19:30>> Speaker B: I shudder. I dare not speak of cat land.
- 1:19:32>> Speaker A: They took a cat cafe and they
- 1:19:35turned it into an entire amusement park. And he
- 1:19:38refuses to go there.
- 1:19:39>> Speaker B: Never again.
- 1:19:41>> Speaker A: Never again. I
- 1:19:44have so much fur in my coffee.
- 1:19:47All right, well, that'll be it.
- 1:19:49>> Speaker B: Don't ever mention Cat lander on stew, too.
- 1:19:52You see his eyes just, like, glare up, and he's got this
- 1:19:55rage and he starts beating his chest.
- 1:19:58>> Speaker A: He starts like having almost seizure.
- 1:20:00>> Speaker B: We both don't like cat Lance.
- 1:20:01>> Speaker A: Oh, all right. So it was a shared experience. Well, hey.
- 1:20:04Experience. Yeah. There we go. There's the experience right
- 1:20:07there. Awesome. All right, Dave, you got your rogue.
- 1:20:09What are his background questions and what's he got? Kind of
- 1:20:12plotted.
- 1:20:13>> Speaker D: So what did you get caught doing that
- 1:20:16had you exiled from your home?
- 1:20:18Oh, so I chose
- 1:20:21the wildborn community. Yeah, so it'd be like a
- 1:20:24tribe of frogs, basically. So
- 1:20:27I said that I stole like
- 1:20:30the pearl crown from
- 1:20:33the royal spawn.
- 1:20:35>> Speaker A: Did he use his legacy, his special tongue,
- 1:20:38to snatch it right off their head?
- 1:20:39>> Speaker D: M so I have this idea for
- 1:20:42the frog tribe that have you ever
- 1:20:45seen like, frogs or toads? They can be kind of brutal.
- 1:20:48>> Speaker D: When they're younger and eating their siblings
- 1:20:50and whatnot.
- 1:20:52>> Speaker A: It's disturbing.
- 1:20:53>> Speaker D: So, like this frog culture, in my
- 1:20:56mind, it's like you would only have
- 1:20:59pretty much a few of your siblings that would
- 1:21:02survive or whatever. in my character, he
- 1:21:05kind of just survived by hiding most of the time.
- 1:21:07>> Speaker A: Okay.
- 1:21:08>> Speaker D: but he did develop a close relationship with one of
- 1:21:11his spawn mates.
- 1:21:14but, he knew he wasn't really
- 1:21:17going to succeed in that society because he
- 1:21:20was so small, because he was hiding all the time. He really
- 1:21:23didn't get that much food or whatever he didn't want to
- 1:21:26eat his siblings from.
- 1:21:28>> Speaker A: Maybe he did, I don't know, the other ones,
- 1:21:31not the one he had the connection with.
- 1:21:33>> Speaker D: You're right. So he stole the crown. He had to
- 1:21:36get out of there. so then the second question.
- 1:21:38You used to have a different life from this one that you've tried to leave
- 1:21:41behind you. Who from that life is still chasing
- 1:21:44you?
- 1:21:45>> Speaker A: the whole freaking tribe.
- 1:21:46>> Speaker D: Yeah, that could be like some royal
- 1:21:49guard, bounty hunters or something.
- 1:21:51>> Speaker A: I like that.
- 1:21:51>> Speaker B: That'd be cool.
- 1:21:52>> Speaker D: From the frog tribe. also, probably
- 1:21:55anybody who I stole from would also be
- 1:21:58after me. But then who from the other life are you most sad
- 1:22:01to say goodbye to? Probably my spawn
- 1:22:03mate, Norbert.
- 1:22:05>> Speaker A: Norbert. Such
- 1:22:08a great name. So wait, do you still have
- 1:22:11the crown?
- 1:22:12>> Speaker D: no, I sold that. I had to sell
- 1:22:15it to start my new life.
- 1:22:17>> Speaker A: Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense. He pawned it off. Maybe
- 1:22:20somewhere out there at some pawn shop. It's still sitting on the shelf. I
- 1:22:23guess that would be an interesting plot point too. Like, what if he was able to
- 1:22:25get it back and he gave it back to the. I mean, I don't know. They'd probably
- 1:22:28still make him pay for having stolen it for so
- 1:22:31long, but, yeah, that'd be.
