Transcript
- 0:00Really is that long But I look at it like a privilege and honor
- 0:03of damn I'm so lucky man. I never thought it would have
- 0:06made it past that first lineup in EP and all that because that
- 0:09was just a ruckus mess. Well, time.
- 0:17What's up everybodyitskeithy@ghostcultman.com
- 0:21I am once again honestly so lucky to hang out and talk to
- 0:25Richie Cavallera from Insight. How you doing brother?
- 0:27Ah. Always good, man, especially
- 0:29when I'm rapping with Ghost Colt and Keith man.
- 0:32Always a pleasure, man. Good.
- 0:33To see you. Always good to see you man.
- 0:35I've run into you at shows when you're slick in merch.
- 0:38I see you on the road with your band.
- 0:39I mean, we've, we've been lucky to follow you, you, you have
- 0:44this band almost 20 years, over 20 years now technically because
- 0:47the first EP was 21 years ago. So man, first of all, wow.
- 0:51Right. Because to do anything for a
- 0:52long time and stay consistent, it's hard.
- 0:55So props to you. Thank you, man.
- 0:57Yeah, it's crazy hearing that and all the interviews.
- 0:59It's like, fuck, it really is that long.
- 1:02But I I look at it like a privilege and honor of damn I'm
- 1:06so lucky man. I never thought it would have
- 1:07made it past that first lineup in EP and all that shit because
- 1:10that was just a ruckus mess. Well, I mean, everybody's first
- 1:14thing, right is like a hurry, you know, like I've worked hard
- 1:17at this for a while, but then it kind of snowballs with time,
- 1:20right? Time is the big enemy of all of
- 1:22all things, right? Just we're in a constant state
- 1:24of ebb and flow with it. And but yeah, man, I mean 7/7
- 1:28full length albums in a couple of banging EPS, like, you know,
- 1:32everybody says this is your best work is definitely the hardest
- 1:36insight record. There's no fall off.
- 1:38I like that you're trying new things vocally.
- 1:41And I wanted to jump in. So we were talking a little bit
- 1:43offline about Lane coming into the band and you said that he
- 1:46had a big hand in writing this record.
- 1:47So what was it like this writing process go around for you?
- 1:51I mean this is like the freest 1 I think we've ever had.
- 1:55You know, we did like 5 records prior to Wake Up Dead that we're
- 2:00all kind of just like rap shoots in the way the the recording,
- 2:04the writing was put together. So I think we always had great
- 2:08things on records. But as you know, it just, it
- 2:11didn't hit to where we knew we could get this band to.
- 2:15You know, Wake of Dead became that that pivotal moment where
- 2:19we let Lennon become a writer and really just drive the band
- 2:24to where we wanted to go. Removing the X guitar player
- 2:28that had done the previous records, just like, you know,
- 2:31just put a stale taste in our mouth during the recording and
- 2:34writing and stuff like that to where it was just like imploded
- 2:37and it was like, all right, let's get this right.
- 2:39Let's do it right. This is probably the the way it
- 2:42needs to be and Lane coming in just completed that.
- 2:45You know, Lennon L and me trio that needed that other guy, man,
- 2:49and he he's just been a blessing.
- 2:51He's so humble. He works his ass off.
- 2:54He loves doing this. He loves, you know, like we
- 2:57don't have roadies, we don't have all that glamorous tour
- 2:59bus, all that stuff. So you've got to be cool with
- 3:01riding in the van. You've got to be cool doing your
- 3:03own gear. And he has.
- 3:05And then then proceeding on to writing it just, it just floored
- 3:09us what he was able to bring to the table.
- 3:12You know, he wasn't afraid to introduce things to us.
- 3:16He wasn't afraid to be like, yo, check this out or speak up and
- 3:19really be involved. And that was just incredible.
- 3:22And, you know, usually we'd always done it through like
- 3:25e-mail or, you know, you know, Dropbox and shit like that.
