- 0:00Speaker 1: Final segment with Maggie Veoni from ct Insider dot Com.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Huskies will take on De Paul and their conference home
- 0:06Speaker 1: opener Sunday twelve thirty on the radio. Blue Demons are
- 0:09Speaker 1: playing Marquette tonight. It's certainly not the same The Paul
- 0:13Speaker 1: team that we've seen in the past, but we'll worry
- 0:15Speaker 1: about that on Sunday. Blaca kenonez. She is fun to
- 0:21Speaker 1: watch and I cannot wait to see what she does
- 0:24Speaker 1: over the next three years. Once Gino reels her in
- 0:27Speaker 1: a little bit, just a little bit, because he likes that,
- 0:30Speaker 1: you know, take your chance type thing, and she's certainly confident.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But boy, she's another special one.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well yeah, I think she has been such a fun
- 0:39Speaker 2: surprise for the tuconk team. Right she came into stores
- 0:42Speaker 2: and some people kind of you about her, some people didn't.
- 0:45Speaker 2: There was a lot of highlights of her from playing
- 0:47Speaker 2: overseas in Italy. But the way she has just jumped in,
- 0:51Speaker 2: like she doesn't look like a freshman, right, Like she
- 0:54Speaker 2: looks like she knows her basketball queue is really high.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You can see that the moves he's making, the moves
- 0:59Speaker 2: she's trying to be are very like veteran moves, but
- 1:02Speaker 2: like you said, I think once she kind of gets
- 1:04Speaker 2: settled a little bit more feels the rhythm of the game,
- 1:08Speaker 2: should be able to tone back, tone back those turnovers
- 1:11Speaker 2: and those styles. But she looks incredible and I think
- 1:14Speaker 2: that's gonna be a huge off the bench boost for them.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and you mentioned ali Isabelle the confidence she's in
- 1:19Speaker 1: better shape too. Who's been the most pleasant surprise of
- 1:22Speaker 1: anybody on this team so far?
- 1:24Speaker 3: That's contributed.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, as I could pick one player, I
- 1:28Speaker 2: think Blanco obviously was a great surprise. Alie has been
- 1:32Speaker 2: really fun to watch her to step into that role
- 1:34Speaker 2: of hey, I can jump in when you need me,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and I can hit shots when you need.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And I think also kk Kay's leadership.
- 1:41Speaker 2: To me has been very, very fun to watch her
- 1:43Speaker 2: stepping into that role of now the point guard. Right.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You know, we've seen her be a point guard, we're
- 1:49Speaker 2: going to be a backup point guard.
- 1:50Speaker 3: But now she's the point guard, and you see her.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Leading more, you see her directing, you see her calling plays,
- 1:54Speaker 2: calling huddles. I think her just poise on the court
- 1:58Speaker 2: has really shifted too. Now she is relaxed and in control.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Not that she was never not in control, but I
- 2:04Speaker 2: feel like now stepping into the leadership spot, you see
- 2:07Speaker 2: her a little bit more taking a breath and fighting
- 2:10Speaker 2: her pace instead of forcing things to happen.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Kk, I think at least as of Sunday or
- 2:15Speaker 1: Tuesday was fifth nationally and assistant turnover and number one
- 2:18Speaker 1: is you know her teammate has it all? Okay, Sunday
- 2:23Speaker 1: it's the Paul. Then you get some testers, go to
- 2:26Speaker 1: USC Marquette ope for the conference season, and I think
- 2:30Speaker 1: I was going to push him at Barkley Center. Those
- 2:33Speaker 1: are three good games. I think we're gonna find out
- 2:35Speaker 1: a little more about this basketball team.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Absolutely, and I think those are the only three tests
- 2:39Speaker 2: until we really get to Notre Dame in Tennessee down
- 2:42Speaker 2: in January February. I have what looks really good. I
- 2:45Speaker 2: think USC does look is getting not off credit for
- 2:49Speaker 2: what they are. Yes, they don't have Juju, but they've
- 2:51Speaker 2: had six months to plan with what they'll look.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Like without Juju. Right, they know who they need to
- 2:56Speaker 3: step up, they need who need they know who needs
- 2:58Speaker 3: to do what.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I think that they surely hit some bumps so far
- 3:02Speaker 2: this year, but I think they look very good and
- 3:03Speaker 2: I think that game isn't gonna go as people think
- 3:06Speaker 2: it's gonna go in terms of just the fight and
- 3:10Speaker 2: competition they're gonna bring. You know, it's in La right,
- 3:12Speaker 2: they have the home crowd there. It'll be a really
- 3:14Speaker 2: big game. So I'm very excited to see how that
- 3:17Speaker 2: plays out.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they hit some free throws. They should have beaten
- 3:20Speaker 1: Notre Dame in South Bend. They had a tough day
- 3:22Speaker 1: at the free throw line. Uh is Marquette the second
- 3:25Speaker 1: best team in the Big East in your mind? Or
- 3:27Speaker 1: is Villanova?
- 3:29Speaker 3: I mean I might being towards Marquette. You know, they
- 3:33Speaker 3: brought back everybody. Did you see that?
- 3:35Speaker 2: They It was a single piece, which is just like
- 3:37Speaker 2: unheard of in this era. So I think that's really
- 3:40Speaker 2: gonna help them in terms of their chemistry, in terms
- 3:42Speaker 2: of just you know, they don't have to restart, right,
- 3:45Speaker 2: they already are at this level.