- 1:22:33>> Speaker D: Well, I kind of had the idea, like, oh, maybe only
- 1:22:36one frog egg
- 1:22:39from each spawn can survive. So they all have to
- 1:22:42kill each other to be the best warrior. And my
- 1:22:45character, just like, he hid, but he developed
- 1:22:48a relationship with his brother, and his brother didn't want
- 1:22:50to eat him, so they kind of became friends, but, he still had to
- 1:22:53hide all the time. And then he realized one day, oh,
- 1:22:56I have to get out of here. He needed to steal
- 1:22:59the crown to have money to start his new life.
- 1:23:02>> Speaker A: Right. So your brother would have had to have been the one that did
- 1:23:04survive out of however many other siblings. And maybe,
- 1:23:07like, the pressure of, like, we've seen your
- 1:23:10brother running around, hiding around and stuff like that.
- 1:23:13You need to go get rid of him. It's part of
- 1:23:16tradition that there's only one. There can only be one.
- 1:23:19It'd be, oh, my gosh, what if his brother was leading
- 1:23:22the royal guards that are trying to hunt you?
- 1:23:25He's real conflicted about Prince Zuko.
- 1:23:28Inner frustration, unsurity, kind of. Oh,
- 1:23:31man, there's something really cool there. So awesome.
- 1:23:34Very cool. next up, you would do your name and
- 1:23:36pronouns. We'll skip over that. I mean, unless anybody
- 1:23:39has named our.
- 1:23:41>> Speaker B: Character, I feel that's very important. We named Orangutan.
- 1:23:43>> Speaker A: Yeah. And then after
- 1:23:46that, you would have connection questions. these
- 1:23:49are very similar to your background. And, like,
- 1:23:52you know, he has his brother and cameron has his
- 1:23:55orangutan and so on and so forth, it kind of
- 1:23:58talks. Know your connections with the people of this.
- 1:24:02Like, for instance, and I don't know if they're different on each one of the
- 1:24:05sheets, but for instance, the sorcerer, one says, who do you trust?
- 1:24:08Why do you trust me so different? Oh, you know what?
- 1:24:11>> Speaker C: You're party members.
- 1:24:12>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 1:24:13>> Speaker C: Because I feel like rather than just
- 1:24:15meeting in a tavern for the first time and all doing the same
- 1:24:18work and then being like, let's just hang out.
- 1:24:20>> Speaker A: Yes.
- 1:24:20>> Speaker C: We are starting as a party of
- 1:24:23adventurers who seemingly have done this for a
- 1:24:26while already.
- 1:24:27>> Speaker A: Yes. Or they even just recently met each other,
- 1:24:29but there's some background baiting into.
- 1:24:32>> Speaker B: Them as they're doing a mission, rather finding them
- 1:24:35all.
- 1:24:35>> Speaker A: Exactly. Because it's a little bit cliche
- 1:24:38to do it. Just the, you met an attack.
- 1:24:40>> Speaker B: Also, it's more natural for true development.
- 1:24:43You won't open up immediately to brand new people
- 1:24:45you're doing a one off adventure with.
- 1:24:47>> Speaker A: Right, exactly.
- 1:24:49>> Speaker B: People you've been doing stuff with for a while.
- 1:24:51>> Speaker A: Yes. Awesome.
- 1:24:52>> Speaker C: So obviously, I mean, Skylar's going to say
- 1:24:55it, but in the sorcerer questions, one
- 1:24:58of the things is, what have I done that makes you
- 1:25:00wary of me already? So obviously
- 1:25:03there is some, past between us,
- 1:25:06right?
- 1:25:07>> Speaker A: Something that'll come up and it'll be
- 1:25:10part of the narrative. It'll be an emotional moment, more
- 1:25:13unlikely. That'll kind of create more depth to
- 1:25:16the characters and create more. Some controversy,
- 1:25:19probably.
- 1:25:19>> Speaker D: So that's interesting. You kind of have to maybe
- 1:25:22work with your party members because you could be
- 1:25:25like, here, this is what your
- 1:25:28character did. And be like my character. You might have to
- 1:25:31do kind of, workshop it. Yeah, no,
- 1:25:33but maybe kind of
- 1:25:37work with the suggestions. Because what if your
- 1:25:40character, oh, that one time where he murdered all the children
- 1:25:43in that orphanage?
- 1:25:44>> Speaker B: You'd be like, no, I wouldn't do
- 1:25:47that.