- 3:30So we, we had Lennon and him actually get together for quite
- 3:34a few weeks and actually write together.
- 3:36And I think that's, that's what you're hearing.
- 3:37You're hearing this, this growth, this organic feel, this
- 3:41fresh feeling, a rebirth of insight, kind of putting it all
- 3:45together finally, you know, taking everything we've done in
- 3:48the past, putting it on one record and making it even better
- 3:51and more expansive. Oh.
- 3:52I love that so much for you. And Elle is one of my favorite
- 3:54people because I played bass and and Elle is one of my favorite
- 3:57people performers in the business.
- 3:59And it's good that you you got at least that one pillar guy.
- 4:02He's been with you a very long time, probably the longest
- 4:05serving member of the band beside you, obviously your band.
- 4:07But yeah, it's really cool to be able to also still have that,
- 4:10you know, those new fresh things with the guy that's been with
- 4:13you a long time. Keeping it, you know, keeping it
- 4:15fresh and not and and being able to kind of still have that
- 4:18consistency is important. Yeah, I think that's why it's
- 4:21lasted as long as having, you know, Ellen Lennon in me.
- 4:25I think now it's 13 years. The three of us have done this
- 4:29and that. That makes it worth so much
- 4:32more. You know, when when you finally
- 4:35have that consistency like over half of the band now has, you
- 4:39know, over the, the half of the lifetime of the band, those guys
- 4:43have been there with me and we've been through so much crap
- 4:45and shit. Good times.
- 4:46That fucking awesome to feel like the vibe everybody's
- 4:50getting from this album, how everybody's digging lane.
- 4:53And you know that that's cool. You know, we didn't just blow up
- 4:56the 1st 2 records. We, we did a nice incline and
- 4:59we're able to create albums of not chasing the predecessor.
- 5:02And I think that's the coolest thing about Insight.
- 5:05And that's really hard in this day and age in the music
- 5:07business. And a shout out to your recent
- 5:09new label, Raining Phoenix Music, who are doing the
- 5:12phenomenal job with Y'all and every band they have.
- 5:14Because it's really can't. We're in this kind of singles
- 5:18era where pop and and hip hop and rap and in the country and
- 5:21other styles of music are really always chasing that next high,
- 5:25that next big surge. And I think for rock and metal,
- 5:28we're still, you know, it's nice when something big happens, like
- 5:32the recent Ghost and Sleep Token records.
- 5:34Whether you like those bands or not, it's huge for rock and
- 5:36metal to have bands with the number one record.
- 5:38It's a rarity for us these days, so it's really cool to actually
- 5:43hear that you're allowed to do that.
- 5:45You're giving yourself the agency to keep doing that.
- 5:47Because I do think there's a kind of a rut that the major
- 5:51metal labels and rock labels can fall into where they're trying
- 5:55to get the bands to the next plateau.
- 5:57And that's important. You got to keep getting better
- 6:00or can't do this anymore. Like every job, if you fuck up
- 6:03the fries at McDonald's, you can't work at McDonald's
- 6:05anymore. And so you can't turn in a bad
- 6:07record. But like just the ability to be
- 6:09yourself naturally and authentically, I think that's
- 6:12really important. Instead of just, oh, we brought
- 6:14in the Super producer to make the click track and then this
- 6:17and that. It's like, no, like they wanted
- 6:19you to be you and that's why they signed you.
- 6:20Yeah, and really cool thing about our just our path is, you
- 6:24know, we we never jumped to the chance to be with those big time
- 6:27people. We were always with the most
- 6:29underground independent label because it allowed us to have
- 6:33the freedom to work with people like, you know, Matt Hyde and
- 6:37all Steve Evans and, you know, Dan Seagrave an artist, and
- 6:41Andrei Buzikoff an artist. And that that's just been the
- 6:44most incredible feeling, you know, having someone that's
- 6:48believed in us for so long, like Minus Said Records and Brad
- 6:51Hardy to get us to this place. I don't think any other lineup
- 6:55or any other record phase could have been prepared to grow and
- 6:59be really big. I think now with what we've been
- 7:02through and where we've been now, we're putting this fucking
- 7:06incredible team together from RPM and Gerardo and Oscar to,
- 7:11you know, C ^2 PR to our new management FM music, who, you
- 7:17know, Testament and Exodus and Death Angel and all these bands
- 7:21that are really old school legacy bands that you know, are
- 7:25proving to be bigger now than they may have ever been.