- 3:46Speaker 3: They already were.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Challenging newkn a lot last year. So I think they'll
- 3:49Speaker 2: probably be number two. Creating unfortunately lost a lot of
- 3:52Speaker 2: pieces just graduation, They lost their whole core. So I'm
- 3:55Speaker 2: curious to see how they'll look. But I think Villanova
- 3:58Speaker 2: will be right behind Marquette in terms of challenging you
- 4:00Speaker 2: call on in terms of really being that maybe number three,
- 4:04Speaker 2: number four spot.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah, what about nationally they say hell Is Shoes number
- 4:09Speaker 1: one in the net rankings. They haven't played anybody. I
- 4:12Speaker 1: understand they're scoring the basketball, they haven't played anybody.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yet, right, I mean to me, I don't know how
- 4:19Speaker 2: much net rankings really.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Matter until, yeah, especially on the December.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Exactly exactly when you really have not some teams have
- 4:29Speaker 2: really not played anybody worth your time. So I yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 2: they'll shake its about how it needs to shake itself out.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Where did you have Duke at the beginning of the year.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It seems like they have been the biggest disappointment of anybody.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean, they went to South Florida and they got
- 4:45Speaker 1: smacked by the goals, the same team that you kind
- 4:48Speaker 1: of just smacked around on two.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I was honestly surprised at how high they were
- 4:54Speaker 2: ranked to begin of the year. I don't think I
- 4:56Speaker 2: did not have them that high. I think I have
- 4:57Speaker 2: the double check. I think I have them like in
- 5:00Speaker 2: the mid teens, maybe be like fourteen, but I did
- 5:04Speaker 2: not have them in the top ten.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So I was so surprised that they made it in there.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I don't know, you know, I think they've really fallen.
- 5:12Speaker 2: NC State has fallen, right, you know, they were out
- 5:14Speaker 2: of the pool. They had a good win or not sorry,
- 5:17Speaker 2: not a good one, a good loss yesterday against Oklahoma.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But there's been some teams I think that had a
- 5:23Speaker 2: lot of hype coming in that maybe quite haven't put
- 5:26Speaker 2: all the pieces together just yet, and maybe I don't know,
- 5:28Speaker 2: maybe they'll come back.
- 5:29Speaker 3: They'll look a lot better come March.
- 5:30Speaker 2: You know, March is totally a season away from where
- 5:32Speaker 2: it is now, but there's I think the consistent top
- 5:37Speaker 2: six seven are like the top will be the top
- 5:40Speaker 2: leaders throughout the season.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Duke gets LSU tonight, by the way at home. Finally,
- 5:44Speaker 1: interesting take from Gino on a zoom pall last week
- 5:48Speaker 1: about the possibility of not going to MTES anymore unless
- 5:52Speaker 1: maybe you go to Vegas. That Vegas event. I mean,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's lucrative, but it changes the whole landscape of both
- 5:59Speaker 1: men's and women's events around Thanksgiving, right, I.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Would imagine they go back to some you know, I
- 6:07Speaker 2: think Yukon and Gino really liked that, you know, Thanksgiving
- 6:10Speaker 2: window of doing something that week. I know next year,
- 6:13Speaker 2: they've already committed to play in South Carolina. I'm ohegan
- 6:16Speaker 2: Thanksgiving a week, but who knows, maybe they'll find somewhere
- 6:20Speaker 2: warm to go, you know, early November, early December. Selfishly,
- 6:23Speaker 2: I would really like that, but I think it's a
- 6:26Speaker 2: fun way to get more to see more competitive teams early,
- 6:31Speaker 2: you know, Yukon. That's something that they always try to
- 6:33Speaker 2: do with their non conference schedule, is schedule really good
- 6:35Speaker 2: teams early and then kind of that way, it sets
- 6:38Speaker 2: them up not only for a Biggies but more supportently
- 6:40Speaker 2: for March, and so I feel like I wouldn't be
- 6:42Speaker 2: surprised if they go back. I think Vegas would be
- 6:45Speaker 2: really fun, but I also think Vegas is a lot
- 6:48Speaker 2: like you said, it's a totally different environment. It's a
- 6:50Speaker 2: different kind of tournament. So I feel like that, I
- 6:53Speaker 2: don't know, I don't know. I feel like it'd be
- 6:54Speaker 2: interesting to see them compete in that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Nothing will ever tap the Cayman, so nothing, that's right.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I had two very nice ladies for Thanksgiving dinner. One
- 7:04Speaker 1: was named Debbie, the other one was named Maggie.
- 7:06Speaker 3: It was a wonder time. One of my favorite thanks
- 7:08Speaker 3: Gies was fun.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Maggie, thank you for a few minutes.
- 7:11Speaker 3: We'll see you Sunday, see you Sunday. Thank you for
- 7:13Speaker 3: having me on.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You're very welcome that I'll do it for the coaches
- 7:16Speaker 1: show for tonight twelve thirty for the pre game coming
- 7:18Speaker 1: up on Sunday from Gample. We hope you'll join us
- 7:20Speaker 1: for coach Oriema and Maggie, I'm Bob Joys. Thanks for
- 7:23Speaker 1: tuning in. We'll catch you next time.