- 1:25:48>> Speaker A: My serif, who worships the God of
- 1:25:51life. No, I don't think he.
- 1:25:54Awesome. All right, that's pretty
- 1:25:57much everything that is currently released for
- 1:26:00character creation. again, it's really well designed on the
- 1:26:03character creation sheet. You've got places for your armor, your evasion,
- 1:26:06all your stats, everything like that. just to kind of
- 1:26:09pitch my idea for one that I did here,
- 1:26:11so I can have a little bit of fun as well. So I did a
- 1:26:14sorcerer as well. His name is, Levi
- 1:26:17Christopherson. He him. I picked
- 1:26:20the qatari, the sort of feline
- 1:26:22race I love playing.
- 1:26:25Kind of, yes.
- 1:26:28>> Speaker B: I'm so glad none of you picked katari.
- 1:26:32>> Speaker A: This is assuming I'm running anything. I was
- 1:26:35thinking you would and then I'd get to play this guy.
- 1:26:37>> Speaker B: Oh, no.
- 1:26:38>> Speaker A: My favorite characters to play are always the kind of
- 1:26:41like naughty troublemaker types and stuff like that. So
- 1:26:44I often will lean towards rogues, warlocks,
- 1:26:47and, bards. I
- 1:26:50really couldn't decide. I had a lot of difficulty deciding
- 1:26:53between the bard and the sorcerer, but the more I looked
- 1:26:56into the domain cards that come
- 1:26:58with both, I felt like sorcerer felt a little bit more
- 1:27:01towards this realm. So Levi, Christopher,
- 1:27:05Katari, he comes from the Slyborn
- 1:27:07community, and I used the primal origin
- 1:27:10subclass instead of the one that you picked, Jackson. so I like
- 1:27:13that we were able to snag two different ones. Highest
- 1:27:16status in agility. I, kind of had this idea that he
- 1:27:19kind of had like, kind of a roguish thing going on. So he's
- 1:27:22kind of nimble. He's used to kind of causing trouble
- 1:27:25in town, having to run out of there. Very Aladdin. strength,
- 1:27:28of course, is his minus one like everybody else's,
- 1:27:31because who cares about strength? I
- 1:27:33did take the dual staff because I'm like, oh, my gosh, it's like
- 1:27:36gambit or something. I thought that was kind of cool.
- 1:27:39but otherwise. So with Arcana, I thought
- 1:27:42about taking the unleashed chaos as well. So kind of having just
- 1:27:45that massive explosion of potential damage at
- 1:27:48some point for, midnight, I think I also took
- 1:27:51the uncanny disguise that you took Dave for your
- 1:27:53rogue, just to kind of give me that classic,
- 1:27:56like, I can change my appearance and kind of sneak around and do
- 1:27:59stuff like that. one of my favorite characters I ever played was a
- 1:28:02changeling in Dungeons and dragons, and that was kind of his whole thing
- 1:28:05was he had just a wardrobe of
- 1:28:07costumes, and then he would shape shift into people
- 1:28:10that he had met along the way, change into the appropriate outfit,
- 1:28:13and then just go mess with people. So that's
- 1:28:16kind of what I'm going for, for this, kind of being able to replay that. But
- 1:28:19again, that's pretty much everything there is to know about
- 1:28:22the character creation. We hope that you guys try out dagger heart,
- 1:28:25of course, and then we will soon be able to
- 1:28:28probably, well, the same time this episode comes out will be
- 1:28:31when they release a lot of the other information, and they
- 1:28:34open it up to everybody because we're not allowed to talk about it until then.
- 1:28:37So definitely check out dagger heart. Definitely try it out.
- 1:28:40I know we are looking at, possible opportunities in
- 1:28:43the future to hopefully be able to try out dagger heart as a
- 1:28:46campaign, but we'll see kind of where things go as far as schedules
- 1:28:49and stuff. but definitely check it out. Check out the rules. Check out
- 1:28:52the character creation. Have some fun with it. this has been an
- 1:28:55episode, kind of a special episode of session zero heroes. So
- 1:28:57definitely check out the stuff that we've got. Vendors and brews. Season three
- 1:29:00is airing right now. unless you're listening to this episode
- 1:29:03way down the line, but whatever the case, thank you all
- 1:29:06for joining. We'll see you guys next time.
- 1:29:12Our.