- 7:27And that's because of the team, man.
- 7:29And I never realized how important that it was, you know,
- 7:33to, to really taking your bands to the next level is having
- 7:36everybody in the right place, man, from an agent to the band
- 7:39members to, you know, the record label and everything in between.
- 7:43So I think we're seeing that happen now.
- 7:45And that's the cool thing I think about metal is it's a,
- 7:49it's a thing that usually takes bands, you know, 10-15 years to
- 7:52really get to that next level. So we really nurtured
- 7:56development and the metal scene opposed to those other ones
- 7:59where they're just, you know, shitting out what's hot and you
- 8:01may never hear from them again tomorrow.
- 8:03So metal is great like that, man.
- 8:05Fans are metal heads are great and accepting a band and going
- 8:09on the ride with them, you know? Right on.
- 8:11There's actual data that says metal fans are the most loyal
- 8:13fans of music of any of the streaming services and stuff
- 8:16like that. For what it's worth, for what
- 8:19it's worth, we're the most loyal repeat listeners, which shows.
- 8:22And so the new album is Savage New Times, right?
- 8:24And coming out on Raining Phoenix in August.
- 8:27So we're getting to talk about this a little early.
- 8:29I've been lucky to hear this thing a few times and I'm so
- 8:32digging it. And I want to start with one
- 8:33thing. I know you mentioned Steve and
- 8:35I'm going to get to him in a second, but I feel like your
- 8:38lyrics are always really underrated because I've seen you
- 8:40live and you're so ferocious live and I think people are just
- 8:43blown away if they hadn't already been familiar with you
- 8:46like new fans. But I really love you really
- 8:49went in on some really cool lyrics on this record.
- 8:51Much more, I think, like very personal but also kind of
- 8:54topical. And I wanted to ask you what
- 8:56some of your inspirations were for this record.
- 8:58Yeah, the style totally to me really exploded in, you know,
- 9:04one might start working with Steve and each record from
- 9:07oppression on got a little bit more better, you know, the, the
- 9:11the presence became more refined, the lyrical patterns
- 9:15and the word usage became more refined to where, you know, wake
- 9:18up dead hit. And I, I felt like I was really
- 9:20coming into my own as a lyricist and a performer at the same
- 9:24time, which was so exciting. I was really diving into what I
- 9:28was writing and how I was writing it and making it hit
- 9:31harder with less, you know, and I feel I accomplished that on
- 9:35this record. This this to me is like the
- 9:38Richie I've been looking for that I knew was fucking in there
- 9:42in terms of the studio process, you know, the live guy.
- 9:45I think I've I've got that, you know, but it was like putting
- 9:48the studio with what I can do live and how I do a live that it
- 9:52just it clicked on this one man. We we tried songs like just a
- 9:56rat. I think that that kind of broke
- 9:58the mold with the last word deadbeat, you know, to think,
- 10:01Oh, I can, you know, go to this style and have it be really
- 10:05cool. So to hit that again, but even
- 10:07harder with just a rat was so much fun.
- 10:10And then songs like, you know, chucked off.
- 10:12I think the lyrical play that I work on those lines is so
- 10:16fucking cool, man, And I never really been that fired up for my
- 10:20my lines, you know, So I felt like I was really nailing it
- 10:23there, you know, and Dolores a whole new vocal style that I I
- 10:29never knew I could do. It was just a matter of like,
- 10:32Hey, I just got to got to try it.
- 10:34You know, I had to pass Elle's test of it being heavy enough
- 10:37and cool enough, you know, or else I was so scared dude, to
- 10:41like show him these lyrics in this song.
- 10:43But I'm like, dude, this is the music.
- 10:45Like it has to be this way. And, you know, he came up with
- 10:48the really cool idea of having the deep voice for the chorus
- 10:52that emulate like the black metal old school kind of feel to
- 10:57the thing. And yeah, just, it came out
- 10:59great, man. And I'm, I'm really impressed
- 11:02with Steve Evans again, what him pushing me, man.
- 11:05Like he he did it in the best way.
- 11:07Like he would just be like, dude, I'm working with you.
- 11:09You're you're better than this. We can be better than this.
- 11:11And, you know, really dissecting the lyrics and being like, what
- 11:14does this mean to you? You know, that that was that was
- 11:17something different. And it was just, man, it, it
- 11:20just made me feel like I've got this shit going in the right
- 11:23direction better than I ever have.
- 11:25And I feel really excited to begin riding the next one.
- 11:28Awesome man, I'm so glad to hear it.
- 11:29Yeah, just a rat is banging. It's got fire bars.
- 11:33I think we know you could rhyme and and and drop a flow like
- 11:37almost a rap verse, but like it's real prevalent there and
- 11:41you really, you know, but it's also still like a metal song.
- 11:44But it's it's hard man and I love how hard you go.
- 11:47It's like kind of a, you know, a new element.
- 11:49I think about Randy Bly when he started to do melodic vocals
- 11:52after like 25 years in Lamb of God and Burn the Priest.
- 11:55And he was like, I finally found a song that meant enough for me
- 11:58to try a melody. And Dan was like, OK, cool,
- 12:02we'll just trust you. And I like that you have the
- 12:04same kind of vibe with your guys.
- 12:06Yeah, man, it felt like every song there was something we were
- 12:08touching on that was new and just expanding on the boundaries
- 12:13and what we had always been I. Love hearing it.
- 12:17And then so also because you mentioned Lane and these songs
- 12:21with Lane and Lennon coming in and really taking over that
- 12:24process. Did they make stuff that was
- 12:26just tailor made for you because they've worked with you for so
- 12:29long, they know what you will flow well with?
- 12:31Or did they push themselves to us?
- 12:32Because I hear a lot of interesting, different stuff
- 12:35than any of your other records on here.
- 12:37Just just for, honestly. Yeah, I think that had a lot to
- 12:40do with it. Lennon, you know, playing with
- 12:42me. And like our old writer, he
- 12:43would write what he what he cared about what what what
- 12:47didn't give a shit about the input of other people.
- 12:49So now to have Lennon doing it where he is like, you know, the
- 12:53guy, he's been there for so long.
- 12:55He understands what I'm good at, what I'm not good at, what the L
- 12:58is good at. So that that really created the
- 13:01songs to to to shift into more of what we've always been
- 13:05searching for this this energy and things that we were able to
- 13:09do live. And now you're hearing that
- 13:11first class on the record and Lane coming in with so much
- 13:14artistic ability to the drop in and play piano like you did on
- 13:18Dolores. So then do 12 string on doubts
- 13:20and the fears, like he just really was able to do things
- 13:24that we hadn't had. And you know, his his soloing
- 13:27ability is just incredible. His lead work is incredible.
- 13:31I think his tone is nasty. Like I think that's what stands
- 13:36out to me so much on this record is that guitar tone.
- 13:39It's like, damn, like you don't forget it.
- 13:42And I love that. And his live performance
- 13:45literally meets up to what he's doing on that record.
- 13:47So for people that haven't seen him, to get to see what he does
- 13:51and shred like he does is just going to be so exciting for
- 13:54metal heads across the country. And yeah, the process was just
- 13:59better. And every aspect, you know, and
- 14:01him being such a huge part of that, we even went to like, you
- 14:04know, always be recorded, brother.
- 14:05And it'd be like Orange County, sunny, real laid back kind of
- 14:10environment. And this one was like, we went
- 14:12to New Jersey freezing cold in winter in the the hood, man.
- 14:17And then, you know, gunshots at night.
- 14:18You're not sleeping, you're fucking, you're in it.
- 14:21And we really dived into this record fully because of the
- 14:24environment changing, not being so, you know, sunny and happy,
- 14:28which is cool as well. That's amazing, and there's a
- 14:30reason why Black Sabbath is from Birmingham, Maryland and The
- 14:33Beach Boys are from California. But also, I do feel like there
- 14:36is a very gritty East Coast, a little bit East Coast hardcore,
- 14:38which you've always had a love for, you know, you grew up
- 14:41around it. And so Steve, I'm so glad you as
- 14:44always helping me with my segways, like Telepathy.
- 14:47I was going to talk about the guitar also the guitar tone.
- 14:49Like I finally feel like the sound of this record matches the
- 14:52material in the best possible way.
- 14:55And Steve is a genius. I wanted to ask you if you had
- 14:57any favorite records of Steve's before you started working with
- 15:01him, because he's so versatile and so great for so long.
- 15:06I really don't actually know how he does it.
- 15:08When you look up his discords, everybody, the guy is a beast.
- 15:11He's done every band you like. He's either recorded them or
- 15:14somebody influenced by them. For real.
- 15:16Yeah. Yeah, I think that's what I love
- 15:19so much about his ideas that he brings to the table.
- 15:22It's just his broad spectrum of music that he messes with from
- 15:27Prong, who I think was a huge influence on me from like the
- 15:30early, you know, Prong, Pantera, Subalternator, where I really
- 15:33got to see Tommy. And, you know, we toured with
- 15:36him later to totally bond and, you know, talked about Steve
- 15:39quite a bit on that tour. And Perseverance, I think by Hey
- 15:42Breed is the one that stands out with me that got me interested
- 15:46to look in Steve's direction. And obviously like Suicide
- 15:49Silence. And my uncle had done a sepultur
- 15:52record actually with him and, you know, talk nothing but good
- 15:56things about Steven. When we first met him, it was
- 15:59like, dude, you're, you're the 5th member.
- 16:01You know, like he comes in and you know, he's got his notebook
- 16:05and he's fucking dialed in. But he's really always happy and
- 16:08smiling and he gets the dance going and he's involved with all
- 16:12the jokes and it just really makes the situation comfortable
- 16:16where you're like, I will trust this guy and everything he says.
- 16:20Not only because of his catalog that he's done, but who he is as
- 16:24a person. And I think that's why we've had
- 16:26him for four records now in a row and just love him more and
- 16:30more. We call him Party V and he, he
- 16:34just dialed in man. His process really got better
- 16:36now too, with us, like him having his own studio again back
- 16:40in New Jersey or in his element. It became just a different
- 16:45project from all the three we had done with him.
- 16:47You know, the atmosphere was a huge change of pace.
- 16:50And again, just him constructing the songs with us, you know,
- 16:54going through them with a fine comb and knowing what the band
- 16:57is and can do just really contributes, you know, I think
- 17:00changing the artist or the producer too much can not be the
- 17:05best thing. You know, I worked with a couple
- 17:07people at the beginning and it was always different and, you
- 17:09know, just so much in the air to where you can really focus on
- 17:12jam and like, like we can get to now with Steven, It'll probably
- 17:16be him for the rest of our our career, I would think.
- 17:19And you know, we we brought an Arthur risk, which was
- 17:22phenomenal too, man. Like him to put the final
- 17:25touches on mastering was just like, whoa, so much beef came
- 17:29in. And you know, hear him how fired
- 17:31up he was about it with how much he's done was really cool too,
- 17:34you know? And he's also a hella
- 17:36accomplished producer himself. And guitar player and artist.
- 17:40And yeah, I was going to say it's fun to know that Steve's
- 17:42element is the hood with gunshots.
- 17:44And you know, we have many. Prong is one of my favorite
- 17:48bands ever. I have many Tommy stories.
- 17:50We've interviewed Tommy a ton. I knew Tommy from the CBG these
- 17:53days before prong got big. And I was always a huge prong
- 17:56worshipper in the music that I made and even we'll make in the
- 17:59future. So super cool, man.
- 18:01And I love hearing all that, all of that, you know, introspection
- 18:04about the process and stuff like that.
- 18:06That's what I like personally, if someone were to interview me,
- 18:09I want to be asked about this, this stuff.
- 18:11And as a fan, I was always curious about like the what the
- 18:14goings on are. It's always a good thing when
- 18:16you give a produce When a producer earns a nickname from
- 18:18the band and not from a bad reputation, that's always a
- 18:21plus. Oh, man, and we we do the the
- 18:24joke from cable guy where it's like we'll be on the headphones
- 18:27in the booth and you're like, Steven, are you there Steven?
- 18:30You know, it's so he's just there's it's such a light
- 18:32hearted field. But then when you start
- 18:34recording, man, he's he's up your ass dude, But like hit this
- 18:38and you know, it's like a dad at the same time.
- 18:40It's so cool. Word.
- 18:41I'm so glad you talked about art earlier.
- 18:43I know you and I are big nerd nerd people and record
- 18:46collectors and music lovers. You know, I know it's very
- 18:49controversial these days about AI or AI is and everything,
- 18:53right? We're not going to really get
- 18:54rid of it. And it's really machine learning
- 18:55and not actual like the Cyberdyne Terminator AI.
- 18:59It's actually machine learning. That's what we're all kind of
- 19:01using everyday tech and you know, text, photo editing, video
- 19:04editing, little shortcuts and things.
- 19:06It's supposed to make our life better.
- 19:08But also, you come from a family of artists and makers and
- 19:12creators, and so why is it important to you?
- 19:14I wanted to talk about album artwork.
- 19:16Your photography was dope. Shout out to our girl Kim
- 19:19Hanson, who does photography for Ghost Co also, as well as bands
- 19:22and festivals and things. Shout out to her.
- 19:24I love those photos of y'all in the diner and stuff like that
- 19:27and just chilling. It feel very most photo shoots
- 19:30don't look natural. Press photos are all like very
- 19:33like hardcore and you guys look very chill and in your element
- 19:37and stuff. But I wanted to talk about
- 19:38specifically like why it's important to you to have real
- 19:41artwork on things and and you know, it's helpful.
- 19:44Technology is helpful. We we're here instead of in
- 19:46person, which is amazing. I'm in San Francisco and you're
- 19:49elsewhere. But you know, I do feel like
- 19:52we're, I don't want to get to a point where artists don't get
- 19:54paid for art, whether it's creators, makers or, you know,
- 19:57whoever. Especially album artwork and
- 19:59things like that is really important to me.
- 20:01Oh, I agree 1000%, Elle, you know, Lennon and me and Lane are
- 20:06all huge on artwork. You know, we, we, we were the
- 20:10kids going in the vinyl shops and buying something based off
- 20:13just to cover, you know? So for us, that's something this
- 20:16man's always taking serious. From Dan Seagrave doing Up in
- 20:20Hell and the Oppression cover, I mean Legend to Andre Buzakoff
- 20:25doing Built to Destroy and now Marcelo Vasco doing Savage New
- 20:29Times. It's it's beyond important to us
- 20:33and especially it being real artists doing it.
- 20:36You know that that to me it will always be.
- 20:39I think the thing that can separate human and machine is
- 20:42creating a song that's original and heartfelt, creating art that
- 20:46makes you question in existence, you know, that that is what
- 20:50makes us human is that ability to have imagination and create
- 20:54that thing. So it's big to us.
- 20:57And I hope, you know, bands don't just fall back on that and
- 21:00take an easy way to, you know, write their lyrics or, you know,
- 21:04whatever use it could be. You know, I know Dan Seagravey
- 21:08draws all his by hand and paints them.
- 21:11Andre does a lot of the same ideas too.
- 21:14And Marcelo also, you know, so we we love, you know, looking at
- 21:18a vinyl and just feeling that and really knowing that there
- 21:21was a dude that like created this out of his mind just from
- 21:24listening to our record, you know?
- 21:25Right. On it, I think that album, that
- 21:29album shade matches my shirt. I got to get me one.
- 21:34It's sick, man. He he redesigned us a brand new
- 21:37logo for the new kind of inside 2 point O feel that we have, you
- 21:42know, and the artwork just it speaks to the savage New Times
- 21:46of life or personal days or whatever the hell you're going
- 21:49through, you know. We're all going through it, man.
- 21:51We had a psychotic break globally and now we're back.
- 21:54But nobody's the same. It's kind of crazy.
- 21:56It is. True.
- 21:58Man, it's wild. That's time warp.
- 22:01You know, I said I said something to a friend of mine
- 22:03and she was like, what do you expect me to raw dog life
- 22:05without like my my weed like I can't function.
- 22:08What's the good spot near you in Southern California for a
- 22:11dispensary? If I'm going down there for a
- 22:13visit and I need like a pen or a a pre roll or something.
- 22:16I mean, I go up to Long Beach and I hit the backpack boys,
- 22:20man. I mean, they're hands down doing
- 22:22it. You know, with all the best
- 22:24growers out there with the best strains, the best vape pens you
- 22:27can get, the hash hold, fat joints, you know, really good
- 22:31prices on Mondays. They got like the 15% off the
- 22:34store and it's never that busy. So shout out to them for always
- 22:38providing that sweet relief, as we call it, you know?
- 22:41All right, I'll link them in the description along with all your
- 22:43stuff. Just the last couple of
- 22:45questions, man. I know you got a big, this is
- 22:47going to run closer to the album drop in August, but I know you
- 22:50got a big summer of touring. Is there anything else later in
- 22:53the year you can talk about that will be timely when this this
- 22:57interview drops and the album drops?
- 22:59Yeah, I mean, we still have two more singles that we're going to
- 23:01put out, so we're going to end up putting 5 out.
- 23:03So you're ready to check those out.
- 23:05We have killer videos for him. The next single Lies, we had
- 23:09everybody in the crowd film with their phones, man, and send us
- 23:12that footage. So we're compiling all that to
- 23:15make a really cool idea video for them to enjoy.
- 23:18And then yeah, we should be, you know, on Summer Slaughter.
- 23:22And then we'll have another video coming out done by Jim
- 23:25Liboli doing it again. Did the just for just a rap
- 23:29video. So I'm fucking excited to see
- 23:32that. And then I think we'll have
- 23:34another tour in September, October with Barnes, 6 feet
- 23:40under and those good dudes. Not announced or confirmed yet,
- 23:44but that should be on the books by that time.
- 23:46And can't wait to jam with him, you know.
- 23:48Such a good humble dude and awesome.
- 23:50So killer. I got to meet Jim Laveau once
- 23:52about 10 years ago and he was fantastic.
- 23:54And it wasn't quite doing all the music videos.
- 23:57He was just kind of dipping his foot into that then.
- 23:59And he was wonderful to hang out with and meet.
- 24:02I, I, I saw him at a festival I came out to Arizona for.
- 24:05Back in. 2015 he was incredible really quick.
- 24:09By the way, I really hope I I know you're not the right person
- 24:13to ask about this. I should probably ask your mom,
- 24:16but Max Cavallera dynasty show, we got to cover that shout out
- 24:21to my dude Chris Elliott and of course Annie Atlasman, who's
- 24:24also, you know, worked in the business and also a great
- 24:27photographer and a ghost cultist as well.
- 24:29And that show was, I felt like I was there from reading that
- 24:32incredible review and seeing those photos.
- 24:34And I feel like I would love to see that be an annual thing.
- 24:38I don't know if it can always work with the touring, but it
- 24:40would be cool if it would come back because I think I would try
- 24:43to come out for one. We can hang chill all day, watch
- 24:47all the bands. It seemed like a really
- 24:49incredible experience all around.
- 24:50Yeah, I love that. I think that's like the the,
- 24:52the, the next evolution of, you know, the Dana show that they
- 24:56had done for, you know, 20 plus years.
- 24:58So we were excited to be a part of that and I felt like the
- 25:01vibe, the the family, the the metal scene, everybody that was
- 25:06there really loved it and appreciated it.
- 25:08And, you know, there's so many formulas of bands that we can
- 25:11use that have always been a part of Max and Cavallera and all of
- 25:15us, you know. So I would imagine that's going
- 25:17to be something you'll see. I think Salt Fly has a tour at
- 25:21the end of the year, so that's probably where it'll be, you
- 25:24know, circled around. But yeah, no, we'll, we'll be a
- 25:26part of it if it is. Because like you said, it was,
- 25:28it was a freaking blast, man. I would absolutely come out to
- 25:32to Phoenix for it if it comes back and I'm sure we'll cover it
- 25:35no matter what. Just the last question, bro, I
- 25:38always try to get you, I tripped you up a couple of times, not on
- 25:41purpose, but I like to ask a wild card question at the end.
- 25:44So I I look back through the times we've chatted before and I
- 25:47was like, what did I ask him? What did I ask him?
- 25:49So I wanted to know for the wild card final question, what is
- 25:52your favorite movie of all time? Does it could be any genre
- 25:54anytime? I would say Animal House.
- 25:57You know, I was, I was addicted to that dude for like my Stoner,
- 26:02you know, teen years, dude. I would just get high all the
- 26:04time and watch that and that that one kills me every time,
- 26:08man. I I can't get over that enough.
- 26:11Belushi kills it. Yeah, dude, there's, there's so
- 26:14many more lines. I actually made my fiance, she
- 26:17had never seen. And I watched it with her about
- 26:18six months ago and she was just fucking just stunned, you know,
- 26:22because they don't make movies like that anymore.
- 26:25That kind of just real raw good humor.
- 26:27It couldn't even get. Made today probably.
- 26:29And you know, Belushi, I feel like he was so punk rock, right,
- 26:33as a dude, just his style in life.
- 26:35Like, yeah, you know, louder and.
- 26:38Just the cast is so legendary when you like look at who is in
- 26:42that. You're just like, what the hell
- 26:44in there? I just kill it.
- 26:45All right. Yeah, phenomenal.
- 26:47Listen, thank you so much once again, Richie and the first
- 26:50family of metal Decavillere is always a pleasure, brother.
- 26:53I will see you next time, hopefully in person when you
- 26:55either come to my town or I go to see you on tour.
- 26:58And, you know, again, these are these are a treat for me.
- 27:00You're not supposed to have favorite people in the business,
- 27:02but you're one of my, you know, you're one of my peeps and my
- 27:04favorites. And I appreciate you supporting
- 27:08us back as we have supported you.
- 27:09So thank you. Hey, thank you.
- 27:11So much, man, to watch us kind of both grow and things just
- 27:14evolve and get cooler as time went on, man, it's been great
- 27:17and much love to you and everybody.
- 27:20Let's get it. Word.
- 27:21Let's get it. Watch the New Times.
- 27:23August 15th. Oh yeah, here we go.
- 27:25Records fall in here. You can pull it up.
- 27:26There it is. It was asking to be shown.
- 27:29Yeah, buy them. Shits buy them.
- 27:31Please don't. Yeah, don't steal them.
- 27:33Don't you know, Spotify's cool, but like, buy something.
- 27:36Please buy stuff from bands. Keep them alive.
- 27:38Thanks, man. We'll see you soon.
- 27:39Have a good one, brother.
